Ancient Ruins
The Amyntas Rock Tombs, dating back to the 4th century BCE, are a remarkable series of burial caves carved directly into the cliff face that served as the resting place for ancient Lycians over 2500 years ago. These classical tombs feature columned porticos and offer stunning views of Fethiye marina and the bay.
€3 entrance ticket. Look at this from technical perspective. Perfect alignment and symmetry. Once again they call everything which functionally is unclear a “tomb”. And tools were hammer and chisel. I can not determine the type of rock. But it is hard stuff. Wonderfully designed and made!
Harold F — Google review
If you’re in history and ancient ruins you will like it, but if you’re coming for adventure or hiking it is not the best place to be. The stairs are easy and take you to one place only which is the “burial room”. You can watch the sunset with sea view which fantastic.
Humam A — Google review
Be prepared to get your sweat on. Very impressive views across the bay. 3 Euros to Enter. A short stroll up from the harbour, through the old town up the hill to the entrance. Worth the visit if you’re in the area.
Kyle C — Google review
Grrat view of Fethiye. The entrance is 3 eur. Turkish citizens can buy muzekart at the entrance for 100lira. There are quite some stairs and a bit of rocks to climb to get to the main thomb. Be very careful because the rocks can be very slippery and a fall can be very dangerous. Have proper shoes on.
Burak A — Google review
Not far from the bus terminal. You can see most of it from the road or 3 euros or 150TRY for entry. Some 300 steps to the top. Steep and rocky but a great view over the town.
Nigel — Google review
Definitely worth the visit, these tombs are fascinating. My friend and I had a great time exploring and climbing closer to get a sneak peak. One of my highlights from Fethiye ✨
Tama R — Google review
We didn’t pay any entrance fee or for the hike, but even from a distance, it’s beautiful to admire the rock tombs. We recommend going before sunset, as the lighting is much better. It can get extremely hot during the midday hours.
Arzu A — Google review
Very easy to go there. Not far from city at all. We walked from hotel in Fethiye around shopping area. Entrance fee is €3 per person. It is worth for going. There is parking area too.

Outdoor Activities
Belcekız Plajı is a stunning beach in Fethiye, known for its beautiful golden sandy shore and clear blue waters. The area is lined with a variety of bars and restaurants offering reasonably priced refreshments and snacks. Despite being crowded in the summer, the natural beauty of the beach makes it a popular destination for visitors seeking picturesque sunset views. For those looking for a quieter experience, walking towards the lagoon or Kumbrunu Plaji is recommended.
Belcekız Beach, located in Ölüdeniz near Fethiye, Turkey, is a stunning coastal destination renowned for its breathtaking scenery and clear turquoise waters. Framed by a dramatic mountainous backdrop, the beach is primarily composed of coarse sand and small pebbles, making it a unique spot for sunbathing and swimming. Visitors can enjoy facilities such as sunbeds, umbrellas, showers, and changing areas. It's also a prime spot for paragliding, with colorful gliders soaring above, offering spectacular views of the region. The nearby promenade is perfect for evening strolls, and the beach's serene environment is free from street vendors, enhancing its relaxing ambiance. Belcekız Beach serves as a gateway to explore other attractions in the area, such as Butterfly Valley and the Lycian Way.
Birol B — Google review
We love this beach. We come here every day this week for our holiday. There are clean toilets available. Shame that some tourists don’t pick up their own litter and don’t keep toilets clean after them. The locals try their best to keep everywhere clean and tidy. The sea is super clean and not too salty. We really enjoyed swimming here. We will definitely come back.
Zeynep Y — Google review
Belcekız Plajı is an absolute gem that deserves every bit of its 5-star rating. The beach boasts an array of fantastic features that make it a must-visit destination. First and foremost, the variety of bars along the shoreline is outstanding. Not only are there many options, but the prices are also remarkably reasonable. Whether you're in the mood for a refreshing cocktail or a simple snack, the beachside bars offer a delightful experience without breaking the bank. And then there's the water – perhaps one of the most stunning I've ever seen in Europe. The crystal-clear turquoise waters are simply mesmerizing. The cleanliness and clarity make it an ideal spot for swimming, and the picturesque surroundings add to the overall beauty of the beach. Belcekız Plajı provides a perfect blend of vibrant beach life and natural beauty. Whether you're looking to relax in the sun, take a dip in the captivating water, or enjoy a drink with a view, this beach has it all. A definite 5-star destination that should be on the list of anyone visiting the area.
Lorenzo — Google review
Beautiful bay and beach but spoiled by litter and noisy pirate ship boats. We rented a couple of loungers and it cost 120TL, seemed pretty expensive. All around the loungers were bottle tops, bits of old food and loads of cigarette butts. We didn't stay long. It's a shame the guys running the loungers don't pick up rubbish seeing as they spend most of their time just sitting there doing nothing.
Jonny S — Google review
Beautiful beach, is a pearl of türkish riviera.
Joe B — Google review
The cost of the sunbeds does not match the current state of the beach. The management should seriously address the cleanliness issue, otherwise this place risks losing its Blue Flag status. There’s litter everywhere — cigarette butts, plastic waste — and it really ruins the experience. It’s a beautiful location, but the maintenance is clearly lacking. 🥲
Alisia A — Google review
Haven’t been such a dirty beach in a long time. Don’t expect any sand and actually more fag butts than beach shingle. Water was nice but with waves. Lasted about an hour before leaving.
Jon A — Google review
İt is such a nice and clear beach not like the others here in the south, it being for free and all. there are No ticket so it quite accessible to everyone it being next to the bus station and all, which allows scumbags to be in it as well , throwing little rocks at girls and screaming sentences in every language so they can get their attention and talking about them so loudly as if they wouldn't understand. There isnt much trash around but if you dont like smoking then try to stay away. The staff is nice respectful, no small talk all is chill. İ do advise you to go with a person though if you are a girl cause my friend got so uncomfortable to the point she went home early. I am deducting a point just because of the guys that go there.

