Riverford Field Kitchen - Organic Restaurant

Restaurant
Riverford Field Kitchen is a family-friendly organic restaurant located on Riverford Farm at Buckfastleigh. The restaurant offers a set menu of locally farmed dishes that changes daily, featuring scrumptiously seasonal veg-centric platters made from organic vegetables hoiked out of the nearby soil. The long communal table allows diners to mix and mingle while enjoying dishes like carrot freekeh with parsley, chicken with apricot and pistachio, and tenderstem broccoli with soft-boiled egg zaatar.
Amazing set lunch menu at Riverford. We really enjoyed ourselves and the food was outstanding. Big portions and so delicious! Staff were very lovely and helpful. We will definitely be returning. This is a place you have to visit!

I've been multiple times now but wanted to take some friends who came down to visit for lunch on Friday and the food was spot on. Absolutely delicious. The beetroot creme fraiche dip for the sourdough was absolutely stunning and the rhubarb semifreddo was one of the best desserts I've ever had. I tell everyone about this place.
Bryonyrh16 — Google review
Loved this field kitchen & it's unique dining experience. All diners are invited to arrive @ 7pm for a 7:30 serving of the exact same dishes. With a focus on vegetarian dishes with a hint of meat it's taster plates were interesting combinations of ingredients & flavours. A varied wine list & range of soft drinks were on offer. The beautiful wooden structure of this gorgeous restaurant lives harmoniously within the rural setting. An inviting outdoor space was available for those warmer days/evenings. Plenty of parking available on site.
Teresa P — Google review
What a wonderful experience. We only booked on the day and took a seat outdoors for the evening sitting. The location is lovely and the outdoor area was actually great. It’s not heated but they did explain this over the phone. You get blankets and it’s under cover. The service and food were fantastic. Everyone has the same menu (yes vegetarians are well catered for). The food was well presented, very tasty in a sharing format per table. This informal design adds to the experience. Some interesting soft drinks like shrub and homemade kombucha adorn the menu. We found it to be very good value for money and it’s not hard to see why it’s booked out midweek. Highly recommended but advise you book ahead.
James W — Google review
So good, this will probably be the best meal you have in Devon. Incredible value at £34pp for lunch starters, main and dessert. Everything was lovely but the main course lamb we had was spectacular. Lots of different organic veg. Don't miss this incredible place
Adam B — Google review
Excellent service. Phenomenal food. Every plate brought out was delicious. Catered for GF needs and I didn't feel like I 'missed out ' on any course. Everyone is served at a similarish time, has the same food on sharing plates at each table and then a choice of puddings. Vegetables are the stars but lamb was also part of the menu. The food courses flowed seamlessly with perfect gaps to get drinks/let good settle. We loved that you didn't know the menu till you arrived - don't let this put you off. There was also a wonderful selection of drinks to try. I only hope we can one day visit again!
Beth B — Google review
A friend hired the venue for a book launch and it was a lovely setting to celebrate together with family and friends. The service was very good and the food delicious! Easy to access with a car and the car park itself is quite large. The only challenge is accessing with public transport, some Taxi options book up fast so worth looking in advance if required. The gardens and outdoor space is equally as nice as the building nestled in the trees.
Ken J — Google review
Gorgeous food that has come a matter of yards from the fields right next to where you eat. Great service and very reasonable set price menu. Would definitely return if we’re nearby again

The Masons Arms, Knowstone

Fine dining restaurant
Restaurant
The Masons Arms, Knowstone is a 13th-century pub located in the serene Devonshire countryside near South Molton. The charming thatched cottage exudes old-school charm with its wood-beamed bar and frescoed restaurant. Run by a husband-and-wife team, it's renowned for its gourmet British and French dishes, skillfully prepared and attractively presented.
Visited the restaurant for lunch. Beautiful old Devon pub nestled in a village off the beaten track. Very welcoming from the moment we entered. Plenty of time to review the menu and make choices while sitting in the lounge. Two menu's; a lunchtime menu at a set price and an a la carte menu. Conveniently even the set menu has individual prices for starter, main and dessert, so you can swap between menu's. We chose from both and all excellent. Beautifully cooked an presented and very, very good. Service very friendly and charming. I cannot recommend enough.

