Banská Bystrica offers a well-preserved historic center, with its spacious SNP Square, colorful burgher houses and a leaning clock tower reflecting its medieval mining wealth. The city is closely tied to modern Slovak history as the center of the 1944 Slovak National Uprising, commemorated by an impressive museum and memorial complex. Its location in central Slovakia makes it a convenient base for exploring nearby mountains such as the Low Tatras and Veľká Fatra, with hiking, cycling and winter sports within easy reach. Cafés, galleries and small cultural venues give the compact city a relaxed, local atmosphere that’s easy to explore on foot.
With favorites like Steak House, Ľupča Castle, and BOUNCE PARK 17 Banská Bystrica, we’ll make sure you don’t miss out on all the must sees. We even included some of our favorite food spots around the area, like Chlieb a láska - Stará tržnica BB and OLIVO Pizza Restaurant Cafe so you can get the best taste of Banska Bystrica while you’re here. Restaurant
Nestled along the E77 road towards Donovaly, "Koliba u sv. Krištofa" is a charming Slovakian restaurant that offers an authentic taste of local cuisine in a cozy setting. This delightful eatery is perfect for travelers seeking traditional dishes like Halusky—potato dumplings paired with creamy Bryndza cheese. The atmosphere exudes Slovak charm, making it an inviting spot to unwind after a day of exploring.
There were five of us and we were super hungry. Someone in our group suggested this place. We had no problem with parking/plenty of it. I think there might be one step to get in and it is very Slovak stylish place. It is clean and bathroom were on the spot. I ordered halusky and some kind of sauerkraut with bean soup. All was super tasty. No one in our group complained as matter of fact we all were very happy with food. The service was excellent. I wish I had the recipe for that soup - it was that good. So if you are undecided I would recommend this place. Our experience was great from the start the the end. As matter of fact I would not mind going there right now.

Nestled just outside Banská Bystrica, this charming wooden chalet offers not only a beautiful, rustic setting but also a genuine taste of Slovak tradition. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, with traditional décor that made us feel like we had stepped into a cozy mountain retreat. The service was friendly and the food was excellent – hearty, flavorful, and true to Slovak roots.
Katarzyna Z — Google review
We had a great dinner here! Thanks to Rob our server he recommended some wonderful Slavic dishes. The farmers platter had the traditional Halusky (potato dumplings in cheese sauce and bacon) Rob also brought us a cheese spread and bread that was very good. We had the traditional cabbage soup, a schnitzel, then a sampling of traditional desserts. Dumplings with apples, poppy seed and sour cherry compote on the side. We also tried the Slavic apple strudel and poppy seed strudel. Rob also brought us a traditional yogurt style drink that was very tasty. Our beer and dry red wine were excellent too! The place is a gem on your way to or from Banska! Highly recommend!

We visited this restaurant three times so far when travelling and we really love it. Traditional, tasty slovak meals, kind atmosphere, menu in more languages. The Brindzovy haluski is specially worth a try.
Dori H — Google review
Horrible waitress chatting loudly about customers behind the bar. Disappointing behaviour. The food would perhaps have been better had it not been for the spoilt humour at the beginning.
Hanna — Google review
Reviewing the restaurant: the halusky were very disappointing. I could not distinguish the characteristic taste of bryndza cheese. Shulanze were better, but unevenly cooked.
Nicolas S — Google review
We just had some soup and pasta. The food was freshly made and very tasty. Highly recommend this place.

Harmanecká cave

4.8
(1324)
Nestled in the breathtaking Mala Fatra Mountains, Harmanecká Cave is a must-see destination for anyone visiting Banska Bystrica, Slovakia. This illuminated cave system stretches over 2,770 meters and showcases an array of stunning rock formations, including impressive stalactites and stalagmites. As one of Slovakia's most significant caves, it features remarkable breakdown domes and serves as a winter habitat for numerous bats.
This is a fantastic cave to visit, exemplary of what Slovakia has to offer. We particularly like the hike up to the cave, as it makes it possible to spend a nice half-day visiting. Be aware though--it is a hike through the woods, and uphill, so be prepared for that. Definitely dress in layers bc you'll have a workout up and then the cave is chilly. There are tables at the top to picnic and gorgeous views. As only a certain number of people are allowed on each tour, it's wise to buy tickets ahead of time, that way you don't end up waiting for the next tour. If you want to take photos, you'll have to pay for a separate photography pass, which is definitely worth it. The tour guides are knowledgeable and patient. It's an awesome experience!
BZ — Google review
Great experience and really close to Banska Bystrica. The tour guide was very good and we were given printed pamphlets in English to follow along with the Slovak guided tour. Tickets are cheap if you don’t want to pay the extra cost to take photos. It’s a 40-50 minute hike up to the cave entrance where there is a small lodge with a café inside. The hike is very nice and has information panels about the local nature. Only thing is you have to plan your day around one of the four possible tour times. Highly recommend visiting. Not accessible if you have physical disabilities.
Ser R — Google review
Navigation apps may not always indicate the parking lot correctly. Search for and enter "Reštaurácia Čierna ovca" (restaurant "Black sheep"). The route to the cave begins right at this restaurant. Parking is free. Harmanecka Cave made an even bigger impression on me than Ice Cave or Liberty Cave. It took about 40 minutes to climb the path to the top, but it is definitely worth a visit. Please note that officially you can enter the cave if there are at least 4 people, but they are flexible enough in this matter and let the two of us through the cave without any additional charge.
Gintautas Š — Google review
Lovely cave to visit. It’s a bit of a hike up the hill (around 40 minutes). Admission for adults was 7 euro. Check in advance what time the tours are planned and ask the guide for a English explanation. The paper with the English explanation is too limited and not clear. Our guide did a great job.
Wim H — Google review
The cave is stunning, beautiful and breathtaking. You can get there by a 45 mins walk up to the top of a mountain.
Erzsébet K — Google review
Amazing place to visit. It takes about 40 minutes to get up there from parking lot. Which makes experience even more special.
Daniela M — Google review
Beautiful cave, great tour, small hike to enter the cave as well as in cave itself (1042 stairs), definitely place to visit.

