The Accademia Carrara Museum is a renowned art destination in Bergamo, Italy, showcasing an impressive collection of works from the 15th to 19th centuries. The museum features masterpieces by celebrated artists such as Pisanello, Botticelli, Bellini, Moroni, Raffaello, Tiepolo and Canaletto. Visitors can explore nearly 2,000 authentic paintings, sculptures and decorative works within the stunning neoclassical building.
Very cute museum! Prior to entering you must put your bags into lockers. Pretty spacious so no problem fitting my bag. Felt very safe, but if you want to be safe you should leave your valuables at home or keep them on you.

We visited the gallery on a Sunday and it wasn't very busy. The staff is very friendly and offers explanations about the museum's tour and the main works of art. There are some interesting paintings by Raphael, Boticelli, Canaletto and other well-known masters, but there are also other spectacular paintings that are less well-known. This gallery is worth a visit if you are in Bergamo.
Maria R — Google review
Spent the best part of a day here, enjoying many wonderful paintings and sculptures There wasn't enough time to see everything in detail but we felt that we'd had our money's worth. There was a restaurant, small cafe and a green space (PwC gardens) open to the public so keep your tickets hand if you go there as you need them to get back into the museum.
Katy P — Google review
Accademia Carrara – calm, elegant, and truly impressive Note: Large bags are not allowed inside, but there’s a secure locker area at the entrance. The lockers are spacious enough to fit a full backpack – I’ve added a photo for reference. Visited without a reservation – tickets were easy to get on site. The gallery is beautifully curated and not too crowded, offering space to enjoy the art in peace. The collection spans from early Renaissance to 19th-century masters, including works by Botticelli, Raphael, Mantegna, and Bellini. Expect mostly paintings, with a few sculptures and decorative pieces. The atmosphere is refined, the lighting is great, and the building itself adds to the experience. Highly recommended if you're into classical art and need a break from tourist noise.
Ivan P — Google review
Beautiful gallery that is definitely worth visiting during your stay in Bergamo.
Michal W — Google review
It was a surprise! The gallery is extremely rich with invaluable exhibits and represents all the art eras. 10/10 fully recommended.

Wonderful art museum for painting lovers. We took cover there from the rain and spent a few beautiful hours. They feature Hayez, Botticelli, and Raphael. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Great temporary exhibitions as well.

A visit to the Accademia Carrara was a must for me. I had a lot of fun, I saw interesting things I had never seen before and learned lots of information about such old works of art.

Basilica di Santa Maria Maggiore

Basilica
Sights & Landmarks
The Basilica di Santa Maria Maggiore is a stunning Romanesque church featuring an elaborate marble porch and a lavishly gilded interior adorned with tapestries. Originally under the administration of the Chapter of San Vincenzo, it was later entrusted to the Congregazione della Misericordia Maggiore. This historic site served as a Collegiate Church until the 1970s and housed its own clergy and seminary.
I love visiting churches when exploring new cities, and this one truly took my breath away. I didn’t expect to find such stunning art and architecture here—absolutely outstanding! A must-visit if you’re in Bergamo. The craftsmanship and atmosphere left a lasting impression.
Habib F — Google review
The most beautiful basilica I’ve ever seen. Every detail is captivating – from the tapestries and wood inlays to the gold accents, paintings, and statues. There’s a sense of harmony and peace inside that makes you want to stay longer and take in every element. You can easily spend a lot of time here just admiring the craftsmanship. The entrance is paid, but it’s absolutely worth it.
Mariana S — Google review
The church opens on Piazza Duomo, you can buy tickets as you enter. The external appearance has largely maintained its Romanesque origins, but the interior is largely Baroque. The choir with the wooden reliefs with Biblical tales are spectacular. We visited the church on Sunday, after the service, and it was a little crowded, but not disturbing. We also had live organ music throughout the visit, I don't know if it's like that every day, or just on Sundays. The music contributed a lot to the whole atmosphere.
Maria R — Google review
Located in Bergamo’s Città Alta, the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore was built in the 12th century. Its Romanesque-Lombard exterior contrasts with a richly Baroque interior. Originally serving as the baptismal church for the Cathedral of San Vincenzo, it stands beside the historic episcopal curia, preserving centuries of sacred heritage.

When you order a church "with everything". See the pictures. It's amazing! Even too much. To discover all details in the pictures and sculptures, you will need 2 years. Overwhelming!

