A majestic and spiritually rich temple dating back to the 14th century, Wat Yai is one of the most revered Buddhist sites in Thailand. The centerpiece is Phra Phuttha Chinnarat, a stunning golden Buddha statue considered one of the most beautiful in the country. The main hall is adorned with intricate gold-and-red patterns, crystal chandeliers, and detailed murals — a breathtaking sight that reflects both artistry and devotion. It’s not just a tourist attraction but a living temple where locals come to pray and pay respect. Whether you're seeking peace, beauty, or a deeper cultural experience, this temple delivers it all. Verdict: A sacred masterpiece of Thai spirituality — timeless, tranquil, and awe-inspiring.

Wat Nang Phaya

Buddhist temple
Sights & Landmarks
Wat Nang Phaya is an elaborate temple complex that features ornate pavilions and shrines adorned with rich decorations. It houses a large golden Buddha statue and is considerably less crowded than neighboring temples despite being equally holy. Its history dates back several years, and it is renowned for being the birthplace of the famous amulet/small Buddha image Phra Nang Phaya.
A visit to this temple for Nang Phaya Amulet from temple counter. A historical temple worth visiting especially the peacefulness. Amulets from 2514, 2555 mass chanting ceremonies and modern years are available in temple.
A — Google review
Wat Nang Phaya: It is believed, based on various sources, that Phra Visutthikathari, the queen consort of King Maha Thammaracha and the mother of King Naresuan, established Wat Nang Phaya during the restoration of Wat Ratchaburana, around 2090–2100 BE. At that time, Phitsanulok was a royal city, and the queen held the position of the governor of Songkhwae, while King Maha Thammaracha held the title of Uparaja (deputy king) of Ayutthaya. If you have some free time, it is recommended to visit and experience something new in Phitsanulok Province.
Suthan C — Google review
It's temlple beaide the temple which have the most beautiful buddha.
The W — Google review
One of Pitsanulok's historic temples is Wat Nang Phaya. There is nothing wrong with the location, only my emotions. I was quite dismayed to see what they had done with it. The temple has a walkway surrounding it that is similar to the ones found in other temples. There are trash piles along the path rather than Buddha statues. Finding the ideal angle for your shot is really difficult inside the temple. There are numerous setting blocks outside that hide the lovely thing. I feel very down.
Anatchai N — Google review
Very beautiful temple with plenty of parking lot. I visited this place 4 years ago before come back here. The fortune telling stick (เซียมซี) is quite accurate (for me).
AC — Google review
Exponentially less crowded than the neighboring temple with no difference in holiness. We’d love to encourage all the buddhists across the country to come visit here more. Your peace of mind will be redeemed, or even reconstructed.
Chawin O — Google review
Another long historical temple, not sure when it was built. One of the famous amulet/small Buddha image “Phra Nang Phaya” originated here. Located just beside Wat Phra Si Rattana Mahathat, nearby Nan river.
Seksan L — Google review
Simply beautiful, every bit as much as Wat Phra Si Rattana. Almost nobody there too, making for a calm contemplative experience.

Buranathai Buddha Casting Foundry (Cha Thavi)

Mentioned on
+5 other lists
Manufacturer
Located near the Sergeant Major Thawee Folk Museum, the Buranathai Buddha Casting Foundry is a fascinating place where bronze Buddha images of various sizes are crafted. Visitors are invited to observe the casting process and explore photo exhibits showcasing the lost-wax method of metal casting. Some larger images can take over a year to complete. It's recommended to visit with a local guide for deeper insights into the manufacturing process and history behind these sculptures.
Interesting place, I came here after visiting the SGT. MAJ. Folk Museum nearby. It's nice to see the different steps of how a Buddha status is made. I think you'll have a better understanding if you get a (local) guide to join you here for more info but no must.
Christof V — Google review
This Buddha image casting factory is located in downtown Phitsanulok, just across the street and belonging to Sgt. Major Thawee museum. Visiting the factory is included in your museum ticket and do not skip it. You'll see how Buddha images are crafted manually with high skill workers - from small pieces to giant ones, amazing artwork on display. There's a small gift shop, however don't expect night market prices, but much higher which is quite reasonable as you can tell the craftmanship difference
Dejan B — Google review
Interesting for anyone who wants to know how the many, many Buddha statues in Thailand are made. And of course you can also buy a Buddha statue here.
Koen — Google review
I went out of my way to go here and they were really not friendly or welcoming. I even went to their store first thing and bought multiple items before taking photos. No one smiled or even said hello. Pretty disappointing.
Paula S — Google review
I visited this place in 2005 (which is also when the pictures posted were taken) and I was very interested to learn about the methods used in the manufacture of Buddha images.
Phil H — Google review
Definitely worth a visit! Some people disappointed according to reviews, sorry they got no time to chitchat with you, this is their job allright! Just look with your eyes and plenty of text to read or to translate with your phone.
Schemerlicht A — Google review
Mildly interesting, worth a brief stop, but no more than that.