Beach
Sarıgerme Beach, located in the Ortaca district of Mugla Province, is a long and windy beach popular for windsurfing. The sea is usually wavy, making it ideal for water sports. The entrance fee is affordable and the facilities include showers, dressing cabins, and a budget-friendly beach cafe. Managed by Sarıgerme Foundation for Environmental Education (SARCED), the beach offers clear waters and pristine sand.
Probably the most beautiful sandy beach in the Turkish Rivera, there are some luxury hotels on the beach, but public entry is also available for 100 TL for car park. Definitely worth a visit, there are showers and toilets in the public areas too and plenty of food options and beach clubs. Highly recommended and a must visit when touring in Dalaman.
Ismail A — Google review
Sandy beach with clean water and lots of sitting area under the trees in the shade. The best gozleme here and nice shower, changing room and toilets behind the beach.
Ibolya T — Google review
Amazing beach. Nice and clean and lovely to walk up and down the beach. The beach also has facilities such as a food shop, toilets, showers, car park, etc.

Wonderful! I love this place. I recommend this place to people with children. Nice and clean sea, sandy beach and affordable canteen. Only improvement area is cleaning on the beach. The sandy beach has lots of trash. But people leaves their trash on the beach, I don’t know what administration can do about it.
Gozde U — Google review
Very long, clean, sandy and beautiful beach. Not extremely crowded like other popular beaches. Also has a cafe with good prices. It's a nice place to spend a day. You can see sea daffodils here.
Faruk Y — Google review
Again you will experience a long beach side here. It's a bit windy here so there are windsurfers around this area. The sea is wavy usually. Entrance fee is 15 TL with your car and 3TL per person.. The facility has everything that you need. Showers, Dressing Cabins, WC and etc. Also if you want to have something to eat or drink, there is a cafe on the beach which is very budget friendly. Not the best sea around, but if you stay around Sarigerme you can give it a try
Kartal Y — Google review
Its a good beach not pricy at all like other places (oludeniz for example). Easily accessible w a car (100tl) and for a seat you pay 75tl per person. There are cafés around and is definetly family friendly.

Friendly and helpful beach club employees. Clean establishment. Food and drinks were on point and fair price for what it is. We were there on Thursday, and it was quiet and not crowded. Almost felt like it was private cove. You can have water sports like kayaking. The cove also has public beach. I would definitely visit again during weekday. The road is not as bad as they mention here in comments, giving the location is very remote. Free parking.

