Cergy-Pontoise in 1 day

If you only have 1 day to spend in Cergy-Pontoise, we’ve narrowed down the top places you should check out to get the best experience of your time here.
Cergy-Pontoise offers a distinctive blend of modern urban planning and scenic riverfront landscapes along the Oise. Visitors can explore the Axe Majeur, a monumental open-air artwork and promenade with striking views over the city and surrounding countryside, and relax by the recreational lakes of the Cergy leisure park. The historic center of Pontoise features cobbled streets, a hilltop church, and a museum dedicated to painter Camille Pissarro, who often depicted the area. Its location northwest of Paris and convenient RER and rail connections make it an easy day trip or short break from the capital.
With favorites like Axe majeur, Hilo Bowls (Cergy), and La Taverne des Rois, we’ll make sure you don’t miss out on all the must sees. We even included some of our favorite food spots around the area, like Hilo Bowls (Cergy) and La Taverne des Rois so you can get the best taste of Cergy-Pontoise while you’re here. To see our full list of food recommendations, check out our best restaurants post. If you're traveling on a budget, you can check out our cheap eats post.

Theme Parks
Ile de Loisirs de Cergy-Pontoise is a seasonal lakefront park located in the heart of the Oise loop. With 250 hectares of land, including 150 hectares of water, it offers a wide range of activities such as water sports, carnival rides, and a sandy beach for swimming and picnicking with friends. The well-maintained picnic areas are equipped with ample tables and benches, providing visitors with a comfortable setting to enjoy outdoor barbecues.
One of the best parks I've been to, it's extremely vast and enormous, full of different and fun activities, to the point that you need 2 to 3 days to try them all. Didn't like the parking fee, though, but it's worth it if you want to set up an epic picnic and barbecue. Oh yeah, and speaking of barbecues, this place has one of the most well equipped barbecue places and campfires and ashtrays. It's like it's inviting you for a once in a lifetime barbecue experience! Love it, would visit again several times!
Big H — Google review
Really great place to visit with activities for all ages. There is a small amusement park next to the main entrance with rides for children as young as 1 along with bouncy castles. Further in you have pedalos, high ropes course, a beach which is open during the summer months, and so many other activities - the place is huge. In high season the parking is 7€. There are also spaces for picnics and designated barbecue areas. Yes it can be busy in the summer and at weekends but it is still enjoyable. We go often and love it!

The place was supper beautiful ! Clean and not over crowded . I loved the rafting experience i would have appreciated that the Life guard explained more about the méthode because it was our first Time but overall it was good

“Île de loisirs de Cergy-Pontoise offers a fantastic variety of activities across its 250 hectares—from water sports like kayaking, rafting, and wakeboarding, to adventure zones like accrobranche and mini-golf—there’s something for everyone. The free access to the green spaces and the scenic walks (especially the 5 km loop and the link to Axe Majeur) are perfect for family outings or casual strolls
Mk H — Google review
It’s a great experience for the family and friends who loves adventure. And it’s just near Paris.
Bella M — Google review
Sandy beaches on the lake. Water clean and not deep, lifeguards keeping watch. Seperate fenced area for young children. Good value, especially if you're staying all day.
Insanity B — Google review
The beach is not for everyone...crowded of people and families. You feel the water not clean because it is plenty of kids and they make pee in the water. I saw kids doing pee. The rest of activities around looks nice and interesting to do it. Be ready for the queue to go into the parking 6€ the full day and longer queues in the afternoon. Free parking for the motos and no queue, you can overtake easily.

The Axe majeur is a stunning 3km-long straight pathway that stretches from Cergy village to an island, offering breathtaking views of Paris city. With its monuments and picturesque surroundings, this location is truly a sight to behold. It provides the perfect opportunity for exercise and enjoying the beauty of nature. Notably, there is a large swan nesting beneath the bridge; however, it's advisable to admire her from a safe distance.
The view from the top of this place is breathtaking! I love going there and admiring the landscape! You can see Paris and some famous landmarks, like the tour Eiffel and the Grande Arche de la Défense!

Hilo Bowls in Cergy is a fast-food spot that offers healthy and satisfying options. The menu includes items like curry falafel and poke bowls with a unique 'Teriyaki style' twist. Customers have praised the delicious vegan food and the option to customize their own poke bowls. The staff is friendly, and the ambiance of the restaurant is contemporary and inviting. While some found it a bit pricey, many agree that the taste of the food makes it worth it.
Delicious VEGAN food! Amazing make-your-own poké bowls!! Lovely staff! Would recommend

Recently ordered take out Curry Falafel, didn't expect it to be a bit spicy. But it was tasty nonetheless, the service was quick and the staff are friendly ! Recommend 👍

Was automatically thrown off by the guacamole instead of regular avocado, should have resisted from there. I've eaten a lot of sketchy sushi over the years, and it can be very hard to tell what is fresh these days, that's why confidence that the place is doing it right is so important. A freshly sliced avocado and mango that wasn't from a can would be a start to building that confidence. Tuna might have been bad (discoloration - maybe normal but maybe not, probably a bit more fishy that normal), but I ate it. Obviously Hawaiian food doesn't do too great outside the US (especially around here), like basically all US food... need to stop dreaming.

