Birch Aquarium, located at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography in UC San Diego, is a vibrant oceanside building offering interactive tide pools and exhibitions showcasing marine life. With over 60 habitats and tanks featuring creatures from the Pacific Northwest to Mexico, visitors can explore cold water species, tropical swimmers, fish, sharks, and invertebrates. The aquarium emphasizes conservation efforts and research on climate, ocean science, and biology.
Absolutely one of the best aquariums in the world! It's not the largest, but the variety is breath taking. Each display is FILLED (nicely) with different specimens. I can't label the photos I've included and are but a few that I took. One could literally spend an hour, or an afternoon with each display. The setting of the Birch is beautiful in itself. The place is specifically child friendly. The help is ready to help direct, to answer questions or just chat. The whole family loved it even the 3 year old. Upon making a reservation, you can choose a time in which to come, and that seems to help control the traffic. Best, great place and a must see if you are ever in San Diego

Great time at this wonderful little aquarium. If you have EBT, the $3 admission was a perfect opportunity to see everything this aquarium has to offer. The employees were kind and knowledgeable.

A great place to take young kids. This is one of the nicest aquariums I have been to. There is a lot to see and interact with and takes about 1-2 hours to go through it all. The penguin exhibit is very nicely done and it's fun to watch them swim around. Parking can be difficult on the weekends so it's best to come early in the day. There's also a discount if you buy tickets online ahead of time.

The Birch Aquarium is absolutely perfect for toddlers! We took our little one recently, and it couldn’t have been a better experience. Everything is so well designed for young kids, from the colorful exhibits and interactive touch tanks to the open spaces where they can safely explore and learn. The staff is incredibly kind and patient, always taking time to explain things and make sure the kids are having fun. The outdoor tide pool area was a huge hit. Our toddler loved watching the fish and sea stars up close, and the ocean view from up there is just beautiful. It’s the perfect mix of fun, education, and family-friendly atmosphere. We’ll definitely be coming back soon. It’s one of the best places in San Diego for curious little ones!

A great way to spend an afternoon with the family. Nice aquarium, it's not really big but they have great indoor activities for young children. Great views. Interesting exhibits and educational value for all ages.

This place is amazing! Beautiful colors of fish and sea life and tanks to touch some of them. The outside back patio has lounging chairs to enjoy the beautiful ocean views. The souvenir shop has a great variety of quality souvenirs.
Audrey J — Google review
Sweet little aquarium that holds a lot of knowledge, unique sea creatures, and fun for the kiddos in a relatively small package. Lots of interactive sections for the little, s wonderful penguin experience, and a can’t miss octopus makes this a great place to visit. Free parking lot for 3 hours as well. Small cafe just outside the entrance and a lovely gift shop round out the experience.
Cami W — Google review
I went to the virtual aquarium for shark summer days and I was so happy to see so many children learning about the ocean and loving on the sea creatures, places like this are so important for our future, the staff maintains the aquarium in pristine condition and the animals look healthy, there’s a lot of informative signs and places to stop and admire the encounters, I spent a lot of time watching the turtle, and wondering about the kelp encounter, it is spot on. I was also thankful for the tide pools with lots of urchins and sea stars and shark eggs. This is a must for the summer or when you just wanna take the kids to do something with both of you can be equally admiring the encounters.

Zoo
Zoos & Aquariums
The San Diego Zoo is a world-renowned 100-acre zoo that is home to over 12,000 rare and endangered animals from 600 different species. The lush jungle environment created by the zoo's 700,000 types of plants provides an immersive experience for visitors. One of its newest attractions is the Wildlife Explorers Basecamp, which offers interactive displays on insects, amphibians, and other wildlife along with play areas such as a giant treehouse and a splash zone.
Had a fantastic experience. Got there when they opened. Staff was very nice and eager to help or share animal facts. It's a large zoo so you can easily spend an entire day there. Tried a number of snacks and drinks and it was all delicious. If you have sensory issues, recommend going on the morning, it got pretty busy around lunch and the crowds were a little noisy. Morning is a lot easier to get a good view of the animals.
Jonathan C — Google review
This is 100% a world class zoo. They make use of the space extremely well. There's plenty of walking to do, but they make it a wonderful experience. I was thoroughly impressed with the amount of conservation and research that they do as well. I learned all about it on the fantastic double decker bus tour, which I highly recommend. This was an experience that is second to none.
K L — Google review
Very Fun place to go with family and friends Lots of awesome animals compared to other zoo’s. Location is great and heavy parking lot so theres never issues finding a spot! Lots of room even when packed. I have been several times where the park seems full but you never have issues seeing animals across the park due to the high volume. Animals seem to have really nice enclosures and don’t seem unhappy which is relieving for a zoo. Prices range from about $65 for children and adults are usually around $75. For a whole day pass this usually is pretty good price Military get in this location for free and can go anytime.
Cameron M — Google review
The San Diego Zoo is a must see on a San Diego visit! I would say it’s an all day event if you plan to see the entire zoo. I was there from 9am to 5pm! Make sure to bring your comfortable walking shoes! I would recommend taking their bus tour from the start and sitting on the to deck on the right side. You’ll see more of the attractions during the drive than the left. The bus tour is a great starting point and allows you to see a lot of the zoo and animals from a high POV! From there I recommend choosing your important must see animals and go from there! The air cable car is in the middle of the zoo and stops at the polar bear attraction so plan accordingly. Some people like to take it down at the end of their visit because you’ll end up at the entrance but there is more of a line. They do allow water bottles and food. Highly recommend drinking water as it does get hot!

The kids love the zoo and so did WE. Of course these days I feel like you have to go in October because kids under 11 are free with paid adult. We were really excited about the Pandas and that was a complete bust! You can barely see them! The highlight was the horny baboon that pleasured himself right in front of us! Explain that to the kids what he is doing! Overall it was fun and you definitely get your steps in waking the park.
Jeremy J — Google review
I visited the zoo over four years ago and noticed significant improvements and new sections have been added since my last visit. The upgrades have enhanced the overall experience, making it much better than before. One of the highlights was the convenience of valet parking. I particularly enjoyed the reptile section, which was quite impressive. However, I did have to wait nearly 30 minutes to access the Panda section, which was less than ideal, but it was worth it for my kids.

Had the best experience visiting the SD ZOO, definitely not a 1 day experience, so many beautiful animals to see. So beautiful walking thru all the green forest/bamboo. Loved the tour bus & flying thru the sky... Staff was super friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. Able to bring in own drinks & food. Which is super helpful when bringing kids.
Ester — Google review
An absolutely amazing experience! 🐯🌿 The San Diego Zoo completely blew me away hands down one of the best zoos I’ve ever been to. The layout is beautiful and super easy to navigate, the animals are clearly well cared for, and the whole place feels like a mix between an adventure park and a nature sanctuary. The staff were just just sooooo friendly, knowledgeable and amazing i never seen employees that care so much for their job and love it so much like the people in this zoo, the exhibits were clean and immersive, and there’s something new to see around every corner from playful pandas to majestic tigers and adorable koalas 🐼🦒. You can tell the zoo really prioritizes conservation and education, not just entertainment. Also, the Skyfari aerial tram was such a cool touch seeing the zoo from above was unreal! 🚡 Highly recommend spending a full day here if you can. It’s 100% worth it whether you’re with friends, family, or even solo. A true San Diego must-visit. 🌞❤️

San Diego Zoo Safari Park, located 30 miles northeast of San Diego, is an 1,800-acre wildlife sanctuary that houses over 300 species of African and Asian animals. It offers visitors the chance to witness rare African and Asian mega animals in a natural habitat setting.
Delightful experience here with wife and family. We did some of the hands on experience which included close ups with the koala and also feeding another animal (zebra and also the one in our photo). While we are not zoologist, the animals did seem relatively comfortable and their enclosure decently large. We loved how clean the facilities were and readily available restrooms for those post meal needs. Walking around the whole place def takes a few hours and we love the themed atmosphere as well. Would def recommend people come here and also to the zoo. Both are world leaders in zoo keeping and a great place to see animals you may not see elsewhere.

