San Juan in 1 day

If you only have 1 day to spend in San Juan, we’ve narrowed down the top places you should check out to get the best experience of your time here.
San Juan on Siquijor Island is known for its clear waters, coral-rich marine sanctuaries, and laid-back beach resorts facing spectacular sunsets over the Bohol Sea. Visitors base themselves here to explore nearby attractions like Cambugahay Falls, century-old churches, and coastal caves around the island. The town’s coastal strip offers easy access to snorkeling and diving spots where you can see vibrant reef life. Simple seaside bars and guesthouses give the area a relaxed, small-island atmosphere that contrasts with busier Philippine beach destinations.
With favorites like Maite Marine Sanctuary, 5F5V+G94, and Marelle's Seashell Museum, we’ll make sure you don’t miss out on all the must sees. We even included some of our favorite food spots around the area, like Chekesh Casa and Get Wrecked Beach & Sports Bar so you can get the best taste of San Juan while you’re here. To see our full list of food recommendations, check out our best restaurants post. If you're traveling on a budget, you can check out our cheap eats post.

The Old Enchanted Balete Tree in Siquijor is a must-visit destination for travelers seeking a unique experience. This 400-year-old tree offers a captivating aura of mystery and wonder, providing a cool shade against the hot weather. Visitors can enjoy the fish spa at the base of the tree, where little fish nibble away at dead skin, creating a delightful and refreshing sensation.
passed by today & decided to stop in. 20₽ entry fee pp. you can sit by the pool & the fish will nibble at your feet (if that tickles your fancy, i wasn’t too into it). the tree itself was beautiful! just beware there are lots of tourists here & the queue to take a picture by the tree was very long! there’s a gift shop here & restaurant as well
Allison H — Google review
Just walked in before we went back to our hotel in San Juan. Entrance fee is P30, great place to have toilet break, refreshments or buy souvenirs. There were few crowds when we arrived. The Balete Tree was truly majestic and big. We did not attempt to try the fish foot spa due to hygiene issues. Parking available.
Ai B — Google review
The place was great! It's only 20php to enter the pond area. There's plenty of souvenir shops filled with local and mystical goods. There's also a load/wi-fi machine and a decent restaurant upstairs with some really creamy shakes. There's something heavy-of-nature in the air while being in the tree's presence. Highly recommended.
Aaron M — Google review
A place to visit if you’re passing. 20 Peso entry per person to see the tree which is quite cool. There is also a fish spa but we didn’t try it due to the hygiene of fish spas. They unfortunately also had some dogs in small cages and blocked a lot of the fish from swimming freely in the water. Overall the tree and all its history is cool but the rest feels a bit unnecessary.
Olly S — Google review
Entrance fee is 20 Motorbike Parking fee is 5php There was a foul smell when we went there but the area is clean, went here on a weekday so not too crowded. Fish spa is ticklish not for everyone (lol) There are stores to buy souvenirs from
Phoebe J — Google review
I thought that I would just end up staying here for a few minutes but I ended up staying here for over an hour. While the area is relatively small it's incredibly relaxing and there's just something so alluring about the tree. Of course there were plenty of people putting their feet in the water and having them nibbled on by the fish, I have to say at first it's a little difficult to get used to but after a couple minutes it's actually quite relaxing. There are many shops outside for snacks and drinks and basic stuff. The area is also incredibly well shaded making it a great place to relax and escape some of the heat. This is absolutely on the top of the things to do at siquijor.
Jeremy B — Google review
Great spot to play tourist. The Balete tree towers overhead as you sit dangling your feet in the water to have the fish nibble at them. Restaurant on second floor will keep you happy
Brad H — Google review
This stop is perfect if you want a blend of nature, culture, and a quirky spa experience all rolled into one. It’s easy to include in a larger tour around Siquijor—just maybe visit on a weekday or early in the day to soak in the magic in peace. I’d say it’s a solid 4/5 experience—a delightful blend of enchantment without breaking the budget. Waterfalls
Lugnason Falls is a serene and picturesque waterfall located in the municipality of San Juan in Siquijor. It is known for its natural beauty, peaceful atmosphere, and impressive cascade of water plunging from approximately 5 meters. Unlike the more popular Cambugahay Falls, Lugnason Falls offers a hidden gem with a beautiful 5-minute hike through the jungle to reach its silky blue waters.
went at 10am and there were only a few people here(mostly locals)! we did not use a guide, and did just fine. the waterfall was beautiful & we continued on to the ‘lagoon’ which looked to be like a good spot to hang out! ₽20 pp for entry
Allison H — Google review
This was an incredible experience. There's a 20 pesos per person entry fee, which is more than reasonable, and the staff at the entrance were really friendly. They explained that we could go down by ourselves to see the first (biggest) waterfall, or we could have a tour guide who would show us the other 12 waterfalls further up the river. We chose to have a tour guide, and Lewis (Louis - sorry if we spelled it wrong!) was wonderful. He told us so much about the falls and the history of how they were named. Every waterfall was so beautiful and the water nice and refreshing. Lewis helped us up through the waterfalls, some of which are quite tricky, but was great at offering alternative routes if they seemed too tricky or dangerous. I know why the Cambugahay Falls are famous, but the Lugnason falls should be on people's radar during a visit to Siquijor. It's an experience we'll never forget. Thank you Lewis for a great day!

