Kakegawa in 2 days

If you only have 2 days to spend in Kakegawa, we’ve narrowed down the top places you should check out to get the best experience of your time here.
Kakegawa offers a blend of history, tea culture and quiet countryside in central Shizuoka Prefecture. The city is best known for Kakegawa Castle, a faithfully reconstructed hilltop keep with views over the town, and its surrounding samurai-era district. Visitors can experience Shizuoka’s famous green tea at local plantations and traditional tea rooms, and see hundreds of birds and seasonal flowers at Kakegawa Kacho-en bird and flower park. Its location on the Tokaido Shinkansen line also makes it an easy stopover between Tokyo, Nagoya and Osaka.
With favorites like Kakegawa Castle, Kotonomama Hachimangu, and Kakegawa Station, we’ll make sure you don’t miss out on all the must sees. We even included some of our favorite food spots around the area, like Genuine Izakaya Diner "Uotami" Kakegawa Station and Kodawarippa so you can get the best taste of Kakegawa while you’re here. To see our full list of food recommendations, check out our best restaurants post. If you're traveling on a budget, you can check out our cheap eats post.

Zoo
Kakegawa Kachoen is a captivating theme park in Kakegawa city, Japan. It boasts one of the largest greenhouses in the country, where visitors can interact with birds and enjoy various flowers. The park offers bird shows, opportunities to feed the birds, and even take photos with penguins and owls. Additionally, guests can explore a water lily pond and an emu farm on the premises.
Shoebill and penguins are the highlight of the day. Only first 10 patrons can take pictures with penguins at a cost of ¥700. No more than 10 lucky person/family can enjoy this privilege. That says a lot about this zoo. They really care about the animals. Not using them as money machine. Entry fee is only about USD10. Come visit if you are in Nagoya or Mt Fuji area. You won’t regret.

I would say its for kids and alot of birds are there and you can feed them easily, you have to buy everything to feed birds.its about 100 yen /200yen

If you love birds, you'll love this place! I easily spent over 2 hours here. You can feed the birds, but the sale of food ends at 3:30 PM, so be sure to arrive before that. At 3:30 PM, the birds will get fed, so you won't be able to go close to them while they eat, but it is adorable to see them all munching down on their meal. There are bird shows as well, but the outdoor show is only once per day. Highly recommend if you love birds!
R U — Google review
There are lots of different kids of birds walking around in the place. You can feed most of them too. It was my first time to see flamingos and toucans so up close. (You know in the zoo, they're far away form you.) When I brought my 3yo, flamingos looked down on her and she got really upset. So, it might be more enjoyable for kids who are older than elementary school age. This time, my kids were 8yo and 10yo, so they had no problem. There are various activities available, such as holding cute ducks and penguins. You can also put several different kids of owls on your arms. Thankfully, they have a variety of menu at the cafeteria. They even have hamburgers, and they were pretty good. My little one went with something unique that has a shape of a bird nest. She was really happy. It's a bit far from the nearest station, so we took a taxi on our way there from Kakegawa station. We wanted to explore a bit, so we walked back to the station. We will definitely go back again.

Another beautiful city in Japan! My day at this bird park is unforgettable ❤️ I saw different varieties of birds for the first time here !! Most birds aren’t even caged so taking pictures and feeding them was so much fun 🤩
M S — Google review
I came here for the first time in 10 years! I enjoyed interacting with birds as usual! This is the place where you can see many owls, penguin shows, and flamingos up close without fences and more! This time, I paid 500 yen separately and experienced doctor fish! Both children and adults can enjoy feeding!
NH — Google review
Lovely little zoo, so many beautiful and friendly birds. Bring some cash so you can get food to feed them. The flowers in the seating area were also beautiful.
Nic L — Google review
This is a great place to visit, especially with kids! A variety of birds on display, many of which you can touch, pet and feed. It's an assault on the senses, especially the smell, but the place is quite clean and constantly being scrubbed -- especially the bird areas. The suspended flower garden entrance is enchanting, and the attached restaurant section is good for a bite or two. You get a chance to buy bird-related souvenirs on your way out. You can easily walk from the Kakegawa Station, and it's efinitely worth checking out.