A bit snobby expensive. beach is course sand to pebble and hard crashing waves. Difficult and long drive down huge decent plus the thought you have to go back up it after is daunting to some. No one says thanks if you move over to let them pass or wait so they can concentrate on getting grip on dusty make shift roads (don't look down!), mind you the bar is the same type of clientele. One visit is enough
Nick P — Google review
Great place to chill! Not so crowded beach, surrounded by rocks, fine restaurant with perfect music, nice staff. Quite adventurous road from Dalyan, higher prices than usual. But worth it.

A very nice and cosy place. Some stones in the coast, clean water, delicious food. Liked the cheeseburger. A little pricey but it worths. Nice decoration. Clean toilets, shower, changing rooms. You can stay on the public area as well if you don’t want to pay.

Secluded beach down a track road that did not fail to deliver. Friendly service, great food and drink in an amazing venue. Kayaks and paddleboards for hire. Cabanas and sun loungers. The bar was really nicely decorated and toilets very clean. We will go back.
Matthew O — Google review
Brilliant day out, the road is a little bumpy but so worth it. Cabanas for rent and plenty of shade. Gorgeous beach, excellent staff and canoes and paddle boards to rent. The best burger we have ever eaten and all the others food was perfect. Highly recommend.

Restaurant
Ottoman Restaurant Oludeniz is a culinary gem that has captured the hearts of many visitors. Guests rave about their experiences, often returning for more after just one visit. The menu boasts an array of delectable dishes, including succulent meats that practically melt in your mouth and a variety of flavorful shish kebabs, Ottoman casseroles, and mixed mezze. Diners have praised the freshness and taste of the food, particularly highlighting their cold meze as some of the best they've ever had.
We've been coming here for a few years now and everything from the service to the food is absolutely fantastic! Bali and his family make you feel like there own and it's by far our favourite place to eat in Oludeniz!

中国人避雷。味道一般,价格贵,还骗人说刷卡机坏了。记得用魔法打败魔法,就干坐着等刷卡机奇迹般工作了就行。 1. The free bread was very nice. 2. The taste of the food was ok but a bit plain. 3.considering the below two dishes plus two coke cost us 3090 TL and the food portion was not that big, I would say this was a pricy place and would NOT RECOMMEND it. The Turkish restaurant we loved in the UK was actually cheaper than this! Note: the staff would purposely tell you that their card machine wasn’t working or they didn’t know the password cus they wanted cash from you. They even told us there was an ATM nearby but I knew it would charge 8% service fees for cash withdrawals. So I refused to get cash and was just sitting there and waiting for their card machine to work. It worked “magically” at the end but this experience was horrible.
Ahri Q — Google review
Very good mixed grill platter and sea bass fish, highly recommended. A bit pricey for the portions you get. One downside is that the smoke from the grill hovers over all the seating area so that’s a bit annoying.
Sarah S — Google review
I read reviews about this place before we came to olu deniz. We have just had a wander about and fancied some cold meze for lunch. I can safely say this is the best meze I have ever had. Everything is so fresh and tasty. Will be here for dinner tonight 100%. Compliments to the chefs and lovely staff. Very accommodating with children too. Try this place
Paul S — Google review
Wow wow wow. Simply the best steak I have ever eaten anywhere! Lots of theatre. You will not be disappointed!
Dolgun O — Google review
We enjoyed this restaurant so much we returned the next evening. I cannot fault anything. The food is beautiful and extremely filling. The meat is succulent and melts in your mouth. We tried various shish, ottoman casserole, mixed mezze & lamb in a creamy sauce (forgotten what it's called). The service is very welcoming and they are genuinely happy to be serving you. We also received many free items throughout the meal (wine, beer, baklava, balloon bread). Thank you Ottoman restaurant for some delicious food and making our holiday that little bit more special.
Sascha H — Google review
Extremely welcoming restaurant with very friendly, attentive staff. Food is excellent and very reasonably priced. You will want to return again and again!
Julie F — Google review
They welcomed us at the start to get us into the restaurant. Took the order and was very friendly. After we finished ordering they offered us mixed salad on the house. Forgot to bring our drinks and we had to ask for them twice. At the end on the bill they charged us for a salad which we did not asked for. When questioned about this the guy started shouting back at us. It was very expensive I wouldn’t recommend it.

