Historic Sites
National Trust - Little Moreton Hall is a stunning timber-framed mansion with origins dating back to the 15th century. The property offers guided tours, costumed actors, and traditional experiences for an immersive historical visit. Visitors can explore the grand rooms and grounds of this iconic Tudor property, known for its illogical architecture that seems on the verge of toppling into the moat. The uneven floors and charming quirks showcase how age has affected the building's structure over time.
Such a stunning hall! The little book shop is fabulously well stocked. The hall is grand and ever so wonky. It's a perfect Tudor house. The garden is a beautiful walk. It's just so quaint. Their are ducklings and baby moorhens everywhere. The garden boats a wide selection of herbs and fruits. It's a perfect day out for adults and children alike! Their are stairs and the floor is cobblestone in parts. But it's a perfect heritage site. The staff have excellent knowledge and the cafe's are lovely.

First time visiting here. I was not dissapointed. Staff were really friendly and helpful. The house and gardens are small but lovely and very interesting. I think you would struggle viewing the house if you had a mobility issue but there is a ground floor cafe and gardens where you can sit to eat amongst the fruit trees. Its not somewhere unfortunately you can take a dog. But it's definitely well worth a visit
Fiona M — Google review
Fabulous visit to this gem of a Tudor House. A free gravel parking area is provided close to the house, just off the A34. Shaded by mature trees and space for a good number of cars. Knowledgeable staff with an excellent talk given in Tudor dress in the courtyard at 12.00 & the great hall at 2pm. The teashop reckon they are the best in the National Trust & I would not argue 👍😋. Excellent lunch options and homemade specials. Worth a visit in it's own right! No curried pasties, just amazing food from pies, quiche to crumble and custard. Fab (Do note, the new till system does not take Amex cards). The upstairs of the house is not for the less able, but fascinating if you can manage the stairs. No NT shop, but a huge range of secondhand books and a lovely stamp for your NT passport. Certainly worth a visit 👍☺️
Nic P — Google review
I still can't quite believe that this place actually exists. It's a relatively unspoilt Tudor farmhouse cum Manor with moat. Its jam packed with original features and the guides really brought the place to life. It probably isn't big enough to be a full day out but you will not be disappointed by the house. A word of warning, if you are unsteady on your feet or have other mobility issues you may struggle with the narrow winding stairs and uneven floors. I don't think that there was a straight or level piece of wood inside or outside the building. Simply stunning.
Andy H — Google review
Another gem for the national trust to be looking after a big playground for the kids or adults toilets 🚻 spotless and clean dogs allowed on the land but not in the house and only on the outside of the cafe. A small car park free for members and blue badge holders £4 elsewhere. A big picnic area gets busy on hot days and school holidays. Cafe as normal national trust fair. Routes are long and good 👍
Matthew B — Google review
Outstanding wonky Tudor moated Manor house. Built between about 1504 to 1610, it has a fascinating history including being requisitioned in 1643 by Parliamentarians during the English Civil War which plunged the Moreton family owners in to crippling debt. Beautiful house and gardens with a good cafe and shop. Well worth a visit.
Nuts — Google review
A wonderful experience for young and old. Make sure you listen to the guides talk before going round and in the long gallery, enjoy the crooked room. You'll know what I mean when you go there. My grandchildren particularly liked the garderobe and we're fascinated by what passed as a toilet in Tudor times.
Sara N — Google review
architecturally this place is a wonder! You can walk around the whole the uneven, mis shaped house with some beautiful examples of craftsmanship to experience. We went on a Saturday & there was talks on in the great hall throughout the day which really brought to life Tudor England.

Astbury Meadow Garden Centre is a delightful coffee shop nestled in a serene garden center, offering an array of homemade options. With its charming outdoor seating area and expansive grounds, it is a haven for nature enthusiasts. Whether you're searching for plants or other garden essentials, this place has everything you need to create a beautiful garden oasis. Additionally, the shop boasts an enticing selection of treats for both animals and humans alike.
First time visit…… yes it’s a tad expensive. It the quality of items are superb. Purchased a garden furniture suite and a few other items….. pergola lights are superb and much. Righter than expected. Had some food and a drink and that was far exceeding expectations…… popped back on on Sunday for more plants……. Loved it….. new furniture arrived later this week

Great place with good offers. Good choice of plants gardening accessories. Pet accessories, wonderful Halloween & Christmas decorations and gifts. The grow card is good you build up points with each purchase. Which you can save and use against a purchase. The restaurant food is very good and with the grow card you get 2 free cuppas once a month. The staff are always busy but welcoming , helpful & friendly. Great place to visit.

Not visited before. The actual garden centre part had quite a good selection of plants at reasonable prices. The other half has a selection of garden furniture, house plants, house items. The cafe had a good selection on the menu but seemed limited if you have dietary requirements. Most of the staff were cheerful and helpful. Others however were rude and abrupt.
Val C — Google review
Called into the cafe for a coffee after browsing the garden centre. I was dismayed by the staff who disrupted the otherwise tranquil environment by shouting to guests “dya want to come down”. As the majority of visitors were OAPs not really fitting! However my chai latte was delightful thanks.
Michelle G — Google review
Nice garden centre but..limited number of disabled spaces. We have been multiple times now and never managed to get a space. Some of the surfaces could easily be made more wheel chair friendly. Perhaps the staff might try pushing a wheel chair from the main car park to the plant area and then across to the centre. If still not convinced try doing the same at Fairways and compare.

Stopped by for lunch while we were setting up our new workshop just round the corner — what a lovely place. Staff were super friendly, food was great and the cake was honestly incredible. It’s a bit dangerous having somewhere this nice only 4 minutes from work… we’ll definitely be back!

Ample parking. Large selection of indoor plants as well as outdoor and interesting department of kitchen goods, ornamental objects and sweets, wines etc. Big restaurant area with very nice cakes. We didn't try the savoury food but the menu looked appetising. A bit pricey.

Great advice from the staff helped me choose the right item. A wide selection of plants and gardening equipment makes this a perfect place to visit for inspiration. And a cafe in which to enjoy a treat!

Farms
Glebe Farm, located in Astbury, Cheshire, offers a variety of activities for the whole family. The farm features a coffee shop, farm shop, butchers, and fishmongers along with independently owned shops and businesses housed in barns and outbuildings. Children can enjoy the play area and tractor rides on weekends and during the summer. Additionally, there is an indoor barn area with small animals to interact with. The farm also hosts kids' parties.
My son and myself found Glebe Farm by accident as we were having a look at Saint Mary's Church. It's a super place where you can see (and feed!) several, different types of animals including donkeys, llamas and goats. There is also, surprisingly, a small shopping area with lots of different, niche-type workshops. We spent some time in the children's play area and considered to take the Tractor Ride which is very reasonably priced at £1.00 per person. I was, personally, delighted with Glebe Farm and I fully intend to visit again perhaps in the May Day event on 17th May.

Great place. We came away with bottles of local ales, chutney, meat and cheese. There are several different shops including clothing and camping. We'll worth visiting for all that alone but on top of it all there's the animals which our granddaughter loved seeing and feeding with the £1 bags of feed. Then having a tractor trailer ride around the fields, a play in the play area and an ice cream. Plenty of parking. Something for everyone.

My kids love petting the animals here especially the highland cows. We also had a look in the shop which has a great variety of local produce and also looks amazing too. A definite must visit.

Fabulous experience from 1 to 99 years old and it's free!! Donkeys Alpacas sheep pigs Shetland pony peacocks and many more animals to pet and feed. An aviary with parrots budgies golden pheasant and others.. Meerkats, small playground 1-10. Wash hands stations.. Farm shop with excellent range of food. Cafe.. Ice cream.. Arty shops and others. Great place to spend a couple of hours with little ones. And maybe spend some money too. Been loads kids always love it.
Allan J — Google review
Absolutely love it here. It's free, you can purchase animal feed and also pay to have a tractor ride too. So much fun to be had.

