Cancha De Tejo Los Amigos

Mentioned on

Bar
Located in Salento, Colombia, Cancha De Tejo Los Amigos is the perfect spot to experience the country's popular national sport of tejo. This traditional game involves throwing lead weights at gunpowder targets embedded in a clay board. The bar offers a tourist-friendly experience and has seven tejo pits where visitors can try their hand at this explosive sport. To play, guests are required to purchase beer as it is considered the price of admission to most courts.
Loved it. Must do when visiting Salento as apparently its one of the best Tejo locations in the country. Paid COP$14,000 per person for game, which included a beer. Rules are written in English on the wall. Great couple of hours of family fun! 💥
Todd M — Google review
INCREDIBLE! Such an amazing game! The owners will go the extra mile to explain you the game and teach you all the rules! We had an amazing time playing Tejo! Such a fun game!! It’s a game you must play with some beers and their selection is great! Get ready to have the best time and with doing so learn more about the culture and traditions of Colombia and Salento! Everyone there is having the best time and so happy and grateful to be able to share this little part of their culture with you. All our questions where always met with a smile! We couldn’t recommend a this place more! Pay them a visit and play Tejo!! You won’t regret it!!
Gemma M — Google review
We had such a fun time at this place. It is a really fun local spot that has a game where you need to throw The Rocks into the middle ring. There is no limit, so sometimes you might have to wait if it gets a bit busy. But most people play for an average of an hour or two. They explain the rules to you as well as there's a sign in english. It is fairly cheap. They require that you buy a drinker. Two, you can buy water as well. There is also some poker tables in the front, but no one was using it.When we were there, most people were in the back playing the tossing game.It was a really nice time
Shaya P — Google review
Absolutely would recommend this as a fun activity. The staff were so helpful and explained how to play Tejo. It was our first time playing and we had such a laugh. Unlike any other game I have played before. Cost 5,000 COP per person to play a round and you can play for as long as you like.
Jessica M — Google review
You absolutely HAVE to go here! If I could give it 6 stars I would. It’s off the main drag but honestly, the owner is a complete sweetheart. He was kind, attentive and gave us a full run down of the game. The game and the beer were very reasonably priced. We had such a ball. After going on a tour in the morning we arranged to meet some of the group here for fun and beers. It’s amazing value and we all loved it. I’ll be going back tomorrow night!!
Gail W — Google review
Such good fun - Like gangster bowls. Throw a metal puck on the triangle paper holding gunpowder and BANG!
Duncan H — Google review
Had a fun evening playing Tejo here. Be careful the drinks are very strong! Not sure there was much coke in my Cuba Libre, but drinking is part of the sport, I suppose!
Cle T — Google review
Such a great experience especially if you go with friends. The game is a lot more difficult than expected! I would recommend taking ear protection!! The only downside is they allow smoking inside

Alto de la Cruz viewpoint

Mentioned on
9 lists
Scenic spot
Sights & Landmarks
Nestled in the heart of Salento, the Alto de la Cruz viewpoint is a must-visit for anyone seeking breathtaking vistas. This charming spot offers an incredible perspective over the town and its stunning surroundings. To reach this scenic overlook, simply make your way to the end of Calle Real and tackle a series of around 253 steps that lead you upward.
Viewpoint over the whole of Salento. Very pretty as the sun sets.
Mich _ — Google review
Would not recommend. Yes, it has a nice view over the city. But it looks a bit abandoned up here. The Salento sign is gone but the base is still standing abandoned and looks broken.
Rick A — Google review
The view is pretty average, nothing impressive. The best part is the walk and climbing the stairs, which is fine for exercise if you’ve eaten a lot or just want to stay active during the day. At the top, there’s not much to do—just look around and maybe get a nice photo if the weather is good. The biggest downside is that the place is completely neglected. Walking on the grass, you’ll find dog droppings everywhere, and along what once seemed to be a trail, we even came across human waste.
Mabelin S — Google review
Nice viewpoint with a couple of stalls to purchase snacks and drinks. This viewpoint primarily looks over the town
Ant W — Google review
For the low amount of effort it takes to get to the view point there's really no reason not to do it. Is it the most spectacular view? No. You'll spend an enjoyable 20 minutes up there and move on. It also gives you a good image of how the town is laid out. Instead of going down the stairs to get back go left down a little side trail. There are a few shops including an amazing ceramics shop that actually has high quality souvenirs made right there.
Justin N — Google review
Great place for sightseeing. You can see a lot of the mountains here. The restaurants around here have several vegetarian and vegan options. It's a bit of a hike to get up here, but it's worth it.
Luis B — Google review
A moderate hike up to the top but a very nice view of Salento and surrounding mountains. The top is very simple and a little run down.
Jason G — Google review
If you go to this lookout, dont forget to go directly right when you got op from the stairs. The main lookout is OK but if you follow the small path for 100 meters there is a wooden lookout which was way nicer.

El Rincon de Lucy is a popular dining spot in Salento known for its generous portions of home-cooked meals at very affordable prices. While not ideal for vegetarians, the menu offers options like trout, chicken, or meat with sides, soup, and juice all for a reasonable price. Visitors can enjoy a hearty meal of the day for only 8,000 pesos. The restaurant is recommended by locals and tourists alike for its flavorful food and friendly staff.
absolute must visit for anyone on a budget wanting a hearty delicious meal. best value meal in all of Salento that also tastes amazing. menu of the day, soup to start, then a main and a jug of lemonade all for 18,000!!!! the trout (trucha) was incredible. 10/10 recommend and the staff are so lovely
Ella B — Google review
It's incredible that there still is just an authentically local place in such a touristy area. 18k COP for a whole meal, with soup as appetizer, a whole bunch of things in the main dish (including meat of your choice, or the vegetarian option), and a beverage. Suepr tasty food, and the place is packed with locals so you know it's definitely fair-priced.
Martín S — Google review
A cozy place with very friendly staff. The atmosphere gives it like youre eating a home cooked meal. The only option is the daily menu which gives it a less mass produced feeling. Also very affordable and great portions! Would recommend!
Dieuwe — Google review
A beautiful a cozy little restaurant. The service was great and the food was even better! Also great value for money. I got the grilled chicken breast with beans and the dish came with complimentary soup and juice. It was very quiet so definitely give these guys some more love.
Henry S — Google review
My girlfriend and I had a great experience of authentic colombian dishes at a very fair price. The service was wonderful, they are super nice.
Ori G — Google review
A fairly good menu Almuzero. The food is not as good as a local market elsewhere In the country. Appears to be the best value Almuzero in town at 18,000 pesos.
SEB W — Google review
What a beautiful restaurant. Went there 3 times in 4 days and loved it. Kind staff. Kind chef. Food is really delicious and in terms of time, it cannot be any faster.
Laura E — Google review
This was probably one of the best places to eat in Salento! Extremely reasonable prices, the food is beyond delicious, has veggie options, service is second to none and hygiene is immaculate! Easy to miss but highly recommended!

