Bodh Gaya is one of Buddhism’s most important pilgrimage sites, revered as the place where Siddhartha Gautama attained enlightenment under the Bodhi Tree. At its heart is the Mahabodhi Temple complex, a UNESCO World Heritage Site with a striking brick temple and sacred Bodhi tree. The town is ringed by monasteries and temples built by Buddhist communities from around the world, creating a distinctly international yet spiritual atmosphere. Visitors also often use Bodh Gaya as a base to explore other historic Buddhist centers in the region, such as Rajgir and Nalanda.

The Mahabodhi Temple in Bodhgaya, also known as Buddha Gaya, holds great historical and religious significance as the place where Siddhartha Gautama attained Enlightenment under the sacred Mahabodhi Tree. The temple complex, dating back to the 3rd Century BC, is a major attraction for Buddhist pilgrims and tourists alike. The present Mahabodhi Tree is a descendant of the original tree taken to Sri Lanka in the 3rd Century BC.
Visiting the Mahabodhi Temple was one of the most amazing spiritual experiences of my life. The moment you enter the temple premises, you feel a deep sense of peace and positivity. The security here is extremely alert and well-organized, which gives a lot of comfort to visitors and allows you to focus completely on the spiritual experience rather than worrying about safety. The temple itself is breathtaking. The main structure is so beautifully designed that it reminded me of the traditional temples of Tamil Nadu and Kerala, grand, detailed, and full of intricate carvings. Inside, the statue of Lord Buddha is truly mesmerizing, sitting there for a while brings an indescribable sense of calm. One of the best things here is that there is hardly any crowd most of the time. You can visit the temple peacefully without the rush and chaos you usually find in other tourist places. With fewer people around, it feels more personal, quiet, and truly meditative. Another favorite part was the serene pond at the back of the temple. It’s so peaceful and perfect for quiet reflection. Walking around the complex, seeing monks from different countries meditating under the sacred Bodhi Tree, was a surreal experience, it felt like I was in a place beyond this world, like heaven itself.

“The place where Lord Buddha attained enlightenment at a very young age beneath a Sacred Fig tree is truly remarkable. I fully recommend all tourists to visit this place with their children so that they can learn about Buddha’s life. When you see it with your own eyes, the experience is far more powerful than just reading about it in history books or religious stories.” There is also a conservative type transport service that is called "tam tam " in local language but they charged farely . It is fully free service and there is place where you can keep your phone in safe locker for free .

Mahabodhi Temple – A Spiritual Journey to Enlightenment Visiting the Mahabodhi Temple in Bodh Gaya is like stepping into the heart of Buddhist history. As soon as you approach the temple complex, the serenity of the place envelops you. The main stupa, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, stands majestically at the center, radiating peace and spiritual energy. The temple is surrounded by lush gardens and pathways that are perfect for quiet reflection. Pilgrims from all over the world visit here to meditate, chant, and pay homage to the sacred Bodhi Tree, under which Lord Buddha attained enlightenment. The atmosphere is calm yet profoundly moving, giving visitors a sense of inner peace. Inside the temple, intricate carvings and sculptures depict the life of Buddha, offering a glimpse into ancient artistry and devotion. Photography is restricted in some areas, which preserves the sanctity of the place. The temple complex also houses several smaller shrines and meditation spots, making it ideal for both spiritual seekers and history enthusiasts. Visiting hours are convenient, and the temple is well-maintained, with facilities like rest areas and guides available for a deeper understanding of its history. Whether you are a devotee, a tourist, or someone seeking peace, Mahabodhi Temple promises a memorable and soul-refreshing experience. Tip: Arrive early in the morning to witness the morning prayers and enjoy the calm before the crowd arrives.

A visit to the Mahabodhi Temple is a serene, spiritual, and awe-inspiring experience, even with the crowds. Visitors describe the atmosphere as soulful and uplifting, with many people spending time meditating near the Bodhi tree or around the temple complex. It's best to go in the evening for the best lighting, and it is a place for quiet contemplation despite the surrounding hustle and bustle of the town.

Serene, spiritual place with an aura of Buddha. People from different countries have come to offer their prayers to great Buddha. Whole place is enriched by the feelings of Buddha. Bodhgaya Bodhi Tree is a significant site for Buddhists, believed to be a descendant of the original tree under which Buddha attained enlightenment. The area has been important to Buddhists since the formation of the Buddhist community. The current Bodhi tree outside the Mahabodhi temple is not the original, but a direct descendant. It has been replaced many times and is adorned with marigold flower strings during religious ceremonies.
I have just returned from a 12 day tour of Kerala and Tamil Nadu. I am extremely grateful to have Fen from BODHITREE INDIA TRAVELS for planning, preparing and customising our itinerary and making it the best one possible. We were a group of 4 Family members travelling together. We travelled from Cochin-Munnar-Madurai-Periyar-Allepey- Cochin. We arrived in Cochin not knowing what to expect, but was overwhelmed and surprised by the excellent choice of hotels selected for us by Fen. On arrival in Cochin, we received a warm welcome from Fen, even though it was very early in the morning and he stayed in contact with me throughout our stay there, ensuring our well being and comfort. A very special and heartfelt thanks goes out to our Driver Sajan. He really made our long journeys easy and comfortable with his smooth and safe driving. he was very cooperative in heeding to our needs and very knowledgeable about the local sightseeing and markets. he was professional and helpful to us all the way. Sajan became our translator, photographer and a friend all rolled into one and we were very sad to say goodbye to him on the last day.