This is my third time in siquijor but my first time at these falls. This place is awesome and only 20p to enter with free parking. Lots of tourists and locals having fun here. There’s a rope swing as well if you dare. The water is fresh, clean and cool. There’s a short 3-5 minute hike to the falls. I think you can rent safety vest and water shoes. I will probably come back tomorrow. Highly recommended
SICILIAN-AMERICAN — Google review
Do not miss these falls!!! Some of the best on the island, make sure you get a guide so you can visit the 12 other falls. It was an amazing experience climbing up each set of falls and swimming and we had it all to ourselves. Even the main falls was hardly busy. You only have to pay 20peso for parking and then you tip your guide. Tip generously as the experience is unreal!! You can also hire water shoes and life jackets if you need to. We just wore water shoes and it was fine. Hugely recommend!!
Kaitlyn M — Google review
Definitely worth a visit! You’ll mostly find locals enjoying the area, especially taking turns jumping off the swing near the waterfall. It’s a lovely spot, and the small entrance fee is reasonable. If you follow the pathway further, you’ll come across a natural “swimming pool” area. When we visited, it was mainly occupied by locals, so we opted for a relaxing walk instead of a swim. A peaceful little adventure with a nice local feel.
Kylie M — Google review
Great experience! We first started with cool and big jumps at the big waterfall and after you can climb up all the other waterfalls (this is only possible with a guide). I would highly recommend doing a tour with a guide. The tip at the end was voluntary and based on what you felt the tour was worth. Our guide was super patient, friendly, helpful and took a lot of great pictures. Thank you Oscar for the lovely afternoon!!
Jessica N — Google review
Was there today, fantastic!! I did the 2 public areas (falls at the bottom of the trail and then the spring/diversion channel downstream). Then I hired a young guide to show me the other 12 falls. That tour is not for the faint of heart or if you are scared of climbing up the waterfalls with no safety gear! I’m 60 and thought I was somewhat capable (rode a mountain bike from the main road up to the falls), but my legs were a bit weak from the pedal up and I got a bit stuck trying to go up the center of one of the falls as the water was flowing so strong, so the guide had to lay down in the stream above me to divert the flow and then I was able to pull myself up with the vine hanging over the river! Got a bit of a rug burn on one leg. I’m not sure if the guide thought I was in better shape than I was, perhaps for less agile visitors there are jungle trails around so you don’t have to walk up the actual falls…? It was very cool (after surviving the challenge 😬), fortunately the other falls were not too bad. It was a very cool and wet experience, a must do if you like adventure….! Also, when I got back to the resort (25 minute pedal ride up and a 10 minute ride down), I realized the zip lock bag with my driver’s license and a small amount of money had fallen out of my pocket as I was riding the bike back. So I hired a Tuk Tuk and we went back to the falls hoping to see it along the way. We don’t see anything until we got back to the falls entrance and we asked the Tourist Police if they had seen it. Fortunately the folks running the falls fee station had it!!! Oh happy days!!! 🤗 I asked if I should give them a reward and the police fellow said no. Be sure to put this experience on your list!!

Top 3 waterfalls during my time on Siquijor/Cebu, very nice. This waterfall has the highest rope swing and jumps on Siquijor (that tourists can do) which are located at the main falls, they are about 10-12 metres for both the swing and the jumps. I did the extra tour which is different to other canyoning/canyoneering tours in that you will be climbing up the falls all the way to the top rather than going down and jumping. You start at the main falls, do the jumps and rope swings, then go upstream. During the walk up there is a few smaller jumps, water massages etc. There are some sinkholes and stuff to watch out for. They maintain the waterfalls and are opening up the tracks to go even further up the waterfall system. It was awesome here. The Browne Town.