It was lovely to see the animals, my girls especially loved the donkeys and the ponys. The £1 bucket of feed is well worth doing. It's a lovely little place and will definitely be back in the future.

Astbury Mere Country Park, located on the grounds of a former sand quarry, is a 14-acre dog- and family-friendly park just a short walk from Congleton town center. The park features pram-friendly trails around the mere and offers wheelchair accessibility with rentals available at the visitor center. Visitors can enjoy a community orchard, seasonal water sports, fishing (for members only), and mobile catering during peak times.
As a teenager we used to break into this area to swim and dive off the old quarrying equipment - only occasionally being forced to run away when security came round. These days it’s a great community facility whether for a walk, a run, water sports or just a pleasant place to spend some time. Slight pity that there’s no outdoor swimming available but you can’t have everything and we should all applaud the locals who stepped in to protest and stop the development of the whole area.

A 1 mile walk around the lake, with a car park (small charge, cash or card), and a cafe and toilets. Many dogs, good trail, good for running. No cycling permitted.
Kevin H — Google review
Absolutely beautiful. 2.5 mile round walk from the visit centre with a couple of hides to also walk to. Deserted when we went so we had the huge beach to ourselves. Definitely recommend for nature lovers and walkers and those who want to bird and animal watch.
Jane P — Google review
Visited here for the Saturday 9am Parkun. There is plenty of parking at 8:30, however it was full by 8:45. There was a long queue for the single ticket machine, that takes cash/card, however there is a PayPal QR code on the window next to the machine, so you can do an online payment, just remember to add you reg plate as the reference. There are toilets and food outlets around the carpark. This a moderately busy parkrun, with ~300 runner and circles the lake anti-clockwise for 3 laps. The paths are well compacted, so road shoes are fine, also its about as flat as you get in the UK. The paths are a bit narrow in places, so you must be aware of faster runners overtaking in the later laps. Well managed and organized event and great venue for folk new to parkrun.

A good level walk around a lovely mere with birds aplenty and good views, lots of benches to rest awhile and a cafe st the end of the circular walk nice views very peaceful too will definitely return again

At GG's enjoy a coffee, tea or soft drink after a walk round the Mere, if you're hungry, add crumpets, a toastie or even a cinnamon waffle with ice cream. Let the dogs roam free on the green, or play football with the kids. Feed the ducks as you walk round, book a paddle board or canoe at the activities centre. Walk through the woods, enjoy the scenery. We spent four hours today, and never got board and grandson didn't want to go home.
Diane — Google review
Really nice to walk around. Open green spaces, woodland and you can see the mere from various points. Large enough to social distance. We spent an hour here at 11.30am on a Sunday and the car park was busy. Cost 50p to park for 4 hours and the machine doesn't give change. Mix of families, dog walkers and cyclists. Would like to go back for longer and maybe take a picnic.

Nestled in the picturesque village of Astbury, the Egerton Arms is a charming 16th-century pub that offers a delightful blend of history and comfort. With warm, inviting rooms equipped with free Wi-Fi, it’s an ideal spot for travelers seeking both relaxation and local flavor. The recent management change has brought about a welcoming atmosphere, where friendly staff go above and beyond to ensure guests feel at home. During my visit, I was pleasantly surprised by how cozy and clean the accommodations were.
The Egerton Arms, is in a beautiful part of the English countryside in Astbury, opposite the beautiful church with a 2000 year old yew tree and some very fascinating gravestones. Ample on site parking, we arrived on a Sunday, and the car park was extremely busy. Our room was lovely, even though it felt a bit of a hike to get to it, the stairs although few were quite steep! Lovely view over the beer garden. We also chose to have our evening meals here, and we were not disappointed, and came to understand why the car park was as busy as it was. We were going to have a Sunday dinner, but after they brought the specials board over with Ox cheek on it, we went for that instead, we still got the Yorkshire Puds! It was absolutely fabulous. Meat cooked perfectly, oodles of rich gravy and veg to go with it. The second night after having a walk around the nearby town of Congleton, which can be walked to either via the main road or as we did the public footpath over farm land, we decided to have Rag pudding, neither of us had heard of it so just had to try it. Again we were not dissapointed! Service and people were lovely, friendly, showed us to our room when we got there. Reasonably priced as well for being out in the middle of nowhere! We normally book bed and breakfast, but these guys didn't do breakfast, which given how nice our evening meals were we felt that was a shame, but we knew what we were getting when we booked and the nearby Glebe farm had an onsite cafe, which we did eat at one morning, and thoroughly enjoyed. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here.

Went for midweek lunch.. Great choice of food from normal pub grub to something a bit different. I had crispy beef in sticky sauce and rice.. was delicious 😋.. very friendly and welcoming staff/ waiters. Competitively priced Will go back

My wife and I stayed here on our backpacking trip across England. Staff was friendly and helpful, and our room was clean, comfortable, and cozy. We were right above the pub and beer garden, but it wasn't noisy at all. Food and beers on tap were fantastic, and was located across the street from a historic church where we heard the carilloner ringing the church bells. I think this was my favorite place we stayed on our whole trip. Would recommend this place to anyone, both as a pub and place to stay.

Thank you so much for a delicious Sunday roast chicken lunch yesterday. Generous portions, beautifully cooked and i really appreciated you swapping out the vegetables for the ones i preferred! Faultless, everything about this little pub was perfect, staff are so lovely and welcoming nothing was any trouble for them, all very polite too. The food we had was perfect, I have not eaten such lovely food in a pub, in so long, until we found this lovely place. This is the second time my son has been here, it's my first and will definitely be back.

Absolutely superb food and excellent service to match. Specials in particular are very reasonably priced and very tasty with generous portion sizes! Good selection of beers and ciders on tap. And very good at catering to gluten free and dairy free. Had a great time and definitely plan to come back again in the future.

Visited 15.06.25 for Sunday Roast. We received a warm welcome and seated in a quiet area, which I'd asked for, having my elderly Mum, who is hard of hearing. The staff were friendly, kind & caring. The Sunday roast was superb, served hot & full of flavour. We had dessert that was fabulous. We can highly recommend it. Ann M.

The Cheshire Tavern is a sizable inn located in Congleton, known for its roadside terrace and deals on pub food. The family-run establishment offers a lively atmosphere with weekly quizzes and curry nights. Visitors can enjoy a feast at this meat palace, where the chef's recommendations include The Dirty Burger and The Colonel. In addition to its culinary offerings, Congleton is celebrated for its historic buildings dating back to the 15th century, creating an eclectic mix along the High Street.
Always fantastic service and food. The owners thoroughly care about their customers and it is most certainly shown. Definitely one of my go to places for pub grub and drinks.

Really poor food that was microwaved to less than perfection. The service was terrible and you were basically made to feel like an inconvenience The fat all over the plate is from the salad. It's not a sauce it's literally oil. Thank goodness my wife chose the low fat option. 2 stars because the building is lovely. But heck get someone else in to run it before they destroy the trade completely

Main point...the new landlord 16/09/2018 didn't like my 2* review and instead of just replying apologising for their mistakes and letting me know they wouldn't be getting the new vegan menu/contacting Marston's (they are a Marston's pub) to be removed from the list of pubs getting it - he instead decided to find my Facebook on his personal account and publicly light at my profile picture...what a way to run a business... Not a good experience. On their website it says they launched a new meat free vegan menu on 5 sept. Travelled to get this and they said it wasn't launching for a couple of weeks... I then looked at the menu and saw there were some vegan options labelled (red V symbol on the menu). I clarified this with the person I ordered from. (Wedges with no cheese or sour cream - just salsa and guacamole; BBQ jackfruit nachos that were labelled vegan by default) both dishes turned up with cheese all over them. 1 had sour cream.as well. Had to wait for more food to be made. It seems like the kitchen just don't follow their menu as described which is dangerous for people with allergies and dietary requirements. On the plus side, the 2 people serving were friendly and nice. Poor show Marstens and poor show Cheshire Tavern in Congleton.
Simon H — Google review
Very disappointed with our meal. Food came out burnt. Somethings didn't arrive without us asking. Portion sizes poor. Steak was very grissly and overcooked. Complained unfortunately. Staff were not attentive. They had to ask a few times when ordering our food. Have taken a photo of one of the meals although it doesn't show how poor it really was. Marston pubs need to look at their pubs.

