Naruto in 3 days

If you only have 3 days to spend in Naruto, we’ve narrowed down the top places you should check out to get the best experience of your time here.
Naruto is best known for its powerful tidal whirlpools in the Naruto Strait, which can be viewed up close by sightseeing boat or from walkways beneath the Ōnaruto Bridge. The city is also home to the Otsuka Museum of Art, Japan’s largest exhibition space devoted to full-scale reproductions of Western masterpieces. Nearby Naruto Park offers coastal walking paths and panoramic views of the Seto Inland Sea. The area serves as one of the traditional starting points for the Shikoku 88-temple pilgrimage, adding a layer of cultural and spiritual interest to a visit.
With favorites like Boat Race Naruto, Naruto Otsuka Sports Park, and 麺工房 わたる, we’ll make sure you don’t miss out on all the must sees. We even included some of our favorite food spots around the area, like Café de Giverny and SHIOKAZE so you can get the best taste of Naruto while you’re here. To see our full list of food recommendations, check out our best restaurants post. If you're traveling on a budget, you can check out our cheap eats post.

Museums
The Otsuka Museum of Art, located in Naruto City, Tokushima Prefecture, was established by the Otsuka Group to celebrate its 75th anniversary. The museum houses over 1,000 full-size reproductions of famous Western artworks such as the 'Mona Lisa' and 'The Last Supper' by artists like Picasso, Renoir, and da Vinci.
Really enjoyed the museum. We arrived right around lunch time and decided to eat at the restaurant before walking around the museum. Lunch was very tasty and came out quite quickly. The menu is limited though, so if you have dietary preferences, you may want to eat elsewhere first. Lots to see in the museum. We spent about 3 hours looking around, if you’re really into art and analyzing paintings, you’ll need more time to really look at everything.

Visiting the **Otsuka Museum of Art** was such a cool experience! It's not your usual museum—everything is **ceramic reproductions** of famous Western masterpieces, but they're all **life-sized**, so it feels like you're touring the world's best galleries in one place. The **Sistine Chapel replica** was mind-blowing—you can even **take photos** (which you usually can't in real museums!). My favorite was Van Gogh’s *Sunflowers*—so vibrant! The museum is huge (4km of galleries!), so wear comfy shoes. A bit pricey (¥3,300 for adults), but totally worth it for art lovers!
TimBerg — Google review
It has 5 floors of remade art. Its not the real thing. But still fun to observe and see with your own eyes. I appreciate they have arrows on the ground to point which direction you should go. They have many cafes and places to sit and enjoy the view. I appreciate how many chairs were available to sit and relax in. I was there for 5 hours. I would have loved to stay longer. But with time constraints we had to head out. I do appreciate the lighting and the recreation. It makes you want to see the work in person. I hope I can do so one day. I would plan this as a whole day event. But if you are with kids that might not be possible. The Naruto whirlpool tours boat are near by if you want to find something different. Enjoy and take your time.

The Otsuka Museum of Art is a huge Museum that cannot be covered in one day and needs few days to see everything. The collection of reproductions from all periods, starting from ancient history through midevil, Renessainc, Baroque, Impressionist period, expressionist, until modern art is amazing. Highly recommended to any art lover!
Ehud B — Google review
Excellent museum with a lot of interesting painting and presentation. 3300 yen of entrance fees was worth. There were a lot of exhibits and easily 4 hours could be spent here. There is a museum parking located (600m awat) near the naruto sightseeing boat parking. The museum is courteous enough to provide free shuttle vice versa.
Hock T — Google review
This is my favorite museum in Japan. Everything is a reproduction made by transferring ceramic two boards. You can take pictures, you can shoot video, you could even touch them.
L.E. O — Google review
This is a marvellous museum. If you visit Japan, do make an effort to visit this highly unique museum too. It is like this: whilst in Japan, you can tour the most historic and famous tourist destinations of Greece, Italy, Spain and others, all at once. How? They have recreated these places with astonishing technology. The technique of applying every colour to tiles – meaning any colour or image can be depicted on tiles. For instance, the most famous Impressionist paintings appear utterly lifelike, yet they are actually projections onto tiles. Visitors are even encouraged to touch them, revealing they are neither originals nor actual paintings. It is truly astonishing what modern technology can achieve. I repeat, this museum is an absolute must-visit. You will not be disappointed. After all, you can experience famous sights from around the world all in one place.
Max H — Google review
It is a MASSIVE museum with thousands of famous paintings in the world. It would take half a day to explore the entire area. These paintings are not the original ones but very close replicas. They offer some museum tours and it is very helpful for understanding the background of the works. I am not sure if they offer tours in English or other languages, but I think at least they provide an audio tool that explains them. The museum doesn’t just have a great replicas that made from pottery. It also replicates surrounding areas like caves and architecture transporting visitors to different places. Additionally, there is a lovely cafe where you can enjoy some food and drinks related to the arts and the area.

