Glenmore Forest Park

4.8
(4878)
Glenmore Forest Park is a stunning protected landscape featuring lakes, hills covered in heather, and pine forests. It offers a variety of outdoor activities such as hiking, water sports, and wildlife viewing. The park is located on the shores of Loch Morlich, a freshwater lake with sandy beaches and a yacht club. Visitors can enjoy breathtaking views of the Northern Cairngorms from the award-winning beach at the foot of the mountains.
We did a circular walk up to the green loch and it was beautiful. We did it in reverse so the way down was pretty steep but beautiful views down and of the mountains as well as really good for hearing birds like crossbills but didn’t manage to see any. The loch was so beautiful and vibrant, the only downside was how busy it was with groups of people who used it as a loud chatting station. The walk back on the main path was much easier and flatter but still beautiful forest. We also stopped in the cafe/visitor centre on the way back and had cake which was really good and lovely staff.

We left the car there today. The pay and display machines were out of order, so we didn't need to pay. Overall, there are plenty of parking spaces 👌👍. We went for a 25 km hike to Bynack More and Barns of Bynack, which took us almost 7 hours. Along the way, we stopped at the beautiful Green Loch. Check out some photos from this trip, which I’ve attached below the review. It was wonderful 👍👌⛰️🏞🏴❤️🙂.

Beautiful green loch with lovely trails. Highly recommend. Walks are not tricky and very rewarding. Make sure to bring bread for the ducks in the loch! Can swim there but there are leeches.
Beth M — Google review
A beautiful place to visit no matter what the time of year is. The park is free to enter and offers easy walking trails. The parking is limited, especially along the roadside, but there is a pay and display carpark available. However, we parked at the Pine Martin pub for free and walked down from there. The forest offers panoramic views and I would recommend visiting the Green Lake so called because of its emerald coloured water. Be advised that from late spring to early summer the midges can be rather annoying so I would recommend face nets and sprays.
Andrew O — Google review
Beautiful hike with stunning forest and mountain views! The trails are well-marked, peaceful, and perfect for all levels. A truly refreshing experience — highly recommend!
Rushkhan N — Google review
We did a 9km hike with 800m of hight and it was amazing to see how well the park is kept even at 800m the paths were being maintained amazingly. I would definitely go back!

The Cairngorm Reindeer Herd, located in the Scottish Highlands, is a unique and enchanting experience for nature enthusiasts and families. It is home to Britain's only free-ranging herd of reindeer. Visitors can join daily guided hill trips to interact with these majestic creatures in their natural habitat. The tour takes you on a scenic journey into the Cairngorm Mountains where you can feed and pet the friendly reindeer.
Second time visiting. It's a wonderful experience. The walk up the hill is short and beautiful, with a bridge crossing quite a big stream. The enthusiasm of the staff is heart warming. Best of all is getting to feed the reindeer where you can feel just how soft their noses are. Definitely book if you are in the area.
Autekre 2 — Google review
Simply amazing. The hike wasn’t that long or hard, and the scenery was stunning. We got to be up close and personal with a ton of reindeer. My whole group enjoyed feeding them and taking a TON of pictures. Kate and Lottie were informative and answered all of the questions we had about the reindeer. I definitely recommend booking a hill tour hike in advance for your group. It’s an absolute must for a trip through the Cairngorms!
Kirstin C — Google review
We had a fantastic few hours with the herd, such a brilliant experience. The three herders we had were so informative and answered all of our questions without hesitation. The walk to the herd was fantastic in itself, beautiful scenery, and the 30 second shower of rain we had made the most glorious rainbow. Worth every penny
Vicky D — Google review
An amazing experience seeing the reindeer up close and feeding them. It's a bit of an uphill walk to get to them but well worth it. If you're bringing a campervan, park on the road when you get to the reindeer centre as the car park has a really sharp turn on the exit. You're only at the centre for a short time before driving to another car park to begin the walk up to the herd. Absolutely recommend this reindeer experience!
Heather H — Google review
Wonderful experience, the reindeer nose is so soft and docile. I am sure the kids will be thrilled with the encounters, no need to travel to Scandinavian country to experience. There are multiple sessions each day from 11am, website advised pre-booking is essential. A short walk to the free ranging area. Also if you take the fork, there is a nice short trail, don't miss it since you are here.
Khin — Google review
Fabulous experience doing the hill walk and meeting 35 reindeer up close. Our guides Beni and Maisey were super knowledgeable and friendly. We visited on a gorgeous July day, so the walk was pretty easy and mostly dry. You must be comfortable with lots of trail stairs (made of rocks), but otherwise not very strenuous. This was one of the highlights of our Scotland visit.
Christine I — Google review
I’ll admit I was a bit worried this might turn out to be a tourist trap, but I’m so glad we went. Getting up close with the reindeer and feeding them was absolutely worth it – after all, when’s the next time you get to do that in your life? Big thanks to Amy and Daisy for such a brilliant experience. We loved every minute. It’s a great activity for big kids (adults) as well as little ones. And just to note: the climb up is really short – even the kids in our group managed it with no trouble.
Ewa C — Google review
Just a fantastic experience! We purchased our tickets in advance. My spouse is the one who really wanted to do this when we were up within the Cairngorms, and boy was it worth it. The hill hike maybe 20 minutes hike from the Sugar Bowl Car Park, and there are several climbs with stone steps along it. Once you reach the fenced area you will walk on a wooden walkway to reach the herd. We had light rain the day we went, and one of our guides, Lotti was wearing red rain gear. She fed the reindeer cattle feed from a green sack, and during this process she slung the sack over her shoulder…and for a moment I thought she could had been Santa Claus🤣 Every one has an opportunity to hand feed the reindeer and afterwards you can stay with the herd as long as you like.

Loch Morlich Watersports is a fantastic destination nestled in the beautiful settings of the Cairngorms and Glenmore Forest. It offers a stunning beach and a variety of water activities such as kayaking, canoeing, sailing, and paddle boarding. The instructors are friendly and provide lessons for an enjoyable experience on the water. The location provides breathtaking views of the forest, mountains, and the loch's beach.
would highly recommend when staying in Aviemore or nearby for a fun and peaceful activity! My mom and I rented a canoe for about 1.5 hours and paddled most of the circumference of the Loch. It was extremely serene and beautiful. The worker there was also very friendly and talked to us for quite awhile about the area and the ski resort. It was a great way to spend our morning!

