Museum of Belize

Museum
Nestled in the vibrant Fort George District, the Museum of Belize is a captivating destination that offers visitors an insightful glimpse into the rich tapestry of Belize's history. Housed in a former 19th-century prison, this modern museum showcases an impressive array of exhibits that span from ancient Mayan artifacts—such as pottery and jewelry—to elements reflecting the country's colonial past. One particularly enlightening display focuses on slavery, providing a unique perspective that contrasts with typical narratives found in the United States.
(Translated by Google) The Museum of Belize, housed in a former 19th-century prison, houses artifacts from the Mayan civilization, including pottery, jewelry, and sculpture, as well as artifacts related to Belize's colonial past. The museum also boasts a collection of postage stamps and works by local artists. (Original) Museum of Belize mieści się w budynku dawnego, XIX- wiecznego więzienia.
Teo T — Google review
Note: Google Map location is off, museum is located next to Belize Central Bank 400' further north along street. Great small museum within walking distance from cruise dock. Slavery display was enlightening supplement to my USA perspective - 400 years, whole country one big set of plantations harvesting wood, escaped slave towns, social hierarchy. Also Mayan display with artifact, local art display and insect collection. And nice clean restrooms! Small ($7) admission fee.
Philip H — Google review
(Translated by Google) A small museum in a former prison building, containing Mayan artifacts (few and not particularly impressive) and pictures and information panels about slavery (very moving and, although well-known, still shocking to see how people were transported and traded like chickens today). The museum is certainly not a must-see, but perhaps the only real highlight in Belize City.

St John Anglican Cathedral

Cathedral
Museums
St John Anglican Cathedral, constructed from 1812 to 1820, is a historic landmark in Belize City. It holds the distinction of being the country's oldest cemetery and was built during a turbulent period of colonial competition. Despite its modest exterior, this small Anglican church is notable as the only location outside of England where British monarchs were crowned.
This a beautiful and very historical church built over 200 years ago, it's one over the only churches outside on England that saw the coronation of a monarch!.. this church was built from bricks from England that were used as the ballast for ships used by mahogany traders and when the ships were loaded the bricks were left behind. The church was built over the years from those bricks! It is one of the only old buildings built from bricks (all the other original colonial homes were made from the mahogany that grows everywhere in the area at that time and are still standing strong).
David W — Google review
What a beautiful church! It's small but the history of the church is amazing and the age of the church wow! It's like stepping into a time machine.
Al S — Google review
I attended my high-school math teacher's funeral service. It was a good turned out.
Amanda G — Google review
Beautiful historic church, over 200 years old. Hand built, many pieces still from the original builders. Almost daily services and daily tours.
Robert M — Google review
Great, historic church with a very friendly staff (thanks, Mrs. J!) and restrooms around the back. Go on, sit down, and be in the presence for a while.
Zachary W — Google review
Excellent historical church. Couldn't work out if the locals liked or disliked us Brits!😀
Paul S — Google review
This is a historical landmark that is over 200 years old. It is the first Church built in Belize I believe (although it is a cathedral), and I enjoy it as a place of worship as an Anglican. The times for mass are posted in front of the structure itself, and a picture of this tablet with times is on their Facebook page.
Hughette S — Google review
Came here on a tour bus cruise. Very nice cathedral

The Baron Bliss Lighthouse, a striking red and white concrete structure standing at 15 meters tall, is a prominent landmark in Belize City's historic downtown district. This architectural gem was built in 1885 as a memorial to Baron Bliss, with his granite tomb located nearby. The area also boasts other historical sites such as the Museum of Belize and St. John's Cathedral.
Great place for pictures as it is right by the water the view is amazing it’s amazing for susnset or sunrise picture those times would be the best shots ,the BELIZE sign is right next to it !!! So double amazing plus it’s completely free
Julia P — Google review
Greta little spot next to the water. The Belize sign is right next to the lighthouse, so it's a 2 for one visit. GARY a local was walking around and was a great add. Shops next to the lighthouse to grab a great snack or spot to relax.
Michelle R — Google review
Beautiful warm walk. Seen people from the cruise just jump in the water by the tower. Lol I love this area. The Treehouse Hotel/restaurant was the best
TheHomieChris — Google review
Well, a lighthouse. Located in a pretty nice district. Many locals here, but it's safe, many police officers here. It's obviously near the port. A lot of cafes nearby. Great for pictures, you can call it a landmark for sure. Nice view on the sea!
Алексей Ш — Google review
It’s a fairly basic but historical landmark. There’s not much surrounding it and it’s a shame there’s no signage to explain the history or significance either (so read up beforehand), but it’s worth checking out, even if only to admire the wonderful unobstructed views of the ocean.
Steve B — Google review
Interesting from the standpoint of it's the only lighthouse at Belize City. Very different from a lot of the lighthouses you see of the east coast of the United States. Very nice of you looking out into the Caribbean Sea.
Kirk J — Google review
Right next to the lighthouse you can sit and witness pretty sunsets.
Muris D — Google review
A very interesting site to visit in Belize City. Lighthouses are situated in strategic points and this one is not an exception. From the lighthouse you can appreciate a wonderful and special view of the city. If you are in Radisson or in the Ramada hotel, it’s a short walk enjoying the wind and the sea.

