Public beach
Lyme Regis Beach is a popular spot in the heart of Lyme Regis, England, offering both sandy and pebbly areas. The beach is well-protected from erosion by seawalls near the Cobb, making it a favorite for families due to its calm and clean waters. Situated next to the 14th-century harbor, this beach provides stunning views of the Dorset coast.
Sunny afternoon in Lyme Regis, a leisurely stroll in the gardens with a Dark & Stormy to quench my thirst. These beach front bars/cafes are so handy for a drink, bite to eat or just indulging a bit of people watching. Lovely way to while away an afternoon 😀
Annie C — Google review
Lovely little town although driving larger vehicles / vans through the streets can be a bit stressful ! Narrow and sharp bends some are traffic light controlled which is great but others were not. Loved the beach and the gardens overlooking the harbour.
Jane L — Google review
There is a lovely sandy beach and also a pebble beach. Also saw an area for dogs to enjoy the water. Found a pathway from a carpark down to the promenade 114 steps, there is a hand rail but some of the steps were quite a deep step down. Walked back to the car park via the town avoiding the steps but it's quite a steep hill to climb and some of the pavements are quite narrow, you need to walk one behind the other.
Judy R — Google review
Lovely town with plenty of coffee, cake, restuarants and pubs, quirky shops and brewery outlet alongside bakery that mills it own flour that you can watch. One sandy beach and pebbles either side. can park down by harbour or up the hill above harbour. Have a good walk around town, so you dont miss the hidden gems.
Matthew N — Google review
Small beach. Very clean with some sandy areas and some pebble. Small harbour. A lovely half day out for us for somewhere different to go whilst driving over from Weymouth. Plenty of interesting shops to look in. Cafes, ice-cream, fudge and lots of different places to eat to suit all budgets. Definitely worth a stay or a visit for an English seaside gem.
Katie T — Google review
Lyme is one of my favourite places to visit, but I must admit I avoid it during the summer! Recently attended a show in the Marine Theatre on a Sunday night in October but could not find any restaurants open bar burger places, which was a shame, before the performance. Drove to The Anchor at Seatown instead to eat!
K T — Google review
Lyme is lovely but way too busy in summer for me. Not into all the crowds. Lovely little town. Easy to park a little way out of town. Manic driving system through the place though.
Amanda H — Google review
Areas of sandy beaches from the left of the sailing club, which proceeds into clean stoney beach. Good swimming areas marked out and observed by very good life guarding stations. Showers positioned along the edges of the beach promenade, beaches are cleaned and packed ready for the next day. Lyme Regis is a beautiful little seaside town. Highly recommend to visit. Great local shops, plenty of coffee and food options.

Food was great. Went here twice when we were down for a long weekend. The muscles were a generous portion and very big and tasty. Only had seafood here and it was all good. If you are there in peak season I would recommend making a booking

Pricey but lovely for a treat. I had lovely veg lasagne with v good chips, salad. Of particular note was the treacle tart with a generous amount of clotted cream which was very yummy indeed!

The food was amazing!! The mussels were so delicious, the chips were the best, and the food was extremely tasty!! Would definitely come again.👌🏼👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

It is well placed close to the Cobb and has lots of seating. Quite a good atmosphere during the day. Three of us eat there all having the same, two thought the fish and chips were ok, one was disappointed. Not much of an exaggeration to say that one of the fish portions was more batter than fish. The chips were not the best we have eaten. For the price we expected better but I guess you are paying for the location. However, the staff were really helpful and friendly.

Absolutely amazing! I didn’t expect much from a sea side inn but we were blown away! Especially having eaten somewhere quite posh the day before which didn’t live up to its reviews- we couldn’t believe the skill of the chef! Never tasted anything like it! We had the catch of the day- gurnard which was so beautifully presented and exquisite flavours with leek and bacon fricasse and pea croquette with shoe string fries- wow! The chocolate pudding was delicious too! So lovely to be by the sea with that atmosphere! morris dancing outside, dog welcome and fast service. Couldn’t speak more highly of the place. Will definitely recommend to friends and return some day! Thanks for a lovely evening! Stunning local art on the walls too!

Really delicious lunch. Perfect table, as suited the special request that I made on booking. Lovely atmosphere. The only issue that I found was that after we were seated and were given the Menu’s, we were left for 20minutes without any service at all. During those 20minutes - 2 tables were served their desserts and we saw no-one at the area of the restaurant until 20minutes had passed and I summonsed a waitress to serve us with some drinks and our choice of meal - just incase we had to wait another 20mins before they returned. This was redeemed by the beautiful lunch. But ruined the initial impression of our visit.

Enjoyed the superb food served up by the kitchen today. Amazing quality and taste, Sadly let down by a poor performance by the front of house team. Not a smile between them and almost felt we were an inconvenience. Hopefully the kitchen get to share the tip and maybe brought a glimmer of a smile to the front of house team. The food was hot and delicious - just what we needed.

The Cobb Arms is a charming vintage-style family-run pub located opposite a harbor. The warm rooms and free English breakfast make for a cozy stay. Guests can take leisurely walks along the South West Coast Path or explore the gardens, with the option to stroll along The Cobb. Additionally, visitors can indulge in fresh lobster at the nearby smokehouse recommended by chef Scott Smith. For those interested in Indian cuisine, there are options available within close proximity to The Cobb Arms.
Popped in on Friday 15th Aug hoping to get some food without a booking, the staff were very friendly and got us a table for two. We had an absolutely FANTASTIC meal, 2 pies with all the trimmings, all hot, fresh and beautiful quality. Well done all involved, the friendly staff and the kitchen crew, keep producing these kind of meals and we'll keep coming back..............many thanks :)

I went to just the restaurant and despite all the awards that are shown on the wall it wasn't great. The staff were incredibly friendly, it's just the food that let them down. The red lettuce thing I had with my burger was covered in oil, the pickle had the strangest mint taste to it (but that's probably just personal choice) and the edges of the burger were burnt to a crisp. The veg my partner had was very nice, crunchy and buttery We were told that the menu was changing tomorrow so I appreciate we might of gotten the bits they were trying to get rid of ready for the next day. I am however willing to try out their new menu

Took my mum down to Lyme Regis as it's her favourite local seaside . Stopped at the Cobb for lunch with no great expectations but hey it was very nice , friendly staff we had scampi and chips and Hake and chips both nicely served up at our table food looked good and tasted even better well above seaside pub fare the white wine a Marlborough was also good served at the right temperature in a decent glass, and finally to top it off the coffee was also good. The only reason I gave it 4 stars not 5 is the complete lack of views from inside the pub , I believe you can see out of two of the window on the sea side. Good job worth a visit

I spent a week in lyme Regis for my 50th last week and visited the Cobb, twice for food and my last night for a drink... I cant praise the staff enough, especially lisa. Lisa I thank you very much, helpful, bubbly and a good sense of humour, I'm sad I missed you my last night. As for the food, it was amazing, the mashed potato especially. I will be telling all my family to visit The Cobb if they are ever near, I will come back again on my next holiday Thank you all

The only positive when visiting this pub was the lovely staff. When we arrived there were numerous dirty tables . The table was cleared it wasn’t wiped . Food is obviously frozen. The vegetables were hardly cooked and drenched in strong garlic butter . The fish cakes were not as described. If we were so hungry we would have sent it back. We isn’t our 1st time to this pub but truly disappointed at how run down it has become.

Pub on the seafront with excellent selection of beers. Food was great and the staff were lovely. Great place to have a chill and a beer in the sun after the beach. Only thing that would improve it is if they had WiFi, hardly a deal breaker!

