Historical landmark
Sights & Landmarks
Old Castle, also known as Grodno Old Castle or Hrodna Upper Castle, is a historic fortress located in the heart of Grodno, Belarus. Built in the 11th century, it offers visitors a glimpse into the region's rich history and architectural heritage. The castle houses a museum with artifacts from different historical periods including stone age findings, items from the Great Duchy of Lithuania era, World War II objects and more.
The Old Castle in Grodno is a truly fascinating historical site that offers a deep dive into the medieval history of Belarus. The location is stunning, perched on a hill overlooking the Neman River, and the views are absolutely breathtaking. Walking through the castle grounds feels like stepping back in time. Some areas are currently under renovation, but it doesn’t take away from the overall experience. The museum inside is small but interesting, with artifacts that give insight into the region’s past. If you’re visiting Grodno, this place is a must-see — both for history lovers and anyone who enjoys beautiful architecture and panoramic landscapes! 🏰 We were here on Belarus Independence Day 🙌

The old castle is a place to visit when traveling to Hrodna. The visit takes 2 to 3 hours depending on your pace. Translation is available in several languages. The top of the castle gives you a good look at the surrounding.
M-L — Google review
This place is renovated and lost its originality but lots of historical equipments are displayed.
Abdulla S — Google review
The Old Castle in Grodno or Hrodno as it is known locally looks very interesting and has a great view over the river. Unfortunately the castle was closed when we visited and it looks like there is some building work going on so perhaps it is being refurbished. I would like to go back and visit sometime and have a proper look around. The Old Castle is next door to the New Castle which looks more like a stately home or similar then a castle.
Phillip W — Google review
The castle is well preserved, old an important to Lithuania. But the museum is terrible, both infrastructure and the whole second floor, talking about the 'great history of Communism'.
Marius G — Google review
A well and lovely museum of the history of Grodna and also of the flora and fauna around the city. Everyone who is interested in Grodna should look in.
Sebastian J — Google review
The castle is pretty good itself. There are a lot of beautiful views here to the city, to the river and parks. Very rear you can see some performance here (actually never saw myself). The museum inside is not so good and not about the castle in general. You can find here just common exhibition about different history and archeology periods and some material about Belarus, USSR times also.
Eugene K — Google review
Very interesting museum. Wide national exposition that covers the history of the place from ancient times to the Soviet period. This exhibition is not only about history but presents local flora and fauna too. It is highly recommended to visit.

Sights & Landmarks
Nestled in the historic city of Grodno, Belarus, the Kalozha Church of St. Boris and Gleb stands as a testament to ancient architecture, dating back to the 12th century. This iconic Eastern Orthodox church is celebrated for its unique blend of brick and natural stone construction, adorned with intricate ceramic tiles that embellish its walls.
Words can't express what I felt staring at this ancient astonishing church! I believe the renovation was done at its finest to recreate as closely as possible the building's original look.
Dmitry N — Google review
It’s my church. I was born in this city, and always come back to visit. It is always a spiritual place, very beautiful and holy. Thank you for restoring it and keeping it original.
Gleb D — Google review
In 2018 I would almost go to this church every day for the 6 months I lived there. I never felt more comfortable with Father Ighor. I absolutely miss my church, I pray that it continues to stand strong and all of the nuns are healthy.
Yuliya A — Google review

Sergei G — Google review
Nice church in a beautiful park only 5 min outside the city center
Marco G — Google review
Historic place. Borisoglebsk Church, Kolozhskaya Church or simply Kolozha is one of the surviving architectural structures of Belarus from the period of Old Russia. The only surviving (in distorted form) monument of black Russian architecture. Located on the high bank of the Neman River. Together with the complex of monuments of Zamkovaya Gora it is declared a historical and architectural reserve. Included among the sites proposed by the Government of Belarus as candidates for inclusion in the UNESCO World Heritage List
Vladimir M — Google review
There is no greater education than standing upon the ground of history!
Joseph B — Google review
Does not look so authentic after renovation but still the interior hasn't been touched much and this is close to how it looked like centuries ago

St. Francis Xavier Cathedral

Mentioned on

Catholic cathedral
St. Francis Xavier Cathedral, also known as the Farny Cathedral, is a stunning Roman Catholic church and one of the top attractions in Grodno, Belarus. This architectural gem impresses visitors with its magnificent Baroque-style design and rich ornamentation. It features a 21-meter high carved altar adorned with figures and houses one of the oldest working tower clocks in Western Europe.
One of the most beautiful Cathedrals in Belarus. The main sightseeing point in Grodno. The Cathedral is beautiful both inside and outside. It also makes street panoramas amazing. The building is very interesting from its back side. Bright light blue roofs, white walls, sound of the main bell. Inside this building is also very beautiful! Cathedral makes panorama of Grodno very recognizible.

