Yonezawa in 2 days

If you only have 2 days to spend in Yonezawa, we’ve narrowed down the top places you should check out to get the best experience of your time here.
Yonezawa is known across Japan for its premium Yonezawa beef, which you can sample at local steakhouses and traditional restaurants. The city has deep samurai heritage as the former domain of the Uesugi clan, with sites like Uesugi Shrine, the Yonezawa Castle ruins, and historical museums. Nearby Onogawa Onsen offers classic hot-spring town atmosphere, especially scenic in winter snow. In spring, riverside cherry blossoms and seasonal festivals add to the appeal of this compact, easily explored city.
With favorites like Mausoleum of Uesugi family, Toko Sake Museum, and Yonezawa City Uesugi Museum, we’ll make sure you don’t miss out on all the must sees. We even included some of our favorite food spots around the area, like Uesugi Hakushakutei and Uesugi Joshien so you can get the best taste of Yonezawa while you’re here. To see our full list of food recommendations, check out our best restaurants post. If you're traveling on a budget, you can check out our cheap eats post.

Nestled within a serene forest, the Kumano Taisha Shrine is an iconic shrine complex that captivates visitors with its stunning wood carvings and rich spiritual ambiance. Often referred to as the "department store of shrines," it houses numerous deities under its impressive thatched roof. The shrine features a large temple bell and even has a museum showcasing its cultural heritage.
A fairly unique shrine with traditional straw roof, walk-through chime tunnels with mist, super intricate wood carvings, and a cool staircase leading up to it. If you can find all 3 rabbits in the wood carving, you'll be lucky. Definitely recommended to visit if you're in the area.

This shrine is surrounded by huge cedar trees, which are absolutely gorgeous. We were lucky English to visit when the bells were surrounding the shrine, which was an amazing experience. There were so many bells you could hear them from afar!
Mary — Google review
A very interesting shrine with a wealth of wooden sculpture. If you take the tour to the back, you can try to find the three rabbits hidden among the woodwork -- I could only find two! Also a modern and relaxing cafe at the entrance to the shrine. There is a famous moon ceremony at certain times of the year that requires reservations.
Aaron M — Google review
Gorgeous temple and the goshuins are beautiful.

It was a very nice shrine! Worth seeing!

Visit in Summer to hear the cicadas, or in Autumn to see the beautiful colours. Dont forget to marvel at the beautiful carvings at the back of the site, if you can spot all three rabbits, then you have a good eye. The shrine boasts a shop if you want a charm. At the bottom of the stairs is a wonderful cafe.

Yonezawa Castle Ruins, located in a historical city center, was once home to the Nagai clan and later governed by the Uesugi clan. The castle grounds are now identifiable by surrounding moats and connecting bridges leading to Matsugasaki Park. The park features statues of military commanders and politicians from the Sengoku period to the Edo period, providing an opportunity to learn about Japan's history.

(Translated by Google) This castle is one of the 100 Greatest Castles in Japan, and was the headquarters of the Yonezawa Domain during the Edo period. The surrounding earthworks and moat give the impression of a castle, but today it's probably better known as Uesugi Shrine. The moat itself is small enough that you can walk around it in about 10 minutes, so I imagine it was a relatively modest castle even in the past. The north side of the moat resembles a lotus field. I visited in September, so the peak season had passed, but I'm sure it would be a spectacular sight in the summer. Also, the flags with the characters "Bi" and "Ryu" fluttering above the main gate are really cool. Whenever I see the character "Bi," I automatically think of Uesugi Kenshin, so it's amazing how powerful imprinting can be. There are bronze statues scattered throughout the park, including a statue of Lord Uesugi Kenshin, the strongest warrior of the Sengoku period, as well as Uesugi Kagekatsu, the first lord of the Yonezawa Domain, his military strategist Naoe Kanetsugu, and the renowned ruler Uesugi Yozan, still revered and loved by many today, as well as other aces associated with the Uesugi clan. It seems that Date Masamune was born here, and although it is compact, it is a castle ruin that has been home to many stars.

