Aluviharaya Rock Cave Temple

Buddhist temple
Nature & Parks
Nestled in the Matale District, Aluviharaya Rock Cave Temple is a remarkable historical Buddhist site that boasts an intriguing past. This ancient cave temple is believed to be where the Pali Canon was first transcribed, making it a significant landmark for those interested in Buddhist history. The temple's stunning rock formations and vibrant murals create a captivating atmosphere that draws visitors from all walks of life.
Aluvihara Temple, situated in Matale, Sri Lanka, is one of the most historically and spiritually significant Buddhist temples in the country. This sacred site holds a unique place in Buddhist history due to its role in preserving the teachings of the Buddha. It is most renowned for being the location where the Tripitaka and its commentaries (Atthakatha) were committed to writing on ola (palm) leaves for the first time in history. During the 1st century BCE, Sri Lanka faced a period of great unrest due to South Indian invasions and internal conflicts. King Walagamba, who ruled during this time, had to face constant threats to the country’s stability. With wars, famine, and political disturbances spreading across the island, there was a real danger that the oral tradition of preserving the Buddha’s teachings might disappear. Until then, the Dhamma — including the Vinaya Pitaka (rules of discipline), Sutta Pitaka (sermons), and Abhidhamma Pitaka (philosophical teachings) — had been passed down orally by generations of monks. Realizing the possibility of this sacred knowledge being lost, the Buddhist monastic community decided to write down the teachings to ensure their survival. Under the guidance of Ven. Mahānāma Thero, the Tripitaka and the Atthakatha were inscribed onto ola leaves at the Aluvihara rock cave complex. This monumental effort not only safeguarded the teachings of the Buddha but also marked one of the most significant moments in the history of Theravāda Buddhism. The Aluvihara temple complex is built among large rock formations, which give it a serene and secluded atmosphere, ideal for meditation and spiritual practices. The caves where the scriptures were written can still be visited today. These caves also feature ancient paintings, statues of the Buddha, and various depictions of Buddhist teachings and history. The temple’s surroundings, set amidst natural rocky landscapes and greenery, create an environment of peace and reverence. Today, Aluvihara remains an important pilgrimage site for Buddhists as well as a major historical attraction for visitors from around the world. It serves as a reminder of the resilience and dedication of the ancient monastic community, who ensured the preservation of Buddhism during a time of great adversity. The temple continues to be active, with resident monks conducting daily rituals, Bodhi Pujas, and other religious ceremonies that keep the traditions alive. Aluvihara Temple is not only a place of worship but also a monument to the intellectual and spiritual determination of the Buddhist monks of ancient Sri Lanka. It stands as a symbol of the island’s rich cultural heritage and its lasting contributions to the preservation and spread of Buddhist teachings

The place where the Tripitaka was first transcribed. The rock cave where this was done is conserved and displayed inside the temple premises. A museum, and a mountain top statue you can reach after a 2km walk through an ascending road are the other attractions here apart from the general temple components. There wasn't much of a crowd on the typical Saturday morning we visited and parking space was quite sufficient. However, the situation can be different on long weekends or poya days.
Asanka K — Google review
It is an ancient temple in Matale district . Nearly 2 km towards Dambulla from Matale town centre . It has rock caves turned into shrines. It's a place to worship and to study the Kandian era arts. A very important and highly respected temple by buddhists. Anyone visiting Matale , this is a must visit place.
Dhanushka W — Google review
Enjoyed my visit during off season and rainy day. There is space to explore: caves with statues and paintings, stupa on top of the rock, museum and nice views. Calm atmosphere and energy. *foreigners have to buy entrance ticket for 500 lkr
Dmitri A — Google review
Aluwihare Rock Temple, located near Matale, is a historic and sacred Buddhist site believed to date back to the reign of King Devanampiyatissa. Nestled among picturesque rock formations, it is renowned as the place where the Buddhist scriptures, the Tripitaka, were first written down in Sri Lanka on ola leaves. The temple’s peaceful surroundings, ancient murals, and caves carved into the rock create a serene atmosphere for visitors seeking spiritual reflection and a glimpse into the island’s deep cultural heritage.
Timal S — Google review
The temple holds immense cultural and religious value—it’s where the Tripitaka was first transcribed onto palm leaves in Sri Lanka, making it a foundational site in Buddhist history.
Chathux C — Google review
Birthplace of the Written Tripitaka :- Its most famous distinction is being the place where the Pāli Canon (Tripitaka), the sacred scriptures of Theravada Buddhism, was first committed to writing on ola (palm) leaves. This monumental task was undertaken by 500 scholarly monks during the 1st century BC, under the reign of King Walagamba, due to fears that the oral tradition of the doctrines might be lost amidst famine and invasions. This act was crucial for the preservation and dissemination of Buddhist teachings.