Wow, stumbled upon this hidden gem by accident. They accommodated us for lunch lucky they had space for 2. The kids were not bothered… my what a pleasant surprise and excellent value. The staff were friendly and accommodating. Pictures tell a thousand words and the taste did not disappoint. Everything was cooked to perfection, palate was dancing and plates were empty.
Nishad P — Google review
From the first moment of arrival outside this utterly charming and beautiful restaurant, the very best experience awaits. A warm welcome and invitation to relax in the sitting room with pre luncheon drinks and nibbles whilst we peruse the menus was just the beginning. Our selection from the set 3 course menu was superb, beautifully presented, perfect. The staff are warm and friendly, efficient and discreet. Well deserving of the accolades and Michelin ⭐ Thank you Sarah, Mark and the team for a splendid lunch.
Michele D — Google review
Had lunch at the Masons arms. The food and service was exceptional. Local very well sourced produce, put together by a chef who is obviously a master of his trade. Would highly recommend anyone to make the trip to try this place out. Also big thanks for accommodating us in their bar area with our two Labradors. Often you are made to feel having dogs as a nuisance, but this couldn't of been further from the truth here. All in all, an easy 5/5 from my wife and I.
Samuel H — Google review
Stunning old 13th century original building, set in the beautiful village of Knowstone. This Michelin star restaurant is one to visit. The atmosphere inside this beautiful old Inn is delightful. You're met with the finest customer service. All staff are extremely warm and welcoming. You don't just dine here for a meal you dine here for the experience. This fine restaurant offers the most delicious meal with a good full menu. Priced well considering its Michelin star! Portions are a good size and you definitely come away feeling full. I can not recommend this more.
Charlotte W — Google review
A really nice lunch here on the way to North Devon. Service was great and really understanding of motorway delays. Atmosphere was a bit flat, personally I'd have appreciated some quiet background music. Food was very good. Tuna, scallops, monkfish and lamb were all full of flavour, tender and perfectly cooked. Portions were a little small, and prices a little expensive. Came to £120 for two courses for two of us. We will definitely come back again but maybe not every time we go past!
Phil R — Google review
A gorgeous country gastropub with exceptional food. Also excellent, thoughtful service with good attention to detail. The wine and beer were brilliant too. Beef and monkfish were standout dishes. A thoroughly enjoyable experience.
Alex — Google review
We came here based on the Michelin Guide and it did not disappoint. It’s tucked away in a small village - probably a hamlet with nothing else really around. It felt isolated but in a really lovely way. So, location = fantastic. Now, the food. The complementary bread was outstanding. Beautiful texture and flavour and the perfect accompanying seasoning - butter, olive oil, balsamic and cute pots of coarse salt and pepper which felt both luxurious and rustic simultaneously. The scallops were beautifully cooked and the soup was fine. But the mains - monkfish and beef (if memory serves) were amazing. Beautiful depth and earthy flavour with the beef. The monkfish was beautifully cooked. Then finally, the pistachio soufflé was fantastic. Soufflés aren’t the easiest to find in the UK - and this one is worth travelling for! Highly recommend visiting this place. We’ll be visiting again!

The Oyster Shack

Seafood restaurant
The Oyster Shack is a charming seafood restaurant located above the lido, offering a variety of fresh fish and seafood dishes. The establishment has recently undergone changes with a new chef and an updated menu, leading to mixed reviews from patrons. However, the restaurant continues to be praised for its simply prepared fish sourced from the morning's auction at Brixham. In 2022, a new rooftop terrace was added where guests can enjoy freshly grilled catch with stunning views across the bay to Torquay.
Amazing sea food with a great combination of flavours. Everything was cooked perfectly and we loved the truffle slaw. Monkfish was delicious. Love that it’s dog friendly too. Was looking forward to the marmalade pudding after seeing some reviews, but it was just a normal steamed pudding really, but still tasty.

We had a lovely evening for my mums birthday. There were just two serving staff & they were amazing. They managed a full & busy restaurant with calm, pleasant & efficient skill. I really was very impressed - really I would have expected x3 floor staff or x2 floor & a bar staff but they did it all!! Thank you & well done
Sima C — Google review
What a great little hidden gem. We went for dinner and it did not disappoint. The staff are all so friendly. We brought our dog who also was well looked after. We started with scallops and oysters. For main we had mussels which I needed dairy free, no problem at all and still full of flavour. My husband had sea bass which was cooked to perfection. Sadly we was too full to try any desserts. We will definitely be returning again and recommending to any friends who head this way.
Michelle S — Google review
We had such a delicious meal at this lovely cozy place, make sure to make phone reservation in advance as it's always busy specially around weekends and bank holidays. Parking could be an issue as well. Bring less cars if you are big crowd. The crew were amazing, so friendly and patient to take our order, which was later served with smiles and care, food was fresh, hot and super delicious. Make sure to check the catch of the day board in your way in. Thank you for such lovely meal.
Darkwing318 — Google review
We enjoyed a lovely meal at this family-friendly restaurant on a recent holiday in Devon. The fish was all freshly barbecued and the outdoor covered seating was perfect for a summer evening. Would recommend this quirky restaurant if you’re visiting the area.
Ruth D — Google review
Really lovely spot - staff were really friendly but quite slow. Loved the oysters but if you love oysters, recommend just going raw dog with a vinaigrette rather than drowning in sauce. The bbq fish looked delicious and the octopus tostada was incredible!!!