First paddleboarding lesson at Loch Morlich this morning! Fabulous weather and a very patient and informative Kevin took me and another couple out onto the loch. He was great - very friendly and encouraging, especially as I was nervous about keeping my balance! But I didn't fall in and I can't wait to get back to practise on my own board. Kevin is to be highly recommended as an instructor and all the staff at the centre were very friendly and welcoming. Well done Loch Morlich!

Had a wonderful birthday celebration with our family whose ages ranged from 3 to 60 years old! We took 3 boats out onto the Loch and enjoyed the beautiful and spectacular scenery from the water. The owners also prepared the most delicious bbq for us all which was scrumptious and competitively priced. We had great coffees and teas too and all the staff were friendly and attentive throughout. This all contributed to making my birthday celebrations very memorable and special . Sincere thanks to all at Loch Morlich Watersports . Highly recommend and will revisit for sure. 👌

I had a truly positive experience at the watersports centre, thanks to the wonderful team — especially Cara, Neil Senior, and Neil Junior. Cara was exceptionally kind and helpful. On my very first day trying kayaking, the weather turned bad shortly after I got into the water, and I had to return after just 15 minutes, even though I had paid for a full hour. Cara was so understanding and accommodating — once the weather improved, she kindly allowed me to return and complete the rest of my session. Her warm attitude and helpful nature really made my experience special. Neil Senior was also incredibly kind and understanding. There was a small issue with my payment on one occasion, but he didn’t make a fuss at all and allowed me to use the facilities anyway, trusting that I would settle it later — which I did. His easygoing and respectful approach really stood out. Neil Junior was equally supportive. While driving the speedboat, he took the time to demonstrate the correct posture and technique for kayaking, which was extremely helpful for a beginner like me. His guidance made a big difference in my confidence and enjoyment on the water. Altogether, the team created a warm, welcoming environment, and I’m really grateful for the kindness and professionalism they showed. I highly recommend the watersports centre and this amazing team to anyone interested in water activities.

We had a lovely morning kayaking around the loch. The two fellas who work there (didn't catch their name, unfortunately) were very friendly and helpful. It was nice having a little chat and get useful information about the surroundings. As a tourist I find it very convenient that you can hire a boat as well as full equipment (life vest, wetsuit, neopren slippers, dry jacket etc.) and I highly appreciate that safety is highly valued here. Many casual kayakers underestimate the risks of going upon water. Especially unfamiliar ones. We can highly recommend hiring your boat here and would definitely come again.

Paddle boarding lesson for myself and my son. Fantastic instruction from Jake and an excellent setup all round. We had to reschedule the session due to strong winds and the centre handled it all without any hassles. Will definitely revisit in future.

Rothiemurchus Estate is a Highland estate that boasts a 13th-century island castle and offers abundant wildlife and outdoor activities. The estate stretches from the River Spey at Aviemore to the Cairngorm summit plateau, featuring one of Scotland's largest remnants of Caledonian forest, home to red squirrels, capercaillie, and Scottish wildcats. Visitors can also explore nearby farm shops in Grantown on Spey and Nethybridge for local produce.
A wonderful experience feeding the deer! My children truly enjoyed getting close, touching, and feeding them. The guide was very kind, shared interesting information about the deer, and answered all our questions with patience. We highly recommend this activity for visitors, especially families and Arab tourists, to enjoy this unique experience in Scotland

We attended the Highlands Falconry and that was an incredible experience! The birds were so gorgeous and it was truly a once in a lifetime experience to be able to handle them. We love it!! After a quick lunch at the barn, we hiked around Loch an Eileen. this was an easy hike with a lovely wide path and beautiful views of the loch. from the car park it was 3.5 miles loop.

We visited the hairy coos safari as a family of 4. We all enjoyed it and it was a good experience for the kids. We also hired bike to go around the area. Overall the staff are friendly and very welcoming. We will definitely come back soon and try more activities that could suit my kids age.

We did the Coo Safari. It was awesome! Lots of hands on experience with young cows (2 years and under) Vickie was our guide and was very knowledgeable of the property and of course the Coo's! They were so cute. The roads were well maintained and easy to follow along with any vehicle. We would definitely do it again!

What a wonderful experience. Entirely worth doing and suitable for all ages (56 year olds) and we felt fully worked out after. The guides Ben and Olly were so attentive and knew how to support the group and encourage us. It is a nippy cold experience, but you hardly notice it when you’re so caught up with the rapids.

Strathspey Railway, located in Aviemore, offers heritage steam locomotive rides between Aviemore and Broomhill. The train features a dining car where visitors can enjoy afternoon tea during the journey. The railway is accommodating for families and even allows dogs on board, except in first class and dining carriages. With only three departures per day, it's recommended to catch the first departure around 11am and return on the latest train at approximately 3pm.
Took a trip on old steamy - the Strathspey Highlander from Aviemore and back which was a nice holiday experience. We chose the observation carriage which was comfortable, spacious and not busy on the day. It was however, roasting as the sun filled the carriage with its heat through the numerous windows. We were served tea, coffee and biscuits on our journey as we relaxed taking in the scenery. Stops were Boat of Garten and Broomhill which gave us the chance to stretch the legs for 10 minutes.

Didn’t ride the train this time, but loved visiting the Strathspey Railway. Friendly volunteers, great atmosphere, and even got platform tickets for some photos with my 85mm lens. Knowing it’s run entirely by volunteers makes it even more special. Can’t wait to come back for the full trip!

I went to ride on the steam train from Aviemore to Broomhill and return with my parents when we were on holiday in Scotland and I am very pleased to say that our experiences were absolutely amazing! The volunteers were very friendly and helpful, the steam locomotive and carriages that we rode on were all immaculate, the views of the beautiful countryside was absolutely stunning and the journey was restful! Thank you to the volunteers for their amazing hospitality and service!

Brilliant experience going on the steam train, we sat in standard seats but ther is a trolly service. Afternoon tea is available too. Loved it. Got off at Boat of Garten and had a wonder then got next train back. The Observation carriage is brilliant too.

