Kalimpong in 1 day

If you only have 1 day to spend in Kalimpong, we’ve narrowed down the top places you should check out to get the best experience of your time here.
Kalimpong offers sweeping views of the eastern Himalayas, including distant sights of Kanchenjunga on clear days, from hilltop viewpoints and quiet ridges. The town is known for its Buddhist monasteries, historic missionary schools, and colonial-era churches that reflect a mix of Lepcha, Nepali, and British influences. Visitors also come for its cool climate, flower nurseries famous for orchids and cacti, and nearby nature trails and river valleys suited to gentle hikes and rafting on the Teesta. Its slower pace and smaller scale make it a quieter alternative to busier hill stations like Darjeeling.
With favorites like Pizza Pan, Delo Park, and Kalimpong Science Centre, we’ll make sure you don’t miss out on all the must sees. We even included some of our favorite food spots around the area, like King Thai Hotel And Restaurant (SUPER MARKET) and Aam's Courtyard so you can get the best taste of Kalimpong while you’re here. To see our full list of food recommendations, check out our best restaurants post. If you're traveling on a budget, you can check out our cheap eats post.

Delo Park, perched atop the stunning Delo Hill at an elevation of 1,704 meters, is a must-visit destination in Kalimpong. This picturesque park offers breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains and the serene River Teesta. As you wander through its beautifully landscaped gardens adorned with vibrant flowering plants and shrubs, you'll find plenty of picnic spots to relax and soak in nature's beauty.
Delo Park in the rainy season feels like stepping into a misty paradise. The clouds float so close you can almost touch them, and the lush greenery glistens after every shower. The cool breeze, soft drizzle, and panoramic mountain views make it perfect for nature lovers and photographers. Carry a raincoat or umbrella, and enjoy the magical monsoon vibes!

Delo Park is a lovely spot to spend some peaceful time amidst nature. The park offers several scenic viewpoints that provide breathtaking views of the surrounding hills and landscapes. A small entry fee is required, which is quite reasonable for the experience it offers. Horse rides are available inside the park, which is a fun activity, especially for kids. It's also great to see that the park maintains an eco-friendly approach by not allowing plastic inside. However, the park could benefit from better maintenance in certain areas to enhance the overall visitor experience. With a little more care, it has the potential to be an even more beautiful and well-kept destination.

Tucked in the heart of Kalimpong, about 70 km from Darjeeling, the Kalimpong Science Centre is a must-visit, especially for families with school-going kids. This place is a perfect mix of education and entertainment, and it makes science not just easy to understand, but also exciting to explore. The moment the entrance is crossed, one is greeted by busts of some of India’s greatest scientists, each with a detailed plaque explaining their contributions to science and the awards they’ve received on a global scale. Names like Homi Bhabha, C.V. Raman, S. Ramanujan, and Vikram Sarabhai all stand tall, inspiring young minds before the learning even begins. Inside, the centre offers a world of interactive fun. From the front desk, tickets for a 3D show can also be booked for just ₹50 extra per person — a short film experience that adds more spark to the visit. Beyond that, the main museum is filled with hands-on science experiments that turn difficult concepts into simple fun. There’s the fascinating infinity well that seems to go on forever, holographic pyramids that project floating images, and plenty of buttons, levers, and mirrors that make every exhibit feel like a game with a lesson. Each section in the museum is themed — light and shadow, sound, motion, energy — all brought to life with colorful, touch-friendly models. A large rotating kaleidoscope lets visitors play with mirror designs, and other displays explain basic physics with clever illusions. The best part? Kids (and adults!) don’t just look, they participate — stand in a spot, press a switch, turn a crank — it’s science that asks to be touched and explored. It’s a great way to spark curiosity and make textbook lessons come alive. After the indoor fun, a large open-air lawn adds another dimension to the experience. A few outdoor experiments demonstrate how sound travels — stand on one side of a sculpture and hear your voice clearly reach the other end without shouting. The lawn also features large dinosaur replicas that kids absolutely love. Each one comes with a board describing its era, diet, and traits — a mini Jurassic experience in the hills! These life-size models help children visualize the prehistoric world with excitement and wonder. To top it all off, the lawn offers a picture-perfect backdrop — the museum, dinosaurs, and wide green lawns against a stunning view of the distant hills, floating clouds, and peaceful skies. All in all, the Kalimpong Science Centre is a beautiful blend of learning and leisure. Whether exploring science, watching clouds roll in, or capturing a few memorable photos — this is a place that engages the mind while feeding the soul. Highly recommended, especially for curious young learners!

