Brandenburg Gate

Historical place
Sights & Landmarks
The Brandenburg Gate is an 18th-century landmark in Berlin, featuring 12 Doric columns topped by a classical goddess statue. It holds great historical significance as a symbol of German reunification and was once off-limits to both West and East Germans during the Cold War era.
It's the most iconic landmark of Berlin and probably the whole of Germany. A great place to stand and think about all the history that has taken place there, and as such it's a popular and lively place to be, especially in the evenings. I visited twice, once in the evening (lady singing protest songs, guys making bubbles for little people to pop, loads of families out and people taking photos) and once at 7am on Sunday morning (I was literally the only person there as the sun was rising); you choose which vibe suits you best!
Jim K — Google review
An absolutely iconic landmark standing here feels like stepping right into history! 🇩🇪 The architecture is breathtaking, especially at sunset when the lights make it glow beautifully. The atmosphere around the gate is lively yet peaceful, with street performers, photographers, and tourists from all over the world. It’s not just a monument it’s a symbol of unity and freedom. Perfect place for amazing photos, evening walks, and soaking in Berlin’s rich culture. Definitely a must-visit in Germany! ✨
Supreme B — Google review
A symbol of German unity and European peace, this site is an essential visit when in Berlin. It serves as a profound reminder of historical events. During our visit, the area was not overly crowded, which was quite pleasant. The sunlight illuminating the monument created a truly beautiful spectacle. The location is readily accessible via any mode of transportation.
J C — Google review
Berlin is a unique city where past and future meet. The Museum Island is extraordinary, and walking along the Berlin Wall remains moving. The city is lively, multicultural, full of art and nightlife. Great international food and convenient transport to get around everywhere.
Klajdi M — Google review
Visited September 2025. This was my first stop after arriving in Berlin. It is a real cool Roman style gate. The details in the design are elegant. This is a good starting point for traveling around the area to see a large number of historical attractions.
Josh H — Google review
It’s a must see in Berlin as it forms the backdrop to so much of Berlin’s history. We arrived just after 9 on a Monday morning before the crowds arrive, but even at 4 in the afternoon there was no problem moving through the area. The U-Bahn has a stop in Unter den Linden within 100 metres of the gate, and the road is generally closed to traffic. There are good interpretive signs about the various architectural and decorative aspects of the structure. The Berlin Wall line lies just to the east of the Gate and can be followed throughout the city. There are a number of eateries in close proximity, from street food to restaurants, as well as other historical locations.
Benjamin H — Google review
Its ok unless you have a great sense of history associated with it. We did have this at second or third hand, thru novels and films about germany, east germany, WW 2, and The Wall. YET, I felt something was missing for that sense of historical gravitas to seep into the consciousness. Perhaps a sound and light show in the evening would help communicate this?
Dhanu N — Google review
This is such a historic place, it is so impressive. We visited two nights while we were on holiday. The first night was really busy the second was quieter. The architectural details are amazing to view. There are some benches close by where you can take a seat and rest.

The East Side Gallery is a preserved graffiti project covering a 1,316m-long remnant of the Berlin Wall in Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg. It celebrates the fall of the wall and features around 100 graffiti paintings by artists from all over the world.
It was amazing to see the Berlin Wall up close, covered in murals that are not just beautiful but also carry powerful messages. For me it had historic moments to things that still feel relevant today. The walk isn’t too long, and every few steps there’s another piece of art that makes you stop and think. Definitely worth visiting.
Nabeel Z — Google review
A little way from the main tourist attractions, it’s a pleasant walk along the river Spree to see the longest remaining part of the Berlin Wall. 1.3 km in length, decorated by over 100 artists with short information boards along the way. Here you get a feel of what a divided city this was. Only the 3.6 m inner wall remains but add the boundary signal fence, 3m border fence and a watchtower every 600 meters to appreciate how separate both sides must have felt.
Linda — Google review
I had to visit this place for my 3 days in Berlin and it didn't disappoint! Iconic to Berlin. Some are a trip and some I didn't get, but if you run into those you can walk right past to a new piece. Information on the artists is listed in front of the artwork. Super cool. I went solo I don't think I would want to go as a group by going solo you can spend time enjoying the parts you like and take it at your own pace.
James Y — Google review
Incredible experience walking through east side gallery. The art is amazing and being able to touch the Berlin Wall is also priceless. The feeling of connection and candy for your eyes with the art. I highly recommend. Touch it, feel it and bring in the moment.
Lilla — Google review
As the history of Berlin is very dictated by the wall that separated it, very good to see it and easy to imagine how it would feel for the people living in the same city but separated from this giand wall. Also i liked that in the park nearby was a lot a people who were chilling, playing and having fun 🌞
Valdrin A — Google review
This East Side Gallery is truly amazing. You need to take your time. So many murals to see and some really make you think. The 9th November 1989 was when the wall came down. There is also a good lot of history of Berlin, once it was divided now there is hope and freedom.
Allan M — Google review
East Side Gallery is an iconic part of Berlin. The murals are colorful, creative, and tell powerful stories about the city’s history. Walking along this remaining stretch of the Berlin Wall is a unique experience. It’s amazing to see how art and history come together in one place. Some parts of the paintings are a bit faded or damaged, which slightly affects the overall impression. Still, it’s definitely worth a visit for anyone interested in history or street art.
Yusuf E — Google review
I really enjoyed looking across at all the art and little tags locals and others had made on the wall, took plenty of photos. One thing that did irritate me slightly was the amount of attention the picture of the two men kissing got was ridiculous, also it was so crowded at this specific picture that it was almost impossible to take a photo of it and even walk past it, people by this specific picture were also very rude pushing others out of the way. It really upsets me because so many of the other pictures barely had any attention when I would argue there were so much nicer than the one stated above

Museum Island

Mentioned on

Island
Sights & Landmarks
Museum Island is a small island located in the Spree River and is home to a collection of five renowned museums.
In the heart of Berlin, Museum Island is a UNESCO World Heritage site that houses five of the city’s most important museums. Ancient artifacts at the Pergamon Museum or classical art at the Alte Nationalgalerie, this island offers a cultural treat.
Ana S — Google review
Impressive architecture, but limited overall experience Museum Island’s building architecture is truly stunning — the classical facades and grand structures are a visual treat and stand out beautifully against the backdrop of Berlin. However, beyond the exterior, I found the overall experience somewhat underwhelming. While Berlin itself offers many architectural marvels and vibrant cultural scenes, Museum Island didn’t feel as engaging or unique as expected. Worth a visit for the architecture alone, but perhaps not a must-see if you’re short on time.
Ashvin K — Google review
Museum Island is one of Berlin’s main cultural attractions, bringing together several important museums in one place. The architecture is impressive, and the area is easy to walk around. I visited in the morning and the colonnade with its garden and sculptures was open and free to enter. It’s a good spot to learn, explore, and spend a few hours.
Hasham Q — Google review
A UNESCO World Heritage Site comprising five major museums on one island. It’s a great place to stroll round and soak up the atmosphere even if you don’t visit a Museum. Lots of building works but still an enjoyable experience.
Linda — Google review
If you want to experience the beauty of Berlin as a tourist, this is the number 1 place to be. The architecture here is unparalleled compared to the other parts of the city. It was also astonishingly clean although it is full of tourists all the time. You will need to be extra cautious in this area. Beware of people who make who sign on a form to support children and then ask for money. Don't fall for them.
Priyanka M — Google review
Just an incredible area to visit the architecture of the buildings is amazing, wide open roads and pavements gives an impression of spaciousness and grandeur