The train ride itself was good. I would have like to have someone announce when we passing something of significance. A big deal was Mde about keeping your tickets, but they were never checked. Nice scenic train ride though.

Beautifully presented station and friendly attentive staff we had a really enjoyable day on a beautiful line. Lots of fantastic information on the leaflet provided and a great little catering unit comes through the coaches definitely recommend.
Sammi R — Google review
Today only we did this ride. Had originally bought the standard family ticket for 55 pounds, but at the station I was given an option of upgrading it to observation compartment with open views, comfort seating and complimentary tea/coffee for additional 7.5 per person. I took the chance, and glad that I did. It was one of the best experience and our hostess Janet was simply awesome. Train ride is very comfortable and you get 2 breaks at Boat of Garten and at Broomhill to get down. At Broomhill you get to watch the engine switching and pics upclose with the engine driver also.. All in all a wonderful steam ride..

In the historic parish of Duthil, you'll find the Old Pack Horse Bridge, a quaint historical bridge dating back to 1717. Despite some damage over the years, it still retains its characteristic appearance. The bridge is located in Carrbridge and offers a glimpse into the past with its charming design and nearby attractions like the Old Parish Church and Churchyard.
Lovely village, gorgeous bridge and river walk. The village has facilities which were free to use and local cafes with great food choices.

What a cool piece of history that’s been preserved! Stairs and a landing with rail to get a close up view. Parking is best not in front of the viewing spot. Turn right after reaching the road and park up the street. The tourist traffic is a real hazard for the tiny town!
Kerry H — Google review
We visited the bridge on our hike through Ellan Wood on the fringes of the village of Carrbridge and then along the riverside section to the much photographed pack horse bridge. This 2.75 mile walk circuit is described in detail within the walkhighlands app and is considered an easy one. The hike begins and ends at the Ellan Wood Car Park, The trail passes the Lookout Tower that is within the Landmark Forest park, through Glencharnoch Wood, passes many wood carvings, crosses a suspension footbridge over the River Dulnain, follows along the river and then up to the main road beside the remarkable old pack horse bridge. After photographing the old packhorse bridge we then walked up Station Road, to the entrance to Ellan Woods car park. The old pack horse bridge had been built in 1717, and was damaged during the awful floods of 1829 which is know as the Muckle Spate.
Mark E — Google review
Fantastic spot it is amazing that the bridge has been in place for so long. Obviously very popular there is ample parking about 100 meters beyond the bridge - no point trying to park on the village main street.

The Old Packhorse Bridge (also known as the Coffin Bridge) in Carrbridge, Scotland, was built in 1717. This narrow stone arch bridge, spanning the River Dulnain, was commissioned by Brigadier-General Sir Alexander Grant to enable funeral processions to reach Duthil Church during floods. It is the oldest surviving stone bridge in the Scottish Highlands and a Category B listed structure since 1971. Its parapets were lost to floods in the 19th century, but the core arch remains intact.
Shane G — Google review
The Old Packhorse Bridge in Carrbridge is a beautiful and historic spot that’s well worth a visit. Built back in 1717, it’s the oldest stone bridge of its kind still standing in the Highlands. It was originally constructed to help people (and packhorses!) cross the River Dulnain on their way to funerals at Duthil Church. Although the bridge was partly damaged by floods in the 19th century, what remains is incredibly atmospheric. The arch rising over the river makes for stunning photographs, especially with the surrounding scenery. It’s amazing to think this fragile-looking structure has survived more than 300 years of Highland weather! Parking is nearby, and it only takes a short walk to reach the viewing point. Definitely a must-see landmark if you’re exploring Aviemore and the Cairngorms area.
Wolfgang J — Google review
Beautiful stop along our drive through Scotland! If you’re nearby it’s worth stopping to see - there’s a parking lot a few blocks away!

Cute little historical landmark, can take photos from the bridge next to it or there are some steps down to a viewing platform at river level to get photos of the water flowing underneath it. Worth a visit and to incorporate with a walk around the woodlands close by.

Much of the produce served at this cozy cafe is grown & reared on the Rothiemurchus Estate.
I may have found the birth place of Sausage Rolls, or at least a center of excellence, a mekka if you will. And the flat white coffee, stop it! So happy right now I forgot to take a pic.

Very, very busy place with an efficient flow. Can feel a little stressful with the speed and crowd. Kind of a camp cafeteria vibe. You enter right next to where you order. But I believe you need to get seats first. Look at the board and signs for the menu, inform the teen staff and they will start serving you. You need to prepare your tray. Or grab a sandwich and drink from the fridge. As you move down the counter, you get to the desserts on cake stands, and then move to the cashier counter for payment. Menu is pretty simple. We got a green curry with rice, and Cullen skink with cheese scone. It was pleasant. Dog friendly!
Sarah T — Google review
It was ok, slightly disappointing but this was quite late in the day so they'd stopped serving cooked food. I'd been up in the Cairngorms all day this was my first stop. Cake was not great (just too sweet and chewy for me) I think I'd been really looking forward to it, coffee was lovely, tuna baguette was ok though a little heavy, staff were lovely. Sorry, I try to find the positives.

Lovely cosy atmosphere. Amazing in winter when the fires are roaring away. The food is always amazing and you get plenty of it. Be prepared to wait a little as it can get busy but very worth the wait.

Walked in to the barn for a quick lunch after the reindeer tour. I hadn't had cullen skink yet during my Scotland trip so I had to try. It was piping hot and came with nice fresh bread and good butter. They were out of the cheese scones. Lots of potatoes and tasty smoked fish. Unique selection of drinks and chips too. Just the right size for lunch and staff was friendly. There is a place to put trays at the end of the counter.