Sri Muthumari Amman Kovil

Temporarily Closed
Hindu temple
Sights & Landmarks
Sri Muththumari Amman Kovil, located in Matale, is a Hindu temple that holds historical significance. It adds beauty to the district alongside other notable places like Sigiriya and Dambulla Cave Temple. The temple is known for its annual chariot festival held in February or March, where five ornate chariots carry statues of Hindu deities around the city.
Amazing Hindu temple. The intricacies of the deities were so enthralling and made it easy to get immersed in the whole building. We arrived during a festive time so were unable to enter the actual inside of the temple but the outside easily made up for that. Price was 250 slr which you paid at the foreigner window. Locals pay a lot less. No shoes inside as per all temple protocol and wear appropriate clothing. The colours are also another highlight with the Hindu faith. Do not miss this temple if you are in the area.
Jacqueline L — Google review
The Sri Muthumariamman Temple in Matale is one of Sri Lanka's most prominent Hindu temples, revered for its spiritual significance and stunning Dravidian architecture. Dedicated to Goddess Mariamman, the deity of rain and fertility, the temple plays a central role in the religious life of the region's Tamil Hindu community. Its highlight is the annual Theru Festival, held during February or March, where elaborately decorated chariots carry sacred statues of deities in a grand procession through the streets. This vibrant celebration draws thousands of devotees and tourists, symbolizing devotion, cultural pride, and communal unity, while showcasing the temple’s role as both a spiritual sanctuary and cultural landmark.
Shaluka K — Google review
"This is a sacred site revered by Hindu devotees. Its specialty lies in hosting the largest 'Theru' (chariot) festival in Sri Lanka, which is usually held in March and centered around the city of Matale."
SONGS C — Google review
A very calm and peaceful place to visit. Every time I go there, I feel relaxed and my mind becomes quiet. The building is beautiful with nice designs that make you feel calm just by looking around. The prayers and chants you hear there are soft and soothing, which helps you feel peaceful inside. Even though I’m not Tamil, I really loved visiting this place. It made me feel connected in a way I didn’t expect. The calm atmosphere is perfect if you want to take a break from a busy day and just relax your mind. I think anyone can enjoy the peaceful feeling here, no matter who they are.
Chamath S — Google review
Interesting place, but currently under renovation. You can still visit (500 Rps for foreigners), but the outer part ist partly hidden. Inside you can see how they are currently painting everything fresh.
Patrick S — Google review
Visiting the Sri Muthumari Amman Kovil in Sri Lanka was a deeply enriching experience. This vibrant Hindu temple, dedicated to the goddess Muthumari Amman, stands as a beacon of devotion and architectural splendor. The intricate carvings, colorful statues, and detailed artwork showcase the rich cultural heritage of the Tamil community. The atmosphere is filled with the soothing sounds of traditional music and the fragrant scent of incense, creating a serene and spiritual ambiance. Attending the daily rituals and festivals, especially the grand annual chariot procession, offers a profound glimpse into the devotion and traditions that have been preserved for generations. A visit to this temple is not just a spiritual journey but also a cultural immersion that leaves a lasting impression.
Eshan A — Google review
This vibrant and colorful Hindu temple is easy to spot along the main road in Matale town. Visitors can walk around the grounds, though it’s unclear if entry inside is allowed. From the southern side, you can catch a glimpse of the interior through the gated entrance. The northern tower is especially impressive, adorned with intricate carvings of Hindu deities—said to number over a thousand. Definitely worth a stop if you’re passing through!
Tharindu R — Google review
Unfortunately the temple is under construction until the end of November. We didn’t know that so when we arrived we were very disappointed, since it looks absolutely beautiful in the pictures.

Nalanda Gedige

Historical landmark
Sights & Landmarks
Nalanda Gedige is a remarkable Hindu Dravidian style temple dating back to the 8th-10th century, located at the heart of Sri Lanka. It is considered a must-see destination due to its historical and cultural significance. The site's caretaker offers insights into its rich history. Maintained by Sri Lanka's Department of Archaeology, the site is kept in excellent condition with a small museum providing more information on the temple.
A hidden historical treasure! Nalanda Gedige is a unique ancient temple combining Hindu and Buddhist styles. The peaceful surroundings and detailed stone carvings make it a beautiful and serene stop. Well worth a short visit if you're nearby!
Harsh P — Google review
Very beautiful place with important history combining Theravada Buddhism, Hinduism and Mahayana Buddhism. It’s one temple with a stupa and small museum. The security guard was very helpful in showing the place. No need to buy tickets here. Little tourists come here. Nearby there is a lake. I could walk in the village, people there are friendly. I just would prefer not to come on rainy day because one need to walk barefoot in the mud to see the temple and there is no way how to clean the feet there after that.
Petra K — Google review
A peaceful and unique historic site! Nalanda Gedige is a hidden gem blending Hindu and Buddhist architecture, believed to be the center point of Sri Lanka. The word “Gedige” means a structure built entirely with interlocking stone blocks—no mortar used. However this structure has been entirely shifted to a higher ground when the near by tank was constructing. The site is well maintained, with enough parking and no entry ticket required. The road is in good condition and accessible by any car. A quiet, scenic spot perfect for a short cultural visit. Highly recommended for a nice short visit!
Vishwanath M — Google review
Check this out, if you are interested in this 'medieval' Buddhist temple. It just a minute away from the main road and definitely worth a quick stop-by. The structure has only lost little of its original beauty over the centuries and comes with the meditation tree and a Stupa. You will meet a guide there, who can answer your questions. Make sure to hand him some tip before goodbye. 😉
Bastian D — Google review
Built around the 6th century AD, this temple complex is in accordance with the Pallava culture of India. There is evidence that the temple complex has been nourished by the influence of Mahayana Buddhism and Tamil culture. Located in a very beautiful environment, this temple was submerged in the water of the Bowathenna reservoir and was brought to its present location by the current flow. There is also a belief that this place is the center of Sri Lanka. This place is a very valuable archaeological site. The Department of Archaeology maintains a museum at this place and it is a place with parking facilities. There is no entry fee.
Dilum P — Google review
This place located at 1.5 km A9 Main road. Ancient buddhist temple which is consist of pallawa architecture. The building was constructed between the 8th and 10th AD centuries. This is fully Stoned building . This original location considered as geographical centre of Sri Lanka. This place surrounds Bowathenne reservoir.
Nipuna S — Google review
Nalanda Gedige is a hidden gem — ancient, mysterious and beautifully preserved. The mix of Dravidian / Pallava architecture with Buddhist aesthetics makes it unlike anything else I’ve seen in Sri Lanka. Walking through the stone mandapa, seeing the carvings, the moonstone and the statue of Kuvera — every detail speaks of craftsmanship. It’s also fascinating that the whole temple was relocated when the reservoir threatened it, yet it still retains its aura. Surroundings are peaceful, perfect for reflection, and the journey there through rural countryside adds to the charm. Strongly recommend for anyone who loves history, architecture or just looking for somewhere serene to visit.
Master360 S — Google review
Interesting historic site, located at the center point of Sri Lanka. For some unknown reason, local tour guides bqrely seem to take tourists here, although it's right on the way between Kandy and Dambulla. Free entrance, well worth the stop.

Pitawala Pathana, Riverston

Ecological park
Nature & Parks
Nature & Wildlife Areas
Pitawala Pathana, Riverston is an ecological park surrounded by mountains and open grasslands. It offers nature trails that lead to waterfalls and provide views of the Knuckles Range. The entrance fee is affordable at Rs 30 per person, but visitors may encounter issues with the road leading to the park and a lack of food, hotels, or soft drinks (although washrooms are available). Drinking wine or beer is not allowed on site. For nature enthusiasts, walking approximately 2.
Pitawala Pathana is truly a hidden gem in Sri Lanka’s central highlands! The vast grass plains, surrounded by misty mountains, offer an incredible panoramic view and a peaceful atmosphere that’s hard to find elsewhere. The short walk to the “Mini World’s End” cliff is absolutely worth it—breathtaking views and a thrilling drop that’s safe if you stay on the path. The air is fresh, the landscape is untouched, and it’s a great spot for nature lovers, hikers, or anyone wanting to escape the hustle. Just make sure to go early in the morning or late afternoon for the best views with less fog. A must-visit if you’re in the Riverston area!

