I went to see the flower park but was happy to find out it has an amusement side, the array of food vendors,large gardens and various amusement rides made this a very pleasant experience. One huge park by the sea. I simply went to see the marvelous kochia hill, but it turned out the park has so much to offer. Absolutely great for families. Has lots of various activities, from a simple picnic, bike riding, and a mini theme park. Even just enjoying the beautiful vista is already joyful. It’s almost 2 hours from Tokyo Station by train and continued with a local bus from Katsuta Station (appr. 17 minutes). Plenty of food and beverages vendors inside, but be prepared for the lines during weekend/holidays.

One complaint is that all the paper tickets you need are inconvenient to hold on to and use. We held six different tickets while visiting the park. Perhaps if they combine all the tickets into one, everyone will benefit from this in the future. A small reminder, this place is near the ocean. That means there are strong winds so I would suggest that you bring a warm jacket with you.

Pretty awesome place to visit if you are in the area. This places provides lots of exhibits and there are so many animals that you can get up and close with. Dont miss the dolphine show and penguin feeding times! You can spend about 2.5 hrs here comfortably.

Great place for family and kids. The aquarium has a nice design. If you go there you have to see the dolphin show. The aquarium also has a view to the seashore which I like best. It is also located near the Oarai Jinja.

What a wonderful aquarium! My wife, my sister, and I went on a Monday about 2ish hours before closing and we were still able to catch a show before the aquarium closed for the day. We missed the tank petting time though but mostly because we didn't realize there was one. It's nestled between the upper floors near the children play area. We saw you could pet small sharks along with the normal sea life they offer. The aquarium is split between multiple floors and a sizeable outside portion with seals and penguins. Inside there's massive tanks with sharks, sunfish, and large salt-water sealife. The sharks are what I primarily looking forward to and it did not disappoint. They had some jellyfish but the tanks for them were lackluster. They had a few large crabs and other tidepool sealife available but the main attraction is the bigger fish and sharks. They also had a baby shark area that shows you how they take care of them. The show itself was very entertaining. The seal was incredibly smart and intuitive and a joy to watch. The dolphins and their trainers were phenomenal as well. I would say alott 2-3 hours for really seeing and learning about what's offered here. Maybe more if you're going to do all of the shows and petting part. Free parking and an expansion giftshop as well.

I’ve been to over 6 different aquariums with my (now 9 yr old son) and this tops the list. He’s really into sharks and they have a variety of different species to see.

Great to see some sea animals and we were able to watch the dolphin and seal show. You can spend at least 2-3 hours getting through everything. Love the souvenir options after the theatre show and exit. There’s also some food area near the souvenir shop. Great for kids to enjoy!

Haven't been back here since our 2 daughters were ages 12 and 6. Now our oldest daughter has made us a very proud grandparents to an adorable granddaughter,age 1 yr.and 2 months old. She is 1/4 American, and 3/4 Japanese. Her playroom group from Horikawa preschool/ kindergarten invited all the grandparents to attend, which I gladly accepted. So glad to see our granddaughter enjoy herself running here and there keeping her mommy busy,cause just isn't that fast anymore. Our 1st daughter enjoyed this wonderful place once again as in the past with her mom (me ). Great experience! The aquarium is clean and well built. So many areas with awesome fish and sea creatures. Note : There are special experience tour each day: Aquarium back tour, Meet with Dolphin, Meet with Seal, Talk with Dolphin, Meet with shark. These are limited in numbers each day during about lunch time. Be sure to check out if you are interested (you must buy the tickets at the entrance)

Nice beach to unwind. May get crowded during peak season. But due to corona, all parking is closed thus few people is present. Lots of live clams to dig and other sea creatures. Seagulls tend ti steal food on unattended belongings.

Great beach, nice sand, small waves, but be aware, the parking lots are very far from the sand and water’s edge. Its quite a walk with all your beach gear. I saw many people using collapsable wagons to get from their car to the beachfront.

Oarai Sun Beach is a beautiful, family-friendly beach with soft sand and shallow water—perfect for kids and beginners. It’s Japan’s first barrier-free beach, so wheelchair access and showers are very convenient. Lots of space for swimming, beach volleyball, and clam digging. Parking is huge, though it can get busy in summer. Close to Ōarai Aquarium and the seaside shrine, so it’s easy to make a full day out of it.

Huge, long beach that can hold thousands of people appropriately. The fireworks show on September is amazing, with large size and very organized crowds. However, the public transportation to here is not that convenient, so you better drive here.