This is always a fantastic experience for kids, but the adults enjoyed it just as much. Ideally, go take the bus tour first thing when you get there. It gives you a good overview of the park, and you'll beat the crowds the rest of the day. The avian show was very entertaining and we of course learned a lot of fascinating info on the various birds and other bonus animals they brought out.
Laurence B — Google review
Brilliant park, expansive highly suggest getting the open air shuttle through the safari plains, getting close enough to see animals wandering or resting and great photo opportunities. Only complaint is “zoo radio” near the food which is too loud and not in keeping with a nature outdoor experience. Loved the tiger exhibit sounds! Can’t wait to see the new elephant exhibit later this year!
Michelle — Google review
First time in SD and going to the safari was the first thing I did. Overall, it was a solid experience. I went solo, which gave me the freedom to explore at my own pace and really take my time. The park features a wide range of animals from different regions around the world, which made for a pretty good visit. I was looking forward to the cheetah run, but unfortunately, it was closed during my visit. One of the staff members mentioned they’ve stopped doing it daily since the cheetah is getting older. The safari ride was definitely the highlight of the day. I waited nearly 90 minutes, and the ride itself lasted about 25–30 minutes. I got to see some interesting animals, but wish it was longer and much more diverse. Another standout was the tiger exhibit. I spent quite a bit of time there just admiring the sheer beauty and majesty of the animal. Walking through the entire park took me around six hours at a relaxed pace. If you're going with kids or a group, it’ll likely take longer, so I’d recommend setting aside the whole day for the visit.
Sai M — Google review
San Diego Safari Park: A Worthwhile Adventure with a Wild Twist The Safari Park is a refreshing extension of the San Diego Zoo experience, with a strong focus on African wildlife and open-range habitats. One of the highlights is the African Tram Safari, which takes you through a sprawling African Valley where multiple species roam freely. It’s a peaceful, scenic ride that offers a unique perspective compared to traditional zoo enclosures. The park itself is expansive, so be prepared for a good amount of walking. Thankfully, the journey is worth it—especially if you take time to explore favorites like the Nairobi Trail, the California Condor exhibit, the elephants, and the lions. These areas are thoughtfully designed and offer great viewing opportunities. There are plenty of gift shops and snack stands scattered throughout the park, along with several dining options to refuel during your visit. Parking is $20, and while there’s ample space, arriving later in the day means a longer walk from your car to the entrance. Overall, the Safari Park offers a solid experience and a different vibe than the main zoo. However, ticket prices can be steep, so we recommend checking Costco, AAA, or Groupon for discounted rates. It’s a decent value if you plan ahead—and a great way to spend a day immersed in nature.
Tony — Google review
San Diego Safari Park is an unforgettable experience and absolutely worth visiting! The park is massive, with incredibly spacious and beautifully maintained grounds — it’s truly impossible to see everything in just one day. Every part of the park feels open and natural, offering animals plenty of room to roam freely. One of the absolute highlights for me was the hot air balloon ride — soaring above the entire park and taking in breathtaking views was magical and gave a whole new perspective on the animals and layout. It’s not every day you get to float above giraffes and rhinos! The staff were friendly and informative, and the whole park is very clean and well-organized. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes and plan ahead — there’s a lot of walking and so much to see. This place is perfect for families, couples, or even solo travelers. Highly recommend for anyone visiting the San Diego area. You’ll want to come back again and again!
H K — Google review
Cute family friendly activity in San Diego! I recommend going early if you’re looking to get parking close by the entrance, checking out their website for ticket discounts and make sure to wear comfortable shoes and clothes, you will walk a lot! We went around the park and saw the majority of the areas, altogether we walked 5 miles for the day. If you’re on a budget, make sure to pack food and snacks, food and drinks at this place are ridiculously expensive.
Gabriella R — Google review
We had such a great experience today at the San Diego Safari Park! I want to give a special shout-out to Hailey and Clayton from the photo booth / photo print area. They were both incredibly friendly, patient, and genuinely helpful. They didn’t just take the standard photos — they actually came over to suggest better spots, better angles, and helped us capture something more meaningful. You could tell they really care about what they do. When it came time to choose and print the photos, they were just as kind and supportive, making the whole process super smooth. Because of them, we didn’t just leave with photos — we left with really special memories. Thank you both so much! 😊

SeaWorld San Diego is a must-visit destination for both adults and kids, offering marine life shows, thrill rides, and up-close encounters with dolphins, penguins, and more. Situated on over 2,000 acres in shimmering Mission Bay, it is one of the largest marine parks globally.
SeaWorld San Diego was such a great experience for us. The animal shows and exhibits are really the heart of the park — seeing dolphins, orcas, and penguins up close was incredible, and the sea lions show stood out as the most entertaining thanks to both the animals and the cast. At the same time, the rides add variety and excitement to the day. Emperor and Electric Eel are not for the faint of heart but are amazing if you love roller coasters, and the water rides are super enjoyable, though it’s a shame there aren’t more of them. If you can, I highly recommend visiting during the week. The crowds are so light that we were able to walk onto rides with virtually no wait times, and the park never felt crowded. Food and merchandise can get pricey, but getting an annual pass really pays off with the discounts they offer — it makes a noticeable difference if you plan to eat or shop in the park. Overall, SeaWorld San Diego offers a fun mix of shows, animals, and rides that makes for a memorable day out.
Marco S — Google review
This is a review based on a recent, highly disappointing visit to SeaWorld San Diego. Having been excited to return after four years, I found the park has severely lost its charm. The most frustrating issue is the value proposition: they still charge a premium price of $130+ for a single-day ticket, yet a significant number of rides were non-operational. To make matters worse, the park now employs various cheap and manipulative tactics to extract more money. They fail to disclose upfront that many of the major rides require an additional $6 fee per person to ride, a charge you can only bypass by buying an expensive annual pass. Furthermore, their advertised "bonus ticket" offer is a complete fraud. They print on the website that a single-day ticket grants you a bonus ticket valid throughout the year. However, upon trying to claim it, they immediately hide behind fine print, claiming it's at their discretion when the ticket is issued within the year. They even resort to actively tracking guests—if you visit with a friend the very next day, they know you've already been and will suddenly issue the bonus ticket, making it impossible to use for the very next visit you planned. This deceptive behavior feels like a complete betrayal of the customer. Finally, a major warning for families: if your child is under 42 inches tall, it honestly doesn't make sense to go. The vast majority of the rides have a 42-inch height minimum, meaning you will pay full price for a child who can't enjoy most of the attractions. Between the broken rides, the deceptive pricing schemes, and the outright fraudulent bonus ticket policy, SeaWorld San Diego is no longer worth the visit.
Bharat — Google review
It's a beautiful place. Not overhyped. Most rides and attractions were operating. Relatively clean park. It is overpriced but ok if you get an annual pass and can return over and over again for a year for that price ($99-230 I think). Customer service is really not top notch when it comes to dealing with the benefits and perks for Platinum and annual card holders. Get your systems in order or choose either online or face to face only for printing cards. Food is overpriced but good. Maybe have roaming staff that helps people find their way. Get rid of those vendors that charge $5-35 per game. Clean the kiddie pard and baby coral a bit. Okay sorry for the over analysis. I love Sea World. I may spend more time than I should there and really am stating every problem I could think of. It's such a fun place and staff are really happy to be there. The animals and sea creatures seem calm and playful.
Jenn B — Google review
This park had very friendly staff, it was clean and well maintained. The rides were fun and I enjoyed the orca and dolphin shows. It received 3⭐️for the following reasons: 1) The park was open until 7:00pm but there were quite a few attractions s that closed at 5:00 or 6:00 and at least one - the Jellyfiah - were supposed to close at 6:00 but they closed it at 5:30. There really needs to be some notification on the website when you buy tickets (not I. The fine print if it’s there at all). And it also wouldn’t be hard to put it on the app. 2) The food was exorbitantly expensive for what you received. The chicken sandwich, for example, was $18 plus tax and was a bun, chicken patty, and two pickle slices. It can with a side of fries but we’re definitely not a ‘large’ fry. Paying amusement park prices for food is expected but at least make the food worth the price. Overall I would go back but I would definitely verify the actual park hours and bring your own food if it’s allowed.
Kristen S — Google review
This place is amazing, the park is clean and the staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Only addition that would have been awesome to see on at the park is designated areas for service dogs to relieve themselves at. Like a small little tiny classy area with a small fence and gate where you can let your service dog relive themself like they have at Disney and Knott's Berry farm. Other than that the park is amazing.
CMF — Google review
I was curious about Seaworld because I wanted to see the orcas. Seaworld has stopped its breeding program and the remaining orcas will be its last. I went on a Friday and the place wasn’t too crowded or busy. If you plan to come here, I would recommend visiting the attractions and checking their showtimes and plan around their shows. They don’t have a physical map and their app is a little hard to navigate with to figure out where you are in the park. They have water tanks where you are able to touch the sea creatures like the spotted shark and manta rays. They also had booths where you could purchase feeding trays for $10 to feed the creatures but they were all closed during my visit. Seaworld is quite small compared to the SD zoo and I didn’t realize but it is an amusement park with rides. You aren’t allowed to bring bags to the rides so you’ll have to rent a locker to store them or have someone hold onto it. Can’t comment on the rides since I didn’t go on any of them but being an extra change of clothes in case you get wet. The orca show lasts about 20 minutes where you’ll be able to see orcas do tricks and splash you. I would recommend getting there about 20 minutes beforehand if you want to sit in the center. They have rows labeled as “wet zone” so avoid if you don’t want to get wet. If you want a more personalized experience, I would recommend the “close up encounters” but it is quite expensive. They can range from $100-$500. We paid for a beluga whale experience that lasted about 15 minutes, where meet the whales and they allow you to touch the animals and chat with trainers. It was a nice experience especially since I wasn’t able to see them in their tanks. Overall, I would skip Seaworld if you are only here for the animals.

