Art Museums
Nestled in the heart of Freiburg, the Augustiner Museum is a captivating destination for art enthusiasts and history buffs alike. Housed within a beautifully restored former monastery church, this museum showcases an impressive collection of artworks spanning from the Middle Ages to the 19th century. The architectural brilliance of Christoph Mackler has transformed this historic site into a modern gallery that enhances the viewing experience, allowing visitors to appreciate each piece from various perspectives.
This museum was really nice and surprisingly extensive! I was amazed at the very beginning! You get to see some really cool statues and learn about some really interesting history!
Ms. K — Google review
A not very large museum, housed in the building of a former church. In general, you will see religious art. A unique and interesting fact is that there is a small room where you can watch the restoration of some paintings live through the window. There is a small painting exhibition in the attic. On the ground floor is an temporary exhibition with objects from the former German colonies in Africa. If you are not a fan of religious art, you visit it in about an hour.
Paul C — Google review
Excellent museum. Not very big but quite interesting, especially because of the gothic statues and (pseudo) gargoyles that you normally could have admired only from a huge distance on the cathedral tower. You can walk up to them and also see them from above. Similarly they have some beautiful stained glass that you can admire from up close. Apart from these statues and the glass they have a fine collection of medieval paintings and (other) sculptures. Another bonus is their organ, which was played at noon on the Saturday that I visited.
Rob N — Google review
An excellent museum. I truly enjoyed the wonderful artworks on display. The lady at the front desk was very kind and welcoming. However, while visiting the second floor, one of the gallery attendants seemed a bit overly strict. I did not touch any artwork and kept a reasonable distance of about 30 cm, yet she repeatedly said "No, no, no" and followed me around, which I found quite unpleasant. Despite this, I greatly appreciate the museum and the effort put into providing such a remarkable experience.
Stephan — Google review
The museum is set in an old church which has been renovated and converted. Beautiful building with an outstanding roof showing the ancient oak beams. All the pieces are of religious significance and all beautifully maintained and preserved. Unfortunately the staff watched you like a hawk which really put you on edge...
Cliff B — Google review
Fantastic museum in an impressively renovated building with beautiful art from the middle ages to 19th century.
Wouter B — Google review
A must-visit musuem while in Freiburg! Beautiful museum full of amazing art pieces from the medieval ages set in an ancient monastery. All the descriptions are well written and the museum is organized well. Much of the museum has been well preserved and restored, and there is a lot of construction on the exterior but it very minimally affected my experience inside. Great addition of an elevator for those handicapped or not capable of going up many flights of stairs. The special exhibits on the bottom of the museum and top were very engaging and well curated.
Let's H — Google review
During my visit on a Saturday there was supposedly a fire alarm and all guests had to be removed from the building. The Museum closed down much earlier than it was supposed to. We couldn't get back inside later to complete our visit, no money back or a voucher either. Many guests didn't even manage to go to the first floor. I missed the third floor, which I really wanted to see. This has never happened to me before in a museum. An unpleasant experience.

Schauinsland, one of the highest mountains in the Black Forest, is a popular destination near Freiburg. Visitors can easily reach the summit by taking the Schauinslandbahn cable car, which offers stunning panoramic views over Freiburg, the Vosges Mountains, and the Alps. At 1,219 meters high, the summit station also features a 31-meter-tall lookout tower known as Eugen-Keidel tower.
Beutiful area to walk! A must do place for hikes for those that are visiting Freiburg or the area and locals alike!
Jason H — Google review
Had a lovely visit to Schauinsland last week. Because of a temperature inversion, we got lucky and could see the Alps! Great views from the tower.
Norma K — Google review
The view from cable car is stunning and breathtaking. But the kids playground and the tower were closed for some reason
Ekaterina C — Google review
Lovely location, fantastic view from the tower - which is now open again. Great walking in the area. Wilder than Feldberg, if not quite as high. Would highly recommend getting the cable car to enhance the experience. Well worth the ride - great way of experiencing the wild landscape.
Charlotte G — Google review
One of the best views in the black forest in my opinion. It is quite easy to arrive by public transport from Freiburg, and there are many trails to hike and even a small lake behind the mountain. The cable car is an easy and fun way to get to the top. When I visited the tower was closed, which is a shame but still amazing views all around.
Tal B — Google review
Great landmark for hiking. Bring your book as well as a drink. Sit at the top and relax. You’ll have an amazing view of the valley. Super beautiful paths for walk. If you have a semester ticket or a regional ticket, you’ll get a discount for the cable car.
Amir F — Google review
Cable car pulls you to the top of the mountain and rest of the way is hiking. There is a red line for steep hike, whereas a green line for easygoers. We took the red line to the summit. Incredible views of the black Forest and the hike was super nice through the thick pine forest. Highly recommended.
Sarani B — Google review
Nice place, decent fun experience with the cable car up. Scenery was nice but not amazing. It is something different for people who want to get away from the city. The ease of reaching here through public transport is a great plus point too.

