First time going and was very happy! Would highly recommend going! If you a fan of Gavin and Stacey then go!! Also recommend going to chippy on the beach! And you can sit on the beach and enjoy!!

If you're looking for a peaceful start to your day, Barry Island beach is a fantastic spot to catch the sunrise. The golden sands of Whitmore Bay stretch out in a beautiful crescent, and in the quiet morning hours, you'll be treated to a stunning view as the sun rises, casting a warm glow over the water. You can enjoy a tranquil walk along the promenade, which is wide and well-kept. The air is fresh, and the only sounds are the gentle lapping of waves and the calls of the birds. It's the perfect time for a quiet stroll or a moment of reflection before the hustle and bustle of the day begins.

Great place to visit with the family. It is very clean and offers various attractions such as rides, games, or playgrounds. There is even a beach so you can enjoy and relax if the weather is great. Plenty of food options available (Halal food too). Would happily come back.

One of the most cleanest and looked after beaches I've ever visited. If your a fan of Gavin and Stacey this has the arcade that Nessa worked at. Stacey's house is five minutes away and Pam and Mick's house is ten minute drive away.
Paul C — Google review
Great place if you like fairground rides, crazy golf and arcades. Nice beach, wasn't too crowded. Could remember scenes from Gavin & Stacey, Nessa's slot machines etc. 😊

A few good white knuckle rides payed for by tokens, kiddies rides and amusement arcades etc, everything you'd expect basically.

Lovely day! We went to Jackson Bay as we had our dog, and we all had a lovely time. We walked along the beach front; it was very busy and loud. Lots of places to eat and a couple of toilet blocks.

The recently refurbished seafront boasts a sweeping promenade along Whitmore Bay beach, lined with inviting cafes and restaurants. Families can enjoy various amusements such as a climbing wall, mist feature, adventure golf, and landscaped gardens. For thrill-seekers, the Barry Island Pleasure Park offers exciting rides.
This is a beautiful place! The beach is very clean and is an alcohol free zone. Great for families. I didn't come across any dogs on the beach. Life guards are actively on the beach. Views are stunning, cargo ships planes

Barry is great! Tacky tat shops, full of Gavin and Stacy tat, fairground, fish and chips, sandy beach, fairly cheap car park great day out if you want all of the stereotypes of a British beach day out 👌 Dog ban on thr beach until October 1st

I had lovely experience with family as they have amusement park for kids, nice and clean beach. Toilets and food near by to beach. Donuts were really nice. Garden walk on the side of the beach is lovely.

The beach was beautiful and peaceful — perfect for a relaxing day by the sea. What really stood out was the drive from Birmingham; the countryside views along the way were absolutely lovely and made the journey feel like part of the adventure. Highly recommend for families or anyone looking for a calm coastal escape.

This place is great but most of the business don't want to stay here anymore as the beach is not clean so people don't come here. So business not getting customers. Yes those are my sand drawings and my friends. I done that seahorse mostly.

What a cute little seaside town, commercialized of course but full of families having a great time on the fair and on the beautiful beach. Good amenities. . There is a lovely short walk with great views along the peninsula. . A great day out. . . .🌞🍦😎

Beautiful place, absolutely fell in love. Beach isnt dog friendly all year round but found a secluded beach just around the corner that is.
Lynda D — Google review
Great little seaside location. I took my daughter for a 2-day trip. We stayed in the Premier Inn which was only a 10 mins walk to the seafront. Lots of Gavin & Stacey references, obviously - but superb beach & fun in the sea to be had. 3x fish and chip places on the promenade. Lots of arcades for the kids to enjoy. Nearby there is a fairground that has a few rides. Also Friars Point is a lovely short walk to the right of the beach (2nd pic taken from). Great for a 1-2 day trip but we felt we’d seen it all in that time… unless you’re just happy sitting on the beach every day!! I’d come back for a short stay/day trip, for sure! 😎

The recently renovated seafront boasts a sweeping promenade along Whitmore Bay beach, lined with inviting cafes and restaurants, vibrant beach huts, and various amusements for kids. Lovely promenade to stroll along and admire the fantastic ocean view. Plenty of benches to sit along the way, and plenty of cafes and restaurants for refreshments. Limited parking on the sea-front, but plenty of parking further out from the front, although it is a fair walk away.

