Visitor Centers
Puzzlewood is a natural woodland with raised walkways and family entertainment options. Nearby, Clearwell Caves offer insights into the mining techniques that shaped Puzzlewood, with active extraction of rare ochre pigments available for purchase. The Secret Forest, located across the road from Clearwell Caves, features similar rock formations to those at Puzzlewood and an Iron Age replica roundhouse village.
What a beautiful forest walk! This place is a gem. The paths are easy to navigate, and the scenery is just stunning. Perfect for a peaceful escape and some fresh air. You won't be disappointed!. If you're looking to disconnect and immerse yourself in nature, this forest walk is perfect. The tranquility here is amazing - it's so easy to just breathe deeply and enjoy the beauty all around you. The trees are magnificent, and the pathways are lovely for a leisurely stroll. I left feeling completely refreshed and revitalized.

This is a must visit in the UK. So peaceful and calm. There is ample space to park your car. You will have to have a look at the photos for you to get a glimpse of what you will experience, if you happen to plan a trip. A small play area designed for toddlers and also a range of farm animals, your toddler will be excited to see these. Some outdoor play facilities have been arranged as well.
Thushti S — Google review
Dropping a star because the booking info wasn't clear.. Given two booking times, 10am and 2pm.. it's not explained until after you've booked that it's "any time from 10am..." Plus.. it is a little pricey when you can access other parts of the forest for free.. BUT... It is like stepping into another world. The forest is magical. Even with other people there, it was quiet and beautiful. Lots of places to sit and enjoy nature. Steps are a little slippery so wear good shoes. There's also some farm animals to look at and an indoor and outdoor play area. Gift shop shuts at 5pm though the actual place shuts at 6pm.. something to keep in mind if you're saving your gift purchases until the end.

We spent a wonderful morning in this enchanting, magical forest. We wandered through there for about 3 hours, trying to make sure we didn't miss any of it, and back tracking to see views from different directions. We were lucky to go on a day with some sunshine, the sun light light hitting the mossy trees and lighting them up was just beautiful. Good facilities too, and friendly staff.
Karen ( — Google review
Our visit to Puzzlewood was an absolute delight, perfectly timed for a crisp, sunny day. While the sun was shining brightly in the clear blue sky, the moment we stepped under the dense canopy of ancient trees, a cool and refreshing atmosphere enveloped us. This was a welcome relief, making the walk an absolute pleasure without the oppressive heat. The gnarled trees, moss-covered rocks, and twisting pathways created a truly magical, otherworldly feel. It's easy to see why it has served as a filming location for so many fantasy productions. The air was fresh, and the dappled light filtering through the leaves created stunning photo opportunities at every turn. It felt like stepping into a fairytale. We spent a wonderful couple of hours getting lost among the roots and crevices. A genuinely enchanting experience. Outstanding area worth visiting, gift shop, toilets, food, drinks available and a picnic area.
Emily — Google review
Please be aware , wear proper shoes, non slip and waterproof. A lot of mud, slippery, very slippery, and around 300+ stairs up and down, made out of wood and solid rocks. Beautiful views and there is a picnic area as well, enough for 100+people You can buy tickets on the spot. Just £9.90 The walk, depending of how you're moving around, it's about 2 hours, so you can enjoy the views. You can stay as long as you want, there are benches all over the place, made it off wood of course. Enjoy😊
Florin S — Google review
The most stunning place. Very picturesque everywhere you look. But very slippery when it's raining. Make sure of good footwear.
Gaynor E — Google review
Gorgeous forest! I did feel let down that you have to pay to enter such a beautiful natural spot and of course I would have loved it to be bigger and to have gotten lost for considerably longer than we did. But even at the smaller scale that it is it really is quite stunning.

Explore the underground wonders of Clearwell Caves, an ancient mine system with passageways and galleries dating back 4,500 years. Delve into the fascinating history of this natural cave complex, once used for mining ochre and iron ore. Discover the challenging conditions faced by young miners as you marvel at stunning rock formations and colorful caverns illuminated by lights. For a more adventurous experience, consider booking a caving tour to explore deeper into the caverns.
I didn’t really know what to expect because it was something my Husband wanted to see and I didn’t know a thing about it apart from the fact that there was some sculptures inside. I was positively surprised! The visit was amazing because it was during a hot day and the caves are really cool. So it was pleasant! But also the caves are really beautiful and the sculptures is adding more fun to the visit. I really had a nice time and spent around 1h30 but I took my time. It was a magical experience!
Melanie M — Google review
Nice caves but not much geological structures to see. The main attraction of the cave was actually the art trail inside it with a few sculptures to be found and learn more about them. Free parking available on site. Facilities were ok with a cafe and toilets available.
Ivo M — Google review
Interesting experience and nice to do on a hot day as the caves are 10c. The sculptures are pleasant but I found the mines and history more engaging. The cafe is nice and had a good selection of drinks and cakes including a few Gluten free cakes.
Simon G — Google review
Brilliant caves and even more special with the sculpture exhibition that’s on this summer. Visited in summer holidays on a wet morning, with two children (ages 8 and 9). We all enjoyed the experience and would highly recommend! It was quite busy, but we hadn’t booked in advance and were allowed in straight away. Free parking, there’s also a cafe on site but we didn’t visit it ourselves.
Gemma H — Google review
Always visit the caves whenever we are in the area. Enjoyed the sculpture exhibition - a unique art gallery underground! However, I do feel that this took a lot away from the actual caves/mines and there seemed to be less info about them than I remember previously so I wonder if plaques had been removed or hidden for the exhibition. Still an enjoyable visit.
Clare P — Google review
We enjoy a decent visit to some caves and Clearwell Caves was no exception. The caves themselves are brilliant. A good bit of history to check out at the start of the tour. They also have some exhibitions in the caves which were really good. This was better than I expected
RB L — Google review
I went to see the sculpture exhibition. Whoever had the idea of getting all those beautiful pieces together was a genius as I would not have visited otherwise. There are over 70 peices large and small all beautifully lit. I really enjoyed the opportunity of going into the caverns and even without the sculptures this would have been a fascinating experience. Staff are friendly and the cafe is excellent serving sandwiches and cakes in a lovely setting inside and out.
Alison M — Google review
This was the most unique art gallery I have ever been in. I would say it’s a must see, even children 5 and up on my opinion would enjoy it. Most of my explorations were done on my own with no other visitors. It is a little dark with the exhibitions spot lit. If you are claustrophobic you might have a hard time. It took me about 2 hours to explore, you should also wear good shoes here. I enjoyed the museum that talked about ochre and ore mining, and likes that many of the sculptures were metal. I really enjoyed the exhibition and would definitely go again. There is a cafe, and games as well as toilets. There is an outside sitting area with a semi adventure playground. I loved it, but I also loved that here the staff say #sconeAsingone. Nice to meet you Jonathan and Sue!

Forest Deli is a charming local spot in the Forest of Dean, offering a delightful selection of delicious local products. Visitors can enjoy browsing through the deli section, which boasts an array of cheeses, sausages, and homemade pate. The friendly staff are more than happy to assist in creating custom hampers filled with delectable treats like mead, gin, crackers, pickles, and more.
A lovely local deli! I love this shop! Great selection of everything you would expect in a deli. Some lovely cheeses, pickles, pates, beers, ales etc. Staff and owners are great people and know their stuff. (And the wild boar scotch egg is absolutely amazing!!)