Marelle's Seashell Museum is a must-visit attraction with an impressive display of diverse marine life specimens. The museum offers a unique glimpse into the world of seashells, showcasing various species that have been meticulously preserved. The gift shop also offers one-of-a-kind mother-of-pearl items for sale. Visitors can expect ample things to see and explore, guided by friendly and knowledgeable staff who are readily available to answer any queries.
Loved the chicken inasal and boneless chicken kebab. Prices are sulit for the portion of the food. The shell museum is worth the visit while waiting for the food to be served.

The museum has an entrance fee, but if you dine in at the restaurant, you can enter for free. It might look like a small room at first, but don’t underestimate it—they have an impressive and extensive collection. I found it really educational and thoroughly enjoyed my time there!
Chris — Google review
Absolute loved this place, the staff is super friendly and reliable with heaps is information in regards of the seashells. She was so kind to freely explain and give us a little tour on all that the museum offers. Not only the seashells were gorgeous and very well kept, but also they have a souvenir section which is also really well looked after and displayed. We also had a coffee and a mango shake after touring around the museum and they were both amazing. We will definitely be back for dinner to try out what their menu offers.
Rebecca P — Google review
Museum entrance fee is ₱100 per head. They have a lot of interesting collection on their display! If you love marine life this will be interesting for you. The place is quite small, just a single room and everything is in there. They also sell souvenirs like bags made our of seashells, shirts, ref magnets, jewelry made of seashells.

A small but great little spot in Siquijor. We stopped here for a drink in their restaurant which was very good. We didn’t eat but the food looked and smelt great too. The museum is small but packed full of shells and small sea creatures definitely worth a visit. Entry is 100 Peso per adult but free if you are a customer of the restaurant. Edit: we returned here and ate as we were passing. The food is excellent and very good portion sizes for the price

Title: Small but cute sea shell museum with an integrated restaurant + Kind and smiling staff + A lot of shells and sea food to see 😁 + You can buy interesting souvenirs + The garden is nice. Parking place is no problem + Very well lit + Restaurant integrated - A little too small you are within 15 minutes done - 100php entry fee is a little too expensive - No aircon, most fans was off ************************** Explanation of my votings + Pro - Contra o Only for your information 5 Stars: It was really special, you must try it 4 Stars: It was nice, you should try it 3 Stars: Nothing special, you could try it 2 Stars: Try only if you have no alternative 1 Stars: Bad, don't bother trying ->>> To understand... Why do I give 5 stars so rarely? Out of over 365 reviews, I realised that there are no businesses that are 100% perfect. I rate businesses in relation to an area, such as a city and the surrounding area. Most businesses in an area sell similar products of different qualities, and I rate these products up to a maximum of 4 stars. Therefore, I decided to give 5 stars if a business in this region has a unique selling point. This could be a unique product, an awesome view, or cosy surroundings that set them apart from other businesses in the area. Even if their products are not perfect, I can still give a five-star rating if there is something special about them. ->>>

We visited on a Monday afternoon, so there were no customers except us. The waitress was very kind and accommodating. Food took about 30 mins or so to arrive. Food was pretty okay. Not exceptional, but not bad either. It was filling, but the taste is not what we expected. Great presentation though. HUGE SERVINGS! We were not able to finish it all. We joked that we could have just ordered the sweet and sour pork (not pictured) and ordered extra rice and plates since the serving seemed like it was for sharing. The seashell museum is a must-see! It was really amazing to see all the different kinds of marine life preserved. The gift shop sold unique mother-of-pearl items also. Overall a great experience!

The Maite Marine Sanctuary offers a diverse range of marine life, including impressive and sizable fish such as the clownfish. However, it lacks an abundance of vibrant and well-preserved coral formations. The variable tide requires caution in choosing where to stand. This marine reserve is truly remarkable for snorkeling, showcasing beautiful corals and exemplifying the extensive biodiversity found on a reed in the Philippines.
This marine sanctuary boasts a beautiful coral garden for day and night diving.

I went there to just check out the place . Lots of weeds at the shoreline. Some people were scuba diving & snorkeling. So I just swam, wade, & play in the water. It was fun !! Didn’t see any fish though unlike Paliton. Looked ordinary to me. Just gave a donation.