Best Place in Kalimpong. If you are thinking that it is just another Science Centre/Museum and you should skip it, then you are doing the biggest mistake of your Kalimpong tour. It is indeed a great Science Centre/Museum, but it has hands down the best location & view point in Kalimpong. You can skip Delo if you want to, but not this one.

A beautiful place with loads of science and its magic. With beautiful breathtaking scenic surroundings this place has it all to amaze kids and adults alike. Would definitely recommend. Room for improvement: The 3D shows are kind of outdated with today's technology. They can improve that as well.

Visiting the Kalimpong Science Center was an absolute delight! This hidden gem offers an enriching experience for both adults and children alike. The interactive exhibits are thoughtfully designed to engage visitors and spark curiosity. The staff is incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about science, making the visit even more enjoyable. The planetarium show was a highlight, providing a mesmerizing journey through the cosmos. The outdoor science park is equally impressive, with hands-on activities that are both fun and educational. The center's focus on making science accessible and exciting is truly commendable. Overall, the Kalimpong Science Center is a must-visit for anyone interested in science and discovery. The temple dedicated to Lord Krishna is not only a stunning architectural piece but also a serene space that reflects his teachings and ways. It is situated in a well-maintained area that enhances the overall experience for visitors. During our visit, we had the opportunity to meet a knowledgeable preacher who generously shared her insights about the Pranami Sampradday. Her explanations were both detailed and enlightening, providing us with a deeper understanding of the teachings and philosophy associated with this tradition.

Mangal Dham in Kalimpong is a serene and beautifully maintained temple built in memory of Guruji Mangaldasji Maharaj. Located near the town center, it features stunning white architecture, peaceful gardens, and colorful depictions of Lord Krishna's life. The main prayer hall is calm and inviting, making it ideal for meditation or quiet reflection. The lower floor holds the Guruji’s samadhi. Visitors love the peaceful vibes, clean surroundings, and spiritual atmosphere. Entry is free, and it’s open from morning till evening. A perfect stop for those seeking peace and devotion amidst Kalimpong’s natural beauty. Suitable for all age groups.
Prakshi M — Google review
Mangal Dham Temple in Kalimpong is a serene and spiritually uplifting place that offers a welcome break from the usual tourist hustle. The calm, soothing environment and lack of crowd make it ideal for peaceful reflection and quiet prayer. During our visit, the evening bhajans were on, creating a tranquil and devotional ambiance. The temple complex is clean and well-maintained, including the restrooms, which is always a big plus. The mountain views from the temple grounds are a bonus. The access road is a narrow downhill lane, so driving requires a bit of caution, but it’s manageable. Once there, it’s worth the effort. A special mention to the temple trust’s social initiatives — including a goshala (cow shelter), schools, hospitals, and support for girls’ education. Highly recommended for those seeking peace, devotion, and a meaningful visit while in Kalimpong.

Merely 4-5 minutes walk from chowk. Large gathering of sellers ranging from garments, bags, spices, vegetables etc. Expected a better organized 'bazaar'. Also market closes even before 6, a bit longer opening hours would help the tourist crowd. Quite colorful for photographers.