**"A Sacred and Transformative Experience at the Bodhi Tree"** The Bodhi Tree in Bodh Gaya is an extraordinary place of spiritual significance and tranquility. Standing under the very tree where Lord Buddha attained enlightenment is a humbling and awe-inspiring experience. The atmosphere around the tree is serene, with devotees from around the world meditating, chanting, and offering prayers. The Maha Bodhi Temple nearby adds to the sanctity of the site. The energy of the place is truly special, and it’s a must-visit for anyone seeking peace, spirituality, or a deeper connection with history and culture. Be Happy Cafe is a casual and bohemian venue that offers an eclectic vegetarian menu, including freshly baked treats and pizzas. It provides a refreshing break from spicy Indian cuisine, with its comfortable ambiance and indoor as well as outdoor seating options. While some find the prices slightly higher, many appreciate the clean and breezy vibes along with the delicious food offerings such as pizza, spaghetti, and various cakes.
A HAPPY CAFE indeed. I had spaghetti with white sauce and mushroom, it was rich and creamy! The carrot cake was divine! The cafe has super good vibe and energy with efficient staffs. They are all very polite and hospitable. Talked to some of them you might even get some wisdom words like I got from Baiju. Many lovely spiritual book selections, very ideal place to be especially if you are solo traveler. It is somewhere you can enjoy yourself relaxing and starting the day. There is open air part on the roof top and ac seating downstairs. Must visit especially if you look for modern International cafe!

I like this cafe cause of the peaceful atmosphere and good food and drinks. Blueberry cheesecake was so good and jasmine green tea was refreshing. Hot chocolate was good but don't like it in cup and quantity was less. Enjoyable ❤️

It’s my 5th time in India and I am traveling since 4 month now again through India. But me and my Partner we never had such unpleasant situation. We had dinner at this café yesterday, which is on the more expensive side. I ordered a tomato and mozzarella salad – but what I received really wasn’t a salad: just one medium-sized tomato, sliced, with some mozzarella on top and basil. I politely asked if they could add a bit more tomato, since I had ordered a salad and not just a few slices of tomato with cheese. Instead of understanding, a rather unfriendly waiter came over and told us that his boss had instructed them to serve the dish exactly this way. While that may be their policy, I think a small gesture of goodwill — especially given the high price — wouldn’t hurt. To make things worse, we were then asked to pay immediately, which felt quite uncomfortable and abrupt, especially since we had just received our food. My partner even felt a pushed to finish and leave. It’s a pity, because the other waiter was very friendly and the hummus we ordered tasted authentic — just a bit small in portion for the price, too. Overall, I would have appreciated a bit more hospitality and flexibility. And this is in my eyes as someone coming from a service provider branch essential in this business. So for now it’s just an overpriced tourist place for me. And you can find not far really nice places where you can feel it, how much love they put in their coffee and cakes!

Food was really good. They basically serve American food. Price-wise it is little high but not much. The food was served quick i would say 👏

Great place close to main temple. Really clean and comfy, with welcoming staff. Busy too, which I was happy to see. I had hummus and veg dips/bread to start. Then spaghetti in white wine cream sauce, both really good. Sat and read my book for quite a while. There’s a roof terrace also, a group of 10 were up there eating and having a nice time

The only cafe provides decent coffees and breakfast in Bodhgaya. Hope they could improve their menu, and coffee bean in the future. Wifi is great, air conditioned available.
Erica Y — Google review
Really TERRIBLE experience. I’ve been in India for six months and I’ve never seen anything like this. They served a “tomato mozzarella salad” with literally half a tomato — yes, half. When we politely asked if they could add just a bit more, the answer was: “This is how we do it.” Unbelievable, same for the other plates, especially considering the outrageous price they charge. As if that wasn’t enough, the staff came directly in the middle of our dinner to ask us to pay immediately, before we even finished eating 😳. Totally unacceptable and extremely unprofessional. Avoid this place — it’s overpriced, disrespectful, and absolutely not worth it.

I recently visited Wat Thai Buddhagaya, a beautiful temple reflecting Thai culture through its intricate architecture and peaceful atmosphere. Nestled close to the Great Buddha Statue, the temple offers a calm space for meditation, but when I visited, there was ongoing construction work, which slightly affected the ambiance. The Metta Buddharam Temple, also known as the Silver Temple, is a stunning Thai temple located in Bodh Gaya. This magnificent structure features an outer shell made of stainless steel and adorned with decorative mosaic mirrors. One of its most striking features is the large white Buddha statue housed within a silver pagoda at the back of the temple. Unlike other temples in Bodh Gaya that use golden metallic colors, this temple stands out with its unique white metallic color scheme.
This temple is a peaceful place with beautiful architecture. The intricate designs and calm surroundings make it great for meditation or just spending some quiet time. Everything is clean and well-kept, creating a soothing atmosphere. It's a lovely spot to visit if you’re looking for some peace and positivity.

Perhaps the most beautiful monastery with the most exquisite detailings at present in Bodhgaya. The Metta Buddharam temple gives you a vibe like no other. The temple has a relatively newer architecture and thus stands apart from the rest of the monasteries in the town. We found the main temple closed and were told that it is yet to open to public. Hope to get inside this marvellous piece of architecture the next time!

