Bakewell Old House Museum is a hidden gem in Bakewell, offering a journey through local history. Originally built during Henry VIII's reign as a tax collector's cottage, it later became a gentleman's residence and then mill workers' cottages during the Industrial Revolution. Saved from demolition 50 years ago, it now stands as one of the best-preserved 15th century houses in the country.
Visited Bakewell many many times from Glossop but never been to the museum. So glad we went today. It's a fascinating place with so much history and full of interesting exhibits. We were given a brief history of the Tudor building on arrival. Well worth the £6.50 entrance fee. And worth the long steep walk up to it. Although you can drive. John & Jane Parkin. The church is also a very interesting place to visit just below.

What a treat this was. Wandered up to get a better view of the town and then started following signs to the museum, had the dog with me so thought I’d only be able to take a look from the outside, but they allowed dogs! Got a great intro to the place and the two ladies at the ticket office were a delight. Would recommend to anyone visiting Bakewell.
Christian M — Google review
We wandered up to this museum on recommendation from a lady who was volunteering at one of the charity shops in town. She knew we enjoyed embroidery and thought we'd appreciate the historical pieces, as well as recently stitched items the local embroidery club had done to complement items in the museum collection. What a fantastic collaboration! We found the museum to be worth every bit of the entrance fee and had no wait to start our tour with one of the knowledgeable docents. Coming from the United States it was very interesting to see 500 years of history represented in one building and collection. The vignettes were meticulously curated and displayed. We practically had the building to ourselves and spent quite a bit of time looking around. We could easily have spent more time and remarked amongst ourselves that this would be a valuable school or family trip for all ages. Thank you to the two docents!

This little museum, hidden behind All Saints Church, is very easy to miss! It took me about 10 minutes to walk here from the town centre, up a steep hill and through the churchyard, but it was well worth the effort. It's in a well preserved 2-storey Tudor house, reached through a cobbled courtyard. I paid £7.50 for an adult ticket (it's £4.50 for a child), valid for a year. The lady at the welcome desk was enthusiastic and friendly, explaining the museum's layout and what there was to see. It took me about an hour and a half to see it all. The self guided tour began with a short video outlining the house's history as a Tudor tithe collector's home and, much later, accommodation for Victorian mill workers. You get to see what it was like to live here in both these eras as you walk around. The downstairs rooms still have original features like oak beams and old stone fireplaces, and some of the furniture is also original. Lots of domestic artefacts, and a wealth of information to read. There's so much of interest to see upstairs, from antique cameras to Victorian toys, and WW2 memorabilia to home remedies for numerous ailments, and lots of stories too, including how Bakewell pudding was invented. There were plenty of activities for children, including a rat trail to follow, and a small gift shop and toilets at the entrance. A fascinating glimpse into Bakewell's history, which I'm glad I didn't miss!
Valerie H — Google review
Was a nice find, and if it's not busy, it is enjoyable, access is limited by stairs to the 1st floor. A nice collection of artifacts showing Bakewell history and domestic items.
John B — Google review
Great little locally run museum. Lots to see and well worth the £7.50. Originally a 1534 house belonging to a tax collecter. Later Richard Arkwright took over the buildings, installed a water mill and brought in 6 families to work . The house was inhabited by different families until 1950s but was deemed insanitary. Eventually restored by Bakewell Heritage . Lots of very interesting things to see.
Linda P — Google review
Great old-fashioned museum . Gorgeous building of course .some of t he displays matched the building but altogether enjoyable

Marvelous collection of historical buildings in a beautiful landscape location. Took advantage of the Gardener's World 2 for 1 admission offer tickets. Thoroughly enjoyed the guided talks in different rooms. A later lunch was excellent value for quality food and drinks. Well worth visiting again.

Such a fun visit. Loved seeing the place where so many films have been set, and learning about the castle's true history. Well-worth the visit; make sure to go outside and walk around the peaceful gardens.
Natalie N — Google review
Really interesting place with lots to explore..! I went to see the current exhibition about magic and superstition its very cool! Beautiful gardens and stunning scenery too. Lots of uneven floors and steps so not great for people with mobility issues and I wouldn't fancy taking a pram..parking is charged extra so be prepared for that. Highly recommend 👌
Evalynne C — Google review
A beautifully renovated medieval manor house hosting a delightfully styled exhibition about Elizabethan connections to magic and mature, informed, educating and entertaining. The beautifully designed gardens are a pleasure to walk around and the host volunteers are friendly and welcoming. There is a lovely restaurant on site, best to book in advance as it's popular. A experience, highly recommended
The C — Google review
Great place, we visited during the Magic exhibition and thought it was really well designed in both exhibition text and visually - it was stunning to see in the Hall. Guides were good- especially Chris M who showed us all of the scorch marks and was really informative. The café is small but the food was great. On our way out we were looking forward to the gift shop but found this disappointing, nothing about or related to the Hall or the exhibition. Though it's good to work with what I assume are local small businesses, a core retail offer remaining would have been appreciated as we aren't local so won't be back. The lady running the admissions desk kindly returned after closing so that we could at least buy the exhibition guide. Parking was easy with an attendant and payment was taken on entry as the exit barrier was faulty.
Natasha A — Google review
Amazingly well preserved medieval hall. If you visit on Mondays there are free guided tours, our guide was both fun and informative. Would definitely recommend the restaurant as well, great home made food at a reasonable price.
James M — Google review
It's a smallish medieval country house which is an independent business compared to those often operated by the National Trust. It's quite interesting architecturally but there's not a whole lot to see yet admission prices are quite high. We went whilst they had a theme on Magic and Superstition which was reasonably interesting if quite condensed. The cafe wasn't bad with a decent selection of food and drink offerings Make sure you are steady on your feet as there are significant amounts of uneven floors and stairs
Robin C — Google review
What a magical day out! Definitely the best Christmas market I've been to - so classy, great stalls, good food and just so well done. Will absolutely be going again!

Thornbridge Brewery, located in Bakewell, is a small and modern brewery that offers pre-booked guided tours, beer samples, and a complimentary branded glass. The brewery's passion for brewing the finest quality beer has made its products available nationwide and in over 35 countries worldwide. Visitors can enjoy brewery-fresh beer and handmade pizzas at the Taproom while also exploring gifts, merchandise, and locally sourced meat from Thornbridge Hall estate.
Great selection of beers and pizza. Order at the bar, and they deliver pizzas to your table. Everything was delicious and relatively quick. Great selection of seating and good signage. The kind of place to sit and enjoy both your drink and company opposed to rush off. Excellent choice for food and drink.
Alyssa B — Google review
I’ve been drinking the signature Jaipur IPA in my local for a while now, really enjoyable pint, so couldn’t wait to see what else Thornbridge had to offer! Great Taproom, popular selection of IPAs, larger and stouts, really like the idea of picking 3 tasters, allowing you to sample the range and go back to what you like. When you add the addition of a fresh cooked stone baked pizza, you won’t want to leave anytime soon. Parking available although you do have to register, and is also dog friendly - another bonus !
Will H — Google review
This is my husbands favourite brewery and has a subscription from them so knowing we were on holiday nearby I knew the brewery tour would make the perfect gift. The tour consisted of a film about the how the brewery started , then a talk about the equipment and followed with six taster beers which I enjoyed even though I'm not a big beer lover. Happy husband = happy wife.
Sue P — Google review
Fantastic tap room! We got a couple of tasting paddles to work out our favs - Crux & Heff 😋 The pizzas were delicious too, and good value. Highly recommend a visit! Lots of seating inside & out. Dog friendly 🐾
Daisy D — Google review
Really great vibe here! Interesting venue and great space. The beers are as good as you'd expect from an award winning Brewery like Thornbridge, great selection of their classics and also specials. We tried the pizza too and considering this is a Brewery not a pizzeria I was very impressed! Absolutely spot on 10/10
Laura M — Google review
Lovely venue, nice pizza and good dips however the drink let this place down. Most the beers were IPA's / Pale ales / larger which all were very similar. The one stout was mediocre at best, lacked taste. If you are into your real ales / cask ales I would give it a miss. Instead maybe go to the Titanic brewery / tap room in Matlock.
Moximaxius — Google review
Great space with ample seating room outside and in - nice pizzas to go alongside the hyper local beers (you can see the brewing vats from the seating area). Highly recommended
Quintus C — Google review
Have made a few days trips to Bakewell where we always stop off here for some great beers. There's a great selection, it's a fairly new venue with a great atmosphere and always feels inclusive for families, people with dogs, all ages and abilities. I've always had a great time here and enjoy bringing guests here for a casual stop off. Looking forward to our next visit and trying a beer flight. Nice that they have a selection of beers including lagers, pale ales, stouts and sours plus ciders and non-alcoholic beers on tap. Enjoy!