The cheese scones are really good, super friendly helpful staff, our dog also recommends the sausages! It is a great dog friendly cafe serving simple yet delicious home made food
Elisabeth G — Google review
The food was fine, the cullen skink was very creamy however the sweet potato, coconut and chilli soup was lovely. The cheese scones and bread rolls were delicious with the bread rolls coming to us warm. My main complaint is the price, it was quite expensive. We were 10.50 for a bowl of cullen skink with a bread roll which is a bit on the expensive side considering the soup wasn't the best. The restaurant itself was very cozy and dogs are allowed in as well which is always a plus for us. There was no issues with the staff, everyone was lovely. The menu also had a fair selection catering well for both vegetarians and gluten free people.
Gabbi — Google review
My first visit to The Barn and overall I would say it was a positive one. The link sausage roll was very disappointing but I’m mindful we visited at 11:15 and they stop serving breakfast at 11:30. The roll itself was okay but the beef link sausages were awful. I’m sure they tasted great when they were cooked some time before, but now at 11:15 they were dried out and barely warm. Now that’s out of the way I have to give credit for the cheese scones which were exceptional as was the mocha. Both were superb and as good as I’ve had anywhere. The three members of staff I had dealings with were all very friendly, helpful and a credit to the business. So yes, overall a good experience and I will definitely return in the future.

Great pub food in Aviemore, with fantastic staff who were welcoming and interested in our day. The pub is dog friendly, serving dinner for your pups. I'd recommend the macaroni and the kids meals. The haggis bon bons are lovely but I felt the chips were not the best. Overall it's worth a trip but I'm not sure I'd go for seconds.

Love stopping at Macdui's for fish & chips w/mushy peas when I'm visiting Scotland, but most especially on this trip because I got to meet sweet Alfie, the pub dog!! 🥰

We wanted to like this place. We really did. The server was a sweet heart and funny as hell. But oof the food. The nachos were thrown together in probably less than 10 seconds. My friend's burger looked and tasted sad. My veggie burger was forgettable. We arrived towards the end of the evening, so maybe the kitchen decided to mail it in with our table - hard to say.

First visit and we were very impressed.... Fabulous breakfasts! Full breakfast is one of the best cooked I have had in ages with everything just right... The avocado on sourdough is really tasty too. Welcome was great and staff friendly. We were in early, so easily seated. Worth phoning ahead if you are in a big group as there is not much they can do if they are already busy..... they really want to look after you so make it easy for them! Would recommend and we are going back!

Had the baked potato and was really disappointed, not with the filling, that was ok, as you can see from the pictures it was also burnt and totally inedible, disappointed as I was really hungry.. It wasn't white and fluffy like a baked potato normally is, it was yellow and tasted like ones that have been reheated from the day before, also over half of the skin was burnt and totally inedible.. the only reason I ate as much as I did is because I was absolutely ravenous, luckily both the filling and side salad were good, but the potato itself let the whole meal down.. I'd expected better from somewhere like this, as the prices are quite high for a day old reheated badly burnt spud.. and be prepared to pay a lot here too for any meal, most meals&drinks work out at around £15-20 for adults and £10 for kids.. so a family of 4 can easily pay over £50

Been in here a couple times now first time got the burger a couple of weeks ago, this time got avocado and eggs on toast with bacon, owner is friendly and chatty and the food was really nice a tad expensive for sitting in however can't fault the food & atmosphere busy wee place. Food 5 Atmosphere 5 Price 3.8/5 Experience 5 Overall rating I'd say 5 personally.

Bought apple cinnamon flapjack for takeaway. No prices shown on counter and found out when paying it was £5.25. Ouch. Lovely taste, great location. Unfortunately we are here for the week but can't justify that sort of price for a tray bake. Would have returned for more had the prices been better. Hope this is useful feedback.

Nice looking place from the outside and the interior is nice. Decent coffee and service good, but it's all severely let down by the quality of the cooking and the use of cheap ingredients (we went in for cooked breakfast). They need to get a decent cook in the kitchen.

Nestled in the charming village of Carrbridge, Landmark Forest Adventure Park offers a perfect family-friendly destination with an array of activities to keep kids entertained. From thrilling rides and a monkey trail to nature walks and a dinosaur kingdom, there's something for everyone. The park also features a Treetop Trail for wildlife viewing, a fire tower, maze, and various nature trails. It strikes the right balance between entertainment and education without feeling tacky.
This is an amazing and fun place to go, no hidden fees just fun for all ages, We had a family trip 7 adults and 6 kids age ranging from 3 til 12. The kids loved every part - play park, water slides, maze, shooting range, tree top nets, dinosaurs and the illusion. The adults had fun doing the tree top course and the sky dive. Everything was amazing. The one problem from our visit was it was swarming with wasps. They were everywhere. Would recommend for any age 👌
Kayleigh M — Google review
Fun and good with kids - won't hold the all day but half or a bit more. Queues at peak time can see you wait anywhere from 10 to over 30 minutes - especially for the main attractions (water slides...). While there are multiple things to see and do, we felt we were coming back to a couple mainly, trying to balance queues waiting time and value! Few fast food stands with the quality you would expect from this type of place - nothing gastro of course!
Alex — Google review
A bit expensive but with the money. Great fun for the whole family. You can easily spend whole day there having fun on various attractions. Always book your ticket in advance online for a nice discount.

This was the first of many activities we booked before arriving to stay in Aviemore and what a great place to start off our holiday. Fun activities for kids and grown ups alike, I personally went out of my comfort zone and did the high ropes, having never done anything like that before it really tested me but so glad I did it, my daughter even did the skydive and showed great bravery

Landmark Forest Adventure Park is a fantastic day out for families! The panoramic views from the treetop tower are absolutely breathtaking, with sweeping forests and Highland mountains as far as the eye can see. The Cairngorms lookout point is both scenic and informative. Our kids had an amazing time, especially enjoying the water slide and the climbing facilities, which were safe, exciting, and well-designed. We also loved spotting butterflies in the tropical area. Beautifully maintained, fun, and full of natural beauty. Highly recommended for all ages.
Nigel D — Google review
Nestled in the forest, this Adventure Park is brilliant, we came just as the local schools went back which meant there were no queues at all. There is so much to do and explore as well as some really good activities. My 3 year old has told us it's his favourite place now thanks to the water slides. Great for all ages!
Adam L — Google review
Went with husband, you defenetly do not need children to enjoy an adventure and to go out your comfort zone. Staff were friendly, loads to do with or without children. Beautiful grounds, informative information especially about dinosaurs 🦕 my husband especially enjoyed the water ride and the bid trampoline. Butterfly 🦋 house has lots of other interesting things, defenetly worth a visit for young and old with or without children.
Mary M — Google review
A truly exceptional experience - the best amusement park in Scotland. Even standing on its own, the amusement park is incredible; however, once you couple that with the nature interwoven within, it is taken to a whole new level. FIVE STARS! COULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE MORE!