The Metta Buddharam Temple in Gaya, Bihar, stands as a relatively new yet captivating addition to the sacred landscape of Bodh Gaya. Unlike the ancient Mahabodhi Temple with its profound historical roots, Metta Buddharam distinguishes itself with a striking modern architectural style, featuring an outer shell of stainless steel and intricate mosaic mirror work that shimmers in the sunlight. This unique design gives it a distinctly contemporary feel, setting it apart from many traditional Buddhist temples in the region. Upon entering, visitors are often struck by the serene and impeccably maintained surroundings. The temple offers a tranquil atmosphere, ideal for meditation and contemplation, a much-needed respite in the often bustling pilgrimage town. The main temple floor, crafted from wood, leads to a marble-floored meditation room beneath, providing a cool and peaceful environment for devotees. The interior is adorned with numerous handmade sculptures, crafted from a mixture of white cement, clay, and epoxy, adding to its artistic appeal. While it may not possess the ancient mystique of other Bodh Gaya sites, Metta Buddharam is a testament to modern Buddhist architectural principles and serves as a vital center for practice and study. It offers a space for both local and international followers to connect with their faith, engage in meditation, and learn about Buddhist teachings. The temple is particularly mesmerizing when beautifully lit at night, creating a truly unforgettable spectacle. Although some areas might have restricted access or be under construction, the overall experience of peace, unique architecture, and spiritual solace makes Metta Buddharam Temple a highly recommended visit for anyone exploring Bodh Gaya.

Inaugurated in 1989, the 25-meter-tall Buddha statue located near the Mahabohdi Temple is a major attraction for Buddhist pilgrims. The statue depicts Buddha seated in dhyana mudra on a lotus and is flanked by ten statues of his great disciples. Erected outdoors, this awe-inspiring statue stands at an impressive height of 19.5 meters and was complemented by the installation of ten additional standing statues in 1996.
Visiting The Great Buddha Statue in Gaya was truly impressive. The massive statue stands peacefully in the middle of a green and calm environment, giving a deep sense of peace and spirituality. The place is well-maintained and perfect for photography or just relaxing in a quiet atmosphere. Unlike many tourist spots, it was not overcrowded when I visited, so I could easily enjoy the whole area without much disturbance. The pathways are good, but some parts could be improved for better accessibility, especially for wheelchairs. This site is definitely a must-visit when traveling to Gaya.

Standing about 25 meters (≈80 ft) tall, it shows the Buddha in meditation pose (Dhyana Mudra) seated on a lotus. The construction uses red granite and sandstone, and the craftsmanship is impressive…!

The Great Buddha statue at Bodh Gaya stands as a magnificent testament to India’s spiritual and artistic heritage. Towering over the sacred landscape where Gautama Buddha attained enlightenment, it reflects the enduring legacy of Buddhist architecture and devotion. Crafted from sandstone and red granite, the statue’s serene expression captures the essence of calm reflection central to the Buddha’s teachings. Morning sunlight accentuates its fine detailing, highlighting the craftsmanship of those who built it as a symbol of peace and learning. Visiting this monument is not merely a visual experience, but a journey through history — to the heart of one of the world’s cultural and philosophical traditions.

*5.0 out of 5 stars* A Spiritual Oasis in Bodh Gaya I'm still under the spell of the Great Buddha Statue in Bodh Gaya! This magnificent 80-foot-tall statue is a must-visit for anyone seeking peace and enlightenment. The serene atmosphere, the intricate carvings, and the stunning architecture will leave you breathless. The statue, made of red granite and sandstone, depicts Lord Buddha in a meditative pose, surrounded by 10 smaller statues of his disciples. The attention to detail is remarkable, and the peaceful ambiance is palpable. I was impressed by the statue's sheer size and grandeur. The hollow interior contains 20,000 bronze Buddha images, and the spiral staircase leading to the chest offers a unique perspective. *Tips for Visitors:* - Visit early morning or late afternoon to avoid the heat and crowds. - Take time to appreciate the intricate carvings and architecture. - Don't miss the 10 smaller statues of Buddha's disciples. *Highly Recommended:* If you're in Bodh Gaya, don't miss the Great Buddha Statue. It's a spiritual oasis that will leave you feeling peaceful and inspired.

The Buddha Smriti Museum (Buddha Smriti Park) in Patna is one of the most peaceful and spiritually enriching places in Bihar. Built in memory of Lord Buddha, this museum and park beautifully capture the essence of Buddhism and its deep connection with Bihar — the land where Buddha attained enlightenment. Located right in the heart of the city near Patna Junction, it’s easy to reach and offers a calm retreat from the busy streets outside. The centerpiece of the park is the magnificent Pataliputra Karuna Stupa, which houses sacred relics of Lord Buddha brought from different Buddhist countries. The architecture is stunning — modern yet deeply symbolic, with clean lines and a serene ambiance that invites silence and reflection. Inside, the museum features fascinating exhibits, sculptures, and interactive displays that depict Buddha’s life journey and teachings. The audio-visual presentations are very informative and make the experience even more engaging. The place is immaculately maintained, with beautiful gardens, meditation halls, and pathways lined with greenery. The atmosphere feels truly divine, especially in the evening when the entire complex lights up softly, creating a magical and meditative environment. If you’re visiting Patna, this is a must-see destination — not just for Buddhists but for anyone seeking peace, knowledge, or inspiration. The Buddha Smriti Museum perfectly blends spirituality, history, and modern design, making it one of the finest attractions in the city. 🌸🕊️

The Great Buddha Statue in Bodh Gaya, Bihar, is a truly awe-inspiring sight and a must-visit for its majestic scale and deep spiritual significance. Standing approximately 80 feet tall, this magnificent figure is one of the largest Buddha statues in India, depicting the Lord in a profound meditation pose (Dhyana Mudra). Constructed from a beautiful mix of sandstone and red granite, the statue exudes a powerful sense of peace and serenity. It is located in a well-maintained garden near the Daijokyo Buddhist Temple, providing a calm and meditative environment that perfectly complements the surrounding pilgrimage sites of Bodh Gaya. The sheer height and presence of the Buddha, seated upon a giant lotus, draw visitors from around the globe seeking a moment of contemplation and inspiration.