Great place, yet be aware that it takes time and quite effort to elevate from parking lot! Aproximately 30 minutes.

Banska Bystrica Castle is a must-visit attraction in the charming city of Banska Bystrica, located in the heart of Slovakia. The castle offers breathtaking views and a glimpse into the rich history of the area. Visitors can explore the pedestrianized center with its array of restaurants and bars, as well as enjoy the beautiful town square with preserved churches, original facades, and a clock tower. Very spectacular castle and surroundings. There is a nice, "animated" relief at the entrance.

Park under the SNP Museum

Park
Park under the SNP Museum is a popular spot in Banska Bystrica, offering various activities for locals and tourists. It's conveniently located just a few minutes from the city center and the historic Town Square, making it easily accessible by public transportation. The park provides a safe environment for inline skating and running, as well as a playground for children. Visitors can enjoy leisurely walks along the pathway while taking in the fresh air. Additionally, it's an ideal place for picnics and relaxation.
It is very nice to have a walk with friends along the pathway. The air is so fresh and the wanderweg is surprisingly good for strolling. Sometimes the kids and the school teachees come down for a half day tour. Definitely a nice place to stop over when visiting the museum.

This park in Banská Bystrica was always one of my favorite places. It’s big, green, full of life, and perfect for walking or skating. I remember many times when I chose to walk through it on my way from the city back to the center and then home. It was not just a shortcut but a peaceful walk that gave me a moment to slow down and enjoy the nature around me.
Svetlana M — Google review
Great place. Probably only one place on Banská Bystrica for safe inline skating. Located few minutes from center and square. Great availability by public transportation. Plus there is great ice cream next to the park. Minus is Slovak legislation not allowing barbeques on public places.

History Museums
Nestled in the heart of Banska Bystrica, the Museum of the Slovak National Uprising stands as a testament to Slovakia's courageous fight for freedom during World War II. This striking Brutalist structure, resembling a concrete bowl, houses an impressive collection of artifacts that narrate the story of the 1944 uprising against Nazi forces. Visitors can explore various exhibits featuring everything from military uniforms to tanks, all while gaining insights into this pivotal moment in Slovak history.
Very nicely done museum on the Slovak National Uprising, with various exhibits on Nazism and how the Slovake decided to rise up against the collaborators and occupiers. Musuem is pretty inexpensive to enter and has a little bookshop. Couple floors with guns, stories and uniforms. Very well done museum. Definitely worth visiting. No dogs allowed. Right in city center.
Paul H — Google review
I came to see this beautifully designed building by Dušan Kuzma and was really excited to see inside of it after admiring it from the outside. For 5 euro entrance you can't see any of it? It has a two room exhibition on the bottom floor of the smaller half, I didn't even spend 5 minutes and asked that my ticket be given to someone else if possible as I'd already paid. Lady on front desk was very nice, but would have been nice to know before paying there's no ability to see the building, not even see the second floor or the other half of the building accessable. Really disappointing.
Jeff M — Google review
Really glad we found this museum. The outdoor war machines are great to stroll around. The museum itself is quite small but well organised with a great collection of guns and clothes to peruse. Most but not all information is in English. We did not use the audio guide which we thought was quite expensive. Also really dislike when museums charge a photography fee (photos we take that can promote the museum!)We came on a Sunday and fortunately it was a half price day for some reason. My recommendation for the museum would be to share more specific stories of the uprising that would bring it to life more.
T R — Google review
We quite enjoyed this museum, was quite small but informative. Unfortunately you do have to pay to take pics and video. There are the planes and tanks that you can explore also a lot weapons used in the uprising too. A few hours would be plenty of time to explore the museum.