(Translated by Google) The Cathedral of St. Francis Xavier is a minor basilica. There are only four such basilicas in Belarus. The first mass was held in 1700, but the church was subsequently completed. The church was consecrated in 1705 by Bishop Teodor Patocki of Chelmno in the presence of Tsar Peter I and King Augustus II of Poland. The church has a magnificent interior. You could spend ages admiring this beauty. The church has a clock with a 16th-century mechanism. The clock is functional.

(Translated by Google) A stunningly beautiful church! The wooden altar (I think it was built in the 17th century) has survived to this day! Tourists are not allowed to come closer to the central and side altars, there are fences with the sign "for worshipers only". But even from afar, everything looks impressive! (Translated by Google) the zoo is just awful, all the animals sit in their little cubicles, don't come out into the light. no one to look at!!!!!! in all the cages there are only pigeons and sparrows, and who needs these roosters that everyone has at their dacha!! those on the outside look sickly bad 😬😬😬 the terrarium is only open until 15:00!!!!!!!! and the bridge.. my favorite ... they broke it and closed it 😔 very dirty, unsanitary conditions everywhere........ I won't even mention the price!!!! 13 rubles, well, that's incomprehensible!!!!!1!!........ the woman at the checkout was completely impudent, tried to rip me off for 10 rubles in change..... and didn't even apologize... I don't recommend it to anyone, it's better to just look at pictures on Google... definitely won't set foot here again....😣 (Original)

(Translated by Google) Such a wonderful, beautiful city, but the Zoo did not live up to our expectations. Terrible conditions for animals. Small cages, only a floor and a couple of branches. No trees inside, no normal locations. The fence and everything else is from the Soviet Union, they could have redone it. We were in the animal park in Baranovichi, Minsk, everything is very beautiful there, at a height, and here we wasted our money. It was a pity for the animals, it's hot, and they have nowhere to hide from the sun, they lie on the sand and die ((( (Original)

(Translated by Google) The bird exhibit was decent, since most bird species are usually kept as pets. The mammal exhibit, especially the large predators, was extremely depressing. The bears and monkeys were pacing back and forth in a state of zoochosis. The bear enclosures were all concrete and stone, no greenery, just a dirty pond where they could cool off. The ungulates were also kept in small enclosures, with virtually no greenery. The toucan was either sick or very stressed, and was going bald. This zoo was the first place where I felt sorry for the hyena. I am not a fan of zoos in general, but the enclosures could have been made bigger, so that they would have been more interesting and natural for their inhabitants.

(Translated by Google) We were on holiday in Grodno and decided to visit the zoo. Unfortunately, we were very upset and saddened that such prisons for poor animals still exist. Nowadays, zoos should meet modern standards. Animals and birds should be kept as in nature, where there is enough space for their normal existence, lifestyle, needs. And not in cages, where, one might say, there is no room to turn around. A real nightmare. I am sure that the government of Belarus has enough resources to build a normal wildlife park! I wish you to do this. Also think about equipping the park with sufficient stations where you can buy water, food, where children can play, a room for mothers and children to change diapers, etc. In general, this is unacceptable in our time. It is a pity to see this.

Pharmacy and Museum Biotest NPK is situated in the heart of Grodno, near the Catholic Cathedral. The museum showcases the history of pharmacies and pharmaceuticals, with a focus on their connection to Catholic monastic orders. Visitors can explore elegant and minimalist displays of medical instruments and historical artifacts reflecting the evolution of pharmacy. Additionally, there is a functioning pharmacy on-site with a separate historical room for an educational experience.
A small one room museum. It's free to visit. Great to pop in and just spend a few minutes there. The explanations are in Russian, but there are just a few of them anyway. It was fun to just look at the old medicine bottles and other stuff along those lines.

Originally built in Gothic style, it was reconstructed into a stone church in the neo-Gothic style by the early 19th century. The church's history is intertwined with the coexistence of religions and it stands as a historic place where visitors can engage with its past. The building's architecture resembles that of a Catholic church, adding to its uniqueness within the region.