Great little shop. We were staying near the area for a few days and had been given some very nice shortbread so decided to find the Forest Deli to buy more, along with a few delicious items. Lovely customer service. Definitely pop in if in Coleford.
Hayley B — Google review
We recently attended a wine and cheese evening with the Forest Deli. It was well organised evening with great cheese and wine combinations, some that I would have definitely not gave matched together previously....but they have completely changed my mind. I also love the shop and the local products, the staff are always very friendly and helpful and have never been disappointed with anything that I have purchased here. I would highly recommend:)

What an utter gem of a place! We went here for the Saturday afternoon Cheese and Beer experience and it was incredible. Great food, great service, great setting and above all great value. The owners were very welcoming and friendly, and couldn't do enough to make sure we enjoyed our time there. We'll definitely be returning when we're next in the area. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

Great selection of delicious localities. The staff was very friendly and helpful. They put together a hamper based on our budget, which was presented very nicely. Definitely recommend the boar salami and their homemade pate. Made for a great stop on our holiday.

Forest of Dean

Woods
Nestled in the west of Gloucestershire, the Forest of Dean is a vast expanse of ancient woodland covering 11,000 hectares. This royal hunting ground has retained much of its untouched wilderness since before the Norman Conquest. Visitors can engage in various outdoor activities such as rock climbing, long-distance hikes, and exploring historic sites like Tintern Abbey on the Welsh bank of River Wye. The area also offers opportunities to discover traces of forgotten mining activity within the forest.
This place absolutely amazing well looked after, the forest was used as a backdrop in many movies such as Harry Potter and King Arthur… it is believed to be the inspiration behind lord of the ring’s forest

A great place to relax and to walk, we been to the sculpture park, did the round walk and it was quite good. Very relaxing, if you do not see anyone, quiet, lots of birdsong. Some path a wee bit muddy, mostly gravelpath. Some sculptures were really good, some not, but that's my view. One in particular, the cathedral glass window is amazing!!! There is plenty to do for kids at beechenhurst, coffee place was well stocked with food and staff friendly.Plsnty of parking spaces. We did had a grand day out....

Perrygrove Railway Adventure is a family-friendly destination featuring steam train and footplate rides, treetop and indoor play areas, as well as woodland walks. The attraction offers round trip train journeys through the Forest of Dean, with special picnic zones for families to enjoy. Children can explore outdoor play areas such as Twilight Village and Foxy Hollow, or venture into the forest canopy at Treetop Adventure.
Lovely day out with the kids! Lots of outdoor play areas, picnic areas, a train to ride - and an indoor play village full of secret crawl spaces! Kids can see into the cafe from the play village which they absolutely love. Fun time had by all! Just keep in mind - the only toilets are by the entrance, so use the loo before taking the train to the top park! Quite a trek / long wait for the train for little bladders!
Hannah-lyz R — Google review
The Perrygrove railway adventure was such a cute addition to my daughter's second birthday trip. We hopped onto a vintage steam train that took us to a play area. The play area was a hit with our toddler. She enjoyed it thoroughly and the miniature forest walks were worth it.
Thushti S — Google review
Perrygrove Railway Adventure is a nice place for a children and family day out. Here you'll find a nice cafe with a picnic area. There is also a children's play village next to the cafe. There are constant train rides you can pay for, it's around 20 minutes in total. Young children will definitely enjoy it. We came on a nice Summer's day which made it all the better.
Hamid M — Google review
Awsome famiely fun 😁 Arrival, easy to find, and well signed. Car park is large with some shaded areas, disabled parking at the front near entrance. Admission booth is easily accessible, toilets to the right of entrance accessible toilets and baby changeing available, these are the only toilets there are none around the play parks. Cafe is just on the right as you go in, prices are slightly high but passible. They have a wi ter and summer menu. Small seating area plenty of outdoor seating. Picnics are allowed to be taken onto site. There's some small battery-powered rides for the kids in the main train area. Tree top play park is fantastic. There's a bench to sit in the area, and this part is fully accessible to reach but not play. Woodland walk is beautiful, takes you to station platforms where you can catch the trains and also takes you to an open field where you can run around and picnic. There's also another play park , swings , slides, and a tunnel maze. All great fun, there's plenty of benches and shades in this area. Trains soooo much fun, the main one lasts 20mins and stops around the park there's accessible cabins for prams and wheelchairs etc there's plenty of shaded seating while waiting for the train Smaller train also running takes about 8 minutes lots of fun YOU CAN RIDE THE TRAINS AS MUCH AS YOU WANT. We chose different seating areas 🤣 It's great really good fun !! We got in half price as it was the teddies bears picnic but I'd be happy paying full price too if I'm honest , there's a family pass which is worth it too. Play parks are suitable for all ages.
Daniel L — Google review
Perrygrove Railway Adventure is such a lovely day out and has a really charming concept. The main highlight is the steam train that takes you around the park with several fun stops along the way. You can hop on and off as much as you like since unlimited train rides are included. Trains run every 30 minutes so you are never waiting long and each stop has something different to enjoy. The stations include Perrygrove, Oakiron, Rookwood and Foxy Hollow. Each one has its own attractions like picnic areas, playgrounds and walking trails. There are plenty of picnic tables at every stop so it is easy to bring your own food and make a day of it. The playgrounds are brilliant and well kept, and the jungle tree house is a real hit with the kids. The walking trails are great for stretching your legs and taking in the peaceful countryside. You can mix train rides with walks so the day never feels rushed. The staff are friendly and welcoming which adds to the warm atmosphere. It feels like a proper family run business where they care about visitors having a good time. Free parking is available which is always a bonus. Overall Perrygrove Railway Adventure is a great place for families. Whether you want to relax and ride the trains or explore the trails and playgrounds there is something for everyone.
Ayyub C — Google review
Our first visit in about 6 years now. In that time they have added a new tube maze which my kids enjoyed. There was also a new tractor ride area, but it was disappointing this wasn't working in the summer holidays. Reading other people's reviews on this place is assuming. People are under the odd assumption that it's a train for transport around the forest of dean. It is definitely not! 😂 It's a good place for young kids who like trains and want to experience short, novelty rides on them. The park areas are unique and could keep younger kid's entertained for hours. It's a nice half a day out, and can be paired with puzzlewood over the road if you're looking for a full family day out.
April M — Google review
We was with 7y old daughter and was very happy. We was on weekend and must wait 1 hour for available tickets. But area was lovely, staff very friendly. Train fantastic. Clean toilet. Nice cafe.
Anna L — Google review
Lovely day out, a steam train for kids and adults alike. Great site for the kids. Cafe on site, twilight area for younger children. Tree top spaces for the kids. Small walks also with a mini tractor bumper car area which you will need cash for, 50p. No contactless. Staff friendly enough but no instructions of how often the trains were etc, just find the que and wait. (It is roughly 30-45 mins in between the train loop) large car park, gravel and grass. To note the postcode on the website can send you behind the site, so ensure you use google maps prior as it is on the main road.b4228

