Mestre in 1 day

If you only have 1 day to spend in Mestre, we’ve narrowed down the top places you should check out to get the best experience of your time here.
Mestre is the mainland gateway to Venice, offering easy, frequent transport to the historic center at generally lower hotel and restaurant prices. It’s a practical base for exploring the lagoon while staying in a more everyday Italian city with local shops, markets and parks. The central Piazza Ferretto area has a pedestrian zone, cafes and a few historic buildings, and nearby San Giuliano Park provides broad views across the water toward Venice.
With favorites like Unico Ristorante Pizzeria Mestre, Ca' Mestre, and Forte Marghera, we’ll make sure you don’t miss out on all the must sees. We even included some of our favorite food spots around the area, like Filanda Grill Garden and Unico Ristorante Pizzeria Mestre so you can get the best taste of Mestre while you’re here. To see our full list of food recommendations, check out our best restaurants post. If you're traveling on a budget, you can check out our cheap eats post.

Nave de Vero is a bustling and contemporary mall that opened in 2014, offering over 38,000 square feet of space filled with major brand-name shops, restaurants, and a large grocery store. It's the perfect place to indulge in some serious retail therapy. The mall features Italian high-street favorites like Primadonna, Piazza Italia, and Intimissimi, offering quality clothing at affordable prices.
I recently visited Nave de Vero and had an exceptional experience! This shopping center offers a wonderful blend of modern design and a welcoming atmosphere, making it a great destination for a day out. The variety of stores is impressive, catering to all tastes and needs. From high-end fashion boutiques to popular retail chains, there's something for everyone. The layout is spacious and well-organized, making it easy to navigate and enjoy a leisurely shopping experience. Dining at Nave de Vero is also a highlight. The food court offers a diverse selection of cuisines, ensuring that there’s always something delicious to try, whether you’re in the mood for a quick bite or a more relaxed meal. The entertainment options are top-notch as well. The cinema provides a great way to unwind after a day of shopping, and there are often events and activities that add to the lively atmosphere. Parking is convenient and ample, which is always a plus. The staff throughout the mall are friendly and helpful, adding to the overall positive experience. In summary, Nave de Vero is a fantastic place to shop, dine, and relax. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a comprehensive and enjoyable shopping destination.
Clemson T — Google review
This mall was clean and well-laid out, with two stories. It featured a few popular American stores. The parking was all one-way, so I parked closest to the door. However, you can’t cross the street there; you have to walk to the right, cross at the crosswalk, and then go left to the entrance. So, if you think you’re parking close to the entrance, double-check. I left with what I came for, and also had a great cappuccino above Grom upstairs at the little cafe stand.
Sarah M — Google review
Nave de Vero is one of the best shopping centres I’ve visited! You can find absolutely everything here — from fashion and tech to home goods and cosmetics. The place is spacious, clean, and very well organized. The food court is fantastic, with a wide variety of options for every taste and budget. Perfect spot for shopping, eating, or just spending a nice afternoon!
Mohamed F — Google review
Great place to buy clothes and restaurants food but don't come here for a supermarket for food or other stuff is pretty much a girls all shopping center with only one electric shop
Willbj01 — Google review
Very good shopping mall with different brands and prices, you can either find high quality of branded clothes and buy cheaper clothes for less than 20€ The last floor is a food court with good food options.
Hastyar T — Google review
Very good shopping mall, big and many brands. But I do suggest a designer outlet near Venice that one also worth a shot.
Negin G — Google review
Very good shopping mall. Good choice of shops (most of popular brands) for any budget. On 2nd floor food court.
Hannah C — Google review
Shopping anyone? this shopping mall ends the holiday for a lot of people as it's the last visit before Treviso airport. spacious and nice to go around with a good selection of quality shops.

