Fish and seafood restaurant
Seafood restaurant
Cafe Fish, located on the upper floor of The Pier in Tobermory, offers a charming and intimate atmosphere with driftwood beams adorned with fairy lights. This popular spot is known for its extensive menu featuring fresh seafood caught daily, including a variety of specials. Lonely Planet has recognized Cafe Fish as one of the top five restaurants in Scotland, praising its award-winning status and the freshness of its catches from its own fishing boats.
The highlight of my trip so far! Amazing fresh fish. Great atmosphere. All the staff are in their element. I’d go back just for the music. I’m buzzing with positive vibes.

A must-visit on Mull if you’re a foodie. We went for the roast shellfish platter, which is their signature dish, and loved every bite. We also got the smoked fish platter, and were really impressed. The staff were super friendly, really welcoming and kindly shared how to shell certain fish we hadn’t tried before. We both agreed this was probably the freshest fish we’d ever tried, worth every penny. We’d definitely visit again when next on Mull.
Hannah R — Google review
Best place for seafood platter we ever been in Scotland. Lovely staff too.
Manuel G — Google review
Café Fish is absolutely outstanding. From start to finish, everything was perfect — the service was quick and professional, yet the atmosphere stayed wonderfully relaxed. The food was incredibly fresh and full of flavour. I started with the mackerel pâté, which was delicious and perfectly balanced, then went for the smoked haddock mac and cheese — hands down one of the best dishes I’ve ever had. I also added the fried potatoes — crispy, golden, and utterly addictive. Everything from the quality and freshness to the speed of service and fair pricing — was spot on. An unforgettable meal and an absolute must-visit if you’re on Mull!

A fabulous meal out in Tobermory. The staff were all very friendly, communicated well and had the perfect balance of leaving you to enjoy your meal whilst making sure you were satisfied. The fish was as fresh as can be, and you could literally taste the sea. A perfect end to our holiday on the Isle of Mull - thank you to all the staff 🐟🦐

A storefront museum of the local area ran by volunteers. Touches a bit of everything. A good read to get you interested in more of the geological and historical significance of Mull.

Fascinating! Very extensive information on all sorts of things! Lots of artefacts, tales, memorabilia, and knowledge. Very well curated and all volunteer led. Very impressive. Learnt lots about the stone circles/lines on Mull, and a great map of where to find them

Fantastic compact, but really informative, free museum. Some great displays covering geography, history and cultural details. The shipwreck section was my favourite, but I liked the scotch oven the old still on display.

Great small museum. Lots of bits of history from pre-history to workd war 2. Very fascinating. Make sure you make a donation on the way out to ensure these small museums stay open.

Very interesting exhibition, lots of information about many different topics to suit different interests. The gentleman at the museum was helpful and able to answer questions
Glen K — Google review
It’s not often I leave reviews but this museum is superb. Yes, it’s tiny. But there’s an astounding amount of local information here. Geological, historical, maritime, everything from the dawn of time to the modern day. Most had been painstakingly laid out by hand in beautiful handwriting and seems to be the work of one person, a labour of love no doubt. Fascinating, we’ll put together and utterly absorbing. Superb.

They offer a variety of sandwiches, soups, pastries, cakes, and a selection of local cheeses including the famous Isle of Mull cheddar. Loved the bagel here & the coffee. Just what you need. A huge variety of pies and bakes as well on offer! Great location if you are visiting Tobermory. Affordable pricing. Only criticism is we wished they did link sausage!

What an amazing find in Tobermory. We were looking to find somewhere to eat for lunch and came across the Tobermory Bakery and Tea Room. Spoiled for choice with all the filled rolls, toasties, pies and quiches. We had a chicken, haggis and bacon pie and also a prawn Marie Rose filled roll. Both were amazing and tasty. The service was fantastic from the team. Everyone was so friendly. We had to do our cakes to take away as we were so full from lunch and they were a welcome treat after our little drive around Mull. Would highly recommend.

Popped in today for lunch. Enjoyed a really delicious Glengorm steak pie. Plenty of good quality steak filling. Highly recommend that you try these. Staff are friendly and helpful. A really nice wee place with plenty to choose from the fresh bakes.
Linda P — Google review
A variety of food offerings, in addition to coffee and tea. Small space can get crowded when the ferry disgorges large number of tourists. Was able to get a table and appreciated the cozy, homey atmosphere.
Martin D — Google review
Dont go if you have an allergy! Visited today and after trying a chicken leek and ham pie we realised it was a mushroom pie which i am allergic to. I went back and got zero apology but a replacement. Then realised they had given us another mushroom pie. I went back for a refund. I tried to speak to them to say how serious allergies are and all she said was "im not the manager" no apology and a horrible attitude. Avoid
Stacey S — Google review
Great Bakery. Nice bread, pie’s and coffee!
Robert J — Google review
The coffee was good and the cakes we excellent - chocolate tiffin and bakewell slice. Best of all, though, were the quiches - best I've ever eaten.
Marcus M — Google review
I got the soup and sandwich combo, which came out to be a little over £6. Food portions were just right (I'm too used to being overly full from American portions). The soup was really rich and flavorful, and the cheese in the toastie was really stretchy. I figured if I'm in the UK, I might as well try haggis AND blood pudding - I was not disappointed. They went well in the grilled cheese sandwich, and the acidity in salad that came with it cut through the richness. We got our food really late though, but maybe it was because the waitress was new. Overall, food was tasty, and it's a nice place to sit and chat.

Tobermory Chocolate is a unique cafe and farm shop located at The Glass Barn, SGRIOB-RUADH. They offer a variety of homemade chocolates, including hot chocolate and mocha served in the cafe, as well as a selection of handcrafted chocolates available for purchase. In addition to their chocolate offerings, the shop also features an array of home decor and souvenirs.
Great little place to sit down after a full day of exploring Mull. They do their own chocolate in house so if you're in the cafe, definitely get the hot choc or a mocha, just delicious! They also have a shop full of wonderful home made chocolates, in gift boxes or you can pick your own selection. The gift shop also has some really nice things to pick up as home decor or souvenirs.

Really good chocolate. I did the pick your own chocolate thing so I got to try a few different ones. Ice cream was a bit of an expensive let down. I heard someone say it was the best ice cream they'd ever had so I had to try it. Definitely get your ice cream from the pink building across the street.

Beautiful chocolate, great coffee and wonderful service. Nice selection to pick from if looking for a nice treat or holiday gifts to take back home (chocolate shaped like sheep and fish). Dog friendly.

Good place to call for a coffee and a sit down I don’t agree with a previous reviewers comments about the coffee. It’s fine, so much so we called again at the end of our day exploring Tobermory . There is a clean loo and 6 or 7 tables. Half of the premises is a shop that sells souvenirs and a selection of home made chocolates. These are very nice but a bit pricey but fine as treat if you are on your holidays.

Amazing wee place with loads of local sea creatures to look at, touch and learn about. Helpful and informative staff. Great displays and the place features catch-and-release for the animals so they are not doomed to a life on display. We learned a lot. Perfect for a rainier day. Appropriate for all ages including younger kids. Highly recommended.

Interesting place. Lovely to see what is beyond the shore up close. A little pricey but the kids really enjoyed holding wild creatures, and great to support pioneering local project. Staff knowledgable and friendly.

Catch and release aquarium where they only keep the creatures for 4 weeks before returning them to the sea. Full of local sea life, very interesting and well worth a visit especially if you have kids. I really enjoyed my visit, the staff were very friendly and I learned a lot

This tiny aquarium is really lovely. They have lots of local marine wildlife like crabs, langoustines, lobsters, scallops, mussels, urchins… And they’re a catch and release operation so all of these little guys are on holiday pending their return to the ocean. The lady who showed us around was brilliant, very knowledgable and friendly and with her patience our toddler eventually warmed up and handled a few starfish. A great idea for a rainy morning in Mull.

Aros Park, located in Argyll and Bute, offers a moderate 3.09 km hike that combines the Waterfalls Trail and Lochan Trail. The route passes both the Upper and Lower Falls on Aros Burn before circling the peaceful Lochan Gharrabain. Visitors can enjoy lovely forest views extending to the sea and moss-covered areas along with beautiful waterfalls perfect for resting. However, midges are common in this area.
Pretty park just outside of Tobermory proper. Lots of parking with a small fee. Several points of interest and trails. We visited for an hour in early May and the rhododendrons were amazing. Very few people there.

Great park with the walks well sign posted as there are several routes. Good and ample parking.

Lovely little garden surrounded by a lake with some friendly ducks and swans. There's plenty of benches and different plants/trees to admire. The car park is ample too.
Wayne G — Google review
Great walk from Tobermory to Aros Park. You enter right by the main parking lot of Tobermory behind the boat tour area. It was a shaded forest walk with a few stairs and inclines but so lovely. Lots of little waterfalls and then the bigger Aros waterfall was lovely. Great walk around the loch/pond as well. Bathrooms were closed when I went but they have free public bathrooms at the Tobermory parking lot.

Nice walk from the town center. Walk to the east pier and follow the stair. Easy but beautiful
Enrico B — Google review
Parked in the Aros Waterfall park. Only 100m away from the top falls. The walk to the lower falls is usually damp and can be slippery. Caution is needed. Both the upper and lower falls are a great sight. Well worth a visit. If you can manage the walk down, again worth the effort.
Derrick M — Google review
Visited in July 2021 A lovely quiet and wild hike. Not particularly taxing, but I did break a sweat. Midges did make an appearance regularly, but I managed to only get 1 bite with no repellent. Would like to return and go on some of the other trails in the area. Lovely views from the forest areas to the sea, and beautiful moss covering a lot. The waterfalls in the area are a lovely place to rest, but watch out for the Midges.

