Iglesia de la Merced is a stunning church in Antigua, dating back to 1767. Its ornate yellow facade and baroque architecture make it one of the most beautiful churches in the city. Adjacent to the church are ruins of a convent, as well as a lively park called Parque La Merced. The church is known for its photogenic details and thick walls designed to withstand earthquakes.
Great place to get a nice view of the whole city. For only 5 dollars for foreigners you can get a breathtaking view of the city of Antigua. I probably sat here just admiring the city for over half an hour. There's also a fountain and paintings that are cool.
Erik Z — Google review
It's not the church you have to see (although it is nice). Inside of what used to be the cloisters (?) you will find the biggest fountain in all of Central America and be able to climb up to the roof to get spectacular views of the entire town. As you stand in front of the church, to your left you will see a gift shop. Walk through that and you will find a place to buy a ticket for entry for Q35. Hold onto your ticket as you need it to get onto the roof. I can't believe It took me so long to check this out. It's been open now for over a year!
Dia L — Google review
Very beautiful place..! Be careful over there, we just walk on the street and some young guys ask us if we want to buy drags and start to shut about nothing, we just go away, it makes us feel not really safe. In the church we saw the penitencia, the customs that the believers walk on 4 from the start of the church to the end and back, it’s amazing experience, magic thing to see 🙋🏽‍♂️ There is also a little market near by the church 👏🏻
Guy S — Google review
The prettiest Baroque church in the city. Part of its appeal is that it’s also one of the few churches that have remained standing relatively unscathed since colonial times. The church is very popular with locals and tourists alike. Its stucco work is admired for its arabesque patterns, known as ataurique – from the Arabic word al-Tariq, meaning “vegetable.” This type of relief detail is a sign of Moorish influence, which was popular at the time. The facade features an image of the Blessed Virgin Mary of Mercy, along with some of the more prominent Mercedarians in history.La Merced is open to the public daily, as are the ruins of the convent next door. However, unlike the church, there is an entrance fee to visit convent’s ruins. Open daily from 9 am to 6 pm, the convent is well worth a visit, as the views of the surrounding volcanoes are excellent on bright days. Highly recommend you take the time to visit La Merced, especially the convent’s ruins next door.
Grace — Google review
It's a beautiful place, you need to go to the church and the building next door. It has beautiful views of the city and volcanoes. The price to get inside is highly reasonable.
Cuerposmasfelices — Google review
Worth the visit to see the beautiful grounds of La Merced. The rooftop has some of the best views in Antigua. The interior courtyard is postcard worthy for its picturesque settings. Be respectful, don’t walk on the domes on the rooftop.
Jacob G — Google review
Tip: you can pay $5 to get access to the roof and take amazing pictures of all Antigua.

A beautiful, colorful colonial Spanish cathedral. During the day you can enter the church and take a FREE tour. Many vendors, restaurants, cafes and bars within walking distance. The Arch is nearby down the cobblestone street.

