Buriram in 1 day

If you only have 1 day to spend in Buriram, we’ve narrowed down the top places you should check out to get the best experience of your time here.
Buriram offers a mix of ancient Khmer heritage and contemporary Thai culture, centered around the impressive Phanom Rung Historical Park and other well-preserved temple ruins. The city has grown into a regional sports hub, with the Chang International Circuit for motorsport events and a modern football stadium home to Buriram United. Visitors can explore local markets, sample Isan cuisine, and experience a more laid-back, less crowded atmosphere than Thailand’s major tourist centers.
With favorites like Wat Pa Khao Noi, King Rama I Monument, and ตำกระเทยบุรีรัมย์ Tumkratoei (Buriram), we’ll make sure you don’t miss out on all the must sees. We even included some of our favorite food spots around the area, like ตำกระเทยบุรีรัมย์ Tumkratoei (Buriram) and The Tower Cafe & Hangout so you can get the best taste of Buriram while you’re here. To see our full list of food recommendations, check out our best restaurants post. If you're traveling on a budget, you can check out our cheap eats post.

Khao Kradong Forest Park, situated on a former volcano just 10km from Buriram City, offers a serene escape with the highlight being the impressive Buddha statue, Phra Suphatbophit. Visitors can enjoy a leisurely walk through the peaceful forest and take in panoramic views of the town from the summit. The park also features attractions such as Si Lai Der slide, a long bridge, a large lagoon, and an entrance to the extinct volcano.
A good place to visit and study the geology of the non-erupting volcano in Thailand. There are many iconic places to visit especially to see the sunset and Buddha Statue on the top of the mountain.
Pum V — Google review
Worth the climb to see the Buddha and views, the walk down to the crater wasn't really worth it to be honest. I may have missed some bits to see though? There are refreshments at the bottom and top, which are pretty standard, plus some other stalls down the bottom. I round advise not climbing this in yhe midday sun! You can ride scooter up but road was closed when I visited.
Shane C — Google review
Nice views once you have walked up the stairs. Moderate climb to get there. Maybe a little run down. There’s some souvenir shops and clean amenities on top near the monument. Some construction going on, could be more viewing platforms being added.
Matt S — Google review
Nice park with a nice view at boedha, is on een old volcano, drive up, park walk around, the doing some maintenance but entrance is free and a nice park
P W — Google review
Apart from the volcano and Buddha statue, there wasn't much to see. There was a lot of construction when I went. There's an outdoor café near the Buddha statue that's worth visiting.
Nika W — Google review
Giant Buddha, the respectable Buddha of Buriram people, is located on the top of the hill. You can go there by driving or walking up the stairs. Sightseeing the town from there, playing a local slide called Si Lai Der (warning : if the slide is wet, it goes too fast), walking through a long bridge, visiting a huge lagoon and a volcano entrance. Great place to visit.
Natty J — Google review
Fabulous views across buriram, the monument of Buddha is beautiful looking over buriram..we got a bus up to the monument and to the bridge for the volcano.it was very hot and humid but worth the visit..we had noodles 🍜 soup and cola at a restaurant at the bottom and it was the best noodles 🍜 soup I've had in Thailand in 2 weeks, aroy mak mak 😊.
David P — Google review
This is a nice place to visit, very peaceful. The steps up to the monument aren't too bad, but if you are unable to walk, you can drive to the top. We also walked around the road and to the suspension bridge over the volcano. If you are thirsty or hungry, there are plenty of small stores/restaurants at the bottom and a couple at the top.

Visit 19th March 2022. One of the top Wats of Buriram. Plenty of parking. Admire the structure from the outside but visit the shrine on the first level and the Museum at the back on ground level. Great artwork.

A reproduction of a Khmer style temple rather than an ancient site. Beautifully presented and worth a visit. Close to Buriram city if you have transport
Tony G — Google review
. This temple has Khmer style architecture, plus artwork and is surrounded by beautiful greenery. - Close to town, easy parking and just great for a short visit, while out and about exploring the area.
Coffee T — Google review
Different temple in Buriram area. I didn't go in, location is quite good - peaceful area surrounded by forest with some buildings. Just be careful as there are quite a few dogs running around - we went to the car park off to the left as you drive up to the temple, to look around the trees and 3 dogs, one quite aggressive ran towards us.
Simon J — Google review
Beautiful temple a few minutes down the road from Khao Kradong, very quiet and peaceful place, Khmer style temple with a very beautiful interior. When we visited we were there alone. Free entry.