The cafe serves up freshly cooked fish and chips, with the option to enjoy your meal on their terrace overlooking the water. My mate had a delicious sandwich as we were catching the ferry. Then I spotted the wine list 😱😱😱 Mum was born in Tolaga Bay and of the x4 wines available, there is a Sav Blanc from Tokomaru Bay, which is just up the road from Tolaga!!!! Made my day, my year, my life 🤣🤣🤣

Beautiful views of Tobermory and the bay Reasonably priced Good service Delicious coffee We had a lovely time sitting outside as miraculously the rainy weather cleared and we were treated to sunshine Some of the tables were under cover so you can sit outside even if it's raining, without getting wet Fish and chips are £13.95, much cheaper than other places along the seafront

Came here in June 2021. Staff were delightful and helpful. 😊🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 Food was freshly caught in the area and made on site. We talked to one of the owners and she told us they have their own boat that goes out and catches what they cook. 🐟🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 My partner and I ordered the fist and chips, not only was the fish flakey, moist and fresh, but it also had a slight sweetness you only get from extremely fresh fish. The fish batter was closter to a tempura batter, light but crispy. But it could of done with some paper towel before serving as it did have a little extra oil left from the fryer. But the batter was not as heavy as other Brittish batters can be. The chips still had skin on them, but this did not detract from their flavour or crisp texture, no soggy chip here! Also, the tartar sauce seemed freshly made and had some lovely hand chopped pickle/gergins in it. A delight. 🍤 TIP - cut up your fish before you start eating it, the wind (almost always will be wind) will help to cool it down quicker so that you can enjoy it faster 😉. 🤩 We found out that before lockdown the ferry would bring 1000 people to the island of Mull at a time, but due to covid restrictions is been limited to 250, I say this because its a joy to have a little quite beautiful piece of Scotland all to yourself with delicious local food. Head there if you have the chance. 🧻🚽🚽🚽🚽🚽🧻 Due to covid restrictions they do not have toilet facilities, the closest public ones are on the opposite side of the town in the harbour building, about 10min walk. Keep this in mind.

I came here today and arrived at the worst possible time, i arrived in time for breakfast just a tad too early for lunch. I toyed with the idea of going for a walk and coming back for lunch. In the end, I opted for breakfast and i'm so glad I did. The lady that served me was friendly, welcomed my dogs, sorted out some water for them, service was fast, food was tasty and piping hot. Cracking view from the tables outside as well. The menu has lots of options, and the lunch menu looked great too. I'll be back.
Ian G — Google review
Avoid like the plague. The waitress is rather rude and lacks any semblance of customer service skills. We were in a group and ordered multiple breakfasts. After a few minutes we asked if we could add two portions of scones to our order only to be rudely informed that the chef is very stressed preparing our orders and any extra items will have to wait after our order is delivered. We also had kids in our group that were having a look around the cafe. The waitress again rudely informed us that either the kid or she is going to get hurt if they don't sit down. We'd had enough by this point and walked out. My friend went back into the cafe to offer to pay for the breakfasts we ordered only to be rudely told to get out and never return. Not that we ever would after such an appalling experience. If you read other reviews you'd see a pattern of rude behaviour by this waitress. If I could have given zero stars I would have. Stay well clear of this place.
Arul V — Google review
Stopped off here for a quick lunch break. Possibly the best lunchtime stop we had in Scotland. Sat outside over looking the harbour and Balamory (those who know) sorry Tobermory. Great service, great food and really good on price! Well worth going to. Don't be put off by the restaurant price list, it's a different establishment.
Philip C — Google review
Turned up for Breakfast at 9:45 knowing it opened at 10am. Staff arrived and immediately told us and another group we’d have to move as she was opening up. I said we were planning to order once open and she said “you’ll still have to move”. Utterly baffling interaction and so rude. We left immediately and won’t return. Strongly recommend avoiding this place, they don’t want or need your business.
David L — Google review
I wanted to share my experience following a recent visit to your lovely café, where I was enjoying a relaxed lunch while watching people happily jumping off the nearby pier. It was a really pleasant atmosphere, and the jumpers were clearly enjoying themselves in a safe and respectful way. I watched as they checked water depths and kept themselves to themselves and it was really great to see a wee group just happy However, the mood changed somewhat when a staff member from the café came out and quite aggressively told them that jumping was "unacceptable" and that they couldn't do it—despite there being no signs nearby to say it wasn’t allowed. That i could see anyway, nor did they In fact, they were directed to another pier that does have signs explicitly stating "No jumping", which made the whole exchange rather confusing. The interaction felt unnecessarily harsh and a bit out of place given the otherwise welcoming atmosphere. I thought it was worth bringing to your attention in case a more measured approach could be encouraged in future. A kind word to the swimmers is all thst was needed id think. Many thanks for taking the time to read this. I hope you have a better experience

Very nice curry house on the sea front. We were starving and the food was excellent. Most places had closed already so very lucky this place is open later than most. Great service and friendly team thank you. Recommended if you happen to be on the island.

I can't recommend this place enough. Very friendly staff, efficient service and absolutely amazing food. I ate there two nights in a row and if I had another night in Tobermory would've definitely gone back for a third. Very good flavours and fresh ingredients. Honestly one of the best Indian restaurants that I've been to in Scotland

Take your time when ordering, as your server will try and scam you to order everything! The food was okay, nothing special, but health and safety should actually inspect this establishment! Wouldn't go back! A £12 pizza in the mish would be far better! I could do the same food on the boat or at home better!

I was the only person in the restaurant for most of my meal though three other groups did eventually arrive. The food was reasonable and substantial and tasted good. The interior is a little gaudy and has a plastic feel.

Worst indian takeaway we have had in 30 years plus. Balti sauce appeared to be out of bottle and nan from close by coop store. Avoid, cook your own curry it will be much tastier and cheaper. Don't usually leave reviews but thought this was necessary to aid others.

We ordered a takeaway tonight. We had butter chicken tikka, passanda and naans. I was very skeptical as I really don’t like Indian food usually as I’m very funny with meat especially chicken. The food was lovely, the chicken was cooked perfectly and tasted really nice. We will definitely be returning. Very reasonably priced too.

After a 6 hour journey by motorbike all I can say is it filled a hole . The food was certainly not worth the money All I got was a curry , nan bread and poppadoms and it was £29 for just 1 person and that is without chips or rice . If I was ever in mull again I think I will bypass this place

Nestled in the charming fishing community of Tobermory on the island of Mull, The Tobermory Hotel is a family-run establishment housed in former fishermen's cottages. Guests can enjoy warm and inviting rooms along with complimentary breakfast. The hotel's Pier Cafe, located on the upper floor of the Calmac Pier, offers breathtaking views of Tobermory Bay and serves an array of fresh seafood dishes sourced from the surrounding coastal waters.
I was a bit concerned after reading some less than enthusiastic reviews of this hotel with pub. I stayed there last night and couldn't disagree more. The strongest criticism I have is that there was no washcloth. Otherwise, a quite smart and well-appointed room as large as the Marriotts in Edinburgh and Glasgow, modern bathroom, and a glorious pub/restaurant with delicious hot food, enthusiastic service, and low-volume music that accommodated pleasant conversation. Will, the manager, was clever and welcoming. Quite an enjoyable and restful overnight. Highly recommended.

When things go wrong the important thing is what we do about it. We were given Room 1 which was fine except the ensuite bathroom smelled of open drains. The hotel staff explained that this often happened during periods of heavy rain. I said a room with a horrible smell was unacceptable and they very kindly gave us Room 16 which was very nice indeed. The bar and restaurant are very good. You will be asked to book a time for breakfast so if you have a specific timetable I suggest you contact the hotel in advance of your stay. Although if you are really desperate for a specific time which they can't provide they will give you a voucher for breakfast elsewhere.

Tobermory Hotel is a great, cozy and pleasant hotel with wonderful staff and service! Located across the street from Tobermory’s picturesque waterfront and ideally located for access to this charming town. The Tobermory Restaurant is excellent and I had the most plump and delicious Langoustines last night for dinner! And a great salad with green olives! The wine choices were good as well and prices were fair. The staff is excellent and always ready to help in any way that they can! They were all good but I would like to specifically mention Sophi, Vaughan, Amy, Will and Heather! It’s a wonderful team of staff! A night or two at the Tobermory Hotel with delicious dinners and breakfast, are a relaxing treat, not to be missed!

Wonderful staff team responded promptly to messages regarding booking, very friendly, helpful and polite. (Molly, Sophie, Amy) Stunning location looking onto the harbour. Room was bright and clean, with a comfortable bed. Well stocked with provisions tea/coffee/biscuits and a lovely hamper gift set with local produce. Great attention to detail. The meals were delicious and well prepared. (Chef Petru)

Great value, amazing food, and a fantastic location too. Credit to the (genuinely) friendly staff for creating such a warm welcoming atmosphere. Very clean, very tidy room, although a little on the small side but that’s perfectly understandable given the age of the building! Regardless of size, we had a peaceful, quiet nights sleep. Plus the complimentary gift package on arrival was a lovely touch. Thoroughly enjoyable experience - thank you Tobermory Gang!

Great location and friendly, helpful staff. The restaurant is great, and breakfasts were fantastic. The room could have been more spacious and mattress a little better, but overall very comfortable, clean and well designed.