Pine View Nursery, also known as the Kalimpong Cactus Nursery or Mohanji nursery, is a must-visit attraction in Kalimpong. Founded by Mr. Mohan S Pradhan, this unique nursery boasts an extensive collection of over 1500 species of cacti and succulents from around the world, making it the largest cacti collection in Asia.
Visited July 31, 2025 – Day 28 in India After saying goodbye to my dear friend and her son, the mood in the car was very heavy. My girls, aged five and seven, were quietly crying and missing them already. It was one of those moments when parting feels so hard, especially after such a warm reunion. Our driver suggested stopping by Pine View Nursery for some sightseeing, and I’m really glad he did. Since it was early in the morning, we were the only visitors there, which made the whole experience even more special. The place was wonderfully peaceful, surrounded by calm and quiet that felt like a gentle balm to our hearts. Walking through the nursery, we were completely fascinated by the incredible variety of cacti around us. There were so many different shapes and sizes, some small and round like little green balls covered in fine spines, others tall and columnar stretching upwards like natural sculptures. Some had delicate patterns on their surfaces, almost like nature’s own artwork, while others sported colorful blooms that popped brightly against the desert-green hues. It was amazing to see species from all over the world, each adapted in its own unique way to survive in harsh environments. The textures varied from soft and fuzzy to sharp and prickly, and the colors ranged from deep forest green to almost silvery shades. Some cacti even had tiny flowers blossoming, which added a surprising touch of beauty and delicacy to what you might otherwise think of as tough and rugged plants. My girls were completely absorbed, marveling at the strange and wonderful shapes. They asked so many questions, and it felt like a small adventure for them to learn about these unusual plants. I loved watching their curiosity grow with every step we took. The nursery was carefully organized so that we could take our time and appreciate each section. There was a calming rhythm to the visit, allowing us to forget the sadness we had felt earlier and instead focus on this quiet celebration of life and resilience. Leaving Pine View Nursery, I felt a little lighter. It was exactly the kind of peaceful interlude we needed to balance the emotions of the day. For anyone visiting Kalimpong, this is a serene spot that offers more than just plants, it offers a moment of calm, wonder, and a reminder of how diverse and beautiful nature can be.

Pineview Nursery in Darjeeling is a very beautiful and peaceful place to visit. It is not a big tourist attraction, but it feels special the moment you walk in. The nursery is full of different kinds of plants, especially cacti and succulents that you don’t usually see in this region. Some are tiny and cute, while others are tall and strangely shaped—it feels like walking through a little desert garden on a hill. The paths are clean and well maintained, and the staff are friendly and happy to answer questions. I was surprised to learn how many varieties of cactus they grow here. The display is arranged neatly, with colorful pots and name tags for most plants, which makes it easy to look around and learn. From the nursery, you can also enjoy a nice view of the surrounding hills, which adds to the charm. It’s a quiet place, away from the crowd, and perfect for people who love nature and gardening. Visiting Pineview Nursery was a refreshing experience. It showed me how beautiful and unique plants can be, even in a small corner of Darjeeling. I left with a peaceful mind and a smile on my face.

Avoid this place in Kalimpong. Bad experience. Staff is exceptionally rude and wasn't allowing us entry as we had just 10 minutes left. Although we were allowed later we were charged the full ticket fee. It is a really small place with very few cactus. Maintenance is very bad and seems the entry fees goes to the staff's pockets.

A cactus lover’s paradise in the hills! 🌵✨ Pine View Nursery in Kalimpong surprised me with its incredible and massive collection of cacti — easily one of the most unique nursery experiences I’ve had in India. From tiny, intricate varieties to giant, spiky showstoppers, the diversity here is mind-blowing. Some of the cactus species are rare and decades old, and you can tell they’ve been lovingly nurtured. It’s like stepping into a desert-themed botanical garden, but set against the misty backdrop of the Himalayan foothills — absolutely surreal! Even if you’re not a plant enthusiast, walking among these beautiful, unusual plants is a visual treat. It’s peaceful, educational, and truly photogenic. You’ll definitely walk away with a new appreciation for these fascinating plants. If you’re visiting Kalimpong, don’t miss this spot — a must-visit for nature lovers, photographers, and anyone who enjoys the quiet charm of green spaces. 🌿📸🌵 Would you like a quirky or punny version for Instagram? It's a nice cozy place, but the food quality is not really that good. It's more like average or in some cases bad. We have ordered some chicken dishes but the chicken are deep fried which turns it into very hard to chew. The location is perfect. Really hope they improve their food quality a bit. They don't really have special dishes from the chefs as such. Ambience is good for family. But again for the food it's a thumbs down.

As I am from Gangtok and this was my 1st experience in Kalimpong town. The ambiance was too old and faded, seems not painted since decade. Sofa and chairs was of primitive types. Overall restaurants was old and not maintained. Staff was well and responsive. It was good experience. Edible was fine. Not too costly. It's good to go with friends and families.