Rome - Italy 🇮🇹 The Papal Basilica of Saint Mary Major (Basilica Papale di Santa Maria Maggiore) is one of the four major papal basilicas in Rome and the largest Catholic church in the world dedicated to the Virgin Mary. Also indulgence is there for the person visiting the basilica and doing the prayers with a repentant heart. (Plz read the directions to obtain indulgence) If you’re around Rome, don’t miss this holy place ♥️🫶🏻
Sony K — Google review
The church literally amazes with its interior! Every element of the interior design attracts the eye, and the more you look, the more you notice different small details. Particularly impressive are the paintings on the ceiling and arches, as if the artists' goal was to use every centimeter of space. The entrance fee is 5 euros, but just one glance for me was enough to buy a ticket without hesitation. I highly recommend visiting!

The Colleoni Chapel, located in Bergamo, is a stunning 15th-century funerary chapel known for its colored marble exterior and frescoed ceiling. This Italian Renaissance masterpiece is dedicated to Saints Bartholomew, Mark, and John the Baptist and features an overwhelming mass of decoration that dazzles the eye.
The tickets are 5 euros (used to be free), however I think it was worth to pay, since I could not take my eyes off the artwork. Very beautiful and majestic, worth a visit

Asking an entrance fee AND not being allowed to take pictures is unacceptable. Especially because of all the damage the catholic church has caused to humanity Allowing free visits is the least they should do for reparations

The Colleoni Chapel in Bergamo’s Upper Town, Piazza Duomo, is a Renaissance gem commissioned by Bartolomeo Colleoni as his mausoleum. Built between 1472 and 1476 by Giovanni Antonio Amadeo, it replaced part of Santa Maria Maggiore, sparking controversy. Today, it stands as a symbol of artistic and historical grandeur.
Dr. H — Google review
Absolutely spectacular baroque church!!! Limited hours. Check website. Weekends can get a little busy but this is the most special church we have seen in Europe so don’t miss it! Have fun!
Wayne B — Google review
While many are drawn to the quirky three testicles on Colleoni's family emblem outside on the fence (which is definitely worth a peek or even a touch for good luck), I highly recommend stepping inside. And see its ornate architecture, frescoes and sculptures. It's clear Colleoni wanted to leave behind a truly remarkable legacy. It's a powerful and beautiful testament to his heritage. Don't miss the chance to explore the interior – it's an unforgettable experience! And you just need to put 1 Euro (or more to enter).
Kirill B — Google review
Unmissable. I gazed for ages at the ceiling, the misericords, everywhere is beautiful. €2 to enter. Up there with the Sacre Couer.

Pallazzo della Ragione is considered one of oldest Italian municipal buildings. Back in the 12c it housed the city council and other administrative offices, while during the Venetian period served as a court. It divides two main squares in old town - Piazza Vecchia and Piazza Duomo, between which you can roam through ancient palace arches. Plaques in those arches explain the history of all buildings around

(Translated by Google) The Palazzo della Ragione in Bergamo Alta is an authentic medieval jewel, among the oldest municipal public buildings in Italy, built between 1183 and 1198. Developed between Piazza Vecchia and Piazza del Duomo, it served as the administrative, judicial and aggregation heart of the medieval city. Originally facing the basilica, between 1453–63 it was reoriented towards Piazza Vecchia to enhance the new city hub. (Translated by Google) It's very beautiful, but what I find truly interesting is the fact that it has been used several times to host contemporary art installations... the dialogue between the past and the present is often re-enacted, as in the Cattelan sculpture currently located there. It depicts a homeless man slumped on a bench, intent on pissing himself... and it's no coincidence that it was placed there... the Palazzo della Ragione was the place where justice was administered, so this statue is a clear social commentary that unfortunately remains relevant...

The Palace of Reason has served as a government seat, courthouse, library, and theater. Its elegant architecture and rich legacy place it at the center of Bergamo’s cultural and civic life. Deeply cherished by locals, it remains a symbol of the city’s enduring history and communal pride.
Dr. H — Google review
(Translated by Google) This building was built in 1198 as a town hall, making it the second oldest town hall in Italy after the Roman one. Previously, the main façade faced the Piazza Duomo, where the entrance staircase also stood. After fires in the 13th-16th centuries, the building underwent significant reconstruction. The main façade was reoriented north, toward the Piazza Vecchia, a new staircase was added to the side, and the old one was dismantled. After annexation by the Venetian Republic, the building housed the Palace of Justice, a name it retains to this day. Since Napoleon's time, the building's civic significance has gradually faded; it has been used as a library, and for a time, it even stood empty. It is now used as an exhibition space. The frescoes, ceilings, windows, and the entire interior are 16th-century, but the exterior retains elements from the 12th.