Are at the restaurant. Great service, waitress very knowledgeable about the wine. The food was exceptionally good - delicious lobster, great bass, and the best scallops we have had. An excellent restaurant and highly recommended!

This hotel allowed us to come in for breakfast with our little dog despite not being guests at the hotel. The breakfast, setting and service were all fantastic. We were disappointed that many places in Tobermory are not dog friendly but this place is and we would definitely return.

Day 2

Northwest side of town
For day 2, we recommend exploring the northwest side side of town. Start the day off with Tobermory Distillery Visitor Centre, then wind down and take it easy by the time you get to Tobermory Youth Hostel. All together, your day would be filled with about 7 hours of non-stop fun.

Visitor center
Located in the picturesque fishing port of Tobermory on the Isle of Mull, the Tobermory Distillery Visitor Centre is a must-visit destination for whisky enthusiasts. Established in 1798, it is the only distillery on the island and one of Scotland's oldest commercial distilleries.
We visited the whisky distillery on May 16th as a group of four, and it was a fantastic experience! Our guide, Kirstie, was incredibly friendly and approachable. She provided us with detailed insights into the fascinating process of how whisky is made, all in a warm and engaging manner. We thoroughly enjoyed the tour and would highly recommend it to others!
Eszter D — Google review
Visiting this distillery had been on my list for a long time, and my wife and I were delighted to finally make it. The distillery itself is not very large, but it is truly beautiful. The tour was well structured, both informative and enjoyable, and Kristy did an excellent job guiding us. On the same day, I also joined a tasting, which was exceptional and gave me the chance to try some fantastic whiskies. In addition, I took part in the warehouse experience with Olivier — an absolute highlight. He was not only very knowledgeable but also incredibly engaging, and the whiskies we tasted were unique and outstanding. If I had to mention one downside, it would be the lack of a bar where visitors could sample core range or special editions without having to join a tour or tasting.
Andrea S — Google review
The Wife and I had an amazing experience with the staff and got to try some amazing whiskies. The team treated us like family and made us feel like we were at home. The warehouse tasting is well worth the money and a lot of fun

Took the cask tour. Just 7 of us with the amazing Robert to take us through 4 cask strength whiskies from 2012 to 1996. Amazing value and a good craic to boot. Highly recommend
Dr A — Google review
Cool tour. About an hour plus 2 drams of whiskey at the end. Small distillery made it a bit more intimate than the huge distillery tours like at Jameson.
S P — Google review
Had pre booked the Warehouse 1 tasting tour at 6pm and after a small tour of distillery, we ended up in warehouse 1 with 4 straight from the barrel cask strength whiskies. 2 from Tobermory and 2 from Ledaig. All were fantastic, unique flavours and well rounded drams. Tour Guide was very knowledgeable and enthusiastic. Would definitely recommend and would do again.
Gigiguk — Google review
Definitely worth a visit! Our guide Olivier was great, our tour felt much personalised and bespoke. Great whisky!

A great visit to a fantastic distillery. We learnt a lot during our tasting, thanks to Kirsty, and had a lot of fun along the way. I forgot to mention to her at the time that Tobermory has been my favourite whisky, ever since the first drop hit my lips some 25 years ago. Keep on doing what you're doing! Many thanks.

Store
Tobermory Stores is a fantastic place to purchase tray bakes and pies, offering a delightful selection of food. The staff, namely Frances and Rachel, are friendly and helpful. It's worth mentioning Rachel's impressive skills in the kitchen. However, there have been instances where an older woman with dark hair and glasses behind the counter seemed more interested in her mobile phone than attending to customers waiting in line – an unusual behavior that stood out.
5/5 Stars – Small Shop, Big Vibes, Double Caffeine Hit Strolled into the Tobermory store thinking I’d grab a quick coffee… walked out buzzing like a bagpipe at a ceilidh after two back-to-back cups of pure caffeinated heaven. Honestly, the coffee here is so good I briefly considered pitching a tent outside just to be closer to the source. The staff? Absolutely lovely—friendly, helpful, and somehow managed to talk to me like a normal person even while I was clearly vibrating from caffeine overload. They know their stuff and are more than happy to chat beans, brews, and what blend will best launch you into orbit (in a good way). And for such a small shop, the selection is brilliant! Beans, merch, gear—you name it. It’s like Mary Poppins’ coffee cupboard: just keeps giving. You think you’ve seen everything, then bam, more cool stuff tucked into a corner like a caffeine-themed treasure chest. If you’re in Tobermory and don’t go here, you’ve made a mistake. Possibly a life-altering one. Go. Get the coffee. Maybe get two. Just don’t blame me when you start seeing sounds.

During our various stays in Tobermory, we regularly visited the Tobermory Stores. Not only do I have to mention the extremly friendly staff. Also, the surprisingly wide range of local produce and wonderful fresh pastries make it worth a visit. We are already looking forward to our visit in 2026.

Fabulous takeaway lunch today snd goid value too. Delicious soup and a gorgeous toasted sandwich, brought out to us by staff while we enjoyed the view from the bench opposite. Good quality food and great service. Thanks guys!

What a super little shop. Best coffee we had in Scotland (agree with Lee's humorous review) and lovely takeaway Scottish breakfast. Very friendly people too.

Fantastic range of local produce. We got Isle of Mull cheese, seaweed chutney and spicy seaweed sauce here... as well as fresh and handmade produce. Not really pricey either! Friendly staff service too...

Great wee store. We came here most days during our trip to mull. Good vegan take away options and oat milk latte. We also bought items for cooking while camping.
Pamela M — Google review
A gem of a shop - lovely range of organic food and eco toiletries, fresh fruit and veg, takeaway pastries, cakes and hot drinks. The people running it couldn’t be more helpful and friendly, even finding a tin opener to open the tin I’d bought.
Jeanette H — Google review
Went in this morning 09/07/25 ordered extra large latte with caramel and extra shot of espresso, a beef slice pastry hot and pork sausage roll hot, which neither were. I should point out that Mrs. Wilson was not there at the time because this is the first time I have been disappointed with usually constant high quality of service and attitude from the staff in the store. I have not finished either of the mostly cold to lukewarm snacks, and humbly apologise to Mrs. Wilson for this very untypical review of Tobermory stores which again has always been consistently excellent in my 2 months in Tobermory. The Gallery Restaurant is a charming farm shop and cafe that offers a delightful selection of home-produced goods, including cheese, Island pork, jams, biscuits, and more. The cafe serves up delicious lunches made with their own meat, cheese, bread, cakes, and chutneys. Visitors rave about the friendly service and efficient staff who keep the cafe clean and tidy.
The Gallery Restaurant and Bar is such a cool spot — it’s in a converted old church, so the space is super open and impressive. We had a mix of pizzas, pastas, and flatbreads, and everything was fresh, simple, and really delicious. You can tell they use quality ingredients, especially the locally sourced meats. We actually came back a second night because we enjoyed it so much the first time. Service was solid both nights. Just a heads-up: there’s an automatic 12% tip added, which is fine, but we would’ve tipped more! Highly recommend if you’re into great Italian food in a unique setting.
Adalina D — Google review
An absolute gem in the heart of Tobermory! This Italian restaurant is located inside a beautifully restored former church, which gives the place a unique and unforgettable atmosphere . The food is exceptional. The pizza is perfectly thin and crispy, the pasta is cooked to perfection, and the risotto is honestly some of the best. Service is equally impressive: friendly, attentive, and professional. You really feel welcomed and taken care of from the moment you walk in. If you’re in Tobermory, this place is an absolute must-visit. A little slice of Italy hidden in the Scottish Isles!

Our last night of a 2 weeks trip around the Outer and Inner Hebrides. This was the perfect place to close off a wonderful holiday. The staff at The Gallery were extremely friendly, service was excellent and attentive. The food and wine was delicious and portions sizes generous. And the setting was beautiful, really gorgeous interiors. Overall, we wish we lived closer to come back regularly!
Laura S — Google review
A very nice use of an old building, we called in during the day for a lite snack and decided to have the Carne board for 2 people. When it arrived it looked delicious, (see pic 5). However, by the time we had finished eating we almost felt a little under whelmed as if the beauty was better then the over all quality. It may have been from a long day travelling, we couldn't really put our finger on what we felt was missing but it was OK which is the only reason the food score isn't a 5. We decided to try the next night as the Mrs did find non seafood options hard to find and The Gallery has lots of alternatives to suit her. On this occasion we went for soup to start and Inverlussa mussels in white wine followed by Glenmoran beef ragu for myself, the Mrs had the Fungi & spinach Rigatoni and WOW what a difference. The mussels were beautiful, the soup was lovely. The beef was amazing and melted in my mouth and the rigatoni was fantastic. It was defiantly worth the second visit and more than made up for the previous visit. After a busy day Saturday we decided to eat here again after a visit to the Tobermory distillery and a few pints in the pub over the harbour, MacGochans chatting to some fisherman. On this occasion we had a starter and main, I had the scallops and the Mrs Minestrone soup. Again both dishes didn't disappoint with the scallops being out of this world and the soup was deep and flavoured. Plus we had a good laugh with Adam (Edgar) and Emily was great too. We went for the risotto again scampi (as unfortunately the langoustines weren't available) so I had it with scallops and the wife had a Fungi pizza. Would highly recommend a visit if you're on the Isle of Mull and we will definitely be back again ourselves.