The Old Original Bakewell Pudding Shop is a renowned bakery, deli, and restaurant that has been serving up the famous Bakewell pudding for years. The shop holds the original secret recipe under lock and key, sending out their delectable puddings to all corners of the globe. Visitors can also enjoy a delightful afternoon tea featuring various renditions of the iconic Bakewell treat.
A wonderful shop in Bakewell! The most delicious puddings, amazing food, lovely atmosphere with wonderful, friendly staff. Our experience was great, we went in for cream tea & the original Bakewell puddings. It was so nice we returned a few days later to have the cooked breakfast, Bakewell tart & deluxe hot chocolate! It was all so yummy! 100% recommend if you are travelling this way to pop in. Thank you ☺️
Taryn E — Google review
I had great service at the Old Original Bakewell Pudding Shop and restaurant. I went up to the restaurant for breakfast, and was able to get a table, even though I didn’t have a reservation. I had the Original Pudding for breakfast, along with a pot of tea. It was DELICIOUS. I had bought a tart and pudding to bring back for my husband to try later, and we both preferred the pudding to the tart, though the in-restaurant experience, when it was served with warm custard, was the highlight. Would definitely go back!
Alyssa B — Google review
Went in for lunch for 3 people. The food was excellent, but the service was atrocious. After being seated we had to ask for a server so we could place our food order. We ordered a soup and a main course and the person bringing out the food had to ask if we wanted our soup served before the main course. Why would you want them together. We wanted Bakewell pudding for dessert and had to ask for our dishes to be cleared so we could order it. Meanwhile other tables were being cleared. I asked the person serving the food and he said he’d send our waitress, but she never showed up and we never saw her again. I did get the server to order it and then had to ask again that it had been ordered. It took over 15 minutes to get their signature dessert to us. Overall service was appalling. The place needs more staff and better communications between the staff they have and then with the customer.
Roland S — Google review
A nice spot for breakfast if visiting the area. Slightly strange smell upstairs in the restaurant and they had run out of orange juice on a Sunday morning (9am) - I gladly had the last one but the rest of the group went without! Food was tasty but not huge portions. We didn’t have a reservation but were seated quickly.
Ella — Google review
On the main road through Bakewell is the original Bakewell pudding shop. Excellent place, that sells original Bakewell puddings and tarts and loads of other sorts of tarts, cakes and savoury stuff. They also sell lots of drinks including ridiculously expensive bottles of beer . There is room for dining and also a small beer garden type place at the back. Lovely old building, spotlessly clean , with friendly, helpful staff.
Richard F — Google review
Hard to visit Bakewell and not partake of a tart/pudding. This was the place we chose and the light bites were very nice and good value. We tried a Bakewell Pudding and a tart and it was very nice indeed. Definitely worth a visit if you are in town.
Mark F — Google review
The Old Original Bakewell Pudding Shop is a charming, well-maintained spot that feels deceptively spacious inside. Beyond its quaint exterior, the ground floor houses a bustling café, bakery counter, and gift shop, while upstairs offers a cozy restaurant serving cakes, drinks, and light bites. As a clear tourist hotspot, the shop was busy, with a lively atmosphere. The gift shop offers trinkets like mugs and jugs, with prices ranging from reasonable to pricey. Large Bakewell tarts were available for around £6. We headed upstairs to the restaurant, where a short wait led us to a warm, homely dining area. Limited seating added to the cozy charm, though it could mean a brief wait during peak times. The staff were friendly and welcoming throughout. The menu leaned slightly expensive. A generous slice of delicious, fresh chocolate cake cost £6, while the famous Bakewell pudding, served with custard or cream, was £10 individually or £16 for a sharing option. Our group opted for individual puddings with custard. Though small, the puddings were warm, freshly baked, and delightful, paired with creamy custard. At £10, the price felt steep for the portion, but it’s a must-try in Bakewell. Alternatives like Bakewell tarts, sandwiches, and other cakes were also available. Overall, the experience was pleasant, blending touristy appeal with genuine charm. A visit here is worth it for the iconic pudding and cozy vibe.
Tayla B — Google review
Came here to try the famous pudding. Was surprised at the cost, so opted for a sharer between 4 of us. It was delicious - did not expect to like more than Bakewell tart but it definitely took poll position! Nice seating. Service was quite brusque

Chatsworth House

Mentioned on

Manor house
Museums
Chatsworth House is a grand stately home located near Bakewell in the Peak District. It offers visitors the chance to explore its lavishly decorated corridors and learn about its rich history. The estate also features a playground, farmyard, and lush grounds perfect for romantic walks or even bringing along your furry friend.
I cannot speak highly enough about this place, it is just "wow" from start to finish. Parking was easy, even on a busy Saturday, the house is awesome, from the gilt Versailles like gates, every room is jaw dropping, completely over the top, lavish decor, painted frescoes on the ceilings and walls, beautiful ornate plasterwork, carved wall panels, leather embellished walls, fabulous chandeliers, gorgeous paintings and a ton of really beautiful pieces of art, ceramics and statues. The staff are super helpful and friendly, I recommend the audio guide, it is very informative. There is a lovely gift shop selling high quality gifts, including Chatsworth's jams, chutney, drinks and house related gifts. Outside the grounds don't disappoint, there are huge greenhouses and plants to see and buy. There is the famous fountain and lake featured in Pride and Prejudice, a massive rockery garden, made from massive stacked granite slabs, I've never seen anything like it. There is a giant hedge maze and beautiful views from wherever you are in the grounds. I believe there is a children's play area and farmyard, but I didn't visit there as I was too tired after all the walking. The only thing I didn't really enjoy was the sandwich I got from the deli van, it was quite expensive and the bread was really thick and overwhelmed the filling. Ice cream and sandwiches cost around £7+. There is a restaurant there but I can't comment on that as I didn't use it. There are plenty of well maintained public toilets but not inside the house. Standard Adult entry is £32, including parking, which is on the high side, but in my opinion it is worth it.
Marianne O — Google review
We bought our tickets to the house in advance and I would recommend this as it can get quite busy. I visited with my Nan who uses a walker and the staff couldn't have done more to help her. She was escorted to lifts which meant she didn't miss a thing. Several times she was asked if she'd like a buggy ride to different parts of the estate, but even being a little frail she managed to walk most places with her walker. Overall we loved our visit. The food we had, although quite expensive, was well worth it and very delicious! The sights we saw were amazing. The house and grounds are kept immaculately and we enjoyed learning about the history of the estate. We were there for 5 hours and still didn't get to see everything, but then we weren't in a rush. Oh and cute cats in the kitchen garden are a bonus too! I loved being able to fuss them. I would definitely recommend a visit.
Felicity F — Google review
We enjoy visiting Chatsworth House. This time an art exhibition was on display, which changed the experience in a positive way. We don’t always get to see the animals, but we were able to this time around. The weather was great. The staff were helpful. We had a poke around the shops. A lovely day out. I would recommend to anyone, especially if you haven’t been before
Jared W — Google review
The Chatsworth Christmas ticket gives you access to the House, unlimited entry to the gardens for one day, and you can also access the Christmas market (which is free). It’s a lovely day out and well worth the ticket price. Be warned, food and drink inside is very pricey (but what do you expect?). I’d recommend the Stables for something lovely and warm that doesn’t break the bank.
Emily M — Google review
excellent day out, lots of stewards buzzing around offering help. my elderly mother was well taken care of and we were ushered through using lifts and short cuts. was a great day for her. interesting descriptions provided throughout the house. try to venture into the gardens and take photos from in front of the fountain.
Shompa B — Google review
The christmas markets are very good and of course the house, gardens and farm are open. The decorations are very good this year. Best to get to the markets early (10am) as it gets busy by 12pm. The food at the market isn't cheap at about £15 for most meals. The cafe near to the shop at the top of the markets serve sandwiches at about £8 each and also have goid toilets. Another thing we do each year is to take our own longer stick and large marshmallows rather than buy the short sticks they provide and take drinks with you.
Mr B — Google review
Really enjoyable day the grounds are beautiful would visit again. The house was lovely didn't take long to visit all the rooms all were very beautiful. The staff were fabulous can honestly say every encounter was helpful snd friendly and just really nice people. The food eas exceptionally good lots of choice . Will be going back mainly to explore more of the grounds and visit the shop and cafe.
Becca L — Google review
Large Christmas market with lots of stalls. The house is decorated well with lots of little fairy lights in the rooms. Our day was sunny but cold. We walked around the gardens and ventured into the maze, got a bit lost 🤣🤣. Well worth the visit.

