Miaouli Square, located in the heart of Ermoupolis on the island of Syros, is a grand 19th-century square adorned with neoclassical municipal buildings and palm trees. This majestic marble square serves as the vibrant center of the island, featuring a music stage embellished with depictions of Apollo and the muses, charming cafes, and a striking statue honoring Admiral Andreas Miaoulis from the Greek war of independence.
Beautiful Square, lots of history definitely worth a visit. Well maintained, easy to find. Parking available. Toilets nearby. Very clean. Can be short on shade if in summer.
Con B — Google review
Worth a visit that is a large square for visitors and locals to hang out. There are benches to sit and watch the locals. There are restaurants and shops nearby. If you’re in the area, make sure you visit the old town hall which is steps away.
Melanie E — Google review
You should walk in the Town Hall for a few minutes if you’re strolling around town. The city hall also serves as the lower and intermediate court and there’s a cafe frequented by lawyers and their (arrested) clients. The second floor host the mayor’s office and the city council’s deliberation chamber - that is quite well presented with large paintings from the last century and quite out of place for an island in the Cyclades
Konstantinos R — Google review
Amazing square where all young and old gather once the heat of the day has passed. Beautiful with many shops and places to eat surrounding.
Chad R — Google review
One of the best and more vibrant spots on Ermoupoli. Nice and big square, with an interesting architecture. Situated in the heart of the town. Surrounding by a variety of shops. Do not miss a visit to the glorious town hall of Syros when strolling around.

Miaouli square is at the heart of Ermoupolis Syros. In front of the square there's a Andreas Miaoulis statue with two cannons and behind that you can see maybe the most beautiful Town Hall in Greece, the Syros municipal Town Hall. There are palm trees outside of the building as you can see in the photos.

Performing arts theater
The Apollon Theater in Hermoupolis, Syros, is a must-see attraction that reflects the island's rich cultural heritage. This 19th-century theater, modeled after Milan's La Scala, stands as a symbol of the town's cultural prosperity and hosts impressive performances throughout the year. The venue is renowned for hosting events such as Animasyros and the Festival of the Aegean, featuring exceptional classical music performances.
Such a priceless experience watching the performance of The Barber of Seville in Italian from a box on the side of the stage. The venue is of astonishing beauty, it seats maybe around 150 people which makes every performance very intimate.
Dimitra K — Google review
The show was sold out but we were told we can get last minute tickets at the door. We were there 30 mins before the show, told to wait out which we did. People were queuing up and tickets were being checked but suddenly stopped because there was a mass of ticketless people and behind them the people with tickets lining up - what a mess. No crowd control whatsoever. Everyone was just standing still and waiting for either their tickets to be checked or to be allowed to go in. So we never made it in because the chaos was already the show. I give the star for the love of arts, the artists performing and the building but the staff needs a crowd control class.
Incisu U — Google review
It was built in 1862-1864 according to designs by Italian architect Pietro Sampò and inaugurated on 20 April 1864.
Mustafa H — Google review
An interesting place, worth a visit. Very well maintained. There is a tiny museum. It becomes more interesting if you read the history of the theater before going. Check online, if you are lucky, there will be an ongoing opera or a theatre play.
Julia M — Google review
One of the best places to see on Syros island. Entrance of 2€ applies. Helpful employees. The theater itself is well maintained and there is a small museum at the top floor.
Vivianna K — Google review
A visit to the Apollo Theater is an essential part of any trip to Ermoupoli. This beautiful building is a powerful symbol of the island's immense cultural and economic boom in the 19th century. It was constructed rapidly between 1862 and 1864 to designs by the Italian architect Pietro Sampò. Although the exterior is relatively simple and neoclassical, the interior is where the magic lies. Sampò was reportedly inspired by at least four Italian theaters, including the famous La Scala in Milan, earning the Apollo the nickname "La Piccola Scala" (The Little Scala). The theater officially opened on April 20, 1864, with a performance of Verdi's "Rigoletto". The velvet seats and ornate ceiling paintings (restored later) create an atmosphere of pure 19th-century elegance. Even if you don't attend a performance, just stepping inside to see the beautiful auditorium is worth it.
Παντελής Δ — Google review
Lovely theater - well worth it to catch a show here. Instead of an orchestra seat you should go for the mezzanine or upper story cubicles (helps with COVID too as nobody is wearing masks). Note: (almost) no AC during shows. Dress light!
Konstantinos R — Google review
One of the most beautiful theatres I’ve saw. The 2€ entry fee is defo worth paying. The theatre resembles the famous Scalia from Milan. It’s really nice decorated and preserved. The staff working there is friendly and helpful.

