Restaurant
Novo Restaurant & Lounge is a renowned dining spot situated along the San Luis Obispo Creek, offering an enchanting and intimate atmosphere. The restaurant features a diverse menu of Asian-fusion cuisine with a Californian twist, curated by Executive Chef Ben Richardson using locally sourced, fresh ingredients. With an extensive cocktail and wine selection, Novo provides a unique fine dining experience in downtown San Luis Obispo.
Our host, Christopher was so knowledgeable with items on the menu and sensitive to my gluten allergies; double checking on items to make sure they were safe for me to enjoy. He came back to check on us multiple times as did other waiters to refill our water glasses. The Nada Colada mocktail was to die for. Be prepared to eat art as every dish had the appearance of a masterpiece, which I appreciate. I gave 4/5 stars on food as I do feel the flavors could be elevated on some dishes such as the cauliflower soup and coconut pie. We will be back and are delighted that our furr babies can join us out on the patio. Views of creekside made for a fine dining experience.

Visited midday on Sunday and ordered from a limited 3-5 pm menu. The food arrived quick and every one of the food items were very well prepared and the shrimp spring rolls were remarkably fresh. Similarly, the lavender and the elderflower cocktails were tasty, thought too heavy on the ice and unexpectedly, served in thick water glasses, which stole from the experience. The waiter was friendly and gave recommendations for food and drinks. The front of the restaurant is well decorated, but the true delight is the patio deck, on top of the green and tranquil creek.

Love this cute restaurant at a small town of San Luis Obispo. Love their outdoor patio. Dog friendly restaurant. Fusion food, dishes that we ordered all of them are good. Staffs are nice. We actually came back twice while visiting there. Price decent. We walked to the restaurant since it’s a distance walk from our hotel. We made rsvp the 2nd time. First time was walking in and lucky they had a table available. So they do take walk in. They can get pack though. It’s very cute town also. Can walk around after for digestions.
Amenita T — Google review
What a beautiful setting... Everything was wonderful except the spice level on the Thai curry dish was VERY spicy. The waiter said it was "a little spicy." I needed extra rice because it was so spicy. I was charged $3 for the rice. That was a little surprising. I still would've gotten rice, it just would've just been nice to know that before the bill came. My wife's dish, the lemon pasta, was excellent. We would definitely be back
David W — Google review
Randomly stopped here to grab a bite to eat and it was so delicious! We ordered a Hamburger and a BLTA. Fresh tomatoes, avocado, and lettuce on the hamburger. Really cute seating and environment on the back patio.
Kydee J — Google review
Our server Sebastian was great! Delicious food! We appreciated that the menu labeled allergens in each plate. Pumpkin risotto fall special was amazing!
Rachel W — Google review
Delicious food but the prices don't match the atmosphere or wait staff. 4 people (2 appetizers and 4 entrees, and 4 plain waters) just over $200. Doubt we'll be going back but I'm glad we tried it.
Sparky — Google review
It was a perfect night at NOVO for our last day on our SLO vacation. Food was delicious and we really loved the ambiance at lanai( patio) table. Our server was great and definitely we’ll be back here next time we are in SLO. Thank you for the wonderful evening!

Luna Red is a trendy restaurant located in downtown San Luis Obispo, offering a unique dining experience with regular live music and a vibrant atmosphere. The eatery features a cozy dining room and an energetic outdoor patio overlooking the Mission Plaza. Luna Red serves globally-inspired tapas, craft cocktails, and an award-winning wine list. On Friday and Saturday nights, it transforms into Luna Noche, offering late-night entertainment with DJs and dancing.
No time to visit Spain? No problem! Just stop by Luna Red for some tapas and Sangria or maybe some delicious seafood paella! The service there is exceptional and you’ll be greeted with a smile! The bar is ready to mix you any magical cocktail you can dream of and enjoy while you enjoy the creek view below from either indoor view or outside on their expansive patio. Located next to the SLO mission and nestled into the heart of the downtown shopping area, it’s a must for your lunch or dinner dining experience! And, it’s important to note: I’m HIGHLY GLUTEN INTOLERANT and they were more than happy, willing, and able to not only meet but EXCEED any/all of my dietary requirements/needs!! 😍

We came with high expectations, as this place is almost unanimously recommended in every guide about the town. We ordered the highly praised Spanish seafood saffron rice. However, perhaps due to how it was seasoned, the rice itself was a bit too salty, which overpowered the natural flavors of the seafood and the aroma of the saffron. That said, my friends mentioned that when they had seafood paella in Spain, it was also extremely salty—so it might just be that I’m not used to the traditional Spanish flavor profile. The service here was good, and the tacos were tasty too. It’s just that the seafood rice, which we made a special trip for, ended up being a real letdown.

I must start by saying our server Katie was outstanding. I have been in customer service since I was 12 and have worked as a waitress, at an elite and high end clothing store and a nurse for 42 years in total and feel I know a lot about what excellent customer service should be (and I rarely see it in the world today). Katie exemplified it. She has a wonderful way of talking to customers and executing. That she reassured me if the (seafood) paella was too salty (as two reviews said) they would "make it right" was all I needed to hear to order it. And it was the best paella I have ever had. I am a first generation American who comes from a long line of amazing Italian cooks and a very good cook myself so I think I am a good one to judge. Thank you so much. We will be back!