I love this place. I was here many times. This place is big part of Slovak history. There is interesting collection of armored vehicles out side and inside is realy nice museum about Slovak national uprising 1944.
Maros C — Google review
The Museum SNP is really great overall! The Museum SNP is divided into two parts, the open air fixed displays are a bit older and show their age however the payed interior main museum is new, clean and interactive. The Slovak peoples history fighting fascism throughout WWII is very important and should never be forgotten.
First T — Google review
Lovely museum, covering all aspects of the Czech contribution in ww2, from the partisans to those who joined foreign legions such as the commonwealth army and red army. Great collection of items and display method, not to mention the stunning exterior design of the building and the statue next to the eternal flame.

Hodinová veža

Tourist information center
Hodinová veža, also known as The Clock Tower, is a prominent attraction in the heart of Banska Bystrica. Originally built in 1552 as part of the town prison, this slender tower offers breathtaking panoramic views of the city and its vibrant Namestie SNP square. Visitors can admire the multicolored area from atop this leaning tower, reminiscent of Italy's famous Pisa tower.
The tower offers great views of the city, especially the square. Cash only however. Only 2 eur. Stairs to climb up. Nothing inside, nothing to read. It's worth it for the magnificent view!
Paul H — Google review
Every Friday after college, this was our ritual spot. A quiet climb, a moment to write wishes with my best friend Lucka, and enjoy the view that somehow always made everything feel lighter. Once, we even got locked in at the top — a memory that still makes us laugh. It’s right in the city center and feels like it’s holding decades of stories. The tower is slightly leaning — about 68 centimeters off the vertical axis — making it a kind of "mini Pisa" of Banská Bystrica.
Get-nabla — Google review
We visited during Jarmok in September and the views were amazing. Only 2eur entrance fee which is what I remember from years ago :) Very nice lady working in the ticket office. It's definitely worth the visit, not too many stairs.

Lela A — Google review
This is a very nice clock tower in the city centre of Banská Bystrica. It's also slants to one side, like a little tower of Piza. It is clean and 2 years back a very nice lady was working there. There is a fee, but not very high, and guests are given a brochure of the clock tower's history. The staircase is steep. I'm afraid of heights, so I found the railing at the top rather short. I was at the top with little children, which stressed me out a bit. The view of BB from the top is spectacular. One can see the whole historical square and also parts of BB further away. The nature around BB is gorgeous, so it's worth going up the clock tower. It doesn't look very tall from the ground, but it is. A little bonus is the ice cream shop under the tower. I've travelled a lot, but I think this is probably the best place to get ice cream - I could eat kilos of the stracciatella one - (just wish the portions were a little bigger💁‍♀️) The coffee here is nice, too. Definitely a place to visit and enjoy a cup of coffee and ice-cream in the heart of Europe.

Beatiful, misterious church. Very quiet and providing a special feeling. It was a pleasant experience, in a very cold day

St. Francis Xavier Cathedral in Banská Bystrica is one of my favorite places in the city. I’ve always loved its calm, elegant atmosphere right in the heart of the main square. The baroque architecture is beautiful, and every time I visit, it feels peaceful and grounding. One interesting fact: the cathedral was inspired by the Church of the Gesù in Rome – the mother church of the Jesuits – which gives it a strong historical and architectural connection to European religious heritage. Even though it’s not the largest cathedral, it carries a quiet grandeur that makes it truly special.

Lovely breakfast and breads. Tea and oat milk coffee were excellent. Reasonable prices. Great friendly staff and English spoken.. nice ambience..

Finally a great breakfast place in Banská Bystrica! It has been a long time favorite of my mom for their brioche (Vianočka), however I have never tried their breakfast until today. I went for the toasted brioche with "termix" which is this sort of Slovak thick yogurt consistency desert/snack. The brioche was really nice, very fluffy and buttery. Just lightly toasted. It was delicious on its own even without the termix. The termix itself was really nice as well, not too sweet a bit tangy with a light taste of cocoa. I appreciated that even the forest fruit on top was glazed with some sort of jam so it was actually nice and flavourful. Then I followed up with one of their baked goods that are displayed in a nice glass display in both the bakery part of the shop and the restaurant part. I chose the poppy seed yeasted "koláč" which I love and this one was particularly delicious! The dough was super soft. not dry at all, there was plenty of filling and even a dollop of plum jam on top. I can highly recommend. I also got a flat white which was well prepared. Oat milk is also available! Atmosphere was fantastic, I love the interior and the stuff was very friendly and helpful as well.

The food was excellent this morning but everything else was a bit sloppy. The service was prompt but without a smile it looked like the waitresses were forced to work today. No salt or pepper in the shakers. Luke-warm chai latte. Unable to pay by card.....I would recommend to tell the customers in advance that they take cash only. Still, the food was excellent and on a Sunday when everything else is closed it is a great breakfast option.

OLIVO Pizza Restaurant Cafe is a delightful spot that captures the essence of Banska Bystrica with its inviting atmosphere and friendly staff. I have eaten here on several occasions. This place has a really nice interior as well as great outside seating area. They serve Czech pilsner beer which I would recommend over Gambrinus beer. Although the service is good and staff are funny, I struggle to find something appealing in the menu.

