Nestled in Jena, the GalaxSea Freizeitbad is a fantastic indoor and outdoor swimming complex that promises a day of fun for everyone. With its impressive wave pool, thrilling waterslides, and dedicated kids' area, it’s an ideal destination for families looking to splash around. The facility boasts not only pools but also serene saunas set amidst lush greenery, providing a perfect escape after some energetic swimming.
Great for all ages: This pool has something for everyone, from young children to older adults. Clean and refreshing: The pool is very clean and well-maintained. Highly recommend: I highly recommend this pool to anyone looking for a fun and refreshing place to swim.
Dr. S — Google review
The bad is moderately large in area with a dedicated swimming pool along with puddle pools for children and toddlers. Two slides are there to add to the fun plus an outdoor bathing area. The major downside is in terms of time-keeping; they charge you an additional full amount even if you are 5-10 mins above the booked time. In many other swimming pools, the additional time is charged in terms of small intervals, which makes more sense.
Hafiz M — Google review
Great pool, all year round, hot or cold. Lots of activités for everyone, of all ages, fun slides, interesting pools with waves 🌊 every now and then. Hope you enjoy 😉!

I would highly recommend this pool to anyone looking for a fun and relaxing way to spend time with friends. Whether you're a serious swimmer or just looking to have fun, this pool has something for everyone. With its clean facilities, helpful staff, and inviting atmosphere, it's sure to become a favorite destination for anyone in the area.
Pooria K — Google review
Good it is mostly open all days. Public holidays and weekends. Though timing differs. It is very clean and well maintained all throughout year. It has food, spa and sauna options too. In the big pool you can dive from 3 different heights. One pool has occasionally waves. 2 jacuzzi options also. More like a water park but still can be used daily for your swimming practice. It is located close to tram stop.

Fun! Fun! Fun! Anyday. It can be crowded in the after work hours though..I'd recommend a morning or early afternoon visit.

Kassablanca Gleis1 is a must-visit destination for anyone looking to experience the vibrant nightlife of Jena. Nestled in an old industrial building near Westbahnhof, this alternative club stands out as one of the best party spots in town. With its unique ambiance and excellent sound engineering, Kassablanca offers a welcoming atmosphere where friendly staff ensure you have a great time. The music varies depending on the event, making each visit feel fresh and exciting.
The best disco in Jena . I am studying in Jena and I explore here after 2 years . I would highly recommend here

Since 30 5 best place in town for enjoying a nice atmosphere , nice musik/concert/Partys
Be P — Google review
The artistic environment is very nice in the day. Unfortunately the day I went clubbing really sucked because the dj wasn’t playing anything nice and the floor was so empty they stopped and said it’s over at 2:20 am. Also the way to the entrance is a bit complicated and this isn’t specified on the flyers! If you follow google maps, you won’t be allowed in using that way as you have to take another long way up to get to the entrance.
MamaCee — Google review
Probably the best party location of Jena. The only one which you might even know outside of the region. It's an old industrial building and an alternative club. The door team is fair, I never had troubles to enter. Reasonable prices for the drinks, music various depending on the occasion. Often sold out, so come sooner than later.
Matthias K — Google review
I attended a concert. I liked the atmosphere, and the dance floor. The drinks are not too expensive. The club was kind of hidden but if you literally walk through Jena west Gleis 1 you would reach it. Only the fence would separate you.

An incredible stadium and investment in the city and club with ambitions to move up in the league and the world. I was lucky enough to be given a tour of the place and can't wait to see a game there soon.

Great traditional club, with good family vibes. Safe, fun experience Beer costs 3.5€ (you can get Pils, Keller, Schwarz or Radler) Bratwurst 4€

If you are at the family section where is directly next to standing section you nearly see anything!!! they made huge glass and big metal poles as separation of 2 section. If you manage to see anything from metal poles this time glass walls are reflecting!!! Fans and atmosphere are amazing!!!! But its a shame after paying 20 euro ticket all you can see is metal poles and your own reflection:((

can be very crowded, on the beach, in the water, and on the greens. a good place for families, and children – the playgrounds appear to be in good shape –but not so much for relaxation. there is a constant buzz, commotion, and little space. changing rooms are at some distance, near the entrance.