WOW what a little gem of a place!!! Really relaxing atmosphere and top class service, excellent ending to a well deserved vitamin sea ⛵ break 🦀 By the way.....The food is outstanding 😁

The Cornish Arms is a charming inn located in the heart of Tavistock, known for its vintage-style rooms and suites. Following a complete transformation in 2013 by St Austell Brewery, this establishment has evolved into an elegant gastropub with a focus on providing top-notch offerings. The menu features a wide range of dishes, from simple classics to more elaborate fare, accompanied by an impressive selection of drinks.
Nice venue, with comfortable atmosphere. We didn't book and were easily able to sit in the bar for dinner around 7:30 on a sunday evening. Really excellent vegan menu, the selection was great, with some very interesting options and delicious onion rings. The desserts were really special and we left absolutely stuffed and very happy.
Phily — Google review
Stayed overnight at the Cornish Arms have there own car park and rear of pub. Rooms are good size and well furnished, well equipped modern bathroom with walk in rainfall shower. Only downside is WiFi a little lacking keeps on dropping out. We ate in the restaurant and the food was really very good and the service was top notch. The included breakfast was not massive but very good quality and again service was excellent. So all in all a really great place would definitely stay there again.
James T — Google review
I've been here a couple of times now and both times were great experiences. The latest meal (for four of us) was excellent, all of us had different dishes and all were good. The service is attentive but sensible. The atmosphere is good, a gentle buzz with plenty of diners even though we sat down really early (6pm on a Wednesday out of season). Not cheap, but very good value still. We'd come back for sure.
Phil D — Google review
Cannot rate this hotel highly enough. It fully deserves it's position in the Sunday Times top 50 best Gastropubs. The rooms, food and service are all so good. It was a chance booking but what a find. To cap everything else off to have it's own parking space for every room while in such a central location is amazing. This is a true gem of a find.
Fiona H — Google review
Had a lovely vegan dinner here. It was great to have an entirely separate menu so we could easily see what we could eat. The options were interesting and absolutely delicious and included a sticky toffee pudding (!!!!!) It was a random and damp Thursday evening but the restaurant was busy, with a lovely atmosphere, music at the right level, good buzz but tables are far enough apart that you can hear each other. Fantastic service from everyone - professional and efficient but really friendly. Would definitely recommend.
Kate H — Google review
Went here on the back of a recommendation. I can honestly say that the whole experience was outstanding. It’s not cheap but it shouldn’t be. The food and service was excellent. Some things are worth spending money on. This is one. 5 star and the best meal and service I think I’ve ever had.
Crowder211 — Google review
Wow what great pub. Chose it for its food primarily and what a great choice. Definitely the best fish and chips I've ever had, and the beers were good too! Nice friendly staff and locals who made you feel welcome . Downside is parking, yes it's there if you're staying, but not too much bother to park in a public car park. I'd definitely return if in the area
Dave H — Google review
Stayed for a night before a wedding. Due to traffic we arrived quite late but the staff kept the kitchen open for us. Everything was wonderful food, staff and location. Lovely friendly place and our room was amazing. Definitely be back.

Restaurant
Nestled by the yacht club and marina, The Elephant Restaurant is a culinary gem that offers two distinct dining experiences. On the ground floor, you’ll find a relaxed brasserie atmosphere where you can savor wholesome dishes crafted from locally sourced ingredients. For those seeking something more refined, head upstairs to the Michelin-starred dining room, where an exquisite tasting menu awaits. Here, seafood fresh from the English Channel takes center stage alongside carefully selected wines that elevate each dish.
Came here for a birthday meal with my 10 year old son. What an amazing experience. The food was out of this world. We had the set lunch. And what amazing value that is. The flavours are unreal. The restaurant has a really nice atmosphere and the service is second to none. The staff are so friendly and helpful and make the whole experience really worthwhile. I've wanted to come here for 20 years and now I have and it didn't disappoint. I can't wait to come back again.
Mark C — Google review
Had the lunchtime tasting menu. Superb value for money and some really good cooking. The stand-out dish for me was the makeral tartar. If I were to make any comment on the food, it would be that the stone bass lacked an acidic component. The service was good and attentive without being obsequious.
Rupert F — Google review
Was quiet for a Saturday afternoon which wasn’t a bad thing. Food fantastic service brilliant decor lovely. We had the tasting menu which was great. If you are in Torquay EAT HERE. We will be back.
Anthony C — Google review
As you'd the food was excellent at this Michelin Star restaurant. We had the tasting menu which didn't disappoint. We selected our own wine which was delicious, a New Zealand sauvignon blanc. The seating and decor is well done and stimulated a good conversation at our table. The restaurant service was excellent and staff friendly, apart from the front of house person who was not very welcoming.
Mark P — Google review
Visit for my birthday treat. We were greeted beautifully and offered a window table. Window was open but the offered to close it if we were cold. We were offered choices of water on the table. We opted for tap water. I was surprised at the lack of alcohol free wines (just 2) and no mocktails listed on the drinks menus. The maitre'd had good knowledge of the menu. The food was excellent and couldn't be faulted. However, we were let down by our server. They simply announced the dishes as "peach" or "Octopus" etc which was a bit disappointing when we heard everyone else's meals being delivered. Additionally they mixed up the additions to our meals which didn't matter to us as we shared them but it potentially might have been a problem if anyone had an allergy. The Creme Brulee was Spectacular!
Stephanie K — Google review
Best meal in Torquay. Not every dish was a homerun, but they were all good. The service was excellent
Ronnie Ø — Google review
Just SUPERB! Wonderful meal with delicate but distinct flavours. The team were excellent, helpful, knowledgeable and friendly. We had the taster lunch with matching wines, which made a birthday celebration lunch very special. At The Elephant, you pay for excellence and ambience, and the restaurant delivers in every regard, and more! Everything we had on the taster menu was delightful, and I have to recommend the petite bouche as a great way to prepare your palate for what is to come. Thanks so much for a wonderful experience, cannot recommend this highly enough! Enjoy!
Darren P — Google review
Delightful dining room, service from entrance to leaving was superb. We had the fixed price lunch menu but I wanted to choose a dessert from the carte, no problem just paid the extra. What I love about food like this is that it tastes great and although on the plate the items don’t look massive at the end of the meal you’re totally satiated but not uncomfortably full. The sourdough and mushroom butter was a delicious start, I chose the fish of the day (gurnard) and OH had duck leg - they were both those sort of plates of food you don’t want to finish because they taste so good. Plenty of wines by the glass to choose from, good idea as someone has to drive! Thank you Simon and all your team both in the kitchen and FOH. I definitely recommend you book a table here if you’re in the area.