Markthalle

Food court
Markthalle in Freiburg is a vibrant food market located just a few steps away from Martinstor. It offers a diverse culinary experience with options ranging from Italian, Middle Eastern, and Asian cuisines to French, Indian, Brazilian, and German specialties. Housed in the halls of a former printing press, this gastronomic hub features over 20 stalls resembling a culinary bazaar. In the evening, the atmosphere comes alive with live music at various bars and restaurants within the market.
I have come home from my travels over a week ago still thinking about the food from the Afghan food stall called Kabul. It felt like a warm hug from a grandma. I have only tried Afghan food once before when I was a child, so as soon as I saw the rice on display, it was like I was being drawn to it. I tried to use google translate but no luck so I just looked at the pictures and ordered the beef with rice and salad. It was so good I could fly back just to eat it again. It cost €14 for a plate and it’s a food hall so you just sit anywhere to eat. They had this amazingggg red chili sauce on the top of their counter which just elevated the dish. I was with friends and they got the Brazilian dish and they couldn’t finish their food because they said it was quite bland 😂 but ended up sharing my plate with me (even though I really didn’t want to share because it was so good) And then another friend of mine got the mixed bowl and they said the okra was really good. The servers spoke English and it was super quick service, very simple and although I was thinking I’d try some German food on my quick visit to the town, I will now always bang on about the Afghan food 😂
S A — Google review
A small food hall with good selection of cuisines, we ordered the German & Puerto Rico food, they were big portion and very flavorful. If you ran out of food options, come here and you will be happy you do.
Hong L — Google review
It’s not a regular food court! They have live DJ and cute disco ball on the weekend evening. But everyone needs to go to the asian food stall at the corner , close to the stage. I went there everyday along 3 days in Freiburg. As an Asian coming from Asia, i could tell that they serve really good quality of food and flavor bomb!
Angelia M — Google review
Dogs not allowed, saw the sign outside! Just walked inside to have a look alone but couldn’t buy anything. As I was in there during lunch time it was very busy. Lots of choices. Indian, Afghan, Badische, Spanish, Chinese etc. yes there were seating options. Pity, dogs were not permitted!
T. K — Google review
The Markthalle in Freiburg has something to suit every taste. I went for Afghan food and wasn’t disappointed. The prices were absolutely fair – overall Freiburg turned out to be surprisingly affordable. I’d definitely come back here on my next visit to Freiburg.
Thomas M — Google review
Nice place with different kind of food from the world 🌎. I tasted the Viet food pho and it was good enough. I appreciated more the ambiance than the food there. You can easily find tables and also discuss with other people if you want.
Caféchat M — Google review
Not very big, but it offers different food options from different parts of the world. Also, you can buy fruits, sweets, fish and seafood. There is also a bar. An interesting place, where I would gladly return!
Paul C — Google review
A relatively small markthalle, very overcrowded and very diverse food. I tried from Thailand sushi and green Thai curry. Sushi were freshly made. Absolutely delicious and the Thai curry was very good with crunchy vegetables.

Schwabentor

Mentioned on
+8 other lists
Schwabentor is a famous sight in Freiburg, known for being one of the gates in the city wall during medieval times. The Old Town features little creeks flowing through its streets, providing a refreshing experience and improving the climate. Located south of Freiburg is the Black Forest, renowned for its dense forests and iconic Black Forest cherry cake.
Freiburg has two surviving medieval city gates: Martinstor and Schwabentor, both originally part of the city's 13th-century fortifications. Martinstor, the older of the two, was significantly modified in the early 1900s with Neo-Gothic additions that gave it its current height and clock tower. Schwabentor was similarly enlarged in the 20th century. It features a mural depicting a Swabian merchant who, according to legend, tried to buy Freiburg with sacks of salt.
Kent W — Google review
One of the gates of the old town. Very beautiful and very nicely restored. An interesting old-new contrast is given by the tram line that passes through the arch of the gate, on which modern trams pass.
Paul C — Google review
A very beautiful avenue full of clothing, food, cosmetics shops, a very special clock building, part of the entrance gates to the city

A very beautiful monument, being one of the only 2 remaining entrences in the Old Frieburg Citadel, along with Martinstor.
Codrin G — Google review
Beautiful architecture. Worth the walk. Besodes, you can find a great bakery below the gate. You can find a good variety of sandwiches and sweet breads. Perfect spot for a photo and snack pause ⏸️!!
Daniel G — Google review
The Schwabentor is one of the only two remaining old city entrances of the fortified city of Freiburg. It is a beautiful tower with a special architecture that lets you into the city center. From here you can walk into the center to all the shopping streets. It is a beautiful building with the painting that depicts the legend of Schwaben. With its merchant carrying barrels full of money to buy the city of Freiburg. The idea was not only absurd but even funnier when they found out his wife secretly took the money and replaced it with sand and stones 😂
Nikita N — Google review
Nice gate that leads to the hill on the edge of the city with many walking and hiking paths. Its in good condition and a main sight in the city.

Martinstor is a reconstructed gate tower originally built for defense in the early 13th century, featuring a large clock. The oldest part of a 66-meter-high tower, Martinstor was rebuilt at the end of the 19th century to accommodate traffic flow.

The Freiburg Cathedral, also known as the Cathedral of Our Lady, is a stunning example of Gothic architecture located in the heart of Freiburg's old town. The cathedral features a square tower that offers panoramic views of the picturesque Black Forest.
The market was absolutely perfect! The atmosphere was vibrant and welcoming, filled with lively stalls and an amazing variety of products. It was a pleasure just to walk around, surrounded by wonderful scents and the energy of a bustling market. What really stood out to me was the friendliness of the vendors – every interaction was warm and pleasant, which made the whole experience even more enjoyable. It’s the kind of place where you can spend hours exploring, tasting, and soaking up the local culture. Truly a must-visit!
Barak W — Google review
A large and very impressive place, with beautiful interior architecture. The main hall is stunning and worth the visit. However, the climb to the top is not particularly special. Once you reach the upper level, you can pay extra to go a bit higher, but it’s unnecessary and not worth the money. The stairs are narrow, making it extremely difficult to pass when people are coming in the opposite direction — the same problem on the way down. You can also see the bell up close, but be aware that the sound is deafening.
Yoav A — Google review
Freiburg Cathedral is absolutely beautiful, full of incredible details everywhere you look. The architecture is stunning. Every corner of the cathedral shows amazing craftsmanship. It’s truly a must-see! ✨
Jessica — Google review
It's free to visit no entry fee needed. Loved the tinted glasswork and the atmosphere. Very peaceful as other churches around. What catches the eye is the architecture. Worth a visit.
Siddhartha A — Google review
Cathedral’s history started being Romanesque church around 1200, transitioned to Gothic structure in 1250s (inspired by nearby Strasbourg cathedral) with West Tower being completed in 1330. While the city was heavily bombed in WW2, cathedral survived with minor damage (likely due to being notable landmark for Allied Bombers).
Mike Z — Google review
I love visiting Cathedrals! Each city has their own unique church and style and I just love the architectural designs on them! This one was one of my favorites! The interior was just breathtaking and you can tell how much effort went into the design because each statue is so intricate!
Ms. K — Google review
I became aware of Freiburger Münster on my first day in Freiburg. It's really hard to miss the sight of it. I visited it on my first night when it was lit up. The enormous size of it and amount of decorative detail left me speechless. One day I noticed that the front entrance was open for visitors, so I took the opportunity. I wasn't prepared for the grandure that awaited me inside. The vast volume of the interior left my mouth hanging open many times as I analyzed the columns and ceilings. I spent alot of time studying the stained glass windows which depict many vivid stories. What's great about the windows is that you absolutely can't experience them the same way from outside. The quality of light inside the cathedral, from the outside light when it hits the windows, is only fit for a structure this caliber. Please, out of respect, obey the signs and dont walk over or through the areas which are clearly marked off. Also, please dont take videos and photo's of the inside, just enjoy the experience of the moment.