Parque Central de Antigua Guatemala is a bustling gathering spot located in the heart of the city. It's a popular place for people-watching and serves as the starting point for many guided walking tours. The central fountain, Fuente de las Sirenas, is a prominent feature and was inspired by the Fountain of Neptune in Bologna, Italy.
It's a beautiful public space for locals and travelers alike. Located in the center of Antigua, all interesting sights are within walking distance. The plaza is clean, vibrant, and great for people watching. There are plenty of ambulant vendors offering trinkets, food, and souvenirs without being aggressive or pushy.
Coffee C — Google review
Awesome architecture with a free museum showing the history of the city. It used to be the capitol but so many earthquakes and a volcano made it impossible it seems. Just like most countries in the past, it has a past of slavery particularly of the indigenous and others.
Kevin — Google review
The heart of Antigua. Peaceful, family friendly, full of life. A lot of vendors will approach you, but always respond well to a polite decline if you're not interested in buying. There is always something going on in the park, yet it remains peaceful enough to just sit on a bench, read a book, and generally quietly enjoy passing the time.
Jamal A — Google review
Parque Central in Antigua, Guatemala, is the historic heart of the city, surrounded by well-preserved colonial architecture, cobblestone streets, and colorful buildings. It’s a mix of calm spots to sit and people-watch, with occasional cultural events, street performers, and local gatherings adding vibrancy. Many cafes, restaurants, and souvenir shops line the streets around the park, making it convenient also handicraft and artisan shops around the park.
Grace — Google review
Then park is almost always active with people in fellowship, business, relaxing on lunch. There is a tent with book resellers, shops on streets surrounding the park. A large fountain in the center. I was there during the Festival de la Luz and my photos are of an artists video mapping at the palace of captains and generals.
Sonny W — Google review
Parque Central is the heart of Antigua, a beautiful gathering spot surrounded by some of the city’s most iconic landmarks like the cathedral, colonial buildings, and charming cafés. It’s the perfect place to sit back, people watch, and take in the atmosphere of this historic city. The park itself is well kept, with shady trees, benches, and a central fountain that adds to the charm. During the day, you’ll see locals relaxing, families spending time together, and travelers passing through. Street vendors often sell snacks, crafts, or souvenirs, which gives the park a lively vibe. At night, the area is beautifully lit, and the energy feels different but just as inviting. It’s a great starting point for exploring Antigua since so many restaurants, shops, and historic sites are just steps away. Whether you’re stopping for a quick rest, enjoying an ice cream, or just soaking in the view of the volcanoes in the distance, Parque Central is a must visit and truly captures the soul of the city.
Aldo A — Google review
Awesome place to visit. There are lost of vendors sent up there so if you are looking for souvenirs you can get some there.
Anna M — Google review
Parque Central, [Central Park] was founded in 1543, and started as a street market square, where people took things to market, watched hangings and bull fights. It has become a gathering place for locals and tourists, and a living reminder of the city’s colonial past. Its very busy, so have on your possessions and your children. City Hall is to the North, the Palace of the Captains General is to the South, the San José Cathedral is to the East, and the lower-profiled building on the west houses a strip of bakeries, cafes, and shops, providing the square’s perfect balance and harmony. There’s a fountain, several gardens, many vendors, and beautiful jacaranda trees.

Ancient Ruins
The Arco de Santa Catalina is a vibrant and historic landmark in Antigua, Guatemala. Dating back to the 1600s, this colorful archway is topped by a clock from the 1800s. It was originally built as a connecting path between a convent and a school, allowing nuns to move between buildings without being seen. The arch has become an iconic symbol of Guatemala and is often featured on postcards and souvenirs.
Stunning piece of historical architecture! Great place to capture a picture with the famous volcano in the back. I highly recommend visiting in the early morning if you're staying in Antigua.
Jonathan L — Google review
Built in the 17th century, the arch was originally constructed so that cloistered nuns from the Santa Catalina convent could pass between buildings without being seen in public. Today, it’s one of Antigua’s most recognizable icons. It’s a symbol of Antigua, perfect for photos, history, and soaking in the city’s colonial charm. It sits on 5a Avenida Norte, the main cobblestone street. Behind it, you get a perfect view of Volcán de Agua (especially on a clear morning). The arch has a small clock tower on top, which was added later in the 19th century. The area around it is filled with colorful colonial buildings, shops, and cafés. Worth a stop whether you’re exploring for a day or staying longer.
Grace — Google review
Cobblestone streets, narrow sidewalks so always be aware of your footing! Not a time to walk and look up at the buildings or inside the markets. Stop to do that! The volcano is often covered in clouds, so if you’re lucky, the clouds will dissipate briefly so you can snap an iconic photo!
Cheryl G — Google review
A popular tourist attraction in Antigua. Iglesia de la Merced, a historic Catholic Church is at the end of the cobblestone street. There are vendors in the area and many restaurants, bars and cafes within walking distance. Very safe and very tourist friendly. It's worth a quick visit.
Sean A — Google review
This is a cool spot. Like the entire city, a historical place, many happy people can be found getting a photo here. The stree is often congested with vehicle and pedestrian traffic, also vendors selling their wares. Lined with shops, restaurants, a wine y cacao bar, a visit to Antigua wouldn't be complete without a walk through the arc enroyte to iglesia la Merced.
Sonny W — Google review