A nice beach with a promenade and gelato shops with a funfair just across the road. The best part is a rock cliff just off the sand beach, a gorgeous and quiet place to sit and enjoy the beauty of the ocean away from the crowds.

Lovely beach. It has soft sand and not rocky sand. The view is amazing as well as the fresh breeze. There's many places around it as well like the fair with lots of crazy rides, shops, fish x chips and arcades. And a big car park there.

Muddy beach, with plenty of Gavin and Stacey related shops and cafes. When the tide is out you have quite a walk to get to the water. Lifeguard is usually on duty. Can get busy during holiday period.

Today I visited Marco's Cafe, a charming establishment located at John's cafe. The service provided by the staff was truly remarkable, as the lady attending to us demonstrated exceptional patience and kindness amidst the bustling atmosphere. This cafe is an ideal destination for fans of Gavin and Stacey, offering a delightful ambiance to enjoy a cup of tea or coffee regardless of the weather. The selection of delectable cakes available is quite tempting, while ample undercover seating ensures comfort for patrons.
Marco’s Cafe is a lovely place with great service and a warm, welcoming atmosphere. The staff are very good – friendly, polite, and always happy to help. The food and drinks are fresh and tasty, perfect for a relaxing break near the beach. It’s a great spot to sit, enjoy a coffee, and watch the world go by. Highly recommended for anyone visiting the area!

Waited 1h for a sorry bacon & cheese baguette after being advised of a 30 min wait. All cheap ingredients and a shoe sole would have been softer than that piece of bacon. Perhaps cooking the bacon was what delayed our order for another 30 minutes? One of our orders wasn’t brought to the table. It might as well just have been sitting in the kitchen until we went to the counter to ask for it.
Claret F — Google review
Had a bacon baguette for breakfast. It was nice (can't tart up a bacon butty, lol) obviously popular with locals judging by the amount of re-usable cups people were using. Overlooking the sea, lots of seating, clean. Prices reasonable 🙂

Cocktail bar
Academy Espresso Bar is housed in a stunning Grade II-listed building, formerly a working pumphouse, located across from Goodsheds. By day, it offers exceptional coffee and food, while at night, patrons can enjoy espresso martinis and non-caffeinated cocktails. The modern bar exudes sophistication with an extensive menu of cocktails and craft beer. Regular food pop-ups and themed street food nights add to the vibrant atmosphere.
Great atmosphere for a coffee and cake stop. All back to normal now (post pandemic), which is nice. Digital ordering from tables has been retained, which can be quite handy, in addition to usual counter service. Great outdoor space; nicely covered so can still sit out in the fresh air when it's raining. Coffee's still really good, and cake selection always a joy. Folks always friendly and live up to their team slogan "Work hard and be nice to people". Dog friendly, and puppuccinos often offered :) Parking system has changed (2024) so no more reg entry on tablet at door. Just keep an eye on time spent; max 3 hours.

The coffee is okay, albeit a mild flavour. The piccolo was made with a double shot and 200ml of milk, which is a flat white, not a piccolo. Any coffee bar should know that: putting academy in the title raises my expectations, which were not met on this occasion.