Old Belize, located in Belize City, is a must-visit attraction that offers a comprehensive experience of the country's history and culture. The Old Belize Exhibit takes visitors on a journey through various defining periods of Belize's past with authentic relics and captivating displays. It also features the only beach in Belize City, the Old Belize Marina, a full-service restaurant, conference facilities, and banquet hall.
Very very nice atmosphere and they had a great DJ. The water was cold but that was to be expected since it had rain 30mins prior to us coming. The water is deep so don’t underestimate it. If you do, There are lifeguards on duty. We didn’t eat. But we did enjoy the vibes and the views.
Semone B — Google review
This place was amazing! I had never been before and this was a first. They have a huge water playscape in the 8ft deep pool, a giant water slide, sand volleyball, live music, a swing to jump off into the water and photo opportunities. I can't wait to come back here and visit again!
Danielle M — Google review
We had a great time here when we were on our cruise. Food was delicious and the fun water park on the beach was amazing! We have teenagers and they enjoyed it all. They have a food shack and a bar on the beach. Pricing was very fair.
Kristen K — Google review
Beautiful place. So much fun. Decent food. Good drinks. Bring a life jacket if you can’t swim
Diamond R — Google review
Not that bad. They’ve got sand (which was really just a weird muddy sand combination) and lots of mosquitoes, so come with your bug spray. As for the food, there is some sort of variety. It’s actually pretty good, but the prices for both food and drink are marked up (which is expected since no outside foods are allowed). Be sure ti bring your own water, because if you don’t then expect to buy a bottle of water that normally costs $1.50 for $4.00. Overall cute place, just not my personal favorite.
Gabriela Y — Google review
A quick stop at the Old Belize Museum after lunch and I was glad that I made the visit. An excellent overview of life in Belize from the Mayans to early colonial days. From logging to fishing, the Garufina and early commerce you can see Belize in a nutshell. Stopped by the giftshop and found the t-shirt I wanted: You better Belize it!!!!
Dr. O — Google review
There was a lot to see in Belize. Our tour guide, Dylan, was really void, helpful, and informative. The place is rich in history.
Jerome B — Google review
A great place to spend the day with family. The restrooms are clean. They offer a variety of food and beverage options. The DJ took requests and spun some good tracks. The water was perfect and the place wasn't crowded so this allowed us to go on the slide and obstacles multiple times.

Sights & Landmarks
Government House, a historical museum located in Belize City, was built in 1812 and was formerly the residence of governors. Renamed as the House of Culture in 1998, this colonial palace is an architectural blend of Caribbean vernacular style with English influences by renowned British architect Sir Christopher Wren. Notably, it hosted Belize's first flag hoisting as an independent nation.
Great conference room that has all the amenities on hand to conduct a great training, workshop, meeting or any other social event. It is located in front of the warm gorgeous Caribbean sea. Has ample parking space and is conveniently located in the heart of Belize City.
GUIDO W — Google review
It’s hard to rate a place that isn’t open when it says it’s supposed to be. It was recommended by an artist we know but it was closed. Wast of time coming to this place.
Hawi J — Google review
This museum used to be the home of the governor. We took a tour of the inside to see the architecture and artwork; walked around the grounds before we left. Tour guide was quite knowledgeable.
William G — Google review
First time I've been to Government House since the renovation and renamed House of Culture for the Brukdown Bram event last night! I love the permanent stage that was built in the yard by the sea. The space had potential to host major concerts like the recent International Food and Music Festival.
Curt S — Google review
Very nice place to host a small event. It's seafront location allows for a very cool ambiance.
Gale O — Google review
When were there in 2016 when we took the freedom Cruise you are not able to go in but enjoy the breeze in the back. We also did a true of the orphanage which part of proceeds went to it.

The Swing Bridge

Mentioned on
+3 other lists
The Swing Bridge in Belize City is a historic landmark that connects the north and south faces of the city. It is known as the only manually operated swing bridge left in the Americas, with a rich history dating back to its construction in Liverpool. The bridge stands as a pivotal point in the city center, symbolizing a boundary between different parts of town. Visitors can immerse themselves in local culture by observing traditional fishing boats and connecting with the native aura while taking in views of this celebrated bridge.
It's just a bridge lol. There’s nothing special about it. You just use it to cross over the river. There is no tourist element to it.
Daviyion J — Google review
The hub and centre of activity in the city, it’s surprising that this rusty bridge holds up under the constant traffic and people passing over! It’s a good spot for admiring the boats and there’s plenty of restaurants immediately nearby. Not sure I’d classify it as a landmark or attraction, merely a functional bit of infrastructure in a bustling area.
Steve B — Google review
It’s a bridge. Rusty and old but necessary to enter the downtown area. Water underneath doesn’t look healthy. Lots of boat traffic and near bus stop and city hall. Not much else to see here. Found this little taco spot a few blocks away. Six mini tacos for $2 Belize. Didn’t get sick, so consider them a success. 4-stars for the taco place.
Chad S — Google review
A means to cross the creek and need of major repairs or replacement. Allows one to get a picture of the harbour or cruise ship docked out from shore.
Darrel B — Google review
The bridge has been an icon of Belize City town center. It looks rustic and also rusty. It has become the a landmark and boundary between the east and west sides of the town.
John Y — Google review
The Swing Bridge in Belize City offers some pretty nice views of the boats in the harbor. The area is dirty and on days when a cruise ship is docked, there are several locals trying to sell you something. It's a short, pretty safe walk from the cruise terminal.
Greg D — Google review
The famous swing bridge is the only remaining manual swing bridge in the world. If you're in the area feel free to take pictures of the harbor. This bridge might soon be replaced.
Amircito G — Google review
May not be here long..last of it's kind they say..Dirty area..people always trying to peddle their goods to you if there is a cruise ship docked trying to get the tourists I guess..interesting to say the least!