The Church of Agios Nikolaos is a stunning Byzantine church located near Miaouli Square in Ermoupoli, Syros. Dating back to 1870, it features a magnificent silver-plated icon of St. Nicholas crafted in Moscow. The church boasts a large blue dome and an exquisite square at the front entrance, making it one of the most beautiful Orthodox churches in Ermoupoli. Its architecture combines elements of Christian, Orthodox, Catholic, and ancient Greek styles.
Absolutely Beautiful!!! Such a nice church to visit. Dress appropriately, be respectful and you'll enjoy this magnificent orthodox church. The attention to detail and size is just astonishing. Not so much parking so I would go on foot. Pay a donation, light a candle. I would return and recommend. I was here for a wedding service and it was so beautiful.
Con B — Google review
The church itself and the icon of Saint Nicholas are worth "10 Stars"..!! but the lady at the church who was looking after the church needs to be informed or removed as she has no idea and telling people not to take photos or videos when in fact is a church where many weddings and Baptisms are help !! She kept interrupting every time anyone tried to take a photo!

This beautiful Orthodox Church of Agios Nikolaos (Saint Nicholas) is located close to Miaouli Square. It is dedicated to Saint Nicholas, who is the town’s patron saint. Its interior is impressive with marble throughout its interior and crystal chandeliers. This 19th century structure has two bell towers with a blue dome.

Naós Agíou Nikoláou - The Jewel of Syros Architecture The Naós Agíou Nikoláou (Saint Nicholas Church) in Ermoupolis is far more than just a place of worship; it is a monumental testament to the wealth, faith, and architectural prowess of Syros in its golden age. Its presence is immediately captivating, defining the skyline of the aristocratic Vaporia neighborhood. Imposing Grandeur and Design, This church is often recognized by its striking, elegant exterior. It features two magnificent bell towers and is a masterful blend of Byzantine and Western architectural styles. Built entirely of marble, the sheer size and intricate detailing of the facade—including the stunning clock—reflect the island's prosperity in the 19th century. Its stately position, commanding a view over the sea, makes it one of the most photographed structures on the island. Awe-Inspiring Interior, Stepping inside the church is an experience in itself. The interior is lavishly decorated with sumptuous frescoes, glittering chandeliers, and beautifully carved wooden iconostases. The opulent atmosphere is both grand and deeply moving, leaving visitors in awe of the craftsmanship and the dedication put into its preservation. It truly feels like a cathedral, providing a profound sense of peace and historical continuity. Location and Vaporia Views, The church’s location in Vaporia is perfect. After admiring the architecture, you can enjoy walking through the scenic streets of this neighborhood, which is often referred to as the "Little Venice" of Syros due to its seaside mansions. The views from the church grounds over the sparkling Aegean Sea are absolutely breathtaking, especially at sunset. A visit to Naós Agíou Nikoláou is essential for anyone exploring Syros. It is a stunning beacon of faith, history, and architectural beauty that is truly unforgettable.

Restaurant
San Michali Food & Culture offers a delightful culinary experience with its exquisite local cheese varieties like San Michali cheese, xynotyro, marathotyri and gruyere that complement every dish perfectly. The restaurant has a newly renovated space with tasteful decor and excellent service. It provides fresh, locally grown food with free-range and vegetarian options. The location offers a stunning view of the ocean, while the staff is friendly and attentive.
A five senses experience. Possibly the best place in Syros. It is open almost all day. You can go from 10.00 in the morning for brunch and coffee, then have lunch at noon, dinner in the evening and amazing cocktails at night. All that with breathtaking views to the Aegean sea in a location that makes you feel as if you are on a low altitude flight. From one side Tinos and Myconos in the background on the other side a deserted island with a light house and the famous Vaporia neighborhood of Ermoupoli. And as if all this is not enough, when the food comes your palet is rewarded from unique tasteful food from a talented young chef. Prime seasoned meats, Greek plates with a twist to accommodate local products. Food beyond the ordinary. And don't forget to taste the sweets at the end. Once you finish dinner you can move to the bar where you can enjoy interesting cocktails or any other liquor you prefer at the sounds of music that suits the scenery. Overall a very well designed and placed all day - restaurant with extremely friendly and polite staff. Bonus is the municipal parking right above the restaurant, making it one of the few that you can park your car 1 min away in the whole of Ermoupoli. A must visit secret jewel of Syros P. S. A mind popping location overlooking the ocean and a fantastic array of interesting and innovative foods made this a very memorable experience. The staff were friendly and funny and made our visit even more pleasant. The wines were also fantastic. Undoubtedly one of the best restaurants on Syros. Sometimes the dishes seemed a little too over engineered at the expense of the taste but they were certainly inventive and we didn't leave hungry! Don't miss this place.