Very nice and large grassy area with swimming pond (with fine water), playgrounds for kids (including small pools), showers. Great option for outside activities very close to the city center. The entry fee is very low and for that you can enjoy all day long. Even though the area is usually not overcrowded, so even games like frisbee can be played easily.

A nice place for a day long gateaway. Has place to sit and eat as well. But the water can be cleaner.

Go there just for the sun. Water is so dirty in that wee little pond, that you might catch a skin cancel just by looking at it. But with a book and a sunny day, you might enjoy your time there.

Great food Asian food which is reasonably priced. Better than the other Asian restaurants around. Good service. The location is quite good, near to train station which is quite helpful in case of take away while back home from work.
Geeta S — Google review
it is a nice place to eat different asian dishes. It seems to me that they even belong more to a Vietnamese style. The restaurant is very well decorated, and it is very spacious inside. The food is delicious, I highly recommend the duck, although to be honest the previous ones seem a bit high to me. Communicating with the workers was somewhat complicated, since they did not speak English.
Janik T — Google review
Unfortunately taste was not there in the noodles I ordered. Feel a little bad for the old chef who was working there. Maybe they need young blood
Omkar S — Google review
I've ordered here twice and each time the food was bland, just somewhat edible. There's more affordable restaurants for better quality food.

We went here yesterday. The food is okay. I don't want to say bad, it's just okay! Not something unique. Had Greek noodles, not so interesting. There are many different ways to make it agree, but it should have some good taste right.!? I could only feel salt and cheese, I felt the side dish salad is better than the food.

Architectural Buildings
JenTower, a 144.5-meter-high office tower in Jena, was built in the early 1970s as a research facility for VEB Carl Zeiss Jena. Designed by Hermann Henselmann, it stands as a modern landmark with its characteristic glass facade and an observation deck offering stunning city views at 128 meters high. The cylindrical tower's design alludes to an upright telescope, symbolizing Jena's optical industries.
Visiting the top of the JenTower is definitely worth it! We purchased a 20 euro coupon that paid for a cappuccino and cake at the restaurant located on the top. It was very tasty. The views were amazing and not too busy.
Suzanne D — Google review
Nice view of the city, worth a few euros (6 per person) for entrance. The elevator gets you up in no time!
Niels G — Google review
A great place to take a look at Jena from above. Take the elevator to the 26the floor and change there for another one taking you to the 29th floor where you will find the observation platform and a very good restaurant.
Sebastian R — Google review
Great view from the tower, worth taking time day and night! Plus, this is possibly the only spot in Jena where you don't see the tower... worth appreciation indeed 😃 Be ready for wind, it's much stronger than at the foot of the tower. Take an extra jacket.
Monika C — Google review
We had a spectacular dinner in the JenTower. An elevator takes you to floor 27 and from there another elevator takes you to floor 29. The view is very nice. The food is modern and visually appealing. The quality can be described as good. The design inside is very modern, but unfortunately a little dark. A good place for a relaxing evening with friends.
Christian T — Google review
Jena Tower costs €6 and is a must for anyone visiting Jena. Elevators take you up to the 27th floor in a matter of seconds and then the observation deck is on the 28th floor (another lift). The views from the top of the tower are simply spectacular with observation points around the whole tower. Remember a coat and hat! It is quite windy up there. Would be useful to have metal plaques at the top to point out landmarks, as the paper version just flew around all over the place!
Caro L — Google review
Tallest skyscraper in Eastern Germany (I assume outside of Berlin). Went to the viewing platform on the 28th floor which gives views of the entire city and valley. Great to have it, especially in summer with everything so green. 6 eur to visit. No dogs. No wait.
Paul H — Google review
Built in 1970, JenTower is in the list of the tallest buildings in Germany. It is always in sight when you roam around Jena. You can take an elevator and go up for 6€. The view is amazing, seeing all sides of the city. Additionally, you have chance to have a breakfast or meal there at the Tower. Personally, prices are moderate.

