Kells Bay House and Gardens is a delightful destination nestled in Kells, County Kerry, that beautifully combines history with nature. Originally established in 1837 as a hunting lodge, this Victorian-style manor is set on an expansive 17 hectares of lush grounds featuring six distinct gardens. Visitors can explore everything from tropical palms to an enchanting fern forest adorned with whimsical dinosaur sculptures carved from fallen trees.
I was traveling Ireland with my family and we decided to visit Kells Bay. The best decision I've ever made. As we were walking the garden we stumbled across the most amazing dinosaur sculpture. Bubbling with excitement my 9 year old, Benji, jumped with joy. His excitement brought a smile to my face and lifted my heart. As we were leaving, Benji looked up at me and said "you're the best Dad in the whole entire world". Thank you Kells Bay. You brought memories that will last for life to my son , Benji. Simply a must do if visiting the area. Nay, simply a must do full stop. Get yourself to Kells Bay. P.s. the staff are simply wonderful

If you are looking for the secret garden vibe this is it. The grounds are spectacular and will take you for a beautiful stroll into the woods with incredible views of flowers and waterfalls that will keep you intrigued. If you get a chance read the history on the grounds. It's quite interesting. Private beach is included. The staff is warm and inviting. We did have dinner and the food was delicious at very reasonable price. It is all Thai food so keep that in mind if it's not on your pallet of things you enjoy. The room we had was lovely at a cursory glance, however it is incredibly dated and needs serious attention. It did have a wonderful country English vibe to the decor and I wouldn't change that. The mold in the room and bathroom was awful though and I'm pretty sure it is black mold. We stayed two nights and left with bites all over our legs and we aren't sure from what but definitely not mosquitoes or midgies. I feel this place could absolutely be the most incredible stay in all of Ireland with some love, upgrades and mold remediation.
Sarah M — Google review
We only visited the garden but had an amazing day. The waterfall was the highlight and the kids loved the rope bridge. The little cafe at the beginning is a gem of a place with a great view down to the sea. We could have spent all day here.
Morgan H — Google review
We didn’t stay here, we were here to visit the gardens. I was most disappointed. I felt they had been greatly neglected. You could see how beautiful it once was and could be again with lots of love and attention. A lot of the wooden structures were broken, covered by over grown foliage or rotten. Some of the paths needed to be cleared and plants cut back to encourage new life. Hopefully with more investment and TLC, it could be once again be spectacular.
Becci B — Google review
We recently stayed one night at Kells Bay House and Gardens. First, I want to say that the location, the gardens, and the view from the room are all spectacular. However, I must say, that all those visual delights were minimized by the service, food and condition of our room. First, when we arrived there, there was a gate that prevented us from entering the parking area. There had been no instructions, prior to our arrival, regarding the code to open the gate. I had to call the front desk to ask for the code. The first time, no one answered. After trying a second time, 5 minutes later, the reception person answered and provided the code and we were then able to enter. The receptionist was kind enough to provide directions to the gardens and the beach and direct us to our room. We never saw her or any hotel staff around again, even when we left the next day. We gave our key to the kitchen server and that was that. First thing we noticed in our room was an old huge stain on the carpet. The second problem with the room was the bathtub. Nothing but rusty and black bits came out of the bathtub and it never cleared up. When we went to eat at the Thai restaurant within the hotel, we heard nothing but loud conversations that sounded like arguing coming from the kitchen staff that lasted from the time we arrived to eat until about the time our meal was served. The same loud talking/arguing occurred the following morning. The same server who was talking loud was very kind to us when she served the food. Finally, the dinner and breakfast were mediocre, at best.
Jerry H — Google review
Beautiful gardens that feature different trails, a rope bridge Skywalk, dinosaurs and a very jurassic park feel with the many different kinds of trees and plants. The restaurant was also incredible. The service for our party of 12 was awesome, very quick and the food was very delicious
Stephen G — Google review
I had visited the gardens here in 2013 and had fond memories of it. I returned last week with my friend and our children on the way home from camping. The gardens felt very neglected in areas particularly the ladies walled garden and the waterfall walk which were extremely overgrown. I would love to have seen more of an effort to return to a more native planting scheme also. Overall the children had fun looking for the dinosaur wood carvings but I don't think I would bother returning here again. Pity.
Miriam M — Google review
I recently visited and want to share my experience, especially for others with mobility issues or disabilities. Before purchasing tickets (nearly €10 per person), I explicitly asked at the ticket counter whether there were many stairs or steep inclines, disclosing my disability. I was told quite directly that there weren’t any significant challenges. Unfortunately, this was not the case. There are many steps and steep inclines. I was not able to visit most of the gardens. After entering, it quickly became clear that the gardens are not easily accessible for people with mobility impairments. There are steep hills both to access the ticket desk and within the gardens themselves. Certain paths and areas also have very rough surfaces (loose stones or gravel), which are manageable only for some wheelchair users and can require substantial assistance to navigate. Despite being told otherwise, I was unable to spend more than 20 minutes in the gardens due to the overwhelming terrain. While the gardens do have some accessible areas and amenities, such as a disabled parking bay (which is not well signposted and is itself up a steep hill behind a gated area with no clear way to get in or signage) and an accessible toilet, these also come with their own problems. For example, there was a step to access the accessible toilet—not all wheelchair users or those with limited mobility will be able to manage this. The website says "selected areas" are accessible, but this does not reflect the experience for many disabled visitors. Additionally, there are no concession or discounted tickets available for guests with disabilities, which is standard practice at many other Irish attractions and especially surprising given the limited accessibility. In summary: If you have mobility challenges or need to avoid stairs and uneven terrain, I would not recommend visiting Kells Bay Gardens. The site is not accessible, and the information provided at the ticket desk was misleading if not out right wrong. If you decide to go and require accessibility, it may help to call ahead for guidance, but be prepared for serious challenges if stairs and steep slopes are an issue for you

