Visitor center
High Lodge is a nature lover's paradise located in the national forest. It offers a wide range of activities for visitors, including play areas, cycling and walking trails, and a tree canopy adventure course. The site features the original GoApe treetop adventure complex and a visitor center where you can hire a barbecue for a unique outdoor experience. Families can enjoy the flat mile-long High Lodge Nature Trail with various activities and information boards along the way.
Perfect place for a mid-week dog walk. Peaceful place to walk through. Despite car park being busy, we found the various trials very quiet. The cafe was well equipped with hot and cold food. The pizza and burger were both good quality and value. The cake selection was also great. Toilets were clean and well maintained too. The car park charge is fully digital which is easy enough, but charges are high.

Really lovely forest park. The kids love it here and gets them away from the screens. The facilities are first class and it also has a rather excellent cafe. Check parking before travelling but highly recommended day out for walkers or cycles. The go ape facilities are also brilliant but chargeable separately.
Miguel R — Google review
Great place, hired bikes at the store on site and the whole family loved it. Great for kids and adults, playground and adventure trails in the beautiful Thetford forest. Didn't have chance to visit the Cafe on site but looked very nice....the parking fair could be reduced a bit for people hiring bikes or visiting GOApe ( we spent over £80 on bike hire and £15 in parking fee ) but the facilities are all well kept so it is just my opinion not a criticism.
David M — Google review
What a magical place! There is so much to do! Stations, GO APE, playgrounds, Walks. The small kids and grown kids had a great time! If your looking for an active day out, this is a great and non-expensive option. We did pick up some rubbish... people, please do better! 🚮
Hannah D — Google review
We visited High Lodge today for the second time within the last month. It’s a great place, especially for kids, and well worth the cost of parking. It was a busy day, but we were still able to find a table for a simple and small birthday celebration. Although there is plenty to do without paying for the additional Go Ape activities. If you do want to participate in the Go Ape activities then I recommend booking ahead to ensure a spot. The cafe is a little expensive; however, it’s comparable to similar types of places. Also, be warned that cell service is pretty bad (even using their WiFi) and plan ahead.
Sommer L — Google review
Take my grandchild here quite regularly, lovely place for a picnic and stroll through the woods. Multiple play areas are well worth it and keep little ones occupied for hours. Cafe is a bit expensive but they do make a good coffee 😆. Also some lil extra bits to do like archery and trampolining for a reasonable price.
Vaughan W — Google review
We stopped here for lunch on a long drive. The play parks were great for all ages and offered a brilliant variety of park paraphernalia. Despite it being a bin free site there was barely any rubbish and both the parks and forest were really well maintained. Ginormous teepee slide (pictured) was a highlight for all my kids!
Andy L — Google review
Very nice Forrest! Great for picnic, birthday parties outside (when warm), cycling and walks. Plenty to do for a family. I believe to have seen bike rentals there too, and BBQ stands.

Go Ape Thetford

Outdoor activity organiser
Located in Thetford Forest, Go Ape Thetford is an adventure-lover's paradise. This treetop rope course offers two options: the daring Tree Top Challenge for thrill-seekers aged 10 and up, and the more gentle Tree Top Adventure suitable for younger children or those seeking a less intense experience. Both courses feature climbs, ropes, tree crossings, and an exhilarating zip-wire ride at the end.
What a wonderful day, we were greeted by the wonderful Josh T for our safety training brief. Josh is such a friendly happy chap who explained everything perfectly. I would also like to thank him for assisting me, when I ran out of energy whilst climbing the net. He professionally offered me vocal support ,whilst pulling me up to the platform. I'm so very grateful to him, he gave me the confidence to continue.

The Challenge Plus experience at Thetford Go Ape is absolutely fantastic! Everything from booking to arrival to completing the course was brilliant and definitely value for money! The team at Go Ape were really friendly, welcoming and helpful with all the aspects of the experience, the course itself lives up to its name with a great variety of obstacles and challenges to overcome - I’d highly recommend a pair of gloves as you’re grabbing onto rope and wires for 3hrs straight. Our instructor was really knowledgable and ensured we knew exactly how to stay safe the whole way round. Overall, I really recommend this activity and will definitely be returning soon!
Liamjkp — Google review
Aged 69, (fairly fit,) I took my 2 granddaughters aged 9 and 7 on the Treetop Adventure Plus but was not fully confident that I'd cope. I needn't have worried because the session was well-ol planned and the preparation carried out with great clarity and professionalism. We all had a totally awesome day, although I won't deny that it's physically challenging!
Elaine H — Google review
Absolutely amazing experience, went with my friend and our 2 daughters aged 10 and 13 on the treetop challenge and had such a fantastic time! Wonderful staff who took their time with the setup and the “training sessions”, we spent about 2.5-3 hours on the course. Great setup and design, it’s quite challenging and high but should be suitable for most “active kids”. We will definitely come again, highly recommended!!
Helene G — Google review
Our instructor Phil, was amazing was patient with the late people in our group then was very informative on how to ensure our safety while doing the Challenge Plus Go Ape course. We had a chuckle at his one liner jokes also which calmed nerves. Thank you Phil for showing us the ropes 😆 we had an amazing day.
Rochine C — Google review
We were incredibly lucky to have just the two of us on the Segway experience. Our instructor Evan was really knowledgeable and great fun. The trails were really laid out well and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves! Will definitely do it again!
Ceri T — Google review
From the minute we got there we were looked after. The safety equipment was put on, checked, and we were given the safety announcements. We were ready to tackle the sundowner After Dark Treetop Adventure 👌🏻 We zip lined, we tree climbed, we traversed wobbly obstacles from extreme height, we got rained on, the course was slippery, but still safe. We got muddy, we navigated Thetford Forest like true bosses in the sky It was so much fun in the dark with all the beautiful lights, Would definitely recommend! 😍 DURATION was nearly 2 hours of craziness. Downside... the parking is pricey here.. almost £10 so do budget that in.

We had a great forest Segway experience with Summer today. We were all newbies but we quickly got the hang of it & loved going around all the trails and along the paths at the end. It was so much fun. We would love to do it again & would highly recommend!

Forests
Thetford Forest is a vast natural area offering a variety of activities for visitors. With free parking available in most areas, the High Lodge Forest Centre is an exception with a daily fee. It's advisable to book parking online in advance to secure a spot. The forest is located on the border between Norfolk and Suffolk and features attractions like Go Ape, offering zip lines and rope bridges for adventure seekers. Families can also explore numerous footpaths and cycling trails throughout the woods.
This place is great fun for everyone young or seasoned. It is home to Go Ape. There are adventures for everyone to include High ropes courses, Forest Segways, Nets Adventures, Zip Trek Adventure. This park is pet and kid friendly with picnic areas and play areas. This is my second time going. It was great. There is a cafe to eat in and clean restrooms. There are many bike trails and beautiful forests to walk through.

Really take for granted the size and variety of walks around Thetford forest. Friday midday walk, we hardly saw anyone. Very peaceful.

We only went for a 2 mile walk.. Came across the River Ouse . Beautiful walk. Full of butterflies, dragonflies and were very lucky to see 10 Swans gracefully gliding up the river. Parked near Santon Downham.

What's not to like Toilets during the peak season, river walks, woodland walks, paddleboarding, fishing . Once away from the main car parks it's peaceful/quiet rarely bump in to others when off the main tracks. Yet to see these elusive Goshawk though 🤣.