Belize Tourism Board

Mentioned on
3 lists
Tourist information center
The Belize Tourism Board (BTB) plays a crucial role in ensuring that visitors have a safe and enjoyable experience while exploring the beautiful country of Belize. For cruise passengers, the tourism village serves as the primary port of entry, offering an array of souvenirs, beverages, and duty-free items. However, it's important to venture beyond this area to truly immerse yourself in authentic Belizean culture. Travelers are encouraged to book their excursions through BTB for added safety and security.
My sister and I went here to ask for a Belizean Traveller package since she was heading to Europe and the staff was super nice and very accommodating! We waited a bit and in no time were attended to! We were definitely more motivated to take Belizean stuff to represent on European territory.
Phaedra M — Google review
Birds Isle Restaurant..great food but horrible service!!!! We were only on the island from a cruise and only had a few hrs. Our waitress was so freaking slow..we were there when they opened. 8 tables had their food before us. She brought our appetizer out after we were almost done with our meal. Almost an hour before we got our food
Debbie F — Google review
This is the worst customer service for an establishment that is suppose to be assisting customers and guests! They never answers calls even though it rings. They have become just like other Goverment offices that doesnt care about the people. Definitely not satisfied with their service!
Lucy C — Google review
I have for many a year been a big supporter of the BTB and applauded the job they are doing, however over the last couple of months something has changed with this organization , they no longer respond to email queries and you are totally ignored should you seek guidance on matters like Gold Standard. Many like myself are considering leaving the tourism industry, and not renewing our license simply because we have no idea what is happening, many conflicting reports on requirement's out there, from car hire companies, senior health inspectors, airport officials etc We appear to have lost our way somewhat, and the lack of response to queries would suggest the BTB staff themselves do not know and I have failed to get a response from some very senior people who were always in the past very quick to shed clarity on any matter
Peter G — Google review
The random selection for a second security check is not random at the Philip S.W. Goldson Intl Airport. It is a targeted procedure to separate customers from their valuables. This practice must be addressed and terminated. It is imperative that all visitors feel safe and respected in your country. They don't want to leave there knowing that they have been victimized by airport employees who are representatives of Belize.
One I — Google review
As a tourist that has been traveling to lovely Belize the last eight years, I have to admit it is becoming more and more difficult to oversee and ignore the lack or efficiency, poor technology, lack of professionalism/manners, and basic air conditioning...at the Belize Airport. I will not get into the many lacks that the whole country has on this post out of respect to the government in charge, but an airport is the most basic country amenity available. An international airport into that country always gives me a glimpse on what I might experience. The Belize "International" airport would qualify as one of the worst experiences I have ever had in my 40+ years of experience, 45 country experience. I have probably landed in BZE airport about 20+ times. Not only does the airport have so many flaws, but it looks like everyone just turns a blind eye to everything. Many tourists that are in that line (which was over 2 hours) were saying they would never be back just because of the 8 custom agents trying to efficiently take several hundred PAPER custom forms, sign them, check them off, stamp the passport, fill some more paperwork without ANY COMPUTERS - for each tourist. Or, of course, facial recognition camera. What a waste of everyone's time. But of course, the air conditioning is not available until you get very close to the booths. On my last few times to Belize, the tourists have been very patient, but they always talk about how they will not return. Of course, after waiting 1 or 2 hours or maybe 2.5 hours (like this last trip), almost all the agents we usually encounter are pretty rude or non-professional. I have been to many other smaller, less fortunate countries that welcome tourists with open arms and go out of their way to make the experience a pleasant, efficient experience. I ask myslef, why is that not the case here in Belize? Please invest in this country. Make it a bit more efficient. It will grow so much faster and bring even more growth and wealth for the people. I know this review will not make much difference or any decision on the future of the airport/other areas but I would be doing a huge disservice to my heart by not voicing what I feel...because I care so much about this beautiful country...and I want only the best for the people here and for tourist to fall in love with Belize, like we have.
Dr. G — Google review
I did not go through BTB to book my trip to Belize, and I deeply regret it. I was assaulted by an unlicensed tour guide named Hector Amirk Ramirez (a.k.a. "Amir"). I called BTB to report what happened to me. They referred me to Mr. Blease, who very quickly opened an investigation and came to a resolution to keep tourists safe. I can't thank Mr. Blease enough for his help. For safety and security, I highly recommend booking through BTB. They are very thorough in their vetting process and they truly care about tourists.

Despite its small size, this museum offers a glimpse into the vibrant culture of the Garifuna people. It provides visitors with insights into their music, language, and daily way of life.
Amazing museum in Belize City. Mr. Sebastian Cayatano, a founding member of the National Garifuna Council’s Belize City Branch, is an amazing host with a depth of knowledge of the Garinagu people, Garifuna language and history. Highly recommended if you have the time.

Owner Sebastian Cayetano, a former educator, is proud of his Garifuna heritage and so decided to share it with the people of our country and visitors from abroad. Although small in size, the museum provides us with a glimpse of the rich and vibrant culture of the Garifuna people. Visitors would get an idea about the music, language and daily way of life of this humble but proud group who immigrated to Belize in the early 1800's. The Luba Garifuna Museum is certainly a place to visit .

Not much here. A small cement (no grass) plaza with a decent ice cream stand. Situated by the Swing Bridge (does not swing open nowadays :( Also next to the DigiNet SIM/internet Data office where you can buy a SIM or top off your credit, and a major Bank.

For the most part, this is a pleasant park. It has a view to the Supreme Court, a "Belize" frame for photos, a historic statue, and a kiosk.

Bird's Isle Restaurant, also known as Island by the locals, is a well-established dining spot located on a small islet to the south of downtown Belize City. The restaurant offers a casual dining experience in a beautiful outdoor setting with indoor seating and a waterfront deck. It is renowned for its excellent waterfront location and spacious yard where guests can enjoy watching fish and birds glide by.
Lovely local spot! Food is spectacular, service is wonderful, music/vibe is cozy, beer is cold. Go for sunset if possible, the views are insane. Saturday is BBQ day, we got lucky with our chosen day! Nice walk over here from the city core and a short 5 minute taxi ride back. Ask your server to call a taxi for you, you can sip a brew whike vibing while you wait. Taxi man checks in with the hosts who will retrieve you. Its a nice system and aligns with the slow happy island vibe here.
Crystal W — Google review
We visited Bird’s Isle on the recommendation of the manager of our hotel. It was a mixed bag experience…. The food was delicious, we had the shrimp ceviche, lobster tail and grilled red snapper. The entrees were served with side of red beans and rice, side salad, scrambled eggs and French fries. The ceviche was on point. It took a bit of time to arrive, but was super fresh, obviously made to order! Perhaps a bit light on the shrimp, but great flavor. The chips were what we usually get in the area, which to us always seem a bit stale. The entrees of lobster and red snapper were both very good. Decent sized lobster and red snapper for the area. All sides were good, the fries were served piping hot (perfect) and no hint of a fryer used for different foods (the fried fish must have its own fryer! The ranch dressing and tartar sauce seemed homemade, and were both good. The drink menu is CRAZY, in a good way. One-half of the entire menu! Something for everyone included. Beer, wine, frozen drink, speciality cocktails, etc. We tried the Bahama Mama and the Yellow Bird. Served in huge glasses, potent, and sweet… very sweet, lots of fruit juices used. The bad stuff… service was slow. And the place was pretty empty. A lot of the physical premises is in need of repair. We ordered a can of sparkling water, and the top of the can was filthy. That’s a Belizean thing, like when they serve beers wrapped with napkins wrapped around the top, it’s to clean the top before drinking. The top of the bottle of hot sauce on the table was disgusting, obviously not cleaned in some time. Excess hot sauce and crust all over the top and lid. Finally, expensive for what you get. An OK experience, but we probably won’t go back, lots of other restaurants in the area.

