Isle of Harris Distillery

Distillery
Food & Drink
The Isle of Harris Distillery, located by a picturesque loch, offers tours of its whisky and gin production process, providing visitors with the opportunity to taste and purchase their world-class spirits. Known as The Social Distillery, it warmly welcomes guests six days a week, sharing the island's distilling history and community pride. Upon arrival, visitors are greeted by a cozy atmosphere with a burning peat fire and bustling activity.
Had a lovely time at the Isle of Harris Distillery. The only had the gin on offer when I was here, but the gin bottle is possibly the most handsome bottle of gin I have ever seen (and I've seen many). The gin inside it is lovely as well. When I got back to the NYC I found the one liquor store in the city that carries it. More recently I saw their first Scotch release and had a pick up a bottle. Pricy for the age, but very tasty.
Tobias S — Google review
The distillery is set within a beautiful building in a nicely set location close to the Skye ferry. We arrived near closing when the staff were trying their best to serve everyone left in the shop. Yet they took the time to offer a sample and I also was able to buy a dram at the bar and enjoy it by their lovely welcoming peat fire. In the shop they sell their whisky releases and their wonderful gin as well as the sugar kelp that makes their gin taste uniquely delicious. Tours are available but we arrived too late. Hospitality was generous despite the hour, and the elderly members of our party were welcomed to sit inside while we fetched the car. The sample was served without water and to me the spirit still seemed pretty young and a touch too hot. I think the bar staff served the dram with tap water rather than spring water but maybe the local water is just that good. Whatever, the water did the trick, unlocking clean malty grain flavours in their bourbon cask offering. The whisky's finish is long and warming, like the sound of a bell that resonates long after it strikes the hour. (It is still ringing in my memory.) I didn't buy a bottle only because I found out that it was available at my local spirits shop. According to what I've read, this distillery has done everything right - serving the community, adhering to natural processes and flavours, building their whisky business on their gin business, and sticking to a strategy without gimmicks. It is difficult to judge the price, which is higher than Ledaig 10, and might strike some as unreasonable, but I think this unique whisky will compete very well once it reaches its first decade, if not before. When I returned home I found a delicious gift someone got for me: the Isle of Harris' first sherried whisky. This and the Cotswolds are now among my favourites of the "newer" distilleries along with Arndamurchan and Wolfburn. Among these, the Isle of Harris distillery stands apart in its laser focus on a smaller set of varieties rather than producing various special releases in a multitude of different casks. I appreciate this old school approach.
J. T — Google review
The distillery was a destination for me and I was happy to purchase a limited edition ceramic bottle. I only wish there were some small bites available and more cocktail options. They have a beautiful store. Definitely a place to stop by on the way to Stornoway.
K. D — Google review
Exceptional whisky tour, learnt a huge amount about Harris’ history and the distilling process thanks to Jackie’s expert guided tour. The shop is fab and worth a visit even if you can’t get a tour - loved hearing about Burr Bakewell and the legacy of founding a distillery by and for the people of Harris.
J M — Google review
Had an excellent time here doing the Haerach tour. Our guide Mary was a wealth of information. I can highly recommend the tour, even if you have done a few already. The stills are something you will not see in other distilleries, and this is the only distillery using an abacus :) There's plenty of parking available, and you can get drivers drams should you be the unfortunate driver doing a distillery tour. As far as I can tell the tour is accessible. There is a lift , and the tour takes place on even floors, unlike in older distilleries where you'd walk up and down stairs.
Jan-Hendrik P — Google review
LOVED visiting the Isle of Harris distillery was so quaint, warm and friendly. They have a lovely coffee shop that serves the drinks distilled there. The real fire was a welcome site. They have amazing tours to see what they do there and explain the processes of distilling the gin and whisky.
Lesley G — Google review
We enjoyed the stories and history behind the distillery on the whisky tour. Not big whisky drinkers but really liked to try both whiskies for the first time.
Victoria M — Google review
Thoroughly enjoyed our gin tour. Mary was a fabulous guide and provided all kinds of interesting information about how the gin is made and the impact of the distillery on the local economy. We had not had Harris gin before and were struck by how good it was (and how beautiful the bottle is!). Facility is absolutely lovely with a comfortable place to sit before a real fire. Highly recommend!!

