Manfredonia in 1 day

If you only have 1 day to spend in Manfredonia, we’ve narrowed down the top places you should check out to get the best experience of your time here.
Manfredonia is a coastal town in Puglia on the Gulf of Manfredonia, known for its long seafront promenade and nearby sandy beaches. The town centers on the Swabian-Angevin Castle and a cathedral that reflect its medieval origins under King Manfred. It also serves as a gateway to the Gargano Peninsula, with its national park, coastal cliffs, and mountain villages a short drive away. Fresh seafood, local festivals such as the Manfredonia Carnival, and easy access to nearby religious sites add to its appeal.
With favorites like Pizzeria Re Manfredi, Ai Due Dottori, and Spiaggia Libera, we’ll make sure you don’t miss out on all the must sees. We even included some of our favorite food spots around the area, like Marincanto and La Perla del Golfo so you can get the best taste of Manfredonia while you’re here. To see our full list of food recommendations, check out our best restaurants post. If you're traveling on a budget, you can check out our cheap eats post.

The Castle of Manfredonia is an imposing medieval fortress located by the sea, offering a poetic and historic experience. Visitors can enjoy a leisurely walk around the castle, taking in its impressive presence against the backdrop of the Gargano and the gulf. The castle is free to visit and has kind and knowledgeable staff, making it a great stop for families with kids. Additionally, nearby kiosks offer famous ice cream for a delightful treat after exploring this cool historic site.
Yes! A very big fortress in Manfredonia, the port that leads to Foggia in Puglia. The Castle dignifies this city, well structured near the Gargano mountains for boating and swimming

Well-stocked collection of ancient daunian stone slabs with amazing engravings and a massive amount of, well, swastikas. Could open more sections of the castle to the public. English descriptions and guided tours available.

Great castle and museum. Free on first Sunday.
Martin L — Google review
This is my wife's family's home town. Love the atmosphere. Greatly disappointed in the cleanliness around the castle. I would have thought that a centuries old castle would be treated better. I think King Manfred would be a bit upset to see his castle's surroundings.
Robert C — Google review
Great to see the outside, but no opportunity to see inside. The castle grounds were surrounded by garbage, but nice view of the bay.

Public beach
Spiaggia Libera is a unique beach known for its stunning backdrop of a majestic castle and mountains. The white sand, reminiscent of Mondello in Palermo, adds to its charm. While the beach may not always receive the best maintenance from the administration, the beautiful sea and occasional north winds contribute to its cleanliness. Visitors appreciate its proximity to the city center, ample space on the sand, and lack of overcrowding due to easy access as a free beach with nearby parking.
Not crowded, as for free beach it's very nice with easy access. There There are free car parks around.

(Translated by Google) A source of very fresh, sweet water flows directly into the sea, between the rocks, making that stretch of the Gulf of Manfredonia particularly crystalline. The most frequent visitors, those who have made those rocks their meeting point, take care of the cleanliness and decorum, showing great civic sense and above all great affection for the place. A small Gargano oasis in the city, free and available to anyone for a swim in the summer or a recharge of sun and blue in the winter.

Marina del Gargano Porto Turistico di Manfredonia (FG) is a charming waterfront destination with a modern marina offering finger berths for boats. The highlight of the area is the picturesque Manfredonia Lighthouse, an automated structure dating back to 1868. Visitors can enjoy stunning views from the top of this white octagonal prism tower, which emits flashes of light every five seconds.

Daria J — Google review
Nice new marina. For those with boats looking for a space it is unusual in having finger berths instead of the classic med-moor stern-to. Lots of facilities. Small shop, bars & restaurants for the land-lubbers who like a view of lots of fancy boats. Short walk, or (better) rent a bicycle into town. Lots of opportunities to explore the fantastic interior of Gargano.