Hiking Trails
The Forest of Dean Sculpture Trail is a serene woodland art trail that has been open since 1986, featuring 16 discreet sculptures inspired by nature. Just a short distance away, visitors can explore Clearwell Caves to learn about mining techniques and purchase rare ochre pigments. Another nearby attraction is The Secret Forest, which showcases rock formations similar to those at Puzzlewood and features an Iron Age replica roundhouse village.
Lovely trail. We have done this a couple of times. This time we were pushing a buggy around. Dog friendly, buggy friendly. There are some mediocre sculptures, but some fantastic ones as well. We were quite quick walking around and we did it in 3 hours. If you were taking your time, I would think it would take 4-5 hours to do the loop
Lisa P — Google review
A fantastic day out for the dogs/kids🐾 I paid £6.50 for 4 hours of parking on-site (plenty available). Access to the sculpture trail is free. I walked at a leisurely pace, stopping to admire some of the sculptures with a dog that loves to sniff and we completed it in about 2h15m so can be done quicker if necessary. Some of the sculptures require you to double back on yourself to complete the trail but it is faily easy to follow the arrows (see pictured or on map). Be sure to keep your head up & eyes peeled otherwise you may miss some! Hilly terrain, walking shoes recommended. The cafe at the start/end of the trail has toilets, drinking water and a place to stop for a drink afterwards. The only negative: the are no waste bins along the trail so be sure to have the means to carry your rubbish/dog waste with you until the end.
Allanah — Google review
If you’re looking for a place where your kids can run wild without breaking your furniture, the Forest of Dean is perfect. The trails are awesome, long enough to tire them out, but friendly enough that even little legs can conquer them. Picnic spots are scattered about, so you can unleash your snacks like a woodland feast, and yes, there’s actually good parking (a mythical British rarity). It’s beautiful, peaceful, and kid-friendly, which means adults can actually enjoy themselves too instead of just surviving the outing. Think of it as nature’s playground with just enough civilization to keep the parents sane. Highly recommend, you’ll leave with muddy shoes, tired children, and a weird urge to become a tree hugger.
Tynerboy — Google review
Great day out for couples, family and dogs. Parking is £5.50 for 3hours or can pay less or more, plenty of spaces. Cafe on site and clean toilets. There is no bins on site, only 2 dog bins at the start, there was a small amount of litter on the trail but overall unspoilt. The path is very well trodden and well kept but very slightly muddy and slippery at some points. Highly recommend going on a sunny autumn walk.
Sammy P — Google review
A nice easy walking route throughout the forest following the purple Sculpture trail arrors. The stained glass window at the end was beautiful. Paths are lovely and wide and well maintained. Might be difficult with a pushchair as it does slope here and there but an easy walking route without. Also offers a child friendly Stick Man route to follow if walking with young ones.
Carla B — Google review
It's a lovely spot, I didn't go so much as for the sculptures but rather a dog walk somewhere new. Parking plentiful, good value, I saw maybe 3-4 sculptures, quirky and odd, it is what it is. My biggest irk is that I had my head in my phone checking the bloody map to see where I was and if I was on the right track - there's plenty of short cuts and it's easy to get a bit disoriented half way round as there's plenty of other trails going off hither and tither. Bring water, and snacks as it's a fair old romp and be advised there's no poo bins on the trail so you'll be stuck with them.
Pierre N — Google review
Quite a long walk, precisely 9km 😳. Took 2 hours for the whole trail, quite long for just a walk. Not very many sculptures but the stained glass one was the best!!! Quite disappointing for a 2 hour walk because not many sculptures. Would except more to be added over the next couple of years. I would recommend if you would want to waste 2 hours of your life for barely any sculptures. Quite a relief when we saw the car! Overall, do the walk if you don’t care if you die of not hydrating yourself.
Foley M — Google review
I visited a few years ago and although finding the sculptures was fun the map and signage was woefully inadequate taking the fun off a lovely day. Roll on to the present day and nothing has changed. The map looks like a child’s crayon drawing and the only consistent signage is for a cycle route. This time the route was littered with fractious children and adults confused at every junction. How hard would it be to sign the way at junctions in a colour visible to all ages? This is such a wonderful trail despite many sculptures needing some TLC. Can someone not make it more user friendly?

Mines
Specialty Museums
Hopewell Colliery, located in the heart of the Forest of Dean, offers a unique opportunity to explore the area's freemining history. The working mine and visitor center provides guided underground tours led by experienced freeminers, allowing visitors to venture into tunnels dating back to the 1820s. During the 45-minute tour, participants can gain insight into the ancient tradition of free mining and learn about the distinctive lifestyle it has fostered.
Very fun and interesting tour of the coal mine in Hopewell. The guide was welcome and amazing in telling us about how mining works, I honestly was not well educated about it. My two boys also loved it, they were welcomed to ask any question and the explanations were very good. Highly recommend for anyone in the area.
Ido R — Google review
Hopewell Colliery is a fascinating place to visit for a couple of hours, with something for all ages. Our kids absolutely loved it. The history of the Free Miners within the Hundred of St Briavels is unique and really brought to life here. The underground tour was made extra special by our fantastic guide, who was a natural storyteller and kept everyone engaged from start to finish. A brilliant mix of history, heritage and hands-on experience - highly recommended!
Mark W — Google review
Brilliant visit on a rainy afternoon. With expert knowledge the tour guide shared his experience in an engaging way to suit both the adults and children in the group. We were kitted out and escorted down the mine shafts to the coal beds. (You need to be mobile enough to navigate the steep walk down and back up!). We were educated about the free miners and shown the traditional mining techniques. The tour was about an hour and well worth the modest fee ( £10 for adults). Fascinating stuff ! The cafe was also fabulous with generous portions and no excessive prices. Easy to park. Would definitely recommend!
Alison N — Google review
Fantastic experience visiting this coal mine in the Forest of Dean, the guide Rich was very informative and engaging. It was a wonderful insight to the history of free mining and the skills and knowledge that mining takes. Best to book in advance to avoid disappointment per some other reviews, we went early morning and ended up being the only people on the tour! You are provided with a helmet and lamp for your safety, I would recommend walking shoes/boots and a jumper! The café staff were also very welcoming and friendly, we didn't stay to eat as we had plans for after this visit though
Callum H — Google review
A great tour to see how a working mine is. For a modest £10, it's great value. If you tall, keep your head down, hit my head a couple of times, what the hard hat for! Well recommended.
Sven V — Google review
The tour was incredibly informative, we learnt a lot about free mining and the geology of the local area. Our tour guide was very welcoming and friendly. The cafe onsite was well worth a visit with loads of gluten free cake options which is usually a rear treat. Thanks for a lovely morning.
Jo E — Google review
If there were more stars ... excellent tour. Worth the £10, plus !!! Our guide, Rich, was friendly, informative and reassuring. Advertised as 45 mins, we were about an hour. Start with helmets/head torches. Wise to wear sturdy footwear. Little chat before setting off, then a steep walk down, with regular stops and chats. It's amazing history !! Lots of explanations about the access, the working conditions, the tools used and the locality 'free' mineral. Also an opportunity experience true darkness with headtorches off for a couple of minutes. Hand rails all the way, surprisingly easier hoping back up. Obviously fairly low roof, so walking with slightly bent neck. So much discussion, plenty of opportunity for questions - best £10 each we've spent for a long while !!! Loads of parking, no height barrier. Toilets in same site cafe. Little information hut with a potted history. Excellent Excellent tour/experience.