Excellent dining experience! Extra ⭐️ for the service. We (3) tried them out for late lunch, which turned out to be an early dinner.😁 The place was almost full, so got a high-seating table inside, which we really liked. We ordered the Del Mar Paella right away before placing order for other items— freshly made Paella takes some time to cook. We ordered their Tuna Ceviche and Gambas Al Ajillo (shrimp) per server’s recommendation. Both small plate items were absolutely delicious. Special mention for their homemade taco chips. One of us tried their Paper Plane cocktail, and liked it. Paella arrived just as we were finishing the small plates. We had opted for the saffron rice instead of squid ink rice. The Paella was one of the best we have tried out across many places. Portion size and amount of meat was generous. It was good as a late nite snack even without reheating.😊 Nice place to revisit during our next trip to SLO,

Luna Red is one of the restaurants that has earned my respect. It is a restaurant that contributes to society and the community. During the pandemic, it unified other businesses to overcome difficult situations. After the Hawaii wildfires, it launched a donation campaign. It helped LA wildfire victims through a fundraiser. When the city wanted to increase the parking fees, this restaurant secured the best deals for residents in SLO. I recommend the paella dish. Friends who have been to Spain all praised it highly. We highly recommend Taco Tuesday. We especially like the fish tacos. Each taco has a large piece of fresh fish and fresh-grown vegetables. They are very tasty. There a weekly special deals that are also very good. If you are craving a good chocolate dessert then we endorse the chocolate mousse. It is a beautifully presented cake with rich and deep-flavored chocolate. The bottom has a moist and tender crumb texture that gives it an elegant texture. Overall, Luna Red is an outstanding restaurant with great quality food. The server team is very attentive and knowledgeable. Last, I want to give a special thanks to this amazing restaurant that helped the community with your kindness and generosity without hesitation. This is a wonderful and valuable asset to the community and the residents in SLO.

UPDATE Oct 20 '25: Management did respond to my initial review (below). I reached out to them, and they seemed truly concerned to figure out what went wrong on that day, at that time, which I appreciate, hence the update. They encouraged me to give them another try. We stopped by the next time we were in town and had a nice meal. Service was prompt upon seating, and checked on us appropriately. Food was delicious (marinated olives, escabeche, sardines toast, salmon tacos, margarita flight). Original Review (Sept. '25): We made a reservation for brunch. Got seated, and waited 10 mins for service. Nobody came to our table. Between the 2 waitresses we could see working, they walked by our table 7 times without an acknowledgement. Didn't say "we'll be right with you" or anything. They weren't busy, but I guess they didn't want our business.

The outdoor vibes were so lovely for an intimate fun dinner. Lights, heat lamps, and red chairs! The service was great. We ended up with four tapas to share. Brussels sprouts - so GOOD Ribs - bit spicy pretty yummy Ceviche halibut - maybe should have gotten the tuna instead Bravas - great seasoning! Drinks fun!!
Vanessa C — Google review
Had an excellent lunch experience at Luna today. Service was great from start to finish. They have plenty of vegan/vegetarian and gluten free options. We chose the cauliflower tacos and paella. Both were exceedingly delicious. Ambience is fun with sunny colors. Highly recommend this place!

Goshi | Japanese Restaurant

Japanese restaurant
Sushi restaurant
Nestled in the vibrant downtown of San Luis Obispo, Goshi Japanese Restaurant is a lively destination that captures the essence of authentic Japanese cuisine. With its minimalist decor and inviting ambiance, this eatery offers an impressive array of dishes crafted by skilled chefs. Diners can indulge in handmade sushi, sashimi, and specialty rolls alongside traditional favorites like tempura and fried rice. Signature offerings such as Fresh Water Eel and Teriyaki Salmon highlight the restaurant's commitment to quality ingredients.
The best genuine sushi outside of Tokyo. I traveled for years to Japan for business and this little place in the heart of San Luis Obispo in what used to be the creamery is the best of the best. Chef is son of original family straight from Japan. Expect a long wait to get seated but well worth the wait. Main fresh wild fish from Japan. Enjoy!
R M — Google review
Located in the Creamery Marketplace in downtown San Luis Obispo, the restaurant evokes the intimate, small, and bustling atmosphere of a Japanese eatery, all while delivering delicious food. I went for lunch, and all the lunch specials came with two sides and miso soup. The Chirashi bowl was probably the best I've ever had, packed with various kinds of fish—including roe, scallops, salmon, unagi, hamachi, white fish, and tuna—all over a bed of seasoned rice. The frosty cold mugs for beer were a nice touch too! It appears they've extended into the back to fit more tables right by the kitchen, which, to me, enhanced the local Japanese vibe even more. The restaurant gets very busy, so I recommend making a reservation. They do accept walk-ins on a first-come, first-served basis. Great service from Jazleen and all the staff. Parking is limited, with a very small lot available, as well as paid street and lot parking nearby
Erin K — Google review
The Sushi was fantastic, I'm impressed! The atmosphere was a little small town sushi joint, but the food was excellent. Took us awhile to find it, it's hidden in a food hall so parking is tricky. Our fav was the toro tuna. Worth a visit!
David S — Google review
I am ruined forever. I've eaten Sushi in a lot of places. This was hands down my best experience from start to finish. Amazing. Everything was delicious, and portions were great for the price. Reserve a table early.

Unreal how good my Kaisen Chirashi Bowl was. Highly recommend the spot. Twas truly outstanding.
Gnome C — Google review
I came here twice. March 2022 and May 2024. The quality remains the same. I love their fish variety and mostly came from Japan. It tastes like fishes in Japan. It makes my heart happy and warm. The chef held high standards of his food. It’s my honor to taste his food. This is a destination spot for me. I make a point to come to central CA so I can eat here. Treasure your opportunities to dine here. Peace 🤟 If they have live shrimp, it’s a must have. They dried the head afterwards. A5 beef sushi is solid!! Order omakase sushi too.
Annie L — Google review
Goshi is an excellent sushi restaurant. I have been to many and the quality here always impresses me. It is a little more expensive than some other places, but it is worth it. The service is great as well. I love coming here for special occasions.
Zach R — Google review
The food is excellent with great service. Its alway the quality of the ingredients which really is highlighted in every bite! The atmosphere is very nice with table views of the creek. I always prefer the traditional Japanese dishes like sushi or sashimi and rolls with one excellent ingredient and the ingredients in all cases were excellent. Uni was expensive but my favorite and was very tasty and fresh. Don't miss the dessert and my favorite was tempura persimmon with vanilla ice cream. Service was attentive and pleasant. I was happy I could use my limited Japanese. Will make this a regular stop when in SLO.