It's such a lovely place, a beautiful river running through it with great pubs and fish and chip shops everywhere and lovely looking shops selling artwork of all kinds of stuff. It's a must visit.

Great and helpful visitor center. Thank you to the nice visitor center man who helped me plan 3 days of running routes in the Peak District during my solo trip. Even even helped me plan my bus routes around the holiday bus schedule. Picked up some national park patches to being home.
Brianna T — Google review
We originally visited the center to look at the "history of Bakewell" embroidery series on the upper floor. What a clever idea and beautiful execution of that idea. A true gift to the community. The workmanship and timeline were very well done and I've never seen anything like it. May it be as longlasting as the Bayeux Tapestry! We returned twice more for valuable information that was freely given in a welcoming and patient manner. We appreciate that the community has funded this great resource for visitors.

Magpie Mine

Sights & Landmarks
Historical landmark
Magpie Mine is an atmospheric attraction in the countryside that features ruins from a 19th century lead mine. The site has a fascinating history of bitter disputes and fights, as well as the murder of three miners. It is still said to have a Widows Curse, which means that unmarried women are warned not to venture there.
Lovely little visit here only issue was the cows but they soon moved when they saw dogs. There is a good information board on the site showing you what and where things used to be.
Alana L — Google review
Found this when hikes to Deep Dale. Magpie Mine is a well-preserved 19th-century lead mine with a notable industrial history. The original structures such as the Cornish Engine House offers a great experience of history. The mine is open, free to visit, and set in a remote, scenic location. While the terrain may be challenging for some, the site provides an informative glimpse into the region’s mining heritage.
Manoj P — Google review
Interesting place. At first the sat nav took us to a farmer’s land to get there but the gate was guarded by a bull watching a lot of sleeping cows - so we thought better of that route. Locals guided us to level access on the other side of the mines. It looked easy and level from there - but we had run out of time to walk it from there.
Caroline G — Google review
Exemplary preservation of Derbyshire's most complete lead mine, which had a storied history spanning over 200 years, only closing in the 1950s. The Cornish engine house and chimney stand almost completely intact, and numerous other structures still exist on the site, including winding gear, a circular powder store and a reconstruction horse gin, which would have been used to raise lead ore up to ground level. The site is free to visit any time, though the Agent's House and Smithy are only accessible on Heritage Open Days. Sheer drops are sealed and buildings have been made safe, so there are no restrictions on reasonable access. A number of information boards around the site cover the mine's history in detail. It's one of the best managed industrial heritage sites I've seen. The setting adds to the appeal, the mine sat high in the Peak District overlooking miles of green countryside. There are some fantastic photo opportunities here. There's a small amount of free roadside parking just outside the mine site. Well worth a visit if you're in the area and have even a passing interest in industrial history.
Andrew T — Google review
If you like your history I think this is an interesting place to visit. Parking is in a large layby with free access across farm land where sometimes cows roam. Dogs are allowed but must be on lead. There's an information board which explains what the buildings you can see were used for. It's definitely thought provoking as there's still so much standing including the metal cage that the miners used to use to travel into the darkness below. On the day I visited the wind was howling across the open+very remote landscape and you can imagine what life must have been like for those miners back in the days when it was working. It's well preserved at the moment and I really hope that in the years to come there are still these wonderful people around who are looking after this site for future generations,so we may continue to remember what past lives were like.
Sandra B — Google review
Fantastic. The mine has several public paths that go through the site so it is easy to visit and see the workings. We were fortunate to have a tour which gave a fascinating insight in to the history of this last working lead mine in Derbyshire, from its 200 years of operation being first recorded in 1740. It has a very chequered history of dodgy dealings, disputes, murder and even a curse! Much of it remains with several capped mineshafts, the ruined Cornish engine house and chimney, a replica horse gin and the winding house square chimney. It's well worth visiting when the very helpful and friendly volunteers are there in the old agents house and smithy, who certainly deserve a generous donation.

Fascinating place with some very good information boards. Easy walk from the parking location.

Midway point on a beautiful 9km hike around Sheldon and Ashford. From one stile to the next gate across the lovely walled pastures. A couple of steep climbs too, but always rewarded with gorgeous views. Interesting history to the lead mines too.

Bath Gardens in Bakewell is a charming spot that offers a picturesque view of the River Wye. It's an ideal place to relax and enjoy some local delicacies like fish and chips or the famous Bakewell Pudding. The gardens are adorned with beautiful flowers, making it a lovely place for a leisurely stroll or to simply sit back and take in the natural beauty.
Small but beautiful gardens in the centre of Bakewell, with a bowls green present too. Lovely place to sit and eat a takeaway lunch, or to enjoy the gorgeously arranged flowers. Works really well as a scenic shortcut too as entrances are from both sides of the garden!

Lovely gardens,& a bowling green. Very well kept, plenty of benches to sit, imagine it gets very busy in the summer & weekends, actually just behind the bus stops, so got there 20 mins early for the bus,& had a nice little look around.

Absolutely Beautiful and Peaceful Bath Gardens is a true hidden gem! The floral displays are stunning and so thoughtfully maintained—it’s clear a lot of care goes into every detail. Whether you're enjoying a quiet stroll, taking photos, or simply sitting on a bench to soak in the peaceful atmosphere, it's the perfect spot to unwind. The location is ideal, right near the heart of town, but it still feels like a tranquil escape. A must-visit for anyone who appreciates nature, flowers, and a bit of calm beauty in the day.

A haven of beauty & peace away from hustle & bustle despite being in the town centre. Beautiful display borders of phlox in full bloom interspersed with small dark shrubs. Just as a garden should be, a reminder of public gardens from my younger years. Beautifully maintained & clearly loved. It is purely a garden to sit & reflect. No food sellers, no toilets, nothing but seating & wonderful borders full of colour.

Quaint town famous for the tarts! Nice place to have a walk. Lots of lovely historic buildings and well tended gardens where you can take 5 with a coffee.

All Saints Church, Bakewell

Churches & Cathedrals
All Saints Church in Bakewell is an ancient church with a rich history dating back to the Saxons and Normans. The present church, with its fine spire and unusual octagonal tower, has been a landmark for over six hundred years. It underwent a major restoration in the 19th century by Gilbert Scott, adding to its magnificence. The church houses relics from different periods including Celtic, Saxon, and Norman artifacts.
Amazing suberp cathedral over 12 centuries old, on the top of the hill looking over the town and the River Wye passing through the lovely town Bakewell of the Peak District. It is worth visiting as it holds the history of the town and the surroundings.

A remarkable church in a remarkable setting. At Xmas there was an excellent Xmas tree display which shows a very supportive and lively congregation.

