Shiroi Koibito Park in Sapporo is a family-friendly destination that offers a variety of activities and attractions. Visitors can enjoy chocolate and cookie samples, explore exhibits showcasing the making of the famous Shiroi Koibito sweets, and even take a train ride through the park's garden area. The park also features a chocolate factory tour, cooking workshops, shops, cafes, and restaurants.
We didn't want to go here, but we're so glad that we did. Neither my wife nor I are great fans of sweets, but her family love them so we thought we should go here to buy some gifts. This was an excellent decision. We only visited the extensive free areas so cannot speak for the paid ones, but we had a wonderful time (aided in no small part by fantastic weather) and would definitely recommend that others also visit, whether they like sweets or not. The park is beautiful in a kitsch mock-european fashion with pleasant gardens full of roses. The animatronic displays were entertaining, and the park was spotlessly clean. When we visited, it was nearly October so the Halloween decorations were already out and appropriate music was being piped throughout the park. The shops were well played out and the produce was of a good quality. We enjoyed an ice cream and we're especially pleased by the customised biscuit tins that we were able to buy and which were ready in just 30 minutes. It was great to be able to buy so many gifts in one place saving us from having to constantly carry presents everywhere else we went during our trip.

It’s such a beautiful place! I visited in mid-October, right in the middle of autumn. The gardens were decorated with colorful flowers in full bloom, and the weather was just perfect. If you don’t plan to visit any of the special exhibition rooms, there’s no entrance fee — just strolling around, taking photos of the rose garden, fountains, and stunning architecture already makes the trip worth it. You only need to pay a small parking fee, which isn’t expensive at all. When you get tired from walking, there are also tasty food and drinks available to enjoy.
Indira J — Google review
Wow, what a fun place! And it only gets better if you love chocolate. The open area is already so lovely, well kept, and enjoyable even without having to pay for admission into the park proper. But it's well worth it to pay the small admission price to see the chocolate museum and factory inside! I enjoyed the "time travel" presentation, and the Halloween theme during our visit. It's such an enjoyable visit that should last at least a few hours Pro tip: watch the clock tower at the top of every hour!
Eric — Google review
For a chocolate factory there are 2 products both are covered in so much biscuit you'd be surprised this isn't a biscuit factory. The story is cute and the garden is lovely, the garden is accessible for free and so is the shop and some lovely areas. Having been to bournville in the UK when it was UK owned and again when US Kraft owned it it's going a bit rubbish but is still about 100x more entertaining than this place. Recommended for if you like some superficial nonsense for your overpriced products. But if like me you were hoping to get some chocolate from a chocolate factory give it a swerve. Or just enjoy the English sort of aesthetic of the place and the garden but know the smell of chocolate will leave you deeply disappointed and needing to visit a shop for a proper chocolate experience
Steven H — Google review
A wonderland that is both interesting and romantic. The ticket is 800 yen for adults, tourists can get access to the main building by the ticket. The main building, mostly telling stories about the history of making chocolates and the founder of this factory, is magic. And tourists can also learn how to make chocolates and cakes here. And the most impressive part I’ve learned today is that ‘white lover’ is named because the snow in Hokkaido is beautiful so that the founder’s father called it ‘white lover’. The dessert on the top of the factory was just splendid! with good view by the window, a perfect experience! Highly recommended!! And if you don’t buy tickets, the free area is also amazing, like a magic garden in a fairy tale. It’s a pity that we didn’t get enough time today, maybe next time when I come with my child, I’ll spend a whole day here!
Liz L — Google review
Highly recommend to visit in October. The park is decorated for Halloween. We paid ¥800 to tour inside which was interactive for children as well. The factory view from above was very interesting. There are also plenty of photo spots and even a ¥300 camera from above photo spot in the courtyard. We purchased customised 36-biscuit tin and magnet from the Piccadilly shop downstairs in the main building and it was ready after a 30 wait. There are some shop exclusive items, however, the biscuits are standardised price across all gift shops in Hokkaido so no need to stock up here.
Emily K — Google review
Shiroi Koibito Park is a really amazing place to visit. The whole area is very clean, visually stunning, and well-designed. The gardens and buildings are beautiful, and the chocolate exhibits and factory viewing area are interesting and worth checking out. It’s also a great spot for photos. Definitely a must-visit when you’re in Sapporo.
Yumi G — Google review
Had great time at this chocolate factory. The place is well decorated and you can see live how the chocolate are made. They have variety of chocolate souvenir shop. The ice cream and chocolate one of the best in japan.

Hokkaido Jingu, a Shinto shrine built in 1869, is located in Sapporo and is dedicated to four deities, including Emperor Meiji. It was established around 150 years ago and is considered the most important shrine in the city. The shrine honors three gods, with locals often seen making offerings to them. This relatively youthful shrine stands out amidst Japan's famous shrines and holds historical significance as it guards the pioneering career of Hokkaido.
Beautiful shrine in Hokkaido! I went here in May first week, when the Sakura blossoms were just about to fall off completely, so I managed to get some nice pics. But from what I see of the shrine here in winters, it looks so much more beautiful in snow! Would love to revisit in winters someday!
Arti P — Google review
Really beautiful place. The shrine is all in wood with a traditional design, and the whole area feels very peaceful. It’s well taken care of, and there weren’t too many people, so it was a nice break from the city. Great spot for a quiet stroll or just to enjoy the atmosphere.
Auriane D — Google review
Such a beautiful shrine. You walk through a stunning pathway to get there, and they have tea houses that are super cute. I loved the beauty and the vibe of the whole place. Definitely take pictures.
Shirin M — Google review
It’s so peaceful and glorious shrine. In summer it’s all only green but still very beautiful. It must be prettier in another season 😍 You can walk a lot here, and in Miyashita park there’s a field where i saw lot of students play volleyball 🍃
Citra H — Google review
We went in the summer, scorching but it calms you, with its nature and its long gravel walk. There’s a park surrounding it, one can easily spend 2-3 hours in that area admiring the architecture and nature.