Naruto Park is located in Minami-Awaji and offers a unique blend of attractions, including casual restaurants, a viewing deck with stunning views of the Naruto whirlpools in the Naruto Strait, and traditional cultural experiences such as Awaji puppet theater. The Otsuka Museum of Art within the park showcases life-size reproductions of renowned Western art pieces from various eras.
Best place to watch whirlpool From all directions. Should try watch by boat, for closest view n great sensation. You must spend more money to buy entrance ticket than just looking from observation deck. Once for a lifetime is enough for me, this is one of main attraction here. Enjoy your time as well.

A must if you like spectacular views of great bridges or just enjoy panoramic scenic views. Take the escalator, makes things much easier

Incredible movement of water during tidal movements over a narrow straight. At times the water on one side of the bridge is much higher than the other creating a waterfall.

I was here on golden week and very lucky with the weather. I took the bus from tokushima station and is about one hour 10 minutes as the last stop. Chanen Observatory is very beautiful and from there I can see the sizes of whirlpool. I recommend not taking the boat unless the whirlpool is at its highest. Truly enjoyed the Uzu-no Michi walkway. It took me 4 hours in total to walk around . The must see spot when visit Tokushima .
Annie C — Google review
Get the combo ticket for the observatory and the underneath the bridge walk to save some money. Great views!

The world famous Naruto Swirl. Passengers can take walk beneath Naruto bridge (with fee, about 500 Yen/adult). The walk way is about 500 meters long and 5 rest areas are located in the middle (there is rest room in the end side as well). It’s wonderful to feel the minor vibrations when vehicles drive overhead roads. Under your feet, you can see swirls if arriving at right tide time. The wind is a bit strong. A spectacular spot deserving your visit!
Nick L — Google review
Sea swirl is interesting and the view from the park is great. Nice place to stop by if you are passing by when driving or going to the art museum, but not sure if it is worth visiting only for the view as it is quite away from downtown. Also you have to check the right timing to see the sea swirl (check this out from the website)

This is the parking lot (500 yen a time) nearby the whirlpool observatory. Also have souvenirs shop. I saw Naruto bridge and some cherry blossoms on the way to the observatory.

Tokushima Prefectural Uzu-no-Michi Walkway, also known as Whirlpool Road, is a unique glass-floored walkway located under the Damingmen Bridge in Mingmen Strait, Japan. This nearly 500-meter long walkway offers stunning views of the Naruto Whirlpools in the Naruto Straits.
It's an underway passage/observatory under the bridge so it's possible to look and admire the whirlpools without taking a boat into the see. Nice experience.
Alberto T — Google review
I visited on 21 July and checked the tide schedule on the website in advance, picking the time for the strongest whirlpool that day. The walk to the viewing area was much longer than expected, and the worst part was that we could not even go further in to see the main whirlpool area where the sightseeing ships pass. Part of the bridge was under renovation and scaffolded, and the door to continue further was shut. I am not sure if it is always like this or if we were just unlucky that the bridge was closed halfway. To make things worse, there was an unpleasant toilet-like smell along the way to the viewing point. Overall, it was not worth the admission fee even though it’s inexpensive.
Leh P — Google review
Please note the Google hours mentioned are for summer and for winter they are earlier. Last entry is 4:30 m and it closes at five. It is at least a five maybe 10 minute walk from the top car park to where you buy tickets to go in. Parking cost ¥500 (we actually stayed in our campervan overnight and as long as you leave by 8:15 you won't be charged for the next day. We stayed here overnight because we had dogs and there's a little walk you can do to an observatory and lookout point where you can look down towards the whirlpools so if you arrive out of hours, I suggest you try this. The toilets were open all night while we were there. Great view early morning when the car park is empty before it starts to get busy.
Maria N — Google review
When you buy the tickets (¥510pp), you also receive a beautiful post card! Eventhough it is late May, the walkway was not only windy but cold too! Do bring a thin coat at least. Wow. The views of the swells creating the whirlpools are spectacular indeed. A pity the bridge structure may obstruct views. Improvise to look for the best angles! Best visited in the morning or late afternoon depending on the tide. Check online for the best date/time to coincide with your trip here.
Mel M — Google review
there is a set timing daily to see the whirlpool (during high tide), you may have to wait a few hours. they will display high tide time at the entrance. unfortunately i went at the wrong time free coin return locker. very nice staff that tries to educate me on the whirlpool despite language barrier! i also got some postcard gifts and craft from 2 of the older staff maybe i’ll return again if im near tokushima again..
H — Google review
Great view of the tide, staffs speak a bit of English and friendly. Currently there are renovation works going on, so some of the views are obstructed, otherwise, it could have been better.
Worawat L — Google review
Do t waste your time. They charge for a natural sight. It says a lot per se. And a hearty parking fee to add insult to injury! Just go around the corner and you can see this natural beauty without being robed

