Fort Marlborough, also known as Benteng Marlborough, is a star-shaped former British fort located in Bengkulu. Built between 1714 and 1720 by the East India Company, it replaced an earlier fort called Fort York. Despite being in an earthquake-prone area, the fort remains remarkably well-preserved with thick walls arranged in a star shape and surrounded by dry moats.
Beautiful site. Full of historical story about Bengkulu when British and Holland invade them. Nice place to study and enjoy Bengkulu
Rosa I — Google review
If you love history and/or the colonial story of the English and Dutch in this part of the world then definitely go here. The fort is well maintained and there is a private tourguide who gives excellent information. Inside the fort you can freely walk around and also go up to the walls from where you have a beautiful view over the city and a little bit the ocean. One thing the museum could improve is to provide English speaking guides and English written information. Everything is in Bahasa Indonesia and clearly not prepared for international visitors. Other than that we enjoyed the tour.

One of historical place in Bengkulu. The architecture is very unique and still original, because they never have a significant renovation. From the top of this port, you can see the beach and the perfect sunset. Going to Bengkulu? You must putting this biggest port in Asia at the top of your visiting list.
Asti P — Google review
Nice old British fort in the center of the old town of Bengkulu - staff is helpful (Indonesian only) and they have nice exposition rooms inside the fort - unfortunately only in Indonesian. Entry price is 5k/person (2021) and you can freely walk around in/on the whole fort.

The management is better now. Maybe there should be regular events and also a relaxing place like a coffee shop.
Teguh K — Google review
Historical site where you can learn more about English occupation in Bencoolen. The place was clean and well maintained. After you finish fort tour, you can walk to the beach around the fort.

Pantai Jakat, located in Bengkulu City, is known for its picturesque views and as one of the beautiful tourism spots in the area. The beach offers a serene environment with low waves, making it suitable for families with children. Visitors can also enjoy stunning sunsets and capture memorable photographs. While the beach is praised for its beauty, some have noted challenges in tourist management such as scattered trash and unorganized vendors. Ibu Fatmawati Soekarno's House is a replica that offers a glimpse into the years 1938-1942 when Mr. Soekarno was exiled to Bengkulu. The house showcases original clothing, photographs, and even the sewing machine used to sew the first Indonesian flag by Mrs. Fatmawati herself.

Rumah Pengasingan Bung Karno, also known as Bung Karno's Exile House, is a well-preserved historical site in Bengkulu, Indonesia. It was the residence of President Sukarno during his exile by the Dutch colonial government in the 1940s. The house consists of a main building and a guesthouse, with various rooms used for different purposes.
Insightful place to know better President Soekarno as a person and how his learnings/reflection during the exile helps him shaping the vision he about to bring out for Indonesia's independence. The place is well preserved and clean. Quite affordable ticket price
Satrio W — Google review
This place is one of the house that being situated for politically exiled person. In this case, Soekarno, one of the founding fathers of Indonesia, had live in this place after being exiled by the Netherland. I love how the recent rennovation with the place create a fresh new color and aura, in which invites you to come (: The museum operator and maintenance team had done a good job, starting from the ticket-person, security (which sometimes they guide you around), also the gardener. Inside, you can found many artifacts, including books made by Soekarno. Although, I hope they digitized the book and let us read it there. But more than that, you could also find some history of one of Indonesian founding fathers. Place it together, and you will find that Bengkulu had been one place that shape Republic of Indonesia's first president.
John J — Google review
This place might be small, but rich in history. You can learn what Soekarno did while he was exiled in Bencoolen. This is not the exact replica of how the house looked like back then because some part of the house is curated to be museum. But you can still feel the magical atmosphere of it. There is also an old well in the backyard that still in function. The myth says if you wash your face using the water from the well, you can stay young and will get the charisma of Soekarno. Well, it is yours to believe 😋 All in all, this site is worth the visit! The ticket price is so affordable ranging from Rp5k-Rp10k only. I recommend you take the guide to tell the full history and do come in the morning, simply because the sky is so blue and it is more beautiful than in the afterrnoon. I know because I visited this place two times, one in the morning around 8 AM and one in the afternoon around 4 PM. I didn't attach the photos or videos inside the house, so you can witness the magic on your own! 😉

Bung Karno’s exile home (Rumah Pengasingan Bung Karno) is located on Jalan Jeruk – later renamed Jalan Soekarno-Hatta, in the Gading Cempaka District, Bengkulu City. Bung Karno’s exile home in the town of Bengkulu measures roughly 162 square meters. It is a simple, rectangular house with plain walls, a high pyramid-shaped roof and a spacious yard. The main doors are double leaf with ornate window grills. It is not known when the house was first constructed, but it is estimated to have been built in the early 20th century.