San José Cathedral Antigua, a remarkable remnant of the 16th century, stands as a testament to resilience despite its tumultuous history marked by destruction from an earthquake in 1773. With its striking 66 collapsed cupolas, this architectural gem is located diagonally across from the Captaincy General. Once inaccessible to visitors, it has been transformed into the National Museum of Art Guatemala (MUNAG) since autumn 2021.
Beautiful cathedral. I got to see it lit up at night on a night walk through the city. Also I was able to go in and hear mass in the morning. The blend of Baroque and neoclassical style is truly captivating. I highly recommend visiting, whether you’re interested in architecture history or looking for a peaceful spot to enjoy the beauty of the city.
Candido P — Google review
The front still functions as an active church, but the real gem is walking through the ruins in the back, where you’ll see massive stone arches, collapsed domes, and columns open to the sky. Peaceful, almost mystical. Many people describe it as both beautiful and haunting, especially at golden hour. You get a sense of the old grandeur of Antigua when it was the capital of Guatemala before the 1773 earthquake. If you love history, architecture, or photography, it’s a must-see in Antigua. Many visitors call it one of the most memorable ruins in the city.
Grace — Google review
Really cool church to visit even if you’re not religious.
Zuriel I — Google review
Stunning! Always wanted to come here! Lovely walk through the ruins and gardens and seeing the architecture. The flowers are so pretty
M- T — Google review
One of the focal points of Antigua, this historic church has been rebuilt upon this site at least once. What is cool about this church is the park which is right in front. It is a hub for locals to sell their wares. In this case, fantastic hand made tapestry, clothing, and rugs. The vendors are loaded down with many heavy textiles, and have a lot of interesting, unique things to offer. There is a lot of shade trees here, and it is a great place to bring your lunch to eat during a hot day! If you are in town and can spare an hour or more, then this is a nice retreat!
William W — Google review
Beautiful ruins, decent prices a nice quick stop. It’s a great place to get pictures and dive into history. Q10 for nationals Q20 for non nationals.
Anthony E — Google review
The Antigua Guatemala Cathedral is a beautiful building with interesting history and previous church ruins behind it. It sits on a site of the church originally constructed in 1541. Several earthquakes led to its demolition in 1669. A new building was constructed and consecrated in 1680. Subsequent earthquakes in 1717, 1751 and 1773 ruined the city with the last one causing substantial damage to the church which is why impressive ruins today are available for viewing for a fee (Q20) to tourists (attending the Cathedral is free of charge). The Cathedral has earned a UNESCO World Heritage Site status and is centrally located facing the Central Park (Parque Central, Plaza Mayor), a place of gathering for both locals and visitors. The ruins allow tourists to imagine the grandeur of the Cathedral at the time, including some of its dark history moments. Some of the ruins include sacred art that has been a subject of restoration and debate. The high altar is one of the most preserved areas of ruins. The visit to the Cathedral and the ruins is highly recommended.
Vera G — Google review
The church was beautiful, and such respect of the people once they entered. They became so silent. They have doors for the Giants That used to be here. I WOULD RECOMMEND

Nestled in the heart of Antigua, Convento Santa Clara stands as a testament to the city's rich history and architectural beauty. Established in 1699 for nuns of the Order of Saint Clare, this remarkable complex features an intricately designed church facade that captures the essence of its time. The convent's structure is characterized by high walls and narrow windows, creating a serene atmosphere that once provided seclusion for its inhabitants.
I recently visited Convento Santa Clara in Antigua and really enjoyed it. This 17th-century convent is a beautiful and historic place. The grounds are stunning, with peaceful gardens and impressive stone buildings. I loved learning about the convent's rich history and exploring the chapel and courtyards. I highly recommend visiting Convento Santa Clara if you're interested in history, architecture, or just want to experience something beautiful. It's a must-see in Antigua!