A stunning gothic cathedral with beautiful stained glass windows. Definitely worth a visit from outside and inside. Would suggest going at night to enjoy the views.

University Library Freiburg

Library
The University Library Freiburg is a modern architectural marvel located in the heart of the city. Its futuristic design, resembling a black diamond, has sparked both admiration and controversy. The library's glass facade reflects the surrounding historic buildings, creating a striking contrast. Inside, visitors can explore an extensive collection of books and media while enjoying the contemporary atmosphere. With spacious study areas and panoramic views from the upper floors, it offers a unique experience for students and visitors alike.
This library is open to everyone and provides excellent facilities. Friendly staff who speak English well. Internet access is available through eduroam. Comfortable seating arrangements, with power outlets conveniently placed at nearly every seat. A particularly helpful feature is the availability of monitors equipped with HDMI cables, allowing easy connection to personal laptops for dual-screen usage. The library has clearly defined quiet and discussion areas, making it suitable for varied needs. Located conveniently in the city center, it's a peaceful and comfortable place for study or work.
Kevin P — Google review
The only good part of it is that you can use it without a student card. But other than that you can not drink anything in there even coffee. They do not have a specific reason for this and one of them once told me we make any rule that we want and you can not even argue😒. The personnel are so rude. And they create every week another ridiculous rule again to make it even harder. For example this week they said even downstairs you can not drink anything coffee if it is not from the coffee place they have which for me that am-not a student there is impossible to buy anything on Sunday’s because their machine just takes student card and not cash. Also it is very noisy and it is anything but a library. Non of the staff is doing anything about noise but the coffee is a big issue 😏.Anyway if you are not obliged probably it is better to use another library. They could charge people for their usage instead of being free and be impolite.
Maryam M — Google review
Despite its futuristic look, the University Library is barely usable. The building's design causes a total collapse of mobile internet upon entry—browsing is impossible. For a modern learning facility, this is unacceptable and defeats its purpose. The structure does not harmonise with the elegant city centre architecture. Service is equally poor: Security staff are extremely overbearing and lecturing. I witnessed them creating conflict every time I visited. Urgent staff reorientation is needed. Positive: Excellent hours, until midnight, and a central location. But the frustration strongly outweighs these benefits. Major improvements required.
NPG “ — Google review
This is a beautiful modern building but, alas, not very visitor friendly! Lockers are only available if you have a student card, and the library has no public reading rooms. Also, paying at the cafeteria is difficult. The staff at the cafeteria were lovely, however, and made an exception to accept my 50 euros cash. As a university lecturer, I have absolutely seen more welcoming libraries elsewhere.
Monika B — Google review
If anyone is wondering — it’s not for external students. I was kicked out for charging my phone, the staff said I’m using their electricity and asked me to leave…
Hannah — Google review
The library is open to the public, but only students can use wi-fi. When asked, the staff always makes silly excuses which anyone with any knowledge of IT knows are ridiculous and they could very easily find a solution, if they wanted to. Edit May 9th: The library makes their usual ridiculous reply. You are hiding behind Eduroam. Anyone with any knowledge of IT knows you could easily make a 2nd network, keep EDURoam private to students, and the 2nd a public network available to all. Please stop making yourselves look foolish using this excuse.
Lu C — Google review
Nice and quiet place to study. You can also get some food and coffee but only with a student card or cash
Daniel S — Google review
A great place to study.... The internet though is a bit unsteady....there is a coffee inside and a designated space for eating and drinking.... The building's design is so modern... The place is also safe and accesible

Mountains
Schlossberg is a popular mountain in Freiburg, offering stunning views of the city's ancient Old Town. It is a favorite spot for locals to relax in the beer garden, dine at the restaurant, and admire the beautiful sunset. The mountain was named after the Zahringen Dukes who built Burghalden Castle there almost 1000 years ago. Today, only ruins of this castle remain.
Beautiful views of the city. Definitely worth the visit, but unless you're fit enough, do yourself a favour and take the Schlossbergbahn from Stadtgarten (take any tram to Europaplatz). Once out of the funicular, there's a flat path with breaks for views - suitable for those with more limited physical ability. For those with the stamina, take the steep climbs up to the tower - the steeper the climb the shorter the route.
Ant P — Google review
Beautiful place! Schlossberg tower is 35mt high and you can join the view of the city from there. Of course to get to the tower, a walk in the forest is recommended.

Ajeesh-Musthafa — Google review
If you enjoy hiking, discovering old cities, walking in forests, cultural visits to old castles, this place is absolutely right for you. A must visit for adventurers who come to Freiburg. There are two ways to go up the mountain; the long paved and slightly inclined road which of course is longer, and the other steep, spiral short way to the peak. I took the shorter one upward and the longer on my way down to enjoy the beauty of both. Up at the highest point you find a historical compass map for the directions and cities inside Germany. On your way up, you’ll pass by 2 telescopes through which you can view any direction you want really close. To use them you’ll need 50 cents or 1 euro coins. There is a nice restaurant with breath taking view where you can enjoy your meal right on the mountain of Schlossberg. Suitable for families, couples, friends and children but with care and caution. Take a lot of photos there and enjoy the nature!