Croft36 is a renowned food spot run by Julie since 2010, offering locally sourced seafood and homegrown produce. The menu includes delectable options like crab or langoustine soup, apricot and almond frangipane, and lobster and langoustine butteries. Operating on an honesty box system, the place tends to sell out quickly due to its popularity. This unique culinary croft has gained the top spot on Trip Advisor for Harris.
Really lovely home baked goods shed! Nice selection of savoury and sweet. We’re from Aberdeen so familiar with the buttery but the langoustine buttery was one of the best sandwiches we’d ever had! Also options for veggie- the curried veg pasty was delicious and so flavourful. Nice story of it being an eco Croft and sustainable produce. Highly recommend stopping! Also good to have the option of paying through PayPal as we didn’t have enough cash with us - glad we didn’t miss out! Thank you!
Imogen — Google review
A little slice of happiness on our tour of Isle of Harris in our campervan. Delicious warm veg curry pasty, yummy frangipane and lovely shortbread. Love these delights. Thank you for your fabness.
Zoe B — Google review
A must if you’re passing on Harris. Self service bakery goods, hot and cold drinks. We had beef pie, chicken chorizo pasty and a selection of the sweet butteries. We took them to the beach up the road to eat. Everything was clearly homemade and very tasty. Pay with cash or PayPal.
Melanie B — Google review
Amazing honesty box bakery. Hot veg curry pasties were lovely and the butteries are a must. Well worth a detour to this fab little gem.
Vickie W — Google review
We went today just before closing, and a lovely lady offered us the most amazing cakes! There is an honesty box, and if you don’t have cash, you can pay via PayPal. Unfortunately, we are leaving the island early in the morning and can’t return, but we would definitely recommend going early in the day. I bet everything is delicious, and as a bonus, there is a friendly Springer Spaniel who seems keen for a cuddle. Such a lovely place!
Ana I — Google review
Came across by accident on a walk. We had some excellent food here, paid for in honesty box. Fantastic range of food for all tastes. A big big thank you and well done to owners.
William K — Google review
Wow! Amazing butteries (we tried crab and langoustines), delicious curry pasty and aromatic homegrown strawberries 🍓. We enjoyed these delicacies at a nearby beach on a sunny day! This is heaven 🌈

Amazing little place where you can pick up freshly home Baked and home Made goods. We loved the langoustine buttery’s, scones and were sad to miss out on the other things that were recommended. Excellent friendly service with a honesty policy. Highly recommend for the freshest rolls and goodies.

Uig Sands Restaurant

Mentioned on

Scottish restaurant
Uig Sands Restaurant, located on Lewis, offers breathtaking views of starry skies and the Northern Lights in winter, as well as stunning sunsets in the summer. The restaurant provides a serene setting for guests to disconnect from technology and embrace wellness. With its expansive sands and calm waves, Uig Sands resembles a beautiful desert beach. The restaurant is conveniently situated near various attractions such as Callanish Stones and Gearrannan Blackhouse Village.
I had the pleasure of dining at Uig Sands Restaurant, and it was truly an unforgettable experience. From start to finish, the meal was nothing short of incredible. The flavors were perfectly balanced, and each dish felt thoughtfully crafted with fresh, local ingredients. The chowder may have been the best food I’d ever eaten. The atmosphere of the restaurant, overlooking the stunning views of Uig Sands, added a magical touch to the entire evening. The staff was attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable, enhancing the overall experience without being intrusive. Whether you’re a food enthusiast or just looking for a memorable meal in a breathtaking setting, Uig Sands Restaurant is a must-visit.

A superb location with stunning views. A beautiful restaurant with friendly staff. An awesome menu with a great drinks card. A great dining experience and value for money. We can‘t wait to return! Highly recommended