Excellent food and drinks. I ordered two Coffees and it took ages for them to be made. It wasn't particularly busy. Otherwise, a great place.
Keith P — Google review
We went for Sunday breakfast and ordered three Academy breakfasts. All had cold beans, cold, not roasted tomato, and a hard poached egg. The sausages were the cheapest available, which is what you would expect from a roadside van. The coffee was fine at best, which is a shame as they have a great coffee machine. Also, as it's ordered via the app, no one checks that everything is ok.
Oliver H — Google review
Great place for a coffee but I definitely don’t recommend the breakfast it was cheap ingredients and bacon was so overcooked, poached eggs have a very strange color to the yolk most probably pre packaged poached eggs and the sausages were very poor quality, I’d have thought for such a small breakfast and at £9.50 each that there would’ve been better quality to it.
Zoe M — Google review
Usually really enjoy visiting but on our last visit the food was very poor and disappointing. Toast was stone cold, about a dessert spoon of beans, undercooked bacon, hard boiled egg and clearly very cheap sausages that tasted awful with a grey tint. The whole breakfast was quite cold so not a good experience this time unfortunately!
Katie — Google review
The place is modern and very good positioned in the city with plenty of parking space. Looks clean and safe and rules for Covid-19 in place. Not too many options to eat just sandwiches and crisps or cookies but all looking fresh. A bit pricey as per location but worth the effort as the atmosphere is pleasant. You serving yourself and that’s reduce the contract with too many people. Recommend the experience.

Fish & chips restaurant
O'Shea's Fish & Chip Cafe is a delightful spot to enjoy classic British fare, especially after a day at the beach. Visitors rave about the generous portions of freshly cooked fish and perfectly fluffy chips, often served with a side of hot mushy peas or curry sauce that many claim is exceptional. The atmosphere can be lively, reflecting the diverse mix of patrons enjoying their meals. On sunny days, it’s an ideal place to savor delicious food while soaking in the stunning seaside views.
The best Fish and chips me and my family have ever tasted!!! Definitely recommend and can't wait to bring my family back for this delicious food again!! Staff very friendly and polite. 5++☆
Marcella D — Google review
Enjoyed the cod and chips, the pie I believe was Peter's Pies but didn't check, it was tasty and I like this as usually most places serve pukka pies. We did find quite a few bones in the cod and also what seemed like something from a scouring pad in the chips, likely where cleaning had taken place and the pad getting caught. Didn't mention this as by the time we were eating there were more customers. Over good was cooked fresh and kids enjoyed the fish and chips.
J C — Google review
Amazing visit today. Great cod pieces and chips. £9 for the cod pieces and chips and it was massive! Deffo pop by if your on the island!
Benjamin M — Google review
Decent chunks of cod. Healthy portions of chips. Proper chips from King Edwards potatoes, I believe. Everything was hot and fresh. Reasonable prices (£12 for large cod and chips). Fast efficient, and pleasant, service, when the place was heaving with customers. I took the food out to the beach to eat. It could use more seating during the surge hours, perhaps. Honestly, O'Shea's is a great, proper fish 'n chip place.
Jeffrey C — Google review
Really fresh fish and chips. Lovely staff. Self service tills were good.
Jack B — Google review
The food was okay, service was great, very open type restaurant. It does the job for quick food.
Srijan K — Google review
During my recent visit, I was pleased to find that the chips were well-cooked and enjoyable, and I also appreciated that the shop offers proper meat sausages in batter, which is a refreshing change compared to many places. However, there were a number of concerns that unfortunately impacted the overall experience. Firstly, the curry sauce served was watery and cold, which made it unappetising. In addition, while the sausage itself was good quality, the batter was excessively greasy and difficult to enjoy. A much more concerning issue was related to food handling. I observed a young server taking a sausage from another customer’s tray—after the food had already been served to them—and placing it back into the serving oven, before replacing it with a battered sausage instead. This raised significant hygiene concerns, as once food has left the serving counter, it should not be returned to the hot hold or offered to other customers under any circumstances. Finally, I noted that there are very few tables available for customers wishing to dine in, which makes it difficult for people to comfortably enjoy their meal on the premises. While I did find some positives, I feel these issues—particularly the hygiene practice observed—should be addressed urgently to maintain food safety and improve the overall dining experience.
Steffan M — Google review
Had a meal here with my family. The new touchscreen is hard to navigate. The pie looked like it had been chucked in the takeout box and the top was hard and couldn't eat it the bottom was fine. Chips nice and sausages the family had were good. Tables were not kept on top of cleaning we cleaned our own table as best we could. We always come here when visiting but yesterday was disappointing.