Calle Real

Mentioned on
5 lists
Calle Real in Salento, Colombia is a charming cobblestone street that showcases the town's rich historical and cultural heritage through its traditional architecture and colonial charm. This iconic tourist destination is lined with restaurants, guest houses, artisan stores, and souvenir shops. The main square, Plaza Bolivar, features the Nuestra Senora del Carmen church and colorful jeeps used for valley trips. The vibrant pedestrian street is perfect for capturing travel snapshots of well-preserved colonial buildings.
Calle Real is the heart of Salento and a must-visit spot. Stretching from the main square to the stairs leading up to the Mirador viewpoint, this colorful street captures the charm and culture of Quindio’s coffee region. Lined with colonial-style buildings painted in vibrant colors, it’s full of craft shops, restaurants, dessert spots, and souvenir stands. Mornings are great for peaceful photos, while evenings offer a lively, welcoming atmosphere. Be sure to carry cash—many shops don’t accept credit cards. There are several ATMs by the main square, and the exchange rates are usually favorable. Whether you’re shopping, tasting local food, or just taking in the scenery, Calle Real is a highlight of any visit to Salento.
Alex P — Google review
Amazing indeed, highly recommend Solento.. Amazing views of old traditional houses and buildings..
Alberto — Google review
Great street from the central square to the Mirador. Many restaurants and tourist shops
Gerard G — Google review
It looks great day and night. Just walking around in the street is good enough even though you do nothing there.
Jungah K — Google review
Main touristic town's walkway, flanked by quaint handicraft house with dual color painted doors. On weekends, it get packed as local tourists stroll up and down for window shopping and try occasionally delis.
Alexandre F — Google review
Nice place to shop for artesenal goods and souvenirs. Also a nice place to take a stroll during the weekdays when it's quiet. The weekends are overly crowded and make for a rather unpleasant experience. Overall, a colorful little street with lots of charm.
Ryan — Google review
My favorite place in Salento 🤩

Coffee shop
Café Jesús Martín is a popular coffee shop located in the heart of Salento, Colombia. Renowned for serving some of the best coffee in the country, it offers a variety of options including classic black coffee, cappuccinos, and lattes. The family-run café is conveniently situated near the main plaza and features an interior courtyard seating area where visitors can enjoy their drinks.
Had good drip coffee and pecan pie here. The ambience is really cute and peaceful. They have an open verandah and plenty of space for groups of all sizes.
Nidhi — Google review
This is a great spot if you want to drink some great specialty coffee. We visited here since it serves one of the best coffees in Salento and we were not disappointed. It tasted very good and the staff was very friendly. We also had a sandwich but this was clearly not their specialty and a bit disappointing. The prices are normal for this area. Certainly worth a visit if you come for the coffee!
Sam H — Google review
If you’re visiting Salento, you can’t miss Jesús Martín Café. It’s a cozy and charming place, perfect for enjoying a cup of high-quality Colombian coffee with delicious desserts. The staff is friendly, and the atmosphere makes you want to relax and enjoy the moment. 👉 Recommendation: try their specialty coffee – it’s truly delightful. Definitely a must-visit spot in the heart of Quindío.
Naila J — Google review
Gorgeous place with posters and murals that pique one's interest in coffee and art. The front part looks narrow but the inside courtyard is spacious. The filter coffee brewed from local beans was bright and delightful.
Chriswan S — Google review
This place is an absolute gem for breakfast lovers! The presentation alone is worth a visit – beautifully arranged plates with fresh fruit, crunchy granola, creamy yogurt, fluffy waffles, and delicious coffee with perfect latte art. The portions are generous, and every element tastes as good as it looks.
Lucia C — Google review
I came there for remote work for one day. Internet speed 6MB/s, I was able to have videocalls though internet is slow but works. The service is lovely and kind, thehy allowed me to wok 5h continously without nagging me to force to order more drinks/food. Very delivious baked empanada argentina with meat.
Realize D — Google review
Good local coffee if you’re in Salento, but don’t expect the friendliest or attentive service
Jack C — Google review
Beware coffee in Colombia is acidic! Their $6k hot latte was exactly what I was looking for! It was one of the better cups of Joe's I had in that area. Also the espresso here wasn't as acidic as in other places.

