Eudora Welty House & Garden

Sights & Landmarks
The Eudora Welty House & Garden, located in the Belhaven University area of Jackson, was the former residence of renowned American author Eudora Welty for nearly 80 years. The Tudor Revival-style home, built by her parents in 1925, boasts a meticulously maintained garden planted by Welty's mother.
Ok. I am going to be honest here. I had not heard of Eudora Welty. I was looking around Jackson for things to do, found this house and did some research, and oh my goodness, what have I deprived myself of? She was witty, an explorer, a traveler, funny, snarky. The tour of the house was lovely. You start with a video that displays her humor and caring. The house was understated and lovely. So many books! I wanted to pick one up and smell the paper and ink. I would recommend this tour to anyone.
Andrea F — Google review
We arrived at the house but they were repaving the street outside so it was difficult to find a place to park. Should not be a problem now. The exhibit house displays her awards for her writing and some of her items that she owned. There are signs that tell a little about her life. This is where you start and wait for the tour guide. Once you go next door with the tour guide you get to explore Eudora's house as it was while she lived there. I really liked her books strewn about the house, it made me connect with her as that's they way my books are often displayed :-) Eudora had approximately 5,000 books. I've got to step up my collection! Ha! It's pretty cool to see where she worked and hear stories of her life. Eudora was a prolific writer, writers write! Her garden was lovingly restored to its former glory with help from Eudora's photos. She climbed out of her upstairs window on the roof to take pictures of the flowers and garden rooms below. The docent was extremely knowledgeable and engaging. Although the tour was 2 hours long it seemed much shorter and was well worth the 4 hour drive we took to get there. One other thing to note, Wednesdays have free admission, though the cost on other days is worth it.
Jeff S — Google review
Mississippi College has a jazz concert here every year and we love it! The grounds are very nice and the house is such a lovely setting. This is one of my favorite venues for jazz outside. I’m so glad MC’s band performs here. Can’t wait to come tour the inside of the house!
Sandra S — Google review
Was walking by and noticed the little free library, So stopped to check it out. Someone who worked there told me about the gardens, and informed me it was free to walk through and enjoy and open anytime during daylight hours. Very nice gardens, and home. You can tell it has been well preserved and taken care of. A lot of information was available about the gardens, and the famous author just from what I had seen outside. I’d love to come back when the house is open for a tour. Definitely a nice gem in the historical Belhaven community.
Marcia P — Google review
We came here straight from the airport and arrived about 30 minutes before closing on a Saturday. Sadly we missed the tour of the house but we were able to take some beautiful pictures outside. The young woman in the visitors center was so lovely and told us about the audio tour as well as the flower scavenger hunt (for my kids). The gardens were beautiful and when we returned to say goodbye she even recommended a book for us and stamped it with the the Eudora house stamp! A lovely first stop on our Spring Break in Mississippi!
Tracy C — Google review
I knew next to nothing about Eudora Welty. But my wife was a fan. So we stopped here on a literary tour of the South. I was impressed with the house and gardens. Like any museum, it is frozen in time. Books are stacked on sofas, beds, and chairs, just as they would have been if you visited Eudora in her life. You get an unfiltered peek into her life. The visitor center gives your a good primer on her, her writings, and her life. Start your tour there with a 20 minute film. Then explore the displays therein. You'll want to come back after your tour of the house and gardens to pick out a souvenir from the gift shop.
Phil B — Google review
Touring the house and garden was an amazing experience! During 2025 they're offering free tours on Wednesdays in honor of the 100th anniversary of the house. I had no idea how rich a life she lived - now I want to read everything she wrote!
Dee W — Google review
My 2nd visit today, 9/17/2025. Mrs. Welty and I share the same birthday!!! 😃 The tour is free each Wednesday in 2025 and on the 13th of each month all year long. Taking a 2nd tour allowed me to visit garden while flowers are blooming. The garden is simply beautiful and there is a guided 20 minute tour per recording. I truly enjoyed the tour and the details. I’ve lived maybe 20 miles from this National Historic Landmark and have never gone until now. The tours are every 2 hours so check schedule on website. They also have limited space for each tour. There is a store with books and other items to purchase. Entrance is free on the 13th of every month which I didn’t know but happened to go on the 13th. Her awards are displayed in the house with bookstore. The tour guide Sam stated that after she passed they found them in a closet under a stack of books or papers. She never hung any of them. Well, she loved to write and didn’t do it to win prizes. Before the tour you will watch a 20 minute video. Eudora Welty is speaking, sharing and sometimes reading from one of her books. I absolutely love that they give tours of house. The tour guide gave detailed information. You are allowed to take photos but have to stay on the gray carpet. The home is decorated circa 1980. All of Eudora Welty books seem to be laying as she may have left them before passing. There are 3,000 books in her home. 2,000 are at MDAH. She donated the house to MDAH long before passing. Her parents purchased the home in 1925. They wanted to live across the street from Belhaven College. There is so much history in the home and the garden is so beautiful and inviting. I also love the side pitch attached to home. I highly recommended taking the time to visit this site if you are a history and/or garden lover.

With an extensive collection exceeding 5,500 pieces, visitors can immerse themselves in a rich tapestry of artistic expression ranging from pre-Columbian artifacts to contemporary masterpieces. The museum's highlight is 'The Mississippi Story,' an ongoing exhibition featuring over 200 works that delve into the state's vibrant visual arts history.
Great art museum! It's clean, modern, and quiet. Super chill place to escape too. Lots of interesting mixed media artwork to look at for free. Highly recommended!
Jeffrey B — Google review
I'm sorry, I really wanted to like this place. I love art museums and just museums in general. This place has great potential with a huge building and somewhat interesting courtyard but unfortunately those were the best things about it. We went in thinking it would be free or low cost and it cost $15 each for my wife and I. Then we walked around and there was very little art only a few blankets hung on the wall. Admittedly they had a temporary blanket exhibit going in but I thought they would have some interesting permanent exhibits as well. They didn't. It was a pretty disappointing visit. I'll include my favorite photo from this place. We had just come from the Eudora Welty House museum and it was awesome. Skip this place and visit Eudora's home (if you visit on Wednesday it's free also!)

This is an incredible institution. The art is world class in both aesthetic and historic value, and I’m so happy to have this right here in Jackson ♥️♥️♥️

This is a Blue Star Museum My favorite part of this museum was the GARDEN!!! It’s absolutely beautiful and has a very unique design. There is a Cspire stage with plenty of tables. There is a swing, fountain and so much more. They have the 2025 Invitational Artist and Jerrod Partridge is the best hands down. His art is simply beautiful with his handmade paper. There were other artist who caught eye but he is THE BES!! Stephanie and Stacy were so very kind and professional. You must check out the gift shop. The children you see in photo are in their summer camp. They wanted to show me how they hola hoop. The one little girl in video made it clear to me that she was THE BEST! The museum has an area where you can draw an object that represents you! They have a book nook and area to create art. I definitely will return to enjoy these areas. I highly recommend visiting this wonderful museum.

One of our favorite things to do is visit art museums, so we were happy to see that Jackson had an art museum. We visited on a Saturday and the place was not too busy. We paid $15.00 each to experience all the exhibits, and it was well worth it. The art collection is not the most impressive I have seen as there were no works from any of the great masters. With that being said, the exhibits left me feeling uneasy and had an impact I had never experienced during previous visits to other art museums. The "What happened to Dr. Smith" exhibit was really profound and provided an intimate connection with the artist in dealing with what obviously was a highly personal, and I am sure painful, journey. The artwork conveyed the sadness of the devastating consequences of mental illness and the history of the suffering of the afflicted, going from a promising medical practice to a state run asylum. I was so impressed by the personal connection the artist achieved in researching his grandfather's plight, and translating it into such an engaging, emotional experience for me, through some brush strokes on canvas. The museum also explored other uncomfortable topics through the art on display, dealing with race and other difficult subjects. As I said, I have never had an experience where the art seemed to resonate so deeply to feelings that left me somewhat uncomfortable, but isn't that what art should do? I definitely recommend the experience.

Had a great visit. Really enjoyed the quilt exhibit “Of Salt and Spirit”. It really showcased the talent of the women who made them and each quilt told its own story.
Jennifer M — Google review
The museum very interesting art. The collections was about 50-50 good and mediocre art. the artwork had a slanted point of view. More about a particular point of view, then the quality of artwork. I found the surrounding gardens, beautiful as well as interesting.
Robert G — Google review
This is a wonderful museum and grounds. Visited at the beginning of September as part of our Jackson roadtrip stop. Entrance was free and there was plenty of great pieces and interesting installations. But by far, the best part, was the kids’ section! My daughter absolutely loved it, so much in fact, that every art museum we visited after she complained that it wasn’t an art museum because she wasn’t allowed to make any art. Which, hard arguing with that logic to a 5 year old 😅 The space is smaller but if you’re bringing kids it’s honestly better, because you don’t leave feeling like you missed a whole section or a whole floor, etc. Overall, highly recommended!