The church is beautiful and ancient, but for me it's where John Butler is meditating. Had the privilege of meeting him and talking to him a bit. I'm humble and blessed!

In a first visit to Bakewell a must see for the was the All Saints Church, which sits on a small hill overlooking the town. It's a couple of minutes walking distance from the main town high street. The original church itself dates back to Saxon times around 920 but the present church was started in the 12th century. This is an ancient church with alot of history. The architecture is marvel to see and the church graveyard is beautiful and filled with hundreds of amazing gravestones several hundred years old, you could easily spend an hour walking round. This is mos definitely worth a wonder up whilst in Bakewell.

A beautiful Church a short walk uphill from the bustling town centre. I enjoyed walking all the quaint (and also very quiet) roads that meander towards the church. It’s always the same way, you take one turning of the high street and you lose the tourist and gain some peace. Lovely town to enjoy even on a bit of soggy day!

The all saints church is a must visit if your planning on going to bakewell it's one of the oldest churches in the peak district, more than 1000 years old, a truly beautiful piece of architecture to appreciate inside, and out with a very polite vicar that was more than happy to answer questions we had about Christianity and the history of the church.

I have visited Bakewell many times over the years, and only visited this recently and I am kicking myself for not doing it sooner. What a stunning church and church yard! You can spend ages just walking the yard and reading the stones, admiring the church from the outside and the views from up top. (A lot of stones are from the cholera outbreak in Bakewell, incredibly sad seeing all the little ones who didn't make it) Then you go into the entrance and are greeted by the most incredible collection of stone grave covers and 100s of year old carvings. Great info board which I appreciated. And then the inside. Oh my. Just wow. An obviously still used and loved church which has kept its amazing history alive, while still hosting an active community. This is not just a church which is dying quietly but for tourist visits but an alive and happy one. A little honesty area where you can get some nice cards and so on, incredible Norman and also Saxon areas. Highly recommenced for any church lover or history nerd.
Kat H — Google review
A short but fairly steep walk up the hill from the centre of Bakewell, this lovely and peaceful church provided me with a welcome respite from the bustle of the town. It stands on the site of a Saxon church, and there are some well preserved relics from that era to be seen here including ancient stone coffins, some intricately carved stones in the church porch, and two beautiful 10th century crosses in the churchyard. I found so much to interest me inside the church too, in particular the impressive monuments and the 13th century stone seats where the medieval clergy once sat. Some beautiful Victorian stained glass windows. There's a leaflet that helps you find the most interesting features, it costs just 20p and I found it very useful. You can also buy a guidebook for £2. There are some lovely views of the town and surrounding countryside from the churchyard. Well worth a visit!

The Castle Inn is a charming 16th-century inn located in Bakewell, a picturesque stone-built market town nestled between the River Wye and the main A6 routeway. The inn offers four smart and simple rooms, along with a cozy bar serving pub-style food. The historical charm of the inn is complemented by modern comfort, creating a quintessential English experience. Guests can enjoy traditional British classics in the restaurant and bar, including hearty roasts and lighter bites.
We had the 'Hassop' double room which was nice and big with a very large bed. The room was on the first floor overlooking the beer garden which was fine. Little to no noise from it at bed time. Didn't eat here but did have drinks in the bar on a couple of nights. The staff were efficient and friendly. Free parking is a bonus.

Firstly, I cannot fault the location of this pub / hotel. My friend and I were taking part in the Peak District Ultra Challenge and it was super central for the start and finish line in Bakewell. However, that is the only positive I have. I arrived to check in for a two night stay and was greeted as if I was an inconvenience, especially by whom I assume to be the landlady. I don't think I've ever met anyone as unpleasant and rude as her, shouting over the top of me at her staff members and sighing and tutting when checking me in. We had booked to have dinner there but I immediately decided against it and we had dinner at another pub nearby and it was delicious. I'm especially pleased that we made that decision, as breakfast on Sunday morning was absolutely disgusting. It was totally inedible in fact. Everything on my breakfast looked like it had just been shown the oven, rather than going inside it. When I complained to the member of staff about it he informed me that they were short staffed and that the person cooking the breakfasts was not a chef?!!! I was really upset as I was looking forward to my breakfast after completing a very long walk the day before and we then had to go elsewhere and pay out more money for something we could eat that wasn't going to make us sick. The room was fine, basic and outdated, but clean enough. It was incredibly hot and there was no air con, but we were given a fan that helped a bit.

Group of ten of us for a late lunch on a Sunday. Some menu options had run out, which is understandable - the place was very busy. Overall the food was very good and the staff were absolutely lovely. The Castle has a great 'local pub' feel, even though it is part of a large group. I did have a payment issue, caused by me, and I found both the Castle Inn staff and the corporate customer service people very helpful and effective at resolving things. Great service from friendly and caring people.

The team arranged a fantastic birthday meal for our large party, even though the date coincided with carnival day. The food was delicious, service was great, restaurant very clean and they were kind enough to accomodate two extra kids at very short notice. Can't thank you enough!

We picked this place for our fish n chips Friday outing. Glad we did . A lovely old building in a great location near the river Derwent. Apart from the chips being a bit crispy the food was absolutely delicious, and at the right price. The main reason we visited this place was because there’s a few reviews saying the landlady was less than welcoming and rude. Not the case. All the staff were friendly, helpful, courteous and polite.dratt !!😎 Well worth a visit!
Richard F — Google review
Visited here today for the first time today and will not be returning anytime soon. From the moment we walked into the pub, I felt a bizarre atmosphere and it got much worse once we met the landlady. I went to the pub on a Friday lunch time, it was moderately busy but not too bad. I parked at the car park and noticed the signs said to register your registration number at the bar so that’s the first thing I did. I was met by a very hostile landlady who told me to order my food first so that she knows I’m actually spending money in the pub and not just using the parking. I thought this was fair enough although a little passive aggressive, I went back to the table and ordered our food and drinks. I then went back up to the bar to collect the drinks I ordered and give my registration number for the car again. Whilst I was at the bar I observed the landlady interact with multiple paying customers and she was generally so hostile to everyone single customer and her staff. She was then arguing quite loudly with a staff member about putting discounts through the till incorrectly. The staff members themselves were friendly and welcoming however it appeared they were under some stress from the landlady and this was quite clear whilst observing. The food was actually quite good and served piping hot, something I have come to expect when visiting a Greene King pub. The actual physical building is also nice and in an excellent location. It’s a shame that Greene King allow this toxic landlady to run this establishment into the ground as I doubt that it gets much repeat customers and the amount of poor reviews speak for themselves! Overall I would not recommend this pub and would choose one of the others in the area as there is plenty of nicer places to choose from whilst visiting the beautiful Peak District.

We went here today for lunch there was a total of 4 people in for lunch. The other couple ordered before we had gone in, the very unpleasant, unprofessional waitress brought us there meals, which one was different to ours. We said they wasn’t ours and the couple on the next table said they was theirs. When our meals arrived, my meal was Hunters chicken off the main menu, when it arrived there was a piece of chicken in a dish, two onion rings and a tiny bit of rocket. No chips !! My hubby had to go and find the waitress, after we had checked the menu to make sure it came with chips. She took it back to the kitchen. How on earth can you make that mistake !! Shows how much the waitress took note of the meals. She never once asked us if we had enjoyed our meals. The meals was certainly not the best we have had, chips was over cooked so was my hubbys fish. Never again will we eat here. God knows what would happen if they had more people in, cannot cope with four. Very bad experience for us, went to Bakewell to celebrate our anniversary. Thought The Castle looked a decent place, how wrong were we.