The menue is confusing as they have a lunch buffet as well as individual choices, the ration was just adequate.

I used to go here a lot more but they've changed. The stuff is not as friendly, the food doesn't taste good and to be honest everything taste the same. Pizza is maybe an exception. The restaurant should try to improve not only food but the place itself. It looks renewed but when you get a closer look it looks like no one take care of it.

Amazing burgers, fries, onion rings and dips, beautiul ladies serving you, the meals arrived quite quickly, just a seamless experience. Cozy stylish interior and a big terrace at the main square. Another nice touch were various toiletries at the restroom available at your disposal. Overall a great experience! Definitely recommend!

The food was good quality, we really liked it. Some tips: some snacks would be good to have next to the beers. We also missed local beverage products (local soft drinks would be nice to have other than Kofola)

Tasty but I felt the portion was slightly too small. It was awkward when my friend was eating his club sandwich for twice as long as me. Very cute waiter though.

At first, we thought this was a traditional Slovak restaurant, and although there are some traditional options, it's more of a Burger place. But don't give up on this place, they have some delicious traditional options. The staff is nice and the menus are in English as well.

The food is good. The burger is one of the best I had. Service is exceptional, even though it might seem a little slow when the place is packed.
Martin T — Google review
Daily soup (brussels sprouts) was really tasty. Langos is in my opinion their signature dish, fresh with juicy pulled pork and creme fraiche with niva cheese (Roquefort style) dressing goes really well together. Although hamburgers (Byk mek burger) weren't the best. Patty was well done and a bit dry. The bun was OK. Overall experience was positive and I'll come back when passing Banska Bystrica. Location is really close to the main road.

Japanese restaurant
Sushi restaurant
Samurai Sushi offers a pleasant atmosphere and authentic Japanese taste with great ramen and sushi. The food is nicely served using quality, fresh ingredients. However, the lack of card payments and WiFi may be inconvenient for some. The red curry and sushi set are highly recommended, although the menu organization could be improved. The staff is friendly, accommodating special occasions with fast delivery service. While the prices are slightly higher, it's considered worth it for the quality in this area.
Absolutely amazing experience! The sushi was incredibly fresh and full of flavor. Every roll was a delight, and the presentation was beautiful. The staff were super kind and made sure we felt welcomed and comfortable. Highly recommended!

Great ramen and sushi, authentic Japanese taste, nice place and pleasant atmosphere. Quality ingredients, fresh and nicely served food. The only downsides are the lack of card payments and no WiFi. I recommend investing more in the advertisement because the place is hard to find. The logo is barely visible and blends into the background. Otherwise, highly recommended.
Paulina A — Google review
The experience was quite bad. We made a reservation for 1830 and they told us that, as there were lot of people, we would have to wait some time. But we did not expect the food to arrive 1 hour and 20 minutes late, having to eat it rapidly to take the bus. When talking to the waiter about this issue, there was no apology nor a try to make things right with us. Despite that, food was good, but the experience, in general, is quite bad. We will not go again.
Fernando F — Google review
Is this Ramen?? Really? And the noodles are not the classic ones but the one you put on Pho? I was so disappointed. Not only the noodles but just too many arbitrary veggies that have nothing to do with original Japanese noodles and the broth was not deep at all but rather mild instant noodles style. If this is the Slovakian way, I’ll stop here. But as a person who’s tried Ramen not only in Japan but also for around in 30 different countries, this was a really no. The waiter was kind. But when restaunting, food is the thing as you know.

Day 2

Northeast side of town
For day 2, we recommend exploring the northeast side side of town. Start the day off with Ľupča Castle, then wind down and take it easy by the time you get to Church of the Assumption, Banská Bystrica. All together, your day would be filled with about 7 hours of non-stop fun.

Located near Banska Bystrica, Ľupča Castle offers guided tours that explore its medieval history and architecture. The castle is being continuously reconstructed, with more parts becoming accessible to tourists each year. While the best time to visit is July-August, visits can be arranged in other months as well. The castle exudes a medieval atmosphere and provides stunning views of the surrounding area from its windows. Although tours are conducted in Slovak, English guide books are available upon request.
The castle looks beautiful, especially from the road—it really stands out and made us want to stop and visit. We decided to check it out on a whim, and we’re glad we did. While there isn’t much to see in terms of art or fancy architecture, the visit was still worth it. The tour was cozy and gave us a good idea of what life was like in the past. However, it’s important to note that the tour was only in Slovak, so it’s not very English-friendly. There’s also a small cafeteria where you can grab a snack. Overall, it’s a nice spot to take some photos and have a quick, fun visit. If you’re nearby, it’s definitely worth a stop, just be prepared for the language barrier.