Breakfast restaurant
Scala Restaurant offers a stunning panoramic vista of Jena and its environs from the iconic JenTower, standing at an impressive height of 128 meters. The eatery presents a contemporary international cuisine, featuring a sharing menu for dinner that includes vegetarian options. Additionally, they offer an affordable lunch service. For convenient parking, visitors can utilize the Neue Mitte parking garage and take the elevators up to the restaurant.
I had lunch in this top floor restaurant of the Jena tower a Monday early August of 2024 on the recommendation by my wine merchant in town. I had an Asian inspired halibut that is one of the very best versions of this delicate fish that I have ever tasted including in Iceland. The restaurant features a very good wine list and the Spätburgunder by the glass I drank was of excellent quality. Overall a great lunch with top value for money incuding the view over the city.
Sebastian R — Google review
Seems to be a well prepared place but we were surprised to hear from the waiter that we had to order a certain number of portions at minimum. Certainly, this pressure was unexpected. The waiter kindly accepted us ordering less than he required, but it did take a little discussion and "only as an exception". Anyway, the desserts were great quality and apart from this strange pressure to generate turnover, we had a good experience. The place was almost empty, comfortably quiet, and we enjoyed the view.
Monika C — Google review
We visited Scala Jena to celebrate our anniversary and chose the vegetarian five-course menu — and from the very first bite, it was an experience to remember. The second course was an absolute standout: the Banyuls Karotten Sashimi was simply fantastic, and the Basilikum Artischocke mit Trüffel was a true delight — I still can’t forget those flavors. Even the butter with the fresh bread brought back memories of my grandmother’s cooking. That moment felt both nostalgic and refined — truly amazing. There was a small mix-up during the third course, which briefly affected the mood. But the way the team handled it made all the difference. The chef personally came to apologize, and the staff were sincere, attentive, and kind throughout. What began with a little hiccup turned into a truly lovely anniversary dinner — thanks to the thoughtful hospitality and exceptional flavors. A night we’ll remember, with warmth and laughter.
Harshitha N — Google review
If you go up the JenTower, I suggest you have a little treat at Scala Restaurant to wrap up the experience before going down. I didn’t try any food and the cake I ordered was from Kaffeehaus Grafe. Anyway, the service was excellent and I like the stairway to the toilet, so extra.
Soonyata M — Google review
I haven't seen a waitress/hostess (the blonde one) that arrogant, imprudent and cocky in a looooong time. There was literally noone else besides me, yet she looked super annoyed that she had to "deal with me". So sad that the lovely view and this restaurant's reputation was completely ruined by a random service member.
Ralitsa K — Google review
The best restaurant in Jena! They offer a choice of tasting menu- vegetarian or non vegetarian. They focus on quality of ingredients as well as maximizing their vitamins and health benefits. Our waiter was very professional and patient, the menu was in German (no English option) but it’s quite easy since u have only 2 menu options. He explained all the dishes to us. The wait between each course was a bit long, so the dinner took quite a awhile - but it’s definitely worth it! Definitely a must - for foodies and gourmet food lovers.
Olga S — Google review
Very nice restaurant with an amazing 360 degrees view of Jena, which you cannot find anywhere else. Breakfast was also nice. My only negative feedback is that one staff (a red haired lady) was not kind at all with a negative attitude. I think she has to be much more careful towards the customers. Other than this, everything was top.

Historical landmark
The Johannistor, a historic gate tower first documented in the 14th century, stands as a remarkable testament to Jena's rich past. Rising 22 meters high, its gallery provides breathtaking views of the old city wall and the vibrant center of Jena. This iconic structure is not only one of the city's oldest buildings but also part of an intriguing local myth; students often avoid passing through it for fear that they might fail their exams.
One of the medieval gateway's of Jena, interesting historical landmark. Together with the wall and tower it gives a good impression of the historic defense works. Sadly it's seldom open.
Haitse W — Google review
One of the nicest old structures of Jena. The Johannistor (city gate) was a part of the old city wall and is the last part of it with the wall area to the Pulverturm (gun powder tower). Myth state that you shouldn't walk through the gate because you won't pass your examen if you do so. Therefore, most students of the city walk around it. There are days where you can go on the roof top of the Johannistor.