The ruins of the convent really put the visitor in a time portal to the past. The mix of beautiful flowers and gardens with the structures makes for great photo opportunities too. San Francisco the Great Sanctuary in Antigua is a must-visit for architecture enthusiasts and anyone interested in history. This 16th-century church, the oldest still holding ceremonies in the city, boasts a grand courtyard housing the tomb of Hermano Pedro, Guatemala's only saint. Visitors can explore the ruined monastery and a museum dedicated to Hermano Pedro's life, displaying his personal possessions from the 1600s.
Absolutely worth a visit! A bit more information in English would be welcome but what's there is sufficient to get an idea and enjoy the beautiful ruins and roam around. The place is slightly larger than you'd expect from the outside and if you look closely and use your imagination you get an idea just how magnificent the place must have been in its prime.
Henry U — Google review
While the remaining architecture is impressive, I am more impressed by the ordinary people’s devotion to their local saint. The courtyard in front of the church is a lively place at sunset, with people milling about, going in and out of the mass. People watching alone is worth the trip here.

35q/$5 to enter for foreigners. Go on a weekday if you want decent photos. I recommend about 45 min here. Great if you have time to wander, it's not a must see. Most signs and info cards are in Spanish. I'd suggest if they're going to up charge foreigners, at least have more signs in English. No student discounts. Watch for tourist traps at the entrance. Follow the signs for ruin entrance. Main entrance is on the opposite end of where Google takes you. Yes there's parking for 5qs for 90 min. Drinks and snacks available for purchase.
Bobbi M — Google review
If I have to visit Antigua second time, San Francisco church would be the only reason. The ruins and remains of old structures damaged by different earthquakes have an speechless beauty. People struggled to rebuild the great buildings right after each earthquake during past 500 years. Walking through the columns, thick walls and open arche and the chanting came from the still-in-operation building make me think of this moment every day.

QsoLomito is a hidden gem in Antigua, offering amazing food and a beautiful atmosphere. The restaurant provides attentive service and is known for its delicious dishes such as the moca cake, Caesar salad, lomito, and grilled chicken. It also offers vegetarian and gluten-free options. The outdoor dining environment is comfortable with an electric stove for chilly nights. QsoLomito is recommended for romantic dinners or special events, although parking can be tight.
This is amazing food!!! The best hidden gem we found I antigua. The moca cake was amazing and divine. The atmosphere was beautiful. The waiter was attentive, kind and helpful. We arrived at night and had a beautiful view of the stars and active volcano. The ceaser salad was amazing! The lomito was cooked to perfection. And the grilled chicken was delicious. We have to say they provided the best mashed potatoes in Guatemala. Period. They have become our number one recommendation for Antigua. Side note: we did take out that’s why the plating is not so aesthetic.

Hidden gem! We stopped in for a quick dinner and this restaurant did not disappoint! We got complimentary bruschetta and that was very tasty. We ordered a garden salad, steak and a cheese pot - all very tasty dishes. First time trying the cheese pot dish and I recommend it. It was also a nice thing for the kiddos to try. Service was also amazing the waiter was very attentive.

I don't recommend ordering the steak. We were supposed to get a Black Angus cut, medium-rare and medium. Both came very rare on the inside. What's worse is that it was so tough as to be virtually inedible. The restaurant touts it's "slow" cooking, but our food came out really fast. Too fast. Our waiter was very nice, but never came back to check on how the food was. Again, tough and very rare.