Checkpoint Charlie

Mentioned on
+21 other lists
Historical landmark
Sights & Landmarks
Located in the heart of Berlin, Checkpoint Charlie is a historic landmark that once served as the third checkpoint for immigration control during the Cold War. It separated the Soviet zone from the American sector and was a significant point for political visits and espionage activities. Today, visitors can explore its documentation center to learn about dramatic escapes, the Berlin Tank Crisis, and other historical events. Although it has become somewhat of a tourist attraction with reconstructed elements, it remains a powerful symbol of the Cold War era.
It’s free. You don’t need a tour guide to read to you what’s posted on the walls or make up exaggerated stories that you can google yourself. Unless you are that lazy, then pay someone to hold your hands. There is a long line in front of the US side of check point Charlie. Don’t wait there for a photo. Instead go to the back and you’ll get a better photo of both the US booth and the where the DMZ area and where the East German booth was. Side photos are also amazing. The is one last piece of the Berlin wall on display here next to the museum. You don’t need an entrance fee to the museum to see the wall. Also, there are literally tons of souvenir wall fragments being sold for over $30 each. Probably fake, some concrete and spray paint. I can’t believe how many people were lining up to buy these. They aren’t even works of art. Save your money on good German chocolate instead, made by a chocolate store not sold in a gift shop.
Luke — Google review
They tried to keep everything like in old times, really helps to imagine the atmosphere. But the best value to the place given by the museum, located next to checkpoint. Real life stories and historical facts are displayed in the museum
Sanjar M — Google review
Historic place with a lot of meaning, but quite touristy. The replica guardhouse and signs give you a feel of the Cold War era, and the info boards are interesting. Worth a quick stop, but the surrounding souvenir shops take away some of the atmosphere.
Sahib G — Google review
Not as busy as a thought. Very easy to get to, interesting piece of history. Don't go into the museum nearby, that's a scam. There is a better one down the street at Wilhelmstraße, that's free and has the actual berlin wall preserved with many interesting infographic
Zafri J — Google review
Overrated tourist trap some say however I'll never not visit on a trip to Berlin. We visited on a Saturday morning in October and it was so quiet, I was surprised as usually it's heaving. Got the obligatory photo in the rebuilt checkpoint area. A great learning opportunity for our children who have no idea of the scale of the east/wear divide during the 20th century.
Nicola D — Google review
Went there on a public holiday, the museums were closed however one could easily access and visit the public spaces. The place is walking distance away from other places of tourist importance so should be clubbed along with them. One can also find souvenir shops around with tiny remnants of Berlin wall. A great place that reinforces a strong sense of German resilience and a must visit.
Agam A — Google review
As an American, this was cool to see, but I couldn’t help feel disappointed at how touristy this place has become, and couldn’t really understand the photo opp area that everyone was taking photos in front of. For history, it’s very interesting to see in the museum area next to it has a lot of information but other than that it’s just another tourist attraction.
Emma T — Google review
Historic, but it's become a bit tacky and commercialized unfortunately. Worth visiting if you are nearby, but not worth going a great distance to see. If you do go, be sure to read about the history at some of the exhibits at the intersection.

Reichstag Building

Government office
Sights & Landmarks
The Reichstag Building, a Neo-Renaissance parliament structure, boasts a striking Norman Foster-designed glass dome offering panoramic views of Berlin's government district. Despite enduring damage from fires and air raids in the 20th century, the building has been meticulously restored. Visitors can explore its historical significance, including Soviet graffiti from the Battle of Berlin.
If you do one thing In Berlin, it should definitely be this place! The views are incredible and the architecture of the dome is amazing. I am afraid of heights and I certainly didn’t expect to love it so much, not even a wobble! It strangely feels so safe. Incredible! It’s free to visit but Make sure you book on their website to visit the earlier the better! As we did and you should hear back very quickly. There is security to go through and the lift to the top is not all glass.
S G — Google review
An amazing building to visit when in Berlin. Tickets must be booked well in advance. We booked for breakfast which was delicious with excellent views of Berlin. You cannot get in the restaurant unless you have booked . We were so glad we did . We arrived before our allotted time as it takes time to go through security. Once in you are free to explore the Norman Foster glass dome with 360 degree views of Berlin. It is an impressive structure to top such an iconic building. A real mix of modern and classical architecture with so much history
Christine A — Google review
One of the most famous tourist attractions in Berlin. You need to book online before visiting the building and the dome. Interesting historical building with a modern glass dome. The architecture is impressive, but the visit feels a bit overrated. Long waiting times and security checks make the experience less enjoyable. The view from the dome is nice, but not as spectacular as expected.
Yusuf E — Google review
One of the best things I did whilst in Berlin. From the famous dome you can see across Berlin, allowing you to see uninterrupted sights of the cities best and most famous locations. When you reach the top floor, make sure to pick up a pamphlet on your left. This will show the whole panoramic view from the top of the dome. It points out major sights, including some of the prettiest buildings I’ve ever seen. Once you reach the top, the open air dome with seats around the centre allow you to sit or lay back and relax. For our mad touristy day this made a nice break. I could sit here for hours. I’m confused why it isn’t busy as it was a spectacle every tourist needs to see! Security is tight as this is the main government building in Germany. Many high profile politicians and government officials come here daily. Make sure to bring some IDENTIFICATION if you don’t you will be refused entry! Bags are also searched. One of my favourite parts of my trip! Would recommend to everyone.
R. G — Google review
The sheer size of the structure is simply enormous. When I first saw it, I couldn’t believe my eyes. It’s a marvel to witness how they managed to construct an entire structure and place a modern dome on top. The entrance to the building is well-organized and heavily guarded, which is completely justified. As you ascend to the dome, you can explore the surrounding areas. It’s an incredible experience to walk up the slope of the dome to reach the top. At the base of the dome, you can learn about the building’s history and how the German government has evolved over time. The views are breathtaking, so I highly recommend hiring you to recommend this place to everyone. You will need to make sure to make arrangements ahead of time to visit this place. Ticket is a must and needs to be planned in advance.
Anand — Google review
I first went to the front lawn of the Reichstag and then rode around the Spree to catch a glimpse from across the river. It looked majestic from every direction. Standing there gave me a perspective — life can be cruel, but these monuments have witnessed history, stood the test of time, and still remain strong.
Pushkar — Google review
It’s a beautiful building and it’s free to get inside. There are so people waiting to get inside and too much control. Also, I was waiting a more impressive view, but finally it was ok. It’s a great place to take some pictures.
Efthymia B — Google review
The Reichstag is well worth visiting, especially for the glass dome with its panoramic views of Berlin. Entry is free, but advance online registration is required, and security is strict, so plan some extra time. The visit is well-organized and informative, with a good balance of sightseeing and learning about the German parliament.

Charlottenburg Palace

Sights & Landmarks
Charlottenburg Palace, a stunning Baroque summer residence in Berlin, is a treasure trove of history and art. This grand complex features the Old Palace, New Wing, and the Great Orangery, all set within expansive gardens that showcase exquisite royal landscaping. Visitors can explore its opulent rooms adorned with paintings, tapestries, and porcelain artifacts.
I had a wonderful visit to Charlottenburg Palace in Berlin. The palace itself is absolutely stunning—just like stepping into one of those old-time shows you see on TV, but in real life. The interiors are beautifully preserved, and you really get a feel for the grandeur and history of the place. I spent around 2–3 hours exploring, and it was definitely worth the time. A nice bonus is that you get a discount on the ticket if you have a Berlin Card, which makes the experience even better value. Overall, I highly recommend a visit if you want to experience Berlin’s royal history up close.
Cinc V — Google review
Visited on a Sunday and was fairly quiet. The views are stunning, it was one of the highlights of Berlin. So many detailed rooms to look at and explore. We spent a few hours here.
Random U — Google review
Charlottenburg Palace was one of the most beautiful places that I visited in Berlin. The garden area behind the palace is absolutely breathtaking, the grounds are immaculate. I did tours of both wings of the castle which are rich with history, art and other items that are centuries old. The woman at the entrance to get tickets was extremely rude and unhelpful, however every other staff member inside was lovely and one even helped with the lockers for storing my bag since I didn’t have any change for them.
Aynsley J — Google review
Beautiful grand house and gardens. The displays of silver, the paintings and the ball rooms were spectacular. It’s easy to get to from the S Bahn. Our children were not as interested in some of the exhibits, so bear this in mind. However, the links between Prussia and the New Germany are fascinating. You may wish to visit the Cafe Kudika across the road for a really first class coffee stop rather than the in house cafe.
Toby B — Google review
It’s a very wide palace with grand design of the exterior walls and luxurious interior design. I’m surprised with a lot of collections of art works and porcelains. The garden is marvellous and demonstrates a genuine royal style. There are two entrances. One for the main building and the other for New Wing. Also bear in mind that those rooms and collections should be well protected, be reminded to close the doors of rooms after you enter.
Teki C — Google review
Oh my world. It was stunning especially the new wing. Do not miss that golden and green room at the new wing. It wasn't crowded when we visited so we had the whole place just for us, but your toddler may not enjoy it 😁
Karthic S — Google review
This place is located in the outskirts of the main Berlin city area. Not too difficult to get too if you have access to the u-bahn. The palace is wonderful and you can get the audio guide to visit the old wing. I would highly recommend taking the free audio guide. I would say it was the best audio guide I have had till date. It is very to the point and succinct. There was no long drawn music in the audio and it allowed us to enjoy the rooms without getting into long drawn details about the rooms. The newer wing was okay but the lawn/garden area was nice and a manageable size. The whole sight can be seen 1.5 to 2 hours. I would recommend going here if you are in Berlin. To save time I would recommend buying tickets online. Good to visit in the morning if you want less crowd.
Anand — Google review
You should visit this palace! This place is amazing you can visit a big part of the palace inside and out. There are so many rooms you can visit inside the palace. There are many beautiful collections of portraits, jewellery and dinnerwares. You can walk in palace’s garden for free. Also, won’t forget to see the mausoleum. There are many different types of tickets but personally I introduce you the full one. It costs 19€ per person and 14€ for students. Personally I introduce you to take the full ticket for a full experience. There is no time limit in the tour to the palace.