Nice shrine to visit in Sapporo. It was very peaceful and there were lots of trees. You can leave offerings as well. It was very accesible.
Neil C — Google review
It is always an experience on it’s own when visiting a shrine and that also counts for the Hokkaido Jingu. A spiritual place full of traditions. I could collect an ema as a souvenir and also could write one and hang up on the ema “wall” , which always gives me a warm feeling.
Stephan F — Google review
As the main shrine in Hokkaido enshrining 3 pioneer dieties and eventually Meji Emperor himself, its a shrine that you should spend half an afternoon slowly strolling around to soak in the atmosphere and Use ¥100 to get the fortune slips and see what does it say, and for the bad luck, tie it to their racks to cleanse it for a better year ahead, and for those with good, medium or great fortune, bring it home! Overall a historically packed and very chill place. Side track, it has a small tea house offering sweet snacks, ice cream and tea too :)

Nestled in the heart of Sapporo, Maruyama Park is a picturesque haven that captivates visitors year-round. Spanning an impressive 68 hectares, this scenic park is adorned with approximately 1,700 wild cherry and maple trees that create a stunning display throughout the seasons.
Large beautiful walking park, great for viewing sakura (cherry blossoms) and Ume (plum blossoms) if you’re visiting in late April, early May! The park offers an abundance of different kinds of blossoms to enjoy. We arrived at the beginning of the season and were able to enjoy various stages of the blooms, from buds to full blossoms. Vendors line the walkways selling various food and drink items. It was lovely to see so many people, of all ages, out enjoying nature and beauty Highly recommend visiting this park during your stay in Sapporo! There is no charge to visit the park- it’s free!

Very cozy and scenic park. Has a zoo, Shrine and a small play area. Autumn fall colors at its best in Oct end. Washrooms were dirty and unhygienic unlike other japan toilets.

Very zen, a good pit-stop for big walkers like myself. That day I walked from Susukino to the summit of Moiwayama. I had to stop by Maruyama koen. It was around 10:30am. Sunny day. Had a nice rest sitting at a bench gazing at the lake, having sips from my canned coffee. The public toilet was a blessing too.
Ok R — Google review
Very pleasant park near the subway station. There are vending machines with warm drinks and a coffee cart. Walk further in to find a shrine that is popular with tourists. The walk is nice during autumn and there is a Starbucks nearby should you want to get a coffee first. Good for about a one hour sightseeing!
Ying L — Google review
A bit walk from station and the park is very beautiful with flowers from sakura and plum trees. We went there on weekday. Not so crowded. Great place to sit down and absorb the beauty of nature. Further inside, there are popular sweet shop, the shrines and the zoo. Just follow the signs and you will not get lost.
Oil C — Google review
We visited in November, planning to do some birdwatching and see if we can find squirrels. The park was perfectly described with the word 'koyo', as the autumn foliage was outstanding! In the pond we found a group of Mandaring Ducks, Mallards and other songbirds. We also found squirrels! Some people offered nuts and acorns. Don't feed the crows! If you visit this park, I'd recommend to also see the Hokkaido Jingu Shrine and the Jingu Tea Room!

Daimaru Sapporo is a multi-storey department store located on the western wing, offering a variety of international branded stores for window shopping. The food court at Daimaru is known for offering unique Omiyages such as Kit Kat in unusual flavors. Connected to Daimaru are smaller shopping areas like Apia, Paseo East & West, and Stellar Place, providing ample opportunities for strolling and monthly retail therapy.
On Sept 3, 2024, I brought my wife here at 7:30pm and heard the announcement that the store would be closing in 30 minutes. Instead of rushing to buy a luxury bag on the ground floor, we went to its basement to check if we could buy any snow cheese stuff home. But it was all sold out. My wife planned to queue up early the next time when there is snow ie Feb 2025.
Peter C — Google review
Huge departmental store but only reach around 7pm so have very little time to browse just stayed at basement level to explore the fresh produce section and food area where big confectionery brands have setup counters. Bought some fresh milk with some assortment of Hokkaido confectionery.
Ken T — Google review
Should be an very nice shopping mall, but we arrived five minutes before they are closing. May be we should come a bit earlier next time.
Steven C — Google review
I love, love Daimaru Basement Floor, B1, for their various food and desserts. Of special recommendations are the cream puffs at Tuchheim, mochi at Daifukudo, and the fruits in the grocery section. Forget about Eric Keyser or Boul’Ange. If you want excellent croissants, go to Over the Moon. Their croissants are Paris worthy. The shop can be accessed from Daimaru through the underground walkway toward Odori Park. It would be on the right hand side. One bite of their croissant and you will not go anywhere else. If you want good curry, go to Soup Curry Suage 4 at Miredo building which is about one block from Sapporo Station. You can get there through the underground walkway if the weather outside is not so great. I also tried Rojuro curry which is located just outside Daimaru’s door and it was subpar. Go to Suage 4 instead and you will be thankful for it.