Maybe it's the best place in the town to hang out. This restaurant is situated at the center of the Kalimpong. The ambience is nice, sitting arrangements are very comfortable, they have offered a variety of foods and drinks and price is moderate. But don't expect much than this. The taste of the foods isn't good enough and the quality and quantity is not value for money. Don't not try any of the rice items at this place, they have mixed noodles with the rice and called it rice-noodles! All you can do over there is just to have a glass of beer and enjoy the ambience as well.

In the heart of the market, has its own hotel for accommodation. The staffs are courteous, nice ambience. The food needs a lot of improvement. Had veg mushroom soup and chicken combo. The soup was kinda okay, nothing special. The combo want not nice, too spicy

The waiters are very nice, helpful and polite. The place is big with a nice bar, and some antiques to look at... it is In the heart of the town yet peaceful. The food is not bad but spicy. The cocktails are very good, considering the fact that Kalimpong is a small town. Rooms are affordable, clean, hygentic. The restaurant is not very expensive but the service is a little slow but it is acceptable as the food is mostly fresh.
Kritika P — Google review
Considering Kalimpong pubs it's pretty good. The ambience is all laid back and retro pub kind with old school music. There is a provision for dj but we weren't lucky. The food is spicy and tasty with pocket friendly booze rates. Only expect city view from the windows. Hookah is not available if your are expecting. Locals considering as a family restro come bar.

Tucked away like a secret, this Kalimpong restaurant is a true gem. The ambience alone is worth the trip, a peaceful mountain haven. But the food? Absolutely superb. A must-visit for anyone seeking authentic flavors and a serene escape.

Nestled away from the hustle and bustle of Kalimpong's main market, Aam's Courtyard offers a tranquil escape within a beautiful private property. From the moment we arrived, we were captivated by the excellent views that stretched out before us. What truly stood out was the vibe of the place. It was the kind of atmosphere that encourages you to relax and linger, and we happily spent hours simply soaking it all in. The food options were vast, catering to a variety of tastes, and impressively, the service was quick and efficient, allowing us to fully enjoy our time without any unnecessary waits. Aam's Courtyard feels like a true hidden gem, offering not just a meal but an experience. If you're looking for a peaceful retreat with delicious food and stunning scenery in Kalimpong, this is a place you won't want to miss.

This place is situated outside town. The nearest tourist point is the pine view nursery. The atmosphere is very serene and the ambiance is also very good. It has two seating arrangements, one is indoor and the other is outdoor. On a sunny I would prefer to sit inside but the warm sun is good to take lovely pics outside. The food is good and the staff is helpful and courteous. Overall I loved the place.

Truly world class cuisine, and an unmatched, magical atmosphere! My husband, 10-year-old daughter, and I visited Aam's Courtyard this afternoon with some old friends from Kalimpong. Each of us was delighted by the experience! The menu offers a wide variety of options for every palate type. Our friends ordered the pulao and the "best fish" dish off the North Indian menu, while my husband ordered daal makhani. On the other hand, I ordered the Lemon Glaze Fish from the European menu and my daughter ordered the mac & cheese with grilled chicken, followed by the warm brownie and ice cream dessert. We were also offered fish fingers and fry chips as appetizers. Aam's Courtyard must have some excellent chef(s) on staff, because all of these varied types of foods were cooked to perfection! The presentation was spectacular - my Lemon Glaze Fish was practically art! Everything looked both beautiful and appetizing - but more importantly, everything was utterly delicious! All three locals found the North Indian cuisine to be absolutely mouth-watering! My daughter is a picky eater, but she absolutely loved the mac & cheese and grilled chicken, the hot chocolate, and the dessert! That's high praise, as we have trouble finding food she likes every time we visit India, but this was a 100% win! I cannot speak highly enough about the Lemon Glaze Fish with grilled potatoes, vegetables, and what I believe was a beetroot reduction! A feast for the eyes and prepared exquisitely. The hearty serving of fish filet was crispy on the outside, tender on the inside and seasoned beautifully! The vegetables were cooked perfectly with just the right hint of fresh crunch, and the potatoes were melt-in-your-mouth tender. The reduction was a lovely, mildly sweet addition to each bite. Truly delicious, and quite a hearty portion! As if the divine food wasn't enough, the ambience was truly magical. I highly recommend that anyone who visits (and everyone should!) try to time their meal to occur at twilight to make the most of the incredible scenery. Whether sitting indoors or outdoors, there is no bad spot as even the indoor seating features expansive windows throughout. The sun setting over the mountains felt unreal - coupled with the soft lighting indoors, lush greenery and beautiful flowers, and fairy lights decorating the space, the effect transports you to a different world. The decor was lovely and very calming. All facilities were modern, chicly designed, clean, and convenient. I strongly encourage anyone who has the chance to visit this wonderful restaurant. You will not be disappointed, I can guarantee! As for us, we will visit again at every possible opportunity!

