The Fortress of Civitella del Tronto, located in Teramo, Italy, is a remarkable example of medieval military architecture. Built between 1564 and 1576, it stands as one of the largest fortresses in Europe with a surface area of 25,000 square kilometers. Originally constructed by the Aragonese and later expanded by the Spanish Habsburgs and Bourbons, this fortress played a significant role in Italian history.
Marvel of military engineering of 16th century, probably for while Europe, on the border of spanish Kingdom of Naples and Papal lands. They made a 500m long fortress. With huge water tank and parade grounds. Size doesnt matter....at least to Napoleon 😀. Bellow the fortress is a lovely old town and from the walls you get a beautiful views of surroundings.

It was an interesting sight, few tourists in the middle of the day. I would also recommend visiting the small town located at the foot of the fortress.
Edgars B — Google review
Beautiful old city with narrow streets. Some constructionwork, after earthquake i guess. A castle on top of city where you can visit. Spectacular view from city over the surrounding areas.
Grethe B — Google review
It's beautiful and spiritual, magical with all the Christmas and New Year lightings. The Christmas Nativity displays all over the town were very inspiring.
Vincent A — Google review
It's a very nice place to visit with amazing views (mountains till the sea). The city is free and you can go to the "narrowest street in Italy" but look at the map or ask someone to don't miss it! In my opinion don't worth to pay extra to see the museum (Jan/2023). The shops were closed when I got there, so my advice is to take your own snacks with you.
Giulio C — Google review
If you're interested in history of fortresses it's a must see. If not, going there is a waste of time in my opinion. The way to the hill is not in a very good condition. But you can take there nice photos. 😊

At the moment most of place under renovation. But anyway it a place you have to visit. Amazing view, interesting expozition, nice muzeum.

The Civitella del Tronto Fortress is a truly amazing experience, especially for those who would not expect such magnificence in the heart of Abruzzo. It is incredible how it manages to leave such a strong impression, even on those who have already admired other important fortresses such as that of Duino. You have perfectly captured the essence of this place: its vastness and complexity make it unique. It is not just about walls and bastions, but centuries of history that you can almost touch with your hand. Its strategic position and the grandeur of its structures make it immediately clear why it is considered one of the most significant fortresses in Europe. Walking on the patrol walkways and admiring the surrounding views is an experience that transports you back in time, making you reflect on the ingenuity and perseverance of those who built and defended it. It is just as you say, a real journey through time. And it is essential, when visiting places so full of history and meaning, to approach it with due respect. The Civitella del Tronto Fortress has been the scene of countless battles and has hosted generations of soldiers and defenders. Feeling the weight of history and honoring the memory of those who fought and lived within those walls makes the visit even more profound and meaningful. It is a place that deserves to be visited not only for its architectural beauty, but also for its historical soul.

La Ruetta, a renowned tourist attraction in Italy, is famous for being the narrowest alley in the country. However, it is important to note that this distinction only applies to its final section where visitors are compelled to pass sideways. Despite this unique feature, La Ruetta remains an enjoyable place to visit. The village of Civitella del Tronto, where La Ruetta is located, exudes charm and beauty.
The most narrow street in Italy 😲
Jamal A — Google review
(Translated by Google) When you go to visit Civitella del Tronto, as well as passing through the suggestive streets of the historic center and visiting the fortress, there is also this which is considered the narrowest in Italy. You proceed through a human-sized staircase, and only in the last part laterally, until you emerge close to the square. It's worth doing, even just for a bit of fun!

(Translated by Google) Intriguing to move between its walls. The tourist sign indicates it as the narrowest alley in Italy but in the Middle Ages, tiny alleys were built in various places. This primacy is disputed because it is about 66 centimeters wide, only the first few dozen centimeters are a narrowness of about 44 centimeters. Chance led me to pass a few days later in another of these alleys and I can only guarantee the short initial stretch is narrower. G Maps currently allows videos of a maximum of 30 seconds but if they are just a few seconds shorter they sometimes jam. By quickly climbing the stairs I managed to condense it into 27 seconds, including the initial and final panorama and the out of breath since I had already gone up to visit the castle.

