Praia da Rocha is a bustling beach with impressive rock formations both in and around the water, as well as a variety of hotels and dining options nearby. The area boasts several extraordinary beaches, including Praia do Vau, Praia do Carvoeiro, and Praia dos Caneiros, each offering unique features such as safe shores, ample sand for sports and sandcastle building, and calm waters suitable for children.
Long and wide sandy beach, there are sunbeds with umbrellas for 16 euros for two. Gentle entry into the ocean, a paradise for children, there are also water activities such as catamarans, jet skis, etc.

Beautiful beach with clear water and stunning cliffs. Lots of bars and restaurants nearby. A must-visit in Portimão! One of the most beautiful beaches in Portugal!
Zakaria H — Google review
Wow. This beach exceeded expectations. Walked it for about 2 km and loved every part of it. Dramatic waves and beautiful cliffs. Easily accessible and there's a viewpoint after about 1km where you can watch the sunset over the cliffs.
Hanne H — Google review
Woweeee!!! This was THE beach to be at in Praia da Rocha!! We were there in August and even though it LOOKED busy it’s such a large area that it was an amazing experience. To see the beaches, jump the waves, rent a cabana, walk along the boardwalk and eat lunch at one of the beaches restaurants. We were lucky enough to watch the sunset from the best window seat at Casa da Rocha that overlooks the beach.
Margie O — Google review
Beautiful soft sand and the sea was significantly warmer than in Lagos. Just an absolutely long stretch of beach with sun loungers. Bring your own snacks and drinks.
Shar C — Google review
Beautiful beach and sand. Water is not clear and quite a lot of algae. October still hot enough for beach days, water is quite cold so do not recommend to swim. Gets quite windy as the day goes on. During off season a lot of space. Beautiful rock formation nearby.
Duba R — Google review
The most famous beach in the Algarve, the most chic and trendy and the busiest as well ... This large beach, bordered by imposing ochre and red cliffs, carved out by caves, is a favorite destination for Germans and English tourists. Unfortunately, the seafront buildings overlook these same cliffs and somewhat spoil our enjoyment! Festivals, parties, and DJs in season delight a young, cosmopolitan crowd. Restaurants spread along the new wooden walkway, aimed at tourists. Whether you like this setting or not, the atmosphere is there. You can always take a stroll along the beaches, from Praia da Rocha to Praia da Vau, passing by Praia dos Três Castelos at low tide ...
Enjoy L — Google review
I had high expectations of Praua da Rocha, but perhaps they were too high. Yes, parts of this resort are very pleasing on the eye(especially the beach and rugged cliffs), but the resort is just too small. Most of the pubs and clubs are located in one small section and after 10 days(which is far too long to spend at this place), we ended up visiting the same places over and over again. The resort mainly consists of restaurants and apartments. If you are disabled then forget about visiting the beach. There are steep cliffs running along the entirity of the front, and the beach is only accessible via steps. There is no lift to take you down. There was only one road that led down to the beach, but this was so steep that coming back up on a .mobility scooter would have been impossible. Every day on our travels, we would be accosted by drug dealers attempting to peddle their ill-gotten wares . Despite telling the same people over and over that we were not interested, nevertheless, they harassed us incessantly! Furthermore, be wary of the scammers and tramps that lurk here. Some pubs won't let them in, but others have no such qualms. Anyone on their own who gives you a sob story is best avoided. In all, I will not be visiting this place again.

Marina de Portimão is a picturesque marina located at the eastern tip of Praia da Rocha, offering stunning views of the Arade estuary. The area is bustling with activity, featuring a boardwalk lined with seafood restaurants, pizzerias, and shops selling swimwear and sports apparel. Visitors can also explore nearby attractions such as Sao Joao do Arade Fort and Portimao Museum.
At reception very helpful stuff. All well organized. Toilets were clean all the time - all week with an event of 200 and more people. No litter around. Cleaners did great job! Beautiful.
Alenka S — Google review
Very nice, tranquil area with plenty of restaurants. Parking is free in the off-season. Parking spaces difficult to find in the high season.

Marina de Portimão — Big, beautiful, and full of life! This marina is huge and absolutely stunning. With luxury yachts, colorful boats, and a variety of restaurants and shops, it’s a perfect place to stroll, enjoy the views, or just relax by the water. The atmosphere is vibrant, and there’s always something going on. Whether you're into watching the boats or grabbing a bite at one of the waterfront cafés, it’s a great spot to spend your day. Highly recommend checking it out!
Lilia S — Google review
We did a sunset tour with champagne It was a lovely 2 hours and enjoyed it a lot. It was with alvor boat trips
Desi C — Google review
Great Marina with all the facilities and amazing staff. Just be aware in the South Basin there are some Loud Bars and occasional music festivals on the beach at various times of year. North Basin quieter and has own clean shower block. Easy to enter and nice long reception pontoon to starboard when you enter before the fuel and pump out pumps.
Simon L — Google review
Huge marina, reasonably priced, well maintained, polite staff. We enjoyed our stay. They pack 'em in, channels are narrow, be prepared to monitor both sides as you enter the slips.
George A — Google review
Fantastic place to chill if you are in the area. The marina is lovely and you can take many boats from this area. The food is fine, good for a snack or breakfast. There is a massive beach nearby, not the most glamorous in Algarve but clean and huge space. You would definitely enjoy spending half a day here.