We arrived just as a storm had broken, the smells and sounds were incredible, barely anyone around until later on in the walk, signposted well so you can easily make your way around - we did the sculpture trail, didn’t have a map for it but that kind of make it exciting when we saw something we weren’t expecting to see.
Danielle A — Google review
A definite must if you’re in the area! There’s a few different trails around here but I did the sculpture trail which I would highly recommend. Took me about 2 1/2 hours and it’s really interesting to see all of the art work, whilst combining it with a fab ‘forest bathing’ walk. Plenty of parking (can pay by cash or ringo app), toilets, water fountain, picnic tables, and a cafe (unfortunately this was closed when I visited!)
Amy L — Google review
It's a BRILLIANT place for everyone of any age and abilities. There is a great café that serves food and snacks, coffees and a good range of tea, soft drinks etc. Staff are lovely and very helpful. Good loos and usually very clean. The trails, tracks are extensive and are accessible to very nearly everyone. It has a sculpture trail, which is updated regularly and has GO APE, for those with a head for heights. Plenty of parking and is a pay and display, machines are situated in a few key points. Do go and enjoy our forest, I'm sure you will love it! Sorry, nearly forgot. It's very dog friendly too!

Love this place. Good for the kids, the dogs…can’t go wrong. Food prices are…well…high. Icecreams, sandwiches, cake&biscuits, crisps, hot drinks, soft drinks, and chips (or atleast they did). But bring a picnic and what could be better? Alternatively, during certain times they have various food venders selling pizzas, drinks… Drinking water station for dogs attached to the main building (roughly behind the toilet area by the archway). Parking is payable in the archway (bear that in mind when parking as you could be in for a walk before you even begin).

Forest of Dean Cycle Centre

Cycling park
Outdoor Activities
The Forest of Dean Cycle Centre, located in the ancient Forest of Dean, offers a variety of cycling trails suitable for all ages and skill levels. Visitors can explore historic railway lines, enjoy downhill tracks with varying degrees of difficulty, and take leisurely rides along scenic routes like the nine-mile Colliers Trail. The area is known for its picturesque villages, cozy pubs, and stunning walks.
It was a sunny day so busy, but lovely cafe and so grateful for the cycle part they had in the shop which meant we could complete our day. We did the family friendly Colliers trail as oldies on electric bikes. So many people including small learner groups were having a great time on the trails.
Jan R — Google review
Absolutely love this place. The trails are brilliant and well managed, plus everything is well signposted along your travels on various routes. I know my limits, so stay well away from the double black runs, but thoroughly enjoy every other run that I can find (although we still can't find Elephant Man!). Managed everything up to Corkscrew so far. Only thing I would say is that the heavy braking zone on Launchpad is getting progressively more bumpy, to the point where it's almost uncomfortable for the kids so needs a bit of TLC! This place is so much better than some pay for trails you can go to! *Update* I forgot to mention that the signage also contains What Three Words locations, which I absolutely love. Any need for emergency services will get them straight to where they need to go

Great day at a very well run and maintained park. Everything you can need is here on site... Arrived at the car park which was very well signed and paying was easy. RingGo, cash and card payments accepted: £5/2hrs £7.50/4hrs £9/All Day. Toilets on site for men, women and baby changing facilities. Cycle shop for any last minute new parts, equipment or clothing. Trail pocket maps are available here for £3 and money goes towards the maintenance of the cycle park. Food shop available with hot and cold drinks along with hot and cold food, even ice-cream and fresh baked goodies. Indoor and outdoor door seating available. Free water for drinking from the fountain outside and even dog bowls here too. Places to spray wash your bike on those muddy days. At the pedalabikeaway shop you can rent bikes from hard tails to full suspension e-bikes, safety kit and water bottles even kids seats and trailer options available. There are on-site bike repair options for your own bike too. Staff here are very helpful and informative. See their website for booking ahead to avoid options not being available on the day. As for the biking itself there are multiple options from long cross country trails, blue and red with some technical areas within including up hill climbs. A dedicated e-bike uphill technical area. A pump track, easy and moderate skills areas to play or warm up on. Green trails for kids and new riders with some blue options thrown in to build yourself up to the main trails or downhill sections. The downhill areas have a dedicated push up path leading to the top and start of most of the trails and it is well signposted all the way. The downhill trails are all posted from start to finish and connect nicely, again sign posted at the start and finish of each trail. These range from Blue through to double black. Information boards at the top and bottom fully explain the technicalities of each colour and what to expect. The colliers yellow trail is an option to take a more relaxed ride through and around the forest with a bit of history and culture thrown in. Beautiful scenery to absorb too. The trail has some blue options along the way to give older kids and adults something extra to their gravel track ride. This route does involve a road cycling section but this is only along a long car park entrance and also one main road crossing. Everything is well maintained along all the trails thanks to the fabulous team and volunteers here. I had no issues in the 6 hrs I was there where I covered the green to red cross country routes and blue to black downhill sections, colliers trail, pump track and skills area, including new blue skill zones.

Coleford Great Western Railway Museum

Museum
Specialty Museums
The Coleford Great Western Railway Museum is located in the Forest of Dean, Gloucestershire, housed in an 1883 station building. It offers a glimpse into the history of the Great Western Railway with model steam locomotives and a working signal box. Visitors can also enjoy train rides at the nearby Dean Forest Railway and themed events such as Thomas the Tank Engine weekends. The museum provides an educational experience with knowledgeable volunteers offering tours of steam engine workings and hands-on demonstrations in the signal box.
A small museum run by people who clearly love the place and its exhibits to bits. Their enthusiasm is infectious! The guided tour we had of the train was brilliant, standing on the footplate and learning how it worked was a treat. Plus, the trip to the signal box was mind-bogglingly great. I just thought the signal man pulled a few levers to raise and lower a signal, but in reality, the signal box has a "mechanical brain", so it keeps drivers and passengers safe at all times. Getting to test the system out to prove how it worked was a lot of fun... (and I'm not a train buff or six and on a school trip. :) ) Recommended if you're passing through Coleford on a Friday or Saturday afternoon with an hour or two to spare... there's parking right outside the museum.
Colette H — Google review
Visited on Saturday the 5th July with our little boy who loves trains. Very friendly and informative gentlemen guided us around the different areas of the museum, they were a font of knowledge. We all learned a lot and would recommend railway enthusiasts to visit.
Daniel L — Google review
Absolutely brilliant, guys are full of information and provide a well thought out tour packed full of historical and operational explanations as to how the trains, tracks and associated infrastructure were made, maintained and operated. The little ones really enjoyed the train ride around the museum! Also a very helpful calm and patient bunch of guys. Thanks for making our day.

I had a lovely time at Coleford GWR Museum yesterday, looking at the exhibits and chatting with the staff there. I'm a volunteer at the Mid Hants Railway and they are both volunteers at the Dean Forest Railway, so it was interesting to compare notes on railway operations during the COVID-19 pandemic! I'd love to give more stars, but I feel there's a lot of work to be done. The volunteers I chatted to are aware of this, so it's no discredit to them. Given the fantastic location (both in terms of being so close to the town centre and being in such a wonderful original building), there's a great opportunity for a really accessible museum which tells the story of the railway and its relevance to the area to a wide audience. What they actually have is unquestionably an impressive collection - both in terms of its size and variety -, but much of it is chiefly interesting if you already know what you're looking at and what was used for. So much more could - and should - be done to explain these items in accessible terms. To transform this from a collection into a really good museum would, of course, be an enormous amount of work, and the volunteers here are obviously working with very limited resources. I hope they get some more volunteers and are able to keep heading in the right direction. Thank-you for an enjoyable visit. Keep up the good work!