The Old Barracks Heritage Centre is a remarkable destination that beautifully combines history and entertainment. Nestled in the heart of town, this extraordinary building offers stunning views across the water to Ballycarbery Castle. The centre also features an engaging escape room experience that challenges participants while providing a fun team-building activity. With friendly staff and informative audio guides, guests can delve into local history at their own pace.
Without doubt worth a visit. Great building with an escape room. Daniel O'Connell and Monsignor Hugh O,Flaherty memorabilia and history. Excellent value and run by the local community. Reasonably priced.
Frank D — Google review
The building is beautiful. It needs more attention to detail. For example, a lift that's working, a coffee corner with a good coffee machine. So that visitors can have a cuppa and a scone or sandwich after the tour. The staff will be delighted to serve. Open for more activities is required. So, enough to consider, how to get more use of the building and more visitors.
Margareth B — Google review
Great way to spend an hour or so on a rainy day. The self guided tour through the app is really well done and easy to use with lots of interesting stories and there are interactive pieces throughout the tour - like make your own morse code message! Staff were also friendly and welcoming. Definitely worth a visit!
Aoife B — Google review
Had a little team building and the experience was class. Moving through those rooms and finding clues, can definitely recommend this. And compared to other escape rooms, the price is very reasonable and you get free admission to the rest of Barracks as well. Very good activity for a rainy day!

Absolutely Delicious Breakfast! We had an amazing breakfast here and every dish was delicious . The pancakes were perfectly fluffy and had just the right amount of sweetness—absolutely lovely. The French toast was outstanding, with soft, buttery brioche bread. The bacon served with both the pancakes and French toast was honestly the best bacon I've ever had: incredibly crispy, full of flavour, and cooked to perfection. My partner ordered the full fry and was just as impressed. Everything on the plate was top quality and cooked beautifully. Highly recommend this spot if you're looking for a breakfast that really delivers.