Berlin Cathedral

Mentioned on
19 lists
Cathedral
Sights & Landmarks
Berlin Cathedral, also known as Berliner Dom, is a majestic 1800s structure located on Museum Island near Lustgarten. It features a towering 75-meter-high dome and houses an organ with an impressive 7,269 pipes. The cathedral encompasses the Parish Church, Baptismal and Nuptial Church, and Memorial Church within its New Baroque design. Visitors can admire the Imperial Staircase adorned with bronze cornices and paintings by Albert Hertel from 1905.
We went on a very warm and sunny day. You have to leave backpacks in a locker (you need 1 euro coins which you get back when you return). We managed to get the last open locker as it was a busy day. Going into the cathedral you are met with a quiet and serene space with some fantastic murals and carvings on the huge dome. We spent 15-20 minutes just gazing around and admiring the huge organ (they have specific times when it's played but not when we had visited). You can then climb up 267 steps which starts very normal and wide and then later becomes narrow and winding metal stairs. There are places to stop and catch your breath but there are warnings everywhere that you have to commit once you start and it's not a trivial climb. Once up top you have fantastic views across the entire city and can walk around the entire dome admiring the 360 views. There was enough space to stop, admire the views and take plenty of pictures. As it was a very warm day, the side away from the sun was cooler and hence more busy. Once you have taken in the views you walk back down a different set of stairs (another 250+ steps) to a cafe area. Don't forget to go around the corner and fetch your bags. Overall a great place to learn the history, spend time in quiet contemplations and then get a workout for both your feet and your eyes. Highly recommend the 10 euro or so entrance fee (we bought online). The local area there is full of museums and other sights not to be missed.
Ganesh S — Google review
Very beautiful cathedral. Once you buy your ticket you can enter and walk around inside. You can also walk up approximately 265 steps to gonto the outdoor observation deck. Great, far reaching views of the city. The cathedral has some scaffolding over some parts at this time.
Julie S — Google review
Visited September 2025. You have to pay to enter. They don't take Amex. Price was 10 euros. Stepping inside this church made me think I was in an Italian church. The intricate details are incredible. Many paintings and ornamental features throughout. We made the climb to the top, which was a lot of steps, but you are rewarded with beautiful views of the city. I definitely recommend a visit.
Josh H — Google review
This Cathedral is well worth a visit. There is an entrance fee and then you step inside. Take your time there is so much to admire and take in. The architecture is amazing. You also have the opportunity to climb the stairs for a rooftop view. Something like 280 steps, well worth it for the views. Highly recommended
Allan M — Google review
Bought tickets to see inside the Cathedral. Beautiful place and great way to see the city by waking up the 287 steps to the Dome. Not for the unhealthy or faint hearted as it’s one way up & down! Shame about the graffiti on the staircase walls! But worth the €10 admission
Joey L — Google review
Absolutely magnificent architecture! This photo perfectly captures the grandeur of the Berliner Dom against a beautiful, clear blue sky. The huge central dome and the smaller side domes with their distinctive patina-green copper tops are truly breathtaking. The sheer scale and detailed sculptures on the façade make it one of Berlin's most impressive buildings. Even with a bit of scaffolding visible (which is common for historical maintenance), the majesty of the cathedral shines through. The trees below add a nice touch of nature to the monumental structure. This is a must-see landmark situated right on Museum Island. Be sure to go inside if you have the chance, and don't miss the crypt or the climb to the dome for panoramic views of the city. A true highlight of any Berlin trip!
Anindya C — Google review
Berliner Dom rises above Museum Island with a presence that feels both majestic and welcoming. The cathedral’s grand exterior hints at the splendor inside, where light streams through stained glass and highlights the careful details of the nave. It’s easy to wander from the quiet chapel to the expansive dome area, taking in the fusion of historic architecture and the lives that fill the space with quiet devotion and curiosity.Inside, the atmosphere is serene yet culturally rich. The interior decoration blends ornate craftsmanship with a sense of calm that invites reflection. Standing beneath the dome, or stepping into the Hohenzollern Crypt, offers a tangible sense of Berlin’s layered history—from royal legacies to the city’s modern resilience. The building itself narrates centuries of change, making a visit feel like stepping into a living museum.Visiting logistics are straightforward: the site is well-signposted, with accessible routes from nearby attractions on Museum Island. Audio guides and guided tours can deepen understanding of the cathedral’s construction, restoration efforts, and its role in German religious and national history. If planning a broader day in central Berlin, pairing a cathedral visit with a stroll along the Spree or through the surrounding historic districts enhances the experience.Overall, Berliner Dom is a must-see for lovers of architecture, history, and serene, contemplative spaces. It’s a place where past and present intersect in a way that resonates long after exiting the doors.

The Berlin TV Tower, also known as the Fernsehturm, is an iconic symbol of the city and a popular attraction for tourists. Standing at 368 meters tall, it offers a viewing gallery at 203 meters and a revolving restaurant at 207 meters. Despite its association with the former German Democratic Republic (GDR), it now stands as a symbol of reunified Berlin. Visitors can enjoy a 360-degree panorama of the city from its observation deck, although long queues are common.
Wow it’s a breathtaking view. You can get a tremendous view of the city and beautiful buildings and colourful streets from the top. If you take a view after sunset it’s added beauty with lights . The restaurants is closed in the evening Bus tram is nearby and well connected routes making it easy to reach others parts of the city It’s advisable to booking your tickets early that helps you avoid long queues and crowd. We came during the Festival of Lights. They put on a nice show like they do every year. Really enjoyed this years show. We had great weather which was fantastic. Look forward to going next year again.

A little pricy however you will get the best views across the city, you can see for miles. You go quickly up the elevator to the point where your ears pop on the way up. If you take photos of the views be prepared to alter the white balance as the viewing windows tend to have a green tint. Would be nice to see the views at night.
Random U — Google review
Perfect view on a good day. In my opinion the best time to visit is daytime on a clear day. That's when you get the best overview of the city. After sunset it's too dark and you can't identify the various places in the city. It felt a bit crowded on the viewing terrace though. Too many people due to early closing because of a special arrangement on the day of our visit. The queue to the elevator going down was way too long.
Elisabeth J — Google review
This great structure dominates the Berlin skyline. It can be seen from all over Berlin. It’s a famous landmark of Berlin. I didn’t go to the top due to time restraints and the cost. I couldn’t find anywhere that sold entry tickets for less than €20. It’s also in a reasonably built up area so sights would be limited from most the sides, I would guess. However, saying that there are some incredible buildings nearby that might be nice to see from above. I personally think I would prefer other viewing experiences in Berlin for lower costs(I can’t name them as this is against googles reviewing policies but it might be a certain political building with stellar views). I hear there is a restaurant at the top that friends have recommended. A stable and defining piece of the Berlin skyline that can be seen from throughout the city, however, high prices let this tower down.

You can see the 368m high television tower from almost everywhere in the city. It’s definitely a major tourist attraction and costs a whopping €32,50 to the 203m observation deck. Be prepared to queue for tickets, security and then the lift. There is a small bar area, two uninterested staff and an expensive drinks menu. €24,40 for a beer and a glass of wine were probably the most expensive drinks we had during our entire holiday. However the views are fabulous so it’s worth a visit.