Nestled near the iconic Bodhgaya Mahabodhi Temple, Fujiya Green Restaurant is a bustling spot that draws in both locals and tourists alike. On my visit after attending a teaching by His Holiness Dalai Lama, I found the place packed to the brim with eager diners. The outdoor seating offered a refreshing escape, while inside, the warm atmosphere made it easy to relax despite the crowd.
We ordered Hot & Sour Chicken Soup, Mutton momos (steamed & fried), Mix chow ein, and chilli chicken. Everything was delicious and was worth the money and it all costed us ₹1000 including dal tadka and roti and paneer pakoda.

I have been to this location almost every other day I have stayed in Bodhgaya for 3 weeks. There is a wide selection of food, prices are good and portions are large which is making many plates easily sharable. Staff is friendly and service is good. Downside is that there are no washrooms but still worth the visit.

South Indian restaurant
Tirupati Veg Restaurant, an established eatery in Bodhgaya, stands out for its extensive variety of vegetarian dishes. It exclusively offers South Indian cuisine, ensuring authenticity and consistent flavors. Additionally, the restaurant caters to different palates by serving paneer items and mushrooms apart from traditional South Indian fare. With budget-friendly prices and a location near the Thai Temple in Arya Complex, Tirupati Veg Restaurant provides patrons with an array of choices without compromising on quality.
Tirupati South Cafe serves good and tasty food with nice flavors. The only drawback is that the place is small and cannot accommodate many people at once.
Dr P — Google review
I recently visited Tirupati South Café in Bodh Gaya and had a mixed experience. While the food's taste was above average, the delays in service were disappointing. We had to wait longer than expected for our orders, which slightly dampened the dining experience. That said, the staff was courteous, and the service quality itself was good once the food arrived. The ambiance of the café was pleasant and welcoming, making it a comfortable place to spend time. However, the pricing seemed steep compared to the overall experience and the quality of the dishes. For the amount charged, I expected a smoother and more efficient service. Overall, it’s a decent place to try if you are craving South Indian food in Bodh Gaya, but the management needs to work on minimizing wait times and reevaluating the pricing to make it a better value for customers.

Water & Amusement Parks
Seth’s Chama Cham Water Park in Gaya is a fun and refreshing spot, perfect for a day out with family and friends, especially during the hot summer months. The water rides are enjoyable, with a good variety for both kids and adults. The wave pool and rain dance area were definite highlights — energetic, lively, and a lot of fun! The park is decently maintained, though a few areas could use better cleanliness and more frequent supervision, especially near changing rooms and rest areas. The staff was helpful and managed the crowd well, ensuring safety at the major rides. Food options inside the park are limited but reasonably priced. It’s best to plan your visit early in the day to avoid large crowds, especially on weekends and holidays. Ticket prices are affordable, making it a good value for the fun and excitement offered. Overall, Seth’s Chama Cham Water Park is a great place to beat the heat and create happy memories. With a little more attention to maintenance, it could become an even better destination for locals and tourists alike.

Located in Nema, few kilometre from Bodhgaya. Plenty of parking outside and big entrance. One can get tickets after getting inside and price is 500 per person. Along with that locker and costume fee is chargeable having a refund when you return the costume. Enough number of lockers and changing rooms. A number of options are available to enjoy including slides, rain dance, wave pool and others. Water is clean but a huge amount of chlorine and bleaching is used. Fooding option is also available which seems not much high priced. Washrooms are also available here. Plenty number of staffs available for maintenance and helping the people. Doctor is also available with first aid options. Couples and family will not face any issue after visiting here.

Seth’s Chhama Chham Water Park in Gaya is definitely a must visit place for people of all age groups. The water park is very well maintained and water is clean. Tickets are also quite reasonably priced. You can take swimming costume on rent and locker facility is also available. The wave pool and rain dance area are a must visit. Only area of improvement is the hygiene and cleanliness of the changing rooms. One coming to Gaya must include this water park in your itinerary.

Had a fantastic time at Seth’s Chhama Cham Water Park in Bodhgaya! It’s a complete entertainment package with water rides, fun zones, and more. The environment is lively, clean, and full of energy—perfect for families, friends, or even a solo day of fun. Highlights: Thrilling Water Slides: The rides are super exciting, with a mix of high-speed slides and splash zones to suit all ages. One of the most exciting attractions is the big cone ride! You and a friend slide together on a tube through a dark, closed pipe which suddenly opens into a huge cone-shaped structure. The swinging motion inside the cone adds an extra thrill and makes it one of the most unforgettable rides in the park! Fun Environment: Music, dancing zones, and a happy crowd keep the vibe upbeat all day long. Horror House & Eyelusion Room: Apart from water fun, there’s also a Horror House and a unique illusional experience called "Eyelusion". The Horror House wasn’t that scary, but it was a fun experience nonetheless. The Eyelusion room is unique and great for clicking quirky and mind-bending photos. Food Stalls Available: Plenty of food options inside, including snacks, cold drinks, and full meals. Everything is reasonably priced and hygienically served. Entry Charges: Adults: ₹500 Children (up to 4 feet): ₹300 Add-ons for Horror House and Eyelusion Room: Additional charges apply, depending on the combo offer or deal available at the time of visit. Overall, it’s a perfect getaway spot in Bodhgaya—fun, thrilling, and memorable. Totally recommend it!

