A must-visit if you're in Arunachal Pradesh — it truly feels like stepping into another world.

This is a historical place dating back a few centuries and I am no one to review this place 😊 However did I say it is a awesome, peaceful place with a panoramic view of the Tawang town and the valley! Its the largest practicing Buddhist Monastery in Asia. Please get accompanied by a guide or a local to sync in the significance and history. Also to add - do not touch or play with the items in first floor of the museum, the relics survived a few hundred years, they are fragile and you may end up in jail. Special mention a set of pre-historic tusks found in 17th century, possibly from a mammoth.

The Tawang Monastery is one of the Most Popular Tourist Spots in Tawang. It is quite a Huge Place that also houses a School, a Cafe and has a Shop selling all kinds of Grocery and other items as well. Inside, there is a Large Statue of Lord Buddha and a Lovely Portrait of His Highness The Dalai Lama as well. The Monastery is very well made with Excellent Interiors and is a Very Peaceful Place to Meditate in as well. Being on top of a Hill, the Views from this Monastery are also Truly Amazing and there is plenty of Greenery with many Trees and Bushes full of Flowers that adds to the Beauty of this place. Definitely a Must Visit for every Tourist visiting Tawang.

I absolutely loved visiting Tawang Monastery! The vibes here are so peaceful and spiritual — truly a magical place surrounded by breathtaking mountains. The lamas were very kind and knowledgeable, sharing deep insights about the monastery’s history and traditions. One of the highlights was the monastery museum, where I saw incredible artifacts — including a book written with gold, which was truly mind-blowing! If you're in Arunachal Pradesh, this place is a must-visit for history, peace, and culture.

The Tawang Monastery — also known as Gaden Namgyal Lhatse — is one of the most iconic spiritual and cultural landmarks in Arunachal Pradesh and the entire Himalayan region. Situated about 10,000 ft (3,000 m) above sea level. Founded in 1680-1681 by Merak Lama Lodre Gyat so, under the guidance of the 5th Dalai Lama.

There is quiet divine presence here. Sunshine is brighter. Mountains are singing, trust me on this, breeze here feels like a song. Must go. I went with a local guide. Though that didn't help much because he himself was pretty clueless about many things.

Mr. Lobsang of Tawang Tour and Travel did a wonderful job for us. He also arranged tour to scenic and famous Madhuri lake famous for the Shah Rukh Khan and Madhuri Dixit movie Koyla. We also did not miss the Bum La (Pass) the LAC border between India and China and was happy to have a glimpse of Tibet.

We had our honeymoon trip planned with Tawang Adventure Group. We booked the trip with them in Scorpio-N given the chances of snow in December. We planned for a 12 day trip with Guwahati Airport pickup and drop. Deep received us at Guwahati Airport on Day 1 and our first North East India trip began. From his behaviour when he picked us up, driving, never complaining on innumberable pit stops and supreme driving skills on hill roads, we felt immensely thankful on Day 1 itself. On Day 3 of our trip, we changed our rest of the itinerary, by that time, our equation with Deep changed to Deep bhai and he helped us re-plan the entire trip that involved extending the trip to 12 days insted of 11 days and re-booking all homestays On Day 4, we planned to visit Holy Water/ Bumla/ Hot Spring Damteng. Having read on Tawang, we thought that we'll go to Bumla in a tourist taxi (you need to have local Tawang taxi to visit Bumla/Holywater/Madhuri Lake). But Deep bhai arranged a brand new ( a month old) Scorpio N, as promised in the initial trip plan. Thupten Bhai was with us that day and we had a wonderful trip to Holy Water Chumi Gyester ( shows in Tibet on Goolge Maps). Surprisingly he made us a part of his family and we were served piping hot local cuisine as part of family picnic. No words can truly express our gratitude and love for this gesture. Jambey Bhai took us to Zemithang driving safely and ensuring that we stopped as a wonderful hill view point in Gispu. Post Zemithang, Deep bhai entertained all our requests to go to Khenzemane, Lumla Post Office and back to Kitpi. From Kitpi, we went to Morshing and explored the village by visiting LagYala Gompa. The road to LagYala was truly off-road but Deep bhai didn't deny taking us to the Gompa and we visited a Gompa, even older than Tawang Monastery. From Morshing, he dropped us back to Guwahati. We were really sad that our association was coming to an end but happy as well, as we found such a wonderful ever reliant person in Deep bhai and great tour planners in Tawang Adventure Tourism Group. Highly recommend Tawang Adventure Tourism Group and whole heartedly thank Deep Bhai and Jambey Bhai for planning and executing our entire trip.