Genuinely my favourite building in all of Berlin and was my favourite place to have gone to! I went on a very foggy rainy day and the view of Berlin from the tower was still amazing! Most iconic building in Berlin and the best one to take photos of and from within!🤩🤩🤩📸

I went up there in 1993. Then it was one of fastest elevators in the world. I have not been up there since however I have seen it and stood in it shadows many times. It is a amazing building in the old east part of Berlin. This area is not my favorite part of Berlin but a must see part if the city if you are in Berlin as a Tourist.

Potsdamer Platz, once a bustling square before World War II, fell into disrepair due to the ravages of war. However, after the fall of the Berlin Wall and the end of the Cold War, it experienced a revival with companies like Sony and Daimler establishing their headquarters there. Additionally, cultural attractions such as the Deutsche Kinemathek museum and Theater am Potsdamer Platz contributed to its rejuvenation.
It's one of my favourite spaces in Berlin. It's modern. It looks into the future. Buildings are astonishing, interesting mix of architectural genres. This place hosts so many events. Berlinale is an annual one where Berlin transforms in a star venue. Very beautiful at night!

Very well organized. You can walk around and you will find malls and other food studios. This is a square and you don’t need tickets for anything

We had a great time visiting the Berlin Wall exhibit near Bahnhof Potsdamer Platz. It was a powerful and educational experience, especially sharing it with the kids. Seeing the actual remnants of the Wall sparked some meaningful conversations about history, freedom, and unity. The displays around the site are very informative, with photos and facts that helped us understand the significance of this area during the Cold War. We learned how Potsdamer Platz was once a desolate “no-man’s land” and is now a vibrant part of the city — such a striking transformation! It’s a quick stop, but packed with history. A great way to introduce kids to this important piece of the past while enjoying all the excitement Berlin has to offer nearby. Highly recommend!

Nobelhart & Schmutzig is a Michelin-starred restaurant located near Checkpoint Charlie, offering an unconventional and innovative dining experience. Led by sommelier Billy Wagner and head chef Micha Schafer, the restaurant's fanatical commitment to sourcing local produce results in a simplistic menu that highlights the purity of flavors. Diners are seated around an open kitchen on a horseshoe-shaped counter, creating an intimate and engaging atmosphere.
Some restaurants really take on the personality of their owners and this is certainly one of those places. I had the pleasure of dining here 3 times. Twice in April 2025 and once in June 2025. All 3 dinners were memorable. The service and hospitality are exceptional. The wine list is a 200 page book that even the most experienced wine connoisseur will find stuff they have never drank. The food is all sourced from the region around Berlin. No lemon, pepper, olive oil, blue fin, Japanese Wagyu etc. eclectic Records play on a turntable at the bar. You can’t take pictures of the food but you can take photos of the records and the wine. I highly recommend coming for the experience. The wine bottles posted are from two separate dinners.

It was hands down the best meal I’ve ever had. Their non-alcoholic beverages were the best I’ve ever had. The staff was friendly, welcoming and incredibly knowledgeable. Watching the kitchen ballet their way to create the food was incredible to witness. The subtle layering of flavors, explode in your mouth. We flew all the way from Canada and we don’t regret it. 10/10. No notes.

This was a gem after a week of trying German food that’s didn’t really suit us. The service was friendly and the staff was perfect. Super knowledgeable and inviting. It has a speakeasy vibe and you are not allowed to take pictures so make sure you are mindful of that. The plates were delicious…however, for some it might not be worth the cost. We spent almost $800 euros but i could definitely say it was one of the best meals I’ve had. Simple but tasty. Dishes were small as they have a pre-set menu but you will like some, and you will hate others. They are German dishes which is what I loved the most since had not tasted a good German dish until then. The atmosphere is quiet, private and very trendy. You can watch the chef’s cooking and the wines are a plus +++

We went here for our wedding anniversary on Saturday evening. Billy and the team are lovely- there’s a contagious passion for the place that all the staff have. The food was delicious- the flavour in the sauces was immense. Would highly recommend. The menu is fixed so I can see how fussy eaters may have an issue but I would recommend that you let the team guide you and be open to try the seasonal and local food. Just make sure you skip lunch before going. :-)

The food, service and atmosphere were all great, creating a wonderful dining experience. Each course was presented in an artistic manner along with an easily understood explanation about the food and how it was prepared. Everything was delicious with the pierogi, the chicken and the deserts being outstanding! Bravo!

Phenomenal meal. All dishes were thoughtfully prepared without being too pretentious/over the top. Add on the drink pairing, and you get a perfect meal. Service was excellent.

Nobelhart & Schmutzig – A Culinary Manifesto in the Heart of Berlin There are restaurants you visit. And then there are restaurants that happen to you. Nobelhart & Schmutzig belongs unequivocally to the latter. What unfolds here is not merely a meal, but an act of radical hospitality—a meticulously choreographed experience that feels equal parts protest, performance, and poetry. And at the center of it all stands Billy Wagner: owner, host, provocateur, and irreplaceable soul of the restaurant. His presence is electric. He doesn't just guide the evening—he charges it with meaning, irreverence, and unmistakable Berlin grit. The food? A masterclass in purity, precision, and purpose. Each dish is built on locally-sourced, hyper-seasonal ingredients, stripped of excess and elevated through techniques of astonishing refinement. There is nothing ornamental—only clarity and conviction. You are not being impressed; you are being told a story. And you are tasting that story with every bite. The wine pairing is an experience unto itself: bold, intelligent, fiercely curated. It's not afraid to challenge your expectations—and that's precisely why it works so brilliantly. I've dined in temples of gastronomy across the world—from Kyoto to San Sebastián, Paris to Copenhagen—and yet, this may be the single most impactful dining experience of my life. It doesn't aim to please. It dares you to feel. And in doing so, it redefines what a restaurant can be. Go. And be ready for everything you thought you knew about fine dining to be undone—beautifully.
George L — Google review
I dined at Nobelhart last night. While the price was about half that of Tim Raue, the savings came at a cost—namely, a significant reduction in courses. The base menu consisted of just four courses, one of which was simply bread and butter… which, as it turns out, you’ll need to fill up on if you want to leave remotely satisfied. I probably consumed more bread than anyone who’s ever walked through those doors because I arrived starving. The strict no-phone, no-photos policy was a bit frustrating, especially as a solo diner—I quickly realized how reliant I’ve become on my phone during these experiences. That said, they did something unusual: at one point, they brought out books, and I ended up 10 pages deep into one. Oddly enough, that part was pretty cool. The staff were fun, friendly, and highly involved—you meet each of them over the course of the night, which adds a nice personal touch. However, I paid an extra €30 for an additional course… and it turned out to be just one pierogi. Yes, really. I’ve dined at dozens of restaurants on the World’s 50 Best list, and unfortunately, Nobelhart will be remembered more for the experience than the food. Unique, yes. Memorable? Sure. But not for the right reasons.

Restaurant Tim Raue is a stylish and retro-inspired eatery that offers aromatic, Asian-inspired cuisine. Helmed by celebrity chef Tim Raue, the restaurant presents a unique approach to Asian food, focusing more on artistry than strict authenticity. The menu features innovative dishes such as octopus with charcoal aioli and yuzu, green curry with marshmallow and coconut, and pikeperch marinated for 12 hours in sangohachi.
I had such a good time! I got invited there as a thank you - never been to such a high end restaurant. I have some restrictions food wise (can't have Milk protein) and I never felt better taken care of and like the staff is really looking out for me. They even called in advance to talk to me about the options and what is possible. Everyone was super attentive and friendly and the atmosphere is warm and relaxed. I loved the food!! Everything was incredibly tasty and there were combinations that just broadened my food horizon. I have no actual comparison on this level, but my company did and they thought the food was outstanding as well. So all over, if you want to do something special, you won't do wrong here ♡

Impeccable hospitality, creative Asian inspired menu, amazing wine cellar!! I had the pleasure of dining at Restaurant Tim Raue, in May 2025. They were extremely accommodating of a reservation made on short notice. They were also very accommodating of my 7 year old son, who’s list of Michelin restaurant experiences is impressive and by no means his first experience. As I stated above the hospitality was world class. The food was exciting, incredibly tasty but approachable, and the wine cellar is incredible. I will definitely go back.

This was truly a memorable dining experience. We ordered both menus and every single course across both the Koi & Traditional menus delivered a panoply of flavor, attention to detail, and top notch service. This is the first time I've dined at a Michelin star restaurant of any designation where every single dish was fantastic. Well worth the trip and experience!

