Erfurt Cathedral

Catholic cathedral
Sights & Landmarks
Erfurt Cathedral, also known as St. Mary's Cathedral, is a stunning Roman Catholic church that beautifully showcases both Romanesque and Gothic architectural styles. Perched on the picturesque Domberg hill alongside the Church of St. Severus, this magnificent structure boasts intricate stained glass windows and remarkable works of art dating back to the 15th century. With its origins tracing back to 742 AD, Erfurt Cathedral stands as one of Germany's finest examples of Gothic architecture.
Erfurt Cathedral is impressive. Its architecture is very detailed which attracts a lot of attention. its interiors are very spacious and inside it is very quiet and dark. For me, the most impressive thing was the organ, it was gigantic. I highly recommend your visit, as it is fascinating to get to know this ancient cathedral.
Janik T — Google review
Beautiful cathedral and heard an organ and choir sing for Bachfest
Adrian D — Google review
What more interesting is no entrance fee. Peaceful and the architecture is truly beautiful
Meera D — Google review
Absolutely amazing architecture really beautiful cathedral. Only disappointing thing is wasn’t able to view the inside but that is because I arrived in the evening although the view of the cathedral at night is also spectacular and even from the outside truly worth a visit very nice.
Karissa G — Google review
This cathedral is massive and must have really intimidated people back in the day. I've never seen anything like it, though someone told me there's another large one in another German city. This cathedral dominates this small city. Pictures don't capture the humongous size; you have to see it in-person to get the full effect. It communicates power. The inside is beautiful, and in one area people pray and reflect, making it a peaceful place to visit.
Margaret L — Google review
This church has so many architectural details from the outside and from inside as well. The construction is huge and is a landmark for the city of Erfurt. It could be worth visiting once, however I noticed that they were closing the gates going to the inside yard of the church in the evening.
Adnan Q — Google review
Amazing cathedral, very much worth the trek up the stairs. When I visited I was also lucky enough to experience a choir sing in there as well. Was magical!
Jibran K — Google review
Erfurt Cathedral of St. Mary is an impressive Gothic church that towers above the Domplatz. Its history dates back to the 8th century, with the current structure mainly built in the 14th and 15th centuries. The cathedral is especially famous for the Gloriosa, the largest free-swinging medieval bell in the world. Inside, visitors are captivated by vibrant stained glass windows, ornate altars, and the magnificent Romanesque crypt.

Nature & Parks
Nestled in the heart of Erfurt, Egapark is a sprawling 36-hectare oasis that showcases the beauty of nature and horticulture. This landscaped gem from the 1960s features an array of themed gardens, including Japanese and rose gardens, as well as captivating sculptures. One of its standout attractions is Europe’s largest ornamental flower carpet, boasting around 150,000 vibrant blooms that transform with each season.
Amazing gardens on a huge site. We definitely recommend the after-work ticket after 5 p.m. for 5 euros in contrast to the full ticket price of 17 euros. On a weekday there were very few visitors at that time. The flower beds were a host of colour and very well maintained.
David W — Google review
It is huge and expensive. So to get the best for your buck take your time and spend a whole afternoon there. But the park is outstanding even on an international scale!
Axel B — Google review
Wonderful experience. We enjoyed the lovely flour belt, the neatly kept gardens (rose garden, hedges and water features). The Danakil exhibition was really worth it. So educational and with beautiful, massive butterflies, chameleons, desert mammals, colourful bird species and partially massive fishes. The rainforest part is particularly enjoyable with a huge ant feature, steaming water ponds and colourful flowers. Walking around on the terrain we found a little farm section with pigs, gees, farm birds etc. which was well worth it. Also the tower with the viewing platform is worth the climb, as it rewards you with a stunning view over the “Erfurt basin” which is the massive valley, that Erfurt is built within. Only downside the price - with 17€ per adult this is really too much. Also beware that on a Sunday almost all restaurants seem to be closed inside of the Egapark, which is somewhat of a bummer, considering one needs at least a full day to explore the entire terrain.
Afrika L — Google review
Ega is always a beautiful excursion. Be it summer or winter. You can easily spend the whole day there with the kids, relaxing in the beautiful gardens or playing in the park, in the playground or the fountains. We also enjoy regular events like Lichterfest, Winterleuchten, music festivals or exhibitions. There are two restaurants and multiple food, coffee and ice trucks, so you won't grow hungry or thirsty either. Especially since you can find a free drinking water fountain next to the farm. Many toilettes are spread around the whole area.
Annih — Google review
Beautiful playground with water park for little kids The entrance is little expensive
Antonina K — Google review
Beautiful and tranquil. Ideal for relaxing and meditating. It’s also picturesque, making ideal for photo shoots. It’s clean, well maintained and costs you nothing to get it. Stop by! You won’t be disappointed.
Oluwaseyi A — Google review
Beautiful and large complex of thematical gardens, so far the most gorgeous I saw. Very well maintainted and clean, with several places to relax. Also includes a huge playground for children. I hope to visit this awesome place once again in the future.
Strigoii_mortii — Google review
The best park in erfut, all the cherry blossoms tress are now completely opened. Few parts of the park are under construction for the next big summit they have in next year. You also have a tower from there you can get a perfect view of whole erfut