Specialty Museums
The Museu de Portimão is a regional heritage museum located in a restored 19th-century cannery, offering an immersive experience into the sardine fishing and canning traditions of the area. The museum showcases the evolution of Portimao from its prehistoric origins to becoming a significant fishing and canning center in the 20th century.
We had a very good experience. In addition to the educational experience, we have seen modern art exhibitions and an art exhibition with tiles and ceramic material. The works looked very attractive and bright, you can see the artist's effort in each one of them. The history of the sardines was extremely interesting, I loved the development of how in the industrial era, everyone worked and had a place to take care of the children. The process and how everyone had a function was very interesting and I loved it. The toilets in the museum were clean and the price was super affordable, 6 euros per adult. We also saw the process of sinking a fishing boat and how it became a habitat for marine life.
Laura F — Google review
An interesting museum built in an old canned sardine factory. The exhibits are interesting with a lot of history, not only about the sardines, but also about the Portimao area. It isn't huge, so about 45 minutes is enough to cover everything. Only minus was the ticket counter as it is also a souvenir shop. There were only a few people in the queue, but they spent about 10 minutes to chose different types of sardine cans as souvenirs. We were wondering how long would it take if there were 10 customers.
Sami K — Google review
Very nice little museum! We visited with our 2 kids (5 and 7 years old) in August '25 and spent about 1,5 hours there. Very cheap, we paid 4,5€ for 2 adults and kids entered for free. Very interesting to learn about how the sardine factory worked. The museum is located inside the old factory and there are still many original machines there. The old black and white movie explains very well the process from catching fish at sea until the packaging process. Very much recommended.
BrunoDecorte — Google review
I enjoyed my visit to the Portimão Museum. It’s housed in a beautifully converted old cannery and gives a fascinating look into the town’s industrial and fishing heritage. The exhibits are thoughtfully put together, with a good mix of visuals, artefacts and interactive elements that really bring the stories to life. Unfortunately, our visit was unexpectedly cut short when the building suddenly lost power, everything went completely dark and we were kindly asked to leave. I assume it was an electricity trip or something similar, which was a real shame as we were only partway through and keen to see the rest. That said, what we did see was excellent, and we’d definitely go back if we’re in the Portimão again.
Colin B — Google review
Housed in an old sardine factory, with some local history focusing on the sardine industry. Very interesting, but not very large and the staff are a little unfriendly but worth a visit in a lovely part of Portimão.
Padraic R — Google review
Housed in a beautifully restored 19th-century sardine canning factory, the Museu de Portimão offers a fascinating glimpse into the industrial and maritime heritage of the Algarve. The exhibits are well-curated, blending historical artifacts, interactive displays, and multimedia presentations that bring the region’s past to life. Highlights include the detailed exploration of the fishing and canning industries and the immersive reconstructions of local life. It’s a great stop for history buffs and curious travelers alike. Allow 1–2 hours for a visit. It’s free for students. Recommend it!
Maria A — Google review
Very interesting museum reproducing the production process of canned sardines in the first half of the 20th century, along with a reconstruction of other historical periods of the Algarve. Definitely recommend.
Elena P — Google review
This is very nice local museum. We were positively surprised by the quality of the exposition. The overall disposition of various items is very chaotic and there is no red thread, but items itself are very fascinating. Definitely, it is worth visiting.

Beautiful and nice beach ( really nice ) There are better beach then there as well!!

Mind blowing stunning views here , the geology is so interesting. Great beach with those beautiful cliff formations. Water is so clear and was so warm to dip. Also a nice spot to kayak. Worth visiting.
Moumita S — Google review
Beautiful beach in a stunning area. Not very crowded compared to the famous beaches in the area of Algarve. We enjoyed the space, cleanliness and the proximity to the city Portimão and not far from Lagos. Ok shallow waters for a relax swim, although the water is very cold early in the season. General tip: look up the tides online and base your visit to the beach. Car can be parked on the parking lot and on the street next to the beach. There are restaurants on the beach and also hotels next to it.
Chino — Google review
Praia do Vau is located about a 10-minute drive from Portimão. Although it is smaller than some of the neighbouring beaches, it features impressive cliffside and rock formations. The beach's lovely golden colour provides a stunning backdrop for both sunrises and sunsets. Like other beaches, you can rent loungers and umbrellas here. There are also a few beachside bars and restaurants available. Additionally, a viewing point is available that offers stunning views of the beach and its surroundings. Although Praia do Vau is not as long or as crowded as other beaches, it offers unique and breathtaking views. It is definitely worth a visit.
Louis C — Google review
I liked the beach! There’s umbrellas and chairs to rent at 20Euro and we can take any other place. There’s a restroom nearby and and snack bar. Its a very calm beach.
Alice A — Google review
We went to a boat tour to see these beautiful caves and stones around the area. It was breathtaking. We were able to get into and see the caves. We even saw a big jellyfish in the water. Strongly recommend a boat or kayak trip.
Helen I — Google review
This beach is stunning. It has a large stretch of sand and cliffs and rock faces around. You can walk from one beach to the next, and through the rocks/coves. It wasn't busy. There are bars and restaurants around all with bathrooms and toilets available.

Forte de Santa Catarina, also known as Santa Catarina Fortress, is a historic military structure located in Portimao, Portugal. Built during the 17th century to protect the area from pirate raids, it offers picturesque ocean and sunset views. The fortress was occupied by various authorities throughout history and is now open to visitors. Climbing to the top provides an opportunity to walk around the battlements and enjoy stunning vistas of the Arade River and Praia da Rocha cliffs.
Beautiful views and well maintained. A little dark and scary at night, bring a flash light for the stairs.