Natural History Museums
Nestled within the scenic LeFleurs Bluff State Park, the Mississippi Museum of Natural Science is a sprawling indoor and outdoor museum that offers an immersive experience in Jackson and south-central Mississippi's rich biodiversity. Established in 1933, this expansive center features permanent and rotating exhibits, including dinosaur fossils, a greenhouse known as 'The Swamp,' an aquarium with over 200 native aquatic species, and a gift shop.
What an exciting place! Admission is reasonable. There is a large parking lot. The day I went, was during a time period when they were doing an Easter egg hunt, and it was just too cute watching the kids going around counting. An outdoor trail of dinosaurs was lovely. I liked how they had plants and animals organized by region of the state. It was all well thought out and put together. I really enjoyed it.
Andrea F — Google review
Absolutely loved it! The exhibits were fun and engaging. My three year old son loved all of the live animals. Also, Mrs. Jennifer spent time in a classroom showing my son various snakes, turtles, salamanders, and more. The staff were super friendly. I hope the state continues to fund this wonderful museum.
Mona V — Google review
Great museum that is fine for kiddos and adults! The seasonal exhibits are changed out frequently, which is awesome. The outdoor walking trail is nice, too! The staff is always very friendly and helpful. Recently attended a birthday party at the museum and it was very well done by the staff and Mr. Corey that handles the animals is an absolute delight! You can tell that he loves his job and is happy to teach everyone about the various animals. We frequent this museum every few months and always enjoy it!
Lindsey T — Google review
Very enjoyable experience. All employees were very nice and all the facilities were clean and tidy. I knrw that there was a few areas that contained live snakes but what I did not realize was that there were areas in which the live snakes were out of the enclosure and on the floor, I did not see any signs of warning about that so someone like me who is terrified of snakes really need a cautionary sign to avoid those areas. However we did enjoy the hands on experience and the egg hunt made it a little extra fun for us.
Delia A — Google review
Super cool! Lots to see inside, and fun nature trails with life sized dinos. decent priced gift shop, lots of exhibits. Kid friendly, and enjoyable for all ages. Coolest outdoor play park I believe I have ever been to. My kids didn't want to leave
Kendy C — Google review
We love the science museum! We appreciate they have a section that changes which gives us a reason to go more often. The kids always love exploring, seeing the animals, and the dinosaurs outside. The staff is very helpful and knowledgeable. They are often walking around with an owl or a different animal giving its story. The kids gather around to listen! We always have a wonderful time!
Macy R — Google review
This is a great place to learn about Nature. Our Grand kids loved watching the baby Aligators being fed and so did I. It was entertaining to watch them grab their fish and take off with it. They have several live snakes and a lot of fish in huge aquariums. They have taxidermy exhibits showing animals in their natural habitats along with many Dinosaur bones. They also have Dinosaur exhibits on the nature trail.
Kimberly W — Google review
Got there about 9am and there was no one. By 10 it was full. I was there on a Tuesday and unfortunately a group of middle schoolers came so it was chaotic. A little disappointing how catered it was to children considering there’s a children’s science museum literally next door but it was fun nonetheless, even the kid games! Very aquarium vibes, dinosaurs and birds. Learned a lot! I was there about 3 hours. Bring bug spray for the nature walk 😭

Nestled in the heart of downtown Jackson, the Mississippi Civil Rights Museum stands as a powerful testament to the state's pivotal role in the civil rights movement. Opened in 2017, this modern museum features eight interactive galleries that chronologically explore significant events from 1945 to 1975, highlighting Mississippi's unique struggles and triumphs during this transformative era.
If you’re looking for a moving and educational experience, I highly recommend visiting the Mississippi Civil Rights Museum in Jackson, Mississippi. This powerful museum delves into the state's complex history of the civil rights movement, showcasing both the struggles and triumphs of those who fought for equality. The exhibits are thoughtfully curated and feature artifacts, photos, and interactive displays that bring the past to life. You’ll learn about the lives of ordinary people who played a crucial role in the movement, as well as the leaders who inspired them. One particularly impactful exhibit is the “Freedom Wall,” which features the names of over 4,000 individuals who were killed or injured during the civil rights struggle in Mississippi. It’s a stark reminder of the sacrifices made to achieve justice. The museum also offers a variety of educational programs and events, including lectures, film screenings, and workshops. These programs provide even more opportunities to deepen your understanding of the civil rights movement and its lasting impact. Overall, the Mississippi Civil Rights Museum is a powerful and thought-provoking experience that should not be missed. It’s a place where you can learn about history, honor those who fought for equality, and reflect on the progress that has been made. Here are some additional highlights: * The museum is located in the heart of downtown Jackson just passed the Old State Capital Museum and the Mississippi Department of Archives and History Museum near an in development park that will allow families to enjoy the mostly pleasant Mississippi weather. * The exhibits are well-maintained and informative. * The staff is knowledgeable and passionate about the museum’s mission. * The museum is a great place for history buffs, families, traveling  tourist and individuals of all ages. If you’re ever in Mississippi, I highly recommend taking the time to visit the Mississippi Civil Rights Museum. You won’t be disappointed.
Von A — Google review
One of the best museum experiences I’ve ever had. It used a unique and attentive way to reveal this dark history, which made you feel like you were really experiencing the same thing with the oppressed people in the past and reminded you to remember it as well as prevent it from happening again. The staff were awesome. They were extremely friendly, knowledgeable, and willing to answer any questions. As a person who knows little about this history, I learned a lot from this museum and recognized the importance of pointing this history out despite how heavy and hurtful it was!
Rebecca Y — Google review
This was my second visit to this remarkable museum, and I must say, it has among my all-time favorites. The way the history is artfully depicted and showcased is nothing short of phenomenal, even as it confronts the tragic and often horrific realities it represents. Every exhibit draws you in, inviting deep reflection on the struggles and triumphs of the civil rights movement. I wholeheartedly recommend this powerful civil rights museum to everyone seeking to understand the importance of this pivotal moment in history.
Delilah S — Google review
Let’s start with 10/10. Made our way to this civil rights museum from Nola with everything going on in the world and it did not disappoint. I honestly think MS was worser during slavery than Louisiana. I loved the separate rooms to sit down and listen to the audio files of slavery. We hated to hear it but it was necessary. I’m most definitely returning and bringing the children. Whomever put this museum together did an amazing job and more advertisement should be done to get people to come and see it. It wasn’t enough of my people as customers in there for me! If we’re not careful, history will repeat itself! Don’t walk, run. Free parking on the street.
Ciara C — Google review
Surprisingly immersive. You could spend a whole day here if you were to read all the information being presented. Plan on dedicating a few hours. Sunday entry was free which included two museums and a temporary exhibit upstairs on Hurricane Katrina’s affect on Mississippi.
Patrick A — Google review
I go to most of the event that the museum put in and I’ve never been disappointed. This museum highlights all of MS history and it doesn’t hide who MS is. I must say tho as a person who has heard some of the stories from someone who was a child during these times, seeing it in a museum makes it surreal. Parts of the story is triggering but well worth the learning experience. It’s part of who we are as Mississippians and I’ll be proud to tell someone to put this on there places to visit if they are traveling through the area.
Emary S — Google review
I visited the Mississippi Civil Rights Museum with my wife Mariluz, and it was an unforgettable experience. The exhibits on the civil rights movement are impactful and thoughtfully presented. On the second floor, the Hurricane Katrina display adds a powerful perspective on inequality and resilience. A place that educates, moves, and inspires.
Jose H — Google review
This place was so beautiful yet so sad at the same time. They had so many stories, and details and real life scenarios where you could place yourself in the situation you truly cannot see everything in one day because it was so much to see we were there for at least 3 hours and the second part where is shows the growth of MS was so cool! Definitely worth the trip 🙌🏾

Ideal close to freeway and yet so peaceful. Flat concrete spots, no prob in 40ft 5th wheel. Checked in at gate although it was pretty busy (April) Birds and beautiful lake and swampy areas.

Nice shaded SP. Over half of the sites back up to the lake with excellent views. It has one washer and dryer at $2 each. Spot 15-17 are big rig friendly ( 45'). However, 17 has a low spot that accumulates water and stays wet.