Viajero Hostel Salento

Mentioned on
5 lists
Youth hostel
Hostel
Viajero Hostel Salento is a popular choice among backpackers due to its top-notch facilities, spacious rooms, and variety of classes offered such as yoga, salsa, and language lessons. The hostel offers airy private rooms and dorms with some featuring mountain views. It is conveniently located just a few blocks from the town center and provides fabulous views of the surrounding mountains. Guests can enjoy a vibrant social atmosphere, delicious food, fun activities every evening, and a tasty breakfast.
I love this hostel with my whole heart. Excellent location, great common areas, and the staff were top notch. All of the staff went out of their way to remember my name and were eager to say hello, allow me to practice my Spanish, and provide great recommendations- I can't remember everyones names unfortunately, but Valentina in particular was very kind. Ivan was an excellent activity leader- we danced, painted, played games, and always had a blast. The laundry service was excellent and the facilities were very clean as well. I spent 4 days there and I highly recommend for anyone looking for a chill and social environment!
Erin G — Google review
Wow, the people who work at the hostel are fantastic. We had an exceptional experience. What can we say about the reception staff: they welcome us so warmly and professionally that from the very first moment, we knew we were going to have a wonderful stay. The food is excellent, especially the pizza: the pizza oven is outstanding, you absolutely have to try it. Special mention to the breakfast team and also to the evening team at the bar/restaurant. Unfortunately, we forgot your names (sorry), but you made our stay truly unforgettable. Manuel from the entertainment team is amazing. Thank you for keeping the outdoor fire going. See you soon, we will definitely be back!
Willy 3 — Google review
Like many Viajero hostels it has everything you need. The 8 bed dorm I was in had one toilet and separate shower room, others were available outside. The restaurant is not open all day. The bar doesnt stay open late. The staff are lovely. It is a very short walk from the main square. As with all chain hostels they over charge a little for everything, but everything is good. Bus dropped us right outside the door too! There is sometimes a cat on the front desk...
Samuel E — Google review
My stay at Viajero has been wonderful. The location is perfect with breathtaking views over the mountains. The staff is also very kind and friendly and will help you out with any questions or issues you have. They also organise fun activities very often so it makes it very easy to meet and mingle with people. Overall Viajero is a beautiful hostel that I definitely recommend staying in if you ever come to Salento.
Iza M — Google review
The hostel is large and the dorms are functional. On the weekend it was also completely full, so understandably it was not super quiet. But I didn’t mind. I disliked the small size of the lockers below the beds. The hostel also has a nice outdoor area, great for chilling and meeting people. There is a 24 hours reception and they were very friendly. I personally was a bit annoyed by the constant whatsapp messages trying to sell tours, or discount codes, or breakfast. Maybe some people don’t mind that, but I felt the staff constantly wanted to sell me stuff. At some point I just blocked their number which should not be necessary tbh.
Manuel R — Google review
Maja was so nice(and loud haha) during the check in process, una latina típica. it’s a nice spot with a good view and chill bar area. Watch out for Mariana, she’s a sassy one!
Adam B — Google review
Fantastic stay at Viajero Hostel Salento! 🌟 I had an amazing time at this hostel. The staff are incredibly friendly and always happy to help, which creates a warm and welcoming atmosphere right away. The outdoor chill area is the perfect spot to relax and meet new people — super social and laid-back! One of the highlights is the restaurant right next to the bar, which is super convenient after a long hike. The meals are surprisingly delicious and offered at very reasonable prices. Ideal if you’re tired in the evening and don’t feel like going out again. All in all, a great place for backpackers, hikers, or anyone looking for a relaxed and social stay in Salento!
Kristof S — Google review
We have had a great time at the Viajero Hostel. There were some issues with the supply of hot water but this was mentioned before we arrived. The staff was super friendly and it is a great place to meet people to go on excursions with. The view of the mountains around Salento to are amazing.

Donde laurita en SALENTO

Colombian restaurant
Where Laurita in Salento is a popular restaurant known for its delicious trout dishes. The menu offers a variety of preparations, including Trucha gratinada con champinones. The cozy atmosphere and top-notch service make it a must-visit spot in the beautiful town of Salento. In addition to their specialty trout, the restaurant also serves traditional Bandeja Paisa with heart-shaped arepas at affordable prices.
We are on vacation and our tour group stopped here to eat. It’s absolutely beautiful atmosphere. Very authentic Colombian food. I had chicken and my husband had fish . Our service was great. Overall great dining experience
Susan B — Google review
This is a nice restaurant just off the main square in Salento. Very interesting decor! The food and service was good, and portions were quite large. We wanted something local for our last dinner in Salento and this place did not disappoint! Would definitely recommend if you happen to be in the area.
Dipanjan D — Google review
It’s fair to say that we’re all disappointed afterwards. Although we understood that the place was packed in the end of the night and also with so many tables walking in in the same time, there’s no excuses for the food to be delivered with no quality standards as well as for the many dishes we’re not served. There was not a single dish that was spotted as good. Also, they are so limited on drinks availability. For instance, if you like cocktails don’t even bother to come here. The wine list is ridiculous to the least acceptable standard. Overall, it’s a big no coming back.
Marcelo S — Google review
I ordered a BBQ rib and got a chewy piece of pork being far from what was presented in the menu. I ate the cold patato that came with the meal and a little bit of the meat but that's it. I'm not sure how could this restaurant could be rated 4.5 stars. Other plates were ok at best and the service none existing.
Danik M — Google review
This is one of the best traditional restaurants in Salento. Only the de orations on the inside make it worth a visit. The whole restaurant is filled with all kinds of decorations and colours. The staff is very friendly and welcoming. The food arrived very quickly. It was delicious, we tried the local specialties and we were not disappointed. Everything tasted fresh and eating here was a great experience. If you want to try some local food in Salento this is the spot!
Sam H — Google review
Everything was good the steak was at its point. They're were different plates of trout and you should try the mazamorra and the warm fruit drink.
CORNERSTONE S — Google review
We had a lovely traditional meal called Bandeja Paisa and it was delicious. Atmosphere is great! A must not miss on your trip to Salento.
Margaret H — Google review
It was a mediocre start to our stay in Salento. The bandeja paisa was tasty, but I found the trout to be complicated to eat, full of fish bones. Apparently that's normal, so perhaps it's just my preference. The giant patacones and hogao were delicious. Overall a decent meal, but nothing to write home about.

Our Lady of Carmen church is a stunning centerpiece in Salento plaza, surrounded by palm trees, flowering plants, and rustic benches. The plaza transforms into a lively marketplace on weekends with food stalls and souvenir vendors. Just a few blocks away, the countryside offers picturesque views of coffee fields, green hills, and distant mountains. The church's open-door policy welcomes visitors to admire its traditional architecture that preserves the region's cultural landscape.
A Beautiful and Inviting Church This church is truly a special place. The moment you step inside, you're struck by the appealing architecture and the warm, welcoming atmosphere. The "pesebre" (nativity scene) displayed prominently in front of the altar adds a touch of charm and reminds you of the true meaning of the season. The mass itself was very moving, and the priest delivered a heartfelt and inspiring sermon. The overall experience was incredibly peaceful and uplifting. The exterior of the church is equally beautiful, making it a lovely spot to simply sit and enjoy the surroundings. Highly recommend a visit!