Just been to this pub/restaurant for a buffet Wake after a funeral. My Son & partner are Vegans and the buffet had nothing compatible with Vegans. I spoke to the member of staff who immediately suggested he do a Vegan burger. These arrived soon after, I offered to pay as they were not included on the buffet, but was told parent not necessary. Great service, great buffet, great burger. Well done to all staff

Only been 3 times. But each time the food has been a disgrace. Under cooked. And over priced. A bowl of chips was £2.50 and no joke.... was smaller than a soup bowl with max.... 10 chips in it! My nephew had a kids pita pizza and the cheese wasn't even melted. Didn't dare let him have the sausage on it. Apart from the food. The staff are nice, helpful and friendly. The place is clean and tidy.

Went to celebrate with 7 colleagues, our big birthdays( 50 and 60!!🥂🎂) with delicious afternoon tea. The decor is really good, very welcoming and chic, the food was delicious, and the service really good. However,if I may add 2 disappointing things, the 1 st one, coffee were not part of the prices( only teas). 2 of my colleagues don't drink tea... And the second one,I ended up having a fine of 100£ as I didn't realising that you have to give your car registration on arrival but was not prompted,or given the tablet when I 1 st arrived. However, after calling the restaurant few days later, they asked me my car registration and said that the fine was cancelled...pfew... Over all,a great venue if you have special occasion to celebrate 🥂🥳 and great food. Will come again ( and this tie will make sure I put my car registration in...😉)

We arrived early afternoon on a Sunday. Once we took our table; everything slowed down… The dining area was 50% full at best for our duration. I would hate to see the service at capacity. We had to gain staff’s attention multiple times and they could have been more attentive. They generally seemed young and inexperienced. The food quality was great, I genuinely couldn’t fault it. But seeing the quantity, I was already planning want I would like to eat later in the day before I had finished the starter. Once the bill arrived; we (4) all agreed immediately that they could remove the service charge. I am more than willing to tip good service, Pecks did not provide this.

I went here for Sunday lunch on the 28th September and found it very disappointing. The service was not good we waited at least 40 minutes for the starter which was not very good I had the cauliflower bang bang which had a very heavy batter on it and that is all you could taste. The main meal was really good l could not fault it. The sweet again not good which was disappointing as I had heard they were excellent I had the rum and raisin cheesecake there were very little taste of rum and raisin on the base of the cheesecake there was a scraping of a paste that was the rum and raisin and the cheesecake was like eating a thick cream with little taste. at £37 pound a meal it was not worth it we had a bottle of wine at £35 which again for the price was not really good or worth it. The service throughout was not good and staff not very attentive on leaving there were no one at reception where my coat was left I could not find anyone to help so i had to get the coat myself which is a security issue. would never go again. .

Great treat night out, it is unique and definitely something to remember a spacial occasion. The food was extraordinary but pay attention and choose wisely when the food is presented as the beef meal was overpowered by the horse radish. Overall a great selection of meals and all very tasty, we struggled to fit in all of the courses but they do offer a take out if you can't fit the desert and cheese board in. Be prepared for a late one as dinner at 8 finished after 11, so late taxi or drive home. Not cheap but very special.

I had afternoon tea here with a few friends and it was lovely. Parking was a nightmare but the staff offered to move their cars for us. There was a lot of food but more sweet than savory items. There could have been more sandwiches to balance it better. I also had to ask for top ups of tea and coffee, the staff were friendly but not very attentive after we had been given the food. New review. I went with my mum for lunch and wasn't impressed with the main chicken and mango salad. The dessert was basic. But the starter was good. Honestly not worth the money.

Nestled in a charming setting, The Brownlow Inn is the ideal spot for those seeking a delightful dining experience. This friendly pub boasts an impressive selection of fine wines and local ales, complemented by a lovely conservatory dining area perfect for enjoying everything from succulent steaks to global dishes. Recently, I had the pleasure of celebrating special occasions with family here, and it was nothing short of fantastic! The attentive staff ensured we felt well taken care of throughout our meal.
The most exceptional meal and service we have had in a very long time! Every member of staff we interacted with were welcoming and friendly, the food was phenomenal and the overall atmosphere of the restaurant was really accommodating. We had starters, mains, deserts and 2 drinks each and all was very reasonably priced, not to mention how delicious each course was! Shoutout to Ethan ( I think that was his name) as we interacted with him the most. This was our first time here and certainly won't be our last.

Lovely meal at Brownlow today with our walking group. Ordered our meals before walk,on our return our table for 10 was ready and the staff gave us good service and our meals were very good. Plenty of parking available too.

Lovely pub, lovelier male waiter. Chicken strip starter was ok. Mushrooms and stilton was plentiful but very pungent in taste. Partner had steak pie. Overcooked pastry which was too hard for him so he scraped the inside out and left the rest. My Chicken pie wasn't as bad but became dry as not much white wine sauce within. Again, scraped the inside out and made do. Pre - sea salted chips plus the gravy overall meant too salty for me! Couldn't eat anymore as it was just salt I could taste. We wish we had tried the steaks. Based on tonight, we will not return 😢. Great menu though and lots of choice. All staff spot on 👍

Absolutely lovely meal, heard good things about this place and we were not disappointed. The food was 10/10 especially the sticky toffee pudding. Ethan our waiter was a star, efficient and a joy to speak to! We will be back :)

For a long story short- this was an amazing experience here today. For the long story: please note before I start with this review, I have been in the hospitality industry 8 years and managed my own bistro pub for a long time, and 2 of the other friends I came here today with are extremely snobby eaters and complain about everything. Me and 3 others came here today as a walk in (which is very unlike us as we always book) but it was a Monday early evening so hoped it would be fine. As soon as we walked through the doors were were greeted with extremely friendly smiles from the staff, we were seated instantly in a lovely Resturant area, as walking through the rest of the staff also greeted us with warm smiles which is lovely to see! We ordered 4 starters and 4 mains. Two of our party are gluten free which obviously is very annoying for anyone in the food industry. The team were all very knowledgeable about the menu, able to tell us all the specials with no relay from a note pad (telling me a successful brief had been done before the shift) and we were always greeted and approached with smiles. Being gluten free there is definitely worries about the food we digest but the waitresses today all very much reassured us and triple checked with the chefs etc. when our starters came which was two breaded Brie and two special ham hocks with crispy cheese and potato cake, we all groaned in pleasure! We mentioned throughout the table that this is not going to be topped by our mains…. Until it was!! For our mains we ordered a beef stroganoff, a beef pie and 2 ribeye steaks. These were fantastic and we would have been happy to pay double. We all were extremely surprised that the food was just this good. The peppercorn sauce with the steak was the best I’ve ever eaten and trust me I’ve ordered a steak here and there in the past. We couldn’t believe that the chips were homemade! As soon as it was put on our table, we all mentioned this about the chips. I have never seen a ribeye be as thick as this ribeye I had here today. We as a collective group didn’t eat much unfortunately due to being hanging out of our backsides, but my golly we definitely enjoyed it. Three of us had a rhubarb and ginger gin and lemonade, and again we all drink a LOT of gin, and spoke throughout the table about how this is a lovely gin and definitely better than Whitley Niel.. low and behold when asked what gin this was is WAS Whitley Neil so it must’ve been the lemonade which made it taste so good… I would say it was a freshly cleaned soft drinks pump or something as it was so crisp. I hope this shows how fantastic our experience has been and we will definitely be back and be recommending to others. This was given to be by a recommendation and it’s probably the best recommendation I’ve ever been given. Thank you all for our fantastic experience and hope our tip shows our gratitude. We look forward to coming again very soon.