Restaurant
The Oyster & Fish House is a trendy seafood restaurant with stunning views over the harbor. Located above Lyme Regis famous Cobb, it offers panoramic views across the Jurassic Coast. Run by renowned chef Mark Hix, who prioritizes local and seasonal ingredients, the restaurant focuses on simple yet high-class dishes.
If you are a seafood lover, and love a foodie experience that you won’t get anywhere else, and you want to spoil yourself, then this is the place to be! Even if you’re not staying in Lyme Regis, it really is worth a drive to dine here. Having grown up on the coast, I’ve eaten a lot of seafood, and thought I’d had most versions of it, however, my mind was genuinely blown away by the beautifully delicious, but novel twists on food I thought I knew!! Cockle popcorn, scrumpy fried oyster with scotch bonnet mayonnaise, 6 oysters with ponzu to die for, and a whole grilled mackerel with gremolata! I shall never forget these dishes! Desert was also amazing, with the finest pastry I’ve ever tasted. Front of house legend, Phoebe, was as much part of the experience, and her knowledge of all of the dishes was as impressive as her manner, and efficiency. It was an all-round wonderful experience that we’ll do again as soon as we can!!

Great views. Attentive staff. Good food. Fair to expensive on pricing. My 3rd visit over the years. Place and decor is now looking tired. Very sticky tables. Easily resolved with some linen table cloths. Smoke from kitchen irritated my partner's eyes. Unlikely to return.

We held our wedding reception at the Oyster and Fish House on 27/04/24 and we cannot thank everyone in the team enough for helping to make our wedding day so special. The service from the moment we booked was great, Jo and Nic were very responsive to any of our questions and helped to plan and prep our day by meeting with us several times beforehand to ensure everything was planned the way we had imagined. In addition we had a meeting with Mark Hix where he helped to design a bespoke menu. Thank you so much Mark, the menu was incredible! On the wedding morning the staff were incredibly helpful and set the tables and decorations up for us. Everything was laid out perfectly on arrival and all the guests were greeted warmly with champagne and gorgeous canapes. The staff were fantastic and brilliant hosts, chatting with all our guests and ensuring everyone's glasses were topped up as needed. We also want to thank the chefs, the food was exceptional, plentiful and beautifully presented. We could not finish it all despite our best efforts! It really was a day to remember, and our wedding felt unique and special to us. We had 38 guests in total, the size of the restaurant was perfect for providing an intimate setting. The beautiful view of the coast and Cobb is also a bonus. Before our wedding we had eaten at the Oyster and Fish House several times, and on each occasion the food and service were faultless, we will definitely be back. We would like to say thank you again to everyone at the Oyster and Fish House! Hannah and Ben

A fantastic meal. The seafood was extremely fresh and everything was made with great care and attention to detail. It’s the first time we’ve had cockles popcorn and it was delicious - especially with vinegar drizzled on top. The mussels were divine and the prawn burger was very filling and packed with prawn. The scrumpy (fried oyster) was very well made - considering how wet oysters can get, it was impressive that they came out so crispy. The team was attentive and the place has a lovely view. Very glad we found this place during our visit and managed to book a table.

Absolutely lovely evening with a fantastic view over Lyme Regis and the port. The food, although we only went for starter and oysters, was absolutely delicious and fresh as they come. The staff were, attentive, friendly and just amazing. Yes, as a few others have commented it is a pricier than usual restaurant but it’s worth it for a special evening.
Kenneth L — Google review
The setting and building is absolutely gorgeous, but the servers and food make this spot a must. Freya was accommodating to our large party with 2 toddlers and made us feel like we were eating at a friends home. Her welcoming spirit and overall passion for the menu made for the best experience. I was so satisfied with the miso fruto , hake, monkfish pie and the soda bread is to die for . Will definitely be back!
Lynsi W — Google review
Great staff, food was great. Reason for only 3 stars is that they gave us not the nicest table in the house as there were a couple of larger tables which made a lot of noise and we sat right next to it. So no option anymore to dine in peace or talk to each other. They should consider this better in the future or let guests know in advance. We managed to get a table outside, but also there was a larger table. Put in middle of 3x tables with couples. Maybe logistically organise this better so all have a good time.
Marieke — Google review
A fantastic seafood restaurant perched on the hillside overlooking the Cob in Lyme Regis. We had a wonderful meal soaking in the relaxed atmosphere, while watching holiday makers enjoying the last of the sun down on the beach. Amazingly fresh crab, so large my dining partner had to help me finish it. I would recommend the popcorn cockles and the two different types of oysters, both delicious, and distinctly different. The service was excellent, and the staff very knowledgeable about the dishes on offer. Our waitress did a wonderful job persuading us to try both types of oysters, a decision we did not regret. We finished the evening with a walk down to the harbour, to find a pub for a drink before heading home. People were still on the beach at 9pm as the weather was so hot. A word of caution if you're not staying in Lyme Regis. There are only a few taxis available in the town, having arrived by bus from our base, we were looking at a long walk home along unlit country lanes. Luckily one the chefs at the Cob arms heard our predicament and as he lived in the village were we were based kindly offered us a lift home when his girlfriend picked him up at the end of his shift. An immense stroke of luck to end a fantastic evening out. Highly recommended and we are planning to try the London branch at some point.

Ice cream shop
The Baboo Gelato Lyme Regis ice cream shop offers a wide variety of delicious plant-based ice cream flavors, including chocolate, nut, caramel, lemon sorbet, and vegan brown sugar. The quality is exceptional despite the slightly higher prices. The staff is knowledgeable about serving coeliacs and provides gluten-free cones upon request. They take precautions to prevent cross contamination by scooping from a fresh tub of ice cream. This shop is highly recommended for its tasty treats.
The employees were so kind complimenting my husband and I on our outfits. The double chocolate ice cream was honestly the best I ever had. Unfortunately, a seagull swiped my cone from me, but they were so kind as to give me a new one free of charge when we went back to buy a second one. We will definitely return!!

Can't quite believe I'm saying this after (probably too many) ice creams around the country/world. But this was the best ice cream I've ever tasted. The Maple and Walnut was absolutely beautiful, but the Salted Caramel was genuinely perfect. Pieces of caramel and occasional flakes of salt running the whole way through were lush! Ate it far too quickly to take a photo!
Dave A — Google review
Really excellent gelato in beautiful locations. Would love a bit more flavour variety but maybe that’s a sign we went too many times!

I bought maple and walnut (absolutely gorgeous) and raspberry ripple. Started to eat the maple but got mugged by three gulls and lost the raspberry. Went back to buy a replacement and the friendly young man gave me one free of charge. Will definitely buy from here again. PS the raspberry ripple also very good, fruity and creamy.

Fish and chips takeaway
Fish & chips restaurant
Herbies is a charming takeaway spot located right by the sea, offering a classic fish and chip experience for tourists. Visitors can savor their meal on the beach or opt for delicious baps and burgers if seafood isn't their preference. Located in Lyme Regis, this eatery is perfect for a day trip in Dorset. While it's primarily a takeout joint with affordable prices, some customers have noted longer wait times during busy periods.
The best fish and chips we've had cooked fresh while we waited. Thin crispy batter, boneless fish, tartar sauce, a slice of lemon and crisp and fluffy chips. Sat on the Cobb overlooking the harbour. Nothing better
Jeff R — Google review
I hadn't read any reviews before ordering my Haddock and chips, waited a few minutes for it to be freshly cooked. Served with a slice of lemon by a very friendly young guy who told me it was fresh and local and obviously took pride in what he served. I was not disappointed, absolutely fabulous! I have to say I enjoyed the chips which were nice and crispy. Five stars from me, but be warned, one portion could feed two or maybe even three. It was huge!
Mikky B — Google review
Had the whitebait and chips. The fish was good and nicely fried but the chips were a real let down. The whole thing tasted dry and needed a couple more minutes in the fryer. Also they didn't ask if I wanted salt and vinegar which added to the dry taste of the chips which I had to throw away as it was too difficult to eat.
Jagdeep D — Google review
Average fish and chips. The fish was freshly cooked so it was nice enough. The main thing to point out is that the chips are NOT traditional 'fish and chip shop' chips, they're more like frozen chips that are quite dry. I'd definitely find something more inland that isn't such a tourist trap.
Natalie F — Google review
Great fisn and chips, freshly cooked, crisp light batter and soo tasty. Friendly staff and would definitely go there again. Thanks guys
Alice W — Google review
We live 50 miles from Lyme Regis, but whenever we visit, we always get a portion of whitebait and chips to share. It's plenty for two and excellent quality - probably the best whitebait we have ever had in this country (following closely behind the whitebait in Greece). Chips are also beautifully cooked and non greasy. We'll be back soon!