The food has received mixed reviews, with some praising the excellent sourdough and bacon while others found certain items passable. However, many appreciate the quick service and overall beautiful setup of the place.
The food was excellent. The only downside was there was very limited vegan food options although alternative milks were readily available. Great atmosphere and very friendly staff

Recently we went here on a day trip to Barry Island. We planned to have breakfast and had looked into our options beforehand online. Initially we were going to go to John's cafe next door, but after comparing the menus on both shop fronts, for just a small amount more Whitfield and Jackson proclaimed to have far better quality ingredients and a slice of black pudding too. This was enough to change our direction. Very cozy inside, outdoor seating too, however I like to eat a breakfast indoors to keep it warm that bit longer. The food did not disappoint, absolutely delicious, very good quality produce, cooked to perfection and a fair price. Sourdough bread was delightful, the sausages and bacon were butcher quality as promised, To be honest we had nothing to fault. We we had no doubt that coming here was the correct choice. Washed it down with a cold can of Coca-Cola and away we went. I do think the staff could have been a little more "service with a smile", they didn't offer much interaction besides taking our order and handing us plates. Besides that a thoroughly good experience and I'd certainly make the journey here again if I find myself over that way again in the future.

Had a gluten free breakfast (minus eggs and mushrooms as I don't like them) plus a black coffee. Lovely atmosphere, tasty food with proper butchers sausages. Very nice and right by the beach. Would definitely pop in again.

We had a really good experience here. The staff were very helpful as one of our party had food allergies and the staff explained what food she could eat. We were seated straight away and ordered our food and the food came out quickly and was delicious and very good value for money. Would highly recommend and there were seated areas that you could take dogs.

We visited yesterday and I had the poached eggs on sourdough bread. I have to say these poached eggs were the best I have ever tasted in my life. They were cooked to absolute perfection. The yolks were perfect, just the right consistency and totally delicious. I'm not a great fan of the white preferring the yolk, but these whites were delicious too. The addition of the sourdough bread as opposed to ordinary bread added to the taste also. I don't know how your chef made this simple meal so exquisite, but please pass on my compliments to him/her. My husband enjoyed his omelette too. Will be back!

Stunning place 😍 we both had breakfasts and an omelette. The ham in the omelette was "real" ham and the mushrooms in it were lush too. Our breakfast ingredients were high quality and having a half tomato just shows that this place is quality 👌 the toast was absolutely stunning with real butter 😋😋 It's our first time eating here, we will definitely be back. Our dog was welcome too which was a big bonus. Even though it was very busy due to the festival of transport, our food came out quick and was served by a lovely member of staff 😀 all.the staff were friendly despite being run off their feet. Thank you all ❤️

Family restaurant
Barry Island Brewers Fayre is a laid-back family pub and restaurant chain offering classic dishes and international favorites. They are known for their excellent value for money, with options like a hot buffet breakfast featuring great sausages, eggs, cereals, yogurts, pastries, and more. The Head Chef recommends the classic Smothered Chicken or mouth-watering Mixed Grill as popular menu choices.
Have been here a couple of times, Carl and the staff are the most polite in Cardiff and food is good, especially for the price. We will definitely be returning many times. One thing that would make the experience better would be if some rude families were asked to contain their children and behave with some fundamental decency, as last time we visited the family next to us had their kids running around in their socks and crawling on the floor, which is not appropriate for a restaurant.

A Saturday evening with a family of 6. The service to order at the bar was quick and staff where friendly. Although it was busy, 40 minutes from order to service was somewhat unusual for this restaurant as normally they are quick for service. The food was warm, pleasant and the staff were very friendly.

Well we visited here a few times whilst staying at the premier inn Barry island next door. Food is lovely and very reasonablly priced. Before 6pm daily meals are £6 and deserts £2.99 each, bargain, as a wheelchair user this place is level access and there is plenty of space to turn around inside. Although this place can get busy service is brilliant. Bookings for tables may be reccomended here.