Castle was still under reconstruction but most of part was open to public. There is commented tour every half an hour. From castle was nice view to surrounding areas. You can chill under tree. Parking is next to main entrance and it was for free. Enjoy your stay.
Dušan — Google review
The castle exterior is nicely restored and painted. There's a coffee shop area with toilets and outside seating. The guided tour was very informative and the rooms visited are in excellent condition. Sadly, many rooms still remain to be restored and are not accessible during the tour. Some of the rooms have a more modern vibe that are used for weddings and functions.
Michal I — Google review
A very nice medieval castle with a rich history. There are many rooms, as well as a well and a torture chamber that can be visited with a guide. An old linden tree, which has stood for centuries and witnessed much history, grows near the main gate. Definitely worth a visit. Free parking and a reasonable entrance fee. Unfortunately, there is no original furniture in the castle, as it was taken to the Czech Republic during the period when Czech officials were working in what is today Slovakia. After the dissolution of the Kingdom of Hungary and the establishment of the Czechoslovak Republic (October 28, 1918), there were not enough educated officials, teachers, policemen, soldiers, or other professionals in Slovakia who could speak Czech or Slovak and who were loyal to the new state. Most officials under Hungary were Hungarian and many refused to serve the new republic. For this reason, the Czech government sent thousands of Czech officials to Slovakia and some use it to transfer valuables to their part of the country.

You have to go on a guided tour and the tours are only in Slovak. Beautiful building but I really didn't understand anything from the tour. Plenty of stairs to watch out for if you've got mobility issues. All in all, not bad but not worth going out of your way for.

Definitely worth to see! Beautiful castle on the hill above the the village Slovenská Ľupča. Throughout the years it is being reconstructed more and more and each year further parts of this castle are being made accessible for tourists. The best season to visit it is July-August however it is possible to agree on a visit as well in other months by calling in. The castle breathes the middle-ages atmosphere and offers beautiful view from its windows on the nearby land. We´ve been lucky to experience private sightseeing arriving there in early May and having absolutely fantastic guide Kristina to guide us through the castle.

Castle is pretty, but still in reconstruction. Interior not original and not much equipped. The way Up to the castle is very narrow, not for inexperienced drivers. There is a exhibition of local sculpturer Ján Kulich on the castle.

(Translated by Google) Disaster, I read the reviews and they were good until last month when bad reviews about the staff started to appear. I wanted to go and try it out and they were right. There were only 2 employees there, one behind the cash register and the other at the kart (mechanic). I can't say that they were experts because after the first go-kart ride in the first turn, the kart understeered... It had a terribly worn brake and something was rattling in the right rear (by the engine). It turned out that it was the plastic and to make matters worse, after I told the "mechanic" I was told that the kart had a defect. How can he let a kart with a defect go on the TRACK!? Fortunately, we only went there in 2 but imagine if there were 10 of us like in the other videos. I'm not a top racer but I understand karts and I've driven them a lot.

(Translated by Google) They don't have the safety here, but not at all! They let children on the track who have no experience together with adult "racers", when I pointed it out before the ride, they ignored it. (Later, when I complained, I learned that it was on the owner's instructions) During such a ride, one "racer" pushed my 15 year old daughter, who was sitting in a go-kart for the first time, off the track and crashed into the pits at speed and it was very lucky that nothing happened to her. And instead of an apology, there was only an arrogant and rude attitude of the staff, with the justification that my daughter would learn to drive and that the adult Ukrainian-speaking "racers" present were regular visitors, that they were not at fault... seriously the top, until something serious happens...

(Translated by Google) The painter Dominik Skutecki moved to Banská Bystrica at the end of the 19th century and built a villa in the city center. The villa is reminiscent of Italian and is a real work of art. Today, a branch of the Slovak National Gallery is located there and the exhibition in the villa is precisely the works of Dominik Skutecki. The works are exhibited on the ground floor and on the first floor and are divided into thematic units. Before visiting the gallery, I knew nothing about this artist, so the tour of the gallery pleasantly surprised me. Skutecki painted portraits of wealthy people, blacksmiths and ore smelters, as well as genre scenes. The entrance fee to the gallery is 4 euros. Great vegan food at really good prices. It operates like a canteen, so you pick up your tray and tell the staff which option you would like and they serve it for you. Nestled in an unexpected location, Limone Bistro & Wine is a hidden gem that promises delightful culinary experiences. Introduced by friends from Brezno, this charming spot has become their weekly lunch ritual, and it's easy to see why. While the prices reflect quality—don’t expect salmon for the cost of tuna—you truly get what you pay for here. The bistro offers well-prepared meals accompanied by the owner's witty banter, making each visit enjoyable.
I concur with the other overwhelmingly positive reviews. My friends from Brezno (43 km away) introduced me to this place as their once-a-week lunch treat. That's self-explanatory. Don't expect salmon for the price of tuna fish, but you really do get what you pay here for, and the lunch is served with some of the owner's timely jokes on the side.