Points of Interest & Landmarks
The Naruto Whirlpools, located near the city of Tokushima in Shikoku, are a natural wonder that can be observed from boats or nearby viewpoints. These large tidal whirlpools occur below the Onaruto Bridge and are most prominent in the morning and afternoon when there is a significant volume of water moving through the strait connecting the Seto Inland Sea and the Pacific Ocean. They can reach up to 20 meters across during spring and summer.
What a beautiful place! Must check the tides and boat schedules to know the best times to experience the whirlpools. Highly recommend a boat trip and then a trip up to the visitors center and you can walk under the bridge on an enclosed catwalk. There are lots of informational pictures and narratives in Japanese and English. You can also view the whirlpools from the glass windows in the floor of the bridge. Then go up to the viewpoint on the cliff where the feudal lords used to enjoy the whirlpools during Edo period. For the boat trip we didn’t have reservations in advance and were able to purchase tickets about 30 minutes before departure from the ticket office on the larger boat. The smaller boat with glass bottom requires advance ticket reservations. Definitely going back with advance reservations for a glass bottom boat ride.
CJ S — Google review
Visited the Naruto Whirlpools and enjoyed the views from the hilltop observation area. The whirlpools were fascinating to watch as the tides created those powerful swirling currents below. It’s a great spot for photos and to appreciate nature’s force from a safe distance. The viewing area is well maintained with clear signage and facilities. Even without taking a boat tour, it’s definitely worth a visit if you’re nearby.
Eric — Google review
The Naruto Whirlpools only appear during high or low tide. Be sure to check the tide times to catch the whirlpools at their best. We paid the ticket price to walk under the bridge to catch the whirlpools from above. Sadly we missed the peak of the ebb tide. We did see the whirlpools from the bridge surface a few days before and found them to be a spectacular sight. Take the time to walk the observation areas on and off the Onaruto Bridge to get a true sense of just how huge the tidal surge can be. At the southern observatory there are cafes and snack stands to enjoy as well.
Rob L — Google review
One of the amazing experiences I’ve ever had. They offer like a Uzushio forecast that expects how possible it is to see whirlpool each hour. When I visited it showed the level would be not so high, but it was pretty sunny so I took the next boat. There are 2 types of boats you could take, one with an underwater view and the other that is bigger and not necessary to book in advance. I took the one with an underwater view and was amazing!! The whirlpool was not big just as the forecast said but I was so excited to see small whirlpools. The staff told me that the diameter of it would be about 20 meters if it’s the perfect time. Just seeing a big bridge was nice. I highly recommend this activity.
Toraneko — Google review
Was looking forward to seeing this amazing natural phenomenon. On hols from Oz. Travelled a couple of hours to get there. Paid a fee to access the observation deck from the bridge. My advice is do your homework before you go, its crucial otherwise in my opinion it's a waste of time going. Read that the whirlpools are best viewed at high and low tides and at certain times of the year. We didn't tick any of those boxes and it was very apparent. Was still a pleasant outing looking at the Naruto Strait.
Julia M — Google review
A must see. located in the Naruto Strait near Awaji Island in Japan, which have speeds of 26 km/h (16 mph). A whirlpool is a body of rotating water produced by opposing currents or a current running into an obstacle.

Café de Giverny, located in a tourist spot, offers ample seating and short wait times for orders between 11:30 and 14:00 on Mondays. The restaurant's ambiance is a pleasant blend of a food court and a traditional eatery. With comfortable terrace seats, it provides an ideal place to unwind after exploring B2 floor. Visitors can enjoy delicious seafood bowls and roast beef sets while taking advantage of regional coupons to ease the cash burden.
Very good cafe in the museum. They have only 3 main dishes but it's more than enough. Their seafood rice was fresh and delicious. Their sweets were awesome. Don't miss it when you visit a museum.

Another café inside the Otsuka Art Museum. The scent of curry pushed me to try the Venus curry (a Japanese word play), but I personally believe the seafood bowl is the wiser choice, using fresh fish from the area. Crowd Size: Very High Payment Method: Credit Card

Really quite nice place for a quick bite when touring the museum, had the kaisen don which was pretty fresh and served with pickles and a nice seaweed soup and the curry katsu which was chunky and nicely paired with pickled onion and was good and the dessert was great as well the strawberry cake nicely moist and well done. Would recommend if your pretty hungry.

A slice of chocolate cake crowned with whipped cream and a ruby-red strawberry, alongside a warm cup of coffee—pure bliss. The rich chocolate chunks added a luxurious touch. Imagine savoring it while admiring the serene beauty of water lilies, as if stepping into a Monet canvas!

After walking through the miles of museum exhibits, this cafe provides a welcome resting spot. It offers both meals and desserts. We tried the meals. Some of our party had the steak and others had the curry. The flavors were mild, so if you like mild flavors, it might suit you. The good point was that the portions were huge. You won’t leave this cafe hungry if you try one of the meals.

