Pink Pony

Bar & grill
Located in the Chippewa Hotel on Mackinac Island, Pink Pony is a popular nautical-themed restaurant known for its American cuisine. The indoor dining area offers a cozy pub-like atmosphere, while the outdoor patio provides stunning views of the water. Renowned for its mouthwatering dining options and refreshing beverages, this establishment also features live entertainment.
The Pink Pony is such an iconic spot! My mom kept telling me I had to go, and now I can see why! The place was packed, and we had to wait a little over an hour for a table, but it was worth it. We just shopped around until we got the text that our table was ready. We were seated outside right by the water, and the view was incredible. Everything was clean, the music was great, and the staff was super friendly. The atmosphere was lively and fun—everyone around us seemed to be having a great time. For food, we ordered the fish tacos and the whitefish sandwich, and both were delicious! The sweet potato fries were the real standout, though—so good. The only downside is that they never played Pink Pony Club while we were there, which would’ve been the cherry on top! Lol Overall, this place lived up to the hype and then some. I would absolutely come back next time I’m on Mackinac Island!

This place is a classic tourist trap but is good for what it is. We came for lunch, we were not provided the option to sit with a view of the lake so for us this was just a normal restaurant experience. I ordered the whitefish dip. It was OK but somewhat fishier than other ones I’ve tried. The pita chips were crunchy and yummy. The French dip I ordered with caramelized onions and mushrooms. I wouldn’t do that upgrade again. The French dip was good and had a lot of meat but nothing to write home about. Upgraded to fries cost $4. Beers range from $11-13 and cocktails $20-$30, I would not order alcohol here unless you’re ok with those prices. Our server was a bit standoffish and efficient but not very friendly. Overall, I likely wouldn’t come back and would try a different restaurant but there is nothing wrong per se with this restaurant. It’s just very mid.
Amanda M — Google review
Was highly recommended this place for lunch or dinner when we went to the island and it didn't disappoint. The drinks were strong and delicious and the food was great. We got the flatbread appetizier, a salad with goat cheese and apples, and the whitefish tacos. Our waiter (sadly I can't remember his name now) was amazing and hilarious. We got to sit outside on the back patio near the water. It was a relaxing lunch with delicious foods and drinks. Highly recommend.
Al — Google review
Cool atmosphere and good drinks, but food was disappointing for the price - came at exactly 11:30 (start of lunch) and had them add me to waitlist which was about 35min. Good: They got us outside on the deck and the server Harry was polite and quick. My wife tried the Rum Runner (frozen which she wasn’t expecting) and dirty martini - both good. Kids liked the kids meals and the French onion soup was good as well. Mid: Tacos were good and matched what the other peoples pictures showed but sat under heat lamp too long and the tortillas were hard and stiff. I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt since it was busy and other people seemed to have good luck with it. Bad: My $21 Prime Rib French dip was not Prime rib (see picture) and on par with the Arby’s version for flavor. I was so looking forward to some nicely slice ribeye on there. This is a wild price for this level of sandwich - would not order. Overall it wasn’t bad, but I would choose a different spot next time and recommend against the roast beef sandwich.

The Pink Pony is a must stop when on the island. A fun, eclectic atmosphere with great food, drinks, and more. We loved sitting in our booth streetside. Great for people watching! The Patty melt with sweet potato fries was a great choice for lunch. Came back on day 2 and the beet salad was fantastic. Best pulled pork sandwich I’ve had!
Joby J — Google review
It was the best prepared food and best service that we have had in a long time. The Prime Rib, vegetables, and mashed potatoes were all fabulous. My wife had Beer Battered Whitefish which was great. The harbor view was beautiful. The service was terrific. Food came out very quickly. This place is VERY well managed. Thank you, Pink Pony, for a terrific dinner.
Robert K — Google review
We love the Pink Pony. Sitting on the outdoor deck to have lunch or dinner is a wonderful experience. Tonight, our server was friendly and courteous. I enjoyed the gf French Onion soup and a side salad. I had a taste of my husband's roasted beet salad. And our friends had the fish and chips and fish tacos. Their kids ordered the chicken tenders - as always - because they say are the best on the island! 😄
Carla R — Google review
We chose here to eat outside on the enclosed deck. We were apprehensive at first as it was the day before the Grand Hotel shuts down for the season and was a bit chilly out. To our pleasant surprise they had several pyramid outdoor heaters that kept the area toasty and still enjoy the fall colors! The food was even better than the last time we ate here. The white fish sandwich hit the spot!!! Very glad we made the decision to stop here and eat.

Nestled in a Bavarian-style 1905 home, Woods Restaurant and Bobby's Bar offers a blend of European and American cuisine. The attentive staff welcomes guests by name, creating a comfortable and homely atmosphere. The restaurant is adorned with tufted couches, high-backed chairs, needlepoint pillows, and various awards adorning the walls.
Dining at Woods Restaurant with three generations of family on Mackinac Island was a magical, storybook experience from start to finish. Arriving by horse-drawn carriage set the perfect tone for an enchanting evening. The food was unforgettable—the chicken fricassee was easily a top 10 dish, and the creamy spätzle was pure comfort in every bite. My mother in law raved about the steak soup. It was the perfect setting to celebrate my spouse’s promotion and our daughter’s acceptance to MSU. The ambiance, the flavors, and the charm of the whole experience made it truly special. We will definitely return—it’s a place that captures the heart and the palate. Bravo!