Near to beach, people are coming for the waves. The campsite is next to a heavy traffic road, if u select the most convenient sites, trucks just run throughout the night above your camp. Toilets are clean with hot water supply

Great beach to enjoy with friends & Family. Parking & free bath place is just beside the sea beach. Parking is 1000 yen or 500 yen both are available. You can enjoy speed boat 🚤

White sand beach with clear seas. Went on a Friday during summer vacation 2021. The beach was technically closed(Covid-19 advisory) with no lifeguards and the beachfront snack stores and bars were closed. But there were a few persons and families present being socially distant. There was a nearby public washroom and shower area to refresh. Relatively calm and suitable for easy swimming.

Really enjoyed this beach, even though there was no swimming allowed because of a shark attack the day before at another beach in the area…and, a shark was sited. So the beach was not crowded. So we focused on relaxing, beachball playing, sand castle building and wading (knee deep only). Unfortunately barbecuing is NOT allowed. But there’s yakisoba, yakiniku, drinks and shaved ice 🍧 stands. Alert and kind lifeguards. Beautiful sandy beach. Not too trashy. Public toilets and shower available but very sandy & smelly. Parking close by. For a public beach, pretty good…will definitely go again. Maybe we can swim next time.

You can set up a tent on the beach. There are places to shower. There are parking lots with different prices(500-1000yen for a day). I don't have much experience to compare with other beaches but it was pretty good 👍

Went here for 2 days. During this time no one could freely swim. Apparently, their was a shark victim. Your basically left with sand and shore activities. I suggest another beach.

It's our second time here at Ajigaura Beach.. watching sunrise and enjoying the summer breeze... Parking is right in front of the beach. you can stay there as early as you can.parking is ¥1,000(8am-5pm) there are staffs collecting your parking fee... Wash area/toilet is near, and if you forget to bring food, don't worry, there are food stalls and cafes nearby.. water is deep, so be extra careful especially with kids.... Hope this helps. Enjoy!

Wasn't worth the time and ¥200. There was barely any "art" inside the tower. The observation deck had small round windows which were barely as big as a basketball. Looks like the shape of the tower is supposed to be the "art" but in daylight it just looked a bit rusty. Looked great in the nighttime pictures which they had in the lobby so do not go there during the day, I guess? Frankly I'd rather pour hot water and watch my cup noodles cook. Wouldn't recommend.

I took the 500 Yen tour that includes a tour of theater, concert hall and part of the gallery plus a complimentary coffee. Nice place but not jaw dropping. They were repairing the sound system and it was not a very photogenic sight. The tower looks best at night with the illumination but you can view that for free from outside. The tower is designed in the shape of a DNA and while impressive, there is nothing to do inside the tower.

Awesome old style theater, was fortunate enough to sit on the third floor. Looked like great seating all around. Went up into the art tower afterwards and enjoyed the view and unique architecture.

One of the best osens in Japan. You can see the sea from the osen. The water is salty and makes your skin feel so soft and smooth. There’s a wide variety of environments…indoor pools, outdoor pools, sunny, shaded, hot, warm and cold waters and it’s so relaxing and comfortable. Towels are available for a small fee if you don’t bring your own. Shampoo, conditioner and body soap is provided. All the staff (osen & restaurant) are friendly, helpful and professional ✨. The view in the restaurant is wonderful…you can see the sea while you’re eating. Food service and selection is great 👍🏽 and delicious. There’s free parking. And there’s the traditional milk vending machine for afterwards 😋I really enjoyed this osen…I even made a new friend (local lady)😄😃. The osen fee is reasonable for what you get. And with the wrist band scanning, you don’t need to carry money around. Highly recommend this osen if you’re in the area.

One of my favorite hot springs in Ibaraki. It is a great spot to go to after swimming in Ajigaura beach.

Visited during GW. Super crowded (Basically every restaurant is crowded) and had to wait for at least 30min. Eventually we took a table around 4pm. The quality and price are reasonable. Quite big portion and tasty. The mix Ikura and Uni (Salmon roe & Sea Urchin) rice bow cost 2300 yen. It almost impossible to have the same thing in Tokyo with this price.

Though forget to visit the villa, its worth the extra entrance fee. I would imagine the garden would look awesome during spring's cherry blossom season and even more during peak fall foliage season.

I went during the summer (late June). It was very green and nice. But I arrived too late to buy any souvenirs of plums. However, there are many mosquitoes and the "natural spring" has a unsightly metal pipe in the middle which makes it seem unnatural and out of place. Some elegant historical buildings and structures, and excellent views of the nearby lake. Convenient access along the provided paths, some of which are gravel. Even has a temporary train station located adjacent to the entrance, which is activated for special occasions.

As any other station in Japan, big or small, this one is clean and has everything you need. It's also connected with buses and other mode of transportation to your final destination. This is also the transit to Hitachi Seaside Park by bus (400¥ one way or 800¥ return).

The strawberry milkshake was not overly sweet yet it tasted very good, and all of the food was very visually pleasing. I was very skeptical at first when coming to this place because I have been to some other little cafés and restaurants that were not very good before.