Matsugasaki Park

Park
Matsugasaki Park, situated on the former grounds of Yonezawa Castle, offers a serene atmosphere with its water-filled moats and historical sites related to the influential Uesugi clan. It's a great spot for families to take a leisurely stroll and appreciate the park's beauty while also appealing to history enthusiasts interested in Japan's feudal history. The park hosts events like the Uesugi Lantern Festival, creating a magical ambiance with illuminated sakura trees and a picturesque red bridge.
A beautiful historic location, great not only for families to stroll and admire the beauty of the park, but also for those fascinated by Japan's feudal history, particularly of the Uesugi Clan. I went during the Uesugi Lantern Festival and the atmosphere was fantastic. I first went on the night the lanterns were first lit, which was pretty magical, especially seeing the (then bare) sakura trees lit up alongside the moat leading the eye to a beautiful red bridge also lit up. The next day the festival was in full swing, with food carts out selling classing Japanese festival food fare as well as souvenirs. The energy was fantastic, watching kids have snowball fights and couples taking pictures with the lanterns it was truly picturesque. I wuold love to return when the cherry blossom are in full bloom and to learn more of the Uesugi Shrine!

Museum
Toko Sake Museum, established in 1597 and managed by Kojima Sohoten, is a prominent sake museum in Tohoku. It offers an extensive display of the brewery's history and allows visitors to taste various sake varieties, including the renowned 'Toko' brand and award-winning umeshu. Housed in a historic building that was once a sake brewery, the museum features old merchant equipment exhibits, traditional room reconstructions, and a serene garden.
This sake museum is housed in a wonderful old building which was itself a sake brewery before Toko took on the responsibility for renovating it. So glad that they preserved it! It's worth checking if a guide is available to get the most out of your visit but you can also follow along with the English explanations. The exhibition of old merchant equipment and reconstructions of traditional rooms are really interesting and don't miss out on the lonely garden. It's best not to drive if visiting here so that you can do some sake sampling. Toko's sake is very high quality and, with a variety of types to choose from, you are sure to find one that you like.
Paul W — Google review
Totally worth the money. Excellent sake making displays as well as the rooms and the garden. Interesting history on the Wagu beef cattle raised locally. Sake tasting was fun, but of course I would like bigger portions, and who wouldn't? LOL. The young woman at the tasting room made a excellent recommendation to a upscale beef restaurant that was totally a great experience and reasonable priced lunch.

As a sake lover, if you are traveling Yamagata and stopping by Yonezawa, give Toko Sake Museum a visit. Toko, as one of the oldest sake breweries in Japan, produces some of the nicest sake in the market. Here, not only can you visit the museum to learn about part of the history of sake, you can also taste different sakes by Kojima Sohonten: from the brewery execlusive bottles, to the very premium top-of-the-line execellence. It is a must-visit for sake enthusiasts visit Yonezawa.

Tengendai Kogen is a magnificent resort hotel with three lift stops. The snow on the upper two stops is more cushioned, providing an optimal skiing experience. However, the resort may not be ideal for beginners as the slopes following the lifts are suited for intermediate level skiers and above. Renting full wear and equipment at Tengendai Kogen costs 5,600 units of currency, while a one-day lift pass is available for 4,990 units of currency.
I visited this hotel in March, 2023 to use its bathing facility to freshen up after a day of skiing. While the bathing facility was simple and was not a hot spring (as we were informed), it was perfect for a quick post-ski refresh and was very affordable at only 400 yen. We were perfectly refreshed for our journey back to Tokyo. Highly recommended to stop by after skiing at Tengendai!