Came here for the first time yesterday after having a less than excellent time last year at our usual spot nearby. I must say we were VERY impressed and now have a NEW favorite spot! The place is newly renovated with tasteful decor, inside and out. The service was excellent! Attentive and very helpful with our choices. It's very clean with no cats meowing for food as other places have. The food is very fresh, locally grown and delicious! Free range and vegetarian options available. You must come here if visiting Syros, it's worth the drive out of town for this gem! Try to visit during sunset so you can also see the magnificent views! I'm including some pictures of the chicken, free range pork and spare ribs we had. Also you must try the amazing fried potatoes! 5 stars all the way!

Anástasis (Church of the Resurrection of Christ)

4.8

Greek Orthodox church
Anástasis, also known as the Church of the Resurrection of Christ, is perched atop Vrodados Hill in Ermoupoli, offering breathtaking views of the Aegean Sea and the city below. The church was constructed in 1870 on the site originally intended for a Greek Revolution memorial. Visitors can reach Anástasis by car or enjoy a scenic walk through Vrontado, a serene residential area with abandoned yet picturesque houses.
Beautiful Greek Orthodox Church on top of a hill with amazing view of Syros. Really worth the effort to get there!
Alberto S — Google review
The Orthodox Church of Resurrection is located on the top of Vrodados Hill, overlooking the Aegean sea and the city of Ermoupoli unfolding beneath, it was built in 1870, on the spot where a memorial of the Greek Revolution was supposed to be erected. To visit the church, you can do it by car or on feet, in our case we preferred walking to the top whilst enjoying the views and taking photos of the alleys and the traditional white and blue facades, very representative of the greek islands. Once we arrived at the top, we sit a little beneath a tree to enjoy the breathtaking views of Ermoupoli harbour and its surroundings, the walking to the top is not as bad as you could expect, I could say it worth the effort. The church has many neo-classical architectonic elements, specially identified in its exterior, and inside, it follows the same architectonical design with numerous magnificent frescoes, many of which are of major artistic and historic significance, being the marble the most dominant used material. We wished to do some aerial footage with our drone, but unfortunately this day was outstanding windy being not possible for our drone to take off without losing it, just keep in mind this if you are planning to do the same.
Carlos R — Google review

Markos Vamvakaris Exhibition

4.2
(795)
Heritage museum
The Markos Vamvakaris Exhibition, nestled in the heart of Ano Syros near the bustling Piatsa, pays tribute to one of Greece's most iconic musicians and songwriters. Established in 1995 within a charming old house, this intimate museum showcases memorabilia that reflects Vamvakaris' life and his profound impact on rebetiko folk music—a genre that resonated deeply with the urban working class during the early 20th century.
*GoogleMaps Open Hours listing is INCORRECT* if you’re going to Ano Syros and have any interest in music, I highly recommend a quick stop. Unique, very small but also very interesting as we didn’t know anything about Markos or this type of Greek music before visiting. Definitely worth the €2 especially since the young lady played some of Markos’s music while we viewed the pictures and other personal items. Be sure to ask about hearing the music if it is not already playing.
Brandy Q — Google review
Small exhibition with some items and few info on Markos Vamvakaris life. It is only 2 euros but they definitely could do a better job by playing some music and giving more details about his life. Nice view from the balcony

Vasilis K — Google review
The museum is located at Ano Syros.Inside you can see some personal items of the song writer and singer Mark Vamvakaris such as his music instruments or his pipe, some notes written by him.He has played a big role into Greek traditional music and he is one of the most important people in Greek music. The ticket of the museum costs 2€.
Sakis K — Google review
This place is tiny for a museum. You can literally spend 10 minutes and still be able to see the whole thing. But, it does worth a visit when you are in Syros as you are able to find out all these interesting facts about M. Vamvakaris and also see some personal items, letters, photos and transcripts of the famous Greek composer.
Evgenia K — Google review
Yes it was March and only just opening for the year but.... I don't believe people are that interested in Markos's old watch or passport! - WE WANT TO HEAR THE MUSIC! - and there was absolutely none! A background of one of his many recordings playing should be the minimum. Examples of early and late recordings through headphones would be good. More about rebetiko, the instruments, the sound of them, the evolution of rebetiko and an example of a modern group playing? There is so much audio that could be done and IT COULD BE GREAT - especially if a keen rebetiko player became involved with this museum.
Robert E — Google review
Museum dedicated to Markos Vamvakaris, the Master of Rebetiko music, born and raised in Syros, If you by any chance bump into his autobiography in English, dont miss the chance to read it! It will be one of the best reads ever! Check the review by New York Times and the Guardian for more info!! Markos was indeed one of the most interesting and fascinating characters to come out of 20th century Greece!