The artwork on display is truly remarkable, with an impressive collection of paintings available for purchase, including stunning depictions of Loch Morlich. We were parked in front of the studio and I just drawn to the store display. Everything in the shop was a display of cohesive art, ceramics, jewelry, and paintings. Very modern and contemporary. Was so glad to meet and chat with Jeff Buttress, the artist and the owner of the shop. Bought some gifts and definitely highly recommend for someone looking for a Highland made gift.

The well-maintained course provides a warm welcome from the clubhouse staff and members, making it a highly recommended gem for amateur golfers. With varying hole difficulties and beautifully maintained greens, this course is an absolute bargain and definitely worth a visit for any golf enthusiast visiting the Highlands.
Great course in a beautiful setting. Small clubhouse does good food too. Stunning on a nice day. £20 per adult visitor in summer.

Wonderful couple who were so inviting and kind. I came here on a whim, and they were so gracious to lend me clubs and get me right on. They allowed my boys to putt around and swing into the nets. Would recommend them wholeheartedly.

Cracking 9 hole course, stunning views, very well maintained. Challenging without being impossible for a (very!) amateur golfer. Lovely welcome from the couple in the clubhouse, was great to have a chat with them about the course and the area. Would definitely play here again on our next trip up to the Highlands. Many thanks for a great morning!

A nice little 9 hole course (£15 for 9) in Carrbridge. Some blind holes off the whites but it's in pretty good nick and there are some tricky ones where dropping a club will help keep your ball out of trouble. Note the position of the markers as are all the flags are of varying heights!

The cafe offers delicious coffee and cake while also showcasing local artwork, jewelry, and postcards on its upper floor. Cairn Hotel is a charming traditional lodging located in a village center, offering free WiFi and breakfast. The hotel features a restaurant and bar with outdoor seating, creating a cozy country pub atmosphere. Guests can enjoy the warmth of a log fire, malt whiskies, real ales, and affordable food. The hotel's terrace provides a suntrap for warmer days while an indoor fireplace offers respite on cooler days. Visitors can also play pool and engage with friendly locals.
We stayed at the Cairn Hotel as a family of four and absolutely loved our time there. The countryside views were stunning and created a peaceful, relaxing atmosphere. The staff were warm, friendly, and went out of their way to make us feel welcome. The food was a real highlight! The fish and chips were crispy and perfectly cooked, the sirloin steak was tender and juicy, and the steak & ale pie was rich, hearty, and full of flavor. Everything was delicious and beautifully presented. The hotel is also ideally located, with easy access to the Landmark Forest Theme Park, which was perfect for the kids. Cozy, clean, and welcoming—this place is a hidden gem. Highly recommended!

What a wonderful place to spend an evening! the meal was second to none (best fish and chips I’ve ever had, and that’s saying a lot coming from the coast). The service from the restauranteur and the waiting staff was brilliant. I regretted not getting a dessert! Great vibe in the pub afterwards. Cairn hotel is the perfect representation of Carrbridge, warm and friendly.

Just happened upon this beautiful quaint restaurant/bar while out for a drive. Super friendly staff, delicious food (steak and ale pie/ Angus burger with both of us having sticky toffee pudding) I cannot recommend this place enough. It’s also dog friendly. I’m sure my friend and I will be back

Everyone at the Cairn Hotel has been super lovely and attentive! The location is great, the staff are great, the food was great and so was the ale! A hidden gem on the edge of the Cairngorms with great pricing, will be absolutely staying here again if I’m ever nearby!

Really good pub with bar meals or a small restraunt if you want to be a bit more quiet. It probably needs a bit of a tidy up but that's part of the charm. Nice outside area for a drink on a sunny day. Not stayed in the rooms personally but people I know who have say they are OK.
Andrew F — Google review
Stayed here for a single night on my way further north. Had a small single room in the attic which fitted my needs with a double bed, though it was a little too soft for my preference, and a stand in shower, though the door on it didn't fully close, making it a little cramped. In addition, the handle on the rooms door was busted and made it hard to turn. However, there was free coffee, tea, hot chocolate, water and even a chocolate bar on arrival. TV with great reception and great WiFi. In the evening I had a nice stuffed chicken breast with roast carrots that was lovingly presented, and a Scottish take on an afogato with honey whisky which really nade the taste incredible. Breakfast was included in the price and it was a nice typical British and Scottish selection. Met several members of staff throughout my time there, all of whom were very friendly and helpful, especially the person I assumed was the manager who was able to help me with a few issues. There is also a Spar just down the road if you need supplies. Overall, it's a nice place to stay for the price, though I feel the room could have used some light maintenance.

Stayed here earlier in the year but forgot to leave a review. Overall a great stay and we'd definitely consider coming back The room was good. Hot water was off one night but it was explained this was an issue being fixed asap and it was back on fairly quick. Plenty of space and a good view. A little garden outside too. The food was great, and the restaurant/bar staff were fantastic. We had a toddler with us and they were great with her. Special mention to the Asian lady at breakfast (so sorry ,it's been 6 months I can't remember her name) she brought toys for our little girl and entertained her. Probably our daughter's highlight of the trip. The location was good. Driving distance from plenty to do but we stayed in the village. S few good woodland walks, a bird hide and a small art gallery. Also the steam train right outside! Reception was a bit hit or miss. Some staff were excellent (young guy with a beard?), some a bit confused or dismissive.

Absolutely loved our spacious twin room for myself & my son with fabulous views across the fields from our 1st floor room. Watched the steam trains rolling in too with a piper playing as the train arrived. Very close to Loch Garten where the Ospreys visit & nest. Well worth a visit. The Boat is a lovely, welcoming hotel with excellent, spacious rooms that are very comfortable. The food is excellent (especially the fish & chips) with a good range of choices for meat and non meat eaters. This hotel is an absolute delight, truly in classic Scottish style. It is set in a wonderful location, right next to a forest. In front of it, there is a charming little station for a steam train. The atmosphere is magical and full of character. A truly unique and unforgettable place.