It seats over 200 people and features an open terrace overlooking a pond recreating Monet's "Water Lilies." ◆Order Menu ・Green Harmony ・Seared Sea Bream Rice Bowl ・Venus Curry Every meal was terrible. Nothing was tasty. The curry rice was soggy and clumpy, and the sea bream had no soy sauce or flavor, not even a hint of sesame sauce. If I had to eat here, I'd probably go for the chicken cutlet curry... Green Harmony is still better. All of these dishes are priced like a typical tourist spot, and it's hard to believe they cost 1,500 yen... The quality is below that of a food court or diner. It's a place for families with children or those not interested in food to get by. Location may be everything. SHIOKAZE is a noteworthy dining establishment located in the Onaruto bridge sightseeing area, offering patrons stunning views of the bridge and beautiful coastline. This Japanese regional restaurant is renowned for its excellent fish dishes, particularly their special snapper dish priced at 1600yen each. While it may not be considered a fancy restaurant that requires going out of one's way to visit, SHIOKAZE stands out as one of the best options in the area.
Had a fantastic experience at SHIOKAZE 郷土料理 潮風, located near the Naruto Whirlpool and Onaruto Bridge. It's just a short walk from the public car park, making it easy to find. Ordering and payment are done at the entrance counter first, which streamlines the process. The staff were friendly and spoke good English, which made the experience even more enjoyable. We had a wonderful view over lunch, adding to the overall ambiance. The food was delicious, and it’s a great place for a cheap and cheerful meal with amazing scenery. Highly recommend it for anyone visiting the area! 5 stars all the way.

I think I came here with too much of a high expectation as this place was highly recommended for its Tai fish rice bowl in a travelling guide book. The fish meat was tough and hard to chew, the saving grace was the sauce and the seaweed soup, they were delicious. I suspect the issue could be the inadequate knife skill of the sushi chef slicing the fish into the pieces the wrong way, but that is just my non-professional opinion, what do I know about being a chef. Pity....

Buddhist temple
Sights & Landmarks
Place of worship
Sacred & Religious Sites
Nestled in Naruto Town, Tokushima Prefecture, Ryozen-ji Temple stands as a beautifully restored 8th-century Buddhist site and the first stop on the revered Shikoku pilgrimage. This temple has been recognized as the official starting point since the 1600s and holds significant ties to Kukai, also known as Kobo Daishi, who founded Shingon Buddhism. Visitors can admire its lantern-lit hall that exudes a serene atmosphere, especially enchanting during cherry blossom season.
This is a beautiful temple. This is a part of the Shikoku 88 Temple Pilgrimage. The structures and the Koi fish are beautiful sights to behold. If you are commuting by train, take the Takamatsu Line to Bando Station and from Bando Station follow the green line on the road then you'll get there. Use Google Maps of not sure. Enjoy your visit!
Angelie B — Google review
A pleasant temple with a friendly restaurant next door. Mostly what I wanted to leave a comment about is that there's a ton of information out there on starting a proper Henro pilgrimage but a good portion of the visitors were clearly doing what I was doing--a kind of casual visit to the first few pilgrimage temples as a teaser/taster--and I'd seen no information on that. Some notes from my experience: * From Bando station there's a sign saying "pilgrims follow the green line" (painted on the road). It could not be easier to navigate. * Get the Henro Helper app, it has some suggestions that Google Maps won't. For example, when leaving this temple cross the road and follow the green line back but turn right instead of going back to Bando station. This leads you down a pleasant backstreet instead of trudging along the highway breathing in the exhaust. * Approaching Konsen-ji (#3) there is a path departing from the road which is both a shortcut and a nicer trail to the temple's back door. This is in the app, but it also highlights the importance of keeping your eyes peeled for pilgrim signs, usually with red arrows, pictures of pilgrims or the text "へんろ" (henro). These are everywhere you might get confused, keep your eyes peeled. I saw some pilgrims ahead of me on the road who had missed the very clear sign for this turnoff. * Konsen-ji is the last temple that's really close a train station, but it's a real shame to stop there because the next section to Dainichi-ji (#4) is much nicer, with some reasonably long segments through bamboo forest that feel like real trails, rather than suburbia. Also a giant camphor tree at the base of a staircase up to a shrine. If you want even a taste of the pilgrim experience you owe it to yourself to not stop at three as I had seen suggested in another comment. * If you've started in the morning, the path from Dainichi-ji to Jizo-ji (#5) will take you past a fancy bakery where you can reward yourself with a cream puff. A short while later at Jizo-ji you can pay a small amount to walk the halls housing its collection of 500 arhat statues, which I think makes for a great climax to a short walk if you don't want to continue on. There's an easy bus to Itano Station, but that only brings us to about 8km total so you can also just walk back. * I saw about 50/50 visitors in pilgrim getup vs just in hiking gear. I was in the latter camp since I decided I was a tourist and not a pilgrim. No need to stress about it if you are not doing it seriously. * Even though this route is mostly in suburban Tokushima I still saw three snakes in two hours. I believe all innocuous rat snakes rather than pit vipers, but still: pay attention to the ground!