The walk across the vast grassland is peaceful and scenic, and the view from "Mini World's End" is simply stunning. It’s an easy hike, suitable for all ages, and the fresh mountain air makes it even more enjoyable. The surrounding nature is unspoiled and serene — perfect for a quiet escape from city life. We went early in the morning and had the entire place to ourselves. Highly recommended for nature lovers and anyone visiting the Riverston area.

It was warm, misty and enchanting atmosphere around 3pm during December. We were blessed enough to see the critically endangered marbled rock frog, Nannophrys marmorata in the stream running opposite to the auditorium. A must visit!
Sushmitha G — Google review
Pitawala Pathana – Mini World’s End ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I recently hiked the short 0.75 km trail at Pitawala Pathana an easy, family-friendly route through lush grasslands in the Knuckles range. It leads to the dramatic cliff known as Mini World’s End, offering jaw-dropping panoramic views over deep valleys and misty peaks What I loved: Velvet-green grass plains that feel otherworldly A safe but thrilling cliff edge perfect for photos Rich biodiversity look out for rare frogs and unique grasses 🕗 Tip: Visit early morning or late afternoon to avoid fog and catch magical light. Facilities are basic, bring water and snacks. A must-visit for nature enthusiasts exploring Riverston!
Sumith H — Google review
Pitawala Pathana, nestled near Riverston in Sri Lanka’s central Knuckles Mountain Range, is a stunning 10‑hectare montane grassland plateau that offers unmatched ecological and scenic appeal. The terrain is a gently sloping rock slab capped by just a few centimeters of nutrient-poor soil, allowing only a short turf of about 10 cm in height. This gives the plain a velvety, almost surreal appearance underfoot . Located along the Rattota–Illukkumbura mountain road in Matale District, the site serves as the northern gateway to the Knuckles Conservation Forest, a UNESCO-designated World Heritage area . Ecologically unique, Pitawala Pathana supports endemic flora like the “Patan Ala” grass and fauna such as the frog species Dumbara Galpara Mediya—species found nowhere else in Sri Lanka . A well-marked nature trail of roughly 750–900 m leads from the trailhead to the dramatic precipice known as “Mini World’s End” or “Punchi Lokanthaya.” At the cliff edge, hikers are rewarded with panoramic views of the Knuckles mountain peaks and lush valleys below. Two prominent rock outcrops provide ideal vantage points—photographers love to capture friends posing on one while shooting from the other . Visitors describe Pitawala Pathana as a peaceful escape: “vast grass plains, surrounded by misty mountains … a peaceful atmosphere,” and “an easy hike … the view … simply stunning” . The best visiting seasons are February to May and July to September, when skies are clearer and landscape views are most visible . Minimal facilities exist—a ticket office, simple restrooms, and a forest entrance fee are required. Modest trekking gear, careful footing near cliff edges, and responsible “Leave No Trace” conduct are essential to preserving this delicate ecosystem .
Saranga K — Google review
Pitawala Pathana is a unique destination in Riverston. The wide-open grasslands, framed by misty mountains, feel like a scene from a movie. The walk to the Mini World's End is short and easy, but the views from the edge are breathtaking; you can see deep into the valley below. The cool breeze, natural beauty, and peaceful environment make this a must-visit spot for nature lovers and photographers. Don’t miss it if you're exploring the Riverston area.
Nalinda F — Google review

Sera Ella Water Fall

Nature & Parks
Waterfalls
To reach the Sera Ella Waterfall from Matale, one must drive past Riverston for approximately 45 minutes. Although the road is generally in good condition, the last 8 kilometers are currently undergoing construction. Visitors can park their vehicles and then walk for about 5 minutes to reach the base of the waterfall. From there, they have access to a small rock cave that offers a unique vantage point to view the waterfall.
Sera Ella Waterfall is one of the most beautiful and unique waterfalls in Sri Lanka. The twin streams of water cascade down the rock face, creating a mesmerizing sight. What makes it even more special is the small cave behind the waterfall; you can actually go inside and view the falls from behind the curtain of water. The walk to the waterfall is easy and scenic, with lush greenery and fresh air all around. It’s a great place to relax, take photos, and enjoy nature sounds. It's a must-visit for anyone exploring the Matale area.
Nalinda F — Google review
This waterfall offers a calm and refreshing experience with a naturally beautiful setting. While it may not have a particularly unique or dramatic view compared to other famous waterfalls, its peaceful surroundings and soothing sound of flowing water make it a pleasant stop for nature lovers. It’s a nice spot to relax, take some photos, and enjoy a bit of quiet time in nature. Great for a short visit—but don’t expect a breathtaking or one-of-a-kind scene.
Arunalu H — Google review
Its very beautiful waterfall with ultimate natural view.. I visited there in September and the weather is too dry.. there is very small water flow there. Recommend not traveling in those dry seasons if you want really good views of the waterfall.
Kanchana B — Google review
It is a beautiful environment to walk inside the waterfall. You have to travel by vehicle on a rough and steep road. You have to buy a ticket of Rs. 75 for local adults. Try to visit early as there are wild elephants.
Thidesa T — Google review
Visited during the dry season — beautiful rock formations, but the water flow was minimal. Still worth the stop for the scenery and peaceful surroundings, but probably more impressive after the rains.
Sanjeewa J — Google review
It's a beautiful place just after the rains. If it a low rainfall season, there will not much water. But the place is worth visiting on any condition because it is a green world you will feel like you’re in a heaven. You can capture scenic pictures and walk to the back of the falls too. April to September will be with a lower water and otherwise it will be full of water. (November to February will be the maximum) I visited to this fall several times and experienced the scenery without full of water and low water level.
Miuranga D — Google review