Uesugi Hakushakutei, also known as Earl's Residence, is a must-visit in the castle town area. This nationally designated cultural tangible property is located within the Uesugi-kinenkan Memorial Hall and boasts a stunning interior alongside an exquisite Japanese garden. The architecture features sheet copper tiles for the roofs and Kisohinoki cypress for pillars and beams.
Enjoy the tastes and culture of Yonezawa at the historical preserved Japanese architecture I had a wonderful experience at Uesugi Hakushakutei for my first visit in Yonezawa and yet it is still a must-go to place whenever I'm in Yonezawa. It is a perfect place to have proper lunch or dinner as they offer you a variety of dishes that inherit the traditions of the Uesugi family and use local cuisine as well as that famous Yonezawa A5 rank bee. Everything they serve is absolutely beautiful and the staff would kindly give you the food presentation:) Also, I recently discovered that this place has developed the vegan menu (advanced reservations recommended) and it looks so good too! It is always nice to have more vegan options especially places like rural area in Japan which we can not often expect for those options..) After a lovely meals, walking in their garden would be also one of your highlight too! I went there last summer but I bet they offer you beautiful Japanese garden in every season:)

Ramen restaurant
Nestled conveniently near Uesugi Shrine, Ohoribata Sapporo is a charming ramen shop that captures the essence of traditional Japanese dining. The cozy atmosphere invites you to enjoy a unique culinary experience, especially with their signature Yonezawa ramen. This dish features handmade medium-thin curly noodles that perfectly complement the light soy sauce broth, which boasts a rich flavor profile thanks to its double soup made from dried sardines and animal stock.
(Translated by Google) I received the ramen set. The noodles are hand-made medium-thin curly noodles, and the soup is chewy and has a deep flavor. Although the soup has some back fat floating in it, it has a refreshing taste, and the overall soup is light but rich. The topping is meaty char siu. Menma, seaweed, and green onions have a good texture. The fried sliced pork garnish is crunchy and seasoned, so it's delicious as is. Thank you for the meal. This parking lot can park 2 cars in front of the store (forward parking, no backing up), and 4 cars in the contracted parking lot 4 doors away, but it's a little far away, so if you come to the store on a rainy day, bring an umbrella. I recommend that.

The atmosphere of the shop is Japanese style, and it's a little small. It's about the same size. They also had miso ramen, but I was curious about the chilled ramen so I ordered it. As the name suggests, the ramen was not hot, but rather cold. However, it wasn't just chilled normally, the noodles were more like Chinese noodles, and the soup tasted better than usual. (Translated by Google) I just moved to Yonezawa, so I came here on the recommendation of someone from Yonezawa. I had the miso ramen which was high on the menu. (Maybe the signature menu is soy sauce?) Instead of chashu, it had plenty of stir-fried vegetables and pork. The miso soup was light, but the flavor of the ingredients blended in well, making it especially delicious during the chilly weather. The noodles were a little thick and curly, and there was plenty of it. There was also 2/3 ramen, so this might be a good choice for women. Next time, I would like to try the soy sauce flavor, fried pork, and spicy miso! Soba noodle shop
If you're on the hunt for a unique dining experience, look no further than そば工房 蓼. Nestled in a charming setting, this restaurant offers an inviting atmosphere that feels both rustic and clean. The owner takes pride in crafting delicious soba noodles from homemade raw flour, ensuring each bowl is fresh and flavorful. During my visit, I enjoyed the regular plate of soba paired with delightful tempura that had an irresistible crunch—definitely a highlight!

(Translated by Google) I visited you during the holidays. The gate is very nice The garden that can be seen from the tatami room is also a wonderful shop. It must be nice to see a snow scene. For the soba, I had the board soba. When it comes to soba, I thought that in Yamagata, the dark-colored country soba was the norm, but the one here has a clarity and texture similar to Sarashina. The soba noodles were fragrant and delicious. The small bowl of soaked wild vegetables was also delicious with a strong aroma of kosiabura and kogomi❗️ (Original)

The soba noodles went down smoothly and had a fresh flavor. It was a good soba that was not pure white, but had a transparent feel and felt smooth down the throat. Tempura is especially recommended. The crunchiness when you bite into it is by far the best. The vegetables have a strong taste, and even if you add salt or soba soup, it's still delicious. The tempura is absolutely delicious, so you should go there just for that. Day 2

Northeast side of town
For day 2, we recommend exploring the northeast side side of town. Start the day off with Mount Azuma-kofuji, then wind down and take it easy by the time you get to Mausoleum of Uesugi family. All together, your day would be filled with about 7 hours of non-stop fun.