The steak was exceptional—the best one could ask for. It had a wonderful texture, and I enjoyed every bite. I would gladly visit again. I personally left a tip because I was truly delighted by the quality of the food. The dessert was the perfect finishing touch, truly the icing on the cake.
M A — Google review
Another lovely experience here, this time extra special as the first with our toddler. The staff were so accommodating of her and luckily she behaved herself. The food was excellent, atmosphere unbeatable and staff friendly and warm. Even on a dreich Scottish day with minimal views, it was wonderful.
A M — Google review
Honestly the best restaurant we have ever been to (and we've been to A LOT!). The setting is exceptional, the service is incredible and the food is some of the best food we have both ever eaten. I can see this place winning awards! We will both be back hopefully soon and would happily travel all the way back to the island JUST for this! I had the vegan options as well and can confirm they are as equally exceptional as the non vegan options which, in itself, is a rarity. I can't stop recommending this place!
Laura B — Google review
This is more a dining experience than a place to eat. The food was outstanding at my time of life I thought I had enjoyed most things good. Apparently not, this was the best I've ever tasted. Don't hesitate to book a table here it is worth every penny!
Peter T — Google review
I highly recommend! The view was stunning, and the food was impressive — not at all cast under the shadow of the spectacular scenery and beautifully curated interior design.
L B — Google review
This is one of the best restaurants in Scotland. We were visiting from the United States and enjoyed the a la cart menu in October 2025. Starters included very tasty smoked salmon and seafood chowder with fresh sourdough. Main courses included a perfect tender venison dish and local cod that hit the spot. Local gins topped off our meal. Staff was very welcoming and the view is breathtaking. We’ll be back!

The Butty Bus is a charming eatery located at Leverburgh Harbour, offering delicious homemade soups, fish and chips, and traditional chip butties. Despite its small size with seating for only five people, it's a favorite stop for locals and visitors alike. Additionally, the Bay of Harris Community Centre in Lackalee is known for its super-friendly atmosphere and hearty soups.
This is a great little spot to grab some hot food in Leverburgh. It's very handy for those coming from/going to Berneray by ferry; it does get busy during ferry times (see photos). The fish and chips were tasty and freshly cooked.
Ben F — Google review
Good for a tasty and quick meal. Yet, one would have expect that the fish would be locally sourced, but it is not. It is closed during the winter months.

I visited the Famous Butty Bus, just as we where getting our Ferry ⛴️...Great little Menu, has a Big Following , Delicious food 😋, i had a Haggis & Black Roll, Cooked Fresh to Order, and a Hot Chocolate.... Very Reasonable price, and perfect option while you are waiting.... I Highly Recommend.... ❤️😋😋😋😋
Russell N — Google review
Ate here as we were getting the ferry to Uist and had one of the best meals. The food is freshly cooked and delicious! I highly recommend the fish wrap and the Cullen Skink Soup is a chef speciality. You are guaranteed excellent company from people coming to eat here too.
Mhairi M — Google review
Stopped here for quick lunch before cycling to Tarbert. With so few food places open for cyclists riding through recently, we especially enjoyed our food here! I even managed to get a red Thai style chicken and rice (gluten free). Tasted fresh and well seasoned.
Aayla H — Google review
We stayed overnight here because of the butty box and the pub/restaurant near by. An excellent meal and super hospitality greeted us at the pub during miserable weather. However, the owner of butty box deliberately parked his car next to our Motorhome and played loud music from 0530hrs the next morning with his windows down in an effort to wake us up and move us on. He was very rude and aggressive. He is not Motorhome our tourist friendly.
Ann L — Google review
Very tasty breakfast when we got off early ferry. Speedy service for 7 people very accommodating with one requesting cheese toasty rest breakfast rolls Thank you
Emma P — Google review
A stationary bus situated near the pier in Leverburgh. Good for a quick bite to eat if you're in the area, or waiting for the ferry. Accepts card payments.