The food and dishes are delicious serve and deco nicely and with a reasonable quantity of food that at the beginning can seemed it's not enough but believe me it is! The menu has a variety of food but as a suggestion will be nice to have more vegetarian options. Highly recommended worth a visit for a great culinary experience .

We stopped by for lunch after hearing some good things, and overall, it was a pleasant enough experience. The staff were friendly and welcoming, and the atmosphere was cosy. I tried a few of the soups, they were definitely the highlight for me. Each had a distinct flavour and the seasoning was spot on. The lentil soup, in particular, was lovely warm and comforting. That said, I wasn’t completely blown away by the rest of the meal. The mains lacked a bit of depth and could’ve done with more creativity. It felt a little on the safe side🤝 Still, the service was great and the team did their best to make us feel at home. I might come back for a bowl of soup and a quiet afternoon, but I’d probably try somewhere else for something more memorable. Thanks.

They served the worse ice-cream I have ever had. It was full of ice pieces inside and god knows how old it was. I ordered bcz I thought they do fresh. Its just turist scam. Only the view they have nothing else.

My experience here was very brief. I came on a Wednesday, 1,5 hours before closing time, for a piece of schwarzwald kuchen and a beer. Dattler was recommended to me for one of the best places to get schwarzwald kuchen. As I arrived, the waiter was very accommodating and friendly. Throughout the night the various staff have been very polite and professional. I sat outside, next to wall which overlooks the city including the cathedral. This view is probably one of the best in the city. It started to rain while I was enjoying my cake and beer and the staff lowered screens between me and the view to protect me from the rain but not low enough to block my view (very considerate). I had been waiting to try this cake for a long time so my expectations were high. It was really nice but I realised then that I'm not a big cake lover. No fault to the cake, it's just not my preference. I only ordered cake so I don't feel like I can give a fair rating for the food, only the service and atmosphere.

Great view of the city. Nice place to get the black forest cake with coffee or have a cocktail. Their meals are quite expensive though. We were able to get a seat without having a reservation. Would recommend after taking the cable car up Schlossberg.

This restaurant of fine German dining has its act together. Definitely worth the experience. Service was attentive and courteous. The ambience is amazing, wonderful view of Freiburg. If possible schedule your reservation 1-1.5 hour before sunset if the weather is right you will not be disappointed. The food flavor was excellent and the meat tender with just right medium preparation. Many compliments to the chef for near perfection! One of the best for sure. Romantic and quiet indoors, open air and cozy outdoors.

Absolutely good experience. I have been here maybe 15 years before but I was well impressed. I admit that we were lucky and got one of the best tables at the terrace. I recommend booking in advance because the terrace was fully booked on Saturday already a day before. The place is well kept but not too formal, the obvious highlight is the terrace with the amazing view on the city. The service was really good, fast and attentive without being intrusive, and at least some waiters speak English. The food is also quite good, quite a twist on typical German foods. Also a wide range if vegetarian and vegan options is available. Prices are in line with the quality, medium-upper range. Will be happy to come back in the future.

There are a lot of customers in this restaurant, so you need to wait. At that time, I couldn't see the Black Forest cake at the scene, and I was very disappointed. But the manager told me that he would take out the finished cake soon, and he would keep a piece for me. So in the end I ate the Black Forest Cake and it was delicious. The cream had a strong cherry wine flavor and the cake was soft.

A small food hall with good selection of cuisines, we ordered the German & Puerto Rico food, they were big portion and very flavorful. If you ran out of food options, come here and you will be happy you do.

The Markthalle in Freiburg has something to suit every taste. I went for Afghan food and wasn’t disappointed. The prices were absolutely fair – overall Freiburg turned out to be surprisingly affordable. I’d definitely come back here on my next visit to Freiburg.

Nice place with different kind of food from the world 🌎. I tasted the Viet food pho and it was good enough. I appreciated more the ambiance than the food there. You can easily find tables and also discuss with other people if you want.

Not very big, but it offers different food options from different parts of the world. Also, you can buy fruits, sweets, fish and seafood. There is also a bar. An interesting place, where I would gladly return!

A relatively small markthalle, very overcrowded and very diverse food. I tried from Thailand sushi and green Thai curry. Sushi were freshly made. Absolutely delicious and the Thai curry was very good with crunchy vegetables.

The chef and owner, Sascha Weiss, creates modern German cuisine in a stylish setting within a beautiful old building with green shutters. The restaurant provides an upscale dining experience with healthy dishes and a diverse drink selection. Guests can enjoy the option of a 5-course tasting menu or choose from the à la carte selection.
Great lunch on Saturday 27th May on a lovely street in the old town. We ordered a la carte and really enjoyed the food, wine and service! The hot potato with the menus at the start was funny too - "you speak English to them, no you, no you" 😅😅🤭 The langostino with the asparagus and the meat dishes were really really good. Total €290-

We had high expectations of this Michelin-star restaurant, but left feeling very disappointed by our experience. It just wasn’t worth it. The food was quite good, but the wine pairing did the opposite of enhance the flavors of dishes. The selected wines were off-putting and detracted greatly from the meal, with the exception of an unusual, slightly sweet, almost vegetal red dessert wine at the end. In retrospect, I wish we had ordered a la carte and selected our own wine(s) for our meal. At 250€ per person for the 5-course menu and wine pairing, I give Wolfshöhle 2 stars for price value, at least for our visit. You really need to offer a better experience for this kind of money. On a side note, the restaurant was surprisingly empty, even for a Wednesday night, which put a bit of a damper on the atmosphere.

Drove a whole hour to this restaurant and based on google maps it allegedly open only to find it closed on a “summer break”. Update your opening times if you want to keep people coming!