Mount Azuma-kofuji is a popular 1,705-meter-high mountain in Fukushima known for its central crater and stunning panoramic views. Every spring, as the snow melts, it leaves behind the shape of a giant white rabbit on the mountainside, signaling the start of the farming season. The mountain's appealing symmetry and soft conical shape earned it the name Kofuji, meaning 'little Fuji'.
Check the best time for autumn leaves, and you may want to visit around noon where the fog and clouds clear up. The trek up to and around the volcano is a bit difficult, assess your physical ability before attempting the hike.

While in Fukushima, I was recommended to head up mount Azuma-kofuji to enjoy the view. So come the morning, I begin my ascent and instantly was met with fantastic views as I Drove up. Each 300 meters was another great photo spot and view of the area below. Once I reached the resting area at the top, I was greeted with more great views and a fun souvenir shop that second as an educational building. It was a great experience visiting but next time I will need to prepare as the sulfur smell from the active funnels was everywhere below the summit.

So beautiful!!!! There’s paid parking that cost 500 yen for the day. The drive up was gorgeous and once you get there, make sure you climb the steps up to the crater and walk all around the rim. It’s a spectacular view and a once in a lifetime experience that shouldn’t be missed. There is a restaurant and gift shop inside the main building along with toilets both inside and out. We found it easier to go up the left side of the crater and come down the right side and the slope on the right is milder.

Great place for hiking and viewing. The road as well as the parking place can get really crowded in high season. Came back for moon-lit night photography due to the popularity of this spot.

Great intermediate hike. I don’t recommend for first time hikers to solo but you’ll be fine in a group with experienced hikers. You don’t need expensive gear to make it to the top but nice boots and crampons wouldn’t hurt. The views from the top are worth the sweat.