Went there today. Ordered homemade chicken burger. It came wiyh chicken breast with breadcrumbs in a bun. Not what I ordered. When I question to the waitress she said she will speak with chef...no further response. Too busy smoking and on her phone. What happened to service? There are hundreds of restaurants to choice from in the area

This coffee restaurant has become my favorite spot. Its design is modern and stylish, making it a great place to relax. I particularly enjoy going there in the evenings or meeting up with friends who always come here when they visit Fethiye. The atmosphere is perfect after a long day. The staff is incredibly polite and attentive, always ensuring that you're well taken care of.

Very nice spot to come to for Sunday Turkish Breakfast and other things that were had here, and would definitely come again, nice service from the ladies there who were helping and so on. A good collection of food and drink and other things to have here, with a good view across the road too.
Roselina P — Google review
Outstanding customer service, excellent food, ravioli are delicious, aldente just like made in Rome fresh :) Nice drinks, and all for an incredibly low price. Paid in Capadoccia much more for same portions and lesser flavour. Highly recommend to visit this amazing place
Victor B — Google review
Gustorante has matched the best with its fabulous and plentiful village breakfast (written as Aegean breakfast on the menu) at a very reasonable price for two people. The photos speak for themselves but it was hard to know where to start with everything looking so appetising. Freshly squeezed orange juice and Turkish Çay are included in the price. Gustorante is a new restaurant near the Sunday market in Çalış. The decor is clean and modern and there is indoor and outdoor seating. It is already establishing a name for itself with the locals so try it soon while you can still get a seat... Two years on we returned to try their seafood pizza. Very nice 👌 New menu and makeover since our last visit. Angora and Yakut wine available by the glass.

Aqua Dream Water Park is a sprawling 44,000m2 holiday resort water park in Marmaris, Turkey. It offers a variety of slides, tunnels, swimming and wave pools suitable for all ages. From adrenaline-fueled rides like the Kamikaze to more leisurely options, there's something for everyone. The park also features a top-notch restaurant serving delicious bites from seafood to kebabs.
This was such a good day at Aqua Dream Marmaris, we were there this Monday as a family of 4. Staff was super kind and helpful, pools were clean, slides were so much fun. DJ made us feel at home with a great selection of songs, foam party was lit, and there were latin dancer performing around 2:30 right before the foam party got started. Crowd was amazing too. And view ??? Just look at the great shot I got, absolutely spectacular. Food wasn't as expensive as I thought. We had a pizza and a waffle later for the kids. They were all delicious, no complaints. We will come back for sure...

The slides were very nice, the foam was insufficient at the foam party and we didn't have much fun. The area for children is very nice, I recommend it. While some employees were interested, I did not like the attitude of some employees. If not for those employees, I would recommend it very well in general.

Amazing waterpark, much better than the one on the beach, worth paying the extra for! Plenty of pools and slides for all ages! Staff more than helpful pulling out extra sunbeds as and when requested, the scottish lady on the bar was very friendly! Kids loved the icecream & strawberries! We will 100% return on our next trip to turkey!

(Translated by Google) Added: July 17th The sea was very calm and beautiful in the morning. My son said he saw a huge loggerhead sea turtle while diving, but we couldn't get in. We went back in the afternoon at 3:00 PM, and while we weren't far from shore, he said he'd seen it again, so we all saw it together. It was a truly huge loggerhead sea turtle. Their main location is Iztuzu Beach, but I think they come here too. My July 15th review: The location is easy to get to. The road is good, not too bad. There are parking lots at the businesses, but if you want to walk a bit, the roads are empty. There are several local markets in Ekincik village offering all kinds of shopping, and the prices are the same as the market. The businesses are expensive. The sea isn't sandy, but it's such a beautiful rocky surface that it doesn't stick to your body or hurt your feet. There are sun loungers, but they belong to the businesses. You can sit with tables and chairs. I didn't see any private showers or cabins at the beach. Since we were staying at the campsite, we used the one at the business. We didn't encounter any rude people. It's a magnificent bay surrounded by forest on three sides. Regarding the sea: first of all, it doesn't get deep immediately, but after 10-12 steps it passes head level and gets deeper. There are a lot of children swimming there. There's no lifeguard. The sea is very clear until noon, but it gets a little dirty in the afternoon due to tree debris and waves. Be sure to bring swim goggles; you'll be swimming with the fish. Fish are everywhere, and it offers a wonderful view. There's a nice breeze in the bay. Thankfully, even though I'm fair-skinned, I haven't burned myself yet :) We'll be here for another three days, so I can update...