Andria

Mentioned on

Restaurant
Nestled in the charming riverside town of Dartmouth, Andria is a culinary gem that beautifully marries modern European dining with the freshest local ingredients. Head Chef Luca Berardino, who hails from Paris and has Italian roots, brings his diverse training from the UK to create an ever-evolving menu that showcases Devon's exceptional seafood.
After a journey to Dartmouth that took 3 times longer than it should have, we only just made it to the restaurant in time for our dinner reservation. Thank goodness we did though. The food, service and ambience was exactly what we needed to cheer ourselves up. It was the first time we'd been and I'd advise booking in the evening. The reviews I'd read suggested it was good and I can wholeheartedly agree. This is a small plates restaurant, where you select a variety of dishes from the menu and they turn up in order when they have been freshly prepared. The two of us shared everything and found that we had ordered just the right amount with 6 dishes in total. The food was gorgeous. So tasty. So much thought had gone into the flavours and the cooking was spot on. Service was super. The two people looking after us were great. They were very friendly, attentive and helpful. The wine list is a good one and not excessively pricey. So if you're looking for great food in a relaxed atmosphere cooked by people who care about what they do, then look no further.

Intimate, unassuming restaurant where the food is the focus. Small plates restaurant where 5-6 dishes per couple is ideal. Perfect for foodies who appreciate fresh, local produce. Sourdough Focaccia & beetroot were delicious.

EXCEPTIONAL!!! Devon's best kept secret. I nearly didn't want to write this review being completely selfish and keeping it as our hidden secret! We have now been twice and this restaurant easily smashes any other restaurant in Devon, even beating the Michelins. Yes, it really is that good. Every single dish is a triumph, with layers of flavour, amazing wine list, amazing staff and simply beautiful! It's like a tasting menu of tapas style food which is great for sharing. Amen
Helen P — Google review
We have eagerly followed the journey of Andria for a while and were so pleased to finally visit - it completely exceeded all expectations! The food was excellent, exceptional quality and well thought out plates. The experience was one we won't forget for a long time, neither the delicious scallops! Being a Brixham girl myself, you certainly did them proud! The restaurant itself is quite intimate so the spacing for my wheelchair was limited, however all of the staff ensured that my experience was the same as everyone elses. The restaurant is also level access from the pavement level so no additional ramps required for wheelchair users. We already can't wait to return.
Tori B — Google review
Extraordinarily good. For £90/head we ate like kings, including a very good bottle of Champagne and cocktails (the bourbon sour is excellent). The service is wonderful, understated; our plates were produced quickly, even in the middle of a busy service. The flavours and presentation were sublime. 48 hours later and our party is still raving about just how good this little gem of a restaurant is! Every dish was perfectly balanced and of the very highest quality.

Absolutely blown away , amazing concept , from being greeted to getting the bill , not an a single error from start to finish , from front and back of house , would recommend to anyone who enjoys a very relaxing evening of cock tails amazing wine and food - first time I’ve been after a lot of recommendations from friends - wish I came sooner. Keep up the good work. Can’t wait to come back.

BOOK A TABLE IN THIS RESTAURANT!! We were lucky to be gifted lunch at this gem. Warm welcome, chilled vibe, great company and the most delicious food. The Dartmoor Inn is a 16th-century inn located near some of the best trails in Dartmoor National Park. It offers a chic and modern ambiance along with four stylish B&B rooms. The inn is known for serving hearty pub lunches and local tipples to hikers exploring the area. Whether it's winter or summer, visitors can enjoy seasonal classics like Creedy Carver duck with creamy mash or Jail Ale battered hake with triple cooked chips.
We stopped by for our last lunch whilst on holiday in Dartmoor and by goodness I’m glad we did! The landlady is an absolute delight, very welcoming and accommodating considering we turned up 45 minutes early. I had the pigeon to start which was out of this world and flavours that were beautifully executed. My husband had the duck which was also sublime. We both had the steak and chips for mains, which were utterly delicious. For pudding I had the brownie and my husband had sticky toffee pudding, again, both superb. The service was faultless and the wine menu both varied and excellent value for money. We cannot wait to return!