Forte Marghera, a 19th-century fortress with a distinctive star-shaped layout, has been transformed into a vibrant cultural hub. Situated near Mestre and the canal that once linked it to the lagoon, this former military stronghold now hosts art exhibitions, live music events, DJ sets, workshops, and festivals. During summer (except Mondays), it buzzes with social gatherings. The surrounding green spaces provide relaxation and outdoor activities.
Great place to enjoy a peaceful nature. There are cafes places, playground etc. You can bring and feed/donate food to kitties, there is a volunteer organisation, which takes care of them (Associazione 'Mici del Forte' - Organizzazione di volontariato), on the left after the bridge.
Alexandra M — Google review
A nice lively place with a lot of options to hang out. Within the fort, there is a street with restaurants and bars and open air stages for live performances. Some of the restaurants also show live football matches. Overall a pleasant experience.
Bhavook B — Google review
So much fun and so many cats! It's a historical site so it's good to walk around and take pictures on the venetian sun, but also on one area there is a bar / grill with seating and music. But more importantly there were lots of cats! Will absolutely go again, but due to it being on the water there were a lot of mosquitoes so I would make sure to bring repellent or at least have bite cream for afterwards.
Kyriakos C — Google review
Cute cats but also a lot of mosquitos unfortunately. The views were nice and the place overall was very chill
Pekka M — Google review
We visited here mainly due to the cats. When we arrived, nothing was open. It was deserted except for some workmen cutting grass. We saw 5 cats. It was a long way to walk to see only 5 cats! We were very disappointed. What we didn't know was that a lot of places in Italy are closed on Monday. The Fort is open, but everything else isn't.
Joanna C — Google review
Perfect for relaxation! There are a few bars and restaurants on the one side, and just nature in the other side. It's worth a visit, especially in the last day of your trip when you want to refresh from Venice island's frenzy
Eliana V — Google review
Wow! An old fort that's open to the public. There's a stage, restaurants, a café, multiple art studios, and a cat rescue inside with tons of kitties! It is extremely fun and I wish we had more time to hang out. Best of all, it has a "locals" feel. Go visit and enjoy!!

Shopping mall
The Le Barche Mall is a pet-friendly, air-conditioned shopping mall with Italian and international brands, as well as a kids' play area. It's located in the heart of Mestre, and has a great selection of stores on offer, including Mango, Swarovski, H&M and GameStop. The bookstore-cum-cafe on top floor offers great views of the city from its terrace.
There's a great bar (5 stars) on the top floor together with a big Feltrinelli library. Unfortunately there's no parking available in the facility and you have to navigate the surroundings to search for one.
Nicola F — Google review
A quite small mall located not far from the bus centrals. It has six floors but just a few shops with the highlight of the Lego exhibition on the fourth floor. Toilets are clean and easy to a access. What is quite nice about this mall is that it has a bistro at the sixth floor with outside seats too where they serve coffee and food and also a big book store next to it. People are nice, place was quite for a Saturday visit.
Iris A — Google review
Shopping Mall on 6 floors located in Mestre City Center. Mostly clothes, however, on the last floor the bookstore and bar are located.
Matej — Google review
This was a nice department store. The clothes were well made and evident in pricing. Although there were some reasonably priced item that were on sale
Sally S — Google review
This mall has several levels but not many shops inside. The supermarket on the lower level is quite pricey as is the department store that takes up most of the mall. Much better shops to look at by wandering around the city centre.
Fit L — Google review
Awfully boring :( only place to buy from is the foodstore at bottom floor
Emma S — Google review
A little bit outdated and needs to do something with branding to get a wider public and age. Who is talking is a shopping centre manager that open shopping centers i Russia and UK and branding is the most important thing to get the wider public. Store fittings are completely outdated and the navigation system really needs to be improved. I changed the navigation system in hyperstores and sales increased more than 30% within 6 weeks especially in the woman and children sections. Think about. Time to move forward. Last consideration it's the staff that needs a lot of attention. Needs new generations.

The cuisine at Filanda Grill Garden was satisfactory, although it would have been possible to complete the meal before the companion received theirs if immediate consumption had commenced. The ambiance was delightful, though sitting outside resulted in high temperatures. The alcoholic beverages were reasonably priced, and the Hugo cocktail stood out as exceptional!
Dare I say, this might be the best tiramisu in all of Venice. No need to debate—if you stumble upon this gem, walk in and prepare for one of the best meals of your life. Their tiramisu is pure perfection: rich, creamy, and just sweet enough without being overwhelming—a true testament to premium craftsmanship. But that’s not all. Their Hugo Spritz? Easily one of the best in the area, refreshing and expertly balanced. And the prices? Remarkably fair for the quality you’re getting. Honestly, even if they were double, I’d still give them 5 stars. I can’t emphasize enough how incredible the food is—I’d fly from North America just to experience it again! The staff are warm, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. Dining here isn’t just a meal; it’s a memory you’ll cherish.