Took my son here for his birthday and we had a really good time! It can be expensive but options such as the all day dining make it worthwhile! There was no long lines and the staff was very friendly. We went around the Halloween season and there was a lot of activities to do and the kids were able to dress up in their Halloween costumes and go trick or treating at certain stations! Overall, an experience I think every child should experience at least once!

This is a world class Institute for scientific research. And the history it embodies is worth knowing. Take the guided tour if you can. It’s fun and you’ll meet interesting kindred spirits. The views from here are gorgeous. Good place to see the green flash if the weather is right. Given the semi public nature of the site, and the limited parking, you’ll not have much competition for a good viewing spot.

Everyone is knowledgeable. Feeding time is great! The docents give lots of info about the fish. It's fun to touch sine of fish too. I keep going back. Parking is free. Nice gift shop. Not as commercial as Aquarium of the Pacific.

La Jolla Cove, located in the charming neighborhood of La Jolla, is a beloved destination for divers and beach enthusiasts. The area is home to the picturesque La Jolla Cove and the renowned La Jolla Underwater Park, which spans 6,000 acres of ocean floor and tidelands. This marine sanctuary is teeming with diverse sea life including seals, sea lions, Garibaldi fish, leopard sharks, and pelicans.
I love this place. So much enjoyed walking along the cave and watching people and seals. The weather was nice. The pathway, sea and yard is so clean.

Beautiful views. We started by the cave and walked over to the children's pool. Beautiful scenery and breezy air in the morning. By the time we left around 11 am it was very crowded, on a Friday morning.

Always an excellent choice even with the traffic getting in and out. Parking isn't impossible but it is a task. Patience is a virtue. The picture perfect views are worth enduring the smell of the seals and cormorants. Perfect for a romantic walk or jog, all the open space and air is priceless and the reason why Californian's pay an arm and a leg to live here. There are many boutique shops and restaurants that offer savory items. There are rows of hotels that provide excellent spots for weddings or special occasions. Been coming here for years. Actually got married at one of the rooftops. A special place that means much to me. Whenever I need a reality check, this is where I visit.

La Jolla is a California dream—stunning ocean views, plenty of walking, and tons of spots for coffee, food, or dessert. Restrooms are right by the sea lions’ beach, and while parking can be tricky, nearby garages make it doable. Perfect for a day of exploring and soaking in the scenery!

Pretty great place to see birds and sea lions with an epic backdrop (if you can get over the smell) I saw a Brant’s Cormorant there and many more birds I will put pictures of below. Definitely should check it out. The sea lions and birds are so abundant and it is such a unique seen. You can park anywhere or walk if you are staying in La Jolla. Enjoy the photographs.

La Jolla Cove is AMAZING!!! The coast trail is a fantastic place to take a nice walk. Plenty of benches to sit on and enjoy the view. Visit the La Jolla Cove park, The cave store and walk down inside the cave and it has a great view out to the ocean. Watch seals and sea lions play in the surf and have a seal arguments on the beach😆! I am serious you can hear the seals barking loudly at each other its quite funny. Visit the Childrens pool and the sea wall. There's so much to do and see!!!

Sea lions, seals, oh my! I loved getting up close to our sea friends as they rested on the beach. They’re so cuddly with each other, but be prepared for stairs, smell, and sea lions barking. The view of the ocean is beautiful too.

LEGOLAND California Resort is a vibrant destination in Carlsbad, California, just north of San Diego. The resort features a lively hotel with LEGO-themed quarters and amenities like dining, an outdoor pool, and complimentary breakfast. The hands-on theme park offers over 60 themed rides and interactive attractions for kids aged two to twelve. Additionally, the SEA LIFE Aquarium and LEGOLAND Water Park provide entertainment for the entire family.
The rides were really fun! the food was delicious we ate at the pizza and pasta place and took advantage of the buffet the staff at Legoland are incredible. Kind thoughtful. At one point my son wanted to be in front of a roller coaster but the placement didn't provide for it. The next time he came to the lady we hadn't even seen before I said I heard you wanted to be in the front let's make that happen! Everyone is very chatty and kind and helpful we had a great day!
Miranda M — Google review
We had such a great time at LEGOLAND! There are so many fun things to see and do — way more than I expected. The creativity behind all the LEGO designs and attractions is amazing, and the staff was super friendly and helpful. The aquarium is definitely worth visiting — it was one of my favorite parts of the day! There’s a great variety of animals and it’s really well done. However, the park really needs better maintenance. A lot of things were dusty, faded, or missing pieces, some water features weren’t working, and a few attractions were closed. It’s still a fun experience, but I’d love to come back when everything’s fully restored and running at 100%!

We had such a great time. I feel its better than the zoo and maybe even Sea World. We'll at least for a 4 year old. The employees are really kind young kids, which gives me hope for the future. A young man named Juan even rode with my daughter, because we waited in line and it was just me and a 6 month old, so I wasn't able to go. He really made my daughter's day. That was so kind. The pizza, pasta and salad buffet was great. Had nice outdoor seating too. The Trick-or-Treating even was awesome. They gave out huge bags of candy that I saw all parents eating 😀. There are a ton of really neat parks with big slides and all sorts of fun stuff for them to climb on. A great way for parents to get a little rest in. We will definitely be back!!

First time Vacation at Legoland! We had our 8, 7 and 3 year old and my in laws with their 3 year old. I would say that this theme park is definitely for under 10 unless your kids love more action/activities then it might not be for them. Let me say this...Lego masterpieces everywhere!!!!! Amazing how all was put together to show a little of everything. We started our Sunday with Sealife and then headed to the Brick or Treat event. Kids were dressed up and they were given small bags for candies. Now the candy stations (less than 10 stations) were in certain areas and at times a little confusing with everything that was going on. I feel like it would be nice and easier if candies were to be handed out in front of the rides but thats just me. There was no waiting times during our Sunday night. They were able to get into a few rides as well as enjoying the lego art. Monday visit was a bit more busy and humid. We waited almost 20-30 minutes for the roller coaster and the duplo train ride. Other rides were less than 10 minutes. Most rides that include parents with young children have a weight limit of 330 pounds for the seat. Luckily we were able to take turns and enjoy some rides with our boys. Like i had said previously the rides are definitely for younger kids and they only last maybe less than 2 minutes and have little to no motion. My two older boys enjoyed the roller coaster and the ride that goes up and down(its in my pictures). We did a few family group rides like the big boat ride that takes you along the lake, the duplo train, and the submarine ride. We also bought the 2 day cup and the popcorn bucket but unlike other theme parks, the freestyle machines were not everywhere so it was pointless and the popcorn bucket was only refillable at that kiosk from what we saw because we asked around a few places and those places had no popcorn. The one thing that I don't know how to take it as is at this lego car exhibit my brother in law took my boys to see the car and apparently as soon as they went in the male employee there told him- that there was nothing exciting to see and dont waste your time there and instead go on the rides- so whatever his intentions were we'll never know but my son loves hot wheels so he was interested in looking at that car. So now that I pointed out my experiences I want to say that we had fun, and a few meh moments and for us it was a one time thing. Staff was friendly in the park and hotel.

Title: Not Worth the Price — Disappointing Stay for $700 a Night I booked a fully themed “Friends” room at Legoland Hotel California to celebrate my grandchild’s birthday one November 1, 2025 for one Night. Honestly, for the $700 I paid for one night, it was not worth it. I hope this review helps anyone deciding whether to book here. The room was very small and felt extremely crowded. We were given one king bed, plus a bunk bed and a pull-out bed, which sounds great but left almost no space to move around. The furniture looked old-fashioned and worn out — some pieces were chipped, the wallpaper was scratched, and parts were even peeling off. Around 4 a.m., I tried turning on the TV, but it wasn’t working. The screen said to call the cable operator, so I contacted the front desk. They told me I had to wait until 7 a.m. for someone to come in and call the company. The room was generally clean, but it was clear that cleaning was only done on the surface — not in detail. I have asthma, and I could feel dust irritation right away. Also, please note: the photos you see online when booking are not what the rooms actually look like. The hotel’s biggest advantage is that it’s right next to the park, which is convenient, but honestly, you’re better off staying at one of the nearby hotels that offer more space and comfort — especially if you’re traveling with kids.
Aide S — Google review
Took my son here for his birthday! He had a blast! The detail work is beautiful to look at! It can be on the expensive side and I wish they had more options such as all day dining for food. Would recommend to take your child here at least once in a lifetime!

Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve, located within the city limits of San Diego, is a breathtaking 2,000-acre coastal wilderness. It offers a diverse landscape with rare Torrey pine trees, chaparral plant communities, untouched beaches, and protected tidal zones. The reserve is perfect for hiking and wildlife enthusiasts who can explore oceanside trails while spotting occasional dolphins or bobcats.
Came to Torrey Pines with friends for an easy, scenic hike — and it was absolutely worth it. The trails are well-maintained and manageable, making it a great spot for all fitness levels. The ocean views along the cliffs are stunning, and the overall scenery is incredibly picturesque. Whether you’re looking to get some fresh air, take in coastal views, or snap a few great photos, Torrey Pines delivers. Highly recommend if you’re in the area and want a peaceful outdoor experience without a strenuous trek. Pro tip: For an easier hike, find parking at the top of the hill.

This hike was amazing! 🌊 The entry fee was $20, and we drove all the way up to the top parking lot to start the West Overlook Trail (about 3 miles). The beginning was mostly downhill with incredible ocean views and cool lookout spots. The way back is uphill, so it’s definitely a workout—but worth it. I highly recommend wearing good shoes and bringing plenty of water, especially if you’re hiking midday.
Dristi T — Google review
Breathtakingly beautiful and serene! The mountains on one side and the ocean on the other side makes it even more scenic. So many beautiful trails leading to the peaks where you can watch the sunset or sunrise in the most spectacular views. I loved going here and will come back again and again! Hands down 5 star!

Came here on a Friday afternoon late September. $20 day use fee. Did my hikes from the parking lot across the road from the visitor center. Good amount of parking. I could see it being an issue on really busy days. Porta potties there with hand washing stations. Pretty clean porta potties that didnt smell too bad. Decently warm day but there was a breeze most of the time making it pleasant most of the time. Hiked to Red Butte, Razor Point, Yuma Overlook, and the beach. Took a bit more than an hour including meditation and picture time. Downhill mostly to beach then back uphill to parking lot. Mostly gentle. Nothing too crazy. I am a middle aged guy that sits at a computer working everyday for most of the day and have some mild asthma and still did just fine. Amazing stuff. Although there were plenty of people there, there were still quiet times to enjoy the ambiance and sounds and meditate. Scenery is unreal, and the trails are well marked. Pictures I attach do speak a thousand words and display the incredible scenery. Got my beloved souvenir patch and postcards at the VC, which has no bathrooms or water for water bottle. Highly recommended. I posted lots of pics because this place deserves it.

Torrey pines has many trails to hike and even run! Some trails have a lot of sage and smell great. We really enjoyed the beach -- it was not super crowded (during weekdays). The only problem is the traffic out, especially during rush hours. The State Park entrance and parking is $15 and there is plenty of space. There is also free parking before the entrance but it is almost always fully packed. If you arrive early, you might be lucky.

Very nice aquarium. We enjoyed it very much I love how you can be part of the aquarium. heading the starfish and anemones is small but fun. They also gave you a pamphlet so you can stamp on each section you go at the end they give you something free. If you're looking for a time out with the kids or alone etc this is the place to go very peaceful beautiful and fun. Also they do not allow strollers in. They have an area where you can park your strollers....and the gift store is card only.

Point Loma Tide Pools offer stunning scenery and a wealth of marine life at low tide. The pools are in the boundaries of the National Monument, which has kept it clear of development - making it one of San Diego's most accessible and popular hiking areas.
The Point Loma Tide Pools are absolutely stunning and a perfect spot for nature lovers! The dramatic rocky coastline, paired with the ever-changing tide pools, offers endless opportunities to explore marine life up close. My dog loved it too—wandering along the shoreline, sniffing around the rocks, and soaking in the fresh ocean breeze. The views are breathtaking, with waves crashing against the cliffs and panoramic vistas of the Pacific. It’s a peaceful yet exciting spot to connect with nature and enjoy some quality time outdoors. Just make sure to check the tide schedule before you go for the best experience.

Love the tidal pools here! There is a small parking lot but there were lots of people coming and going so we didn't have to wait long for a spot on a Saturday late afternoon when we were there. Unfortunately the tide was high so we couldn't go down to the beach. But it was still very nice to walk along the cliffs. It would be beautiful at sunset!

Lovely area to enjoy the rugged CA Coastline. There is also a well-marked Coastal Trail to walk. Parking is no problem. The trail is easy; there are several areas where there are steps, but they're very wide and flat. You will be in awe of the superb ocean views all around. Definitely worth a stop.
Ruth J — Google review
Great place for hikers and walkers. Too big differences in height for a beginner cyclist, but still there were plenty of cyclist anyway! You can also water your feet in the sea on the beach. You can see creatures both on land and in the sea. I warmly recommend!

The tidal pools are beautiful. They give a magnificent view of the ocean. The tide was in when I was there so the pools weren't fully visible when I was there, but I still enjoyed it. There is a parking lot nearby so you can easily access the tidal pools. There is a hike down from the Cabrillo National Monument, which is how I got there. The walk down is fine, though the hike up was a bit tougher.

Such a great experience. One of the highlights from our entire trip to San Diego! It was so much fun being able to explore. The tides were still low enough in the spring to see some awesome critters. La Jolla Shores Beach is a popular mile-long stretch of sandy shoreline in La Jolla, adjacent to the San Diego-La Jolla Underwater Park Ecological Reserve. It's known for its gentle waves, making it ideal for activities like swimming, surfing, kayaking, scuba diving, and paddleboarding. The beach is staffed by permanent city lifeguards and offers scuba classes.
One of the most beautiful beaches I’ve ever visited! Beautiful coast line, rock formation, seals, palm trees… I could not have asked for any better. Spent over 2 hours admiring beautiful nature and watch seals sunbathing and swim off to the beach.
Amy K — Google review
Beautiful beach with crystal clear waters most of the time. I've seen lots of fish, some small leopard sharks, dolphins, jellyfish, and stingrays (beware!). It's family friendly with lots of sand, and a grassy area to play as well. They also have a small playground and bathrooms. I also like that there are many cute restaurants within walking distance from the beach. We like to walk over there after a fun day and enjoy a meal by the sea (not ocean view, but close enough) However, the reason for the 3 stars instead of five is how crowded it gets in the summer. The parking lot is always full, so most people have to park on the side streets which are very narrow and hard to get through (cars have to take turns driving past where there are cars parked, like it's almost a one-way street except that it's not). During one of the weekends in summer, the bathroom line was over 20 people! I was so glad I didn't need to go. The only good thing about the crowds, is that so many people scare away the stingrays, so there's that. Overall, I'd recommend this beach on a weekday. It's still a bit crowded, but obviously we go here often, so it's worth it.
Renata — Google review
Beautiful area to watch seals and birds and great view. Easy to get to, a bit crowded to find parking, lots of people visiting , but during the week is fine.
Mike N — Google review
As an avid paddleboarder, I have searched far and wide for the perfect spot, and I can confidently say that La Jolla Shores is it. This beach is a 5 star haven, offering a breathtaking and serene experience that is simply unmatched. The calm, clear waters of the cove are what truly set La Jolla Shores apart for paddleboarding. Unlike other beaches with crashing waves, the gentle swells here create the perfect conditions for a smooth and peaceful glide. This is ideal for paddlers of all skill levels, from beginners still finding their balance to experienced riders who want to enjoy the spectacular scenery. What makes the experience so memorable is the abundant marine life. While paddling just beyond the waves, you can look down through the glistening water and see fish, bat rays, and the famous, harmless leopard sharks that frequent the area in the summer months. I even had a pod of dolphins escorting my group on a recent outing near the pier an unforgettable moment! Rental shops like Everyday California and La Jolla Surf Systems are conveniently located just a block or two from the beach, making the whole process incredibly easy. You can get your gear and be on the water in minutes. There is also plenty of sandy shoreline to launch from, so you're not battling crowds to get in the water.
Diego V — Google review
Parking is INSANE. We tried to come around 1pm and gave up after an hour of looking for a spot. Came back the next day at 9am, and had plenty of spots to choose from. We spent all day on the beach until the tide finally started nearing our site. The water is beautiful. So clean and clear, and the waves were perfect.
Cam N — Google review
This is a coastal gem that offers something for everyone! The scenery is stunning, with dramatic cliffs, clear blue waters, and abundant wildlife. One of the best things about La Jolla is the opportunity to see seals and sea lions up close. They often lounge on the rocks and beaches, making for fantastic photo opportunities. The tide pools are also great for exploring, revealing a variety of marine life. Whether you're looking to relax on the sand, swim in the ocean, or explore the natural beauty, La Jolla Beach is a must-visit destination in San Diego!
Rita H — Google review
It was very crowded but under control. Still the bathrooms are a bit lame. Definitely an open city beach. But if you walk down far enough (padt the cement walkwsy) you can find some less populated spots.
Paul E — Google review
La Jolla shores beach is definitely one of the best beaches in America. Incredibly beautiful cove, and the beach is over a mile long with smooth, white sand. It is a fantastic destination for any water activities. While it is sheltered from most swells, the smaller ones it gets are very well shaped and easy to ride.