Tess, Jay and all the staff gave us a 5 star experience. The pub/hotel nestles just below the most fantastic Dartmoor hills and scenery and you can be on the moor just a two minute walk away. The welcome we received was very warm and relaxed and the room was spacious with a wonderfully, comfortable bed. The dinner was excellent but just as much care was taken with the breakfast. All of it was superb. It’s easy to see why The Dartmoor Inn have won awards since Tess and Jay took over six years ago. Thank you to all the team and we will definitely be back…with family!

We stayed here on Saturday evening. We had a lovely room. Dinner was amazing. Very difficult to narrow down choices on the menu as it all looked great! Service was very friendly and attentive. Breakfast was the best I have had in a long time. Would thoroughly recommend staying here and we will come back in the future.

Stunning, sensational and spectacular food. Starters : goats cheese and asparagus were sublime. The sticky toffee pudding is the best I have ever had and I must have eaten 167 in my life so it was literally the best out of 167!! Lovely staff too and the setting is unpretentious and welcoming. This is how you do restaurant meals.

A fantastic pub to stay and eat in. Staff were welcoming. Room large and comfortable. Food was amazing, both the evening meal and breakfast were so tasty. Great location for Lydford Gorge or Dartmoor. Would highly recommend.

We just had lunch - but if the rooms are anywhere near as good as the restaurant, they must be amazing. We had lunch on 19/6 after recommendation from friends. The staff are lovely and the food was truly amazing and remarkably good value. The presentation of the food was beautiful and every mouthful delicious. Probably one of the best meals we've ever had. Thank you for great memories

Had food here before meeting friends for a walk. Food was lovely and reasonably priced, staff were friendly and attentive. I can't comment on the rooms as we didn't stay, but the overall atmosphere was pleasant and very accommodating.
Isla — Google review
Eleven of us, with a tiny dog, came here on a weekday lunchtime to celebrate one family member’s 80th birthday - and the experience was superb from the moment we were greeted on arrival, to the time we left with full bellys and big smiles all round. Our booking had been allocated not only a private dining room with tables arranged in a square so we could all see and talk to each other, but also an adjoining lounge where we could enjoy conversation over a glass of bubbly prior to sitting down. The menu was extensive enough to provide something for everyone, and the food when it arrived was cooked to perfection and commendably hot. The service was attentive without ever being intrusive, and organised well enough to bring everyone’s meals at the same time even though we’d ordered a wide selection of different dishes. Without any doubt - this was family dining out at its very best. Thank you very much, Dartmoor Inn, for making our booking a fantastic family event to remember.

Restaurant Twenty Seven by Jamie Rogers is a popular dining spot located in Kingsbridge, South Hams. The restaurant, housed in a former warehouse, is known for its modern British cuisine and has received accolades since its opening in 2018. Chef Jamie Rogers' creative flair has garnered attention from food enthusiasts near and far. The restaurant's focus on using fresh local produce sourced within twenty-seven miles reflects their commitment to quality and sustainability.
There are so many positive things I want to say about Twenty Seven, it's hard to fit them all into a short review. The atmosphere , the service and the food are all unparalleled. Each dish had an expertly balanced brew of flavours that represent a refinement of food years in the making. Clean, elegantly plated courses making it a food experience worth travelling for, and a must if your visiting Devon.

Visited on Saturday the 28th at six thirty, on entry at that time it was a quiet vibe but greeted immediately by professional staff,if you want a busy atmosphere visit later as it soon became busy from seven. The food is exceptional and presented like art with a taste that matched. We had a seven course menu so please see photos. The service seemed a little robotic at first but in the end the lady who took the bill opened up and it just topped the evening.

I had booked the early dining menu several weeks before, however, when we arrived at 6.45pm, we were told that they no longer offered this. Our server, Julia, handled this really well, as I challenged her on this, and she subsequently contacted the manager, who then offered us an alternative taster menu at a lower price. The menu was delicious, and the paired wine was a really nice accompaniment. The service was excellent, Julia and the other waitress were very professional but Julia had such a natural manner, it enhanced the evening. The setting is also lovely. Well done guys

I can’t say enough good things about this place. From the moment we walked in, the staff set the tone — genuinely welcoming, attentive without hovering, and clearly passionate about what they do. They anticipated what we needed before we even asked and made us feel like valued guests the entire evening. The food was outstanding across the board, with every dish full of flavor and beautifully prepared. Paired with the warm atmosphere and seamless service, the whole experience felt effortless. It’s rare to find a restaurant where both the kitchen and the front of house shine equally. I’d come back in a heartbeat and recommend it to anyone looking for an unforgettable meal. Thank you Jamie, Charlotte, Claire and everyone else who I have missed out!

Twenty Seven has been on our list to visit for a long time, and on Friday we made it happen as an anniversary treat. We were first in the restaurant as it opened and so we received very attentive treatment, but even as it got busier over the next hour the service levels remained perfect from Claire and Charlotte. They struck the perfect balance: friendly, professional, and never over-familiar. The food was outstanding. We went for the tasting menu, and every single course was a knockout. When asked to pick a favourite at the end, we honestly couldn’t — they were all that good. A brilliant venue with superb staff, exceptional food, and fantastic value for money.