Town Castle Kremnica is a must-see attraction in Banska Bystrica, featuring a vibrant pedestrian zone at its central Namestie SNP square. The Hodinova veza tower, also known as The Clock Tower, offers stunning views of the multicolored square and was originally built in 1552 as part of the town prison. The highest point is accessible by 127 steep steps and has a 360° view over the surroundings. While the castle is on a smaller hill and has lots of historical details to offer, the passage of time and declining budget is visible in the streets of Kremnica and the castle is no exception.

Very beautiful place worth visit when passing through Kremnica. The price is fair, there are some relics inside, the view from the church tower is great.

Soviet & Romanian Army Dead Heroes Memorial or Monument to the fallen heroes of the Soviet and Romanian armies

4.0
(71)
The Soviet & Romanian Army Dead Heroes Memorial, also known as the Monument to the fallen heroes of the Soviet and Romanian armies, has a rich history. The black obelisk was erected in 1945 to honor soldiers who perished during the liberation of Besztercebanya in World War II. It stands as a solemn tribute to those who fought bravely for their countries.
A monument that is very flattering for a Romanian-born person. It was an unexpected surprise to see thanks to be written in Romanian language on a Slovak monument
Stelian S — Google review
Weird to see a hammer and sickle on such a prominent space, located right on the obelisk in the busy city center. However it's part of the history and I'm all for it. Main sight in the square, notable from all angles. Must see. For the Soviet and Romanian soldiers who died in WW2.

BOUNCE PARK 17

Amusement park ride

BOUNCE PARK 17 in Banská Bystrica is the largest sports and amusement park in Slovakia, offering over 50 different attractions on a spacious 4000m2 area. It's a trendy place with options for kids and adults to enjoy, including a jump park that's great fun for all ages. The trampoline park features various amenities like trampolines and an airbag, while parents can relax at the wonderful restaurant overlooking the children's play area.
Amazing fun for the family! We went midweek during the school holidays, it wasn't too busy, but had enough people to have some atmosphere. Staff were friendly and helpful. I'm sure if we were local, the kids would love a birthday party with their friends, but not something on the cards for us - was an awesome visit nonetheless, bit of trampolining, bit of climbing, bit of ninja course, bit of chill. Plenty of viewing space for adults who don't want to join in (but it is soooo much fun!)
Justin G — Google review
For the money you pay, one would expect a better service. While jumping facilities are ok, having to go to the toilets in your socks is a terrible rule. Staff need some training in how to treat customers - not single one has been nice and share a smile with us. Service in the café? Honestly, the worst I've ever experienced for the money - a plastic bottle of mineral water without a glass and I was told to come and get my coffee after it is made, although there were two waitresses, a half empty café, so clearly there was no reason for them not to be able to serve it for me. When I was taking my coffee, they were happily chatting - the staff is obviously more valued here than the customers.

Awesome spot when kids have too much energy! Plenty of activities for all ages of children. We enjoyed it so much that we stopped by a second time on our way home, and our kids absolutely love it. Great variety of fun activities that keep children of all ages entertained and engaged. Highly recommended for families! Only problem was to find a parking spot.
Stano B — Google review
We came here with local friends. Being from the US the prices here are super high to what we are used to and we found it crazy that each area needs additional ticket/money. We are used to just one entry price which includes whatever areas are inside. It made it a little confusing for using a bracelet each time to get in and out (not used to keep track of children, but to make sure payments are correct). Also the price being for just one hour is high. The cafe was nice and good prices and the guy working upstairs super nice!! The kids had fun a ND we enjoyed sitting together while the kids got to play.

Easy accessible from a near Highway. Parking is big but you pay. Possible to pay by card. Arena is nice but a bit expensive compared to other similar places.
Tomáš B — Google review
Park is really big and nice, but also very crowded. It is hard to get on and use every attraction with so many children there at the same time. Also, it is mostly for bigger children and it lacks animators.
Daniel H — Google review
Place where can you or your family have a good times. From small children through youth to adults. You can jump, play footbal, some pc games, or have kids party and parents can have coffe, or some snacks. You can buy little bit cheaper tickets through Zľavomat.

We came with 2 kids and bought tickets to kids and jumb area. Very affordable prices. Note that you need to buy special socks for jumping area. There is a cafeteria where you can buy drinks, cakes and simple street food. Everything was perfect. Staff was very helpful and friendly. Nice change compared to regular service you get in svk.

Quite nice place to site close to the fontaine and drink beer or eat pizza. Good pub. But I do not recommend this as restaurant. Not at all. At 12:45 on Saturday they were not sure if is kitchen serving. Four dishes were ready in 45min but served sequential. Good practice is to serve all guests at once. Third dish was brought when first one was already eaten. And half of mine meat was burned to the coal and tasted really bitter. I ask for exchange. I felt really sorry for chief

Can't really comment on the food. Waitress got the order wrong. Food takes quite a while to arrive so ran out of time to get the actual dish I ordered. Mistakes happen... I don't blame anyone (although it was avoidable by just confirming it). Initially they apologised but then they doubled down by being rude when went to pay for drinks. First and last time I'll go here. Do yourself a favour and eat somewhere else, you might even get someone polite serving you.