The Catholic Cathedral of Saint George, also known as Agios Georgios, has a rich history dating back to 1200 AD and has been rebuilt several times. The present church, built in 1834, is adorned with magnificent decorations and significant paintings such as the Lady of Hope, revered by Syrian Catholics. Situated on the hill of Anos Syros, it offers a different experience from other Greek-Orthodox churches in Greece.
Visiting Saint George's Cathedral in Ano Syros is an enchanting journey into the heart of Cycladic charm and spiritual serenity. Perched atop the picturesque hill of Ano Syros, this historic Catholic cathedral offers a mesmerizing blend of architectural beauty, cultural richness, and breathtaking views. As you ascend the narrow, cobblestone streets leading to the cathedral, you’re greeted by a maze of whitewashed buildings adorned with vibrant bougainvillea. The journey itself feels like a step back in time, offering glimpses of the island's medieval character and tranquility. The cathedral, dating back to the 13th century, is an awe-inspiring sight with its elegant facade and understated charm. Inside, the serene atmosphere is complemented by simple yet beautiful decor, featuring a blend of Catholic and Cycladic elements. The stained glass windows and intricate altar details tell stories of faith and devotion that have endured through centuries. One of the highlights of the visit is the panoramic view from the cathedral’s courtyard. Overlooking the Aegean Sea, the town of Ermoupolis, and the rolling hills of Syros, the vista is nothing short of magical, especially during sunset. The peaceful silence combined with the stunning scenery makes it a perfect spot for quiet reflection or simply soaking in the beauty of the moment. Whether you’re drawn by history, spirituality, or the allure of the Cyclades, Saint George's Cathedral is a must-visit destination in Ano Syros. It’s a place where the past and present harmoniously converge, leaving visitors with a sense of wonder and a deep appreciation for the island’s cultural heritage.

What a beautiful church perched atop the mountain in Ano Syros! We took a cab to the top (as recommended by everyone we met that are local) and re-iterate the intelligence of that decision as this church has many steps to the top! While visiting Syros my friends and I went to this restaurant. The falafel and the spring rolls where very nice, but I ordered the mushroom pasta which can be made vegan by swapping the cheese for "vegan" cheese (at least the menu and the waiter said so) and I asked the waiter three times to please make it vegan, because I am extremely lactose intolerant. When the food was brought out I noticed Feta Cheese in it. My friends also tried it and were 100% sure that that was not vegan Feta Cheese. I grabbed my plate and went inside to tell them and then the waiter, the owner and the cook tried to convince me that it was vegan. Only after I told them that I am allergic to dairy one of them said that they have to make me a new plate, because "maybe there was some leftover cheese in the pan". I got the new plate and this time there was no Feta in it luckily. It tasted okay. I understand that sometimes people make mistakes and orders get mixed up, but I am so angry that they straight up lied to me and only started taking me seriously after I told them I was allergic. I will not go there again

The main was out of this world, and the desert was like nothing I could ever dream of. I had the shrimp starter, Beef fillet, and loukoumi rose petal ice cream for dessert. The atmosphere was excellent. The waiting staff was really attentive and I have nothing but compliments for the chef and the staff for this exceptional experience. It’s a must visit for anyone on the island!

the food deserves high praise—each bite was a delight—but the service fell short. If the front-of-house team can raise its level of care, attentiveness, and responsiveness to match that of the kitchen, this restaurant would offer an unforgettable all-around dining experience.

Nice setting, good service — but overpriced for what you get The restaurant has a beautiful setting and a really nice atmosphere. Staff were friendly and welcoming, and the food we had was tasty. However, the menu was quite limited and the portions were on the small side. Prices felt more in line with high-end restaurants in larger European cities, but the overall quality didn’t quite match that level. A pleasant experience, but not the best value for money.

A truly unique experience. The inner courtyard is beautiful and peaceful, hidden from the busy streets by vine-covered walls. The staff make you feel really welcome and well taken care of. The food is excellent, both in quality and flavor, and just when you think you’re done, the bill comes with complimentary mini cakes and pies. Definitely recommend!

What an incredible experience. The setting is stunning in a quiet garden in the middle of Syros. The decorations are tasteful and we enjoyed a wonderful evening with friends. The food was spectacular, some of the best dishes I’ve tried ever. Generous portions for the price and beautifully displayed. One of our friends is vegetarian and the kitchen kindly adjusted dishes to accommodate her. Caroline was very kind and attentive and there to explain ok our dishes (in English, French, and Dutch!). 100% would recommend!

One of THE best dining experiences I've ever had and definitely the best one in Greece! We had the crispy shrimp starter, beef fillet, tagliollini pasta, and chocolate and loukoumi rose petal ice cream desserts paired with a local rose wine. The lovely atmosphere, exceptional service and incredible food all contributed to an out of this world experience! Truly one of the most phenomenal evenings we've had. I would rate it 10 out of 5 if I could! Can't wait to come back!