We went for a family meal and it was fantastic. The food was absolutely delicious. I had the steak, wow. Absolutely beautiful. Medium rare cooked to perfection. The staff were just brilliant. One overheard that it was our daughters birthday and upon ordering dessert they sent over a FREE pudding with a happy birthday message styled on it. I cannot say enough how nice this pub/restaurant is. The food and beers are all locally sourced which is a massive win. We are definitely going back time and time again

Absolutely loved our visit to The Brownlow Inn! The food was amazing — generous portions, full of flavour, and beautifully cooked. You can tell everything’s made with care and attention. The beer and drink selection was great too, perfectly chilled and well looked after. The staff were friendly, attentive and made us feel really welcome from the moment we arrived. Lovely cosy atmosphere and great value for money. Easily one of the best pubs in the area — can’t wait to come back!

Grocery store
Morrisons is a supermarket located in the Bridestone Shopping Centre, offering a wide variety of food and products. The store features spacious aisles and occasional bargains marked with yellow price markers, especially for club card holders. However, some customers have experienced issues with self-serve tills and customer service at the checkout. Despite this, Morrisons offers competitive prices on items like sea bass and their Gourmet range of meats.
Nice and chilled on a hot day. Good selection of reasonably priced foods.

A good, plain, town centre supermarket with a decent amount of parking. The staff are fine and, if you are a regular, they are doubly so. As long as you're no' a 'Karen' or a 'Ken', o'course. No bein' Entitled and Stroppy at the workers, y'ken?

Another frustrating visit to this store. Wrongly labelled bread, with no bakery staff to see. Asked another member of staff that corrected the mistake after a 10 min wait. Lady on the checkout was so slow to add to an annoying length of time already, and don't get me started on the deli counter. I don't think that has ever run well.
Caroline R — Google review
Not as good as festival park. Asked man behind nuggie counter if he could do me a 9 pack and he laughed at me, then said no.

Just looks so boring in there, the colours are dull, saw a few staff members messing with food, most of it gets wasted and the tills are all cramped. The car park is crazy down below.

When you find yourself in Congleton, make sure to carve out some time for the Congleton Museum, a charming little gem that beautifully encapsulates the town's rich history. Nestled in the heart of Congleton, this museum offers an engaging journey through time with its diverse collection of artifacts and photographs. From prehistoric relics to insights into the industrial era, each exhibit tells a unique story about how this quaint town has evolved over centuries.
Can't believe this small but mighty museum is free! So much thought has been put in it which makes it a treasure in its own right. Loved seeing the hoards of coins found by detectorists as well as learning about the history: the Romans, Bronze age, the Civil War, Industrial revolution and WWII. Every major era in one room - what a mavellous way to engage and educate a local primary school kid. Very well done 👏

Lovely little museum with plenty of fascinating artefacts from the area including a log boat from 930AD and a burial urn from 1500BC. There's information about local industry and former mayor John Bradshaw who signed King Charles I's death warrant. Free of charge but deserves to get a donation from visitors. Hopefully local schools bring children to it. Would have liked to have known why G H Eardley got his VC.

Congleton Museum is low on space, but they use it very well! Lots of information about different periods, as well as how we know about these times in Congleton's history. There is an interactive aspect to most of the exhibits and it would be very engaging for children as well as generally accessible to people with limited mobility or those who use a wheelchair. There is a small shop in the entrance, well-stoked with history books, postcards, small gift items and calendars, and the volunteer staff were very helpful! I definitely recommend a visit to this small, but precious, gem!

If you're planning a summer outing in Congleton with your little ones, the Congleton Paddling Pool is an absolute gem that should be on your itinerary. This delightful outdoor paddling and wading pool caters specifically to children under 11, providing a safe environment for them to splash around and have fun. The area surrounding the pool features ample green space, making it ideal for a family picnic while parents can relax nearby.
First visit. Struggled to find it from Google maps. just follow the brown leasure signs. It’s a lovely paddling pool for kids. Free entry with free parking next to it. Safe enclosed premises with toilet facilities available. Lots of seating around the pool for adults or sit on the grass bank for a picnic. 100% recommended
Heidi L — Google review
All you have to do is book online via congleton town council and you get a 3 hour slot. It's about 60' in diameter and at its deepest it's just under knee deep to an adult, it's clean and safe for the kids. Best part, it's free. There are no refreshments on site, you can bring your own though. The only amenities on site are a toilet and some bins and 7 benches, there is space to lay out a towel and lounge in the sun though.
Paul P — Google review
I love this paddling pool, went about 30 years ago and today with my grandson, easy to find, lovely ladies to show you in and clear and very clean water, there is a toilet/changing room, seats and a low wall and grass to sit on, i honestly cannot praise Congleton enough for keeping this iconic treasure in such good condition, a lovely free day, and can take a picnic, excellent.
Amanda R — Google review
So had to queue for 30 minutes before gaining entry. Whilst waiting with my 5 year old grandson there were a lot of older children in with their siblings, despite parents also in attendance on the sidelines. Totally unfair as they were taking up valuable spaces when the pool clearly had many spaces available. Also, picnics were had by all despite advertising this was not allowed, as were inflatables, balls and other games which were 'not' allowed. When I questioned the attendant he said was nothing to do with him - seriously???? What the hell is the point when the attendant does NOT enforce pool rules. Pretty useless Cheshire East!!!!
Angela C — Google review
Queued for nearly an hour. Then was told it was at capacity. I understand rules such as these, but we've been before and twice as many people were allowed in. I have one very unhappy child.
Leiann W — Google review
Returned here today for first time in years. As promised, I'm leaving a positive review. Pool was clean and enjoyable. It was busy but it would have been way busier if not for booking system. We managed to book for our group without difficulty. The staff there were helpful and friendly. Parking is a little tricky... But we eventually found spaces. It's free and we're grateful.
C J — Google review
Online bookings only that are often full for 140 people well in advance but still lots of no shows. I went when there where less than a 100 show and they still couldn't let us in. Seems a waste of resources when the council haven't imposed rules to prevent this happening.

The cafe has recently been renovated and is lovely inside. Very good choice of breakfasts and drinks all at reasonable prices. Speedy service with a smile. My only gripes was the sausages were quite bland, the black pudding didn't taste like it had been freshly cooked, and I would have prefered maple syrup with pancakes and bacon, not golden syrup. All being said, I would definitely visit again.

Havent been here for over a year since I was last in the area and it's really deteriorated since I last came. The quality of the food is poor. Speed over quality it seems given that I paid 14 quid for a breakfast and was served the cheapest of the cheap sausages which were pale.. questionable wether they had actually been cooked but didnt risk it... pancakes were stale. Coffee was half decent though I guess. Previously the quality was outstanding. Now I feel its just another greasy spoon thats comprising quality over profit. And for a Friday breakfast time. It was a ghost town. And I understand why.

Brilliant Deli with inside and outside seating. Great table service and an extensive menu of classic light bites and lunches as well as a large selection of cakes. Takeout also available. It gets busy but people don't stay too long so you can get a seat usually.

Lovely little brunch place. Great cakes, pastries, take away deli food and sit-in table service. My ten year old and I love the English breakfast in particular! In fact, this morning when the server brought the food everything looked so delicious we just tucked in - forgetting to take the food photos we’d planned to take! Anyway - everyone I have brought here really likes this gem and my family and I highly recommend it to you.

Went in just before close yesterday for cake and some pies/pasties and was served promptly and without rush so I do commend the service. I've gone to eat my pie today and found it to be very mouldy (as pictured)! This is less than 24 hours from purchase and having been refrigerated since. Disgusting!

This park is beautifully maintained it has a cafe dogs allowed, a playground, bowling green rugby field and a wooded area under tree canopy’s with lots of squirrels. No litter and volunteers working on the flower beds. Public toilets no litter. Not a busy place parking available across the river bridge. Good access for those with pushchairs or wheelchairs.