Visitors can take to the skies for tandem or solo flights, or simply soak in the stunning surroundings while enjoying refreshments at the on-site cafe.
Stunningl! It's a must whether you're visiting or living in California. It's still free to access this natural and stunningly beautiful area. There's a cafe/restaurant if you want to get a bite and relax or bring a picnic and beach chairs. Binoculars and CAMERAS. Sensible shoes as terrain is rough and slippery (if you want to walk around or hike) - I was terrified to see a few visitors in heels and clearly not prepared. Listen to the whoosh and watch the wonder of the hang gliders. Or, just soak in the peace of the scenery. Parking was plentiful, but I wasn't there on a weekend, nor was there any evidence of a special event. Enjoy this gorgeous area. Marvel.

World class para gliding and hand gliding center. Amazing scenic beauty of stiff uneven cliffs and beach. Restaurants and Bar are available. Nice tourist spot. Almost crowded during sun set time. Enjoyed sun set at this beautiful point

Surreal out of a movie. I used to surf here back in the day. It seems like nothing has changed same waves, same winds, same tourist curiosity. It is my Sunday mass session here today listening to the waves and feeling the cool wind breeze on my face. God is great. 🙏🏽💯🌈

Torrey Pines Gliderport in San Diego is a world-famous aviation site perched atop the scenic cliffs of La Jolla, offering breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean. Known as one of the best coastal soaring locations in the world, it attracts hang gliders, paragliders, and remote-control model sailplane enthusiasts year-round. The site has a rich history dating back to the early 1900s, when aviation pioneers first tested gliders there. Today, visitors can watch colorful paragliders take off and glide effortlessly over the ocean or even take tandem flights with certified instructors. With its combination of adventure, history, and stunning coastal beauty, Torrey Pines Gliderport is a must-visit destination for thrill-seekers and sightseers alike.

Absolutely amazing experience! I was paired up with a very experienced and fun pilot, Alex. He made me feel completely comfortable and safe. But he did some tricks and let me take over for a few minutes as well. The view and the feeling of soaring with the birds is hard to describe. Try it, you won't be disappointed. Do call to check the winds or go early and sign up then hike around the area and come back when you see gliders going up. Brought my gopro and got great video. But they also will take pics of you. Tuesday and Thursday if you pay cash you get those free.

Great walking trails. Loved this. Also access to the beach via stairs. It's a long walk down. Beautiful homes on the cliffs. It's not a difficult hike up and down, but a lot of fun.

Eddie V's Prime Seafood is an upscale dining chain known for its seafood and steak menu, as well as a cocktail lounge with live jazz. With locations near Seaport Village and La Jolla Cove in San Diego, it offers an elegant ambiance for food enthusiasts. The restaurant features outdoor decks, free Wi-Fi, and a community space with occasional live performances.
My wife and I came here for our Anniversary dinner. It was our first time eating at an Eddie V’s restaurant. We’ve heard good things about it so we decided to try it. When I made my reservation, I notified them that we were celebrating our anniversary. Upon arrival, we were seated right away and the restaurant had a very nice surprise at our table. There were rose petals all over the table and a card from the management congratulating us for the date. Our server was very courteous and recommended several dishes. We decided to get the Surf N Turf which was the Chef’s special. The food tasted great and our drinks were fantastic. I personally loved the “private plane”. Very good bourbon cocktail. The only down side was the atmosphere. We were seated next to a large group of people. Over 10 people. It was a bit louder than I would of liked it to be for such an important dinner.

This was an amazing experience. We went for our 11th anniversary, which was a perfect choice. The environment is enjoyable, live music was a vibe, and the food is phenomenal. Service was a exquisite, really felt honored to be apart of this experience. They left roses and a card for our celebration and complimented some treats to celebrate with us. Service alone was unmatched. I had the filet and my wife had the filet & shrimp, we were completely satisfied. Don't miss out, book your reservation soon!

The food was amazing and the staff were very friendly. Everyone was so helpful I can't wait to go back for more! My only complaint is that they are so far from my home in Nebraska 😔. Just looking at the picture has got my mouth watering yum! They also had really good live music the night I went. I felt like a vip dining out eating incredible food while listening to that smooth voice.

Their surf and turf special was pretty solid, as well as their mashed potatoes. I especially enjoyed the live music, our waiters' hospitality, and the atmosphere inside the restaurant. Overall, a great experience with good food and good vibes.

Where do I begin... Over the 4th of July, my wife and I traveled to San Diego with some close friends to celebrate their 50th anniversary. One evening, we chose to dine at Eddie V’s—and it turned out to be the perfect decision. We started with a trio of appetizers: raw oysters, crab cakes, and ahi tuna tartare. Each one was absolutely outstanding and paired beautifully with the stunning ocean view, which set the tone for the rest of the evening. For our entrées, we enjoyed filet mignon with scallops, lamb chops, truffle mac and cheese, and au gratin cheddar potatoes. Every bite was rich, flavorful, and perfectly prepared. To top it all off, we shared the Meyer lemon tart for dessert—and just thinking about it still makes my mouth water! Our server (forgive me for not recalling her name) made the night even more special by surprising our friends with a beautiful dessert and a heartfelt “Happy Anniversary.” Her service was impeccable—attentive yet unobtrusive. She anticipated every need without being overbearing, which is a rare talent and something we all deeply appreciated. The entire experience left us smiling. One thing is certain: we won’t return to San Diego without coming back to Eddie V’s. It was a truly memorable meal and a perfect way to celebrate a very special occasion. - Thank you all!

Just a Fantastic experience at Eddie Vs. Firstly, our server Heidi was so nice and efficient. The assortment of seafood we ordered was outstanding. Shellfish tower was nicely presented. Calamari delicious, burrata salad perfect, and yellowfin appetizer excellent. Also recommended is the scallop dinner.

Wife and I ate here before a concert at the Shell and enjoyed the Point Judith Calamari and Mini Filet Sandwiches with an Old Fashioned and Blueberry Lemondrop Martini (not on menu, made by special request). Delicious and tasty appetizers and the drinks were well made and satisfying. Old Fashioned prep was authentic and had a nice classy touch.

This is a lovely steakhouse with excellent service, delicious food, and fabulous cocktails. It’s the perfect place to celebrate your birthday at and they truly go above and beyond. Our waiter was thoughtful and gave us lots of space to enjoy our meal. We dressed up a little for this location but I noticed that not all customers did. All in all this location is perfect for a date night, anniversary dinner, birthday, or anything else you want to make special.

The University of California San Diego is home to the striking Geisel Library, designed by architect William Periera in 1965. The library's unique design has drawn comparisons to a standing tree or an alien spaceship, blending brutalist and futuristic elements. Additionally, the university campus features the Stuart Collection, which includes 20 large public art installations such as Fallen Star by Do Ho Suh and Sun God by Niki de Saint Phalle.
Proud to get my MS and BS in CS here. Food on campus is terrible. Prices are too high. Rents are high. Parking is awful. But I love the faculty and peers. Neither best nor worst memories in life. Moving on.

I recently visited UC San Diego and was truly impressed by the campus’s modern design, coastal beauty, and welcoming atmosphere. Nestled near the Pacific Ocean, the university offers a peaceful yet stimulating environment perfect for learning and exploration. I spoke with several students who shared how much they appreciated the supportive faculty and the strong emphasis on research and innovation. The diverse range of academic programs and interdisciplinary opportunities stood out as a major strength. Walking through the campus, I also noticed a strong sense of community and collaboration among students. Overall, my visit to UCSD gave me a deep appreciation for its academic excellence and vibrant, forward-thinking culture.

I've tried several times to attend in the school has been most accommodating. It's still not certain that I won't make it there. I have the grants I have scholarship offers. It's just finding the time. This is a school. I highly recommend you're close to the beach times and you have the wonderful scenery of California. Great vibes.