Another option is to reach the public beach after a fork on the right side of the road before entering the municipal beach. It's easy on weekdays, but parking can be limited on weekends. Park at the first spot you see. You'll need to walk for 5-10 minutes, but it's calm and enjoyable. The sea.. A bit pebbly, but very clean. Bring a chair, a table, and food and drinks. (Translated by Google) Since we visited on a weekday, it wasn't crowded. The sea was wavy, and the beach was mostly sand. The sea was clean, but muddy due to the waves. The beach is owned by the municipality and was extremely affordable. Two sunbeds cost 200 TL. You don't have to buy one; you can just throw your towel on the beach and go in. We didn't see anyone unattended, and no one bothered us. There were no loud music blasters. The restaurant didn't play any music, which is a wonderful thing in our country. There were only the sounds of nature: waves, wind, and children laughing. This is the kind of tranquility that should be. Here, you're surrounded by forest on three sides, and the sea in front of you. Access is easy, and the roads aren't full of holes. Frankly, we were very pleased. I can say it was peaceful. If you're in Marmaris and craving some delicious Chinese cuisine, Tai Pan Chinese Restaurant is a must-visit spot. This charming eatery offers a delightful atmosphere that's perfect for families, as it provides a quiet setting where you can enjoy your meal without feeling rushed. The staff at Tai Pan are incredibly friendly and attentive, going above and beyond to ensure that every guest feels welcome.
Came this evening for Chinese and can honestly say it was absolutely beautiful, and I’m fussy 😂 they couldn’t do enough to help, I was also needing medicine that I forgot to bring and one of the staff went to the pharmacy to get me some medicine. Absolutely amazing place and amazing staff. Thankyou so much. We will definitely be back again while we are here xxx

Do not eat in this restaurant. We ordered the least spicy food on the menu and I swear it came out so spicy we couldn't eat it. We explained to the editor and he knew we didn't order anything too spicy and said he would say it to the kitchen. He never came back and we had to flag him down to order desert. I ordered pineapple fritters and my husband ordered ice cream. They came with his ice cream and I waited nearly 15 minutes before mine appeared at which point I told them I didn't want them any more that we just wanted the bill so we could leave. I explained they should have waited to bring both together but he said the ice cream couldn't wait for mine. Absolutely disgraceful and would most definitely not be going here again

I ate here this evening, I wasn’t amazed however I wasn’t disappointed either. It was just as expected from a Chinese buffet in Turkey. Friendly family atmosphere. Half of the ‘meal pics’ dotted about the restaurant was not served, so I was left unsure of this. The service wasn’t great, we was asked what drink we wanted when we sat down and then left to our own devices, not asked if we wanted another drink etc.. twice I was left with an empty glass and having to ask. I even had to ask twice to pay the bill. The food was bang average, however they did have an ice cream section which appeared to work wonders with the kids. Expensively priced for very average food.

Cheap and cheerful, Chinese food is actually quite good lots of veggies as well. The owner was lovely and told us if we came back he would give us half price. CHIPS. We had chips with the curry and it was so good. The spring rolls were huge! And so yummy and hot.