Our Lady of Carmen in Salento is a stunning Catholic church located in the main square, surrounded by shops and restaurants, making it a focal point of the town. Its unique architecture and beautiful stained glass windows, along with a courtyard museum of the catholic faith in the area, reflecting the rich culture and traditions of Salento. The church is always clean and welcoming, with posted mass times and ringing bells that draw both locals and tourists. This charming parish, dating back to the early 20th century, embodies the spirit of the community and is a must-visit for anyone exploring the picturesque town of Salento.

Reserva La Rivera

Nature preserve
Sights & Landmarks
Reserva La Rivera, a Colombian natural reserve, offers an alternative perspective on the country. It is considered a masterpiece as it showcases stunning visuals and a harmonious blend of flavors in its edible forest. The reserve also prides itself on the warm hospitality of its family, employees, and volunteers who are dedicated to nurturing this sacred space that unifies nature and mankind.
A great experience for birding and bird photography in Quindío, so far the best facilities for doing bird photography in Quindío, they have been able to attract some beautiful species to the feeders, including the red-ruffed fruitcrow. The forest around the house are well conserved and they have some paths inside of the forest too

This Place is located in the heart or the Colombian Andes mountain range, very close to Salento and Armenia. It is surrounded by nature and overwhelming lanscapes. It offers several activities, such as bird watching, short to long hikes, and also relaxing along the many rivers you can find around.. It is also very special that this place is surrounded by natural reserves and a National Park, all of which forms a large continuum of preserved areas with an lots of biodiversity.. Totally recommended.
Santiago B — Google review
This place is not only overwhelmingly beautiful, it is also a perfect example of sustainability. This family managed initiative found a way to combine conservation, soil regeneration and agriculture with economic and social yields. It is an example for intensive agricultural processes to see how conservation efforts can be equally profitable. Moreover, the knowledge transfer to the farmers, intended to change the conventional destructive practices into regenerative actions based on permaculture, make this sanctuary the perfect place to reconnect with nature. Highly recommended!
Sebastian C — Google review
PUT ME IN TOUCH WITH ANOTHER SIDE OF COLOMBIA. As far as I am concerned, coming to Colombia without visiting this family-run natural reserve is like visiting the Louvre without glimpsing the Mona Lisa. Reserva La Rivera is without a doubt a living work of art, from the immense and deep visual beauty, to the glorious gestalt of flavors within its edible forest and the salivating homemade Colombian treats made by Jose's mom and the cottage caretaker, to the sentiment and affection of the family, employees and volunteers dedicated to what I understood is a passion project to bring together the well-being of nature and man in one (sacred) space. A dream, a newColombia, a reminder of what is possible when the wisdom and grace of nature meets the creativity and love of man. Thank you.

José the owner of the farm invited me for the weekend to come to his farm. I was really impressed with this beautiful farm up in the mountains. He had Big vegetables and fruit garden and he told me next step ist o plant quinua and corn to be completely self-sufficient. I helped him to plant some trees around and we had a really good talk about how we can build a cleaner and better world for our next generation. Actually, I get my best campground in the whole of Colombia there. I have to the comeback of sure and see how is going the process on his Project. So if you in Colombia in Coffee region of Armenia I am highly recommended this finca. You can stay there a couple of days and learn more about native plants, going bird watching or just relax.

Acaime Nature Reserve

Nature preserve
The bird sanctuary in the Cocora Valley is a bit of an extra hike—about 1 km off the main loop—but it’s well worth it. Here, you can sit among the trees and watch a vibrant array of hummingbirds in their natural habitat. Enjoy a hot chocolate with cheese as you take a break and soak in the peaceful sounds of the valley. There are also bathrooms, making it a convenient spot to freshen up. Simply sitting and enjoying the sights and sounds of the hummingbirds is a fantastic experience.
Bradley J — Google review
I visited here after climbing the mountain of cocora valley and while the birds were cool, i did think it was rude if the staff because on the sign it says ‘donations’ 20.000 but a donation is voluntary. However after arriving there a woman approached me and softly demanded i pay 20.000. When i mentioned the donation she just stood there until i paid. Dont write donation if it is mandatory.

Best to hire a guide for this one otherwise the significance of the area will be lost on you. The hanging bridges are fun, if not a little precarious. Scenery is amazing and varied, from wax palms to cascades and a heavy dose of incredible mountains as you get to the top. We did the full trek walking anti clockwise which I think is the way to go. Best to get to the top in the afternoon as it's generally less cloudy. Hummingbird sanctuary is fun and a good place to rest but I wouldn't say it's a necessity. No toilets on route (there's one at the sanctuary but paper isn't provided) so pack accordingly.
Brodie M — Google review
Quite an uphill, long detour from the Corcora Valley trail to get to this tiny little bird sanctuary. You pay a small fee (couple dollars) at the entrance and that includes hot chocolate (with a chunk of local cheese in it - so interesting!) with a little open air seating area nestled in the side of the jungle, and all the pics u can get of the fabulous hummingbirds. If you're short on time, I'd say skip it - not a must-see, imo. The birds were so cute and pretty though. But not very many of them.
Astra R — Google review
They saved my life. June 28, 2024 I have hiked Cócora twice (2016 & 2019). This was my third time. I started at 10:36am and thought I followed all of the obvious trails. After 6 hours of hiking, at 4:30pm, I knew something was wrong. I ran out of water and kept going until I eventually decided to turn around. I called the police by 6:30pm and they were not very helpful, on top of phone service going in and out. At around 7:45pm after slipping countless times on mud, disoriented and feeling dizzy (probably the beginning of dehydration), I stumbled upon this property where they gave me water, offered me some food, allowed me stay the night, and let me charge my phone and use the wifi in the morning to contact the police and family to inform everyone that I was ok now. If it weren’t for their understanding and hospitality, I don’t know what I would’ve done that night in the woods. They never charged me but I did pay them at the end to express my gratitude.