Our a la carte lunch at 27 Kingsbridge was a truly wonderful experience. We were greeted by Julia who was warm, friendly, and authentic. The restaurant is elegant and comfortable . The description of the 4 starters made it difficult to choose between so three of us started by sharing four exquisite starters. The Crab Mille Feuille, Haddock Ravioli, Isle of Wight Tomato Tart and Duck Terrine. The presentation was exquisite, attention to detail superb and tastes phenomenal. For mains, we had Lamb and Beef dishes. Both were perfectly cooked—the lamb tender and flavorful, the beef rich and succulent, showcasing the chef's precise execution. For dessert we had the strawberry Cheesecake and Chocolate Delice. And again we were wowed by them both. 27 Kingsbridge is exceptional. A must-visit for those who appreciate fine dining at its best. If you're looking for a memorable experience then you will not be disappointed.

We’ve been to lots of restaurants all over the world and this place blew us away! Four of us had the tasting menu and dish after dish was a knockout! We even had someone with us who is very fussy and she ate everything that was put in front of her and loved it. The staff were lovely and made our experience perfect. I can’t recommend this place highly enough. Loved it! We still talk about it a year later.

Wonderful wonderful. The atmosphere, food and service that Jamie, Claire, and the team deliver is outstanding. Fantastic Michelin star, quality food, with knowledgeable, friendly staff, who know what they’re bringing to the table makes for a memorable occasion. I don’t think you can get better anywhere in ISouth Devon than this. Thank you x

Emilia

Mentioned on

Italian restaurant
Nestled in the charming town of Ashburton, Emilia is a delightful Italian-inspired osteria that has quickly become a beloved spot since its opening in 2022. Owned by the talented duo Clare Lattin and Tom Hill, formerly of Ducksoup in Soho, this cozy bistro exudes an inviting atmosphere reminiscent of Bologna's hidden gems. The snug dining area features mismatched seating and vintage lighting, creating an intimate setting perfect for enjoying family-style meals around a central wooden table.
Had an amazing meal at Emilia- we are both vegetarian and noted this on the booking, and they had printed out a separate vegetarian menu for us which was amazing. The food was genuinely delicious, and the decor is very cosy and stylish. The wine list looked great and I was sad we couldn’t get a bottle as I was driving! Whilst I loved being able to see the open kitchen, the only thing that I would improve is the ventilation/extractor fan. All my clothes after smelt very strongly of kitchen (like fat/garlic) including a cardigan I was hoping to wear for the rest of this trip. There was a lot of condensation on the windows so maybe something that sucks the air out over the hob a little better for winter when the windows are closed. I’d still go again though the food was amazing

Visited last Saturday and had the most wonderful lunch! Everything we ordered was delicious & seasonal. Lovely service too! Second time visiting (1st time was also great) and I will certainly be back

Best meal that we’ve eaten this year (& we visit a lot of lovely restaurants!). We visited for lunch on a whim during a birthday trip to Devon & we will definitely be back. Food was utterly divine, gorgeous and interesting menu & drinks selection, atmosphere perfect and overall superb experience. Love the inclusion of offal. Fab veggie menu. Enjoyed sitting at the window and watching the world go by. Try the sparkling local red wine! We will definitely make an effort to visit again in future. And the new sister French bistro restaurant. Superb!

Exceptional cooking throughout the whole meal and an absolute joy to watch the chefs preparing everything in front of us, sat at the counter of the open kitchen. Seasonal & high quality ingredients (many items home grown/local) and excellent flavours across everything we ordered. The aubergine and ricotta dish was the star of the menu (charred peaches/mackerel/ lamb ragu with pappardelle made in house also delicious) and the fig leaf ice cream had incredible flavour. I couldn’t fault any of the dishes. Good drinks menu especially non alcoholic options. Service was friendly and attentive and accommodating our dog (treats and water). On a hot day it was very (slightly uncomfortably) warm in the restaurant is my only minor negative but appreciate there isn’t much that can be done when you’re sitting near cooking food. Noted some other reviews stating poor portion size which I must say seems like a load of nonsense. I would 100% recommend and return. Thank you for a memorable meal 💛

Delicious delicious food Recent visit April 2025 Wow Emelia you've done it again. This time we returned as a table of 7. With a bespoke set menu for our party, we all left with full tums. Absolutely delicious food made with combinations id never consider. The menu was beautiful. The team could not have been more friendly and helpful from booking the table, reserving wine, til the very last bite. This included being considerate of a member of our party with specific dietary requirements. As always the setting was intimate, relaxed and warm. Brava. Previous visit 2023 *Cuttlefish risotto nero *Tagliatelle, pork + veal ragu bianco *Braised pig cheeks, tomatoes and cime di rapa (offal of the day) *Ricotta and damsom ripple icecream, pistachio biscotti *Dark chocolate and grape torte *Bottle of Primitivo

What an incredible place. I've been meaning to visit for some time and finally got round to it. 4 of us attended. We tried everything on the menu and everything was delicious.....simple honest perfectly balanced food! The service was really impressive....the waitress was extremely knowledgeable about the wines and the food and made us feel very welcomed. The vibe and decor was aesthetically perfect and I can't wait to go back and visit again! Was worth every penny. ❤️

Exceptional. I’ve eaten at an abundance of highly rated restaurants over the past few years, and this is up there with the best. The small open plan kitchen/restaurant, makes you feel like you are at home. The food is delicious, I wish I could have tried everything! Will definitely be visiting again next time I’m down this way. Can’t fault anything!