Bambarakiri Ella

Nature & Parks
Waterfalls
Bambarakiri Ella is a stunning waterfall situated in Mathale, offering a magnificent spectacle. With a height of approximately 10 meters, visitors can enjoy an exhilarating experience by crossing the Suspension bridge. It is advised against swimming in the rock pool at the base of the waterfall due to its potential dangers during certain seasons. Locals have reported sudden vortexes that have led to unfortunate fatalities, as indicated by warning boards displaying the number of deaths.
We visited Bambarakiriella Falls on 15.02.2025. We were able to reach very close to the falls by bike, but unfortunately, the bridge to cross the waterfall was closed. Despite that, we were still able to get close to the falls and enjoy the stunning natural beauty of the area. The sight was breathtaking, and the surroundings were peaceful, making it a great spot to appreciate nature. Definitely worth a visit if you’re in the area!
Dilhan P — Google review
A small waterfall in Matale, renowned for its breathtaking scenic beauty. I've visited a couple of times with friends there. Once in mid-January, when the water levels were low. Quite enjoyed that visit. The second visit was in October 2023 during the rainy season where we could see the full flow of the waterfall and the areas adjacent to the waterfall were almost flooded. It was great for taking photos but couldn't do anything else. There's a hanging bridge that connects two ends of the valley adjacent to the waterfall. It's got repaired and in better condition than a few years ago.
Dineshsanth — Google review
Beautiful waterfall with a stunning view! The surroundings are very scenic and peaceful. Unfortunately, the bridge was closed during our visit, and there was a barrier, so we couldn’t get close enough to touch the water. Still, it’s definitely worth visiting for the natural beauty and relaxing atmosphere.
Udara G — Google review
This is a small waterfall compared to others in the country. However, considering the short walking distance to reach the falls, it is worth a visit. The area close to the falls is barricaded not letting people to reach the pool area as it is dangerous which means you can not bathe here. Parking is available only roadside as a proper parking area has not been provided. Parking and crowd can definitely be a problem during long weekends.
Asanka K — Google review
This is a very beautiful waterfall located on the way to Riverston, just about 100 meters from the main road. It’s quite large and scenic. Bathing is not recommended as the water is deep. We visited on a weekday and it was peaceful with hardly any crowds. The hanging bridge was damaged at the time, so it's best to avoid it. Interestingly, you can try natural fish therapy here—but be cautious, as the rocks can be slippery and it's easy to fall into the water.

The Riverston Radio Tower trekking path in Matale offers a scenic and refreshing hike through the misty Knuckles Mountain Range. The trail, starting near the Riverston viewpoint, is about 1.5 km long and leads to the towering communication structure at the peak. Along the way, trekkers are treated to cool winds, panoramic mountain views, and lush greenery on both sides. The path is relatively easy to moderate, making it suitable for most visitors, and the breathtaking vistas from the top make the short climb well worth the effort.
Timal S — Google review
One of the main highlights is the Riverston Tower viewpoint, offering panoramic views of the lush green valleys and mountains of the Dumbara region. A little further ahead lies Mini World’s End, a dramatic cliff with a drop of over 300 meters. From here, visitors can enjoy stunning vistas of the Thelagamu Oya Valley and the surrounding villages — a photographer’s dream come true. Just a short distance from Riverston lies Pitawala Pathana, a vast grassland plain spread across rolling hills. It’s famous for the Mini World’s End cliff edge, where you can stand on a natural rock platform and gaze over miles of green wilderness. The grassland’s unique ecosystem supports rare plants and insects found only in this region. Riverston is a paradise for hikers and eco-travelers. The trails here pass through dense forests, tea estates, mountain streams, and open plains, each revealing a different face of Sri Lanka’s highlands. The hikes are moderate in difficulty, making them suitable for both beginners and experienced trekkers. Being part of the Knuckles Conservation Forest, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Riverston is home to a rich variety of biodiversity. You can spot endemic birds, reptiles, amphibians, and colorful butterflies. The plant life includes ferns, orchids, and medicinal herbs found only in this region. Unlike more commercial tourist spots, Riverston remains peaceful and unspoiled. It’s ideal for travelers who want to escape city noise and connect with nature. Eco-lodges, small guesthouses, and nature camps in the area offer simple yet comfortable stays, allowing visitors to truly experience the tranquil charm of the mountains.

Amazing place. Nice View. I recommend don't go there at public holiday or weekend. If you go there these days You can feel like a local market place 🥴
Adeesha E — Google review
One of Very Famous view points in Sri Lanka. Route is very natural scenic and you have to walk around 30 minutes to reach the top. Very crowded in holidays.
Kanchana B — Google review
Riverston is one of the most underrated places in Sri Lanka. The views are stunning—mountains, clouds rolling over the peaks, and a peaceful atmosphere that makes you forget everything. The Riverston Tower hike is challenging but totally worth it, and the breeze at the top is magical. Also loved the Mini World's End view point and the natural beauty all around. A must-visit for nature lovers and adventure seekers!!!

Hunasgeriya waterfall

Nature & Parks
Waterfalls
The Hunnasgiriya Waterfall, also known as the Hunas Falls Waterfall, is a stunning natural attraction. However, it's important to note that the location provided by Google Maps may be incorrect. To reach the waterfall, head towards the entry point where you can purchase tickets at the ticketing counter. From there, you can walk to the base of the waterfall and even swim in a small tank that is about 4.5 feet deep.
A very nice place a waterfall, and well maintained by the cooperative community. There is a separate area for a safe bath and enjoy. The area looks clean from the polythene and plastic with a lovely environment.

Nice place to have a good time with family.. we may experience the water fall directly with 0 distance. And they have natural pool also very nice bt very much disappointed by their not maintenance. Other than that it may have a great experience..

Hunas Falls, situated near Elkaduwa in the Matale District, is a 48-meter-high artificial waterfall nestled within the serene gardens of the Hunas Falls Hotel. Visitors can enjoy a peaceful walk through well-maintained paths leading to the waterfall, where the surrounding landscape offers a tranquil escape. While the area provides a picturesque setting ideal for relaxation and photography, swimming is not recommended due to safety considerations. And ticket price is around 150// and also good for bathing here and safe pool located here. Waterfall view and. scenery is so attractive and waterfall come from tank belongs to hunnas falls hotel near by..Must visit place and you can easily come Ktugasthota, Wattegama , Elkaduwa and hunnas falls ,After that you can visit Sembuwatta lake also would you like 👍✋🤟

A hidden gem in the hills, Hunasgeriya Waterfall is stunning. It is surrounded by lush greenery and fresh mountain air. The peaceful atmosphere and the clear water create a perfect place to relax and enjoy nature. Since it’s less crowded, you can take in the beauty without distractions. I highly recommend it for anyone visiting the area.
Nalinda F — Google review
One of the most peaceful spots I've visited! This waterfall isn’t just for admiring from afar — you can actually walk through the waterfall with the bridge in the waterfall upper section. The sound of the water, the cool breeze, and the view from the middle of the waterfall make it an unforgettable experience. Perfect for a refreshing stop. There are plenty of parking spaces at the sides of hunnas falls ticket counter and tickets were available for Rs: 150 pp.