We ordered haddock & chips and salt & pepper squid. All freshly cooked to order and served with a slice of lemon and tartare sauce. Really delicious. Don't be fooled by the bigger queue next door, we tried theirs and it was not freshly cooked to order and very mediocre.

The Royal Standard is a charming 400-year-old family-run pub located in Lyme Regis, Dorset, right by the seafront and next to the famous Cobb. It's known for its unpretentious menu featuring freshly caught seafood and traditional pub grub. As one of Palmers brewery's flagship pubs, it offers a wide selection of well-kept real ales and ciders.
At about £20 a head including drinks this was a lovely spot to eat. Portion sizes were incredible and food arrived quickly and fresh. Staff were very accommodating and environment was lovely. Reminded me of an old pub nice and rustic with lovely music and nice and warm

Loved it! Really great to find a place where you can have a classic pub meal, or change it up and have Greek food! I had halloumi gyros and it was delicious and HUGE, especially for the price paid. Really friendly staff and amazing value for money. Sad I’m not a local!
Isabel M — Google review
No mark for food as we stayed for only one drink before heading back to the car to travel back to Weymouth. I had a beer and my partner and 2 friends had coffee's (cappuccino and 2 latte's). Great clean pub next to a flowing stream and a small stones throw from the beach. Service was great and very helpful. Male toilets were clean and tidy. We sat in the pub garden, there is an small upper area to eat and drink with a great view of the Dorset Jurassic coast.

Fantastic food, we had the ploughman's, everything was fresh, and lots of it, the sour dough was to die for... We will definitely be back... Thankyou...
Jason D — Google review
Took our children in for what we hoped would be some nice fresh sea food by the sea. Won't go back and we're local. Greek starter was nice, tasty pub grub. Kids had some standard fish n chips. Had the Catch of the Day on Mashed New Potatoes with Crab. Informed it was Bream. The plate of food looked the part, but tasted of nothing but Salt. An old Chefs trick to cover something? Kept eating, my body and mouth immediately rejected the Bream. Pulling the Bream apart, the fish was opaque and clearly pink through out. I rarely complain about food but I was starving and having been a chef myself I expect something at least edible and certainly not uncooked. I returned the dish to the bar and asked for a Chicken Burger instead. The barman returned a few minutes later with my cutlery and informed me "The Chef has said that's exactly how Bream is supposed to be cooked and there was nothing wrong with your meal. However we will cook you something different" I couldn't be bothered to argue as our children were present. I only wish I had taken a photo of the uncooked Bream and perhaps a sample as I would've been unwell if id eaten it.. A while later, I was brought an interesting meaty burger that tasted ok with chips, but definitely wasn't the Chicken Burger I'd asked for (which is usually a safe bet for a questionable Chef as it's deep fried).. I finished most of it and the Chips. If you do eat here, avoid anything claiming to be 'fresh' or caught today!?!? We won't be returning.
Neil T — Google review
3 of us went for lunch and ordered the moussaka, unfortunately it was the worst I've ever had, flavour was OK but all three meals were dried out the top and sides were burnt to a crisp. We complained and were told it's always like that, that's how Moussaka is!! We were offered replacements, I had souvlaki, which was nice, good chips. My fellow dinners couldn't be bothered to change after the attitude of (I assume the manager) they won't be going back, which is unfortunate as we were looking forward to moussaka and they have a local holiday home.
Mark S — Google review
Had the Greek special, chicken and pork souvlaki, was excellent value for money and a lovely place to eat. With over 400 years of history this little pub is definitely worth a visit.
Andy A — Google review
We approached the pub from the seafront, having not visited before. Walking into the garden, I honestly thought we were entering a Greek restaurant and was quite surprised to find a quaint, traditional pub inside! The food was delicious, we loved the Greek specialities and the vegans in our group were pleased with so many choices. Would definitely return again.

Day 2

Center of town
For day 2, we recommend exploring the center side of town. Start the day off with The Cobb, then wind down and take it easy by the time you get to The Pilot Boat. All together, your day would be filled with about 7 hours of non-stop fun.

Points of Interest & Landmarks
Nestled among the charming eighteenth-century warehouses, The Cobb in Lyme Regis is not just a stunning sea wall; it’s a gateway to adventure. This historic structure, with origins dating back to the 13th century, stretches an impressive 870 feet into the English Channel and has been meticulously rebuilt over time. As you stroll along its length, you'll feel the drama of history enveloping you—this iconic landmark has graced films and literature alike.
I'd never been to Lyme Regis before, but we watched 'The French Lieutenant's Woman' the other night, and it's only an hour from home, so we thought we'd go. 'The Cob' is the breakwater that takes the worst of the storms to keep the harbour safe. It was a windy, wet day and the water wash lashing against the cob - perfect. There was a little aquarium there too, so we went in and fed 'the mullets'. Lyme Regis is a gorgeous seaside town. Much more salubrious than the usual seas-side towns full of amusement arcades and tat shops. Definitely worth a day trip, if not a few days there. We also did some fossil hunting, and came away with a good haul of fossils. Woohoo ! The Mary Anning statue was lovely to see too ... such amazing dedication to her chosen career.
Stu L — Google review
Parked just outside of Lyme Regis harbour in a large pay & display car park, as parking anywhere near the harbour is nigh-on impossible! Lovely windy day, along the seafront onto the infamous Cobb. Great to retrace our steps from a childhood holiday many moons ago. Plenty of fossil shops & food places to suit all budgets.
Natalie A — Google review
Beautiful little harbour with sea trips and a museum. Nice walk up on the harbour walls in good weather but don’t be a Nelly and try it when the seas are stormy as you don’t want to end up in the drink.
Mick S — Google review
As a lifelong Persuasion fan, this was a bucket list visit. The Cobb did not disappoint. A walk along the seawall is not for anyone who does not like heights or water, as you are up where it's quite blustery and there are no railings. Stunning views of the sea and you cannot beat the atmosphere.
A M — Google review
An amazing place for a wander with great views over the harbour, seafront and Jurassic coastline...on a clear day you can see as far as Portland. The best walk is along the top wall if you don't mind the height. The Cobb is famous and mentioned in Jane Austin's 'Persuasion' and it has been used in several films, including 'The French Lieutenant's Woman' with Meryl Streep and more recently 'Wonka'.

Fantastic walk along the sea wall top and bottom

Nice place to walk around sea walls, sit on one of the benches with your lunch, and great for nice photos.