Its stone façade features a loggia with pointed arches overlooking Piazza Vecchia. During Venetian rule, the building was used as a courthouse, hence its name, as the judges "rendered justice" to the citizens. The upper floor houses the Sala delle Capriate, where contemporary art exhibitions are organized in collaboration with the GAMeC of Bergamo. Historical landmark
Campanone, also known as the Civic Tower, is a medieval tower located in Bergamo's Upper Town. Standing at over 52 meters high, it was built in the 12th century and offers panoramic views of the old town and its mountainous surroundings. Visitors can access the observation deck via a staircase with around 230 steps or take an elevator for convenience.
The best vantage point in Bergamo! Highly recommended if you would like to get a really nice panoramatic view of Bergamo and it's surroundings. The tower itself has a lift built-in nowadays which takes almost to the very top. You then just need to climb a few steps to get to the bell floor for best possible sightseeing experience.
Alexander K — Google review
Such towers were very popular all over northern Italy during the medieval ages. They expressed the wealth of families who built it, but very few remained today. This tower is in the very center of Bergamo upper town, on the main Piazza Vecchia square. Entry ticket of 7 Euros includes climbing the top with an elevator, as well a small archaeological museum down. Views from up (there're two platforms) are stunning, with both upper and lower Bergamo, as well half Lombardy on a clear day
Dejan B — Google review
Probably the highlight of my day in Bergamo! I arrived 5 minutes before they opened the doors and I had the tower for myself for about 10 minutes. The view is truly spectacular! Tickets are only a couple of euros and you can also combine the campanone and the museum inside which was interesting but the view is what makes it so worth visiting!
Marc-André G — Google review

Such a great and calm place, i really enjoyed it. Got a chance to visit an oldest caffe in Bergamo there, I would gladly go back there again.
Jovan S — Google review
🎫 Currently 7 euros but includes 3 parts to the visit. Stunning tower right in the main square, 52.76m high. You can walk up or take the elevator, handy! The views are wow 🔔 Then you can visit the remains of the Podesta Palace of the family, some ruins and then a lovely little museum on the history of Bergamo 'Museo Delle Stories di Bergamo". Lots of activities going on this year in general. Definitely worth it!

Stopped by the is town on the way from Milan to Garda. It were many things to do, to shop and good food around. Bought 12 Euro ticket/person to go in Campanone which this same ticket can be used to access another 4 museums nearby as well. The exhibition has been presented brilliantly, so we enjoyed everything here a lot. The only down side is that it all in Italian so we had to use translation application most of the time.

Rocca di Bergamo is a striking 14th-century fortress situated on the hill of Sant'Eufemia in Bergamo's upper town. It offers breathtaking panoramic views of the city and the Alps. The fortress houses a section of the city's history museum, providing an intriguing look into Bergamo's rich past. Visitors can explore remnants from the city's military history while strolling through the grounds.
This is La Rocca, a beautiful open air museum from Bergamo. 🇮🇹 This place is full of history (mostly monuments from WW2, even a tank that was well-kept). Some of the writings you'll find here tell stories from famous battles which took place between 1939 - 1945 (The Battle of El Alamein, Egypt, being one of them). If you're visiting Bergamo for the first time, don't miss out this great tourist attraction. Believe me, it is stunning. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Beautiful baroque cathedral. Came here while rehearsal for big mass. I found a chapel of holy cross very beautiful. There is a painting of Christus taking off the holly cross and in the dome painting Christus is painted with the cross and Father God and Holly Spirit as Holly trinity. There is also small and hidden Stations of the Cross, carved in marble. The cathedral has also a crypt, but was not accessible at the time of visit.

Bergamo Duomo is set on Piazza Duomo - a tiny and packed square with other religious edifices. It is the very first on the left, and you'll recognized it by its whitewashed neoclassical facade. However, behind it, when you enter, you're stunned with outstanding and beautiful art and decoration. We even found it more beautiful than the next door Basilica Santa Maria Maggiore, as the decor is not that intense like Basilica's. Entry is free
Dejan B — Google review
Quite plain on the outside but rich in decoration in the interior. The Crypt area is very interesting and a must see when you visit. There are a few mini chapels off to the sides, so make sure you visit those also. As always with these Italian Cathedrals the floors and ceiling is incredible. The church is free to enter.

At Da Mimmo, guests can indulge in traditional Italian fare with a creative twist.
Excellent attentive service, good food. Great setting. Well worth a trip! The fish of the day was excellent (sea bass). Portion sizes were sensible so you could have appetisers, primi and secondi and not be too full. Wine list was excellent. Accommodated dietary requirements well.

The best restaurant I have been to for a while. Make sure you come early or book as it gets busy... even in October. Fabulous wine selection and menu options.
Jeanette Z — Google review
A typical tourist restaurant. The food was average, and there was no flexibility to order anything outside of the set menu. At least they managed to bring us tomatoes and mozzarella separately, as they weren’t able to prepare a Caprese salad. The pasta wasn’t bad, the most delicious one was the lobster pasta. However, the most disappointing part was that they added an extra bottle of wine to our bill, which we neither ordered nor drank. When we pointed out that we had only one bottle, they corrected the bill without any issues. Still, it left us with a slightly uncomfortable feeling, as it could have been an honest mistake or something less innocent. The only truly enjoyable aspect was the beautiful garden and its pleasant atmosphere.