Dive into Siquijor’s hidden gem at Maite Marine Sanctuary! 🐠🐟 Our adventure started bright and early at 7 AM, where we were warmly welcomed by Mam Evelyn Malicay. Our guide, Rodrigo Parahili (aka Diego), took us on an unforgettable freediving tour, even exploring an underwater cave! 💸 Fees: Entrance: 100 pesos Guide: 250 pesos (absolutely worth it!) Life Jacket: 50 pesos Fins Rental: 50 pesos The crystal-clear waters were teeming with vibrant marine life, making it a dream spot for water lovers. Freediving here was a highlight—just remember to take care of the corals. A few more hooks for ropes could help protect the marine life even more. 🌿 Whether you're an experienced diver or a casual snorkeler, Maite Marine Sanctuary is a must-visit spot in Siquijor! 🐚 #MaiteMarineSanctuary #SiquijorAdventures #FreedivingExperience #ExploreSiquijor #HagpoksTravelVlog #MarineLifePhilippines #UnderwaterWonders #TravelPhilippines #MarineConservation

Went at high tide. 350 pp to snorkle with guide. Two people per guide. Saw 2 turtles and many large coral formations. Not as many fish as some of the other santuaries. Suspect spear fisherman sneaking in and taking any large fish. For what we pay. They should keep the fisherman out.

A very beautiful place with a variety of fish rarely found elsewhere (not so many turtles though). Definitely worth a snorkeling session 👍

Super nice people. It‘s 100 pesos per person and you can rent a snorkel + mask for 50 pesos if you need it. I‘m usually mor into diving but the corals at this place were so beautiful! We saw lots of different fish and the locals told us you can spot some seaturtles if you‘re lucky.

Supposed to be a managed beach. Instead there's a plastic hose sticking out of the sand literally next to the person collecting fees. I accidentally stepped on it, got a huge gash in my foot and the guy didn't care at all that there's a dangerous plastic at the beach even when I showed him the problem. Be careful.

Chekesh Casa in Siquijor is a fantastic place to stay, offering excellent service and comfortable accommodations. Food itself tasted fine, not bad, but there were other issues that ruined the experience. First off the lasy serving was very confused and unsure, and clearly inexperienced, though i feel bad saying that as she was obviously trying her hardest. Had to retell multiple times what we wanted before she got it all down. We were then told the food would be a 20 minute wait, which is no issue if it actually took that long. After about 10-15 we got our coffee and tea, and it was missing the milk and sugar we requested with it. Had to ask again to get it. Girlfriend asked if the milk is an extra charge the server didn't even know if it was or not. Then finally after at least another 20 minutes or so my order came out first, the American breakfast. It was barely warm and had clearly just been sitting for a while before being served to me. The bacon was overcooked as it can get before being burnt, "toast" was barely toasted, and plate was missing the banana that was supposed to come with it. Had to ask 3 times before the banana came out. Girlfriends food came out a few minutes after mine and also was not hot either. Maybe we just got unlucky with the staff on at the time but I would not recommend getting breakfast here.
Reid B — Google review
Overpriced and disappointing (maybe just a bad day) We chose this restaurant in Siquijor because of the many positive reviews, despite the high prices clearly aimed at tourists. We ordered noodles and their signature fish with potatoes. The noodles were quite bland, and several of the potatoes were undercooked or had a strong, unpleasant taste—almost like spoiled fish (maybe they had been in contact with something off in the kitchen). The fish itself was good, but overall the dish was disappointing. Maybe it was just a bad day, but at these prices, you expect better. If you charge high prices, the quality should match. That said, the service was very friendly—I hope this review helps them improve!

Excellent value for money. Rooms have aircon, fridge, jug. Garden is lovely. Owners are friendly. I only had breakfast in the restaurant. The food prepared early in the morning for the locals is pretty good. The restaurant is too close to the noisy road and has too little airflow making it too hot later in the day. You can also rent motor scooters here. Highly recommended.

While not boasting the best taste, their affordable shakes make them an attractive option on this island.

Very loud music, dirty toilets, and not so great food. It’s owned by someone foreign, but all the workers are Filipino. They are - as always - very nice, very polite, and very helpful. It’s full of middle aged foreign men and their Filipino girlfriends/wife’s/dates 😂 We had fun because of how odd it was to be in a bar like this in an island in the Philippines. We left after we finished our food and drinks.

Nestled in the heart of San Juan, right by the beach, Aroi Makmak Thai Station Cafe and Restaurant is a delightful surprise waiting to be discovered. While its exterior may seem modest, stepping inside reveals a charming patio that offers breathtaking sunset views. This eatery specializes in authentic Thai cuisine that bursts with flavor; their Red Thai Curry comes highly recommended for those seeking a spicy kick.
If I could give more than five stars I would!!! Went here for lunch on a Tuesday so there wasn't much of a crowd at all, we were seated right away and the service was amazing. Ms. Rachel (I don't know if I'm spelling this right sorry!!!) was so friendly and attentive. I tried the pad thai, tom yum, papaya salad, chicken satay, and the coconut juice. Everything was phenomenal, and the servings were very generous for the price. I love that they let you pick the spice levels for the dishes. For me the star was the pad thai! So good.