Stunning Victorian park maintained to an incredibly high standard by Cheshire East Council. Surrounded on 2 sides by the River Dane complete with an impressive weir at one end. Includes loads of paths to walk, many floral displays and good modern children's playground.

Beautiful, well maintained park. Attractive flowerbeds surrounded by grass ideal to have a picnic on. Lovely enclosed children's play area with numerous different apparatus which our granddaughter lived. Toilets available and easy parking nearby. Lots of fascinating history associated with the park dating back to its opening in 1871 including a Victorian pavilion and drinking fountain.

Beautiful park. Lots of areas for picnics. Very clean + quiet. Only downside is toilets locking at half 3 😅

This park is really lovely. The play park is amazing for the kids and there is plenty of open spaces for picnics etc. loved our day there

The park is a little gem! There are many people maintaining the flowers and the wildlife in the park and it's one of my family's favourite spots. It's small but offers so much. The flower lovers will be absolutely in love with it, there is a little paths into the woods for walking and exploring, there is a huge playground for the children and even a tea room where you can have hot or cold beverage and and some food. It definitely worth visiting 🥰

They offer an impressive range of instruments including guitars, basses, drums, and pianos—perfect for anyone looking to dive into music. I'm no guitar player but took a rough battered beloved guitar that holds high sentimental value to be restrung. It came back looking like a new guitar with obviously the love, polish & attention (& free advice on how to start playing)that my limitations obviously lacked.Great service.Highly recommend.

Brilliant. We get drum and guitar lessons here. They just helped me choose a new acoustic guitar, which I am super pleased with. They also sell Warhammer.
Edd M — Google review
A brilliant local music store community that offers buying and selling of instruments and also one to one instrument lessons. I've personally sold a guitar through the shop and had great service off Alasdair. I have also had private lessons with Olly that have been a great help to my guitar playing.
Daniel H — Google review
I visited the shop recently and found it to be a very pleasant experience. My acoustic guitar was cleaned, restrung and tuned at a very reasonable price and sounds better than ever. I also purchased another guitar, which was in excellent condition and I am very pleased with.

Antique Stores
The Victoria Mill Antique & Collectors Centre is an intriguing place to explore, with a wide variety of items that will captivate visitors. It offers an extensive selection of antique furniture and collectables, providing ample opportunities for purchasing unique treasures. While the prices at the cafe may be a drawback for some, the overall experience of walking around this establishment is highly recommended. Visitors can easily spend several hours perusing the diverse range of offerings and find both small trinkets or larger statement pieces.
Loved finally getting to The Mill. What a labyrinth of curios & treasures on 3 floors. I was drawn by the great stall of catscradlevintagespace on Fb... Very theatrical staging . Staff very friendly. Hoping to make a return visit soon! Love my purchase.
Sarah P — Google review
We love a good mooch on a Sunday around vintage / retro stores. Having a penchant for mid century ceramics and glass Victoria Mill is a good as place as any to start… There is now a new basement open so it’s over four floors… If you struggle with stairs this is not going to be the place for you. However, I usually find a few treasures here although I have to say there is a lot of dealers offering the same trinkets with a few stalls bordering on tat. A couple of new dealers are offering mid century and army regalia so things are definitely on the up. So get stuck in and delve into this place as there’s still good deals to be done. We didn’t eat at the cafe as it was closing (2pm on Sunday) although the quiche and Vickie sponge looked promising. Thanks
Fredrick H — Google review
Could spend days in here so much to see from bric-a-brac to genuine antiques, we were in here for 2 hours and barely scratched the surface. Brilliant place for browsers
Rick B — Google review
Rude and unwelcoming. Was out for a lovely sunny spring bank holiday weekend day with my adult son and daughter. We frequently seek out antique and vintage stores so have been to many. This place looked interesting but less than 2 mins in lady stopped my son to say no hats allowed. This made us all feel very uncomfortable and we left, quite shocked. Can't think of any good reason. For goodness sake someone might have health reasons or anything.
H E — Google review
I also was asked to remove my hat by some jobsworth. It was a flat cap and when I asked what did they think I could hide in a flat cap, the reply was that it was necessary so my face could not be covered! I would have looked pretty stupid walking round with a flat cap covering my face. Utterly ridiculous! it spoiled the day as the staff and food in the cafeteria was superb!
Nick M — Google review
Followed you around the shop didn’t feel welcome it’s a shame really as they had some good stuff we’ve been to loads of places and never felt like that and came to paying she wasn’t nice either be aware of this
Amy ( — Google review
Intrigued by some poor reviews, I had to go and visit! Great place with good sensibly priced selection, reduction on dearer items. Staffed by two extremely helpful ladies today, certainly didn't follow me round, but promptly and efficiently dealt with my queries and negotiated on my behalf with a dealer. What's not to like?

If you're in search of a reliable local hardware store, look no further than Handy Cabin. This charming shop offers a refreshing alternative to the larger DIY chains, providing personalized service that feels like stepping back in time. The knowledgeable team is always ready to lend a hand with expert advice and practical solutions for your projects, ensuring you feel valued as a customer from the moment you walk through the door.
When I phoned to ask if they had the paint in the colour I needed, and 4 other items, they said they would put them to one side. I was struck in traffic, so phoned to say I wouldn't be able to make it before 5.30pm. Josh said, 'No problem, I will deliver them to your house '!! Absolutely excellent, first class service!!! Thank you once again!!
Neil M — Google review
I needed some help matching up new paint after heating engineers had fitted a new boiler and had to plaster the wall, the two lady's in the shop were very helpful and matched me up with the correct colour emulsion which blended perfectly, they also kitted me out with brushes, rollers masking tape etc to do the job great friendly service 👍. I would definitely recommend and use again.
Ian H — Google review
An excellent shop. Both the lads are extremely helpful and not in the slightest bit patronising when I’ve made a botch job of something simple and need them to advise me out of it! Very competitively priced and I’m amazed how a small local business always seems to have everything I need. I’ll definitely keep returning, although that’s more to do with my DIY skills more than anything!
Andrew G — Google review

An absolutely fantastic service is provided to customers from the moment they walk in. The staff are all welcoming, friendly and very helpful from start to finish. A great little store with a huge positive community spirit.

We've bought quite a lot from Handy Cabin recently, like paint, screws, door handles, wood stain, grass seed etc. Each time the service has been excellent, they're very happy to give advice, they're well stocked and the prices are competitive. Definitely recommended.
David H — Google review
In my view the only place to go if you're in a fix. The staff are so help full, when ever I go in to the shop and discuss my need they are right on point with clear advise on how best to approach the problem. Shopping local means so much nowadays when the internet is taking hold on how we buy products, there is no substitute for a well stocked DIY store on your door step.

Shopping mall
West Heath Retail Park is a charming and well-maintained park that offers beautifully manicured gardens, a boating lake, and a children's play area. It's an ideal destination for families looking to enjoy activities like feeding ducks, indulging in ice cream, or simply basking in the sunshine. The park hosts various events throughout the year, adding to its appeal as a leisure spot.
Great compact shopping centre, great shops to visit , great parking lot too.
Mum N — Google review
West Heath retail park has a varied range of shops available a good number of parking spots a good proportion of these are directly in front of the shops, the only criticism being that no policing is carried out (difficulty of a privately owned car park) and a high proportion of the disabled parking spots are taken by non blue badge car owners. Having said this there is a comparatively low number of parent and child spaces. So there may be an overspill of parents into the disabled spots. The inclusion of a "we buy any car" sales hut has not helped this situation. Overall a good experience and, no doubt, a valuable asset to the local community.
Duncan E — Google review
West Heath Retail Park offers a good range of shops and services, there are highstreet shops Aldi, HomeBargains, Iceland, Morrisons shop and go, Subway, Bargain Booze, there is a veterinary surgery, Chinese restaurant for dining in or takeaway food, betting shop. Newsagents, fish and chip shop, plus other smaller independent shops, lots of parking,
Mike N — Google review
Popped into a few shops, including Home Bargains, for some Fruit-tella (sugar free) sweets. They don’t appear to be available at the local supermarket.
Pirthipal S — Google review
Good shopping centre but the covered mall is a nightmare, after school full of children riding bikes and scooters and shouting. Update 11/03/25. The mall is now much better, it has a DIY, flower and plant, stall and a Greek cafe.