The Bell Hotel, located in Thetford, Norfolk, is a charming historic wedding venue set in a 15th-century coaching inn. This enchanting hotel offers classic rooms and modern interiors for a memorable stay. Situated in the heart of Thetford, The Bell provides warm hospitality and is known for its excellent services and proximity to local attractions and restaurants.
I stayed at the Bell for 4 nights and it was a great experience. If you are looking super modern, then this is not for you. The hotel maybe old but it has character and a warm friendly feel. The thing that makes this hotel 5* is the staff. Every single person was friendly, helpful and professional. Whoever manages this team is doing a great job. Food is amazing.....plentiful and very well priced. The Steak Night on Thursday is a bargain. Breakfast, you are greeted with a smile and plentiful cooked breakfast to keep you going all day. Rooms are comfortable and practical.....with iron and ironing board, tea and coffee. Serviced daily. I would definitely come back here again.
David T — Google review
My husband & I recently stayed at the Bell for 1 night. The room was really nice, spacious & very clean. Plenty of space for clothes, hairdryer, & iron/ironing board. Bed very comfortable. Bathroom was always lovely & warm due to the heated towel rail. Plenty of room for toiletries & something I don’t always see - hooks on the back of the door for hanging clothes! Nice view of the river. Breakfast was very good & good choice. Staff friendly & helpful. Wouldn’t hesitate to stay again.
Judith F — Google review
Visited this place over the weekend with family for a wedding. Not only were the rooms damp and had a musky smell my son’s food was forgotten and then when brought out still RAW! 9 people from the wedding have now come down ill. Terrible customer service 2 people between the wedding and the main restaurant/ Bar.
Steph B — Google review
The staff are absolutely lovely. My criticism is to the hotel, not the people who work there. The rooms are a delightful trip back in time to the early (and darker) parts of 1976. Single glazing, tv the size of a postage stamp, old tired curtains, worn carpets, desperately in need of a lick of paint, dated mixer showers, and furniture that belongs on old episodes of the Antiques Roadshow. In fact, I'm sure the value of the furniture probably increased in value while I was there. Lovely building that desperately needs Greene King to spend money on it. That said, the rooms were very clean and well kept. USB sockets, wireless charging pads, flat screen 50", headboards that don't bang around every time you move slightly in bed would be a bloody good start. Again, the staff were lovely, especially Jade. Embodied the service with a smile attitude 😊
Mykl B — Google review
Rachel and her team really look after their guests, with constant banter and laughs to make your stay highly enjoyable. Fabulous food was enjoyed on every occasion, and the draft Neck Oil was excellent. I would highly recommend a visit to this gem in Thetford centre.
Richard G — Google review
We went to the restaurant and were served by Meg and Madison. They were helpful, friendly and went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. It was a lovely experience, lovely food and great value. I’d recommend this place to all Dads Army fans (the cast and crew frequented here while filming) and anyone who wants a friendly British pub atmosphere.
Naomi F — Google review
Great location . Friendly staff. Great breakfasts. Limited stock control ..2 evenings they had no availablity of our chosen meal. Poor wine stock . Its not shanrilah but its fine for⅚
Susan P — Google review
I can't really rate this venue as I didn't eat or drink here despite it being a baking hot day so I was dying for a drink and starving. The young lady behind the bar barely greeted me before leaving the room and me waiting to be served. I waited long enough before deciding I'd be fed and watered quicker elsewhere so left.

Steak house
Cheers Restaurant in Thetford offers a unique dining experience where you can cook your own steak to perfection on a hot stone. Despite some mixed reviews, the restaurant prides itself on serving modern British dishes and providing great experiences for its patrons. The menu includes options for vegetarians and those looking for alternatives to steak. While the seating area may be a bit cramped, many visitors have praised the attentive staff and delicious food.
Was mine and my partners first experience here. The food was delicious and reasonably priced, the staff (Junior/Diogo) were friendly and made sure we always had everything we needed. Would return.
Emma B — Google review
Absolutely awesome. Food and service was exceptional! Best T bone steak I have ever had! And I've had a few. Highly recommended.
Ian P — Google review
Amazing concept for a restaurant, the all you can eat hot stone steak and the unlimited sangria is a lot of fun. All the sides were tasty, friendly staff, nice outside seating area.
Luke N — Google review
Absolutely loved this restaurant! The service was impeccable, and the food was delicious! The restaurant itself was quaint and clean. There was convenient parking nearby. We were greeted as soon as we walked in the door and the food came out quickly. Overall, great experience and I would definitely recommend to everyone!
Nicole G — Google review
Went for the all you can eat set menu. The steak was delicious. Such a novelty to cook on the hot stone! Chips super crispy. Rice and beans were plentiful and the coleslaw is definitely home made. Yummy! Sangria was just right. AND the staff were attentive and interesting telling us about the provenience of the restaurant. A real treat! Thank you all! PS ignore the recent 1 star review. Rudely took a photo of us chatting with the waiter and yet was very dismissive of the staff here. Maybe fella had a bad day…
Emmeline K — Google review
We have visited Cheers Thetford on many an occasion and never been disappointed. Because of this we chose to book it for our anniversary on Tuesday just gone. The staff in that night took the meaning of service and atmosphere to a whole new level. Junior and Pedro were so intuitive, they were super friendly, welcoming and seemed to be able to read our minds. They were always one step ahead and so on top of everything. By a landslide the best experience in Cheers, or any establishment I have ever had. They made the night so special by delivering outstanding service. Cheers should be honoured to call these two their own! Fantastic lads thank you!

Stayed in Thetford and needed somewhere nice to eat and booked here we 3 others and what a great choice of was from start to finish. From the moment we arrived we were greeted by Vee and and another waitress which I didn't get her name and they couldn't of been more helpful. As it was our first time there they let us know how things work and what to expect. 3 of us had the steak on the stone and halloumi and the other had the tomahawk which was on special. Everything from the starters to the desserts was amazing and it was brilliant to try something different at this restaurant with the hot stone. Vee made sure we were always topped up with drinks and the food just kept on coming and coming until we literally couldn't eat another thing. We will be visiting Thetford again in November and we will definitely be coming back to cheers. We couldn't fault the place from start to finish 10/10 5*****

Family restaurant
Nestled in a serene setting, The Warrener is a cozy retreat that boasts an extensive menu filled with international delights, from juicy burgers to flavorful Thai curries. This charming spot pays homage to the historical practice of warrening—rabbit hunting—which was once prevalent in Suffolk's agricultural landscape. Just a short drive from Bury St Edmunds, you can explore the scenic Warreners Walk, a delightful two-mile trail winding through majestic Scots Pines and lush deciduous woods.
We stayed 2 nights in the Premier Inn next door and had breakfast and evening meals here. The breakfast was selected from a good buffet. The evening meals were excellent with plenty of choice. My favourite was the Melt in the middle Fish Pie Fishcake. It was great. All the food and drinks were good value. The staff were all very friendly. Painted in the ceilings were some great comments.
Phil W — Google review
The Warrener came highly recommended, so we were expecting much better. We booked for seven people, a mix of adults and children. Service was fine and the atmosphere was what you’d expect from a pub. Unfortunately, the food was very disappointing. Both steaks came with just three small onion rings, half a grilled tomato, a small spoonful of peas, and around 15 skinny chips — portions were poor compared to other plates at the table. The quality wasn’t much better. The chips and peas were mostly cold, and the steak (ordered rare) came out closer to medium. We mentioned our concerns to staff but nothing was done, which left us feeling ignored. We only stayed for mains and went elsewhere for dessert. Overall, a let-down and not somewhere I’d rush back to.
Andrew R — Google review
Due to staying at the Premier Inn connected to the Warrener for work; I have been dining at The Warrener frequently. All of the staff have been amazing and go to great lengths to make you feel welcome and the food is always on point. The atmosphere is good and the establishment is consistently clean and well presented. From the breakfast team to the evening meal team, they are an excellent bunch and always have the time to give you a smile and have a bit of cheerful banter. Big thanks to Sam & Bonnie for their cracking service too!

Shocking..... Dry over-cooked steak. Followed by a cold breakfast. Find another place to eat as the chefs certainly can't cook Also..... how can you mess up baking a frozen croissant? Ask these guys cos they can
Essex G — Google review
We had a table booked for 2pm to be told it wasn’t ready and sit in the VIP area. 15 mins later I had to ask if our table was ready and we had been forgotten about. Then we got told all the items unavailable Turkey, some fish items and no onion rings. Serving staff all seemed to have attitude and didn’t really want to be there. We eventually got our table at about 2.20pm. Our drinks order got taken 1st which one drink was put through incorrect. We ordered starters which took 20mins to arrive so not too bad. But when the main meals arrived the mixed grill was so over cooked, small portions and dry. Spoke to a server which really didn’t seem that bothered. But did offer to get it cooked again which it did come back better but most of the table had finished there meal by then. At no point did a server come over and ask if everything was ok. This was for a birthday meal which was spoilt by the whole experience. wish we never went and won’t be recommending.
Sara E — Google review
Went here for the Sunday roast. The food although tasty wasn't up to scratch. I'll explain, we ordered two meals from the main menu, two Sunday beef roasts and a kids gammon roast. I ordered mine with unlimited potatoes and yorkshires. What I got was a side bowl with half a dozen potatoes in it, these I put on my plate, leaving the empty bowl for all to see. Despite staff visiting the table a few times (not as a courtesy check i might add) at no point was i asked if I would like any more of the (i say again) unlimited potatoes and yorkshire pudds. The kids one turned up with the wrong meat on it, which we returned and was replaced with Gamon as ordered. One of our party wanted onion rings, to be told they don't have any. I think gravy was in short supply as there was at best a dribble on any of our plates. I over heard the waitress say to a couple that came in, at around 3pm, that there wasn't any turkey left. The deserts for £7.50 are so small, I thought they were from the kids menu. Overall not their finest day.