Guests rave about the stunning presentation and flavors of each dish, making it a must-visit spot for food lovers. The head chef's expertise shines through in every meal, ensuring that even those with dietary restrictions feel welcomed and catered to.
Quaint little place that doesn’t look like much but the food was high end and mouth wateringly delicious. Our server was a little nervous but she did well her colleague was super friendly and reassuring. Drinks were excellent and atmosphere was cozy with exceptional views over the weekend harbour. Desserts were also outstanding the chef deserves 10/10 for skill and presentation. Everything was exceptional. Perfect double date night. Thanks
Lesley G — Google review
Wow! What a meal. Took a drive down from Stornoway, and so glad we did. My brother had been a few times before and suggested we try it, what a great shout! For starters we had pork belly, salmon and i had probably the best Cullen skink i have had. For mains, it was Tarbert/scallops/king prawns, sea trout and venision. Amazing. You get a wee jug if fish creamy sauce as well and the side veg & chips were very good. Presentation and taste were 5🌟, even the coffees were delicious. Staff were great, and even sorting the booking through their FB messenger was easy. I would definitely recommend if you are on Lewis & Harris as its the best of local fayre.
Tam F — Google review
We drove down from Lewis to sample the food here as there are not many dog friendly good restaurants on the island. The welcome was very warm and our dogs were offered treats and water. We chose the lunchtime menu - great value for delicious food. Every dish was superb - I had crab salad, sea bass with crispy whitebait and baked cheesecake for dessert. The place looks unassuming from the outside but it's definitely worth a stop.
Rose P — Google review
Best seafood we've had probably anywhere in Scotland. A very unassuming and unpretentious little bistro which is well worth the drive to this secluded and beautiful spot on the Island. My Cullen skink was delicately but beautifully flavoured in a delicious creamy sauce. I had halibut from the specials board for my main which was succulent and delightfully crispy on the outside. The accompanying pea puree and flaked carrot (?) was also beautifully cooked. Two of us had cocktails which were marvellously done the espresso martini perfect as was the mojito. Our bill was on the pricey side for the four of us but really worth it as the food quality is so good here. Interesting music choice to suit the down to earth vibe which was a fascinating smorgasbord of 80's and 90's hits 😳.
Joanna B — Google review
Best dining experience in the Outer Hebrides! Locals told us this is the best place to eat in the Outer Hebrides, and we can see why. Even though the menu is mostly seafood, Chef George Lavery kindly whipped up an Indian-inspired vegetarian meal for us without any notice — such a thoughtful touch that really made our night. Tip: we came here after seeing an old menu online with veg options, so do check their latest menu on the website before you go, and inform them about dietary restrictions in advance. Worth driving here for a meal if you are in the Isles, specially if you like seafood! We are surely coming back :)
Ankan D — Google review
Amazing food served by friendly and efficient staff. The chef cared enough about the food he'd prepared to come and ask if each course was satisfactory. Our reply was 'more than satisfactory'. The restaurant not only accepted dogs but made them welcome by offering treats and water. Whilst dining we were entertained by a girl with an angelic voice singing gaelic folk songs. Overall, a wonderful experience.
Roy H — Google review
We stumbled upon this restaurant during our stay in Harris and we were blown away. The service is great and super friendly - but the standout is the food. It's absolutely amazing, and not what we were expecting when we came in. I had probably the BEST crab bisque I have ever eaten, served with homemade bread, it was absolutely delicious. The mains were a very close second. If you ever travel to Harris, I would highly recommend a stop at this wonderful restaurant. Our only regret was that after two courses we didn't have enough space to try the deserts, which I have no doubt would have been equally amazing.
Patti S — Google review
Lovely place to eat beautiful inside, the food is amazing, 1st class service from all who served us, the chef even came out and asked how our dinner was - would definitely return if we were back on the island.

The Isle of Harris Brewery in Borrisdale offers a wide range of small-batch ales, stouts, and IPAs. The brewery's beers are known for their simple labeling and focus on quality ingredients. Visitors can also enjoy a selection of craft beers from the UK's smallest brewery located nearby. Additionally, the venue serves wines, cocktails, and other beverages.
First class fish and chips, and lovely welcoming atmosphere for locals and not-so-local visitors. The couple who run this should be very proud of the delicious food, fresh brewed beer and great atmosphere they’ve created in the year since opening.

Great food! The Cullen skink soup and fish and chips were great. The Cranachan was so delicious. It had great views and friendly people!
Greta Y — Google review
We LOVED it here. Was dog friendly, so we could take our Golden Retriever in. The staff were super friendly, the menu was great. It was reasonably priced for the portion sizes. The haggis fritters were amazing, was enough to share. Was super jealous of my partners macaroni cheese, it was insanely good, as was my Cullen skink. Gutted we couldn't go again. My partner also enjoyed his beer! Would 100% recommend.
Shaye M — Google review
The best fish and chips! This is a lovely place, with real atmosphere, great beers and delicious food. The owners really made sure that the quality of the beer and food is outstanding. If you in, have a fish and chips, chips are really tasty, fluffy on the inside, chrispy on the outside. But the fish, wow! Batter is thin and super chrispy, not saturated in oil, fish fresh and delicious, and tartar sauce which is simply amazing.
Peter K — Google review
This welcoming place has a very nice restaurant area attached in addition to a retail outlet featuring brews made on the premises. Decor is modern and clean. Staff are lovely and food was good. Well worth a visit when in Leversburgh. 👍👍👍