My wife and I were in Berlin for a weekend get away. This was our first 2 star Michelin Restaurant. We had high hopes only to be sorely disappointed. Food: Others said it best, the dishes lack any semblance of balance and flavors. Its either lacking any distinct flavors or is so unbalanced it is difficult to eat. They had a dish that had liquid nitrogen just for show, not sure what it added to the dish. The palate cleanser was a wonderful refreshing dish, light, sweet and refreshing, it was perfect, until you got to the bottom, there was an overpowering jalapeno, spicey flavor. We both couldn't finish our veal cheek and wagyu beef dishes, the concentrated flavor tasted burnt and salty. Take a look at the pictures, they are both small dishes, that's how disappointing it was. Service: Started out so good, she was wonderful and did her best to be welcoming. Then it went down hill, we had a conveyor belt of staff coming through with dishes, water and wine. It was just transactional and most of the staff seemed sad and tired. Decor: This is the first time I went into a high end restaurant to see a wall painting of a Berlin street with black garbage bags. Not sure who thought this would be a good idea. But I am not particularly fond of looking at garbage bags for 4 hrs. Summary: So many better places to spend your money and time as a added bonus, dinner for two was $1,000 with wine and upcharges. No idea what Michelin is thinking, 2 STARS.

Service was excellent! We really felt like royalty. ~10 portions ~4h of lovely experience . Every round, they changed the entire cutlery “set". Somehow only the women waitresses were carrying the heavy trays… :( Food was nice, creative, but no tastes that swept us off our feet. The menu is fixed you can only pick 1 of 2 ver. We shared, so we tasted both. In our opinion, the price is unreasonable compared to what we got.

Excellent meal and service. My waiter Oliver made particular effort to make me feel welcome and chatted as a solo diner. Food excellent, you definitely want to substitute a dish for the langoustine - my favourite course. Apparently it used to be punchier, which I would have liked. Running the marathon tomorrow so opted for the non-alcoholic pairing, which was excellent, probably the best AF pairing I've had. Would never choose an AF wine, especially a red, but the chilled pinot noir was great! As it was busy I was sat downstairs, which was fine but lacked a bit of atmosphere or being able to see the kitchen. They did pre-warn me to be fair to them.

We visited this restaurant recently and, unfortunately, had a very similar experience to another review we read online. The food was far too salty, and the only things we truly enjoyed were the dessert and the bottle of wine we were recommended. Perhaps we chose the wrong menu, but most of the dishes were extremely acidic — lots of pickled ingredients and mustard seeds — which really dominated the flavors. I personally don’t enjoy pickled or mustard-based food, so this style didn’t suit me at all. We also had three different servers during the evening. The two male waiters spoke very quietly and mumbled while presenting the dishes, making it hard to understand what was being said. We had to ask several times for them to repeat themselves, and at some point we simply gave up and read the menu instead. The female waiter, however, was great — clear, professional, and attentive. Overall, we left quite disappointed and wouldn’t recommend this restaurant.

Fine dining restaurant
Cookies Cream is a renowned vegetarian fine-dining restaurant located in an alleyway that was once home to a club called Cookies. The establishment, now known as Crackers, is owned by nightlife mogul Heinz Cookie Gindullis. Despite its unassuming entrance, the restaurant boasts an industrial-chic vibe and friendly service. Chef Stephan Hentschel offers innovative plant-based dishes such as Parmesan dumplings in white truffle broth and surprising desserts like celery ice cream with apple and walnuts.
This hidden gem in the backyard offers a delightful dining experience. The service, atmosphere, and food selection, as well as the quality, are excellent. The welcoming vibe feels like sharing a meal with friends—no unnecessary frills or strict rules. It's truly a memorable event for dinner. Plus, an early-hour booking with a discount adds extra value to the experience.

We had so much fun! I highly recommend the wine pairing. I am sober and was thrilled to see that they had a full non-alcoholic wine pairing (which included many homemade NA wines). It was an absolutely beautiful and delicious dinner. The service was top notch and the atmosphere reminded me of a NY speakeasy as we arrived at the bar. The upstairs dining area was much more vibrant and festive. Everyone seemed to be smiling and enjoying themselves. All of my dinner companions were not vegan/veg but raved about the whole dining experience. Being a vegan and sharing such a lovely experience with them felt amazing. 10/10 will go again!

*5/5 Stars* Cookies Cream exceeded all expectations! The 7-course vegetarian menu was a culinary masterpiece, with innovative dishes that delighted every sense. The wine pairing was exquisite, perfectly complementing each course. Michel, our waiter, was phenomenal - knowledgeable, friendly, and attentive. Highly recommend. It was lovely. A little tricky to find - but follow the alley next to the Westin Hotel. We could only get a reservation at short notice for 4 courses so didn’t get to taste the 7 courses but it was greys nonetheless. Lots of great plant based tastes. Felt wines weren’t that good but still quite decent so perhaps opt for the sommerlier’s wine pairing. Great service with a smile and would like to come back for 7 courses!

We took the five-course menu with wine pairing. To start, we got the onsen egg to share with a cocktail each. The cocktails were nothing special, and even though they might be innovative the tastes just didn’t match the quality of the rest of the meal to be honest. On the other hand, I really recommend the egg (sharing worked out great!), a symphony of textures and just a perfectly balanced palette with simple ingredients. That turned out to be the case for most of the remainder of the menu as well. Nice balance between temperatures, textures, heat, tartness, umami and new innovative flavor combinations. The bread was GREAT. Wine pairing was good, but as the menu was light so was the wines - not my personal taste and there could be more variation here (note, different types of wines but all light). The main component of strawberry dessert was bland. Coffee was incredible!! The wait for the second dish (first of the menu) was quite long. The waiter kept us informed which was good, but still too long. We took a shot together with the waiter on the house with the bill! Nice! (Not everyone got this so we felt special!). Our meal was about €445 total (+tip). We had an amazing night, but there are some minor details I think would be an easy fix for a substantially better experience: - I took sparkling, and my partner still water. I got this small metal slab under my glass so that the waiter could tell who wanted sparkling. However, it stuck to my glass multiple times which once made me spill water. Just not a nice experience. - There should be a small bread plate. The bread is so good that you want to eat it in between meals - or just not place it on the plate etc. There are crumbs on the table and once again - just not a nice experience. - The water was €7.5/person... I really think they should include this (rise prices if necessary!) as it is just not a nice gesture. - The wine is just too cold. There can be no debating of this fact! - Would like some more info about the wine pairing - Would like more info about sourcing and preparation of ingredients

Horváth is an elegant Austrian restaurant located along Kreuzberg's Landwehr Canal in Berlin. It first opened in 2005 and gained its first Michelin star in 2010 when Austrian chef Sebastian Frank joined. In 2015, it was awarded a second Michelin star and a green Michelin star for sustainability.
Truly exceptional experience. The food is gorgeous (which is, at the end of the day, the most important thing). Service is a superb - a mix of quality time with chef/owner Sebastian Frank giving insight into his philosophy and the stories behind the dishes, and an amazingly well informed service brigade (clearly not "just on a script" but with a genuine understanding of how the dishes are prepared). Wine parings are fantastic - and the non-alcoholic pairings look even better (that's what I'm having next time!). Very highly recommended.

If you crave the interesting edge post-war Berlin has to offer, this restaurant is a sure representation of its best. The interior design and staff are all put together masterfully and the experience is like none other; it has an exceptionally beautiful setting with vintage decor and open kitchen. The food is like a breath of fresh air. I have never experienced truly curated vegetarian-inspired cuisine let alone one with 2 Michelin stars but each dish has a captivating story and you really get to appreciate the fresh produce which normally plays supporting roles in meat dishes. Worth a detour and experience. Thanks to the accommodating staff and interesting wine list.

Awesome tasting menu. Mostly vegetables but done in such a flavourful way you won’t miss the meat — it’s used more for seasoning than anything else. One of the few Michelin star restaurants I have returned to — not just twice but three times! The mushroom “fois gras” is particularly spectacular and I hope they never take it off the menu. The head chef is super lovely and comes out to chat to diners, and you get little cards explaining each dish. Brilliant experience, highly recommended!