High St Market and Deli is a delightful gem that excels in providing an exceptional sandwich experience. From the moment you step inside, the aroma of freshly baked bread and quality ingredients welcomes you, setting the stage for a satisfying meal. The deli’s ambiance is warm and inviting, making it the perfect spot for a quick lunch or a leisurely bite. The sandwich selection is impressive, showcasing a diverse range of flavors that cater to all palates. One standout option is the classic Reuben, featuring tender slices of corned beef piled high with tangy sauerkraut, melted Swiss cheese, and a generous spread of creamy Russian dressing on perfectly toasted rye. Each bite is a harmonious blend of flavors that leaves you craving more. For those looking for something lighter, the turkey avocado sandwich is a must-try. Loaded with fresh, lean turkey, creamy avocado, crisp lettuce, and ripe tomatoes, it offers a refreshing contrast that doesn't skimp on taste. The house-made spreads add an extra layer of flavor that elevates even the simplest combinations. Service at High St Market and Deli is friendly and efficient, with staff who are knowledgeable about the menu and eager to make recommendations based on your preferences. Whether you’re grabbing lunch on-the-go or enjoying a meal at one of their cozy tables, you’ll leave satisfied and ready to return. Overall, High St Market and Deli is not just a place to grab a sandwich; it’s an experience that celebrates quality ingredients and great service. Highly recommended!

I can see why everyone raves about this shop. It lives up to its hype! It can get pretty busy, and you may do with a little wait but don’t fret, it’s so worth it. I love how you get to customize your own sandwich. You get what you love. It’s all made with high quality ingredients you can taste and see. They offer great drinks/and sides as well to pair. If I lived closer, I would be here once a week, no doubt.
Aaron T — Google review
This travel pitstop was a delightful place for sandwiches. The service was friendly, the atmosphere was unique. Banking on its location on High Street and the name, this cute eatery gives very northern California vibes with its craft beers and cheeky decir. This place is really popular and we went right in the middle of lunch time, so we waited almost an hour for our order. We got a special blueberry jam inspired sandwich, a turkey loaded with avocado and jalapenos, as well as a loaded pastrami. All the sandwiches were yummy and we continued our trip happy and satisfied.
Tia N — Google review
One of the best sandwiches I’ve had. All ingredients were super fresh especially the Dutch crunch bread.
Michael F — Google review
This place is an institution for a reason!! Unbeatable sandwiches! Super fresh & delicious, always stacked tall. And don't sleep on the macaroni salad! I'm not usually a fan of the mac, but it is killer here!
Renee R — Google review
Best quality deli sandwiches i’ve ever had was here. Every time i’m around SLO, I will make my way here to grab their delicious sandwiches. Turkey pesto, the one with prosciutto and roast beef is really good! Highly worth the drive! Nice cozy seating options too.
Arya K — Google review
Fun, cute vibe with a lot of cute seating options! Super busy when I went, but they moved through the orders quickly so I didn't wait long for my meal. Staff was extremely warm and welcoming. They sandwich was good with highly quality ingredients, but for some reason dripping watery mayo which was off putting (spring club) and made the meal pretty messy. Would definitely go back and try a different sandwich

Italian restaurant
Giuseppe's Cucina Rustica is a charming Italian restaurant located in downtown San Luis Obispo, offering a delightful selection of authentic Italian dishes. The restaurant takes pride in using fresh ingredients from their own family farm and locally owned farms, ensuring that every meal is of the highest quality. Guests can indulge in wood-fired pizzas and housemade pasta dishes prepared in an Italy-imported wood-burning oven.
This is one of my new favorite spots. The atmosphere was lovely. We sat on the back patio and it had a complete Italian vibe. The bruschetta was very delicious. The glaze topped it off perfectly. My ravioli was good. I won't say great because the edges were hard. As if they were dried out. The sauce was very good. The creme brulee was delicious. My friend had a panini and he was in love with it. The bread, olive oil and garlic was incredibly good! You should definitely try this place.
Jessica L — Google review
This was my first time here, and we came because my cousin—who lives nearby for school—has been raving about it. We decided to visit while in town, and I’m so glad we did! We were greeted right when we walked in, and even though it was busy, we were seated in less than 10 minutes. The servers were incredibly attentive and the service was top-notch throughout our visit. I really appreciated that they offer gluten-free options for both pizza and pasta, which is a huge plus for me. We started with a few appetizers. While I couldn’t try the calamari since it was breaded and I can’t have gluten, we also ordered the meatballs on the side—and those were absolutely delicious! For the main course, we shared a gluten-free Margherita pizza at the table, and it was fantastic. I ordered the gluten-free carbonara pasta for myself, but unfortunately, I wouldn’t get it again. The sauce was way too thick, and it reminded me more of mac and cheese than a traditional carbonara. There wasn’t much bacon, so it felt like an overpriced dish that didn’t quite hit the mark. Aside from that, everything else was wonderful. The ambiance is perfect for a date night, birthday dinner, or any celebration. The restaurant is clean, spacious, and has a romantic, cozy vibe. Overall, a great experience—with just one dish that missed the mark.
Belem R — Google review
We just came back from a visit to SLO. We visited Giuseppe’s 3 times during our stay. They are the best! The dinner menu offers a grand assortment of fresh delicious food, but lunch is an awesome treat as well. We sat at the bar and had the pleasure of meeting Dawsyn who worked the bar. He was so kind, helpful and he further enhanced our experience. We had a fabulous Italian Hero that was made on the freshest most delicious bread. They make all of their own bread and it shows! We accompanied that with a wonderful slice of Sicilian pepperoni pizza. Pure delight! Derrick is a super manager and he made sure we were well taken care of. He recommended the mud pie to celebrate our anniversary! WOW! Thank you Dawsyn and Derrick!

Giuseppe’s is FANTASTIC! Our server was awesome, the food was wonderful, and the atmosphere is fun. What more could you want. We both enjoyed our lunch - the burrata stuffed ravioli and the Giuseppe tortellini were both out of this world. Go eat! You’ll thank me later.

Love this place! I visited for the first time on my birthday, and it was absolutely delicious. I love Italian food, and when I was in town, a friend recommended this spot — needless to say, I'll definitely be visiting again! Not only was the food amazing, but the staff was also incredibly kind and happy to explain anything we had questions about. Our waiter was so friendly, and the service was a 10/10. I even received a birthday gelato, which was so incredibly delicious! Great food, great prices, and an even better experience. I can't wait to go back!

A must try if you’re in the SLO area. Every time we are visiting we make a stop to get dinner here. Authentic Italian, great cozy atmosphere, and great service. Dress up as fancy as you’d like or casual. They also have a bar you can eat at and beat the line sometimes for a more casual dinner. There is a line on weekends so be prepared.