Me and my mother were staying in the Premier Inn next door for my 25th birthday. We had booked in for a meal deal with the Premier Inn which we found to be of incredibly good value. It included breakfast, a 2 course evening meal and a drink for an incredibly good price. Almost all of the regular menu was available in this deal. During the evening meal, the manager Carl and his team gave us incredibly good service and was very friendly. They did everything they could to make my birthday feel special. The food was prepared timely and of excellent quality. I would particularly recommend trying their steak since it was cooked to perfection. For breakfast the next morning, there was a wide array of choices. Once again, the food was of excellent quality. I would highly recommend visiting this place if you're in Barry Island. Especially if you're staying with the Premier Inn and you are offered the meal deal with your stay

Well as Brewers Fayre’s go this one was a delight . We were staying in the Premier Inn next door and popped in for lunch - it was fairly busy but with a £5 lunch offer I’m not surprised. We ordered the gammon and fish and chips - expecting to receive a smaller portion for that price. The food arrived and it was a more than plentiful portion - set us up for the day! Service was good - take a table then order at the bar .

Great food and service.. staff were super friendly and efficient. We both plumped for the rump steak which was delicious and cooked to perfection for us.. 👌 I went for the caramel brown Betty with custard which was amazing 😋 my wife chose the banoffee cheesecake which was a generous portion and delicious.. Very enjoyable and good value

It’s what you would expect from brewers fayre food wise. Perfect for a value for money meal with your family. The service was excellent- I forgot to order my son’s pizza and Carl sorted it for me immediately and it was out within 10mins! He also made sure my friend who is gluten free was catered for well. Lovely experience and start to our break in Barry

Cafe
Nestled along the picturesque Barry Island seafront, John's Cafe is a charming spot that exceeds expectations in both quality and value. This modest eatery serves up hearty meals, including a generous steak and ale pie accompanied by perfectly cooked chips and peas, all served hot on a plate. Breakfast lovers will delight in their traditional offerings featuring flawlessly cooked eggs, crispy bacon, and substantial doorstop toast slathered with rich Welsh butter.
Amazing breakfast and coffees (including gluten free options). I am coeliac and had beans and cheese on gluten free toast and an iced latte. My partner was able to have an oat milk iced latte (he’s lactose intolerant). The food is great value for money and the staff are super friendly! Thanks!

It's the best kind of cafe: Excellent food (much is homemade) served hot and fast. Very good value for money, and friendly staff. I had what certainly looked and tasted like homemade steak and ale pie, with chips and peas, and my own big thermos jug of proper tasty gravy. Wonderful. Girlfriend had sausage, egg, and chips. Sausages were very nice, eggs perfectly cooked. Chips hot and crisp. Stepson just pinched some of ours. But it makes up the fourth generation to enjoy eating here. Will definitely be back 😁

Modest café situated right on Barry Island seafront. I wasn't expecting much in the way of either quality or value. However I was very pleasantly surprised when my lunch arrived, to receive a generous slice of steak and ale pie which was absolutely packed with filling, a decent pile of nicely-cooked chips and peas, all served piping hot on a hot plate, just as it should be! It was also very nice that the gravy came separately in a jug with a lid, to keep the contents hot... brilliant! The staff were clearly working hard during lunch service and yet still managed a smile and to exchange pleasantries. I'll definitely be back, next time I'm in town. Thank you and keep up the great work!

Overpriced if you want just a sandwich £12.50. Tried to just order 1 scone to share and was told its cheaper to have 2. In this day and age do we need to be overfed. A coffee and scone is well and truly enough to eat in my opinion. Coffee (flat white just a milky coffee) nothing brilliant. Don't appreciate 40 questions when all I want is a snack. Enough said.

Nice breakfast with crispy hash browns and a nice sausage, toast was included but hot beverage was extra.

The new King of Barry Breakfast is here. Well I only just found out about it lol 🤣 fantastic massive and meaty for £8.80 but you could split it in 2! Needs better sausages for the price and WiFi other than that the breakfast was amazing!

Excellent food ! Portions were huge . Proper chips . Service was quick even though very busy . Staff are staff the owner should be very proud of . We been coming here for years now on our annual sometimes few more day trips to Barry . Wouldn’t eat anywhere else 😁

Great food & service, the parking near it is for disabled only, and the place needs a lick of paint as it just a bit too bright white only. However would recomend a visit.