We ate here for my husband’s birthday. Food was excellent. Great appetizers and bread. Prices were also fair. Service was not great as they completely forgot to prepare my father’s food and everyone else’s plate arrived at different times, which meant none of us actually ate at the same time. We had high expectations for this restaurant and unfortunately the service did not live up to them.

Circolino Città Alta is a charming eatery located in the medieval heart of the Upper Town, housed in a former monastery turned prison. The restaurant offers a carefully sourced traditional menu and an extensive wine list. In winter, guests can dine amidst seventeenth-century frescoes, while in summer, they can enjoy the pleasant garden. The establishment prides itself on its meticulous search for raw materials and respect for tradition.
I visited Cirocolino twice with a cousin, and both times were absolutely wonderful! The service was excellent and the food was delicious. Along with the drinks, they serve bread, which is a lovely touch. The pasta, burger, and cheeses are all outstanding! The portions are very generous - more than enough to satisfy, and every bite is full of flavor. I especially want to praise the staff - today, the gentleman serving the cheese kindly looked for a colleague who speaks better English so they could explain the cheeses to me in more detail. That was such a thoughtful gesture and truly made my experience even better. I’ll really miss the flavors of this place! Also, the lady at the register is incredibly kind and radiates positive energy – it honestly makes you not want to leave. Highly recommended!

Very busy spot for dinner special at the weekend. Reservation was needed. We have ordered Rabit with polenta, beef with polenta and two pizzas + bottle of red wine and 2 Coca Cola paid around 80 euros with coperto. We didn’t have to wait long for our order. Everything was tasty. Portion was not to big. If you order only one dish (no starters) you might be a little bit hungry but then you have a space for dessert so overall is good👍

We have the impression that the waiters are bored and seemed to be angry with customers and foreigns. Food was fine, price is fair and we were pleased to be acomodated at the garden. Recommendations: - casoncelli (vegetarian) - mushrooms and some sort of museline Add: a half jug of wine of the house (4 servings) Also, the chicken a la milanesa was taste and fresh

Arrived in Bergamo and had to try this place despite a couple of dodgy reviews. Walked in about 6pm and were immediately sat at a nice table. My family and I had a fantastic time. Great food (the steak was awesome!), really friendly staff who were helpful on food and wine selections and great fun. We were sat upstairs and we all commented how good the acoustics were for conversation at the table in a reasonably full restaurant by the time we left at about 9:30pm. As for the slightly negative reviews on here… Hey everyone has an off day, don’t let that put you off this great establishment. Cost wise… €170 for 4 people having 2-3 courses each, soft drinks and a decent bottle of local wine to complement the steak. We felt that was very reasonable considering the quality of the experience. We could easily have dined there without deserts and the alcoholic beverages for well under €100

Great restaurant at citta alta with a lot of local products. They offer a variety of local cuisine, beer, wines, pizza and sweets. When we went it was packed and had quite a wait time, so it was a good thing we had a reservation in advance. The dishes were great and the pizza was very light.

Recommended by an Italian friend — and it certainly didn’t disappoint! Located in the medieval heart of Bergamo, in a building that once housed an ancient monastery later converted into a prison, Il Circolino di Città Alta offers cozy, atmospheric spaces that make for a truly memorable dining experience. We enjoyed an exquisite Italian lunch, with each dish beautifully presented and bursting with flavor. The pizzas were light and crispy, while the Caprese salad featured ripe, juicy tomatoes and a whole mozzarella, perfectly seasoned with fresh herbs. Very reasonably priced. The waiting staff were attentive and polite throughout. A wonderful spot — I’d definitely recommend visiting when in Bergamo!

Trattoria Da Adriano

$$$$affordable
Pizza restaurant
This pizza restaurant is popular and has an excellent service. The food is great, with delicious house-made pasta and pizzas. The shots are very tasty, with interesting flavors.
This trattoria in Bergamo is an absolute gem! From the moment you step in, you're greeted with warm hospitality and an atmosphere that feels authentically Italian. The spontaneous bursts of Italian singing from the guests add to the charm—it's like stepping into a classic movie scene. The food? Simply outstanding. Every dish is crafted with care, from perfectly cooked pasta to rich, flavorful sauces and fresh ingredients that highlight traditional Italian flavors. The staff is friendly, attentive, and clearly passionate about what they do, making the experience even more enjoyable. Whether you're a local or just visiting, this is the kind of place that makes you fall in love with Italian cuisine and culture all over again. Highly recommended!