Place is nice but have found some drawbacks : 1) The maximum 5 star ratings are fake, don't believe on that. The staff or security person manually marked 5 star ratings by giving you a chocolate (as a bribe 😁) , take your phone and will mark 5 star by own. 2) no water or food is allowed inside the park ( from outside) , so If you will carry, avoid it or finish them before entering into the park 3) food cafe is drastically poor, I will personally not mark more than 2 or 3 star, because first there is no management, poor staff. You have to wait long for ur order and even taste of food is not well, with this there are no fans or ACs rooms available to enjoy your lunch with ur family...

The Archaeological Museum Bodhgaya, located near the Mahabodhi Temple in Bihar, is a fascinating destination for history enthusiasts. Established in 1956, this museum boasts a remarkable collection of ancient artifacts and sculptures that offer insight into the rich cultural heritage of the region. Visitors can marvel at rare antiquities such as terracotta items, stone sculptures dating back to the 1st century, and precious metal idols depicting Hindu deities.
There should be some strips or barricades around the placed items. People used to touch them and scratch. There is very basic ticket is required which nearly cost I think 10 or 20 rupees only . It is very beautiful which have a lot of Buddha's statues of 9 century. One should must visit. The place is full of AC ventilated, I really like the place.

Review of Archaeological Museum, Bodh Gaya (500 words) The Archaeological Museum in Bodh Gaya, Bihar, is a treasure trove of ancient Indian art, history, and culture. Situated near the world-famous Mahabodhi Temple, this museum offers a captivating glimpse into the rich Buddhist heritage of India and the glorious past of the Magadh region. Established in 1956 by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), the museum houses an exceptional collection of relics, sculptures, and artifacts dating from the 1st century BCE to the 11th century CE. The museum is relatively modest in size but dense with historical significance. It has two main galleries and an open courtyard, all of which are well-maintained and thoughtfully organized. The collection is dominated by Buddhist artifacts, which is fitting considering Bodh Gaya's status as the site where Siddhartha Gautama attained enlightenment under the Bodhi Tree. The museum also includes Hindu sculptures and secular relics, showing the cultural fusion of ancient India. Among the highlights are stone and bronze sculptures of Buddha in various mudras (hand gestures), such as the Bhumisparsha mudra, Dhyana mudra, and Abhaya mudra. These statues reflect the exquisite craftsmanship of the Gupta and Pala periods. One of the most striking pieces is a sandstone statue of a seated Buddha that reflects serenity and spiritual power. The level of detail, especially in the facial expressions and postures, is impressive. There are also terracotta plaques, coins, inscriptions, and miniature railings from the original Mahabodhi Stupa. These artifacts provide valuable insight into the religious and daily life of ancient Indian civilization. The museum also displays Yaksha and Yakshini figures, votive stupas, and relic caskets, further adding to the diversity of its collection. The inscriptions, some of which are in Brahmi and Pali, are crucial for understanding early Buddhist texts and teachings. These have been well-preserved and are displayed with appropriate context. There are also informative panels and labels in both English and Hindi, making it easier for visitors to understand the significance of each artifact. The museum staff is courteous, and the premises are clean and quiet—perfect for anyone who wants to explore history in peace. Photography is generally restricted inside the museum, but the open courtyard offers opportunities to click pictures of some of the larger sculptures. Though not very large or modernized compared to other national museums, the Archaeological Museum in Bodh Gaya is a must-visit for history buffs, archaeology enthusiasts, and spiritual seekers. It complements the experience of visiting the Mahabodhi Temple and deepens one’s understanding of Buddhist art and Indian heritage. Verdict: The Archaeological Museum in Bodh Gaya is a hidden gem that offers a deep, enriching experience of India’s ancient history, particularly its Buddhist past. Despite its small scale, it holds immense educational and spiritual value. A visit here is both informative and meditative—highly recommended for students, travelers, and anyone interested in India's cultural roots.

This small museum may be compact, but it holds a rich collection that reflects local history and culture. The exhibits are neatly arranged, and the atmosphere feels inviting. While it lacks the grandeur of bigger museums, its charm lies in simplicity and close interaction with heritage

It's a good place to visit for History students. It has 8th to 10th century idols of Budhha Shiva and many more idols related to Buddhism. Free for the age of 16 Years apart from that it's ticket fee is ₹10 It will take 30 to 45 minutes to see all around the museum.

Park
Jai Prakash Udhyan, located in Bodhgaya, is a well-maintained park at the heart of the city. The park boasts a variety of flora including plants, flowers, and grass, as well as a charming butterfly zone where visitors can admire colorful butterflies. Additionally, there is a delightful rose garden and well-kept seating areas for visitors to relax and immerse themselves in nature. The park's efficient management ensures that everything is properly organized for visitors' enjoyment.
Great if you have some time to kill. I had a few hours to spare and was dead tired so didn't want to roam around. Bought the ticket for 20 bucks only. The park has free drinking water, two clean toilets, and plenty of space to sit or lie around. I fell asleep for a few hours under a banyan tree. Highly recommended.