The Old Synagogue in Erfurt is a historic landmark dating back to the 11th century, making it one of the oldest synagogues in Europe. This Gothic building now houses a museum that showcases the famous Erfurt Treasure, which includes thousands of silver coins, gold pieces, and jewelry from the 13th and 14th centuries.
An amazing experience. The cache of gold and silver items testament to the sucess of Jewish merchants in medieval times. Truly heartwarming to see the lovingly restored buildings too. A very important site for Jewish tourists. Elizabeth Edinburgh, Scotland

History and how we acted in the past, what was done to protect what was owned in midst of a war by digging up the cellar and hiding your valuables in the ground,. It shows how modern and free we live nowadays. Profound, but reminder of past and presence. Great place to tour and visit. 1 hour or less
Klaus B — Google review
Interesting place to visit to learn jewish heritage. A bit pricey, but peobably because it is part of UNESCO world heritage
Sergio G — Google review
Amazing that they were able to restore it after hundreds of years of neglect. The building and artifacts inside are very interesting. Glad the Erfurt City government decided to commemorate the history and make it a notable place.
Margaret L — Google review
Was able to find the entrance to the museum fast enough. Had a student card, the entry was free in the museum. There were a lot of historical jewelry, coins and similar stuff inside the building. Also on display was a wedding ring from around 600 years ago. There was a restaurant open in the vicinity of the Synagogue. A special looking restaurant with bamboos used for decorating or its construction.
Muhammad A — Google review
What? Jewish life in the 14th century without any connection to jewish life in Erfurt in general? The interest of the exhibitor ends with 1453? An isolated perspective ONLY without any context in a narrow minded historian ivory tower. Worst exhibitions I have ever seen in regard to Jewish life with a conservatory museum concept one would have used 1920. Added: we found out that the story of Jewish life continues in the SMALL synagoge. We didn't get any information nor leaflet nor map for the different sites and I am not sure it's available.
Christian C — Google review
Interesting all the stories of the synagogue and the jewesh community. The exhibition is properly done and the upper room pretty interesting but there is not so much to see. Give between 15 and 30 minutes to visit it
Marco G — Google review
It's ok, but I have really seen a lot of better museums than this one.

Nestled within a stunning baroque palace, the Angermuseum is a treasure trove of art and craftsmanship that spans from the Middle Ages to contemporary times. Originally constructed between 1705 and 1711 as a packing and weighing house, this architectural gem showcases an impressive collection that highlights the rich historical, economic, and cultural tapestry of Thuringia and Erfurt.
Special exhibition of artwork from Heinz Zander were very nice. There were also free of charge exhibition of architects on the ground level that also worth a visit!