Train station
Kakegawa Station is a major railway station in Shizuoka Prefecture, known for its convenient location and interesting local shops. The north exit leads to Kakegawa Castle, a beautifully restored wooden castle tower that showcases the area's history. At the south exit concourse, visitors can find a variety of local products and souvenirs unique to Shizuoka prefecture. This includes freshly baked bread and crown melons direct from the farm.
🌟 A First-Class Experience with the Shinkansen at Kakegawa Station – Beyond Expectations! My journey on the Shinkansen from Kakegawa to Hamamatsu was truly memorable—an experience I believe everyone visiting Japan should try at least once. Kakegawa Station may be modest in size, but it's incredibly clean, well-organized, and peaceful, perfectly reflecting Japanese standards. All signage is clear and includes English, and the staff are exceptionally polite and always ready to help if you have any questions. 🌟 Shinkansen – Speed and Sophistication: From the moment the train glides into the station, it's mesmerizing. Standing next to the “silver bullet” as it silently slices through the air is a thrill in itself. Inside, the cabins are immaculately clean, the seats are soft and comfortable, and the entire ride is so smooth and quiet—it genuinely rivals the business class experience on a plane. 🌟 Punctuality at Its Finest: The train arrives to the second, a true testament to Japan’s precision. You can confidently plan your schedule without worrying about delays. 🌟 Kakegawa Station – Location & Convenience: From the waiting area to the digital display boards and clearly marked signs, everything is intuitive and modern. The station is also well-connected to nearby cafés, convenience stores, and even offers direct access to a shopping area—extremely convenient for travelers. 🌟Style Meets Space: As someone passionate about design and aesthetics, I opted for a tailored suit during the trip—and I must say, the station's architecture paired with the sleek Shinkansen makes for a stunning fashion backdrop. Every photo taken here exudes a modern, refined, and confident vibe.

静岡県のメジャーな駅の一つ! One of the major railway stations in Shizuoka Prefecture! The newest Shinkansen station in Shizuoka Prefecture built to catter the World Soccer Cup. Very interesting locsl agricultural and food store inside and some tasty station bento. For the railway buffs: Kakegawa Station was first opened on April 16, 1889 when the section of the Tookaidoo Main Line connecting Shizuoka with Hamamatsu was completed. In 1935 the first section of the Tenryū Hamanako Line opened, with Kakegawa Station as its terminus. Regular freight service was discontinued in 1984. On March 13, 1988 the Tōkaidō Shinkansen platforms opened on the south side of the station. JR Kakegawa Station has five platforms serving eight tracks. The Tookaidoo Main Line Track 1 is served by a side platform connected to the main station building’s north exit and the Tenryū Hamanako Line station. It is used for departing both east and west. Track 2 and Track 3 are served by an island platform. Both platforms are connected to the station building by an underpass, which also connects to the two elevated side platforms used by the Shinkansen (Track 4 and Track 5). The north side of the station is a wooden structure dating from 1940. The station building has automated ticket machines, TOICA automated turnstiles and a manned “Green Window” service counter.

Kakegawa Castle is a picturesque castle complex located on a mountain, offering stunning views of Kakegawa city. It is renowned for being the first post-war main keep reconstructed using traditional carpentry techniques. The castle features wooden chambers, a tea room, and an ornate watchtower set within hilltop gardens. Visitors can explore the original Ninomaru Goten and enjoy Shizuoka tea in the serene garden below.
The view from the castle tower is spectacular. I am deeply moved when I imagine how the head of the family looked at this scenery at the time. The tea shop near the castle was very quaint. My business is big success.I got lot of money. Thank you for everything.