Absolutely outstanding experience at Horváth! ⭐⭐ The atmosphere is cozy and elegant, with a very unique vibe that makes the evening feel special right from the start. The vegetarian menu was one of the best I’ve ever had—creative, flavorful, and really different from anything else in Berlin. What was meant to be a four-course menu turned into a generous seven courses, with smaller and bigger plates plus sides. The portions were surprisingly generous for fine dining, and every single dish was beautifully balanced. Sebastian and the whole team were incredibly friendly and welcoming, which made the experience even more enjoyable. You can really feel the passion and care they put into both the food and the service. If you’re looking for a truly unique two Michelin-star experience in Berlin, especially as a vegetarian, Horváth is an absolute must. 🌿🍷

Horváth offers an interesting and technically ambitious take on modern vegetarian cuisine, with a clear focus on fermentation and creativity. However, the overall balance of the dishes sometimes feels uneven, which affects the harmony of flavors. The eclectic wine list is intriguing, though the pairings can be challenging for guests without in-depth wine knowledge. The atmosphere is pleasantly relaxed for a two-star Michelin restaurant — no formal dress code needed, as guests ranged from jeans and trainers to sweaters and casual wear.

20.12.24 I think my expectations were too high, so I was a little disappointed. I really enjoyed the creativity, detail, and technique of the food, but the overall food lacked organization and cohesion. I didn't feel like the wine pairings matched the food, but the variety of white, orange, and ice wines was nice. It was vegetarian menu. I didn’t know… 🙂‍↕️ Next time the menu changes, I'll give it a try.

A truly unforgettable dining experience! They offer exquisite dishes bursting with flavor, served in a beautifully ambient setting. The chef and his team are warm, welcoming, and attentive, making you feel completely at ease. Can’t recommend it enough! 🌟🌟🌟

So to put it bluntly, it was over priced and one essentially got, you know that part of the vegetable that you usually throw away or use as a garnish for other dishes. Yeah. That at over 30 euros per plate. The small tasting is 160 euro without wine. The “oxidized salad” was literally a spoiled salad that was both slimy and flavorless. The bread was good but pretty sure they charged us for it … which they kept pushing. The celery root is literally just celery salt. We had to eat somewhere afterwards. If the word subtle is used, then expect flavorless veg. Hey, they’re trying something, but it is not working in my opinion. So if high prices, small portions of overworked vegetables are your thing, then here is your place. The waitstaff were friendly and professional, the atmosphere was nice. But I would take the money elsewhere and go to one of the many other restaurants that can be found in Berlin.

Very delicious. The concept is one price for the chef menu with unlimited refill as soon as you can finish your food. For the price paid very well done. Drinks are nice as well. I recommend to come here in group. But for two people it’s also nice.

I come here every time I am in Berlin. The food is just outstanding! A wide range of vegetarian and vegan dishes with exceptional flavours. My favourite is the brunch on the weekend and the wide selection of starters. The staff is super friendly and the vibe in general is very relaxed. I also had the set evening menu before which is also outstanding. I will definitely come back again.

I loved the food here! It's a wonderful blend of Israeli and Palestinian dishes, all vegetarian (but vegan is possible). The food is served as a fixed menu which came as a relaxing difference to other places I visited. And don't worry about not having enough - we were asked multiple times if we needed more of anything. Additionally, I want to point out their cocktails. They lean on the sweeter side, but can be boozy. I want to point out their Arak mixes as my favorites. It's a smaller place, but bigger groups can be supported. I strongly suggest to reserve in advance. However, same day reservations are possible if your group is small enough (and especially for two). I can't say if this place is good enough for one person, tho. Online they say that coming along could be a problem, but the menus in the restaurant mentioned that you can order for a single person (it just costs more).

This was so delicious! They have a fixed menu, where you get a lot of cold starters in small plates with bread, where you can get refill on what you like. That is followed by two bigger main dishes, and then a dessert. All for 33€ per person. We decided to get some of their cocktails as well, which was known cocktails with a twist - really good! All the dishes were vegetarian and packed so much taste. The staff where really nice and observant. Definitely a great experience and cannot recommend it enough!

We had an amazing Brunch experience at Kanaan. Although we already reached the end of the "brunch time" the super friendly waiter generously offered us to still order the brunch menu - which was just the right choice for us foodies. Loads of delicious dishes were served, although we all were hungry we were unable to finish everything. The biggest recommendation!

Reserve the table before you show up, it’s often fully booked. This place is awesome. The fresh hummus, eggplants babaganough were amazing. Everything had a unique taste, amazing flavours, very friendly service. They explained as usual in most of the menu/ speciality restaurants. It’s worth to visit and enjoy some yummy Israeli - Palestine cuisine.

I came for the concept and stayed for the food. The idea of a Palestinian-Israeli restaurant got my curiosity from the start. The moment that the food arrived at our table brought up the delicious aroma of all the spices and fresh baked bread. The Potatos with Zatar are great. The Stuffed Onions and the Falafels are amazing. But my favorite of all was the Labneh with Roasted Beetroot. Best beetroot I’ve had in my life! The atmosphere is welcoming and the owner (one of the two) was very kind and attentive to the clients. Unfortunately the Brunch Menu is only available during weekends but they do have a shared menu for dinner everyday. I’d definitely come back and recommend this place to anyone visiting or living in Berlin!

Nestled at the crossroads of cultures and convictions, Kanaan is more than just a restaurant—it’s a bold, beating heart of hope. Founded on the unlikely and beautiful collaboration between Israeli and Palestinian partners, this eatery takes a courageous stand: to nourish not just the body, but the soul, with every dish and every gesture infused with a commitment to coexistence, dialogue, and peace. Our visit this time was for brunch, and what a feast it was. this meal was abundant, comforting, and celebratory. Each plate arrived like a small poem written in za’atar, tahini, and warm, fresh-baked bread. Whether it was the shakshuka, the creamy hummus, the labneh kissed with olive oil, or the fragrant sabich—everything was perfectly prepared and full of bold, authentic flavor. The portion sizes were more than generous, making it an excellent choice for sharing. But what truly sets Kanaan apart is its mission. In a time of deep division and conflict, this restaurant dares to defy hatred with hospitality. It offers not just a seat at the table, but a shared space for mutual respect. Dining here feels like taking part in something bigger—a quiet, powerful resistance to cynicism and fear. Kanaan is a testament to what is possible when courage meets creativity. It's rare to find a place where the food is so deeply satisfying and the experience so emotionally resonant. Come hungry—not just for food, but for connection. You’ll leave full in every way that matters.

The atmosphere is described as warm and welcoming, with friendly servers providing incredible service.
I've spent a few summers in Berlin largely looking for the best restaurants, especially those that serve pizza--until now I have not been so moved as to write a review. Food: I had their most basic pie, mostly for comparison's sake but their more signature options and the new collaborative monday menu were both so enticing I can see myself trying every one, and their menu is by no means limited to pizza, in fact it feels misrepresentative to call it a pizza spot. Nonetheless, their sourdough crust is superb, (coming from New York this is especially important to me), their toppings were more flavorful and fresh than the half a dozen other pizzas I had here this month (most of which were about 5 euro more expensive), and the dessert was the best sweet treat I have had in at least a year. Straciatella, topped over with warm chocolate mousse with a sprinkling of roasted hazelnuts (assembled before my eyes)--it tastes even better than it sounds. The wine selection was expansive, the cocktails blanced well between reliable and inventive, and the schnapps were also very well-rounded. Service: At this point it is a bit of a trope for Americans to complain about European restaurant service. Believe me, I am no stranger to the modicum of truth behind this phenomenon. Having just recently had some ludicrous wait-time experiences, I was so impressed by my server and the rest of the staff this evening. I was very promptly accomodated, despite the fact that I had not made a reservation. The only available seating was outside, which is normally a hot commodity in July in Berlin, but it happened to be raining somewhat seriously today so I had little competition (though the awning did its job well)--still they promptly offered me a warm tea, and brought out warm blankets for me in case it got cold. These may seem small, but they are examples/elements of outstanding service that I haven't experienced at any of the more expensive, fine-dining restaurants elsewhere in Berlin that I have patronized, let alone anything at this price-point, which is shockingly low considering the quality. Perhaps my familiarity with NYC prices is part of this, but such outstanding dinner and dessert for under 30 euro is a marvelous discovery. I will be returning here as often as I can manage. I started recommending Estelle to my local friends (and even some back home) halfway through my main course, I expect I will continue to sing its praises even as the memory of dessert fades months from now. Lastly, I do not review many restaurants, and this may seem a sign of inexpertise. I would understand that skepticism, but on the other hand I ate dinner out almost every night for the last month, and (again) nowhere in Berlin sparked such passion, no other dining experience moved me enough to take the time to write a review.