Event venue
Opera company
Clonter Opera Theatre, located near Swettenham in Cheshire farmland, is reopening its doors this spring and summer after a year-long hiatus. The venue offers professional performances and allows guests to book seats or hire tables for indoor picnics during shows. Celebrating its 50th anniversary, Clonter has proven to be a popular and viable destination for top-class music.
Clonter is far more than a name. Put simply, it's a beacon of musical excellence and nurture, shining out from its rural home near Congleton into the surrounding towns and villages. One think to make clear. It's not all about opera, though this remains the heart of Clonter. In the last year I have enjoyed the very best of international and UK performers from a wide range of musical genres including Jazz, Folk and Gospel. Neither is it elitist. You don't need a dinner jacket and a bow tie - just come as you are. Clonter brings outstanding music to everyone and, in particular has a heart for young people. It offers them ( often for free) a chance to experience a wide range of professional live musical performances, and opportunities to take part and develop their own musical talents. Once a farm building with straw-bail seats, it now offers an eclectic, family run venue for the whole family -comfortable theatre-style seat, a warm welcome from the enthusiastic front of house volunteers , a unique intimacy with the performers , a choice of snack meals, a well stocked bar and exceptional value for money. You can even bring your own picnic to many performances, so there's no excuse for not bringing the whole family or a group of friends. So..what are you waiting for ? Simply type Clonter Opera into your favorite search platform ( Google, Yahoo, Facebook ( X), or Instagram), and do yourself a favour. You will not need to ' break the bank'. Ticket prices are far lower than anything you will ever pay for comparable events in Manchester, Liverpool or Leeds. Book yourself a musical experience to remember. Like me, you'll soon be back again.

For my wife and I this was our first time at Clonter Opera theatre. We have seen their posters for a few years and wondered why we have never been. Wow, what a nice evening. You can bring a picnic to enjoy before the show at the many tables they have set out and then see a performance. Everyone there was very friendly. We saw Tosca and it was brilliant. Only a small production but very professional with excellent dramatic acting...and the voices of all the singers were fantastic. The Clonter opera theater might be small but it is excellent. Wil definitely go again

A wonderful evening at a fabulous venue, hidden away in the beautiful Cheshire countryside.

My car got damaged there, the area is poorly lit up when you're leaving the venue. They got massive Rocks by the exit on either side with no warning or lights on, I've been told to get them pay for the damage, got dash cam and its costing me over £200 for bodywork.
Adam T — Google review
What a quirky yet lovely place,we had a great time and we really enjoyed it, we took a yummy picnic & just booked a table, you have to buy booze from the bar (fair enough) nice choice of wine at a reasonable price. Watched Ben Summers band all sorts of great live music, the theatre chairs are very comfy. The staff are outstanding and so helpful.whats not to like ! Will be going again soon.
Sheila C — Google review
While other memories fade, people with dementia continue to enjoy music and singing especially listening to and singing familiar songs.. They also tend to develop a sweet tooth. Their carers often feel isolated and stressed and need opportunities to socialise and relax. Clonter Opera’s afternoon tea with songs delivers on all three fronts. The performers are first class, the staff invariably courteous and considerate and the tea delicious. The event is hugely beneficial for our mental health and we look forward to the next one. Thank you Clonter for your wonderful contribution to the enjoyment and well-being of local people with physical and mental disabilities and their carers.
Carol N — Google review
This is a tremendous venue in the middle of Cheshire farmland. It may sound quaint but the set up is very professional. You are able to simply book your seats for performances or you can hire tables in the restaurant for your own indoor picnic. We saw James Pearson and friends at a Jazz evening, and he is the resident at Ronnie Scott's in London. So that can't be bad. The place is celebrating its 50th anniversary and so it's longevity speaks volumes for its popularity and viability.
David V — Google review
Mozart Magic Flute totally brilliant! Superbly talented singers supported by impressive and well directed orchestra with the charm offered by this unique venue. Be part of this musical history by the clapping of your hands! This troup translate eloquently Mozart's genius musical mind waiting to warm your soul.

First time in Congleton, and I wanted cheesy chips! Not the cold grated cheese I wanted it fully melted. I went in and asked how they produce their cheesy chips to which the man behind the counter answered my question and passed with flying colours. The food was spot on and service was perfect!

Ordered online for home delivery 2 Donna kebabs & popcorn chicken & chips.. Took over 80mins to arrive ..this is on a monday evening...the website said estimate 45mins... the food when it arrived looked like a dogs dinner! The donna meat looked like it had been on the machine all weekend under heat...absolutely dried out ..hard and curly ...inedible ! They tried to disguise the meat by smothering it in my chosen source to the point the pitta disintegrated....the full salad which was chosen was shredded lettuce & a few slices of onion...not the contents listed on the menu. The popcorn chicken went straight in the bin... it was deep fried hard greasy balls which im sure if consumed a trip to the dentist would have been required. We have ordered several times from this established which has-been hit & miss...so this time after another disappointing experience i decided to write this review & call it a day... Not worth the money.....not fit to eat....service delivery shocking...

Normally my favourite place for a kebab, fair enough the lamb was lovely but the chicken was burnt and dry, also the fries which are normally always lovely and crisp were like hard dry rubber, i guess they are left over from the last time they were open. Not good enough especially seeing that the prices have gone up.

Very disappointing food. The chips were dry and rubbery, to the point it was difficult to push a fork into them. The Donner meat was also very dry. I couldn't eat more than a few mouthfuls of it and the rest went in the bin. The staff were friendly though.

My first time here for a family meal (6 of us) on a Friday night. We went quite early but it did get busy later on. We all had starters and mains and were so full. Food was great, service was quick and staff very pleasant. Would definitely come back here again. They also catered for vegan members of our party.

A quick warning to anyone travelling here - Amman's appears to have closed. It closed in early 2024 and is now all locked up with mail piling up behind the door. We have been advised that it has closed for personal family reasons, but that is just hearsay. It's a pity, it was a great restaurant.

Had a meal here last night with friends. Absolutely brilliant. Staff were lovely and food superb. Nothing was too much trouble and the restaurant was spotlessly clean. Would definitely recommend.
Lynda G — Google review
We arrived on a busy Saturday night, it was so busy that despite booking we were shown to our table (for 6) which was squeezed in in the centre of the restaurant, with two seated on one end and the remaining four all down one side. Had we not said anything this is how it would have stayed, not great for conversation. Eventually we all squeezed around a four person table, so it was tight. Five starters arrived together but alas one arrived ten minutes after. We then had a quick game of musical chairs and moved to a circular table on the other side of the restaurant, which was far better; better for conversation and plenty of space. Alas our mains took a further 45 to 50 minutes, which in the greater scheme of things wasn't inconvenient as we were catching up with old friends and weren't in a hurry. The food was good, a good range of Chef's Specials and restaurant recommendations. The food was hot, very tasty but the service, well it was OK at best. They tried hard but the waiters were all young, still learning their craft. Well done to the restaurant for giving the youngsters a try but it's important not to lose sight of what experienced staff can bring to the table, quite literally. Atmosphere was OK, some guest thought he could sing and kept blurting out alcohol fueled tunes. Elton John he wasn't but at least it gave the place some atmosphere. Would we return? Maybe.

Pub
The Beartown Tap is a great pub with friendly and helpful service, good drinks and tasty food. It has darts, which is something many people may enjoy. The pub also offers live music, as well as street food vendors that rotate every few weeks. This makes it perfect for a quiet evening beer or for celebrating a special occasion.
Loved the Beartown tap last night. Lovely staff, great beers and different games on each table, which was a nice touch. There’s a lovely vibe in the pub and the background music is also excellent. The caramel stout was incredible and had bags of flavour. It also smelt incredible. Such a lovely pub with a big selection of craft beers and spirits.