A must do experience on the island. Starts and ends with a quiet, relaxing ride through the woods. Stellar service, ambiance, and food. We really recommend the elk rib and the grand pecan ball. Cocktails were among the best we've had anywhere. No place better to celebrate our 10 year anniversary 💖
Victoria E — Google review
As someone who is German, my bar for authentic German food is set pretty high and The Woods delivered beyond expectations. The atmosphere truly feels like a classic German dining experience, and the food was not only authentic but exceeded what I hoped for. I left highly impressed and will absolutely be back.

Had dinner here last night and it was wonderful! We arrived early and were kindly greeted to check in for our reservation. We started with the Steak Soup and Organic Baby Greens salad. Both were a great way to start our meal. As bread lovers, we were particularly enthused by the complementary pretzel bread which came hot to the table, it was so good! We had the Schnitzel and Filet Mignon with the Bavarian Dark Chocolate Crème Bavarois and Warm Apple Strudel desserts! All was excellent! I was dressed way down after flying in and biking around the island all day, with messy hair, which I was worried about since this is such such a nice establishment, but I am pleased to say my appearance didn’t effect the service provided! Our night was made extra special by the following staff: Tecora (you are a gem, thanks for the laugh, and for being so great!), Tavoue, and Walter 4th! You all made our evening! We hope to be back one day.

If I could give this place a 20/10, I absolutely would. From start to finish, our experience was nothing short of exceptional. The food was outstanding, the ambiance was beautiful and inviting, and the service truly elevated the entire evening. Our server, Karim, was incredibly attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable! He made us feel genuinely welcomed and taken care of. It’s rare to find a place that delivers on every level, but this one literally exceeded all expectations. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a memorable dining experience. 🙂

My wife and I had a romantic dinner at The Woods Restaurant. Our food was unbelievable, my Delmontico steak was cooked to perfection, and my wife's filet was one of the best she ever had. Pianist in the background along with wonderful atmosphere. We will definitely be returning!
Mike A — Google review
Very slow service. It took them about 20-30 minutes just to take our drink orders, then another 20 to take our food orders despite us telling them 2x that we were ready to order. It took another hour for our food to be ready To be fair we did have a large party, but there were other people there just as long as us. The beet salad was very good, but a little small. I paid $30 for two bowls macaroni and cheese for my kids only for them to be served Kraft Macaroni and Cheese.
Julie W — Google review
This place was SO nice, it's very posh, so if you're going you should expect to be paying quite a bit, I mean it is owned by the Grand Hotel and they have escargot on the menu if that's something that suits your fancy or something you're wanting to try. The service was great and it's easy to have conversations, they had a young man playing the piano while you eat. It was all around very peaceful to be in there .

Fort Mackinac Tea Room Restaurant

Mentioned on

Lunch restaurant
The Fort Mackinac Tea Room Restaurant is a charming lunch spot located at a historic military landmark. It offers cozy indoor dining as well as a patio with picturesque views of the harbor. For dinner, guests have various options including the legendary Main Dining Room overlooking the Straits of Mackinac, and more casual choices such as Woods Restaurant, The Gate House, and The Jockey Club.
Really a very nice place, the food is good, for my part I recommend the scones and the chicken sandwich. The main reason why it is completely worth visiting is because of the views, incredible. Nice place to spend a family time.
Alfonso G — Google review
August 2024 - My family of 5 came here to grab a bite to eat and to enjoy the beautiful view. I have 3 daughters from age 7-11 and they loved the food. We ordered the assorted scones, milkshakes for the girls (chocolate and two strawberries) and a board of cheese, crackers and some meat. Overall the food and drinks were very good. The jam and mustard were really good. However, I felt we could have had more meat but other than that the food was good. The view is wild, you get a great shot of the area and off to the far right you can see the bridge. The second server we had was good but the first person we had didn't seem to care to be there. I wouldn't let that hurt my time and I would suggest you come by for the view and some good food or drinks.
Brian D — Google review
We visited this place during our Fort Mackinac trip. We were getting late and kids needed lunch before we explored the fort more. It's a pretty shoddy eatery inside Fort Mackinac. The positive is that availability of food inside Fort. Food was terrible, staffs seemed overworked and didn't care. Our BBQ chicken burger seemed under cooked. The indoor area was antiquated but not at all decorated. None spent any money other than whitewashing the walls. Sit out area had a great view but it was a bit cold in the morning. Anyway we had to sit out. Avoid this place if u can.

So amazing! What a wonderful surprise while we were Touring Mackinac Island in the horse carriages. We stopped & got off at Fort Mackinac to explore & soak in more history. We were getting hungry & decided to see if this a snack bar. Tremendous surprise! We found a Tea Room run by the Grand Hotel! What!!! Everything we ordered was perfect & delicious! We all loved our lunches. The mountain top view was fantastic! God has blessed us with such magnificent views here on earth. The service was terrific!! Such a sweet surprise!! Be sure & enjoy the hot Cherry 🍒 Cobbler with ice cream when you venture up there! Just wonderful!!