Firestone Grill

Restaurant
Firestone Grill is a beloved American grill located in San Luis Obispo, renowned for its meat-centric menu that features mouthwatering steak sandwiches, juicy burgers, and tender ribs. This iconic spot has been serving up delicious Santa Maria-style barbecue since 1995 and has become a go-to destination for both locals and visitors alike. The highlight of the menu is undoubtedly the tri-tip sandwich, which boasts perfectly grilled beef nestled in a soft yet crispy French roll—an absolute must-try!
It’s a good value for money place but the food is not amazing on the grand scheme of things. The pork ribs were fairly good but not as tender and the meat was not easily separating from the bone. The ribs definitely should have been cooked for longer. The taste was close to the plain ribs though if you take the sauce on the side which allows you to enjoy the mean flavour. The Caesar salad was a good side and the portion was large. The prices are lower than in a nicer barbecue place. The service was okay but borderline rude at the counter. This place works a bit later than some other places so it definitely has a competitive advantage. I can recommend it if you are on a budget or are super hungry and don’t mind a bit simpler food - the value for money is really good
Alexey S — Google review
Firestone Grill is always solid. This time I got a Chicken Caesar Salad. It was pretty good the chicken was super tender and marinated for a really good flavor my only critique is it had too much dressing on it… I think that’s my fault though I know I don’t like a lot of dressing on my salads and didn’t order the dressing on the side. I will let them keep their 5 star review as I have been coming here forever and it’s always a good experience. I’ll get a tri tip sandwich usually. Their ribs are pretty good too. Overall I’d say for the price this is a solid choice not overly high quality / artisan type specialty stuff just a good solid choice with something for everyone. It smells really good when you walk in too. Smells like “home”.
Mark F — Google review
A great place to relax with family and friends, as the entire group faces the challenge of finishing a humongous basket of perfectly prepared, seasoned French Fries, second only to the TriTip sandwich, cooked to your taste, and seasoned like no other place I've found. The outdoor patio area offers a fun, lively alternative to the typical indoor sports bar vibe, generosity outfitted with flat screens at every angle. The overall atmosphere is energetic accompanied by great food and of course, laughter. Nestled on a fabulous corner location - spacious enough that you feel tucked away from the hustle, but still close enough to soak in the glow of the city lights and the energy of the neighborhood. From your porch covered tabled, you can enjoy both the comfort of your own space and the charm of the small city vibe rolling by outside. Always a great time, whatever you're in the mood for
Danelle L — Google review
This is a lively place. It's busy, but it was easy to find a table. Also, don't let long line(s) fool you. It actually moves very quickly. The food is great, and the service was fantastic. We ordered The Pig (pulled pork sandwich) and The Jalapeño Burger. Both were very tasty and delicious. The basket of onion rings is more than enough for two to share. There are plenty of sports to watch and the bar is great. We'll definitely be coming back when we travel through SLO.
Danny B — Google review
I think you’ll agree 1000% here. Firestone is a well-known and popular restaurant. There is usually a long queue in downtown SLO but it is worth the wait. The tri-tip sandwich is the signature item of this place. If you go here you must have this item and you can’t miss out on it. Because you should try it at least once. My husband and I like the half rack of ribs combo. It’s delicious and very satisfying. Their salads are great too with large portions. The lettuce is crispy and recently harvested which is so fresh. The best part is that this restaurant is inexpensive with excellent quality food. The crew is very friendly and helpful. The feeling of ambiance is nice with a leisurely and relaxing atmosphere that is very enjoyable.
Ann C — Google review
Fun spot with a lively vibe and big portions. We tried the tri-tip sandwich and the pork rib meal—both had great smoky flavor but were a bit on the dry side. Not a dealbreaker, but worth noting. The highlights were the giant basket of fries and onion rings—crispy, hot, and perfect for sharing. The Southwestern and Tri-Tip Cobb salads were also fresh, large portioned, and satisfying. Service was fast despite the long line, and the outdoor seating made for a nice, relaxed experience. Still a great stop if you’re in SLO and craving BBQ, just don’t expect melt-in-your-mouth meats every time.
David H — Google review
Quirky American food. That’s all. First, the negatives. This might be a personal thing, but I do not enjoy the atmosphere of this place at all. It was way too hectic, with disorganized lines and almost no open tables. The ordering system, the seating arrangements, the dishes and utensils, the lack of cleanliness and comfort, it all felt reminiscent of a cafeteria rather than a restaurant. Even with my disdain for the chaotic atmosphere, I enjoyed the food. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a hot dog done this way. Nothing to write home about, but it’s worth trying if you are truly interested. The price is also good. This place seems to be so popular for a reason. Overall, I think Firestone was a one-time thing for my vacation in SLO, and I hope it stays that way. 3/5.
Hana E — Google review
You cannot go wrong with Firestone. Their trip tip sandwiches are amazing. My husband and I like to get a sandwich, a salad and a side of fries and it is the best combo for lunch. We often come here for lunch. Service is quick and easy. To my surprise their salads are so fresh and veggies are so crisp we really enjoy them. Highly recommend giving this place a try!

Ox and Anchor

Steak house
Ox and Anchor is a modern take on an old-school steakhouse located in downtown SLO. The restaurant offers classic dishes with a contemporary twist, such as oysters, shrimp cocktail, tartare, bone marrow, loaded baked potatoes, and creamed spinach. With a selection of eight cuts of meat including pork chops, lamb, or lobster and four in-house sauces to choose from, guests can create their ideal meal. The atmosphere is upscale and perfect for special occasions.
I celebrated my birthday dinner at Ox + Anchor last night, and the experience was nothing short of spectacular. From the moment we sat down, everything felt elevated, yet welcoming. The cocktails crafted by Dominic were perfection, and Jason provided impeccable service (and bonus points for his amazing hair!). The food is easily in my top 5 meals ever. I first discovered their goat cheese croquettes at a recent mixer and had no idea they were a regular menu item! I’m so happy I can order them anytime. The Ox + Anchor egg rolls were wildly flavorful, and that sweet chili sauce? I could drink it. My only regret was not ordering the bone marrow tater tots (next time, it’s happening). The potato purée was unbelievably smooth and rich, and the crispy polenta was golden on the outside, creamy on the inside. Just pure comfort with a touch of sophistication. The mac & cheese struck the perfect balance: nostalgic, cheesy goodness but leveled up. Oh and the Brussels sprouts—the best I’ve ever had! They were perfectly crisp with bright hits from the pickled red onions. We were recommended the flat iron steak by not one, not two, but three staff members, and they were absolutely right, it did not disappoint. Just when I thought the night couldn’t get any better, the baked Alaska arrived in a full tableside fireworks show. It was theatrical, decadent, and the perfect finale to an unforgettable evening. Ox + Anchor, thank you for making my birthday dinner truly exceptional. I can’t wait to come back.