Beautiful views, fort is well maintained and has toilets 👏😆
Colin B — Google review
Beautiful area with great history. Some stairs to walk up if you at the beach side.
Adam L — Google review
Very pretty. Not busy. Toilets available and they were clean. Steps down to the lower port beach area. No access ramp possible for wheelchair.
Graham T — Google review
A terrific vantage point to view Praia Da Rocha beaches and the entrance to the marina. You won’t find much historical information here on the fort, but there are many stairways, some hidden by trees, to go from it to the beaches. They are beautiful walks.
Clinton F — Google review
Awesome view! If you are in Portugal as a tourist, it is necessary to go there especially at night and enjoy the view of the city lights and the sound of the ocean, during the day it is still beautiful because you can see huge long beaches and water, a great observation deck
Konrad # — Google review
When we first approached the Castle, I thought, "It is smaller than I had imagined!" Until you are inside! It is a vast castle! Covering a huge area! Great place to walk around and the view is tremendous!
David W — Google review
I visited here alone for 30 minutes and had a really pleasant time. Fortaleza is a 10 minute walk from the main part of Praia da Rocha beach strip. I was here at about 4pm in the afternoon and there was only half a dozen other people. The flower wall is a really nice area I would imagine girls like to get photos for Instagram etc. the views over the marina are really nice and gives you some perspective of where landmarks along the coast are situated. You can still walk up the really old stairs to get to the roof of the fort which is a nice touch. I wouldn’t say this is a must visit attraction, but I wouldn’t overlook it if your in the area of have some time to kill.

The area features various other beaches such as Careanos, Vau, Barranco das Canas, Joao d'Arens, Prainha and Tres Irmaos beaches.
I liked this long beach full and In the sea, there were large rocks of different sizes and shapes, open like a tunnel, where you can take beautiful photos and pass through . It’s connected to the others beaches around you only need to walk and go through the open caves or walk in the water when it’s low.
Alice A — Google review
Another beautiful beach here on the coastline of southern Portugal. This particular beach is not that easy to get to but is worth the effort, no doubt 🙂 .
Kim A — Google review
Absolutely beautiful beach! The golden cliffs, soft sand, and clear turquoise water make it one of the most stunning spots in the Algarve. It’s clean, spacious, and great for swimming or just relaxing with a view.
Ivan S — Google review
Incredibly beautiful. Not too busy in late spring.
David P — Google review
Breathtakingly beautiful beach, however there's no WC or showers
Taisa — Google review
Undoubtedly, one of the places that you must visit and spend at least a day. A great visual spectacle of rock formations that will accompany you along its entire length. Clean water and the beach are standard here, so there is nothing else to do but enjoy every moment of this place!
Lucca T — Google review
This place is beautiful, but there are many sharp rock submerged beneath the water when the tide comes in. I’m writing this as a note of caution for tourists visiting this beach- to be careful of the stones beneath their feet and hopefully not get hurt. This experience occurred to me when I was playing in the shallow area of the sea. I thought it was just plain sand, but no - there were MANY rocks underwater in that area. When the wave came, I stumbled in to a sharp rock and my knee was bruised. Please take caution on this beach, especially for your children. I think there is a lack of safety awareness on the beach. The lifeguards should take more care and clean the beach every morning for any sharp stones and objects lying in the coast. I have written this review to make the safety better at this location so that everyone can enjoy their time at this beautiful beach.

Alvor

We walked from Portimao to Alvor mostly along the coast, although some paths were a bit tricky, so we took some roads. Once in Alvor, we explored the area and headed down to the bay which was really nice. We thought about grabbing something to eat but felt that all those places seemed too touristy (yes, we are tourists), so we went back into town and wandered up a few streets until we found this place.

Indian restaurant
Restaurant Tasty Cuisine is a great place to go for Indian food. The owner and chef are friendly and the food is delicious. It's a value compared to other restaurants you'll find in Portimao. The quality of the atmosphere and service make it hard to compare.
Up there as one of the best curries I’ve ever had - this place is a fantastic curry house and one I return to every year no question. It’s far better than any curry house I’ve been to in the UK. If you’re in Alvor, get yourself to Tasty Cuisine
Tommauduit — Google review
We had an excellent dinner here. Food is so tasty & hot (temperature!) Service is excellent and really quick One of the best Indian meals we ever had, even our daughter loved her curry (2 years of age!) 😊
Claire B — Google review
I had dinner yesterday at this restaurant that looks more like a makeshift, third-world restaurant, a matter of closing your eyes and opening them... recovered from a war... something like that. They are humble and friendly, but that's not enough. The service is slow... slow and slower. The lamb meat is difficult to cut with a knife... In the end, the bill is written by hand on paper, but with an ATM machine. No invoices. A cat hiding with its tail sticking out... We are certainly not in 2025. I am not coming back again for sure.
Nuno M — Google review
My pictures aren’t the best, because I was enjoying the food & service. Great set of lads working. I asked for a Xacuti which is a goan dish, and the chef cooked it without hesitation. Top notch food and service. Keep up the good work 👍😊
Ali M — Google review
Always a pleasure dining at Tasty Cuisine. The staff are polite and friendly. We always sit in the terraced area but there is an indoor dining area where the chairs look more comfortable. The food is always excellent! We had poppadoms with the dips to start then pilau rice, mushroom rice, 2 garlic naans, 2 chicken rogan josh and 1 lamb rogan josh, 1 large beer and small bottle of green wine for €58.20. Would highly recommend and we will definitely return.