Nice view of the city! We got a cup of tea and enjoyed it next to the fire. It was a bit chilly so it was nice to warm up for a moment in here. Tea selection was good. I recommend the jasmine green tea.
Sara M — Google review
Absolutely beautiful view and delicious food! The server was really nice. Would recommend!
Andrea T — Google review
the view is beautiful!! it was extremely windy. we were seated outside by the edge at first but the tables were about to blow over so they moved us to another table without an umbrella. the food is so overpriced!!! $17 for a basic turkey wrap and $13 for the pecan ball. the turkey wrap was mediocre. pecan ball is very good and rich. service wasn’t great- they brought us the check before we finished eating and didn’t offer any dessert. seemed like they were trying to rush us out although we went in the middle of the day and they weren’t busy
Ali — Google review
The host sat on his phone for 5 minutes while we waited in the rain. He was perfectly aware we were there but said nothing. We went inside and asked a server to seat us. When we were served, he spilled hot water on me and didn't even offer to bring napkins to clean it up. He just left me there with burning hot water on my lap. They also sat us at a dirty table, even though there was only one other occupied table. The tea was very good. The food was mediocre for the price. The atmosphere was lovely. Staff needs to improve greatly.

Gate House

Traditional American restaurant
The Gate House is a casual American tavern located at the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island. It features a wood-dominant decor, a bar, and a patio for guests to enjoy. This historic building, once a carriage house, offers classic American dishes, seafood, and burgers in a cozy and friendly atmosphere. Visitors can savor delicious cocktails or the famous Trapper Burger while taking in the sunset from the porch or staying warm by the fire.
Stopped in for lunch after walking up to Grand Hotel. There was no wait, and we sat on the patio. Our server Roman was very polite. We ordered 2 salads and a cup of chowder. The food took about 20 minutes to get. The cob salad was quite fresh with mixed greens and lots of tomatoes. The dressing was light and very good. The chowder was also good. The price was about average, I was expecting higher considering where we were. They have a full bar inside. There is a large room for a party or large group. The hostess was so nice.
Amy R — Google review
There was nothing special about this place. Everything was deep fried, greasy and heavy. We ordered the sampler and it was ok, nothing I would recommend. We also ordered the onion rings, they were good but way too much batter and greasy. I ordered the cheeseburger, missed that it was a double patty, so I ended up removing one of the patties and then paid extra for the fries since it’s an up charge. I immediately wanted to taste the fries but they were cold, not even warm. I tried looking for the server, she never came back to check on us, since we were in a rush, we left. So I ended up paying for the up charge for cold fries and didn’t even get to enjoy them.

3 of us stopped in for lunch after visiting the Grand.. 3p on a Saturday no wait. Attentive server. We shared everything- food was good.
Heather — Google review
Great place! We stopped in for lunch and had good service and good food. White fish sandwich and tuna rice bowl were both awesome. Server disappeared at the end of our meal, which seems to be a theme on the island. But other than that everything was great
Austin W — Google review
Had a really great time here over the weekend. We popped in for an earlyish dinner before catching the boat home. Didn't have to wait all (got there around 5:30 on a Saturday) staff was very attentive and kind. Pace was great. Drinks and food were yummy. Prices were fair especially on a tourist centered island.
Alexandra K — Google review
After 2 days on the island and really mediocre food, this place was like heaven. Roman (hope I got the name right) was wonderful super friendly and attentive, food was great we ordered some clam chowder, a Mac Daddy burger and the American smash burger. 100% recommend :) PS: too hungry to remember taking the pictures of the burgers.
Ellie L — Google review
decent food, expensive. but it's on the island so that's to be expected. good service, friendly, although they barely interacted with us. but our waiter was still very good. you must wait outside to be seated, but they have indoor and outdoor seating
Sarah B — Google review
The food was great. The service was slow and our server was not very kind. He was neglectful of our table and we watched him have a fab gab session with other servers while we waited for everything. The music was so loud inside we sat outside which was a marginal improvement. We've been visiting the gatehouse for many years but will not be visiting for a while.

I only took a few pictures of the food to be very honest but as a Jamaican making a review of the food 😋 you must know it was amazing! Collin was our server thats guided us through our course but let me also give a shout out to the entire staff from the hostess, bartender, server and the kitchen staff; The service was excellent. Okay back to the food now! Grilled oyster 🦪 Lamb meatballs - Lobster pasta Salmon - Dessert All very tasty All very delicious I recommend 100%

Beautiful patio, comfortable chairs, the staff is friendly and helpful, and the food was amazing! We had the lobster roll, split the Caesar salad, and the smoked cauliflower sandwich. Everything was delicious. Would highly recommend!
Daniel B — Google review
Service was below average. Felt like we were not checked on, the order was wrong. Daughter's burger was smaller than my other daughter kids burger and $9 more. Gruyere burger was ok, but no real flavors. Chicken in chicken sandwich was dry. This is a bummer as it is our go to when we go to Mackinac island.
Ben V — Google review
Excellent food. Excellent service. The French onion soup was some of the best I have ever had. The prime rib and short rib were wonderful. The grand pecan ball is a nice , lighter option for desert. The chocolate sauce was way above what I have typically had.
Jerry H — Google review
Six of us for dinner with 5:00 reservations. Maurice was our waiter. Oh my gosh, he couldn't have been nicer, more attentive, made great suggestions that we all loved. Really great personality too. The food was excellent. Drinks were the best ever.really cold beers with great selections. We would highly recommend this restaurant. Be sure to sit in Maurices section for the best service ever.