Came here to try the famous pudding. Was surprised at the cost, so opted for a sharer between 4 of us. It was delicious - did not expect to like more than Bakewell tart but it definitely took poll position! Nice seating. Service was quite brusque

This intimate dining spot boasts a sophisticated ambiance with its high beamed ceiling, creating an inviting atmosphere perfect for enjoying exquisite dishes crafted by Eric Piedaniels and his wife Christina, who have been delighting locals and visitors alike for two decades. We are visiting for the bank holiday locally in Bonsall and wanted to try something different. We were pleasantly surprised when we arrived. We were moved by wanting to support the couple that run this restaurant and we were not disappointed. The team warmly welcomed us and we were delighted to sample their warm fresh baked focaccia bread on arrival. A truly special touch. I ordered the sea bream, and my partner ordered the duck with orange sauce. For dessert we enjoyed the Creme Brûlée and passionfruit dessert and the chocolate butter pudding. The food was exceptional. The care and detail put into the experience and food and presentation was thoughtful and carefully curated. The depth of flavour of the sauces was a real treat. We can’t wait to suggest this to family that visit this area frequently and hope to return in the future. Thank you for a lovely evening!

Highly recommend this restaurant — a full 10 out of 10. The staff were very friendly and had warm, welcoming smiles. The restaurant was generous with its service: they first brought us a large bottle of iced water, and even gave us complimentary Italian herb bread. We each ordered the slow-cooked pork belly, and the restaurant also gave us two portions of vegetable side dishes.

We are not from the area but my partner took me here to celebrate my birthday. I wish I could give this place 10 stars. From the minute we walked in, we were greeted with amazing smiles and good energy from the staff. The place was absolutely beautiful!! The service was amazing and the attention to detail was immaculate, the staff were just amazing. The food!! Omg the food, from starters all the way to the desserts was just unbelievable. The quality of food was so good, I couldn’t believe it. My partner and I were very very impressed. We had an amazing night and will be definitely returning here in the future. It an experience anyone should experience to truly understand the high level of service and food they provide. They also had an amazing selection of wine, we were spoilt for choice. I 100% recommend this place.

Really good experience after booking for Friday night meal for two. We found this restaurant through various review sites. Friendly welcome, efficient service, nice range on the (French inspired?) Menu. Wine by carafe offered too which hits the spot between two glasses and a bottle. Calming classy decor. Really lovely cooking. Had three delightful courses. We pushed the boat out so cost about £65 per head with pre drink and tip. We thought good value and would happily return/recommend.

Good food, came for a birthday treat. Quite formal, my only quibble is the seating for 2 were very close, so felt like you were looking closely at someone's dinner. All friendly though, so not too awkward.

Best restaurant I've been to in the area. The food is always great, the portion sizes are quite generous, the quality and taste are great. There could be more vegetarian options, one of our party is vegetarian, other than that small complaint everything was spot on.

We did a walk-in yesterday which they were able to accommodate after an hour. Dinner was excellent. They gave us a tasty focaccia bread while we waited for the boullabaise and pork. The soup was excellent and light with big chunks of fish. We split up a crepe Suzette for dessert which was lit at the table, it was delicious, the flavour of orange was crisp yet balanced. Had a great dinner here. Would definitely recommend if you're in Bakewell.

The young lady serving was polite and efficient. There was a good selection of tempting looking cakes, even late in the afternoon when we dropped in. I had a brownie which was a good size, and delicious. My husband had a millionaire shortbread which he informs me was equally good.

I ordered a hot roast pork roll with stuffing and apple sauce. It’s good in general but I took the 2 stars off because i couldn’t taste any apple sauce, the staff might have forgotten to put it in my roll. Hopefully, I could taste some apple sauce with the roll next time, it would be much nicer.

Popped in between Christmas and New Year with a friend. Prices are so reasonable given some of the prices of other places in Bakewell. Cute and creative festive treats. Loved the Bakewell traybake and the cookie which was a little on the sweeter side but beautifully decorated. Lady behind the counter was alone but despite a packed shop (with humans and dogs), she was so friendly and explained what the Bakewell traybake was. Our hot chocolate and caramel macchiato were excellent too. Will definitely return to try out more treats.

I normally buy my Bakewell Puddings from The Old Original Bakewell Pudding Shop round the corner. But the queue was long so instead I took a punt on this place. Glad I did as the pastry was a lot better than the ones I've had previously. Would definitely go again. Although word of warning, the flaked almond puddings were lacking in jam and that seems to be a recurring theme. Stick to the traditional puddings and you can't go wrong.

I visited today and was served by a young lad who was really friendly and helpful. I have a severe nut allergy and he took the time to check ingredients properly and made sure I felt safe with what I was ordering. He didn’t rush or dismiss it like some places do. The cakes were nice too, overall a good experience

Restaurant Lovage by Lee Smith

Mentioned on

Restaurant
Nestled in the picturesque town of Bakewell, Restaurant Lovage by Lee Smith is a maverick Peak District eatery that has attracted attention from celebrities like Tom Cruise. The restaurant boasts a laid-back atmosphere with stripped-back decor and friendly staff. It offers inventive dishes such as cauliflower soup with curry granola and venison with date ketchup. Opened after a successful crowdfunding campaign, this four-year-old establishment has garnered praise for its modern English cuisine served in an elegant setting.
We were looking for a fine dining place to eat while in Bakewell and Lovage by Lee Smith did not disappoint. We went for the three courses for £45, however, note that does not include sides which is £5 each (and necessary if you don't just want to eat just meat!) That was my only gripe. We were served by Jonathan who was professional, hospitable and very knowledgeable about the dishes. The meal started with a delicious croustard and warm sourdough bread. I enjoyed every course. As an avid watcher of Great British Menu and the mouthwatering food that is served, I was pleased, and not surprised to hear that Chef Lee Smith was on this show. Delicious food, reasonable priced and I was full at the end.

The tasting menu was ok. Unfortunately we were 30 min late and the experience was a little bit rushed. I understand that being late was our fault, but bringing the first 2 courses simultaneously I don't think is the right thing to do... Be aware that is very challenging to find a parking space near the premises. I was driving in circles for 20 min.

We had a lovely evening at Lovage, had been recommended to go and are very glad we did The welcome, atmosphere and interior of the restaurant, all great The food was stunning, in looks and taste, a delicious, complimentary cheese filo tart started us off, all courses were memorable The wine list is a good size and starts off at less than £30,so decent value Was good to see the Maitre'd quietly training the young, efficient and friendly staff during service Have recommended and will return

What a fantastic restaurant! We visited as a treat as we were visiting Bakewell and we’re glad we came. The staff are wonderful and incredibly welcoming. The food was incredible. We had the 7-course tasting menu and each course was unique with such attention to detail. Although it is expensive, it’s reasonable for such a delicious tasting menu which stands up against other restaurants that are twice the price. We can’t wait to come back again soon.

We celebrated our anniversary at Lovage this year. It was a thoroughly enjoyable meal with some lovingly prepared dishes that are both delicious and memorable. The manager is so knowledgable and the staff too, what a great team they have. Thanks for making our special day even more special. We look forward to our next visit.

Couldn’t recommend Lovage highly enough. Clear focus on top quality food and fantastic service. My wife and I had the chateaubriand (and divine triple cooked thick chips!) - it was amazing - perfectly cooked medium rare. To nibble we had freshly baked bread and butter along with mini savoury tarts. Even though we were full we managed space for the salted caramel tart and banana ice cream - so, so good! Food aside service was second to none and the staff showed real pride in making customers happy. Will definitely come back and try the taster menu.

Visited last month for a 10th anniversary meal and everything was fantastic! Jonathon was the perfect host and each dish was explained upon delivery by polite and pleasant staff. The food was fantastic (we went for a sharing Chateaubriand which was cooked perfectly and the tuna starter we had was fabulous!) and the breads brought beforehand (local bitter bread with a marmite butter) were outstanding! Thank you so much guys, amazing night!

This spot was a true gem. The dinner tasting menu was delicious to the last bite. Each course was a happy dance for the taste buds and was a lovely celebration of local produce. The service and ambiance was on point, and an exceptional wine menu. I could not recommend Lovage more.