Domestic airport
Nestled just 14 kilometers south of the charming city of Bengkulu, Fatmawati Soekarno Airport serves as a vital gateway for travelers. Since 2016, it has offered daily direct flights from Jakarta and connections to other cities like Palembang and Batam. While this small airport is in the process of modernizing itself with hopes for international flights, its compact size means quick access to luggage and easy navigation through its facilities.
A nice and small domestic airport that revives to modernize itself and go international. The building is not too big but its public service facilities, such as waiting rooms and toilets, are quite complete and clean. The prayer hall inside the terminal building needs to be enlarged. Hopefully, when the new building is completed, it will be equipped with an jet bridge, so that passengers don't get caught in the rain when getting out of the plane and entering the terminal building.
Taufik W — Google review
A small airport, almost like an airstrip. That would reduce time to walk around while taking the luggage after our arrival here. Additional point, very simple. Arrive, take the luggage, and go out. However, there's no direct flight from pekanbaru to this airport so it would be complicated once the first flight got delayed. I thought SSK II in Pekanbaru is the smallest, yet in turns out this Airport is much smaller.

Linau beach is located in Desa Linau, kecamatan Majen, Kaur, South Bengkulu. The beach is right on the right side of the road if you are driving from Bengkulu. It takes about 5-6 hours driving from Bengkulu. The beach is really beautiful! The sand is white. The water is clear and blue. It's so mesmerizing! You can walk or just sit on the sand and enjoy the beautiful view right in front of you. Taking pictures or selfies. Listening to songs of the waves crashing the shore. But, it's not suggested to swim in this beach because the undercurrent and also the big wave. It's dangerous. No entry ticket is needed. Unfortunately, there are many street vendors making their stall right along the road and they block the view from the street and also garbage can be spotted in some corners. I give 5 stars to this review because the beach is worth that much despite the littering part.

Pantai Samudra Ujung is a secluded beach located on the southern outskirts of Bengkulu, offering a serene and relaxing atmosphere. While the rough waters make it unsuitable for swimming, they create ideal conditions for surfing, making it a hidden gem for experienced surfers seeking quiet surf spots. The beach is not well-maintained and lacks popularity among both locals and tourists, providing an escape from crowded and lively beaches.
beautiful beach and away from the hustle and bustle of the city, whose beauty is threatened due to the construction of the Sepang Bay coal power plant
M M — Google review
Samudra Ujung beach is not convenient, rarely suitable for swimming, and much less popular with locals and foreign tourists than other Bengkulu beaches. If you’re the kind of person who really likes crowded and popular lively beaches, then this beach is not the right one for you. But if you’re into surfing, then this beach is probably the best place to come if you’re looking for quiet great surf spots in Bengkulu. This beach is a nice escape and a truly hidden gem for experienced surfers. Samudra Ujung beach is strongly recommended for surfers. Plenty of good waves break on the reefs, including “long lefts and rights”. Early or late in the day on a mid to high tide will be the best time for a surf when the swell gets bigger. So far, only a few local or foreign surfers come to surf here. If you want to try to surf here, it will be a frustrating trip taking a non-chartered car. It will be easier to get here by paying more for a chartered angkot (city public transport) for Rp 80,000 or around US$ 6 (return trip). Keep in mind, don't get into the vehicle until you've agreed on a fare you are comfortable paying, and even better pay from your stack of smaller bills so that the driver will not owe you any change. There is no hotel or food stall nearby the surf spots, so bring your own food, drink and gears! No entrance fee, except on Eid al-Fitr and Eid Al-Adha holidays, visitors are charged by the locals for Rp. 1,000 per person. #Letsguide #surfspot #hidden

Dendam Tak Sudah Lake, also known as A Neverending Grudge Lake, is a serene spot with a poignant legend. Despite its ominous name, the lake offers peaceful surroundings and stunning views. Visitors can enjoy leisurely activities like boating and fishing while taking in the mesmerizing reflection of the surrounding greenery on the water. Although located near a busy road, it's best to visit early in the morning for tranquility and clear views of mountains with clouds hanging beautifully in the sky.

This place is actually very beautiful. Unfortunately, some local people sell some random stuffs across the street and they sometimes litter on the lake. I don't recommend you to buy food there since the price is much more expensive than the normal price. However, this place is still worth to visit. One more thing, there is a rare variety of orchids called 'Anggrek Pensil'(Vanda hookeriana) which grows around the lake!
Dian P — Google review
This lake is actually a calming beautiful lake if only it's not located right by the side of a busy road. I personally prefer to enjoy this lake early in the morning when the street is not too busy, so I can enjoy the lake with its serenity and fresh air. In the morning, when the sky clear, you can see mountains with clouds hanging beautifully on the eastern sky. To enjoy the lake, you can sit on chairs provided by the street vendors or just do a quick stop and stand few minutes and go. If you choose to sit, you have to buy drinks or snacks like fresh coconut, sodas, grilled corn, etc but the price will be more expensive than any other places in town.