Nothing great about this in spring no flower nor any butterfly is visible.

Adjacent to the main temple complex is this wonderful park with abundance of trees and plants. Rs 20 entry fees is needless since the playground is with damaged equipment and everything is naturally occurring. Walk path is along the perimeter exists. Butterfly 🦋 park is enlightening. Nice garden for calming down. A bit of maintenance would improve the park a lot.

We bought the butterfly release ticket, and it was such an amazing experience! We learned so much about the butterflies, the guides had great knowledge about them. Also what they doing in the park, making this diverse environment, and saving these butterflies is wonderful. Highly recommended 😊

It is a big park situated in Centre of Bodhgaya and adjacent to Mahabodhi temple. As per board placed on entry point of the park it is named as "Jay Prakash Udhyan,Bodhgaya.Park is charging entry fee as per height of the visitor. It is presently maintained better than its earlier period.but still it require some attention of the concerned department responsible for its maintenance. As per notice park has two toilets but one toilet (both for gents and ladies)is locked and another toilet is in very pitiable condition.park should maintain toilets because many visitors including children's come to the park and may need toilet/urinal. Park is providing good place for sitting to young couples. You can enjoy good time at there by spending Rs 20 only .The place is clean and safe Tall plants are also supportive to visitors for passing some alone time.

Jay Prakash Udhyan is situated in Bodhgaya. It is in the center of Bodhgaya. There are different types of plants, flowers and grass in this park. There is a beautiful butterfly zone where you can see colorful butterflies. There is also a rose garden. There are seating areas where you can sit and spend your time with nature or with your near or dear one. This park has great management. Here everything is properly managed. There is an entry fee of ₹10 for every visitor. There are lots of shops, cafeteria, and restaurants outside this park where you can buy or have your desired things. It is just behind the Mahabodhi temple. You can reach here from all corners of the Gaya. It is around 16 km from Gaya Railway Station, around 8 km from Gaya Airport, 10-12 km from the government bus stand, and around 8-10 km from Bypass. If you take an auto, it will charge you ₹30-50 depending on your location. If you're planning to explore Bodhgaya, then you must visit this park.

I have frequented Jyoti Guest House & Baba Restaurant on numerous occasions. The establishment boasts a commendable proprietor and attentive staff. Its convenient location near the Mahabodhi temple is an added advantage, with several shopping establishments in close proximity. Moreover, one can conveniently purchase train or air tickets nearby. The restaurant also benefits from its adjacency to a spacious park, offering guests the opportunity to take a leisurely stroll or enjoy quality time with loved ones after their meal.

Was an average place. But a good option for those who want a stay near mahabodhi temple (50-100 metres away) and rest all attractions nearby are walkable . Restaurant service was very late. Food taste is good. Ask them to put less ghee/oil as it comes loaded. Staff is very generous and prompt .

Very good resturant. Foods are authentic and healthy but quantity is minimum. Tables are neat and clean. Staffs are well behaved. Situated near the famous Mahabodhi temple on a busy place. Views are nice. No wheelchair accessible parking or entrance. Usually you have to wait here for your food to serve. Overall it's a good place to dining with family and friends.

First of all its a little bit dirty place. The price is very high as compare to quality and quantity. I had the mushroom masala and two butter naan and one water bottle. The total cost is 190+70+25=285 which is very high even the mushroom masala is not up to the marked. I recommend if you love to have a simple veg dish go to the buffet of Rs 100 nearby mahabodhi Temple at hotel jeevak international and sakya restaurants.

During my initial visit to Gautam Lassi Corner & Restaurant, I was pleasantly surprised by the delectable food they served. The array of dishes offered were incredibly tempting and appealing, leaving me thrilled and eager to return. The chicken kadai, murgmuslm, and chiken do pyaza with butter nun were particularly sizzling and delicious. Accompanied by jeera rice and lakcha paratha, this meal became an absolute delight for my taste buds.
Very refreshing and tasty lassi, recommend sweet and rose lassi. Kind owner and attentive staff. Food is hot and fresh. We enjoyed the momos, curries, chicken fried, naan. Very good value. One of my favorite restaurants in Bodh Gaya. Thank you for delicious meals.

Terrible Experience please Avoid This Place recently visited this restaurant in Bodhgaya and it was an awful experience ordered noodles only to find a mosquito in my food When I informed the owner instead of apologizing he rudely dismissed my concern and said, "It’s only a mosquito, you can eat it, it's normal!" The service was extremely impolite, and the attitude was completely unacceptable. I would definitely not recommend this place to anyone. Hygiene and customer service should never be taken lightly, but clearly, they don’t care. Avoid this restaurant at all costs!

Visited Bodh Gaya few weeks back but due to current Covid Situation most of the public places were closed. Most of the famous food places which we had in mind were also closed. However , we went to Gautam Lassi Corner and Restaurant because obviously we've to try something. The place isn't that big and will give you a vibe of Highway-side dhaba. They've kept the place quite clean. We tried their Septa Momos (Rs.120) , Egg Thukpa (Rs.90) , Veg Steamed Momos (Rs.70) and Paneer Spring Roll (Rs.130). Momos and Paneer Spring Roll were totally out outstanding. The stuffing of the spring roll was damn amazing. Septa Momos were new to us and we'll definitely give them double thumbs-up. Meanwhile , Egg Thukpa was below average. The taste was very subtle and quite boring.