You can't really appreciate the engraving details unless you see it in person. Maeda Keijiro's armor was lightweight and had a ninja-like appearance. It was also incredibly rare to see the armor of Uesugi Norimasa, who bestowed the Uesugi surname on young Kenshin, still known as Nagao. Honest samurai protect honest nobles, and honest nobles back honest samurai. The complementary relationship between Kenshin and Norimasa is deeply moving. The stone lantern, reminiscent of the Mannento Pagoda, seems to boast the military readiness and obedience of the Yonezawa Uesugi clan, even in the Reiwa era. There are many armors on display, including those of Uesugi Kenshin, Kagekatsu, and Naoe Kanetsugu, but the chief among them is the armor of Maeda Keiji. The bright red armor is really cool. When I visited, a special exhibition called ``The Uesugi Vassals' Armor Exhibition'' was being held, and the armor of famous vassals such as Onikojima Yataro was also on display. There are also exhibits such as folding screens and matchlock guns. At first, I didn't include it in my travel plans as I didn't even know about the museum's existence, but I happened to see a poster of it at Yonezawa Station and decided to visit it. Rinsenji Temple, also known as Kasugayama Rinsenji, serves as the ancestral temple for the Uesugi family. This Buddhist temple houses various tombs, including those of Sentoin, the older sister of Uesugi Kenshin; Otoyo no Kata, Uesugi Yozan's concubine; and Naoe Kanetsugu. These individuals have gained prominence through their depiction in NHK's Taiga drama "Tenchijin".
(Translated by Google) This Soto Zen temple was originally located in Takada, Echigo. The temple was founded by the 11th Soto Zen master, the Imperially-given Soyu Daiko Zen master Don'ei Eo, descended from the founder of the Soto sect, Dogen, who invited his original master, the Great Abbot Isshu Shoi, to be a monk. The temple's name, "Rinsenji," comes from Lord Nagao Shigekage's posthumous Buddhist name, "Rinsenjidono Jitsukei Shoshin Daikoji." When Lord Uesugi Kenshin inherited the Uesugi clan, he invited the Uesugi clan's patron deity, Kasuga Myojin of Nara, to be enshrined there, and the mountain name was given the name "Kasugayama." Here, from the age of 7 to 14, Lord Kenshin underwent the strict teachings of the renowned monk Tenshitsu Koiku. During the reign of the second lord, Lord Kagekatsu, the Uesugi clan was transferred to Yonezawa via Aizu. It then moved to its current location in Yonezawa in 1617. It was founded by Nagao Yoshikage (deputy governor of Echigo), grandfather of Nagao Kagetora (later Uesugi Kenshin), on the 17th anniversary of his father, Shigekage, as a family temple for generations of the Nagao clan. After the Uesugi clan took power, Rinsen-ji Temple was moved to Yonezawa during the reign of the second Uesugi, Kagekatsu. Since then, it has remained highly revered by the Nagao and Uesugi families to this day. The temple grounds are home to the graves of generations of Uesugi wives and children, as well as the tombs of Naoe Kanetsugu and his wife (prefecturally designated), Takeda Nobumasa (the sixth son of Shingen, prefecturally designated), and other notable figures, including senior Uesugi vassals, gunsmiths, and scholars. The garden, known as one of Yonezawa's three most famous gardens, and the temple gate associated with the famous chief retainer Takemata Totsuna, all speak volumes of the temple's history. Within the temple, numerous calligraphy works, including the original writings of the founder Zen master, as well as handwritings by Kenshin, Kagekatsu, Yozan, and Naoe Kanetsugu, as well as numerous temple treasures, are carefully preserved and passed down. The Mausoleum of the Uesugi family is a burial ground located in Japan. It is the final resting place for members of the influential Uesugi family, who played a significant role in Japanese history during the Edo period. The mausoleum consists of several tombs and monuments built in traditional Japanese architectural style with intricate details, surrounded by beautiful gardens and ponds.
(Translated by Google) This mausoleum enshrines the 15 generations of the Uesugi family since Kenshin Uesugi. When I visited over 20 years ago, I missed the 5pm mark and could only view it from the outside, but my wish finally came true. Silence enveloped the mausoleum, and as I walked through the main street flanked by large cedar trees, I found Kenshin's mausoleum directly in front of me, with the mausoleums of past heads of the family on either side. The wooden mausoleum has a simple feel, but its construction exudes the majesty of the Uesugi family. What I felt when I visited this place was how proud the people of Yonezawa are of the Uesugi. Although the mausoleum is a national historic site, it is managed by the city, and the people working at the reception desk and other areas were local volunteers. It was a place that made me realize how much the Uesugi family has always put the people first in their governance, and that this spirit is still carried on today. There were many warlords during the Sengoku period, but I don't think there is any other warlord who is as beloved and revered by the local people as this one. It's a place I recommend visiting, along with Kasugayama in the distant Joetsu region.

You can also walk from Nishi-Yonezawa on the Yonesaka Line. There is a parking lot. Previously, mausoleums were built alternately on both sides, with the second lord, Kagekatsu, at the center. Later, when Kenshin's remains, which had been enshrined in the main keep of Yonezawa Castle, were moved to the Uesugi family mausoleum in 1876, the current landscape of mausoleums lined up in an orderly fashion with Kenshin at the center was born. Walking along the quiet, solemn approach surrounded by cedar trees, you will feel a dignified atmosphere as you come across flags bearing "Bi," symbolizing the Uesugi family, and "Ryu," representing Kenshin. In the noiseless silence, the chirps of birds and the guide's message echo. Beginning with Lord Takayama, burials were conducted in the ground, and it is interesting to note that the mausoleums of subsequent lords are different from those before. (Translated by Google) This was my first time here, but I've become a big fan of Yoshitsune Yaki❗️ There really isn't any lamb smell, and the appetite-boosting flavor can be enjoyed with or without the special spicy miso. The smoked daikon potato salad also makes a great snack, and my wife praised it highly, and it was great to be able to compare the taste of Juyondai. If I go to Yamagata, this is a restaurant I'd like to visit again😊 A reservation is essential♪ (I called back when the restaurant had calmed down a bit) (Original)