Good service and good atmosphere Superb experience nice food tasty …!!
Ankur P — Google review
Nice place with a great view. People are very friendly and food indeed is served quite fast. But we were a bit dissapointed with the dishes, based on the opinions read. Food was only ok, red wine was served too warm. Naan bread was great :).
Aleksandra B — Google review
An amazing little Indian restaurant in Alvor. I've never had a bad meal here, and always make a point of coming back every year we are here. Today we had the chicken pakora to start. My husband had chicken jalfrezi, I had the prawn brunch with pilau rice and a garlic naan. Food was amazing as always!

Restaurant
Pizzeria Napoli is an Italian restaurant in Alvor, owned by an Italian family. The menu offers a variety of authentic dishes including pizzas from Napoli, ravioli, and seafood options. Visitors have praised the amazing pizza with perfect dough and flavorful pasta. Despite some minor issues like dirty glasses and uneven tables, the overall dining experience was delightful thanks to the attentive and efficient service.
This family run pizzeria is incredible. The Italian family really take care of their visitors and were so nice to our kids, working around their many fussy requests. The food was exceptional. We had pizza, gnocchi, and the shrimp special and they were amazing! Wish we’d found this place sooner in our holiday so we get more visits in.

Ate here serval times on our holiday and had a variety of different dishes, would highly recommend 👌 Pizza is amazing, pastas are superb and the prawn and calamari combo is excellent Service is top class too If you in the Alvor I would definitely recommend this place
Jane H — Google review
There's not much to say other than 'Wow.' This restaurant is beyond words regarding its quality of food, incredible and friendly staff, especially the chef, and everything else about it. I've been a resident of Portugal for many years and have never once gone out of my way to review a restaurant. However, for a reason, I had to come and tell you that this is what YOU need to try if you ever go to Alvor, Algarve – it's a must. The best Italian food you can find in Portugal, incredible service, and an extremely good environment.
Miguel C — Google review
Best Pizza in the Algarve! We always drive here from Lagos just for this pizza - it’s that good! The owners are Italian, and they know their craft. Our favorites are the Luna Calzone (filled with gorgonzola!) and Napoli, where the anchovies melt like butter. A great surprise: they use homemade sourdough instead of yeast, making the dough even better, healthier and low gluten! Today, we also tried the Tuna Tartare (from the photo) and wow - it blew us away. Never thought tuna could have so much flavor! Highly recommend! Grazie mille!
Mariia P — Google review
Good pasta and pizza. But pasta/ice cream sizes can be a hit or miss. Tiramisu tiny portion and not worth it, doesn't taste of much, take away prices are the same as dining in also!
Conor T — Google review
This is real Italian deliciousness! The owners are a father/son team and are wonderful! They opened early for us on a rainy day in March. The margarita pizza is outstanding as is their house red wine and tiramisu! Go to Napoli...you will be very happy!
Judy H — Google review
This place has huge potential. The food is lacking in quality though. Pesto on all our dishes tasted like it was from a jar and the main course needed a lot of seasoning. I would not expect this from a real Italian restaurant. Service was good but we were not told about any specials and learned there were some by overhearing the table next to us.
Mi M — Google review
We had such an amazing time at Napoli that we came back the next night! Their pizza was delicious - the crust was just perfect! We also tried their arrabbiata pasta and it was very flavourful! The staff is warm and responsive! Can’t wait to go again!

La Dolce Vita is a charming Italian restaurant known for its pizza buffet, sensational gelato, and ice cream. The menu also includes pasta dishes, salads, risottos, and artisanal pastas. The restaurant's namesake pizza is a must-try and reservations are recommended due to its popularity. With a sophisticated setting offering fine wines and cocktails, it's an ideal spot for a romantic evening or special night out with friends.
We’ve been coming to La Dolce Vita for quite a few years now, whenever we’re in town, and have tried a lot of their menu items. The pizzas are delicious, the pastas flavoursome and the gelato is one of the best we’ve ever had.

Very authentic looking place with tiled tables. The food was quite tasty, but did find spaghetti di mare a bit dry especially as they were cooked al dente, perhaps if they were cooked more or had more sauce, it came with lots of seafood. The only thing we didn’t enjoy were the benches, they were very uncomfortable to sit on and we had to be careful not to fall off as they are not very stable, better seating would be really beneficial.
Zdenka F — Google review
Unfortunately our experience wasn’t good in this restaurant. Coca-cola without gas. I saw that cola is from machine instead of bottle, so maybe that is the problem. We ordered pizza with seafood. On shrimps you can see on the picture vein inside - disgusting 🤢 before we eat we had to make a clean on our pizza . Never again .
Magdalena R — Google review
This place was very busy and popular at night so we decided to try it. The pizza was average but they had a huge menu so maybe we didn’t get the right thing. The crust was thin which we liked and it was good for 2 people to share. Staff was nice but not sure if we’d go back maybe just for gelato .