Transport yourself back to the Iron Ages with a visit to Cahergal Stone Fort, an ancient ring fort located in the Ring of Kerry. This historical site offers an ethereal and majestic experience, allowing visitors to explore the secured homestead from 500-700 AD. The fort features outer and inner round walls, possibly a roundhouse, and visitors can climb and walk on top of the wall for panoramic views.
Worth the detour off The Ring of Kerry. It was a nice walk from the road to the fort. We enjoyed climbing the walls and imagining what life would have been like when it was built. It was windy that day so the top was precarious, but we still enjoyed ourselves.
Randy B — Google review
Cool round fort we stumbled across. Wish the weather was better but still a good experience. Meet a man asking if we wanted a photo with a baby sheep lol
Neil “ — Google review
Beautiful partially reconstructed fort, which gives a fantastic impression of what it would have been like complete. Easy to get to, just a short walk from the parking and gave impressive views all around. Free to visit
Lewis G — Google review
We enjoyed our short visit the the fort as a part of a Ring of Kerry tour. It's a couple hundred meters walk from the road, sitting on a slight rise with rock steps. It's a pretty amazing feat of architecture and manpower. You can climb the fort and get some good views of the surrounding countryside.
Brian Z — Google review
Quick stop to see this interesting structure. Not sure if there are many round structures but it was the only one we saw. A lot of times tower homes and castles are turned into forts later. This one was actually built to be a fort!
Lori M — Google review
Great condition stone fort, comparable with Staigue Stone Fort on the other side of peninsula. Both rather large and in good condition. This one had a nifty center. Dont feel bad if you wanted to see Leacanabuaile Ring Fort above it. I see it is closed now. It was cool but in far worse shape and overgrown a bit. Hard to tell what was what in it. Cahergal is better. (Now Grianan of Aileach up in Donegal is the best as far as Ive seen! 360 panorama of gorgeous Irish landscape and ocean. ) Sept 4, 2024.

A great hill fort, standing like it would have in its heyday. Quiet when we were there, it has dedicated parking for both hill forts, and a short walk up. You can climb up and survey the landscape, it even stopped raining while we were there!

Located near the cahergal stone fort. Further up the path, about a 10 minute walk. Wasn’t quite as impressive after seeing Cahergal but still appreciate the differences between the two. Also loved seeing all the sheep in the nearby fields on the way up and back.

Free to visit & beautifully preserved, the fort gives great views across the landscape, including the other fort a few minutes walk away and the castle by the waterfront. Very quiet & peaceful, the only sounds are the birds & the sheep. Just be careful, the ground is very muddy in places!
Lewis G — Google review
Caergall Ring Fort. This beautifully restored stone ring fort dates back to the Iron Age and is a must-see (and climb) during a trip around Ireland's Ring of Kerry. At the center of the fort are the ruins of a round stone house, well worth exploring. If you're feeling brave, climb a short flight of steps to the top of the ramparts for phenomenal views of the Irish coastline. This Irish National Monument is located four kilometers from the Ring of Kerry, outside the town of Cahersiveen, and is completely free to visit.
Nataliia M — Google review
Tried to visit, signs up saying no cars and that the fort was closed and was shouted at by locals, told get clear off. Looking for a argument. Rabbits looked happy though
Michael H — Google review
There is a sign at the entrance to the road that clearly says that this is not open to the public and is strictly private. Cannot visit.
Jo R — Google review
Here the past is shrouded in mystery. Walk up the road and there is a pedestrian gate free to enter.

There were signposts from both entrance sides that that it is closed to the public, despite some kind of official sign showing to park at the spot and walk from there... Would suggest marking this as closed on the maps and not waste others time driving there

The amount of free places to see in Cahersiveen and surrounds is incredible: castle, ancient stone forts, idyllic scenic spots, beaches, Valentia Island, etc
Susan K — Google review
You are only able to get about 100 yd away from the facility, all fenced off as private property. There is a free parking area, nobody is here securing the facility. You can walk around towards the right and follow the water and get a little better view and better pictures. But you cannot actually approach and touch or walk through. Well worth the drive though
Ed G — Google review
The castle ruins are visible from the small parking area but the grounds are on private property. If you’re visiting the nearby stone forts, it’s worth taking the short drive over, but I otherwise wouldn’t go out of the way to see this. There are plenty of better castle ruins to see in Ireland. Unless you walk down along the water (which was very scenic) you shouldn’t plan to spend more than about 5 minutes here.
Carli C — Google review
One thing that can happen on trips is that you have to make time choices. If you are in the area, it is worth the 10 minute drive and park while seeing the other are attractions. I would not add this to an itinerary. If you have seen castle ruins, you have seen this. If you have not, it is worth going up to get a photo. The are is pretty.
Nicole B — Google review
Unfortunately, the area is closed, and it’s not very interesting to stand 8 meters away. But I still liked it, because... because it's beautiful. If you're heading to the Kerry Cliffs, stop here, just 15 minutes from the main road.