Get the combo ticket for a fun step back in time when visiting the castle. It includes access to the old buildings plus matcha tea and sweets. A really memorable experience!
Nunan H — Google review
Kakegawa Castle is a hidden gem — elegant, peaceful, and wonderfully restored. The wooden main keep stands proudly above the town, offering great views of the city and surrounding hills. Unlike some larger castles, it feels intimate and authentic, with a calm atmosphere that lets you really appreciate its history. The reconstruction was done using traditional methods, so the interior still feels like stepping back in time — wooden floors, steep staircases, and open rooms that echo with the past. The small museum nearby gives great context about the castle’s history and the local area. The surrounding gardens and paths are lovely to stroll through, and the whole site is clean, well-maintained, and easy to explore. It’s a quieter, less touristy alternative to some of Japan’s bigger castles, but every bit as beautiful. If you’re travelling through Shizuoka or between Tokyo and Kyoto, it’s definitely worth a stop — a peaceful window into Japan’s feudal past.
Darko R — Google review
I visited Kakegawa Castle, and it was such a beautiful and peaceful place! 🏯✨ The view from the top of the castle is amazing — you can see the whole city and the surrounding mountains. The castle itself is well-maintained and full of history. I really felt the traditional atmosphere of Japan while walking around the area. Perfect spot for history lovers and for anyone who wants to relax and enjoy scenic views. 🌸
Ralph M — Google review
Surprisingly interesting. While the castle is a reconstruction what makes this special is that the palace is original. Most of the Japanese castles no longer have the associated palace. It is well with going here if you’re in the vicinity. Be aware that all the explanations are in Japanese. We used Google translate to read them.
William K — Google review
Kakegawa Castle is a wonderfully restored historic site in Shizuoka that offers a rich and peaceful look into Japan’s samurai-era past. The main castle keep has been authentically rebuilt using traditional wooden construction techniques, giving it a distinct charm compared to the more modern reconstructions found elsewhere. Climbing to the top rewards you with sweeping views of Kakegawa city and the surrounding landscape. One of the highlights is the preserved Ni-no-Maru Palace next to the keep. This original structure lets you walk through tatami-floored rooms once used by the feudal lords, making it easy to imagine life during the Edo period. There’s also a small garden and tea house nearby where you can enjoy a quiet moment with matcha and wagashi (Japanese sweets). It’s only about a 10-minute walk from Kakegawa Station, and signage around the site is helpful even if you don’t speak Japanese. The entry fee is very reasonable, and the entire grounds are well-maintained. Whether you’re into Japanese history or just want a beautiful and calm place to explore, Kakegawa Castle is definitely worth a visit.

Didn't see all of the grounds or museum but the garden and castle were really nice. Be ready for the stairs up to as well as inside the castle.
Shawnda K — Google review
Awesome experience and great history behind feudal Japan and how they did things. It was even more impressive on how they designed these palaces from the inside to outside and this was back in the 1400s. Very organized on how things were handled and the worst thing is that you can't take pictures of the inside of the palace, only outside.

On April 26, 2023, the Tatsuo Shrine, a Shinto shrine featured in the NHK Taiga drama Dosuru Ieyasu, was visited during a tour of its true locations. This visit provided insights into the battle between Ieyasu and Ujizane by observing the proximity of Kakegawa Castle Ruins to the shrine.
(Translated by Google) Tatsuo Shrine is located in Shimosaigo, Kakegawa City, Shizuoka Prefecture. It is an ancient shrine that is known as a famous spot for weeping plum blossoms. It is a venerable shrine that has been enshrined on the land known as Mt. Ryūbi since ancient times and enshrines Susano no Mikoto as its deity. As it is located northeast of Kakegawa Castle in the direction of Kimon, it is said to have been deeply revered by successive castle lords as the castle's guardian deity. Benefits include warding off illness and good health, warding off evil spirits, bringing good luck, family safety, and career advancement. Once you pass through the torii gate, you can climb about 100 stone steps that are bathed in beautiful sunlight filtering through the trees, and you will find the main shrine. Although it was a small shrine overall, the shrine had a sense of history and a dignified atmosphere within its grounds, making it a shrine that was well-loved by the locals. During my recent trip to Shizuoka, I had the pleasure of dining at the Genuine Izakaya Diner "Uotami" near Kakegawa Station. Don’t let its chain store status fool you; this place offers an impressive menu that includes Peking duck! I couldn't resist ordering it, and it was a delightful experience with its sweet and spicy miso sauce. The seafood selection is also noteworthy, making it one of the best spots for food in the area.