We went to The Warrener recently. As usual the food was delicious and the service was excellent. I have some dietary issues at the moment (hopefully temporary) and the lovely Sarah and the manager went out of their way to cater for this by adapting the menu to suit my needs. I have no hesitation in giving 5 stars for everything

Lynford Arboretum, located in Thetford Forest, is a charming destination that offers beautiful scenery throughout the year. In spring, visitors can enjoy a carpet of lovely flowers, while autumn showcases a riot of vibrant trees. The arboretum boasts notable features like a double rowed avenue of sequoias planted as a tribute to the Duke of Wellington in the 1800s. Additionally, there is a serene lake where one might catch glimpses of kingfishers.
Looks like an amazing place ! We had a short walk as I and another friend use walking sticks . All the trees have a small plaque on them saying what they are which was a good idea. There was a very nice shepherds hut cafe with seats and a huge awning for shelter .
Lyndsay P — Google review
Walking around the arboretum is lovely! The dogs love going there and there are lots of different routes to take. Parking is free and you can access the lake on the other side for water sports. Lots of the paths around are accessible, but in other places you would struggle with a wheelchair or pushchair. Great for bird spotting and there is a pair of swans nesting in the pond near the bridge
Charlie W — Google review
Beautiful arboretum with a lot of birds to watch and wildlife (if you're quiet). I did a circular walk around the lake. It's an easy route, very peaceful in early January. There's a little hut selling refreshments & bonus a large free car park.
Frederique O — Google review
I've been twice recently to Lynford and it's a lovely place - but the first time was a bit rocky... I've not walked down to the lake (left side of the road). I visited with my Mum. She's disabled and a wheelchair user (but does have a scooter on occasions). I decided we would have a little walk and a coffee at the hut on the way back from a trip out. It had disabled spaces, the parking is free and I thought that was a sign it was disabled friendly. No - it's really not. The pathways are ballast stone and are not hardcore making it extremely hard to push someone and very unsettling for the disabled individual. The trees were lovely and the walk we did (small walk to the water tower and back) was pretty. Her scooter may have been better but the arboretum side was not for wheelchair users. I visited last weekend with my children and they loved it. We walked again the same area and further on and around. It was very pretty, lots of trees to tick off in the eye spy book and it wasn't too busy for them to run around. The colours are so nice this time of year. The cafe is good - Gluten free cakes, nice tea, what's not to like!! I think overall it needs maybe a few more signs (trail signs seem to suggest routes/ view points/sculptures that are no longer there) and the pathways should be given some attention for disabled visitors.
Kate S — Google review
Fabulous, so pretty, lovely walks through the trees one side and the lake the other side ( which we will explore more next time) plenty of parking and nice cafe one site. The lost star is because it shows walks on a board but then there are no markers to keep you on track. It's all guess work. Coloured dots on trees or some posts would be a great help.
Bev B — Google review
Great free facility and fantastic to be in touch with nature. Only reason I didn't give 5 stars is that if you go off-piste and leave the path to tread into deep leaf litter, you run the risk of treading in something horrible left by a careless dog!! There's a very very good cafe on-site with luxurious chairs - well worth a visit. There are toilets.
Bentley — Google review
Lovely walks, different lengths. All sign posted. Seats and picnic tables at various locations. Small snack kiosk with a selection of hot and cold drinks. Toilet available behind the kiosk. Pushchair, pram, wheelchair friendly walks. Small sandy beaches next to the lakes. Took the mini Dachshund was a great 3 hours.

Lynford Arboretum is a beautiful and tranquil destination, often praised for its stunning collection of trees, well-maintained paths, and peaceful atmosphere. Visitors appreciate its scenic landscapes, historic features, and variety of plant species, making it an ideal spot for walking, picnicking, and nature photography. Many also enjoy the nearby Lynford Water and the arboretum’s charming woodland areas. Overall, it’s considered a lovely place to relax and connect with nature.

Grime's Graves is a hidden gem, with brown signs leading to a single track road and an uneven car park. The site features informative exhibitions, a visitor center, and a shop offering English Heritage items. Visitors can explore the Neolithic flint mine, descending 9 meters below ground. However, it's important to note that children under 7 are not allowed in the mine shaft.
Well set up exhibition going through the geology and history of the neolithic flint mines. The small museum and shop are worth a visit too. Tickets are cheaper if booked in advance.

Worth a visit on a boiling hot day....its cooler underground! Good exhibition and gift shop, friendly staff and well supervised descent to Pit 1. It's a pity the other Pits aren't accessable (underground) as well as the rest of the site is a bit thin on interest!
Murray P — Google review
Really interesting and unique site. You can go down into pit 1 via a ladder and kind of crawl into the tunnels and it's quite fun, very messy with the chalk. If you need flat land/wheelchair accessible, this isn't the place. The terrain is very rough and bumpy and to access pit 1 you need to be able to use a ladder. You would only be able to go into the exhibition room.

The site is fascinating. The staff were welcoming and knowledgeable, and they made the history of the flint mines easy to understand, even for younger visitors. Climbing down into the mine was definitely the highlight, the kids thought it was an adventure, and it gave us all a real sense of how incredible the Neolithic miners’ work must have been. The outdoor space is also great for exploring and running around, which made it a perfect balance of learning and fun.
Simply W — Google review
Plenty of parking, excellent visual display, gift shop. Staff are lovely and when you walk around the field there is some undulating ground to navigate. As well as there are toilets when you first go through the gate.

The pit was really good, fantastic set up bringing to life 4500 years of history. Nice excursion for an hour or so. The exhibition inside the centre was good too.

Staff very polite. Small shop and mini informative room available. Seen coffee on sale some mini snack. British Heritage entry free. Good parking space. Easy to find. Signs on road. Very unusual landscape. Grotto itself small. Very interesting short visual presentation. Actually worth listening to...We enjoyed walking around. Children enjoyed it.