Fantastic little place right next to the ferry terminal. The Langoustine's were amazing! Friendly staff and a nice selection of beers. Well worth a visit.
Dan P — Google review
I visited the Brewery a couple of times while on holiday on Harris a week ago. The place is wonderful. The food is excellent, the deli is fabulous and the vibe is great. Loved sitting watching the ferry coming and going too. But there has to be a special mention for every member of staff who were so friendly, warm and welcoming to me and my dog. Thank you to you all.
Fiona E — Google review
Situated at the pier head in Leverburgh, Isle of Harris Brewery is a great find. There is a little shop selling gifts and sweet treats, and a restaurant serving meals. We took away a giant cookie (best cookie I've ever had!) and a millionaire's shortbread. The shop also sells gifts and bottled beers, etc. We returned the following day to try out the restaurant and so glad we did. The food was insanely good. We had the beef burger and haddock and chips. Haddock was skinless and landed at Stornoway. Highly recommend this place!

Lews Castle, a restored Victorian castle located in the heart of a municipal park, is more than just a historic site. It also serves as a community center housing a collection of artifacts that showcase the local culture and history. The castle grounds include the local college, archives, and council nursery. Visitors can explore the dark woods and enjoy the surrounding park area.
Engaging exhibition on life in the Hebrides that is in enjoyable chunks. The all-around scenery room is great and the stories of people who lived and left interesting. Did not see the castle as there was a wedding. Nice cafe and no charge for the museum. Good activity before catching the ferry.
Colin I — Google review
Really nice castle with the ground floor open for tours. Upper floors are private residences. Interesting museum on site with a history of the island and culture. Small gift shop and café with coffee and light snacks.
Tim B — Google review
A lovely castle and grounds. The attached museum is a fantastic place. At the time of our visit six of the Lewis Chessmen were on display. The cafe is also lovely. We had lovely soup served by young, friendly people.
Kim — Google review
We walked to the Lews Castle from Stornoway and spent longer there than we had intended walking around the vast gardens. The Castle was setting up for a wedding so we had a quick look inside. It looked very nice with huge rooms. The grounds are extensive and really well maintained for their size. Highly recommend visiting.
Bridget S — Google review
Stayed here for two nights on Stornaway. A little separated from the rest of town it is connected by a short but lovely walk through the grounds. The rooms are spacious and well furnished. Breakfast is not included but there is a cafe on the ground floor open most days. Parking is plentiful. The castle itself is beautiful inside and out. It's lit up nicely at night making a good beacon to walk home from one of the many good restaurants nearby. It also doubles as an event, including weddings, and the rooms used are gorgeous.
David C — Google review
A beautiful bit of architecture situated in a fascinatingly beautiful non-native area. There's a cafe inside, though I can't attest to its food. I was slightly dissapointed by the interior of the Castle itself (which this review is for) since its all converted over to a venue. Its still nice to look at though!
Leon R — Google review
Went for park run and grounds are a fine walk. The castle itself is a hotel, cafe and function hire place. Not really a castle that you can tour round. It's free to go in to the cafe and shop so you can see a little bit of it.
Dawn A — Google review
Although there is no furniture inside it has a beautiful watercolour painted either side of fireplace in one room and lovely views from the windows. The grounds are lovely too and cafe worth a visit. Owned by Lever of domestic washing products in its heyday.

Fantastic place to stay. The Lodge has wonderful views from all rooms. Sleeps 16 if you are a large group. Food is local, especially the salmon & the chief cooks great meals. All the staff are very friendly & helpful. I hope to visit again.