Although the store is located at a Shinkansen station, you need to be very careful about the time. Even the special menu doesn't feel very regional. You'll have to walk a bit, but if you go to the north exit of the station, there are apparently plenty of pubs to choose from. It's a chain restaurant, so I feel safe with the menu, but other than being near the station, I didn't see any benefits. It is definitely not recommended to use it when there is a time limit, especially before the Shinkansen departs. (Translated by Google) We visited around 1:00 PM on a Sunday in September 2025. We made a reservation through Jalan for the "Kakegawa Tea Dorayaki Making Experience." It cost 800 yen per person. There was an eat-in area in part of the souvenir shop, so we tried making dorayaki there, using a mini stove that used solid fuel. There were five other customers, including us, making dorayaki. According to the staff, the dorayaki dough is the same as that used for taiyaki, and it's mixed with tapioca flour, making it very chewy. It was delicious, paired with the cold green tea that was served with it. I'm grateful that they even served tea for my daughter, who didn't have a reservation for the experience. We were able to make four dorayaki skins. It was quite filling. There are no chairs for children in the eat-in area, but there is a tatami space. The Kakegawa beef croquettes cost 230 yen, but the frozen food vending machine outside the store was selling them for 580 yen for three, so if you're eating them at home, the vending machine is a better deal. Soba noodle shop
Nestled in a quaint residential area near Kakegawa Castle, Masakichi is a charming family-owned restaurant steeped in history dating back to the Edo period. This hidden gem specializes in 100% buckwheat soba and offers an array of delectable tempura options, including fresh shrimp, shiitake mushrooms, eggplant, and pumpkin. Diners rave about the crispy texture of the tempura that maintains its crunchiness throughout the meal.
Great Soba and Tempura. This family-owned restaurant has some history dated back to the Edo period, and it is a hidden gem in the residential area near Kakegawa Castle. If you order tempura and soba separately, it will be slightly expensive, but if you order it as a set, it is reasonable. An ala carte tempura menu includes locally sourced produces. Very relaxing music and ambience.

Japanese restaurant
The younger sibling conducted a search and found that the restaurant "いも汁処 とろろ本丸" was easily accessible as it was not yet noon. Despite being a weekday, the establishment appeared to be deserted, allowing for immediate entry. The dishes served at this Japanese eatery consisted of delectable tororo (grated yam) and rice. It seems that many customers would indulge in substantial portions, perhaps due to their slim figures.
One of the healthiest Japanese ingredients that I love is Japanese mountain yam. We Japanese love sticky, slimy, slippery food like grated Japanese mountain yam and natto… But they are super healthy! Similar to avocado, in my opinion. When we were visiting Shizuoka, we visited a restaurant who specializes in their local Japanese mountain yam. They had a dining room on both sides of the main entrance, and I heard they have a large dining room on second floor. All the interior here is old-fashion, with tatami floor and low dining tables. They brought us complimentary hot green tea, and even though it was a hot Summer day when we visited, it still was very tasty. Nothing like a locally grown and produced, high quality green tea… On their menu, they had their top three popular lunch items. Since there were three of us, we each order the different item of the top three, so we can all try them. They had regular size and "slightly smaller" size. We all got smaller size, but they were huge and super filling! Our lunch was amazing, and we were extremely full. With the smaller size, I couldn’t finish… My hubby was stuffed too. So, unless you are a big hungry bear, I recommend getting the smaller size. Their tororo was amazing, super fresh, high quality with special flavoring was like a symphony on my tongue. The staffs were not very friendly but we’ve heard about that before we went, so we were not too surprised. They kind of leave you alone other than when they take your order and bring you food. Getting glasses of water from them was a bit of challenge, and they acted like it was such a huge request… But, we went there for their tororo, not for the great service. For that, we were very happy. Read my full review of the restaurant and food on my food blog, foodlovergirl.