St Helen's Picnic Site

Picnic ground
St Helen's Picnic Site is a picturesque destination nestled alongside the river, making it an excellent starting point for your adventures in the stunning Little Ouse Valley. This serene spot offers ample space for families to enjoy picnics, play, and even swim during warmer months—just remember to keep an eye on the little ones! While there are wooden tables available for a comfortable dining experience, you can also opt to spread out a blanket under the trees.
Visited this on a mild afternoon and was pleasantly surprised. The car park is Free and more than suitable for peak hot days and also the area is generally looked after. No bins. Toilet block is Permanently Closed. Picnic benches are limited but plenty of open spaces. Access to the river is wild in most places and only a few "slipways" so to speak. Either way, we will definitely be coming back with some inflatables and a swimming gear when the weather is shining 👌
Mark D — Google review
Nice walking routes, and a place for dogs to have a splash, and horse riders to cross the water! As its called a picnic site I was disappointed as there was only one table, although plenty of places to sit on the grass. Toilets are closed until summer. The entrance is narrow between 2 concrete blocks, however there where transit vans that fit through. No bins.
Alison P — Google review
“Lovely place to park if you have a car, but unfortunately our motorhome couldn’t fit through the concrete side barriers — small panel vans would manage easily. Such a shame, as we were hoping to head out on the kayak. Luckily, we found a spot up the road near the railway track. We also took quite a long detour (weight restriction on small bridge) to find this place, so a few signs beforehand would have been really helpful. I guess the barriers are there due to past issues with parking. Free to park though, and there’s a great ice cream van on site! It gets very busy with families.”
Toni C — Google review
Great place to take children for a dip in the river, kayaking or paddleboarding. Good for bringing a picnic and spending some quality outdoors time as there is also zero signal! The river was shallow at the time but we've not had a lot of rain so I can imagine it gets quite a lot higher and the current is probably a little stronger. I removed a star because the toilet block has been permanently closed and its a long walk/drive to the toilets in closer into Stanton if you have a child who needs the loo, it would be nice if the forestry commission could reinstate the loose even if its just for the busy periods.
Max D — Google review
We visited on a hot (28C) afternoon in august. Peak of summer holiday season and it was very busy. This made parking difficult, but not impossible. There was a lovely vibe amongst the families there and a lot of paddle boards and kayaks on show. There was a toilet block, but I forgot to check if it was open. Parking is free, and there are several easy places to get into the river. The day we visited there was an ice cream van, but I imagine this is only on hot busy days. Go easy on the roads as you get closer as some are very tight. We paddleboarded up the river for a bit and back again. Water was clear and cold and lots of fish to see and dragonflies. This place will probably need some more attention from the council like proper paths to the river and more well defined picnic areas otherwise the fields will get wrecked I imagine. We really enjoyed the afternoon.
Matthew C — Google review
A relaxing place to stop and have a paddle. Lots of dog walkers and the occasional horse rider bringing the horse into the water to cool down. Highland cows in nearby fields
Darren C — Google review
A really nice quieter little forest car park area with some great wildlife, no light pollution and awesome for stargazing. Can hear many different species at night time. Plenty of walks close by. Great for paddle boarding and open water swimming access via banks easily for all levels of person. Car parking here remains free, there is a width barrier in place for 2.3m vehicles roughly. You can walk to the spring nearby and a small little church. Over the river a great little campsite with facilities called poppy fields. No toilet facilities on site shut many years ago but in the village a toilet block open daily outside the foresty offices, great for cyclists to park and go off riding for the day with plenty of great routes track 23 round the corner runs all through the forest from mundford road over towards brandon, a enjoyable trail be on wheels foot or cyclist. Plenty of open space for picnik and some Peace amongst nature , the railway passes through the day but don’t be put off. A really great place to bring the kids dogs and adults for a relaxing day out in all weathers.
Dan — Google review
A beautiful little spot in the forest next to the river. Lots of walks to explore and just a mile down the path through the woods to Santon Downham, and in the other direction there are historic sites to view. Plenty of parking and places to sit and have a picnic, but just loses a mark as the toilets are no longer open here (there are some available at Santon Downham).

English Heritage - Thetford Priory is a remarkable 12th-century ruin of a Cluniac Priory located in Thetford. The extensive ruins include the great Cathedral of St Mary, the Cluniac priory, the Benedictine Nunnery of St George, and other ecclesiastical foundations.
Absolutely beautiful ruins. Worth a visit just for the photoshoot of your dog! Huge open spaces that feel very safe and enclosed so dog walkers should feel very happy. We ate a picnic in the old chapter house - please make sure to take rubbish with you as some inconsiderate people had left theirs behind! 🤬 but the daisies flowering everywhere lent this place a magical quality and the information boards were very interesting. The parking is free and there’s no cost to enter. If you’re not from the area, it is down a random back road and you’ll feel like you’re going into an odd turning but then it just appears! Lovely couple of hours spent wandering around.
James V — Google review
Free to enter and beautifully peaceful, this an extensive abbey ruin with quite a lot to see. It would be 5 stars but there is a lot of temporary fencing round large sections. Leads straight onto the river walk.
Tim S — Google review
Extensive and atmospheric ruins, partly spoiled by so many metal fences sealing some areas off. The gatehouse is not able to be visited, and the Priors Lodgings is shoeing clear signs of vandalism Why are we so bad at looking after our Heritage? The consecutive government's are not giving English Heritage enough support. People do not visit this country in their millions to look at the government's poorly built new builds As our prime minister is so fond of saying, get a grip and help out Heritage sites out, before they crumble further
Adrian P — Google review
Thetford was Founded in the early 12th century. The surviving remains include the lower walls of the church and cloister, and an almost complete 14th century gatehouse. It's ruins are very impressive covering a large area. Entrance is free and open all year round.
Eddie R — Google review
Beautiful old ruins, lots of interesting lithophytes growing in the rocks. Park on the opposite side of the road in the shopping area and go under the road via the little tunnel. Free entry.
Ben B — Google review
For me this site of ruins was great to explore. Not much interpretation, just a few boards and labels in some rooms saying cellar etc. Mainly you need your imagination and good weather to enjoy these. They cover an extensive area, There is a free car park, but no other facilities on site. You can walk into Thetford though for such things.
Nicky H — Google review
Very nice place to visit, small car park available and the site is well maintained. There are also several notice board to tell you about what your seeing. So for a free place to visit it is well worth a stop. The lost star is for the fact you can't access the old gate house as mentioned on the signs as it's through a private garden and the gate was locked. I did email both the council and English Heritage about this but both ignored me.

The Dad's Army Museum in Thetford is a delightful tribute to the beloved British TV sitcom set during World War II. The museum, located within the Old Fire Station, showcases reconstructed sets and a collection of historic artifacts, military uniforms, photographs, episode scripts, and press clippings. Visitors can explore the Church Hall, Bunker Room, and Home Guard Room before enjoying a treat at Marigolds Tea Room.
Came with my husband and 2 children aged 6 and 8. The volunteers are absolutely wonderful. Such a warm welcome and full of wonderful information. Even kept our boys entertained with dress up and finding the bear. Would highly recommend
Louise N — Google review
Visited today with our 2 children - a delightful visit! Dad’s Army has been a favourite of mine for as long as I can remember, and being able to ‘go back in time’ at the museum was brilliant. The volunteers are so helpful and friendly. Jones’ van happened to be there today, and one of the volunteers told us about the history of the van; really interesting! We stopped at the Marigold Tearoom for some cake afterwards (well recommended!). Will definitely be back, don’t panic!
Dan F — Google review
Found out about the museum recently. As a avid fan I wanted to come over and check it out. It might be small but its packed with anything and everything from cast members to filming information and locations. We definately will be coming back for a longer stay as we have enjoyed Thetford a lot and wish to spend more time here.
Kat D — Google review
I have always wanted to go here for years but finally managed it with friends. Free to enter, there are donation boxes and a gift shop and coffee shop. It was an excellent compact and bijou museum. The staff/volunteers were all very friendly and engaging. We were there for an hour or more but I didn't realise it. I spent quite a bit in the gift shop (thank you mr. Tax rebate). Fantastic day out and all the memories of the show and all the artifacts are well worth the visit. Be warned the statue of Capt. Mainwaring is by the river and the mural of Pvt. Pike is around the corner. The Charles Burrell museum halfway across the town centre has Jones van and there is a lecture/presentation. I tell you this because I asked several people and got several answers. Check opening times online. Absolutely the only reason to set foot in Thetford. Bus tours available for the filming locations. May go again next year.

I took my dad on the coach tour and it was such a wonderful day. We learned a lot about the beautiful local area as well as dad enjoying anecdotes about the show. All from a very cool vintage 50s coach. The tour ended with tea and scones back at the museum cafe and a look at the exhibition. Entirely volunteer run and they were all so lovely. They also kindly sourced vegan cake for me. Wholeheartedly recommend.