Buddhist statue casting factory. Friendly craftmen and staff. The small Buddha images available here are appropriate for souvenirs.

Phra Buddha Chinnarat

Mentioned on

Buddhist temple
Phra Buddha Chinnarat, also known as Luang Por Yai or Phra Buddha-Chinnaraj, is a revered gilded Buddha image located in the prayer hall of Wat Phra Sri in Phitsanulok. This landmark features a flamelike halo and is the second most revered statue in Thai Buddhism. The temple itself showcases Northern Thai architecture and is adorned with depictions of Lord Buddha's life.
The grandest temple in Phitsanulok I supposed. The main hall is full of devotees praying, making merits, and taking photos. Interior is really majestic with all the shimmer and shine. I lost track of time here trying to find my inner peace as I watch the devotees posing with the Buddha statue. There is an inner temple ground where foreigners have to pay 40b to enter. Ticket counter near the main hall.
Wilson Y — Google review
This is a must see. Thb 40 for non Thai but absolutely worth it
Tom V — Google review
It's the most beautiful buddhist statue in Thailand. It's very shiney and gold. The room where the statue is also bery gorgeous. There were so many people were visitng for pray.
The W — Google review
Most popular temple in Phitsanulok. Visited here every time I came this city. Inside its splendid hall the gold Buddha was there over centuries. The outside of the temple is pure white decorated with golden paintings. Open 6pm till 6pm and most of time they hold pray time at around 5pm.
George — Google review
Top attraction of this town, full with tourists, hundred choices of bustiness for believer - so it's mostly annoying place to visit. Wall painting is beautiful but bad maintain.
赤楚神愛 — Google review
Very nice. Although I dont know what the 3 incense and lotus bud represe t.
The F — Google review
The most famous temple in this city. Possibly at least a thousand of people visit this temple daily. This inside of the temple is very beautiful and interesting.
Jerry N — Google review
This site holds the second most revered statue in Thai Buddhism, the Phra Budtasishinarat. A 14th century casting of three statues one of which still resides here in Phitsanulok. It's unique for it halo which looks aflame while still following the rules of Sukhothai era statues. The temple itself is a nice example of Northern Thai architecture and the main hall is decorated with stories from the life of Lord Buddha. Around the hall are statue halls, alcoves and a few very nice stupa or chedis as well as a drum and bell tower. Toilets are clean and the souvenirs surprisingly good quality and a fair price. If you are going north you should visit this temple, but remember to respect the local culture and dress modestly.