Stopped here for lunch after hiking in Finca el Pilar. The menu was extensive and we ordered the chicken plates. It was well cooked and the vegetables and mashed potatoes were also delicious. The place was clean, nice music playing and lots of open space. The service was tentative and overall was a really good experience!

The Iglesia y Convento de San Agustín, constructed in 1702, stands as a testament to the rich history of Antigua. Although it suffered significant damage during the earthquake of 1773, visitors can still marvel at its impressive remains. Recently reopened after five years of restoration, this beautiful site now offers limited public access and features a small museum that provides intriguing insights into its past.

Aqua Antigua is a popular spot in Antigua Guatemala, offering stunning views and an extensive menu. The Mexican breakfast, featuring sunny-side-up eggs with homemade ranchero sauce and melted mozzarella on a tortilla, is highly recommended. While the rooftop pool comes with a day pass fee, the real highlight is the breathtaking view of the volcanoes, including Volcan de Fuego regularly emitting puffs of smoke.
During our recent stay in Antigua, we sought recommendations from our hotel concierge for an exceptional dining experience. Without hesitation, she suggested Aqua, and we're thrilled to report that her endorsement was spot on. From the moment we arrived, we were impressed by Aqua's elegant ambiance, which perfectly complemented the restaurant's exquisite cuisine. The menu offered a diverse range of dishes, each expertly prepared and presented. We were delighted by the flavors, textures, and aromas of every dish we ordered. The service was attentive, knowledgeable, and friendly, with our server happily guiding us through the menu and making recommendations. The background music and picturesque pool setting added to the restaurant's sophistication and charm. Our entire group was thoroughly impressed with Aqua, and we're already planning our return visit in June. If you're seeking a refined and enjoyable dining experience in Antigua, look no further than Aqua. This exceptional restaurant truly embodies the essence of fine dining. Highly recommended for a classy and memorable evening out.

I have been staying in Antigua for the last few weeks learning Spanish and was looking for somewhere to pass some free time in the sun with a pool. And boy did I find that in Aqua. They have an amazing pool where you can buy a day pass for (longer periods also available) and live music at the weekends. It’s been a perfect way to spend a few hours after class or at the weekend. The rooftop bar is stunning and has in my opinion one of the best views in Antigua of the volcanoes. Would definitely recommend. The cocktails and wine selection are also fantastic.

We had a wonderful dinner at Aqua in Antigua Guatemala! The views from the rooftop were amazing, we even got to see the volcano erupting. Service was wonderful and the food was great with generous portions. We even got to have a lovely conversation with one of the owners who welcomed us like friends. Highly recommend this beautiful spot. We are going again tonight!

Glad I visited once but wont be coming back Pros: amazing views of the volcanos, esp with sunset, surrounded by flowering hedges. Large portions of food. Good music Cons: Average and expensive food, slow service. Uncomfortable seats, the table is the same height as the seats so you can’t fit your knees under the table. Ordered guacamole but it didn’t come with chips but Q50 was added to the bill for 4 small pieces of tortilla without advanced warning. The waiter swooped in to clear food that we were still eating.

I meant to write this review months ago! I had my 60th birthday in Antigua at Aqua at the end of May and I couldn't have made a better choice! From the start, it was obvious that Alvaro knew how to handle the event. He left nothing to chance! The food was excellent but just as important is the service, atmosphere and attention to details. If I could give more than 5 stars, I would! We started with cocktails and appetizers on their rooftop bar then I had a party of about 35 downstairs in the wine room. 23 family members and friends flew in from the U.S. so we also enjoyed a day in the pool at Aqua a few days later! I would do it all again! I highly recommend doing anything there......dinner, drinks, swimming with lunch or a party! It was first class all the way. Thank you to Alvaro for making sure it was a memorable night, not just for me but for all those that attended!