I wouldn't call this a reserve and it's not worth a detour. The good thing is that you get a cold/hot drink and some cheese with the entrance fee. You get to see some colibris but not as much as I had imagined.
Romain G — Google review
It's fine, we saw the hummingbirds and got a nice cup of hot chocolate. However, after a long hike already (we did the whole 12km loop) it was a bit much - quite steep and muddy. I have read someone's blog beforehand and it said "if you haven't seen hummingbirds, then go for it, otherwise don't bother" and that resonates with me - I couldn't agree more.

Such a great experience to walk through the forest and get to that Natural reserve, you get the lovely opportunity to see the colibríes and some other species of birds.

Brunch de Salento

Restaurant
Brunch de Salento is a popular spot in Salento known for its generous portions and delicious food. It's recommended to order a packed lunch from here before setting out on the hike, as it offers large sandwiches with various options, homemade granola, crackers and cheese, peanut butter, and a peanut-butter brownie at an affordable price. The place is owned by an expat from Oregon and is famous for its monstrous pancakes and fresh-squeezed juice.
After 3 days of feeling like all I was eating was trout and Arepas, I was in the mood for a greasy burger and this place did not disappoint. Bacon was delicious (and plentiful), fries were fresh and crispy, staff was friendly and relaxed. Only small improvement I would recommend is to ask how I wanted the burger cooked. They didn’t ask and I assumed it would be medium but it came more on the well-done side, but still was really tasty! I would go back in a heartbeat. Top place in Salento.
Eburt023 — Google review
Really good drinks and food, suuuper big quantities for the price it costs! A bit slower cooking one of the dishes but they compensated with a free beer🤗 thanks a lot, will definitely come back.
Berta E — Google review
Great restaurant any time of day..huge variety in the menu. Fair price for the amount of food you get. My boyfriend got nachos for one and it was a huge portions. I ordered a sandwich and chips and could to finish it, which is never a bad complaint. You can ask them to tailor the portions, which we found out after.
Jessica M — Google review
What an experience! Tasty and HUGE portions. Great coffee. Friendly staff. They even gave us an extra portion of fries when we couldn't even finish our exceptional meals. Would recommend, might seem pricey but the food is good and plentiful.
Samuel E — Google review
After spending a week eating at this restaurant nearly every day, we were blown away by the delicious food and generous portions. Before our hiking trips, we grabbed lunch packs from here, which were absolutely perfect for our activities. Almost everything served is homemade, and you can really tell there's a lot of love put into the details. Highly recommend!
Cedric K — Google review
Hands down one of the best brunch spots I’ve ever been to! The food was absolutely incredible – every dish was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully put together. The staff couldn’t have been friendlier; so welcoming, attentive, and genuinely accommodating, which made the whole experience even better. You can really tell they care about their customers. The vibe is relaxed but lively, making it the perfect place to start your day. I’ll definitely be coming back, and I’d 100% recommend it to anyone looking for a top-notch brunch.

Great place to go for breakfast before your hike in the Valle de Cocora. We arrived a little after they opened at 6am and there were several hiking groups of foreigners getting breakfast in preparation. The business knows their audence well and the menu had American style breakfasts with a twist of adding energy for the hike, like peanut butter on the pancakes. The food was good and the restaurant looks like a friendly community-oriented hostel, keeping with the young hiking vibe. Everything was reasonably priced and the waiter was speaking very good English with the other tables. The restaurant offers pack lunches to take with you to eat during the hike (or if you have a long bus ride ahead of you) and we ordered a couple. They came with a sandwich, granola, banana, among other foods, and was tasty and super convienent for the trek. They also put in an inspiring message keeping with the vibe. I fully recommend Brunch or Salento as a one-stop restaurant for breakfast and lunch if you are doing the Valle de Cocora hike.
Michael M — Google review
Excellent food and incredibly friendly and hospitable staff, who will take the time to give you an overview of the different activities and hiking routes around Salento (they have maps painted on their walls and use a laser pointer to talk you through it!). If you’re planning on doing day hikes they also sell lunch packs for 20K to save you the hassle of packing your own lunch!

Bernabé Café & Bistro, previously known as Cafe Bernabe, is a fusion restaurant located on Calle Real in Salento. It offers a fancier dining experience with delicious food and friendly service. The restaurant is known for its grilled trout, artisanal beer, and cocktails. With a cozy atmosphere and lovely balcony overlooking the bustling street, it's a great spot to enjoy Colombian cuisine and unique decor.
Amazing hidden place! Went there to grab something different/healthy compared to the other restaurants in town. Had a superb bowl with fresh veggies, my girlfriend the baba ganoush and hot chocolate. The service was super friendly. The place has a garden to the back, a balcony to the front and also sells crafts. Hope more people find this place as it’s truly a hidden gem among the touristy spots!

Very cute nook in the wall spot with amazing food! Crafty collection and a lovely home-cooked meal. Chill vibes. It’s up a staircase so if the door is locked knock, or go during dinner and lunch times.
Kim T — Google review
Wow-what a cozy find off of Carrera 6! While Salento has been pretty quiet, the inside garden tables were a tranquil experience. The Baba Ganoush was delicious and the drinks were great too (Deloris Cafe & GT with cucumber & rosemary). We tried the chocolate pepper cake and were impressed by the flavors. The owner was friendly and helpful.
J N — Google review
This place is astonishing! Local, high quality, with a very special, warm and athtentic athmosphere. Real diamond!
Kat E — Google review
Top-notch restaurant, impeccable service, cozy vibe and great atmosphere. Lovely balcony to face crowded street that captures so well the Colombian beautiful spirit. Food was exquisite! Bonus points they have artisanal beer that they make themselves. IPA was inspired choice! Very good cocktails too! Couldn’t recommend this enough!
Mihai T — Google review
We had a very good lunch. If you sit outside you can see the beautiful landscape. Yet, the place is a bit more expensive but the food is worth it. The salmon was great and we also had the mushrooms. The coco lemonade was one of the best and their coffee was of premium quality as well as home made ice cream,
Ilja B — Google review
I saw a few recommendations for this spot online but unfortunately did not have a good experience. I ordered the garlic lemon trucha and found it quite bland and filled with so many bones it was difficult to eat. The food also took about 45min to come out and there weren’t very many people in the restaurant.
Melissa B — Google review
I just love everything about this place. The interior, the vibe, the staff, and even the history of this place. To top it off, food is delicious! Although we had to wait quite some time for the food, it was definitely well worth the wait! This place definitely deserves more people in it!