At Çandır Teras Çay Bahçesi Gözleme Ve Kahvaltı Evi, visitors are treated to a delightful Turkish breakfast experience that is both plentiful and fresh. The warm hospitality of the family running the establishment adds to its charm, making guests feel right at home. Diners rave about the delicious menemen and an array of dishes including gozleme, salads, eggs, honey, and refreshing pomegranate juice.
A must go for, typical Turkish experience food is brilliant and the views are the best I have seen while being in Turkey. These are the places that need looking after to make sure they are still here all the time for our kids to enjoy the same as we did.
Matthew G — Google review
What a fantastic experience it was here. Today, we’ve been, 5 of us, me, wife & 3 kids. We all loved it. Even the eldest who “didn’t like the sound of it”. It had been recommended to us by a few people however part of me couldn’t be bothered with working out how to get there and where to get the car ferry from and “all the bother” BUT I knew we had to get there. And it turns out that it was so very easy to get there. It started the day before, I messaged Candir Teras via their facebook page, and requested an 11am table for the next day. A quick response said ok and that we’d be collected at the car ferry point. So we booked local Tutar taxi to get us from our villa at 1035, we were at the car ferry point on Dalyan side, before 1045. The ferry point is right next to the Portakal Hotel. And we jumped on said ferry. It was just 15 lira per person (each way). The ferry just keeps running from side to side. It only takes about 5mins to cross. And we got to the other side and lo and behold, a pleasant gentleman said hello and we jumped in his car and 7mins later we’re there. We drove past Kaunos on the way and it would’ve been good to tie our visit with a walk up to the ruins and the amphitheater but the little legs weren’t feeling it. Anyway, up at Candir Teras, we were greeted by the owner and picked our table; they all had fantastic views (we went for one under the shade). We just sat and admired the views for starters; amazing. Then we ordered 4 Turkish breakfasts (as guided by them being plenty food for us 5 which it certainly was plenty). We got fresh orange juices and pomegranate juice, all lovely. Some waters too. And a traditional stacking pot-thing of Turkish tea & hot water. The breakfast galore came out to the table and it was plentiful and delicious. Allsorts there from fried eggs, tomatoes, cucumbers, cheeses, aubergine yoghurt dip, plate of chips, breads, olives, honey, butter, tahini and other dips, another bowl of like an egg/tomato loveliness, and the pancakes, they were so good, two types, a plain one and ones filled with cheese & spinach. It was such a glorious feed and glorious place to dine. We were there for nearly 2hrs. We’d eaten after an hour but we just stayed and relaxed and us adults had a Turkish coffee too. The bill was £55 (2810 lira) for all the food and drinks to keep 5 of us fulfilled. They had definitely earned a tip on top of that. The toilets were also lovely and clean too. We were then taken back to the car ferry point, said thanks and farewell (the collection & drop off is free by the way). We’d just missed the ferry but within 10mins he was back and we got back to Dalyan side. The walk back to Dalyan centre is about 15mins but we just got a taxi, too full to walk!! We will return again and highly recommend going. It’s easy to get there, a little adventure in fact, and it’s a fantastic experience and best breakfast we’ve had.

Had a wonderful experience when we came to Candir Terrace for our Turkish breakfast . The family were so friendly and accommodating. The food was plentiful and fresh. The menemen was fantastic. We enjoyed every bite from the Gozleme, the salads, the eggs, the honey and the pomegranate juice. I could go on and on but in the end everything we had was very tasty. The views are outstanding and it's such a calm and peaceful setting. We loved the honey and the pomegranate juice so much we bought some. I would highly recommend a visit. The family can meet you at the ferry to pick up and drop you back off if you book.

Remote location up in the hills overlooking the river. So much food laid out for breakfast, you can't eat it all. Pancakes, bread, eggs, cheese, salad, olives, chips plus more.

We had a delicious breakfast and enjoyed the stunning view. I needed vegan, gluten free food and, with the help of a translator friend on the phone (you could use a translating app) we agreed on shakshuka (minus the egg) and salad which was delicious! The rest of the family had traditional Turkish breakfasts which they all enjoyed enormously. 2 breakfasts filled my husband and 14 and 10 year old boys up fully. Nice clean toilets too.

So enjoyed our delicous Turkish breakfast . Gozleme, menemen ect very tasty. A lovely variety of food was served . 😋 The ladies serving and preparing our meal were so friendly and welcoming. The views were outstanding in an amazing area with such a peaceful atmosphere. Will definitely visit again and would not hesitate to recommend it. Oops nearly forgot we travelled by car and used the little car ferry ,which only took a few minutes to cross the river .70 tl each way.
Carol D — Google review
Walked here from central Dalyan after stopping at the T9mbs and Kounos ancient city. The view alone was well worth the long walk mostly up hill. Really friendly owner, relaxing atmosphere, never felt rushed.
Simon G — Google review
We hired a quad bike to tour the other side of the Dalyan river and planned to visit as we have heard a lot of good reviews. We visited mid-afternoon. We ordered lemonade, cheese gozleme, shakshuka and menemen. The lemonade was freshly made and was superb. The food was exceptional especially the menemen and shakshuka freshly made and delicious mopped up with crusty fresh bread. A big highlight of this year's holiday. If you enjoy fresh tasty Turkish food then this is a must visit place.