Aqua Antigua is a special place. Without a doubt, it's best place in Antigua to dine and enjoy specialty cocktails- poolside, in the wine room, or on the rooftop terrace. The 360 degree views from the terrace are spectacular, especially during sunset! What really sets Aqua apart is the warm and profesional service - Jessica, Greg, Alvaro and staff treat all guests like VIPs. It's a great venue for special occasions, group events, or a private romantic dinner in "the cave." I live in Antigua and take all my visitors to Aqua. It never fails to impress!

(Translated by Google) I always brought my vehicle here, and I had no problem, neither with the work, nor with the staff, that definitely ended yesterday... I brought my vehicle to have the brakes worked on, despite giving instructions that whatever needs to be changed should be changed, they called me until almost 2 in the afternoon to ask me if I gave authorization to make some changes to the brake master cylinders... And since it was already late, the lady who informed me treated me terribly and told me that they would put my car back together and that I should take it another day with more time (I was there, waiting for them to open, from 6 in the morning to be the first) He didn't care, until I complained to him I had been the first, they delivered the car to me just at the limit of closing time and I confidently left, a few kilometers later, the rear wheel of my vehicle fell off... From happiness I was going slowly, if it hadn't been a terrible accident!!! Today I came to complain about the mishap, for which, they did not want to take responsibility, there was never an apology, they misaligned my car in some way, they did not set the handbrake, I almost killed myself and still they went against reason, it's a shame that I do not have time to file a lawsuit against them for the bad procedure and for putting the lives of my family and mine at risk... I do not like to make these types of complaints on these platforms, but perhaps it is the only way the one who pays attention to me... I emphasize, I have been acquiring their services for some years but this time, the way in which they treated me and the little empathy towards me, and the lack of search for a solution to the problem was depressing... Since the wheel that fell off only had 2 nuts and the front one was missing 1... Very unfortunate gentlemen, value your customers I attach photographs of the wheel that miraculously fell but remained in position, which caused the drum to fall right on the rim... Mucho ojo

Historical landmark
The Church of Candelaria, originally built in 1548 and later converted into a parish church, boasts stunning Baroque architecture with intricate ornamentation. Despite being heavily damaged by earthquakes since 1717, the ruins still exude a picturesque charm. The remaining beautiful facade stands as a testament to its former grandeur.
Visiting these ruins was a delightful experience. The ticket was not very expensive, making it an accessible adventure for everyone. The true charm of this site lies in the freedom it offers visitors. We had the liberty to explore at our own pace, wandering through the fascinating old architecture without any restrictions. One of the highlights was the serene atmosphere. The site wasn't crowded, which allowed us to enjoy our own space and take uninterrupted photos. The beauty of the ruins, combined with the peaceful environment, made it a truly enjoyable outing. Overall, it was a great experience, and I highly recommend it to anyone interested in history, architecture, or simply looking for a quiet place to explore.

This small church is perhaps one of the most beautiful in Antigua. The church and associated hospital were built in 1680 and regularly house victims of the many earthquakes. In 1976 the church itself also becomes an earthquake victim, when the roof is so badly damaged that the church has to be closed. After years of restoration, the church reopened in 1991 and worship services can be held again.