There are places you visit where everything simply feels right — and this charming restaurant, tucked away in a peaceful courtyard, is exactly that. The tranquil setting creates a calm, intimate atmosphere that feels like an escape from the busy city. The food is truly exceptional. Each dish was beautifully presented, perfectly balanced in flavor, and made with high-quality, carefully selected ingredients. You can taste the passion and craftsmanship in every bite — from the starters to the dessert, everything was flawless. Equally impressive was the service: genuinely warm, attentive, and professional without being intrusive. The staff made us feel welcome from the first moment and were happy to share their knowledge of the menu and wines with enthusiasm and care. In short, this restaurant offers a rare combination of outstanding cuisine, heartfelt service, and a setting that invites you to relax and enjoy. A true culinary treasure that deserves every bit of praise.

Sta Vaporia, which means "on ships" in Greek, is a charming district in Ermoupolis known for its well-preserved mansions dating back to the 1850s. This aristocratic quarter was once home to wealthy sea captains and now features some of these historic buildings converted into boutique hotels. The area boasts the beautiful Square of Miaoulis and the grand neoclassical Town Hall designed by Ernst Ziller.
Beautiful little place, with lovely indoor seating and open windows across the sea, as well as a gorgeous little terrace just down the hill. The brunch menu goes until 5pm so expect brunch foods! The service was fast and friendly, the price was good, and the food was excellent. The view was also beautiful.

Great place at the best spot of our favorite beach in Syros. Excellent service, tasty and healthy food! One day we were in a rush cause our ferry was leaving and they served us super quick! Thanks :)

Nice views, however the food was average at best. The menu is very limited to only few dishes, therefore I expexted great cullinary experience. However the price tag of 20 - 30 EUR per dish does not meet quality, taste and size of portion.

One of the most picturesque spots in Syros by far!! Excellent views for a coffee, lunch or dinner. Do not miss their home made lemonade from freshly squeezed local lemons:) Good quality of snacks and coffee. Can't comment on food, as the kitchen was still closed when we went. I would highly recommend booking a table in advance, especially if you are planning a visit for lunch or dinner. This place can get extremely busy!!

Excellent service overall. The staff is very polite and they are very willing to answer questions and suggest plates from the menu. The plates are interesting to try all of them with creative ideas. The view is also amazing as one can see Ermoupoli from high up. Definetely call to make a reservation so that you make sure you find a place as it can get pretty busy. Overall it is recommended for Syros as it offers a good balance of food and scenery.

Great views, and excellent service with delicious food. The fish was cooked very well and had some delicious veggies on the plate. However the food was quite expensive - €9.50 for a Greek salad and €18-20 for mains is a lot more than other places on Syros. I suppose with the beautiful views, you should expect this. It had a touristy vibe - It’s not traditional Greek food, also they were out of non alcoholic beer and said they only usually have Heineken free (which was disappointing considering all the amazing local Greek brands they could choose like Fix, Eza, Mythos, etc).

Delicious meal in a lovely location. We ordered the lamb (deliciously soft) and the kids got the burgers (teriyaki sauce gives it a sweet kick but very good). The Greek salad was also delicious.

A relaxed laneway cafe in Ermoupoli. The food is fresh and delicious and the coffee is excellent. It’s is one of the cafes we return to each visit to Syros. The food is served in handmade ceramics made on Syros. The staff are friendly.

Hidden gem of a coffee spot. Surprisingly good cold brew! The yogurt dish was great as well. Would recommend as a great spot to relax and get out of the sun.

Coffee & juice was fine probably the only plus I can give this place. The food here is way too over the top and over complicated, the ingredients seem fresh but for example the scramble they have is just trying toooo hard especially with the activated charcoal mayo. The eggs were extremely soggy and the combination of the color scheme was extremely off putting. Waste of 32 euro very disappointed with my meal.

Best flat white we had in the Cyclades! Best shakshuka we ever had! It just absolutely perfect! You must try it! The service was quickly, the atmosphere is relaxed, they serve the best speciality coffee in the Cyclades, the food is amazing! You can also work from their terrace as they have a couple of power outlets;) I totally recommend it and will definitely come back!

Cute spot for a coffee if you don’t mind the wait during peak season. Unfortunately, I was very disappointed by the lack of allergen information and the absence of ANY gluten-free options on the menu. While the staff were lovely and polite, they were not knowledgeable about allergens, which in 2025 feels like a basic expectation for any place selling food. It seems more geared toward the “Instagram moment” than serious foodies. I’d recommend grabbing a coffee and an ice cream from the place across the street instead (they clearly do their homework and provide transparent allergen information).

Syros, a Greek island in the Cyclades, is known for its picturesque towns with historical buildings. The island seamlessly combines culture, entertainment, and religion. It was once a significant part of the Cycladic civilization and continues to uphold a rich cultural tradition. Ermoupolis, the capital of Syros, hosts various events such as the International Classical Music Festival of Cyclades and ANIMASYROS International Animation Festival.
Very nice island, the port area full of small streets with shops, bars and restaurants, Beautiful beaches, to discover more the island you can rent a scooter

A cute town that our cruise ship stopped at for the day. Lots of small shops and restaurants located throughout the town. The harbor is beautiful and imagine more so at night.