SUSHIFREUNDE Jena is a modern Japanese restaurant in Jena, offering a diverse menu of sushi, sashimi, and other Japanese specialties. The standout dish is the visually stunning dragon roll, filled with crabmeat and avocado, topped with tender eel slices and sweet eel sauce. The restaurant's modern ambiance features dark furniture and colorful walls. They offer not only meat-based dishes but also vegetarian and vegan options.
You can find the best Sushi here. Always fresh, always delicious. I totally recommend it.
Shima — Google review
The food is amazing! The fish tastes really fresh and yummy! The taste is altered to the German tounge, but there's still hint of Japanese taste into it. For a restaurant it's not that expensive but also not that cheap, typical restaurant price. The atmosphere is good to chat with friends and or lovers but it's missing the Japanese vibe. Overall very good!
Lukas L — Google review
I ordered from this place for lunch, but was very disappointed. Every sushi piece is too big and seems designed to be eaten in two bites. The tuna cut on the nagiri was square shaped and slightly chewy. The inside-out roll was filled with cream cheese which completely overwhelmed the entire taste! And they put chocolate cream on the green tea mochi which again completely overwhelmed the actual dish. I'll give a star for the packaging though, it was presented very well in a neat sealed box. Delivery time was 75 minutes to the city center.

Jena's Botanical Garden, part of the university, has been around since 1586 and serves both academic and research purposes. Open every day except Christmas and New Year's Eve, it offers a serene escape from the city center. For a small fee, visitors can explore its greenhouses and grounds. The garden boasts an extensive collection of plants from various regions, including tropical and desert climates. While wheelchair accessible for the most part, some narrow paths may pose challenges.
This place houses so many species (plants and animals), it's astonishing. There are giant butterflies here that land on you to say hi. But beware, piranha's are present Walking in the garden is absolutely wonderful

We had great time visiting the garden and many treasures it has. I can only recommend this place!

Good place for a relaxing moment in the heart of the city.

Nice botanical garden with a big green house section with lots of exotic plants, little frogs, a butterfly section (not so many when we visited) and quite a large outdoor area. It makes for a nice walk.
Kharuna R — Google review
Very easily accessible from the city center. Very soothing and peaceful to spend an hour or two, or longer with a book or company. 2.50€ with a student discount. There’s a free audio guide, only a 10€ deposit is needed. Quite interesting. There’s a few halls (different climates, one tropical, one desert) and a pleasant outside areas. Highlight were the couple tomato plants that could be picked. Watch out for poisonous plants, especially with kids.
Linda C — Google review
A wonderful collection and very carefully maintained conditions. Historical settings of the place also adds a lot to the atmosphere.
W T — Google review
Not expensive for a great park. One area was closed which was quite disappointing but also understandable. The rest of the park was quite impressive and well maintained. Would definitely recommend to visit!
Vincent V — Google review
Amazing tropical variety in the greenhouses and lovely gardens in the open air. The swarm of giant blue butteries and the big lilypads were great surprises.

Stadtkirche Sankt Michael stands as a magnificent testament to Jena's rich ecclesiastical history, having been a focal point of spiritual life for over seven centuries. Constructed in stages beginning in the 1380s, this stunning church was originally associated with a Cistercian monastery from the High Middle Ages. The choir was completed by the end of the 14th century, while work on the nave commenced in 1474 and wrapped up in 1557.
Such a beautiful city, I will come back again!

Beautiful beyond words. See the church and them see bell tower at noon !! Angelic!!😇

Very nice architecture. Local authorities should take care to forbid the young people gathering and drinking at the main doors.

Among the surviving fragments of the old city, this is particularly special and atmospheric.

One of the beautiful church in Jena city City centre. I came to know about the History and interesting facts about the church during Historical City tour of Jena. One of the oldest church in Jena, the construction started around 1381. This is also known as one of the seven wonders of Jena. In 1945 it was damaged badly.