The Shinto shrine Kotono Mamahachimangu is a place that evokes a sense of wonder. The sight of the immense, upright sacred tree is awe-inspiring. Visitors are compelled to purchase candles, drawn in by the allure of this holy site. Despite prior research, many choose to begin their exploration at the main shrine, carefully wiping clean the white stone with their own tissue paper.

(Translated by Google) I visited on a solo trip. Ever since I saw Tsurube-san visit there on a TV program, it was a place I'd always wanted to go. This time, right after visiting Kotonoha Hachiman-gu Shrine, something very happy happened, perhaps by coincidence, and I'd like to go back again someday to give thanks. After getting off the Shinkansen, it's about a 20-minute bus ride from Kakegawa Station. (※The number of buses is very low, about once every two hours, so it's essential to do some research beforehand! If you get off at the "Kotonomama Hachiman Shrine" bus stop, it's right in front of you. It was a weekday after Golden Week, so it was pretty empty and I was able to take my time worshiping. As this shrine also appears in The Pillow Book, the grounds have a very historic feel to them. Locals are visiting the shrine while out for a walk, and there are rice fields right in front of you, giving the grounds a refreshing atmosphere. The main shrine and main hall are across the road, but you should first worship at the main hall. There are "Fukunokami" (gifts of good fortune) available at the shrine office, so I took one. When I visited, the front staircase leading to the main hall was undergoing construction due to deterioration;; After worshiping at the main hall, the sacred cedar tree, and the rest of the shrine, I crossed the footbridge and headed to the main hall. To the shrine. Counting from the main shrine entrance, we climbed 272 steps on a mountain path. The dirt was rough and each step was narrow, so I recommend wearing sneakers! I'm used to climbing uphill stairs, and I reached the shrine in about 6-7 minutes. At the "Fukunokami" shrine, we polished the stones and made a wish. Maybe because everyone was polishing them, all the white stones were shiny. We returned to the main shrine and went to the dragon god's shrine behind it. On the way, we passed by the tea fields, and went down the stairs to Sakasakawa and Ryujin Shrine, where we paid our respects. We returned to the main shrine and placed our hands on a large camphor tree to pay our respects. The fresh greenery in the shrine grounds was so beautiful, and we felt a very warm power. The large camphor trees and cedars are truly impressive, and looking at them cleanses the soul. I crossed the road and climbed up to the shrine, but I had completely forgotten that one way to pray is to polish the stones with paper or cloth, so I only managed to polish three with the cloth I had on hand. (Translated by Google) 22nd Century Hill Park is a park that is characterized by its large size. We recommend parking in the second parking lot, as the park is right nearby. For mothers with children between the ages of 0 and 3, we recommend heading to the back right from the park entrance! There is a collection of play equipment for small children. Centered on complex play equipment with a slide, there are also animal objects, spring play equipment, seesaws, and more. There is also a lot of play equipment that you can spin around. The height of the play equipment here is low, so I think it would be a good idea for children who are not used to playing with play equipment to give it a try. There are clean restrooms and vending machines nearby, so you can play for a long time while taking breaks. To the left is a multi-purpose restroom with a wheelchair-accessible restroom and a diaper-changing table. The toilet is ostomate compatible. There's a grassy field next door, so it's a good place to bring lunch or snacks and relax. There is also a table, chairs and a place for shade. Perfect for a break. In the foreground, there is a lot of play equipment that children of elementary school age and older can play with. Although it is currently under construction, a new indoor playground called ``Mirocco'' is scheduled to open in July 2025 within the ``Tamarina'' facility. A cafe is also available for adults to enjoy. The heated pool is also scheduled to be renovated, and there will also be an area where small children can play indoors. It looks like it will be completed by this summer vacation. I'm looking forward to it. (Translated by Google) Visited on a weekday in February. As expected, it was empty. I stopped by on my trip, and the grounds are quite large, and the playground equipment that stands in the center is overwhelmingly large. In addition to the large playground equipment, there is also playground equipment for younger children located a little further away, so you can play without coming into contact with older children. Also, what impressed me personally was that there was a seesaw installed. I was moved because they were being removed from parks in the metropolitan area more and more because they were considered dangerous, and I rarely saw them anymore. There are clean restrooms, and there are vending machines with drinks and ice cream, so if you bring your own lunch, you can play all day. The Kakegawa Stained Glass Museum is a delightful venue showcasing antique stained-glass windows from England and France. It is the second museum of its kind in Japan, and visitors with a Kakegawa passport can enter for free. Along with admiring well-preserved stained glass, guests can also learn about the art form's history and production methods. Despite its relatively small size, this museum provides an enjoyable sensory experience as sunlight pours through resplendent rounded glass on the west side.
I thought this would just be a modern art gallery of stained glass. So I was happily surprised to find authentic stained glass recovered from old English homes and personal chapels. In the pieces dealing with Biblical content, it was interesting to see the symbolism embedded in the details of the glass. I walked away with a better understanding of how stained glass was used as the "Poor Man's Bible."