An additional serving is 1200 yen, which is good value for money😍 The fried lamb side dish was also delicious! After finishing the shabu-shabu, I wanted to eat just one serving of yakiniku shoulder, and although I felt bad about it, I asked, and they kindly prepared it for me! The shoulder is also soft and delicious - don't overcook it! This time, I had 3 servings of shabu-shabu, fried lamb, smoked daikon potato salad, choregi salad, Genghis Khan shoulder, grapefruit juice, cola float It was about 9000 yen for two people♪ I recommend the shabu-shabu😋 Thank you to the staff for listening to my whim🙏 (Original)

Nestled in the charming Onogawa Onsen area of Yonezawa City, Ryuge Diner offers a unique dining experience that combines delicious ramen with the enchanting winter scenery. The highlight of this eatery is its proximity to impressive kamakura—traditional snow huts—where visitors can enjoy their meals inside these cozy structures during the colder months. Guests rave about dishes like bean sprout ramen and nameko miso ramen, both featuring rich flavors that warm you up from within.

I wanted to eat somewhere warm, so I decided to eat inside the cafeteria. I ordered the bean sprout ramen, which most of the customers around me were eating. delicious! Light soy sauce soup with curly thin noodles! It was my favorite. Next time I'd like to wear a little more clothes and eat at Kamakura Inn. Thank you for the meal. (Translated by Google) This restaurant is located in Onogawa Onsen, Yonezawa City, Yamagata Prefecture. During the winter, we also serve as a delivery service to the Kamakura village of Onogawa Onsen. ◼️Menu I received ・Mame bean sprout ramen ・Yonezawa Ramen 2025.2 In Onogawa Onsen, during the winter months, kamakura are set up throughout the town, and events are held where you can enjoy delivered ramen inside. Today, it is finally decided. When we arrived at Onogawa Onsen, we found three kamakura huts set up in the plaza, and they were full of people enjoying the delivered ramen. The shop across the road from where the kamakura is located is Ryuka. When I asked the staff about using the kamakura, they told me that once the kamakura was empty, I would go inside and use my phone to order food by following the delivery ordering instructions provided. At that time, tell them your kamakura number and menu. By the way, when using Kamakura, 500 yen per adult will be added to the ramen price. If there is one child and two adults, an additional 1,000 yen will be added to the ramen price. Payment will be made in cash when the food arrives. We also secured a kamakura, went inside, and started delivering food using our mobile phones. It's strange to order food over the phone even though there's a restaurant right in front of you. I ordered as above. The kamakura has a solid and thick structure, and due to the recent heavy snowfall, it has a circular shape, and even more snow has piled up on top of it. Perhaps due to the warm weather today, some of the snow has melted and water droplets are falling in some places. Inside the Kamakura, there is a smell of ramen left by previous customers, but it's not that dirty, but the tables and chairs are sticky, probably due to water droplets and juices left behind. There seemed to be a shortage of supplies such as table wipes, and I wish there were more. I treated it with my own wet tissue. After waiting about 20 minutes after placing my order, a person from the shop in front of me delivered the food. They will go inside the kamakura and deliver it to you, and you will pay on the spot. The food is served wrapped in plastic wrap, as if it were for delivery, and carefully removed to prevent the juices from spilling out. [Bean sprout ramen] This ramen is unique to Onogawa and is topped with bean sprouts grown using Onogawa Onsen's special hot spring water. It is a long bean sprout with beans, and its unusual appearance and crunchy texture are interesting, and it tastes great when mixed with noodles. It comes with 2 slices of roast pork, crunchy menma, and a hot spring egg unique to hot springs. The choice of ingredients that can only be found in Onogawa Onsen is great. The noodles are of course the thin curly noodles that are typical of Yonezawa ramen, and the soup is a gentle, sweet soup made from chicken bones. It seems that pepper is sprinkled from the beginning, and the food progresses, but it seems that children need a little consideration. My child didn't pay any attention to it and ate it. When the hot spring egg is cracked, a thick, thick yolk oozes out, which is then scooped out and given to the child along with the lotus flower. The situation of eating ramen inside a kamakura probably lifted your spirits, and it was really delicious. The preservation of the kamakura depends on the weather and is expected to end around the second half of February. There is also a light installed inside the kamakura, and there is a switch behind the light at the entrance. If you don't know about this, you won't know, so the restaurant delivering the food will add it to you if they notice. I was happy because I was able to fulfill one of my long-held dreams of eating ramen at Kamakura in Onogawa Onsen. Maintaining the cleanliness inside the kamakura is up to the customers who use it, so I guess it's left up to the manners of the customers. After eating, the garbage and utensils are brought down to the rack outside the kamakura. If they were going to charge a fee to use the kamakura, I thought they should have provided more table cleaning services. I may be busy, but I would like to ask you a favor. Thank you for the meal.