The food was very tasty, fresh, served quickly, the service was impeccable. Pizza Algarve was awesome! We recommend it.
Chris M — Google review
Looks Can Be Deceiving – A Disappointing Experience From the outside, this pizza place looks like a must-visit. Long queues trail down the street, the building has a trendy, welcoming vibe, and it gives every impression that you're about to discover a local gem. Unfortunately, that anticipation quickly faded once we were seated. The service was, frankly, the weakest I’ve experienced in any of the nine or ten restaurants I’ve visited on the island so far. Staff were disinterested, slow, and seemed overwhelmed, despite the restaurant not being at full capacity once inside. Basic requests felt like a chore, and there was very little warmth or attentiveness. As for the food – average is being generous. The pizza was forgettable, with uninspired toppings and a base that is hard. Definitely not worth the hype or the wait outside. Given the exterior buzz and the crowds, you'd expect something far more special. Sadly, this was all style and no substance. If you're lured in by the queue and the aesthetic, you won’t be alone – but I’d suggest looking elsewhere if you're after genuinely good food and a decent dining experience.

They dont care about allergies, be very careful! We went to this place with a friend and I ordered black seafood pasta. I specifically asked the waiter if it had tomatoes or not as it was not in the description, but that always happenes with tomatoes. He says it doesn't. Then after waiting more than 20 mins he brings me the plate with full of cherry tomatoes. I tell them I specifically asked since Im allergic. Not even saying sorry. Had to say it again to another waiter. Instead of apologising or offering anything he started to argue saying that i was asking about the sauce (not true since im allergic) and that its on the menu. I had to read the menu out loud for him. Terrible service. They didnt care. Imagine it happens with nuts and someone dies because of their carelessness.

Very quiet as it is off season and an early sitting, however this meant a traquil dinner. The food was amazing and the portion sizing meant we got to relive the food experience later at home. Overall a very pleasant experience.

Nestled along Avenida Tomas Cabreira in Portimão, Restaurante F - Food & Wine is a culinary gem that promises an unforgettable dining experience. With its inviting deck offering stunning views of the sandy shores and azure sea, this modern Portuguese bistro serves up beautifully crafted dishes that are as pleasing to the eye as they are to the palate. Indulge in delicacies like perfectly cooked blackened octopus and exquisite sea urchin mousse served right in its shell.
Had the pleasure of having dinner and lunch here, a beautiful restaurant with a stunning view of the beach. The food is made with so much care and attention to detail and the flavours the chef bring out of their dishes is out of this world. I can see why this restaurant has a michelin ☆! The staff is so friendly and helpful and truely make your experience at "F." one to remember. They are kind, truely care about your experience and have amazing recommendations. Their wine assortiment (and drinks in general) are amazing and they also sell wines at their wine shop. Go here if you want the best restaurant in Portimao!

Food was good but for a 100 euros bill I'd expect service to be good too. We waited about 40+ minutes for our mains. When I asked the waiter if they had forgotten our order and he assured me they didn't only for our dishes to magically appear 2 min later. (Next time just be honest) Then we waited around 20 minutes after we finished our mains for someone to ask us if we wanted desert. They also took forever to get us the bill. In the end we spent two and a hlf hours in there. The most frustrating part was that the tables around us were getting served. Both tables next to us arrived AFTER we did at the restaurant and were served and left before us. I don't know if they didn't like us for some reason but I felt ignored most of the time there. Unfortunately I cannot recommend this restaurant.

Bread and butter starter was delicious. Burrata was creamy, and the roasted cherry tomatoes with it were very flavorful. The ratatouille was tasty, rich tomato flavor in the sauce. My friend enjoyed the steak and potatoes. The fruit plate for dessert was a waste of money; very few pieces of fruit and nothing "exotic" despite the menu description. We got lucky to walk in just before dinner rush, but reservations would be a good idea. Took a long time to get the attention of the staff to get our check, despite them clearing the table, so they knew we didn't have anything left. View of the beach and ocean is pretty. It got chilly as we were sitting outside in the evening.

What a wonderful restaurant with a beautiful outlook. The owner was fantastic, charismatic & attentive. The food was delicious and there are so many wines to choose from. Our only minor point was that after we finished our main we sat for over 30 mins before anyone revisited our table. Overall a wonderful evening and would definitely go again.

Enjoyed a wonderful dinner with good service and amazing food. Waiter suggested the wine and items and it was delicious. Loved the lobster and Caesar which was an unconstructed salad. Lobster slices and so tender! Bibb lettuce with condiments on side. Loved the grilled octopus with boiled potatoes. Out of this world and tender! Also loved the spider crab and scallop ravioli in a light sauce, all fresh and homemade pasta. Put it at the top of your dining list!

During our first visit to the Algarve in summer 2025, we dined at Restaurante F. While the presentation and flavor of the food were excellent, the overall service fell short of expectations. On our initial visit, the restaurant was nearly empty, yet it took a considerable amount of time before we were attended to, and the wait for our food was unusually long. When we inquired about making a reservation for another evening, the waiter simply directed us to book online or by phone rather than assisting us directly — an approach that felt impersonal, particularly for an establishment of this standard. The following day we returned to make a reservation in person and were offered a table for the next evening. Upon arrival, we politely requested to be seated closer to the terrace, as my husband is a smoker. The manager declined, stating that with so many reservations they could not accommodate everyone — despite the restaurant being nearly empty at the time. Instead, we were seated at a table directly in front of the restroom entrance, with constant foot traffic from both guests and staff. Given the unaccommodating attitude and uncomfortable seating arrangement, we ultimately chose to leave and dined instead at Café del Mar, which — though larger and busier — provided a much warmer and more professional service. In my view, Michelin recognition should extend beyond the quality of the food to include the entire guest experience. Unfortunately, Restaurante F did not live up to that standard.
Tatiele B — Google review
Very good food and prices, but not exceptional for the Michelin guide. Views are excellent, but you don’t see anything when it’s dark. Wine selection is special! We had oysters, wagyu beef tartar, which had an interesting twist, and then beef entrecôte, and unfortunately it was brought on the cold stone plate.

