Historic Walking Areas
Piazza Ducale in Vigevano is a stunning Renaissance-era square known for its arcades, bars, restaurants, and shops. The town is famous for its high-quality handmade shoes and historical buildings like the Castello Sforzesco and the Cathedral of Saint Ambrose. Just a 30-minute train ride from Milan, it offers a hassle-free escape with rich cultural and historical heritage.
The best Square in the world, designed by Leonardo da Vinci, it is the living room of the city. A visit to the square is mandatory

A very pretty square in the heart of Vigevano! It is very calm and was designed by Leonardo da Vinci! Very historic too!
Giovanni B — Google review
Even when we visited Vigevano in one of late September afternoons the piazza was almost deserted. It seemd that people were still on holiday and most shops were closed. It had a very calm and peaceful vibes to the town. Had a quiet stroll around the Piazza and had snacks and coffee. We enjoyed the couple of hours we had there a lot.
Pramuditha M — Google review
A few years ago I read somewhere that this was one of the most beautiful squares in the world. The numerous photos by pros and tourists testify it. Being born in Piedmont, I used to visit this quaint town quite often, appreciating its medieval cobblestone alleys, to reach the piazza Ducale and enjoy an excellent ice cream. A lot has changed, nothing stays forever, but the square has maintained its grandeur. The historical shops have disappeared in favor of expensive eateries with rude and hasty service, aiming only at you spending $ on mediocre food and drinks. Head towards the hidden, narrow streets that surround it and you’ll find small pubs and food joints with courteous and amicable service and decent prices. By the way, DO visit the Sforza castle, it’s a true medieval gem with frescos, ancient and secret gardens and horse stables. It’ll satisfy your cravings for history and well kept ancient artifacts

It is an incredible city😍 because it is full of monuments and place to eat and sit having the Ducale square view. It is very recommended to come at least one time.

One of many beautiful bridges I have seen in my life, but definitely not overrated. Very stunning! It's also called bridge of sighs and has an really interesting history, which is worth a google. I'm not too sure if you can actually walk over it but you dmcould view it from afar as see in the pictures or take a ride in a gondola and float along the waterways.

It connected the castle to the old fortress. It was also used to evacuate quickly in the event of an attack. The remaining frescoes are beautiful. The rings on the wall for tying the horses are still present. Also used in wartime for the transit of military vehicles. Today it is in good condition and has probably suffered more damage from vandals than time. For a detailed description of its history, please refer to other links. Very strange place, it has a good potential as a touristic place but they didn't invest and prepare enough what they have. (1) missing smiles to visitors (2) include explanations for each picture (more than just the time when Leonardo did it) (3) include English as well (everything was only in Italian (4) video Exposition requires more bright or less illumination, it was impossible to watch anything. (5) it was no explanation of the constructions prototypes at all (6) maintenance in general in the castle was veeeeery poor... Missing restores of painted walls, everything was practically in nude bricks (what it was not the original shape of the castle) It's a pity because the place can be really a nice touristic place helping to increase the economy of the village.

"L'Oca Ciuca" is a charming restaurant conveniently located near the square. The service staff may come off as a bit rough, but overall, it's a pleasant experience. The menu offers local and seasonal dishes paired with excellent wines. Signature dishes like slow-cooked goose leg and goose charcuterie are highly recommended. Despite some language barriers, the staff is extremely friendly and accommodating.

Great food, the service was nice and friendly however a bit slow. We had the goose cold meat platter as a starter and the saffron risotto with rabbit sausage for the main course. Both were absolutely delicious. The dessert was good but not memorable. Will gladly go back there.

Local, seasonal dishes elevated in style and paired with excellent wines. Competent and friendly staff, you can never go wrong coming here. There are some signature dishes like the slowcooked goose leg and goose charcuterie, typical of the region, that cannot be missed. My hubby had the "leg", this time I opted for a fritto misto - a mix of deep fried vegetables and meat cuts, with different batters, all where crisp and delicious. The selected cure meats were served with a crunchy gnocco fritto, and the vitello tonnato was as good as beautiful. Sweet end with peaches in sweet wine, and sorbet.