Ryozenji Temple is a serene and spiritually rich destination that beautifully marks the beginning of the legendary Shikoku Pilgrimage. Its peaceful atmosphere and historical significance make it a must-visit for travelers and pilgrims alike.

A beautiful shrine. It is the starting point of the traditional shikokuhenro - lots to visit inside and the main shrine was stunning - you can light a candle with wishes (already) printed on it. Make sure to buy a bag of fish food to feed the lovely fish in the pond as well.
Roy C — Google review
The hundreds of lighted lanterns in the hondo are especially beautiful. Also, about a 15~20 minute walk north of the temple is Tokushima's largest, most important Shinto shrine, Oasahiko Jinja. It's worth a jaunt to visit and the giant camphor tree in the precincts.
Martin H — Google review
The first temple, and I'm not starting anything. Yeah, I'm guessing in my own strange way, I'm on the Henro. I'll probably make no more than 15 temples on my circle of the island. It can be overwhelming. I guess the Henro is all about Shingon Buddhism and Kukai - I'm clueless. They always use the word esoteric when describing this school of Buddhism. I keep looking this word up over and over but it's still unclear to me. I guess I prefer Jodo Buddhism the most. I kept saying the nembutsu over and over while I was here. And I also kept saying: Mappo to Jodo. Hey check this out: I saw a protein deficient beautiful girl over and over - first on the train, then the walk from the station - at this temple as well. She didn't smile or even acknowledge me. Maybe she thinks I want something from her that I probably don't won't can't. When I see a girl like this, it's still unclear to me about what to do when I know I shouldn't do or think anything. I think this is because I could've gone to school with her grandfather. Why am I like this?

Gokuraku Temple is a serene Buddhist temple that is part of a pilgrimage walk, offering a peaceful respite from the hustle and bustle of Japan's big cities. While not particularly unique compared to other temples, its gardens are particularly soothing. The temple is conveniently located near another temple and can be visited as part of a 2-3 hour walk through Japan's countryside. It is known for its calming atmosphere, making it a popular destination for those looking to relax and find inner peace.

Udon noodle restaurant
Funamoto-udon Oasa-ten is a popular spot in Naruto, known for its delicious udon noodles. The restaurant has a cozy atmosphere and is often bustling with regular customers. The Naruchuru udon and Kakiage udon are highly recommended dishes, offering simple yet flavorful combinations. The noodles have an uneven thickness and length, providing a unique texture. Despite being called udon, it differs from Sanuki udon and resembles Kishimen or Donbei.
(Translated by Google) I'm from Tokushima, but this was my first time trying naruchuru udon. It's different to the udon I usually eat, but it was delicious in its own way. I was surprised by the thin and curly udon noodles! ️ Shikoku is Sanuki Udon Prefecture, and I didn't know there was such a local udon. If you prefer warm udon, which tends to be softer and less chewy, like Sanuki udon, we recommend cold bukkake. In places like Nagano, the firmness of soba is the key, and people eat zaru soba even in the middle of winter (lol). Here, too, if you want to enjoy the firmness that goes down your throat, we recommend the ``cold bukkake.'' ✨

(Translated by Google) I ordered tempura and soba. I like to go when there are fewer people, so I went around 4pm. I didn't really like the wasabi and tempura sauce, but other than that, I really liked the taste. I felt that the soba sauce was more delicious when I put it in my mouth and ate the soba directly rather than dipping it in. The soba was refined, so the soba soup was also thin. I like it thick, so it was a bit disappointing. But the soba had a gentle aroma and was delicious. It was boiled just right. The condiments were grated daikon radish, chives, and quail eggs. The tempura looked thick at first glance, but it was light and crispy when I ate it. The shrimp was cooked well. I don't know if the people here like shrimp or can catch them, but it seems that domestic shrimp is the norm. For me, who has only eaten shrimp from overseas, Tokushima is a place that deals with the best ingredients. The sweet sushi is flavored with yuzu and has a lot of seafood, which is very good. The various set meals are voluminous, and customers come and go frequently during lunch. There is a daily lunch menu on fixed days of the week, and you can also order a wide variety of single items. The seafood chirashi lunch on Wednesdays and Saturdays is probably vinegared rice. I go there quite a bit, and I never get tired of the taste. The soba is delicious, and the raw soba is recommended. It seems that kettle-fried udon is popular, but the recommended dish is the kitsune udon. The huge fried rice is soaked in plenty of soup stock, and it's sweet to my liking. (Translated by Google) I ate cutlet curry udon. Perhaps because I made it in advance, the noodles were soft and not very chewy. The pork cutlet was freshly fried, but the meat was tough and not good. The curry has a very strong flavor, and there's so much of it that you can't even see the noodles or tonkatsu. Personally, I would be happy if the amount was a little smaller, at least so that you could see the tonkatsu. It's not a restaurant where you can have a quick meal of udon and the prices are high. In addition to udon, there is a wide variety of rice dishes, and there are also set meals, so I think this is a restaurant you would choose if you are dining with your family or with others. The Eddy Onaruto Bridge Memorial Hall is a museum that features fascinating displays showcasing the Naruto whirlpools and bridge. The exhibits provide valuable insights into the formation of these magnificent natural wonders and the construction of the bridge. Additionally, visitors can enjoy scenic views from the observatory, adding to their overall experience. This attraction is highly recommended for those interested in learning about nature's mesmerizing swirls and experiencing Japan's cultural heritage.
I visited a museum that had me going in circles - literally! Needless to say, I was a bit dizzy by the end of it, but I have to admit, it was a pretty fun and unique experience.
Harry H — Google review
A cute, 30-minute experience museum explaining the science behind the whirlpools as well as a photograph collection of famous bridges in Japan and around the world. If you ever had that one friend who was obssessed over bridges, this would be the business he'd own. All descriptions and guides are in Japanese only, though they have a fair amount of English advertising.
Afiq S — Google review
A tad underwhelming. Most exhibits were repeats of the writeups seen along the walkway. However, much effort for VR and interactive / immersive experiences for visitors to appreciate the feeling within a whirlpool.
YJ — Google review
It is a museum that introduces the whirlpool phenomenon and also the local region. They sell combo tickets that give you entry to this museum and the uzu no michi , but maybe you can skip this one if you don’t have much time.
T K — Google review
Elaborate museum on the bridge, other bridges in Japan. Very, very limited English support. Expensive. If you can hike more toward the bridge itself, the view of the structure is incredible, and free. However, this building has a better view of the whirlpool itself (best seen from a boat, however)