A most beautiful and better place to visit with your family and friends. You can feel a nice road trip all the time until you reach the location. Easy access near the waterfall and a pool is there to have a cold bath. A safe place for children to play and enjoy nature with a healing sound of falling water.

National Spice Garden of Sri Lanka

Arboretum
Nature & Parks
The National Spice Garden of Sri Lanka, located just 25 kilometers from Kandy, offers a fascinating insight into the world of Sri Lankan spices. Visitors can explore various types of spices and learn about their cultivation and processing. The garden also features a training unit where visitors can purchase spices like nutmeg, pepper vines, clove, cinnamon, and cardamom. Unlike commercial spice gardens, the National Spice Garden provides a tailored experience based on visitors' preferences.
What an amazing experience! Our lovely guide Renu showed us all the spices and explained how they grow, what they can be used for and what health benefits they have. It was so informative and engaging! We loved the tour and also got some spices from the shop, which was very clean and well-maintained. The tour was free, but we gave a small donation, which we were happy to do given such an incredible experience!
Mariia L — Google review
A peaceful and aromatic getaway! The National Spice Garden offers a fascinating insight into Sri Lanka’s world of spices. The garden is well-organized, clean, and full of valuable information on herbs and spices used in cooking and traditional medicine. The staff were knowledgeable and friendly, explaining the benefits and uses of each plant clearly. One of the best parts was the opportunity to buy high-quality, freshly sourced spices at very reasonable prices – much cheaper than what you usually find in other spice gardens
Hasitha S — Google review
Wow, never imagined it being this good. Very friendly and open guide. Yes, everything is free. There are even signs that they don't accept donations. 1.5h tour. Well speaking and clear English, the guide has lots of knowledge, is experienced, so lots of questions in your head will be answered. She teaches you the interesting and not boring stuff. You can freely walk around the garden before and afterwards. No booking whatsoever. If you're lucky, others will join the tour at the beginning. On the other side of the road, you can buy some teas, spices like chili, cinnamon, and more for really good prices. Though the store could have more products and variety. So yes, it's extremely worth it.
Bo — Google review
We turned up unannounced having got a taxi from Kandy. We were offered a tour as soon as we arrived in the shop which we happily agreed to. The lady who took us around the spice garden was incredibly knowledgeable and made the tour super interesting (just for myself and my husband). I am a big fan of using spices, so it was particularly interesting for me to see the native plants and learn more about the properties of each different spice. The tour was completely free and signs made it clear that tipping was not required. We finished off in the shop to buy a variety of spices to take back home. Well worth the visit.
Mary O — Google review
This is a very nice and well-kept spice garden/park. No entrance fee and free guided tour!👌 We had a really great guide who showed us all possible spices and how they are harvested and prepared. The tour lasted 1.5 hours and was very interesting and educational. Highly recommended!
Mats L — Google review
This place is the legitimate national spice garden where they are trying different methods. Very knowledgeable guide. No money accepted unless you want to buy something. And NO pressure to buy. The tour had just started when we got there so they just added people to it as they arrived. Closed on the weekend.
J T — Google review
I had a lovely time exploring the area with Kawitha, our wonderful local guide. She was so kind and patient, answering all our questions and even finding time to chat with us. It was so interesting to talk with someone who knows so much about spices!
Jakub J — Google review
Very interesting place where you can learn a lot about different spices, how they grow and even taste some of them directly from a tree! Lady that was walking us around was very knowledgeable! Come here rather then visiting those fake places made for tourists!

Ranweli Restaurant

Restaurant
Ranweli Restaurant offers excellent cuisine and beverages. It is a recommended stopover when traveling from Sigiriya to Nuwara Eliya. The Sri Lankan Omelette and Chicken Sandwich are both delectable dishes. Additionally, their fresh watermelon juice is delightful and invigorating. Moreover, the restaurant features a spice garden for exploration. Although we visited during lunch service, the servers kindly served us tea which tasted good!
Good food and a great ambience. You can have decent food anytime and of course, Beer too.

Very taste local Sri Lanka food!
Cashflow L — Google review
We took the buffet which was very tasty with lots of vegetarian options. The make kutto on the spot which was very tasty. Cake and fruits for desert. They charge separately on the drinks. Good cold beer. The only downside was the too many flies (they close the leads in the buffet but when you sit down it bothersome). Also careful in the toilet, the doors are small and not for tall people :)

Great staff, super friendly hosts, and amazing food suitable for families with little kids. The food is made specifically for tourists. They have spicy dishes and also a huge variety of non-spicy food. My kids ate and enjoyed the food. Restaurant is clean and so are the toilets. All in all a great experience.

Apey Bojun Luxury Inn Pvt Ltd අපේ බොජුන්

Restaurant
Banquet hall
Apey Bojun Luxury Inn is a cozy and pleasant dining establishment located near Palapathwala in Matale Dambulla road. They offer both breakfast and lunch buffets, with the breakfast spread offering a wide variety of choices such as parota and milk rice. The options available are extensive and of high quality. While the lunch buffet may not be as luxurious, the staff is friendly and accommodating.
Apey Bojun Luxury Inn is an absolute treat! The food is super tasty with big, satisfying portions that hit the spot every time. Staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming — you really feel taken care of. The place is clean and has a calm, peaceful vibe… unless it gets crowded (which just means it’s popular!). Perfect spot for a chill, hearty meal. Highly recommend!

Went for breakfast buffet. Delicious Sri Lankan food. Good variety of buffet. *Bad thing is that they are watching & counting on the meat/fish/egg items we are taking and putting on the bill which is not suitable for a buffet arrangement. Either they should put a price per person or serve the protein items to the table according to what the customer order.
Jeram B — Google review
Ape Bojun Restaurant in Thotagamuwa is a great stop to enjoy your meals while traveling along the Kandy–Jaffna Highway. They offer a buffet with a good variety of options. When we visited, the buffet started with tomato soup served with buns, followed by a wide spread of Sri Lankan curries. There were also noodles and macaroni to add some variety. In addition, you can find cheese and sweet options; however, cakes such as cheesecake and other dessert cakes are not included in the buffet price. The food was okay overall, and the spread makes it worth the stop. For anyone passing by and looking for a decent buffet with both local flavors and a few extras, I can recommend this place.