This octagon-shaped monument is worth a visit because of the historic value. The monument was established in 1808 as a reminder of the death of an assassinated British governor in Bencoolen, Thomas Parr, and today it still stands strong. The monument is composed of three arched doorways, a doom and six Corinthian columns in reference to ancient Rome and Greece. It is located at the meeting point of Jl. Ahmad Yani and Jl. Mazairi, very close from the Fort Marlborough. No entrance fee. I greatly appreciate efforts made by the authorities for paying proper attention and saving this monument from ruining away.

While prices may be slightly higher than typical Padang restaurants, the experience is well worth it for those seeking genuine local flavors. Diners rave about the delightful array of dishes that harmoniously complement each other, making it hard to choose a favorite.

I think the best in city, you have many choices where you can seat, air conditioned room, on the top or outside. You are on the beach 🏖 actually. Pizza is not bad and I’m Italian

The food was okay. I ordered the ikan bakar and cah kangkung. The staff was pretty attentive and helpful. It also has a plenty of parking lot and a nice view. I was the only guest there. So even if there were staff, the interior looked rusty and old adding to the uncomfortable feeling. Maybe a rebranding or renovation will be so much better. Keep doing great Aloha!

Aloha Resto is one resto located right across the beach that serve national and western foods with decent taste , nice ambiance for youngsters, professionals and family with indoor and outdoor seating. The menu is in English so it's good for the westerners to get better descriptions of the foods and drinks. The price is average for some and quite expensive for the rest. Beer and wifi are available. Overall it's nice resto but need to improve the service. The waiters had to back and forth to confirm of the availability of our order.

Nice location by the beach and a good western menu but the service is awful and the food is just ok. We had to ask for a menu even though 4 or 5 staff were standing around. My husband had to get his own knife and fork and he had finished his meal by the time mine arrived. The menu said the fish and chips came with salad, which it didn't. When we asked, the waiter said the sauce was the salad??? And my pizza when it did arrive was not properly cooked - the dough still soft. All in all, disappointing.

Bengkulu Museum stands as a vital cultural hub in Bengkulu, showcasing the rich tapestry of history and heritage shaped by various influences, particularly from its colonial past under British rule. This unique museum houses an extensive array of artifacts, images, audio recordings, and ancient texts that narrate the story of the province. Visitors can immerse themselves in Bengkulu's diverse culture while also exploring nearby attractions like the stunning Rafflesia Arnoldy flower and historical sites along Soekarno-Hatta Street.

Museum was dark with few lights. Display cases had dirty glass. Except for a few signs near front entrance, Bahasa Indonesia is only language on display. The large glass doors were chained shut which made for a fire hazard. Since air conditioning was turned off it was very hot inside. There is a long exterior stairway to get to front entrance. To see all exhibits it is necessary to negotiate two more stairways in both directions. The staff was laughing at me as I left in frustration. (No I am not making this up)

The provincial museum, Musium Negeri Propinsi Bengkulu is worth a visit because of the historic and cultural value. The museum features a large display of interesting traditional costumes, housing, implements, and other geological and archaeological items. In my mind, this museum has interesting histories to inspire and educate visitors. I hope the local government can provide a web page for this museum to show more people what this museum has to offer. The museum is conveniently located on Jl. Pembangunan No.8 Padang Harapan, and it has easy parking. It is open daily from Tuesday to Friday - 8 am to 3 pm, and it is closed on Sundays, Mondays, Saturdays and public holidays. Entry costs Rp. 2,500 per person. Con: it will be a challenging visit for foreign visitors as English speaking guide is rarely available.

Pindang 77 Bengkulu City Bengkulu February 2020 Tempoyak Pindang Kepala Patin for 35 K IDR++ Various sources who do not know each other all pointed to this place as the best pindang place in town, so i had to give it a try. Admittedly this is the freshest patin (Pangasius) i have ever had and I guess in that light they did work with it magnificently, but what this meant is that the pindang broth itself should not overpower the fish. And overpower it did not - the broth was nice and subtle, but that's exactly my beef with it - that it was a bit too soft and subtle in regards to its flavour profile. Perhaps i am a bit more used to other pindangs in which the strength of the yellow broth is essential in imparting its flavours into whatever was cooked in it, but i really could have used some more heat and spiciness. Even the tempoyak (sambal made with fermented durian) became more of a subtle aftertaste rather than the strong pungency i have come to expect out of the namesake. But i guess this then probably becomes a good way to introduce both pindang and tempoyak to those who prefers a softer palate. The 8 K++ for 4 fried tempeh was quite okay for that price. The 15 K++ cah kangkung was also quite ample and nice, but i have a suspicion they cheated a bit. Sadly the 12 K++ avocado juice was too watered down and the 7 K++ for a portion of rice also kinda hurts. However, on its own 35 K++ for such a huge piece of really fresh fish is amazing value for money. I know this is kind of the boondocks, but this is definitely worth a visit if you're ever in the area. #good #food #in #bengkulu #indonesia #pindang #tempoyak #durian #worth