Went there on Museum Night when it was too crowed, though the exhibits were amazing and the variety was refreshing. Can't want to come back here when there are less people!
Thomas ( — Google review
Must see in Erfurt. Changing exhibitions plus a permanent ceramics section.
Axel B — Google review
I was introduced to Erfurt’s Angermuseum because I saw the wonderful production of The Hunchback of Notre Dame in its courtyard theater. I returned with a friend to see the excellent exhibition of De Ploeg - a group of Dutch authors that came together in the 1920s. This exhibition was excellent. I wandered into the museum’s main painting gallery and found the groupings by old masters and 20th/21st century artists a bit jarring. I will have to explore this museum more next time I visit Erfurt.
Laura P — Google review
The museum is average size but it has its own charm and chic So many antic peaces of 🖼 art The exhibition is breath taking Thank a lot to everyone who has worked to arrange all this!!!
Erica F — Google review
A small collection of paintings, porcelain and wood carving artwork which is worth visiting. In addition, their temporary exhibition from Clemens Gröszer was impressive. Unfortunately the staff are not so friendly.
Vida — Google review
My time spent there was great. There was artwork from different eras. I had an amazing time and spend almost all day there. The staff were quite helpful, and if you do visit as a student, you get a discount. Was worth every minute

Krämerbrücke, also known as the chandlers bridge, is a historic landmark in Erfurt, Germany. It is the longest inhabited bridge in Europe and features half-timbered houses that now house galleries, cafes, antique shops, and boutiques. This medieval bridge offers a glimpse into the city's rich history and provides stunning views of Erfurt from its cobblestone street.
This is probably the first thing you should visit as a tourist in Erfurt - it's beautiful, there's lots of cute little shops, you can get some ice cream and sit and enjoy the view of this beautiful bridge and all the people who are walking past. There were lots of tourist groups, but it was still relatively quiet. I'd really recommend coming here!
Ripple E — Google review
Amazing how they managed to build this beautiful bridge with the shops and apartments so many years ago before there was any modern machinery! The fact that it is still standing after all these decades is a marvel! I loved the whole experience!
Elmarie M — Google review
Really cool that one can be walking down the street without even realizing being on the Merchant's bridge. Definitely take a moment to walk outside and see the bridge then walk back through - really cool. There are a lot of little plazas around to stop and relax with a lot of little ice cream shops within a small area.
Lisa K — Google review
The Krämerbrücke in Erfurt is the longest bridge in Europe that is completely covered with inhabited buildings. It spans the Gera River and connects Benediktsplatz with Wenigemarkt in the heart of the old town. Small shops, galleries, and artisan workshops line the bridge, giving it a charming medieval atmosphere. It is one of Erfurt’s most famous landmarks and a popular spot for both locals and visitors.
Marc B — Google review
Its okay. It is a bridge with houses build above it. Maybe it was special to many people but for me its simple

Protestant Augustinian Monastery Erfurt

Monastery
Sights & Landmarks
This 13th-century monastery, now functioning as a hotel, boasts a charming courtyard garden and basic yet tidy rooms. The building's history is rich with ties to both Erfurt and Martin Luther, with visitors able to explore the sacristy where Luther once walked. The role of the church bell in monastic life is also highlighted during tours. The staff are friendly and breakfast is satisfying.
We haven't stayed in the hotel but visited the monastery. We had the guide at 11 AM which was very well done. Learned a lot about the history and the monastery and its most famous monk Martin Luther. The guide took approximately 45 min to 1h. Its in German. It's ok to come with children, but obviously make sure they are not running around or not too loud as there will be a lot of echo. If you come with a pram, it's best to leave it at the shop or the church.
Jo K — Google review
It's a monastery type of accommodation - everything is very simplistic. The bed was too soft for me. There was no soap in the bathroom, just some shower gel (do I need to go into the shower to wash my hands?). The breakfast was good but not spectacularly rich. It's very quiet there, which might be an advantage. Overall, I think it's too expensive for the quality.
Joanna K — Google review
We toured the monastery but didn't stay in the hotel. It is an important religious landmark, but I wish we could have appreciated it better. An audioguide or small pamphlet would make this much easier to understand.
Jessica C — Google review
A nicely reconstructed monastery with almost 800 years of history, which is definitely worth a visit. You get an audio guide with your ticket and you can see everything at your own pace. A place associated with Martin Luther.
Petr S — Google review
Great place to hold business meetings and conduct all-day seminars. Very calming rooms. Good food. All in all an awesome location to be productive.
Martin K — Google review
Beautiful old monastery that was turned into a hotel, with quite small but clean rooms. Very friendly staff and good breakfast. It's a 5 minute walk to the old town from there. Some few parking spots on-site, but sufficient public ones available nearby (10 € / 24h). Very nice place, highly recommended.
René R — Google review
This is a fantastic place, used an English audio guide which was very informative. Learned a lot about the monastery and Martin Luther. A bit of a hidden gem. If into religious history it's a must visit
Kevin M — Google review
Great place. The hotel is somewhat expensive, but living in one of the biggest attractions in Erfurt and enjoying the monastery courtyard is worth it. Reception closes early, but lock boxes are available