Sangraha Restaurant, located on the A9 road between Matale and Jaffna, is a delightful spot to take a break while traveling. The ambiance of this place is serene and picturesque, with an abundance of spice trees surrounding it. The restaurant offers clean and well-maintained facilities, including toilets that are kept exceptionally clean. If you're looking for accommodation, Sangraha Restaurant has got you covered.
Just had breakfast, did not have time to see the garden. Opul was very lovely and a great host and they make their own bread which is soooo fluffy and fresh!!! 900 rupees buffet breakfast with tea/coffee 🙏

Good place to have a quick bite with a Sri Lankan buffet for a reasonable price when you travel through Kandy - Dambulla main road towards Kandy. Ample space for parking even for several larger busses. Little downside to the service due to the lack of supplement in drinking water. This is not an area where it's lacking drinkable fresh water sources however they tend not to provide water as many restaurant in the area always offer. However, overall the food quality is great and you can have one meat option as well for the buffet serving.

Hiranya M — Google review
The place is on the left side of the road between Dambulla to Kandy. The place is small and there are lots of flies/small insects. There is an ala carte or buffet menu. All prices are listed in USD. The taste of the food tends to be plain and lacking in spices. The service is actually very friendly. However, despite the friendliness, it turned out that when paying, the price did not match the price list shown. It's best to be more careful and determine first how much we have to pay before ordering food here.

Overall, if you're in the mood for a satisfying burger, this fast food shop is definitely worth a visit.

As of now, the prices for every item from your restaurant on Uber Eats have increased by over 200rs. Other local restaurants have maintained their original prices online; your establishment is the only one to raise them this significantly. Matale is not a market that will sustain such high prices for takeaway food. Imagine the sales your restaurant could achieve if you simply kept your original prices. It's clear that this is a decision made by your restaurant, especially since every other store has maintained its original online pricing.
Salman T — Google review
Ordered broasted chicken for the whole family today. Price was almost equivalent to KFC prices. Broasted chicken pieces were prepared using some non flavored plain flour which covered the chicken with extremely thick multiple layers. Couldn’t find the actual chicken at all. Even the smaller chicken area inside was overcooked and tasted so bland. So disappointed. Total waste of money. Packing was done using some cheap brown bags, even our local tasty shop gives in premium quality package. They were even saving in ketchup packets and sent loose ketchup in small cheap plastic bags. We didn’t even touch those packs. Not again Burger chief 🙏🙏 complete disaster.

Always preferred the kottu here. But experienced the worst today. Added extra salt in acceptable coz mistakes happen. But not accepting the fault and treating the customers cheaply is extremely a worse behaviour expected from a restaurant. Wasted money into the dustbin. Disgusting behaviour during the complaint.

One of the best restaurants in Matale with varieties of dishes to choose from. Prices are a bit high comparatively however thumbs up for the quality & the tasty of the meals. This restaurant has been a go-to whenever I'm in Matale. In terms of improvements, I think they should maybe take some steps to improve the food quality. Most of it tastes great but I've noticed inconsistencies. Almost all beverages here tend to be too sweet even when you ask for a low sugar option. An amazing lunch thank you! We stopped in for lunch on our way to Kandy and we received incredible hospitality. Lunch was made with produce all organic from their garden and very delicious. More than an accomodation, it is a place of experience. We met the passionate owner and beautiful mind, trying to deliver great service and teach us about spices and medicinal plants without trying to sell us anything. We asked to help with cooking, and she immediately accepted and explained clearly about every ingredients and cooking techniques, it was a fabulous moment. Food was great for dinner and again for breakfast. As we stroll in their garden, we get to see many kinds of beautiful birds, which can feed on fruits specifically grown for them rather than their own profit. The room itself was dark and rustic, and shower room not convenient, so really recommend this place for the experience and just not paying too much attention to the room itself

We stumbled upon this place on our way through to Kandy. Despite having finished lunch service, they offered to make us a fresh rice and curry. Whilst waiting we were shown around their beautiful spice garden and looked at the spices / fresh veggies they would use for the food. Knox Café & Restaurant offers a delightful dining experience with its cozy and modern ambiance. The menu features a variety of dishes, including Chinese and European cuisine as well as seafood options. The food is delicious, prepared with fresh ingredients and bursting with flavors. The staff is friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable about the menu, providing excellent recommendations. The interior is beautifully designed, creating a calm and inviting atmosphere for an enjoyable meal.
This review is posted after the second visit to this Cafe! There's nothing to say... Totally satisfied with everything.. I was honored to enjoy a meal at this beautiful place This cafe is located in the middle of the Matale city area, in a crowded environment. But inside the cafe, the environment is so calm & quiet. They have tried hard to provide the customer with a 5 star dining vibe & they have succeeded. The lighting inside the cafe is so relaxing and the temperature is ambient. You can dig into your meal peacefully. The service is excellent. The waiters are really helpful, friendly, polite & caring. The meals were served in a pleasant manner. The food was delicious & mouth watering. The hot battered mushroom dish was excellent. The mushrooms were deep fried & crispy. The noodle dish & veg rice dish were really tasty. The dolphin rice was more than enough for a person & it was filled with plenty of sausage, baby corn, prawns & etc. It was really an excellent dish. The lasagna was tried for the first time and it was quite good. Actually there was no proper place to have a relaxing meal in the town area. It was a good effort to establish a cafe like this. Finally, Knox Cafe & Restaurant could be recommended as a better & a proper place to have a delicious meal for a reasonable price in a quite environment. Good luck with your business..

The restaurant is really beautiful and the food was delicious. But it took about 45 minutes for my chicken set menu rice to arrive, and since I was starving it felt very long. I also noticed a couple of sandy bits in the food, which was a bit disappointing. Overall, it’s a nice place with tasty food, but the service speed and food quality could be improved.

Indian Heaven Restaurant

Indian restaurant
The food was absolutely delicious, freshly prepared, and full of flavor. The service was friendly, attentive, and welcoming. The atmosphere was clean, comfortable, and perfect for dining. Overall, a wonderful experience – I would highly recommend this restaurant and will definitely be coming back again.