Best pub in Congleton, always very welcoming and friendly, also a great rotation of a wide selection of beers at reasonable prices.

Boothroyd made a great decision to come to the Beartown Tap. No Ginger Bear but great selection of their beers. Had a super pint of Skinfull Bitter. Super bar with stairs up to a snug and a second large room. Go down to a large rear beer garden. A CAMRA Good Beer Guide 2024 bar. Six real ales and a good cider selection. Had a hoot!

Friendly Vibrant, lively venue, serving a vast array of quality beer & other alcoholic beverages. Great vibes, will definitely be visiting again. 👍🏻

Great atmosphere. Very friendly staff. We're new in the town but feel very comfortable there. Not a pub person but this place is different
Carole B — Google review
Lovely little bar/pub, independent as well. Spoke with an owner who is a lovely chap, told us a little story of this town (and bears). Decent prices, they do food pop ups. Highly recommend if you are visiting the area!

Best pub in Congleton. Lovely atmosphere, good selection on pints, different food stalls every day, and a fun selection on draft.
Robert D — Google review
Lovely friendly place with very knowledgeable staff. The beers are reasonably priced and very well looked after (as you would expect). Nice decor, they have bar games and the outdoor area is excellent. They only do food a couple of days a week though.

Chinese takeaway
Chinese restaurant
If you're on the lookout for a delightful dining experience, look no further than Beijing City. This charming eatery has quickly become a favorite among locals and visitors alike. The staff here are not only friendly but also incredibly attentive, ensuring that your order is just right. Diners rave about the Sweet & Sour King Prawn and the crispy salt and pepper chips, which are served piping hot. The generous portions of char siu chow mein have also garnered praise for their flavor-packed toppings.
Being a creature of comfort I'm not fond of change, especially after using the same Chinese takeaway for many years. Yesterday I decided to give Beijing City a try and I can honestly say I wasn't disappointed. Firstly the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, they went out of their way to help me with my order. My mother ordered the Sweet & Sour King Prawn with a side of Sesame prawns on toast. Being a fan of Duck I was recommended the Roast duck & Char Siu which I also had with a side of Sesame prawns on toast and a portion of the Chilli pepper chips. The complete order was absolutely delicious and by far the best Chinese I've had in a long time. The sesame prawn toast was the best I've ever tasted and as for the chilli pepper chips, I just have to have their recipe. I wouldn't hesitate to give 6 stars if it was possible.
Raymond T — Google review
Unfortunately didn't like the food at all, the chicken was very chewy and mostly ended up in the bin, the foo yung was 'strange tasting' and the 'noodles' in the chow mein were really vermicelli and extremely tasteless. Sorry but not to my taste at all. The food was hot though and quick delivery
Jenny L — Google review
Absolutely amazing food and service! The lady on reception was really polite and helpful. Great value for money and food was cooked quickly although they were busy ☺️☺️
Rebecca A — Google review
Best salt and pepper chips I've had, super hot and crispy when picked up. Generous toppings on the charsui chow mein. Friendly staff, recommend and would come back next time I'm in town.

Had a beef curry which was inedible, the meat was full of chewy fatty beef..very disappointed..couldn’t eat any of it..rang to inform them of this..they replied their meat is never fatty!!! We beg to differ..offered to replace tonight, we had gone past it..no replacement for another night!! Won’t be going again…

Great and polite. Very high efficiency. I am very like and enjoy the dishes of sweet and sour pork and chill pepper king pawns. 😋😋

Pub

Nestled in the heart of Congleton, The Railway Inn is a delightful spot that perfectly combines a warm atmosphere with delicious food. After enjoying a scenic ride on the Halton Miniature Railway, which winds through the Town Park, you can unwind at this charming pub. Recently refurbished, The Railway Inn boasts an inviting ambiance where families and friends gather to enjoy hearty meals without feeling rushed or overwhelmed by noise.
I’ve been twice this week with my family, the building has been refurbished and looks absolutely lovely. Staff were quick, polite and helpful and the food was delicious. We went in not expecting much just somewhere to eat but no, it’s come to be one of our go too pubs. It’s a great atmosphere, family’s of all sizes having a good time, and yet you don’t have to shout over one another to talk. It’s relaxed and just what you need for a lunch time pick me up.

We only had a bowl of chips to fill a gap before our tea! (Expecting the usual portion in a small dish). We're on a narrowboat and tea was already prepared. Will be eating a lot later than planned😂. Fab homemade chips! The full portion filled the dish to the sides!

Again the staff made us feel welcome and worked so hard. The food was just amazing good size portions, piping hot and delicious. Great menu lots of choice. Just a great place to eat

can’t fault it, bare in mind portion sizes could feed 2, great atmosphere for families or couples. The staff are so lovely too, 10/10

Refurbishment very impressive both inside and out BUT…very slow service- not sure what the management were thinking, expecting one man to wait on, serve food and run the bar. Food ok but didn’t look appealing and served on cold plates. Hygiene not the best - tested heat of milk with finger!!! Probably won’t return.

What would have once been a 5 star review is sadly now a 1 star review. On Thursday, 7th August, a group of six of us came in for a meal, something we have done regularly, and at the time we enquired about making Christmas lunch bookings. We were informed that bookings might not yet have officially opened. However, we wished to make three separate bookings, so a young waiter checked with the manager who advised that we could go ahead and do so. It appeared we may have been among the first, given how this was dealt with. The waiter was instructed to take our names and contact numbers and record them in the booking book by the manager/man who runs the pub, who clearly has absolutely no managerial skills. We asked about deposits and pre-orders and were told that someone would be in touch once the menu was finalised. We confirmed this several times, and the waiter assured us that we would indeed be contacted and that we did NOT need to pay a deposit at that current moment. A short while later, my friend, who also made one of the bookings, contacted the team and was reassured that all three bookings were noted and that menus were not yet ready but would be sent out soon. Fast forward to now: we called in to follow this up, as we had not yet heard anything. Unfortunately, we were met with extremely rude and dismissive behaviour from two of staff members, being told that: • They did not have our bookings, despite our details being written in the book. If that was the case, surely it would have been courteous to contact us, as we were explicitly told they would. On multiple occasions they have acknowledged that they saw our 3 details in the book, names and contact numbers, but were 'trying to figure out who's the writing was', rather than making contact with us to understand the situation, and deal with it in an appropriate and sympathetic way, an apology, a voucher of goodwill to retain loyal customers and sympathise with the situation, the fact that 2 families are now left with no where to go on Christmas day. • The venue has been fully booked since June, which is inconsistent with what we were told on 7th August, when bookings had supposedly not even opened yet. The tone of the conversation demonstrated a complete lack of regard for loyal, regular customers. Further to that, it was mid September whereby they posted on Facebook advising that Christmas lunch was fully booked. Following this up on Facebook Messenger, I was again greeted with the same dismissive and poor response, claiming that this error is something that they cannot be held responsible for, as we had not paid a deposit or been sent menus? I, amongst others, are baffled how a business can claim that their error and lack of care is not their responsibility, their staff, their reputation, is their responsibility. A reputation in which will be severely damaged with such poor customer service. We tried multiple times to pay a deposit, and how can we be held responsible for having not been sent menus? That is the fault and responsibility of the business. I was also advised that 'I dont know who the senior staff are because we dont have any', I fail to understand how a business can operate without senior members of staff? However that may explain why this has been so poorly managed. This whole situation falls the responsibility of the business, the initial error, the way in which it was dealt with, all of which couldn't have been handled any worse. Our family has dined here frequently, including for Christmas lunch two years ago, which we thoroughly enjoyed and highly recommended to others. It’s deeply disappointing that we have been treated in this way — not only has our booking been mishandled, but the dismissive and rude response from the team is entirely unacceptable. As a result, we will no longer be visiting this establishment and will take our custom elsewhere, where it is valued and appreciated and customers are not just seen as cash for the business.