Very nice restaurant , well hidden! Love the ceviche. Jazmin was very attentive and kind!

Honestly, it's one of the best restaurants in Belize! I have dined here 4 times already since I've been here almost every day. Variety of dishes to try from. Fresh juices and very friendly staff. Definitely try the pork dishes, the flavors are out of this world, with perfect seasoning and portions. Aside from the food and service, the views and the atmosphere are second to none, especially when you want to relax by the beach and enjoy your meal!

The fried chicken was hot and flavorful.. The water views were perfect.

This restaurant came highly recommended by our shuttle driver and locals we spoke to. I originally found it mentioned in a blog when researching the island and decided to go there on our first day. Despite closing soon after we arrived, the staff was gracious enough to let us sit and order whatever we wanted and let us take our time. We ordered the fish fingers and the shrimp. I cannot recommend the fish fingers enough! It was some of the best food we had the entire week. Pictures below for portion sizes and reference!
Justina R — Google review
The spot was recommended by a local cab driver. The food was not bad at all. Some items were better than others and some ppl have different opinion. I enjoyed my lobster with the cooked veggies and onions. I was able to taste the fish which i thought was good as well. The mash potatoe was average nothing sp3cial. Seems like everyone in Belize cooks Shrimp really well and this spot was no exception. The beer was Warm! Didnt like that. They ran out of rice and beans which really made our combos just weird I do recommend going food wasnt bad and priced decent.

It was my first time visiting Bird’s Isle Restaurant and I was in Awe! It’s a friendly environment where you can have lunch with family, friends or yourself. The staff are great, you have an amazing seafront view. The food is freshly made and very DELICIOUS. Anytime in Belize City and want some delicious food, I recommend you go to Bird’s Isle Restaurant.

The Wet Lizard is in the Port of Belize City, closer to terminal 4. They use a great them going and have some great deals on the local beer ($3 a bottle). Ceviche is FABULOUS and was fresh, sweet, and delicious. Great spot to hangout before heading back to your ship. Service was not great, that was my only issue with the place.

I stopped in for a couple of beers and bought a t shirt. Nice folks, cute place, lots of people eating, but I didn’t, not ready for food. Nice cold local beer, nice experience.

This was our favorite food on our vacation, it was so delicious!! Our waitress was sweet, helpful, and made great drinks. We hope to visit again one day. Thank you Wet Lizard!

Stopped at the Wet Lizard after our excursions and before returning to our ship. First time in this port and it is so.cute and lively with a fun vibe. We wanted a quick local snack and ordered Belikin, the local beer, conch ceviche, jerk pork tacos and rice and beans. The servers were nice and friendly. Its open air right in the midst of the terminals in port. The beers were ice cold. The conch ceviche small.portion was massive. Fresh and flavorful and served with fresh authentic tortilla chips and loaded with conch. The jerk pork tacos were excellent. Tender flavorful pork with a nice sauce and served with a side of chips and Pico. My husband really liked the beans and rice. They were my least favorite item though really not bad. We enjoyed sitting at the bar on the water in the open air with lively music playing. Prices seemed reasonable as well. Perfect end to our day in Belize City!

I was really looking forward to trying the whole fried snapper that everyone talks about, but this visit was a major letdown. Our server told us that anything we ordered would take about 30 minutes — which was fine — but after waiting, my friends’ food came out and I was told they had no more snapper left, except for the one they gave to someone else at my table. It was frustrating to wait that long just to find out they were out of what I ordered, especially since no one came to tell me sooner so I could choose something else. The food my friends received looked decent, but the service and communication were really poor. If you’re visiting, double-check availability before you order — especially for the snapper.

My second visit to Belize and the wet lizard 🦎 is the place to enjoy great food and drinks 🍹! I’m most definitely coming back!
Melvin A — Google review
Ordered 3 items (belizean metal pies, small ceviche, beans and rice) & waited and hour for the rest of the meal to show up. Only the meat pies showed up. Eventually asked for the check and was told "meat pies came out first because it's on the appetizer menu" Ceviche was also in the appetizer section. Never got the ceviche, or beans & rice.

Located in Belize City, Celebrity Restaurant & Bar is a popular dining spot known for its Caribbean and South American cuisine. With a prime location offering stunning views of the harbor, it has been described as one of the most romantic restaurants in Belize.
Last night, I had a delightful dinner at Celebrity Restaurant with my cousin. It had been a while since my last visit, and I was pleasantly surprised by the addition of the bar section with a fantastic wine selection. The food was absolutely delicious-every bite showcased the restaurant's commitment to quality and flavor. My cousin and I truly enjoyed the evening, filled with great conversation and amazing food. Thank you to the team at Celebrity Restaurant for making our night so special! I highly recommend a visit for anyone seeking a memorable dining experience.

STAY AWAY.............. you've been warned. Alex and Eli are great, however the food is PHENOMENAL. The ONLY place we ate at more than once in a week. I want to take the chef home with us. The girls at the bar are kind and even let me take the cigar lighter back and use while I stay here.

My brother and I had a fantastic dinner here when we were in town. The staff were friendly, helpful, and engaging. The food was excellent, with a nice presentation. We ate in the bar, which was quiet and cool. Perfect after a hot Caribbean day.

This place was so pretty and good. I ordered the beef curry and it did not disappoint. The chocolate cake was good as well but would have been better without the fruit filling. Definitely recommend this place if you come to the city.

Fantastic restaurant! I visited for lunch one weekend and it was practically empty to begin with but still managed to have a nice atmosphere with the music. The staff were all amazing and really welcoming and this didn’t change once it started getting busier. The menu is large with plenty of variety and the same is true for the drinks and cocktails. I opted for the burger which was served in good time. The bun was perhaps too big for the size of the patty but it was cooked well and very tasty. The portion of fries was a good size and the coleslaw was the creamiest and best I’ve ever tasted! There’s a number of TVs throughout the restaurant and the seating at the bar is nice if you’re only wanting a drink. I’d have returned if I’d have been in the city longer and it’s a great place especially if you’re celebrating an event.

Very mediocre food. Large menu selection. Service was good, but do yourself a favor and go somewhere more local.