We enjoyed our dinner at the Jockey Club. The shining star to our evening was Nick our server. We look forward to seeing him again in the future. Our meals ( lunch and dinner ) were good. My husband had the French Onion soup with his dinner and it was the best I've ever had. We plan to return in the future.

Had a wonderful dining experience at the Jockey Club. The swordfish and filet were outstanding and perfectly prepared. Norlan , our waiter, was attentive, personable, and delightful. He went out of his way to make our evening special. We dined on the patio and the evening was cool. Upon request, he willingly brought over a propane heater to keep us comfortable! Wow! Such attentiveness was greatly appreciated. Thank you Norlan, and chef for creating a memorable evening. Highly recommend!!

Chef Tim truly elevated the dining experience at the Grand Hotel, transforming it into a remarkable event. His exceptional talent shone through, especially considering my restrictive diet. While the other chefs at the Grand Hotel were pleasant, their offerings felt basic. However, my time at the Jockey Club restaurant under Chef Tim's guidance was the most extraordinary culinary adventure I've ever had.

The Chuckwagon

Breakfast restaurant
Restaurant
The Chuckwagon is a cozy, long-standing American eatery on Mackinac Island with a cowboy theme. This old-fashioned diner has been serving locals and visitors for nearly 60 years, offering a delightful breakfast and lunch experience. The menu features classic favorites like cinnamon swirl bread French toast, flapjacks, and the popular Mackinac Breakfast Burrito for breakfast, while lunch options include burgers, sandwiches, and salads.
Hidden Gem for Breakfast Lovers Review: If you’re in the mood for a breakfast spot that’s all about great food over fancy decor, this is the place. On the main drag, this little diner is pure comfort—a no-frills, casual joint with just a few tables, the aroma of coffee, and a kitchen that feels close enough to be home. The menu is straightforward, but everything is made fresh and with care. I tried the classic eggs, bacon, and pancakes combo, and every bite was just perfect. The pancakes were fluffy and golden-brown, the eggs cooked to order, and the bacon was crispy without being overdone. They also serve excellent coffee—strong and just what you need to kick off the morning. The best part? The prices are reasonable, especially for the quality and portions. Service is friendly, fast, and personal; the staff made me feel like a regular on my first visit. Just a heads-up: seating is limited, so get there early if you can. If you’re after a fancy setting, this might not be your spot. But if you’re here for the food, friendly service, and a laid-back vibe, this hole-in-the-wall is a breakfast lover’s dream.
Becky F — Google review
Breakfast at the Chuckwagon was interesting and delicious. We sat at the counter-seating is limited-and watched the cook at close range navigate the small space with expertise. He literally could reach behind his back for plates and everything else was a symphony of movement and efficiency. He worked the flattop like a conductor leading the band. Great place to hear the locals talk about the latest remodeling project and the fight at a local bar. Quite entertaining. Menu prices very reasonable by island standards. Short and to the point breakfast listings. The Chuckwagon Special-two eggs, toast, hashbrowns, choice of meats-was the choice of DW this visit. And it was perfect. Eggs, ham, and potatoes delicious. My choice was a little more on the sweet side. French toast made with cinnamon swirl bread and topped with cream cheese filling and mixed berries with a serving of sausage links. The French Toast was an amazing combination of flavors and sweetness. Really scrumptious. If you enjoy a sweet start to the day, don’t skip this. A highly recommended spot to start the day.

We ate lunch here upon the suggestion of our kayak tour guide. He said they had the best burgers on the island. I don't know if they are, but they were very good. The place is a diner and VERY small. However, we got a table as soon as we walked in. It was warm inside and cramped, but the service was friendly and quick. The guy in charge, possibly the owner, had a Bengals hat on and we immediately said "Who Dey" because we live in Cincinnati. He responded the same so I felt we had a little bond with the place. I had the Who Dey burger, which was a burger cooked on the flattop with pulled pork, onion rings, slaw, and a sweet sauce. It was very messy but yummy. My wife had the Blue Cheese burger and enjoyed every last bite. Their fries are non-traditional because they are cut in rounds on a spiralizer. They were excellent.

The Chuck Wagon came recommended to us and it didn't disappoint we stopped for an early lunch seating is limited wouldn't recommend big groups and there is a wait at times but the food is worth the wait. Its a very small restaurant as my picture shows. We got the rattle snake burger and the Aloha burger both were very good the food came out fast. They also serve breakfast as well which I hear is just as good. Highly recommend!!
C. H — Google review
Excellent burgers and fries in an amazing little restaurant. Eat at the counter or at a few tables. Comes highly recommended by the locals. The owners are friendly and outgoing. We recommend coming early as they fill up very quickly. Take-out available.
Katrin L — Google review
It's one of those comfy food places, a place with no frills, but reliably good breakfast. Centered right in the middle of the main strip, this place can get crowded but offers great food at a good price. I wouldn't recommend a big group. There is bar top seating and smaller tables.
Jon L — Google review
NOTE: CASH ONLY Best Burger on the island! We had a cheeseburger and it was delicious! Served on a pretzel bun, it was perfectly cooked, prepared quickly and served with a smile. The owners have been here for 16 years and run a fabulous business. A definite yes for a quick lunch on the island!
Michelle B — Google review
I couldn't order off the lunch menu which annoys me about places. Not really one to eat many breakfast foods so I always like places a little better when you an order lunch anytime. Never really understood the reason for places being this way, seems pretty simple to just make whatever's on the menu all day. So I just got a small order of biscuits and gravy and it was fine. My wife actually got eggs over medium that were cooked over easy, didn't really like the hash browns. So the food wasn't great. But they were definitely friendly and the service was good as well.