We had a great stay having moved to one of the Garden Rooms which had an incredibly comfortable super-king bed. Breakfast was very good with a decent selection and option to order off a menu. Check in/out was quick and smooth. As others have said, the hotel could do with some investment/ renovation and the sound proofing in our room was not great but overall we were happy with our stay and had a good rest whilst walking the Speyside Way.

Day 3

Proximity is everything
For day 3, we bundled attractions like RSPB Scotland Loch Garten Nature Centre and Aviemore Ring Cairn and Stone Circle and other places within a close range, so that the time it takes to travel between all of them is less than one hour. Combined with the average time people spend there, your day should take about 7 hours.

Excellent place managed to see both male & female Ospreys in the nest. The male brought the female a tasty headless fish to impress her! The staff at the centre were very friendly and knowledgeable. It is well worth a visit at only £5 per person. All walks are free.
Carole H — Google review
Went a couple of times during our holiday. Firstly the welcome from all the staff was exceptional. All the facilities were clean. We overall left feeling slightly disappointed, it felt more like a country park than a nature reserve. Countless people walking dogs off their leads even though there are signs asking you not to. One owner was even allowing their dog to chase the birds. We arrived around 6am one day and there wasn’t a person in sight and the forest was alive with life. We were both shocked by the lack of bird hides, that for us is what this place needs urgently. All in all we had a nice time but it just needs some investment.
Chris B — Google review
There is efficient centre with camera directed as a nest of ospreys. On the way to get there you will see the small birds in the forest. Friendly volunteers giving a lot of information. Wheelchair accessible. At the other side of the centre, there are great walks near the loch.
Steven M — Google review
What a brilliant morning - if you think this is just about ospreys you are missing out! Amazing other birds, brilliant staff who are so enthusiastic and knowledgeable about lots of other topics. We got lucky and found a fungi expert who was brilliant with our mushroom enthusiast 8 year old and showed him loads of amazing fungi (and a dog vomit slime- very unusual and cooler than it sounds!). Really sparked his interest and then we found dozens of cool fungi in the forest. If your kids have any interest in the natural world this is a must.

Excellent place for viewing nesting osprey. They have multiple scopes trained on the nest. All the scopes are set at different heights - there are some at kid height, too. Costs 5 GBP per person to get in. We didn't see any osprey except the one in the picture, but I'm glad we stopped here.

The stone ring, which is approximately 4,000 years old, has been preserved by covering the inner section with soil. Despite being nestled in a residential area, it remains relatively accessible and intact.
It's wedged between a few houses right in town. Feels a bit random, but great the town preserved this history.

Nice place to visit with a short walk; unfortunately, some rocks are buried to protect them
Merry K — Google review
Absolutely fantastic to see this in the middle of modern houses and fire station. 5000 years old, I walked around, imagining the many people that have done that before me. Not a solstice, so no naked dancing and mead.
Kev D — Google review
Cool place, even though you can't really park here so we just made a quick picture and left.
Silvia B — Google review
Maybe the only thing to see in the city. Nothing impressive but cute
Valentine P — Google review
A short walk of 10 minutes from central shopping zone. A view into history is available.
Emma G — Google review
The setting in the middle of a housing estate ruins the context of this monumental. Clearly used to be larger. What's left is ok, worth a 5 min visit if you're passing close by.
Robert E — Google review
Well preserved ancient stone circle with an informative sign. It is located in a neighborhood, so felt a bit weird to park in front of someone's house essentially... Still well worth the visit.

Glenmore Lodge is a fantastic destination for outdoor activities training. The lodge offers world-class coaching in incredible surroundings, along with fantastic food and great accommodations. The staff are highly skilled and welcoming, providing excellent service and creating a supportive atmosphere. Whether it's white water kayaking, mountain biking, or bike maintenance courses, the instructors are knowledgeable and approachable. Guests have praised the lodge for its top-notch facilities and the enjoyable learning experiences they've had during their stays.
An incredible experience on the intro to winter skills course. Great food at the lodge, friendly and helpful staff, and exceptional kit to hire. The guide was fantastic and we learned so much safely even when the weather was challenging to say the least. Highly recommend.
Yasmeen H — Google review
Did a two day winter skills introduction course. The facility is excellent, the staff are friendly and the instructors very knowledgeable. We didn’t stay at the lodge as it was fully booked but the whole experience exceeded my expectations.
Dave — Google review
Apparently they’ve just started renting rooms through Airbnb, which I was very happy about! This place was exactly what we needed. Clean, good beds. Lots of rooms. Plus a washer and a really efficient drying room. They even have a bar in the facility that my friend really liked. They serve breakfast from 7:30-8:15 am, and it was decent enough. Really great location for hiking in the Cairngorms.
Linds P — Google review
Nice place to disconnect and enjoy the nature! Pros :) - room is shown as photo posted (though my room had a double bed + single bed), spacious and neat/clean - nice peaceful view from the room, windows can be open for fresh air - bedsheets and towel as are provided and clean - free parking on site - comes with breakfast the next morning and its buffet style, freshly cooked - staff are very friendly and polite - has several hiking trails around the lodge so is great to hike from the doorstep - shower is great, water pressure consistent and hot water supply is strong Cons :( - no TV, no fridge, no hair dryer, no amenities such as toothbrush toothpaste slippers or body wash/shampoo - no signal around the area but provided with wifi so is ok - breakfast was too quick and early personally (7:30-8:15) - walls are a bit thin, can hear the noises from corridor and if anyone open or close the door
Teresa V — Google review
we stayed at one of their chalets while hiking in the area. the biggest perk is definitely the ideal location in the heart of Cairngorm national park with beautiful scenery wherever you look. however, there are a few things that I just cant leave out. the chalet was spacious for our small family, had its own patio and it was wonderfully quiet, but it was, and I hate to say this, somewhat neglected. there were cobwebs and dust in every corner, the bedsheets had hair from other people in many, many places (yikes), the oven didn't work (at all), the wifi almost never worked (and there was no phone signal to begin with), the shower was moldy in many places and the front door would only shut with great force (or it would open again with the next breeze, which made our first night slightly scary). we still enjoyed our stay. the park is gorgeous, the fridge worked, we drove to Aviemore for dinner every night and had drinks at the Glenmore Lodge main building after (which can be reached on foot from the chalets), but I wouldn't stay here again under these conditions.