Went to Daimaru for a stationary exhibition, though it wasn’t that big. The staff were really nice and helpful so had a great time there 👍🏼👍🏼

Arrived at 7 pm just in time for their half priced sushi. Worth getting quality sushi for a reduced price to end the night!

Daimaru Sapporo, conveniently located near JR Sapporo Station, is one of Hokkaido's premier shopping destinations. This expansive department store offers a diverse range of products across multiple floors, including gourmet food, luxury brands, fashion, home goods, and a variety of dining options. A highlight is the Pokémon Center Sapporo on the 8th floor, where visitors can find exclusive Pokémon merchandise and enjoy a well-organized shopping experience. With its direct connection to Sapporo Station and tax-free shopping for international travelers, Daimaru Sapporo is a must-visit for anyone exploring the city. Aside from that, this store also has numerous restaurants some of which offers buffet style eating.

Buffet restaurant
THE BUFFET Daimaru Sapporo is a popular buffet restaurant situated in the heart of Sapporo, known for its wide range of food options including sushi and local delicacies. The restaurant is favored by both locals and tourists for its delicious and affordable offerings. It offers a premium course with no time limit, but some menu items require a premium ticket.
As a foringer in Japan, what a great experience I had with the standard buffet. A wide variety of dishes to choose from, most of them very delicious. Reasonably priced Buffet, friendly & Helpful staff considering I don’t speak any Japanese. The toilet is located outside of the restaurant which is a funny experience as I’ve never had this before. You can go to the toilet & come back to the restaurant to continue your dining experience
Harrison H — Google review
“The Buffet” holds some value but does have its holdbacks with few areas. The fact that there was limited variety of meats could be improved. However, the desserts were very popular especially the cheesecakes. The waffle machine was spectacular and the fruit is delicious. However the waiting to get in was so long but it was worth it ,but there was not a single piece of seafood. The value of the price is for me considered cheap for a buffet. But the premium card is not worth the hype. Rather than having a variety of food to choose from, you barely get anything. But overall the service and experience were above my expectations.
Jack H — Google review
Worst experience. It's like dining in a food court. Food quality did not justify the price paid. Taste bland. Food prepared ahead. Not warm on the serving trays. Some trays were near empty. Customers need to present a card for collection of food items from the counters, even a small piece of castella cake. Dim sums were ordered to steam but you need to collect the food from staff after the bell rang. Tea collection available was not bad but the tea leaves did not match the label printed. Disappointed.
Martlet — Google review
Meal: Dinner Day Visited: Saturday Budget: ¥4,000/person Closest Station: Sapporo Reservation Needed?: Maybe Payment: Cash; Credit; E-Payment Kid Friendly?: Yes English Menu?: Yes Our expectations were, perhaps, unreasonably high, but we found a buffet that is essentially the equivalent of one found in a 3-star hotel. At more than ¥4,000 per person (with (soft) drink bar), we were hoping for much better quality food and more options. While the make-your-own waffles were good and the steak and Xiaolongbao were ok, the rest of the food on offer was bad. The paella was, quite literally, disgusting and the sushi was of poor quality. Drink bar options are akin to what you will find at Denny’s, etc. The view of downtown Sapporo is one of the few highlights and the service was fine. Other than that, I struggle to find other redeeming qualities.
Zachary H — Google review
I was hoping for better food since this restaurant is in Daimeru. It's on par with buffets in chain hotels and malls in the US, which ain't saying much. There were 3 levels of food choices on a Sunday afternoon and and I chose #2, which included roast pork and sushi. Pork was OK, but sushi was dull in color and sliced very thin... plus you had to wait in line to order. Lots of pizza, uninteresting pasta and fried foods. The quality just wasn't there, along with very typical Japanese fare. The avocado potato salad tasted awful... avo sauce from a can/dehydrated maybe? Anyway, it's not the great Asian buffet you're experienced in Bangkok or Singapore, and there are better ones in Sapporo as well.
Joseph P — Google review
Very mediocre offerings. The sushi and steak options for the "premium" ticket were poor, the fish were falling off of the rice, the sirloin was tough. The only premium portions I liked were the dim sum and desserts, but not worth the price. There are FAR better food options nearby.
Dave R — Google review
Been here few weeks ago and my tour bring me here ordered the cheapest option ( around 2499 yen ). The atmosphere is good. Food selections are not much and the taste ? Most of them is bland . Nothing good from all food I tasted. The pizza from Spanish fair also bland. Only good things are their tea .
Koko S — Google review
Friendly staff Wide range of food Chose the premium course which has no time limit Some food items that are listed on the menu requires the premium ticket to be shown at the food counter Pencil and order forms are available on the clipboard provided by the waitress at the start. After you fill in the form with your device number and the amount of food you need, you need to pass the form to the chef at the food counter. When the food is ready, the device will beep for you to go and collect. Toilet is located outside the restaurant.