We stayed in Bergamo for 3 days and visited this restaurant every single day. The service is the best we have ever experienced. One waiter in particular is a true professional in his field. He remembered that we had been there before and, even though we were seated in a different area that he wasn’t serving, he came over to check if everything was alright and if we needed anything. We felt truly cared for, the food arrived incredibly quickly, and they have an amazingly tasty sparkling white wine. Highly recommended – if you are in Bergamo, this is an absolute must-visit!

Usually don’t do negative reviews, but this was quite disappointed experience. Visiting on Saturday for lunch, only main menu available which is understandable. Food arrived quick, but have to wait for a waiter to place the order in empty restaurant. Carbonara was just egg with spaghetti, rest from recipe was missing. Some shredded parmigiana (which was forgotten when food arrived) made it taste a bit better.

A lovely place, nice staff, and delicious generous dishes. The pizza was just amazing.
AkimH — Google review
A nice traditional Italian restaurant. The waiter recommended to start with a spaghetti with tomato sauce, which was nice. I always go for a spaghetti as first dish. The second dish, I wanted an italian beef salad but the waiter recommended a beef dish with an Irish name. I didnt know it came with french fries. I am not in Italy for french fries so that was really a bad choice. The beef itself was ok, but I have tasted so good beef in Italy that this was a really disappointment. Thats why I only give 3 stars here.
Vu T — Google review
We loved this place. Staff was friendly and attentive, and so welcoming. We were greeted with a welcome drink and snack, the fresh bread was fabulous and the balsamic vinegar was the best we had in Italy. We had a Caprese salad which was great, and a seafood pizza, which was only so-so. I blame myself for not asking the waiter for a recommendation ( I had been dreaming of a seafood pizza); the food served around us looked and smelled wonderful and got thumbs up and raves from nearby customers. (The bread with balsamic and olive oil was so good I didn’t care about the pizza!) Treated to a limoncello after dinner. Wish we’d had a chance to return.

Lalimentari is a charming bar and restaurant in Bergamo that offers a delightful dining experience. With terrace tables, it's the perfect spot to savor pasta, polenta, antipasti, and an extensive wine selection. The establishment prides itself on bringing together traditional local products with a modern touch, ensuring high-quality dishes prepared with passion and care. Visitors can expect a menu featuring vegetarian options as well as indications for gluten and lactose content.
We enjoyed all meals we selected, really great. Polenta was delicious. I had Beef Brasata and polenta with cheeses and it was superb
Lenka H — Google review
I recently dined at Lalimentari and had a fantastic experience. The standout dish was the pasta with porcini mushrooms—rich, earthy, and perfectly cooked. The flavors were well-balanced, with the mushrooms bringing a deep, savory note that paired wonderfully with the freshness of the pasta. I also had the aged dry ham, which was delicately sliced and full of robust flavor. It had just the right amount of saltiness and a melt-in-the-mouth texture that showed its quality. To complement the meal, I ordered a glass of wine recommended by the staff. It paired beautifully with both the pasta and the ham, enhancing the overall experience. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable, and the ambiance of the restaurant was warm and inviting, with a rustic yet refined charm. Overall, Lalimentari delivered an authentic and satisfying Italian dining experience. I would definitely return and recommend it to anyone looking for quality food and a cozy atmosphere.

I had dinner at Lalimentari in Bergamo and honestly, it blew me away. Everything I tried was spot-on and full of flavor. I started with the local cold cuts and cheese platter — all from Bergamo and the surrounding region. The meats were rich and well-cured, the cheeses were perfectly aged and balanced, and the crunchy crackers added that perfect texture contrast. You could really taste the quality and the care that went into choosing every single product. Then I had the ravioli-style pasta from Bergamo, covered in a pool of melted butter and sprinkled with Parmigiano. Simple? Yes. Boring? Absolutely not. It was rich, comforting, and packed with flavor — every bite felt like classic Italian comfort food done right. The staff, very nice and super polite! Big up The setting was relaxed and local, and everything tasted authentic without trying too hard. This is one of those places you hope to stumble upon when traveling — and I’m glad I did. Five stars, no question.

I went to this restaurant with my girlfriend and two other couples. My friends quite like the food but our dishes weren't of the quaility I'd expected. The Bergamo-styled rabbit was dry and had too many bones for my taste. Pasta was good but I'd tried better ones. Having a chance to be at the main square at the centre of the old town was really pleasant as we listened to local musicians. At the end of the night we had to wait for 30 minutes until we finally got the bill and paid as waiters were quite slow.

