Sassuolo in 1 day

If you only have 1 day to spend in Sassuolo, we’ve narrowed down the top places you should check out to get the best experience of your time here.
Sassuolo is best known for its grand Baroque Palazzo Ducale, once a residence of the Este family, with frescoed halls and formal gardens that recall the town’s ducal past. The town lies in the heart of the Modena area, giving visitors access to traditional Emilia-Romagna food culture, including balsamic vinegar, cured meats and nearby Lambrusco wine production. Its ceramics district, one of Italy’s most important, adds an industrial-heritage angle, with design showrooms and contemporary architecture. Sassuolo also makes a practical base for exploring the Apennine foothills and historic cities like Modena and Reggio Emilia.
With favorites like La Filetteria 1.0, Palazzo Ducale, and Il Tartufo - Bar, Pasticceria, Rinfreschi, Specialità campane, Pasticceria salata, we’ll make sure you don’t miss out on all the must sees. We even included some of our favorite food spots around the area, like Zona Merci and Broletto 1860 so you can get the best taste of Sassuolo while you’re here. To see our full list of food recommendations, check out our best restaurants post. If you're traveling on a budget, you can check out our cheap eats post.

The Palazzo Ducale, also known as Palazzo Grande, is a well-preserved Baroque villa located in Sabbioneta, Italy. Built in 1458 and rebuilt after a fire in the 16th century, it boasts an elegant facade with frescoes, sculptures, and gardens. The palace has been used by the government since its construction and was opened to the public in the late 1990s.
They knew how to live. Interior is amazing. For 8 Euro you can enjoy a lot of arts and history. The outsides are also amazing, also the gardens. The fotos speak for themselves.

Chanced upon this place via a google search and decided to drop in. We were not disappointed! Lots of the artwork were pillaged during Napoleon's era, but the frescos and paintings on the walls and ceilings literally took our breath away with its expansiveness and beauty. Definitely worth a visit. Very quiet as it's a bit out of the way for passing tourists but if you're visiting Maranello, this place is worth a stop
JK — Google review
Only opened to the public in the late 1990s this palace has been used by government since it was built by the Duke. It airs on the imitation of the great Versailles of the time period. There are works of art on the walls & ceilings that are masterfully painted. The size of the palace and the grounds are what make this place stand out in such a small town. As this palace continues to be refurbished, its popularity will continue to grow. As in typical Italian building history, the Duke knocked down part of the old town that is now the large square entrance to the palace. All of the attendants inside are very knowledgeable about the inside works of the palace. Note: only steps to enter the upstairs and be careful not to touch anything even the outside walls of the palace.
Sylvia T — Google review
Beautiful views outside of the palace, and the inside needless to say is absolutely stunning.

Great palace, totally worth a visit. It is never too crowded.
Andrea S — Google review
I was on twelve years old when I visited this palace for the first time with my family, and I can still recall how amazed I was. Looking back after having travelled around the world, I can say that it was like having a Versailles in your back yard. Paintings and frescoes isn't everybody's cup of tea, but if you are receptive to beauty, then this place is highly recommended, together with the Ducal Palace in Modena (the one on Piazza Roma).
Gustav C — Google review
Wanted to visit for quite a long time. Thank God I did, the palace is splendid, surprisingly big and brightly painted. The ballroom and the Bacchus gallery are particularly stunning. The spaces of the palace also hosted part of the collection from Musei Civici di Modena and an exhibition of contemporary art.

We approached the Peschiera Ducale from the backside seeing the eagle symbol from the street. We walked around the backside to ward the park grounds and came upon this mysterious magnificent ruin of a structure before reaching the palace. One could only imagine what the pools, the stairs and art when this was a living space.

Extraordinary construction. The age and materials used lend to it looking as if made by dripping wet sand. We were very tempted to hop the fence and have a little walk around. Maybe next time.

If you're looking for a culinary adventure, La Filetteria 1.0 is the place to be! This restaurant offers an intriguing selection of dishes, including unique options like meat sushi and the chance to savor wagyu beef for the first time—an experience that may surprise your palate. The service here is truly exceptional, with staff members like Akile going above and beyond to ensure a memorable dining experience. His attentiveness and knowledge of the menu make every visit feel special.
If I could give 10 stars I would. This restaurant is a must if you are in the area. What can say everything was amazing from start to finish the meat was absolutely beautiful tender and succulent and tasty starters were exceptional wine was amazing especially the sweet after dinner wine’s, dessert’s are out of this world especially the chocolate fondant with mascarpone and the mint and basil sorbet was to die for , service was outstanding. This restaurant is worth every penny and yes it does cost more than your traditional trattoria or pizzeria but the quality is 10x better than that. And that is what you pay for , it only cost us a bit extra because we drank lots of wine , which was worth every penny by the way. I have read some of the other reviews like Marco and Elena’s reviews and I can honestly say that they have no clue what quality is and complaining about a few extra euros is ridiculous when the service far outweighs many other restaurants. I will definitely return next time I am in this region of Italy

(Translated by Google) The restaurant is bright and welcoming, with lots of plants and green colors. Both a la carte and table service are available. The staff is friendly and professional. We tried the tempura and loved it; the batter was very light and crispy. And the various types of sushi and rolls—we loved everything. Both the look and the taste. Highly recommended. Assolutamente consigliato

(Translated by Google) I entered IKO 2 without high expectations, but I left truly satisfied. The sushi is incredibly fresh, and you can taste the quality in every bite. The service is friendly and helpful, making you feel truly pampered. The atmosphere is elegant yet relaxed, and despite the often busy restaurants, the staff is always attentive. The portions are generous, and the menu offers a wide variety of options, from tartare to creative rolls, including hot and fusion dishes. The value for money is fair: it's not the cheapest, but the quality more than makes up for it. In short: one of the best sushi restaurants in the area, excellent for a dinner where you want to enjoy a truly satisfying experience without compromise. Sometimes you'll want to return, and this is one of those places.