Nestled near Bodhgaya in Bihar, India, the Root Institute for Wisdom Culture is a serene retreat offering basic accommodations and a range of courses on Tibetan Buddhism, meditation, and yoga. The institute's proximity to the Mahabodhi Stupa makes it an ideal place for contemplation and spiritual practice. Despite not participating in Buddhist courses, visitors found solace in the tranquil environment and appreciated the opportunity to meditate.
Very beautiful place! ✨ Meeting intellectuals and discussing different views on life is truly making a difference. I really appreciate it. 🙏

Root institute is a Tibetan Buddhist centre that offers a place to stay, retreat, study, and participate in buddhist courses. There are a great number of residence buildings on the property for accommodation. Accommodation types available include multi-bed dormitory, triple room, double room, single room with common washroom, or single room with private washroom. Three vegetarian meals are included that are served in the canteen at 7:30AM, 12PM, and 6:30PM. In February (high season), I booked a single room with a common washroom for 1000 rupees a night. If you stay a month or longer, you can apply a 25% discount. During the winter season, there are teachers and lamas who come in and either host a week course or give a dhamma teaching during the day. There are also several drop-in events/pujas scheduled here every so often. It appears that anyone is welcome to come and participate in these drop-ins, even some where traditionally I think people would need to have received some initiation first. It appears that isn't important here. Interesting to note that Root Institute's spiritual guide, Lama Thubten Zopa Rinpoche passed away in 2023, and since has been without any direct successor. In February it was a bit noisy here at night. This is because there are some venues neighboring areas that appear to host some big events and sometimes play loud music throughout the night. I recommend earplugs for sleeping. Bodhgaya is not specifically the best place to have a quiet environment for meditation though. It is more of a pilgrimage town. Even the lama who recently came to give a teaching here said he doesn't recommend Bodhgaya for finding peace and seclusion. That said, it is still fairly peaceful within the two gompas (tibetan temple) here for meditation during the day.

My stay allowed me time to visit friends get some dental work completed in Gaya and some much needed Ayurvedic care less than a 5 minute walk from my cabin. Indosan Nipponji Temple, established in 1963, is a Japanese Buddhist temple located in Bodh Gaya. The temple was built to promote and spread Buddhism in India and features pagoda-like architecture that reflects Japanese culture and tradition. The wooden structure resembles a typical Japanese shrine and houses various Japanese-style paintings depicting significant events from the life of Buddha. Additionally, the temple includes an idol of Lord Buddha worshipped by monks and devotees daily.

The surroundings are calm, making it a perfect place to relax and reflect. One important thing that stood out was the lack of proper wheelchair accessibility, which I hope will improve in the future.

A serene and quite temple, the decor of which provides a archetypical example of Japanese temple construction (at least as I understand it). Please note that as of February 2023 the daily chanting and meditation sits are no longer happening, which is unsurprising in this late/post-pandemic period. Nonetheless, it seems that you are still free to come and do your own meditation sits if you want. It showcases Japanese paintings that depict important events of Buddha's life. Peaceful atmosphere and well-maintained.

One of the best temples of Bodh Gaya built by wood. Its made according to Japanese architecture .
PARTHA B — Google review
The road is rather dusty as it seems there’s some construction going on. Although same can be said for most of Bodhgaya. The temple holds true to its Japanese architecture. However, it’s not as well maintained as the Bhutanese temple nearby. There’s a large stupa and bell as well as a small playground. The playground is meant for the kindergarteners schooling in the compound.

Chinese Temple, also known as the Mahabodhi Chinese Temple, is a stunning Buddhist monastery located near the Mahabodhi Temple in Bodh Gaya. Built in the traditional Chinese pagoda style, this ornate and well-maintained complex exudes a serene ambiance that attracts visitors seeking tranquility and spiritual connection. The temple features beautiful statues of Gautam Buddha and Kshitigarbha Bodhisatva, with informative plaques explaining their significance.
Visited the Chinese Temple in Bodh Gaya, and it was such a calm and peaceful place. The traditional Chinese architecture with dragon carvings and bright red colors instantly caught my eye. Inside, the Buddha statue looked so graceful, and the atmosphere was perfect for meditation. The best part was that there weren’t many people around, so I could take my time exploring and sitting quietly. It felt like a hidden gem in Bodh Gaya, away from the usual crowded spots.

Buddhist temple
Tergar Monastery is a stunning Buddhist temple with an intricately adorned exterior, grand prayer halls, and sacred shrines. Located in Bodh Gaya, it stands out for its depictions of Bhutanese royalty and the revered Zhabdrung. The monastery offers a serene atmosphere for meditation and quiet contemplation, drawing visitors from around the world. Inside, the hall is adorned with images of Buddha in a tranquil setting conducive to religious study and discussion.
Mingyur Rinpoche completed the construction of this monastery in 2007 A very active tibetan temple. In 2007, I see hundreds of monks and novices going about their day outside. Around 3:00P.M. they were all called inside for puja. Tuesday morning around 9:30 A.M : All the nuns were chanting inside the gompa.
David M — Google review
I am very lucky to decide to visit the monastery at the time I did. The temple is 10 mins walk from my hotel, I would regret if I didn't come. The entrance is on the side, not on the main front gate. I arrived around 8 am, they were having chanting ritual in the main hall with many young monks. Very blessed to witness the hall when it is fully lit during ritual. The light is turned off when there is no monk inside. So best time to visit if you want to see the monk students and temple when it feels alive is from 8-8:30 am and 4-5 pm (the monk said at this time you can witness longer chanting with more music instrument than the morning ritual) It wan special to witness the prayer and the music as I've never been to Tibetan temple before. It was also a joy to see many young monks as young as 6 years old on their monk school break. There is a small mini shop behind the main hall. I had conversation with 2 Nepalese monks about Tibetan monastery culture. I have learned a lot during almost 2 hours conversation. It was a true pleasure to start my day here. Best decision! If you come, take time to talk to the monks, you will learn a lot more. 🙏🏻 Namaste from Thailand