We hadn't reserved, but came early and were lucky to get a table. Service a bit slow, not coming by as quick or often as I would have preferred. But they were kind and the food made up for it. Wish we would have gone more days, so I could've have tried more dishes from their menu.

Ruccula takes pride in using locally sourced, high-quality ingredients to ensure the freshness and rich taste of each dish. One the best meals we have ever had in Portugal. Started when we walked in the door. Starter was the salmon fish cake to die for. Before the main course arrived we were served a small sampling of lemon sorbet to refresh our palette. These are the types of things that show the sign of a true culinary skill. The mains were all excellent and before paying the check we were offered an aperitif to finish things off on the house. Have reserved for next week already. 10 out of 10.

This was an amazing find. It was fully booked, we called the day before and the owner Bela managed to find us a table for the early sitting. We went with our 2 young kids and they provided the best service for us and them. From the "children's menu off the card which consisted of juicy chicken and steamed veg with a beautiful mushroom sauce " to our exquisite sea bream, lamb and not to mention all the sides. This was THE BEST meal of our trip Thank you to Bela and all the team for being so accommodating. It was a beautiful evening

This is the first time we have been to this restaurant. Although we didn't have a reservation, they very kindly fitted us in. However, I would recommend making a reservation. The service was excellent, explaining all the dishes on the menu and ensuring that the wine was right for you, etc. The food we chose was really excellent as the pictures below show. I would highly recommend this restaurant.

I have to say it is one of the best restaurants in Alvor. Very delicious food and great wine. The atmosphere is amazing and the whole team/staff is friendly and good organised. I would recommend the lamb shank and the steak but the fish is also very tasty. To finish the lime tart was absolutely fantastic. However, you should make a reservation in advance.

We decided to try this place out based on the reviews and the fact that it always seems to be booked. Was very disappointed overall. The food was nothing like what is described in the reviews. It was bland and tasteless. May be one of the worst lamb shanks I have had. It did not fall off the bone and the sauce was horrible. If you are looking for good flavourful food - this is not the place for you. The portions were also far too much. Based on the clientele in the restaurant, I think it is the amount of food and personal service received from the staff that have boosted the reviews - clearly not the food though.

The restaurant offers a delightful dining experience with its fresh and flavorful fish and seafood dishes, including grilled sardines, lobster, and perfectly fried sardines. Situated in the heart of Alvor, A Lota provides a casual atmosphere perfect for enjoying a relaxed meal while indulging in the excellent selection of seafood.
The best restaurant I had the pleasure of trying in Alvor! I loved every part of the experience – the setting, the ambiance, the attentive service, and, of course, the exceptional food. I started with the sardines accompanied by peppers and potato foam, which were absolutely delightful. For the main course, I enjoyed a perfectly cooked octopus, along with an incredible tiger prawn and a tender steak. Everything was beautifully prepared and full of flavor. I paired it with a refreshing sangria, and to finish, indulged in a rich and decadent chocolate dessert. Highly recommend!

Wow, what an experience! We sat close to the grill and I could see the fish being prepared and cooked, which was quite something for a keen cook. Our starter choice was interesting and delicious, followed by a whole sea bream, de-boned at our table and served with perfectly cooked vegetables and new potatoes. The theatre of it all was fascinating. I loved watching the two chefs preparing and cooking a wide variety of beautiful fresh fish, and the taste didn’t disappoint, it was sensational. Our desserts of cheesecake and passion fruit meringue were also delicious, and we felt properly treated. Highly recommended if you love fish, they really know how to cook it.

We went to A Lota as a couple looking for a last minute table and they managed to squeeze us in as it was pretty busy! The staff were so friendly, one member helped us choose a bottle of wine and Bruno in particular looked after us really well. We obviously had to have seafood with it being so close to the front so chose the grilled tuna steak and the octopus. We both agreed we’d never had seafood like it, so fresh and tasty 🤤 would probably have a starter or add some sides next time as the portions weren’t huge, but still delicious. 10/10 would recommend 👌🏼

A friend recommended this place to us, and it truly lived up to the praise! The vibe in A Lota is relaxed and welcoming, and the staff were incredibly attentive and friendly. We started with oysters, which were fresh and delicious. For mains, my husband enjoyed the fish of the day while I had a beautifully prepared scallop and prawn curry - both were excellent. We finished off with lovely desserts and a glass of port. Can’t wait to return!😊

We came here for lunch, and the restaurant was quite empty. Yes, the fish is very very fresh, and you can choose which one you eat. However, we waited more than one hour for our food (there were only 2 other tables with clients) and the food was quite disappointing. The fish was ok, we had 3-4 broccolis and potatoes each as side dish. But I want to mention the prices: for a fish initially announced as 0,95kg, we had 370g of meat (I do a diet, I weighed the food). The bill was 65€, and we don’t feel like we ate for the price, left hungry. Overall, a very awkward experience, where I felt I was being constantly pushed to consume (tapas, wine), waited for more than one hour for a sub optimal, overpriced meal.