This is our second forrest holiday. We love the relaxed atmosphere of the forrests. Staff always polite and helpful.
Stephen B — Google review
What an experience. I was not expecting an incredibly detailed guided tour that lasted over 2 hours. The wealth of knowledge and passion is amazing. There is so much to look at and take in, and it is like going into someone's private collection. As a railway fan I still learnt so much, and I think any established railway or engineering enthusiast would thoroughly enjoy this.
Tom O — Google review
Nice volunteer run museum. A small 7 1/4 train ride for the kids and my son loved the signal box, they let him operate the levers. You are probably going to be less than an hr, and bring cash, but if you are into your railways and in Coleford, not to be missed.
Scott R — Google review
This place is only open on Friday and Saturday's. It was closed when I visited, but that was fine as I only wanted to take photos of the signal box, and this was easy to do.

Restaurant
Kaplan's Cafe in Coleford is a delightful spot nestled in the picturesque Forest of Dean, making it an ideal pit stop for families and travelers alike. With its extensive children's menu and a variety of healthy options for adults, including fresh salads and low-fat meals, it's perfect for those looking to enjoy a wholesome dining experience. The cafe exudes a relaxed vibe with no pretensions, attracting many visitors who appreciate its well-priced offerings.
Friendly staff. They happily checked for me if they use the same oil for frying flesh and assured me they don't mix it with anything, they keep one fryer for chips only so they're vegan.
Ina V — Google review
An easy going cafe, that serves simple "grub" and their breakfast is a damned good buy - but if you're vegetarian/vegan, I'd give it a wide berth. A good selection of standard fayre that's "simple" - but well prepared, and tasty too. Nothing that we had was swimming in grease, and there wasn't even the sensation of fat or grease in our mouths. There is a wider selection of food, including pizzas, sandwiches, and even the grill (the mixed grill was REALLY tempting, but I stuck with the full English instead).

Fish and chips takeaway
The Al's Plaice takeaway is a top-quality restaurant with delicious fish and chips. It can be busy, but the staff are always polite and willing to help. The food is fresh and never disappointing.
Me and partner have recently moved to coleford and have visited on several occasions and generally had the cod bites meal it's always cooked fresh to order. Customer service is extremely good and you are kept informed the whole time while waiting for you food. Tonight my partner and daughter where out for dinner so I decided I would treat myself too I tried the chicken nuggets they were not like a nugget you get from that well know fast food chain. The chicken was so tender it melted in my mouth with crispy batter. Look forward to trying more of the menu

Amazing fish and chips! Everyone was so friendly and chatty. My partner is from Australia and had never had fish and chips before so he cooked everything fresh for us and even chucked in a load of freebies. We loved it!

Ordered online to collect as we were passing through to go to our campsite after a day out and when we arrived it was ready right on time, we drove a further 10 minutes parked up and got into the caravan and the food was still fresh and delicious. The staff were great, really polite and made the experience that much better.

Best fish and chips in the forest. Always a treat to have a meal from Al's Plaice, and we have had many a lovely meal from here when visiting my grandparents who lived nearby and particularly enjoyed the food. This evening we had a family gathering at my grandparents home after my grandfathers funeral and we placed a large order for collection. Once we got home whilst we were unpacking, the lovely staff realised before we did that a couple of items had been missed when we collected. They called to tell us and very kindly delivered the missing items to us. Always lovely service and delicious food from here, highly recommend.

Highly recommend Als plaice. First time having a gluten free takeaway and I can’t recommend this place enough. From the moment we walked in we was welcomed the owner even took the time to talk me through how everything gluten is kept separate, I can’t thank him enough for taking the time to do that. Husband loved the wrap meal and said it was the best thing, I highly recommend. Thank you.
Shannon B — Google review
Hopefully we just had a bad day for Al's. The fish was expensive, very small and dry, the chips soggy, the curry sauce lumpy, mushy peas were nice but missing one of the two pots we had paid for, so, that's annoying! On holiday so fortunately, there's no need for us to go back!
James G — Google review
Awesome chippy. Was a busy Saturday night but I appreciate the extra mile they went to for gluten free meal when their gluten free days are Tuesday and Wednesday. Great tasty meal. Will be returning again.

Quite possibly the best chicken nuggets I've ever had... especially, with the gravy. Everything was cooked fresh. If you're staying at Forest Holidays in the Forest of Dean, you have to try this fish and chip shop. Definitely worth a visit

Forest Hills Golf Club

Coffee shop
Nestled in the scenic Forest of Dean, Forest Hills Golf Club offers a charming setting for a romantic evening. Under new management, the clubhouse has been revamped and now hosts themed evenings with specialty chefs, ranging from casual fish and chip nights to exotic Thai-inspired menus. The bar menu also features homemade favorites for a more laid-back outing.
We stayed in the lodges that neighbour the holiday park and had pre booked a Saturday morning round, despite heavy rain on the Friday night the course was in great condition and a good test, the pro in the shop was really helpful and we had chance to chat to some members, the service in the clubhouse was great, we popped in Friday night for a drink and the ladies behind the bar were very friendly, to the point we decided to have sunday dinner at the club and thought the food and service were great. Would certainly come back as the course was impressive and everyone we met from members to staff were very welcoming!

Played as part of a club "awayday" in the middle of one of the heatwaves. Fairways were baked, fast & running. Greens were well watered but fast. Pretty much every fairway has slopes in it and, with the dry weather, l couldn't cope with them ! Good looking tee shots ended up running into trees, bunkers or hazards. A bit frustrating for me although others in our group recorded good stableford scores. Also, some of the directional signage from one green to the next tee (which was sometimes a good walk away) was poor. Did l enjoy it - not really. Would l go back - probably not.

Faultless! Great value for money, friendly helpful staff in the clubhouse and pro shop. Course in A1 condition. You won't be disappointed if you try it. Been 3 times already and booking to go again.
Pauline B — Google review
Quirky course relying on careful driver placement. Some holes would benefit from marker poles to indicate the driving line for visitors. The greens are very tricky, with most of them being crowded , meaning that there are few straight puts. The course is well-kept and worth a visit.

Forest Hills hosted the wake after my Mum's funeral. The room was beautifully presented and with vases of fresh flowers on each table. The buffet was excellent, and so many guests commented on how lovely the venue and food was. I would recommend Forest Hills as a venue for any function, nothing is too much trouble for them to provide. Will definitely be visiting soon for Sunday lunch as we've heard it's excellent.

We Loved this pub for its atmosphere, welcoming locals and management, a dog friendly pub with very well-behaved dogs, the owners too were on their best behaviour! Looked like a great selection of craft beers but have to say I was rather partial to the rhubarb cider. Patrons were even allowed to bring in their own or shop bought food to eat. A definite revisit should we be in the area again.