Wolfshohle is Michelin star dining in Freiburg. The cooking is superb. One of the starters involved raw, but warm salmon that was incredibly good. One picture shows a close up of fried sea bass in a spectacular bouillabaisse sauce with a tiny drop of mashed potato on it. The other photo is potato on top of a tiny perfectly cooked egg and a sauce. We ate here twice this trip. All the staff are friendly and the chef comes to say good bye as you leave. Highly recommended

We were happy to learn that Mr. Fauster had opened his own fine dining in Freiburg since we enjoyed on numerous occasions his dishes in the old "Königshof" in Munich. So, no questions asked, we went for dinner in Freiburg recently. The location was known to us and has not changed, which is a good thing. The dishes were excellent and the service was likewise. Only two things prevented me from giving 5 stars. 1. The Chef attended/served personally one, respectively two tables. The other tables/guests did not seem to be of interest to him. 2. We paid the not too small bill. When we left the premises there was no one to wish us a nice evening or even thank for the visit. It felt as if one left a McD. This is a pity but hopefully not the new standard.

Really great. I had the chefs choice 3 course meal and it was amazing. Beef tartare with mustard ice cream! I felt like an iron chef judge.

The reopening of the Wolfshoehle puts Freiburg back on the culinary map. Excellent food and service. The dining room is lovely but lacks AC which would have been a plus on the hot day (~100 degrees F) that I visited (book outside if you are used to climatized rooms). Overall a great experience!

Basho-An is a bright and modern Japanese restaurant offering sushi, rice dishes, plum wine, and set meals. It is known for its lovely atmosphere and excellent service. The menu features a range of options at varying price points, with main courses and set menus available. Guests can expect professional and attentive servers delivering authentic Japanese cuisine, including sashimi, teriyaki chicken, unagi don, and sushi sets.
Lovely, atmospheric, Japanese restaurant with excellent, thoughtful service. Our servers were very professional and attentive. The food was excellent. It was the best sashimi I’ve had. I had a combo which was a hot dish with a cold dish so I chose chicken teriyaki (perfectly cooked and juicy) with Sashimi (very large slices.) it included a salad and miso soup. This is a real deal Japanese restaurant. It is pricey but you get quality across the board and I can’t recommend it enough.

Overall its a quite good place, would recommend to visit once :) Quality of the food were good and the portions weren't small, taste was also fine so nothing to complain about Price wise its like every other sushi place where its more expensive over here but acceptable. Ambience was quite nice and calming, the service was decent as well.

Friendly, delicious food with high prices. Good rice for sushi and sashimi was really good. The karaage is recommended by the chef to taste a piece first and then serve it to the customers. Other than that, everything was good.

We shared the Hana mixed sushi for 97eur for two and thought it was a little disappointing and overpriced - with 8 pieces of low value Surimi maki and two pieces of smoked rather than fresh mackerel.

The restaurant features creative plating and a wide selection of German wines, along with organic, healthy, vegan, and vegetarian dishes. With a focus on seasonal and fresh food, this culinary establishment is an offshoot of an established Freiburg wine shop, providing a modern bistro atmosphere with expertly curated wine offerings.
Absolutely delicious! Don’t need to say much. I loved every dish I had. Would happily come back over and over. 😋 Not to mention the really great service. Always so smiley
Laksmi C — Google review
We have had an amazing dining experience at Drexlers. We were surprised from amuse bouche until the dessert. We were super enthousiastic about the dishes. The granita from lavas that accompanied the perch was so innovative and smart! The cauliflower with yoghurt and matcha was also one of the favourites. We really loved the wine painting with unusual choices and classics from Sicily, the Loire Valley and Baden. This restaurant deserves to be full every evening!
Robbert B — Google review
Food was good, but underwhelming for the price. While good food takes time, 3.5h for a 5-course meal is excessive. Service was great otherwise.
Paul Z — Google review
What a superb meal I had at Drexlers. I now wish I had the 6 courses instead of just 4! A really unusual amuse bouche of broccoli and kiwi fruit. I know, I’m still not convinced either, but the broccoli elements were great, I just wasn’t sure what the kiwi fruit interloper was doing there. The first proper dish was the pumpkin, lentils, salad, prosciutto & beets. There were lots of lovely flavours of this plate. The lentils had a nice earthy savoury taste offset by the sweet pumpkin puree, cutting through the fatty prosciutto. The element that let it down was the sliced pumpkin pieces, which really tasted of not very much. Might have been better to have a larger chunk of pumpkin on the plate. The fish course was the star of this show. The piece of pikeperch was perfectly cooked and the light and herby bouillon of vegetables complimented it perfectly. Add in a little horseradish kick and uh um yummy. A palate cleanser midway through of gin & tonic granita with lemon zest and mint. Duck with cabbage & shiitake with a side of extra confit duck under some parsley foam (side dish not pictured). That duck breast was cooked to perfection, and was matched in its magnificence by that sticky deep jus. I feel the side dish part was not quite hitting the same heights, not that it stopped me from wolfing it down. A cheese course that is not pictured. And then onto the dessert. Chocolate tart with poached pear and whipped cream ice cream with a berry sorbet on top. Nice chocolate filling in the tart, and the poached peach was excellent. The whipped cream ice cream was a bit weak in flavour, but the sorbet did punch through. Overall it was a thumbs up. Some petit fours of cantucci and tower cake were both deliciously nutty. One crisp & crunchy, one soft & velvety. Definitely a wunderbar meal

It's a limited midweek menu but we couldn't resist going back for a second time the next day. I only wish that we could have tried the full tasting menu at the weekend. Fabulous food and drink and service at a competitive price.
Adrian T — Google review
Fancy place,a bit overpriced. They have menu only in German though the staff is more than willing to help with the translation. That atmosphere is a little bit pretentious. But overall the food was tasty and service was impeccable. Definitely recommend for long slow half voice conversations over glace of wine. Wouldn't advise for a cosy family dinner.
Irina A — Google review
Serving good quality food in a beautiful city. It's a little overpriced. I didn't find it overly pretentious at all, in fact it is lacking a little in ambiance of any kind - the red behind the bar is more like what you find in a bistro and some light background music might be something to introduce given that tables are quite close together. The Grauburgunder was a bit disappointing also. On the food side, the most important, the dessert was perfect, just incredibly delicious and we also really enjoyed the starter (a tartar), and the mains, swordfish and calf from the set menu (set menu costs 58 euro per person, or 45 euro if taking only one main -- portions are small-medium size. I recommend serving more squid with the swordfish though as it is mentioned on the menu card and I expected it to feature more. But overall, well done, just the ambiance lets the food down a bit.
Sinead W — Google review
Food was alright but notably worse than pre Covid. Service: staff was nice but extremely inexperienced. One had to take it with humor. Wait between main and desert was totally unacceptable (50 minutes). We started the 6 course menu at 7:30 pm and weren’t done until 11:40 pm.