7yrs ago is a fair amount of time and the latest refurb is as good an excuse as any for a return visit. I was pleasantly surprised with the tasteful redecoration and the pleasant staff the dining room had been busy and reserved tables where still waiting customers to arrive when I entered on an afternoon. The drinks available are the usual you'll find at these types of venues though it was nice to see they had cask beers, unfortunately my favourite tipple the mild has gone the way of many of the older drinks and can't be found in the pub's of today. I was taken aback by the friendliness of customers, one person coming out of their way to ask me for a game of pool unfortunately I had to decline as I don't play cue games. The waiting staff are very young but what an improvement on the team from 7yrs ago the French guy appears to have gone hopefully deported back to wherever. This time talk to each other and everyone knows what is happening this is great teamwork and it's nice to see young people stepping up and running the show. The food appears reasonably priced and customers that had eaten appeared to have enjoyed the experience. I'll be going back and I'll be eating but whatever view you had of the railway it's worth a revisit. Dashed in for a quick bite omg what goes on here I've no Idea but it's like hell on earth. A chatty French guy took our order after telling us our 1st & 2nd choices were off we got a burger hardly any salad, cold fries we couldn't take a mouthful without the french guy coming over to talk let's hope brexit stops anymore like him coming over. The drinks where OK especially the free ones but the locals shouting in the bar isn't conducive for an convivial meal. Shan't be going again I'd prefer to have a takeaway!

We absolutely love coming here. We booked a party for my youngests birthday yesterday. The staff were amazing, couldn't do enough for us and made it so very simple for me! The kids were all very well taken care of, unlimited juice, plenty of play time, lots of food and tailored party games! The staff went above and beyond for us and I cannot thank them enough! We had an amazing experience and will definitely be back 🥰

Kids always love it here. It’s as expected for a Wacky, a bit dated in parts but good value and fun for the children. Phillipa, on shift, was a legend today. Cheerful and calm even though she was single handed and the place was really busy

Lovely pub, was passing through the area and wanted some food. Lady showed us a quiet area outside where we could sit with the dogs, but did offer us the restaurant too but it was a sunny day so we chose outside, Drinks and food ordered via the app and came quickly by very friendly staff. Talked with a young lad about our dogs and he had a dog de Bordeaux. Brought us some puppachinos which was fantastic. Food was lovely and all the staff came out to meet the dogs and say hi. Would definitely be back again. 😊

Great place for the kids to play. The kids loved the chicken nuggets and chips, I had the all day breakfast which was good but my sausage was missing. This was quickly rectified by some very attentive staff. All in all we shall be back.

We’ve not been in a while and I will be coming back after such a fabulous experience. Maisy was great with my daughter who has SEN needs and the carvery smelt so good Im coming back to sample it. Service and friendly staff makes it 5 Stars for us.
Caroline A — Google review
Not a pleasant experience! The place wasn't clean, my granddaughter asked what was the black on the chairs, it was chipped paint. Had to ask the only attendant to mop an area of juice spilt on the floor. My husband asked for coffee but no hot water, a cold coffee was offered instead. Little supervision of children who 'controlled' the play area. The whole place was in need of refurbishment. It's a child's play area yet the toilets don't have a step stool or small toilet seat for kids. To be fair the attendant was doing her best on her own. What a contrast to Macclesfield Wacky Warehouse with trampoline option. A waste of money. We stayed half an hour which was too long!
Doline G — Google review
Sarah and her team are exceptionally friendly and will always help to correct any issues. The guy cutting the meat on Sunday was particularly rude to a whole row of guests including myself which let the pub down.

Never fails to impress. Staff are very welcoming and friendly, they go the extra mile, amazing with kids. Food was fantastic as always, different things on the menu to tempt my youngest (not easily done). The carvery was very tasty as always. I made a mistake while ordering- they kindly corrected it for me with no fuss. Would definitely be visiting again and already recommended to friends and family who have visited and equally impressed. Missing an amazing place if you don't try it out. Xx

Well what can I say about Maisy?! She was lovely and friendly. Interacted with my children when they approached her and made them feel special. I feel like there should be 2 staff members on at all times though, one to safe guard the staff but two it’s a big room that needs cleaning after a busy day but having to run to the kitchen to collect or return dishes and glasses makes the cleaning longer and harder. I do feel like the toilets need a bit of money spending on them to update them, freshen them up and make them feel cleaner. A lot of patch job repairs done which make them feel scruffy and dirty.

Went in for a Sunday carvery with my friend. Great service from Karen who had reserved us a table & made sure we had everything we needed. Food was great, lots of choice on the carvery too. Will definitely be returning soon!
Abigail C — Google review
I was here with family as we live between Scotland and England, with one member living in Cheshire, so the carvery was a good meeting and eating destination. Firstly staff were welcoming and very helpful. The food was fantastic enjoyed by all. I had to ask for thinner meat slices as the portions were very generous. All food freshly cooked and very tasty. Then we all had desert which didn't disappoint, and a good selection of drinks. We all agreed good service, great atmosphere as it gave a family time together, as we rarely gather, so it helped to make our gathering special, it was also good value for money.

Visited for a wedding meal. Pre-booked and everything was ready for us. When we arrived staff couldn't do enough for us. Made us feel very welcome. Tables for our party were reserved and set out and kids went to play in wacky warehouse. Staff were great and service was excellent. I had the mixed grill which was beautifully prepared and presented. Friendly atmosphere and very clean pub. Highly recommend to anyone including families with kids. Nothing was too much trouble. Well done Heath Farm.

We live near Cambridge and needed somewhere dog freindly for a birthday lunch with our daughter who's studying in the stafford area. After a long drive in wind and heavy rain we couldn't have asked for a better welcome. Freindly helpful staff, great menu and good choice of drinks. (The fish soup was tasty and really filling). The log fire was really appreciated too, thank you all.

Was walking past on the canal when I saw a set of stairs leading to The Queens Head. I went in and was greeted by extremely friendly and welcoming bar staff. I asked for a recommendation on ale which was given and tasted lovely. I asked the barman if they did any light bites, and he accomidated with a menu and more recommendation. I decided on the chicken wings. The portion was good for what is essentially a starter consisting of approx 8 wings in a delicious sweet and spicy sauce. All in all, I have to give the service, food, and drink 5 stars out of 5. I didn't use it myself, but I saw they have a large outside area for those looking to sun it up with a pint. I shall be returning!

1/7/2025 We went to The Queen's head for lunch with our Springer spaniel Riley, dogs are allowed in the bar but, as it was such a lovely day, we decided to dine in the beer garden which was surprisingly quiet. The menu was fairly varied with something for all tastes. We both chose the daily special which was an 8 ounce rump steak with chips and from the sauces (which included blue cheese, chilli prawns etc) we opted for the peppercorn which was one of the best I have tasted in some time. The service was speedy and friendly, the steak was pink and tender, the sauce delicious and we had a very pleasant lunch which was excellent value. Thank you.

Best Sunday dinner we have had in a long time! Me and my partner go to lots of places for Sunday dinner and The Queen’s Head tops the lot! Large sizes and the cheesy leeks/ cauliflower cheese was incredible. Staff were really attentive and looked after us throughout our stay. We shall be back and will recommend to friends and family.

Looks like a great pub to visit with a good-sized garden area. Left before having a drink as there were a couple of long disorganised queues, and someone said they had already been waiting 15 minutes. We went on a sunny day so very busy, and the young staff did appear to be trying to keep up. I felt like rolling my sleeves up to get some glasses washed
Anita T — Google review
We sat inside the restaurant and the staff were really nice. Unfortunately the place was very quiet for a Saturday night outside was also empty. The food was not good Chicken supreme was not supreme at all dry and over cooked no sauce. Few potatoes and a bit of salad ‘Very disappointing’ Steak with chips and minuscule salad, no vegetables at all. Loaded steak chips nice. The menu is on the small side and the food was average to poor. The room was sparse and unfriendly, no atmosphere at all.