Castle ruin on private farm land. No entrance. But you can see it from 50 metres distance, and walk around on a private road (no cars allowed). Parking for about 5 cars nearby. A narrow single lane road leading to it. Drive with care.

We knew that one can't access the castle anymore but we still loved the location. You can walk around, take pics of the castle and if you come during low tide you can explore the riverbed. Parking for about 5 cars right in front, fits a motorhome too. No barriers or height restrictions

Additionally, the area provides beautiful scenic walks along the coast and stunning sunset views.
Great spot for motorhome overnight. Quick walk into town for pubs and restaurants. Aldi about 5 mins walk. Lots of great scenic walks

Very sheltered harbour, with a convenient and easy to use pair of public slipways nearby. Close to town, but quiet and secure. lovely friendly marina staff, cant be more helpful.

A nice little marina. Nothing spectacular, but still it has some atmosphere.
Holger K — Google review
Had a lovely time in Cahersiveen marina. We received a very friendly welcome. Nice quiet surrounds and just a short 5 minute walk to the main street. There seems to be plenty of activity during the summer months. We went to a launching of a local photograph exhibition yesterday, for example. You can also go climbing tree nearby hills, eg Knock na dTobair. This is a sheltered spot with facilities with toilets and showers (€2 as long as you like- just let them know in advance that you'd like one),padlocked gate into the marina where you're handed your own personal key. Very reasonable rates per meter per day/ week/ month.

This Marina is set in one of the most beautiful setting I’ve ever seen in Ireland - yet the the facilities are just about adequate.. Mens showers have no where to set clothing other than beside the hand-basins when you close the wooden shower door you are more of less showering in the dark as there is no light (well I certainly could not find it) your belongings would be lying unsecured in the main wash area - there’s a hair drier wired into the hand dryer.. but only the Hand dryer works. No instructions on how to work hairdryer at all. On the other hand the manager Kerian is a great chap altogether… could t do enough for you…. The town of Cahersiveen is definitely worth I visit …. Outstanding as are the people we met

Lovely setting up the River Fertha. The staff were so friendly and helpful. You could look out of the boat and see the ruined castle. It was just a short walk to the town. The facilities were spotless, the showers excellent and nothing was too much trouble. We can highly recommend this marina.

Skellig Soaps

Gift shop
If you find yourself in the stunning region of Kerry, a visit to Alice's Skellig Soaps is an absolute must! This charming shop is not only visually appealing but also offers a delightful sensory experience. With its ever-changing decor and fragrant lavender adorning the window boxes, it’s hard to resist stepping inside. The enticing aromas wafting down the high street will lead you right to this gem.
Stumbled upon this gem during our holiday in summer. I’m so sad I only took two pieces of soap with me as the quality is extraordinary good! No irritation, exquisite smell, cleans while also nourishes the skin and has a creamy texture while also being long-lasting. I would be regular customer if I would live nearby. All best wishes from Germany!
H. G — Google review
Lovely shop and Alice is super helpful. She spotted my daughter’s camera and was immediately discussing shutter speeds with her using the prints around the walls as examples. The soap is lovely and the prints are worth a look too.

I am so glad we stopped in...my friend told me about Skellig Soaps and she was right...lovely! Alice was delightful and creates the most beautiful soaps as well as takes amazing photographs! Be sure to stop in and buy some of her items!

The poppy exfoliating bar is fab. Best exfoliator I have come across and it lathers and smells beautifully. The shop in Cahirsiveen is such a lovely place with all kinds of delights & they provide a great online service too.

I have white/ grey hair which always had a yellow tinge to it. The hairdresser said to use the purple shampoo, but I didn’t like it. Then I discovered Alice’s shampoo bars they are amazing my hair has never looked better no more yellow bits.