(Translated by Google) In 1793, the Polish king Stanislaus II gave the Grodno Evangelical Lutheran community the building of the former tavern, which was adapted as a church. At the beginning of the 19th century, the reconstruction of the three-story building of the former tavern into a stone church in the neo-Gothic style was started. By 1843, the construction of the stone church was finished. The final appearance of the church took place in 1873, when the bell tower was decorated with clocks. In 1912, a significant reconstruction of the church was carried out. The facade was plastered, a new parsonage and a Lutheran school were built on the side of the altar. Now organ concerts are held. The organist's performance impresses with its skill. After the entire building was plastered and painted, it looks like a remake. All the old charm has been lost. In our country, many old buildings are “restored” like this, unfortunately... The Hrodna State Museum of Religion History, established in 1977 and opened to the public in 1985, is a captivating destination dedicated to showcasing the religious heritage of Belarus. The museum features exhibits on the history of Grodno and various halls highlighting the religious history of Belarus. Visitors can explore this stunning museum for an affordable entrance fee and opt for an audio guide to enhance their experience.
The only museum of it's kind in Belarus. It was very interesting. There weren't a lot of captions or explanations in English, but much of it is self explanatory. There are expostions for Christianity, Judiasm, and Muslim religions. When we were there, there was an exposition of anti-religious propaganda to commemorate 100 years after the Soviet Revolution.

Nestled in the heart of Grodno, Gastrobar Werden is a delightful culinary gem that beautifully blends modern flair with traditional influences. Opened by three friends from St. Petersburg, this stylish establishment offers a unique menu featuring intriguing dishes and craft beers sourced from local microbreweries. The ambiance is cozy, complete with inviting booths and a charming terrace perfect for enjoying your meal al fresco.
Just loved the, the best food I've eaten in grodno in last 6 months was here !!! The food, quality and the service all are excellent !!!

It's a long way ahead. Waiting time is absolutely inappropriate. To wait more than 40 minutes for the salads and 50 minutes for the pancakes, excuse me it's not the right way to do business. Pancakes was tasty but cold and with a little stuffing. If you're serving lettuces don't forget to wash them properly as to hear crunching sand in the mouth it's not funny. If you are serving dolma, you just need to know how it should taste not only wrap any piece of meat in the leaves and put any yogurt for the source. Add garlic at least. Chicken Curry was tasty but chicken was layed as only thick layer on the rice bowl. You should try harder to became good .

The waiters are really nice and friendly. Asian food available. I Didn't like the cheese cake.. Coffee was good. Wide options for non-vegeterians.
Sneha L — Google review
The place has a nice location and summer terrace. Food is okay, but nothing special. We ordered 4 different meals and they all were "okay", I can't say that any of if was really delicious. Avocado in salad was unstable at all. Hugely overpriced, can't recommend it for food. Beer and wine is nice.
Sergei H — Google review
Very well trained staff, super friendly, very interesting menu. I did a couple of Asian options and they were fantastic (although not spicy at all). Beer from a micro brewery; what else can one want? One of the best restaurants I've been to in Belarus!!
Stef S — Google review
I can't remember giving two stars to anything, but my experience with this place went beyond any expectations. The so-called pumpkin cream soup tasted good, but it was porrige rather than soup. Chef burger with turkey was the worst I ever tried -- the bun made of rubber and lava-hot filling inside. The filling was so slippery, that all just tried to slip away as soon as you touch it. Add to it half-baked potatoes and only one kind of beer available. The cheepest one.
Alexander Z — Google review
If you want to taste traditional Belarus food - you don't find it here, go somewhere else. Dishes are too fancy, but not very tasty. Prices are high as for Grodno, maybe because of location. Staff is polite, but need to wait them long time. Two times forgot to bring same drink. +1 star only for friendly cat :)
St A — Google review
Really nice and cozy place. Staff is very friendly and helpful, but they have awful chef. I was there twice this year and twice I was disappointed 😞. This time we went there to try all colored burgers, but waitress said that they have only white burger. Moreover burgers was served cold and with 3 thiny slice of grilled zucchini instead of cabbage stewed in wine and sauce. I'm personally think that it was not a fair substitute. If knew before that such exchange would take place I wouldn't pay for such a burger 22 zł. So I'm strongly recommended to avoid this place. Or going there only for a cup of tea. (Their lemonade is also not the best one.)

If you find yourself wandering through the heart of the city, make sure to stop by "Карчма," a charming eatery that offers an authentic taste of Belarusian cuisine. The highlight here is undoubtedly their delicious "Draniki," which you simply must try! While the local beer may not stand out, opting for vodka is highly recommended as it’s served just right.