Marincanto specializes in exquisite fish and seafood dishes that are sure to delight any palate.
Absolutely delicious! Everything we tried was splendidly done. One of the best meals we’ve had in all of Italy. The service was exemplary, with couvert changes and an attentive and amicable waiter, and the restaurant was spotlessly clean. Elegant, tasty, and absolutely recommended. This is not one of the best restaurants that you can find but it's not as bad as others said. I've been there only once, I ate seafood, pasta, and meat. I admit that the seafood was not good enough for me but I really liked meat and pasta. The prices are moderate, not high. It has a nice view and seats outside, suggested for those who prefer eating and relaxing with a nice view.

If you're on the hunt for a delightful lunch spot, look no further than Pizzeria Re Manfredi! This charming eatery offers an impressive selection of pizzas that have left many visitors raving about their flavors. Diners have enjoyed classics like the diavola and marinara, with some claiming it's among the best pizza they've tasted in Italy. The generous portions and fresh ingredients make every bite a treat. The atmosphere is relaxed, making it perfect for a casual meal or gathering with friends.
A great find for lunch! The service was great and the pizzas fantastic. Best pizza I’ve had in Italy so far and I live in Napoli. I had the diavola and my wife had the marinara pizza and the sauce was out of this world. We had two pizzas and a salad, 1ltr of beer and 1 coke and the bill was only €29.50! The pizzas were also huge.

If you find yourself in Manfredonia, make sure to stop by Ai Due Dottori for a delightful dining experience right by the sea. The ambiance is simply enchanting, making it an ideal spot for dinner. As a vegetarian, I was pleasantly surprised by the variety of delicious options available. For those who enjoy seafood, starting with mussels is highly recommended! The perfectly cooked steak served with arugula and grana was a highlight of my meal.
Beautiful location at the harbour. The sushi is excellent and the service very nice and attentive. We had cocktails as unfortunately there was no red wine or sake on the menu. All in all, however, it was a great stay.

Very sad, they are unable to make a proper carbonara. We ordered 2. One the pasta was undercooked, but edible. The other was completely inedible undercooked pasta. We asked them if they could cook the pasta so it was edible. They brought back out with watered down scrambled eggs sauce. Completely unacceptable. Shame on you chef.

STAY AWAY from this restaurant ..... I WENT FOR DINNER with my family order pizza for my kids and mention that to send it right away ..came after 45 min ,order raw seafood the dish came missing stuff and I asked is this complete the waiter said yes, wrong was missing item and Head Waiter said the kitchen is tired....I order grill fish and came uncooked... My wife mixed fish tartar came as CHUNKS OF FISH The thing what is the cherry of the cake The owner when i spoke with her ,she had the audacity to even argue that she never came to the table when she was the one that i complain for the pizza not arriving and charge me service charge as well.. WE ARE NOT TALKING ABOUT A PIZZERIA THEY CALL THEMSELVES A HIGH END RESTAURANT I DO NOT DEFINITELY RECOMMEND THIS RESTAURANT

The most disgusting Carbonara. Disappointed is an understatement. After ordering Carbonara, the pasta was not al dente, it was very hard. When asked to please cook the pasta longer I received back the worst meal I have ever seen. Scrambled egg, bacon and hard pasta. That Carbonara should never have left the kitchen, absolutely disgusting. I have never seen Carbonara like this before, it was completely inedible.

You will never go wrong starting with the mussels 😍 Knew I had a vegan dinner later, so perfectly cooked steak with arugula and grana was needed. That said, the fish the table ordered behind us was beautiful, even before it was cooked lol

I had a decent experience eating on a sea shore with a very good ambient and tasty food. I am a vegetarian, and I find it easy to find suitable food that is delicious. I recommend to visit atleast once if you are in Mafredonia, especially for dinner.

Avoid this is a terrible restaurant with awful staff. It says it opens at 7 but when arrived at ten past the waiter with a snotty attitude said the Kitchen doesn't open till half past. No "come have a drink while you wait" which would've been good customer service doesn't look like they know how to treat customers well at all. Came back at 7.45 and they were still not ready, no tables laid, waited at the entrance for 5 minutes and was ignored by all the staff. If you don't want customers and want to go out of business keep doing what your doing you will go bust pretty quickly. Went to a better restaurant further down who knows how to treat customers well was served immediately and treated like they wanted my business.