Restaurant
Camino Real is a versatile dining option that offers a variety of dishes, making it suitable for different tastes. Cafe Jesus Martin stands out as an excellent choice for coffee, breakfast, or brunch with its delicious food and highly regarded coffee. The restaurant's friendly and attentive service ensures a pleasant experience for all visitors. The establishment's filet mignon wrapped in bacon and topped with mushroom sauce is particularly noteworthy.
The service was really good and the staff was very attentive to detail. The food is great and I recommend that you go there.

The service was really friendly and helpful, which we appreciated right away. And the fish, wow! It was absolutely perfect and came in a surprisingly large portion. I was the only one hungry at first, but the dish was so generous that we ended up sharing it between the two of us. A pleasant surprise and a delicious meal!

No trip to Salento would be complete without dining at Camino Real. This was our third visit over the past 4 years. Everything that my family has ordered is always cooked to perfection and top quality ingredients. The views are spectacular, the drinks are amazing and the service is great. I always have The Grilled Baby Beef that is arguably the best piece of Beef in Colombia. Shrimp Cocktails, Pasta Dishes, Patacones are all World Class. I highly recommend this restaurant. It is my favorite restaurant in Salento.

The burger was horrible and the meat dish my friend had was miserable too. Good service tho. The smoke was so strong it took days for the smell to go away

Tip by a local for their great meats. So I've ordered the t bone and understood why. It was delicious!! Funny setup of the restaurant as well on various terraces. Makes it harder for the staff though!
Wouter B — Google review
Great food, we ate the Tomahawk, dusted veggie greens and mushroom cream. Music was very nice, staff very friendly and they had Belgian beers, definitely recommend!
Dimitris P — Google review
This is genuinely one of the best restaurants I’ve ever been to. The food was incredible, the service is amazing and the food comes out so quick. We ate here twice during our stay and ordered the beef and the chicken brochette, the creole potato entree, the broccoli crema del dia, coffee and the limonada natural. Everything was incredible! My favourite was the broccoli crema del dia, the limonada and coffee is also to die for. My partner had the beef brochette twice it was so good!! Genuinely heartbroken I can’t bring this place home. Thank you to the wonderful staff who very clearly care about the experience of their customers. If you’re in Salento, you must eat here!

Excellent place if you want to try a variety of good dishes and drinks. All the dishes are made with an excellent presentation and a excellent flavour of course. In this restaurant you can eat variety of meats (chicken, pork, beaf), fishes and shrimps and other types of seafood, spaghetti. Also you can drink delicious natural juices, variety of lemonades, beers and cocktails. In the night you can relax with the chimney and drink a good wine. The decoration is nice with all the plants and nature inside the restaurant, and the chairs and tables are made with an good type of wood giving the place a special touch.

Quindu Restaurante is a hidden gem located on Calle 2 between Carrera 4 and Carrera 5, offering traditional Colombian cuisine in a beautifully decorated space. Despite being situated away from the bustling areas, this restaurant boasts a nice bar and terrace at the back. The menu features delicious dishes such as salmon pasta and flamed creme brulee, complemented by delightful drinks like Canelazo and Te de canela.
Presentation of the food is just as amazing as it tastes. This restaurant is definitely on the pricier side in the area but totally worth it. Great customer service, cute decor and location, and a must visit if you’re in the area!
Sarai C — Google review
I was really looking forward to eating here all week. Sadly I left disappointed. I wonder if the presentation is better than the food itself. All the pictures looked so good! Also, the online menu and the one in the restaurant were different so just wait until you are there to see what is current. Unfortunately my dish did not taste flavorful or fresh (shrimp, squid and spicy rice). I only ate half before leaving. I paid less for so many other amazing dishes in Salento. Also, my server hardly noticed me at all and never checked on me. Maybe I would’ve asked for a different entree if she had. She also brought my drink in the middle of the meal which was a bummer too. Service is slow (one bartender for the whole restaurant). However my drink was good! I recommend going for a few drinks and ambience because the place is very cute. Bring a sweater because the whole place is open-air.

This is definitely the top fine dining restaurant in Salento. Food is absolutely delicious, fresh, and high quality. If you are looking for the best contemporary Colombian food in Salento, Quindu is amazing. Service is great and food came out quick. Our waitress/bartender was super nice and was very friendly and spoke a little English :)

You have to come to this place if you’re in Salento. This is such great restaurant that we still remember how delicious the food was even through we visited this place 2 years ago. Service, food presentation, interior design, everything was top noch! Keep it up and we can’t wait to visit this place again!

One of my favorite dishes in Colombia was from here. It was a great pasta dish but I also enjoyed the other food and drinks. The service was great and also we had a beautiful view. I was surprised how big this place was. Definitely a great place to stop.
Anthony S — Google review
We randomly stopped in for cocktails one afternoon. What a pleasant surprise to stumble onto this place. The restaurant itself is very pretty. The view from the bar is wonderful. The best though was our cocktails! We had the El Ancestral and The Cocora, two of the specialty offerings. They were excellent! Highly recommend stopping in for drinks!

By far this is the best restaurant in the region! Everything we have tried has been really delicious and the prices are also great. Whoever that visits the town must come here.

A new and great restaurant in Salento. Probably one of the fancier restaurants in town - you’ll find more similar restaurants in Poblado, Medellin - but with great food and service too. Our waiter, Esteban, went out of his way to make our evening even better. A unexpected but nice surprise to find a restaurant like this in Salento.