Interesting museum that shows how people used to live. A HUGE display of all kinds of worktools and things that were common back then. I really liked how they had built up life size huts and rooms that in a very authentic way shows old living rooms, bedrooms, children’s rooms and so on. The museum is situated in a beautiful old wooden house as for itself is an experience just to walk around it. You can easily spend a couple of hours here if you want to see everything in detail. Foreigners pay 100 bath for the entrance. This is a must see place for all with a bit of interest in how Thailand was many many years ago
Kasper H — Google review
Very interesting and many old artifacts and farm impliments. The collector was a talented and interesting artist. Spent 2 hours.
Ross T — Google review
Learning center about old ways of living in Thailand. A nostalgic journey down the memory lane for old-timers. All open air, no air conditioning, so it can be a bit too warm and uncomfortable walking around. Not many visitors at all. Street parking only. With the cheap admission and the close proximity to the airport, it’s a stop worth visiting for an hour or so on your way to the airport.
Mars U — Google review
Excellent museum with plentiful artefacts, displays and antiques stretching across Thai history to the prehistoric age. Foreigner 100 baht
Joseph K — Google review
Definitely worth the visit to take time to read the excellent detailed exhibit signage in both Thai and skillfully translated English. No shortcuts were taken in the translations. Good for those interested in increasing understanding of a cross section of history, art, and much more through the life's work of an individual and specialized artist and the legacy he humbly created.
Taiga O — Google review
Very nice museum showing about the history of Thailand and Phitsanulok. All information are given in English and Thai language. We lived it. Its very nicely presented and looked after. I am in love with place!!! I am glad that we made a move to visit to this museum. We took a metered taxi service to get there, from Topland Hotel, it costs us 66baht fares. (You can take Grab too) Beautiful ancient collection, bring back a lot of nostalgia memories (for me). We bought the ticket for 50baht (each) and it worthy! Wonderful place to experience Thai ancient tools & equipment, history, art & crafts and many more. There is a mini mart in the museum, where you can get some cold beverages to refresh yourself! Very peaceful on this Saturday noon. The ancient Chedi is stunning, I feel calm in this temple, resting while listening to the chattering of birds. And watching the gang of dogs patrolling the temple ground.

In Ayutthaya, maintenance fees are levied to preserve this form of historical remnants. Admission to the site is offered at no cost. This magnificent edifice is located in a countryside region where the lack of financial backing poses challenges for its upkeep. I extensively explored the entirety of the ruins without encountering any grievances.
One of the oldest temples in Phitsanulok. I really enjoyed the vibes here. It is quiet and peaceful. Ancient ruins can still be found here.

The cozy spot is perfect for a leisurely lunch followed by an exploration of the surrounding area.
This restaurant serves a tasty mixture of vege and non vege food. My favourite dish was the beef burger patty on mashed potatoes with gravy, which was sooo delicious and which I ate almost everyday. Definitely worth checking out.

The name is deceiving in that it serves more non-vegetarian options than the vegan ones. So beware. The choices are very limited. Th food is served hot and it’s fairly yummy.
Dennis O — Google review
Sadly despite the name, there’s no obvious vegan menu. Although you can ask the owner and they can customize a few menu to make it vegan like pumpkin or corn soup for a savory menu. Others you can get vegan are tofu salad, fried onion rings, potato chips or other appetizers. The drinks can be vegan, I really recommend the tropical smoothie, super refreshing in a hot day. The atmosphere in the cafe is a chill vibe with nice thoughtful decorations.

Nice to find some real salads. We tried the citrus salad and the veggies salad. Delicious salad dressings on both. The citrus salad would have been a bit better with something crunchy in it, but overall very happy with both salads.

A hidden gem in Phitsanulok Short walking distance from the train station This is not a pure vegetarian cafe They do have meat and seafood menu Price wise - slight higher if you compare locally You should spend a lazy afternoon here for a meal and soda while enjoying the smoothing music Thankful to be here.
Jason L — Google review
Sooo expensive - 170 Baht for a Veggie Burger - but it also was very very good!! Probably one of the best veggie burgers I've had (unfortunately the picture doesn't look so good) - no burger patty but pumpkin, asparagus, mushrooms, fresh tomato and salad plus deliciously curry spiced burger sauce, the burger came with potato wedges. But I expected more vegetarian food because of the name...the menu had one short page with vegetarian options - the other dishes were with meat. They have soups, salads, main dishes with meat, burgers, desserts and drinks.

Rustic demolition look, food was good and reasonably quick and tasty. English spoken and English menu all food lived up to the picture presented in menu.