The service was good with well mannered and polite staff. The ambience was also nice. But the food was just disappointing. At such a price we would expect some fine dining type dishes but what we got was store bought frozen darjeeling parathas. The other dishes we ordered were dal makhani which also tasted like store bought packaged one and the butter chicken was as if they forgot to add the cream and butter in it. it only has the taste of tomato puree. the pork rib only had a slab of fat in it. overall very bad experience even after spending around 5000 rs. The only good thing was the waiter who was very polite.

Thanks to Aam's courtyard for bringing a good selection of global food to Kalimpong. A perfect place to visit with friends and family. The staff are keen to assist in every way to make it a great experience. I was happy to see that the menu had many vegetarian options. YAY! Quite stunning presentation as well. I highly recommend the Mediterranean Platter and the Nacho bowl. Loved the ambience.

If you're on the hunt for a pizza experience that prioritizes quality over quantity, look no further than Pizza Pan in Kalimpong. This charming eatery has carved out a niche for itself by focusing primarily on crafting delicious pizzas, ensuring each bite is packed with flavor. With a reputation as one of the oldest pizza spots in town, it also offers some unique options like proper beef burgers and an array of bakery delights.
Good Pizza specially Great Wall Pizza..everyone should try it..

This place is one of the oldest pizza places in Kalimpong. The only other restaurant that provides proper beef burgers. The pizza was above average but I won't call it an excellent one. The crust looks are they are pre baked ones( I may be wrong) But the taste is good and the view is good too during the eve.

Brilliant quality pizza 👌 many restaurants try putting too much on their menus but this can affect the quality, however Pizza Pan focus on mainly just Pizza ... And I'm glad they do because it's delicious! Have ordered a few times now via Doorstep Delivery app and each time food arrives warm, on time and delicious. One of Kalimpong's best restaurants!

Chinese restaurant
The chinese restaurant Hongkong Chinese Restaurant is located in the middle of the main market area of Kalimpong, and on the second floor of a building. It has a few window-side tables that overlook the crowded road below, but it's not worth missing if you don't get one. The food is typical chinese fare and isn't anything special.
Nice place to have lunch / dinner near the bus stand at Kalimpong. Food is affordable and tasty. Budget friendly restaurant with a family ambience. The place is calm and not very crowded. Service is quick and efficient. Their Chowmein is nice and they have tasty pork items. You get cold drinks and bottled water as well. They have a clean washroom facility.

If you’ve been missing the old China Garden, Hong Kong Restaurant is the place to go. Located just opposite China Garden, this spot brings back that familiar taste and vibe that many of us grew up loving. The menu is quite similar, and the flavors are comforting and authentic, just like how they used to be. Portions are generous, making it great value for money. The only downside is that orders can take a bit of time, so be prepared to wait—but honestly, the food is worth it. The seating is simple and old-school, exactly like the classic setup at the old China Garden, which adds to the charm and nostalgic feel. One important note: they don’t accept online payments, so make sure to carry cash when you visit. Overall, if you’re looking for a no-frills, satisfying Chinese meal with a taste of the past, Hong Kong Restaurant won’t disappoint.

Located in the 1st floor. This place is for authentic Chinese food in kalimpong town. Mostly occupied by local people. Very good service. Very good taste of every items in reasonable price. Special mention is Hongkong Friend Chicken in starter.

On the expensive side. I felt that the quality did not justify the prices. That said, the food was quite tasty, but some of the dishes I ordered were not as good as I have had at other restaurants