We reserved a table to celebrate our son's first month, choosing a menu for two that cost around 100 euros. The experience lasted 3 hours and 15 minutes, with about 45 minutes of waiting time between courses. The portions were small, and if I hadn't inquired with the waiter, it seems the wait time would have been even longer. Unfortunately, the quality of the food did not meet our expectations, as the dishes lacked flavor and uniqueness. While we appreciated receiving a complimentary beer after raising our concerns about the long wait, it didn't compensate for our overall dissatisfaction with the service and the value of the food. the experience did not live up to what we expected for a special celebration. I wouldn't recommend this place if you're looking for good quality and prompt service.

I was there on a weekend for brunch and it was very well visited. It is definitely more relaxed if you have made a reservation beforehand. The food and service was great!! Even when we were full we had to try the lemon poppy cake and it was worth it - The dessert was really delicious. I can definitely recommend it for brunch and will definitely come back:)

Great atmosphere, setting, presentation but the taste for me just wasn't there. We tried different snacks and starters, two mains and a pizza. There are several vegetarian options but I was really disappointed. The mushrooms were pretty blend and for that price, I was expecting something much more tasty and elaborated. Pizza was great though. Quite a lot of choice in wine but prices are a bit exaggerated (starts at roughly 40e/bottle). Otherwise, service was nice, friendly and fast.

Very good and unique food experience. Would recommend going for the “shared experience”, as it gives you a great value-for-money experience through the entire menu.

We had such a lovely dinner with my spouse. The food was excellent and the staff was very friendly. The pork shoulder with polenta, in particular, was incredibly flavorful and comforting. The portions are generous too. Highly recommended!

We love this restaurant. We will come back for sure. The food was incredible! 💙🫶 Thank you 🤍 the desert was fantastic! Don’t skip it.

Fresh food with friendly and attentive service. We loved the Rhubarb desert and the Roast. We spent around 100 EUR for 2 people. If you can book your table in advance.

Grill Royal is an elegant restaurant located in Berlin, offering stunning views of the river. While it features an international menu, it's particularly renowned for its delectable steaks. The dishes are carefully crafted, such as the seared pork chop with pickled plums and a plum tomato nahm prick condiment that tantalizes the taste buds. Similarly, the turmeric chicken is served with lightly pickled cucumbers and a flavorful jaew dipping sauce.
We dined here for the first time based on recommendations from friends and they were not wrong - what a great place. The service is great, the staff is actually very friendly, and professional throughout. We tried bone in NY strip, ribeyes and filets and all were cooked exactly like we asked for. The menu is great, many options, also on the appetizer side. Book well in advance - this place is popular!

The atmosphere is typical of a classic restaurant in any major city. The decor is not updated or trendy but that is not why the clientele come here. The service is attentive, yet light and not overly serious. The food is delicious. Evidently, the steaks are their best menu items. The presentation is not cutting-edge or modern but the food is well-executed and satisfying.

If you’re looking for a “chic” Berlin dine-out experience, this is the place to go. The staff is exceptional, the food exquisite and the location vibey. You just find all that matters in one place to have a great evening. 10/10 recommend!

Came my last night in Berlin to have a nice dining experience. The food was nice and it was served in good timing. Would reccomend. The only thing is that I came with my partner who speaks German but I don’t and they didn’t adapt.
Charis R — Google review
Very good food (9/10) although I've had better stakes in many places. The service is very slow. As for the atmosphere - the place is very very noisy. You can barley hear the waiter or your partner across the table. Finely, the prices are on the expensive side. (Can't say it Worth it) All and all - don't think I'll return.

My favorite restaurant in town. The most superb meet ever trier in my life. Atmosphere is unique with a beautiful view and the service is very meticulous.

Highly highly recommend this place! I love the food, atmosphere and the level of service is great! I’ll definitely return when I visit Berlin
May O — Google review
A little bit fancy place to go out for dinner, with something for every taste. The food is good, but to be honest, the steak is always a bit over-seared on the outside for my liking—it’s just not my style. However, my friend enjoyed it, so it might depend on personal preference. Still, it’s a nice spot to go out, have a relaxing dinner, and chat with friends.

ORA Restaurant & Wine Bar, located in a converted 19th-century apothecary in Kreuzberg, offers a unique dining experience. The beautifully preserved setting features original wood-and-glass apothecary shelves and antique medicine bottles, creating an atmospheric ambiance. The daily three- to four-course menu showcases inventive dishes using seasonal, sustainable ingredients such as veal tonnato and monkfish with sea urchin.
We went here as the final dinner of an extended weekend in Berlin and I could not have wished for a better experience. We were imediately greeted by the extremely friendly staff and were seated at our table, there is an incredible atmosphere and the theme of the old apothacary realy sets the mood for the evening. The food was simply amazing, the bbq pork in particular. The House cocktails are also very well made and taste great. 10/10 would recommend and visit again

This was a great way to celebrate a birthday. We took the tasting menu for 60€ - the highlight were the Caesar salad & its yummy dressing (look at that cheese on top 🤤), the gnocchis and the mousse au chocolat. The service was great, they delivered all the dishes at a good pace, enough for us to enjoy each course. The cute and original location (being an old pharmacy) was the cherry on top, making us forget about the loudness of the place. Some dishes felt like they could be a bit more sophisticated but overall really worth the price. Also, we had one apéritif drink each, but were hoping for something a bit more unique considering the ingredients mentioned. That being said, I'd definitely come back to taste other drinks and go through that tasting menu again.

Food is created as a perfect set of well balanced menu - just go for the full option and you won’t regret it! Wonderful German Chardonnay. Lovely service. But the just after the food (which is obviously super good and the most important) just make sure you pay attention to the interior… with booking a spot inside, to feel the vibe :) great place!

After dinner the other night, I came back because of the cocktail program. I was impressed during my first visit by the sophistication of classic cocktails such as dry martini or a Manhattan. On my second visit, I wanted to doublecheck that I wasn’t hallucinating. I had sensed correctly during my first visit, The cocktail program is superior. Erin, a Mixologist from Melbourne Australia, does a remarkable job, paying attention to details such as temperature of the glass, temperature of the drink, and sourcing superior ingredients. These were probably the best cocktails I had during my stay in Berlin. If you like great cocktails, beautiful surroundings, delicious snacks, and a super competent mixologist, visit ORA. I had a great time. Congratulations to Erin and the team.

The ambiance is unique as the restaurant is a former Pharmacy shop, and they combined the old shelves and interior design. We went for the tasting menu. All the dishes were delicious but our favorite was the BBQ pork. The negroni is really good

We recently held an intimate event at Ora for a women's community and it was absolutely amazing! Giorgio and the whole team made sure we were well taken care of! The atmosphere is so warm, the drinks immaculate and the food exceptional! We will definitely be coming back! 10/10 experience!

We booked short notice for dinner and directly went from the airport. They had a little space for coats and small luggages, which was really handy! Really good ambiance for dinner and such lovely hosts/hostesses.

I was here for a conference, and after searching online and reading some reviews, we came to this restaurant with colleagues. What can I say... a slightly retro atmosphere that immediately won me over (even more beautiful in person than in the photos), and everything, from the friendly welcome from all the staff to the food, which I found perfect—simple, international cuisine of very high quality—made me feel good all evening. Special mention for the wine list ❤️ Highly recommended!

German restaurant
Zur Letzten Instanz is a historic 2-floor bar and restaurant in Berlin, dating back to 1621. Located in the Nikoleiviertel, it exudes an Old World charm with its wood paneling, simple wooden furniture, and old photographs adorning the walls. The menu pays homage to traditional German cuisine with hearty dishes like Berlin meatballs and pickled herrings.
We showed up without a reservation and were quickly sat at a table upstairs. They were very accommodating with an English menu and the server was bilingual and extremely kind. The food…absolutely perfect. The apple pie was incredible, and made me question every apple pie I’ve ever had before this. If you are in the mood for true German fare, please give this place a chance.