Restaurant
La Taverne des Rois is a relaxed brasserie located on the banks of the Oise with charming views of the Cergy port. The setting is regal, and the terrace offers a perfect spot to enjoy French standards made with fresh, carefully selected ingredients. Whether you choose to dine inside or outside, you'll be treated to fantastic views of the port while savoring deliciously presented dishes.
A perfect place to enjoy dinner on a sunny day. There are plenty of tables both inside and outside offering a fantastic view of the port. The food is tasty and beautifully presented, and the service is quick. I enjoyed a delicious salmon served with rice and caramelised sesame. For a starter, the avocado and raspberry tartare is definitely worth trying. Among the desserts, the tart tatin was tasty but perhaps served a bit too hot and the crème brûlée had a slightly gelatinous texture, I prefer creamer ones, but it was still acceptable. Despite these minor points, I thoroughly enjoyed my time spent there.
Arkadiusz J — Google review
Great view of the port. The outside seating is nice. Food was a little overpriced for the quality. Service I might be unfair as an American and maybe just didn’t understand the culture but I was with a coworker who lives in cergy and also said it was a bit off. Overall if you’re in the area for work and want to eat outside this place is cute
Emily V — Google review
Beautiful location. Tres sympa. Traditional and typical French cuisine. The staff were super frinedly , even to us Rosbifs :)
Holbeck G — Google review
Everything we ordered was delicious - salad, shrimps, steak.. Very busy on the weekend, reserve if u want a spot at the terrase, overlooking the port and Oise river. Personnel could use a hand and a more welcoming attitude.
Sporadic K — Google review
Horrible service. They throw the cutlery on the table, very pushy in ordering. They give you bread but with taking away the main course they also just take away the bread without asking. The pizzas were good, but my waffle burger was very underwhelming, fries were average at best. The desserts were very sub par. A dame blance with barely any chocolat sauce, it was more like a bigger version of an simpel children's ice bowl. My banana split was very basic. Horrible experience on a Tuesday evening, felt like they were just rushing us out the door, like they needed the table while there were enough empty tables Shortest dinner ever.
Lars B — Google review
Great outdoor seating in a sunny day. It’s quite a cosy atmosphere indoor as well. Can fits big group of people (we were more than 40 and it felt quite ok !) the food was ok. I would have expected more. Didn’t like the salmon I had. My colleagues medium rare was completely done. He couldn’t stomach it at all. No English menu!

The service was horrible. Took the server almost an hour to come to us, only to rudely tell us the place was fully booked even there were signs saying so.

Fine dining restaurant
L'Or Q'Idée is a culinary gem nestled in Pontoise, led by the talented chef Naoelle d'Hainaut, who gained fame after winning Top Chef in 2013. This restaurant beautifully marries tradition with innovation, showcasing the rich flavors of local produce from the Val d'Oise region. Each dish is meticulously crafted to be visually stunning and perfectly balanced, as evidenced by their exquisite carte blanche menu.
every so often we try a Michelin star restaurant otherwise we normally at a bib gourmand level. we had a nice time and the service is excellent as well as the environment. however it seems that only the tasting menu was/is available, i think that they should tell you that when you make or confirm the reservation. additonally there was some confusion (and my french wife doesnt feel like its well explained) that there can be some substitutions made on the tasting menu. The lack of explanation made for some awkwardness. the dish that wowed and impressed was the maigre fish and the cheese

One of the very best meals I have ever had. The menu degustation is a feast of taste and texture The dishes a concotion of very interesting and may I say, daring creations. The team is super friendly and accommodating. The restaurant is very pleasant and unpretentious in a beautiful, old village with century old dwellings. A true destination.
JW S — Google review
Deserves more than 1 Michelin Star: An excellent choice outside of Paris. The young chef won a competition when she was even younger. Our table of six ordered the chef’s menu and it was outstanding. Of the hundreds of restaurants, I have enjoyed – only 2 other restaurants rank with this one: Launceston in London, and Lilac in Tampa. The presentation was artistic and the progression of flavors was “inspired.” Thanks to friends in Bouffemont we were taken to the restaurant. When I get back to Paris, I will make the trip to this restaurant.