It seamlessly blends traditional and modern cuisine in a relaxed atmosphere, offering dishes like slow-cooked pork belly and wood-fired pizzas. Additionally, it features a spacious beer garden for guests to enjoy. Moreover, the restaurant is conveniently situated near Chatsworth Estate and Haddon Hall, making it an ideal stop after exploring these historic sites.
Beautiful modern restaurant set in an old mill, on top of the river which flows under. Service was excellent and friendly, the food delicious and well presented. We shared an appetizer of Prawns Salad and Smoked Salmon, my husband ordered the Parmesan crusted salmon which was cooked to perfection and melted in your mouth, and I had the Spinach, Asparagus and Pea risotto with shavings of Parmesan, equally flavourful. All their wines are available by the glass.

I had lunch with a friend at the outside area near the river, which is one of the best features of this pub. She ordered the salmon with butter and lemon sauce which was very good. However, I was disappointed with my burger. The beef meat was overcooked and dry, the bun was also dry, and the burger was hard to bite into and gooey. Very good service, everyone was lovely.

I'm sorry to say but what an absolute rip off. It took 50 minutes of waiting between the starter and main. UPDATE.. we were never told of such a long wait at all or we wouldn't have ate with two children. Also, tell who? Noone checked on us in the meal and we couldn't get anyone's attention for further assistance. A refund would have been appreciated as was simply awful to be honest and we did voice we weren't happy and just got sorry as staff ran off. Didn't get chance to speak! I reused my starter fork for my mains as it was that difficult to get assistance. Thankyou for the apology and I think the photos clearly evidentiate my points. The starter sharing feta flatbread was good but we had 0 napkins, given no plates and it was overpriced. However it WAS tasty and it didn't arrive 15 minutes after ordering. After waiting 40 minutes, we asked where our food was as noone really gave any attention to tables outside despite the cost to eat there, the response was "5 minutes". 10 minutes later our food arrived. And omg, the most basic small and boring salad came, we added vegan meat balls but it was unseasoned leaves and unsauced dry meatballs thrown on for £18 it wasn't even worth 10!!!!! The kids ate pizza which only one enjoyed and I ended up eating whilst they had my special mushroom pasta that was just water for sauce. Ironically it was good to soak awful dry unseasonal meatballs in or drink which didn't seem appropriate to do ! Just ripped off with overpiced bad food because of location AND SERVICE WAS AWFUL. We grabbed a stand on ordering with only 1 napkin in and no alternative. Used stands were put next to the outside.bar a refilled eith napkins without removing cutlery left between uses. Servers ran off before I could ask for more and all 4 of us were disappointed. £80 of disappointment and a worse salad than weatherspoons. No real apology and the sauce on the pasta was as thick as water and of course the mushroom pasta was lacking mushrooms. I Feel robbed and we now need to find food as the salad was a poor handful of unfilling plain leaves. I said it was poor service as took ages yet they just said sorry walking off. Noone cared and we left. Gutted absolutely gutted. Just avoid.

we ate here on a tuesday evening in august, and it was great! the location is conveniently right next to an okay-priced public car park, which was almost empty when we visited. the woodyard is immaculate and well-decorated, and whilst not busy when we visited it had a friendly, lively atmosphere. every member of staff we encountered was smiley, helpful, and eager to help. the portions were huge, and alcohol reasonably priced. a slightly more expensive than average restaurant serving delicious food (i had the fig/prosciutto pizza, which was excellent! and my boyfriend had the risotto, which he gave a raving review). overall would come again!

A fantastic place next to the river and pay and display car parks. Lots of seating inside and some tables outside. But I recommend you book as it was very busy, on a Saturday evening, we just managed to book a table in the dog friendly part at 8pm, that's booking the 2 days prior. Great food, very large portions. I had asparagus & pea risotto with coats cheese and it was delicious. My partner had vegan sausage and mash with vegan gravy and loved it. Definitely worth a visit. Next time we'll try the pizza's and a dessert.

My girlfriend and I went to this lovely restaurant today, the staff were absolutely lovely and incredibly accommodating, and the atmosphere inside was also nice and chill - no loud music or bright lights. The food was divine, we had the woodyard burger (recommend!), the 10oz gammon and the Parmesan fries. It was cooked to perfection and if I could have eaten any more, I think I would have been back for dinner! Next time we’re in the Peak District, we will definitely be back, I highly recommend this place.

We ordered small bites only, the chicken hot chilly bites and the feta watermelon salad as those are only ones almost without wine or beer, they were good, the fries came nice, hot, crispy and yummy, the place inside is cosy but we would prefer beautiful outer seating which was closed due to rain

Best Indian meal we’ve had in a long time! We shared onion bhajis (stunning and really creamy) my husband had fish masala and I had garlic mushrooms…wow best thing Iv tasted in ages. I had the lamb tikka masala & my husband had the sizzling meat platter.we shared chips & a garlic naan. Everything was amazing & the staff couldn’t do enough for you. Next time we’re in Bakewell we will definitely be returning. just a shame they don’t do delivery to Sheffield! :-)

Took away a great Indian meal. Everything was on point and very delicious. Good portions too. Great to find a local restaurant like this in a place like Bakewell.

Unfortunately it seems many decent Bakewell based restaurants close after lunch and do not open until 6:30/7pm. My wife and I needed to be at a show for 7:30pm so we searched for somewhere that could do a 5pm sitting and we settled on here (booked well in advance) as us Brummies love a curry. Unfortunately, us Brummies also really know our curries and whereas this wasn't bad, it didn't quite hit the mark. The food was very much 'ok', the Garlic Chilli Chicken had no hit to it at all, yet my wife's vegetable Balti was unexpectedly spicy for her. When she requested some yoghurt she got a look like she had personally insulted the waiter. On that point the service was mixed. The gentleman who greeted us was most put out (as we entered the empty restaurant as it only opened 30 minutes prior) that our advance booking of 2 people had now changed to 'maybe 3', and that the third person would only be popping in for a quick drink with us as we ate our meals as he was performing at the Town Hall (the show we were were attending). As we ate several members of staff / owners looked on from an awkward distance, which wasn't great. We did not finish much of our food and whilst waiting for the bill, we continued to chat between us while we finished our drinks. A gentlemen (perhaps the owner) then came over and asked us to move off the table (before we had paid) as it was needed for others (the place was half empty at this point) and we were instructed to sit with those picking up takeaways. It was all just a bit insensitive and blunt and we shall not return. Not terrible, but just a bit meh.

Complete letdown. After waiting a long time for a table and then again for our food, the dishes finally arrived, but it was incredibly greasy and the meat was of very poor quality. I had a bad stomach for a full 24 hours afterwards. To top it all off, an automatic service charge was added to the bill despite the terrible. I definitely cannot recommend this place.
Rick G — Google review
Meh! It was ok, not the best and not the worst but definitely the most oil I've ever seen sitting on top of a curry. The Bombay Aloo was very tasty and the rice was really nice, but the curries were pretty average and greasy.

Visited Rajas today for our anniversary (23/08/25) the staff are very friendly and really nice. Attended to our every need. The food was absolutely lovely and generous portions. Would definitely recommend a visit.

Meal was okay. Nothing out of the ordinary. The staff are very annoying pacing around watching if you are finished. Never had to pay for pickle selection in any Indian resterant before. No complementary drink after meal. But soon put the card machine in front of me . £100 pounds for ordinary meal in one beer and one glass of wine. Sorry won't go back

Interesting food serving, delicious food, especially enjoyed apple strudel. Coffee is not too good, but still going to give 5 stars. On busy street it is really nicely located in a quiet corner.

We have been coming here on and off over the last 10years. Today was one of those days, we noticed a little change on entering, we sat up stairs & the heart has been ripped out of the place. Service was slow , but girls doing best. Shame, it was such a unique place ..., now trying to be a regular coffee shop, if its not broke, dont fix it. Husband is gutted!

The Lavender Tea Rooms in Bakewell, located in a charming courtyard setting, is a popular spot for indulging in delightful afternoon teas. The upstairs dining area offers a bustling courtyard view where guests can savor Traditional, Deluxe, Vegetarian and Vegan afternoon teas served on traditional tiered stands. The tea room also offers homemade cakes and more substantial meal options like Welsh rarebit, fishcakes, and omelettes.
The young man who served us was brilliant. We needed GF food. He explained everything, said it was prepped in a different area etc. The pot of tea I had was plenty ful (3 cups), the GF scones with jam and cream were fresh out of the oven, warm and delicious. A brilliant little hidden gem. We will definitely be returning.