Had dinner here with friends around 10 pm and loved it! Sharad gave us very friendly service. Tried the Chicken Kottu, Tandoori Chicken Biriyani, and Szechwan Fried Rice – all were super tasty. Calm vibe, nice ambiance, and a wide Indian menu. Great spot in Matale!

A must try. 😍 The food is really delicious. 🤤😋 It had a clean, cozy vibe 😇 I personally would have liked it if the food was more spicy 😶. The staff is also very friendly and helpful 😍. I really like the blue heaven mojito🍹 & Garlic naan with butter chicken 🤤😋 You should definitely try this place, it has the best Indian food in Matale.♥️

"We had a wonderful dining experience here. The food was absolutely delicious and full of flavor, with a great balance of real indian spices. Thanks to Naat indian chefs. The presentation of the dishes was excellent, and the atmosphere was very nice. The staff specially "sharad" incredibly helpful and attentive throughout our visit. I think little more AC is comfortable and for Mojito fresh mint leaves garnish with a mint sprig and lime wedge is better. Anyway We felt it was great value for money and truly enjoyed our meal.😋😋😋 " Highly recommended"

We recently visited an Indian restaurant, and the food was absolutely amazing! We truly appreciate the chef for preparing such delicious dishes the soup and the main course were especially outstanding. The captain ahamed provided wonderful service and the entire team made sure everything was perfect. We really enjoyed our dinner night and had a great experience overall!

The food, ambience and the service was top notch. You should try their authentic North Indian curries beaming with flavour, especially the butter chicken masala with cheese and garlic naan. It was mouth watering.

We visited Indian Heaven Restaurant, Matale four days ago, and it was a wonderful experience! My sister, father, and I ordered Butter Naan with Butter Chicken, a Mutton Biriyani for my dad, and tried their new Kiwi Mojito. The food was absolutely amazing — full of authentic flavors that we haven’t found in Sri Lanka before. The Mutton Biriyani was top notch and worth the price. Butter Naan/Garlic Naan with Butter Chicken equally impressive. Having all this with a sip of mojito, no words to say. Bravo! Having lived in Dubai for many years, we’ve tried countless Indian restaurants, but this place gave us the true feeling of eating Indian food straight from India itself. My dad was especially happy with the taste and quality. A big thank you to the team for bringing these flavors — we look forward to seeing more exciting dishes

Absolutely amazing. Was on my way from kandy to sigiriya, and got too hungry on the way so decided to stop by. We had the mutton rogan Josh and chicken rara with the garlic naan. Our tour guide had chicken fried rice. Everything is wonderful. Only thing is we were too hungry so didn’t take any pictures Would highly recommend this. Great price too

Gedarawage

Permanently Closed
Restaurant
Nestled along the historic A9 route from Kandy to Jaffna, Gedarawage is a charming eatery that captures the essence of traditional Sri Lankan architecture with its clay walls and palm-leaf thatched roof. Located just before Matale Town, this hidden gem offers stunning views of a lush green valley and is in proximity to the former royal retreat where Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip once stayed.
Good stop for food we had buffet lunch with dishes that taste like home tasty not overly spicy.
YVRIRL — Google review
Going north on the old A9 Kandy to Jaffna road, we chanced upon this little place with clay walls, palm-Leaf thatched roof and bamboo blinds, overlooking a lovely green valley just before Matale Town, near to where the Queen and Prince Philip once stayed at Pansaletthena ‘Bungalow”. This little royal retreat is not visible from the road or the café - but you can gaze from your table at the beautiful old trees on that estate…. ‘Gedarawage ’ is open for Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner until 10.30pm. The aptly named ‘Gedarawage’ means ‘Home away from Home” in Sinhalese. Charming and attentive, Mr Ajantha, the owner, and his friendly staff, Indira and Chandra, serve very tasty traditional Sri Lankan food from traditional clay pots set on a buffet. On the day we went , there was a good choice of curries (goat stew ‘mutton’; cuttlefish curry; chicken curry, or ambutial fish in ‘goraka’ sauce) with three kinds of rice or noodles, plus tasty vegetables (banana flowers cooked in coconut milk, dahl stew, and chopped fresh murunga leaf salad) with mini-papadums and chutneys on the side - all prepared from local crops. They have deserts like wattelappa, or fresh fruit salad and/or buffalo-curd yogurt with honey. The food is prepared fresh daily, and is very reasonably priced. There are only a few tables, and the breeze from the valley makes it a pleasant rest-stop en route from Kandy to Dambulla and Sigiriya. You can order chilled fresh fruit drinks whisked in a blender, (papaya, pineapple or watermelon) and they serve good tea and coffee too. A most relaxing and welcome surprise in a pretty spot on the way north to remarkable Lion Rock. They also have a western-style W.C., and on Sundays, Gedawarage can get rather busy with locals out for a traditional Sinhalese treat. They would not dream of eating here if the food was questionable! Only a few foreigners have tried this place so far, so it will not be a well-kept secret for long! Super and laid-back …I have been three times to eat here now, and can highly recommend it.

Open Kitchen matale

Restaurant
Fast food restaurant
During my recent culinary adventure at Open Kitchen Matale, I was truly impressed by the delightful dining experience it offered. The standout dish for me was undoubtedly the pasta, which presented a remarkable fusion of flavors that made each bite an explosion of taste. Their unique take on this classic favorite is executed flawlessly. Equally noteworthy were the string hoppers—soft and fluffy, they served as an ideal base for accompanying dishes.
The food was absolutely wonderful, from preparation to presentation, very pleasing. The food was fresh, properly prepared and a great value for the price. I highly, recommend it. We have had two meals here in two days. Absolutely amazing! I love that you get a lot of food as well for the price. Its definitely not like other expensive restaurants and you only get a small amount of food. I am definitely going back. Specially Friendly management and staff...

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Open Kitchen Matale, and I must say, it was an outstanding experience! The highlight of my meal was undoubtedly the Pasta . The blend of flavors was mind-blowing, and every bite was a delightful explosion of taste. It’s a unique twist on a traditional favorite, and they executed it perfectly. Additionally, the string hoppers were equally impressive. They were soft and fluffy, serving as a perfect canvas for the accompanying dishes. Speaking of which, the chili paste they provided was a remarkable fusion of tastes—spicy, savory, and just the right amount of kick to elevate the meal. Overall, I would rate my experience at Open Kitchen Matale a 10/10 without a doubt. The creativity and quality of the food are truly exceptional. If you're in the area, this place is a must-visit!