We had a fantastic dinner at Ox + Anchor! The Sichuan Pork Dumplings were tasty, though I found myself missing that bold punch I usually expect from traditional pork dumplings. That said, the Ox + Anchor Eggrolls more than made up for it—absolutely excellent! For mains, both the 12oz Bacon + Blue Ribeye and the Prime New York were cooked to perfection—tender, flavorful, and just right. The real surprise star for me was the Yukon Gold Puree… soft, creamy, and indulgent. Honestly, I’m not sure I can go back to regular mashed potatoes again! 😄 The Roasted Brussels Sprouts were a bit too charred for my liking, so I’d probably skip them next time, but that was a small detail in an otherwise great meal. To top it all off, our server surprised me with an amazing Mud Pie dessert for my birthday—such a thoughtful touch! Overall, a memorable dining experience with great service, and we’ll definitely be back!

Our experience at Ox and Anker was nothing short of exceptional. The food was phenomenal—every course was prepared with incredible flavor, attention to detail, and presentation that showed true craftsmanship. Just as impressive was the customer service, which went above and beyond. The staff was warm, attentive, and made us feel genuinely valued, taking care of us in ways that far exceeded our expectations. We ended up spending nearly three hours at the table, not because we had to, but because we wanted to—savoring both the meal and the atmosphere without ever feeling rushed. Overall an unforgettable dining experience. We look forward to celebrating with them again .

This place was insanely good. The service and food is the best in SLO. Came here for my anniversary last night and the waiter knew it was before we even sat down and congratulated us. We ordered the crab cakes, oysters, and pork dumplings as starters and they were phenomenal. Highly recommend the dumplings, it’s a great shareable item and they are perfectly steamed over a delicious soy vinegar sauce. The crab cake was also delicious and they masked their own tartar sauce. For entre I had the hanger steak and my wife had the filet. The tray of complementary sauces was a great touch. The red wine reduction sauce was my favorite. Packed with flavor and it’s so delicious I could drink it. Lastly, they gave us warm towels to freshen up before dessert which was so delightful and they smelled like toasted almonds. The dinner was fantastic and the service was outstanding. Will be back!

Had the most incredible 30th birthday dinner here! Our server Nicole was an absolute delight. Her and the rest of staff assisting her were so kind! She was so pleasant and knowledgeable and want to highlight her warmth! The atmosphere was intimate and welcoming but didn’t feel crowded. The food of course was fantastic. The freshly made focaccia and sourdough were incredible. We ordered egg rolls, dumplings, bone marrow tater tots, truffle fries, Mac&cheese, Brussel sprouts and a variety of steaks were ordered for dinner. We ended dinner with a cake we brought but they gave us pieces of honeycomb chocolate which was such a sweet end to the night. Everything was delightful and I can’t wait until the next time I go!

My husband and I tried Ox + Anchor a few months ago and we LOVED it. We definitely had to come back again to celebrate our anniversary. The service, food, and atmosphere is phenomenal. I totally recommend the Bone marrow tater tots, the Yukon potato purée, Mac and cheese, flat iron steak, the rosemary chicken and the king salmon. EVERYTHING is so good.

⭐☆☆☆☆ – Extremely Disappointed Where to start… We had reservations for 10/18/25 at 7:30 PM and arrived early, around 7:15. The hostess told us it would be just a couple of minutes and that she’d come get us when our table was ready. Ten minutes later, when we went back to check in at 7:26, the same hostess greeted us with a confused “How can I help you?” — which threw us off, considering we had just spoken moments before. Once seated, it took a while before our server came by. We ordered drinks and fries while we waited — the fries were good, and the drink (a Perfect Margarita) was decent. We then ordered two steaks: one medium and one medium-well. Over an hour later, we still hadn’t received our food. At that point, we decided to ask for the check and just leave. The waiter was understanding and comped our drinks and fries, which we appreciated, but the overall experience left a bad taste in our mouths. It genuinely felt like there was some favoritism in who got served — as if locals or regulars took priority. We’re not from the area, and it definitely showed. We’ve had far better service at restaurants charging the same price for a steak. This was especially disappointing because I’ve been looking forward to trying Ox + Anchor since it opened. We drove two hours just to dine there, and sadly, it was one of the most letdown dining experiences we’ve ever had.

My favorite restaurant has fallen from grace. I hope my next visit allows for redemption. Evening started out right, with gracious Ryan getting our drinks and filling our waters. It took a turn downhill when our server Bryan took over. Not the usual service I’m used to , he was all over the place overly energetic and also arrogant. I’ve visited about once a year, my first visit there was a lobster special that night and the duck entree was originally served with polenta, not as a stand alone dish. I had this so I know it’s True. Bryan tried to make it seem in his 4 years of working at Ox and Anchor it’s always been separate. The food arrived and the loaded baked potato was hard, not Al dente as Bryan tried to mansplain how 1, he never really recommends anyone order that dish, and 2, Yukon gold potatoes don’t lend themselves to softer texture, although it’s the same potato used for the purée so obviously they can get soft. The potatoes were just hard, he did offer to swap it out for something else but while doing that continued to make it seem like I was wrong or like it was my fault. That’s just not the way to treat a guest, the rest of the night was awkward fumbled and Bryan was aloof overly energetic and almost erratic at times. Besides the mansplaining and unprofessional behavior, the food and overall dinner were ruined by our server Bryan. I will be requesting my previous server from now on. The tallest gentleman in the room and the best server who provides only the utmost excellent service in alignment with a high end establishment such as Ox and Anchor. Ryan , the gentleman refilling our waters is who I wished was our server. He was providing the level of excellent service I expect from a high end establishment like this. Bryan made us feel like we were at the local Applebees. I contemplated back and forth making a review because I love this restaurant so much, and this experience has lingered with me because it was so below my expectations I left disappointed.