Buriram Castle is a captivating destination that seamlessly combines traditional Khmer architecture with contemporary design, creating a visually stunning experience. The complex features well-maintained gardens, water features, and cultural exhibits that offer insight into the local heritage. Visitors can explore numerous shops, restaurants, and an outdoor market while enjoying the serene atmosphere. The nighttime illumination adds a magical touch to the castle, making it ideal for evening strolls.
Free to visit venue between the Football Stadium on one side and the Chang international circuit on the other. Combining this with watching some motor racing makes a nice day out. The central area has a number of chain restaurants. The tropical gardens here, along with the Khmer replica temple, are a very nice addition to this venue.
Miles M — Google review
Also known as Phanom Rong replica (if not mistaken). Very small, not much to walk around nor see. But it gives a sense of peacefulness in the wee hours of the morning. Can’t imagine the heat during the day.
Jasmine L — Google review
Nice place. Great atmosphere. Coming around sunset, you will see a really wonderful view. Free of charge for the entrance fee.
Natty J — Google review
Buriram Castle, right next to Chang International Circuit and Thunder Castle Stadium, is a chill spot to unwind before or after a race or football match. It’s not a real ancient ruin, but a nicely done modern replica of a Khmer-style temple, surrounded by clean walkways, flower gardens, botanic gardens, murals (must see), and little food stalls that come alive in the evening. You’ll find cafes, souvenir shops, and even a cactus garden, all in a calm, open-air setting. It’s great for snapping a few photos, grabbing a bite, or just taking a break from the heat—though come in the late afternoon if you don’t want to melt in the sun. Super easy to access, free to enter, and worth the hour or so it takes to walk around.
Yalçın Ö — Google review
Nice place to visit and grab a bite to eat from the shops nearby.
Dave — Google review
Very simple attraction next to the Chang International Circuit, and worth checking out if you're already planning on being in the area. While I like the scenery, I don't feel it's worth a visit in its own right but rather as a side trip as it was for me since I'm attending the Thai Moto GP at the Circuit. Visit during early morning or evening, during the day the heat can lack of any shade can be quite brutal.
Matt M — Google review
An interesting replica of ancient Khmer temples. Not very busy. The adjoining gardens are well worth a visit. There is a small shopping area with restaurants, a drug store, ATMs, and a Buriram United FC outlet store and other local shops.
Fredric P — Google review
Interesting place to walk around all the area has some nice lighting in the evenings. There are a few places to eat but the time we were there it was a little quiet parking was easy as the car park was so big but a few extra light would be welcome

Buriram Night Market Street Food

Night market
Buriram Night Market Street Food offers a delightful experience for those looking to enjoy the local culinary scene. While Buriram may not boast the vibrant nightlife of larger cities like Phuket or Pattaya, its night markets provide a charming alternative. The main market on Romburi Road features an array of street vendors serving up delicious pre-made meals at wallet-friendly prices, with dishes like coconut and pad Thai being popular choices.
Local food and cheap drinks, chilled atmosphere ☺️
Dennis D — Google review
My first visit to this night market near the Stadium. Surprisingly the place was pretty empty, lots of parking, plenty of empty tablets. Typical Thai Street food at an affordable price. Some food like coconut only cost 25Baht. The pad Thai is very nice, but the crab fried rice is just so so. Unfortunately the fried chicken leg were bad. It was a fun visit with a quick meal.

Very nice night market, it's large enough to find a variety of street food, and it has lots of tables & chairs to sit and eat. It worth visiting it if you're in Buriram and you like street food. One of the best night markets in the city (another one is Walking street but it's open only on weekends).

Monuments & Statues
Located in Buriram, the King Rama I Monument is a bronze statue dedicated to the founder of the city who is depicted riding a war elephant. The monument is situated near a major traffic circle where visitors can park and make a small donation to inscribe their wishes on metal charms that can be hung at the base of the statue. At night, it's particularly impressive due to its lighting structures, which creates an incredible atmosphere when walking through them.
What a sight to behold. The majesty statue of King Rama and his war elephant stands proud in the middle of the roundabout!! The decorative lightings around it intensify it's presence!!! Great Instagram spot! One shall not miss when in the area. P.s pls use the zebra crossing from the open air restaurant!!
Jerrick L — Google review
Impressive sculpture. I think that you can get up close and personal but it is situated on a busy roundabout. Rather than take my chances with the traffic, I decided to admire it from different angles across the road.
Tony G — Google review
What a beautiful roundabout. The monument is quite fantastic a real sight to behold. If anything it's a little distracting whilst driving.
Daisy D — Google review
Fantastic at night when all lit up. Very beautiful all located on a large roundabout. Definitely worth a visit at night.
BB 6 — Google review
Beautiful… just beautiful. Especially after the sun goes down and all the lights are turned on. The monument is situated in the middle of a very busy roundabout so be cautious when crossing the street. I think this is one of the must see things in Buri Ram so I will give this place my recommendations and time

Beautiful Statue & Decor honoring King Rama I, very pretty in the evening with the lighting. It's very easy to view while driving and if you're staying in Buriram it's a helpful landmark.

One of my favorite restaurants in Buriram. Convenient location with both indoor and outdoor seating. Their variety of Isaan dishes is excellent. Service is always fast and the food delicious.

Specializing in native Thai food, the food tastes rather exotic. According to the locals, the food here are rather spicy, but personally, I don't think it is. Nice experience, get to try something different. For example, they don't eat with white rice but will pair it with sticky rice. And my favorite is the corn salad 😍

The layout and atmosphere of this place is excellent. You can stay downstairs and enjoy your order in the air conditioned room. Or you can head up the winding stairs and choose to sit in the 2 levels above. We came in the day time. At night it would be very interesting. The washroom on the main floor at the back is one of the cleanest you will find in Thailand. Service was friendly and drinks arrived quickly. One drink was excellent. The other lacked something but was still okay. Will return again.