Located on Astor Street, the Yankee Rebel Tavern is a spacious Colonial eatery that offers regional eats and beers. The restaurant is named after Ambrose R. Davenport, a War of 1812 veteran who was assigned to Mackinac Island by the Army and later became a prisoner of war after refusing allegiance to the British crown.
We had a great dinner here. The key lime martini and prime rib were standouts. More than the food, I wanted to sing the praises of the staff. The restaurant was slammed with several huge parties, but all the staff hustled together to make sure everyone was taken care of. A perfect meal after a day of riding the bikes around the island.

Having a gluten allergy I’ve been here in the past because they offer GF buns for burgers and the food was always great. This was not the case at our most recent visit. My GF bun was moldy, brought it to the waiters attention and they got a new bun for me and I never heard another word of it. I wasn’t going to ask but I’m surprised they didn’t waive the up charge for the bun at least!

Wonderful experience with Our Server John. He was awesome and went above and beyond to make us feel at home. Wonderful food and atmosphere.

We walked around the main drag of the island looking for somewhere to get dinner and this place had some amazing options. We had the most amazing server, Yvette. She was so personable and took great care of us. She was on top of our drinks and got us everything we needed. The food was so good. We had the Chilean bass and the mac and cheese and both were so rich with taste. We had a great time and would definitely go back next time we are on the island. Thank you Yvette for a great evening!

We were a group of 7 on the very busy final Saturday on the island. It was very busy but our waitress was very sharp and friendly with all of our variety of food and drink requests. The whitefish bites were delicious. Everyone else enjoyed their meals and pictures are attached. We will return next June for sure during Lilacfest!
Jean K — Google review
Too much went wrong for a higher rating. Beer on the menu of draft choices but they don't have it. 5 or 6 booths open (the entire time in the restaurant) and the host woman states the area is closed. Host woman was swatting/zapping hordes of flies against the glass. Stuffy, warm environment needs some ventilation. Sign outside states the lunch special as pulled pork, but it was actually pulled chicken. Pot roast sliders, fries, and grilled cheese weren't too bad. Wouldn't likely return due to all the issues.

We visited this restaurant last week during our second family trip to the island this summer with a large group of 17 people — 7 kids at one table and 8 adults at another, right next to each other. Our server, John, made it very clear from the start that he was not happy to serve us. From the moment we began figuring out who was on which check, he snapped at us multiple times about not caring about that and he’d figure it out. When my mother-in-law asked if the steak appetizer was enough for a meal, he seemed confused. She clarified by saying, “The steak, it’s the appetizer,” to which he responded, “I’m aware that the steak is an appetizer, I know the menu ma’am— what is your question?”. When we got our food instead of asking if there was anything we needed he just kept yelling at the group “what else can I drag, people? Come on, come on” Two of the kids’ meals never arrived. By the time we were all finished eating, my sister-in-law asked to have them removed from the bill. Instead of apologizing, he argued and said he’d bring them out, and when she declined (since her child had already eaten a sibling’s meal), he rolled his eyes and mumbled something about having to ask the manager as he walked away. The entire experience felt like we were at one of those restaurants where the staff is intentionally rude — except this wasn’t meant to be part of the fun. It was simply horrible service. The food was okay, but the service from our waiter was obnoxiously unprofessional.

Fine dining restaurant
The Grand Hotel Main Dining Room offers a lavish dining experience with the delightful sounds of the Grand Hotel Orchestra in the background. Overlooking the iconic front porch, it provides a picturesque view that's perfect for capturing memories. The legendary luncheon buffet features an array of delectable options including oysters, smoked fish, cheeses, meats, and desserts. Whether you're staying at the hotel or just visiting Mackinac Island, this is a must-visit destination for an impressive meal.
It was a great once in a lifetime style experience. The food was excellent and beyond my expectations. Gladly my wife informed me of which piece of silverware to use when. We had the opportunity to have the Red menu. Scallop was good perfect. I enjoyed the warm flavor that accompanied it. Garden Vegetable with Lemon Kale Pesto Pesto soup was a solid vegetable soup. I really enjoyed it. Arugula and Watermelon salad was delicious. With mint for additional green the was an occasional splash of cool against Agave Jalapeño Vinaigrette. The texture counterbalance of the watermelon was a surprise and a delight Pretzel-Crusted Chicken Breast was good. I was worried a pretzel crust would not pan out but it a nice consistency and size, not too crunchy. Michigan Cherry Rhubarb Cobbler was a delightful served with coffee. Really a nice top off. It came out warm with a scoop of ice cream.