Syros has magical bays & crystal clear sea. Swimming there has been amazing. All private enterprises in Ermoupoli and other villages are amazing, shops & restaurants offer great food and lovely decor & ambience.. however the island municipality does nothing for its residents or tourists. Not enough buses, not enough taxis, the roads are not clean, even the main square in Ermoupoli (which is beautiful), you walk on dirt, there isn't a single metre that is clean. The lack of taxis is a serious problem, walking around isn't easy at all. Also, the rubbish isn't collected ofte enough. Finally, also very important, there's no shade provided on beaches, the heat is absolutely unbearable, there should be thousands of umbrellas on all the beaches provided free of charge by the town hall. You have to fight for shade under a tree, where lots of other people are, it's crowded and uncomfortable. We negotiated sun beds and umbrella with a hotel, the deal being we would buy breakfast and lunch from them every day. The island offers no services to tourists at all.
Valentina V — Google review

Ana V — Google review
Only the center where the marina is located is beautiful and it only takes a few hours to see. There is no need to stay a night in this island. Also the beaches are very windy and hard to swim. The beaches are mediocre with no toilets and facilities although you pay around 30-50 euros a set of umbrellas.
Secher C — Google review
I was there with cruise, nice town!
Peach P — Google review
Stunningly beautiful island, filthy beaches, dirty water. Shockingly rude staff and terrible service all around the island- in every aspect- hotel employees, taxi drivers, waiters, sales personnel- in Ermoupoli and the villages also. For seven days there and tons of our money spent there, there were exactly 3 businesses in total that did good job servicing us. Visibly different- much better treatment- for the US/Canadian tourist. Greek tourists were visibly not welcomed on this island. I have travelled to so many of the Greek island and never have seen such thing- EVER. My Greek husband was beyond shocked.

The Μουσείο Κλωστοϋφαντουργίας Ερμούπολης / Hermoupolis Heritage museum in Syros showcases the rich history and culture of the island. With a focus on the textile industry, it highlights the significant role that Syros played in industrial and mercantile activities during its early years.
This was such a fun way to learn about the once thriving textile industry on the island. This specific factory closed abruptly and to this day, no one knows why. Tour lasted an hour. We did NOT purchase the "lunch" meal option. I don't think it's necessary to get the full effect. We went end of September and purchased our tickets 2 days in advance. There were only 6 people in our group (max is 25)

Dimitris and his team have done wonders in turning this abandoned weaving plant into a monument of personal taste and creativity. A must for all visitors to Syros, as well as for event and conference organizers -this truly is one of Greece’s most inspiring and original venues..

What a mind-blowing experience. Walking through the rescued and impeccably restored textile factory, was like walking back in time and walking into an authentic experience in history. The space is beautifully restored with hundreds of original items exhibited. The atmosphere is mesmerising. You can also have a drink there in this beautiful space and absorb all the history and the vibes of a different era. If you understand Greek language DO NOT MISS the interactive theatrical monologue. The actress will take you through the factory while introducing you to real persons that used to work in the actual factory. JUST AMAZING… A MUST SEE ONCE IN A LIFETIME EXPERIENCE. Do not miss it…
Andrea A — Google review
Fascinating museum to visit on Syros in the old industrial part of Hermoupolis. Well worth the €10 entrance fee for this unique exhibit that has lovingly preserved the last textile factory on the island and a slice of Syros’ important industrial past. All the looms and machinery are frozen in time because of the factory’s abrupt closure in 1986. The old factory can also be rented for events, parties, weddings, etc. Tea and local goodie’s are included with entrance and the friendly guide gave us wonderful information.
Mike S — Google review
Perfect tour by Iliana. She provided a clear picture of the workings of the factory and how the workers operated the equipment. And of she ended with the mystery...why the factory closed. No answer just some guesses. Highly recommend as part of any visit to Syros.
Dottie P — Google review
What a fantastic experience! We did the 8pm tour in English and our guide was Elli. She was fantastic! Great communication skills and very friendly. The space is amazing and definitely you don't expect what you are going to see. We were lucky, cause we haven't researched a lot about it before hand which made the experience even more valuable. Highly recommended!
Danai S — Google review
The atmosphere in the “salvaged” old factory is very absorbing. The exhibition items are interesting but not unique. What was interesting was the hall were the old machinery was located . In any case 10 Euros entrance fee per person is on the high side. On the minus side it is difficult to locate the entrance and we nearly left without entering