Bistro
Bol'shoy Bufet is a popular spot, especially among young people and students. The place offers plenty of seating space and a relaxed atmosphere. You can either choose from the buffet or order from the menu, but it's important to prepay before dining. While the prices are affordable, some find the portion sizes a bit small for the cost. The menu mainly features meat-based dishes with limited options for vegetarians such as pizza, boiled green beans, grain, and potatoes.
Neat and clean place. Popular amongst youth. Plenty of organized sitting space. You can choose precooked items from the buffet table or order from the menu. Prepay before you sit to eat. A bit pricey for the portions of food you get. Most dishes are meat based or have eggs in them. Vegetarian options are limited to pizza, boiled green beans, boiled grain and potatoes. Parking available at public parking which is at a walking distance.

I wouldn't say it's cheap. I paid more than 20 rubli for 2nd dish with a bottle of beer. With no soup or dessert. Comparing to the near-same format buffet in the city I would prefer "Pit Stop" instead - more choice, cheaper, better plus parking and more space inside.

Kronon Park Hotel is an elegant property located in the center of the urban forest Pyski. The hotel offers plush accommodations, a cozy bar, and an upmarket restaurant where guests can enjoy meticulously prepared dishes. The hotel features a summer gallery and an indoor pool, providing opportunities for relaxation and leisure. Additionally, visitors can explore the nearby 17th-century old castle just a short distance away.
An absolutely wonderful experience I recommend to everyone visiting the city. Hotel is located just outside Grodno, in a wonderful forest, and it looks as one of the nicest Chateaus you would come across in Europe. The rooms match the appearance, and you still can see the wonderful surroundings through the windows. Service is to match the looks, really a lot of attention to details and - overall - one of the best stays we had in over 30 countries visited. Once again, totally recommend, you will not regret your time spent there.

A very stylish and nice place. I really enjoyed spacious and luxurious apartment with scenic view, and nice restaurant with very hospitable staff (to the point that cook was eager to make some appetizers that weren’t listed in the menu) It is located in the park, so the place is really quiet and nice. There is also a paved pedestrian road to stroll around for hours.

A charming place for lunch or dinner. The food here was very obviously conceived to be enjoyed and paid attention to. Nice interior design and pleasant music you can count on. I didn't particularly like the desserts, I must note. Their teramisu looks beautiful, but tastes like flavored ice cream rather than like the real mascarpone-based classic. Bottom line, definitely invite your most important business partner (or the romantic one) here. They will be impressed.
Vlad C — Google review
Great restaurant, wine and service. That's worth 5 stars. However - The hotel does not honor their own cancellation policy, so I had to pay for a room, that I was not able to use. When calling the hotel 2 days before arrival, speaking english, the woman on duty picked up the phone, did not respond, but hung up. Twice 🙄 Cancelled via Booking.com - see photo. Later I actually stayed at the hotel, from 27-28, in the hope, they would honor the 1 night deposit, they have taken earlier from my credit card (photo). No chance. Paid again. The amenities are quite spacious, which is comfortable. The style is a matter of taste. Bathroom could use an update and there was no walk in shower. Rooms have no black out curtains and there is a window in the ceiling, which cannot be covered either, filling the space with daylight from early morning. For me this means no sleep from sunrise. Which today was 5:35am. Minus 2 stars for the withdrawal of extra money and minus 1 star for not being able to sleep. Because of the very well assorted breakfast, Hotel is worth €65 pr night. They charged €117 on my dates. Would not stay again, but would visit the restaurant, if I ever have the chance.

The best hotel we went to in our vacation (end of July)😍! They offer some unique facilities that we haven’t seen in other hotels like free chauffeur services to the city center or restaurants, breakfast table preparation at a specific time with the food we chose, bicycle riding, welcoming gifts (teddy bears for children, cookies and fruits) in addition to daily snacks (truffles and cookies) 🚙🍳🚲🎁 What the kids like the most are the small sized slippers, shower robes and hangers) which makes them overall very considerate 👌🏼👌🏼👏🏼 At the end of our stay, they gave us goodbye cupcakes and water bottles and that’s very sweet of them🤍🤍

The 1st time I visited,I had cashew chicken rice and it was good ;had a generous amount of chicken .Presentation was not too bad. I found the pad thai noodles disappointing as it lacked enough flavour and was poorly presented. The dish lacked colour as well as stir fried vegetables. A bit more spice in the dishes would be nice. For dessert,I had chocolate brownie with ice cream. To be honest ,it was more of a slice of chocolate cake than brownie but the slice was generous . The cake was moist .The dessert had a decent presentation. Staff is courteous and service is quick.