UCSD is a really beautiful campus set on the hills in La Jolla, overlooking the Pacific Ocean. I’m serious, it’s amazing !The professors really do care about reaching each student and giving them the knowledge needed to be successful but the real feather in the UCSD cap is the RESEARCH OPPORTUNITIES EVEN FOR FRESHMAN STUDENTS ! Great school, dedicated profs, Gorgeous campus, amazing diverse restaurants on campus, smart hardworking students and fabulous research opportunities. What more can you ask from a university ?? This place is Awesome.
Ted R — Google review
UCSD is intense, yes — but it’s transparent, professional, and genuinely student-focused. People here don’t just pretend to care — they actually help. I’ve met faculty who answer questions without ego, and peers who collaborate without backstabbing. That’s a sharp contrast to what I experienced at UC Davis, where there was a constant undercurrent of politics, fake friendliness, and silent pressure. If you didn’t play the game or flatter the right people, you were frozen out. Being independent or different at UC Davis felt like a liability. At UCSD, it feels like a strength. The difference is night and day. UCSD challenges you to grow. UC Davis challenges you to survive toxic dynamics. UC Davis wants prestige. UCSD earns respect. Let me be blunt: I do not want some dirt on my cloth so prefer to switch the cloth any way

A wonderful environment to spend a day, even if you are not a student at UCSD. There is incredible architecture all around (hop on a campus tour if one is leaving soon). There are plenty of places to lounge around - indoor or outdoor. Make sure you visit Geisel library, great building and you want a pic with Dr. Seuss. Relive your youth here. :)

The Stuart Collection is a captivating assembly of contemporary sculptures located throughout the picturesque UC San Diego campus. Established in 1981 by James and Marner Stuart De Silva, this collection has blossomed into a remarkable legacy over the past four decades. With more than 20 distinctive pieces of public art, including whimsical installations like a towering teddy bear crafted from boulders and an enchanting cottage perched atop a building, visitors can embark on an engaging self-guided tour to discover these artistic treasures.
The Stewart collection is part of the UCSD campus and thanks for an enjoyable hike. Take a few hours to walk around the campus and enjoy all of the creative artwork. Whether it's the rock teddy bear or the house on the top of the engineering building, I find something interesting each time I go. Some of my favorite pieces include the talking trees, the snake path, and Stonehenge.

I founded a nonprofit to support the oppressed, widows, and girls who have been sex-trafficked in Nigeria. All the museums we reached out to were incredibly generous, each donating two tickets. However, when I called one museum to request two donated tickets, the woman on the line hung up on me—certainly an... interesting approach to supporting nonprofits!

Splash Cafe French Gourmet offers a charming and inviting atmosphere that makes you feel like you've been transported to a cozy bistro in Paris. The friendly service, exemplified by Kayla, creates a warm and welcoming dining experience. The clam chowder is a standout dish, with no sand in the clams and the option to add delicious seafood toppings. Other menu items such as soft pretzels with cheese, cookies, nachos, and soda are also highly recommended.
We just had a soft pretzel with cheese, cookies, nachos and soda but the rest of the menu looks good too! The cookie was the "best ever" according to our teen daughter. Some items are only served until 3.30pm. It was too late for us to try the truffle fries. Maybe next time. Oh there is an ATM machine here too.

The family was about to almost eat each other when we saw the Cafe. We needed nourishment after exploring all the sea and ocean life. The menu is basic but did I mention they have alchol too! Something for everyone! Kids meal comes in a cute little bag! Staff was friendly and food came out fast. A lot of people around us at the same thought after coming out of the aquarium.

Her kindness and generosity was only matched by her excellent service and I look forward to my next visit where I can enjoy a day of aquatic life, great food and wonderful people like Kayla.

Very reasonable price, especially considering it is "venue food." Chicken Cesar sandwich was amazing, but definitely takes a bit longer to cook then the other menu item. It is outside the aquarium, but the parking is the same space.

The clam chowder has no sand in the clams unlike most places(not that I miss it). Add the seafood topping.. it's mostly imitation crab, but it's awesome! I prefer the bread sliced and toasted, but you can get it as a bowl too. Best bay area clam chowder I've had for sure! So good, they box & sell it at Costco!

I went here to the one outside of the Birch Acuarium, I bought a baguette turkey & cheese and a Panini chicken, Food was very Good! But the cashier Elena that’s the name that shows in my Receipt she was handling food with her bare hands after touching Coins and Bills from another customer WITHOUT using Gloves to handle food. I was very upset when I saw that And I ask her to replace the baguette. I Told her I don’t want to feed my kids with a dirty food! She was very rude, didn’t even apologized for touching the food with her dirty hands. And she told me to Go a Way and wait for my food away of her view! That’s Not Right! Bad Experience!

I found a bug on my sons grilled sandwich and when I told the lady I wanted my money back she was very rude! She reimbursed me for just the grilled sandwich and when I told her I didn’t want anything and I wanted to be reimbursed for everything she rolled her eyes and was very disrespectful. I really disliked my experience and will not be returning. My 8 year old was able to figure out that the lady with the purple hair was extremely rude that he even asked me why the lady was being mean to me because she rolled her eyes and gave me attitude when I asked to be reimbursed for everything!

UCSD Scripps Pier, located in La Jolla, is a renowned coastal landmark in San Diego. It serves as both an oceanography research site and a popular spot for capturing stunning sunset photos beneath its long, sleek structure that extends into the Pacific Ocean. The pier's symmetrical concrete pillars create a dramatic visual effect, especially when viewed from below during low tide. While typically closed to the public due to ongoing research projects and delicate scientific instruments, monthly tours offer educational insights into the facility.
The UCSD Scripps Pier is a fascinating and iconic landmark located in La Jolla. Operated by the Scripps Institution of Oceanography, it’s not just a picturesque spot but also a vital research facility. Built in 1988 to replace the original 1916 structure, the pier is used for ocean and atmospheric research, contributing significantly to the scientific community. While the pier itself is not open to the public, its striking architecture and location make it a favorite for photography and quiet reflection. The surrounding area offers stunning views of the Pacific Ocean, especially at sunset when the pier’s silhouette creates a dramatic scene. It’s also a popular spot for surfers and beachgoers, with La Jolla Shores Beach just a short walk away.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ La Jolla Shores near UCSD and Scripps is absolutely beautiful! The sand is soft, the water is clean, and the views are stunning. Scripps Pier is the best beach in San Diego! Every time I come here the scenery always changes and it looks different. I'm a local and I photograph the pier at different seasons and am still amazed by beautiful it looks. High or low tide, sunrise or sunset, summer or winter, anytime of the year it's beautiful here!
Autumn M — Google review
The pier itself is a vital research platform of Scipps Institution of Oceanography. The structure would act as an environmental monitoring station as well as a launching pad for boat and scientific diving operations. Seawater would be collected and stored here for research usage. The view here is great to see the La Jolla Coast and the sunset. The regular beach activities are popular here. Many people would bring their boards here for surfing. During the graduation period, many UCSD graduates would take photos here as a memory of the beautiful place.
Scott L — Google review
My brother recommended we check this pier out, as it's supposed to be a famous pier. It was difficult finding parking at first, until we realized, we could use the parallel street parking that's above the whole science complex. It's a bit of a walk to get down there, but it was more than worth it. The pier is closed to the general public, as it's for scientific researchers only. But, that doesn't really matter, when you're walking on that beach to see the pier from below. It's beautiful, the beach is quiet, and the scenery is so calming. Absolutely worth it!

Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla is located in San Diego, a city known for its family-friendly activities. One of the must-visit attractions is the Birch Aquarium at Scripps, which may be small but offers a diverse range of exhibits suitable for children. The aquarium houses over 3,000 animals from 380 species and features a 2-story giant kelp tank, seahorse nursery, outdoor water play area, and touch tanks with stunning views of the Pacific Ocean.
I ended up going to the ER here and getting admitted to the hospital for about two weeks due to mystery abdominal pain. My partner and I were really impressed by how far the various doctors and specialists went to figure out what was wrong even when all the easy answers didn't lead anywhere. When they did diagnose me with a rare disorder the hospital had a specialist who was able to answer all my questions and moved quickly to get me surgery to correct the issue. In addition the nurses who took care of me on the 6th floor during some really difficult days were incredible caring and attentive and I’m just sorry I wasn’t able to thank them all individually before I was moved elsewhere. I would go back here in a heartbeat next time I have a major medical issue.

This review is specifically for the Labor and Delivery Unit. They were absolutely wonderful. I am a first time mom and was absolutely terrified to go through labor and give birth. The nurses in the L&D unit were absolutely wonderful. They were kind, informative and took such good care of me. I am someone that is extremely embarrassed to show my private parts. But as you know with birth, that’s out the window. They made me feel extremely comfortable. You could tell they do the job day in and day out. I didn’t have a set birthing plan or take any labor classes and the nurses really just walked me through everything while I was there. Up to the breathe work with pushing. The anesthesiologist for the epidural was very gentle and again my nurse was amazing in this moment and helped me get through the anxiety of getting the epidural. I could go on about many different scenerios where they were just wonderful. If I have more babies, I am 100% delivering here.
Sierra — Google review
I’m at Scripps La Jolla with my wife tonight, and while the overall care was excellent, I want to share both the good and the not-so-good from our experience in the ER. First, the downside: there was a male nurse in dark gray scrubs, blue tennis shoes, and a goatee stationed at the ER nurses’ desk who displayed a surprising lack of professionalism, urgency, and compassion. As my wife began vomiting repeatedly, I had to find and bring her more emesis bags myself. Despite clearly seeing what was happening, he didn’t acknowledge us or offer assistance. Thankfully, another nurse nearby at least pointed me in the direction of the bags. It was frustrating and disheartening to feel that level of disregard in a moment of visible distress. Had I not been there, she would’ve been left in a very uncomfortable and unsanitary situation. I understand he may not have been her assigned nurse, but basic empathy and attentiveness shouldn’t depend on that. Now for the positives—which were many: Dr. Le was outstanding. He not only provided excellent care but also personally wheeled my wife to her CT scan—something you don’t often see from a physician. Angela, her assigned nurse, was incredible—professional, skilled, and brought some much-needed humor to a very painful situation. She handled the IV and blood draw flawlessly. The ladies at the check-in desk were kind and efficient in getting my wife registered and quickly back to a room. The ultrasound technician was also extremely kind and professional, even expressing appreciation for Dr. Le’s willingness to assist with transport. I’ve been a Navy Corpsman for 23 years, and I know the importance of compassionate, patient-centered care. That’s why we drove all the way from Oceanside—we trust Scripps La Jolla to deliver excellent service, and for the most part, they absolutely did. I just hope that the one individual who seemed disengaged takes a moment to reflect. In healthcare, even the smallest act of attentiveness can make a world of difference. Thank you again to Dr. Le, Angela, and the rest of the team who made a tough night a little easier. The visit would have been 5 stars as always if not for the lack of attentiveness by the male nurse.