Lovely, family-friendly restaurant in the heart of Tobermory. The menu offers a wide selection of Italian food and other dishes. Great option for those visiting Tobermory.

I visited The Gallery Bar and Restaurant in Tobermory and ordered a pizza. When it arrived, it had pesto on top, which was not listed anywhere on the menu description. I am allergic to pesto, so this was very concerning. When we raised this with the staff, they did acknowledge it and apologised, but no further action or compensation was offered. Considering the seriousness of food allergies, I would have expected a more responsible response and reassurance that this would be addressed. The atmosphere of the restaurant itself was nice, but the lack of clear allergen information and the way the situation was handled left me disappointed. This is definitely something that needs improving for the safety and confidence of future diners.
Fraser J — Google review
Ate here today and honestly wasn’t impressed. They should really ask if you want pesto smothered all over the top of your pizza – I don’t like pesto, so that was disappointing. My partner had the four cheese pizza and it was dry and lacking in flavour. We paid £50 for two pizzas and the tiniest bottle of Coke you’ll ever see, which didn’t feel worth it. On top of that, you’re forced to pay a 12% tip, which just adds to the frustration. The pizzas weren’t Neapolitan style either – they were thick, cooked in a basic oven, not a fire one. If you do go, I’d suggest skipping the pizza and trying the fish and chips instead, as this is definitely not a true Italian restaurant.
Ariana W — Google review
We had pizza for dinner and shared an antipasti platter with grilled vegetables. The location inside the old church is really cool. It was a bit chilly, even with the heaters on, but that’s just a personal feeling. The food was tasty — the Diavola pizza was really good, just a bit too cheesy for my taste. The wait between the starter and the pizza was a little long, so that could maybe be improved. Other than that, the staff were very friendly.

Nestled in a fabulous spot, Tobermory Youth Hostel offers a mix of private rooms and shared dorms, many boasting sea views. The well-equipped kitchen is an added perk for guests. Visitors have enjoyed the quirky character of the hostel and its proximity to various attractions. The friendly staff and clean facilities, including communal bathrooms, have been highlighted by guests.
Excellent location, spacious kitchen, separate lounge facing the harbor. Separate female toilet and the shower, which was nice. My dormitory only had 3 beds, which is not overcrowded, and I liked it a lot. Staff was very friendly and helpfully:)

Youth hostel was great apart from the broken window. Booking in was 5-9pm but once in the lady on reception was very helpful. Cheap and cheerful. Great pub and curry house within walking distance.

Absolutely horrendous nights sleep. Incredibly noisy with people having showers very late at night (despite signs saying not to), a VERY loud snorer somewhere, paper thin walls, and doors banging shut as people used the loo in the early hours. If I've had a worse night's sleep I can't remember it. One star because the staff were friendly, but if I could give it zero, I would. Avoid room 6 at all costs.
Stevie E — Google review
The staff are absolutely faultless. Very friendly and welcoming. Peter even hung a mirror in my room upon requesting it. Was great the room had reading lights. The location is unbeatable and the common rooms are really good and clean. Hostelling Scotland needs to renovate this property ASAP. The prices are not too low and quality of the rooms are quite bad and poor. The staff do absolutely all the can and keep it clean and cosy. But the main management should renovate and change the opening times of the reception. Check in at 3 PM latest is a industry standard.
Tessa H — Google review
Quite a nice hostel given the price and location. The bathrooms are clean and the kitchen is spacious. There are only 2 power point and 2 USB for our 5 people dorm, and it can be solved if the hostel can provide extension in the room.

The Galleon Bistro Tobermory is a popular dining spot in the town, known for its passion for showcasing the best of Mull's produce. Chef Martin Cahill creates dishes that celebrate quality Scottish ingredients. Visitors rave about their experiences, describing it as one of the best meals they've ever had. The bistro offers a diverse menu featuring delectable options such as langoustines, fillet steak, scallops, beetroot starters, salmon, and monkfish mains.
We had an amazing experience at The Galleon, as a group of 8 on holiday in Scotland it can be tricky to find somewhere to accommodate, but the Galleon surpassed all expectations and has absolutely been the highlight of the trip so far! We pre-ordered our food given our group size, but service was prompt for ordering and delivering drinks. The food was spectacular, beautifully presented and piping hot. I would return here in a heartbeat, and recommend it to anyone wanting a delicious dinner in Tobermory!

What a fantastic restaurant! The server was excellent and the food, incredible! I had the Karage chicken for a starter which was flavourful and a generous portion, and the main was the best piece of salmon I have ever had. Wouldn’t hesitate to recommend.

We had a beautiful dinner here whilst staying in Tobermory. If we had stayed another night, we would have wanted to come back!! I loved the specials boards with fresh catches of the day, and loving seafood we tried the local oysters, scallops, langoustines and salmon, as well as chicken bites which sound basic but most definitely were not! Saw another table order the steak which also looked incredible. The chef and service was amazing, a great selection of wines and whiskeys. Also loved the decor, all in all a wonderful place where we would like to return one day.

The menu changes every month I believe, I had the most exquisite lamb rump prepared perfectly. I don’t know if it’s the lamb here on Scotland, but compared to the USA this was by far more flavorful and more tender than any lamb I’ve ever eaten. Highly recommend this cozy little restaurant

Macgochans is a contemporary bar and restaurant located in Tobermory, Isle of Mull, offering a picturesque setting next to the Marine Harbour Centre. The interior features unique decor such as antler door handles and timber cladding, creating a charming ambiance. The menu showcases local produce including Glengorm beef, Inverlussa mussels, and Isle of Mull king scallops.
I went there with some friends. The food was delicious and service amazing. I ordered a gluten free burger which came with a very tasty gluten free bun, chips and coleslaw. It was absolutely delicious. There was so much on the menu to choose from and they also had a gluten/vegan chocolate orange sandwich pie. It was so good I took a bit home with me. The food came out within 20 min even though we went in right as they opened. This restaurant is obviously a well run establishment that makes sure that all their kitchen appliances are up and running for service including their gluten free fryer and foods served as described. I can't recommend this place enough. My friends also really enjoyed their meal.

The food here was great, they had a good selection and we were really impressed with the seafood freshness, portion sizes were good too. The wait staff seemed a tad flustered and maybe not enough staff we waited about 10mins on asking for the bill and ended up walking up to pay anyway but what brought the overall review down for me was adding a service charge to the overall bill. They mention that they can remove it but I felt so awkward that I just paid it. It really soured the whole experience honestly, offering an option to tip is good but automatically adding it and making customers feel guilty to pay it… don’t like that approach at all. Review would have been 5* if not for this based on food quality alone.

Just wonderful on our first visit to the Isle of Mull in Tobermory! I love it when you can sit alongside locals and tourists you know it’s good. Our service was impeccable, friendly and expedient. We enjoyed a fabulous lunch with sautéed scallops as an appetizer, the burger and chips with a children’s portion of Fish & Chips. Loved the atmosphere too on our return hope it’s not so rainy as we will take advantage of the beer garden out front. In the harbor, definitely fun and tried the local gins list too! TIL next time - thanks 🥰

Had a wonderful meal here with my son — the food was absolutely delicious and beautifully served. Nice room, decent breakfast in the morning but on our last day there our small tour group was given a bagged breakfast as we had an early ferry. Worst bagged breakfast ever! Were offered choice of sandwiches which would have been more in a choice of lunches, (took one bite and trashed it) chose a muffin rather than a pastry and got a prepackaged croissant with I’m sure has a 9 yr shelf life, chose water over pop (for breakfast!?!!) Which was given in a glass bottle…..

Went to the Restaurant for dinner. We are on holiday. I had the potatoe &,onion soup my husband had the potted crab 🦀 for our starters. We followed that with steak which came with a choice of sauces . The food was quite nice. Someone recommended the place .My soup I would call average the steak We did find chewy which we thought for £30 each should of maybe been a better rib eye everything eles as I've stated was nice . The service was not so great a male served us with a attitude we felt maybe he didn't want to be there which is sadly a off put when eating out . As we were staying on Mull for a week we feel the service made us feel we wouldn't return . Worth a try if the service was better .

Great pub nice Guinness but ran out 😭 but didn't spoil the night also had sky sports on but not too loud. Didn't have food but what I saw coming out of the kitchen looked great. Well recommend.
Mark C — Google review
Only here for the beer, which was okay. The barman pulled half my beer, charged me for the drinks and then forgot about me. I had call him over to finish serving me. No apology and no thanks. The place seems to rely on a reputation from a good few years ago, which is not really evident any more. Shame.

The friendly service and relaxed atmosphere add to the appeal of this eatery.
If you ever find yourself in Tobermory, this ace is a must! Fabulous wee cafe on the harbour of Tobermory. We ate there every day, starting our day off with a wee roll and square sausage, which was YUM, even my partner who doesn't like square sausage said it was good. I also managed to try the smoked salmon Greek salad, which was amazing and then on our last day we had to get some of the beef tacos... 🤤 these blew us away. 5 stars for food, 5 stars for service and 5 stars for location and cleanliness. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ #buylocal #buysmallbusiness #scottishtourism #travelscotland #Tobermory #IsleofMull

Wonderful burgers and friendly service! We popped in for lunch on a rather drizzly afternoon in Tobermory. The adults had burgers which were wonderful, really tasty handmade patties and delicious skin-on chips. The kids menu was nice and our boys enjoyed their sandwiches with chips and beans. It wasn't cheap but for the quality of the food it was good value. Highly recommended.