The Archaeological Museum of Syros, located on Benaki street, is a small yet significant museum showcasing artifacts from the Neolithic era to the Roman period. Established in 1834, it is one of Greece's oldest museums and features valuable items such as an Egyptian statuette from 730 BC and Cycladic figurines and vases. The museum's most important finds are from Chalandriani, an ancient settlement on the east coast of Syros.
Not one of the larger museums, but a great find here. Looking to see more about the area and willing to pay a few euro, it's a great place to stop into.
Philip R — Google review
A charming, yet small exhibition with some historical facts and samples of antiquity. Would have liked it if they had a gift shop with some reproductions, books and tasteful items inspired by the exhibition. Since the collection is small, perhaps a video presentation could enhance the experience and give more context for the exhibits and the very interesting history of the archaeological dig.
Panagis M — Google review

Housed within the magnificent Syros Town Hall, designed by the famous architect Ernst Ziller, the Archaeological Museum of Syros is one of the oldest museums in Greece, founded way back in 1834/35. Though relatively small, it packs a historical punch, offering valuable insights into the island's rich past, particularly the Early Cycladic civilization. The collection features fascinating artifacts mainly from excavations across Syros, especially the important prehistoric sites of Chalandriani and Kastri. Key exhibits include distinctive Cycladic figurines, unique pottery like the "depas amphikypellon" cups, tools, weapons, and marble vessels dating back to the 3rd millennium BC. There are also interesting finds from the Classical and Roman periods found on the island. It provides a crucial context for understanding the significance of Syros in the Aegean through the ages. A worthwhile and informative visit for anyone interested in Cycladic history!
Παντελής Δ — Google review
There are a couple of neat artefacts in 2-3 small rooms but to call this a museum is a bit of a stretch. Milos and Naxos museums are far more impressive. I would have thought that the capital town of the Cyclades would have a comparable archaeological museum but that's not the case.

Kini Beach - The Sunset Paradise of Syros Kini Beach is arguably the most charming and atmospheric beach on Syros, offering a perfect blend of natural beauty, excellent amenities, and a truly unforgettable ambiance. It is especially famous for providing the most spectacular sunset views on the island—a must-see for any visitor. Idyllic Setting and Family Friendly, The beach features soft, golden sand and calm, shallow, clear waters, making it an ideal choice for families with small children. The water is protected, making swimming safe and relaxing. The view of the small fishing harbor, with its colorful boats gently rocking, adds to the quintessential Cycladic charm. Fantastic Amenities and Dining, Kini is perfectly organized without feeling overly crowded. You can easily find sunbeds and umbrellas for hire. What truly sets Kini apart is the array of superb tavernas and restaurants lining the waterfront. Reviewers consistently praise the quality of the seafood and the traditional Greek cuisine available here, allowing you to move directly from a refreshing swim to a delicious meal. The Magic of Sunset, The main event at Kini, however, is the sunset. As the sun dips below the horizon, painting the sky in dramatic shades of orange, pink, and purple, the entire beach and harbor are transformed. Dining at one of the waterfront tavernas during this time is a magical experience that epitomizes a perfect Greek island holiday. Kini Beach is a complete experience: beautiful swimming, great food, and mesmerizing sunsets. It is a definite highlight of any trip to Syros and highly recommended!

This is a wonderful beach and for me it is the best beach on the Island of Syros. You can walk out about 30 to 40 mtrs and only be about 3 foot deep. It is a sandy beach with very little stones, so it a very easy on your feet. You have many bars and restaurants running along the beach which are only 10 metres off the beach. Plenty of sunbeds to hire with umbrellas for some shade. Probably the best place to get food and drinks in the Blue Harmony Hotel, great service and very friendly staff. Also if you stay until the end of the day you will exposed to the most beautiful sunset straight in front of you across the sea, as you will see in the pictures attached. Well worth a visit.

Nice Mexican restaurant with good food. The garden is nicely secluded from the fuss of the outdoors and the menu is short yet tasteful. They can work on the cocktails though.

Restaurant
Dr Wine is an establishment in Ermoupoli that may deceive you with its name. Despite being a wine bar, it offers more than just an impressive wine selection and knowledgeable staff. This restaurant also serves quality dishes that complement their exquisite wines. The ambiance is laid-back, offering a beautiful view of the sea and featuring a modern atmosphere.
Great food and friendly staff! Everything was very delicious and freshly prepared. You have to try the Kritharwto with mushrooms and truffle oil, as it was absolutely amazing..would definitely visit again. Highly recommended place!

Wonderful food and delightful service. The nicest place on Syros to eat and drink wine. The food is a sensorial delight. The waiter is lovely. I cannot recommend too highly. Have a special evening here.

Exquisite wines paired with exquisite Greek recipes. Let yourself go of established ideas on Greek cuisine and give a carte blanche to the sommelier to take you on a unique culinary journey each time you visit. Dr. Wine truly brightened our holidays in Syros - a must try.