We are food enthusiasts who love exploring different restaurants, and our visits to SQUASH have been absolutely delightful, especially thanks to the excellent service. We’ve been to SQUASH three times. The first time, I ordered the salmon steak, which was tender, juicy, and perfectly cooked. On our second visit, I tried the traditional seafood risotto, bursting with fresh ocean flavors. For our third visit, I had the steak, which was cooked to perfection and incredibly satisfying. Every experience at SQUASH has been wonderful. I highly recommend this restaurant to everyone. The chef is both professional and skilled, creating dishes that exceed expectations. This really is an truly lovely evening meal experience. Tucked away off the main strip, slightly obscure location but bare with it. I have been twice this week and will try sneak in a third visit before we leave. Traditional, some would say a charming old fashioned experience, that adds to the experience. Food is second to none, Traditional not fancy but fancy enough to be higher end. I'm addicted to the steak on a stone but the seafood is the real winner here. Such great value too!!!

Very professional and welcoming. However the food.. Very high quality ingredients but the portion sizes are poor. I ordered the hot stone steak and we had one tiny bowl of veg to share between the two of us. We asked for more but never got them. So if one person are here, they've get half of what is in the picture on the right (veg bowl). It's very disappointing. I wouldn't return

Yesterday we had dinner at restaurant Squash. We were actually surprised to see that this place had some negative reviews, because for us it was truly an excellent experience. The service was outstanding, and it didn’t take long at all, contrary to what some reviews mentioned. The staff worked hard and were very friendly. It was also a nice touch that they showed us the catch of the day and the available aperitifs. We chose the fresh oysters and the tuna tartare to start, and then enjoyed the cataplana with assorted seafood. It was absolutely delicious! The terrace looked romantic, and you don’t notice the hustle and bustle of the busy boulevard. Definitely a place we would recommend.

An excellent restaurant with a must-see view overlooking Praia da Rocha. They have a wide selection of fish and Portuguese dishes, as well as a solid wine list on offer. Great views, great food. Everything about this place was A-rated. The views were immaculate, the seafood was fresh, the staff was wonderful, and the breeze hit just right. There was enough variety, while keeping the menu simple. A bit pricey, but nothing unreasonable and it was indeed worth it.

We had a fantastic experience here and can genuinely recommend this restaurant. We ordered the grilled dorado (sea bream), and it was simply perfect. The fish was noticeably fresh, expertly cooked, and the seasoning was just right, it truly brought out the natural flavor. The portions were substantial, offering very good value for the price. We got a taxi to the restaurant, we were welcomed in and got seats beside the window. We immediately noticed ants crawling on the skirting board but due to the high reviews we decided to proceed without causing a scene. During the meal, a napkin fell under the table from my girlfriend's lap. She intended to pick it up but was afraid to do so because the ants had started crawling on it. We began to rush to finish our food and pay so we can leave immediately without causing a scene. Soon after, my girlfriend was mortified to discover ants crawling around her chest and neck from the floor. We asked to speak to the manager who assured us that this had never happened before and that there is nothing he can do about it because it is caused by the natural environment and location of the restaurant, which we do not believe to be acceptable for a restaurant because they can contaminate the food and spread bacteria. He offered us a refund, but unfortunately after we got home we discovered the refund was for someone else's bill, and we had been given less money than we should have been. I would like to believe that received the wrong amount is just a mistake, and normally I would privately email the restaurant to resolve the matter but as far as I can tell from google maps there is no telephone number or email address to contact. As for the food, the taste was good but the seafood was not very fresh. We were quite disappointed in this regard, as we had been recommended to this restaurant by several online reviews and had high hopes. We have made a complaint to the food health and safety association ASAE in hopes to raise awareness for the restaurant and for us as customers. In summary, there were pest issues that the manager claimed to have no control over, and we unfortunately the seafood was not fresh.
Gerard M — Google review
Beautiful view from the window. Lucky table was by the window and view directly on the water. Nice music. Service was a bit slow. But it is not so critical. It is difficult to say about the dishes themselves. I liked the fish soup, it reminded me of solyanka. Kebab with fish and shrimp sounds interesting. But in fact, it's pieces of fish and two shrimps laid out in a row, plus salad and potatoes. I don't remember the name. I liked the meat, it was juicy and not dry.

Perched on top of a cliff with breathtaking sea views, this traditional restaurant offers delicious local dishes in a truly scenic setting. 👌 The spacious layout is great for families, with high chairs and toys available for kids. While the menu is available in multiple languages for tourists, communication was occasionally challenging as some staff had limited English, and unfortunately, our dessert never made it to the table.

Beautifully presented food, but sadly the taste didn’t match the looks. My Black Pork Cheeks were far too salty, and my son’s Bourbon Bacon Burger was dense and overcooked. Only the BBQ Spare Ribs and Steak in the Frying Pan stood out as enjoyable. Food prices are fair, but drinks are wildly overpriced – €6 for a Guinness was a shocker. Overall, style over substance.
Leszek K — Google review
Was hovering between 3 & 4 stars for overall review. Service was faultless. Incredibly friendly and very attentive. Cocktails and wine also great, highly recommend the Quinta da Lapa Syrah, delicious. Now for the food. Having read the rave reviews, have to say we were disappointed. The starters (braised mozzarella, buffalo wings and breaded mushrooms) were all absolutely average and the steak was, despite the signs and write ups, also, very average. My daughter and I had sirloin and it was cooked OK, not amazing, just ok. All sauces and sides are extra cost (this is unusual in Portugal) so be aware. The bearnaise sauce was a bit too "mustardy" for me. My son had the oxtail which was lovely, although bizarrely served with rice - mash would work better. Desserts were fine, tasty but not extraordinary. Anyone who is a coeliac please be aware of very limited menu options. I'd chosen Faustinos because it stated it catered for gluten free but there was only 1 starter and 1 dessert, plus no gluten free bread. Unremarkable.