The beautiful Cobb forms the harbour at Lyme Regis. Steeped in hundreds of years of maritime history (local and world-wide). It’s a working harbour so expect small fishing vessels offloading at times, along with unguarded drops and uneven paving in places. The Cobb is the focal piece for the ‘Candles on the Cobb’ fundraiser for charities, held every three years, where the public purchase a candle in memory of someone no longer with us, music is played in the buildup to the lighting of the 5000 candles, followed by moving poetry and a few minutes of silence. Over 260 volunteers make this event run smoothly for the 10,000 visitors. Last held 24th August 2025. The RNLI lifeboat station is located at the entrance to The Cobb. During the summer season fishing and sight-seeing trips start here. Close by you’ll find various local shops and food outlets to meet most holiday needs

Located in The Cobb, Lyme Regis Marine Aquarium is a small 2-room attraction that offers an interactive experience for visitors to learn about the local sea life. Run by a family, this aquarium provides up-close encounters with various marine creatures such as crabs, crawfish, and starfish. Visitors can even hand-feed mullet in the pools. It's a popular spot for families and kids due to its fun and informative exhibits.
Lovely small aquarium , lots of locally found species, ideal for children as you are able to feed and ‘tickle’ the fish. Also the lady let us hold a starfish. Very engaging for young and old alike.
Julie K — Google review
What a wonderful aquarium in Lyme Regis. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit in May half-term, and although the aquarium is small, you're treated like an old friend from beginning to end. The owner talked us through the history of the aquarium and showed us how to hand-feed the mullet, which was a fantastic experience for all of us! Our children were then able to hold starfish and take a look at all of the local marine life that the aquarium had to offer. We felt the price was extremely reasonable for the intimacy of the aquarium and to keep such a wonderful treasure open to the public. Would definitely recommend and return in the future.
Amy M — Google review
Great time hand feeding the mullet and seeing starfish up close - have visited many times in the last decade and will continue to! While it is small, the joy is in seeing the variety of fish that are locally brought in (and then released as others come) and feeding the mullet. Great to see local wildlife up close. Very knowledgeable team, Max who leads the place is lovely. Recommended to anyone who loves fish and is keen to feed them by hand.
Elizabeth W — Google review
A short but very memorable visit, with the hand feeding of the mullet being a real highlight. At £10 per person over 15 years old, it seemed expensive for a relatively small display. Very knowledgeable and helpful staff
Martin M — Google review
Really enjoyed our visit to Lyme Regis Marine Aquarium. We loved feeding the mullet and enjoyed holding and finding out about starfish. Staff were really friendly and knowledgeable.
Emma F — Google review
A lovely quirky little aquarium where you can hand feed the fish (such a weird sensation!) and a small but interesting selection of local aquatic wildlife.
Nick P — Google review
If I could give 10/5 stars, I would. We visited in August 2025 with our four-year-old and (then) 9-month-old, and it was a favourite part of our summer holiday in Lyme Regis. Our son enjoyed interacting with the fish and starfish, and our daughter was completely mesmerised. We loved that everything was local, it was just the right size for our children to really appreciate and learn from, the people running it had clearly put love and thought into it, and all in all we just felt it was a lovely, special place we were lucky to find!
Ariel L — Google review
We had a brilliant time. We got feed the fish eating out of our hands and even hold a starfish, which was such a fun experience. The staff were super friendly and really knowledgeable about the marine life and the local area. Would definitely recommend stopping by especially if you have kids.

SWIM is a stylish and woodsy cafe located in Lyme Regis, United Kingdom. It offers a picturesque beachside terrace where visitors can enjoy breakfast, brunch, and lunch with stunning views of the Jurassic Coast. The restaurant's huge windows create an outdoor dining experience, making it a favorite spot for casual plates of food while admiring the beautiful scenery.
Was a nice place to eat. Seated us without reservations. Staff were lovely... So good we are there twice! Had the Korean chicken 1st night... Was yum... 2nd night I had the Thai Yellow Fish Curry... Also very good! Utopian lager was good... Highly recommended!

We are regulars and we always love it here. Great seafront location, fantastic menu, good cocktails, friendly staff. Reliably delicious. Would recommend you book in advance but some walk-ins available, you might need to queue in summer months during holidays.

Great food and a great atmosphere. We had a lovely meal for six tonight and the menu was full of fab options. I had some calamari for starters and a burger for mains. The chips were delicious and the portions very generous - I almost wished they offered half sizes! We were sat in one of the back booths but still had an amazing view of the sea, made better by the sliding windows being left open. We could watch the eclipse from the warmth inside! Definitely recommend as there’s something for everyone on the menu and it has a great vibe inside.

When we walked in we got a seat very fast (5ppl) and it looked very busy. Staff are fabulous. The food looked great and let me tell you it was absolutely delicious. This is the type of place I highly recommend for family friends and social gatherings. Even meetings. This place has inside and outside. Space is between tables is great. NOTE: they don't have WiFi The price is a bit dear... however I have no regrets. I'll happily come again and recommend for anyone! Will post a tik tok review later on

Fantastic food paired with a wonderful atmosphere. We enjoyed a delightful meal for six, and the menu was packed with tempting options. I started with calamari and followed it with a burger for mains. The chips were excellent, and the portions were generous — I almost wished half sizes were available! We were seated in a back booth but still had a stunning view of the sea, made even better with the sliding windows open. Watching the eclipse from the comfort of the warm interior was a real treat. Highly recommend this spot — the menu has something for everyone, and the vibe inside is really inviting.

Great gluten free fish and chips. Best beer battered GF I have found. Abit pricey at £20 for beer battered however £9 for normal. Great location on the sea front with beautiful views if able to sit outside. GF nachos were nice too, busy location during nice weather as expected.

Holmbush Car Park

Parking lot
Holmbush Car Park offers a convenient starting point for exploring the area, with easy access to Langmore Gardens and stunning views of the harbor and sea wall. While there is a steep hill to navigate, the beautiful surroundings make it worth the effort. It's ideal for those looking for an affordable option and willing to take a slightly longer walk to nearby areas. The car park provides accessibility and is not overly crowded, making it a great choice for visitors seeking a peaceful experience.
Easy parking easy walk to the front by walking through the lovely very well kept gardens. Please park down in the Cob car park if you have walking difficulties, see so many struggling to walk back to car park. Free after 6pm but read Parking Sign carefully.
JL — Google review
This car park is OK for short stays, this price is OK for about 4 hours. It's in a good location as its only a short walk down to the beach, although walking back up the hill requires some stamina 😂 The bonus here for us is that there are two electric car chargers @ 150 kW Combo CCS and one chadmo Chadmo , there's a few lower powered chargers here too.
Mike B — Google review
Holmbush is a well laid out car park with bays that are wide and long enough for modern cars and SUVs. There is also a section for campervans, which makes it quite versatile. I paid £8 for four hours, which I think is reasonable. To reach the seafront, you can either walk down Pound Street or take the smaller sloped road. The slope has steps leading through a public garden, or if you go a little farther there is step-free access. Going down is easy, but the walk back up can feel quite steep. I noticed a few people found it difficult, so it is worth keeping in mind if mobility is a concern. The only minor issue was that the grassy area beside the car park had quite a lot of litter. There is a bin near the footpath entrance, but a few more around the site might help encourage people to use them properly. Overall, it is a spacious, reasonably priced car park and far more relaxed than some of the alternatives in town.
Mike G — Google review
This place has fresh milk straight from the farm, which had milk shake, which was lovely and their ice creams are same which makes taste better.
Graham E — Google review
Ok folks. Here is the extortionate pricing for this car park in Lyme Regis. Great location but absolutely disgusting prices. £15.80 to park all day. Don't even pay that in St Ives, Cornwall! An absolute rip off! That's greedy councils for ya! 👍🏿
Dean M — Google review
Great carpark if you are sufficiently mobile and well to descend and climb steepish hill to Lyme Regis and back. Whilst this is not the Lyme Regis park and ride car park, that's the other side of Lyme Regis, it is the termination point of Lyme Regis Park and ride bus route and it is possible after paying for your parking in the usual way to then buy a park and ride ticket on the bus for each person who needs one down to the small Tesco. Unfortunately, despite being just a 2 min journey, if that, they charge 3.00 per person for this service each way (you can catch a bus back from the bottom of the hill) even for persons with a non local bus pass. Bus drivers are a bit unhelpful and not particularly pleasant, or at least the one today wasn't. He initially told me that Holmbush was just a termination and turnaround point for the parkrun and ride bus and implied it was not possible to catch it from there down to Lyme Regis, only once pushed on this did he acknowledge that it was of course possible to buy tickets down to Tesco. But then pointed out she couldn't use her bus passa Nd we would each have to pay 3.00 and there is no option to buy a return. We did catch the bus down, and other than the 6.00 price for the 2 of us to experience one of the shortest bus rides ever, it was otherwise a reasonable location to be dropped at to then wander down past some of the shops on the hill down to Lyme Regis without having had to walk all down the hill with my mother and her walking stick. Due to the price, once we had spent our time in Lyme I left my mother down at the small car park at the bottom of the hill whilst I ran up to get the car and drive it down to pick her up, rather than paying a further £6.00 to get the park and ride bus back up. Other than high prices and unhelpful bus driver, it was an ok experience, but would not use it again as it is. And I would not be likely to use the park and ride the other side of Lyme either as it seems a bit ridiculous when visiting front he west to have to drive through Lyme Regis and out the other side to get to the official park and ride, per haps there should be a more joined up solution to allow people to more affordably park and ride from Holmbush and allow senior citizens from any area to use the bus passes. There are of course other services that run up and down the hill but they are not as frequent as the park and ride and I'm not sure if they are any cheaper or not.
Paul C — Google review
Great location but the hill down to the front is very steep. Fine going down but a bit of a climb back up. Good rates in this car park - open 24 hours and plenty of space.
Christine H — Google review
Parked our MPV (Peugeot Traveller) in the longer vehicle section as it's over 4.8m, as per the clear signage, as did several other minivans, came back to a fine, council will accept that the vehicle is over the length designated on their signage but refuse to cancel the fine. Absolute sham of a council car park.