The Saracens Head Inn is a charming B&B located by the river, offering comfortable rooms with picturesque water views. Guests can enjoy a delicious hot breakfast and locally sourced dining options. The inn provides an ideal base for exploring the natural beauty of Symonds Yat, including opportunities for canoeing, kayaking, and paddleboarding along the River Wye.
Situated overlooking the river Rye with lovely views from the bar terrace. Access is via a single bridge and winding road, on which we encountered some deer on our journey back to the hotel on our first evening. We were warmly welcomed by all the staff, from reception, to bar and restaurant staff and cleaners. The (standard twin) room was compact but modern and simply decorated to high quality. Bathroom was nicely decorated with spacious shower and much appreciated fluffy towels. Everything was spotlessly clean. I mean really really clean! Good quality bedding and no noise from adjoining rooms helped make for a good nights sleep. Breakfast staff were great, prompt and friendly service. Breakfast was delicious; especially the bacon and poached eggs. Highly recommend the hotel and food. Many guests said they would definitely be returning.

I stayed here with my girlfriends for birthday celebrations and we had such a lovely time. We ate dinner on the Friday and Saturday in the restaurant and the food was delicious especially the burgers. Breakfast was delicious, I had scrambled egg and smoked salmon both days. The rooms were lovely. I think my only criticism was how hot my room was. We had to sleep with the patio doors open 😬 The staff were lovely and very accomodating. Perfect location 👌
Lynne S — Google review
Great location to spend a few days. Very busy in high season, but the staff was amazing and looked after us. Generous freshly cooked breakfast. Our room looked over the river. Noisy because of the many day-trip tourists but all quiet around 21.30 h. The river and its surroundings are beautiful. Many nice places to visit. Or just walk around the neighbourhood. It was our second time visiting Symonds Yat. We might go there again.

Just drove here for a pint. Location great BUT be warned you have to pay £5 to park for anything up to 4 hours, customers included!!! Husband went in to check that signage was right and say we just wanted one quick drink. He was told car park still had to be paid, even though it clearly wasn’t busy. It was a fair and narrow drive, out of our way, so think it’s worth warning others if you’re considering a pm pint. Now other side of river in Ye Old Ferry Inn, far more welcoming and lots of free parking, quite rightly, for customers - go there!

Excellent pub food. We called in after visiting Symonds Yat Rock, and were impressed with the quality of food and service. Only a small menu, but changes everyday, and had a few vegetarian options to choose from. The vegetarian mushroom burger was one of the best we'd ever tasted, and the chips were excellent.
Matthew W — Google review
We dropped in for dinner after a canoe trip down The Wye. The setting is beautiful and a great spot for a drink. However, £22 for a very average burger and chips is ridiculous. Being a bank holiday Sunday we didn't really have much of an option but to suck it up and pay the price. Had the prices been more reasonable we probably would have stuck around and had dessert and possibly a few more drinks. There was also a £5 charge for the car park, as you can only pay for the whole day, not necessarily the fault of the pub. In the end we ate and left, not feeling like we'd had good value for money.
James H — Google review
Not our first visit, such a great location right on the river. Had a lovely river walk and then stopped here for lunch just managing to grab the last outside table. Sadly the food wasn’t very good on this occasion although it came very quickly. I had the smashed burger but it was overcooked and also not very smashed. The Missus had the squid which was very greasy. Our friends had chicken and bacon sandwiches which looked a safer option. Will still come back if walking along the Wye just for the lovely ambience and views

came in for dinner, we booked in advance (as we had our dog with us and that was advised on the website) and came in right around 6 when they started serving food at 6. food came really quick and was all really delicious, amazing quality and clearly super fresh. Also ordered some ice cream/pudding which, again, was lovely. A couple things to note: was quite expensive as pubs go, and not all the serving sizes were very generous. + there was a sign directing you to a bar to order food at, but we had a couple of confused waiters come to us and ask if we’d ordered, please pick one! order at table or at bar.

My friends mum owns this shop He (Alfie) took me here It was delicious for local food (we also got to help get milk which was fun)

Highly recommended. We pre-booked for 6 for a birthday celebration. We were given a warm welcome by the very friendly, helpful staff who also went to the trouble to put up a birthday banner. Excellent afternoon teas.

Mum and dad want to say a massive thank you for the delicious birthday cake for our little man on his first birthday absolutely fantastic

Catered superbly for 7 cyclists turning up at 11am on Saturday, unanounced. Excellent selection of breakfast foods and some delicious cakes to boot. Great coffee too. The lady in charge was brilliant and very engaging. No problem leaving our bikes where clearly visible the other side of the glass window right next to where we were seated which was reassuring. Will definitely plan further cycling routes from Portishead around a cafe stop at Bicky's.

White Horse Inn

$$$$affordable
Pub
Restaurant
White Horse Inn is a charming country pub that serves traditional British dishes and offers unique cabins with simple furnishings. Visitors praise the warm welcome extended to both humans and dogs, making it an ideal spot after a long dog walk. The pub's ambiance is described as quintessentially forest-like, with friendly staff and delightful resident dogs adding to the experience. Diners have raved about the well-cooked lamb dishes, delectable desserts, and efficient service.
Best Sunday dinner meal out for a long time. I had roast pork and my husband had liver, the meals came with perfectly cooked veg and it was all served with a smile. I had tiramisu for dessert and my husband had almond and pear both were fab. Well done all 👍
Zoe S — Google review
Traditional British meals, but absolutely great quality! We had a peppered pork pie, and some liver and onions. Never had liver cooked that well before, spot on! The staff were super friendly, and as an added bonus there were two pub dogs walking around. Loved our visit

I don't usually say this but my whole experience here was amazing start to finish. We were staying at Forest of Dean for a week and decided to go here on a whim and it was such a good choice! Best service I have ever recieved, the staff were so lovely and friendly and you weren't waiting long at all. The food arrived hot and quickly. I had midweek roast and my husband had toad under the hole. It was all very well presented and the food tasted superb! I honestly don't have a bad word to say about it. Dessert was also lovely. The prices were cheap too for what you are getting I am so used to paying higher London prices. Another great addition was the dogs in the pub which are so friendly. I wish I had this pub where I live as I would be coming here every weekend! Thank you.

Dropped in without a reservation and ate a quick meal in the lovely garden. Food quality really good, service with a smile, and reasonable prices. Definitely going back for the roast dinner.

What an absolute gem of a place!! We went here for a birthday celebration meal and the food was beyond delicious. Everything was cooked to perfection and beautifully presented. The venue was gorgeous with lovely low lighting and a couple of very well behaved dogs.

What a gem! We were staying in the local area and had been told about this restaurant but didn’t look it up first and stupidly didn’t book! It was busy, however, we weren’t turned away we were offered the garden which we took as it was a nice evening. The menus looked a little pricey but we were hungry and when the food arrived it was clear this was going to be an excellent meal. Thoughtful staff then came out to let us know that a table had become free inside as it was getting chilly so we had our main course inside. I think this was one of the best meals we have ever had at a pub. The menu was not large but this often means the food will be better and it was absolutely superb and worth every penny we paid. Portion sizes perfect. The service was second to none and they didn’t automatically slap on a service charge, but we added one of course. Atmosphere was great and staff were friendly and worked so hard. Please do book a table you won’t be disappointed.
Suzanne F — Google review
Can’t fault the service and food! We are not from the area and was looking for somewhere for 14 people to have a roast. After a google search I found The White Horse Inn and I’m so glad I did! Everybody was happy with their meals with some saying it was the best roast they have had in ages. Service was speedy and staff were great. Highly recommend.
Chloe H — Google review
Absolutely loved The White Horse. Very friendly welcome. Small but good selection of well kept beers. Food was delicious and good sized portions. Toad under the hole being a highlight. Varied menu but definitely sticks to 'pub food' with a few twists. Everything a proper pub should be.