We planned a visit to Mackinaw Island for our annual girl's trip. To get the full Grand Hotel experience, we decided to try the lunch buffet. It was open from 12-2pm, early May. The service was excellent and the atmosphere was nice. The tables were fully set with linens and silverware. There were several courses of food to select from, to include salad, soup, other salads like pasta, potato, etc. Entrees included turkey, roast beef, chicken and fish. Oysters and shrimp cocktail were also available. And for dessert, there were several options to choose from. Some of the food was good, but the entrees were not excellent, especially for the $77 price. We enjoyed ourselves and the experience, but not sure it was worth the price. As a side note, we didn't stay at the hotel. There is a fee of $12 to enter the hotel and enjoy a self guided tour. If you pay this when you first enter the hotel, the $12 will be deducted from the lunch buffet price when you show your receipt. The walk to get to the hotel is up hill but you can get a taxi ride for $9 each. The walk down hill is much easier! About a 3.5 review

Very disappointed in the food for the price. $77.00 per person plus $12.00 to get into the building. Food is served buffet style. We were in the first 10 people seated. The hot dishes were dried out and the carved beef was overcooked and tough. The oysters in the 1/2 shell were very sandy. However service was great. The best was the salmon and hot cherry cobbler. Finger sandwiches weren’t too bad, very little cream cheese on the cucumber sandwiches.

Extensive breakfast buffet (you can also order from the menu). Friendly attentive service. My coffee cup was never empty. The croissant, pastries, and cinnamon sticky buns were highlights.

Lived in Michigan for 52 years. I have never been at the grand Hotel for lunch. I thought we would take our friends from Louisiana who have never been there either. The food was very disappointing. The prime rib was dry, the pork loin was dry, the chicken was dry,. We asked for iced tea a couple of times and had to remind the servers to bring them to us. I couldn’t believe the $70 buffet price for the type of food that we got. I was really embarrassed to bring my friends here from out of state.

We enjoyed our buffet lunch at the Grand. Such a huge variety of options! I especially loved the oysters, the roast beef, the salad selection and the ice cream ball with pecans and hot fudge. Everything I has was fresh and delicious. The service was not as gracious as I remember from my last visit, but it was a very busy summer crowd this time. Is it worth the price? I wouldn't pay that much on the mainland even for a very good brunch buffet... but the atmosphere of the Grand hotel can't be beat and it's kind of a "must do" especially if this will be your only visit. We are on Mackinac Island for the first time for our annual girls trip. We were told a must do was dinner at the Grand Hotel. We figured it would be our splurge dinner as it is a price fix menu and cocktails and wine start at 20.00 and up. So it was a night we were looking forward to. Which is why the disappointment is so epic. From start to finish the service was sporadic and the food was not good. We got the wrong orders and the food was institutional and cold. You had to pay on the way into the dinning room which was fine, and we got charged after for our cocktails. That bill had the wrong drinks on it and had to be straightened out. Bottom line if you want bad food, mediocre service and overpriced cocktails then the Grand Hotel is for you.

Tourist trap obviously and don't bother getting the lunch buffet, you will be very disappointed. What the hell is going on with that steak I ate? Never experienced the texture of steak meat in the bin, it was like something concocted in a food lab?

Lounge
Nestled in one of the oldest buildings on Mackinac Island, Mustang Lounge is a long-standing tavern exuding a rustic charm. The lodge-like interior and old-world atmosphere make it a popular spot for locals and tourists alike. Whether you're unwinding after a day of exploration or looking for a taste of local flavor, this family-owned establishment offers American grub and an array of craft beers.
If it’s not cold this entire place if perfect, but even in the freezing off season this place is still open. We’re not gonna talk about the price because everything here is on the expensive side. Whatever you pay for the food, I can assure you it’s worth it. I had zero complaints and I can’t wait to come back. I got the steak and crab dinner, no complaints there. The beer was local and delicious. You can park your snowmobile really anywhere and walk on in, zero percent busy in the off season so you have time to sit and enjoy the food.

Love this place Veterans and LEO get a discount. Service is awesome, so are food and drinks. We come here every year for apps and drinks. Best place on the island for both!

Totally impressed! The food was so good. We were able to have our dogs with us on the front patio. The chicken sandwich was my favorite. It had a kick with a bit of hot sauce and the slaw mix toned it down and paired beautifully. The fries were crisp and tasty. And the seared in mustang brand on the bun made the perfect presentation. Salads were tasty and the cheese curds were the perfect starter. Would definitely recommend if you have your pet on the island as there are a very limited number of places that allow them.

Stopped here for dinner and were able to sit outside. Great for enjoying the weather and people watching! The service and food were good. My husband had a Reuben and I had boneless wings and the kale Caesar. The kale Caesar wasn’t bad, but the kale is flash fried in oil and it changed the whole salad. It was pretty oily and not what you expect when ordering a salad. It wasn’t inedible just not my favorite. Overall a good experience though!!

Incredible duck bacon wontons with some cream cheese in the middle. Huge portion for the money. Enough for a meal for 1 person or an appetizer for 2. The sauce is also legit. Not sure if it comes prepackaged or not, but I don’t care. It was one of the better things I had on the island! Bartenders were also pretty cool! My wife wanted veggies for an app so the guy bartender got a plate for her from the wing menu. Nice fire fighter/ first responder badges inside

Restaurant
Mary's Bistro Draught House is an indoor-outdoor restaurant in Mackinac Island that offers wood-grilled meats and rotisserie chicken. It has a modern vibe with a 50 tap selection of craft beer and cocktails, artisanal pizza, burgers, house-made chicken pot pie, and locally sourced whitefish.
After hiking most of the island my husband and I were famished. Getting back onto main street I just decided to ask a local worker where she liked to eat. She immediately recommended Mary's Bistro for their hand breaded chicken tenders. So, naturally we decided great that's the spot. We arrived and there was no wait which was perfect because it was on the later end of lunch time. Our waitress (Leanna) was very attentive and our drinks never went dry. I ordered the half order of the chicken tenders which came with fried (amazing), coleslaw (not your traditional and also amazing) and 4 chicken tenders (amazingly delicious and worth it) my husband got the special of the day which was a chicken salad on fresh sourdough but with a curry twist. Goodness it was delicious! Highly recommended for a lunch here on the Island.