Located in Downtown SLO, Petra Mediterranean Pizza and Grill is a popular spot offering a variety of Mediterranean-inspired dishes. From homemade pita to hand-tossed pizzas with unique flavor profiles, the menu features options like tri-tip shawarma and gyro pizza. Recognized as one of the top 25 pizza spots by USA Today, this restaurant combines Mediterranean cuisine with American influences. The outdoor seating provides a pleasant dining experience, while the gyro and unique pizza toppings are highly recommended by loyal customers.
Large location with a self-order kiosk, lots of drink options, and clearly labeled sauce bar. Lots of vegetarian items, many can be made vegan. Loved the tahini cauliflower!

Food was great. It's cantina style, some seating outside. Self-order kiosk with food service, so yeah, leave a tip for servers. They have a fridge of drinks (many choices) and drinks on tap. The sauce station is great. We liked fresh pita bread. The Baklava piece was bigger than expected. Meats were very tasty and not too dry. Turmeric rice was good, I wish we tried their salad option. We did not try their pizzas but it seemed to be a popular choice. Fairly crowded for dinner.

We really enjoyed the food, service and atmosphere at Petra Mediterranean Pizza and Grill. We had a Greek Feta Pizza, Mediterranean salad with garlic and lemon dressing and drinks. The food was so flavorful, full of Mediterranean flavors, and the price was very reasonable. I highly recommend Petra for your next meal.

The food is amazing 🤤. I had the chicken shawarma plate and it was all so good. The staff is very friendly and the place is clean and cozy. You should definitely try.

Petra was recommended as one of the top halal spots in SLO, and I'm glad I listened. I wasn't too sure what to expect from the outside, but after walking in I was pleasantly surprised by how clean, organized & stylish the interior is. The service was fast & friendly, and after a short wait my BBQ Cilantro Chicken pizza arrived. It was fresh & delicious. The Rosewater Pudding was a sweet way to end the meal. The meal was pretty affordable too. Some notes for Muslim diners. Petra has a rather extensive bar, in case you're wary of alcohol. There is no pork on the menu, but the beef pepperoni & Canadian turkey bacon are not halal. Every other meat is halal though. Overall, I think Petra is a must for anyone (Muslim or not) visiting SLO.

Chicken with Garlic is my fav Petra pizza. Purchased small Petra beer tasting glass. Popular Petra for all ages...kids watch football. Good table service. Parking lot full later Friday afternoon October 24. I had to park down along Higuera Street. MASA presentation with a good Med Tri Tip meal. Delicious pizza, red wine, service by Camille who is my cousin with nearly the same ethnicities on our parent's different sides. Could play Mediterranean music for the atmosphere.

Cauliflower appetizer is outta this world! Excuse the blurry photo 🙊😅 everything on the plate is from Petra, except the tomatoes. We ordered take out and was ready before it was supposed to and everything was amazing, will be going there soon, for sure!
Suzanne — Google review
The last three times I’ve visited Petra I have been jipped in some way, shape, or form. Today my meal was missing both rice and a salad, both of which constitute half of my meal price. At this point, I wouldn’t suggest eating at Petra if you do not like being left unsatisfied and ripped off by some means. It’s quite sad considering I like the food served, however I cannot deny that I’ve given up on providing them business due to the continued lack of attention to what is ordered as well as what the customer paid their own money for. Disappointed and frustrated.

TASTE! craft eatery is a trendy dining spot located in the renovated Brickworks Building in SLO, with an additional location in Paso Robles. This family-owned eatery offers a wide range of unique slider combinations, including beef, fish, and vegetarian options. Their mac n cheese selections are also noteworthy, allowing diners to choose from various cheeses and toppings.
My wife and I recently visited Taste Craft Eatery before a comedy show at the Fremont, and it was a delightful experience from start to finish. Upon entering, we were immediately struck by the warm and inviting atmosphere, complete with charming decor and soft lighting. The moment we sat down, we were serenaded by Whitney Houston's "I Will Always Love You," setting the perfect tone for the evening. The staff was incredibly welcoming and attentive, making our first visit feel special. I opted for the quartet, allowing me to sample four different items from the menu. The shoestring fries were perfectly crispy, and the sliders were nothing short of amazing. My wife chose the pulled pork slider and a chicken sandwich, both of which she thoroughly enjoyed. However, the highlight of our meal was undoubtedly the dessert and the drinks from the bar. The cocktails were expertly crafted, and the dessert was a delightful way to cap off our dining experience. Overall, Taste Craft Eatery exceeded our expectations with its delicious food, fantastic atmosphere, and attentive service. It's a perfect spot for a pre-show meal, and we can't wait to return!

It wasn’t busy when we went, we went on a Saturday night around 8pm. Seating was quick and service staff were friendly. Food was great and the portions were perfect. Lots of outdoor dining even tables with fire pits. Beer was cold and not over priced. Highly recommended for sharing or if you want a small meal. Fig burger was amazing.

Overall the food was incredible. I did a trio with the Cobb salad (delicious!), Fall Flyer (soooo good!!) and the Banh Mi (not with real pork belly, wouldn’t order again). Our waiter was great and we sat outside with 14 people and they served us well! Docking a star for two reasons: no espresso machine?! How does a fancy place that serves brunch only have basic coffee- huge miss. Also, the kids meal: cheese burger was a beef patty with cold shredded cheese on top, not melted, and the Mac and cheese was the same: noodles with shredded cheese on top, not really mixed or melted. I would 100% come back as the menu is so interesting and extensive, each visit would offer something different!
Claire H — Google review
Happened to come across Taste while browsing Yelp and decided to stop in for dinner. The place has a cool vibe—nothing over the top, but definitely not underdone either. You can dress up or keep it casual, which I really appreciate. Food-wise? A bit of a hit and miss, unfortunately. I went with the Trio and ordered the Burger in Paradise, Truffled Up Fries, and Gouda & Chorizo Mac N Cheese. The burger? Solid! The sauce had a great flavor, and the Gouda was a nice touch. The arugula and tomatoes tasted fresh, and the ciabatta bun and meat were cooked perfectly for my taste. The fries? Pleasant surprise! I’m not usually into string fries, but I actually liked these a lot. The truffle wasn’t overpowering, and they came out just right. The Mac N Cheese? Miss. Unfortunately, it lacked flavor. The chorizo felt like an afterthought, and the Gouda didn’t really come through. That said, the noodles were cooked perfectly—just wish the rest delivered. All in all: The service was great, the vibe was on point, and most of the food was well worth the price. This spot is officially on my go-to list.