Incredible gastronomic experience! The maître d'hôtel was very attentive and he really knew about the food that was being served. We ate a la carte and each and every dish was delicous! It is not so expensive considering the quality you get. We definitely recommend it and we will try to repeat soon!

We were very pleasantly surprised. We opted for 2 starters each and they were a taste sensation in every way. The wait staff were really professional and knew about every detail of the food they served. Location is fab too. Would return, highly recommended.

Best meal we’ve had for a long time. We enjoyed it so much we bought a book of their recipes. The kitchen accommodated my gluten free requests with delicious alternatives and the service was great. I would thoroughly recommend
Alison L — Google review
Was really looking forward to trying this top rated restaurant but so very dissapointed. The main issue is that the restaurant has zero atmosphere, no ambiance or character at all. The service was very good and the starters were excellent. I however chose wrong and the lamb dish was not great. Meat was tough and the fat not rendered down properly. Desert was OK but not wonderful. For the price tag expected better. Shame.
Sue W — Google review
The food here was incredible and the service was impeccable! We had the a la carte menu, everything we had was amazing but the scallops to start were a show stopper. Very nice and reasonably priced drinks were recommended by the staff who were very knowledgeable.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ We had an incredible lunch at The Angel of Dartmouth today. We arrived without a booking and were warmly welcomed — the service from start to finish was faultless. The menu was so impressive, it was hard to choose! We were tempted by the set menu of the day, but ended up ordering from the à la carte and were so glad we did. I had the Brixham crab risotto to start, followed by the halibut, and my husband chose the hand-dived scallops and the Devon lamb. Every dish was beautifully presented and absolutely delicious. We shared the key lime tart for dessert — the perfect end to the meal. The sommelier helped us choose wine pairings that matched each course perfectly. The food, the service, and the atmosphere were all outstanding. We enjoyed every mouthful and felt truly looked after. Highly recommend — this is a very special place.

Many thanks to Ellie and her team for the delicious birthday lunch! The new menu du jour option was a bargain we couldn’t pass up. Everything was delicious as well as beautiful. The starter Gougères were “to die for"; we just wish there had been four per couple; it’s difficult to share three. The English sparkling rosé was particularly good. We look forward to coming again!
Joan S — Google review
We had the tasting menu and enjoyed every single dish. Elly was kind enough to let us swap the duck liver course for scallop. Our favourite dish was the sea bass, with the lamb loin a close second. The service was friendly and attentive. They do a lunch deal which looks like excellent value. Lovely location, and if you get a window seat you can see all the activity going on in the harbour. If you call ahead you may be able to get a private parking spot for £10, if not, it’s worth allowing a bit of extra time to find one- there are spots where you can get 2 hours for free, but if you are having the tasting menu you may want more time. The espresso was excellent quality as were the petit fours.

Exeter Airport

Domestic airport
Exeter Airport is a refreshing alternative to the hustle and bustle of larger international airports. Travelers appreciate the efficient handling of a large volume of people, making it a joy to arrive and depart from this airport. The recent addition of a NESPRESSO coffee machine has impressed frequent flyers, offering high-quality coffee that stands out among typical airport fare. While some areas are currently closed, the airport's friendly staff and quick security process make for a pleasant experience.
I have no complaints about this airport. After flying from all the London airports, Bristol, and Manchester, Exeter was great. It was small, not too busy, easy to get around, clean, and the executive lounge was nice. Parking was easy, everything was stress free 👍

No shuttle bus from car park. Staff seem to take particular delight in harassing female passengers, comments made about size of makeup bag and told to "get rid of the cheap stuff". My uncle was Chief ATC here in the 1970s, embarrassed to be flying from this anti diluvian airport. Other staff in Duty Free helpful and without actually voicing it, seem embarrassed by the state of the place and how it is run.

Not impressed by my treatment at security when flying from this airport to Edinburgh. Had what I would consider to be an overzealous body search. Not experienced one like it in all my years of flying. No problems going through security at Edinburgh. Yet here I apparently had '"alot of metal on my person" I have a titanium hip replacement which is never a problem elsewhere (scanners need an update?). My jumper was lifted at the back ( being female, there are metal hooks on my bra) I don't know what else she expected to find. Also hand was placed under the waistband of my trousers. I was told this was going to happen but I wasn't happy. Paddles up and down both legs, inside and out. Told to stand against the wall to remove my shoes. They haven't changed the liquid restrictions at this airport as in Glasgow and Edinburgh so I hadn't remembered to put everything in the the small plastic bag and my luggage was rescanned. Part of that was my fault, but maybe it's time to catch up with other airports as regards this. I had a lovely stay in Devon with everyone being helpful and friendly but this left a sour taste.