I believe this is the best restaurant in Bergamo. I stayed in the city for three days and came back here every single day because the food was delicious, the atmosphere was beautiful, and the prices were very reasonable. Everything was fresh, full of flavor, and served with great care. It truly felt like the heart of Bergamo’s hospitality.
Marsowia — Google review
There was no waiting for a table even though the restaurant is always full, the service is excellent, the waiters are very helpful, the prices are high for the amount you get. If you sit outside the restaurant, the atmosphere is great because the restaurant is located on the square itself, while the inside of the restaurant exudes history and creates an additional atmosphere and ambiance while tasting the dishes of that region.
Anita C — Google review
The carbonara was only warm, the taste was average. The guanciale was not crispy, but completely hard, there was little sauce. The lasagna was very strangely prepared and had a poor taste.
Ernestas B — Google review
We came by accident to hide quickly from the rain, a bit scared it will be a tourist trap, but we were nicely impressed - food was really good and portions were fullfilling, everything was aesthetically served. Polenta was soft and tasty, perfectly combined with cheese and ragù. Ravioli excellent, burro con salvia was full of taste. Service was kind, a bit disorganised, probably cause of amount of guests. Beautiful location, amazing local meals, I highly recommend! 🍝

In addition to local specialties like casoncelli all Bergamasca and local salami, the menu also includes internationally beloved dishes such as carbonara and lasagne.
If you're in Bergamo, especially in Città Alta, this restaurant is definitely worth a visit. The food is delicious, and the prices are very reasonable—you won’t break the bank here! The wine selection is also well-priced. And to top it all off, the service is outstanding. Our waitress, Ivonne, was both professional and incredibly friendly 😊

Great service and great vegan options! We were happy to find a traditional Italian ristorante that offers a variety of vegan options. It’s not listed on the menu but the staff helped out! 😊 Till now we ate the bruschetta with Tomate, the spaghetti pomodoro, we love the insalata mista but our highlight is the vegan polenta option! 🙏

Good pizza and with options to have it gluten-free and with lactose free mozzarella. Not many pizza places have both options. Service was okay, had the impression that the waitress was going to say no to my wife when she asked to have her pizza cut for her. She eventually took my wife’s pizza back to the kitchen to have it sliced up but she gave the impression that she was reluctant to do it. Not sure why but it’s a simple request. Not sure I would go back to this restaurant.

Baretto di San Vigilio is a charming and romantic restaurant located in Bergamo Alta, offering refined cuisine in an elegant setting. The restaurant features a low-lit dining room as well as a romantic terrace with stunning views of the city and the Orobie Mountains. Housed in an old Bergamasque villa, Baretto di San Vigilio exudes English charm mixed with French bistro ambiance. The menu offers generous traditional cuisine with a modern twist.
Perhaps the best lunch we have ever had! Great food is an understatement and the service was first class. Couple that with a warm sunny day and sitting on the outdoor terrace - it couldn’t have been better. We had a spritz and two lovely bottles of wine between 4. The restaurant gave us various complimentary tasting dishes which were all delicious. When I asked for the bill it was way under my expectations at about $100AUD per head - the best inexpensive lunch I’ve ever had - plenty of room for a good tip to the happy staff and owners.

My husband and I researched restaurants in Bergamo before we left the UK. We came across this delightful restaurant online and called to book a table on the terrace for the evening we arrived. Well, what can we say! It delivered beyond our expectations in every way. We took the funicular railway and a few steps from the terminal & we had arrived at the restaurant with its outstanding view and twinkling lights. It was such a pretty setting. The buzz from the people dining on the terrace was just lovely, and we received exceptional service from the staff. Nothing was too much trouble and they were very friendly too. The menu choices were amazing, and the food was incredible! Every dish had flavours that set your taste buds going. We had a lovely rose wine recommended by their wine waiter, which did not disappoint. All in all, we had a truly wonderful evening, and we will treasure our memories of our time spent here. Highly recommended. Pay a visit when in Bergamo, you will not be disappointed!

We found out about this place from the Michelin guide and this was actually a second visit. We went in without a reservation and the staff were super accommodating. The food is so good, it has a familiar feel, like good ol' homecooked meals but with a special twist. I especially enjoyed the pumpkin appetizer, the carbonara and the truffle pasta. Not to mention the pittoresque setting which was so cozy in a rainy day.