Terrible food just thrown on the plate with brown cheep wrapping paper underneath. Food was served just warm, and one person at our table got served the main meal when all four of us finished ours. When waiters were reminded about the missing plate of food, the passing ones just nodded in response. Ignorance from staff throughout the whole restaurant, including the owner. I very strongly do not recommend this eating place ( can't call it restaurant) and will ask a hotel staff to exclude it from recomended ones.

Had the most delicious meal here last night! Staff were extremely friendly despite my lack of Italian, and so helpful. The piazza itself is arguably the most beautiful in Italy. Think about Leonardo da Vinci working in Ludovico Sforza’s birthplace on numerous occasions. There are not many places in Vigevano to eat. This is a decent shopping Center. Lots of different stores, and some things for the kids to do…. Not sure who’s idea it was to have a tyre bath for kids to jump into, but hey ho. Topfloor is a little empty, but the poke bowl place was fresh. People come and wile away hours with coffee and air conditioning. Has a large supermarket where you can get everything and a Variant of everything, best place is UniEuro, which will comment on separately. Parking is plentiful, it’s never that busy, and it’s clean.

Il Ducale is a decent place to spend a couple hours during a hot summer weekend in the city when it's too hard to stay outside but unfortunately many of the shops inside struggle and often close leaving many parts of the mall empty. I strongly suggest the ice cream.

One of my favorite malls when I visit the area. It is located on three floors, has covered parking and quite a few restaurants. There is also a major grocery store within, so most of the necessities are there.

I advise the manager to ban music for customers so as not to disturb those who appreciate tranquility and nature. Furthermore, putting in some games for children under 6 would be appropriate (swing, slide). Once everything is fixed, increase the price; €50/60 per seat for up to 10 people would be honest. (Original) Gestore TOP. Bel posto. Fornito.

Nestled within the historic grounds of a castle, Leonardiana offers an immersive journey into the life and artistry of the legendary Leonardo da Vinci. This museum showcases high-quality reproductions of his masterpieces, allowing visitors to appreciate his genius in one convenient location. The modern and tech-savvy layout enhances the experience, even as it invites exploration beyond its walls.
It’s an extraordinary experience. I don’t understand people who don’t like it. The high definition reproductions of da Vinci’s paintings are amazing. It is not possible to see the originals of all of his works (agreed upon by “experts”) in one place. I probably will never travel to Krakow to see the portrait of Cecilia Gallerani. The curators did an outstanding job. Bravi!

Pretty good exhibition though a tad small by comparison. The museum marries both, classical and modern methods of presentation. Clever use of technology does elevate the visitor experience. Many of the works are historical reproductions. The codex and manuscripts on display were interesting. I did wish for the exhibition to be more detailed/ enriching and larger given how well endeared Leonardo Da Vinci and his work is today.

Ristorante Locanda il Castello is a charming find near the castle, offering traditional dishes cooked to perfection. Mrs. Maria warmly welcomes guests, adding to the delightful experience. The generous portions and quick, friendly service make for a memorable dining experience. Dishes like cutting board, risotto with pumpkin and taleggio, and speck-stuffed flakes with walnut cream are all highly recommended. While desserts may not be as impressive, the overall value for money is excellent.

Restaurant
Trattoria La Darsena is a charming restaurant located in a tranquil area of Parco Ticino with a meticulously maintained garden. It's known for its excellent service and setting, making it a popular choice for both intimate dinners and larger gatherings. The spacious venue offers ample seating, and visitors usually spend around 1.5-2.5 hours here. While the pizza may not meet some expectations, the desserts are highly recommended, and the first and second courses leave a positive impression.
**Review of La Darsena in Vigevano** Tucked away at the end of a charming tree-lined street, La Darsena in Vigevano is a true gem that I was fortunate to discover, especially during a quiet August when it was the only restaurant open in the area. The spacious venue offers ample seating, making it an ideal choice for both intimate dinners and larger gatherings. Parking is plentiful, a convenience not to be overlooked. The menu at La Darsena is impressively diverse, offering a delightful selection of meats, seafood, and pizzas that cater to every palate. Each dish is prepared with a focus on quality, making every bite a pleasure. The wine list, while not exhaustive, is carefully curated and pairs beautifully with the menu, enhancing the overall dining experience. Despite the high standard of food and service, the prices remain refreshingly affordable, making La Darsena not just a place for special occasions, but a regular go-to for anyone seeking a consistently excellent meal. Whether you're a local or just passing through Vigevano, I highly recommend making a stop at La Darsena—you won’t be disappointed.