Man, this place was great! I walked here from the water ferry terminal just to find somewhere to eat on a Sunday and it wasn't far away. One of the terminal workers suggested the location. I went inside and was immediately met with service. Everyone was pleasant including my waiter (I didn't get his name). The food was nice, hot and tasty! This is a can't miss spot! Come eat here!

Paid $60 for what was supposed to be an 18oz steak, med rare. What a misSteak! Lets just say the pictures are very misleading. $54 for the smallest piece of fish I've ever seen. Then another ridiculous price for salty seafood soup. The service was great. But the owner needs to stop ripping people off. I'd be embarrassed for a tourist to eat there. A shame because the building is beautiful, and like I said, the service is good. We spent over $600 on some really bad cuisine. Very, very disappointed. I wouldn't recommend this place and I'm noticing more and more over priced, poor quality food being served in more and more restaurants. Short cuts due to a very poorly run country. It'll only get worse.

Guests rave about the generous portions and mouthwatering dishes, such as the Shrimp Curry and Buffalo Chicken wrap, which are not only flavorful but also visually appealing.
Highlight of Belize City! Food is insanely delicious and massive portions. Service is wonderful. The views are incredible. I popped up from the hotel before for sunrise both mornings, it is gorgeous. Returned for breakfast one day: healthy light breakfast with cold pressed juice. A large hearty supper after a full day excursion and with sunset views. The Shrimp Curry was insane and so large. My mates Buffalo Chicken wrap was the largest I've ever seen and he raved about the spices/flavours. Nice cocktail menu. I wish I got his name, but shout out to the morning server. Gentleman, dark skinned, massive smile. Was the first one in for setting up on Sunday, March 16th. The epitome of hospitality right here- what a beautiful soul. He made my morning, even more than the perfect sunrise that we enjoyed together. The gardens and koi fish ponds are so soothing. This restaurant/rooftop is perfect!

Took my daughter out for Father/Daughter date. Didn't get anything too fancy - sausage and burgers. Rating 4 only because those are standard menu options most places. The food was great. Definitely more than your normal portion size so the prices are worth the meal. The restaurant is beautiful and definitely uniquely designed. Not just a room with tables and chairs and some decorations. It's beautiful. Options to dine outside or inside in the AC. A perfect spot for date night if your willing to spend a little bit more compared to some of the more established go-to places. Staff was friendly and courteous.

An up-to-date restaurant above Golden Bay Hotel the foold and service were on point. The decor is very upscale but I found the price reasonable in Belize dollars. The Server was very friendly and helpful. I had the spicy beef topsmfor an appetizer and grilled porkchops for dinner both of which were very tasty. The cheesecake was a bit sweet for me but it was good as well.

We stayed in the hotel on our last night before we headed home to California. We had blueberry orange mocktail and some beers at the bar and enjoyed a nice friendly chat w it h the bartender, Noel. Went out for a nice walk and then came back for dinner and the sunset. Had great conversations with Noel and Haldane, learning creole and the Mayan dishes. Had the shrimp pasta and the chicken hot plate with rice; both were good, nice flavors, big servings, and nice presentation. I had a brownie with ice cream for dessert which was not really for my taste, it was fine though and I ate maybe half. The entire crew asked if I wanted something else, they noticed I didn’t eat it all, I said it was fine, everything was good. The chef came out and asked if I wanted something else, then Noel took it off our bill. Completely attentive and genuine; they wanted to be sure we were absolutely happy. Excellent service. We encountered a lot of very kind humans here I Belize and we struck gold with the crew at Vino Tinto, all of them are just kind, happy people who either really love their jobs or are really good at showing that they do! Belize knows hospitality. We’ll make this a regular stop when we return. Highly recommend.

The extensive menu offers over 200 items, including fresh seafood dishes like lobster in black bean sauce and Singaporean-style chow mein. The restaurant has been a beloved dining spot since the 1970s, and it's famous for its quick service and mouthwatering preparations.
This is my first time in Belize, and this is the first place I've eaten at. I ordered the combination plate. It was very good! I like the environment in the restaurant also! The waitress was very helpful and patient with me. I really appreciated that. The juice she recommended was good, too! Guapa, I think the name of it is...

The food was fine but not great. Don't be fooled by the prices. From what I could tell, the large plates 🍽️ are pretty much the same portion as the small plates, so just pay less and get the small. I got tricked 🪄 because the waitress didn't properly answer my question about the difference between the sizes. We did come here two times though because it was close to our hotel 🏨

Food is not good. Server was polite and helpful. The shrimp chow mein my wife had was edible but "the worst Chinese I've ever had" my sweet and sour chicken was just chicken strips and fries? Chicken had a weird flavor, maybe some seasoning I'm not used to but tasted rubbery or some flavor I've never tasted before but not great. Wouldn't eat here again especially for over 50$ for two plates

Horrible wait time for food. 1 chicken burger. I called a few minutes after 11am for an order of chicken burger with no fries. This is because I would need it at 11:30 to go feed my child at school. I was on the bus when I called so I reached at the restaurant around 11:15 and I sat outside to wait for my order. 11:25 came and it was taking long for my order to come out so I called the number again and asked if the order was ready. The person I spoke to asked if it was through the app or by phone...I told her I just called about 20 mins ago...she says okay...about 2 more mins wait (that was a lie). I said okay thanks. 11:35 came and I called again and asked if the order was ready. She said not yet. 5 mins later I decided to call again to cancel the order cause it was taking too long and I can'twait any longer. Imagine waiting 40 mins for 1 chicken burger. I left and went to Lee Chee and bought a chicken burger and a fried chicken with 8 mins to 10 mins wait time. They probably thought I wanted it for 12pm..which I didn't...but even if I did...It shouldn't take almost a whole hour to make 1 chicken burger. It's not fried chicken. I am never buying and eating from here ever again. I ordered from them despite all the bad reviews they've been getting these past months. I said let me give them the benefit of doubt. Big mistake and time wasted.