Kanomjeen Ton Kam Pu

Thai restaurant
Kanomjeen Ton Kam Pu is a popular Thai restaurant known for its delicious traditional Kanomjeen dish. Located in Phitsanulok province, the restaurant offers a variety of curry options to accompany the rice noodles, including Nham Ngieng, Green chicken curry, Crab curry, Nham Prik, and Nham Yaa. The ambience is pleasant as it's situated beneath trees and provides a cool dining experience.
The snakehead fish curry with rice noodles from Kaampu restaurant offers a rich, mildly spicy flavor with a fragrant aroma from the herbs, leaning more towards sweet and spicy. I also recommend the grilled giant river prawn!! The meat is so sweet and firm!! The prawn's head contains rich fat, adding flavor and aroma, eating with spicy seafood dipping sauce enhances the overall taste. Delicious!!
Benjaphorn S — Google review
For me, the Khanom Jeen Namya from this shop is very delicious. The atmosphere is decorated in a Northern Thai style. I like that they provide free raw and cooked vegetables. Their northern food is also delicious. I had fresh coconut milk ice cream for dessert. There is parking inside or you can park on the roadside. If you come at noon, there will probably be a lot of people.
Mmhewy S — Google review
Nice place for rice noodle and thai northern food. Very good thai northern curry. Northern thai sausage was good. Large parking lots. There was golf cart service available for transfer from parking to restaurant.
Phanusorn C — Google review
This restaurant offers a great variety of food. The kanom jeen with curry was delicious, and the Sai Ua (northern sausage), papaya salad, and grilled chicken were equally delightful. Crab fried rice was so-so. The selection of traditional Thai desserts was a wonderful treat. You can pick and choose from the counter. The waitress was very patient, taking the time to explain each dish to us. The food service was fast, making our dining experience even more enjoyable.

great cafe at the back of a service station. all day breakfasts, good burgers and desserts. plus flat white coffee
Stuart ( — Google review
This restaurant is well designed and the decors, especially the paintings, were amusing. The food tastes good and the portions are big enough to be shared by two. The desserts were impressive, they have limited choices but they were awesome. The drinks were average, I could have liked it more if they served them as how they looked on the menu. Speaking of, the food menu doesn't have photos and no descriptions. The crispy bacon pasta was spicy and it wasn't not specified so my friend requested for extra carbonara sauce just to neutralize the taste. It took a while but they were courteous enough to serve it. Over all, this restaurant is a-okay comparing to other restos around here. Just be prepared to spend a little bit more than usual since it's a bit pricey.

Great Latte. Pad krapow very spicy but our fault for not asking mai pet. Menu no longer in English and all day breakfast no longer available. Nice aircon atmosphere and easy to park as behind the Shell station.

Completely impressive dessert shop in Phisanulok. Various fancy menus for sweet lover and also western style maincourse. A bit high price but worth paying. Love!

If you are looking for something to eat with a Western flare, this is the place to go. Their burger tastes like really burger, no sweet sauce! Carbonara is authentic. Try also their home made cut fries, house blend coffee, and selection of cakes. Additional review: smoked pork barbecue is a new must-try! Ask for their new specials which is in a separate menu.

Customers praise the big pieces of chicken in the noodles and appreciate the friendly staff.
I ate here many times when I come to Phs. The portion is so big and taste really good. However, they dont have their own parking area, u have to park on road. It’s really worth to try 🎊

Outstanding chicken noodle soup! The (huge chicken leg) just falls off the bone. The soup is well balanced and their toasted chilli and chilli sauce are tasty additions. At only 40baht a bowl it’s incredibly good value for money. A must stop for lunch if passing through Phitsanulok.

Poor facility, no parking lots and the street in front of the place is always occupied with motorbikes, so people who come to eat must always keep driving around for few rounds until they find a space to park. This disadvantage has overshadowed its magnificent taste of the burger totally.

A must go cafe in Phitsanulok. We ordered 4 drinks and 3 pieces of cake and it’s all delicious. It’s all homemade cake and bakery. Prices are reasonable. The decoration is simple but cool. And the location is nice, it’s next to the main road. The owner is a couple, male owner making coffee, and female owner making bakery. They are friendly, and the atmosphere is nice. Good taste, but due to some interrupt in the kitchen (I think.) it's make my fried rice so slow. Everything is ready just wait for the rice, for average, I think it's good but I want to comment something about fried rice, If you want to ordered it, prepared for a long time of waiting, and the taste of my fried rice is not good as other stuff on my table. Oh something, service here is good, BUT so slowwww.. If you wanna have a lunch or dinner, you have to have a lot of time. Just that.