Well, the trip just started with a call to Mr. Deep, who gradually became Deep Daa. Ample number of options to choose from in every location throughout the Tawang trip. I am served with rotten chicken burger and the for the veg burger we were served with some old bun. Billing person refused to cancel the order instead asked me to pay the bill for the food which we did not eat due to the quality.

The cafe is located in the old market. The ambience is warm. Food and service was also commendable.

Good food at affordable prices in the heart of tawang. The pasta Bolognese was amazing, the hot chocolate was great and the crispy chicken was delicious. We loved this little cafe tucked away in tawang. Very cosy. Decor done up very well. Pizzas and pastas are good. Hot chocolate was fantastic. Closes at 7.30, but if you are in before that, you can stay on and enjoy. Started by a young entrepreneur and run ably by his sister and staff. There are evenings of live music as well.

Overall, I recommend Phuns Cafe for a quick bite or a leisurely afternoon coffee break.

The Tawang War Memorial is a Beautiful Stupa (Buddhist Shrine) built to commemorate our Indian Martyrs who sacrificed their lives in the 1962 Indo-China War. This Memorial was built in Memory of the 2,420 Members of our Armed Forces who laid down their lives in the Kameng District of Arunachal Pradesh during the War and is divided into two Major Halls. One is a Museum that houses the belongings of the Martyrs and the other is used as an Auditorium where an Amazing Sound and Light Show takes you back to the days of the War. There are wall-mounted photographs that chronicle the Brave Acts of our Soldiers and exhibits that showcase the Weapons and Tanks used by both the Indian and the Chinese Armies during the War. Glass encased displays containing maps show the rugged terrain and border areas where most of the fighting took place. This War Monument also has a Gift Shop where Mementos can be bought and the proceeds go to Army Welfare. Truly a Must Visit for all Tourists when in Tawang.

The memorial is built in respect and memory of the sacrifices and bravery of Indian Army in 1962 war between India and China. The warriors defended the enemy at their last drop of blood in the battlefield. They set the example of valour with less modern equipment and artillery in comparison with their counterparts. The ultimate sacrifice and patriotism still gives a goosebump and feels proud of our Indian Army. In the memory, it makes the arrangements of a light and sound show which depicts the bravery of 1962, the history and significance of Tawang in Arunachal Pradesh and in India. It also consists of a cultural exhibition to showcase the traditional dance, Yak Dance, Snow Lion Dance etc to promote the and spread the local traditional culture. Buying tickets for the both the show in the morning is a must to avoid the chance of missing the show because of ticket scarcity and availability. Some one may visit the museum just adjacent to the memorial which costs Ra 70 per person. It also consists of monuments and the names of all the brave heroes of India in Bumla and Zimithang sector. Its a must visit place in Tawang to respect, know and pay homage to the protectors of our country and ourselves.

Had a nice meal at orange bar. The starters are really nice. I tried chilly chicken which was prepared well. Drinks are also priced well. The lady running the place is very polite. Would definitely visit again next time in Tawang. Place stays open till 2am.

Restaurant is situated right in the heart of Tawang and remains open till 9:30 pm. The prices are affordable. The alcohol offered here is quite cheap compared to the rates offered in the metros. I understand that this is a lounge and only decent finger food is expected and hence my expectations were partially fulfilled. The food, therefore, is average and not memorable. Drinks are a plus and the service is superlative. I will come back only for the service.

This place is run by a local lady. She makes your drinks, cooks the food and serve the food. Liquor is very cheap in Arunachal Pradesh. You can find lots of Wine shop all around the Arunachal Pradesh. Beer, whiskey, rum etc rates are very expensive. She has limited stocks. You can spend some time while having some beer/rum. Good place for locals. In Tawang most of the restaurants shut shop by 8 pm. This is one of the restaurant which opens till 10 pm. The restaurant also serves liquor. The hotel has a parking lot for two to three cars . The interiors are pretty okay compared to Tawang standards but not great. The food is just average. The staff is very courteous and helpful. Restaurants in Tawang do not serve Non Vegetarian on Wednesdays, so cater for accordingly. Overall an average restaurant.

It's a small place tucked in an alley in the main market in Tawang. Mostly frequented by army officers, it's a nice place to get a drink and chat with other tourists. The food is just average but the liquor is cheap and the lady who runs it is delightful to chat with.