High quality German food. Not the usual preparation. Way more refined. Dog friendly. Cozy. Friendly staff. Some of them speak English.

Catastrophic from beginning to end. The service was terrible. There were six of us, and they messed up one of the orders. Instead of admitting their mistake when they brought the food, they argued that this was what we ordered. Additionally, we ended up in the hospital with an anaphylactic reaction due to a risotto with undisclosed ingredients (highly likely to contain wheat)

Kybfelsen offers a 500-meter elevation climb with a stunning view to the west. Mountain bikers can enjoy the Canadian Trail, while signposted forest and forest paths provide comfortable navigation. The remnants of a castle that once stood steeply over the cliffs are still visible. Visitors can dine in a beautiful beer garden or spacious dining room, enjoying splendid food such as veal cordon bleu and traditional German dishes.
Rating relative to regular restaurants and pubs etc. I have dined here several times. There is a beautiful beer garden in the back for when the weather is good and a spacious dining room inside. The garden outside is gorgeous and very highly recommended for dining. Food is splendid. This time I had veal cordon bleu, which was succulent and tendor. Carolyne had spargel and fish, discovering that if you want to taste genuine tender spargel, make the journey away from the tourist eateries. Another fabulous dinner here-- we are coming again later this week. I think that is a strong recommendation.

This has to be one of the best German restaurants all around. Every dish was packed with flavour, starting with the soup, then the main dish and ending with dessert. Even the way they cooked a simple potato was exquisite! Highly recommend. The only thing is that the service was slow, but we were a huge group (~50 people) so I think that was the reason.

Have been there twice. Food is always more on the expensive side, and the servings kind of small. On the bright side, the ambience outside is always great.

This place is GREAT! The atmosphere is very chill and all of the stuff are extremely friendly and helpful. The food was great and super value for money! We ordered a plate for two, with two pork schnitzels, side dishes and sauces of our choice. While the schnitzels might not be the biggest, the plate was loaded with fries-potatoes and everything was extremely tasty and of great quality. We also visited the next day and everything we tried was excellent once again. If you are looking for some value for money German food, you can't go wrong here.

The basic schnitzels were good, but the one with Camembert cheese didn’t work as well and was a bit over the top. The potato salad wasn’t great either—it was just okay.
Asalita — Google review
The place is perfect, but we were very disappointed by this experience. We ordered 3 cups of instead received 3 small cups with a single scoop of ice cream. It was clearly a mistake from the kitchen — these things can happen, so not to dramatic. However, instead of acknowledging the error, we were forced to pay for something we didn’t order. We explained the situation, but the server refused to admit the mistake. Finally we received a "discount", which is nothing compared to what we have to pay. Be just careful.
Tabitha W — Google review
Local place for schnitzels. It is BUSY, so I shouldn't complain about the lack of attention I received. Food is good, and the staff in the sublevel were very nice. It was a little chaotic on the ground level, and everything is a long wait. The most important thing is that the food is that the schnitzel is good here!
Libinski 0 — Google review
This was unfortunately somewhat of a disappointment. Ordered the Duo Schnitzel (Schnitzel for 2, you save something like 90 cents). But we were billed for 2 individual Schnitzels, not a great disaster. However the potatoes were completely salty and ruined much other taste of the food. We mentioned to the waiter which seemed to listen but really not take notice. Then we went on to the payment, and at that point the waiter apologized but his credit card terminal had not been functioning all day, and could only take cash. Why do you in a busy area mention this before servicing guests? We then had to find an ATM nearby to withdraw cash, which in itself can be a problem if you do not have your physical card on you, since many ATMs do not accept contactless withdrawal.

Eichhalde is a rare beautiful experience of all our culinary experiences of recent years, it stands out as something truly unforgettable. It’s almost magical: to be moved, heart and soul transported to Naples, with the scents and flavors of Campania unfolding on the plate—all while nestled in the quiet, leafy streets of Freiburg. Federico and Valentina have brought to life a unique and sincere culinary vision, one that steers clear of passing trends like nouvelle cuisine or Germanic-fusion influences. What you find here is the essence of Campania’s tradition, reinterpreted with finesse, passion, and deep reverence. From the very first bite to the final, comforting touch, each dish tells its own story. Every glass of wine, carefully chosen, enhances and completes the journey. The welcome is warm and genuine—you feel embraced, as if dining in the home of dear friends, all while enjoying cuisine of the highest standard. A place to be discovered, cherished, recommended

Delightful. One of the best meals I've ever had with a really relaxed atmosphere. The service was amazing with the chef taking the time to talk me through how they made their canelés. Also the sommelier was incredibly interesting talking us through the German wines.
Victoria T — Google review
For our first anniversary, my partner and I wanted something special. Since we love good food, we chose to dine at Jacobi. My partner is pescatarian (doesn't eat white or red meat) so she would have had fish instead of meat. Before our main courses arrived (mine being a meat dish and hers a fish dish), we were served small verrines with emulsions. Mine was supposed to contain meat, while hers was meant to have mushrooms. However, it was difficult to tell what was inside just by looking at them. Unfortunately, my partner took a large spoonful of her verrine and immediately realized she had just eaten meat. The sommelier was extremely kind, apologizing sincerely even though it wasn’t her fault, and she handled the situation with great professionalism. However, we barely received any acknowledgment from the person who served us, apart from a shy and brief apology. I am not looking for further apologies, but I believe people should be aware that this happened—especially at a restaurant that prides itself on being attentive and offering different dietary options. Now, imagine if my partner had a nut allergy instead of dietary preferences; this mistake could have had serious consequences. An error like this is unacceptable, particularly in a restaurant of this caliber. Once again, I want to acknowledge the professionalism of the sommelier, who took partial responsibility even when she had none. We are not angry, just deeply disappointed by the lack of professionalism in this instance.
Nicolas V — Google review
Jacobi team is young and very enthusiastic. Christoph,, the chef, is indeed a very passionate person, even when he has to listen the opinion of an incompetent guest, like me. In fact, despite I have told him that I am not a big fan of the use of sauces, especially when combind to such a fabulous and so well balanced mix of ingredients, Christofer was patiently listen to my opinion and show a sincere interest. Well, if are looking for an innovative exciting culinary experience, I would strongly recommend to pay Jacob a visit. With regard to the future, I have not doubt that for people like Christoph and his team… sky is the limit…! It goes without saying… five stars!