The proximity of the race track to the athletic field Boat Race Naruto is a notable advantage, accompanied by its impressive scoring system. I was surprised at how much it had changed, it was beautiful, and my expectations and buying habits had all changed. There was an entrance fee of 100 yen, but I remembered that it used to be 50 yen. Yakisoba back then was delicious. There were many tipsters, and if I bought one, I would get a one-third chance of winning, but almost no one bought it. And even though there were only doubles and doubles, I still won Manshu many times. Dividends back then weren't much different than they are now. Today's boat racers, which only approach the course, have no stiffness and no finishing touches. It's a course, so it's not fun because it's all about starting out. However, the image of the old grandstand seats has completely changed, and the 8,000 yen room was really nice. 11,000 yen becomes 8,000 yen! I'm glad I was right in front of the 1 mark. However, with a wide view and even the Ko-Naruto Bridge within sight, it's a fantastic location. Even in summer, the wind is relatively strong, so it doesn't feel too hot. The floor space is as compact as Biwakoto, if not more, but there are multiple restaurants and shops, so you'll have no trouble finding food, merchandise, or souvenirs. The facility was recently renovated, so everything is clean. The shuttle bus is more frequent than at other venues, and there are multiple bus stops nearby, making access surprisingly convenient. With a hot spring facility next door and numerous tourist attractions nearby, this is a great option even for non-gambling visitors. The only drawback is the lack of air conditioning in the restrooms. At 10 a.m. on the day of the general game, there were plenty of empty parking lots and I was able to park near the entrance. Enter the 100 yen coin gate and go to the information desk on the right. When I asked how to purchase a paid reserved seat, I was kindly told that I could purchase it directly at the 3rd floor paid reserved seat entrance, but that I would get a 10% discount if I purchased it with my Naru-chan Card (cashless IC card), so I proceeded to issue it (ID required). The Naru-chan Card can be used for boat tickets (purchase/refund) and at shops, and once you accumulate points, you can exchange them for cash or coupons. I was able to get a discount on the paid reserved seat on the 3rd floor. There is free drink service from vending machines, and there is also one TV monitor per person (the power switch is at the top of the back of the monitor, making it hard to find) and an outlet. For snacks, you have to leave your reserved seat and go to the 3rd floor shop or the 1st floor food court to buy them, but you can bring them to your reserved seat. The first floor shop (Yamazaki Daily) also has Naru-chan goods. When I looked at the entry list, there was a racer from Okinawa Prefecture, so I tried to buy a commemorative winning boat ticket, but apparently it was only sold in a limited number of machines, so a staff member took me there and I was able to buy it without any problems (I lost). Although the boat ticket was a big loss, all the staff were kind and polite and we had a great time. The Naruto German House is a museum dedicated to the experiences of German prisoners in Japan during WWI. It stands as a symbol of goodwill between Naruto and the German city of Lueneburg, both sister cities. The house is built on the site where over 1,000 German soldiers were held captive for three years. Visitors can explore mementos of their daily lives, tools, and cultural objects.
A lesser-known tourist spot (I assume) - this museum showed the history of how the German prisoners in WWI stayed in Japan - and were able to live harmoniously with the locals. Interesting piece of local history and really worthy to come here and have a look. There were parking lots just next to the museum.