Castle Park, situated just off Castle Street, is a grassy park featuring a playground and one of the largest man-made Earthworks in East Anglia. The park offers visitors the opportunity to explore historical motte-and-bailey castle remnants while enjoying lovely views from the top. Recent renovations have enhanced the park with added fitness equipment and improved facilities, making it an ideal place for both relaxation and recreation. Visitors can also appreciate the stunning panoramic views after climbing 90 steps to reach the top.
A lot to do for children. Huge area for picnics, play area, outdoor gym or can challenge themselves and claim up the castle hill (stairs built on side). Also got very friendly sheeps there. Play area does scream for upgrade, and skateboard like activity been broken for long time now. However there's plenty of other things to do and it's a nice pit stop to have cuppa.
Inese — Google review
It is lovely space to bring kids under age of 12, or for a little outdoor gym session. Would be nice to have more benches and maybe some picnic tables. Watching grazing sheep is very nice and sunsets from actual castle hill are beautiful.
Irina M — Google review
It's a bit overgrown at the top of the steps, to see in all directions, and the short circular walk around the top couldn't be completed as one side had weeds, nettles and long grass preventing me passing it. Plenty of benches in the park to rest on. Clean toilets and baby change nearby proved useful.
Katherine T — Google review
Very nice park. Great for family to play about. Nice children’s play areas. Spacious and lots of space for different activities. That’s my mum with our last child attending fun fair on the other side. Well kept and highly recommended.
Fasakin O — Google review
The public toilet was unusable because of its unclean state. The play area was very good with lots to keep both little and big children happy.
Rachel C — Google review
Great views, well worth the climb. If I'm honest. I climbed it as a kid, many many years before the staircase was installed. But still enjoyable, probably more so. As I'm older and not as agile as I once was. I would say, we both commented, they need 4 or benches or leaning bars, instead of maybe sitting on damp grass.
Mad A — Google review
Lovely place walk and relax! The steps make it much easier to get to the top!🏞️ The park has been done up since I last visited which looks great and they've added fitness equipment💪🏻 the toilets are clean, cleaner than I expected for a public bathroom🚽 the only negative was all the bins were over full, and stupid people were dumping it on the floor next to them (and not taking it home🤦🏻‍♂️)

Absolutely brilliant breakfast. Cheap and delicious! The lady running the place was serving, cooking, making drinks all on her own and did a brilliant job of it. As someone who works in hospitality myself, I never could have done as well as her! Absolutely coming again.

What a wonderful place. We stopped here on our way for breakfast on a weekend away, liked it so much we stopped again on the way back. Great food, fantastic service. Really clean place including the toilet. Staff really friendly and helpful. What a gem 💎

We expected something , not sure what but the plate arrived and for the price was a big let down. If your American you will be disappointed at the pancakes, flat uncooked dough no rise to them. And sadly displayed like bland cold un-cooked batter. No fluffy Ness or breaded texture. Obviously the cooks never eaten proper pancakes before. This was our reason to try here. There was not instruction as staff wandered past after we sat down, do we order at the table or at the counter where food packed on. The decor need swapping for something anything other than black goth night teenager youth club style. We ate in an wished we didn't daughter was disappointed. All this for 9 quid? Nahh. Am sure thetford thinks it's great but not for me.

We'll be going back, I was impressed by the size and price of my fry up, it came with toast as well, so much nicer than the local Hungry horse or Spoons, my wife had omlette and chips and was very happy with the size and quality . Well worth a visit.

I'm only visiting Thetford for the day and stumbled across this great independent cafe. They serve a good quality cup of coffee. 100% better than Costa. I had scampi and chips. It was simple meal cooked well, very tasty and an ample portion. They have a good selection of 'Today's Specials' too.

It's been a while since I've been here but the Norfolk Kitchen Diner in Thetford is a wonderful place that has staff who put a lot of love in all the food that they make. I do remember a few times when I visited and they were always happy to have a chat when things were quiet and it just felt like a community cafe. The food though is wonderful, and it's a great portion for what you pay for, I had the all-day breakfast and I thought this was fantastic, lots of flavours and it was filling. I thought it was a bargain and I loved their milkshakes too. The next time I go to Thetford I'll be visiting here again!

Oriental Garden Chinese Restaurant offers outstanding cuisine that is incredibly enjoyable, most likely due to its remarkable freshness. The portions provided are generous and the service, while not lacking in quality, would benefit from a slight increase in speed. Although the atmosphere received a rating of 3 because of an early visit with no other patrons present, it remains clean and visually appealing. While the prices may be considered expensive, many express their desire to return due to the overall positive dining experience.
Had to review this restaurant as I was amazed with how polite the staff are and how good the food tasted, while place is also spotlessly clean - well done to you :)

We had an expensive stay at Centre Parcs and on the way home thought we would try a sit down Chinese and found this place, tbh the pictures dont flatter it but we chanced our arm and the Food was excellent portions may be small for some people , service was great, the only downside id say was the Coke and Lemonade was from 2ltr bottles and the desserts weren't great but overall it was a great find and parking free round the corner - Well worth a visit !

Restaurant
New Saffron is a family-owned restaurant located in the heart of Norfolk, offering a delectable selection of Indian and Bangladeshi cuisine. Whether you choose to dine in or take away, the menu features traditional tandoori and masala dishes alongside unique specialties like khata and korai curries. The restaurant prides itself on providing exceptional customer service, ensuring a delightful dining experience for all patrons.
Two friends and I decided to take a 45-minute drive to Thetford to sample the cuisine at the New Saffron Indian restaurant. Upon arrival, a friendly staff member warmly welcomed us and guided us to our table. The service was quick and attentive, and the food was absolutely delightful. We ordered Aloo Gobi and Madras Shobzi, accompanied by lemon rice and chapati — every dish was bursting with flavor and freshly made. The spice levels were perfectly balanced, and the portions were generous. The lemon rice added a refreshing tang that paired wonderfully with the curries. For dessert, we enjoyed coconut and chocolate ice cream. During our visit, the owner came over to greet us and share some fascinating background about his restaurant, which he originally opened seven years ago, although it has been at its current location for only two years. Highly recommended for anyone craving authentic and satisfying Indian cuisine. We’ll definitely be ordering again!

Fabulous, food Fabulous, service Fabulous. Love this restaurant, a must if you love Indian food, it is very special here, a touch of the authentic India. Very well presented, hot, and flavours are awesome. Thank you for a wonderful evening.

Stopped by Thetford for dinner on our way back to London and chose this place based on its high Google ratings. The food leans towards a milder and slightly sweeter profile, which the staff mentioned aligns with their regular customers’ preferences. Some dishes lacked seasoning, but the staff explained that they intentionally keep flavors subtle so diners can adjust them to their own taste (with table salt). This approach may work for some but might not appeal to those who prefer richer, more robust spices. Service was generally attentive, though discussions around feedback could have been handled more smoothly. The staff explained their reasoning, including that during Ramadan, chefs are unable to taste the food while cooking. While understandable, a more open approach to feedback—such as proactively offering adjustments or recommendations—could have made the experience feel more accommodating. The atmosphere was fine for a casual meal, but nothing particularly stood out. If you enjoy gentler flavors, this restaurant might be worth a visit. However, those looking for bolder, more traditional seasoning may find it underwhelming.

The best Indian food in Thetford! Could not fault the food, the service, anything. We’ve eaten here several times now & we have always had a lovely time with the best food. Sal (I think was his name) is such an attentive waiter & nothing is ever any trouble for him. All of the staff are lovely & Shipon (the owner) truly cares about his customers and the food which comes across each and every visit.

We had the pleasure of dining here whilst on Holiday this week. Our only regret is that this restaurant isn't nearer where we actually live. The food and service were impeccable. We chatted with the chef Patron - a lovely chap who's passion for the food he cooks shines through in every mouthful. A credit to his Father who ran the business before him. A true gent running a true gem of a restaurant. Cannot recommend highly enough.

Browns Café, located in a pleasant setting, received positive feedback on Google and proved to be a delightful choice. The ambiance is inviting and the staff are friendly. The food, reasonably priced, exceeded expectations. It is recommended for those in the area. Sitting on the sheltered decking provided an opportunity to observe people coming and going. This charming spot offers coffee and scones which were served warm from the oven with delectable jam and cream.
My wife and I visited Browns Cafe on 27.02.25 en route to Suffolk for a holiday, travelling with my 92 year old father in law and our border terrier. We booked a table and requested 'not near a door' due to my father in law feeling the cold and were seated as far away from the door as possible and next to a radiator. My wife and I are both vegan and had pre ordered the vegan stew which was tasty, filling and perfect. Father in law had ham, egg and chips which was excellent and ample enough that the dog got the ham he couldn't manage. Good parking, nice clean light room but the best part of the visit was the service which was outstanding, not just from one person but the whole team, looks simple when it's done as well as this but a huge amount of work and effort goes into making it so good. Highly recommended

Service was really quick and attentive, we sat outside so didn’t see too much of interior, but all looked clean and welcoming. Would definitely come back, even if it’s just for coffee.