Situated near Piazza Vecchia, it combines tradition and innovation through its excellent food and wine offerings.
Fine Dining for Everyone! Never thought we would stumble into a restaurant of this calibre. Dishes were beautifully crafted but the art was in the execution of the balance of the matchmaking of the ingredients that made my taste buds dance and my heart sing. My Dark Cocoa Tartlet (savoury) was divine!!! If I am ever in Bergamo or in Milan, I will definitely come back to this under-rated restaurant again. The service was excellent. I dined solo for the evening. I walked in and asked for a table and was seated somewhere towards the back for a nice quiet meal. The music was a fantastic playlist to go along with the food. I had excellent service with the waitress taking care of me for my time there. She made some excellent recommendations for the evening. They have many gluten free options to choose from here. Reading some of the other reviews was unfortunate to read. I had the opposite experience with my visit to this place without a reservation and walking in. Disappointing Experience Despite High Expectations We visited this restaurant after reading several glowing reviews, hoping for a memorable meal. Unfortunately, our experience was far from satisfying. We ordered two dishes, both of which were underwhelming in flavor and presentation. The wine didn’t help either—it was equally disappointing. To make matters worse, we were charged €4.50 per person for service, bringing our total to €60. For that price, we expected much more. The portions were surprisingly small, so even if the food had been enjoyable, it wouldn’t have felt worth it. I don’t usually write negative reviews, but in this case, the value simply didn’t match the cost. Sadly, we left feeling let down and unlikely to return. P.S thanks for bread!

We went to this restaurant for a dinner, because it was recommended by many sources. When we entered we felt like we were part of Italian family - great service, the owner was welcoming the guests. As for the food, for dinner there is a formula: first and second dishes + salad bar (you can pick your veggies, and the selection is good) + dessert, all for 25€ It was a great experience, we were lucky to get a spot without a reservation - this place is very popular, so better reserve in advance

What an experience! It was super fun and delicious, we felt like it was the real deal. We were seated at a shared table, very kind waiter explained the menu to us (in spanish so we would understand), there is a salad bar, you get water, wine, bread and one or two course meal. The atmosphere is eclectic and so charming! It felt genuine and honestly it was a treat! Price is very reasonable too.

They are offering a fixed menu plus a buffet for 25 Euro. A carafe of wine is included. Our pasta dishes were very good. The pork chop was very dry and was not seasoned. Boring. The roast beef was boring too.. On one photo what we gave back uneaten. The dessert was too sweet. The salad buffet was nothing to talk about. The cheapest available stuff. Because we prefer beer over wine, we asked if it's possible to change the included wine to beer. One waiter said yes, another said no. Finally I ordered one beer - a Heineken was the only available one. What a shame, because there are very good Italian beers. So we tried the wines. Big mistake. The cheapest wines on the market I guess. The waiters were friendly, the waitresses acted if they hate their job. The chairs are maximal uncomfortable.

This was certainly the most interesting dinner I have had in Bergamo. You will probably need to book a table as I found the restaurant occupied multiple evenings. The kitchen seems to specialize in unorthodox ingredients, do not expect any usual meals. I had raw beef heart tartare and then lamb offal with river shrimp, everything very tasty. The cheese plate for a dessert was decent. Great selection of local wines, also unusual varieties. For that experience, it was not too expensive, not more than any other usual restaurant in the old city. Great dinner, thanks!

It is a very good restaurant, we were just unsatisfied with a couple of things, hence 4 and not 5 stars. We ordered one of the tasting menus, where we found the portions to be small. Ate here during a trip to Bergamo last week. Was recommend by our hotel as a good local restaurant option. Located very slightly off the main road, its well worth the trip down the hill. Menu was limited but we liked that. Food was delicious and staff were excellent. Getting around Bergamo can be a little daunting if you’re new here. We can help list some of the major public transportation methods if you don’t want to rely on a car.

Nearby airports

Milan Linate Airport

International airport
Airport
Milan Linate Airport is the city's second airport, catering to short-haul and domestic flights. It offers convenient transportation options such as bus connections to the city center and Stazione Centrale. The airport provides a pleasant travel experience with spacious, clean, and well-organized facilities. Notably, it has introduced innovative face boarding for seamless boarding processes.
Good things do come in small packages. Entry into and leaving airport effortless. Good range of shops including Armani, ample food court. Spotlessly clean toilets. Very close to Moxy Hotel. There are no busy queues for taxi.
Craig P — Google review
This Milan Airport (LIN) was very convenient if you plan to stay close to the Metropolitan Downtown Shopping area or close to the Buenos Aires Shopping district. It is smaller than Malpansa (MXP), which is also further away from the Metro area. Baggage pick-up area can be a little confusing so be sure to look for your correct flight carousel before discovering you were standing in the wrong area the whole time! Also, have comfortable walking shoes on as parking is across the street and multiple levels. Cool airport overall!
Wayne A — Google review
So far all my experiences in the 3 airports of Milan have always been pleasant. They have almost all the things needed for a flight. Linate is nothing wow but functioning quite ok. We parked for a lot of time but was not asked to move out. The airport staffs I encountered were all ok.
A S — Google review
While disembarking was very quick, the mandatory route that forces passengers to walk through the shopping area before boarding isn’t very pleasant. I understand it might increase shopping rates, but most of the stores were empty anyway. It would be much better if we could reach the gate faster without that unnecessary detour.
Efe Z — Google review
Was pick from the crowds for a "Random Police Check" despite showing my British passport and going back to the UK! Also, a horrible long line to reach the B gate area! Surely there is a better way of doing this check
Mahmoud A — Google review
Nearly flawless urban airport. Excellent rail access to the city center on the 4, which terminates at the airport. Modern, clean, well-lit, and well-maintained. Staffed by highly professional and courteous personnel, and with modern baggage scanners and policies that allow you to keep most of your items inside your carry-on. Some airports still require you to take electronics/fluids out of your bag for no apparent reason, but not Milan Linate. Incredibly efficient while maintaining public safety. Selection of restaurants and cafes available both inside and outside security, and there are many water fountains throughout the terminal. One nit is that sensors in the bathrooms seem to be overly sensitive, causing toilets to flush almost continuously during use. Nevertheless a model airport. Every airport in the world could learn a thing or two from their staff and management.
Taiga T — Google review