El patio de mi casa hotel - apartamentos -restaurante tipico - apartamentos

Hotel
Restaurant
The El Patio de mi Casa hotel and restaurant offers a pleasant surprise with its range of vegetarian options, including an exceptional veggie burger. The vegetable protein used is of high quality and complements the burger's toppings of peppers and mushrooms, resulting in a delicious meal. The bread is perfectly toasted, but customers who prefer their burgers without cheese should remember to request it that way. For those who appreciate spicy food, the veggie diabla is a flavorful treat for the taste buds.
We spent 2 night in the hotel. The rooms were clean. The fornitures are old but everything works well. The restaurant is amazing (dios mio el patacon con carne què rico) and the prices are honest. Anyway, the best thing was Carlos. Nice tours and a lot of information for honest price. He is really trustworthy. We visited the park Valle Cocora with him and also the tour cafetero in the finca Momota where you can see a lot of variety of plants and not just coffee.

Walked in for a meal and stood in the entry waiting to be seated. 3 employees walked by and didn't even acknowledge me. So I left. If that's the start of the experience, it's unlikely to get better.

The service was excellent! We were leaving the city past check out and they had no issues holding our bags. The rooms were nice. Private bathroom. Basic and perfect to be honest. Nothing luxurious but it was exactly what my partner and I needed for our stay. Breakfast was GREAT as well. 10/10

The hotel has a great beautiful view. The staff was always very friendly and helpful. Specially Carolina was very attentive that everything with our stay was good… And breakfast was delicious.
Indalecio G — Google review
Terrible experience. We were a couple, they gave us a simple bed. Constant noise in the corridors from the receptionist family living next to our doors : baby crying, kids running in corridors, teenagers playing music… When we asked to keep it quiet at 11 pm, a man asked our family to leave the “hotel”! This is barely the standard of a hostel.
Francisco — Google review
We didn't stay here and only popped in a few times for a drink. Fantastic views, friendly service, wish we'd tried the food here. The views are fantastic and was one of our favourite places to have a chilled drink. WiFi signal strong for those that need it.

we didn't stay there but it is in a good location; we went there to eat Patacon; they have a huge terrasse in the back and they have many different toppings for their patacon. It was the best patacon I had my entire time in Colombia and the lady serving us was the nicest

BETATOWN SALENTO BETAHOTEL

Hotel
Restaurant
Tour operator
The BETATOWN SALENTO BETAHOTEL is a superb establishment situated in a charming and picturesque town. It offers numerous activities nearby, with horse riding being highly recommended for enthusiasts. The hotel's restaurant serves delectable cuisine, particularly their steak, though occasional mistakes with orders were observed. Language barriers might have contributed to these errors, but they were minor and overshadowed by the exceptionally friendly staff.
My family visits Salento and this hotel at least once a year. The staff at BetaTown are incredibly hospitable, kind, and attentive. Five stars every time!
Hayaa B — Google review
Our room was very basic and the “window” opened up to the corridor so we could not use it. The room became very hot during the night. The room had no soundproofing at all, meaning we could hear reception staff and other guests talking very clearly. The hot water was temperamental. The WiFi did not work at all in our room. This was very unhelpful in terms of onward travel planning. The location was great and the breakfast was appreciated.
K T — Google review
I absolutely enjoyed my stay at BetaTown in Salento. The hotel was in a great location with clean, perfectly sized rooms. The staff were all very friendly and the service was excellent, including the breakfast. They worked with us to accommodate a last minute coffee tour with an airport transfer. As a frequent traveller, I would highly recommend this hotel (and making a visit to Salento).

Highlights: - clean - 24h service - breakfast included - laundry service Great hotel in an easily accessible and central part of Salento. Stayed here for 3 days with my family and had a great time. Staff was very friendly and knowledgeable about the area.

First of let me start off with the bad stuff… THERE IS NONE! This is a wonderful place and the people are even better. Much better than a bigger hotel. If you have any hesitation just book it. Very cozy and comfortable. Super warm and friendly. They also have a great restaurant right across the street that has incredible food at a great price. We loved our stay and will stay here again when we come back to Salento.
Ilia A — Google review
We are a family of 4 and loved staying here. It is so clean and quiet. Close to walk everywhere, yet far enough away that it’s quiet. The staff were so wonderful. We were given breakfast coupons for the restaurant across the street, which again was AMAZING! We went for breakfast as well as dinner. Delicious food and great accommodations. Highly suggest staying here.
Maddy A — Google review
Great clean hotel in a very good location. Rooms are a good size, the beds are comfortable and the hot shower was good. Rooms were cleaned everyday too. Salento is very small so everything is within walking distance - lots of restaurants and Cafés nearby. The staff here are so friendly and helpful. It's a family run hotel and the two brothers (Jhoan and Pedro) helped to make our stay very memorable! They lived in the US for a decade so their English is perfect. They assisted with airport shuttles, Cocora hiking recommendations and other tours (horseback riding and coffee). Breakfast was good but simple. The restaurant itself is great for a meal and highly recommended during your stay. The staff even do a surprisingly good packed lunch if you want to do a full day of hiking. Laundry service is very fast and cheap, we used it almost everyday. WiFi signal was excellent throughout as well.

Such a sweet charming hotel on the mountain! My family and i had a wonderful stay at the beta hotel. The front desk was very helpful with all our excursion, transport needs and questions. Best Colombian food we’ve had in Colombia (and we’ve eaten lots of it) - as we arrived the chef’s friend was dropping off the fresh organic herbs and salad leaves for the evening’s meal prep, and it tasted delicious! So well seasoned, great sized portions and delicious creamy soups, staff so welcoming and kind. Proper Colombian food in a mostly very touristy town, with very very reasonable prices (28k COP for 1 menu del día). Muchas Gracias Alejandra!

Allowed us the try two different soups before we decided what soup we wanted to have.