Love Skellig Soaps.. my skin feels & smells great when I use them..!! Love supporting an Irish Craft Business like this with a natural product, the quality is so good. Alice is so easy to deal with, I ring my bulk order as I don't live near her lovely shop.. the smell when I open the soap delivery box is the best... keep up the good work..!!!
Dinny A — Google review
If you are visiting Kerry or live here, Alice's Skellig Soaps is a MUST visit! The shop itself is totally photo-worthy-- creative, beautiful and ever changing. Today, there is lavender growing in window boxes. On a bright day with the door of the shop propped open, you can smell delectable things ALL up and down the high street. The soap itself is wonderful, made of natural ingredients often locally sourced such as furze blossom, seaweed and farmer Sean's goat milk. I use Alice's soap at every sink in my house. It lasts so long that it takes ages before I can try a new one! If you are looking for a gift to take home that is truely Irish and hand-crafted (that your friends and family will love), Alice's soap is the absolute best!

Petit Delice is a charming café in Cahersiveen that offers an exceptional selection of pastries and coffee. The cozy atmosphere features unique décor with reused shipping pallets and coffee bean sacks, creating a cool ambiance. Visitors rave about the delicious pastries, including the sourdough bread and a variety of tempting treats like caramel eclair and chocolate hazelnut cake.
Great coffee and pastries, we tried the americano and cappuccino, both excellent, intense but balanced between bitterness and acidity, pastry was delicious, surprisingly - we also found sourdough here, so added a rye sourdough - and it was delicious!!! The deco is interesting, reuse shipping pallet and coffee bean sags, so cool

Petit Délice is an absolute gem! We loved everything about this coffee shop—the service was exceptional, the prices were reasonable, and the food was incredibly fresh. We enjoyed tea, soup, a panini, and an éclair, all of which tasted just like home. What really stood out was the warm hospitality we received. While other cafes in the area had already stopped serving by 4 PM, claiming they were closing, the two delightful girls at Petit Délice welcomed us warmly. They even brought us water upon request, whereas the previous cafe had limited water service. Their kindness and attentiveness made our visit even more enjoyable. Highly recommended!
Reda K — Google review
Wonderful little cakes, cookies, croissants sweet and salty, great salad(love the mustard dressing) and an unbelievable good brown sourdough bread!!! (Don't compare the prices with German bread prices, but for a German living here it is worth every cent) Whenever I go to Cahirsiveen, I stop in Petit Delice. It's great to have this café here in the area!!!

Absolutely perfect little cafe in Cahersiveen. I loved it so much I came back the next day again for breakfast. Pictured is rose petal tea, a fabulous and unusual watermelon and violet cake, and a vegetarian croissant filled with bechamel, mushroom, tomato, spinach and cheese. Huge selection of tempting pastries and patisserie. Seems actually in a French tradition. The caramel eclair and chocolate hazelnut cake were also delicious. Highly recommend.

Had the most delicious meal in Eva's. It was without a doubt the best freshly cooked food we have had in years!. The vegetables were cooked once we placed our order and were done to perfection a rare thing to find nowadays. We couldn't recommend Eva's highly enough and Jack who cooked the food should be very proud of the food he is serving. Our server was so pleasant and made our dining experience all the better. Also place is spotless and we look forward to another visit.

We was here cause the oratory was fully booked. And it was the luckiest coincidence ever. Evas is straight above the street on the other side. So we walked in even if the restaurant was completely empty, but: The food was unbelievably delicious!! We had four mains and two starters. All of them was extraordinary good! We had pork ribs which was soo tender, that the meat came off the bone just from having a slight look at it. ;) We also got the Malaysian curry, which also was absolutely on point and truly authentic. The waitress was super super friendly and it took less then 10 minutes for the food to arrive at the table. Complimentary bread was given which also had a very special and awesome taste. All in all a perfect and unexpected dining experience which I can't recommend enough tho. 12/10! We'll come again :)
Bjørn — Google review
We just walked out of this Restaurant. I made a booking for for a family of 5. When we arrived the restaurant was busy but not packed. We were seated at a lovely spot by the window with a view of the church across the road. It was fifteen minutes before we got menu's, husband had to ask twice!. We ordered and were left sitting for an hour, can you imagine the scenario with 3 young hungry children😱. At one point they gave us a bread basket with the presumption that food was imminent, it wasn't, so we eventually left. Honestly we were so disgusted. We don't eat out often so it was going to be a treat. Why take a booking that you can't manage, I can only put it down to greed. Be careful with reviews and ask locals before you decide where to dine because internet reviews can be very deceiving.