We ordered the chicken cheese kothu and were very disappointed. It was completely tasteless—no spice, no salt, and we honestly couldn’t even keep it in our mouths. However, the crispy chicken burger was quite good. Overall, not happy with the kothu, but the burger was a redeeming point.

Colombo Bandaranaike International Airport

International airport
Bandaranaike International Airport, located near Colombo, is a modern airport with numerous duty-free shops offering a wide range of products including electronics and appliances. Just 10 km away lies Negombo, a serene coastal town known for its picturesque beaches and commercial significance. It's only a 20-minute drive from the airport, making it a preferred arrival or departure point compared to the hour-long journey to Colombo city.
A lot of changes have occurred. In the immigration area, Sri Lankan Passport holders can now register for e-immigration, where they can first register and then complete the process. So then an officer will only stamp after everything is done by the citizen. Easier for Sri Lankans. Thank you for that move. Plus, a new self-check-in area is made for all flying Sri Lankan Airlines. Once again, a good step so passengers flying Sri Lankan Airlines will have less hassle and can self-check in. The only downside is that the food is kind of expensive. So, for passengers, eat well before coming 🤭. The Airport is very clean and tidy. Seating good. Plus, there is good and enough seating available in the required areas. Which is good. It is said that new constructions are on the way. Let's see how things roll. Good if we can make another runway (which is said to be planned as well), which will help navigate the air traffic better with minimum delays😌✨️. Whatsoever, at the end, my motherland ✨️😌.

After all it’s my home country , Thought sharing my honest feedback 😉. generally a smooth and pleasant experience always here. The airport is compact, clean, and well-maintained, with helpful and courteous staff who made navigation through check-in and security quick and simple—sometimes even more efficient than airports in the UK. There’s a good selection of duty-free shops, cafes, and lounges, though prices are a bit steep. Wi-Fi and lighting were hit or miss in some areas, and seating can be limited when it gets busy. Overall, CMB offers a welcoming and reasonably comfortable experience—just be ready for queues, higher-than-average prices, and bring your own snacks or anticipation for rest areas.

I had a pleasant experience at Bandaranaike International Airport (CMB) in Colombo. The check-in process was surprisingly efficient and quick, even during a busy morning period, which made navigating the terminal a breeze. The staff were cooperative and helpful, aligning with the warm hospitality I experienced at places like Shangri-La Colombo and One Galle Face Mall during my trip. The airport’s infrastructure is basic but well-designed, with a compact layout that’s easy to navigate, especially for transit passengers. The contemporary design with Sri Lankan cultural motifs adds a nice touch, though it feels a bit outdated in parts. There are various dining options, from fast food like Burger King to local Sri Lankan dishes at places like Palm Strip Restaurant. However, prices are steep, expect to pay ~$12-$15 for a meal, which is high for the region. My main gripe was the limited shopping options. The duty-free zone focuses heavily on electronics, which isn’t ideal for tourists. I was specifically looking for a Lotus Tower souvenir to commemorate my visit to Colombo, but the only option was an expensive glass-covered model that felt overpriced for what it was. Also, I couldn’t find a bookstore, which was disappointing. Overall, CMB is a functional airport with efficient check-in and a decent atmosphere, but the lack of diverse shops and affordable souvenirs holds it back. Fine for a quick transit, but don’t expect a robust shopping experience.

The main airport in Sri Lanka. Caters almost all international flights to and from country. Situated away from the capital Colombo can travel by highway in around 45 minutes. Airport is having one terminal with multiple gates for boarding and landing. It has basic infrastructure to carter a large number of passengers. Yet, there’s almost always a rush. The staff is good, friendly and efficient but may be workload is high. The airport can be more developed and modernized to avoid the rush. It doesn’t provide strollers for kids but have wheelchairs and special assistance for disabled passengers.

I am working in Thailand and usually travel from Trichy to Thailand with a transit at Colombo Airport. The transit experience is always very comfortable, and I really appreciate SriLankan Airlines for their excellent service. Mobile charging points are available, but Thailand-type adapters are not supported at the airport. The food and tea shops are good, and there are plenty of shops inside the terminal. Drinking water is also easily available along the way. Overall, it’s a very convenient airport for Indian travelers. I have transited through this airport many times — it offers many flight options to major destinations across India. The facilities are excellent, the service is great, and the staff are always friendly and helpful.

Overall, it was a pretty decent. The airport felt organized and easy to get around, and the staff were genuinely friendly and welcoming — that warm Sri Lankan hospitality really shows. From check-in to baggage claim, everyone was polite and helpful, which made the journey smoother. That said, there were a few downsides. Immigration took quite a while since there were very few officers on duty, and the queues were long. The washrooms also need a bit more attention in terms of cleanliness and maintenance. All in all, it’s a nice airport with a great atmosphere — just wish the immigration process and facilities were a bit better managed.

Sri Lanka’s main international airport is quite a busy place, so it’s best to arrive at least three hours before your flight. There are porters available to help you with your luggage, but please note that it’s a paid service. You can simply carry your own bags if you prefer, although you’ll need to handle your luggage at a few different checkpoints (around 2–3 times) yourself. Only passengers are allowed to enter the airport. If anyone else wants to go inside, they need to buy an entry ticket, which is around 500 LKR. Even then, they can only go a little past the entrance – so it’s really not necessary. Inside the terminal, there are a few shops, food outlets, banks, and even a small supermarket. The toilets are clean, and the general facilities are well maintained. Once you check in and go to the second floor, you’ll find many branded stores, duty-free shops, and several nice cafés. I also noticed that they recently added a special area for monks which is a thoughtful initiative. Overall, the airport is functional, clean, and managed well.
Chaami S — Google review
This airport is quite small, and I had to spend almost 8 hours here during a night transit. Honestly, it was not very comfortable because there aren’t many places where you can really rest or lie down. The seating is limited and not designed for long waits. Food options in the transit area are also very limited, especially late at night, so it’s better to bring something with you if you know you’ll be staying for a while. On a positive note, I noticed that the toilets have improved compared to my last visit about 5 years ago—they are cleaner and better maintained now. There are sleeping pods available, but the price is extremely high, which makes them not really worth it for most travelers. Overall, the airport is fine for short layovers, but for long transits—especially overnight—it’s quite challenging.