I had an absolutely delightful visit to Lavender Tea Rooms in Bakewell. The cozy, charming atmosphere made it the perfect place to relax and enjoy some quality time. The staff were warm, friendly, and attentive, making us feel right at home. The tea selection was fantastic, and I particularly loved their lavender-infused tea—so calming and flavorful. The homemade scones and cakes were simply delicious, and beautifully presented. Everything tasted fresh and made with care. Bakewell tart was quite nice and overall a lovely tea room. Shame they didn't have any loose teas, but the atmosphere and great location made up for it.

This has to be the best place I've been to for afternoon tea. The sandwiches were delicious, and we had 8 fingers sandwiches each. which is double what you get anywhere else. All of them were on bloomer bread and cut like door steps with plenty of filling. Then there were the 4 cakes each, and they were all really nice. Last but certainly not least there was the scones, huge, light and fluffy. I would highly recommend and will definitely be going back. Oh and we had a doggy bag as we couldn't eat it all. They provided us with a box to take home.

A hidden gem. This stylish little cafe/tearoom is excellent, located in Hebden court, off Matlock st in the lovely town of Bakewell. Great quality coffee & food, my wife & I had a tuna/mayo sandwich, served with dressed salad leaves & crisps, absolutely lovely fresh food. Friendly staff & great service. I thoroughly recommend a visit to this excellent tearoom.

My experience was discussing, The food and service was fine. I had had my bag under by my feet. When we finished we left. Wasn’t till we got on the bus realised my bag had been chewed, it must have been a mouse or a rat. The thought of it sends shivers down my spine to think when we have been eating something was chewing my hand bag.

Went in today. Nice to get straight to the bar without it being crazy busy like in the summer. Friendly staff at the bar. Nice to get local 'Peak ales'. Bakewell best, Summer sovereign & Swift nick all very good beers. Not eaten here ourselves yet, but the food coming out from the kitchen looked good. Not stayed over, but we don't live that far away so can't comment on the rooms

Called in for a beer whilst having a lovely day in this beautiful town , went to the bar and waited for 10 mins at the bar as a young lad had said I was ok to wait there , a miserable woman behind the bar ,when I asked why others were getting served before me , said get in the que , with a tone of voice like I was a begger not a customer, we walked out and went next door and was greeted with a smiling face and great service , will definitely not be going again , it costs nothing to be polite after so many pubs lose there business from losing punters, just add ,the reply i got was another blame deflection , read all the owners replys !!! Always the Customer !! Never the owner !!

Brilliant pub! Always a good pit stop when in Bakewell. The whole family visited last weekend and it was simply amazing. The service, the food and everything. Thank you. And also a mention to Henry! He’s a credit to you.

Nice room however my toilet backed up into the shower! It was dreadful! Some other people said the same so it wasn't just me! It really smelt! I did mention it to the owner on booking.com but haven't heard back. Reading some of the comments and the responses to the bad ones are quite shocking. So I don't expect my issue to be looked into. Re the comments, I didn't mention it as we arrived late and left at 6am. So no one was around once I had a shower in the morning. Also the other rooms were friends of mine hence why I know I wasn't alone. I messaged the booking.com messaging system in the morning to let you know as I had no other way of contacting you and I booked through that system.

Came here for dinner and ordered chicken strips and fried seafood. Nothing stands out from the food, it certainly came from frozen meats. However, the portion and the price were fair. The location was close to my Airbnb. It was just around the corner of the Bakewell town center.

Manchester Airport

International airport
Airport
Manchester Airport (MAN) is a bustling 3-terminal airport with national rail connections and flights to various destinations worldwide. It offers a range of facilities including shops, self-check-in kiosks, and parking spaces, although parking can be pricey. The airport provides quick check-in procedures and an array of dining and shopping options. While it may lack some staff for inquiries, the new Terminal 3 has improved convenience and reduced queues compared to other terminals.
Passport control has been massively improved since my last international trip a few years ago. The flight arrived early, we got through passport control super quick and my baggage only took 15-20 mins to show up on the carousel. Express pickup area was convenient and made it easy to get the Uber.
Baz P — Google review
It was a great Airport especially Terminal 2! The interior design was great and it was fascinating to be there. The only problem is that when I was collecting my luggage they would only send out 2-3 luggage every few minutes or so and that nearly made me miss my train! Great experience though.
Fabio S — Google review
Came on a train four hours before the flight so no rush. I had to walk to Terminal 3 but the signs were clearly displayed so it was easy to follow. Used toilets twice and although both were reasonably clean, it was smelling really bad in one of them. Waiting area after the security check was packed, so I had to wander for a few minutes to find a seat with enough personal space around me. Plenty of places to eat and drink.
Vintage K — Google review
Arrived at Manchester Airport with time to spare — parking was easy to find and clearly signed. Check-in was smooth, and the staff were helpful and polite. Security took around 20 minutes, which felt reasonable for a busy weekday morning. Once through, Terminal 2 was bright, clean, and full of decent food and coffee spots. Grabbed a quick bite and found plenty of seating near the gate. Boarding was well-organised, and staff kept things moving without fuss. Overall, a solid travel experience — efficient, comfortable, and much improved from a few years ago. Just arrive early, especially during peak times, and you’ll be fine.

I am an autistic lad who struggles with airport security. But, I will always recommend anyone to Manchester Airport! I have travelled through this airport 3 times. All 3 times, my experience has been spot on. The staff at the special assistance desks are super friendly. The security staff are exceptionally patient, especially if you are wearing the sunflower lanyard which the airport provide! It's brilliant that the lanyard is recognised on both departures and arrivals. I am going to The Netherlands again in July next year, and I will definitely looking at flights via Manchester for a 4th time.
Oliver E — Google review
Nice, clean airport. Everything was well marked, I had no problems with orientation. All checks went quickly and without problems. Plenty of places to sit, relax, cafes, restaurants. At the airport, the staff was happy to help with navigation or buying a tram ticket.
Ladislav H — Google review
Much better experience now. Modern contemporary feel inside with self check in machines. Prayer room has changed location and is a good size.
EI L — Google review
It’s a good airport. Modern. Well appointed. Good facilities and amenities. Not much in departures before security. There is a WH Smith and a Starbucks. Protip: nowhere to sit in departures really so might not want to arrive too early. Can sit on the cement blocks outside if the weathers ok. After security the Duty Free is epic. The eatery options decent. Seating options are significantly better. Adequate. Another Protip: Boots is a really great store in my experience for travel amenities and snacks. Good variety of options and so many of the things you may be looking for at a reasonable price.

Leeds Bradford Airport

Airport
Leeds Bradford Airport is an international airport conveniently served by buses from Leeds, Bradford, Harrogate, and other regional points. It's located near major roads such as the M6, A66, A1, A65, and A59. The airport offers clean facilities with friendly staff and a smooth check-in process. There are various shops and dining options available in the terminal. Although it's a small airport with limited destinations, it provides efficient services for travelers.
The six eight one lounge Seen a lot of negative reviews regarding the new lounge, so was apprehensive when I had already booked it. But honestly me and my dad had no issues, the food was really nice and could have 4 alcoholic drinks each, which for us is plenty before a flight, was the view the best ?? Probably not, and the price ?? Also maybe not, but when is stepped out to go to the gate and I saw how busy the airport was I was happy to have been in the lounge where it was quieter, plenty of seating and not crowded, so yes I would probably book the facility again.
Charlotte R — Google review
Contrary to the other reviews we had a solid experience flying out from this airport, where security lines were easy to find from the staff's guidance! Did not take long and trays go through the conveyor belts quickly, getting around the airport areas is quick on escalators and stairs. Departure boards kept us updated for flight status, waiting areas have plenty of seating and points to charge our phones. Walkway to the flight boarding has lots of windows giving views to outside and shuttle bus took us efficiently to our flight, one problem is the Gregg's is not in the airport so be aware you need to go there pre-security.
K. P — Google review
I have flown from Leeds a couple of times and always found it ok, but I was there today to pick my daughter and her friend up. There is no arrivals lounge. There is currently a massive renovation going on. The arrivals pick up area is outside next to a dirty grotty smoking shelter. There is no way to access any information about the arrivals. No information screens, no staff, no shelter and no views of the planes so no way to know if the flight has arrived. There is one hour free parking, but if you go over that hour it's a £68 charge. I almost left to go and move the car to avoid the astronomic charge. Stood in the rain for 30 mins waiting with my younger daughter. Even the smoking shelter had a missing roof. So anyone going to pick up a family member or friend. Wrap up warm, take an umbrella and check the flight times on your phone.