Car park 4 …… tiny parking spaces if you treasure your car, don’t use this car park No shuttle bus to main airport and it’s a good 10 to 15 minute walk , not fun when you’ve got cases to drag late at night in the rain, especially if you’ve got mobility problems The rose wine that I’ve got was absolutely disgusting. It would’ve made better drain cleaner !!! and no draft Beer or larger I’m still quite baffled about how we got to be rated one of the best in the UK
Veronica T — Google review
Great little airport with very small terminal, so easy to get around. Not great if it’s raining when you return as you often end up outside getting rather wet but otherwise makes travelling abroad from Devon and Cornwall more accessible rather than having to travel to Bristol or Cardiff.
Kerry G — Google review
Like most UK airports Exeter has decided to fleece its visitors drivers with a £5 drop off fee. It's not like there's a rail or decent bus alternative. Being tiny, most people of course arrange to be collected on the road, no one is going to pay £5 to walk 100 metres, so there is chaos on the nearby roads and local business' driveways. There is a free facility further down the road but this isn't properly promoted. Once inside, small is beautiful. The departure lounge is perfect although they could use some more seating at the gate. Arrivals is disastrous. We arrived just after another flight, so that's just two planes offloading and we have to queue outside in the cold and rain for immigration, all very third world. There were three staff operating border control which was a good effort, the infrastructure is just too small. All the staff I encountered were nice and efficient.

Great Airport easy to get to car parks nearby a small and friendly airport

All was fine ,walking from plane to Airport building. Then a 40 min wait, standing in a corridor, to go through passport control. 3 border officials on duty, fine. No where to lean in the corridor and people desperate for the loo !! 15 min wait before the luggage carousel started rolling. All in all tolerable experience. Convenience of flying from/to Exeter far out ways the wait, but it would be even better without !!

Cardiff Airport

International airport
Airport
Cardiff Airport is a small but efficient airport located just minutes from the lively Welsh capital. Despite its size, it offers essential amenities such as Greggs, Costa Coffee, WHSmiths, a pub, and duty-free shopping. The airport provides a calm and quiet atmosphere with minimal queues at security and plenty of seating for travelers to relax before their flights. While it may not have the flashy stores of larger airports, Cardiff Airport offers everything needed for a pleasant travel experience.
Phenomenal. We stood at the end of the runway where we watched the planes coming into land. The noise from the Boeing 747 was incredible and absolutely amazing. There were a variety of smaller crafts passing overhead. Absolutely brilliant.
Julie B — Google review
Extremely disappointment decision by the airport authorities with the £3 drop off few for 10minutes. Very disappointing amount too as it could be £1 instead : it’s already so difficulty to her to the airport from the city centre, as public transport unfriendly unless you fancy travelling on a bus for 90mins from the city or a train followed by a bus which again takes an hour! Car is the only option! Very empty check in area- only Logan air counters open. Upstairs to departures- much better now, More organised and smoother security without waits as previously with more security aisles. Duty free still the same size albeit missing champagne deals. Three options for seated food and drink: tap and brew, y Castell and Costa Coffee. WH Smith around the corner. The lounge only accepts dragonpass and not priority pass.
Travelling D — Google review
The airport was fine, but the parking was very confusing. It doesn't distinguish between long stay & short stay. Thus when taking folks to departures or picking them up at arrivals, you have no idea which car park to go to!
Jonathan G — Google review
Real mixed bag. Plenty of parking a short walk to the terminal. Quick bag drop and quick through security. Choices for food when through are limited and the sole bar needs a very thorough clean. 1 duty free shop and one W h Smith is all that's there to browse. A pub and a costa, both double the normal costs are the only food options.

Flying from Cardiff to Malaga today and the whole experience has been fantastic, other airports could learn a lot from Cardiff. From parking to security to duty free, the staff are welcoming and their customer service is second to none. Special mention to Robert Lewis in security who was exceptionally helpful, a credit to Cardiff Airport, who clearly loves his work. Thank you Cardiff Airport for making the beginning of our holiday a stress free experience. Love flying from Cardiff! Diolch my fawr 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

Toured Wales and ended my time in Cardiff. At Cardiff Airport, very easy rental car drop off. Very easy check-in, bag drop off and getting through security. Also visited the business lounge. From my very first interaction to getting on the plane, every single person was friendly and efficient. I have spent time in the busiest airports in the world, and Cardiff Airport was a breath of fresh air for me. I will make a point of trying to fly in or out of Cardiff in the future. Thanks! .

Fantastic airport. Easy to navigate taking the stress away from travelling. The people who work in the car park (express) couldn't do enough for you. Staff in the airport were lovely. It makes travelling a breeze. 👍

I kindly request consideration for expanding international flight routes at Cardiff Airport. Increasing global connectivity will not only benefit travelers but also significantly boost the local economy—supporting taxi businesses, creating jobs, and driving more visitors into our vibrant city. Thank you for your attention to this opportunity for regional growth.