Very beautiful catholic church built right next to the main Erfurt cathedral. It is indeed gorgeous from inside and is not as crowded as the main cathedral. Definitely worth a visit!

Opposite the cathedral, Erfurt has a second church almost as magnificent. Maybe even nicer, because it's not as frequented. Absolutely worth a visit.

Zitadelle Petersberg Erfurt is a monumental historic site with lovely gardens and a colossal presence that towers over Erfurt. The citadel offers a tour along the fortress wall, providing an overview of the huge area. It has been partially restored and features listening corridors that are worth exploring. Visitors can enjoy a spectacular vista of the city and its landmarks from this vantage point, making it an ideal spot to spend some time, especially when the weather is nice.
Always be my favourite place for a deep talk.

A nice place to walk, sit or relax. A beautiful view of the whole of Erfurt. No entrance fee. Wheelchair access.
Petr S — Google review
Great view all over Erfurt. It is huge and has some fine gardens.
Axel B — Google review
The glass lift looks inviting but there are a multitude of steps before you get to it. For weary legs the sloping paved track on the left is probably the easiest way to the top and leads directly to the main entrance gate. Plenty of space and ample seating.
David W — Google review
It's free to just look around the citadel grounds but there's a ticket for the museum. You can also get guided tours. I recommend the Torchlight Tour.
Ummara A — Google review
They are still renovating some of the old buildings, which, to be honest, are only of moderate interest, but the views from the top are great and the landscaping with all the wild flowers beautiful!

This large complex was used as a military installation all the way up until the wall fell in Germany. Now it is but a relic and it has a couple of museums as well. The area is great for a quiet walk around the grassy hill to get a good look at the town.

Very beautiful place. Huge thick walls! Now I want to see this place in the summer 💓🇺🇦

The Zitadelle Petersberg is a citadel situated right next to the Domplatz in Erfurt. It is an old fortress preserved very well. The fortress belongs to the time when Erfurt was ruled by the electors of Mainz. The fortress is beautiful, and once you climb it, the view of the city centre - the Domplatz, St Mary's chruch, St Severus Church, the old town and the suburbs surrounding Erfurt is really beautiful. Along with the baroque fortress, there is an antique Postbox that can be seen there. The postbox with intricate designs dates back to 1896.

Kromer's Restaurant & Gewölbekeller is a cozy spot with a leafy terrace that offers regional dishes with a European twist. It's known for its traditional Thuringian cuisine, including authentic Thuringian dumplings and homemade potato specialties. The restaurant's underground Gewölbekeller provides a rustic ambiance where guests can savor hearty dishes like braised pork cheeks and woodcutter schnitzel, as well as lighter options such as summer bowl and grilled goat cheese.
If we could give more stars we would. This place leads by example across all points: food, service, atmosphere. Highly recommend you make a reservation as they’re always booked out. That says it all! Locals and visitors, it’s a favourite. Steffen, the owner, hands on which is impressive. His staff are in good form, always polite and professional. Always a good sign when staff are happy. Food! Don’t get me started. Everything on the menu is so incredibly delicious but when you come in May, you got to go seasonal with the asparagus dishes. Kromers’s is a beautiful restaurant and I can’t wait to come back next year.