24/3/25 Tldr : Hair in food Wait staff confronted us with attitude Ps. Roast pork burger was disappointing I entered the restaurant with my family, and everyone had ordered different dishes so we could swap and share. The experience was going well until my neice discovered a hair in the food she was already chewing. She immediately became visibly upset and tearful. She hurried to the bathroom and regurgitated the food there. After asking what happened and determining the hair was not hers, we calmly and quietly waved over the serving staff and told them what had happened. Unfortunately, we were greeted with an uncooperative attitude and side eyes from the staff. They then outright said, "The child must not have enjoyed her food, and therefore we didn't want to pay, so we made up the story about the hair." It was too late to show them the hair when they came since the child had flushed the toilet because she didn't want to vomit the food right at the dining table. We didn't make a big fus about the incident and paid for the food and then left. It's unfortunate that I had to write this review, which I wouldn't have, if even a single word of apology was said.

If you're ever in Belize and looking for a delightful dining experience, make sure to stop by Anna's Lunch Box. I recently indulged in three scrumptious plates of rice and beans paired with tender stew chicken, all while enjoying the calming ambiance of the place. The staff were incredibly friendly, making my visit even more enjoyable. Although there was a slight hiccup with my change due to my preoccupation with time, the cashier handled it gracefully without any fuss.
Food was great and awesome customer service :-) 2 min walk away from cruise port

Attached is a pic of the meal and the price. There were no prices to be seen in the restaurant. I was charged 75bzd for 1 beer and the meal. This was the most expensive meal I had in Belize city by far. Go across the street to the shopping mall and go to the 4th floor. You'll pay less than half price. The staff were nice to me but I can't justify the cost. I paid less for my airport fish and chips in North America. Edit: lots of people have been over charged. Read the reviews. Stay away, you may likely get ripped off.

Honestly being the best policy the food here is subpar. The beef was tough. My friend had the wings and they were over battered and under-seasoned. The yellow rice was tasteless and orange. The young lady at the counter was pleasant and courteous but I was very disappointed with the food.

I went to Anna's Lunch Box just now and got 3 delicious plates of rice and beans with stew chicken. The staff was amazing and the ambuance was quite relaxing. I made an error. The cashier gave me my change but I did not realize it as I was focused on checking the time so that I'm not late going back to work. I insisted that she did not give me my change. The young lady was polite and did not argue with me and she gave me the change. When I left, I stopped at a local shop and then I realized that she did indeed give me my change to begin with. I raced back over there, return the change and apologized as I made the mistake. Anna's Lunch Box stood by the age old saying that "the customer is always right" even though i made the mistake. Keep on rocking it Anna's Lunch Box. You ladies are amazing :) I whole heartedly recommend Anna's Lunch Box to one and all.

Worst food I've had in Belize and most other places. Overpriced and so bad we didn't even finish our meal. We all ordered the coconut shrimp curry which the waitress recommended to us. Where do I even get started on this review! Well we will start with the bathrooms. The restrooms were very VERY nasty and disgusting. The toilet seat has human feces left on it. The toilet bowl was filled with disgusting green feces. The mirror was smeared with soap! The floor had mud prints all over. The food was decent, but our food took a long time to arrive. When it came, it was cold. The other people there were very loud. Laughing loud and boisterous. The light poles had many pigeons just chirping very loud. We asked for the employees to clothes the windows, but they ignored. Last time I'm going there! They could have done better with there cleanliness. The only positive thing was the decor. It looked luxurious and lavish.

This restaurant is the on-site dining room for the Radisson Fort George hotel. It has a vintage atmosphere: dark polished wood, brass, hardwood floor, and outdoor seating on a veranda that looks out over the sea. There is an extensive beverage and food menu and the prices were quite reasonable. I suggest using the Order Online link in the Google Maps to view the menu as the reviewers' photos are very outdated. We ate dinner here three evenings and would have rated the first two with 4 stars. The last evening was so disappointing, we dropped our rating a star. The first two evenings were a consecutive Wednesday and Thursday. Both times the restaurant was not crowded, the food and drink delicious, and the service slow but adequate. Highlights included the virgin Pina Colada, which my wife said was the best she'd ever had, the Tavern Signature salad, and the cashew-crusted snapper. We returned the following Tuesday evening for our last night in Belize. It was like a different restaurant: it was packed, the service was very slow, and the food mediocre. I had the "Belize Sunday Dinner" (stewed chicken with rice & beans). It was OK, just not as good as every other similar meal we'd had throughout our stay. My wife's "Mayan Garden Salad," however, was truly awful. A plate full of iceberg lettuce topped with a few roasted tomatoes and Kalamata olives, and two asparagus spears that were too tough to chew.

Fish chowder soup was amazing. I ordered the jerky meal and it was good, their mixed cocktails are refreshing.

I don't know if this place is coming back or not but just a heads up at the moment it's gone. It appears they tore the building down...

I had dinner here and it was good. Fish fillets, rice, and beans and a few of the best mojitos I've ever had in my life. The portion was big! I asked for a to go box and the server took my plate and boxed it up for me. Got 2 meals out of that dinner. The service was really good as well. The food was $23 BZ or $11.50 USD. I think the mojitos were $6 USD a piece. Definitely recommend.

We enjoyed this place. It's a very comfortable restaurant in the Radisson, and the servers were friendly and the drinks were great. I would say the food is good but not great. The dinner menu is more traditional than the lunch menu, which is more like bar food. Nothing that was described as spicy was spicy to us, but we are Indian.

Nerie's is a local restaurant in Belize that offers authentic dishes. The place is recommended for those who want to try local cuisine. The location is decent and the menu has a variety of great food options. One visitor tried the fried fish, but found it overcooked and dry, and the rice and beans didn't taste fresh. However, they acknowledged that every place can have an off day.
Had the lunch specials, they were delicious, staff were very warm and welcoming. Nice atmosphere. Came back later and headed upstairs to the lounge, that also had a fantastic atmosphere. The owner was caring and attentive. Great value for your money. Good flavors.

We had a great lunch up on the second floor balcony on a Saturday afternoon. It was our first day in the city and it was the perfect introductory meal. Our server was tremendously helpful and friendly in regard to both the menu and his favorite parts of his adopted country. The menu has a variety of basic dishes for the timid, and more authentic cuisine for the adventurous.
Nick S — Google review
The food here was quite average – nothing bad, but nothing particularly memorable either. The dishes were decent and filling, but lacked any standout flavors that would make you want to come back just for the food. What really improves the experience is the staff: very friendly, polite, and welcoming, which creates a pleasant atmosphere. The prices are relatively reasonable for what you get, making it a fair choice if you’re looking for a simple, budget-friendly meal. Overall, this is not the place to expect a culinary highlight, but it works well for a casual lunch or dinner without high expectations.
Urban U — Google review
The food was great while the price is very affordable. They are so friendly. This is one of the best places I visited in this country.