What a wonderful dinner! Stopped in Tobermory for the evening on the hunt for seafood, and were so happy to find the Scullery. Delicious food served in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. The lady working really went above and beyond. The food was very reasonably priced and very delicious. Will definitely visit again next time we're on Mull.

staff very helpful and pleasant. food portions and quality are amazing. prices reasonable, you sure get your money's worth of good food! place just needs to be bigger to fit more people lol. only downfall of this place is it's cash only. wonderful place would highly recommend.

3 of us had lunch here...we had the schnitzel, Mac cheese, and the Cullen skink. Cullen skink absolutely delicious and the nicest meal I've eaten all week! Great coffee too. Very friendly staff.

Nice, friendly place, great fish and chips. I had just fished my dad's best hat out of the bay and the cafe staff were kind enough to let him dry it on the radiator - if we come back to Mull we'll stop in again!

Avoid!! Very obvious disability discrimination from the manager of this cafe.As soon as we walked in and found an empty table the manager took one look at our disabled son and rudely barked at us that all the tables were taken. Disgusting attitude towards the family of a poor disabled boy who was hungry and wet from the rain outside. The place was empty 10 minutes later so where were all these people she wanted those empty tables for exactly?
Sam J — Google review
The breakfast came ,the bacon and sausages were grey/black...it looked to have been cooked on an uncleaned skillet or pan. The pork sausagemmeat was solid and dry and the Haggis tasted only of lard. I ate what i could and was violently sick 10 minutes after leaving. It seems the "cook" has no love of food or respect for it. Overpriced and vomit-inducing. The only positive was our server, who was a very polite and helpful young man. Would NOT reccomend this if you want to hold onto your breakfast or indeed enjoy it🙄 Not fit for man nor beast🤨

Fishing store
Tackle & Books is a charming shop located in Mull, offering a wide selection of fishing paraphernalia and an extensive collection of books on various topics. The store caters to fishing enthusiasts with everything from rods to hooks, while also providing an array of books on wildlife, foraging, cooking, Scottish life, history, and more. Visitors appreciate the friendly and helpful staff who offer local advice and assistance.
While on a family vacation to scotland, I found this little shop and grabbed a a collapsible rod and a pack of spoon lures and proceeded to catch an ocean trout and 4 mackerel on the shores of loch long. Made an awesome vacation even better!
James B — Google review
Shop has everything you need to go fishing here on Mull. The prices are reasonable too. The place (no pun) has bait too for both sea and game anglers, although I didn't see much by way of flies for trout. The staff are fab; knowledgeable about the area and where to fish. They also produce a flyer 'fantastic fishing on Mull' it's full of useful information on fresh water lochs and permits. I wish other places did the same! Bank fishing from the area around Tobermory is limited, and for sea anglers the best method other than from a boat, is float fishing from the bank, the seabed here is rocky and eats tackle, you have been warned. Well worth a visit.
Bill M — Google review
We understand shops having policies that do not allow for dogs, we always ask prior to fully entering a store if we can come in with our dog. However, responding to a question of “are dogs allowed?” with “well behaved dogs yes… so long as they don’t shake” on a day with an amber warning for rain is frustrating, completely understandable to only allow well behaved dogs, but whether a dog shakes after coming in from the rain isn’t something we can train for. It’s rubbing salt in the wound to laugh when we are honest to tell you he would probably shake in the entrance. Yes or no would have sufficed. I would have happily waited outside with our dog while my partner shopped but the rudeness deterred us. Most of Tobermory shops are not dog friendly, which is unfortunate on a very wet, windy first day of a holiday. Brown’s Tobermory were more than happy to accommodate for anyone wanting friendly service that is also dog friendly.
Alice W — Google review
A reasonable selection of fishing tackle. All suited to the surrounding area. Low prices on everything. Perhaps missing certain items in a range, such as missing floating fly lines in the fly line range, or certain types of flies missjng from fly range.

A wonderful wee shop that caters to many things, whether you like birdwatching, fishing, hiking, art, reading, or just want a few postcards. We went on two separate days, and were helped by two different people, but both were very friendly and accommodating. Had a nice chat both times :)

Fair range of tackle for an island but lacking in helpful advice on the day I visited!to get a permit.
Rob T — Google review
I loved everything about this wee shop at the end of the main street. The owner was helpful and friendly, the selection of books was almost as though she stocked her shelves just for me. Rows upon rows of books on wildlife, foraging, baking, cooking, scottish life and plant life, history, folk tales, myths... And they do sell tackle and items for all your fishing needs as well! It was very difficult not to buy more books than I did, but I absolutely loved this shop and if you love books, nature, and fishing, then this is the shop for you, too!

The Hebridean Whale and Dolphin Trust is a must-visit for nature enthusiasts. The trust offers free access to a visitor center with informative exhibits about the whales and dolphins found in the Hebrides. Visitors can also enjoy an eco shop with unique items. The trust's dedication to marine mammal conservation is evident through their educational lectures and efforts to protect these creatures in West Highland waters. Additionally, they offer opportunities for contributions, making it a worthwhile charity to support.
We were able to attend a one hour lecture covering how to spot marine mammals and also some of the biology. The speaker was a doctoral candidate, so very knowledgeable and very well able to field all questions. They also have a nice gift shop, makes for a change from the usual tourist bait. Worthwhile charity and well-worth a stop.

From being a child, orcas were always my favourite animal and held a special place in my heart. As I grew up and moved away from my inner child, my love for orcas seemed to vanish and was almost forgotten in the daily hustle and bustle of life. Then, whilst visiting the Isle of Mull, my friend and I decided to go into the Hebridean Whale and Dolphin Trust information centre where I read about the native West Coast Community of orcas. I had no idea we had our own native species of orcas! I'd always assumed they were travelling from other countries far and wide. My joy was short-lived when I read the West Coast's small pod has only 2 males left and would face certain extinction. This visit has had a profound impact on me and I want to do everything I can to help. I have signed up to make a donation every month and will be looking into other opportunities to do what I can. Thank you for all the work you do protecting our wonderful marine life.

My family and I stumbled across this wee gem, when we were trying to kill time before our ferry back to the mainland and I'm so glad we did! We were enticed in by the gorgeous shop for some last minute souvenirs but were delighted to discover it offers so much more than that. It is an absolute treasure trove of information about west coast wildlife with fantastic displays and screens and even a little playroom with fab dressing up clothes for young children. And the two staff members there that day were fantastic; engaging our two rumbunctious boys with their in-store treasure hunt and loads of interesting facts about whales and dolphins. I absolutely loved our visit there and think it is a must-visit for families on Mull and anyone interested in the conservation of sea life.

We had an absolutely wonderful visit to the Hebridean Whale Centre! This hidden gem on the Isle of Mull exceeded all our expectations. The centre offers a fantastic blend of education and entertainment, with informative displays about the whales, dolphins, and marine life that inhabit the waters around the Hebrides. The staff were incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about marine conservation, making the experience both engaging and inspiring. We loved learning about the different species we might spot on our travels around the islands and the important work being done to protect these magnificent creatures. The exhibits were well-designed and interactive, perfect for visitors of all ages but especially the hands-on kiddo stuff. The opportunity to see real footage of whales and dolphins in their natural habitat was truly breathtaking. The gift shop also had some lovely souvenirs and books about marine wildlife. If you're visiting the Isle of Mull, the Hebridean Whale Centre is an absolute must-see. It's a perfect stop whether you're a wildlife enthusiast or simply curious about the incredible marine life in Scottish waters. We left feeling more connected to the ocean and inspired to support conservation efforts. Highly recommend! 🐳

Located in a charming pink building along the seafront of Tobermory's main street, Isle of Mull Ice Cream offers a delightful selection of handmade ice creams in unique flavors. The dairy used in their ice cream comes from Sgriob-ruadh Farm, the island's only dairy farm and producer of Isle of Mull Cheese. By sourcing quality local ingredients, they create seasonal flavors that capture the essence of Mull.
Tastiest whiskey marmalade and honeycomb ice cream we had during our road trip through the highlands! A bit on the expensive side but you do get big scoops and it’s homemade with milk that comes from the Isle of Mull Cheese and Spirit farm so the quality is amazing! Do expect a queue as it’s one of the most famous spots on Mull but the staff is super quick and tbh it’s totally worth it!! You should definitely give it a try!!

Lovely little ice cream place with a great selection of interesting flavours. I had a dark chocolate ginger cheesecake cone - it was delicious, unique and excellent quality. Reasonable prices too. Many comments/reviews about high prices but I disagree, you can’t get good quality goods from a small business where product is made on site for less than the prices here (I can’t remember but think it was £3.50 single scoop)

Fisherman's Pier is a charming family-run fish and chip van nestled in the picturesque Tobermory. This delightful spot prides itself on sourcing fresh fish and shellfish directly from local boats, ensuring that every meal is as fresh as can be. The menu features classic favorites like haddock and chips, alongside unique offerings such as deep-fried haggis, Sgriob-ruadh smoked sausage, and battered scallops.
Nice spot on the pier with lovely views, not much in the way of seating on the rainy day I went but the scallops I had were absolutely outstanding. Perfectly cooked with a lovely light batter and a very large with a beautiful sweet flavour being local scallops. Would definitely recommend, 4 large scallops and the best I’ve had in quite some time.