Absolutely criminal how much Scripps charges for an ER visit with insurance. My son fell and cut his nose on a sharp corner and needed potential stitches. The Dr did not administer stitches. Merely cleaned the wound which took 5 min, and then put sealant(glue) to close the cut. The bill? Just under $4,000. Insurance paid roughly $3100 and my son is on the hook for almost $900 For a cleaning and glue. He is a full time college student who is unemployed. He has written billing several letters, and emailed all necessary parties with requested paperwork for price reduction with no response. After three emails and two phone calls he has not received a single response from billing to aid him in reduction of payment. I highly discourage anyone from receiving care from this hospital unless you enjoy being overcharged for a bare minimum of medical services.
Shawna P — Google review
The ER doctor, Dr. De La Vega was very good and I think he helped identify a possible cause of my illness that I will follow up with on my primary care doctor about. However everything else about the experience was bad when it came to the nurses. I am a younger patient, not like the typical elderly person who is sent to the ER and maybe that was why I felt discriminated against for the lack of care. I waited for almost 5 hours on the ER bed and was not even plugged in or being monitored at all and every time I used the call nurse button, someone who was NOT a nurse would pick up and say let me ask your nurse and I never heard from anyone or saw anyone come to help. My assigned nurse, John, was also no where to be seen and only gave me a cup of water and aspirin at the beginning and only magically reappeared with discharge papers after I complained and asked to be discharged after waiting for over 5 hours with no help from anyone. I complained to him and asked for another nurse and he argued with me and refused to change nurses when I asked why do they need to hold me overnight and I asked what tests they are running since he did not know, which is a valid question right? He didn't know why they wanted to hold me overnight and would not fulfill my request to have another nurse help me. Also another random nurse came in to give me pills and I was light headed and I asked what the pills were for and she did not know and said I'm not sure, I thought you knew. I was in disbelief. Absolutely trash nurses and non-nurses who shouldn't be picking up the calls to nurses working in ER and they need to be trained or fired. I was not plugged into the machines for monitoring and they even tried to wheel someone else into my ER room. Seems like they were pretending to monitor me since I was not plugged into any machines and just had catheters and needles stuck in my arms that weren't connected to anything. As a female I also did not feel comfortable being in a room surrounded by males watching me while I had to undress. I heard female nurses assisting others and wondered why I was being treated so poorly by my assigned male nurse. There is something bad going on at this hospital where the nurses and people attending to you go like "let me ask __" and then disappear and don't come back. I think all the nurses need to be looked into for their lack of professionalism since I even saw the nurse assigned to me through the window just sitting at the computers and talking to others instead of giving me an update of why I was being held there for over 5 hours and no one was monitoring me.
Kellie K — Google review
I got a bacterial skin infection in my lower left leg while on vacation in Iceland a few weeks ago. I went to this Scripps emergency room and they admitted me right away to the ER. The ER attending nurse knew right away what it was and it was later confirmed by the attending doctor and blood tests. They admitted me to the hospital for two nights and three days to administer IV antibiotics to treat severe sepsis. The staff from the Doctors down to the cleaning staff where so nice, so helpful, they made me feel safe and cared for I am just so grateful to them for helping me. Dr. Miller and Dr. Ping were especially kind and attentive. I wish I could remember everyone's names that helped me! Thank you so much!

Stay Classy Hostel offers streamlined dorm accommodations in a relaxed atmosphere. The hostel features a TV lounge, billiards, and guest laundry facilities. Guests can enjoy a community area with board games, books, and a workspace, as well as a kitchen equipped with all necessary utensils. The rooms are quiet and clean, with locker facilities available for early check-in. The location is central to attractions and within walking distance to great food options.
This hostel is absolutely amazing! The front desk staff was so nice and helpful, and gave great food recommendations. The rooms are extremely clean, curtains are blackout and quiet hours are very well respected. Showers were always available and always had hot water!! There are multiple places for food and drinks within walking distance, and public transport is super accessible. I would 100% recommend this place to anyone looking to travel on a budget. 10/10 experience!!!

Very very clean!!! Very cheap too!! No bathroom in the shared rooms but many outside the rooms divided in men, women and any gender , with 3 showers and 2 bathrooms each ! Quite hostel! It also has a pool table! Not classic hostel where you meet and talk with everybody , people there kinda all do they own things! But recommended if you’re just looking for a place to stay !
Gloria C — Google review
Totally LOVED my experience. It was great. Fast. Easy. Showers were clean beds were as well. Everyone was respectful and quiet. My ONE complaint is that it is generally too warm. It was slightly uncomfortable and the little fan in the bed was pretty disappointing. But I showered to help with the heat and it was better from there.
Lance M — Google review
This was truly a great place. The host was amazing. He even carried my bag up the stairs when I was tired when I arrived. The bed and private space was ideal for TNR price, it's sooooo much better than uncomfortable bunk beds. It was like having my own private room. I had a bed stand to put my stuff; plenty of plug outlets, and a personal curtain for privacy. The others guests in their pods were nice and considerate. It was super clean and safe. I will definitely stay here again.
Elizabeth R — Google review
Great location downtown. The price is one of the cheaper ones in the area. It is not too close to the main areas so it's quieter as well. I didn't feel unsafe. I met three staffs during my 1 night stay there. One of them was pretty rude which made the experience poor for me. Also, I particularly don't like taking taxis and driving, and the staffs there are quite clueless about public transportations too. The bed is fine. The thin walls make it easy to wake others up. The quiet hours are a bit too long for me too. I understand if they want to accommodate to all guests from early birds to night owls, but it makes packing up of luggage quite difficult (end of quiet time is 8am, check out is 12pm, but those having earlier flights might need to be careful of making noise). For those interested, the bus to the airport is 20 minutes walk away. Nearby bus stop at 11th St and the blue trolley is nearby too. These are pretty restricting for tourist attractions, but pronto card/app lets you transfer to another bus/trolley within 2 hours.
Wai T — Google review
Amazing hostel in downtown ! It’s clean, everything is super close and reasonable price. Branden was super friendly and kind, he let us know so many cool spots and treated us so well. I highly recommend this place !!
Belle — Google review
I really highly recommend this place if you simply need a place to shower and sleep. Private little pod, not a room. Curtains are thick and stay closed. Enough space inside even the twin. Showers are completely private. It's quiet and very clean. Place seems very secure. Only couple blocks to the trolley.
Michele V — Google review
Very clean all over. The staff are friendly. You get personal pods, not bunks. There are spaces for online work and study. Large lounge area. Many charging stations. TV room downstairs. Location is excellent, near trolley and across from Albertsons supermarket.