So far so good! Terrible holes on the roads in and out and the traffic from the interstate is LOUD. Our site doesn’t have a bbq pit. Friendly staff, quiet during the day oh and misquotes are HUGE and hungry. Lots of places to fish and 2 boat launches. Piers are nice and the deer are out daily.

Nice quite small campground. Located adjacent to the children's science museum and just across the highway from the ag museum. Older state park. But grounds are well cared for. No sewer.

Qo perfume place for large gatherings. Remember, it is the great outdoors. Wear insect repellent and be prepared to fish and walk. Enjoy.

The Mississippi Children's Museum offers an engaging and educational experience for kids with its interactive exhibits, activities, and programs focusing on arts, history, health, and science. Divided into six areas, the museum encourages curiosity and inspiration in children. The 'World at Work' gallery explores STEM concepts related to industry and careers while the 'Exploring Mississippi' exhibit features a giant map of the state for kids to learn about geography, history, and culture.
This was my first time touring this museum and I was VERY IMPRESSED. I was a mentor with American Heart Association; STEM Goes Red October 28, 2024: 100 Jackson Public Middle School girls for a fun, interactive and educational day. Companies like Nissan were there to share what they do as games. They have a large scrabble board in museum which exciting for me because I have loved the game since I was a child. Any child or adult 😃 would absolutely love it and I enjoyed it myself. The museum is very very educational and decor of each exhibit was excellent. I LOVE that they have an outdoor space (Enchanted Land of Story) for learning and sitting. I will definitely take my great nephews the next time they are in town. As you can see it is a wonderful place for an event! I highly recommend taking your child or any other child to visit this museum. A bonus is a very nice playground next to it!!! ❤️
Dr. R — Google review
The Museum is always a great place to go! Our tickets were less than $40, and the food was great! They have lockers that only take quarters, and each time you open your locker, it takes another quarter to lock it back. I love to see my children observe and learn as they play!

Grandson had an amazing time. $13 entry fee for everyone 1 and older. Spent over 2 hours here, and still was finding new things to do.

Excellent place to take your children or grandchildren. Lots of things for kids of all ages to do, learn, and explore. The outdoor activity park is the best I've ever seen and includes areas of shade for the adults to watch but relax. We live 2 hours away and the kids immediately asked when they can go again, despite the ride and being exhausted after all day of playing.

My 4 year old enjoyed every single activity.

There was a new slide added from the last time when we went in the inside and big enough for adults to slide down as well ... very enjoyable and fun and I love that it wasn't as busy on a sun. Just wish they opened before 1 on sun.

Some of the displays were very dated. Not many people remember the PBS show "Between the Lion". The gift shop was nice. If I had not gotten a 50% discount for being a member of Children's museum in St. Louis, I would have found it to be a ripoff. The free playground next to it, was great! I give the playground 5 out of 5.
Akintola-David A — Google review
Absolutely love this place or membership is set to expire soon and we will definitely be renewing for a third time. In my opinion - it’s best for 18 months and up. My kids really took advantage of it at age 2 and up.

Sights & Landmarks
When in Jackson, Mississippi, a visit to the Mississippi State Capitol is a must for those interested in the state's rich history. This Beaux-Arts-style building, completed in 1903 by architect Theodore Link, stands as an iconic landmark with its striking 180-foot-tall dome and elegant exterior adorned with Indiana limestone and Georgia granite. Serving as the seat of government since its completion, this Greek Revival-style structure exudes grandeur and historical significance.
Great capitol building. The people working there are very friendly and helpful. The building is beautiful inside and outside. The only difficulty I had was finding parking. There is street parking around the building, but it was reserved for legislators. There was no sign or anything of where they wanted visitors to park, so I had to go online and they say you can park in the lot on the north east corner.
Dennis L — Google review
Enjoyed seeing the capital building at night time. Unfortunately it was a weekend when we traveled through Jackson and it was night, they don't give tours on weekends. Don't usually get to see the buildings at night. Walked around and checked it out. Hopefully make it back one day to check out the inside.

Beautiful and Stunning. My first time ever seeing the Mississippi State Capitol! It did not disappoint. It’s very peaceful and serene. It seemed to have a great police presence, which was comforting, from the standpoint of being in downtown Jackson. Will have to comeback sometime when more time can be spent, and more can be learned.

We had the opportunity/honor to visit the Mississippi State Capitol in FEB_FY2024 and it was an amazing experience, a great opportunity to learn more about Mississippi's history and legacy under the roof. We did a plant tour with Mr. Steve and for sure it's a remarkable building. Definitely, it's a place that deserves my respect. It was a privilege.
Robertson S — Google review
Southern hospitality is a real thing because I discovered as much in the Mississippi State Capitol in Jackson. As soon as my small group walked through the front door, we were greeted by the Capitol’s tour director. She asked us to sign the guest book and affected to take us on tour but we didn’t have a lot of time so we opted for a self-tour and so she made a few key recommendations on our visit. The photos show where we wondered around. On higher floors, we were greeted by the person whose job it is to lead tours into the State Senate and House. Our questions were answered by our upstairs tour guide. Although no state Capitol can rival the historic nature of the U.S. Capitol, the Mississippi Capitol building is a fine example of the classic look of architecture from Rome and Greece. Many thanks to the people at the Mississippi State Capitol for giving us the time to visit.
Stew C — Google review
As a resident of MS and tour guide at State Capitol, I am very proud of how it represents us. It was designed by Theodore Link in 1901. The photos were taken during the Book Festival so definitely a much larger crowd than normal. What I like most is the fact that it has 10 different types of marble; foreign and domestic. There are also 4,750 original light fixtures. It’s built on Beaux-Art Style which was popular from 1890-1920. Visitors who are touring all state capitols have stated that MS has one of the nicest. There is so much history under one roof and it’s simply beautiful. I highly recommend visiting if in the area or passing through!
Dr. R — Google review
Being from Louisville, it's crazy that I just visited this place last week! However, I must say that I'm thoroughly impressed with my home state's capitol! It's undoubtedly beautiful and represents our state well. The tour guide was very informative and gave us some fun facts along our journey. I highly recommend the Mississippi Capitol for field trips. Nestled in Jackson, the Mississippi Agriculture and Forestry Museum spans an impressive 39 acres, immersing visitors in the rich agricultural and forestry history of Mississippi. This engaging destination features a living-history farm and a charming recreation of a 1920s cotton economy town, complete with authentic businesses like a general store, schoolhouse, church, blacksmith shop, sugarcane mill, and cotton gin.
I came on a Saturday and there was next to no one here, which is surprising because this is an amazing spot! I learned so much about the history of growing crops and lumber in Mississippi and in general. There is so much that I don't know about when it comes to the production of food. The outside is setup like a farm on one side and a small 1800s town. All of it was amazing. I certainly plan on coming back for an event or to just visit.

Brought my eleven year old. He knows about much of this stuff, but it was a great reminder for both of us. Seeing the Gin was cool and the old houses. He was shocked by the school house. Quite little house on the prairie like. I wish it had an audio tour for the outside area and some artifacts inside didn’t have details for its use so you had to google or just wonder, lol. Overall, good for older children in my opinion.

Our Women's Ministry group rented a bldg for our seminar and luncheon. The place was very nice and clean. We had adequate space for vendors and attendee tables. Everything went smoothly. My only issue was the parking. It seems a walk - a -thon was going on, and even though we paid for a facility use, we had to fend for parking. Carrying set up items from across the bridge , back and forth, was a bit far for some of us senior women. I wish they would have allotted spaces close to bldg we rented for our use only. Other than that ....it was okay. We enjoyed our time, cleaned up after we finished, and packed up and made our trek back across the bridge.

It was very nice to go back in time to the 1800s-1900s. There was a lot of interesting stuff to look at. We sure did learn a lot and it was so much fun. The staff there was very friendly. There is a general store where you can purchase items and such if you need snacks and drinks you can find it there. This place is really nice to visit.

If you want a genuine picture of how life was before and at the turn of the century, THIS place will supply it. It's setup as a small town, with various businesses that would have been there around 1880+... It also does a nice job showing how the gin mill AND subsequent harvesting machine changed the landscape forever. It shows how better roads led to increasing business, and how trains and autos doomed horsedrawn vehicles. Very nice to see an accurate portrayal of how things used to be. Well laid out. 👍👍👍

Such a super cute place to bring your family and learn some history of the state. We had a great time adventuring around and exploring. I recommend going in the morning to give yourself plenty of time to read everything because it is very educational.