Really good food! One of the best meals we had in our week through Scotland. I usually don't go to food trucks, but I would definitely return to this nice local one. Fresh seafood and good portions. It's nice to sit outside at the pier too taking in the views
Hilary C — Google review
This van is most definitely as good as people say, although not the largest of fish for your money. Came here at 645pm and no queue, just people sitting around the monument eating....we'll, chips of course! We ordered 'smokey meal' aka smoked sausage + chips, large haddock + chips, curry sauce and aside of fried mozzarella. Everything was superb, batter thin+crispy, fish device and the chips with some of the spud skin on were the best. Recommended
Mark W — Google review
We are not big fans of fish and chips.. but when in Tobermory one must. Great fish and chip and other fish takeaway dishes freshly prepared and we appreciated the lightly battered fish (haddock) unlike .most fish and chips in the UK which are heavily battered and oily. and the chips portions were so large we couldn't finish ours and thats unusual for us. pleasant seating outside on the pier or edge of the sea wall but no covered space if its raining.
Matthew C — Google review
This is good for tourists who would be impressed by any kind of seafood stand. But for £12 for a crab sandwich made on shop bought sliced bread with an extremely scarce filling - it’s over priced. We had a crab sandwich from a stand in another part of the island for £9 and the filling was dense and flavorful. The seafood platter was also over priced for what it was. A small amount of smoked salmon, coleslaw, a single langoustine and some pate with bits of sliced bread £15? This would not fill one person. I don’t mind paying for local seafood but this felt over priced for what it was.

If it were possible, I would leave zero stars. I ordered lemon chicken, but instead received a chicken-jelly combo dish. Expensive given what it was.The takeaway forget to pack my egg fried rice which I had paid for. And the duck in pineapple sauce had been precooked and merely warmed up ; resulting in very tough to eat meat and a glutinous sauce .Horrible

Lovely venue and great staff! Food was nice with great menu options. The mac n cheese was a let down, compared to a previous review photo from a Leigh brown, there was little to no cheese. Fantastic food, friendly atmosphere – a real gem What a great place! From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was warm and welcoming, with fantastic staff who made us feel right at home. The steak and lobster was a real highlight – perfectly cooked, full of flavour, and beautifully presented. Easily one of the best meals we’ve had in a long time. Drinks didn’t disappoint either. The margaritas were spot on, and the whisky selection was impressive – a great mix of well-known names and local gems, all served with good knowledge and friendly chat. Lovely beer and fantastic food. The best haggis I’ve ever had. A nice atmosphere with chilled music playing and no TV. Can’t recommend this place enough. The mushroom and tarragon soup was lovely too!

Cafe
Nestled in the charming village of Tobermory, An Tobar serves as a vibrant arts hub for the Scottish islands of Mull and Iona. This dynamic center offers an array of programs and facilities from March to December, showcasing local talent through art exhibitions and live music performances. Just a stone's throw away, visitors can explore the quaint RC Church of Lady, Star of the Sea, which may appear modest from the outside but boasts a stunning interior.
I had been to Tobermory many times but never explored the upper street, tye walk up the steep hill was very worthwhile as we discovered An Tobar gallery. They had an exhibition of work from the Glasgow Print Studio which was amazing. Really inventive works all with amazing views out the windows across Tobermory Bay. We didn't eat any food but were served the most delicious coffee all in a relaxed and colourful environment. The staff were also very friendly and happy to chat to us, so worth the walk up the hill.

An Tobar is a lovely cafe with a strong community vibe in Tobermory, Isle of Mull 😍 the outdoor tables have a wonderful of the coast life and boats. We had lunch there and enjoyed the delicious refreshing soup and sandwiches. The photo exhibition of a young artist was interesting. Unfortunately, we didn't stay for the music performance in the evening. Dogs are welcome and seem to be enjoying the atmosphere too 💤

Went in for a coffee and the whole experience was wonderful. Our pop-in went on for about an hour as we went around the wonderful exhibitions. How did they get a stunning selection of art work from some of Scotland’s famous modern day artists? Pop in and find out.
Chris C — Google review
Community hub with a small café. Some local art is on display and available for purchase. Hot drinks with plant milk were available; however, there were no lunch options and only three cakes on offer, none of which were vegan. Staff were friendly and apologetic, stating they had previously offered vegan cake but had difficulty sourcing ingredients locally. I did find vegan cake in much more remote locations on Mull, though. A shame—being the only veggie place on the island, I would’ve liked to support it.

If you fancy very good coffee, breathtaking view on Tobermory bay or tasty toastie with soup, this place is for you. Just a few minutes by walk from tourist area of the town center and you can get all of this.

Arrived in beautiful Tobermory...of Balamory fame..[What's the story?]...3 minutes from our holiday cottage we found An Tobar on a steep hill up from the main town. It appears to be a, sympathetically, converted very old school building combining a gallery, music venue and cafe. Very friendly and down to earth staff.... and dog friendly. All the food and cakes etc are home made, not a wide chouce though. Trying to find a word to sum it up.... Quirky!

Nice wee vegetarian cafe for lunch. Soup, toasties, sandwiches and cake. Dog friendly too and inexpensive.

Had a really nice lunch here. The menu is simple and delicious. I had sweet potato soup....nice and warming on a February day. Then I had a sandwich with chickpeas and avocado, lovely homemade coleslaw and a salad and veg crisps. There was an exhibition round the walls. Nice place. Open all year unlike many other places on the island. Prices very reasonable and the portions are generous. Yep. Go for it!

Restaurant
Hebridean Lodge, situated on the outskirts of Tobermory near Salen, is renowned for its focus on local ingredients and excellent dining experience. The restaurant, located on the mezzanine level above a gallery and shop, offers a relaxed setting to savor dishes made from produce sourced within a few miles. The menu curated by Helen showcases the best of island ingredients with steak and lobster dishes being particularly popular.
This restaurant is only open on certain days and worth booking ahead, but we could get a table a few hours before service. You feel the chef is basically cooking for you. Everything was super fresh and tasty. Order fresh local fish/crab meals. Menu changes regularly, worth checking their Facebook page

Shame about the weather, which was rather breezy and cold. That said, Tralee beach is reached via a roadway about 3/4 of a mile long opposite a free car park. A pebbly beach with the reward of clear water.

This restaurant wasn't actually open when we were there and their website wasn't working but we saw on their Facebook page that they were doing takeaway steak and haggis sandwiches so we ordered them. And boy they didn't disappoint! Delicious and well worth it.

We booked lunch for a large group in October, and Helen was fantastic at liaising with us about our menu choices. The food was delicious - fresh, tasty and beautifully presented. We enjoyed the spacious dining area and the views, and really appreciated the warm welcome of Helen and her staff. I definitely recommend eating here if you're on Mull!

Amazing service and excellent food. Sat outside in the sun drinking wine with the best mussels he had ever had (and that IS high praise) and me trying salmon for the first time (and really enjoying it). So happy to have popped in to this gem.

Island Blue Gallery offers an impressive range of stunning Mull artwork. The gallery is expertly curated and provides excellent value for money. There is a vast selection of pieces to choose from, making it hard to decide on just one. Visitors can expect to find captivating prints, such as the scenic Tobermory print, which serves as a delightful keepsake. The manager is friendly and helpful, adding to the overall positive experience. This gallery is a must-visit destination for anyone exploring Mull.
Delicious cakes and Thai curry puffs, and the people were very kind. The gallery was beautiful and we bought ourselves some gorgeous cards and prints and a few picture books. Feeling lucky that we stopped by :)

I have to credit this Gallery/ Cafe with some of the best hospitality, quality products and excellent food. Martin could not do more to please and his wife’s cooking is amazing. There are regular cafe items but also some with a Thai flavour. I rarely succumb to buying souvenirs or presents for home but I just could not resist the wildlife mugs which they will arrange to send to me. (No room in my bike) Highly recommend a visit! -Sorry, I didn’t take any photos ☹️

I stopped in for a hot drink and loved the decor, awesome collection of gifts, art, books, etc. The owners are so lovely, my bus flew by 15 minutes early and Martin drove me to catch it up! It's a condensed collection over winter but the coffee was very good and they have soya milk and vegan cake! Excellent vibe immersed in beautiful things! Look forward to visiting in summer for the full collection ☺️

Amazing selection of beautiful Mull art. We loved looking round the gallery which is really well curated. This place is brilliant value for money and has so much to offer it is difficult to pick! We chose 2 pieces but could have easily come home with more. We now have a beautiful print of Tobermory on our wall as a memento of our holiday. The manager was very friendly and helpful, a real credit to the gallery. This is a must visit for everyone holidaying on Mull.

Mull Pottery is a charming ceramics studio located in the scenic village of Tobermory on the Isle of Mull. The pottery, known for its high-fired, hand-thrown creations, draws inspiration from the stunning landscapes of Scotland's West Coast. Situated just a mile from Main Street, the small but inviting studio offers a unique selection of glazed earthenware pieces in cream and blue hues, reflecting artistic influences from the surrounding sea and shore.
For folk who love beautiful pottery to use every day this is one shop to visit. Over a year ago we bought this mug even though the shop was not open at the time. However the owner was kind enough to let us see him at work and sold us this wonderful mug that my wife drinks her coffee from every day in Florida reminding her of our wonderful stay on Mull.

Just recieved my tall mugs from Mull pottery. Just beautiful. Well packaged and arrived safely all the way to Hampshire. Thank you Rory.