The Miners Country Inn

Gastropub
Bed & breakfast
The Miners Sling is a charming, family-operated inn located in Coleford. This cozy establishment offers comfortable accommodations and a relaxed restaurant, as well as an inviting beer garden. The rooms may become warm during exceptionally hot weather, but overall the stay is pleasant with picturesque surroundings. Although disappointed by the closure of the bar and restaurant on Tuesday evening, guests appreciate the excellent reputation of the cuisine. The following morning, breakfast impresses with its quality food, presentation, and exceptional service.
We stayed in the area as part of a visit to the Forest of Dean and we were recommended The Miners and it was the best decision we made! The food was exceptional, with portion sizes being just right. There was a good selection of starters and mains (albeit maybe a little thin on vegetarian choices), a good selection of desserts and many beer offerings. The staff were all busy and incredibly attentive. We could not really fault the place. The next time we are in the area we will be back for more!
Ian — Google review
Me and some friends booked here for dinner and we loved it! The service was great, and the food was brilliant. My portion size was a little on the small side but it just meant I had room for dessert- which was heavenly! Would definitely come back.

Gorgeous food. Huge portions! I had the mussels as a main meal and I just couldn't get through them all. The service was lovely and friendly. I felt welcome. Extensive wine and drink menu and generally a good atmosphere!
Annie T — Google review
The whole family went for a lunch here last week. The lady that served us was smiley and beyond welcoming. The pub was quiet and felt calm with the ‘naughty’ sheep to keep us company! The food was AMAZING! We couldn’t quite believe how good the food actually was… hands down one of the best meals out we have had in a long time! Would 100% recommend it’s a complete no brainer. If we are ever back in the Forest of Dean, the first thing we will do is book ourselves in here for a meal!
Millie G — Google review
I’ve been visiting The Miners Sling for years, and I can honestly say I’ve never had a bad meal here – not once. Every visit is a reminder of why this place is such a gem. The food is always top notch, full of flavour, and clearly made with care and quality ingredients. Whether it's a hearty classic or something a bit more adventurous, the standard is consistently excellent. The service is just as impressive – warm, professional, and genuinely welcoming every single time. You’re treated like a regular whether it's your first visit or your fiftieth. The atmosphere has a charm all its own – relaxed, inviting, and a perfect reflection of the pride the team takes in their work. It’s one of those rare places where you know you’re in for a great experience before you even sit down. If you haven’t been yet, you’re seriously missing out. The Miners Sling is the real deal – a place that delivers every single time.

We stayed here on Saturday 9th August for one night during a brief weekend visit to the Forest of Dean. From the outside it doesn’t look much but don’t be put off by first impressions. As soon as you walk in you are welcomed by extremely friendly staff who can’t do enough, even bringing your drinks to you in the garden. The food is fantastic, all locally sourced ingredients extremely well cooked and reasonably priced for a gastro pub. We had the venison pie which was superb and piping hot. Our room was very tastefully decorated with everything you need for a good stay. The bed was very comfortable and we were woken in the morning by the sound of wild sheep wandering around in the back garden. The breakfast was cooked to order and superb, enough to keep you going for a good part of the day. The king room and breakfast at £105 was extremely good value. I would certainly stay here again and recommend it.

We only went for lunch. They hadn't got our reservation but managed to seat us. We had afternoon tea. The sausage roll is amazing. The sandwiches were very very boring. Ham slapped between bread and cheese and tomatoes which fell apart on board. Cakes were average. Service was odd and they forgot to bring drinks. When I did get my tea it was a very small cup with only one cups worth of water in the pot ... Just. Friend said her coffee was very weak. Was quite stylish but we left a bit disappointed.

Came here for dinner whilst on Holiday and loved it! We had the burger, the Tomato risotto and the sticky toffee pudding for dessert. The risotto was a part of their “Thursday £10” menu and was great quality at that price. They even Old Mout Berries and Cherries on draught, which is a personal favourite.

Bristol Airport

International airport
Airport
Bristol Airport is a regional airport in South-West England, offering international flights and featuring a modern, 2-floor terminal. The city of Bristol has a rich history as a major port and is known for its cultural vibrancy, historic landmarks, and aquatic heritage. It has evolved into a hub for architectural, creative, historical, and cultural activities with independent music venues and theaters hosting various events and festivals throughout the year.
We used Bristol Airport for a quick trip and were pleasantly surprised by the changes taking place. it’s clear the airport is undergoing a major redevelopment and from what we saw, what’s already been done looks great, and what’s to come seems very promising. Silver car parking was excellent, check in smooth plane took of on time.

Bristol Airport Bristol Airport is not a large airport, and it still provides facilities that meet most travellers’ needs. Toilets are free of charge. In the departure hall, you’ll find restaurants, convenience stores, gift shops, and duty-free shopping. The bus station outside offers easy connections to and from the airport, and clear signage inside makes it simple to navigate.
Muh F — Google review
Bristol International Airport offers a practical and efficient gateway for travellers in the South West. While not as expansive as major UK hubs, it delivers a streamlined experience with relatively quick check-ins, friendly staff, and a manageable layout. The airport serves a wide range of short- and mid-haul destinations across Europe, making it a convenient choice for both leisure and business travellers. Food and retail options are modest but adequate, and the Aspire Lounge provides a quieter space for those seeking comfort. Transport access is generally good, though the lack of a direct train line is a drawback. Parking is well-organised, with shuttle services from long-stay zones running frequently. In summary, Bristol Airport strikes a balance between simplicity and functionality. It may not offer luxury, but it delivers reliability and ease which is exactly what most regional travellers need.
Oghenehero B — Google review
Getting busier and busier with lots of flights to many home and European locations, this airport looks tired and is currently undergoing refurbishment and investment which promises to improve the experience. The check in and arrival areas are all close together with minimal seating, I found no phone charging locations and just one cafe downstairs. There is a M&S food as you enter the terminal, and plenty of space outside however short stay parking is expensive and limited. The long stay car park is serviced by a bus and is very convenient but also not cheap. I arrived by bus at the extensive bus terminal using the Stagecoach Falcon service that runs between Plymouth and Bristol City center.
Glen A — Google review
Very bustling regional airport that is undergoing some much-needed upgrades and expansion construction. At some points it was very crowded and challenging to navigate through. The rental car pick up area was easy to find and the bus transport to their was quick and easy.
Mary B — Google review
It's never a quiet spot to watch such amazing engineering at its finest. There is always hustle and bustle on the tarmac and taxiway with aeroplanes landing and taking off with surprise visits, including light aircraft and even a helicopter. If you're into watching planes, and you're going to be there a while, bring food and a drink as there is nothing around to buy. Parking next to the runway has about 20 spaces but if you park at the bottom of the runway, 2 spaces.
Tom R — Google review
Well... not the best experience... the lounge were fully booked and no possibility to use the paid services. Long distance warking frombthe plane to exit and the same during departure. The free chairs available around. Entering UK with kids under 10years you have to pass a person control
Victoria P — Google review
The spot itself is not the easiest to get to until you are close to the airfield. Great area for a good couple of hours plane spotting, you will see a lot of EasyJet flights, as it's one of their main hubs.