Went out for my Wife's birthday, The staff were friendly, polite, and spoke to us about the menu before we asked for a table. & We're part of the reason we went here... My wife went for the Lamb shank which was recommended by the waiter, and oh my god, it was something else. Came with mash & Veg and literally fell off the bone I've never seen anything like it... I had steak, which was melt in your mouth amazing, it did however require a side otherwise you get just steak, they do however advise you of this... Starters were nice, but we're blown apart by how amazing the mains were. The lamb especially. Dessert was cheesecake and mousse, both simple elegant well made and a great finish to an amazing meal, and quite frankly A 5* experience... (Oh and when the staff handed the bill to my wife and jokingly said "The Bill to the boss?" And she laughed and said "Not on my birthday, a couple of the staff appeared and sang her happy birthday) Total surprise and made her night...

Although there are many Indian restaurants in the area, it's difficult to find one that serves authentic, well prepared Indian food. The Indian Garden has become our new favorite, tucked away on a quiet side street in Alvor with a nice dining room on the ground floor and a terrace upstairs when the weather is nice. The room is small but comfortable and nicely decorated, the service is prompt but not obtrusive and the recommendations were great. Transportation in Portimao

Getting around Portimao can be a little daunting if you’re new here. We can help list some of the major public transportation methods if you don’t want to rely on a car.

Faro International Airport

International airport
Airport
Faro International Airport is the main airport serving the Algarve region in Portugal, offering flights to various European destinations and convenient coach links to Faro. The city itself is known for its family-friendly atmosphere, charming streets, and beautiful beaches. The airport is described as quiet and spacious, with modern facilities and helpful staff. While it's a small and easy-to-navigate airport, some travelers find the pedestrian bridges leading to the terminal to be inconveniently long.
Nice airport , good take off and landing time. Good stores & great cafes. Two dogs were sitting on the laps comfortably & flying …
Dragon S — Google review
A small but efficient airport that handles the Algarve region’s traffic well, especially during peak summer months. It’s relatively modern, clean, and easy to navigate, with relatively quick check-in and security processes compared to larger international airports. The layout is pretty simple, and signage is clear, which makes arrivals and departures smooth even for first-time visitors. There are a few cafés, souvenir shops, and duty-free options inside, but food and retail choices are limited, so it’s a good idea to eat or shop before arriving if you have specific needs. Car rental services are located just outside the terminal, and there are plenty of taxis available, though prices can spike in high season. Public transport into Faro is possible via bus but not always frequent, so plan accordingly. It’s a functional airport that gets the job done without much fuss…just be prepared for crowds and longer lines in peak season, especially at passport control. Arriving at least 2 hours before your flight is recommended.

October! 0/5 stars. This has got to be the worst airport I've ever visited and I've been to many. There's an EU part and a non EU part. The EU part has 1 restaurant and then nothing but some machines. There's about 100.000 passengers in there (obvs not but you know what I mean), so it's extremely crowded and on the verge of being dangerous as people are rushing to get food. I've never seen so many people in an airport before. People are sitting everywhere on the floors, the stairs and next to the gates. It's greatly under dimensioned for the amount of passengers. Meanwhile the non EU part looks very still, spacious and with loads of restaurants and cafes like Burger king and coffee shops. We had trouble breathing and almost passed out due to the crowds in the EU terminal, it was a very very uncomfortable experience. Also: the airport lacks screens to check gates and the webpage does not display gate information. The WiFi also sucks. There's one toilet in the whole terminal so expect long lines.
Hanne H — Google review
Quite easy to get around this airport, quite well-signed,members of staff happy to assist,in directing us. Yeah, passport control is extremely busy, however, we were quite fortunate to have only been in a (reasonably quick-moving,queue,for half an hour), as opposed to an hour and half eg,as iv read on other travellers reviews. There was one particular female member of staff who was very good (though a little scary! Haha), on directing people to the desks so as to have the queue moving, reasonably quickly. Shops are OK,however, not many cafes, and I feel, not enough seating either-if the cafes are full. Anyway, it could be worse! The toilets are clean- at least u didn't pay to pee, unlike brussels South Airport, for example.
Norma M — Google review
This airport is an absolute disgrace for Europe. The customs control for EU citizens is a complete disaster – waiting times are 10 to 15 minutes, and the staff look like they simply don’t want to work. The pace is unbelievably slow, with some officers literally dozing off at their desks. For European standards, this is completely unacceptable – it’s honestly worse than some airports in Indonesia. If this is supposed to be the gateway for EU travellers, then the management seriously needs to rethink how things are organized and how the staff perform their duties. Instead of standing around and doing nothing, they should realize that their job is to serve passengers, not to delay them.

Very nice little airport, mostly used by Ryanair. It's worth flying back to Germany from here.

Loved our holiday in Portugal, but one thing that was terrible was this airport. We arrived mid morning and it became an absolutely terrible experience. It took nearly 1.5 hours to get through passport control. It was organised chaos, people were skipping all over the place and there wasn't nearly enough staff in the building. Everything was well sign posted when we got through so that was the only positive.