Restaurant
Located in the popular seaside town of Lyme Regis, The Pilot Boat is a historic Grade II listed building that has been beautifully renovated into a trendy destination bar and restaurant. With fabulous sea views and a roof terrace, this establishment also offers three boutique bedrooms for accommodation. The pub serves a variety of quality home-cooked food throughout the day, making it convenient for visitors. Additionally, it provides vegan-friendly options on its menu, catering to different dietary preferences.
We stayed for 3 nights in the deluxe king room with the sea view. We had a very warm welcome on arrival, and the gent kindly carried our suitcases up to our room. I knew the room was going to be nice from looking at pictures, but it absolutely blew us away when we saw the view out the window. The room is decorated so beautifully and had everything we needed and more. The bed is so comfortable! Breakfast was also delicious and staff are very friendly and helpful. I thought there would possibly be noise at night due to the rooms being above the pub and next to the terrace, but there was no noise at all! Due to where the pub is situated, absolutely everything is a matter of minutes walk, we did not drive anywhere during our stay. We will definitely be returning, thank you pilot boat for a faultless stay.

Our second visit while visiting the area. The first being an excellent Xmas dinner. Booked in line but had to ring to confirm as did receive a confirmation of my booking A good menu with a choice of burgers, pizzas, pasta and daily specials. The staff were very good a special mention to Alanna who was excellent. We thought the food was a little slow to arrive with a considerable wait for both starters and mains and when they eventually did arrive my pasta was just better than warm on top and wife's pizza was only just warm, which was a little disappointing. But both were tasty. Despite this the next time we visit the area we would certainly consider eating here again.

We stopped here for a lunch and were very happy with our choice. The service was great, fast and with a smile. The food was delicious (we had a pizza and calamari with Greek potatoes) and it arrived very quickly. The interior is also lovely and just across the road from the museum which was perfect for us.
Zuzana R — Google review
Popped down the Lyme Regis, and thought I'd try here. The place is lovely, it's just across the road from the sea front, the food was nice, but a bit on the pricey side, and there isn't a huge selection on the menu, and not much for vegetarians. The staff were nice and welcoming. They are dog friendly but only in the first part of the building, so at busier times/high season this could prove problematic as there aren't many low tables. I would visit here again even if it's just for a drink.

Fantastic meal yesterday. We were struggling as a party of 13 of us to find somewhere on a busy Sunday. From a chef and catering business owner I have to say that the food was fabulous. Didn’t wait too long, and everyone’s dishes were of great quality. My steak was so well seasoned.
Chazyboy97 — Google review
Had a meal here for a birthday, have been before when it was quiet and was impressed with the food, I must say the food is delicious! Had the catch of the day, sea bass and it was very good, only let down was the service, had to ask for every course and not very attentive, could see all the courses under heat lamps waiting to be served, a shame because the chefs are cooking up some magic behind the curtain, we’ll be back and hopefully everything is bought up to the standard of the lovely food, something currently reflected in the prices but not entirely fulfilled by the dining experience, terrific location and decoration too! 4*
TheDayRogue — Google review
We recently had our wedding meal and evening reception at the Pilot Boat and I cannot recommend highly enough! The food was exceptional (lots of praise from guests!), the service was great and communication with Monique was brilliant, from our first enquiry up to the wedding day. It was the perfect venue for a seaside wedding - we were seated in the restaurant between lunch and dinner service but it didn't feel rushed at all. We hired a marquee from Taddle Farm Tents, which gave us shelter on the roof terrace for the evening. It was a great intimate space for speeches, cake, and dancing (highly recommended a silent disco too!) Kelsey and Josie were fab on the bar in the evening. We ended the night with a very comfortable stay in one of the pub's hotel rooms with a sea view. Thank you so much to the team!

By far the best Fish and Chips in Lyme Regis! A hidden gem that isn’t directly next to the beach but worth it! The food was cooked fresh to order and they worked around allergies without any problem whatsoever! The fish was a great size and tasted lovely and the batter was beautiful! Couldn’t recommend this place enough, I was just gutted I couldn’t try their burgers as well! 10/10!

Good fish and chips, nice light batter. Portions are small and peas are a pricey extra! Would go again.

One of the BEST fish n chips we've had in a very long time. The chips was magically good and crispy. Don't waste your mony elsewhere if you are after some good food.

A small restaurant just off the main circuit of Broad Street and Bridge Street. Though it has an extensive burger menu go for the fish and chips they are premier league. Lightest of batter with proper chips. Everything is cooked to order so none of this fish sitting in the warmer for ages. It was a quiet evening towards end of summer season so couldn't really give more stars for atmosphere but the blokes who run it were lovely. Check the opening times as they change through the season. Highly recommended.

After wandering around Lyme Regis we found this little gem. Probably the most underpriced restaurant I have visited. The food is incredible. The burgers are perfect and not greasy. Everything is fresh. The batter on my fish was the lightest and crispiest I have had. The fish was perfectly cooked, not in the slightest bit oily. The hospitality is excellent. Very quirky and such a pleasure to have found this restaurant. Will be going back soon, although it's a 50mile trip its worth it.
Christopher F — Google review
Unfortunately we went for the reviews and we're really disappointed. It was a quiet stormy night so the place was empty (few people doing take away) but we tried to trust the process and reviews. The whole place really smelt of fryers, which was off putting. People said the fish and chips was some of the best in town... Unfortunately ours wasn't. Raw batter and no real taste. Oil dripping off it too. Chips were nicely cooked. Burger was okay but nothing special. To their credit Staff offered to prep us a new fish meal but we just didn't fancy trying again. My wife hardly touched it.Had some squid rings which were oily and chewy. Still cost 40 quid and I cant remember the last time I was that disappointed with a meal. We should have just trust our gut and walked away. Maybe they were just having an off night. Beer was cheap though which was good.