En-route to Oxborough Hall, we stopped at Brown's for breakfast and were not disappointed. Excellent granola to start, followed by a wonderful, freshly cooked, full English breakfast. Great pot of tea. Absolutely superb and of excellent quality. Warm and friendly staff, spotlessly clean with a fast efficient service. Cannot fault it in any way.

Popped in for a breakfast with my dog and had a warm friendly welcome. Spacious and my dog got loads of fuss. Food was very good and service was amazing. Would go again especially with my dog.

Me and my friends Popped into Browns Cafe today and had a great experience! The staff were super friendly and made us feel really welcome. Service was spot on, really relaxed but attentive. The food was amazing too, everything was fresh and tasty. Just a really nice vibe overall. Definitely planning to come back soon! Thanks again 5⭐️

Popped in today as we were out and about and needed somewhere to stop for food and drink. Had my dad with me who is in a wheelchair so we double checked there was room for a wheelchair before entering. Well, staff couldn’t have been more helpful prepping the table whilst we got him in and it’s very accessible with ramps and flat floors. Staff are super friendly and helpful and food was great quality for a great price. Shame we don’t live local but if I’m in the area we definitely would go again without a doubt. Highly recommended.

The Desert Rats Memorial is a hidden gem that offers a serene escape for those exploring the area. Nestled in a tranquil forest, this memorial honors the brave soldiers of the Desert Rats Tank Regiment from World War II. Visitors can enjoy peaceful woodland walks, making it an ideal spot for dog owners and families alike.
A second world war memorial for the Desert Rats Tank Regiment, a loverly quiet place in the forest with great history and wonderful museum, unfortunately it wasn't open when I went but just check the opening times and be awestruck.
Harry S — Google review
Great memorial. I believe that you can park up and go for a walk.
Dan N — Google review
For me, it was worth a quick stop when going around the area and my dog could stretch his legs. The is parking on the 1st left as you go past the memorial and trails if you walk further down before the caravan club park. Further down in the entrance road on the left are a couple of WW2 huts as some sort of museum, but it was closed. I had a good walk with the dog and then left. It felt underappreciated considering the history of the place.
John D — Google review
We were brought here to Geocache and really thought the memorial and info boards were really interesting. The woodland walks were fun, peaceful and pram friendly.
Mark D — Google review
Great memorial 😊 I've wanted to see this for a long time now so I'm glad I've finally managed to see it
Dave G — Google review
It was closed, very small , just two Nissan huts. , not worth travelling the distance I did. But in a lovely wooded area. With the tank at the entrance I thought it would be outstanding.
Vanessa S — Google review
Good place to stop for a break in a car or motorcycle..there a smallish walking area which leads to a holiday park ..but for those interested in tanks of the British forces of the second world war .. this is a good example of one..if you visit take a look and take time to remember those who gave there lives for there country.

Good place to stop and read up on the history of Desert Rats, nice trail with signs through small part of forest.

Thetford Warren Lodge is a striking 15th-century stone towerhouse nestled in lush surroundings, originally built to accommodate hunting parties. The lodge, located two miles west of Thetford, is a two-storey structure made of flint with stone dressings. Visitors can explore the lodge daily from 9am to 5pm for free. The site has an eerie atmosphere, with stories of encounters with ghostly figures adding to its mystique.
Amazing place. Good whit children and dog friendly.
Zsuzsi K — Google review
Nice little area with a sandy carpark. The track leading in is pretty rutted and rough. No facilities or visitor centre here, visit the main Thetford Forest carpark up the road for that. The warran lodge is interesting to see and the path links to to the circular walking and cycling routes throughout the forest. You can access the "Fir" walking trail and the "long loop" of the blue graded cycling trail.
Matt G — Google review
Great little place to explore, and lovely long trails can be accessed around it. The Fir Trail leads back to High Lodge (5-6) miles away
Mark D — Google review
Nice to see such a building still standing. It survived the creation of Thetford Forest and was in use until the 1930s. Old Warrener's lodge. Beautiful built.
Rob D — Google review
Came to see James and Shed 7 here. Gorgeous forest, easy to get to and although of course we didn't see much of the forest the staff there were all super friendly and helpful and for a gig it was very clean too
Alexis N — Google review
This is quite an extraordinary place, rich in history and surrounded by an incredible forest. A great place to go for a long or short walk. I was here doing some research and a little performance. It is easy to get to and has a car park. The lodge itself is not accessible, though you can still see the inside through black metal bars. There is a legend that a large human size white rabbit guards the entrance of the doorway, with red flaming eyes. Popular with hikers and dog walkers.
Spike M — Google review
This interesting English Heritage lodge was probably built about 1400 by the prior of Our Lady’s Priory, Thetford as the home of the warrener. Free off road parking for about 20 cars and no site entrance fee. Is directly adjacent to the Thetford Golf Club. Access road and parking itself is riddled with potholes so take care. No toilets and no food/tea. Not wheelchair friendly. Great place for dog walkers BUT be aware there is more dog poo around than any other local site I have visited. Also, what's with hanging the dog poo bags on the trees - there is no dog poo fairy that makes them disappear :-( Direct access to Thetford forest. From this point the Beech walking route can accessed which is a 4.5 mile circular route and goes via High Lodge. Numerous smaller walking trails can be accessed from here. Warning: there is a tale told of a HUGE white rabbit with flaming red eyes who guards the doorway to the lodge. It is said to be an omen of death to anyone who lays eyes on it. If this review is helpful please press like.
Garth T — Google review
Warren Lodge located near Thetford Golf club. The access track has a brown sign. There is small free car park on the track. The Lodge is located short walk from the car park. The Lodge is can be viewed only from outside as there is no access to interior. No toilet facilities.

I’m terribly disappointed with the service provided by Markuza Photography for our upcoming wedding. Despite confirming the booking months in advance, they inexplicably canceled just four weeks before the big day, leaving us scrambling to find a replacement. This lack of professionalism and disregard for our special day has caused unnecessary stress and inconvenience. I cannot recommend their services to anyone in the future.

The Ancient House Museum is housed in a Grade II listed Tudor building and features interpretive displays showcasing the local history of Thetford and Breckland. The museum's collection includes exhibits on the Celtic, Roman, Viking, and modern eras, as well as replicas of the Thetford Treasure. Visitors can explore the lives of notable local residents such as Maharajah Duleep Singh and Thomas Paine through fascinating displays and artifacts.
We absolutely loved this museum - especially the linkage to India and Punjab as this house was donated to the people of Thetford by the son of Maharaja Dileep Singh. His life itself is fascinating and worthy of an entire museum so those enthusiastic about his story will find lots to love here. The museum also has rooms of nostalgia for past eras of local history and a current exhibition of Vikings. Lovely little place (max 1 hour visit) - great for all ages. Our 6 year old had a ball and won a prize for a trail. Clean loos, lovely staff. Top tip: go for the last hour of the day and it's only £2

Superb Staff are a credit to this Museum, wonderful old building and interesting displays. Visited today 05/06/2025 in the afternoon. Will be coming to Thetford on a regular basis now on the strength of the warm reception here in the main.

What a lovely place! Really friendly and helpful staff with love for what they do. Came with the kids (7&9) and they loved it!
L R — Google review
A must visit for anybody who's in or around Thetford and likes history. Some parts of the house are really well preserved dating back to the 1400's, with a large focus on the history of Maharaja Duleep Singh. Probably only takes an hour to see and read everything, think I was there 30-45 minutes.
Andrew S — Google review
Really good artefacts, displays and information. Especially liked the "timeline" display showing artefacts of each age, excellent for comparison. Also liked the kitchen as it was the same as the house we moved into in 1954!! Very friendly staff too.
Sue W — Google review
Beautiful place filled with history right in the heart of Thetford, very friendly and helpful staff.

Fascinating ,lots of sikh/Punjab stuff, Thomas paine an afterthought

Absolutely stunning, ancient house. The staff are super friendly and helpful. The building is beautifully restored and has so much atmosphere, I personally find it very calm and relaxing. Prices are very reasonable for what it is. It's a very important part of history for the local area and, the staff have a passion for the house that is very infectious. Of all the places to visit in Thetford, I would honestly recommend this.