The airport may be smaller than expected but has a cute ambiance with surprising features like a grand piano in one of the lounge areas.
One of the best airports in Europe. Very busy but always clean and tidy. Lots of shops. Security checks are extremely fast even if there is a kong queue. The airport is constantly expanding. Also, it is one of the biggest Engineering bases for Ryanair aircrafts which are mostly predominant here.

Bergamo Airport serves as a practical and accessible hub for travelers in the Schengen area. Upon arrival, our experience was smooth and efficient. Since we were traveling within the Schengen zone, there was no passport control, which made the exit process quick. Within minutes, we were outside the terminal — a huge plus, especially when traveling with a child. Unfortunately, the return experience didn’t match the positive first impression. After completing the boarding process, we were kept waiting for more than 10 minutes for the shuttle bus to the aircraft. The situation was made worse by the lack of seating in the boarding area. My daughter had fallen asleep in my arms, and standing in a crowded space with no place to sit made the wait feel much longer. The real issue, however, was the poor organization and lack of professionalism from the ground staff. There was no explanation for the delay, no assistance offered to families, and no effort made to improve comfort during the wait. Managing luggage and a sleeping child without any support or clear communication was stressful and avoidable with better planning on the airport’s part. While Bergamo Airport is efficient when things go smoothly, it lacks the infrastructure and service quality to handle even minor disruptions comfortably — especially for families or travelers with specific needs. It’s a functional airport, ideal for short trips and solo travelers, but it falls short on care and customer service when it matters most. In summary, Bergamo Airport performs well on arrivals but needs significant improvement in its ground operations and family support during departures.

Despite our flight landing on time, we were forced to sit inside the plane for nearly 30 minutes waiting for a bus to the terminal — which is literally a 3-minute drive. We could have reached it faster on foot. The terminal experience was even worse. Passport control took over an hour to get through. Just to put it in perspective: it took 2 hours to fly from Turkey to Italy, and another 2 hours just to get off the plane and enter the airport. Everything moves unbelievably slowly, and no one seems to care. A very disappointing welcome to Italy

The airport is relatively small, but well organized, clean and easy to operate through. It also has nice view of the Alps. The organization through security is fast and you can easily orientate yourself to the gate. There's plenty of stores and food places. There's a smoking area inside and entertainment. The airport is 50 minutes away from Milano with shuttles operating very often for the price of 12 euro per person.

Milan's Bergamo Airport is neat, clean and efficient. With the Orio Centre Shopping Mall positioned a stones throw away, it helps with access to some good Italian eateries and shopping experiences. However, there are a few good restaurants, takeaways and coffee places in the airport itself, so you won't fall short of getting something good to eat or drink. Theres also a book store and newspaper outlet, and several car rental agencies within the complex. The toilets are clean, security and passport control seems efficient and overall, the experience was pleasant. Of added value was the ease of access to the local taxi and bus service, and the cordial Italian welcome.

Nice welcome at the airport with beer store!!Long hallways, only cafes open at 4:00 in the morning (an not all of them - only a couple - most of them open at 4:30), clean toilets at that time - dont know about pick hours, Polite staff willing to help! Oriocenter shipping mall is exactly opposite to the airport which is good for those who have long waiting hours until their flight

IT WAS MY FAVOURITE AIRPORT IN THE WHOLE EUROPE UNTIL NOW They keep us like animals in 2-3-4!!! hours queues for passport controls upon arrival. And nobody is responsible. And nothing changed in a month! Last time there was only two staff to check your passport and one even left in the middle of everything. A person just fainted in line here!

Complete mess. We waited for passport control for more than 2 hours. The employees are very slow and angry. However, returning home was very fast and friendly from the Raynair employees. That's why I gave it 1 more star.