Samantha — Google review
If you survive the drive getting here (more on that at the end of this review), you will find Labranda (Labraunda) to be quite a fascinating historical site. I spent almost three hours here on a perfectly beautiful day in spring 2023, and only two other people showed up, so Labranda is definitely off the beaten tourist path. That means it is very quiet, unspoiled, you won't be constantly eagle-eyed by over-zealous caretakers as happens at places like Eleusis and Delphi, no graffiti, and you can physically experience the site in its entirety, even scrambling inside Zeus' rock cleft atop the cliff. There is also no charge to park or enter the site. The downside, however, is a lack of off-street parking (you have to park along the roadway), primitive toilet, and a bit of safety risk with the steepness and cliff. Definitely not accessible to wheelchairs. Some reviewers have complained about lack of informational signage, but I counted at least ten informational signs, all in excellent condition in both Turkish and English. Famous in antiquity for its oracle of Zeus, his cult here dated from the 6th century BC, but most of what you see today is from the 4th century BC. Zeus' oracle was (almost) unique in antiquity, it is conjectured, for using "bejeweled" fish as its method of divination. The remains include a large Hypostyle Fountain which was calculated to hold more than 2000 cubic feet of water(60 x 25 feet; "Hypostyle" means a building that has a roof supported by a row of columns). Labranda consists of a series of constructed terraces going uphill from the roadway, mostly connected by stairways (one of which is quite grand). The Temple of Zeus lies at the foot of the cliff just to the west of the cleft rock. The cleft in that rock, by the way, is split so wide that you can walk right through it, and at the back and below it (opposite the cliff face) some ancient stairs can be seen cut into the rock. That dramatic cleft rock, coupled with the fresh water spring directly below it, was the original attraction for a sanctuary here. The mythological tale is that Zeus threw a thunderbolt into the rock which split it. The most vertical buildings on site are "androns" or entertainment buildings for men dating from the 4th century BC. Atop the cliff there is a prominent rock with a rectangular hole cut into it, but it is a mystery since there was no signage concerning it. Only after my visit to Labranda did I realize there may be additional ruins further south (see with satellite image at coordinates 37.404176, 27.805689), but I did not visit that spot. Since there were a series of tombs and sepulchers along the ancient Sacred Way, perhaps that is what lies there, but that's a guess. Labranda is definitely worth visiting, but I need to add a strong cautionary note. The 9 mile (14 km) drive to Labranda from Milas can be rather harrowing. There are immense marble quarries operated by Kultan Mining to the north, and consequently the Milas Karpuzlu Yolu roadway gets jammed with huge trucks trying to drive as rapidly as possible. That's a problem because the roadway is terribly inconsistent in both width and surface quality, such that there are times when you need to drive around sharp/blind corners with barely room for one vehicle to pass. I had to deal with at least 60 trucks barreling at me along this twisty drive, and that led to several near misses (of the head-on collision variety). Not for the faint of heart. Presumably, that roadway is built along much of the ancient Sacred Way that connected Labranda with Mylasa (today's Milas) when the oracle was in full swing.
Jab M — Google review
The ruins are great to see. The road to reach the ancient city is a bit difficult with a lot of potholes and trucks, therefore I strongly recommend to be careful. But you can be sure that the view and atmosphere totally worth that difficulty. Enjoy the breathtaking view 🤩🤩