We had a wonderful dining experience at this Italian bar and grill - the ambiance inside the restaurant was charming and welcoming, making it the perfect setting for a relaxing meal. Our server was fantastic, she spoke excellent English and was quick to take our order. The food was absolutely delicious, with the bruschetta being the best we have tasted since being in Italy. The spritzes were very affordable, and I tried both the Aperol and Hugo spritzes. When I asked if it was possible to have a raspberry spritz (even though it wasn’t on the menu), the waitress kindly made one up for me. It tasted amazing We will definitely return here if we’re ever back in Italy it’s a place worth revisiting!
Courtney — Google review
Went there as all nearby places were closed. Clearly a place targeted for tourists, with prices much higher than anything around. The food was original, and pretty good. The double hamburger is huge (19€). Good vegetarian selection. The big problem was that they didn't accept card payment. It might be that their card machine was really broken, but they should write it in the entrance, and not keep a small post-it only near the cashier, easy to hide.
Nicolò M — Google review
I had an absolutely fantastic time dining at Filanda Grill Garden. From the moment I arrived, the atmosphere was inviting and full of charm, a perfect setting for a relaxing meal. I ordered a burger, and I can confidently say it was nothing short of exceptional. Every element, from the perfectly grilled burger ,to the fresh, flavorful toppings and soft bun, was thoughtfully prepared and absolutely delicious. But what truly elevated the experience was the warmth and kindness of the staff. From the moment I walked in, I was met with genuine smiles and welcoming energy that made me feel instantly at home. It’s rare to find a place where the passion for food is matched by the heart behind the service. If you’re ever in Venezia, do yourself a favor and make this a stop. You won’t regret it.

Plenty choises in menu. Burrata with sauce was nice. Sliced beef and filetto steak was great, melting in mouth! Potatoe sider was so so and needed some nice sauce. Lucky perfect oliveoil and best balsamico ever covered situation. Mascarpone in tiramisu was delicious. Fast and polite service, prices was following the quality. We were pleased, specially because it was first good restaurant experience after 4 days in Venice 😅 thanks and warm recommendation.

Amazing food. We only had two nights in Mestre and we ate here both nights. The waitress was so lovely and accommodating. Thank you from the Australian Family.

It was one of the best restaurants in Mestre. It's in the city centre easy to approach and the whole vibe in the restaurant is very cosy but still very stylish. The food was extremly good we tried there some pasta and grilled beef and they were really delicious. The waiters were really kind. So i can only recommend this place.

By chance, stumbled upon this establishment near our hotel, avoiding the busy city center of Venice. Surprisingly, it turned out to be a delightful experience! In Venice, we had encountered exorbitant prices and dissatisfied family members at every table. However, here all four of us were content. The staff was friendly, the food was pleasant, and the location added extra value for its price. The pizza was superb with a delectable crust and generous toppings.
We were thoroughly impressed with Unico. The food quality is exceptional, with particularly delicious pasta, delightful fried calamari, and excellent pizza and salad. We discovered this gem while strolling through Marghera. Despite our initial low expectations based on its exterior, Unico exceeded them significantly.

Amazing pizzeria in Mestre! The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, perfect for a relaxing meal. The staff were very friendly, approachable, and easy to talk to. The place was clean and well-kept, which made the experience even better. The pizzas were delicious. I would definitely recommend this place and would happily come back again.

Honestly the best food I had in Venice by far!!! Not the usual pretentious italian touristy place you can find in the center. I love every meal. The pasta was delicious, perfectly prepared, beautiful presentation. The pizza was also delicious, the dough, everything! And the tiramisu is homemade, perfection. I recommend 100000%
Laure Z — Google review
Excellent food and it's a very nice place with patio seating as well as indoor. The staff was very nice and helpful.