Walsh's SuperValu Caherciveen is a discount supermarket chain that focuses on offering its own-brand groceries and Irish produce. Customers have praised the store for its well-stocked shelves, wide range of products, and helpful staff. Some visitors were impressed by the spotlessly clean bathrooms and reasonable prices. The supermarket offers a huge variety of fresh fruit, baked goods, groceries, ready prepared meals, household goods, and even great ice cream.

Expensive, but I think that's just Ireland. Decent selection including many locally produced items. Great service and I like that the shops are locally owned. So much better than buying from the German shops who are trying to take over.

Seafood restaurant
Located in Portmagee, the Fisherman's Bar & Skellig Restaurant offers a delightful dining experience. The seafood chowder is hailed as one of the best in the world, leaving visitors craving for more. The seafood platter is a must-try, featuring fresh and flavorful selections that turn any day around. Despite being busy, the service remains friendly and efficient. The fried fish here is described as exceptional, with perfect breading and generous portions.
We stayed the night in Portmagee, and we were told to have our dinner at Fisherman’s Bar. All we can say is… they didn’t disappoint, both our meals were a 10 out of 10! Fresh lobster topped off with fresh local crab that had a generous serving of fried chips and salad… and I had the yummy fresh fried Hake with chips and salad! Our dessert was absolutely delicious and fresh we had a sticky toffee pudding with ice cream! This was the first time I ever enjoyed a sticky toffee pudding as everything was just absolutely delicious and well balanced! 10 out of 10 would recommend.

What an excellent lunch! We had the best seafood chowder after a chilly boat trip out to the skellig islands. Followed it up with mains and filled up for a long drive. The team was getting super busy w a tour bus that pulled up but that didn't impact our experience or service at all. They were excellent and the food was delicious. Highly recommend!
Angie R — Google review
Went in on a Sunday night and it was quite busy but managed to get a table. Ordered seafood platter for 2 and steak. The seafood was ok - we liked the prawns the most. The steak isn’t seasoned so you need to add your own salt to suit. But the rest wasn’t so goods - fries: they are from frozen ones and probably been deep fried 2 times as they were really really dry and not edible imo - the seafood platter fried squid were so thin it felt we were just eating the panko We told them about the fries but they said it was all like that as it’s been fried… but it’s really the worst I’ve eaten . We weren’t asked how the food was in the end and just paid and left. I wouldn’t recommend this restaurant - certainly didn’t have the experience of other guests
Jason J — Google review
Fisherman’s Bar is a top choice on the island for anyone after hearty food and a good pint. Their burger and seafood chowder are standouts—fresh, and served in generous portions. The drinks are equally satisfying we enjoyed a very nice Guinness, and the atmosphere is relaxed yet lively, especially when live events are on. It’s a popular spot, so booking a table is a smart move, but whether you’re after a full meal, a few drinks, or just a laid-back evening, it’s a solid pick.

Hands down the best seafood platter I have ever had in my life. Absolutely outstanding. Gorgeous day to sit outside on their patio, overall an amazing experience!
Michael K — Google review
We did the Skellig Michael tour and our guide recommended the Fisherman for good seafood, ordered platter for two and chowder, delicious and so much on the platter needed help from chowder lads to finish, got table service outside, great sunny day, bar inside was cosy and snug as well, only slight hitch seemed to be coffee orders but a minor quibble for an otherwise marvellous spot to feast of some magnificent Irish seafood, à must visit if that is your fancy 😀

Nestled is a lovely little port village, this was a great place to fuel up. I think seating can be hot or miss, we were outside across the street which was fine on a terrific day. Food was tasty, we tried the Fish and Chips, Cottage Pie and the Ribeye. No complaints at all!
Karl P — Google review
So good we ate here twice. We had the seafood platter, the duck rolls, the lightly battered scampi, and the seafood chowder. If I had the stomach to eat everything on the menu I would. But I also rate their service and hospitality 5/5. It is why I returned and recommend this place to all visitors in town.