I love going to Taste. Every time I’ve been there it is delicious, great service, very inviting atmosphere and never too long of a wait. I really enjoy the ability to mix and match items on the menu because you try new things every visit as well as ordering your favorites. The bartenders are top notch, making great cocktails and giving suggestions for dinner. Not to mention they’ll always make you laugh. Their staff is a delight.
D W — Google review
To be quite honest, I don't think this is a family friendly restaurant at all. There's no kids menu and the only thing your kids can really purchase are a side of fries, a tiny side of mac & cheese that really has no flavor according to my daughter and myself or a plain burger now mind you all of those things to cost for just two items would be $17 for your child. My daughter did not like the mac & cheese at all so instead of just charging us for just a side of fries for which I asked they brought out a giant another plate of fries as her second side and continue to charge us $17 for a plate of fries. While my food was really good, I'm not sure if I'll be back. I understand not every restaurant is a family restaurant, but this was a Monday night and there was no one in there. The least they could do is cater to most of the community who does have children and offer something at a discount cost, knowing how expensive kids are and charging $17 for a quote on quote kids meal is a slap in the face. So disappointing.
Jazmyn G — Google review
Overall, this place is nice and the food is quite good. The menu allows you to pick numerous options for one price, depending on how many options you want to eat. In my opinion, the menu is a little busy and could be tidied up a bit to make it a little easier to understand. Overall, the service has always been good and this place is a nice change from the normal chain restaurants. It has a bar in the middle of the restaurant which has seating as well. Bathrooms are clean. The parking lot has ample parking but is fairly narrow to navigate in and out of. Parking is there if you need it. Overall, I would give this place between a 4 and 5 star review. The food is ok, not great. The slider options vary quite a bit and some are better than others. If I were in charge of the menu, I would eliminate quite a few of the options and really try to excel at each of the offering plates on the menu. The one item I thought was exceptional was the garlic fries. These come piping hot and chefs have done an amazing job on creating a great flavor profile with this appetizer. Order this as soon as you sit down and enjoy the fries with your friends over a cold beer, cocktail, wine or soda.

Local favorite! The setting, service and food were perfect!! I had a delicious beet salad with a slider. They brought sparking water upon our request which made the meal even more special. This is a place that is now on my favorites list!!!

Ember Restaurant is a locally focused bistro in Arroyo Grande, founded by Chef Brian Collins. The restaurant offers a unique dining experience with wood-fired pizzas and small plates in a rustic and romantic setting. Inspired by Collins' career in fine dining, the menu features dishes fired from a magical wood-burning oven, including steaks, poultry, pizzas, and desserts.
My wife and I had an incredible dining experience at Ember in Arroyo Grande. From the moment we were seated, our server Megan made us feel completely at home. She was welcoming, attentive, and genuinely warm. It was never awkward when she checked in on us, even mid-bite—she had that perfect timing that made everything feel effortless. We started with the deep-fried quail and the wedge salad with bacon. Both were excellent—my quail was crispy and flavorful, and the wedge salad was fresh, generous, and perfectly balanced with the smoky bacon. For our mains, I had the 14 oz ribeye, cooked to perfection: tender, juicy, and packed with flavor. My wife chose the filet mignon, which was equally impressive. We also tried one of their specialty cocktails, the French 75, and it definitely packed a punch while still being well-balanced and refreshing. To finish off the night, we shared the cherry cheesecake, and it was next-level good. Rich, creamy, and the perfect way to end an already amazing meal. We’ll absolutely be coming back. Ember nails both the food and the experience.

Beautiful restaurant in the SLO area (Arroyo Grande)- and the service staff were friendly, knowledgeable and attentive. Riley was our server and she knew the menu and the flavor profiles like the back of her hand. The appetizers were unique and delicious, the dessert was fantastic. The main show didn’t hit the spot - pizza. Bianco was lacking in flavor and the Pepperoni and peppers tasted pretty basic. Next time, I’ll have to try the mushroom pizza.
BREE K — Google review
Our weekend escape to Pismo Beach led us to Ember, a discovery that exceeded our already high expectations. As seasoned travelers who consistently hunt down exceptional dining and cocktail experiences, particularly around San Francisco, we approached this evening with discerning palates. Ember’s cocktail selection immediately captured our attention. Each drink demonstrated thoughtful craftsmanship, with complex flavor profiles that achieved that elusive perfect balance. The artistry was so compelling that we found ourselves indulging beyond our usual limits, and rightfully so. The culinary experience proved equally impressive. We savored our way through six carefully chosen appetizers before settling on the 50-layer lasagna. While the appetizer selection showcases remarkable creativity and execution, I sense that with expanded attention to their main course offerings, Ember could well find itself in Michelin consideration. Our evening was elevated further by Bill, our server, whose genuine expertise and attentive service transformed good into exceptional. His thoughtful pairing suggestions and intuitive timing created the seamless flow that distinguishes memorable dining from merely satisfying meals. Ember has earned a place on our return list, high praise from two travelers who rarely revisit the same establishment twice.

We found Ember after asking for happy hour recs on the Grover Beach Facebook page, and it did not disappoint! We sat at the bar and had Karissa as our bartender. She was awesome and gave us great food and cocktail recommendations. We tried the happy hour meatballs (a little spicy but super flavorful) and couldn’t pass up the $10 half pizzas. Great little happy hour deal. Skipped dessert this time because we were stuffed, but we’ll definitely be back for a date night to try their dessert food and drink menu.