On Saturday we had a disaster. Dad (89/dementia) dropped and smashed Mums (also 89) mug. She had used it every day for nearly 5 years because it had a nice big handle that her frail hands could easily hold. All day I searched everywhere for a suitable replacement with no luck. On Saturday evening I emailed Rory at Mull Pottery. By Sunday morning I had a reply and he had some in stock.🥳🥳🥳. He even sent photos to confirm they were the exact mug I needed. The next day it was paid, and shipped. By Wednesday we were back to normal again. Fantastic service, that’s very hard to find nowadays. Thanks Rory. You saved the day.

Sadly the workshop location at Baliscate is permanently closed due to the ill health of the potter. The shop in Tobermory is still open.
Nancy C — Google review
At the side of the main road from the ferries to Tobermory about a mile from Main Street. The pottery has it's own parking space for two or three cars and easy access to a few more shared car park spaces. It is fairly small inside so care is needed and bags need to be under control. The pottery is glazed earthenware style in cream and blue and it is artistically influenced by the sea and shore of the islands. Prices are reasonable and the pieces are not too large to be carried. Worth a visit if you like ceramics.

Lovely little shop for the tourists.

We visited this wonderful gem and was rewarded with the nicest mugs I own. I drink my coffee from them every morning, despite owning a beautiful collection of handmade mugs that I could choose from. I want to order a few more mugs as everyone who sees this design wants to have it for themselves.

Mull pottery does make some lovely stuff, the turquoise pattern they do does capture some of the colours of Mull - on a good day. They don't have a massive amount of stock here, but you can try the shop in tobermory high Street for more.

Rubha nan Gall Lighthouse Cottage

4.9
(17)
Self-catering accommodation
Rubha nan Gall Lighthouse Cottage offers a unique and enchanting experience for travelers seeking a getaway. The newly opened cottages are located in a rural area, with stunning views across the Sound of Mull on clear days. A 2 km walk through woodland leads to the lighthouse, offering breathtaking scenery with a sheer drop to the ocean on one side and a heather-clad bluff on the other.
A glorious house, where we had the most wonderful, relaxing week - with only the October Mull weather changing every 20 minutes to keep us on our toes! It was a fun challenge getting sufficient wine and cheese along the coastal path to the lighthouse :) but this place is more than worth the walk. And it's a beautiful walk to a beautiful spot. Alexa has done a stunning job on the restoration, so it feels like your own little slice of cosy luxury perched on the coast. From clutching my first coffee while watching an otter fishing for his breakfast to taking (very brief) morning dips in the sound, I loved our stay here. Pack your waterproofs and pay a visit!
Victoria G — Google review
We booked to stay at the cottage after walking to the lighthouse on a previous visit to Tobermory. It is by some way the best holiday cottage that we have ever stayed in - the location is stunning adjacent to the seashore and the accommodation is very well appointed with many of the original features of the cottage retained and combined with all of the facilities we needed for a most enjoyable stay. Highly recommended.
David U — Google review
Have just come back from a relaxing week in the Lighthouse cottage with my family. incredibly peaceful. The 2km walk wasnt a issue. Lots of wildlife, and we actually saw an Otter on the walk to the cottage. There are plenty of great places to eat in Tobermory, and the coop sold every thing we needed to cook at the home. Alexa was very welcoming and the cottage had everything we needed. The weather wasnt great, but thats what you should expect from a scottish holiday and was an excuse to sit in the pub opposite the harbour waiting for the rain to stop. Dont make my mistake and book the ferrys with CalMac directly. We ended up having to take a turn up and go ferry from Lochaline. There we're no problems getting on the 1st ferry both ways, and when you take into account the shorter pre arrival time, crossing time and shorter route on Mull afterwards didnt really take any longer, and the drive to Lochaline has some beautiful scenery.
Peter B — Google review
Stunning cottage in a rural location. The views across the Sound of Mull are phenomenal on a clear day. Bit of a trek along the coastal path to Tobermory, but it's worth it to spend time in such a lovely location.
Elliot K — Google review
It’s been 20 years since my last visit to Mull and my desire to return has probably lasted just as long so when I had the opportunity to visit last month I didn’t think twice. We had the good fortune to have Rubha nan Gall lighthouse keeper’s cottage as our home from home for the week and what an inspired choice that turned out to be. Recently renovated to a very high standard, Alexa has done an astounding job in creating the perfect hideaway whilst also providing an extremely comfortable base from which to explore Mull’s many charms. A big part of the cottage’s appeal was the feeling you were staying at the edge of the world. There is no road access here (there’s ample free parking in town) and the final approach is a stunning twenty minute walk from Scotland’s colour capital, the bustling hub of Tobermory. During May the coastal path is fringed with bluebells and wild garlic and there is something quite magical about heading ‘up the path’ at the end of the day as the sun sets across the water over the Ardnamurchan peninsula. Evenings outside with a cheeky bottle of red listening to the rhythms of the ocean and the chatter of oystercatchers under a pastel sky is just one of the memories I will take away from this island paradise. Do yourself a favour - just visit!

I have been to Mull a few times recently and really love it. I’ve previously stayed in Tobermory, so it was really exciting change to be able to stay at the newly opened Rubha Nan Gall Lighthouse Cottages, and what a truly amazing experience it was. It’s the perfect place to get away from it all, with it’s own fairytale footpath from Tobermory. The cottages are ideal for those who travel light and love to take walks with such amazing views and fascinating wildlife too. The walk to the Lighthouse is a surprisingly popular tourist activity in itself during the daylight hours. At night the cottages are wonderfully isolated and incredibly peaceful. The cottages have been refurbished to an exceptionally high standard with the perfect mix of modern and original features. Each bedroom has en-suite facilities which a major bonus, with amazingly comfortable beds too. The ’signature’ room has the most incredible views over the lighthouse and the Sound of Mull which is just an unbelievable way to wake up if you are able to bag that room! The kitchen has just about all the equipment you might need, from toaster to dishwasher, and is a lovely rustic place to share a meal and talk of the day's adventures. The sitting room is wonderfully cosy and on the rare occasion that Scotland is on the cool side the open fire is a must. Some great environmentally friendly touches have been incorporated too (such as it’s own supply of spring water, solar panels to charge the generator, environmentally friendly toiletries provided etc.) which are a major feature of these beautiful cottages for the environmentally conscious. On the other hand the Wifi works great throughout the property, whilst you may have to go for a little walk to get a mobile signal (mine worked about 50 yards away!) so you can even get away from your mobile for a few hours. I could go on for pages about these wonderful cottages, as I had such a truly unforgettable experience there. If you are looking for a little slice of perfection and a chance to get away from it all then go to Rubha Nan Gall Lighthouse Cottages, I am sure you too will have an unforgettable experience. I will be back every chance I get.

Fish & chips restaurant
HOOK'D is a hidden gem that serves vegan fish and chips in a remote location. Their generous portions of delicious chips accompany their tasty vegan fish, made from pea protein. It's a pleasant surprise to find such an establishment in this area. While they don't receive the highest rating due to animal rights activists only giving 5 stars to 100% vegan places, HOOK'D still impresses with their fresh and flavorsome food.
Had 2 fish suppers and some langoustines with chips. The butter from the langoustines got into the chips and was delicious. Recommend having an oyster with the seaweed hot sauce while you’re waiting
David L — Google review
Nice fish and chips, not the best but definitely above average. The fish was cooked very well and the chips were tasty. The batter could be improved and become more refined, other than that we thoroughly enjoyed this classic dish. Really lovely service, they ran out of curry sauce so gave us some tartar sauce for free. Also, there are vegan and gluten free options!
TheEagerDiner — Google review
Stopped by HOOK’ D in Tobermory for some classic fish and chips. The haddock was nicely done – light, crispy batter and perfectly flaky fish, which really hit the spot. However, the chips were a bit of a letdown, coming out slightly underdone and lacking that satisfying crunch and flavor you’d hope for. That said, the staff were genuinely friendly and welcoming, which made the experience pleasant. The location is great, right on the waterfront, perfect for soaking in those harbor views while you eat. Overall, a decent spot for fish and chips, but a bit more care on the chips would make it a standout.
Daniel T — Google review
Sadly a poor fish super, I went for the jumbo haddock, I was disappointed to receive 2 small fillets rather than a nice large single fillet as you’d expect from the description, frozen fish at best. The batter was crispy on the top, soggy on the bottom. Chips were average and the tartare sauce lacked flavour and punch.
P S — Google review
Really surprised by all the 5 star reviews. We stopped by on the 25/10/25 for 2 haddock suppers. Fish was awful, what we were served WAS NOT haddock and was not fresh fish. Been in a freezer for months, if not years. The chips were a waxy tattie, not good for chips, and everything was so greasy, that oil ran out of the boxes all over our clothes. The flesh of the fish was yellow, and one was brown on one side, with a narrow flake pattern more resembling a skate or plaice. With the brown sided fillets running in three directions. Not at all like the clean white big flakes of haddock expected. The batter wasn't cooked on the inside either, still raw and mushy. If we hadn't driven the 11 miles on the single track road back to our campsite at Pennygown to eat, I'd have went back and asked for a refund. Awful fish and chips, and would not recommend. You'd be wasting your money. No way value for money at £12.50 each.
Alistair S — Google review
I vow never to eat fish and chips from a restaurant ever again. I have just eaten an extra large haddock supper from hook’s in Tobermory and it was absolutely delicious. The fish was cooked to perfection and was so obviously fresh the flesh just fell apart and the batter was crisp and not too thick. The chips were equally on par with the fish. All served up by friendly staff at a very busy 6:45pm. Excellent! If you’re ever on Mull give it a go. P.S. They only take cash

Visitors have praised the well-appointed rooms, friendly staff, and the recently remodeled accommodations with fresh linens and modern bathrooms. The attached pub/restaurant serves a variety of breakfast options including a continental buffet and made-to-order cooked meals. Additionally, there is an outdoor seating area for guests to relax in.
Very nice little hotel overlooking Tobermory. The rooms were well equipped and quiet. All of the staff were very friendly and helpful. While there, we used the bar and restaurant both nights. The drinks were great and reasonably priced. The food menu was varied and we were both pleasantly surprised at how good the food was. There was also a good selection for breakfast and the cooked options were extremely nice.