Sushizen is a legendary sushi restaurant that offers a premium dining experience in an elegant Japanese setting. It's advisable to make reservations in advance, as walk-ins may not be accommodated. The ambiance is lively and classic, providing the perfect backdrop for enjoying exquisite sushi. The Omakase menu comes highly recommended, featuring delicious and fresh dishes such as octopus, clam, and eel prepared by your personal sushi chef.
One of the best fine-dining sushi experiences I have in Japan (and I do come here A LOT). The chef is super friendly and have great craft in sushi making. It was so good that after one night of dinning there w their Omakese menu (around 35k) , we went back again in few days to try their other set menu for lunch (abt 18k ) . I can’t speak enough on how good the food is, and my photos don’t do the justice. But if you have time, should give it a try!
Tien-Hao L — Google review
One of the most Disappointed Sushi experiences I have ever had I had a memorable experience at Sushi Zen 10 years ago. My wife and I decided to visit the restaurant again for an unforgettable experience as it was her birthday and requested to serve by the Head Chef with the expectation that is not guarantee. All booking requires 10 thousand yen per person deposit which is reasonable for a high standard Sushi Restaurant. I chose “Mai” Set which is $24K Yen and my wife ordered Ala-carte menu as she is allergic to fish. Upon arrival, the server brought us to the second floor which there are only another couple and us in the room served by a Sushi Chef. I checked the menu and noticed there are only 7 pieces of Sushi both on the (Mai & Nagomi) menu which the website does not specify the quantity at all. Most sushi restaurant serves 10 pieces sushi minimum at least for their highest set but I guess I cannot back out as I have already paid my deposit. My initial thought was thinking regardless of the quantity of the sushi, I should be able to have an enjoyable and full meal tonight so I upgraded to the Nagomi set at $33k Yen. The difference between “Mai” and “Nagomi” is one appetizer less with an additional abalone steak. My honest review as follow: Food: All the pictures I showed are what I had during the night. First, the upgrade to the “Nagomi” set for the abalone dish is that slice of abalone I circled in the picture which is an additional $9K Yen. Second, I never thought I would be serving Salmon on the most expansive set in the menu. Third, the scallop sushi tasted slightly fishy in the level that I was still able to eat it but would not expect that quality of raw fish served at the restaurant. Fourth, for the Maki, I was not sure why but the Chef decided to give me half a maki (3 pieces) instead of a normal size 6 pieces. Service: The Chef is polite overall but there are two things that I was not satisfied. First, there are some in season Kohada (Gizzard Shad – Best season from late July to Winter), the chef decided to chef to another couple which I believe we both ordered the same set but not to me and gave me a Salmon instead, Second, after all the sushi were finished, I was still hungry and the chef told me if I had enough but he had already packed all the fishes in the counter. Honestly, why were you even bother asking me if you were rushing to finish your work. I am extremely disappointed at the whole dinning experience. For customers, who refers to the website for the menu, do not trust it, best to call the restaurant ahead to know what you are getting before paying your deposit. For the restaurant, please do not think foreigners are not able to tell what is good, bad, high, low-quality sashimi. We are honestly not a fool if you are just serving subpar level sashimi or sushi to us. Shame on you.

Came here 7 years ago and we came back again. We went with the Omakase this time. Really recommend the octopus, the clam and the eel (I think the eel is very good and I usually don't eat eel too). But the rest of the food is also very good! Definitely gonna come back again!

Been to many good sushi bars, came to sushi zen to worship this legendary sushi restaurant, it didn't disappoint me. Reservation: you will not want bad surprise by walk in. Reservation is recommended and it can be done online. Advance deposit required to secure your place. Environment: classic sushi bar in an elegant Japanese building. A premium sushi bar in a lively ambiance. Food: the way the master handle the raw meat; the skills in slicing it, what flavor to add, the pressure to put together the sushi rice, the pressure to put on the meat, etc. All bring its' sashimi and sushi to a new level of texture and flavor in your mouth. Service : Japanese services, needless to say. The Mickey mouse pattern (actually shall be put upside down ) napkin is a souvenir for you to take the good memories of this great meal home. Price: omakase from 30k Japanese Yen up. My final bill for myself cost 40k+ Though it is a high cost place but for food lover, it definitely worth a visit 👍👍👍👍👍

From popular Japanese favorites like miso and salt ramen to meat rice bowls and veggie burgers, there's something for everyone. The Chef's Lunch features creative vegan meals using seasonal ingredients, with the menu changing daily between Japanese and Western cuisine.
I have tried many vegan Ramen all over in Tokyo. This cafe serves the most delicious vegan ramen in Japan. Must try. Ordered Shio Ramen & Burger, both were delicious. Even my non-vegan friend likes the soy meat in burger. The store is located just right in front of the Maruyama Koen station which is easy and convenient to locate. The chef was kind, considerate. The place can accommodate max of ten people at a time. The atmosphere was good.

The best vegan place in Sapporo! We went there twice. The location is really close to the subway and a bigger bus station. Great mix of Ramen, fast food and desserts. So you can go there for different kinds of meals. Also the staff was really friendly and the Cafe itself has a nice atmosphere.

Delicious! Best vegan food we tried in Sapporo. We had the miso ramen and zantare bowl, and would highly recommend both.

What a delightful surprise to find a vegan restaurant near subway station on our way to the Hokkaido Shrine! While I do not 100% practice veganism, as a foodie I do take great joy in trying new and unique foods. This place absolutely delivered a great meal. We recommend either the burger or the teriyaki bowl. The homemade ginger ale and cola were also fantastic.