This monastery is located in Bihar, India. It's specially based on a Mahayana traditional. The Dalai Lama and some other famous monks visit and stay in this monastery when they come to pay homage to Bodhgaya. It's a big monastery and peaceful environment around.

Beautiful and well maintained place. The entire Bodh Gaya is dedicated to Buddha and the area is peaceful and all temples are nearby each other. This one in specific is well maintained and beautifully decorated.

Beautiful monestry belongs to Bhutan, I think. Cool place and a religious study place for Buddhists. Anyone can go inside. The inner hall is nicely decorated with Budha is siting in Dyana mudra. Many siting tables are arranged for religious study and discussion.

Tergar Monastery was hosting Kenting Tai Siti Rinpoche. Also during the tome of the 38e Kagyu Mönlam. What a beautiful event concluded by the Marme Mönlam.
Pim W — Google review
Started in 99/2000 finished 2006, is primarily a school for kids from the Himalayan region's up to grade 6, about 100 or so students. In the Lineage of H.H the Karmapa & Venerable Mingyur Rinpoche. I saw one night some of the novices during meditation, and it was not a a great example of self control, needless to say the Head of the Lineage Karmapa himself is embroiled in a scandal also.

Siam Thai Restaurant is a delightful culinary destination that transports you straight to the heart of Thailand with its authentic flavors and aromatic dishes. While it may not replicate every nuance of dining in Southeast Asia, the restaurant offers an impressive array of freshly prepared meals that are sure to please your palate. The courteous staff ensures quick service, making your dining experience enjoyable from start to finish. If you're exploring Bodhgaya, this hidden gem is a must-visit for anyone craving genuine Thai cuisine.
I went to this restaurant and had Veg Thupka and Phad Si-Yu. The staff and the owner here are polite and the food taste is delicious. I would like to give a special recommendation for a staff named Dev Kumar Yadav, as i had cough and cold and he just overheard it while taking orders and went out of bounds to prepare a Tibetan medicine for me.
Vanshaj R — Google review
Lovely Thai food in Bodh Gaya! Probably as close to Thai food as you'll get here. I had sweet and sour veggies, green veggies and curry (can't remember exactly). It was quiet on the days I went but the food was fabulous.
Lisa L — Google review
This Thai restaurant delivers authentic flavors with a perfect balance of spice and aroma. The menu offers a wide variety, from rich curries to refreshing salads. The ambience is warm and welcoming, decorated with subtle Thai touches that enhance the dining experience. Staff are attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable about the menu, always ready to suggest the best combinations. Portions are generous and reasonably priced, making it a great choice for both casual meals and special dinners. Highly recommended for food enthusiasts.

The best ever Thai food! It was just so yumm! Loved the vibe and the food. Personal recommendation - do try the Tom Yum Rice and noodles!
Asmita M — Google review
Decent place albeit a bit pricey. Food variety is great. Preparations are typically Indian with lots of oil and fried eats. Menu is oriented towards non vegetarian. Great for team to serve meals in half and full portions and vary prices accordingly. Options for vegetarian, Chicken, Fish preparations cater for varied taste of customers.

The room service is great .The hotel staff including the owners are very friendly and respectful. The price is also reasonable .If we talk about the food do try their special handi biryani. Looking forward to stay and dine in this amazing place again.

You will find tasty dishes that please your taste buds. The servings are large enough to make you feel full, and the prices are very affordable. The friendly atmosphere makes it a great place for any meal, ensuring each visit is special.
Al B — Google review
This review is only about the restaurant, not the hotel. Still trying to wrap my head around the ratings for this place. The food honestly doesn’t match the hype. Both the Mixed Veg and Handi Biryani were overly spicy—not inedible, but just about okay. The service was polite. the starter came after the main course, which was odd. Prices are reasonable, but overall, the experience was a letdown.
Sumit K — Google review
It is a great restaurant, but the new manager lacks responsibility. The service is not good at all. Perhaps using his mobile is more important to him than the service. Hotel owner, kindly pay attention.

I think this is the only place that serves Handi Biryani in the whole Bodhgaya ! It's tasty and plentiful ! The restaurant serves chicken, mutton and mushroom biryani ! Those who love biryani should not miss its taste here ! Bon appetite !

Today's lunch was very good, freshly prepared and tasty. We did ask during lunch if food customisation can be done as we east non spicy / masala food. The person confirmed it can be done. We went for dinner ordered Alu Gobi (asked for non spicy/ masala) and mixed veg raita along with tawa roti. Alu Gobi was full of garam masala and pepper, raita was made with sweet curd and tawa roti was of maida. We informed the person at the counter during bill and the initial response was silence and after almost 10 mins he offered Rs.40 discount instead of understanding the issue. It was not for his 40 rupees discount but spoiling our food and taste. No consistency of food quality and customer service.