Dining at Aroi Makmak was definitely a savory experience. It stood to its hype, and it did not disappoint. One of my current favorite food stops in Siquijor. First off, we were given a great welcome once we entered the establishment. They were cheerful and really gave a positive vibe. The server was also very kind. She was able to answer the questions that we had and also gave recommendations. They were also very attentive. Their wait time was also accurate. Now, the food was definitely delicious. It had the aroma, spice and taste you are looking for in Thai dishes. My favorite was the Pad Thai. It didn't matter if I was somewhat sweating from the spiciness of it, I was still eating because I really loved its taste (you can have a non-spicy option too if you want, I believe). The other dishes were also tasty. The servings were also big enough to fill your stomach and even share with others. Aroi Makmak also has a great dining place. It has an outdoor seating where you can see the sea and somewhat feel its breeze. I do not know if it was because we were a large group (for a small table, but not too large for a large table) but our table was sort of crowded when the dishes arrived, so we were limited in terms of mobility. We were able to eat our food, so it was good, nonetheless. Aroi Makmak is sulit and definitely worth your time.

One of our favorite restos in San Juan. Food was so yummy and serving was big. Servers were attentive and friendly. Dining area is by the beach. Highly recommended!

The food was just “okay”, but the place itself is nice and has a pleasant atmosphere. I didn’t take any photos since the dishes looked a bit too plain, they could definitely improve on the presentation to make it more appetizing. On the bright side, the staff were friendly and accommodating, and the overall vibe of the place was relaxing. Edit: I saw photos from other reviews where the dishes were beautifully presented with flowers and vegetable garnishes, but ours didn’t have any. Maybe it’s because we came close to closing time, so the presentation wasn’t quite the same. Still, the food tasted okay.

It gets really busy but the staff do their best to accommodate everyone. Has authentic Thai taste. Great for someone who loves Thai food and spicy dishes.

A fantastic spot for very tasty Thai food. Service is quick and the waitress is super friendly. If you like Thai food and are in Siquior then this is a place for you.

10 out of 10 for this restaurant. The staff are some of the most attentive and friendly I've experienced in Phillipines. The food was really tasty, good size portions and reasonably priced for what you got. The decor and lovely setting made it a really enjoyable experience.

Staff are very nice. Location is seaside, perfect for sunset. A little windy so we moved from open area to the terrace. No provision for parking, just street side.

We are staying at this Resort right now! Me and my husband was really amazed on the Bali Indonesia vibes.. Not only that, the staffs are all polite and accommodating. Our first choice was Coco Grove Resort but I decided finally here at U Story Resort and we didn’t failed of our decision 🫶🏻♥️ More story to tell on our friends abroad and recommendations on this Resort. 😊

We stayed here for three nights and we could not ask for more of this experience. The three rooms we had were all beautiful, clean, spacious and cool. The exterior bathrooms were astounding! The staff was extremely kind and professional. They have direct access to the beach where we had the chance to spot a sea turtle just off-shore. Amazing place to stay!

Stayed here for four days during October. The resort was a peaceful place to relax and use as a base to explore Siquijor by bike and scooter. There are many huts of varying sizes connected by sand paths amongst lush vegetation. The main hub is the restaurant, bar and pool area that overlooks the ocean. It feels cosy and relaxing with attentive staff who always have a smile and are happy to help. Really enjoyed the variety and quality of the food, juices and cocktails here. Numerous sun lounges and hammocks provide opportunities to snooze and dream your day away, or you can hire snorkel gear and scooters to explore the island. There is excellent snorkeling not far away. Also on Sunday night there was a DJ by the pool which made for a very fun evening.

Booked is hotel as soon as a read a review that there's cats in the resort ❤️. Very peaceful, clean, friendly staffs.. special thanks to Ms Sharon for helping me organized a special room set up ❤️. Recommended to request a room near to the reception would be nice. It's bigger than a room, I could call it a villa.. has sea access but dangerous if strong waves, we just use the pool. Only accepts Cash or Gcash. Fast starlink internet 👍

Stayed for a night. Even when I moved to another place, I still come here for lunch and sunsets . Beautiful resort. Well manicured and clean. And the food is top tier. The ladies in the restaurants were attentive, warm, and efficient. Well-priced as well. Reasonable. Will stay again.

Fantastic. Food and drink, brilliant, various, and authentic. Staff attentive, but fun loving and genuine. Management slick, hands off accomodating and generous. Facilities, beautiful new pool, charming restaurant, dive off the stone steps into the warm clear sea; rooms, lovely, COLD fridge/minibar, gorgeous out door shower, AC/fan/bug zapper. U Story Resort has class.