The lack of an acutal testimony from a then-prisoner-of-war, excessive uses of words like "wonderful", exaggerated and comical acting in the holograms depicting daily lives at the prison as well as a in a supposed dialogue between the chief manging offcer and his subordinate etc, bring questions about its authenticy and the level of seriousness of the museum. They fail to provide visitors with a proof of objectivity, neither with explanation about how and how many prisoners died during the period that lasted longer than 4 years. (There is a monument nearby for those soldiers)
Air S — Google review
It’s a fun visit if you’re interested in historical Japan and it’s foreign relations with Germany during and right after the war. There were a few areas that had English descriptions but most of the exhibits only had Japanese and German. There’s a little cafe outside that serves food. I recommend trying it out too. PS: Photography is not allowed inside.
Ahlin G — Google review
Bottom line- if you're interested in history and in the area, you will enjoy it. If you don't care much for history, just want to see European architecture, or will be disappointed by a lack of English information, skip it. •Exhibits- The animatronic musical performance was nice, if not a little kitschy. The music is kind of interesting because there were no women in the choir, you can hear Beethoven's 9th Symphony with only male voices. There were interesting photos and models throughout. •Languages- All displays have Japanese, most have German, and some randomly have English. The animatronic performance and accompanying video are narrated in Japanese with German subtitles. Because of this, I was hungry for more information, and decided to try to look more up later; there was a bit to be learned from the English available, but some important pieces were missing. •History that I could make out, whether through English information or my broken Japanese- the German soldiers were captured in China in WWI and were brought here; this camp was heralded throughout the world as being a humane POW camp; the soldiers seemed to live in the town almost as regular citizens (?); most of the soldiers captured knew some other trade or skill, so they taught them to the local Japanese residents in exchange for the locals' trades; the prisoners performed Beethoven's 9th Symphony for the first time in Japan. •Gift shop- mostly German imports: chocolate, snacks, pickles, sauerkraut, salad dressing, beer, etc. They had Easter chocolates when I went in March. There is a cafe just outside of the grounds that has some Japanese-German and Japanese options.

This definitely a great piece of history of first world war. The German POWs who were brought to here Japan placed at a prison which located at the present structure. You will love if you are history lover. Otherwise, there is not much in offer. You will wonder at the level of freedom the POWs received those days at this prison.
Gouranga P — Google review
There were about 3,900 mostly German and some Austrian prisoners of war during world war I. They were treated well by the Japanese authority and the prisoners also showed their skills and abilities through practicing science, arts, music, sports, agriculture etc. The museum is to keep those memories and learnings throughout generations.

The shrimp tempura 🦐 and whiting tempura were both super plump! ️ Last time, I had the striped jack sashimi set meal, which was also amazing. 😋 The fish is always so fresh, as the owner purchases it at the market every morning. 🐟 Uzushio Shokudo is the reason I come to Naruto.

(Translated by Google) We stopped by after the Uzushio Steamship! There was no line and the parking lot was empty, so we thought it might be closed! We were a bit worried, but it was open. There was a single-item display case at the entrance, and the register was just past the menu. We ordered and then sat down (we paid later). We had a sashimi set meal (sea bream) and wild rock oysters with sudachi liquor. The portioning seemed a bit sparse, but it was only for a moment. The seared sea bream, eaten with salt, was even more delicious than the one in Matsuyama last year. ◎ The taste varies greatly depending on the part and cooking method. The pleasure of Shikoku is here. The rock oysters were richer in flavor than the Yamakita (Niigata) oysters we had a week ago, so we savored them. My companion, who rarely eats sweets, liked them so much that she recommended dessert to others (lol). The sweetness was just right and delicious. It was a restaurant I'd definitely like to visit again!

The turnover was surprisingly slow, so I waited an hour before entering the restaurant ^^ [Restaurant characteristics] ☆Sashimi set meals and grilled fish set meals are popular ☆Family-run, cozy interior ☆A very popular restaurant with locals and tourists Ordered menu □Sashimi set meal: Sea bream sashimi 1,760 yen Set includes small dishes, salad, miso soup, rice, and jelly Sea bream comes in four varieties: sashimi, seared, marinated, and kombu-jime The meat has a strong texture and is very rich in flavor! Definitely one of the best sea bream I've ever eaten! Small dishes include cold tofu, egg omelet, and kiriboshi daikon The egg omelet with dashi stock and the lightly seasoned kiriboshi daikon! The miso soup with boiled sea bream was also excellent! While each dish in the set meal was substantial, the portion size of the sea bream sashimi was a little small. I ordered a large portion of rice, but am I the only one who doesn't like the balance between the side dishes and the rice? But it was really delicious! Thanks for the meal! It was a pleasant stay! The room was spacious. The staffs were really friendly. Dinner and Breakfast were tasty. It is only 5 minutes walk from Otsuka Museum. Note that the closest convenient store is about 15 minutes by car.