Best damn spot in Erfurt! Service totally on point, unbelievable delicious German Food, supremely high end and top quality! Beautiful building and very pretty "Innenhof" in the summertime. Will be my go to spot when visiting Thuringia for business but will be purely for pleasure!
Patrick L — Google review
The food was quite acceptable for a group dinner but most of the staff (sorry for the one friendly lady) was outrageous. I have never experienced such a rude behaviour so definitely don’t recommend this restaurant. I would like to be treated as a customer, not a dog. Also coming to ask for an additional drink would be nice than rather have to go and ask for it. Mind you, we were the only group in so no excuses.

All in all really great experience for meat lovers as well as vegetarians. Big recommendation. ✨ Food: two soups, wild garlic and asparagus soup as a starter both really good in flavour and wild garlic soup tasted very fresh, seasoning was just right not too salty or overdosed perfect amount Main dish: German wild garlic dumplings with a small salad, avocado oyster mushrooms and cream sauce really really delicious the combination was on point Main dish with meat: Tafelspitz with potatoes sauce and garlic spinach, the beef was so tender and juicy very delicious Service: super kind from making the reservation until the end always attentive and friendly Atmosphere: if you want something special I would recommend going downstairs to the historical vault

(Translated by Google) We were fortunate enough to be able to reserve a table at very short notice. The evening was perfect! The welcome was very warm, the front-of-house staff attentive and, to our delight... natural and not fake. The food... we were on a grand tour and a world tour... was magnificent!!! Each course was explained in detail, the individual components, and the idea behind it. We were paired with a small wine pairing to match. We found this opportunity quite special, since you still have to get home. 😉 All in all, we were, no... are thrilled with this beautiful restaurant!! Keep up the good work and best regards! (Translated by Google) EUROPEAN WORLD CLASS! We were at Clara on a Thursday evening; it wasn't fully booked, and the atmosphere was quiet and relaxed. The decor is modern, warm, and comfortable. We received a very warm welcome. Let me just say in advance: the entire staff is incredibly courteous and friendly; every company wishes they had such employees. TOP! Jupp showed us to our seats and, together with Gregor, guided us through the wonderful evening. The flow and quality of the service were outstanding. As for the food: we had the "World Tour"... and it was a fantastic journey through the world of flavors. Asian "touch" with regional, Nordic influences. This absolutely captivated us... we have visited many Michelin-starred restaurants and were more than surprised at Clara regarding our expectations. (Quote from a guest at the next table: ...visiting you is the best day of my life.) The quality of the products and the dishes created from them by Mr. Weigel and his team are OUTSTANDING. The world of flavors, textures, taste ideas, and execution, as well as the presentation, are not only worthy of a single star, but also take the guest on a wonderful four-hour culinary journey. Thank you so much for this experience, we're already saying: we'll be back! We ourselves are from Erfurt, this was our first time at Clara, and we can only recommend to all readers of this review (especially those from Erfurt): visit the restaurant; you won't regret it and will remember a wonderful evening for a long time to come. At the end, there was a surprise from the team; we hadn't expected it, it wasn't necessary, but we were very happy about it. Thank you! Nestled in the heart of Erfurt, Zum güldenen Rade is a charming tavern that celebrates traditional Thuringian cuisine. With its inviting courtyard and beer garden, it offers a delightful atmosphere for diners. The menu features seasonal delights, including the renowned Thuringian dumplings and game dishes. A standout recommendation is their authentic Thuringian bratwurst, which has garnered praise for its perfect balance of flavors.
One of the best restaurants in Erfurt! Great food, great drinks and with a pretty huge variety of all types of German and also some typical food from the Thüringen state. Very friendly service and not very expensive too. Definitely worth a visit!

The best and biggest Klöße we've ever seen! We can't wait to come back
Sophia S — Google review
Very nice atmosphere of a renovated old house. However, food was standard. The dishes we had were overpriced for what we had. Bratkartoffeln were too dark. And a suggestion for the staff: do not clean tables with a cloth that has the mouldy smell. It leaves the smell on the table, which is not pleasant, specially when eating.