Our school traveled here as part of their yearly field trip..This was my first venture here with my daughter and her classmates.. I was very impressed on this facilities reach on history and past economics and even just how the past once was..some things seemed so simple yet some things seemed kind of barbaric..however the MS Agricultural Museum had very informative information on many many topics...Kudos guys..keep up the good work

Sights & Landmarks
The Old Capitol Museum, located in Jackson, Mississippi, is a historic landmark that served as the state's capitol from 1839 to 1903. This Greek Revival-style building has been meticulously restored and now operates as a museum showcasing Mississippi's early history and pivotal legislative decisions. The museum offers free entry and features exhibits highlighting the state's journey from an independent territory to its role in significant events such as secession from the Union and civil rights era reforms.
I stopped in here since I was in the area, and I am so glad I did. Free admission, parking is free. This was quite amazing. The signs along the way were very informative and helpful. Though I would love to know if it was haunted. Probably not, old buildings are never haunted. I loved learning the history of the building of the government. I would recommend to anyone in the area.
Andrea F — Google review
Although I didn’t have the chance to explore the interior of the Old Capitol Museum, just walking around the exterior was a memorable experience in itself. The architecture is absolutely stunning — classic Greek Revival style with grand columns, a copper dome, and stately proportions that reflect the proud Dixieland character of the Old South. You can truly feel the weight of history standing in front of this building. As Mississippi’s former state capitol from 1839 to 1903, it has witnessed some of the state’s most defining moments. The Southern themes, pride, and historical context are woven into its very foundation. Even from the outside, the Old Capitol Museum offers a glimpse into Mississippi's rich and sometimes complex past. It's beautifully preserved, and the grounds are peaceful and inviting — perfect for taking in the grandeur of this iconic structure.

Excellent restored old Capitol. It was recently restored to what was original - after Hurricane Katrina flooded it. It's a self guided tour. You mostly see the architecture with a little information about the history and how the building was used.
Scott L — Google review
It was the perfect anniversary date and we really enjoyed the beautiful ambiance while listening to the orchestra play. The workers were really nice and didn’t mind taking pictures of attendees when we entered the building.
Jessica S — Google review
What a fantastic historic place. Laws and important decisions and debates took place here.
Sun F — Google review
If you’re wanting something educational and low-key, this museum is excellent. My wife and I took the older kids, and they really responded to the interactive exhibits about how the government works, the history tied to the building, etc. The architecture is beautiful, and it gives a good mix of history without being overwhelming. It’s not huge, so you won’t spend all day, but that’s good with impatient kids. Free admission is nice. Only gave 4 stars because some parts are a little sparse and hours are limited, so you’ll want to plan ahead.

The Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame & Museum is a museum that showcases the achievements and history of Mississippi's athletes and teams through interactive exhibits. Visitors are welcomed by friendly staff members who direct them to watch a brief video about Mississippi sports before exploring the extensive collection of memorabilia on display. The museum is impressively clean, well-organized, and provides a comprehensive overview of various athletes' accomplishments throughout the state's sporting history.
On a whim, I made the trip up to Jackson to visit the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame. Mike Andrews greeted me at the front desk. Let me tell you, this gentleman is a wealth of information about this Hall of Fame. He is very passionate about all of the greats that have had their beginnings in this state. You pay $5, and then the tour starts with a video. In order to be inducted into this hall of fame, you must have been born in this state and gotten your start here. Mike then guided me through the highlights of the museum, it is very well organized. I am not a huge fan of sports, but I love to meet people who are excited about things, and this was a delight.

This was my first stop when I got to Jackson, I'm a huge sports fans and like to enjoy sports museums for states who have them, so this one was a no brainer. When you first open the door you are greeted by an older women and gentlemen, both very nice folks. They have you watch about a 10 minute video on Mississippi sports, very nice short film. At first glance, I was amazed how clean and nice the museum was. As I proceeded to all of the memorabilia, I was impressed on the set up and how much stuff they had on display for all of the different athletes. I highly recommend making this one of your stops when visiting Jackson. You won't be disappointed if you're a sports fan.

Great place to visit even if you are not a sports fan. It's very nicely organized with a video to orient you to its purpose and interactive exhibits. We didn't get to see all of it due to carpet maintenance, but we'll be sure to go back and finish. The staff were very personable and accommodating. It covers all sports and players, past and present who have hailed from the state or played for the state. Some present names haven't been inducted due to lack of tenure, but the staff will explain the parameters.

The facility was very nice and originally would've recieved 5 stars from me. However when I asked about why there wasn't any steve McNair memorabilia. The lady said they a lot it's just not on display because he was murdered, which is why it should be out on display.🙄 also there was very little in Marcus Dupree & only 1 tiny article on steve McNair both of which were basically tucked away hidden in a closed off section. I feel like peoples personal biases and opinions should not overshadow what these missiapians talents and legacies. I was considering purchasing a lifetime membership but after that talk I was turned off & probably won't return. Which is unfortunate because the facility it very nice

The Manship Wood Fired Kitchen is a stylish restaurant located in the Belhaven neighborhood of Jackson. It offers a unique dining experience with its Mediterranean-inspired cuisine infused with Southern flavors. The chic eatery features rustic decor and provides both indoor and outdoor seating options.
So out of my travels across the country, this has easily been one of my top 5 experiences. First and foremost, our server, Joe, made this a wonderful experience for all of us. If everyone worked like this man, the world would be a better, and much more entertaining place. 1. The food- the smoked wings and the charcuterie board were fantastic. Perfectly cooked and displayed with expert skill. Then for our entrées, the fried oysters, Philly cheese steak pizza, vegetable pizza, and the salmon salad; they were fantastic. They were clearly made by a chef who knows their ingredients and is an expert in their craft. Then finally, the dessert, a slice of pecan pie, which was crisp, fluffy, and perfectly cooked. 2. Service; so again, back to Joe. He was attentive, entertaining, polite, and knowledgeable about the menu and drinks. If they get a few more of him on staff, they'll be in business forever. As a veteran of the service industry myself, my hat's off to you. 3. The atmosphere is impressive. While is simple, it clearly surpasses the rest of the local eateries and diners in Jackson. The music is appropriate and at just the perfect volume for you to have a conversation or just sit and enjoy your meal in peace. Overall, this is one of my rare perfect reviews. If you're in Jackson and you don't stop here, you're missing out.

The only place we could find that was open around the Fourth of July. So we were grateful, that more than coffee shops were open. The service and the ambiance were on point, however for the place to be so fancy the food in my opinion was diner quality food. While the prices weren’t like outrage, I had more flavor in that jam and toast than I did anything else. The eggs lacked flavor but were cooked perfectly, the grits had no flavor at all which was super disappointing. The wait staff raved about the grits. The chicken and waffles weren’t bad but I wouldn’t order it again, the flavor profile was basic. I wouldn’t definitely go back just for a drink and a good conversation with a plus one. But there aren’t too many things I would wya again from the menu.

Good was really excellent. I had the blackened red fish, and it was wonderful. The blackening was fine to perfection, and the fish itself was fresh and flavorful. Also had the fried green tomatoes with crab. Really a treat. My colleague had the stump and grits and reported that it was great. Definitely recommend this spot in Jackson, MS.

This place was my cup of tea!! It was calm and relaxing, had amazing vibes, the best food I have had in a very very long time, and the staff was incredible. The only down side was there was no changing table in the restroom, but the total experience made up for that! Just bring a changing pad hahah. I will DEFINITELY be coming back every time we come through here! I can’t say enough about how much I genuinely loved the food. Everything was absolutely amazing that we tried. The chicken was amazing but the steak was were it was at! The truffle fry’s were so good I could lick the bowl (but I didn’t) and the dessert was amazing too.

It is always a pleasure to visit this location. Flesh salads, delicious gumbo, and the fried green tomatoes are what life is all about. The service was good but could have been better. If you are in the area you would be cheating yourself if you did not partake.

Lots of seating available, inside and out. I'd recommend getting an appetizer if you're really hungry. The red fish special was delicious and I loved the pecan pie, which came in a hot cast iron skillet with ice-cream on top. Service was quick and I left 45 minutes after I entered.