Located in Thetford, DOUGH&co Woodfired Pizza offers a comforting Italian dining experience with its authentic wood-fired pizzas and other delectable options. The restaurant prides itself on sourcing ingredients from Italy and having them freshly prepared by Italian chefs. The menu also features pasta, flatbread, desserts, and drinks to complement the pizza selection.
The pizza was amazing!!! It was doughy and light and the mozzarella wasn't too stringy. The inside is very clean and the style of the place is industrial looking. You could even see the pizza oven. There were only two waitresses at the time and day we went (Wednesday at 19:00) however, they were fast at serving us and extremely nice/friendly. The atmosphere was good and they played music in the background. I definitely recommend this place to eat!!! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Nick — Google review
The pizza was delicious! The burgers hit the spot after an afternoon spent at the fair. It did take a bit longer to receive our food than I expected given that there were only 3 other tables of people in the whole restaurant. It took over a half hour.

The food was great, loved the pizza and the fries, the service was great as well. They were open late and let us sit down and eat at10pm, had a lovely time, will be back I ordered the bbq pulled pork flatbread. It was really good

Lovely food, Clean restaurant and good service. What more can you ask for. About time Thetford had somewhere decent to take the kids to eat. Updated. . .ordered a few times from here since and every time the pizza is very under cooked . The cheese isn't melted as if the dough was cooked then ingredients chucked on top after. Put this down to a bad experience once but this has Now happened 3 times. Changing from 5 stars to 3 Potential to be great but shouldn't be letting pizza go out so under cooked . Kids wouldn't eat the last lot we ordered.
Tim W — Google review
This place was wonderful. Very cute interior with friendly and competent staff. Wonderful atmosphere. We started with the garlic bread which was delicious. We then ordered our mains which for me was the BBQ Pulled Pork Flatbread and my partner ordered Very Spicy pizza. The bbq pulled pork was the best thing I’ve eaten in forever. The flavoring was amazing and the pork was cooked perfectly. My partner enjoyed the spicy pizza but it wasn’t as spicy as he was anticipating. We finished the night off with their doughnuts with strawberries which were absolutely delicious. 10/10 would recommend. Definitely will be going there again.
Brendi — Google review
Amazing! The food is delicious!!! The restaurant is very clean and it is such a calm and inviting atmosphere. Staff was very attentive and helpful! Loved every minute! Will definitely be back.
Ashley S — Google review
DO NOT USE We called at 5.30 to enquire delivery times and confirm delivery could be made . Order placed at 6.10pm and waited 3 hrs for a delivery of 5 cold pizzas ! 1 was raw , 1 was cremated and inedible and the other three were missing most of the ingredients. We called 3 times whilst waiting and we’re constantly lied to about where our order was . Diabolical
Shelley F — Google review
Unfortunately, I didn’t get to try the food so cannot comment on that. Ordering through the website is a mission in itself. Good luck staying patient! Don’t order online!! I had ordered take away and went to collect, upon arrival I was told that the wait would be over an hour (despite my email advising 45 min wait), therefore, an hour and 45 wait in total! A table of 4 were complaining for having to wait for 40 minutes for their drinks! I noticed many tables of customers not actually eating. Whilst standing watching the pizza chef stress out, clearly not able to cope with the orders, I decided to cancel my order but was told by the manager that she will TRY to push the order through. Try being the operative word! Whilst waiting for the manager I noticed she was now taking orders?? Did she not want to tell me if she fast tracked my Pizzas?? Or do I just stand there whilst she bought herself time?? I asked a young lady to cancel the order but was advised that as it was an online order it could not be cancelled. She directed me to another chap.. Steve (i was advised he was the Bury St Edmunds manager who was working in the Thetford branch, who was very understanding and helpful) offered to give me a credit and when I ordered next time, advised that my order of the same value plus two beverages will be given in lieu of not collecting my order today. I am hoping that Dough&Co will honour this agreement when I order next time. Steve left my ticket behind the desk in anticipation of me ordering next time….. let’s see if doesn’t get thrown away by the cleaners!

I bought half a duck tonight because I had a craving, and I wasn’t disappointed! I usually stick to the same Chinese place I’ve been going to for years, but I didn’t want to travel, so I decided to give this one a try — and I’m so glad I did. The gentleman who served me was really friendly and welcoming, and even threw in some free prawn crackers, which was such a lovely touch. The duck was absolutely delicious — tender, full of flavour, and cooked perfectly. The portion was so generous that I’ve got enough left for tomorrow and maybe even the next day, so it’s basically two or three meals for the price of one! I would definitely recommend and will be using this chinese from now on. Thankyou

Found this wonderful cafe in Thetford on a stop in our journey to Norfolk last Friday . We were welcomed and had a pannini and a prawn Marie Rose salad which were delicious. The coffee was lovely and also the breakfast tea came in a lovely pot. Very good value and an enjoyable lunch. Friendly staff too. Highly recommend.

Visited Tall Orders a couple of weeks ago, what a cosy little cafe. Staff were super friendly and very welcoming. Drinks were lovely and the cakes are to die for, excellent value for money too. Would highly recommend a visit, much better than main chains.
Simon E — Google review
I've passed this place a few times so I decided to give it a try this weekend. It was busy and we sat outside. The atmosphere was quite pleasant, if not for a person sitting a meter from us smoking a cigarette every 5 minutes. But, oh well, it can't be helped. The staff was very nice and friendly. While waiting an hour for our food, we drank our coffee. I highly recommend mocha coffee if you like sweet coffee. All day breakfast was good, but nothing special. Jacket potato with tuna was slightly sour, but I tried to told myself that it's just as it meant to be. I wouldn't complain if they served it with some butter on side and some salad dressing on top of the salad. Overall, the place is worth a visit.

Food is lovely, coffee is too tier, everyone is kind and welcoming and the atmosphere is relaxing! Great for catering to vegan alternatives and they make sure everything is cooked accordingly. Definitely recommend!

Nice cafe in the center of Thetford. The staff were friendly and helpful. Good range of vittles many of which looked homemade. My egg bap came with 🍳🍳, I only expected one. Carrot 🍰 was good and ☕ was nice. Prices were reasonable I'd be happy to return.
Terry D — Google review
Excellent quality coffee where the flat white that I ordered tastes nice and strong and also isn’t cold like in Costa or other chained coffee shops. The fried breakfast is amazing, for only £6 and you get butchers quality sausage and bacon, half the price what you pay at Thetford Garden Centre. Only thing I would amend is having bacon a little more crispy and include hash browns as standard! Other than that, lovely staff, great prices, happy to revisit, for sure.

This is probably one of the best Hungry Horse pubs I have been to - we was seen to a table for food quickly, served well at the bar for food / drink orders, and the chap going round tidying tables gave the kids some colouring bits pretty much as soon as we sat down and managed to answer my questions, and checked up on us when food came etc. Wasn't sure what to expect for food as I ordered a roast, normally get a burger from Hungry Horse - but it was very nice, and my son said the same with his kids version. The wife had a Lamb Keema Stack and there was loads of food - she couldn't finish it! The only pain was that my son likes apple juice and they ran out, and my daughter got a candy mania ice cream with her kids meal but it wasn't what she thought it would be! (I think she was expecting sweets and ice cream!) Otherwise a pretty good visit and wouldn't hesitate visiting again.

Overall experience was good. Food was fair, steak wasn't medium rare like the Wife's ( whose looked excellent ) mine was more medium well done which spoiled it a little. Chicken was lovely however. Horse shoe of onion rings isn't a horse shoe anymore... gutted! Pint was cold but kids soft drinks very shy of the top of glass. I personally don't like ordering off an app, paying for food before hand too isn't good, it takes the atmosphere and human factor out of it ( not very pub like - or restaurant to be honest ) but some places are like this now. Maybe it's the future. I'd recommend going to rhe Chase because it's generally a nice place, easily accessible with ample parking. Not expensive either. Thanks for a nice meal!