As a vegetarian, I found the choices lacking at this restaurant. The food tasted pretty good but I gave it 3 stars because of the cost value. Grilled cheese without the pulled pork was good but still $19. Truffle fries that didn’t taste truffly for extra $5. In addition the wild mushroom pizza was overpowered by the lemon oil and just tasted lemony for $22. Service was friendly but the restaurant was very dark and gloomy with a great view of the harbor - I really wanted to give this 3.5 stars

Beautiful views, and good food. Highly recommend the pear salad. Kids loved the chicken nugget meals. All kids menu options were $10 and included fries. If you’re looking for a kid friendly spot, come here. Do NOT go to Millie’s.

Love this place great drinks and excellent service! They have old fashioned’s on tap that are super good. Slightly off the beaten path! 906 rewards participants too! Great full menu. Awesome ambience on both sides. Outdoor seating is also available! Come, eat, drink, and have fun with the whole family!
Christopher W — Google review
The food was decent, though nothing particularly memorable. I went with the chicken tenders, which the restaurant is apparently known for. They had noticeably more flavor than the other dishes at our table, which was surprising. For instance, the pulled pork grilled cheese lacked a lot of flavor you’d expect from a proper grilled cheese, and came off a bit bland in comparison to the chicken tenders. The portions were pleasant though! The view from the outdoor seating area is definitely a plus, but the heat made it unbearable, so we sat inside. The indoor atmosphere was relaxed, and the service was friendly and attentive, which helped balance the experience.

Fantastic restaurant! We sat outside and it was very pleasant. Shout-out to our waiter Max who recommended awesome stouts to us! I recommend a the pecan salad and pimento mac'n'cheese (a half portion is still huge).

This place will forever hold a special place in my heart and one of my favorite stops when visiting. Only stopped in for a quick drink waiting for the ferry back to the mainland. Atmosphere was fun and energetic as they had live music. Bartenders and servers were warm and friendly. They had a great selection of beers on tap as well as bottled/canned, and had a good mix of cocktails as well.

I was SHOCKED that there was no bathroom or water available after going through security to the gate area. There was a completely empty vending machine. If you’re not going to restock your vending machine, you need to have water available. Absolutely ridiculous. There should also be a huge sign to warn you that there is no bathroom or beverages once you go through security. I had to leave for water and the bathroom and come back through security again. Also note that this is a very small airport - only two gates. There is no restaurant or cafe or anything on either side of security. Your only food option is a vending machine with chips and candy. Security moved VERY slowly but the TSA folks did do a very thorough job, which I appreciated.

Easy access to the airport. Free parking and much easier to cross the border via automobile and then fly domestically. Nice and clean airport.
Scott M — Google review
I’ve traveled through countless airports, but I’ve never written a review, until now. This was by far the easiest and most efficient airport experience I’ve ever had. Flying in on Delta, I got off the plane and within just 200 feet of leaving the gate, I was at the rental car counter where I was promptly assisted. To top it off, my rental car was parked merely 200 feet away. Incredibly, from the moment your plane’s wheels touch down and you enter the gate area, you could be driving away in your car within five minutes. The speed and seamlessness of the process are truly remarkable.

Love this airport. Whether it's picking up or dropping off our clients who need to get to or from Canada, or if I'm headed to a U.S. destination, Chippewa Airport is super convenient. Clyde's across the street is also a must-try for lunch if you have the time!
Stephen F — Google review
On the positive side, the airport is small, clean, and the "street side" bathrooms (i.e. pre-TSA screening) are really clean. On the other hand, there's one gate and if two flights are overlapping, that creates a delay, as it did for us, and the post-security waiting area isn't set up to accommodate more than one flight, and there's no bathrooms. So, we spent like an hour standing in the overheated waiting area, no water, no bathrooms, no seats. Speaking of security, the TSA team seems wildly overzealous, maybe due to boredom, going through our checked luggage and leaving one of those little cards, and carefully scrutinizing each and every fudge bar - though they were respectful, careful, and professional, which is appreciated, and yes, I'm glad they are keeping us safe. Maybe just a bit of recalibration here, mixing "enthusiasm" and "mission" with "assessing passengers" like the 70 year old lady with a cane and fudge for the grandkids - just a suggestion. Bottom line, there is a disconnect between what the airport wants to be and what it is, with a teeny post-security waiting area that isn't really equipped to handle - well, people. If you guys could fix this, it would be a much, much better experience.
William M — Google review
Great airport!! It was very easy to park there and the process was fast. The gate didn't open until 45 minutes before the plane boarded. No need to get there early. Quick and Easy. Thanks!
James E — Google review
People behind the counter are NOT well experienced in using the delta system. Their small third-party team are not very considerate of people and lack both empathy and sympathy for the customers. Will never fly there again. Also note, no uber or lyft there!