We found this incredible plant-based gem close to the Hokkaido Shrine and park. So many great menu options to choose from. We left feeling extremely satisfied but overly full. We simply ate way too much. But everything was so delicious!!! When in Hokkaido, you have to try the miso ramen. The Veggy Way miso ramen is the absolute best ramen I have tried in Japan. So rich and flavorful! The noodles and veggies are perfectly prepared and balanced. My husband got the teriyaki burger. We also had to try the Hokkaido fried chicken (soy protein). Everything was so good. We topped the meal off with a soft serve Sundae made with soy milk and covered with chocolate sauce and crisp almond bits. I ordered the vegan butter sand - yuzu and raspberry. Pay heed - these are not small portions. We have learned to order several dishes since most dishes are much smaller. Not so here!! These portions are much larger. And their lemonade and ginger ale are really good, too. Oh, and some items are made gluten-free. Everything in the menu is clearly labeled. If you’re in the area, you don’t want to miss this place. It’s definitely worth the trip!

Nice vegetarian and vegan spot for lunch. A bit pricey, but good healthy food. Most meals are heavy on seitan, but there are other options too.

We came here for my son’s birthday because he is allergic to many things. This restaurant had many wonderful options to celebrate him and they went out of their way to make him feel special and celebrated. Even the other customers sang happy birthday to him we were so blessed by their generous hospitality!

Sushi Miyakawa is a renowned sushi restaurant led by the acclaimed sushi chef Masaki Miyakawa. Fantastic sushi served in a small but beautiful space, along with excellent service. One of my best sushi experiences so far. Each and every dish was excellent, with the freshest ingredients, prepared wonderfully, and I can't praise the nigri rice enough - the texture and taste was simply perfect. As a Michelin starred restaurant, one can expect it to cost a bit, however it is very reasonable for what you get. There are only 6-8 seats so getting a booking is difficult, but if you can it is highly recommended!

The numerous awards that this restaurant has won speak for themselves. Nothing I could say could approach doing this place justice. It is amazing. Staff is amazing. We booked through TableAll.

Lovely host and amazing food! Very cosy and friendly atmosphere. Good value for a 3 star restaurant. Shame it is so hard to book but that adds to the fun!

Wow... Simply wow... This is without a doubt in the top 3 of any sushiya I've been to in my life and I've been to plenty. Both the cooked/prepared appatizers and the sushis are all superb. Not one dish was out of place and that is hard in any degustation menu. Highlight of the meal would be the chutoro zuke (5 days), the saba and the kinki. But all of the sushi served have been carefully and superbly prepared bringing the fishes to their peak deliciousness and tenderness. The same goes for the semi cooked food like abalone with abalone liver sauce (this was to die for would have licked the bowl to have that sauce) and the uni don with uni sauce. This concept of using other parts of an animal to accentuate the flavour is so awesome and I love it! If you only have one sushiya you can visit in sapporo then miyakawa is the place to be.

The JR Tower is a prominent 173-meter high skyscraper that opened in 2003. It is directly connected to Sapporo Station, serving as a gateway to various transportation options within the city. The tower features a diverse range of amenities, including a shopping mall, office complex, movie theater, and hotel. Visitors can enjoy panoramic views from the observatory on the 38th floor.
A really nice place to admire the landscape of Sapporo. Quiet and comes with a cafe for you to enjoy some matcha or coffee. Tickets can be bought at the venue or via klook.

The view is breathe taking. Its worthwhile going up. A lot of tourist will be here and knowing the weather is an important aspect to consider especially if you are taking the cable car up the hill. The cable car will cease service once they know there might be heavy rain or lightning. There are some hotels which offer glimpse of the view in their bar areas , which isnt a bad idea if you wanna beat those crowds or you hate crowded areas

Many different shops (clothing, outdoor, home appliances) and eateries in many stories. I like the fact that restaurants have different themes (Japanese, Italian, buffet) and there is a system monitoring how many are lining up and wait time; very useful. We visited and dined in different eateries, all delicious and with good service.

The Sapporo TV Tower, a famous landmark built in the 1950s, stands at 147.3 meters tall at the end of Odori Park in Sapporo City. Its observation deck, situated 90 meters above ground level, provides stunning panoramic views of the city and beyond. Visitors can enjoy iconic night views of Odori Park and experience thrilling transparent glass panels that slope down to their feet.
The Sapporo TV Tower is such a fun and iconic landmark right in the heart of Odori Park! 🗼✨ The view from the observation deck is amazing – you can see the whole stretch of Odori Park, the city skyline, and on a clear day even the surrounding mountains. Both day and night views are beautiful, but the evening lights of Sapporo are especially magical. The tower itself is well maintained, easy to access, and has a friendly staff that makes the experience smooth and welcoming. The little shops at the base also have some nice souvenirs unique to Sapporo. It’s not just about the view – visiting here feels like checking off a must-do cultural landmark of Hokkaido. Highly recommend adding it to your Sapporo itinerary – whether for sightseeing, photography, or simply enjoying the city from above! 🌆📸

We stayed at the hotel across the street and had a lovely view of the tower at night! It’s magical to see it lit up with its dancing lights 🚥. It makes a beautiful backdrop for those music festivals in the park. The experience up the tower was meh but the view from the outside is gorgeous!