Why all Hop Inn Hotels are always in a very noisy spot? Directly at the main road. The rooms were ok for a budget 2 Star Hotel but I had to show as a residence my passport. Usually the Thai driving license is enough because of the passport number is also on it. I was lucky I had my passport with me. Otherwise they would not let me check in and charge the full price. This is a discrimination against foreign residence and it never happen before as a residence in any country or hotel. Hop Inn never again.

Regional airport
A regional airport located in the south of Phitsanulok that has a tiny terminal. Three airlines, FD, DD and SL operate a total of 5 daily domestic fights from here to DMK. The terminal includes a coffee shop and couple souvenir stores that you can buy snacks from. There are plenty of telecom and car rental stands on the east wing of the terminal right next to the coffee shop. Parking lot is right infront if the terminal and fully outdoor.

A small domestic airport at Phitsanulok. There is only 1 air bridge, for the plane not using the bridge, the passengers have to walk under the weather, no matter it’s sunny or rainy. But the luggage is delivered is fast as you can see them drive to the belt from the window of the baggage area. The terminal itself is also not big, with a few shops available only.

Phitsanulok Airport is a small but well-managed airport that makes traveling smooth and stress-free. The toilets are clean and well-maintained, and the staff provides friendly and helpful service from check-in to boarding. The airport is not crowded, so the atmosphere feels calm and comfortable, making it easy to navigate. Traveling through here is very convenient, especially for domestic flights. The only thing to note is that there are limited options for breakfast or coffee in the early morning, so it’s a good idea to grab something to eat before arriving if you have an early flight. Overall, it’s a pleasant and efficient airport for a short trip.

Flights into and out of Bangkok operate from this airport. There are lots of taxi services here. You’ll find a cheap rental car service operating in the carpark. They don’t have an office or a booth, you’ll find a representative standing in the far left of the carpark (if you’re looking at the carpark once you exit the airport). The rental car service is near where you’ll Find several cars that have their windscreen wipers pointing into the air. This airport is no aged about 8 minutes from the CBD. There are some small stores located the airport.

Sukhothai Airport

Airport
Sukhothai Airport is a unique and charming departure or arrival point for travelers. Unlike typical airports, it features small traditional Thai buildings surrounded by curated gardens with canals and even animals like zebras. Despite its small size and distance from the city center, the airport offers a pleasant experience with an information point to purchase tickets for accommodations. However, transportation to Sukhothai old or new town may be challenging without private car arrangements due to limited public transport options.
Sukhothai Airport is a small yet charming airport that truly reflects the warmth of the province. The open-air design and lush gardens create a relaxing, resort-like feel from the moment you arrive. Though small in size, it is well-maintained, clean, and efficiently managed. Check-in and boarding are smooth, and the friendly staff make the experience even more pleasant. The atmosphere is peaceful, far from the hustle of big city airports, making it a unique and memorable gateway to Sukhothai.
Chuleephan P — Google review