Far better food-experience than Venice. We spent 3 days in Italy but visited this place twice. Excellent ingredients and meals, and the yellow cherry tomatoes are heaven. I highly recommend this place!
Horváth B — Google review
It was a blind booking, as it was the nearest restaurant to our hotel. Best choiche we could have made! Great staff, perfect food, it was more than 20 of us, still, we got our food served in like 10 minutes. There was a karaoke event as well, with all the italian energy and love if life, so , i strongly recommend the place!!!
Ferenc F — Google review
Staff was great, amazing, fast, curious, kind and fun. The pizza was good. The burger was below average from anything I have had in italy. A patty that was preformed, dry and reminded me of bad fast food frozen burgers from the 80’s. I kind of expected more from an Italian place.
Russ W — Google review
The restaurant was amazing! My family loved the food as it was our first time experiencing Italian food in Italy. The atmosphere of this place was very nice, clean and welcoming. I ordered Cacio e Pepe pizza. Absolutely delicious! My husband ordered something called Peperani? Unfortunately, he couldn’t remember as he enjoyed it as well. My kids had pasta ragu. We all were very satisfied with what we ordered.

Japanese restaurant
Aki Restaurant in Venice is a modern coffee bar and Japanese dining spot with contemporary decor. Located at the top of a modern building on via Torino, it offers breathtaking views through its large windows. During the beautiful season, guests can enjoy the panoramic view of Venice from the 19th-floor terrace. Chef Aquira Nagasuka presents a menu featuring traditional Japanese dishes as well as innovative creations.
Fresh food of very good quality with attention to presentation, perhaps the dessert was not special but good nonetheless. The restaurant is well furnished and cosy, the dinner during sunset is atmospheric. Friendly staff. I think the prices are fair for the quality of the food. Recommended

Food is good, bar is nice, ambiance is amazing. We had to wait 1:30h for our entree to arrive, lobster and it was basically just shell with 4 little pieces of meat. Like i would have rather had pizza at that point

Very very good Sushi and Tapas in a Restaurant with a nice view over Venedig. The service was not as good as you would imagine in such a sophisticated Restaurant. Thats the reason for four Stars.

Food was okey. But took too long, service people were friendly. Everything was a bit dirty. Especially the tpiöettes and the floor.

There are italian staff for why is soo expensive. Without them i think it would be better like not eating "gold" anymore you know....the food i didn't liked. The positive aspect is the beautiful view.
Labonno I — Google review
Unfortunately a really bad experience. We waited a really long time for our food. The sushi was not good at all and expensive. We paid 8 Euro for a bottle of Coca Cola! Wouldn't recommend
Michael H — Google review
I choose Aki for my wife's birthday dinner during our Venezia journey. But there was not a good service when we entered the entrance, the man with glasses told us "this is a restaurant, why are you here?" We had a reservation but he did not ask the name politely and service professionally. Venezia is a wonderful city except this restaurant.

You pay for the view. Upscale "wanna be" Japanese Fusion. For a restaurant with that price range you should expect a decent rice. The scallops were tasteless. The tempura to much and to greasy. The Wagyu was delicious. Staff was friendly and professional.

Restaurant
Ate at Ristorante Il Tinello tonight. They have a good understanding of basic English, with one Chef who can speak it fluently. The pizza is delightful, and the desserts are delicious. The food is down to earth and reasonably priced. Avoid the breadsticks on the table as they charge 2 euros per packet. Instead, I recommend trying some of their great starters! Located opposite a hotel, it's a convenient option after a long 250 km bike trip.
My parents live nearby, and every time I visit them (I now live overseas) we have pizza from Il Tinello at least once. The pizza never disappoints, it's made with high quality ingredients and always cooked just right. I am vegetarian and have quite a few choices available - all very tasty. The lady at the bar counter is absolutely lovely too. The restaurant ambience is fine, if a bit impersonal for me. I find the light a little harsh but I usually have a good time anyway.

My friend and I were thinking about eating at another pizza place but, it was rather crowded so we kept walking and found this place- I thought the atmosphere was comfy- the service lady was rather nice- it was quiet night- and I'm not a huge fan of thin crust pizzas but their pizza was exceptionally delicious! I would recommend this place-

Ate there tonight. They do understand very basic English and one of the Chefs can speak English too. Wonderful pizza, delicious desserts. Down to earth food and reasonable prices. Don't eat the breadsticks on the table as each packet will cost you 2 euros. You're better off trying a couple of the great starters!

Visited here on a local recommendation. Pizza was absolutely delicious. My friends had a peppercorn steak and fish dishes, which were apparently very good, too. The half liter of wine was surprisingly good, despite my worries. Very friendly waitress. Would definitely go here again if we were staying longer! We used the English and Italian menus to figure out what we wanted when telling the waitress--no problems there.