Great place to learn mountaineering from fully trained instructors before going out alone! Plus they provide free hire of top quality outdoor equipment if you don’t already have it.

Went on a tour with Timberbush Tours today and the guide and the driver, Robert and Brian were just fantastic, what a joy. I was the oldest in the group because it was mainly young people but I was there with my son's. The vibe in the group was just fantastic. How is it possible to make a 12 hour bus drive so amazing ? I know the answer. It is thanks to a Scottish humor 😄

One of the most beautiful walks and places near aviemore. We started from the Allt Ban carpark and wandered through a winter wonderland in the snow. Lock was frozen over and not it's normal gorgeous green colour but my god it was stunning. Allow an hour each way for a casual wander taking in the sights.
Kev P — Google review
Lovely walk with very little incline though there are a few but not anything too steep , it's a straightforward walk with a lovely spot for a picnic at the loch or just a place to sit and relax and enjoy the view
Shox W — Google review
A magical spot! The emerald-green water is stunning and the walk through the forest is peaceful and scenic. Definitely worth the hike — feels like a hidden gem in the Highlands
Rushkhan N — Google review
No documentation can do this scenery any justice. Looks straight out of a fairy tale, which makes sense due to the folklore of it! The path is very well-marked if you go from Glenmore visitor centre. Very easy to walk in and it may take you 45-50 minutes to reach the loch. Worth every inch of the walk, though!
Bintang Q — Google review
An Lochan Uaine (The Green Loch) Nestled deep within the majestic Rothiemurchus Forest, An Lochan Uaine, affectionately known as The Green Loch, is an absolute must-see for anyone venturing into the Cairngorms National Park. This isn't just a body of water; it's a vibrant, almost mythical, natural phenomenon that captivates the senses and sparks the imagination. From the moment you approach, the loch's namesake colour immediately grabs your attention. Its intensely emerald hue, a result of ancient fallen Scots Pines releasing their pollen into the water, is unlike anything you're likely to have witnessed before. On a sunny day, the green shimmers and dances create a truly ethereal spectacle against the backdrop of towering trees and rugged mountains. Even on a more overcast day, the colour retains its enchanting depth, a testament to its unique geological origins. The walk to An Lochan Uaine is an experience in itself. It is easily accessible from Allt Bann carpark just past the Visitors Centre, the well-maintained paths wind through fragrant pine forests, offering glimpses of stunning Highland scenery and the chance to spot local wildlife. It's a relatively gentle stroll, making it suitable for families and those seeking a peaceful escape into nature. As you get closer, the air seems to buzz with anticipation, building to the breathtaking reveal of the loch itself. Beyond its striking colour, An Lochan Uaine offers a sense of tranquillity that is profoundly restorative. The stillness of the water, the gentle rustle of leaves, and the fresh, crisp air combine to create a perfect environment for reflection and relaxation. There are plenty of spots along the shore to sit and simply soak in the atmosphere, perhaps enjoying a picnic or just observing the play of light on the water. For the more adventurous, the loch is a popular spot for wild swimming, though be warned – the water is, as you'd expect from a Highland loch, bracingly cold! For photographers, the opportunities are endless, with every angle offering a new perspective on this natural wonder. An Lochan Uaine isn't just a pretty face; it's a testament to the raw, untamed beauty of the Scottish Highlands. It's a place that lingers in your memory long after you've left, a vivid splash of emerald green against the wild canvas of the Cairngorms. If you're seeking a truly unique and unforgettable natural experience in Scotland, make sure An Lochan Uaine is at the very top of your list. You won't be disappointed.
Nerual G — Google review
Lovely walk which is about 1.5 miles from the reindeer centre, just off the main road. Great path to follow and relatively easy with a gently incline most of the way up.
Kevin B — Google review
Photos don't do it justice. When the sun hits the water, the colour really pops out. The walk starts from the Reindeer Centre and follows the old logging route up the hill. It took us about 45 minutes each way, if that. There is alternative access at Allt Mor Car Park by Hayfield which lessens the walk time if coming by car or bike. The forest itself is a beautiful pine forest with birch and willow scattered through. The path is generous and there are a couple of bridged streams to cross over. Once at the loch there is an elevated viewpoint and also some steps leading down to the waters edge. We set off at around 3pm and passed a lot of people on their way back so when we arrived, there was only 1 other couple there having a picnic at the far side. We stayed around an hour soaking up the atmosphere then headed back, getting caught in a heavy shower of rain that was over almost as soon as it started but soaked us to the skin anyway! If we'd had more time we would have carried on to the bothy for a look before turning back . Next time!

It's just magical. Even more magical ✨️ went for a week with daughter, as been going to Aviemore for years. One day we decided to go to the Loch with daughter, as my other dog came with us last year, he absolutely loved it, we lost him 💔 last October, so we wanted to go here to remember him 💔 One day was sunny, and one day, we were the only two people at the Loch, and it was snowing, this was one of the best times of my life, I have never been to the Loch and been the only two people their. If dreams come true, then this was truly magical ✨️ 💖

Nestled at the base of the Cairngorm Mountains, Loch Morlich is a picturesque freshwater lake renowned for its sandy beaches and scenic trails. The award-winning beach, situated 300m above sea level, offers stunning views and a range of activities including water sports and dining options. Surrounded by the pine forests of Glenmore, this non-tidal lake provides an ideal setting for swimming and outdoor recreation.

Loch Morlich is a beautiful spot in the Cairngorms with a rare sandy beach, clear waters, and stunning mountain views. Great for kayaking, paddleboarding, walking, or just relaxing. Good facilities nearby and easy parking. A must-visit if you're in the Highlands

Amazing place! Photographers dream. Doesn’t matter if it is summer or winter, beautiful view. We were walking around the lake. Instagrammable place. Summer time busy. If you are there bring some feed for a ducks.
Barbara O — Google review
This is the highest natural sandy beach in the UK and the water here is absolutely clean and perfect. The water and the loch bed are so clean that it takes any colour of the sky, and so it is crucial coming here on a beautiful day. When the sky is clear, the loch is the bluest blue you'll ever see, it is so surreal. The scenery is to die for and the walk around the loch is enjoyable and memorable with many spots for perfect photographs. At night, it is so dark around the loch you can see all the constellations so clearly. Plenty of parking spots nearby. My most favourite loch in Scotland.

