Castiglione della Pescaia is a coastal Tuscan town known for its long sandy beaches and consistently clean, clear water. The area is also a gateway to the Maremma’s nature reserves and archaeological sites, making it easy to combine beach time with hiking and day trips. Fresh seafood, relaxed seaside promenades and a compact, walkable center add to its appeal as a low-key holiday base.

We went to see flamingos. The visitor center was not open so we went for a shorts walk with our kids. We saw a few flamingos. They were just white and not pink.

Beautiful spot for bird watching. Male sure to bring binoculars with you. Also mosquito spray. You can also book a boatstour lasting 1h.

Friendly, professional guides at the museum and a nice evening walk. Be aware of opening hours.

Never visit it in Summer! Too hot and humid. I almost fainted. Plus...avoid the boat tour. Too short and too expensive. 12 euros each!!! Holy smokes! You can birwatch the same from the roof of the Red House Ximenes. Or walk to the observation point for free.

We had a lovely walk today round the reserve. They do need to replace the notice boards with details of the wildlife as they unreadable.

Castiglione Della Pescaia is indeed a beautiful and interesting place, but in certain places, especially in the evening hours, it is flooded with an inexhaustible crowd of tourists, which somewhat spoils the impression. It also deviates upwards in price compared to other places in the area. But it has an interesting old core, built around and under a medieval castle, with some churches, palaces and squares. The city is clean, and the surrounding area is also worth seeing...

(Translated by Google) The Castle that dominates the village originates from a watchtower built by the Pisans and was expanded in the 15th century by the Aragonese until it took on the appearance of a real fortress. In the following two centuries the other two towers were built, while the curtain walls and the buildings between them were built in the Renaissance period. Modified under Cosimo I and then with the Lorena family at the end of the 18th century, it underwent a total restoration in the early 20th century by the architect Lorenzo Porciatti, who made it his private residence. It cannot be visited as it is private property. The castle consists of three corner towers crowned by battlements at the top, the most massive of which is the original Torre Pisana. The building is located on the western side which looks towards the sea, while on the other sides the area of the complex is delimited by curtain walls which delimit an internal courtyard. Another curtain wall, equipped with battlements, begins from the south-western tower and delimits the area around the southern side of the castle. Near the tower, an arched door opens which leads to a panoramic terrace.

Seafood restaurant
Ristorante La Casa Rossa, also known as Casa Ximenes, is a unique historical site originally built as a hydraulic damper in the 18th century. Today, it serves as a multimedia museum and visitor center within the nature reserve. The restaurant offers fresh fish and seafood with limited but fairly priced options. It's located away from the city center, providing a casual and unpretentious dining experience with friendly service. Visitors can expect quality food made from locally sourced fresh produce.
Went for many years in Castiglione and didn’t knew about this Restaurant, wish I had found it sooner. They just serve fresh fish, it comes with a price - more than fair - and with a “limited choice”. We were pretty early and the fisherman came in with fresh fished shrimps. You know you eat quality food here. The service was very nice. We forgot to take the picture before because the food looked too good. It’s not directly in the city center so find a parking spot shouldn’t be that hard.

A first in regular trips to Castiglione Della Pescaia , this restaurant is sort of off the beaten tourist haunts , very casual , good service , the place was busy , but I certainly think food cooked fresh (not pre-prepared like some fast turnover places) expect easy , casual laid back style , nice leaning you local fresh fish produce , I would definitely recommend booking a spot in sure you'll enjoy , very unpretentious . Please note in n pictures the starter of one of my favourites if fresh is muscles (cozze) , nice spicy/garlic cooked soup was a before and after ! 😎😉😂 As one does

Posto Pubblico Dei F.lli Cech in Castiglione Della Pescaia is a favorite spot that was stumbled upon by chance with family a few years ago. It has an amazing ambiance and is situated in the elevated part of town. The friendly and knowledgeable staff prioritize COVID safety rules, making visitors feel comfortable. Recently, their new pizza menu was tried, and it did not disappoint.
A gem in the very historical centre of Castiglione! Researchers on food and wine, clearly passionate about their job and selected ingredients, they can easily seat a family with children thanks to their menus split into ‘restaurant’ and ‘pizzeria’. To each their own. Very few choices to be honest, but great quality all over. Absolutely friendly and competent staff. Don’t miss it, whether you’re planning a date night or a meal with your kids.