(Translated by Google) Indicated as the narrowest street in Italy, but in reality it is only because of the initial narrow street, it then widens, even if not by much. Nice find and now well signposted, if you are nearby it's worth taking a tour, also seeing the village and the castle... a place not suitable for prams and the like. Due to the presence of stairs..

(Translated by Google) It's very narrow at the beginning, then widens slightly shortly after the entrance. It's located in the historic center on the street parallel to the main street, but it's easy to spot given Civitella's size. A stop for a few photos is a must if you're in Civitella del Tronto. (Translated by Google) The Narrowest Street in the World In the heart of the Italian region of Abruzzo, near the entrance to the Civitella del Tronto fortress, lies the narrowest street in Italy, and indeed in the world: the "Roeta," measuring no more than 40 cm wide. This narrow street is not just a tourist attraction; it is a testament to the genius of medieval design. Narrow streets were deliberately built to limit the ability of enemies to storm fortified cities. And on this street, surprises were possible! This narrow passageway appears to have been an ideal location for ambushes and surprise attacks from behind the walls. Today, the "Roeta" is part of Civitella's heritage and attracts visitors who want to experience a piece of the city's unique history. A visit to this street gives you the opportunity to stand in a narrow space, where feet once moved along narrow paths while cities were under threat from enemies. It is a small place that holds a great story of resilience and strategic intelligence.

Churches & Cathedrals
The Chiesa di San Francesco, a Catholic church constructed in the Romanesque style during the 14th century, is located near an ancient convent that now serves as the Townhall. Adorned with a beautifully embellished rose window on its facade and featuring an interior wooden choir, this church has undergone several restoration efforts to rectify damage caused by multiple earthquakes. Recent conservative restoration works have successfully restored its former beauty, enabling visitors to fully appreciate its magnificence.
(Translated by Google) The clock located above the entrance to the church appears to have been stolen during the night from a church in Campli in medieval times. Inside, the vault was redone, with the loss of all the frescoes: I remember that the light blue color of the robes of the angels and the characters depicted went well with the decidedly white backgrounds. Reviews say this is a great place to eat. Unfortunately, I'm not able to give a review of the food. We arrived, received our menus, and then waited for what felt like ages to order. The waiters served other tables, even the one right next to us. I even waved to make sure they knew we had chosen from the menu, but a waiter just nodded and went to other tables again. After waiting even longer, we left. It's a pity, as it seems like a very pleasant place. So, this review is about the service, not the food. Maybe it was because we were the only non-Italians there, I don't know. 🤷

We stopped here for lunch after a tour of the fortresss, two adults and three kids well fed and happy. The house starter is very good with fantastic ‘lonza’, the pasta was also very good and washed down with good artisanal beer. Price very reasonable.

Beautiful location and excellent service. The "Le Ceppe della Masseria" are the typical kind of pasta. Cooked with "Guanciale, Salsiccia and Tartufo sauce" they are superlative. The "arrosticini" are also wonderful. Small pieces of soft meat cooked on skewers. Highly recommended!

In a touristy village, this place is great. First off, staff is fantastic. Very welcoming and friendly. Food was great. All courses are regional and tasty. Prices were very reasonable. If you are looking for a good place to eat, this is it

Guests can indulge in exquisite local cuisine at the hotel's cozy restaurant, where Chef Sabatino Lattazi masterfully blends ancient recipes with modern creativity.
Amazing historic spot with dishes that are to die for. The staff offered us a welcome glass of champagne and appetizer on the house and then we had two courses and had to try a dessert given how delicious everything else was, the dessert was definitely the show stopper. The gorgeous view was the cherry on top for a perfect dining experience.

Visited today ...we opted for a two-course lunch, service was outstanding from the moment we were greeted at the bar. We were a little early but that didn’t faze the staff at all and they were happy to show us to our seats. I had a glass of Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Cerasuolo Cataldi Madonna paired with my dishes. The lunch was great quality and the service was really 1st class we could not have had a better experience elsewhere. Thank you for a lovely lunchtime treat. Would definitely recommend it...Zunica is a gem.

We had the 3 course menu here. Nothing special, an ordinary red pasta and very little chicken. We need a microscope to see the vegetables. Came hungry and left hungry... The ambiance and service is good.