The hotel also provides convenient parking at the back of the property.
Unfortunately no rooms left but the barman kindly provided contact details for local accommodation. Returned later in the evening- relaxed, welcoming atmosphere- outstanding staff- attentive, polite, professional and there for you to enjoy your evening. Had mussels as a main followed by sticky toffee pudding with ice cream and fruit. A truly delicious meal, tasty, stylish but not pretentious. I would highly highly recommend this eatery- congratulations to all the staff and owner for their great work

Fabulous clean rooms with lots of space, charm and information. Breakfast was lovely in the room and fresh pastries delivered in the morning. Would recommend. We didn't manage to get a booking for food as the restaurant was fully booked but had a lovely meal nearby. Staff were welcoming helpful and friendly. Great for a couples get away or a traveller looking for some comforts.
Majella D — Google review
This review is for the restaurant not the hotel. We were passing by town and wanted to have dinner. We arrived to the restaurant, the server asked if we had a reservation, and we said no. Then he offered that we could seat at the bar which we gladly accepted. We ordered promptly and this is where it started going downhill. After about 30 minutes, we got rhe starter we ordered and the we had to wait a total of 90 minutes to get the food! We were almost standing up to leave. The food was OK but making customers wait 90 mins is UNACCEPTABLE. What made it worse is the manager: She came in and we politely told her food was good but the wait was unacceptable. Instead of making it up to us she BLAMED us for their POOR service stating: “You had no reservation and our kitchen is fully booked with the reserved tables”. If your kitchen cannot handle walk ins, why did you let us in? If your kitchen needs to make walk in customers wait 90 minutes to be served, how about you TELL those customers before seating them? This is the first time ever that a restaurant blames the customers for their own lack of kitchen capacity and poor service! Avoid this restaurant at all costs, they will mistreat you.

My wife and I stayed recently for our golden wedding anniversary and had a wonderful experience. The room ( Barr na Sraide) was excellent, the breakfast innovative and delicious and the meal in the restaurant outstanding. We have eaten in some of the best restaurants in Ireland, the UK and Europe and our meal on Saturday was easily in the top bracket. The presentation was excellent, the flavours outstanding and the service easily reached the same standards. All superbly orchestrated by Anthony and the very talented kitchen team. A total success on this special occasion. We are already looking forward to our next visit.

We came on a rainy day without a reservation and were lucky to get seated, even if it was at a tiny table. The staff went above and beyond by moving us to a larger one once it opened up. I had the ribeye, which was fine on its own but excellent with the sauce, easily a 5/5. My girlfriend’s salmon spaghetti was the real highlight. Definitely order that if you get a table here. My only complaint is that the food takes a really long time.
Tony Y — Google review
My friend and I stayed here on a "Ring of Kerry" booked tour, and we both agreed that this was one of our favorite spots. It's not the most ultra-luxurious in some ways, but it hit all of the right notes for us - clean, charming, a lovely property, but most of all, superb staff and the MOST delicious food. The owner comes from a family that fishes and her brother owns the fresh fish shop across the way - hence, the freshest seafood I had in Ireland. The mussels were so good we had to order a second plate. The food is not limited to the restaurant: the morning breakfast supplied to each room involves fresh croissant and pain aux raisins brought to your door, the most sumptuous yoghurt and rhubarb compote in the fridge (I ate both), smoked salmon and a lovely brie cheese. In short, nothing was lacking and the place had the most charm and care of anywhere we went. Would definitely go back.

“We stayed for one night and loved it! The room was perfect, and the colorful tiles in the bathroom were such a nice touch. We arrived late at night and had to call to check in — the staff were so kind and welcoming, showing us where to park, helping us to our room, and explaining everything clearly. Wonderful experience!

Omg you want a great place to stay then stay here. They are super nice and the rooms are awesome. Skellig Six18 Distillery and Visitor Experience is a premium artisan Irish gin distillery that takes its name from the nearby Skellig Rocks, a UNESCO world heritage site. The distillery is currently expanding to include a new whiskey distillery. Visitors can take a tour of the facility and learn about its history and production processes. The tour includes a tasting session where guests can sample the distillery's artisan gin and new whiskey creation.
Recently, we visited Skellig Six 18 with a group of 11 people, and everyone was very happy. The tour was well-organized, and our guide, Tonny, deserves special thanks. He not only shared interesting facts about whiskey production but also created a great atmosphere, making the visit fun and informative. I also want to mention the special touch – the sound of ocean waves playing through speakers at the distillery. It adds a unique feeling and reminds you of the nature and history of this place. We were pleasantly surprised by such details. I highly recommend visiting Skellig Six 18 to anyone traveling to this region. It’s an unforgettable experience!