Mackinac Island Airport (MCD)

State park
Mackinac Island Airport (MCD) is a seasonal airport located on the motor-free Mackinac Island. The absence of cars and electric scooters creates a peaceful and serene environment for exploration. The airport operates seasonally, with closure from October to spring. Visitors can enjoy an interesting approach and helpful terminal personnel who offer insights into the island's history. While there is no fuel on site, visitors can observe various aircraft on the ramp and witness takeoffs and landings up close.
Small and unique airport. Worth stopping to see if you are on the island and have a few extra minutes for the detour. There's also a road you can ride down at the end of the runway and watch the planes take off and land.

great airport to stop at and see some of the island if you are just flying around. Stands for Helicopters and fixed wings. Disclaimer: There is no Jet fuel available

Nice seasonal airport. Check NOTAMs. Winds may make final a bit unpredictable. Interesting approach. Terminal personnel very helpful with offering the history of the island and the airport. The airport is not open all year and shuts down in October until into the Spring. A carriage can pick up passengers to visit the town Walking to the town is a bit much but certainly not too difficult. A takeoff toward the west means a scenic look at the Mackinac bridge. No fuel on site.

This was a really cool FBO. I was impressed by the hospitality I received from the CSR. She gave me a wonderful tour, and I learned a lot about the town of Gaylord, MI. Much love from Dayton, Ohio!!

I am here once a month, every first Wednesday with the exception of the COVID-19 outbreak which could not be helped. This is where I get to meet other veterans for coffee with Veterans and the wonderful ladies that to Quilts Of Valor. This month I got a special treat. I was allowed out on the tarmac with one of the fire brigade to get some special photos of one of the helicopters so that I could send them to my cousin in California because he is also a prayer service member. I cannot say enough about this airport and the staff

Pellston Regional Airport, located near Mackinaw City, is a small regional airport offering limited Delta Air Lines flights. Despite its size, the airport provides convenient services such as car rentals and shuttle arrangements to and from Mackinaw City. The airport boasts a unique ambiance resembling an old hunting lodge with game trophies on the walls and comfortable seating areas. Visitors can enjoy the excellent restaurant, friendly staff, clean facilities, and free high-speed internet access.
Great little airport, easy in and out. The only drawbacks are the limited flights and cost. Free parking.

The airport is newly remodeled and in descent overall condition. There is one restaurant that opens when the Delta flight is boarding so….not sure about it. Parking is easy and free for short term. There is an upstairs worth checking out if you have time. TSA line used to be quick but they changed it and now it’s crazy slow.

Very small regional airport that’s near to Mackinaw City if you’re planning to take the flight! If you don't reserve your flights early, they will cost a lot because it is quite tiny and only Delta Air Lines flights will be offered. You can arrange for a shuttle to pick you up at the airport and return you there from Mackinaw City.

Sault Ste. Marie Airport

International airport
Airport
Sault Ste. Marie Airport, located just a 20-minute drive from downtown, is a small and relatively quiet airport that primarily serves daily flights from Toronto through Air Canada and Porter Airlines. While the airport is small and has limited staff and amenities, it does offer rental services from companies like Enterprise Rent-A-Car and Budget, although reservations are recommended. Additionally, local taxi services are available based on availability, as there is no public transport directly from the airport to the city.
This airport provides services to the fullest extent and they are wonderful people with a high sense of humanity. I am a person residing in the United Arab Emirates. I won with them through my subscription to their channel and now they are working with all their effort to deliver any person around the world his item or gift. This means that they are serious about work. I hope to come to you from Dubai and meet the owner of this place and this wonderful idea. I wish you all continued progress.
Anas Z — Google review
FYI: bring cash with you if you’re thirsty. Once you pass through security you will be SOL if you didn’t bring at least $4 to purchase water from a vending machine. These machines must be from the 1900s because they only accept cash. And don’t count on any ATMs or water fountains either. You will be parched and trapped in a glass box until your plane departs with only your tears to quench your thirst.
Ashley M — Google review
No access to a water fountain once through security. Vending machines to purchase water don’t work either. Passengers who need to take medication or simply need to have access to water is a basic necessity. Staff are all super friendly and courteous. But this needs to be addressed.
Sheila K — Google review
Nice small local airport. Very calm. However, parking system is antiquated and there doesn’t seem to be anyone willing to take responsibility when it doesn’t work. Security refused to come out when called for help, as directed on sign, literally ran away from us, then hid in back room and refused to take cash payment until a line up of people formed demanding it. Gave us each an old fashioned handwritten paper receipt for $2 from a carbon paper book. Ridiculous. Took me three tries and 40 minutes to exit between chasing security and lining up repeatedly. EDIT: my credit card was also charged, in the end, so I paid twice.
Pamela M — Google review
We had a brief fuel and customs stop here. Fuel service was quick with a minor hiccup in billing but it was easily figured out. Didn’t use the terminal but the small FBO has Keurig coffee and water. A small lounge with a number of movies and tv series available on dvd.

Sault ste marie was functional. It has only one line that leads to the secure area. If two flights are leaving at similar times, the lineup gets long. The staff we encountered were professional without too much small talk.