Erfurt finest traditional tavern for Thuringian cuisine, featuring exceptional potato dumplings and a delectable gravy. 🥔👌 Additionally, this restaurant offers a charming courtyard and a delightful beer garden. 🍺

Rostbratel was a bit thin, but the rest of the food was food. They ask you to pay contactless but only over 15€!? Just to save a few cents in fees, thats so 90s.

Such a wonderful little gem in Erfurt! The food is delicious and the staff were lovely. We tried many different dishes, such as kimchi, seaweed, bibimbap, noodles, and dumplings, it was all delicious! Also great vegan options

Food: for Vorspeise we ordered Hühnerspiesse and it’s very tasty. 🤤 We also ordered the Namul Dolsot-Bibimbap and Dakgangjeong, we have nothing to say since we didn’t left any single meal in the plate. Everything‘s tasty and the prices are extremely good. Service: We make a reservation at 17:30 and the food was served at 18:02 which is a little bit longer as the other neighbouring korean restaurant that we only waited for 10mins for the food. But it’s okay, it’s still worth the wait. Atmosphere: A like the ambiance of the interior, simple and relaxing. Not a lots of table which is nice because they can accommodate all the incoming customers without disturbing the other customers. Definitely we‘ll visit for second time.

We’ve been here two times already and it has been amazing overall. The food is authentic Korean food and the the teas are very soul warming. The only thing that I would keep in mind is to ask a few times about the meat in the dumplings if you don’t eat pork. The waiter seemed a bit clueless about that. But overall great experience!
Helen — Google review
The staff is rude and you HAVE to make a reservation. We made one on the app just to walk back in for the staff to say there is no availability. They waved us out the door like we are homeless and we have 2 kids and a baby i was appauled at the treatment. Instead of ruining our nice family day we just went around the corner to Wollkim a nice korean restaurant with a really nice view of the church!

Great food and very good service. The Korean lady took her time to explain how to eat the food which was nice. The restaurant is close to the cathedral and easy to find. I will return again sometime.

This is an incredible spot serving authentic Korean cuisine. The staff is extremely friendly and provides helpful recommendations when it comes to choosing from the menu. Having experienced authentic Korean food in Korea, I can say that there is no difference between the taste here and there. Omg, FINALLY a great BBQ place in Germany. As an American I take BBQ seriously and its taken 7 years to find this gem in Erfurt!! Best Pulled Pork and Pastrami I've had in Europe. It reminds me of NC, SC and GA BBQ. The BBQ sauce is soooo good. The sauce for the fries was amazing!! I loved it!!! Very reasonably priced, I'd gladly pay 2-3€ more. And the cherry on top, SUPER FRIENDLY & helpful staff(I think it might have been the owner), which is rare in German gastronomy. Your restaurant deserves an award!!!!!

Gasthaus Feuerkugel

German restaurant
Gasthaus Feuerkugel is a longstanding tavern in central Germany known for its classic meat and potato dishes. The restaurant has traditional East German decor, creating an authentic atmosphere. The service is exceptional, with friendly staff who are fluent in English and provide both English and German menus. The food is delicious, with high-quality fish options like salmon, walleye, and perch served with a creamy sauce and tagalleni pasta.
Wonderful atmosphere and rustic traditional Thuringian cuisine with great Thuringian dumplings, made with a solid recipe by Grandma Käthe, who seems to somewhat stand behind the brand. The historic restaurant (not named ”Feuerkugel or Fireball” then) had its inception in the late 1580s and is hence one of Erfurt’s oldest standing establishments. We enjoyed the Sauerbraten and the (meat filled) Thüringer Rouladen, never had them filled with meat but as the Sauerbraten they were authentic in taste and had a simple savoury taste profile, just like they are meant to be. The red cabbage or Rotkraut is excellent in taste and not too sour like you find in many restaurants in Thuringia. The Klöße or dumplings have lovely buttered breadcrumb on top and are filled with buttered roasted white bread, just like they are meant to be - definitely freshly made. The only downside was the extra sauce they offer, as it seemed a bit generic and not the same as neither of the original sauces that came with the Sauerbraten and Rouladen. The grilled and ham-coated dumplings were very tasty too, as for the salad - it was good and tasty but definitely not their strong point or signature dish. The home-brewed country beer was a little on the sour side, too sour for our liking. Generally a wonderful restaurant with amazing authentic Thuringian cuisine, yet very pricey - with authentic dishes at almost €25 each, it’s downright not affordable for the working class, which is a bit sad, because they too should enjoy these wonderful treats.