It offers a pleasant atmosphere for both lunch and dinner, making it suitable for various occasions such as work appointments or romantic dates. The meals served are extremely delicious, with generous portions that will leave you satisfied without feeling hungry. Although the prices for food and drinks may be slightly higher, they are justified by the high quality of the dishes served.

Urpín, located in Slovakia, is a forested slope easily accessible from the city center with multiple trails and stunning panoramic views from its summit. The hike starts from Banska Bystrica railway station and takes you through switchbacks, where you may encounter fellow hikers and educational boards along the route. The trail features attractions such as a house for insects, a wooden carillon, and a fire pit for grilling.

Serpentines will help you overcome the first height meters, there are two shelters and a couple of information boards along the way. It is only a short distance to Urpín and the viewpoint. A pleasant walk that even children can handle. The Literary and Music Museum in Banska Bystrica is a one-of-a-kind museum in Slovakia and Europe. It specializes in documenting the lives of prominent figures from the literary and music world. The museum features an extensive collection of puppets, including those crafted by Mirko Cobrda, as well as instruments from around the globe. Visitors can enjoy a private tour where they can try out various musical instruments.
We are two musicians, we came to ask if it's worth it just to see the music part. The staff was very nice and patient and they gave us a private tour, showed us a special collection of instruments from around the world. They let us try out all the instruments! Another room shows a collection of Slovakish folk musical instruments, and at the end there was a nice video showing the Slovakish instruments played. Definitely an unusual experience 😊

Nestled in the heart of Banska Bystrica, the Evangelic Church stands as a serene sanctuary that evokes personal memories for many locals. With its simple yet striking classical architecture dating back to 1806, it offers a refreshing contrast to the more ornate Gothic and Baroque structures nearby. The Evangelic Church in Banská Bystrica is a place full of my personal memories, as I used to walk past it almost every day. Its architecture is simple yet beautiful, and seeing it always gave me a sense of calm and familiarity. Interesting fact: This Evangelic church was built in the early 19th century (1806) in the classical style, which makes it quite unique compared to the Gothic and Baroque churches in the city. What’s special is that it was originally built without a tower, since at that time Evangelical churches in the Habsburg monarchy were restricted in their design. The tower was only added later, after the restrictions were lifted.

Parkovisko Kralicka tiesnava is a small parking area near a sign that can accommodate about 6 cars. The trail is not very long and changes quickly, leading to the entrance of the gorge on the other side of the road. It's a pleasant walk to the waterfall, suitable for families with children even in winter. However, caution is advised as some parts may be slippery.

(Translated by Google) We got there early in the morning. Around half past ten. So no one anywhere. The parking lot near the sign can accommodate about 6 cars. Against two. Since the track is not very long, it changes quickly. Don't expect any buffets and hamburgers. The entrance to the gorge is on the other side of the road. Depending on which side you stop on 😀😀😀. After a few meters you have to cross a small footbridge to the other side of the stream. The marking is not very visible. But the fact that they don't care too much about it also has its own charm. I don't dare to guess whether it is for children. But there are two more challenging places. Otherwise, I recommend it. The route is about two km there and back. The opportunity to look at the waterfall from below and from above is amazing. Although the waterfall itself is only 7 meters. And the water is terribly cold 😁😁😁😁. (Original) Prišli sme tam skoro ráno. Okolo pol desiatej. Takže nikde nikoho. Na parkovisko pri tabuli sa zmestí asi 6 áut. Oproti dve. Keďže trada nieje moc dlhá rýchlo sa to tam strieda. Nečakajte žiadne bufety a hamburgarne.

From the parking lot towards the waterfall, the wider part of the "gorge" has to be searched for the sign. From interesting places, the trail goes up and you practically can't see anything, just a stream here and there. This gorge is marked as an educational trail, but there is only one sign at the beginning below the parking lot. Before the waterfall, there is a turn to it with a slope down and back. At this turn, there was a bench. There is also a view of the waterfall, but the path leading to the rock is so narrow that children and elderly people can fall down on the right and left side. The footpath will take you to the private grounds of the cottages. If you don't want to return via a dull route, there is nothing left but to return through the village along the main road to the parking lot for about 40 minutes. 200m of Malachovská tisňava and the parking lot there is more attractive than "Králická tisňava" which no one cares about anymore. Táto tiesňava je označená ako náučný chodník, no je tam len jedna tabuľa na začiatku pod parkoviskom. Pred vodopádom je k nemu odbočka so strminou dolu a späť. If you're looking to immerse yourself in the authentic tastes of Slovakia, look no further than the Slovak Restaurant and Pub. Nestled in Banska Bystrica, this charming eatery beautifully blends tradition with a cozy ambiance that reflects the region's rich mining history. While it may be a bit tricky to find—hidden behind a narrow corridor leading down to its basement location—the journey is well worth it. The restaurant boasts generous portions of imaginative Slovak cuisine that will delight your palate.
The service is quick and kind. The atmosphere of the place is more like a cave. There weren't many. Portions are huge. Difficult to find the place. There is only one door from the square. After a 10-20 meter corridor there is a door to the basement, you have to go down here. We were in a long trip, it was perfect place for us.