Perched atop the towering JenTower, Restaurant Scala offers diners breathtaking views of Jena that enhance every meal. Imagine savoring a perfectly cooked steak or fresh fish while gazing at the twinkling city lights below. The restaurant prides itself on using high-quality, locally sourced ingredients to create exquisite dishes, with both vegetarian and non-vegetarian tasting menus available.

Very nice restaurant with an amazing 360 degrees view of Jena, which you cannot find anywhere else. Breakfast was also nice. My only negative feedback is that one staff (a red haired lady) was not kind at all with a negative attitude. I think she has to be much more careful towards the customers. Other than this, everything was top.

I stayed at this hotel during my business visit around Christmas time. Visited Christmas market nearby. The view from the hotel room was amazing. Room is quite modern with all the latest gadgets and electrical control of ambience light and blinds. Staff was friendly at reception and at the terrace bar. This is probably the Best hotel in Jena.

I generally avoid consuming red meat, but the Steakhouse am Johannistor - Daniel Alexandrov has such high quality and delicious bread and sauces that it's hard to resist their steak. Despite being pricey, I truly enjoy dining there due to its excellent location and skilled chef. The chimichuri sauce is a personal favorite, along with an appetizer consisting of unique soft bread and mayonnaise whose name escapes me. The food is served exceptionally well, with an unbelievably tasty flavor.
Very delicious food! We ordered matured Ribeye and a starter for 2. That was too much food for 2 small women 🤣 but we finished everything, because it was absolutely amazing! The interior and service are also top notch.

Excellent, well served, unbelievably tasty food. Waiters speak English, very friendly and ready to help you any minute. Clean, pleasant atmosphere. A little bit pricely, but, it is steak, so how can it be? For me, it was one of the best restaurant, that I have visited in the last few years, and I am not giving it full 5 just because it was too loudly there sometimes. 4,8!
Alex D — Google review
I dont like red meat and mostly I dont eat it. But there with that great quality and greatttþ bread and sauces it is mot possible to say no to steak. I really love there although it is expensive. 😅 really great location and chef. Thanks for this experience. I love there chimichuri sauce. Also the appetizer with very special soft bread and mayonnaise that I dont remeber its name.

Delicious steak, perfect prepared to order, spinach as side was amazing, nice crunchy fries. Perfect drinks too. Great service. Fluent English from all servers.
Janine Z — Google review
Visited friend here and decide to have a steak! The restaurant is located in an old tower building which is kind unique. Walking in, the place is spacious and crowded. Steak salad/ ribs/steak with cream potatoes are what we order. The ribs is not typical US style, but with giant bones. However, the meat is so tender and easy to rip off. The wine selection can be improved. Overall, it is a good dining experience and love the quality of the meals.

Delicious food! Very good prices and excellent service, very friendly and helpful!

Obviously not a place for vegetarians unless you want to enjoy undercooked pasta. There is a wide variety of meat cuts which are good but very pricey. Service is very good and their online reservation is great.

Vietnamese restaurant
Restaurant Saigon - Jena is a delightful Vietnamese eatery that has seen significant improvements recently, making it a must-visit spot in the heart of Jena. The ambiance is charming, adorned with beautiful paper lanterns that create a warm and inviting atmosphere. Diners can enjoy an array of flavorful dishes, including the standout Red Roasted Duck Curry and the five spice crispy duck platter, both known for their rich flavors.
Very good Vietnamese restaurant located near stadtzentrum Jena. The decor and ambience with the paper lanterns hanging from the ceiling is magnificent. They make some lovely cocktails such as the wild berry sour. My favourite dishes here are the five spice crispy duck platter and also the clear chicken soup when I am feeling under the weather.

Loved this Vietnamese restaurant ✨ The food was fantastic! It can get busy on weekends, so weekdays are best. Highly recommend the Signature Curry Mit Rice with Duck!