Fantastic experience at The Chase Hungry Horse, Thetford! We came in as a table of 14 to celebrate my son’s 7th birthday, and from start to finish the team were brilliant. Even though all our meals were ordered separately, every single dish arrived together, hot, and cooked perfectly — which is seriously impressive for a big group! 🍽️ The staff went above and beyond to make my son’s day special — singing happy birthday, making a big fuss of him, and adding those little touches that really make a difference. 💙 Couldn’t fault a thing — great food, great service, and a great atmosphere. Thank you for helping make his birthday one to remember! 🎉👏

We had such a lovely experience at The Chase Pub! From the moment we walked in, the manager greeted us with a warm smile, instantly making us feel welcome and comfortable. We were a large family group, and he went out of his way to help us rearrange two tables so we could all sit together comfortably – such a thoughtful touch. What really stood out was the fantastic service. Our child is a fussy eater, and the team went above and beyond to make something specially for them, even though it wasn’t on the menu. That level of care and attention meant the world to us! The food was absolutely delicious, and the portion sizes were generous too. The atmosphere was lovely – warm, relaxed, and very family-friendly. It’s rare to find a place that caters so well to families while still delivering great food and service. We’ll definitely be coming back again – thank you to the amazing team at The Chase Pub!

Been in a couple of times in the past few weeks, a lovely little pub that's well decorated throughout. A lot of thought, care and attention has gone into the pub. Staff were great and the food was impeccable and quick to come out. It shall be my new haven when escaping the office at lunch! Recommend to all.

I showed up for their Sunday carvery, which was fantastic without reservations, and they were able to serve me. I opted to sit outside and dine. The staff was fabulous, and the meal was home cooked. For their carvery, I recommend making a reservation no later than the Wednesday prior.

The Mulberry is a charming restaurant located on the edge of Thetford Forest, offering an intimate dining experience with a warm and welcoming atmosphere. It has been highly rated for its modern British cuisine with a European twist, featuring Mediterranean-style dishes and high-quality meats. The restaurant's main dining room leads to a lovely conservatory overlooking a walled garden with a mulberry tree.
Absolutely perfect place, the food is amazing and the staff are fantastic. I had only recently complained to my wife that I hadn't found a place that does a good pork chop in over a decade, I saw it on the menu and was blown away, pork chop with peaches and gorgonzola was an absolute revelation. If you are visiting the area or staying at centre parks take the time out to go and visit this place you won't be dissapointed.

One of the best restaurants in Britain! Super friendly staff who greet you with a complimentary drink and bread with oil while you're waiting for food to arrive. The ambience is very pleasant and relaxing with soft music. The menu is great and is being updated depending on the season. Highly recommend prawn starter with watermelon and feta. Cheesecake was super yummy too. No parking, but it's a 5min walk from free car park - Pike Lane. You definitely need to book a table as the staff care about great service and won't admit walk-ins if they're busy. Garden could do with some TLC, but apart from that, nothing one can possibly complain about. Can't recommend it enough:)

Another wonderful evening at the Mulberry we always make time to dine while in Thetford. Started with the calamari and the blacken prawns. The calamari were crispy sweet and tender enhanced with the lemon aioli. Prawns nicely seasoned with the perfect level of heat. On to mains, duck confit -soft fork-tender succulent meat, crisp skin and a lovely rich red wine sauce to complement. Superb presentation of rock bass with a lovely butter sauce and beautiful vegetables. All enhanced with a nice bottle Portuguese red and Karen’s attentive service. Highly recommended!

Historical landmark
Thetford Castle Mound is a historic site in Thetford, England, dating back to the 11th and 12th centuries. The castle was largely destroyed in 1173, but the impressive motte, one of the largest in England at over 12 meters tall, still stands. Referred to as Castle Hill or Military Parade as well, it offers a challenging climb with its 90 steps but rewards visitors with stunning views from the top.
Fantastic piece of greenery in the middle on Thetford with some real historical importance. If you are feeling strong you can even climb up the stairs to the top of the mound.

Legends of Motown. Band was excellent. Everyone enjoyed the music, would have been a lot better if there was space to dance. Unfortunately the tables occupied the dance floor. Although the music was good the evening was cut very short just as it was livening up by the very early finish. The band packed up and the bar shut by 9:45 which is way to early to finish a night out. A lot of money for less than 2 hours entertainment..

The town features several themed trails, such as the Heritage Trail, Dad's Army Trail, Thomas Paine Trail, and Duleep Singh Trail. While unable to visit the museum, there was an opportunity to view the Maharaja Duleep Singh Memorial Statue. However, it was disheartening to witness some teenagers disrespecting this religious symbol by smoking nearby. Amazing place!! Great for dogs! Now especially that the arrested teenagers aren't burning the forest down unlike 2019 or so. However, lot's of space for sports and fun. The only problem is that kids from Year 7 or Year 8 sit on a smelly mattress and smoke weed in the thorns and nettles probably from Pine Close because that's where the action comes from.

David P — Google review
A lovely place, considering the town it's part of. There is a large, double paying field and wild commons on both sides of the road, each with a different ecology due to spoil pH. The biggest complaint, and what spoils it, is people who think their dogs are oh so well behaved yet the dogs don't respond, AT ALL, to their master's calls and trip up joggers and small children while ignoring their master's calls to come back. Then they let their dogs mess everywhere, and I mean everywhere, and don't pick it up so community football can no longer be played and you play hopscotch to avoid it.
Ritch E — Google review
A lovely local area to walk we like to visit here with the kids as there are path ways and also our pushchair managed the bumpy track pretty well. There's car parking adjacent which is handy and located near a petrol station too. Sometimes there are sheep grazing in the fields which my youngest loves. I have 3 children ranging from 11 to 1 and they all love visiting here. As the love climbing the 'hills ' and running up and down them. The only slight negative is that some dog walkers do not double check that people are ok with unleashed dogs approaching them and I only say this as sometimes this upsets my middle and youngest. But otherwise a really lovely place to visit, especially as we don't too often meet too many people so social distancing is easy to maintain.

Much nicer experience than any other subway I've been to. It was much smarter on appearance than all others which was impressive. I was served by a very happy lady called Bevs who made it a great experience. Nice change from being served by people who's language I can't speak so usually feel bad repeating myself over and over. Bevs was cheery and polite. Tried and liked the new Honey and Oat bread. Didn't know this was a thing as subway don't seem to advertise anything new. My favourite part is that they actually had Gluten Free bread which is so hard to find in the fastfood world. My partner is a coeliac so without this gf bread she's cut off from being able to have subways, which she now really likes, or other sandwiches when we are out and about. Do find it thoughtless to not have GF bread.

Our family of two adults and two young-ish children had really lovely subs in the Eat Out To Help Out offer (August 2020). Some very friendly and helpful staff, too, who helped us when being outside in the summer sun got a little too intense, and helped us to an unoccupied table inside. They seem well organised for social distancing, etc. Very good! Edit August 2021: Not the first visit since the review above, but yet again outstanding service - simply the best I've seen in such a fast-paced place. Brilliant staff, and another lovely sub, so bumped up to 5 stars.

I had a milkshake too! Not happy with the service today. The staff clearly need training into politeness

NOT every McDonald's is the same. This was a great service and location today for meeting on way to elvedon. Served a great breakfast and the place was quiet. Loved the sofa,,loved this restaurant. 😍 I also played on sonic...#retro #nostalgic

Fresh chips due to its crowd. However, seems like the milkshake was in cup for a period of time, it turned waterly, finally my son had a diarrhea after he backed home. They should care about food hygiene.

I hate self service machines. What are the staff there paid to do if I have to use the self ordering system? The food that we got was nothing like the photos! Really poor, tasteless burger with the tiniest amount of salad, on a soggy bun that was laden with far too much mayonnaise. The cleaner pointed out how to use the promotion so we got a free apple strudel but we wouldn't have known otherwise.

Went through the drive thru at 2:00pm, one car in left lane and we pulled into the right. Complete silence for a while then told to “hang on a second” after already waiting several minutes. Eventually a different car pulls into the left lane and gets instantly served. After me (and now someone behind me) had waited over 5 minutes! Then they get the order wrong and miss off items. I understand making mistakes but this is just completely incompetent. And judging from reviews it’s common here. Train your staff to do the basics of their jobs!

Ordered food through mcdelivery yesterday,2 sauces missing from happy meal and and mozzarella dips. Also ordered 2 extra bbq dips(paid 60 pence). So in total 4 sauces missing, food stone cold. Tried to get in touch with customer service service, they can't do anything because it's mcdelivery. DO NOT ORDER!