I love coming to Ember, the service is really great from the host that seats you, the bar tenders, and the servers! We love coming here for special occasions and it’s always so amazing and I LOVE the steak so much and the veggies that it comes with. The appetizers are all delicious and for dessert I would recommend the Toasted Marshmallow Ice Cream Cocoa Cake
Berenice A — Google review
Amazing dining experience. Michael had great energy and was super friendly. My water glass was never empty, the thyme after thyme drink is my new favorite cocktail. The pear ana prosciutto small plate was so delicious, so many incredible flavors just came together so beautifully. We also got the half chicken and the 50 layer lasagna which was the absolute best lasagna ever! The chicken was so juicy and the vegetables were cooked too perfection. Finally we ordered the marshmallow cake for dessert, sounds simple maybe but it was divine!!
Alex B — Google review
Perfectly executed everything. Flavors spot-on, served in large portions and at exactly the right temperature. Service is attentive without being intrusive, and the atmosphere is lively but elevated. Definitely a top spot among the five cities, and should my wallet allow for it, a place I would like to visit again sooner rather than later. One thing: Allow extra time for parking since their parking lot is not large enough to accommodate all their guests on a busy night.
Kevin B — Google review
The food is consistently great at Ember. You’ll get the best steak in the county and a delightful local vibe where the open kitchen staff greet you when you arrive and thank you when you leave. Expect to see a diverse patronage including a local cowboy or 2. Vibrant floor and bar experience and always a friendly service from familiar faces who have been with the restaurant for years. Whilst the prices aren’t at the low end, what you are served for your money is far superior to other restaurants in the area. We love dining at Ember. Walk-ins are pretty easy after 7.30pm and the kitchen is happy to adjust a dish for dietary requirements.

Not much to say, it's a really basic airport. small. The check in person was really nice but the security line was a mess and luggage pick up is also chaotic because it's such a small area and of course everyone is clamoring for their bags.

Great community airport and restaurant. Small, clean, with easy access.

By far the worse airport staff I've ever seen. Its a small airport, and you can tell they have nothing else going on. They dont prioritize "priority" nor value your time. Know going in, that this is not like other airports that give a friendly experience.

Stayed here for almost a week. Nice hotel that's literally build next to small airport - literally adjacent to the runway. They serve coffee until 11am and meals at the restaurant at normal meal times but do close down inbetween. The two Queen rooms were decent for what we needed. We saw some planes take off, including a cargo plane multiple times along with the numerous cesnas

SLO County Airport

Regional airport
Airport
SLO County Airport, located in the Airport District, serves as a gateway to the wine country of San Luis Obispo. Despite being small, it offers quick TSA checks and limited dining options. Travelers recommend arriving an hour before departure due to its size. Long-term parking may cost more than expected but provides a convenient turnaround area. While waiting for flights, visitors can explore nearby attractions like Splash Cafe for delicious clam chowder or enjoy outdoor rest areas before their journey begins.
Really nice small airport. TSA is very nice, we didn't have any lines to wait in. Only 6 gates in one terminal, with indoor and outdoor waiting areas. Pro tip - don't expect full meal food or many snacks or magazines once you're through security, as there is only a grab and go cafe inside. We knew ahead of time and planned for it - we checked our luggage early, and then walked 3 minutes to the adjacent Spirit of San Luis restaurant, which was excellent.

Very small, but seemingly efficient airport. Favorite thing is the breezeway, nice and toasty in the sun, but cool and breezy in the shade, and plenty of both to go around. Food is very expensive and unsatisfying, drinks are ok. Terminal was pretty warm and crowded, while I was here.
Dan K — Google review
This is hands down the best airport experience I’ve ever had. Outdoor area after security, live music, local beers on tap, and the ever-present SBPaws therapy dogs. It is a fantastic way to start your journey.

I love flying in and out of smaller airports. The employees who work here are typically nicer than many others. The outdoor waiting area is very comfortable. However, give yourself plenty of extra time because people triple park when dropping people off.

TSA will ever be TSA (forced to be searched for no appreciable reason, though swiftly and with understansing od course.), but all other staff were hospitable and the port, likely due to it's managable size, was efficient in getting passengers aboard flights. Amenities available were also very much appreciated.
Gwen W — Google review
TSA sucks every time I go through the security check there is an issue. Checking bags for no reason. Extra sensitive machies that are clearly outdated. No issues every when I leave LAX. This time really missed me off. I paid for Precheck and had to take my shoes off. That was gross and I was unprepared for that.

Santa Barbara Airport

Airport
Santa Barbara Airport, also known as Santa Barbara Municipal Airport (SBA), is an art-filled airport located just 8 miles from downtown Santa Barbara. It offers free WiFi and a variety of car rental options. The airport has about 40 daily flights to major hubs such as San Francisco, Los Angeles, Portland, Seattle, and more. Nestled between the Santa Ynez Mountains and the Pacific Ocean, Santa Barbara is a charming Spanish town that attracts bike riders of all levels with its diverse terrain.
Not only do I travel around America a lot, I travel by airplane quite a bit and this Airport was wonderful! From the beginning to the end. Obviously it's a smaller airport which helps but to be honest with you the people (even the TSA agents) were so nice and so helpful! I escorted my wife and daughter to the gate for their flight my wife was very nervous traveling with a 17 month old but everybody being so helpful and friendly made it stress-free getting to the gate. The Southwest team helped with getting on the plane and checking the stroller. Everything just went very smooth, and it made the experience enjoyable for everyone. I will drive out of my way to fly out of this airport when possible. Way to Santa Barbara Airport and Southwest Airlines.

Nice small airport. You'll need to plan on waiting a bit for wheel chair assistance, and the restrooms in the actual terminal are a far distance from gate 1 for someone sitting in wheelchair like me. Staff were kind and professional from ticketing, to wheelchair assistance, and TSA.
Don M — Google review
Worst airport in the US by far. Planes always delayed our cancelled, you always have to walk out on the tarmac even though they have walkways and for the first time ever that I've seen in over 30 years of flying TSA closed all lanes so no one could get to their gate. They didn't care if we missed it flight. I had to call the airline and then the airport itself before one of TSA people decided to come and ask what time my flight was. Once I got through I could hear they were making the last call for my flight so I had to run to the last gate to make it. Nightmare all the way around for such a small small airport which should be so much easier.