Despite the long journey from JR station, visiting the organic kiwifruit farm known as Kiwi Fruit Country Japan proved to be a worthwhile experience. The friendly and knowledgeable farm-guide, fluent in English, made the visit enjoyable. Though the kiwifruit harvest season had ended, visitors were able to indulge in various types of kiwifruits as part of the all-you-can-eat offering included in the admission fee.
Amazing experience. We did the full tea picking and making experience, which is well worth the price. The owner led us through how to pick the tea and what to look for to get the right part of the plant. Next, we spent ~1 hour drying our tea by hand and learning about his history, the farms' history, and expert tips to dry the tea correctly. Afterward, we got to eat as many kiwis as we liked, while watching a few animals roam through the covered kiwi greenhouse. Although it was very rainy when we were there, it was an unforgettable experience. Everyone was warm, welcoming, and patient with us as we mainly spoke English. High recommend if in the area.

Organically grown kiwi farm spanning across 14 hectares, kiwi and Persimmon plantation in 7-8 hectares. There are 85 varieties of KIWI. Its first of its kind plantation of Kiwi in Japan, owner has took training in California and returned to Japan for kiwi farming. Note they don’t export kiwi as export requires spraying the fruits to avoid probable insects transmission, owner doesn’t want their fruits to be sprayed as it losses organic purpose . If one is in Hamamatsu this place must be included in itinerary.

He took us on a quick walking tour up to pick green tea leaves, sharing the history of the farm and the varieties of kiwi they grow (in English), and then back to the covered area for an amazing barbecue. They were so kind and welcoming to us and our kids, and the food was bountiful and incredibly delicious. This is a really special place, whimsical and lovely in all the right ways. Even though the harvest season for kiwi-fruits was over, we could eat several kinds of kiwi-fruits (all-you-could-eat, which was included in the admission fee)! Yokosuka Castle Ruin Park is a fascinating historical site that offers a glimpse into Japan's Sengoku period, particularly the rivalry between the Takeda and Tokugawa clans. Built by Tokugawa Ieyasu as a strategic defense against Takeda Katsuyori, this castle was pivotal in controlling the Enshu region. Visitors can marvel at its distinctive stone walls, crafted from cobblestones and stones sourced from the Oi River.
Although the castle is gone, the stone walls are very unique and the model shows how great this castle once was.