This is one of the places where you get to see Sapporo on higher ground. It's right at one end of odori park and has a great view of the park. You need to buy a ticket at level 3 to get to the highest viewing platform. Overall a nice experience walking around to see the beautiful landscape of Sapporo city.

My siblings and I recently visited the Sapporo TV Tower, and it turned out to be a fun and memorable experience. This iconic landmark, located in Odori Park, offers stunning views of the city and is a must-visit for anyone exploring Sapporo. Despite the presence of numerous tourists, the overall atmosphere remained lively and enjoyable. The observation deck provides a panoramic view of Sapporo, showcasing its urban charm and surrounding natural beauty. Whether you're a first-time visitor or a seasoned traveler, the experience of seeing the city from such a height is undeniably captivating. Sapporo TV Tower is not just about the views—it’s about immersing yourself in the vibrant energy of the city. Our visit was filled with laughter, photo-taking, and quality time spent together. It's a place where memories are made and where the bustling spirit of Sapporo truly comes alive.

I didn’t find much to do above ground in the odori park area other than going up the tv tower. However, there are many shops and restaurants underground there. More importantly, it is much more easy to get from the train station to your hotel, wherever it is, with your luggage by using the underground. This way you can avoid all of the intersections.

A lot of people, some walk fast without care about old people walk slowly and pushing. Really bad experiences here. Some running inside. This not call shopping mall, it’s just a market only, you can’t even stop, see and choose the items to buy. Only good things here are clean.

We only found out about this Underground Shopping, which stretched out from Sapporo Station, all the way to Susukino Station...had we known this on our first day of arrival, we wouldnt have taken the subway and walked through the heavy snowing to reach Odori Park so late that night...but like they always say, better late than never!!

The Sapporo Clock Tower, also known as the Clock Tower, is a historic wooden building that has become an iconic sightseeing spot in Hokkaido. Originally completed in 1878 as the Former Sapporo Agricultural College Drill Hall, it now houses a museum showcasing the history of Sapporo. Designated as a National Important Cultural Property, this building has close ties to Hokkaido University and is used for academic events.
Small museum with great little titbits about the university of Hokkaido and the history of sapporo. Also impressive to see the mechanism of the clocktower which is still in its original form. But what left the best impression was to have a free tour guide that speak English and could explain in detail every panels as well as awnser my questions. Another tour was happening right next to mine, so it didn't seem like a rare occurrence either. For the price and the proximity to jr station, would definitely recommend!
Felix D — Google review
Nothing really too special about this old clock house. It may have its significant at the time when it was built but it is now surrounded by modern buildings! If you pay ¥350 for a ticket to visit inside of the building but the information displayed is all in Japanese, Chinese and Korean, very few have English distribution. But the mechanical clock display inside on the second floor is very cool. Just like many other photo location, there is a stand in front of the building that is set up for taking selfie!

The Sapporo TV Tower, built in 1957, is one of the city’s earliest landmarks and has stood watch over Odori Park for more than six decades. Designed during Japan’s post-war modernisation period, it originally served as a key broadcasting tower and quickly became a symbol of Sapporo. Visiting in winter is especially beautiful. From the observation deck, the view of Odori Park blanketed in snow feels almost timeless—quiet, white, and serene. The symmetrical lines of the park, covered in soft snow, make the city look peaceful and historic, as though time has slowed down. A simple but meaningful stop for anyone who wants to appreciate Sapporo’s history and the gentle beauty of its snowy landscape.

Very nice museum, about the history of the building. Most explanations are translated jn English. There is also a spot inside to take pictures with a statue Dr Clark and a small shop. Visited in June, and the inside of the building was very hot despite fans and some air conditioning.

You can spend 20-30 mins here in between your city walks of Sapporo, a good spot to take short break as well because there's a big sitting hall on second floor. While you taking a break from your 10,000 steps, you can read and checking the videos explaining the history of this clock tower.

Unique clock tower. Probably one of the most prominent attractions in Sapporo. This historic site tells a tale of how Japan bought the bell from the US for a school building that eventually became this site. Pay cash at entrance to enter. There are 2 floors of history to read up. Tip, the bell rung at 12pm sharp when we are there. Paid parking at public carparks. There is a small road where you can park at the side of the tower which will be the nearest.

Usui Masao was a terrific host at this wonderful historical landmark. He spoke English, well. He was knowledgeable regarding facts that related to Japan and America! Most of the information he shared would have taken goes to get by translating each picture and item at the museum. Some, I'm sure, we wouldn't have known without him.

Sapporo Stellar Place is a vast shopping complex located within JR Tower, offering an extensive selection of shops, dining options, and entertainment facilities. The southern section of Sapporo Station seamlessly connects to the mall, featuring multiple levels of stores with balconies overlooking an open-air piazza and a top-notch movie theater on the seventh floor.