We spend most of the day on the trails and then passed Loch Morlich on a way back to Inverness. I am happy we made a stop there. The lake was gorgeous with clean water and sandy beaches. There is a cafe and you can borrow a watersports equipment if you want. Parking was a bit of an issue. We didn't have change so after running around the lake a bit we got a signal reception and could pay it online.

Pizza restaurant
Pizzariach is a cozy eatery with a rustic ambiance, offering an array of pizzas with diverse toppings, as well as pasta and seafood dishes. While it primarily focuses on meaty options and may not offer highly imaginative combinations, the quality of its food is commendable. Customers have praised the restaurant for its efficient takeaway service, reasonable prices, and use of high-quality ingredients in crafting delicious pizzas.
The ladies working there were super friendly, ordered over the phone and they were really accomodating at sorting a vegan pizza option. The haggis pizza was excellent. Really thin, very fresh, excellent local pizza! Some good family deal options on their website too.

Delicious pizza from Pizzariach in Aviemore! Perfect for a family meal after an active day. We enjoyed a veggie option, a mega meat option and two cheese pizzas for our kids. We will definitely be back when we are next in Aviemore 🌟

We ate there, when we were on holdays in Aviemore. Those guys serve a quite good pizza. The staff looks so young, that my mates and me had a discussion about child labour 😅, but they are awesome. Even in busier times, we didn't have to wait to long. Or you order only and pick your stuff there. A great Pro is the gluten-free pizza! When they could arrange a vegan cheese alternative, this would be perfect! We had the Sweet Chili Haggis Pizza, a gluten-free Pizza with some toppings and the hot Pizza. All pizzas were great. So I can recommend them highly
Christian K — Google review
The 9 inch pizza I got was the smallest 9 inch pizza I've ever see called a "wee one". At £9.25 for the Margerita it's a total rip off!!! I asked to see box sizes before I chose 9 inch and wasn't told it wouldn't actually fill the 9 inch box. Disgusting ripping off customers like this. The service was nothing special and she should have told me this before I ordered and paid. Gave me a buzzing thing of sorts and had to ask what to do with it. She never said a word. No atmosphere as was just waiting for my very disappointing take away. Won't be back and would not recommend to anyone who's actually hungry.
Jean K — Google review
Ordered for collection at 19:20, arrived at 19:18 just as the pizzas were getting boxed. Absolutely spot on, can't beat a venue that is hot for time management. Food was tremendous, really good pizza, all high quality toppings, very tasty and cooked perfectly. They've got it dialled in by the seems of it. If we're ever back in Aviemore this will be on the list without doubt. Wish I had some photos to attach because they looked top tier. If there was a downside, it's the price. But hey-ho, good quality grub all the same.

Love the toppings of Woodland pizza with the ricotta, pesto and mushroom. The thin crust base is good and may have tasted better if it had not cooled after the 12 mins journey back to my B&B.

Andersons Restaurant is a top-notch dining spot that offers an unforgettable culinary experience. The food is described as exceptional, with a presentation that reflects the chef's dedication to quality. Guests appreciate the attentive and friendly service provided by the staff, particularly mentioning Claire for her warm welcome. The restaurant's bustling atmosphere adds to its charm, and diners can enjoy their meals both indoors and outdoors.
Dined in Anderson’s last night and enjoyed every bit of the experience. The service was top notch, the food was exceptional and the restaurant had a very nice atmosphere. The personal service when it came to the food by who I presume is the Head Chef was so lovely. I think he probably saw me smelling the cheesy sauce to cool down my chilli and came out to assist and explain! He then kindly mixed together a lovely spicy sauce for me to try. The portion was also huge! I had to leave half of it but it was so delicious. We were also super impressed with the bread board and padron peppers - they were not too salty but still perfectly cooked.

Been here a number of times but last night we went for the seafood platter. Incredible! Give them 24 hours notice and they will provide you an incredible feast. Super easy to do, we had it for 4 people and it was 👌🏻👌🏻 Well done guys! So glad this is on our doorstep Book in advance, help them manage their guests 😊

The steak was absolutely amazing. Beautifully tender, , prepared exactly as I ordered. I haven't enjoyed beef like this in a long time. Unfortunately, what completely disappointed me were the fries :-/ They were too oily and soft for my taste. The environment and the staff were very nice. The reservation was a good choice. Thanks

We stayed in Boat of Garten and dined at Anderson’s twice during our visit. The food was outstanding—succulent, fresh, and absolutely mouthwatering—paired with impeccable service that made each meal memorable. Jordan, the head chef, is clearly passionate and dedicated, with a real talent for creating dishes that are both beautifully presented and uniquely crafted. Anderson’s is a true gem, and we’ll definitely be returning the next time we’re in Scotland.

Lovely intimate restaurant in the heart of Boat of Garten. Service throughout was attentive, efficient and friendly. The food was excellent and a nice mix between bistro and pizzeria. The menu was varied but not extensive, and the food we had was delicious and well cooked. They also do takeaway wood fired pizza from a window at the side of the building and we’d definitely give that a try next time we’re in the area. We’d also visit the restaurant again to try out more of the bistro menu.

Top! Forget about local hotels, food quality is atrocious. This place is top tear! Quality, taste, lovely staff.. just top

Had a nice main meal here but I could not believe my eyes when the apple crumble was brought to the table. Absolutely appalling! I’m still in shock at what was served in front of me. The main meal was already expensive enough, so you’d think a pricey place would give you an unforgettable apple crumble especially charging £8 for it! We waited quite some time for it so we hoped it would be good and were looking forward to it until we saw this….. Tinned apple with water remains topped with cheap granola! Absolutely awful to serve this for such a price, let alone even half that price. So disappointing….

Fantastic pizzas! Ordered takeaway online and the pickup was ready when we arrived. Dough was nice and chewy, toppings were great. My favourite would probably be the Salami Piccante, I loved the chilli honey. The padron peppers were great too.