Lovely distillery on the beautiful West coast of Ireland. Stopped by on the way back from sightseeing as the previous day we had visited the Skellig Islands. Had a short wait for a distillery tour and tasting. More for my wife than me as I dont really like Whisky, however I do enjoy a gin and really enjoyed theirs. We brought a bottle of Whisky home with us too. After our tour it turns out I left my credit card in the shop, so a big thank you to Cathal for telling me and keeping it safe.

Skellig Six18 Brewery Tour Fantastic experience from start to finish. The highlight being the tasting at the end. We got to sample both whiskey and gin. The whiskey was smooth and warming while the gin tasted pure and exiting on the palate - even neat. I highly recommend both of these spirits. Our guide Cathal was knowledgeable and friendly while delivering a very interesting, professional and insightful tour. Well worth the visit.
Max T — Google review
Absolutely loved this tour! One of the best we have been on (and we have been to a few both back home in Canada and in Scotland). The tour host, Trish, was incredibly knowledgeable and gracious with her time and engagement. As they distill both gin and whiskey it is like getting two tours in one and despite having done whiskey tours before we feel like we still learned a few new things. The whiskey and gin are phenomenal and the whiskey is shockingly smooth considering the young age (you learn why on the tour). The gin is a bit dangerous as it has no bite and is all flavour. Wish we had more room in our bags to take more home. Could not recommend enough - we are so glad we stopped in for this. One of the highlights of the trip so far.

The best food and ambiance in Ballinskelligs. I ate here twice during my stay, and both times the fresh bread, homemade soup and sandwiches were delicious and reasonably priced. Tea and scones were also excellent. Take a stroll around the galleries and peruse the books and art made by the residents at their artists' retreat just outside of town, which is world-renowned. A lovely place to spend a couple of hours.

We wanted to visit as are both interested in art, artists ourselves and community projects. The place was very dimly lit and not very inviting. It got worse, as we were admiring some stunning oil paintings with beautiful lighting, an elderly women came and spoke to us briefly then told us we had to leave as an American couple had just bought a very expensive piece of art and she was closing the gallery to take them to her retreat! Not at all bothered that we might have wanted to buy art too! Very poor customer care. Will not be going back.

Really cool art gallery just off the Ring of Kerry that highlights local and international art. Worth a visit by anyone who appreciates art. Some lovely pieces on display at this centre. No admission charge at the time of writing.

Not the place it seems. When I was there, I noticed that when the artists come in for lunch or coffee they expect top quality service. They act like they're above everyone. The owner of the centre just seems to treat it like a base where she can just get together with her fellow elites. I also noticed that some of staff there were also unpaid and simply just interns. The overall ethos there is just false.

This lovely art centre is full of beautiful art, from artists from all over the world, many who have stayed at Cill Rialaig artists' retreat. Yesterday I saw an impressive exhibition by Dominika, of exceptional sea scenes, inspired by this beautiful area.

Very good wood fired pizzas here with very generous cheesy toppings and excellent base. Staff were lovely and boxed up left overs. Service was a little slow as they only have the one oven but the surroundings in the gallery are lovely and you can take a walk around while you walk. Only one option for the wine and only one option for desserts.

A gorgeous location, especially the artists studios in the old famine village. Wonderful artwork produced there

We were a party of three, who arrived at 8pm, when dinner had just ended. The chef very kindly agreed to us having dinner despite this. We all went with the fish of the day - pan-fried hake, smoked salmon risotto, green beans and salsa verde. The food was exquisite - very fresh and extremely delicious. Service was impeccable, with a very friendly server behind the bar.

We had a wonderful 3 night stay 17-20th August, The room was spacious, clean and recently upgraded. Our host Jessica n Leonard were friendly and managed our request immediately. A good selection of breakfast served, Jessica took time to do her own research to advice us on halal option. A great base to explore Ring Of Kerry, Skellig ring and Port Magee. Recommended

Stopped by for dinner last week. The chicken was lovely, the mash was gorgeous and the rhubarb crumble was a bit too sweet, but the ice cream compliments it. I will be back.