It is also very special since it is the church of the Social Works of Brother Pedro, a hospital that is very helpful for people with limited resources and people in general, in addition to the hundreds of children who are permanently cared for at the Virgen del Socorro home. (Translated by Google) The Church of San Pedro Apóstol is one of the most visited temples due to the social work carried out in conjunction with the San Pedro hospital. The construction of the Church of San Pedro Apóstol dates back to 1654 and was carried out by the architect José de Porres. This church has suffered various damages with the different earthquakes that have affected Antigua Guatemala, however it has never collapsed and some restorations have helped the temple be preserved to this day. The façade of the church is at right angles to the entrance to the San Pedro Hospital, meaning they share a small atrium. The frontispiece is traditional in style, with a central body higher than the sides and the bell tower is located in the center, on a railing with bars. This building corresponds to the Baroque style, it also has circular details of the Solomonic type, it also has a side door. Curious facts Although the façade of the church has four niches to house images of saints, these have always remained empty. In the Church of San Pedro Apóstol there is a mural painted by Mrs. Rosamaría Pascual de Gámez, this mural artistically represents how social works continue today with the charity started by the Holy Brother Pedro. In this church there is also the bell donated by the Government of Granadilla, Tenerife South, Canary Islands, which was rung when Pope John Paul II canonized Brother Pedro. The Antique Book Museum, located in El Sitio cultural center, was founded to promote artistic, cultural, and social development in Guatemala. It houses the first printing press that arrived in the country and played a significant role in shaping the city's history after it was moved to the Panchoy valley. The museum offers seasonal art exhibitions and serves as a hub for learning about Antigua Guatemala's rich past. Visitors praise it as a beautiful place with an abundance of history that shouldn't be missed.
(Translated by Google) The first printing press to arrive in Guatemala had in context a city that had been moved by the recent events of the Agua volcano. The city had to move to the Panchoy valley and the construction of plazas, churches, houses and beautiful structures began that remain to this day. It was installed in a house next to the Town Hall and books were printed and sold that satisfied catechization and the desire for knowledge. On July 16, 1660, the printing press arrived in the city of Santiago de Guatemala, becoming the fourth city in the Spanish colonies on the continent to have one. The first to have a typographic workshop were Mexico in 1539, Lima, Peru in 1584 and the English Colonies in 1638. Bishop Fray Payo Enríquez de Rivera commissioned the Franciscan Francisco de Borja to move to the city of Puebla to buy the press and at the same time hire the printer, Jose Pineda Ybarra was the one who performed that function until his death. It is also important to emphasize that all the paper used in the Kingdom of Guatemala during the colonial era came from Spain. With so much information learned in this beautiful museum, I have no choice but to recommend it to those lovers of literature. It is impressive to see the dates these have been posted and that they are still in good condition. For me this is a sanctuary of literature that you have to visit, no matter what. What struck me the most was that there is a book that mentions Captain Pedro de Savadalles, Mayor of the province of San Salvador!!!

Pretty building and courtyard with free entry but currently all the displays are in the main museum across the square which is also free. The printing press is a reproduction. Original is in museum in Guatemala City.

We tried to go here for days in a row from Wednesday to Saturday multiple different times of the day every single time it was closed so I'm not sure what days and what hours this place even opens or if they even open at all.

I was visiting Antigua and wanted to buy some quality jewelry with jade - the local material. I walked into Fuego gems and saw very nice designs. The staff was attentive and helped me, offering to take out pieces so that I can try them on. I bought a cute jade frog for USD 49 and a designer jewelry from Jason Hyde - without doing some research on this brand. I asked what the material is because it is painted red. She had to ask her colleague and told me it was silver - but it turns out it is painted brass. I paid USD 139 for it and found out afterwards that it is USD 98 online. Still very happy with the jade frog purchase, but I should have not trusted the store with the branded jewelry.

Mercadito de Artesanias las Capuchinas has a rich history, originally established as Iglesia y Convento de Nuestra Senora del Pilar de Zaragoza by nuns from Madrid in 1736. Following severe damage from an earthquake in 1773, the site was abandoned until restoration efforts began in 1943 and continue to this day.
(Translated by Google) There is everything and for everyone, only how expensive they want to sell everything, just for the fact of being a tourist. But otherwise 9/10. Very picturesque, a lot of history, they explained to us about the nahuals. The people there take the time to explain it to you and you have the opportunity to learn more about their history.

Historical landmark
Iglesia San Juan de Dios is a significant historical site that once housed a religious order responsible for overseeing the city's hospitals, particularly those catering to indigenous communities. Today, it serves as an active social service center. The church itself is vast, almost spanning an entire block and features a museum. Adjacent to it lies a small yet charming central park, adding to the town's serene ambiance.