First of all: Their customer service is amazing! We got to Lyme Regis late, starving, and LBK stayed open longer for us—true heroes. Their fish and chips are great, but I'm all about the burgers! So many choices, and you can tell they're made with care, not just slapped together. The Zeus Burger is my fave, but the Garlic Shroom is delicious too. Sadly, we couldn't try more due to the time we stayed but if you want a seriously good burger, LBK's the place to go.

Firstly, you will find the cheapest alcoholic drink prices in the Lyme Regis, either with your meal or at the bar. Whilst the food is more towards burgers , fish and chips etc, the quality to price ratio is very welcome. Worth finding

Thai restaurant on the beach front at Lyme Regis. It’s a small venue so you might want to book in advance. I had the Thai green curry with jasmine rice side and it was very authentic and good. A friend had the panang curry and I tried that and it was also very good. Shame there is only Singha and no Chang lager 🙂 Friendly staff and good service.

We went there on a wednesday night, and it was packed, we were lucky to get a table as two people were leaving. We had the Pad Thai and one of the coconut curries, both with vegetables, my husband's curry with egg fried rice. We both enjoyed our dishes, the vegetables were really nice, fresh and crispy and both dishes perfectly cooked. It was absolutely delicious. Shame we were just on holiday, we would definitely become regulars otherwise, but when we return to Lyme Regis we'll definitely dine there again.

Absolutely love this place! The food is delicious and the view of the beach makes it even better. I ordered the Pad Med Ma Muang for the second time – it’s just so good! My uncle had the sea bass, which he couldn’t stop raving about (he even ate the bones!), and my aunty had the Thai noodles, which were also amazing. I’ve had the Pad Thai here before and highly recommend it. Honestly, even the cheese toasty was absolutely delicious if you’re in the mood for something simple. A must-visit if you’re in the area! 🌊🍜🐟

A beautiful hotel in a lovely location at the top of Lyme Regis town and overlooking the bay and beautiful gardens. The staff are very friendly, helpful and professional. You will receive a lovely welcome and be looked after at every turn. The rooms are very comfortable, beds excellent, bathrooms well kitted out, everything spotlessly clean and very attractive. The food is extremely good, with plenty of choice and beautifully presented. A wonderful breakfast buffet is also available. I can only recommend this hotel as one of the nicest we stay in.

We returned to the Alexandra Hotel last week having stayed on two previous occasions in the family apartments with our three boys. This time was a trip for two to celebrate our Silver Wedding anniversary. It did not disappoint! What a treat to wake up to a view of Lyme Bay every morning. The room was comfy, stylish and extremely clean. I have high standards! The staff were welcoming, friendly and professional. Nothing was too much trouble. Breakfast was a veritable feast to start the day! We celebrated our anniversary with friends in the Conservatory restaurant. Delicious fresh local ingredients. Highly recommended! We loved sitting in the library with a newspaper and soaking up the sea air in the gardens. Truly the best way to wind down and relax. We cannot wait for our next visit!

We stayed at this hotel for two nights for a close friends 60th party. The hotel is lovely, a lot of character with great sea views, amazing garden and short walk down onto beach. Our room was not the cheapest offered which raises the question, how small are the rest?! Not so much the room which was small but the bathroom which was one in one out can’t shut the door when sat on the loo type of small. We were in Room 1 - went back to room at about 11-11.30pm and all was in darkness. I know there are children staying with family but seriously. No staff for help when our room key was wrong. Called the number and two gents (who knows where they came from) arrived and let us in - no words uttered at all! It appears the very pleasant lady that showed us to the room gave us the wrong key (room 2). This begs the question, were we put in the wrong room for the money, I hope so. I won’t be going back for that price whoever good the location is. Breakfast was fine. When I asked for bottle of Prosecco at the end of the afternoon and was given a (lovely) but much more expensive bottle of English sparking wine from Dorset I feel they had taken advantage of me when the bar had been paid by my friend.

We’ve always wanted to stay at ‘The Alex’ due to its unique location so hopes were high. It’s no exaggeration to say that those high hopes were not only met but exceeded. We had a sea view room which was beautifully decorated and had a view that was hypnotic. The terrace was a beautiful place to relax- the scent of the wisteria was wonderful and we were very inspired by the gardens, especially the water features (blackbird jacuzzi). We thought breakfast was very high quality and the service was run impeccably. Most of all, the staff made it truly special- very friendly and warm. It was a very special stay - thank you.

We had a lovely one night stay at Alexandra Hotel. We'd booked parking so arrival was easy. Despite arriving at 1pm, we were shown to our room, and had an upgrade seaview. The welcome was warm, and the room was beautiful and with great amenities. We only had cocktails but the restaurant looked great. Breakfast was very good. We had wished we were staying more than one night but next time we are in Lyme Regis, we will choose this wonderful, family run hotel.

Gorgeous old hotel, fabulous views over the Sea. The food was always excellent and the bar refreshing! Could do with an old hand showing the younger staff how it works behind the ramp but they were all lovely, really helpful and kind. Will be back! x

We did not stay we had a meal that was good but not amazing. The setting is brilliant with amazing views. Would have loved to be offered a coffee perhaps even a port and cheese but it felt like the restaurant wanted to close and needed us to leave at 9pm.

Love this hotel. Fantastic location, brilliant staff, wonderful food, very comfy bed and great views. It’s our first stay and will definitely return. It’s got a vibe which epitomises Lyme Regis.

Located in a former Congregational church, Dinosaurland Fossil Museum houses a palaeontologist's collection of over 9000 specimens. The museum features a Natural History Room and Time Gallery, along with an extensive fossil collection on the ground floor. It is a must-see for visitors interested in fossils found at Lyme Regis. The museum offers an intriguing insight into the prehistoric world and is popular among paleontology enthusiasts of all ages.
I visited on Sunday and Dinosaurland almost immediately became my favourite museum. Steve (the owner and curator) gave us entry and he was so welcoming. Bursting with geological treasures and real fossils, it was a treat to visit exhibits not aimed primarily at children. Don't get me wrong, there were plenty of kids enjoying themselves, but as a group of scientifically minded adults who enjoy natural history there was so much for us to learn and enjoy. Especially the map room, I loved the map room! 🧭🗺️🌏

A Museum with its fossilised heart in the right place. My party went with an hour until closing time, and we were the only ones there the entire time. Great for kids and families. It's a bit rough around the edges, namely it could do with a good clean. Lovely guy on reception.

This museum is an absolute gem for anyone interested in fossils. It’s packed with countless fossils, beautifully displayed with informative modules and pictures. I loved how full each display was. There’s also a section with stuffed animals, moths, and skeletons that adds even more variety to the experience. Great for kids and adults alike. Definitely worth a visit if you're into the historical animals.
Fae C — Google review
Today we spent a good hour checking out the fossil museum and we were not disappointed!!! We were greeted by a friendly member of staff who explained to my son all about different ammonites. So much to see and learn. Being dog friendly was a big bonus. Great for the young ones to learn about dinosaurs and fossil hunting. Well worth checking out.