This hotel is far beyond my expectation! I made my booking on official website (using English translation). As it does not require any credit card guarantee or advance payment, I was worried if I could even get a room at all. On the day of arrival, they gave us a very spacious sea side japanese room with bath tub (My room plan was omakase where it leaves to the host to assign any available room). I was very happy as I was expecting you receive the cheapest room (no seaview, no bathtub). Front desk was very friendly as well. There was a girl who could speak English. We tried their breakfast as well, very good. Overall speaking, this is an underrated hotel. It has great location to the art museum and whirlpool, room is very spacious. Don't be fooled by the average look building, inside is very nice. Highly recommend!

Rooms were so large and luxurious!! I was so impressed. It is right next to the beach and has its own spa which over looks the ocean. There is not much else around but I loved my stay! I look forward to coming back some day!

Ramen restaurant
Inotani Naruto-ten is a popular canteen known for its Chinese-style ramen soup with pork and raw egg. The place tends to get crowded during dinner time, but the turnover is quick as people don't linger. Customers order at the counter, pay, and then find a seat. The wait is short, and the taste of their Tokushima ramen is highly regarded.
I had my first experience with Tokushima ramen. The soup was delicious and extremely tasty. I was unsure about the raw egg on top, but it surprisingly complemented the dish perfectly. Highly recommended!

(Translated by Google) I visited this restaurant on my way from Tokushima Airport to Naruto Park. It's located off the main thoroughfare, but I was able to find it easily using my car navigation system. It has a fairly large parking lot. The restaurant has the feel of a Showa-era diner. There are many autographs of famous people. It uses a ticket system and only accepts cash; large denomination bills are not accepted. Water is self-service. You can choose between medium and large ramen, and choose your meat and egg toppings. The 150 yen for rice seems a bit pricey. It was 11am on a Saturday, and there was no line, so I was able to enter smoothly. The ramen was less rich than I expected, and the seasoning was strong to go with the rice. The rice served was quite old. It's a famous restaurant, so it's worth visiting at least once, but that's about it. Thank you for the meal.

It is a 百名店 but didn't really feel like it - very down to earth, full of office workers. The ramen itself was good, a little small but just right for its strong flavour. Free parking right across the road. Cash only.

(Translated by Google) While traveling in Tokushima, I stopped by this restaurant hoping to try the famous Tokushima ramen. I ordered the large bowl (1,050 yen) with meat, egg, and bamboo shoots. It had a unique sweet and spicy flavor and was quite good. The value for money wasn't great, though. I would normally give this restaurant four stars, but there were egg shells in the ramen, so I gave it three stars.

(Translated by Google) I arrived from Kobe before opening on the middle day of a three-day weekend. There were about 10 people waiting. The shutters opened at 10:30 when the restaurant opened, and I entered. I bought a ticket from the ticket machine and was forced to sit in the seat designated by the staff. The noodles were a little hard, but the taste was average. I ordered the ramen with meat, but it was a poor-tasting ramen with only scattered bits of pork that tasted like it had been stewed in a sweet and spicy sauce. A large bowl with bamboo shoots and meat cost 1000 yen. Any ramen shop in the Keihanshin area will give you a mountain of pork for 1000 yen. If it were 600 yen, I would give it 3 stars, but the queue and the high price meant it was minus 2. It's not worth waiting in line for, and I probably won't be going again.

Unagi restaurant
Fujisakiya is a renowned restaurant known for its delectable barbecued fresh water eel. While eel can be pricey, the quality and taste make it worth trying. The establishment prides itself on offering an extensive selection of eel dishes, making it a must-visit for eel enthusiasts. Guests also appreciate the inviting ambiance and overall dining experience at Fujisakiya.

Eel. All eel. If you don't like eel, go home.
Adam S — Google review
(Translated by Google) I visited without a reservation, but surprisingly I was served without a long wait. Today I ordered eel juge. The slightly smaller eel is slightly thinner. It's crispy, but the skin is a little difficult to cut. It doesn't feel fluffy and feels too soft. Unfortunately, when I put it in my mouth, there were a lot of small bones and my mouth hurt. Even when I left the store, bones were still stuck in my teeth and throat. The sauce is too sweet and has a unique taste...maybe it won't work. The atmosphere of the restaurant was very nice, and the Japanese pepper that came with it was tangy and delicious. I'm a little dissatisfied with the quality, which is so expensive considering it's expensive, so I don't think I'll be repeating it.

I don't get many opportunities to eat steamed eel so I chose the bamboo steamed eel, and it was a great choice. However, it is a bit pricey. I'd like to visit again if I have the opportunity.

(Translated by Google) The atmosphere of the restaurant is very nice with quiet koto music playing 😊 Today, I bought a takeaway eel bowl ❣️ The sauce is not too sweet and has just the right taste 👍 The eel is, of course, very delicious 😊 However, if you can't park your car on the restaurant side, it might be difficult to cross the two-lane road... If you have an elderly person with you I think it's better to let them off at the restaurant side first and then go back to park the car 😊 (Original)