My driver suggested this place and it was awesome! Great service, Great staff and of course the food was so good!! I went everyday during my visit. Definitely will visit there again.

Great local belizean food and an over abundance of food. Had to take almost half back to the bungalow! Great problem to have and the prices were reasonable also! And Great friendly and attentive service! Will be back!

Went to this restaurant after getting a recommendation from staff at the Belize Museum down the street. It turned out to be the highlight of our brief stay on Belize as it was good, inexpensive, local food. We were the only tourists there and we tried to pay the check amount in US dollars and they quickly corrected us, returning half of the cash we gave them! It's less than a 10 minute walk from the dock where cruise passengers arrive.

I got the chermole. It was very flavorful but didn't have anything but chicken in it. I was hoping for some veg. My partner got the cow's foot soup and said it was delicious. It looked good and had a big piece of meat in it. Service was very friendly and accommodating. Restaurant was clean and bathroom was well stocked. Nice decor.

John Greif II Airport

Domestic airport
Airport
John Greif II Airport is a small but convenient airport located just about 4 miles south of San Pedro Town in Ambergris Caye, Belize. It offers easy access to the town, with a short 15-minute boat ride. The airport provides good and fast service, along with air conditioning for comfort. This makes it an ideal starting point for various activities such as fishing expeditions and diving trips offered by Pro Dive Center and other operators in the area.
Fantastic local airport on Ambergris Caye! Easy to get to, clean with available restrooms, air conditioning, but limited seating. There are more seats upstairs, but you'll need to climb those stairs. It does get crowded quickly, but they're very efficient and on time with checking in and boarding. Once you check in you'll be given your boarding pass, which is basically a color specific placard, and that's how you'll board. By color! Kinda cool process and it works! Large screens and a personal airport associate will guide you easily thru that. A nice unique aquarium with some cool local art and high ceilings with nice light make your waiting to board much easier. An impressive local airport! Nice job!

John Greif II Airport, is the San Pedro Airport that services flights in and out of Ambergris Caye, in Belize. If you’re flying here from an international hub, you would have to fly into Belize City and then take the 15 minute flight to San Pedro. There are two carriers that dominant this puddle jumping route. I chose Tropic Air both ways, because they more favorable comments on the internet. This was one of the best decisions I made. Both ways, the service on the ground and in the air, was superb. I was able to sit in the co-pilot seat, on both trips, to get a close up look of the skill, diligence, safety and professionalism of the pilots. The rides were smooth. And the views? Wow, what an experience. Nothing short of being unforgettable, memorable and spectacular.
Peter M — Google review
Better than average very small airport serving San Pedro. It does get crowded when tourists are leaving/arriving usually late morning for departures and late afternoon for arrivals. Clean, nice facility. Great staff.
Marc S — Google review
“Island convenience at its best! The airport is located right in the heart of town, with super friendly staff and a stress-free vibe. There are only 2 gates, but plenty of seating both downstairs and upstairs. Bonus: there’s a huge aquarium that makes the wait surprisingly relaxing.

We flew Maya Island Air. Things to know: When flying to the island, if you arrive early and there is room, they will place you on an earlier flight. When leaving, if flying domestic you can drop off your bags earlier but they don’t check you in until 1 hr for domestic flights or 3 hrs for international flights. Upstairs in the Maya Island Air terminal is a comfortable lounge with beautiful decor, comfortable tables and chairs and a full service bar that serves some meat sandwiches or hot dogs or other junk food type of snacks. The bar was staffed by Harry and Dixie and they are so lovely. They help you pass the time with refreshments and friendly conversation. Thank you for the lovely ambiance team! Also, free Wi-Fi. It’s slow but I was able to get and respond to an important text while waiting so I was grateful!

Very friendly! Coffee shop and bar upstairs! Flight from Belize City to San Pedro is only 20 minutes with beautiful view! It's definately better than water taxie and affordable!

Amazing amazing service... Always have a comfortable flight to and from the town... Has a beautiful aquarium inside the waiting area and wait time isn't lengthy. Service 10/10 Reliability 10/10 Over all 10/10 Would definitely recommend tropic air!!

Pretty cool small airport, as it should be for a municipal local airport. Didn't see any jets, I guess they don't fly here, because they are not needed. Many cargo terminals of local aurlines also with little planes. Not crowded, clean. Didn't fly from here though lol

Since there’s not much to it, it’s hard to rate it as great. The staff are super friendly though. The restaurant isn’t too bad and the restrooms were clean. That’s all I really ask for in an airport without a lounge. Make sure you get plenty of free samples of rum while you’re there. We did!!!
Ace G — Google review
Small airport but efficient. We flew in from Houston on a direct flight and chartered a helicopter to and from Turneffe Island. The service and transport were executed with ease. Very smooth flight in and out. I gave it 4 stars because the restaurant and food options are limited. There is a small pizza restaurant that can seat a handful of people. The pizza wasn't good. There was another restaurant that you order to go. That food wasn't good either. Also there was one place to get coffee and it wasn't good.

Incredibly easy in/out. Mostly locals and adventurers. Not for the faint of heart.
Hugh W — Google review
Great little airport. They do not have jetways here, so you will go up stairs to get into and out of the cabins. Coming into the country took a lot longer than going out, but it wasn't any worse than some of the bigger airports I've been in. They have some nice food and souvenir shops you can check out while you are waiting for your flight, but they start closing between 4 and 5 pm. So shop early.

Awesome way to.get between Belize City and Placencia,BZ. Edwin out plot was nice and handled the plane like the Pro he is!

Little airport serving Maya and Tropic air but also private airplanes and BERT. Service is always good and trips to San Pedro or Caye Caulker only take a few minutes. The international airport Philip Goldson, Dangriga, Belmopan, Punta Gorda and other little airports are flown to from here. CCCCC Lidar airplane is also stationed here.