We loved the traditional dishes and atmosphere. Waiter Mike made the experience extra special!! His charming way of dealing with all kind of different guests, even challenging ones, was wonderful to watch. A gem for Feuerkugel!

Very nice restaurant right by Krämerbrücke. We ate Winterroulade. The meat was a little dry. I wouldn’t have said anything if the food would have been around 15€ but we paid 25€ per dish and than you expect everything to be top notch. Otherwise Service was great we had a young men as our server and he was top notch. He is the reason why it’s still 5 stars - so let him know he is doing an awesome job!

I visited Gasthaus Feuerkugel for dinner with colleagues and we had a good time. The restaurant is located in the old town of Erfurt and has a cozy and rustic atmosphere. The service was friendly and attentive, and the food was delicious and hearty. We ordered some local specialties, such as Thüringer RinderRoulade and Tafelspitz. The portions were generous and the prices were reasonable. We also enjoyed the beer selection, which included some local brews from Erfurt. We had a great experience at Gasthaus Feuerkugel and we would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a typical German restaurant in Erfurt.

The portions used to be bigger for the above average cost. That does not mean it eas not delicious. The service and ambience were delightful.

The Rinderrouladen (German Special Beef Roll with dumplings from the region and with red cabbage) and asparagus was very good. Didn’t drink the local beer but local red wine which was suboptimal (but they are not known to have good wine…).

I've never placed much value on wine accompaniment or anything like that, but if you go without it's your own fault. Since we concentrate on a few dishes here, they are brought to perfection with super freshness and sophistication. There should be more places like this. I've been to a few restaurants in Erfurt but I've never had such good food there. Big compliments to the team and keep it up!!! We'll definitely be back. Cake was amazing. I had the lemon with meringue, and it was absolutely delicious. Also had some of the Apple and nut cake, which was equally delicious. Really surpassed any expectations I had about how nice a cake ought to be. On the other hand, I had some hot chocolate with cinnamon and it tasted very bitter. Also had a sip of the hot chocolate with cardamom, same story. Reminded me a little of what hot chocolate must have tasted like 300 years ago, before people actually enjoyed it and when it was just a class symbol. I mean it wasn't disgusting, just not great.

As a die-hard aircraft fan and spotter, I know many airports - but Hof-Plauen Airport is definitely my new insider tip! Every aircraft lover's heart will beat faster here. Thanks to the newfound openness (the privacy screen on the parking lot side has finally been removed - hallelujah!) you now have an almost unobstructed view of the apron and the runway. Finally you can watch the flight operations in all their glory without having to squeeze through gaps in the fence like a paparazzo. From private planes to military planes, there is now a lot on offer here, and it's getting better every month. You could almost think that the airport is going out of its way especially for us spotters! The only downer? An elevated platform is still missing. Sure, I'm sporty enough to jump onto the hood of my car if necessary, but a proper visitor platform would be the cherry on the spotter's cake! Then you would really have the perfect overview. But who needs Frankfurt Airport with its hectic pace when you can pursue your passion in peace and quiet in Hof-Plauen? So almost perfect for us spotters - I'll stick with it and look forward to more take-offs and landings! (Translated by Google) A beautiful, small, partially controlled (CTR HX) airfield with a very friendly controller and great infrastructure! For hobby pilots without much experience with control zones, this is the ideal place to practice. Once you've landed, you can even park next to the "big birds." The landing fee for ultralights is extremely fair considering it's in a CTR. Friendly people, a first-class pilot lounge, and well-maintained infrastructure – we'll definitely be back and would happily recommend this location! 👍