Pleasant discovery! This restaurant had a familiar feeling, being in the oldest restaurant in Berlin. It's like dining in an old house. The staff were kind and helpful. The kitchen closes early, so it's better to book and be on time. It's a very casual restaurant. I went with a small group of friends, and we enjoyed our meal. I recommend the stuffed cabbage leaves with bacon. My plate was light light but still filling. Recommended.

A truly exceptional dining experience. This historic restaurant captures the elegance of old Berlin while offering world-class cuisine. Every dish was beautifully presented and full of flavor, and the service was impeccable from start to finish. Yes, it’s pricey, but absolutely worth it for a special occasion. A timeless classic in the heart of the city.
Tiago C — Google review
Very often these sort of "oldest restaurant" places are a bit of a tourist trap, style over substance. Luckily not here - it's a superb restaurant with a fantastic fine dining twist on trad German favourites albeit with fun and informal service. So pleased we came. Oh, and the feel of the place is wonderfully old fashioned with candles, tiles, and dark wood. Booking recommended - probably essential actually.
Alex M — Google review
We visited Zur Letzten Instanz and ordered the meatballs and the pork knuckle, recommended by our waiter. Both dishes were delicious, especially the pork knuckle, full of flavor and perfectly crispy. For dessert, we had the freshly baked apple pie, which we also loved. Without a doubt, this restaurant is a must-visit in Berlin, full of history since it has been open since 1621. Truly a stop not to be missed!

Konnopke's Imbiss

Snack bar
Konnopke's Imbiss is a legendary snack bar located beneath the U-Bahn tracks in Prenzlauer Berg, Berlin. Since 1930, this mustard-yellow kiosk has been perfecting its renowned currywurst recipe, making it a must-visit for food enthusiasts. The menu features currywurst (including a vegan option), various sausages, fries, potato salad, and beer.
Saw this place on Anthony Bourdain's "No Reservations" and I must say that it has stood the test of time. Definitely worth a visit, even if it is far from many of the main attractions. The wait is worth it! Nice staff as well. Try the currywurst paired with pommes frites and a beer!
Samir J — Google review
One of the most well known and oldest Currywurst place in Berlin, there are many debates which one is the best. 📍Place: it is located at Eberswalder Straße UBahn station, so easily approachable from downtown. It's basically a kiosk which has some outside seats covered from rain, but it's not heated in the winter so dress accordingly. 🍛 Food: we have tired the classic setup, 1 currywurst with fries, ketchup and mayo for €6.9. (2 currywursts would be €10.9). Overall it tasted good, however I would have expected a little more curry flavour overall, the wurst had quite neutral taste. Fries are from frozen potatoes, nothing extra. 👩🏻‍🍳 Service: it's basically an over the counter service from a kiosk, they speak English and explain the menu if it's not clear. You get your food immediately, so it's up to its name.
Viktor L — Google review
A must visit place in Berlin. According to some it's the birthplace of the famous currywhurst. Located under the raised train track in the middle of a working class neighborhood it is an interesting place visit, even if you don't believe the legend. The line was relatively short, service was vast and friendly. The choices are different types of sausage. Some are ready to take, other you need to wait a little bit for. I guess it depends on the popularity. Descent sausages, but nothing that will make you to come back to Berlin to eat it again. In any case it was worth a visit.
Elllen K — Google review
I don’t like this seriously, it is very salty but since this is Germany’s traditional food, I think we tourists should probably give it s try. I like the store’s design I like it open-air. Overall service was friendly.
N R — Google review
Wurst and pommes were delicious but not sure if it’s anything too special, despite the never endung queue. The place is definitely quite a vibe with a sheltered seating area too but the price seems a little too high.
Jie T — Google review
Caveats: I'm not Germanic. But these sausages be good. Ended up getting three. Good atmosphere too, reminded me of Hitchcock's "The Birds." Only open until 1800, so plan for an early wurst.
Maxim B — Google review
Good enough for Anthony Bourdain, good enough for me. Great experience, super currywurst with vegan option and nice range of beers.
Dave B — Google review
Curryworst...sadly Konnopke's is not what it used to be. Now just living off its name and former good reputation, the currywurst is average at best. Not enough curry powder, too much ketchup and the bratwurst was tasteless, probably from being smothered in ketchup. While there's always a queue, it does move quickly and the staff are friendly enough, but frankly it's overpriced and over-rated. Think I'll stick to the Ketwurst at Alain's Snack instead.

Transportation in Berlin

Getting around Berlin can be a little daunting if you’re new here. We can help list some of the major public transportation methods if you don’t want to rely on a car.

Tegel is a district located in the Berlin borough of Reinickendorf, situated along the shores of Lake Tegel. Tours
Berlin Brandenburg Airport, also known as BER, is a modern and sleek airport with convenient transport connections to the city railway and motorway. The airport offers amenities such as sound-proof windows, free Wi-Fi, a pool table, an Airliner Lounge, and a guest kitchen. While some travelers have noted challenges with security screening and limited vegetarian/vegan food options in the food court, others appreciate the clean and streamlined design of the airport.
Had a decent experience at BER Airport. It’s modern, clean, and pretty easy to navigate once you’re inside. Trains to and from the city are super convenient, which made getting there a breeze. That said, the security lines were longer than expected, and things felt a bit understaffed during my visit. If you’re in a rush, it can be a bit frustrating. But overall, it’s a solid airport with good facilities — just plan a little extra time for check-in and security.
Sharanyan S — Google review
First impression. It is very clean and modern. It doesn't look like an airport. The train connections are pretty clear. However, there are a lot of minus. Staff is rude and doesn't speak English. If you don't like your job , go find another job. There are not enough seats to sit down. So you either have to stay up for a long time or sit on the floor and get told off for that. Yes, the water from the toilet is drinkable but... what about hygiene issues. Why would I want to drink the toilet's water? It would be better if there were more visible drinking fountains. Everything is very expensive as in any other airport. Berlin is one of the biggest central cities in Europe. It's a shame to have so many negative comments about the airport.
Ellh C — Google review
Very clean, very modern and well organized aiport. Very easily reached by Sbahn 9, directly from main stations. The food court is quite small in comparison to other aiports but it serves its purpose. Great choices for coffee there and the duty free is excellent. The highlight was the drinking fountains, great addition to an airport and it could definitely use more of those. The best features are the apps, the main BER app and the Smart Depart app are quality and provide all necessary information. Check in and security checks were fast (morning flight/weekday) and the staff were very friendly. Great 1st experience at this new airport.
Sam A — Google review
They claim you have to inspect goods at the customs counter after the security checkpoint and that they work from 5 am. We'll they only have 1 customs desk for all gates possible and it's at A20. After walking 15 mins to get to this gate, completely opposite direction from my gate, I see that they are closed. Called the phone numbers they have listed and they said can you wait 20 minutes. Like I don't have a flight to catch on the other side of the airport. The walk ways are ridiculously long, so be prepared.
Irnes F — Google review
Good Airport. It's new, and well structured. Clean, organised and well connected to public transport and rental car garage. However, the VIP lounge was overcrowded, and I was not allowed in. It is not structured for the amnount of passengers entitled to the lounge. (I was on SkyTeam - not Lufthansa)

Yesterday's experience with security T2 makes me worried of the safety of the public. Absolute lack of knowledge and logical thinking. The security lady with hostile hate in her eyes, detained bag of 1)small toilet freshners and called Bundespolizei. She said "they will deal with you. They stated " You already let her putting those in the bin, it's IATA regulation". I know Dangerous Goods regulation, limited quantity, packaging for PAX aircraft/cargo aircraft. I know very well IATA/ICAO as I work in aviation. SHE REFUSED TO TELL ME HER NAME AND WAS NOT WEARIMG AIRPORT ID.I approached other employees and they stated wearing valid airport ID is absolutely compulsory. I filmed her (without ID ) and I will now be escalating it much further. This is unacceptable. Not a single word "I'm sorry" - but I'm not her parent I cannot re-grow her. But I can take it further and escalate- because without airport ID she should not even TOUCH ME AND MY SUITCASE. Incompetence there is jus dispeakable.

A spacious airport with all services and needs. The duty free section is tidy and gave me a 10% discount on my purchases.
Manal — Google review
My experience at Berlin Airport was quite disappointing. First, the automatic gates at immigration weren’t working, which caused unnecessary delays and long lines. Then I had to wait more than half an hour to get my luggage. For such a large international airport, the level of organization and efficiency was really poor. Update. Waiting time was over 1hr!!!