Orange was the only restaurant which served us late post 8pm. If you have been in Tawang ull know that everything here shuts down by 8pm. The staff waited patiently for us to finish while sharing valuable local knowledge and suggestions. The food the delicious (we ordered egg fried rice and chilli chicken) but could be improved. Has an uniquely different ambience as compared to other eateries in the area. I'll definitely suggest this atleast once during your stay at Tawang.

Good food, we tried veg noodles and veg burger along with fresh orange juice and ginger lemon honey tea. They were all delicious. Service seemed relatively slow although waiter did inform in prior about the 25 mins wait time while taking the order. Atmosphere is simple like the rest of the places in Tawang. No flashy lights/ loud music. Their bathroom was clean but they only have 1 common bathroom which is Indian.

It's a restaurant for oriental cuisine located in the marketplace of Tawang in Arunachal Pradesh. It's located on the first floor. Interior is nice with a clean environment. We were 11 in the group. Food quality and quantities are good. We tried veg fried rice, veg clear soup, chicken momo, chicken thukpa, and dry chill chicken. All were very good in taste. Very reasonable price of all the items.

The only decent outlet at Tawang, which was open at 1900. The last order is at 1930. Note that the town closes down at 1930. We ordered for pork thupka, chilly pork and chicken Momos. The thupka was a let down, with the pork appearing to be uncooked. The chilly pork was okay & so were the Momos. We paid 720/- for the three dishes. The service was slow and disinterested. The place was neat and the ambience okay for Tawang.

Wonderful memorial to the late CM of Arunachal Pradesh who died tragically in a helicopter crash. The main memorial building has a section on Mr. Dorjee Khandu, his life story till his death with momentos and photos displayed. There is also a section on his political journey and achievements and initiatives he started for the welfare and improvement of the people of the state. There are audio-visual recordings that visitors can view. The other section of the memorial is on the 6th Dalai Lama who hailed from Tawang. The whole memorial layout and design is very well done. There is a feeling of weight and respect inside the memorial. Other than the memorial building, there is a stupa as well as a bust of Mr. Dorjee Khandu. There are also small huts with benches where visitors can take a break and rest.

Such a picturesque place, museum is currently closed but one can just sit and take in the peace and grandeur of the place. The colorful flowers on the surrounding trees and clean surroundings are a balm for the bruised soul.

Visited this place 4 years ago. Nestled at a very beautiful place right in the lap of nature. This memorial is dedicated to the former chief minister of Arunachal Pradesh Dorjee Khandu. The memorial was built after The former CM lost his life in a chopper crash. The premises is blessed with natural beauty and man-made structure. It even has a beautiful stupa in the premises.

Beautiful Memorial Cum Museum in the memory of Dorjee Khandu, the late former Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh of India. Bhuddist style architecture. Many pillars are there with half bust statute of Dorjee Khandu. Nice garden surrounds this memorial. Museum is in another building within the complex, where achievements of Dorjee Khandu as Chief Minister is highlighted. Memories connected with Dorjee Khandu are also showcased as his links with HH Dalai Lama, the date of air crash in which he died, who were the other four people who died with him in that air crash. Photographs related to air crash in which he died. It is to be noted that Dorjee Khandu then Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh died in air crash in 2011. His son Pema Khandu is presently the Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh.

A beautiful and peaceful place which is a short walk from Tawang Town. Unfortunately, it started raining heavily on our way back and there was no place to take shelter. I wish I had checked the weather forecast on AccuWeather or tomorrow.io, and carried umbrellas with us.

Its not a popular tourist destination, but have a great significance in Buddhism as it's a birth place of 6th Dalai Lama. As you will enter the complex you will feel Peace and calmness in the atmosphere. Its just 10min detour on Tawang highway a must visit if you want to experience the calmness

One of the best and peaceful places in Tawang. It's the birthplace of 6th Dalai Lama, which makes it even more beautiful and historic. The trees around the gompa are beautiful. The gompa is also made beautifully. The blend of colours every where is a treat to the eyes! It's a very good place for meditating. The inside of the gompa is a bit cold, unlike the outside. Surely give this place a visit and pay attention to every details here.

One of the good food joints in Tawang. They serve both veg and non veg food here. Don't forget to try Tupka here. Service is too slow. They take their own time to serve you. They say they have washroom facility which is pathetic.

I wanted to have Ashum thupka- a local dish usually had at Losar and I was directed to Woodlands by the very friendly executive of the Tourism office at Tawang. And boy I wasn't disappointed! Infact it was great. I am a fan of Ashum thupka :)

Very neat and clean small joint. Very popular in local youngsters and tourists too. Local thukpa is signature dish and really amazing.