WOW......A totally stunning airport from the moment you land, its not like any airport you normally visit, it's visually stunning and let's you know what you're in for with the rest of the region. One of my favourite areas in Thailand.
Alan H — Google review
A very small but quite beautiful airport quite far from Sukhothai city itself (due to the regulations). There are roughly 2 flights flying in and out between bangkok and sukhothai as of writing this review. However there is a flight training school call Bangkok Air Training Center (BATC) that operates here at Bangkok Airways owned airport. Wonderful place and definitely will be back here soon eventually.
Chattapol C — Google review
I read that getting a taxi on Grab app to go to the airport is difficult. I managed to get someone after several denied my request and he said the amount on Grab is too little and ask 600 bht There are no taxis waiting outside the airport either so you might want to prearrange a pick up. The airport opens 1 hr before the flight but there are plenty of places to sit with shade and explore. They really invested in the grounds around the small airport so that passengers have something to do while they wait. There's a cafe, a kids playground, temple, random zoo with 2 giraffes and zebras spread out over a large area. Inside the small terminal building.. there is a charging station to plug in your phone, complimentary snacks and beverages, washrooms, comfortable seating and many large turbo fans
Angela C — Google review
There is certainly a lot of promise in the location and Sukhothai is a lovely place with beautiful temples, and obviously a lot of time and money has been invested in Sukhothai Airport by Bangkok Airways (the owners), though it needs some serious marketing to draw more tourists to really flourish, and as much as I hate to say it, more transparent, honest people there. The staff need to actually want to be there, be more friendly, and help tourists if it is to ever become a truly popular destination similar to somewhere like Angkor Wat and other similar world-class historical monuments that people travel great distances to visit! Sukhothai has the monuments and the history, just not quite the infrastructure that is needed in key areas, like taxis. The biggest gripe we had is that firstly Grab say they service the area, though don't expect anyone to show up when you try to book a ride from them when you reach the airport. Oh, you can book the ride, though don't expect anyone to take the job and show up, and there are also no taxi ranks at the airport with waiting taxis where you can just get a taxi. We attempted to book on Grab twice on arrival, then gave up after 30 minutes as there were no drivers. After asking someone about taxis when we realised we were likely to get stranded at airport due to non-existent service infrastructure, I spoke with a few people and get told there's a taxi available, though the comment that really annoyed me after asking how much it was, was "it's 1,000 baht, or you can just wait until tomorrow". This person also, we found out later, turned out to be the "taxi" driver, who was also the cafe attendant (and who knows what other hats). After gritting my teeth, considering Grab's non-existent service was quoting 350 baht, and after paying them, we were told to wait in the car park. Imagine our surprise when the same person we had just paid the money to at the cafe shows up with their own personal car to also provide our "taxi" like some supposed saviour, which also seems to have coincided with her closing the shop for the night and going home into town. It was hardly the welcome my wife and I were expecting when we arrived in "beautiful Sukhothai" and I sat there during the car the entire trip to Sukhothai town gritting my teeth and barely containing my anger. On the upside, not all of the staff were like that, and all of the rest of the people we met in Sukhothai were lovely. On our return journey to Bangkok, we did eventually meet a nice, honest driver in Sukhothai and he only charged us 600 baht from our hotel to the airport, so be careful as the airport staff, due to limited tourist numbers, seem to be quite happy to extort tourists due to lack of available services or options (and frankly, no wonder if you're going to treat tourists like idiots). So much for "Asia's Boutique Airline" and to be frank, if Bangkok Airways ever wants to really see their niche airports succeed they need to get rid of leeches like that taxi driver. You don't pretend to be able to book a taxi for someone, take a booking, then go out the back and switch hats to suddenly become the taxi driver. A bit of honesty, candour and transparency would have made our experience at Sukhothai Airport far more pleasant and it's a real shame as I can see how much work has been put into the design of the airport to have it essentially be like a ghost town with maybe 100 passengers maximum arriving per day. Seeing the store owners sitting there all day to sell a few hundred baht in sales is sad, and it could be so much more. To be frank, I'd rather see a few taxis waiting at the airport with reasonably priced fares than zebras and giraffes and security dressed as game wardens... I came to Thailand to see Thai culture and the historical monuments, so why not have the airport security dressed in traditional Thai historical clothing with headbands, ponytails and fake swords or something, and have them doing photos together with tourists? Personally if I wanted the "big game" experience I'd go to Africa.
Christian B — Google review
The airport is stunning, but unfortunately the staff doesn’t know what online check-in is. I had boarding passes for all the tickets on my phone, but the staff didn’t accept it. They ended up wasting lots of time taking all the passports of my group and giving us paper boarding passes. Unpleasant experience after an amazing trip in Sukhothai! Hope the airport staff can do better next time🙏
Phil F — Google review
It is a beautiful and charming airport to land. Ground crew is very helpful. The airport is a short ride away from the city with a lot to see. I would visit multiple times a year if the landing fees are not so high. The zoo and temple next to the airport are the bonus. Looking forward to return to the airport again.