It's a MacDonalds, so that's what you get. I can be busy at peak hours, but the line moves fast and you can usually get a table. Very close to the Sapporo TV Tower and the Odori Subway Station. There was a Mid-Autumn Festival promotion going on, and I ordered a delicious breakfast burger. It came with egg, cheese, ham, and a patty, perfect for satisfying a hungry stomach. The dining environment was spacious and comfortable. The service was excellent. My friend foolishly used the kiosk, but since he didn't have a receipt, he thought he hadn't ordered anything and accidentally ordered three times. Saera Coffee & Sandwiches has been a staple in Sapporo since 1975, located in the tunnels beneath Odori station. It's a popular spot for city workers to grab a delicious sandwich at lunchtime. The menu offers options like the fruit sandwich with whipped cream and the red king crab salad sandwich, which are highly recommended. The fruit sandwich is particularly favored by male patrons for its balanced sweetness.
Amazing sandwiches in a cute little hidden cafe. We tried the shrimp cutlet and vegetable sandwich, smoked salmon and potato salad and all fruit sandwich. All were delicious. Please note, that each sandwich has two pairs of flavors and one sandwich pair is good enough for one person. The king crab sandwich is highly recommended, we couldn’t try it as it was sold out by the time we arrived. The staff told us to come by 12pm to try the king crab sandwich.

An extremely Japanese cafe and sandwich experience. The sandwiches are the highlight as this traditional and small basement venue. You choose from an extended menu of unique sandwich options. This includes Japanese experiences like fruit. The sandwiches are served on thick sweet white bread with the crusts remove and take quite a while to be prepared to order. The sandwiches are small, light, sweet and airy. For my palate, they are a bit plain and unsatisfying. I’d probably need 10 plates to actually fill up on them! Note some rules, like 1 item per customer. It’s also very popular here so you may need to wait for a table. We tried the crab sandwich and egg sandwich. It was tasty enough, high quality, and fresh ingredients. Overall it’s a unique experience worth having while in Sapporo:

A little bit difficult to find from street level but well worth the hunt!! Absolutely best sandwiches I have had in Japan. The melon sandwich was so fresh and juicy, delicious!! This place is a must stop on a hot day. Closed on Wednesdays, opens at 10am. Please visit here! The service was lovely and extremely welcoming. Highly recommend

I loved this place so much I came back two days in a row! Saera Coffee and Sandwiches serves some of the best sandwiches I’ve had in Japan. On my first visit, I tried a seasonal combo of Yubari melon and ebi fry (fried shrimp) sandwiches—and it was unforgettable. Even though the melon portion was small (just three pieces), the quality was outstanding: perfectly ripe with a delicate fragrance, smooth texture, and just the right amount of sweetness. The ebi fry was fantastic too—warm, crispy, and full of flavor. Combined with the soft, fluffy bread, it was a perfect bite. If I ever visit Sapporo again, I’ll definitely be back to try their snow crab salad sandwich. Highly recommended spot for sandwich lovers!

A very cozy cafe which serves wonderful fruit sandwiches and crab sandwiches. The tables are not too crammed and the environment is relaxing. I personally prefer the fruit sandwiches which consist of cream of rich milk flavour and sweet and fresh fruits, though the crab sandwiches are more popular. The staff are extremely friendly. Highly recommended.

Their most popular item (crab and menchi sandwich) indeed lives up to its name. The deep fried minced meat cutlet was super crispy and the crab flakes were well seasoned! Must try!!

Every sandwich can be mixed with another filling so you get a lot of choices. What stood out for me was the corn croquette and ebi fillings. If there are a lot of customers, be prepared to wait for your food though. Mine came after 20 mins upon ordering.

Japanese restaurant
Arinko - JR Sapporo Station is a popular fast food chain restaurant in Sapporo, Japan, offering a wide variety of freshly-made warm onigiri and hot soups. This establishment is known for its efficiency and speedy service. The onigiris are delicious and come in flavors such as salmon, bonito+egg, and spicy cod roe with the perfect rice-to-filling ratio.
Nice and simple local bf. We reach at 8am on a Sunday morning, by 8:15am there is a queue, they are fast but limited seat unless you take away. Had the pork soup as well.

Read about Arinko prior to coming to Sapporo and was highly recommended on multiple websites and google. Arinko is located at JR Sapporo station next to east gates on the left hand side. If you love rice you will enjoy these savoury rice balls for breakfast. They are filling, super tasty and made fresh on the spot. The most popular rice ball is the cheese katsuo that is made up of little pieces of cheese and shredded Katsuo (mm oishi), drink together with the pork miso soup will keep you full for an early start. The limited crab meat rice ball is also delicious. They are super cheap, taste good, option to dine in or take-out and served very quickly.

Freshly-made warm onigiri that’s great for takeaway and enjoying on your train/bus ride. We tried the salmon, bonito+egg, and spicy cod roe onigiris and they were all super yummy. They got the rice:filling ratio down pat. If you’d like a hot soup, try the pork soup. Filled with pork slices, onions, carrots, potatoes and konnyaku, it was a comforting bowl on a cold winter day. As the food is made-to-order, there’s usually a wait of at least 10 minutes.

Traditional Japanese food. Great taste rice ball. Must try in Sapporo.

Friendly staff. Really good pork soup. And freshly made onigiri! Nice way to experience local life
Maysheen T — Google review
Good food, cheap price, fast service. Just wish there was more filling in the onigiri.
Anisa A — Google review
The popular choice is bonito flake and cheese onigiri. Personally I feel that it is okay only. There are other nicer choices such such tuna, luncheon meat. Try the pork soup. It is nice. A good meal to start the day!