We went here for lunch. The service was slightly slow probably because it was a little crowded at that time. The food was really great in taste. The chicken noodles, thukpa, then thuk and boiled chicken with bamboo shoots are highly recommended. The prices were also affordable. The restaurant is a little small. So, a large group (more than 6) might find it difficult to find seats here at peak times.

Interior ambience is good. Nice seating arrangement. We ordered chow mein, which was good. But, the thukpa was not that tasty, and it lacked spices. We could not taste non veg dishes, and it is not available on Wednesdays. The toilet is really at a low height , and guests will have a embarrassing and difficult time at the rest room!

Truly massive and gigantic waterfall with a river flowing beneath. Breathtaking views for the tourists visiting Arunachal. The hydel power plant on way to the waterfall adds beauty and also the natural mountains opposite to this waterfall quantifies it's greenery and refreshing views. Entry fee is very minimal and best part is almost every tourist vehicle can reach till the very base of the falls.

Jung Waterfall, also known as Nuranang Falls or Bong Bong Falls, is a breathtaking natural marvel located about 40 kilometers from Tawang town in Arunachal Pradesh. It originates from the northern slopes of the Sela Pass, forming the Nuranang River, which tumbles down sheer cliffs and merges with the Tawang River. I recently visited Jung Falls in October 2025, and it turned out to be one of the most peaceful and refreshing experiences I’ve had in a long time. The place is absolutely beautiful, serene, and eye-soothing, surrounded by misty hills and the calming sound of rushing water. It’s the kind of spot where you can just sit quietly and take in the beauty of nature for hours. Jung Falls is also a great place for a picnic if you enjoy spending time outdoors. However, a small word of caution — the roads leading to the falls are quite tricky, with sharp turns and steep slopes, so you need to drive carefully. Despite that, the view along the way is breathtaking, and once you reach the falls, you’ll feel that every bit of the journey was worth it. There are very few shops on the way to Jung Falls or even towards Tawang, so I’d strongly suggest carrying your own food and water. Having a few snacks packed makes the experience a lot more convenient and enjoyable. Overall, Jung Falls is a hidden gem in Arunachal Pradesh — perfect for those who love nature, peace, and scenic beauty. The journey might be a little challenging, but the moment you stand before the majestic waterfall, you’ll know it was worth every effort. A truly magical place to visit.

Best Waterfall around Tawang region. The place is yet kept natural, with all the water splashing. Must visit if you're around Tawang, recommended to carry waterproof clothes. Best time to visit on a clear sunny day, multiple rainbows are visible.

Visited the place (the waterfall) on 8th October 2025. In one word, everyone will definitely be fall in love with this place once they have a visit to this beautiful spot. The weather (on that day) was amazing and perfect for enjoying the waterfall. We have celebrated our son’s birthday there with great enthusiasm and pleasure. Jung Falls is an incredibly beautiful place that one must visit when in Arunachal Pradesh. The waterfall is massive, with a river flowing below, creating a truly breathtaking sight. There is also a hydropower plant nearby, adding to the uniqueness of the location. The entry fee is minimal, but the experience is unforgettable. I sincerely request all tourists to maintain cleanliness and avoid littering so that this stunning natural site remains beautiful and pristine for everyone to enjoy.

Penga Teng Tsio lake , commonly called as Pt Tso lake is a beautiful and serene place for view. A calm and cold atmosphere will definitely captivate your soul with serenity and peace.

Ome of the largest lake enroute to Bumla from Tawang,,,, Tourists take a break here to mesmerize the beauty of this lake.......its little down side from the main road, so to go near this lake one need to get down from the highway..... You can take a round of this lake as a cemented pavement is constructed for tourists.