Birmingham Airport

International airport
Airport
Birmingham Airport, established in the 1980s, boasts strong local and long-distance bus connections as well as its own train station. It is conveniently located in the heart of Birmingham. The area offers a variety of family-friendly activities including children's clubs, play areas, museums, nature spots, and entertainment venues. Additionally, there are numerous dining options such as Dirty Martini which provides a cozy atmosphere and serves food along with an extensive selection of liquors.
Hello pretty much, I had a great experience taking my flight from Birmingham airport to Perpignan yesterday ! I arrived at the airport around 11:30am and my flight was at 1:40pm. I never came to this airport before but I didn’t struggle at all to find where I had to go for the departures place. The security was easy to find and everyone was pretty kind with me there, explaining everything and helping me whenever I needed. After security, waiting for my plane I had access to a huge commercial place. We can buy a lot of different things you can see on the photos and we can eat pretty much everything. Such a good idea ! I had to wait 1 hour and a half but it was so quick with all of these things to wait. Thank you Birmingham and United Kingdom for this beautiful Airport ✈️🛩️

Great place. Perfectly located airport. 15 minutes and I am there. No traffic. Great parking. Great short term pick up/drop off zone. After renovation - looks amazing. Very good security check system. Even when it looks that it is a looooooot of people you go smoothly. Perfect for travellers who are annoyed with queues. After renovation I have never bought fast track in this airport
Diana — Google review
This was a great airport to fly out from, connected with the train station by a people mover cable car type system! Electronic departure boards and boarding gate signage is frequent to help navigate around, water refillable points can be found across the airport too. Seating is comfy for sitting back on or some for lying down, toilets are kept clean themselves. Designs like the pattern on the wall showing a steam train running to the end are innovative and queuing system for the flight was efficient where we walked straight there, security went fine although we were told not to take pictures in the baggage area maybe due to the possibility of any breaches.

I recently traveled through Birmingham Airport from Abu Dhabi via Istanbul. As a tourist and other nationality they asked some questions about travel purposes, return dates, stay locations and it was easy for me. Too slow and rush at emigration, baggage handling was fast, trolly required to pay, public transportation are available. The ticket rate was high if compared with Heathrow.
Abdulsalam P — Google review
Birmingham Airport prioritizes function over flair. The facilities are small and dated, with minimal shopping and dining options. It serves its primary purpose-getting you on your flight-but don't expect anything more.
Joti C — Google review
Very low quality, one of the worst in the UK. Very slow services. After 23:30, no information desk. After 24:00 no transportation to the train station until the morning. My flight was delayed so I missed the train and I spent all night at the airport. No place to sit apart from the floor. Toilets filthy. No signs to find access to the coach.
James D — Google review
I knew Birmingham airport wouldn't be the best, but today i had the absolute worst experience. The hall for the bag drop Was never show, it said zone the entire time, a letter was never given. Staff couldn't help me either, I was told to just wait. After touring all zones for the 3rd time one display had changed to the airline I needed. Already running late bc of the earlier matter I made mh way to security. The airport website clearly stated liquids up to 2l would be fine. Still my bag had to be inspected further. Turns out liquids up to 2l are alright but need to be tested individually. Would be good to communicate that in advance to plan in the time. The toilets are run down. The doors barely close, so someone walked in on me. Furthermore a hook would be nice so handbags dont have to be left on the floor. Overall I would avoid Birmingham Airport whenever I can.

I recently flew through Birmingham Airport (BHX) in the UK and had a mixed experience. On one hand, it’s conveniently located and user‑friendly in certain aspects, but on the other hand there were a few issues worth noting. What I liked: The airport is relatively easy to navigate with a single terminal layout, which made finding check‑in, security and my gate more straightforward than at some larger UK hubs. Its rail‑link is strong according to recent independent surveys, making it a good option for travelers using public transport. International Airport Review During my visit, staff at check‑in were courteous and helpful when I asked about luggage allowance and boarding gate details. What could be better: Security and check‑in queues were longer than I expected. Several reviewers have flagged this as a repeated issue, particularly during busy times or while ongoing construction is in progress. Some facilities feel outdated or under‑resourced — for example, seating near gates was limited and a few retail/café areas felt crowded or lacking. Drop‑off and pick‑up zones, as well as car‑park signage and access, seemed confusing at times; this added a bit of stress when arriving early. Overall thoughts: If you’re flying from or through Birmingham Airport and arrive with plenty of time, the trip can be quite smooth. The accessibility and straightforward terminal design are definite pluses. However, if you’re cutting it close to your flight or travelling at peak times, I’d advise giving yourself extra buffer time due to potential queues and minor facility drawbacks.

Cardiff Airport

International airport
Airport
Cardiff Airport is a small but efficient airport located just minutes from the lively Welsh capital. Despite its size, it offers essential amenities such as Greggs, Costa Coffee, WHSmiths, a pub, and duty-free shopping. The airport provides a calm and quiet atmosphere with minimal queues at security and plenty of seating for travelers to relax before their flights. While it may not have the flashy stores of larger airports, Cardiff Airport offers everything needed for a pleasant travel experience.
Phenomenal. We stood at the end of the runway where we watched the planes coming into land. The noise from the Boeing 747 was incredible and absolutely amazing. There were a variety of smaller crafts passing overhead. Absolutely brilliant.
Julie B — Google review
Extremely disappointment decision by the airport authorities with the £3 drop off few for 10minutes. Very disappointing amount too as it could be £1 instead : it’s already so difficulty to her to the airport from the city centre, as public transport unfriendly unless you fancy travelling on a bus for 90mins from the city or a train followed by a bus which again takes an hour! Car is the only option! Very empty check in area- only Logan air counters open. Upstairs to departures- much better now, More organised and smoother security without waits as previously with more security aisles. Duty free still the same size albeit missing champagne deals. Three options for seated food and drink: tap and brew, y Castell and Costa Coffee. WH Smith around the corner. The lounge only accepts dragonpass and not priority pass.
Travelling D — Google review
The airport was fine, but the parking was very confusing. It doesn't distinguish between long stay & short stay. Thus when taking folks to departures or picking them up at arrivals, you have no idea which car park to go to!
Jonathan G — Google review
Real mixed bag. Plenty of parking a short walk to the terminal. Quick bag drop and quick through security. Choices for food when through are limited and the sole bar needs a very thorough clean. 1 duty free shop and one W h Smith is all that's there to browse. A pub and a costa, both double the normal costs are the only food options.

Flying from Cardiff to Malaga today and the whole experience has been fantastic, other airports could learn a lot from Cardiff. From parking to security to duty free, the staff are welcoming and their customer service is second to none. Special mention to Robert Lewis in security who was exceptionally helpful, a credit to Cardiff Airport, who clearly loves his work. Thank you Cardiff Airport for making the beginning of our holiday a stress free experience. Love flying from Cardiff! Diolch my fawr 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

Toured Wales and ended my time in Cardiff. At Cardiff Airport, very easy rental car drop off. Very easy check-in, bag drop off and getting through security. Also visited the business lounge. From my very first interaction to getting on the plane, every single person was friendly and efficient. I have spent time in the busiest airports in the world, and Cardiff Airport was a breath of fresh air for me. I will make a point of trying to fly in or out of Cardiff in the future. Thanks! .

I kindly request consideration for expanding international flight routes at Cardiff Airport. Increasing global connectivity will not only benefit travelers but also significantly boost the local economy—supporting taxi businesses, creating jobs, and driving more visitors into our vibrant city. Thank you for your attention to this opportunity for regional growth.