Hello Manship Team, I’m a regular guest and have always enjoyed my visits, but I was very disappointed with my recent experience. My usual steak and eggs, ordered medium rare, was served almost completely raw. This was both unappetizing and concerning for my health, especially since I had already eaten a few bites. I chose not to have it redone or order anything else. I do want to thank Max and Destiny for handling the situation professionally and with understanding. However, I feel this experience warrants follow-up to ensure it doesn’t happen again and to address my concerns as a loyal customer. I hope we can find a way to make this right, as I’d like to continue dining here in the future. Thank you, Sahbryn

One of the best dining experiences I've ever had! Flew in town for work and I always try to find a nice local, non-chain spot, saw the reviews so decided to try it and we were so impressed we came back a few days later with a larger group. Our server was so attentive and helpful we requested him personally for our return trip. Spoke with management on both visits (TJ and Zack were their names I think) and they were gracious and appreciative. From the classy atmosphere to the expertly made cocktails to the exquisite food and with dessert being the chef's kiss, this meal was not cheap and it was worth every penny! The fried green tomatoes are the TRUTH! If I am ever anywhere near Jackson again, I will be back! Note: Courtney is the absolute BEST server I've encountered... insist on being seated in his section!

Okay, let's be real, I'm a sucker for Southern food. And Char? Char was my Southern food soulmate last week. I've been a few times now, and each visit just reaffirms my love. This isn't just "good" Southern food, it's inspired Southern food, the kind that makes you close your eyes and savor every bite. This time around, I started with their broccoli. I know, I know, broccoli and chicken breast? But trust me on this. They're not your grandma's mushy, boiled-to-death broccoli. These are tender, bright green, and seasoned with just the right touch of…something. I can't put my finger on it, but it's magical. Seriously, I could make a meal of just broccoli. But, of course, I didn't. Because mac and cheese was calling my name. And Char's mac and cheese? It's the stuff of dreams. Creamy, cheesy, but not so heavy that you feel like you've eaten a brick of cheese. It's the perfect balance. And then, the black-eyed peas. Earthy, flavorful, and cooked perfectly. They’re a little bit smoky, a little bit savory, and a whole lot delicious. It's like a warm hug in a bowl. For my main course, I decided to go classic. I'm a sucker for a good burger, and Char's did not disappoint. Perfectly cooked (just like I like it), juicy, and piled high with fresh toppings. The patty was thick and flavorful, clearly high-quality beef. And the fries? Crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside, and seasoned just right. It's a simple dish, but Char elevates it to something special. Even though I was stuffed, I couldn't leave without trying dessert. I have a serious weakness for cakes and pecan pie, and Char's version is absolutely divine. Rich, nutty, and perfectly sweet. It was the perfect ending to a perfect meal. They also had a tempting chocolate cake that I was eyeing, so I have a feeling another visit is in my near future. Char isn't the cheapest, let's be honest. But for me, it's worth every penny as a treat. The food is consistently excellent, the service is friendly and attentive, and the atmosphere is warm and inviting. It's the kind of place you go for a special occasion, or when you just want to treat yourself to a truly delicious meal. If you're in Jackson and you love Southern food, Char is a must-try. Just make sure you save room for dessert!

Tonight I had a unique experience, we ordered crabcakes, the sin city shrimp, and the oysters as apps. Shortly after recieving them, a heated altercation between two groups started right beside my table with my disabled grandmother being closest to the confrontation. It was a very tense situation, two grown men and a group of people threatening a fight. The hostess, a woman with long brown hair and a seafoam green shirt, stepped in between them, despite her size, despite the violence, she broke down the situation and asked if WE were okay. I don't know her name, all I could offer her were my kind words and some of my purse chocolates but if i had cash on me i would've definitely given her a considerable amount. She was incredible, so was our server, Eric. The staff handled the situation very professionally. The food was incredible, and the service was perfect. As a waitress, I have never witnessed a team with such a strong and professional staff. This restaurant, the servers, and kitchen staff are the epitome of bravery, professionalism, and skill. Thank you Char staff for everything you do for your customers experience.

This is my secret treat each time I come to Jackson, and the place I take each of my nieces and nephews to celebrate their major achievements. Even though the most recent experience was not as smooth as it had been in the past, there were three people who assured that, before we left, my niece and I were able to have the excellent experience that is expected at Char. QUAY’s natural attentiveness and devotion to excellence are truly treasured. KAITLYN’s bubbly personality and welcoming spirit are definite delights. And JIMMY’s supportive management style and passionate customer engagement are noticeably elevated and place CHAR in a category solely occupied by this team — superb, consistently‼️

Not quite worth what it costs. Service was outstanding, but they don't carry premium beer and they ran out of Ribeye steak before we arrived at 8pm on a Sunday night. As a result, I had a rather tough New York Strip that wasn't seasoned in the least. Not a good meal.

Walker's Drive In is a delightful bistro that has been a beloved fixture in Jackson for over 70 years, nestled in the vibrant Fondren area. This stylish eatery boasts an inviting atmosphere with its charming black and white tiled floors and cozy booths adorned with art. While the name may suggest casual dining, Walker's offers an upscale experience featuring gourmet New American cuisine crafted from locally sourced ingredients.
This place was amazing. When I got there, it was still light out and it looked like a total dive from the outside. Once you walk through the door, it was magical. I sat at the food bar and watched the staff work. I had a flash fried softshell crab (to die for) with a garlic cream sauce; followed by two foie gras on a Butter soak crostini with a berry salty sauce (heavenly). Finished with a blueberry upside down corn cake with homemade vanilla bean ice cream. The bartender made me a delicious mock tail. Everyone was super friendly. I would return to Jackson, Mississippi just to eat at Walkers again.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Walker’s Drive-In never disappoints! We hadn’t been in a while, but everything was better than ever. The service was excellent, and the food is hands-down some of the best in Jackson. We came on a Thursday and appreciated that they were open until 9—perfect timing for us. The place was clean, comfy, and had a great vibe. It was busy, so we had to park a couple of blocks away, but it was well worth it. We had the Wagyu, lobster skewers, and a glass of Josh Chardonnay—everything was incredible. The truffle fries and side potatoes were seasoned to perfection. Our waiter was fantastic—super attentive and rocking a great mustache! We even gave him a compliment on it. 😄 We love that Walker’s still holds onto its original charm. My husband and I will absolutely keep coming back… and we can’t wait to try more of the menu!

I had lunch around 11 on a Thursday at Walker’s Drive In. We walked in and were stated immediately. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The atmosphere is top notch. The food is top quality and priced great. The service was very quick but still allowed us to enjoy the food! Business did seem to pick up closer to 12, but service stayed on top. I will definitely be back for lunch! I can’t wait to try dinner!

Walker's Drive In is an absolute gem in the world of dining, and I can't sing its praises enough. From the moment I stepped inside, I knew I was in for a treat. First and foremost, the service at Walker's Drive In is top-notch. The staff is friendly, attentive, and incredibly knowledgeable about the menu. They made fantastic recommendations and went out of their way to ensure that our dining experience was nothing short of exceptional. Now, let's talk about the food. Wow! Every bite was a revelation of flavor and creativity. The menu boasts a fantastic array of dishes, each prepared with the utmost care and attention to detail. I started with the Blue Crab Melt, and I was blown away by the delicate balance of flavors. The crab was sweet and succulent, and the perfectly toasted bread provided a satisfying crunch. For my main course, I couldn't resist the Wood-Grilled Filet. It was cooked to perfection, tender and juicy with a smoky char that added depth to every bite. The accompanying truffle mashed potatoes and asparagus were the ideal companions, elevating the dish to a level of culinary excellence that I'll remember for a long time. The dessert menu at Walker's Drive In is equally impressive. I indulged in the Chocolate Peanut Butter Pie, and it was a symphony of decadence. Creamy, rich, and packed with flavor, it was the perfect conclusion to an extraordinary meal. The restaurant's atmosphere is also worth mentioning. It strikes a perfect balance between upscale and comfortable, making it an ideal spot for a special occasion or a casual night out. The dim lighting and cozy decor create an inviting ambiance that enhances the overall dining experience. And let's not forget the bar! Walker's Drive In offers a fantastic selection of cocktails and an extensive wine list. I highly recommend exploring their cocktail menu, as the mixologists truly know their craft. In summary, Walker's Drive In is a culinary masterpiece that deserves every bit of its five-star reputation. Whether you're a food enthusiast looking for a memorable dining experience or simply in search of a great meal, this restaurant should be at the top of your list. I can't wait to return and savor more of their delectable creations. Kudos to the entire team at Walker's Drive In for consistently delivering excellence on every plate!