Absolutely delicious and such great price! We went for the set menu and you get a juice too. The cream soup was absolutely banging!!! But so was the normal soup. The restaurant has received rave reviews for its delicious food, with popular choices including chicken chickpea curry and chicken and beef stir fry. The staff are known for being friendly and helpful, providing recommendations on places to visit.
It is really great restaurant with great service, quality is great but I think meals need more meat. I had chicken fajitas, plate looked amazing but it needed more chicken. I walked out still hungry yet left juicy tip. I’m posting some photos of served plate as well as menu as of February 2025. Other than that I highly recommend it. To the owners, as tourist we don’t want to be taken advantage of. We already pay tourist prices in Colombia. You have different rates for locals. It doesn’t look good and it makes us shop else where.

Fantastic food- I had the beef burger with chips. The chips are some of the nicest chips we've had in South america (in 5 months). The burger was really juicy and had a great taste. The place is also so pretty with a lovely atmosphere Most importantly, I forgot my bag there but only realised at around 9.40pm, and the restaurant shuts at 8pm. I found their number on goggle and called, the man picked up immediately, I explained what had happened and that I had a night but at 10.15pm. He said they had the bag and he'd meet my boyfriend there. He came to meet my boyfriend straight away and by 10 past 10 my boyfriend was back at the bus station with my bag. I cannot explain how grateful I am for this, the best service anyone could hope or dream of!

I just want to say that this is the best menu of the day I’ve had in Colombia. The ingredients felt like they were of really good quality and the vegetable soup I had before the main dish was absolutely amazing. The main dish has some very generous portions as well and the juice they give you on the side is also good. A big plus was also the fact that they were the only place in town still offering a menu of the day after 4 pm and it was definitely worth it for the price paid.

Highly recommend for a fantastic dining experience!

Food is amazing especially the Venezualian specialties. We spoke with one of the waitresses and she was so kind and helpful. She gave us some tips of where to go in Medellin and Bogota. Amazing experience 😊

I ate the Pabellón Criollo and it was absolutely perfect! Wholesome, hearty food and a beautiful way to finish off a great day in Salento. Would 100% recommend!

Delicious dinner, we had the beef and chicken and was unreal. Drinks were also off the charts. All for very reasonable price.

I travel very often, Matecaña is one of the best airports I have ever been. Great, warm and lovely people, very good service. The airport is very organised and modern. Even the taxi drivers make you feel secure, fair prices. Love it and going to come back very soon. Police still need a lot to improve.

Brand new airport in Pereira. Clean, organized and just the right size…Small enough to be easy to navigate, big enough to handle international flights. Several shops and a few restaurants. Staff was helpful and friendly.

Fast checkpoint, biometric system is very fast to get to terminals, hand 🧳 luggage check to slow, food so expensive,$35 dollars for 3 coffees one tea,and 4 pandebonos

Good little airport. Plenty of food, snack, coffee options around. When you get past the gate, there's still a few places to buy things.

Beautiful airport, and not far from the city center. Easy to get an uber from here, keep in mind uber is easier to get if you go to the departure level, and avoid the taxi area. The airport feels fresh and modern.

Changing gates no announcement you literally have to watch the screen and triple check the information every 60 seconds. Employees have no idea what they are doing, my ticket says gate 2 i am at GATE 2 and im told to go to Gate 3. GATE 3 looks at me like im drunk and says go to Gate 2. The airport is more concerned with RUNNING ADDS then heading passengers. I was trying to have a calm quiet conversation with a lady at the gate and her co worker starts interrupting our conversation like a panicked child. I look at him and say excuse me we are trying to have a conversation is someone on fire? Worst experience ever in an airport.

Nice new or newly remodeled airport. Lots of regional flights. Clean, easy to get to and from. Restaurants before and inside the gate area. When a visitor is arriving you can wait upstairs and see them come in for the welcome.

Depending on the airline you are traveling with, make sure to arrive with plenty of time to spare, as they may only have a couple of counters open to support a single flight and, whether you'd like to ask a question or require check-in assistance, there aren't any options supporting self check-in. The airport has wifi options available as well as an airport launch.

El Edén International Airport

Decent small airport with clean bathrooms and facilities including Chapel. It even has a small business lounge. Staff are helpful and friendly.

There is a lunch place that has a bandeja vegetariana plate. This is before you would go thru security. Very small airport. There were some yellow birds flying around inside but parts of the building are "open air" so it was easy for them to fly out.

Not a pleasant airport. The WiFi doesn’t work at all and I can’t find any outlets either around the waiting area with the two cafes. I have my boarding pass already but was told security is closed till under 2 hours before the flight departure. It’s a shame because it would have been nice to use the lounge post security, charge my phone and connect to wifi.

The one and only international airport in Quindio´s district. I still miss the old design.

It’s unbelievable that an international airport has no AC or even fans, when the temperatures can reach 30C and above. As a passenger is very uncomfortable, and it’s even worse for the people to work there, to be doing their job under such heat.

El progresso Aqui se quedo debiendo! Outdated and a very complicated system.. Basic Harassment to all international flight inbound and outbound not seen or experienced in other Airports in Colombia...

Very nice views (some of the best I’ve ever seen). However the infrastructure is not the best (no A/C, only one scanner when traveling international) and that makes it quite uncomfortable. That being said, they’re improving the installations and soon there will be a completely new terminal (maybe will be ready by early or mid 2019). This airport does not have boarding gates and instead you board through stairs which might be an issue for travelers on wheelchairs; however the staff is so nice that I’m sure they’d offer the best they can do and I personally love to board through stairs because you can take pictures and see the aircraft closer. Hopefully the improvements won’t kill the magic!

Travel with Wingo or Spirit anytime (day or night) is a hell, those airlines have the gate in the second floor, no AC, no fan, 80°F at night and crowded, one time cross the check point it's over, no open stores during the night, just the vendor machine with some items that run over quickly (bring something to eat), no screen to see your flight status or someone who give information. Wingo usually is delay, no matter what, they never bring you on time. All the airlines call to board to leave everyone in another line next to the plane (rain, heat, noise, gas odor). Armenia deserves a better airport administration, to keep the "International" status.