It is said that whoever controls Takatenjin Castle will control Enshu, and it was built by Tokugawa Ieyasu in preparation for Takeda Katsuyori's attack on Takatenjin Castle. The stone wall, which was rebuilt with cobblestones, is unique and has an unusual shape, but it is said that stones brought from the lower reaches of the Oi River were used. Due to its location and close proximity to the sea, cobblestones may have been used as part of the stone walls during the Sengoku period. As it is a national historic site, it has been well maintained, and traces of the foundation stones remain. It is said that until the Hoei earthquake, there was an inlet near the castle, and Yokosuka Minato was the base for water transportation. There weren't many people visiting, but since it's one of Tokugawa Ieyasu's precious Hirayama castles and is near Takatenjin Castle, I decided to stop by. It is maintained as a park and has a parking lot. Unasuke is a delightful Kanto-style eel restaurant that promises an unforgettable culinary experience. Here, the eel is expertly prepared and grilled to achieve a fluffy texture that practically melts in your mouth, free from any bothersome bones or fins. The combination of the tender eel with perfectly cooked rice and a rich sauce creates a harmonious flavor profile that's hard to resist. Additionally, their liver soup adds another layer of deliciousness to the meal.

(Translated by Google) In the special unaju, the eel was large and you couldn't feel the bones, but the eel in the jyo unaju was small, so it had a slightly bony and muddy smell, perhaps because it was processed differently. The skin of both was soft and not fragrant. The eel liver was 900 yen and apparently contains the equivalent of about 12 eels. It had a slightly fishy smell when eaten raw, but was delicious with lots of sansho pepper. It was cheap and I recommend it, but they only accept cash. One thing that bothered me was the taste of the sansho pepper; perhaps because it contained cumin, it didn't really have much of a Japanese sansho flavor. There was a group of people who had come to the restaurant at the same time, so I wondered if this was their meal. The melon that came with the set was also very sweet, and could be said to be a Kakegawa specialty. I felt like I had truly enjoyed Kakegawa gourmet food from lunch. (Translated by Google) Leaving Yokohama in the winter rain. On the way to Toyohashi, I had an appointment in Shimizu. I asked him to give me his Leica field scope. When you pick it up, it's surprisingly beautiful. The lens is so clear that it's hard to believe it's more than a quarter of a century old, and there isn't a single cloud on the barrel. Well-maintained tools are imbued with the time spent using them. While gripping the steering wheel, a bug in my stomach suddenly chirps. As I was driving along Route 1, I saw a signboard for Kakegawa Roadside Station. I remember the taste of that soba. Three years ago, I happened to stop by this store when I was forced to get off the street due to an accident on the highway. The soba I ate that time was really delicious. Without hesitation, I pulled into the parking lot and opened the door to the store. I stood in front of the ticket vending machine and pressed the button for ``Japanese yam and toro set meal.'' 1280 yen. Enough waiting. The soba that was handed to me at the counter looked just like it did back then, with the white of the wild yam glimmering faintly on the other side of the soba. Take your chopsticks and dip the soba into the yam. When you take a sip, you can't help but close your eyes as the smooth texture and stickiness of the Japanese yam blend together harmoniously. The mini kakiage bowl beside it also had a perfectly thick batter. Food like this makes eating while traveling fun. After dinner, I bought two bags of homemade bread. One is a croissant and the other is bread with mochi. Tomorrow morning, I'm planning to eat it with my father, who loves mochi. What would my father say about this bread? Inside the store while listening to the local broadcast at 12:00 on February 18, 2024. There were many customers who knew the taste, and the place was full. I was able to sit down at the right time. I was called about 3 minutes after I finished ordering. The food was quick this time as well. I couldn't wait to take a picture of the food because it looked delicious, so I started eating. The photos are just the beginning. Sorry m(_ _)m. As expected, the soba noodles had a strong soba aroma and were delicious, and the fried chicken had a crispy batter and the meat was soft and juicy. Thank you, Sennobo-san. Thank you for the meal. I'll visit you again. I ordered a set of grated yam rice bowl and fried chicken. The grated yam is included in the set, so it's a medium bowl. If it was just grated yam, it would be a larger bowl. The smooth texture is irresistible. The fried chicken was juicy and large. It was a generous portion for under 1000 yen. There aren't many seats, but the turnover was fast. When I entered the store, I found the alcoholic liquid in front of the entrance, but I looked for it so I couldn't see it. There is no acrylic board partition on the table. A part-time clerk! I was confused because he spoke so quickly that it was difficult to understand his question about spiciness and quantity of rice, so I couldn't reply right away. I don't like Mac, but I like CoCo Ichi... To be honest, I've been to CoCo Ichi an incredible number of times and an incredible number of stores, but my impression of this place is among the top three. The coronavirus pandemic has just started, the countermeasures are not good, and I'm tired of hearing all the private conversations. CoCo Ichi along National Route 150 is located in a convenient location, with Haibara to the east and Hamamatsu to the west. Family restaurant
Western restaurant
If you're interested in trying the Genkotsu hamburg steak at Sawayaka, keep in mind that their hamburger sandwiches are highly recommended. Surprisingly, the rice casserole with meat and white sauce might not satisfy those looking for a substantial amount of meat. On the other hand, their curry is both delicious and nutritious with its soupy consistency. To get an idea of how crowded the restaurant is before visiting, you can conveniently check their website for real-time updates on its occupancy.
If you're in Shizuoka, you should probably go to asawayaka. Some people I were traveling with went twice in a day, so I knew I had to try it. I got there, and there were 25 groups ahead of me. It didn't take much longer than a half hour to get seated. If you get the hambaagu, it's brought out on this piping, hot platter and they give you a place matt to shield yourself from the send the juices when they cut it for you. You probably wanna get some of the side sets and maybe a dessert. Very fun regional family restaurant.