We have had a couple of meals at the Park Lodge Hotel. It's located in upper Tobermory and has parking. The bar area is relaxed and next to the dining area. There is also a beer garden with a little stream. The food was good on both our visits. Decent pub grub rather than style over substance.

We booked all of the Park Lodge rooms for Scottish country dancing weekend and stayed for a few extra days, as did a number of other dancers. We also had a number of other dancers joining us for dinner on two nights & the hotel kitchen coped really well with 40-odd dancers. Slick service and tasty food that was well presented. Since returning home, we've had a number of positive comments about the hotel. In particular, people were very complimentary about the staff - without exception all staff were super-friendly and helpful. Accommodation was fresh and spotlessly clean.

Hotel is clean and perfect for the price. Twin room is a bit tiny but clean and bed comfortable. Breakfast depends on the chef, you could see the difference on the breakfast on weekdays and weekends. But overall good selection. Definitely would come back to stay here.

Angela was the most welcoming host and made us feel so welcome even though we weren’t staying at the hotel, bar area was warm, comfortable and a nice modern setting with well priced drinks, we also decided to eat whilst there. Overall the experience we had in the 4 hours we were there will most certainly make us return and stay overnight - thanks team

My husband and I had a wonderful 2 night stay here in mid-August 2023! The staff is so friendly and helpful - the room seemed to be recently remodeled and had fresh, soft linens, bright clean/new bathroom with all needed amenities! The attached pub/restaurant served both a nice continental buffet (coffee/toast/cereals/yogurts/pastries) as well as made-to-order cooked breakfast. They also had an outdoor seating area/beer garden for enjoying your coffee or a pour of your favorite spirit! We loved the location as well! It was walking distance to Tobermory shopping and the bay - but also gave us a bit of privacy and quiet. The views of the bay while walking down to Tobermory were amazing! I would definitely stay here again!

Great venue, welcoming and friendly hosts. We were visiting from Bristol and came to see Thunderstruck by David Colvin, which was fantastic. Not sure if this happens with all activities here but audience members were invited to pay whatever they felt the play was worth to them. As visitors to Mull, we wanted to pay the ticket price of £15 each - to see a play of this quality was amazing. And to a full house. Brilliant.

Great upper waterfall, but the lower waterfall and view out over to Tobermory are worth the less than half a mile walk downwards.
Simon W — Google review
Due to the rain the days leading up to our visit the upper and lower falls were both very strong. The upper falls can be accessed from Aros carpark and only takes 2mins to walk to, the lower falls are most easily accessed by driving on to Aros park and parking down at the bottom end before following the signs down to the falls themselves. You get a decent view of Tobermory across the bay there too if it’s clear!

Just a car park with a short easy walk to the waterfall. Beautiful place, well worth a stop.
Kelly F — Google review
If you want a quick walk, the top waterfall I have taken a photo of is max 3 mins walk from the car park. . Definitely worth a visit. No toilets or facilities however.
Dawn A — Google review
Beautiful falls, so close to the carpark.
Ana G — Google review
Wonderful view of falls from below, a quality path/stream leading down. Top banana 🍌 all round.

Lovely views of the water fall from a few angels

Beautiful waterfalls but please note you have to walk the strenuous route to actually see them. The easy walk will only go around the loch you won’t see the waterfalls. There’s a rather steep and difficult climb to get to the top of the waterfalls if you want to see them. I only did one the other arguably better one was even steeper.

Rubha nan Gall Lighthouse

Rubha nan Gall Lighthouse is a stunning and magical place located on the wild island of Mull in Scotland. The coastal path leading to the lighthouse offers spectacular views, especially during sunset. It's an ideal spot for a leisurely walk or a drive, providing an authentic Scottish experience. The lighthouse itself is situated in a breathtaking location with panoramic views over Ardnamurchan, and if you're fortunate, you might even catch sight of dolphins or eagles.
Beautiful view point. There is a lovely walk out to the lighthouse from Tobermory following the shoreline. The lighthouse is in a stunning location with great views over Ardnamurchan. If you are lucky you might even see dolphins or an eagle.

(Translated by Google) Beautiful place on the wild island of Mull. A piece of authentic Scotland to explore on foot or in any vehicle you have available, as it is an ideal size for it. Don't trust the weather, it's even cool in summer.

(Translated by Google) Very beautiful view. Short hike of 1 hour - 1 hour 30 max. Bring hiking boots not because of the elevation, but because of the mud. (Original) Très belle vue. Petite randonnée de 1h - 1h30 max. Avoir des bottes de marche non pas à cause du dénivelé, mais à cause de la boue.

The Western Isles Hotel is a charming accommodation perched on a hilltop in Tobermory, Isle of Mull. The hotel offers stunning sea views from its terrace and many public areas. Under new private ownership since 2008, the hotel boasts 26 tastefully decorated ensuite guest rooms, ranging from single rooms to suites. It's known for providing a touch of luxury with vast bay views and is notably dog-friendly, welcoming furry companions throughout the premises.
I had an unforgettable stay at this hotel! From the moment I arrived, the service was truly exceptional. The host at reception was warm and welcoming, and every team member I interacted with went above and beyond to make my stay special. The restaurant team was particularly impressive, providing top-notch service and delicious food. The rooms were beautifully appointed, and the view was simply stunning. The location was perfect, allowing me to easily explore the surrounding area. Overall, I was blown away by the genuine and attentive service, incredible food, and outstanding amenities. If you're looking for a truly exceptional hotel experience, look no further! I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone seeking a memorable stay.

Absolutely fabulous hotel. Old world charm that sadly is missing in today’s hustle and bustle. This hotel was an absolute delight from check in the front desk (Gertie) Could not have been more gracious and accommodating. Then we dined in the restaurant and had an absolutely charming waiter(Sam) Who really Was a delight To talk with. He helped us choose our wines And we had a little bit of good fun and banter. Hats off to the chef it was the best meal we had in Scotland. We had an absolutely delightful stay!

We had dinner in one of the pods out on the deck overlooking the water. It was fantastic. Unfortunately, it rained, but we still had a beautiful view. The two young men who were taking care of us were friendly and lovely. The bartender mixed some excellent drinks, and our young waiter was super friendly. The food was also fantastic. we didn’t share with anybody, but we are celebrating our 45th wedding on anniversary as we travel across Scotland. This was the perfect place to celebrate.

Food here I believe is very underrated. It's quite good and higher end quality. Drinks are decent and the view is incredible. They do have vegan and vegetarian options and they are better than expected. I'm a bit disappointed that the online menu doesn't match their current menu but it is good. I think this place deserves more credit than it gets. Service is pretty good too. Please remember my three stars don't mean these places are bad, just more I wouldn't travel out of my way for this place. Meaning more it's not the reason to go to Tobermory

Check-in is only available after 4pm, breakfast ends strictly at 9:30am, and the bar closes before 10pm. This was particularly disappointing during our stay, as these times are not comparable to other hotels across Scotland we visited. On one evening, we were told the bar was closed at 9:50pm by the barman, despite seeing 3 or 4 guests still seated at the bar. We also called to request breakfast at 9:40am but were refused, with no alternative such as even bread or ham offered. The rooms, like the rest of the hotel, are dated. The bed was uncomfortable and the in-room television very small. Guests with larger suitcases should be aware that access to the upper rooms requires carrying luggage up several stairs. While the staff were helpful, they were not particularly welcoming. At check-in, the receptionist simply stared and waited for me to speak, rather than greeting us with a smile. Given the premium price per night, we expected much more both in terms of comfort and service and a smile would have been appreciated.

I don't know what the hell this hotel is about. I made a reservation, and they immediately charged me half the amount. I called and they said they'd refund me if I canceled within 30 days. I canceled right away, since I had free cancellation, and today I see it's no longer pending, but they charged me and haven't refunded it. What a terrible cancellation policy they have. You have 30 days, but they charge you as soon as you make the reservation even though you have free cancellation, and they "supposedly" refund your money after 15 days. This hotel may be well-known, but I will never go there, and I wouldn't recommend going to a place like this. SHAME,SHAME,SHAME I need my money now It's the only place where something like this happened to me, and I travel frequently to different parts of the country. It's not that they withheld the money; they collected it directly. So everything should be reviewed carefully🙃 They are quick to charge and respond to bad reviews, but they are not so quick to return money.

Stayed 1 night at the Western Isles Hotel in September and was surprised to discover at check in they'd upgraded us to the Tobermory room (amazing large room, huge beds and view out to the bay). Didn't want to go out and explore as the room was so good ! Food was excellent and the staff were very attentive too. Looking to go again next year but maybe for 2 or 3 nights.

We were amazed by this lovely hotel! The views of the bay from rooms and lounge are stunning, the food is locally sourced, very well prepared and presented, the staff excellent - friendly, helpful, with an evident pride in the hotel, sense of responsibility for the service and an interest in the guests as people. An unexpected high point of our visit to a lovely island. We'll be back for sure!