Pankang Teng Tso Lake (also known as P.T. Tso) is one of the most interesting lakes surrounded by the brilliance and beauty of Mother Nature. This lake is surrounded by a vivid backdrop of the snow-clad Himalayan Mountains and gushing cool waters of the rivers. In fact, the entire Tawang is a major tourist destination and it hosts a perfect blend of adventure tourism. During visit to P T So lake you are surrounded by calm water, quite meandering clouds, wet snow-covered forests and sweet chirping of birds. A popular tourist attraction Pankang Teng Tso Lake is indeed, especially for its tranquil setting and interesting places around. Getting to Pankang Teng Tso lake takes 17 km road trip amidst white back drop . This place is famous in Arunachal Pradesh is because you can find two distinct ambiences, while it remains cool, quite , white fluffy snow covered surroundings in winter , it is very pleasant with blue lapis flowers in summers. This lake falls along an important motorable road that connects Tawang with Bumla Pass. The serenity offered by it is indescribable. This long lake among the mighty mountains is a treat to the eyes. Though the terrain is rough, roads are being repaired and would definitely better access in the future. On the way to Bumla. It is on the main road. You can stop and have nice pics on the lake. Two lakes combined together. I went to this lake from tawang with my family, its a beautiful lake between mountain on such a height. You can go to this place by your own car no need to hire taxi,only if you are going to madhuri lake and bulmla pas then its better to a hire a taxi. Tip: No shops nearby so take something to eat with you from tawang. Must visit place if you are in tawang...✌🏼✌🏼

I rode my bicycle from Tawang main market to the P T Tso lake and noticed few others as well. But P T Tso was the vast and undoubtedly the most beautiful among them, which is also a matter of perception. I was lucky enough to watch a herd of yaks also. One can enjoy a picnic here under the canopy, walk around the lake on the cobbled trail and don't leave any trash behind, pls. Leave it as beautiful as you find it. Also, if you put up a small bonfire then please make sure to put it off before leaving.

The lake PT Tso,as is known by all the residents of  Tawang, is the spot of natural union of beauty of the mountains with the expanse of the grasslands. With every week the lake and its surroundings take a different colour and the scene changes significantly.It is not only a lake,it is a dream like imagination because of the splendid views it captures in that setting. The magnificent symmetrical fir forest of the mountains puts a mist of a green glow on the water of the lake. The carpet of the yellow flowers especially of the primula species are found in all the open pockets around the lake and are interspersed by the rhododendron patches,blooming with the grandeur of the mountains forming the background. The pink terraces of the rhododendrons ,the yellow mat of the primulas under the clear blue roof give the lake an unusual pristine beauty. With the advent of winter at the horizon,the blue sky with floating white clouds at the top,the snow capped mountains all around the lake and the embrace of the rhododendron forest give the lake its colour and turn it into a sleeping beauty awaiting the arrival of her beloved. Situated at a distance of around 18 kilometers from Tawang ,the place is a major attraction all around the year.

Beautiful lake just beyond Tawang on the way to Bumla Pass. In winters the area has sub zero temperature and heavy snow fall. Best time to visit for snow lovers is february to March, for others it is October or April.

PTso lake is easily my favourite lake in the whole of Tawang. Since it's one of the largest or so to say the longest lake in Tawang, there's so much to explore in this lake. The lake is frozen during winter starting from January. The place surrounding the lake is covered by snow during winter and it's covered by lapis flower and rhododendron during summer. So basically the lake looks awesome throughout the year. The lake is also a home to different colorful birds. Lastly, don't forget to wear gloves and warm jacket if you're visiting during winter.

This is a must visit for any bird watching enthusiast. Situated between tenga and misamari in Arunachal Pradesh. Guwahati to Tenga and then onto the sanctuary is the way to travel. There are three camps in the sanctuary that offer accommodation. Lama, bompu and khellong. Hiring an SUV With an experienced driver is recommended as the roads are just jeep tracks in areas The place is beautiful with mist covered mountains and floating clouds and dense forests The elevation decreases as you travel from lama to khellong and the flora and fauna changes accordingly. Best place for bird watcher and Nature lover. One of my favorite places.The only place where an endangered bird species Bugun Liocichla is found.Views from the top of the camp is amazing. Food and service and the people of the camp were too good.Go for it.

Not a commercial area and known for tourist but you can spot beautiful birds and even hornbills here. I spotted kindfishers, woodpecker and hornbill during my visit.

Two forest check posts. Road is good upto lama camp. Then it is offroad, narrow with sharp stones jutting out from side & below. Serious birdwatchers frequent here with long telephoto lenses.

great place to visit. try to get one guide. single road so good driving skill is reqd. elephant, pandas ,wild buffalos can be seen. lots of endangered birds can be found. the jungle is thick and you have to pay rs 100 per person to check post operated by village council. The birds sound are incredible.overall amazing place to visit.

The sanctuary lies in Arunanchal Pradesh state of India. Only place where Bugun Liocichla a endangered bird species is found.....Community forest is Managed by Bugun Tribal community. To see....Bugun Liocichla bird, Lama camp, Forest canopy walk, adventure sports etc.