Nice efficient airport. Flew in on a Tuesday. No line for customs. Very friendly customs lady. A lot of signs with directions. The train to terminal E is quick and convenient. Very beautiful snowcapped mountain scenery if you have a window to look out of.

Zurich Airport is one of the most well-organized and pleasant airports I’ve ever traveled through. The entire process — from check-in and security to baggage claim — is smooth and efficient. The staff are polite, multilingual, and always ready to help. The airport interiors are clean, modern, and filled with natural light, making long layovers comfortable. There are plenty of restaurants and cafés offering everything from quick bites to Swiss chocolates and fresh coffee. The children’s play areas and lounges are thoughtfully designed, and the shopping options are excellent. Trains to the city center are just downstairs — fast, frequent, and very convenient. Overall, Zurich Airport truly reflects Swiss precision and hospitality — calm, efficient, and beautifully managed. A world-class experience!

Quite possibly one of the best-organized and most immaculate airports in the world. Everything runs with Swiss-level precision — from check-in to security to boarding, it’s seamless, efficient, and calm. The entire space feels open, bright, and beautifully designed, with an atmosphere of order and serenity that makes travel genuinely pleasant. Cleanliness is absolute, every corner shines, and the overall layout flows perfectly. The shops and restaurants are modern, fresh, and innovative, offering both local Swiss quality and global brands. The signage is flawless — clear, multilingual, and intuitive — making navigation effortless even for first-time visitors. In essence, Zurich Airport is the embodiment of efficiency, precision, and elegance. Every transit here feels less like an airport stop and more like a quiet interlude in motion. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ – Flawless, calm, efficient — a masterpiece of Swiss travel design.

Open Areas, clean Toilettes very good Connection to the Train. Check the Terminal first otherwise you have to run to catch your plane During Construction the Signs&Labels could be improved
Andreas D — Google review
Well organized airport with a cozy interior design. There are also public tables available if you just want to eat your own food without using the restaurants’ tables, which is very convenient.

Zurich International Airport is a modern, clean, and well-designed airport. The facilities are excellent, with plenty of comfortable seating areas and a good selection of restaurants and shops. The airport is very organized, making transit and check-in smooth and efficient. A great place to relax while waiting for your flight

Karlsruhe / Baden-Baden Airport

Regional airport
Airport
Karlsruhe / Baden-Baden (FKB) Airport, situated 16km east of the city, offers a convenient entry point for visitors. The terminal is small and straightforward, with limited amenities such as coffee shops and travel agencies but no duty-free or restaurants. However, security processes are efficient and staff members are friendly. The airport's compact size makes navigation easy, and public transportation connections are acceptable. Despite its regional appearance, it serves international flights and provides quick passport control on arrival.
Little airport 40km to Karlsruhe, and more closer to Baden Baden... It's more for low cost company... You can come there by bus, train or car... Because its little there is no much places to eat and drink like at big airports... There is also little duty free shop inside... Security control is sometimes very very long especially when it's summer season and I recommend to people to come minimum 2,5-3 hours before to not miss the flight... People who work there is so kind and helpful but i think they need more worker at summer... Price is correct like at other airports... Also they need more charger for phones... All recommendations for visit and take some flights to and from there

OMG and this is in the middle of Europe! There were like so so much of travelers at the security check. Obviously the staff is not prepared to manage them! I was waiting for 50 minutes for the security check tried to ask help from 2 staff members saying I was scared to miss my flight. The answer from a grey haired lady was: “Bitte schön!” She did not even make the effort to answer me in English. Not like the others did much more. They let us outside to wait in the windy cold weather for like half an hour. Unhelpful, degrading experience. Will try to avoid.
Veronika S — Google review
Surprisingly, not the worst place to spend a night before your flight: there are a lot of chairs without armrests, so you can actually sleep! But the is no food during the night: Costa coffee, shop, and a corner with sandwiches are closed. There are some vending machines, but they take only coins! When the security opened (3 hours before the first flight) and we went through it and the boarder, there was a working sandwich corner and a small duty-free shop. It's a very small airport. Everything was super quick, and a liked a guy at the security check, very nice and polite.

I don't see my previous review so I am putting this here. The primary problem with this airport is the security. My least favourite over a handful of airports I do almost weekly. Unusually, today's went smooth for me(not last week though), but I watched the staff make a woman cry today (with baby and carraige too). Travel is already stressful, they seem to go out of their way to ensure it's part of your experience when you travel through fkb. They need to stop clinging to their sense of process and open their minds up, seek training perhaps, in order to deliver a better experience. (Common airports for me... Let, Stn, LHR,Ltn, clu, sbz, ath, cfu,Kos,lux, bsl yes, that is how I am judging- given size of fkb, should be smoother than lcy). Management, if you are reading this, I assure you, not all people can be wrong. Even your positive reviewers have a hard time complimenting the security control. If it's a third party, then you should place pressure on the third party. While you're at it, comment to kvv that it's ridiculous that there is only one bus an hour to Baden train station during common daytime hours). Should be at least every 30 minutes and one should be crosslisted to connect all the way to the center or even lichtenthal.