Excellent food and service. The red fish with lump crab was amazing! Wonderful flavors cooked right. The red snapper with mushrooms and capers was also a real treat. Alex was a pleasure to deal with and provided excellent, friendly service while answering questions and making suggestions. Then to top it all off we delighted in the Mississippi peach fried pie, dusted with cinnamon and sugar served with a vanilla bean ice cream and white chocolate sauce. It was absolute heaven. Crisp and clean flavor. Not overly sweet or oily tasting. Sheer perfection. You cannot go wrong dining at Walker’s Drive-In.

BRAVO! certainly lived up to its excellent reputation during our recent visit. From the moment we walked in, my friend and I received a warm greeting and were seated promptly. Our server, Bailey, was wonderful—attentive, friendly, and happy to answer our questions. We started with the calamari, which was perfectly cooked and delicious. When my friend was hesitant about ordering the ravioli, Bailey proactively mentioned it was prepared with duck fat and graciously offered to replace the dish if it wasn't to her liking. This thoughtful service was much appreciated. Needless to say, the ravioli was a hit, and my Chicken Parmesan was equally fantastic. The portions were generous, leaving us with plenty of leftovers to enjoy later. Overall, the combination of a welcoming atmosphere, outstanding food, and exceptional staff makes BRAVO! a place I would highly recommend.

Bravo is one of the best restaurants in the state! Consistent, quality food. Great service and they care about your experience every time!. For brunch, Great redfish and crabcakes! The redfish is grilled and served with a poached egg and creole hollandaise. Also, the omelettes are always fluffy, delicious and rightly seasoned. It is the best spinach and goat cheese salad around. With a warm balsamic vinaigrette. Good breads, amazing wood-fired pizzas. Great variety The herb crusted salmon with angel hair pasta is amazing. The filet is fantastic with potato pauve (check spelling). Really this tenderloin filet is as fine as any of the fine steakhouses in the area! Sides are good and fresh fruit is always an option. Great desserts. The tiramisu is out of sight. Great drinks. Lots of unique mixed cocktails, good wines, and a great happy hour. There is literally nothing to complain about this restaurant. Nothing.

Good food, well seasoned and not too salty. The duck ravioli was a very hefty portion with loads of duck meat. Although I know it's gamey, it was too gamey. Huge cheese and mushroom stuffed ravioli and deliciously decadent, rich, and heavy cream sauce. This dish is big and filling enough for two people or to take home leftovers, so don't be greedy and ear the whole dish in one sitting YIKES! My sister is vegan and had plenty to choose from. Actually, her meal looked so good. I should have gone that route! She had a salad and the vegan risotto. We enjoyed the mocktails and had her fave, the watermelon, something or other. Make sure the bartender adds enough of the watermelon puree, or it will be too tart. So we asked for some of the puree, and they happily obliged! Super nice and helpful wait staff, as it seems like they enjoy their jobs. Next time I'm in Jackson, MS, I will definitely go again as the menu was so varied with many choices.

Service was unbelievably slow. It took us 15 minutes to get a glass of wine. 10 more minutes to get water. 40 more minutes to get an appetizer. We ordered dinner when we ordered our appetizer. After an hourit still had not arrived. After checking several times on the status, we finally asked them to chexk again and to bring us our check if was still not ready. We were then given our check for our wine and appetizer. I actually thought they may wave it as an apology....but no such offer. We cannot sit and wait two hours for our dinner to arrive. We like to support local but not with this level of poor service.

Talking about a mouthgasm. Every bite had my eyes rolling and mouth watery🤤. Everyone that has ever been here before knows why it's a must visit if it's a person first time to Mississippi. LOVE IT HERE.

All of the staff were welcoming and helpful. Everything we had to eat here was delicious. We had ham hocks, beef tips, spicy collards, fried okra, potato salad, cornbread, yams, banana pudding, and peach cobbler. ALL were so good. We will definitely be back next time we are in town!

This meal rates in the top ten I’ve ever eaten and I’ve eaten some wonderful food. I’d damn near make the drive from Hot Springs just to eat more of those greens that as my friend Andrea said, “were touched by God.” The turkey necks fell off the bone in the most delicious gravy. This stop was the highlight of our trip.

Delicious soul food! They got ham hocks, ox tails, pig feet, and necks! All the food was amazing, the ham hocks was fall off the bone. I thought a ham hocks would be rubbery. Parking lot is a bit small but I see locals eat here including government people. Must be good. One lady does it all!

I recently tried the peach cobbler from this restaurant, and unfortunately, it was a very disappointing experience. This was my first time ordering from here, and based on the taste and appearance of the food, it will also be my last. The cobbler lacked flavor and looked unappetizing. My coworkers also ordered different items and shared similar dissatisfaction. Overall, I cannot recommend this place based on our experience.

Bully’s was once a staple in Jackson and even the state. I was a youngin when I first visited over 40 years ago when it was truly operated by the Bully Family. They offered short cook orders and hot meals that you couldn’t find locally. Presently the family is still courteous and polite however the quality has gone done. The Family lives affluently but the restaurant looks as if should be off downtown South Dr. and you see what happened to Sweetie Pies gone!! I ordered corn and it was dark brown and my entree was hours old. The restaurant could really use some professional cleaning and arranging. I looked up October 2025 MSDOH Inspection and they failed for cleanliness. Not surprising. You would’ve thought that they would have expanded after years operating or even a Vendor truck Operation popular in Jackson now or even a spot at the MS Fair. I understand the unfortunate deadly case years back but the Family is well respected and should give back to the community it serves. Sometimes all it takes is a small difference or a new addition of some sort. I hope for a better day to come. This place has huge potential just like the world class “Sweet Georgia Brown”in Dallas TX. But no comparison now, not even close for a Black owned family business. Good Luck family 🤞🤞

Absolutely was in love with the food. The beef tips and rice was soooo good!!!.

The food was ok, a little salty but descent I was upset with their prices. A 20 oz cup of tea was $5.50 an extra side was $4, They call dressing, sweet potatoes premium sides and they upcharge you .50 and they charge .99 if you dining in. So we sat by the bathroom the only clean table. Go figure. So a 12.99 plate of turkey wing and 3 sides 2 included if they REGULAR SIDES ended up costing me $27.99 my lunch partner had the same thing with an Arnold Palmer and his was $30. I guess they charge for the Arnold and Palmer 🤣🤣. Im sorry I won't be Bullied again. Pun intended.

Restaurant
The Iron Horse Grill offers a unique dining experience with its airy and welcoming industrial setting. This historic restaurant, originally an Armour Smokehouse dating back to 1906, is considered an icon of Mississippi heritage. Despite burning down twice, it has been rebuilt and continues to serve mouthwatering Southern cuisine. Visitors praise the professional service and delicious, fresh food, including the must-try Iron House Burger. The friendly staff and great atmosphere make for a memorable dining experience in Jackson, Mississippi.
I recently attended a surprise birthday party for my uncle at The Iron Horse Grille, and it was an excellent experience all around. The food was delicious – everyone enjoyed their meals, and the flavors really stood out. The atmosphere was perfect, with a warm, welcoming vibe and nice music playing in the background that wasn’t too loud. We had a private room upstairs for the event, which gave us just the right amount of space and privacy. Our waitress did a fantastic job – she was attentive, friendly, and made sure we had everything we needed. It was a great place to celebrate, and I’d highly recommend it for both special occasions and a great night out.

My hotel highly recommend I try The Iron Horse Grill for Lunch. I am grateful that they did. The food was fantastic. I had the steak and shrimp fajitas and I give them a tan out of 10 the steak was tender, juicy, and cooked to perfection. The shrimp were fabulous and the veggies, beans, rice and side items were all just fabulous and the chips and dip was as good or better than any Mexican restaurant. Equally as great was the atmosphere and service. My waitress, Victoria, took great care of me and checked to make sure that the food was to my liking as well as providing just the right amount of attention. I look forward to stopping in again the next time I’m in Jackson. Maybe then, I’ll save room for dessert.

Great place. The ribs were meaty and done right. The love music had the right amount of variety. Carla (I hope I got her name right) was very helpful with our orders and attentive to our questions. She also recommended us to visit the wax museum upstairs. Great meal and great history. Thanks.

The atmosphere and service was great. The food could definitely use some more work and the fried broccoli was good. I’ve tried other things and they weren’t even pitch worthy. But I would still come here for a drink, I would just eat before I come.