A Fossil Lover’s Paradise! Dinosaurland is a delightfully quirky gem that punches well above its weight. Nestled in a charming corner of Lyme Regis, it’s packed to the rafters with fossils—local treasures from the Jurassic Coast and fascinating specimens from around the globe. Whether you're a seasoned palaeontology buff or just curious, there’s something here to spark your imagination. The displays are thoughtfully curated, with in-depth information that brings each artifact to life. You’re not just looking at rocks—you’re glimpsing ancient worlds. The museum’s independent spirit shines through in every nook, making it feel personal and passionate rather than polished and corporate. A must-visit if you’re in the area. Quirky, educational, and utterly captivating.
Paul S — Google review
Lovely museum absolutely packed with specimens and fascinating accompanying information plates. The passion and humour of the owner really shows and I loved that he displays the results of his scientific research done on the specimens. Great value for the family ticket.
Kerry S — Google review
visited today for the 4th or 5th time and now as an adult, it was even more interesting and amazing to me now even though i’ve visited before. anyone who leaves a bad review is a miserable piece of work who couldn’t be impressed by anything as there is SO MUCH to see and for such a good price as well. if you get around this museum in under an hour then you’re clearly not reading or looking at everything properly as there is an unbelievable amount of things to see. genuinely so impressive
Leah — Google review
This is a real gem , fantastic displays in a historic building and a visual extravaganza. Thoroughly recommend to anyone of all ages to visit as it is a truly inspirational and inspiring place to visit.

Restaurant
Nestled in the heart of Lyme Regis, Millside is a charming waterside restaurant offering a modern British menu with a focus on fish dishes. The restaurant provides a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere, making it an ideal spot to savor seasonal British cuisine crafted from local and sustainable produce. Whether you're craving classic fish and chips or more adventurous options like squid ink risotto, Millside has something for everyone.
Great evening for my partners birthday. The restaurant is tucked away behind a micro brewery courtyard in a quiet location. We passed a few tables that are available on the terrace as we were seated inside the dining room. This was decorated in a modern style, white walls and prints. Nice ambient music playing to create a calm mood. Service attentive, friendly and informative. Good wine selection for all tastes and budgets. Opened by sharing Lyme Bay Crab Croquettes, beautifully crunchy and tasty, We shared Fruits de Mar platter which had a good mix of hot and cold fish. It was imaginatively put together with a variety of textures and flavours. No room left for dessert! Thanks for a great evening Millside.

Absolutely worth for a several hours drive! Came from Oxford for the lobster and it was amazing! Delicious food and deserts, and a wine cart where you can match drink perfectly to your meal. Separate huge thank you to the staff! Amazing service! Will definitely be coming back 💙

Ate at Eat at Millside last evening. An excellent meal.. i had mussels followed by Dover Sole, while Jane had scallops then lamb.. and a shared cherry frangipane to finish off. Excellent service in a nice atmosophere and very friendly new owners Tony and Emily(?). A good thing we booked as many walk-ins couldn't get a table. Not the cheapest but great value and will certainly return

Absolutely loved our experience at Millside! The food was exceptional—every dish bursting with flavor and beautifully presented. The staff were incredibly friendly and attentive without being overbearing, making us feel genuinely welcome. Combined with the warm, inviting atmosphere, it made for a thoroughly enjoyable evening. Highly recommend and can’t wait to return!

A 10/10 experience Lovely food, amazing service and a lovely atmosphere All the staff were superb and attentive, our food was so fresh and tasted amazing Great value for the quality of it all Tucked away in Lyme Regis it is on my go back to restaurant list. Make sure you book a table as it’s so popular we saw dozens of people being told they were fully booked and no wonder 1 recommendation would be to remove the 20 odd shrimp and just have 4-6 king prawns, the faff of peeling them just isn’t worth it Thank you for a wonderful experience

We had a truly lovely meal here! We were after some decent muscles which we found at the Millside. I had the special lobster starter and the monkfish curry. My partner had a steak. And we shared a cracking bottle of wine. Everuthong was delicious. 10/10

My boyfriend and I were holidaying in Lyme over the weekend, both from Birmingham, we have plenty of restaurants in the city… yet Millside is the best meal we have had so far in 2024! Such a beautiful setting and a intimate dining experience. Although a small menu for mains, the starters are varied. I tried the escargot which our waiter recommended - who knew snails tasted so good! My boyfriend had the half lobster and I tried rump steak, also for the first time. Both dishes were presented beautifully and provided explosions of flavour with each bite, I’ll be dreaming of this meal for weeks! Thank you for such a wonderful meal and such attentive service.

Water mill
Historic Sites
The Town Mill, located in Lyme Regis, Dorset, is a historic landmark dating back to the 1340s. This restored watermill offers a glimpse into the town's past with its working flour mill and bakery, electricity generator, art galleries, pottery studio, gift shop, and tea room serving traditional cream teas. Additionally, visitors can explore the on-site microbrewery and enjoy a selection of craft beers and local artisan ciders.
What a fantastic place. We were lucky enough to have visited when the mill was working. The miller was great and gave us a tour of the mill and was so knowledgeable. All the volunteers were so friendly and passionate about the mill.
Me M — Google review
Such a lovely place!! We pop by every time we are in Lyme. This year, we had extended family with us. While we were busy nosing around, Steve offered a tour and the kids loved it! Totally hands on, super educational. No queues, free entry, fresh flour to purchase, love folks running the place, I hope this charming place remains open for the younger generations to enjoy.
Cat — Google review
I don't know if this applies to the Mill or the space around it - my review is of the general space, which is pedestrianised and rather lovely. The microbrewery serves a great range of beers, and has a barman with his own cockatoo for added amusement (be sure to ask before touching it). The Strawberry Tree offers amazing tapas, we had a wonderful evening meal with 11 people there and it was excellent (I have reviewed it seperately). There are also studios there offering pottery classes, sewing classes, pilates, and even cookery classes. The courtyard is lit by festive lights, and has a range of outdoor seating available. There are also some toilets available next to the tapas restaurant.
Ashley S — Google review
The awesome power of water is on show here, you can buy their flour and bake stuff! Then go for a pint at the micro brewery, lovely brews there!
Martin P — Google review
The mill was open when we popped into Lyme Regis! I enjoyed looking around and the chap was very knowledgeable. Free to visit but I bought a bag of flour as a thank you. Great to know I'll be baking with no added items!
Julie I — Google review
Lovely old working mill. Really good access to see the workings of the mill and the friendly volunteers give an informative insight into the old days and ways of producing flour. Well worth a visit. Note: No dogs allowed as it produces flour and has to adhere to the rules and regulations regarding food production.

Brilliant if you like local history. All the volunteers were excellent 👌🏻

Very interesting talk and demo from volunteer Rob. Entry with donations only and a lovely shop where you can buy flour milled on site.

Lyme Regis Brewery, established in 2010, is located at the Town Mill and offers a Tap Room where visitors can sample a variety of craft beers, wines, and local artisan ciders. The brewery has gained popularity for its selection of fine craft beers. The friendly staff and inviting atmosphere make it a great place to relax and enjoy some drinks. Situated in a central spot with nearby dining options, this dog-friendly bar provides a welcoming environment for both locals and tourists alike.
Coming from Bristol, didn't think this place could possibly live up to the reviews and compare with the range of beer we have in the city. But god, what a cool place, and great beer! An outstanding range is available and lovely little nooks to hide away in upstairs.

We always enjoy visiting the brewery when we are in Lyme. We love the different brews that are on offer. All the staff are friendly and welcoming. The courtyard is a lovely place to enjoy a pint or two. The gin is delicious too. 🙂

A fantastic Craft Brewery located in the historic Mill close to the town centre. Offers a wide choice of beer and cider. All taste great. My favourite was Poker’s Pool, an amazing Hazy Pale. Staff are very friendly & helpful. Was the first Craft Brewery I’d been offered a taste before purchase. Highly recommend.

Fantastic selection of drinks, lovely space inside and plenty of room outside. We have returned many times in our trip here!