Ringoen Yonezawa is a delightful dining spot in Yonezawa City, perfect for those looking to indulge in local cuisine without the lunchtime rush. Arriving before noon allows you to enjoy their offerings at a leisurely pace. The highlight here is undoubtedly the Yonezawa beef double lunch, featuring A5 rank meat that showcases exquisite marbling and flavor—definitely a treat for any meat lover!
(Translated by Google) Used for sightseeing in Yonezawa City I came in before 12:00, before it got crowded during lunch time. I ordered Yonezawa beef double lunch (¥1880 excluded) Since it was cheap, I waited for it to be served, wondering if it was a mix of Wagyu beef other than Yonezawa beef, or if the quantity was extremely small... The meat provided is A5 rank meat, which can be seen from the color and marbling, and is definitely Yonezawa beef. And I was surprised by the amount! If you get this much A5 rank meat, wouldn't it normally cost twice as much? And the ribs were extremely delicious. There was also a mega size above the W, but the W was just right (the rice was also a regular size, so it was extra 100 yen for a large size). I'm very satisfied Other lunch menu items are also attractive and value-for-money (photo) During the meal, my family and I started talking about how much cheaper it was than Anrakutei (a chain restaurant in the Kanto area). It's a level you can go to if you're in your hometown. I envy the citizens of Yonezawa. Bekoya is a restaurant that offers high-grade Yonezawa beef prepared in various ways, such as yakiniku, sukiyaki, shabu shabu, and grilled steak. The establishment has a simple yet elegant ambiance with tall windows. Customers have praised the deliciousness of the Yonezawa beef and appreciated the attentive service provided by the staff. Some diners recommend making reservations in advance to secure a semi-private room for an enhanced dining experience.
APRIL 2023 The restaurant serves Yonezawa beef cooked in different methods including yakiniku, sukiyaki, shabu shabu and grilled steak. Reserved in advance for sukiyaki and got a semi private room which was nice, really enjoyed the traditional dining atmosphere. I had the highest grade set meal which was a very good deal, much cheaper compared to eating wagyu in more populated cities such as Tokyo and Osaka. Yonezawa beef was extremely marbled and delicious, it did not feel too fatty, perfect pairing with the sweet sukiyaki sauce and the vegetables. Also the service was great, the staff prepared the pot with the ingredients, explained how Yonezawa sukiyaki is different to Kanto sukiyaki and showed me how to best cook and enjoy the wagyu and vegetables; very friendly and welcoming.

Excellent and delicious Yonezawa Beef. I had the Grilled BBQ Yonezawa Beef. Even though it was pricey, it was worth it. This is charcoal style BBQ and it does taste better when using charcoal rather than gas. The staff here were nice and the restaurant is on the fancier side. The only minor complaint was the small kids in the next booth were being noisy and playing too much but of course, the staff would not say anything. Other than that, it was definitely worth it to come here and enjoy Yonezawa Beef.

A little pricey but it is definitely worth every dollar!

traditional Japanese house and interior using lots of woods, and the best is distances from Yonezawa station is only 5-min on foot. the meat and service is also wonderful. to reserve in advance will help you to enjoy better cost performance course and prevent wasting time to wait.