The airport is small, and everything looks quite reasonable - just what you would expect. But don’t let that fool you. It will make you question whether you’re really in a European Airport. The ticket machine for the bus? Out of order. The bus drivers? Cash only. The only ATM at the airport? Yep - also out of order. The lady at the information desk? She found all of this completely normal and simply suggested taking a taxi to the city center. (Thanks for the shitty service displayed.) I ended up learning about an alternative—the DB app—from a kind soul who just happened to be trying to catch the bus too. All in all, bring cash and a lot of patience.

Utter chaos and inhumane conditions at Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden Airport. The line stretches dozens of meters and moves at the pace of a sedated snail. I’ve been waiting for more than two hours, while only one counter operates. There is no clear information, no organization, and staff seem absent or indifferent. This level of neglect and disrespect towards passengers is utterly unacceptable. I demand immediate action from management: open additional counters, provide proper communication, and restore basic order. If I would be to rate it - it would be negative five. Upd.Re: The ultimate denial and responsibilities displacement is clearly felt in your response👎👎👎
Vladislav K — Google review
It’s a lovely little airport with a great vibe, but unfortunately it seems that the company that runs the security checks can’t handle the busy season. I’ve been to heaps of different airports, but I have never had to wait in line for over 1.5 hours. You could feel people were getting stressed out. I had heard it from people before and now experienced it myself. Hope they are going to change something.
Theresa H — Google review
There were very unpleasant and untolerant staff this night. They had very limited English and couldn't read properly the certificate from my doctor as for my diabetes medications. So, I had to recall all my German to explain and they was so disgusting when they laughed at me. Last time I had no any problems with the same situation in this airport.

EuroAirport Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg

International airport
Airport
EuroAirport Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg is an international airport that has been in operation since 1946, serving the border region of France, Germany, and Switzerland. It is a decently sized airport offering flights to various destinations within the region and beyond. The airport provides paid parking options for short trips that can be arranged online, with both roofed and open parking available. Inside the airport, there are dining options albeit at higher costs for average quality food.
EuroAirport Basel–Mulhouse–Freiburg is very practical because it serves three countries at once, and it is easy to reach by bus or shuttle from Basel city. The terminal is modern, clean, and not too big, which makes moving around much easier compared to larger airports. Check-in and security are usually efficient, but at peak hours there can be long lines. The staff work quickly and are organized, so the waiting time is reasonable. Signs are clear in multiple languages, which makes navigation simple for international travelers. The airport has several cafés, restaurants, and duty-free shops. Prices are on the higher side, but the selection is good, especially for last-minute gifts and local products. Seating areas are comfortable, and there are plenty of charging points for devices. Another advantage is the clear separation between the French and Swiss sectors, which can be unusual but very convenient depending on your destination. Public transport connections are reliable, and it only takes about 20 minutes by bus to reach Basel city center. Overall, EuroAirport is well-organized, clean, and efficient. It is not the biggest airport, but it is easy to use and serves its purpose very well for short European trips and connections.
Aren S — Google review
The airport is conveniently accessible by bus, taxi, and car. I took the bus 50, which takes you directly to the main entrance in about 10-15 minutes. This airport is a great option for people living in Basel. The departure lobby is on the second floor, while the arrival lobby is on the first floor. From the first floor, you can easily access buses, taxis, and cars to take you to the city. The airport is renowned for its international nature, with exits connecting to both Swiss and French sides. The building is relatively small, so even first-time visitors won’t get lost. Currently, some areas are undergoing renovations, which should enhance the overall experience. If you ever get the opportunity to visit this incredible airport, take some time to explore its surroundings.

Euro Airport Basel Mulhouse is one of the rare airport which serves both Switzerland and France. Even certain parts of Germany can be accessed from here. On arrival there was a clear sign which side to go to. We got our luggage soon. The airport building is small but very well managed. It was very easy to get a taxi outside.
Balkrishna S — Google review
The airport is pretty big and has lots of things to do while waiting for your plane. There is also a direct line that goes from Basel main train station to here, which was very convenient for me. And it was pretty easy for me to find the gate where my flight to Sibiu was departing. And it seemed unique to me that was split between the French zone with euro and Swiss zone with Franc.
Codrin G — Google review
Thos airport has two official names and two official codes. If that's not enough to confuse you, there are also separate parkings for French and Swiss. Cafes are as more expensive than London's airports. There are water fountains but no signs to direct you to them. Toilets are few and very small, you'd struggle to get any hands luggage in the cubicle so good luck if traveling solo! Duty free shopping has limited options compared to Zurich or major German airports and prices are again too high. On positive side, the airport is closed to Basel and there is a bus service running twice an hour exctat night. There is also a robotic trash can which regularly traverses the departure side.

One of the best airports i’ve ever been to. It’s clean, logic and really nice engineered. Furthermore, it’s the only airport in the whole world where there is three countries located. You have an option to exit to any of these: France, Germany and Switzerland. That’s amazing feature. Moreover, there is a nice and simple but really huge parking. If it’s not a 5 stars, what is? It’s really a miracle for me why the untrained people set 3,8 average to this really nice place
Igor G — Google review
First time in Basel Mulhouse Airport. Uber dropped me off in front of the building. Walked in and it didn’t look like an airport. Asked people, and it turns out the second floor is for the check-in counter. Once done checking in, I needed to go one floor up for security. It wasn’t very busy, but still took me 10-15 minutes to get through, and then I was located in the Duty-Free shop. Followed the instructions on which direction to get out of the shop to my gate. Just before my gate, there was customs. It had two lines, one for EU residents and one for others. Initially, there were two officers working, and then later, while I was in line, they had increased to four officers. It took me 30 minutes to go through customs. Once passed customs, my gate was right there without a terminal. The airport is small, but for a first-timer, it was a little confusing.

People are exceptionally rude! Had to squeeze my small bag pack into my friends luggage (cause she booked two baggages and I just one). So apparently then it’s okay, but otherwise they probably would have confiscated it! And this would have been okay, if people were not so unfriendly. Doesn’t matter if it is during security or boarding. Definitely will travel through Zurich Airport in the future.