Nice place, typical for the region's mining history. Reasonable price range, nice personnel. However, I am putting one star down for the same problem, which is common among most of the underground restaurants - no fresh air intake or ventilation. This is really a problem, especially during my visit, when the outside air was really wet, and the restaurant was halfway occupied.

Food and price were good, ordered food it took over an hour. Found out that the reason was because our waitress was eating her own lunch. At least have someone else bring out the food
Nick S — Google review
I tried it several times, for a Slovak restaurant with Slovak cuisine style pretty tasty and even imaginative food, very basic sitting although on the main square (nice views), balanced menu that one can always pick from. Slightly limited choice of beers, little local craft beer variety. Hopelessly full in the summer, average staff friendliness (Slovak style, alas, on the edge of being rude sometimes), pretty long waiting for the waiters and all the "bring menu" "order drinks" "order food" "anything else" "we'd like to pay" procedure. Although I appreciate the possibility to pay at the cash desk, splitting the bill. Toilets sometimes found without soap or paper towels - in the busy hour.

The hotel is clean and well kept but you hit your head on everything. My boyfriend is taller than me and I felt bad for him more because you literally hit your head on everything in the room especially the lights. It’s like your scared to go to the bathroom at night because you’ll get a concussion or pee in bed 😅 I believe the light can be pulled up and not so low. But yea my head hurts for getting knocked in the head by the short ceiling and the short lights other than that it’s nice also I felt like I was in a Catholic dorm room lol

Sure! Here's a polished version of your review, formatted nicely for Google: We came when the place was fairly empty, so we got our food quickly. It was super good — hot, tasty, and full of flavor! The taste was spot on and the service was attentive. There was a small misunderstanding due to the staff’s limited English, but it was all sorted out in the end. Overall, a great experience! Let me know if you'd like to make it more casual, formal, or add specific dish names.

A great quick lunch stop, we had the smash burger and the chicken poke bowl. Delicious meal and friendly staff, English speakers too.

Tom Yum was nice but udon, massaman curry and fried cheese was average, I would not order it again. Next time we have to try the burgers, they looked yummy…lychee lemonade was absolutely tasteless.

My mouth is loving me after having lunch here today. Good size interior dining area with around 12 tables of mixed capacity (2 to 8 seats), feels cozy and comfortable, staff are welcoming, friendly and helpful. Service was quick. Quality of food is excellent. Can recommend coming if you are looking for street food style eats.

We had a group of 7 for lunch. Food was really good and the staff were nice. They have an outdoor area that was good to sit in on a sunny day. The catered for gluten free really well, the menu was easy to understand with all allergens. The massaman curry was delicious and the burgers were great. The bao buns had a heap of flavour as well. The pad Thai was ok. It was good pricing for what you get. Would recommend 👌

Title: Unfortunate Dining Experience I rarely find myself motivated to make a negative review, but our dining experience this time compelled me to share our story, particularly for the benefit of other travelers. We visited this restaurant due to its high ratings on Google Maps, and its seating area looked interesting, but were disappointed. The service was slow, with our food taking over 30 minutes to arrive. To make matters worse, they forgot one of our sandwiches. When we informed the staff, they treated it as a new order without any apology. The replacement took another 35 minutes to arrive, obviously reflecting that they gave it no priority, and worse they brought it with no acknowledgment of the delay. To make things worse, she made no response when I complained about the horrible delay. Both incidents reflected a pattern of poor service, which was surprising given the few tables being served (photos attached). This experience was far from our expectations and I felt the need to share it to caution other travelers, particularly foreigners. We will not be returning. Overall Rating: 1/5

This is a great place if you'd like to try various street food like meals. They have a wide variety from Burgers to Pad Thai or Udon. During our stay in Banska Bystrica we visited multiple times and every time it was a treat. They also offer a nice variety of beers so it's also good as a place to eat and enjoy a drink. The quality of the food was on par and all the dishes we had were tasty and exceded our expectations!

Pizza restaurant
Nestled away from the hustle and bustle of the city center, Pizza Domcek is a charming local pub that exudes a cozy atmosphere, especially during the winter months when a warm fire crackles in the background. This delightful spot offers an impressive selection of pizzas alongside refreshing draft non-alcoholic beers and various lagers. The friendly staff always greet you with smiles, making your visit even more enjoyable. While their pizzas are certainly noteworthy, many patrons rave about the salads being equally exceptional.
We had very good pizza and a very nice salad too. Good quality for a good price.

Great wee place away from the city centre. Local pub with Cosy atmosphere especially with fire on over winter season. Pizza is good and they've got draft non alcoholic beer and good selection of other type of draft lager. Lovely staff friendly and always with smile on the face. Recommended I'll be back ...