Gorgeous dining experience in medieval courtyard. Food was thoughtfully and beautifully prepared, the wine recommendations were equally sublime - we had a seafood tasting menu and each dish was exquisite. Lovely attentive service too.

This restaurant is a small gem in Castiglione. Located in the heart of the old town close to the castle, the restaurant offers a unique atmosphere. We had a 9 course tasting menu. They were all excellent. The quality of the products is top notch, and the different dishes are very well prepared and tasty. Staffs are welcoming and well prepared, they suggested us very good wine and explained the origin of the different ingredients used in the dish. The dinner is a culinary experience. If you plan to go there, do not expect a quick dinner (our 9 courses dinner took 2h30). You need to take your time to savor and absorb the different flavors. If you are looking for something different and very high quality you found your place. Absolutely recommended

One of my favourite places in Castiglione Della Pescaia. We discovered it with my mum by chance a few years back and since then we come at least once per summer when I'm back to visit from London. Incredible atmosphere, in the higher part of town. Super cordial and very knowledgeable staff (a lot of attention towards COVID safety rules too). This time around we got to try their new pizza menu and I must say they didn't disappoint. Absolutely fabulous food and experience! We had the seafood carbonara, the seafood risotto, the grilled seafood plate for two, and ended with the Crème Brûlée. Everything was amazing. We had a wonderful evening together in this beautiful restaurant. Due to high occupancy, we were offered a special table in a separate room. The room resembled an old cellar vault, where the wine was also stored. It was wonderfully romantic, and we greatly enjoyed the privacy. All the waiters were extremely friendly and took excellent care of us. The food was also excellent! The seafood dishes are especially recommended. I would come back anytime. It was a very special experience!

We tried to have a drink here but were refused. The staff spoke very little English and didn’t make any effort to communicate with us. At first, they told us that drinks alone were not possible and that we had to order food. We agreed, saying we would take something to eat, but then they said everything was reserved. It felt as though, because we weren’t Italian speakers, they simply didn’t want to serve us. Very rude experience! 😕

Went there twice in the last three days. First we got the last available table (without reservation) and received a great seat in the wine cellar which was basically a candle light dinner with perfect privacy. If you are ever is Castiglione Della Pescaia, definitely book a table at this restaurant. It’s tucked away closer to the top of the castle with these nice little booths outside and beautiful decoration outside. The staff is VERY friendly and their knowledge of English refreshing (I had difficulty communicating at other restaurants in the area). They were also very helpful with booking a table and making sure I was comfortable. A very over priced restaurant. The main waiter was rude and rushed us, promising amazing food. My fish was dry and overcooked, I think it was microwaved. The drinks were very expensive. The waiter who gave us the bill looked embarrased. Avoid this place.

Food. Was MEH. Picana (steak) was chewey and you could barely swallow. It was 26 euros. I pay that much for a good steak. Not this terrible meat. The fish (orata) was so dry it tasted like dry salmon. Actually I wish it tasted like dry salmon. It was worse than that. Terrible presentation as well. We ordered some bread. He asked us if it was good and we said yes. He brought back another one and charged us for the second when we never asked for it. He seemed like a scammer. Mind you we speak Italian so he understood us perfectly. Don’t even get me started on the dessert. It was frozen. I told him it was frozen and he was like ok. He convinced us to get the dessert and it was terrible. 8 euros each dessert? Most expensive I’ve had there. Also the servers grab the cups of water by the mouth with his fingers honestly gross. Just don’t even bother. Go anywhere else. 5 euros for tap water? Not even an acqua Pana or from a bottle. WHO CHARGES 5 euros FOR filtered TAP WATER???? Charged us for water with gas when we never even asked for it…. Picture is the tiramisu that was FROZEN. 70 euros per person is crazy for nasty food. 250 euros with no wine???? Crazy…

We had an excellent seafood meal on the beach. Our waitress Gracia was very attentive and helpful with our selection. My wife had the salty crust sea bass that was very good. I had the king prawns over new potatoes.

This place was AMAZING! Location can’t be better and the selection of fresh-from-the-day fish is excellent. We tried the appetizers, salads and a couple of the Chef recommended fish and EVERYTHING was delicious. Chef Alessio was there and with his ‘joie de vivre’ and passion, he created a wonderful experience for our group of friends that whole afternoon. Chef Alessio also made wonderful recommendations on wineries to visit in Tuscany, which we did the following day, and it was excellent as well - Az.