Good pork soup. Their onigiris are jusk okay. They run out of the beef and crab mayonaise onigiris by 1:30 pm

Japanese Ramen Noodle Lab Q

Ramen restaurant
Noodle shop
Japanese Ramen Noodle Lab Q is a trendy ramen restaurant located near the famous Sapporo Clock Tower. The restaurant offers a relaxed dining experience with counter or communal table seating. Known for its homemade noodles and ever-changing menu featuring new ramen variations, it's a great place to savor dishes like shoyu ramen, which boasts a flavorful broth made from eight types of soy and topped with tender chashu.
This was the most memorable meal of my Sapporo trip. By sheer coincidence, I happened to be staying a at hotel that was a 2-minute walk away from this ramen spot. After learning about this place online during my trip, I HAD to check it out. I came to the ramen shop at 08:00 and took a number for 11:30. There were only 2 of us there. One sign on the door says there will be numbers given out at 8:00, 9:00 and 10:00, the other says the owner isn't around so they will be serving a different menu (something they regularly do, I think). Came back around 11:30 and went straight down to find a staff to place my order at the machine. There were a few people queueing but not too crazy during my visit. The machine not accepting new banknotes is quite frustrating, but thankfully I had one note that worked, otherwise I'm not sure what other options I had because the Lawson right beside it refused to swap notes (I suppose they get that request way too often). I went with the ¥2600 option, which is kinda pricey but I didn't regret it one bit. Everything was just ... good. The broth was incredibly flavourful but light, the wonton skin was the best wonton skin I've ever had in my entire life (incredibly smooth, right amount of bite, right amount of flavour from the broth), the chashu and chicken was perfectly cooked (my guess would be sous vide is involved), just the most tender and appropriately flavoured meats. I'm not a huge fan of ramen, but I'm a huge fan of this place. If I ever come back to Sapporo, I would definitely make it a point to revisit. Hope I get to try the menu when the chef is around someday.

Absolutely one of Sapporo’s best bowls for years running. Super high-quality ingredients cooked perfectly. Been coming here since almost the beginning and it has remained one of my favorite bowls in all of Japan. Although they have sub-branches called Nippon Rin around Japan now, the quality here remains the best. The vibe has changed due to all of the tourists, but on the best days it’s quite zen and quiet in there as everyone is enjoying and focused on the bowl.

Ramen was good if a little disappointing given the reviews. Beautiful presentation. Absolutely fine. It takes itself a little too seriously here though. Church-like atmosphere pervades - we're here to eat, not to pray.

It was one of the best Ramen we had in our lives. If you like your ramen to be clear and light, this is the place you would look for. We made a reservation around a month ahead which cost a little extra. When we first arrived at the store, we were a bit confused with the queue in front of the store and thought we would need to queue to get in as we came a bit early. It turned out that the queue is for walk-ins. (Didn’t aware that we can actually walk-in when we reserved.) There was no staff at the front door which made it quite hard to know what exactly we need to do. If you have reserved, skip the line, go downstairs, and show your reservation to the staff. Once we showed our reservation, they let us order from the vending machine. They will let us in after ordering. We waited a bit inside before guided to our seats at the counter. We ordered different bowls of Ramen so we could also try both of their signature. I went with their flavorful Shoyu ramen and my bf went with their light Shio ramen. The aroma from both bowls was stunning. It’s strong and elevated the meal. They are very light Ramen that you can enjoy til very last slurp. We also ordered their special Shumai which also surprised us with the umami flavor and juicy. I would highly recommend that you make the reservation as these reservations normally (and sadly) cut the walk-in line. If you are certain about your day plan, don’t risk waiting 1-2 hours for a ramen.

Had the basic shoyu ramen, and it was great. Incredibly light broth but packed with flavor - like imagine an upscale Costco rotisserie chicken turned into a soup. The noodles were surprising, because they behaved like soft, overcooked noodles (They weren't!), and were firm on the inside. A perfectly cooked soft-firm noodle for enjoyers of both types. The second piece of pork was a bit chewy since I let it cook in the broth for too long, so be sure to eat it right when it comes out. It wasn't too busy when I was there, but to be safe you can reserve a spot online or get a ticket in the morning at the door

Overall, a very present experience. Shumai was amazing, very meaty with a hint of ginger, pair that with a bit of spicy mustard sauce, you’re golden. I ordered a regular Shio(salt) ramen, the broth was very clean and super chicken-ny from the oil. Noodle was a bit of the softer side while the shashu was soft and super pink(in the best possible way). I would come back for more, for sure. I also order rice with grilled chicken, that my friend is the perfect pairing for ramen, switching between ramen soup and rice. Man, perfect! We don’t have to wait for long, we came to the restaurant 10 mins before opening.

Located close to the Sapporo subway station, Japanese Ramen Noodle Lab Q is a must-visit for ramen lovers, especially if one is interested in finding top-notch non-miso ramen in Sapporo. Went there during lunch hour on a weekday and had to wait for around 25 minutes. Basically there are two main soups - soya based and Shio (salt) based. Both soups are attenuated by the aroma and vigor of the chicken base which give off a pleasant after-taste even hours after the meal. The amorous noodles also blend in with the soup well. When in doubt, order the Tokusei (特製) which gives you all the special toppings. Here they serve different types of charsiu which add to the complexity of the ramen; the wontons also match the ramen well. Overall, a very pleasant experience trying one of the most esteemed ramen shops in Sapporo. (See more on Instagram: Gaga.bichon)

Soy Sauce Ramen. Best ramen I have ever had. The soup is chicken based clear but strong umami. Noodles silky. Pork slices had a good balance between the meat n fats.