Fabulous location enhanced by warmth of welcome. The Lodge is situated on a glorious beach, near to the lochs and hills which make this place so memorable. Oh and sheep, lots of sheep who seem oblivious to humans, I guess it’s their home and we are transient. Park at the front, enter by the huge door, take off your boots and the smell of peat fire welcomes you. Meals are served in the dining room where guests seat next to one another at one long table, I recommend the omelettes. Eric the chef makes superb monster omelettes, his deputy Chris, who is the ghillie, can also do omelettes, now. Whether he had to goggle how to make them may be only a vicious rumour ! The Lodge also offer their own salmon, delicious and black pudding. We didn’t eat at dinner at the Lodge, but other guests who did seemed very satisfied. A large and very comfortable lounge is next door, with the peat wood fire, which seemed to be lit by the indomitable Christy. She flutters around endlessly serving and working, she never seems to sleep. She said she did, but I think she may be lying. If the weather is bad or you’re having a relaxing day, sit, read, watch, look, listen and enjoy. Our room was large, comfortable and warm. Plenty of space to potter around each other without falling over. The tap water is soft and pure, fantastic to taste. The bathroom was literally opposite the bedroom door was perfectly acceptable with a view up of the stars or sun. The location is superb, the staff as friendly and helpful as you can ever want. The distance and time it takes to get is nothing compared to the memory of the place.

Stunning view. The owner is just so friendly and welcoming. I can't begin to explain the cosiness of the place... It was just the best after a week in a campervan. The breakfast and dinner were excellent. The bathroom and the room were spotless and the bed very confortable. We would love to come back!

We stayed here for three nights and I wish it could have been longer. The staff were helpful and the food was fantastic. I enjoyed all the guests eating at a long table and congregating by the fireplace drinking scotch. I felt as if I was in an Agatha Christie book. Unbelievable beautiful location.

Wohderful location. I saw an otter on the first day. Beautiful unique views. Lovely house full of character. Warm and cosy. Comfortable rooms. Had a look at the new restaurant opening a few minuted from it. It will be an amazing venue with fresh local food with stunning views. Highly recommend the lodge.
Paul E — Google review
My mother, sister and I spent 4 days here in March (along with my Rottweiler (sorry Eric! 😘)) and we can’t emphasise enough what a FABULOUS place it is. The owners and staff were soooo friendly and helpful, the lodge is beautiful, the scenery is stunning, and the food cooked by Eric and at the sister restaurant next door is fantastic. I was out walking my dog just before dawn one morning when a whole herd of deer thundered right past us over the lawn at the front door. AMAZING. The entire time there couldn’t be faulted and I urge anyone who possibly can go, to go. You won’t be disappointed. We’ll be back!

This charming cafe overlooks Broad Bay and Lews Castle parklands. The staff are lovely, decor clean and modern. The pistachio cake is superb and coffee excellent! There is a small area featuring arts and crafts for sale. Highly recommend this place. 👍👍👍

Great view. Wonderful coffee nd baked goods.

The staff were… quite frankly….rude! Whilst nice to us; I saw them be rude to other customers. Both to them direct - and then even worse - behind their back. And the whole place is filled with signs telling you what not to do! Crazy vibe

Lovely little cafe and staff- chai latte the best I've had! Peach cobbler cake divine. Shame didn't do savoury food which I'd seen on their IG. Gift shop lovely too. Will return.

What a lovely place, really was. Really well decorated inside, looks brilliant but, today, it's all about the weather and outside. Man, it was hot but the Blue Lodster has a great sitting area outside. Lovely, friendly staff served us, coffee and cake, all round and some treats for our dog 🐕 Lovely 👌

This is an absolute gem of a place to stop. We stopped for some food and sat outside. The view is simply stunning, and I would say it must be one of the best views from a cafe in the UK.

Friendly Staff, Lovely Views. Soup and House salad, Hummus and Sundried Tomato Ciabatta is all SVF vegan friendly. And the Chips are cooked separately. They do Oat Milk aswell. More options for dinner.

Gorgeous cafe and gift shop. The views from the cafe are amazing and the coffee and cakes were excellent (GF choices available). The gift shop is small but full of beautiful, local gifts. I bought one of the Reed diffusers that smells amazing.

This is a beautiful site with good facilities with hot, clean showers. There's a bistro onsite which is dog friendly, and a lovely art shop of local artists.