Visited for the first time recently and had a really positive experience. Paid for the parking, and caught a shuttle bus to the airport, again, really easy to use and follow (remember your route number). Once inside the airport all staff I dealt with were really friendly and helpful. Because its quite small its easy to navigate to where you need to be. On returning, it was easy to catch a shuttle bus back to the parked car. The barriers lifted for me no problem, and I don't have a wrong word to say. I will definitely return, and pay for the parking again. Good experience.
Claire — Google review
Getting to this airport already felt unusual. The road leading there is a small country lane, and for much of the drive I honestly thought I was heading to the wrong place. The airport appears suddenly, almost out of nowhere, which already gives a strange first impression. Once I arrived, things only became more chaotic. I travel often, and I have never experienced having to wait outside the airport just to get inside the building. The queue lasted more than an hour, which is completely unacceptable for any airport. Passengers with larger luggage had it even worse, because they had to queue twice: first to drop off their big suitcase, and then again to pass through the gates. There was also no clear organisation between priority and non-priority passengers. Everyone was mixed together in the same lines, so paying extra for priority meant nothing at all. The only positive part of my experience was a member of staff who tried to help people with flights leaving soon by moving them ahead in the queue. That effort was appreciated, but it was not enough to make up for the overall mess. Inside, the airport was no better. It felt dirty, neglected, and poorly managed. Fortunately, the weather was good that day, because standing outside in the rain or in strong heat for over an hour would have been unbearable. Overall, the experience was stressful, disorganised, and far below the standards travellers should expect. This airport leaves a very negative impression from start to finish.

Review for the new 681 Lounge. We made use of the old 1432 Runway Lounge on many occasions and were excited to try the new offering. Having paid £54 each a few months previously we were disappointed to be offered a price of £39 by email 22 hours before departure. Of course we could not cancel the booking. On to the lounge… The drink offering is worse. You are restricted in what drinks you can get, and how many. The food offering is better, very nice buffet style, but no table service. The runway view is an absolute joke. Instead of watching the airport you get a view of the car park (see photo) All in all, a worse service for a higher price. BTW after complaining LBA did refund the difference in price
David H — Google review
One of the more popular airports in the North of England, but still feels quite small and occasionally disorganised—especially during busy times. Security queues can be long, with only two lanes operating unless you’ve booked fast track. It’s particularly chaotic when multiple flights are checking in at once. That said, it’s convenient and easy to get to, and much simpler than going all the way to Manchester. The meet-and-greet zone is right by the entrance, but it’s steep at £7 just to stop for a couple of minutes. There’s a free one-hour parking option further away, which is fine if you’re mobile, but may not suit everyone. The car rental centre is about a 10-minute walk, though there is a shuttle bus—I usually walk through the car parks unless it’s raining. They’re currently expanding the terminal with a new section that includes restaurants and lounges (including a Burger King), which is a nice improvement. All in all, not the most polished airport experience, but it’s local and convenient for me, and I’d still choose it over Manchester. Flying out of London is smoother overall—but for northern travel, LBA does the job.
Samantha G — Google review
There are no signs in regards carrying liquids through to airside. When you hit security (what a farce), there's only one lane open. Security told us, even though they have the new scanners, they are no longer allowed to use them to their full extent. Despite the Web page saying different This was the only human interaction we had. So sad everything is automated. We did manage to find a free washer fountain. Just before duty free. There is a lot of construction going on.

Birmingham Airport

International airport
Airport
Birmingham Airport, established in the 1980s, boasts strong local and long-distance bus connections as well as its own train station. It is conveniently located in the heart of Birmingham. The area offers a variety of family-friendly activities including children's clubs, play areas, museums, nature spots, and entertainment venues. Additionally, there are numerous dining options such as Dirty Martini which provides a cozy atmosphere and serves food along with an extensive selection of liquors.
Hello pretty much, I had a great experience taking my flight from Birmingham airport to Perpignan yesterday ! I arrived at the airport around 11:30am and my flight was at 1:40pm. I never came to this airport before but I didn’t struggle at all to find where I had to go for the departures place. The security was easy to find and everyone was pretty kind with me there, explaining everything and helping me whenever I needed. After security, waiting for my plane I had access to a huge commercial place. We can buy a lot of different things you can see on the photos and we can eat pretty much everything. Such a good idea ! I had to wait 1 hour and a half but it was so quick with all of these things to wait. Thank you Birmingham and United Kingdom for this beautiful Airport ✈️🛩️

Great place. Perfectly located airport. 15 minutes and I am there. No traffic. Great parking. Great short term pick up/drop off zone. After renovation - looks amazing. Very good security check system. Even when it looks that it is a looooooot of people you go smoothly. Perfect for travellers who are annoyed with queues. After renovation I have never bought fast track in this airport

This was a great airport to fly out from, connected with the train station by a people mover cable car type system! Electronic departure boards and boarding gate signage is frequent to help navigate around, water refillable points can be found across the airport too. Seating is comfy for sitting back on or some for lying down, toilets are kept clean themselves. Designs like the pattern on the wall showing a steam train running to the end are innovative and queuing system for the flight was efficient where we walked straight there, security went fine although we were told not to take pictures in the baggage area maybe due to the possibility of any breaches.

Birmingham Airport is a convenient and well-connected hub that generally offers a smooth travel experience. Its compact layout makes navigation easy. Public transport links are strong, with the Air-Rail link providing quick access to Birmingham International Station. There are plenty parking options and shuttle services. Security can get busy during peak times, but staff are usually efficient and keep queues moving. Once airside, the terminal is small and has a good mix of shops, cafés, and restaurants, though seating can be limited during busy periods. Cleanliness is generally good. Overall, Birmingham Airport is not the largest or flashiest, but it delivers a reliable experience and is ideal for both short-haul and holiday travel.
Bharat D — Google review
Birmingham Airport prioritizes function over flair. The facilities are small and dated, with minimal shopping and dining options. It serves its primary purpose-getting you on your flight-but don't expect anything more.

Very low quality, one of the worst in the UK. Very slow services. After 23:30, no information desk. After 24:00 no transportation to the train station until the morning. My flight was delayed so I missed the train and I spent all night at the airport. No place to sit apart from the floor. Toilets filthy. No signs to find access to the coach.

Be careful with Ryanair flights. If you go to eastern europe they will send you to wait on the stairs in the basement even if you have priority and children. Because hey you are not travelling to their favourite countries so be prepared to wait in the basement! Again no facilities, everything under construction and rude customer service. Terrible Airport.

5 stars for the airport. UNFORTUNATELY THIS IS ABOUT AN IGNORANT DRIVER. Didn't get to know which company he works for. I've been going to the airport for five years now, the airport can be really busy and not space to pick up customer, but always the drivers respect another. But this one! Because you are driving a BMW you think you can do what you want ?? I've never encountered such arrogance as this driver. He parked behind my car so close, I can say it hit me. When I told him that I can't open the car to take the cases out, he was laughing at me like a teenager. And his rude 80-year-old customer, who couldn't walk, said where is the problem. Everyone knows we have certain time to go in and out and if it is longer the parking cost is going up. Will you pay for my parking? Dear driver, use your brain when you are driving!!! Thanks