In my opinion, Pizza Forno is a restaurant in Belarus that offers the finest pizza at an affordable price. Their seafood and vegetarian pizzas are particularly excellent, and I highly recommend trying them first. The restaurant also provides delivery service for a reasonable fee of approximately $2. With two floors and outdoor seating options, the establishment creates a cozy ambiance by placing candles on tables during evening hours.
To my humble opinion the restaurant serves the best pizza you can have in Belarus, for its price it’s fabulous. Seafood and vegetarian ones are the best in here, recommend to try them first. I don’t know why this place is so popular... they have 46 different pizza’s many of which have mad ingredients mixes. They have pizza with salami and tuna, with green pea and fries! It’s insane... small size is still huge and they’re really generous with ingredients but the pizza doesn’t taste good and it’s just impossible to finish.

Came here to try authentic Italian style pizza. That is how it was advertised and what we heard about it. Would have given 5 🌟 for service and overall experience however the pizza we ordered was very soggy and doughy. It felt like we were eating raw dough. Ingredients were great, loved the salad. The tortilla bread served with salad was nice and crispy. Pricey $$. More seating available on the second floor. Plenty parking available. Nice and clean toilets.

Wonderful place for to have a nice (and not too expensive) meal after walking outside with your family and friends. Average bill for one person will be like 20-30$.

I was here last night and it was an excellent restaurant. The waiter Alexander was professional and helpful. The food was very well presented and cooked. The restaurant looks amazing and world class. This is probably one of the nicest restaurants I have ever been to and I have been to many all over the world. This is a must visit as a tourist.

(Translated by Google) It’s a wonderful establishment, we’ve been visiting it for many years and every time we get a huge amount of emotions. An excellent atmosphere in which you immerse yourself headlong and completely stop thinking about various things, relaxing both your brain and body. The presentation of the dishes is at a high level, as is the service, but it is not limited to just one serving, the taste is also amazing, each dish is delicious in its own way, but as they say, it depends on the taste and color... if one person likes a particular position, then it is not a fact that Someone else will like her. The last visit caused a storm of emotions at our large table, everyone was happy and left full and with smiles on their faces. Definitely 10/10.

(Translated by Google) A very beautiful and pleasant place, there is a lot of interesting things, there is also a zoo where you can see different birds. There wasn’t too much time to look at everything in detail, but I really liked it, even in cloudy weather it’s very beautiful here! I recommend everyone to visit it!

$$$$expensive
Restaurant
The dining experience at Лаунж Кафе Барашка, a local restaurant offering Georgian cuisine in Moscow, exceeded expectations. The soup Lagun was particularly impressive, and the khinkali dumplings were also delicious. One diner enjoyed the odgakhuri dish and chashushuli. Although some dishes were slightly salty, they were well-cooked and enjoyable. The Turkish baklava for dessert was a delightful treat.
It was the best dinner so far I had in Gronodo. The grilled beef steak was so good and a must try. The environment is beautifully decorated and the interior was just a wow. The staff is friendly and very helpful.

Pleasant experience having a couple of cocktails at the bar. I stopped by there for some pre-dinner drinks. The place looks very nice inside. The bartender was polite and professional. Bc of (I assume) the western sanctions the alcohol choices were limited. I think I ended up having Absolute martinis. Can't comment on their prices as all's very affordable in Belarus. Wish I had a chance to try the food. Hopefully next time.

Ambiance was good, staff was helpful. But portions given by the restaurant was too small and expensive for that amount. When we left the restaurant, we were still hungry. I recommend the restaurant for drinking something only, not for eating.

My Georgian cuisine experience comes from Moscow and I did not have many expectations from this local restaurant. I was pleasantly surprised. We had great time there! We ordered soup Lagun which was amazing, of course khinkali were great as well. My friend ordered odgakhuri and she was pleased with it and I had chashushuli. Everything was yummy. Slightly salty for my taste but still very good cooked. For the desert we had Turkish baklava... hmmmm yum yum. I just wish they had more variety of Margaritas. I always prefer strawberry taste rather than lemon and they only have lemon. A question to ownwer: why if the phone number starts with +1 it doesn't connect to WiFi (belarusian phone connects with no problems)? No WiFi for Americans.... lol Service is great as well. Thanks for the evening. Will be back.

Waiter brought only drinks-menu, then after asking brought dishes menu with only half of pages. Is this a joke that I couldn't understand? So I had to order mushroom cream-soup and tomato juice. Soup was meh at best, salty as Dead Sea water. Juice was diluted and had watery taste. Cooking time was more than half an hour. Tl;dr - unacceptable.

(Translated by Google) The airport is near the village of Obukhovo. I don’t know how things are there now, but before this airport could not boast of a large flow. Even as a child, we went to the fence to look at the old AN-2 “corn trucks” that were parked there, forgetting about the sky. On my last visit to the nearby location, an unfinished hotel, there was only one small plane standing on the runway.