I was visiting with a cousin and she recommended this place as a go to for brunch. As soon as we got there, we were seated right away. Although our waiter, Darius, was new to the restaurant, he did his best with service and accommodating our needs. While we were there, there was live music and the musician, Todd, walked around and played side table! It was great! I love live music! Ok, now on to the food. There is a brunch special that they have for about $24 at the time of this review and you can have anything you want, however, you are only allowed to go up alone time. You get waffles, omlettes, and grits with all the sides and trimmings. I had fried fish, fried okra, and Mac and cheese. I have to work off the pounds it put on me, but it was good. I had the seafood dip and that was good as well. A bit of warning, if you have a shellfish allergy or any allergy, which a person in my party was, be sure to state your food allergies prior to placing your order. Also, the shrimp and fish are cooked in the same pot/grill so if you have a shellfish allergy, choose something else. The manager did come out and apologized and we were able to order something else. All in all, it was a great visit and I would go back again. Be careful driving there though, the streets in that area are horrible! I thought streets in New Orleans were bad, but Jackson, Mississippi wins that award!

Had some food and drinks here after recommendation from my hotel. I had fried catfish and a berry cocktail. Overall everything was good, but I wasn't really wowed by anything. The menu was very Mississippi themes but I didn't feel like anything was particularly unique which was a disappointment to me. That said, the food is still solid. Its good sports bar type food, and it seems like they also host events regularly which must be nice if you are part of the community. But as someone traveling though its not going to blow your mind

Saltine Restaurant offers a modern take on Southern comfort food in a contemporary dining space. Whether you're looking for innovative seafood mains or craft cocktails, this establishment has something for everyone. The restaurant is known for its popular brunch options, such as the Banana Fosters Pancakes. With a business casual dress code, Saltine provides an upscale yet comfortable dining experience.
Every time I come to this restaurant, I never have a bad experience. Everything is always amazing!! The oysters are always fabulous and the sides are always masterfully done, too! Great pink lemonade and sweet tea (it's just right for me). This time I got the Oysters Lafitte and asparagus. The Oysters Lafitte is wonderful! They were unique, perfectly cooked, juicy, flavorful, and the vinaigrette complimented the Oysters very much, and the asparagus was great too! And afterwards I had one of my favorite desserts off the menu which is their Cinnamon Roll Cheesecake, and let me tell you it is OUTRAGEOUSLY GOOD!!! It is so rich, decadent, and the textures of the cinnamon roll and the cheesecake compliment each other so well. It tastes like it is wrapped in a satin cinnamon dress and beautifully adorned with a pecan crumble and caramel.🤤😍😋🤎 I've also had their key lime tart which is also fantastic💚🤍 The service is always so sweet and accommodating. And the ambiance is so cool and kind of vintage. The only thing is it can be a bit cold in there. But other than that, everything is awesome.💙

First time here and we weren't disappointed in any way. This is a great restaurant for quality regional Southern and Cajun dishes. The restaurant is located a few minutes north of I-20 and is convenient to I-55. If you're travelling on I-20 and on a schedule, it's worth the short detour. The restaurant itself is in a former school building built in the 1920s which lends some character to the experience. The Cajun seafood pasta was done perfectly - not overcooked which I've had at other restaurants with seafood pasta dishes. The left-over grilled brussel sprouts that came with my wife's dish were worth taking home but we weren't staying overnight unfortunately. They were also done perfectly. If you don't like brussel sprouts normally, you should give these a whirl.
David H — Google review
The overall restaurant is so beautiful I love the way they decorated everything and the bar area is so nice. They had nice spaces for parties, delicious food, and the staff were so sweet. Everything we ate was sooooo good especially the pasta and we tore up those crab tips with that sauce 😛

Great po’boys, refreshing drinks AND THE BEST DESSERT: the banoffee. We were just passing thru town googling great places to eat and we were extremely pleased with Saltine Restaurant. You have to try it! We also learned that it’s in a hip neighborhood. So if you have time - go explore.

Eclectic Southern fun place. Our waiter Hayden was amazing, happy and helpful. Food was excellent. I had the blue plate special red rice and beans with andouille and brussel sprouts with sweet potatoes blackened and a cream sauce. Y friends had the PO boy one catfish and one shrimp. Love this place. What a find.
Patricia R — Google review
Just grabbed solo dinner at the bar. Tried the shrimp poboy and had OldBay fries. Rather good, had maple cinnamon roll cheesecake for dessert. Really good taste was but I think the cinnamon roll was really overcooked and just didn’t go with the rest of the texture of the plate.
Michael A — Google review
Absolutely delicious! This place is amazing. The atmosphere is very unique and intriguing, but comfortable. It is inside an old converted elementary school. All of the food was amazing. I would especially recommend the spinach oysters! This area gets very busy on the weekends, but you can typically find parking somewhere…
James N — Google review
The atmosphere is really nice. The server didn’t seem too knowledgeable of the menu - suggesting salmon as opposed to local seafood. Also, the bar tender wasn’t familiar with gins when I asked if they had Hendricks and eventually served a martini with vodka. The grilled oysters were great. Do NOT order the crawfish bread. There were only 4 crawfish tails in total on this $16 appetizer. I felt totally ripped off. We ended up ordering more oysters because those were only things they seemed to do really well. I won’t return.

Mediterranean restaurant
Aladdin Mediterranean Grill is a charming BYOB cafe with a taverna vibe and a patio, offering flavorful Mediterranean cuisine from Egypt, Morocco, Jordan, Lebanon, and Greece. Since its opening in 2004 on Lakeland Drive, it has become a beloved spot for locals and visitors alike. Situated near the University of Mississippi Medical Center and St. Dominic Hospital, it attracts health-conscious professionals as well as diners from Fondren and beyond.
I recently had the pleasure of dining at Aladdin Mediterranean Grill, and I must say it was a delightful experience. From the moment I walked in, I was immediately impressed by the inviting atmosphere. The decor is beautifully done, with a charming fusion of traditional and modern Mediterranean elements that transports you straight to the Mediterranean coast. It's truly a feast for the senses and sets you in the right mood for a culinary adventure. The food was, in a word, exceptional. I ordered the Big Combo (4 pieces of shrimp, 2 pieces of lamb chops, and chicken kabab chunks), and the dishes were bursting with flavor. The lamb was perfectly cooked, tender, and seasoned just right, while the hummus was creamy and complemented by fresh pita bread. What impressed me even more was how quickly the food was brought to my table. Sometimes, quality and speed don't go hand in hand, but Aladdin Mediterranean Grill manages to deliver both. It's clear that they have mastered the art of efficient service without compromising on quality. Speaking of service, it was exceptional. The staff was attentive and friendly, making sure that all my needs were met without being intrusive. They were knowledgeable about the menu and happy to offer recommendations, adding a personal touch that enhanced the overall dining experience. In summary, Aladdin Mediterranean Grill is a must-visit. With its delicious food, efficient service, and superb atmosphere, it’s a spot where you feel both welcomed and well taken care of. Whether you're in a hurry or looking to enjoy a leisurely meal, this restaurant accommodates both with grace and flair. A truly satisfying experience that I would highly recommend to anyone craving Mediterranean cuisine.

Welcoming environment, with comfortable seating. Ordered mint Lebanese unsweetened tea to start, delicious. We got lamb and tilapia plates that hit the spot! The pita bread wasn’t as fresh and fluffy as we would’ve loved but it didn’t take too much away from the meal. Our two desserts were good as well.

Lamb chops were about 30$, 4 small pieces and a small portion. However, they brought us unlimited pitta bread which was nice.

Food: fresh clean salads. Flavorful and fresh ingredients. Do not forget to ask for their Shata Sauce if you can handle heat. Service: Our server Brittney was very pleasant and amazing. She made us feel right at home. Even though most of the tables were full, the appetizers and entrees came out on time. Ambiance: This is not a fine dining restaurant. Yea, the place is a bit worn out but it’s clean.

We came through here on a week night during a cross country drive. We chose our seat and were able to order quickly. We ordered the falafels as an appetizer. They were definitely unique among falafels I've tried, but unfortunately not in the best way. The texture was of chopped bits, like the chickpeas maybe weren't cooked all the way before they were mashed, or that they were rough chopped rather than mashed? I'm not sure, but they weren't my favorite. I ordered the hummus and lamb plate and my husband ordered the chicken shawarma. They were good, filling plates, and they came with a side of both wheat and white pita. The hummus and lamb plate offered the perfect portion of meat for me. I do think the plates are priced a little steep for what they are, but it was a good experience.