A must visit - if not for the tasty cake and locally roasted coffee - then definitely for the views! Dog friendly, vegan options, super friendly staff. 👍😁

We were camping at a nearby site, and since the weather turned (as is often the case in this end of the world, I'm told), we've decided to book a meal here. (I strongly suggest booking ahead to avoid disappointment). We've arrived on time to be welcomed by attentive staff and small but very pleasant restaurant. I was quickly told that the place is dog friendly, and they had no issues with me bringing the German sheppherd inside. After being sat down, the menu came out with very reasonable prices and sensible choice of food. The starters came out nice and quick and were small but amazing. The taste, the texture, the smell, and the way the meal was served were brilliant and were a sign of things to come. The mains did not disappoint either, with a great meal and a decently sized portions. And then came time for dessert, which again was absolutely amazing. All in all this was an experience of a meal prepared by a chef who was a maestro in his field and served by staff who were cheerful and happy. Ahh... one more thing... the view from the restaurants are amazing!

Transportation in Lewis and Harris

Getting around Lewis and Harris can be a little daunting if you’re new here. We can help list some of the major public transportation methods if you don’t want to rely on a car.

Stornoway Airport

Airport
Stornoway Airport is a small and friendly airport located in Scotland. It offers a pleasant and efficient travel experience with helpful staff, thorough security, and clean facilities. The airport features car rental services, spacious parking, clean restrooms, and vending machines in the waiting areas. Additionally, it serves as a transportation hub with regular ferry services to Ullapool. Despite its size, the airport provides excellent assistance to travelers including helping with lost baggage.
Very small airport, but a good experience here. Arriving is nice and straightforward. You walk off the tarmac and right into Arrivals where the baggage carousel is. Bags were off the plane and in within minutes. The terminal itself has a little area where you can purchase food and drink. It's very small but you can pickup a sandwich, sweet treat, etc. Check-in for departure was easy, no different to anywhere else. The departures process I found a little odd in that there were callouts over the speaker for random passengers to go for a bag search. Due to the size of the place, perhaps? When called for your flight, you head through x-ray with carry-on. Staff were very pleasant at all stages. Nice, easy experience.

I LOVE small airports. Step from runway into baggage retrieval and another few yards to the exit. One week later, returning home. Added videos of the front and main (and only?) hall.

What a nice airport. The staff were extremely pleasant and patient. Security is thorough but they keep the lines moving. Nothing fancy, but very functional. I did notice a car rental space and the parking lot was spacious with plenty of parking spaces. Restrooms were clean and fully stocked. There we vending machines in the waiting areas. Don’t expect high end malls. Really enjoyed the flight.

Brilliant little airport, check in and security very simple. Food was good too, classic burger was locally sourced and very tasty

For the size of the airport, its brilliant. Not much to do, but the staff are welcoming and friendly, and its not overly expensive.

Sign of the times that I'm still waiting at the airport over 3 hours after I should have left. All staff at the airport have been fantastic, all very helpful. A great breakfast. Nice to be able to have a bit of a laugh despite what I'm sure is a very hassling time for the staff here. Thankyou all at Stornoway airport. So Google prompted me to update my review from maybe 6 months ago. Has anything changed? My Loganair flight was very efficient with both legs being on time and landing a little early. Is this because Loganair are now super efficient? Sadly no. They were in a rush because they had cancelled the flights the day before and had a large backlog to clear. I'm pleased to report Stornoway airport is still very pleasant and staff are great. 2024 update: One of the few airports still with 3hrs free parking. The daily charge of £3 per day sounds quite good but soon adds up, and no security guarantee. The old days of a rustic but free car park were much better. Buses to/from are a joke. Still nowhere to stow bike.

Possibly the cutest airport in the world? But its modern clean and efficient and you get 2 (count em) hours free parking 👍

Dropped in out of curiosity initially... Free car park near to runway with great views of planes taking off and landing. Nice cafe inside if you fancy a snack or a cuppa. Staff are friendly as are all the folk on benbecula.

Friendly efficient staff, well run, good clean facilities. It's in a remote part of the UK and faces some difficult weather at times, so don't expect the same frequency of flights or facilities at a major international hub.
FlyerDavidUK — Google review
Missed my flight which I understand is my fault but tried organising another flight home and they only have one flight a day so was told to leave the airport and come back the next day as it shut. Worst experience will avoid flying from here in future. Stansted is better.