A great little bar! We've been coming here for about 10 yrs maybe and it always has a nice friendly atmosphere, great beers, larger and cider. there are also soft drinks and crisps but no food. Usually you'll find a seat somewhere and other drinkers are happy to share their tables. It's in a nice central spot with a car park and dinning options close by. It's dog friendly, children are also allowed if not going bonkers all over the place. It's wheelchair accessible to the outside seating area but unfortunately it wouldn't be possible inside I think but the bar is so close to the door that making a drink choice could be made from outside easily. The staff are friendly and the prices are about average for nowadays. All in all its well worth stopping in and enjoying a nice drink and a little break form the beach 👍

Not sure why I have not reviewed this place before, but I suspect it's because,in no way could I be described as a beer expert, having said that I do know what I like, which is important to me. Lyme Regis is a beautiful seaside resort which we love and visit whenever we can and some stage we will spend some time in your fantastic brewery, we love the friendly nature of the staff and we always spend more time in your lovely surroundings than we were planning on,but that's a great thing for us,we are there to relax and enjoy. Keep doing what you are good at people will return.👍👍

Cooking class
The Strawberry Tree is a tapas restaurant and cooking school located in Lyme Regis. The concept was born from the owners' love and extensive experience with Spanish food, drink, and culture. They aim to create unique experiences that bring people together over authentic, delicious tapas inspired by Spain and North Africa. The kitchen serves a variety of dishes such as paella, pan-fried chorizo, crispy squid with aioli, and lemon and pistachio frangipane tarts.
Great service, great Tapas and very comfortable. Seats in and out. Dog friendly. Bathroom very clean too.
Karla R — Google review
We had a wonderful evening last night at the Strawberry Tree - 11 of us, celebrating a 50th wedding anniversary. We had pre-ordered a few dishes, and ordered plenty more. All were delicious - the goats cheese and aubergine were particularly amazing (I was a little disappointed the black pudding wasn't crispy, but that wasn't mentioned on the menu, simply my preference). We also tried a range of cocktails and other drinks, again they were universally excellent. To cap off the evening, in celebration of the Golden couple, the staff brought us each a shot of a sweet, fortified wine (similar to sherry), which was warmly received. The staff were attentive, atmosphere was good. The only slight problem was that one of the goats cheese dishes didn't get served to the two vegetarians in the group.
Ashley S — Google review
Had a fabulous evening here on a recommendation and it did not disappoint. The warmth and welcome of the place was fantastic and despite not having booked, we were made very welcome (a party of 19 was about to turn up at any minute as well) The staff were engaging, knowledgeable and polite. Owners Ed and Giselle were charming and our waitress, Emma from Manchester was great fun.) The food – small Tapas plates, was amazing. The Pig Cheeks with Prunes and Sherry, Chicken Skewers with Micro Herbs and Yoghurt, Cod Cheeks in Tomato Sauce and the Canaries Style potatoes with Mojo-Rojo Sauce – were delicious. The Burnt Cheesecake with Cinnamon Apples to finish was divine – you must try to pay them a visit.

Wonderful food- all fresh and super tasty. Need to book in advance as a popular place. Would highly recommend.
Gaye B — Google review
A great place tucked away in a courtyard next to the Mill House. Fantastic service and really good coffee at sensible prices. Some tasty looking cakes on the counter also! Seats both inside and outside. If we ever return to Lyme Regis we'll be sure to eat here as it was so welcoming and unpretentious.
S.L.A. — Google review
So good. Our first visit but not our last. Good choice of tapas and reasonably priced, we particularly liked the crispy aubergines and chorizo dishes but everything we had was lovely. Nice interior with friendly and attentive staff. If we had been staying longer I would have signed up for one of the cookery courses. Very happy to recommend.
Elaine J — Google review
Well prepared dishes. I would say slightly less aubergine and more sardines would be better - you can't easily share a juvenile sardine (though maybe you could stuff one if the giant olives with it). Oh and take the skin off the black pudding rather than leaving it to the punters. Service very attentive trying to upsell was understandable. I mistook garlic slices for interesting almonds- my bad!

Attended a Tapas Cookery class. Ed & Giselle were wonderful hosts, it was a very relaxed, fun and (most importantly) delicious day. Have recommended the experience to several people as gifts. Perfect way to spend a Sunday.

Fish and chips takeaway
If you're wandering through the charming coastal town of Lyme Regis and find yourself craving a classic British meal, look no further than Lyme's Fish Bar. This family-run gem has been delighting both locals and visitors for over 25 years with its scrumptious fish and chips. Located just a short stroll from the beach, it’s the perfect spot to grab some takeaway and enjoy your meal by the sea.
Considering it being very busy, the Lymes fish bar served up these delicious fish and chips. Haddock had the perfect amount of batter on - very much worth the wait. Yes you may have to wait a little longer than you'd like but for the quality of fish it is worth it 💯
H M — Google review
Good enough for its location, service a bit dry. Haddock was good for a Tuesday just too oily. Don't bother with the chicken nuggets for kids, not edible. Personally I dont like chips when they re too over cooked and golden brown, but hubby liked them.
Julia L — Google review
Terrible fish and chips, probably the worst I've ever had. There is no excuse for serving up such poor quality fish and chips. They served up a greasy, small portion that was expensive, £12.80 for what you see in the picture. The chips from the shop by the sandy beach are far superior, I would highly recommend giving this place a miss and heading to the beach to get your chips. The photo shows the portion size before anything had been eaten, note the amount of grease on the paper, the dark brown overcooked batter, and the wooden fork to give a sense of scale.
Ian P — Google review
A quintessential fish 'n chip shop in Lyme Regis. Parking is non-existent, so you must walk to the shop. Large choice of fish on the menu and plenty of other options if fish is not your thing. Very busy at peak times. Saturday night was packed with loads of people waiting for their orders to be cooked. Ordered four dinners to take back to the hotel. About a 20-30 minute wait. No issues, as the Ship Inn is directly across the street. Slipped in for a couple pints while waiting. Order was done and kept warmed until pickup. Fish was done perfectly with very crispy and light batter, complementing the fish. The chips portion was huge, always excellent with vinegar.
Dave E — Google review
It was fine. We were hoping for great seaside fish and chips but the chips weren’t cooked (still a bit hard inside) and the cod was a bit greasy and everything was super salty. Portions felt good, not too overwhelming. The kids nuggets were alright. For the price, it needs to be better.
Louise G — Google review
The worst chippy in town (I've eaten at them all). Overcooked, greasy and chewy chips. Fish was also massively overdone. All other bits of the meal were disappointing - no redeeming elements.
Fly B — Google review
Fish was cooked to order. Took about 10 minutes. Was piping hot with crispy batter. Very nice and flaky. Chips were a tiny bit firm for my taste but a sensible portion size (unlike the huge mass you are often served at a chippy). Very happy with our meals.
Richard A — Google review
Visited Lyme Fish Bar recently and ordered 5 cod and chips along with a few extras like peas and curry. The food itself was decent, but the experience was let down by how the place was run during a busy period. There were only three staff members trying to manage what clearly needed more hands. The cook was absolutely overworked, trying to keep up with all the orders. One young lady in the back stood out — she was cleaning, answering customers’ questions, checking on orders, and making sure everything was served correctly. Very professional and clearly knew what she was doing. Unfortunately, the same can’t be said about the lady on the till. She was quiet, slow, and clearly struggled to manage. She wasn’t able to answer simple questions about the menu and got confused with the orders. At one point she even made a mistake that needed a refund, but she didn’t know how to process it. Luckily, the same young woman from the back stepped in, calmly sorted it out, and guided her through what needed to be done. Honestly, it would’ve made a big difference if someone as capable and efficient as that young woman was at the front counter instead. She handled everything with patience and professionalism, while the person actually serving customers seemed completely lost. Overall, great effort from the cook and that standout team member — but management really needs to consider proper staffing and training, especially during busy hours.