Parlor Market is a Southern restaurant and bar with an upscale rustic ambiance, featuring brick walls, wood beams, and a marble bar. The attention to detail is evident in the chic decor and the quality of drinks and dishes. The drink menu pays homage to the building's past as a leather shop with leather-backed menus, while marble countertops reflect its history as a marble warehouse. The mixologists offer unique twists on traditional drinks, such as the Frisco Sour.
Wow. Where do I start? The menu is impressive in its complexity yet small enough to be manageable. Bartender (Matt) is extremely talented and personable. Cocktails are creative and pleasant. Wait staff are friendly and attentive. Food was amazing. The halibut I ordered fell apart in my mouth and was cooked to perfection. Exquisite sides and sauces served with it. Wonderful experience. Highly recommend. 10 stars out of 5.

Wow! What a great experience we had in hosting our son's rehearsal dinner with Parlor Market. It was held in their gorgeous private room, 'Albert's', a few doors down from the restaurant. From the start, we had superb communication with great listening--making our event what we wanted (not what they wanted). I love how they manage to 'yes' and are customer driven. The food was exquisite. The service was impeccable. I can not rave enough about the attention to detail in food preparation/presentation, graciously kind service and an overall level of excellence in hospitality. Thank you Parlor Market for making our evening so very special! We especially thank chefs Joe and Robert and our incredible team of Taylor, David, Jennifer, Mackenzie, Vince and Matti. You were all superb and we loved working with you.

I came here on a Friday night for the first time. It was very busy, so I would recommend reservations if you you decide to come here. I was seated at the bar by choice and service was extremely slow. I would say it took more than forty five minutes just to get my entree. I ordered the calamari, the pasta primavera and my friend ordered a steak with hushpuppies on the side over a bed if lettuce. The food was tasty, but I wouldn't say it was anything extra special. Staff was friendly. The reason I rate this restaurant two stars is because this restaurant does not treat their employees with respect. I was disappointed to see that.

Wish I could give 10 stars! Fabulous food and fabulous service. Had steak and really cannot say enough about how good the food was. Also had a house salad to start (sorry, forgot to take pic), which was great (and I am picky about greens, etc.). Highly recommended! Much love from Austin, Texas+

BABALU® - Jackson is a vibrant and modern restaurant offering inventive Southern-influenced tacos, tapas, and cocktails. Despite the bustling atmosphere, the friendly staff ensures a pleasant experience. The food receives high praise for its quality, with highlights such as excellent guacamole and tasty tacos. However, some patrons note that the portion sizes may be on the smaller side. The bar stands out for its wonderful drinks and attentive service.
You have to pick the right time to go to this place. You could be waiting for about 30-40 minutes, but it’s worth it. The table side avocado dip is so good I could eat it all day. The staff always make sure everything is great.

Food was VERY good, the reason for 4 and not five starts is the serving. We order guacamole(which was excellent) but the apron of the guy who made it was … and a smile or a word could add to the taste 😀salmon was perfect, side of brushless sprouts was 2 sweet, no need to add sugar /sweater , grilled lettuce didn’t feel like the real thing… Shrimp and grits were yummy, price is decent, overall, stop here

This place was absolutely amazing. Ordering the guacamole was an experience on its own. They make it fresh right in front of you and it is absolutely delicious. I would also recommend the Mexican street corn. Like heaven in your mouth. We ordered 4 tacos, all great, a kids burger, two margaritas and a sangria. Our bill was 74. Given the quality of the food this was a great price. Also super kid friendly. The place was loud so kids are not a problem. I loved the decor as well. If it wasn't so hot in the afternoon we would have eaten outside. So far this has been my favorite restaurant while visiting Jackson.

Excellent environment / good vibes, good food, good music, good service. The menu is so unique and so tasty! Fresh, table side guacamole is a MUST! They can also omit some of the ingredients. Just ask! The queso is SO GOOD and unique. Get it! Chips are always fresh! My son loved his order / he got the wings. I always get the steak on a stick with potatoes and brocolini ans it’s always excellent. Going to rate it 5 stars for consistency! I do have one very helpful tip for management. Make sure wait staff seat people 6 feet apart during a pandemic. There was no one else in the room but they sat a family 4 inches from me which was awkward and uncomfortable and so unnecessary since all tables were vacant.
Jessica C — Google review
It's was great, we came mid day, and it was a nice crowd, however we were immediately seated. Every thing was fresh and the drinks were good. We ordered the freshly made guacamole and about 6 different tacos. We had a magnificent experience.

A fantastic place to eat on Fondren. Everything from the atmosphere to the food is great here. The hostess greets you with a friendly welcome and you are seated very quickly depending on the crowd level. The wait staff are very accommodating and quick on the wit. The choice of appetizers is good but most tell you that if you like guacamole you must order it here...they make it table side. The Baba burger is one of the best in the area but if you are in the mood for tacos, this is the place. They have a fully loaded bar so if it’s the liquid libations you’re looking for, they will suffice. Great place with excellent food.
Babagadoosh — Google review
Excellent fresh food. Based on food quality alone this would be a 5 star review. Every bite is packed full of flavor and seasoned delightfully. The flavors are rich and pleasant but not spicy. If you are a portion hog, you may not be happy. I show one picture of a taco next to my glasses. It is small but the chicken taco with cilantro lime aioli is one of the best tacos I have ever tasted. The queso dip for an appetizer is smashing. My husband ordered Salmon and it was WONDERFUL but portion sized smaller than a credit card. I found it amusing they announce to new guests that the portions are small before ordering. Since the seating & front service was a bit chaotic, I thought they announced the small portions because they were running out of food. However, our server Brian did a great job. Being seated was a bit chaotic and lengthy for the amount of employees that were running around. It would have made the atmosphere more pleasant if things were managed better. The inside dining is fairly comfortable but not as nice as the food would call for. The projection screen with old movies playing is a plus if you can see it. I can see why people waited much longer to be seated outside. The flowers were in full bloom and made it picturesque. Overall, this is a wonderful place to dine. The lack of a 5th star in the 4 star rating is because the bathrooms were unclean and in great need of repair. From the ceiling tiles to a stopped up 1 of 2 ladies toilets, the bathroom was old and made me wonder if the kitchen was in the same poor condition. By food quality alone, I would highly recommend this place to anyone who has a palate for fine food.

I’ve flown my child out of this airport as an unaccompanied minor several times now. The staff are wonderful, both for the airline and TSA. Parking is great and prices are decent for regional airport flights. We definitely aim to fly out of PIB for all flights if we’re able to.

The counter agent was extremely cordial and pleasant. The problem exists with the actual TSA agents. After I disclosed to them how to open the lock on my firearm case, they proceeded to completely destroy my clothes. They ransacked my belongings and unfolded my clothes and then just threw them back inside my duffel bag. To make matters worse, they removed/stole the lock from the outer perimeter of my duffel bag.

Extremely disappointed. I called along with United’s baggage claim for (4) four days trying to locate a bag that was never sent to its final destination. There was never an answer no matter what time of day we called. We used every prompt and still no answer. The bag information was never updated, so there was nothing anyone could do until the airport scanned it. I tried everything and was completely stressed and defeated. Just very disappointed.

Airport is nice and small and easy to get in and out of. However, it is tired and in severe need of an an upgrade. Unfortunately, this isn't the worst thing about this airport. On the last 3 visits here the rental car services have been nothing short of a hot mess. Not enough cars or staff to support the operations despite customers having reservations. Tonight those customers, including g myself waited for hours for a car that never came. Time for a new Operations manager here, the current one is failing.

From the rental lot to the bag claim area to the terminals, this place is a dirty, ill maintained dump. Been flying in and out of JAN since 2006 and it has always been a quick and convenient experience, but I don’t think the carpets or anything have been replaced or upgraded in twenty years. The rental car lots aren’t manned any longer, the booths are dirty shacks, the exit gates are literally coming apart into the roadway. Today, 10/16/25 at 10:55, I waited fifteen mins for closed bathroom because the attendant was in there allegedly cleaning. I was the first person to enter after she left and there was piss all over the seat, lid, outside the bowl and gross lint and grunge on horizontal Surfaces like nobody has wiped them for six months. Look at the walls and the built up grunge between the partition door panel and the wall and on top of the tiles. Soap dispensers missing, paper towel dispenser hanging out of its mount, all the mirrors chipping and rusting, chairs at the gates are all covered in rust and chipping paint. Did you really clean anything while you were in there for fifteen mins or just run a mop over the floor??? Then there’s the dog toilet area adding to the overall dank smell and all the walls are scuffed and dented. Disgusting!

Airprt itself is okay. Minor issues like missing floor tiles. The main problem is that the rental car service is not reliable to unusable. I waited for a car for 4 hours then the staff just left for the day, they have given away my reservation, I have gotten calls after my trip asking if I stole the car, they have over charged by 10x, and under charged by the same amount. I will avoid this airport like the plague that it is.