Waterfalls
Salinello Gorges, located just a 15-minute drive from Campli, is a beautiful natural attraction that offers a pleasant hiking experience. The gorges feature a waterfall, which may only be present after rainfall. Visitors can easily park at the end of the road and enjoy a picnic at one of the available tables. It's advisable to visit when the weather is not too hot, as the terrain can be demanding.
Really nice walk, easy to do with kids
Patheesen — Google review
Like many others have stated, if you go in the summer there will be no water and therefore no water falls. Wear sturdy shoes as the paths are steep and rocky. Caves are nice and cool, although not too big. There were advertised prices for entrance but no charge on the day. (Honestly wouldn't be worth paying to see). Food trucks by the car park were actually decent with good food and cold drinks.
Ian G — Google review
Really beautiful spot. But you need proper walking gear to Really enjoy it.
Jeff D — Google review
It's a nice place to visit. However when we visite the gorge was completely dry. There can be a waterfall when it has rained some. Parking is easy at the end of the road. You can also have a nice picknick on one of the tables there. I would recommend visiting when it's not too hot outside as the walking can be very demanding. You are able to visit the waterfall and go down tothe vase when it's dry. It is a hazardous descent, so wearing some decent footwear.
Dennis L — Google review
Good hike along a riverbed canyon. Today it was dry but still a nice walk and beautiful scenery.
Renee P — Google review
Wonderful place. You can just go down and see the gorges, or have fun crossing them and doing the entire path: takes 3-4 hours and it’s very pleasant. A must go if you are in the region.
Daniele V — Google review
Lovely park with plenty of things to see and do. Seasons will have an effect on the park; expect waterfalls during winter/spring.

Nestled at the pinnacle of Monsampolo del Tronto, Palazzo Guiderocchi stands as a testament to history, once serving as the residence for the town's regent. Visitors can easily access this remarkable site by car. The palace features intriguing galleries that were originally designed as escape routes, adding an air of mystery to its charm. While some entrances have been sealed off due to their connection with private properties, exploring those that remain open is a must.

The galleries under the palace which were an escape route are very suggestive. Some entrances have been walled up because they end up in private buildings. Also worth seeing are the mummies underneath the parish church. I recommend checking the opening hours as they are not always open! With stunning views and a serene atmosphere, this charming eatery offers delightful dishes like flavorful cured meats, delectable tagliatelle with porcini mushrooms, and mouthwatering meat options. The friendly staff adds to the warm ambiance, making it perfect for families with little ones who can safely roam around.
It's a nice restaurant on the hilltop just outside Civitella del Tronto. We ordered the cheese platter, tagliatelle with porcini, reale di vitello and zuppa inglese. There are good options for vegetarians in the first course. Zuppa inglese was "cherry on the top". The waiter was kind and polite to help us with our requirements. Definitely a recommended restaurant, if you are around!

Beautiful place with amazing views. The cured meat starter was so flavourful loved it. Great wine . The waiter was a tall, very pleasant and friendly guy. We sat outside given the hot temperatures of June and it was nice feeling the breeze. And very safe with enough space for little kids to run away. I had my 2 year old and there were other toddlers about. I am definitely going back more in future. I am surprised my husband had never taken me there before.

(Translated by Google) Delicious lunch at Le Grotte restaurant! A stone's throw from the Salinello gorges. Various appetizers based on truly exceptional mushrooms and truffles. You can immediately feel the freshness and quality of the products. After the appetizers we had a risotto once again with truffles and mushrooms. It was creamy, flavorful and delicate at the same time. Finally the chef offered us bitters and dry biscuits of her own production. Really good house wine. Very kind staff, very honest price and top quality/price ratio! We will definitely be back, I recommend everyone to try it! Ps there aren't all the photos of the appetizers, I didn't photograph everything 😅 (Original) Delizioso pranzo al ristorante Le Grotte! (Translated by Google) It would take very little to make good food. You are in a place where quality is not lacking. All it takes is a simple menu, with local products and you have already won... Instead you preferred to make fun of us. But what truffles and mushrooms. Lidl mushrooms and truffle flavored chemical oil. The pre-cooked wild boar from the subway... Come on. I never write reviews, but someone works all week and comes to the mountains on Sunday to have a bite to eat, and instead... Then it's normal to feel bad. Invece avete preferito prenderci in giro.