Coastal Detox of Southern California is a transformative haven for those seeking recovery from addiction. With a dedicated and compassionate staff, this facility goes above and beyond to ensure that every client feels supported and comfortable throughout their journey. From the moment you arrive, you'll experience personalized care tailored to your needs, making the challenging process of detoxing feel more manageable. The environment is not only nurturing but also engaging, with delicious meals prepared by an exceptional chef and a variety of weekend activities designed to promote healing and connection.
DO IT! If you’re scrolling through the countless Detox programs pull the trigger and DO IT. I seriously can’t say enough positive things about this place, if I could give it more than 5 stars I would. My husband and I went to Coastal Detox when we couldn’t stand who we had become for even a second longer. We’ve been together over 10 years with 2 small babies and were constantly fighting and taking about divorce everyday. Drugs had changed us to the point of being completely different people and we were starting to hate each other. For our marriage, our babies, and for ourselves Something had to change ASAP. We got to Coastal 8 days and 30mins later than we said we would - broken, defeated, and desperate - but we got there. And we are so blessed we did. No one gave us a hard time about being late, everyone was so so welcoming and just happy that we made it. They kept us comfortable during the physical detox and everyday there after. We attended regular groups daily, went to outside meetings and learned so much about addiction, how to manage our disease, parenting, conflict resolution, each other and ourselves. I had crippling depression and anxiety and they got me set up with a psychiatrist and helped me get on a medication regimen that works for me. The clinical team is excellent!! Shout out to all of the staff that brought back the man I fell in love with and brought my husband his wife back. Nina, Kay, Phil, Jeff, Hope- you guys saved our marriage. You guys saved me. Right now my husband, myself, and my 2 babies are on vacation before getting back to the real world and of course with 2 kids (1yr and 2yr) life will test you but we have managed those moments far smoother and with level heads using what Coastal Detox taught us. We owe you everything and I will forever be grateful for you! *First photo is us when we first got there, Second picture is during an outing they took us on to Cabrillo National Monument. Third picture is us on vacation- my husband sporting his Coastal Detox Swag

Coastal Detox of Southern California is by far the best experience I have ever had in regards to dealing with my addiction. The staff was exceptional and friendly, and actually cared about me. The facility was immaculate. Nina, Phil Jeff, and everybody went out of their way to make me feel comfortable. If I could give 100 stars I would thank you so much for all of your help. I feel great and it would never have happened without the people at coastal Detox.

Coastal Detox of Southern California is truly exceptional. From the moment I reached out, they were incredibly fast and efficient in getting me the help I needed. The entire process was smooth, and I felt supported every step of the way. The facility itself is not only comfortable but absolutely beautiful—designed to make you feel at peace during such a crucial time. The environment is filled with care, recovery, and love, which is evident in every interaction. One of the biggest highlights for me was the food. The chef is beyond amazing—personable, passionate, and truly dedicated to making sure every meal is not only nourishing but also delicious. It’s rare to find that level of care in a treatment setting, and it made a huge difference in my experience. I would wholeheartedly recommend Coastal Detox to anyone I know and love. If you’re looking for a place that genuinely cares about your recovery and well-being, this is it. This place isn’t just about detox; it’s about healing in a space filled with warmth, understanding, and hope. Thank you coastal detox

I checked into Coastal Detox of San Diego a couple months ago. The staff there is amazing. I felt so comfortable while going through a very vulnerable time. The living conditions are wonderful. And the programming while detoxing was incredibly helpful. I’d highly recommend this facility for anyone in need.
Heather B — Google review
Coastal Detox of Southern California has truly redefined what a detox program can be, particularly through their innovative offerings such as the Horse Therapy program, which is partially hosted in my barn on a weekly basis. I have the privilege of witnessing the profound transformations that take place among the clients as they engage with the horses. Each week, I see the spark of hope ignite in their eyes as they enter the barn, a testament to the detox program’s ability to foster healing in ways that traditional detox services often overlook. The joy and empowerment that emerge during the horse therapy sessions are nothing short of inspiring. At the heart of this transformative experience is Nina, the owner of Coastal Detox. Her dedication to her work is remarkable, and her commitment to her clients is evident in every interaction. Nina approaches her role with a level of compassion and encouragement that creates a safe and nurturing environment for those seeking recovery. Her own story of transformation serves as a powerful source of inspiration for the clients; it reflects the deep connection she has with their journeys. Through her hard work and unwavering belief in their potential, Nina has cultivated an incredible program that truly goes beyond detoxification, offering clients a solid foundation as they embark on their sober journeys. The impact of this program is profound, and I am continually amazed by the resilience and growth I witness. Clients leave with a renewed sense of purpose and hope, ready to embrace the next chapter of their lives. Coastal Detox of Southern California is not just a detox program; it is a holistic approach to recovery that nurtures the spirit and fosters lasting change. I feel honored to be a small part of Nina's incredible vision, and I wholeheartedly endorse this transformative program for anyone seeking a meaningful start to their journey of sobriety.

Start off by giving this is a 10 star rating by far. From the time of arrival the staff has been more than pleasant to help me with every concern I had. Not 1 need went unmet and I can honestly say they went over and beyond the call of duty to make sure I was good. Everyone was beyond passionate about helping with my recovery and making sure I was comfortable. Truly been a blessing from God coming to such great hands. Look no further if in need or know someone in need then coastal detox San Diego.. super grateful… sincerely Rick Odell

Life-Changing Experience at Coastal Detox I can not say enough great things about Coastal Detox! From the moment I arrived, I felt completely at ease—something I’ve never experienced at any other detox or treatment center before. Having been to over 40 different programs, I can confidently say that Coastal Detox stands out above the rest. From day one, Nina and her staff treated me with such kindness and compassion. They are truly some of the most caring individuals I’ve ever met, going above and beyond to make sure everyone feels safe, supported, and comfortable. The entire atmosphere is calming and welcoming, from the staff to the clients. Unlike other detox centers where I’ve experienced high anxiety, here I felt at peace. One of the biggest surprises was the amazing food! The chef prepares incredibly delicious and healthy meals, and there’s always plenty to eat. I personally love vegetables, but even if you weren’t a fan of broccoli, I guarantee you’d enjoy it here! Another thing that sets Coastal Detox apart is their holistic approach to recovery. While I was only there for three days, I had the opportunity to try cupping and Reiki, which were both fantastic. I also learned that if you stay at least 30 days, Nina even takes the women out to get their nails done—such a thoughtful touch that speaks to how much she truly cares. One of the best parts? They allowed me to bring my small puppy, and she was welcomed with open arms. That kind of understanding and flexibility is rare to find in a treatment setting, and it made my experience even more comforting. Even before I arrived, Nina stayed in touch with me, offering support and encouragement, which meant the world. After leaving Coastal Detox, I’ve heard nothing but positive things from others who have also gone through their program. Now, I’m almost 90 days clean, and I don’t plan on going back—but if I ever had to detox again, I wouldn’t hesitate to return to Coastal Detox. It’s hands down the best detox center I’ve ever been to, and I would recommend it to anyone seeking a caring, supportive, and truly life-changing experience. Thank you, Coastal Detox, for everything!

I was an opiate addict for 17 years. If it wasn’t for coastal detox I very well might not be alive right now. I can’t say enough great things about this place. The staff is so wonderful. They truly care about their clients and really go out of their way to make you feel comfortable. Definitely felt pampered while kicking fentanyl and it made things so much easier. They have an awesome chef, great weekend activities, great meetings, and you don’t leave there feeling like you don’t know what’s coming next. If you want aftercare, they will help you figure that out. And last but not least, you’re in San Diego, a 5 minute drive from the beach, all the beautiful weather you could ask for. If you’re thinking about getting clean, first off, do it, second, do it at Coastal Detox. You won’t regret it.

What a fun hidden gem in Balboa Park! We had so much fun walking through the cultural houses and stopping inside to learn about the different countries. We listened to a musician from Ireland, tried sweet treats from Mexico and Scotland, learned to write “snake” in Mandarin, and more! I highly recommend taking an hour or two to explore the houses, and wrap up your experience with a visit to this gift shop where fun trinkets made in a variety of countries are sold. Many of the items are sold to support charitable organizations!

The gift shop contains a collection of items from a variety of countries, mostly curiosity trinkets. The shop is not very large, but it was some interesting items like miniature flags. Flag pins are also available and are pretty inexpensive at about three bucks each.

Standard, quaint tourist shop with various souvenirs from around the world. Pricing is competitive. Comprehensive offering of popular bumper stickers. Some clothing goods and books available. Some candy and snacks as well. Great for tourists who visit Balboa Park and want a cute reminder. Not much else to the place as the size is small and purpose is focused. Staff was friendly.

Marcelo has been tanking care of my hair (cut and color) since I moved to San Diego 2 years ago and I 100% recommend him! He is not only a great professional but also an amazing person. He takes time to explain to me the color process and also to share tips on how to keep my hair healthy at home as well as to share product recommendations. The salon is super cute, conveniently located and most importantly clean and feel very welcomed every time I walk in.

Marcelo is not only an amazing stylist but very service oriented. From the first text to make an appointment to the appointment itself, he has been attentive. He suggested a treatment while washing my hair. The hair wash, treatment, hair cut, and hair styling all came together to make my hair look beautiful and feel healthy! After sleeping on it one night, it is still styled using very little hair products.

Families appreciate how much fun their kids have while making lasting friendships and evolving their basketball abilities under the guidance of passionate coaches.
My son's very first club basketball team. Learned lots for Stephen and Andrew. Great times and lots of friends made.

Just wanted to share this to help anyone before they join. I'm not someone that writes things like this but I had to speak out here. Do not join this basketball club, save your money. My kids did not like this club at all, there are so many other better basketball clubs out there being run by nice people who really want to help and are not just hungry for money. It seems like they want to make you believe that they are out for your best but the coaches are undisciplined and my kids did not get one bit better. Had an interaction with Stephen Winters and his is a jerk. Not a nice person. Don't settle for this club. Very disorganized. Communication is terrible.