Fine dining restaurant
Ristorante I Castagni, located in Vigevano, offers a serene setting with a garden and complimentary Wi-Fi. The guesthouse provides six individually furnished guestrooms with modern amenities. While the restaurant serves a daily complimentary continental breakfast, it also offers satisfying meals for lunch and dinner. However, some diners have expressed disappointment in the quality of the dishes served, questioning its Michelin star status.
I had the most wonderful experience at I Castagni with friends and family for a birthday celebration. Luisa is the most gracious host and makes you feel at home, and she was beyond kind to allow our table to stay past midnight for us to celebrate the true birthday in the comfort of the dining room. And the food - the shrimp and calamari antipasti & the squid ink ravioli - was unlike anything I've tasted. Truly delicate, flavorful, and thoughtful. One of one in my books for both service and dishes.

🌟 If someone had told me in the morning that I would end the day in a fairytale — I wouldn’t have believed it. After 10 hours on the road, I arrived in a small Italian town, booked a hotel, and drove through narrow streets to find it. Eventually, I reached the Castagni complex — and that’s when the magic began. I was warmly welcomed by the incredibly kind and friendly hostess. She showed me my room (absolutely beautiful!), walked me through the garden, showed the pool, the restaurant… We agreed I’d come for dinner in the evening. And then — the evening came. I walked into the restaurant… And I couldn’t believe what I saw: the waitress didn’t just explain the menu — she sang it. And the hostess introduced each course like a scene from a culinary theatre. Each dish was a masterpiece of flavor and imagination. I don’t know who the chef is — but he’s a genius. Every bite was stunning. Each wine matched the dish in perfect harmony. You can feel the soul they’ve put into everything. You’re not just eating. You’re experiencing. You’re awakening. Even if you’re alone — here, you never feel lonely. This place feels tuned to inner peace. You feel like someone is holding your hand, whispering: “You’re home.” And then came dessert. And then — a collection of Armagnac, starting from 1945… I chose the 1947. 45 euros — that’s not a price. That’s the taste of time. The energy of post-war Europe, captured in a crystal glass. It doesn’t burn — it unfolds. It speaks to you. And suddenly, you understand something deeper about yourself and life. 💫 If you’re ever nearby — don’t miss it. One evening here can truly change you. The money? Not an expense. It’s an investment in a moment you’ll carry with you forever. And if someone asks: — How much does peace of mind cost? You’ll know: — I found it in Castagni. And I’ll be back.

We went to celebrate a birthday. On a Thursday evening, we were the only guests dining. We got the best table looking into the private garden. Service was very attentive. We ordered the "Menu degustazione", we loved the beef Carpaccio, the risotto, and the Burgundy Premier Cru which paired quite well with all the food coming.

I have been three times, in the last 6/7 years, to this restaurant of my native town, and I really appreciate its refined, but never pretentious, cuisine. I chose a menu "all fish" this time, made of five courses, and everthing was excellent: I especially liked the delicious appetizer "fried shrimps and squids". The previous times I had chosen some typical menus of the Lomellina zone, composed mainly of goose or pork meat, with the same good results in taste; besides, consider that the quantity of food in the plate is enough for the reasonably glutton customer. Good job as always, Enrico!

An appetizer featuring shrimp in filo pastry paired with fried calamari and sautéed risotto. Tasty, balanced...very much appreciated. It was definitely worth the wait. The price was reasonable for the quality. Easy parking. Dog friendly. Amex welcome. (Original) La valutazione si riferisce al ristorante. Una consolidata eccellenza.