Recently edited This is a okay Vietnamese restaurant. The prices are a bit too much for the quality and quantity of the food. The food is really distinct though from other Asian restaurants. Update : the restaurant has improved a lot. Like really a lot. The dishes are now really yummy and the curries are really rich and not watered down. The prices are a bit expensive but competitive enough. The service has improved. Definitely worth regular visits. Try the lychee gimlet

Food servings are large. Good for two people. Flavors are good enough. The Pad Thai is tasty. Seating inside and outside.

Really long waiting time, and we have been here a few times, every time we wait for 45-60 mins or even more. What doesn't make sense is, like today we make our reservation at the time of this restaurant opens, and after all the other customers who came later than us got their dishes and ate for a while, we still don't get ours. The waiter and waitress were nice and the food was fine, but due to the unreasonable waiting time especially for us, we will not go there anymore

Soup was pretty good, bo bun was just ok with too much sauce.

It was a day trip to Jena to visit a friend. The first thing we did after my arrival was lunch. I ordered a Red Roasted Duck Curry. It was not that red at the end but was spicy enough. I took the special lunch deal which is cheaper than their normal menu and also got an ice tea for free. The food was tasty for me atleast. Num num! The service was friendly and the atmosphere was enjoyable.

Japanese restaurant
JEN Japanische Ramen Küche is a Japanese restaurant located in Jena, Germany. Situated at the Marktplatz, it brings the authentic taste of ramen to the city. Unlike traditional Japanese restaurants, this place focuses solely on serving delicious ramen dishes. The cozy and intimate setting offers a unique dining experience. While there's no full table service, the food quality makes up for it.
Brilliant ramen! I thought I’d never find one in Jena but here it is. I had a miso ramen with shashu and boiled egg. The soup is rich and thick, and all of the ingredients are giving authentic Japanese food. We were also served by a Japanese staff. Great experience, highly recommend!

The Ramen bowl was nice. Also liked the gyōza with the vinegar oil dipping sauce/ broth. Prices are reasonable.

Amazing food, like the one in Erfurt, but the location is small and cramped and the tables outside felt more like an afterthought. (Beer garden atmosphere) Well worth a visit, especially when it's not busy, but if you have the choice go for the Jen Ramen in Erfurt.

I am Japanese who living in Germany. Most of Ramen Restaurants in Germany are serving not qualified Ramen and food to customers by using “Japanese brand” But this Restaurant is different. Tasty food, nice atmosphere, appropriate price setting(Most of Japanese restaurant for example in Düsseldorf are quite pricy) and friendly service. I highly recommend this place and would like to come back here with clients, colleagues, and family :) ご馳走様でした🙏
Fumi N — Google review
Interesting location. Really good food with great prices. Concentrated on ramen. The place is very small but cozy. Unfortunately there is no real waitress service, you need to go and order by yourself then find a free place, they bring your food and then you have to go by your own to pay. But it’s nice. Not for hanging out, just to eat and go. The food is really good.
Kaya M — Google review
Exactly the same taste as the one I had in Japan some years ago. The soup is very rich and tasty. Noodle can be cooked slightly longer ( I like the noodle to be softer.) I will conclude that the taste and the portion are better than the branch in Erfurt. Will definitely come back again.
John L — Google review
Fresh, delicious and vegan-friendly! Many reviewers say that once you step in, you feel like you‘re transported to Japan. I wouldn‘t be able to tell, but I can confirm, that the atmosphere is amazing. The staff is friendly (even very friendly), the service is great, and the food.. oh the food.. excellent! The only thing I crave on a daily basis. Every time I visit Jena, I make sure to eat here. The soup is rich in taste, and the noodles really soft and chewy. The vegetables are very fresh and the best part is probably the crunchy broccoli. They also have enough vegan and kid-friendly options! 🌱

Great customer service. They were able to make exception for a reservation for us as we came all the way from Hamburg and a lovely rose that greeted us. Very friendly staff. The Spicy miso ramen was superb and delicious. In addition, the karaage was tasty and well marinated. Will come back again when we drop/pass by Thüringen. One recommendation though, they could already place the usual condiments for each table like the usual ramen bars, so we dont have to request them all the time and less work for them. Thumbs up for having Kirin beer.