Flintstone houses ⛰️🏚️🤠 I don't know what was more astonishing... The once 4 lane mega highway that quickly funnels down into single lane bottleneck road paved in soap with massive 18-wheelers flying up the side of this twisty mountain pass or these ancient tombs from over 4,800 years ago just off the side of said suicide road 🤔 I'm not exaggerating when I say no less than three times we truly thought there would have been a massive accident with serious fatalities when multiple semi trucks met each other coming around these crazy sharp slippery corners driving like bats out of hell 🚛💨🦇🔥🔥🔥🔥 We got here pretty late in the day and actually got to have an amazing sunset to enjoy while exploring these ruins. The guard who lives here 24/7 was very friendly but was not overly happy about giving us a very quick nickel tour before he was tossing us out on our ear since we were there after hours 😂🤣😂 I completely understand. No one wants to work after hours doing overtime while their dinner is getting cold 🤗🤷‍♂️💪 I was really impressed with these tombs carved out of massive boulders. Things like this simply astonish me because I have trouble comprehending just how much time energy and effort would have been needed to make something like this back in the day 🤯 There were some really great temples and an amphitheater here as well. Overlooking the valley with the sunset made this place extra special for sure 👌👌👌 I even got to have some mountain pup love! This doggy was super cool and very protective of this site. He had crazy gentle eyes though... Almost as if he knew all the secrets of the universe like a big furry Buddha... I miss this pup already 😭🐶🌄🐾

Nice quiet place. Definitely off the tourist beaten path. Amazing complex for being so far out in the middle of nowhere. Great place if you like original archeology but not so good if you didn’t research it in advance (not much signage). “Guarded” by super cute Anatolian Sheepdog. Be sure to spend quality time with her!

This site is somewhat off of the beaten track. Off road (just!) Parking very limited! Maybe 4 cars max? Free to enter. Lots to see and some information boards too (English and Turkish). Expect to have to scramble. We walked it wearing trainers but recommend walking boots. Will be very wet underfoot if it has rained. Lots of information boards (English and Turkish).
Paul B — Google review
Highly recommended! The road is precarious, with heavy truck traffic due to a nearby quarry. The ruins are impressive, the view over the hills simply stunning. On a February mid-week we had the site to ourselves (with a friendly site guard). The toilet was very clean.

Muğla Clock Tower, located on Kara Mustafa Street in the Balibey neighborhood, is a historical landmark built in 1895 by Haci Kadizade Suleyman Efendi and his wife Pembe Ana. (Translated by Google) It was built in 1895 by Hacı Kadızade Süleyman Efendi, the first mayor of Muğla, and his wife Pembe Ana. They commissioned a similar tower to one they had seen in Damascus upon returning from the pilgrimage by the renowned Greek master Filvarus. The Clock Tower, constructed of cut stone and brick, has a square plan and five stories, decreasing in size from bottom to top. The lower floor of the tower serves as a shop, and a circular clock face is installed on the fifth floor. Rectangular windows with pointed and round arches are adorned on the facade of each floor. The bell in the historic Clock Tower allows local residents to tell the time by striking the bell, even though they cannot see the time. The bell typically strikes the hourly rate at the beginning of the hour and chimes once on the half hour. The clock tower's inscription, which includes information about its builder and the reason for its construction, was written by Dede İsmail Hakkı Efendi, a teacher at Muğla Junior High School and a ney player at the Şahidi Mevlevi Lodge. The clock, bearing the builder's signature, still functions. The clock tower's inscription in Modern Turkish (Prof. Dr. N. Açıkgöz) reads: The benevolent Hadji Süleyman Efendi, once again revealed his sea of generosity. He had a perfect timekeeper's house built at this location, especially to announce the time of iftar and dawn. The large bell clock, unparalleled in our town, brought joy to everyone when it was brought from Europe. There was no need to carry a pocket watch, The world understood the time with the spread of its sound. With this prompting, Ziya told a jewel of history, The timekeeper's house was built with its vastness and abundance. İsmail Hakkı, one of Mustafa Vasfi's students, inscribed this in marble. Year May 30, 1885 (Original) 1895’te Muğla’nın ilk Belediye Başkanı olan Hacı Kadızade Süleyman Efendi ve eşi Pembe Ana tarafından yaptırılmıştır. Şam şehrinde gördükleri kulenin bir benzerini hac dönüşü ünlü Rum usta Filvarus’a yaptırmışlardır.

My favourite place in Muğla for breakfast. It's perfect for groups, couples, children, anyone. The food us great, especially the limitless breakfast. Great value and you can keep topping up food you finish. They have a little kids play area too. Very popular and always busy. Staff are lovely and attentive. It has a great atmosphere.