First time visiting Sawayaka not knowing too much about it other than its only located in Shizuoka, I was surprised how good it was. I was expecting family restaurant quality food but what was served was a proper hamburg. This shop is located just by the highway so location is perfect as well.

It seems this restaurant is extremely welcomed locally. We waited for 20 minutes. The food is great and they have the nicest service. Highly recommend.

I know you wanna order Genkotsu hamburg steak but believe me, the hamburger sandwiches are the best. Really. I never knew it too. The rice casserole with meat and white sauce , doesn’t have enough meat. Curry very healthy and soupy.not bad.you can check how busy the individual restraint is at their website.

When we were visiting Shizuoka, we discovered there is more to Shizuoka than their green tea and eel. They also have their own special cantaloupe, persimmons, and guess what else? Hamburg steaks! In Japan, people eat not only hamburgers, but also hamburg steaks, without lettuce, tomato and buns. I heard that there is one restaurant in particular that offers excellent hamburg steak all around Shizuoka. They have 30 locations only in Shizuoka! Even though there are so many locations, each of them gets pretty packed with locals. When we visited one, they had about 45 minutes of wait time. We expected the wait to be long, so it was no issue. We killed time in a nearby store selling loads of cute stuffs, and went back after about 30 minutes. Their most popular item is their Genkotsu Hamburg Steak, or “fist” hamburg steak. Or, you can get the same thing but just a bit smaller, called Onigiri (“rice ball) Hamburg Steak. The name only reflect its size, as big as a strong man’s fist, or smaller size similar to rice ball. We went with the Onigiri Hamburg Steak. They do have option to add side of rice, bread, salad, or soup with a drink, but we didn’t get any extra. The hamburg steak comes sizzling on iron plate, and a staff cut them in half and push the cut-side down on the plate. Thus, the cooking of the hamburg steak completes right in front of your eyes. At the end, the staff poured the sauce of your choice on top of the hamburg steaks, making them cook for a little while longer with the sauce. It was really juicy, with still a little pink left in the middle, it was not over-cooked in any way. The onion sauce was cuddling the steak so nicely, and yes, it was delicious! Their “onigiri” size looked really small, but yet, it was super satisfying. Don’t let the look fool you. After one bite, I understood the reason why they were so popular, and the demand for more branches everywhere within Shizuoka.