Philip S.W. Goldson International Airport

International airport
Airport
Philip S.W. Goldson International Airport, also known as PGIA, is the main gateway to Belize. Travelers can rent a car or arrange private transfers upon arrival, and there are bus services connecting various parts of the country. The airport offers limited facilities landside but has air-conditioned check-in areas and clean restrooms with free Wi-Fi. Airside, passengers can find eateries, duty-free shops, cafes, and bars.
Amazing airport! They do all procedures very fast. Copa Airlines started check-in at 2:25 PM and at 2:50 PM I was already near the gate. They ask you to fill the immigration form both when you arrive and leave Belize. Border officers are kind and friendly, other airport staff too. There are a lot of seats, you can always easily find one, because the airport isn't busy and don't have many flights. Also there are many cafes and other points where you can spend some time. Wi-fi is completetely free, no password or registration, one of my first times I see this. Again, it's not crowded at all. Strongly recommend!
Алексей Ш — Google review
This airport is ultra crowded, hot, and loud. There is almost nowhere to sit, no charging stations, and minimal trash cans. At least half of the faucets in the restrooms don't work. And they have very, very dirty Dyson Blade hand dryers. Very disgusting.
Sports C — Google review
The country of Belize has become a hot tourist destination. The only way to explore the country is to fly into Belize International Airport. You would think that, with all this fanfare, the airport would have more places to shop, eat and drink. Instead, there are small eateries that do not have variety. I was hungry and when they opened at 8 am, tried one of their burritos that turned out to be dry. They could also do with better air conditioning. it is cool in only certain sections of the waiting areas by the gates. Restrooms are inadequate In terms of space, stall and amenities. And overall seating is extremely uncomfortable.
Peter M — Google review
Nothing fancy, but the airport gets you where you’re going with no more hassle than anywhere else. No exclusive clubs to wait for connections, just a few shops and restaurants, but easy to navigate and pretty efficient. You’ll be crossing the tarmac deplaning and boarding, so dress appropriately. Can get noisy and crowded at certain times, but just relax and enjoy the tropical vibes. All staff speak English. You can skip the bag hustlers for flight transfers, it’s only a short walk to the regional counters. Cold beer, some souvenirs, and pretty tasty food while you wait.

The Phillip S. W. Goodson International Airport in Belize is an airport that is growing to meet the growing demands of tourism for Belize. I really appreciated that I could clear US customs and immigration enroute to Miami. The prices for souvenirs were not outrageous and there was ample place to sit and wait on your flight.
Dr. O — Google review
Nice airport. Operates with Belizean efficiency 😀 I've never had a problem or had to wait very long for immigration and customs. As long as you have all your documents in order you can breeze right thru
Devin G — Google review
They're growing. A few more food options. Boarding to leave BZE sure is a lot more organized than in the USA. However, I did see quiet a few people lose their bottles of hot sauce that they bought in the airport before going through security because it was 5 Oz not 3 Oz. The rule still applies, don't be fooled by the stores.
Elizabeth K — Google review
Trash Immigration and avoid House of Maya! BZE Airport has a certain old-school charm, but that’s about where the positives end. The process feels completely outdated; you must have printed boarding passes like it’s the 90s, yet oddly, the digital immigration form is fine. The airport itself is very small and a bit dingy, with more workers sitting on benches relaxing than helping travelers move through the process. No one seems to be in a hurry here, including the American gate check. It’s not often you arrive at 9- at an airport and there is NO ONE working it the gate. This might be fine if you’re on island time, but frustrating if you’re trying to catch a flight I. It gets the job done, but barely… and I mean barely. Also - avoid HOUSE OF MAYA. It’s a wild experience to have people of color follow other people of color around a cheap souvenir shop. Like - do tourist steal that much or just the ones that look black? I didn’t see them nearly follow the white people. Sheesh - over priced and cheap. Never again.

Chetumal International Airport

International airport
Airport
Chetumal International Airport (IATA: CTM, ICAO: MMCM) is a charming gateway nestled in Chetumal, Quintana Roo, Mexico. This small yet efficient airport serves as the primary hub for travelers heading to this vibrant city and its picturesque surroundings. Operated by Aeropuertos y Servicios Auxiliares (ASA), it features a single runway that facilitates quick access to nearby attractions like the stunning Bacalar Lagoon and Mahahual beach.
The negative comments reek of first world problems. I got here and the AC is fine, there are about three shops for food on one side of security and two shops when you get past security. This isn't an international hub so expecting fine dining restaurants is dumb. You can get hamburgers and fast food and drinks. Small amount of seating on the exit side but plenty of seating on the boarding side. Bathrooms on both sides of the airport boarding areas. These people complaining are pampered princesses, this airport is functional for its size and does what its suppose to do.
Keith M — Google review
Have you been in the one of the most horibble airport. Enjoy Chetumal. No AC or ventilator around the whole airport. Definetely try to avoid this hell.
Michal O — Google review
Worlds most stupid regulations prevent Taxis from picking up passengers from the airport, forcing them to walk a noticeable distance just to enter the very same car which driver told you they can't pick you up there. This needs fixing so it would stop being so stupid. "You can order a taxi directly from the booth" - invalid thesis if it's morning and no-one is at the booth.
Michał K — Google review
If you need a taxi, ask for one as soon as you get off the plane to the taxi lady, very long wait. Check taxi prices because it double in 3 days from when I went to the hotel to when I returned to the airport. They reach up their butt and whatever come out is what you pay. Scam! And no ride sharing apps. When you leave, the airport opens at 11AM. Before security there are only 8 seats available & one food stand. Very basic airport.
Sean — Google review
Very clean and everyone is very attentive. Check in and security process was fast and easy! Definitely recommend!
Richie V — Google review
Here at check in and the airport Air-conditioning is out! Been for months as people have commented. This is ridiculous you don’t even have seats to sit in. My mother-in law needs her oxygen and this makes it harder for her to be here. Person at counters are great but the facility is really poor in maintenance.
Esmeralda C — Google review
Worst Airport I have been so far, nothing to eat (except Fast Food), very small and the security check is awful. They seem to like to make the travels for non Mexican Residents miserable.
Corinne K — Google review
If anyone is wondering, the chetumal airport is open 24h and there are actually comfortable benches to sleep on inside the airport. I arrived at 1am and did not want to travel alone to Bacalar at night, so I slept there. Nobody said anything and there was barely any guests there so it was nice and quiet