We visited this wine bar in Syros last week. We were actually looking for some other places suggested to us but we were disappointed by their music or feeling so we walked backwards to fortunately find this beautiful place. The wines they have are of very good quality and are usually accompanied by some delicious finger food and of course water is offered (for free) from the moment you sit down on the chairs. The man who owns the place is very well educated regarding wine and he has more than 300 bottles in his collection. If you are a wine lover you must visit Dr Wine!!!

Excellent little bar with a very very extensive wine menu. A great opportunity to try wines from across Greece and other countries. A short menu for sharing or to have on your own. Greek but not the usual fare.

Come for the wine AND food. We were curious if this was just a wine bar. But the food menu, while not large, will please anyone from vegetarian to keto etc. We got an education about Greek wine AND a delicious piece of steak for dinner.

Italian restaurant
Amvix is an air-conditioned Italian restaurant located near the ferry port in Syros, Greece. It's known for serving some of the best Italian cuisine on the island, offering fresh pizza dough and delicious salads. The rustic interior adds to its charm, making it a popular choice for both locals and visitors. Reservations are recommended due to its popularity. Additionally, Robertos Italian restaurant is another great option for traditional Italian recipes in the same area.
Great pizza spot serving cold draft beer next to the port. Came here before my ferry and to wait out the heat/time. Place has nice decor, bar and dining area plus outside seating. Ordered the spicy salami pizza. Pretty good pizza, wish it was cooked a bit more as the crust was too soft for my liking. Pizza comes is one size with 8 slices. Get a cold beer here before your ferry ride and have some Italian food.

Fantastic Italian restaurant with many scratch made options. There was a bit of a wait for us when we ate here and the host made sure to save us a table while we explored nearby shops during the short wait. When we arrived back she immediately sat us at our table. The excellent service continued with the wait staff and kitchen - all providing high level and excellent service. We sampled a variety of items and enjoyed them all. The pizza is cooked to perfection, the ravioli was divine. We especially enjoyed having melon and prosciutto - very authentic and very delicious. The end of meal sweet was equally as divine. Overall an excellent place to eat.

We came here for lunch today and was not disappointed. We got the caprese salad with the best drizzled olive oil I've tasted, homemade ravioli filled with spinach, ricotta in a sage brown butter sauce (highly suggested) and pizza with bacon, mushrooms and peppers. No complaints here. The service was very good also.
Katrina G — Google review
The food was absolutely delicious and our server was very attentive. This was the very first restaurant we ate at on the island and I was very impressed with the service and the atmosphere. Would definitely recommend to anyone who loves Italian food.
Alesia A — Google review
They made the pizza like in good Italian restaurants in Napoli. It was profound that the art of making pizza originated from Italy. I ordered margarita with prosciutto. The way they placed it on cheese and the time they baked it was the detail that made the difference. The thin lane of fat that every prosciutto has, was stretched to the edges and baked so to be transparent. Pizza bread was balanced thin to allow cheese and prosciutto to have full taste and not feel that you are eating a toast.
Dimitrios C — Google review
Really good Italian food with fresh ingredients. We started with a lovely salad with fresh burrata, prosciutto, tomatoes, and grapes. My wife had pizza. I had the chicken ragu pasta. All was very good.
Robert R — Google review
We came in the evening and even though we didn't have reservation folks from here accommodated us without any issues. Local salad , local beer and pizzas were excellent. Linguine with cuttle fish was also amazing. Service was super as well.
Branislav J — Google review
It was a nice restaurant, with very fast service, maybe a bit too fast because the main dish was served while we were still working on the starter and our plate got grabbed when we were still eating but overall it was really delicious and we had a good time. The pizza dough was very light which I liked and the fresh ravioli tasted amazing. If you sit outside it can be quite loud because you are seated next to the main road but other than that it was a cozy atmosphere.

Restaurant
The overall dining experience at Allou Yialou was satisfactory, with a selection of fresh seafood available. The ceviche from the raw menu stood out for its exceptional taste. The restaurant also offers breathtaking views and a picturesque sunset scenery, making it advisable to book a table in advance for the best vistas. However, it should be noted that the prices are slightly high compared to other establishments in Syros, possibly making it overpriced for what it offers.
🌊 Allou Yialou – Dining at the Water’s Edge 🌊 If you’re looking for a truly magical dining experience by the sea, Allou Yialou at Kini Beach, Syros, is the place to be. Nestled right on the Cycladic coastline, this gem of a restaurant offers breathtaking views, with the waves gently lapping against the walls as you dine. You genuinely couldn’t get closer to the sea. We visited for lunch as two families – a table of eight, including children – and were blown away. The food was nothing short of exquisite: beautifully fresh, inventive, and a feast for the eyes as much as the taste buds. The dishes showcased the best of local ingredients with creative flair, and the reasonable pricing made it even more appealing. While we enjoyed the stunning meal, the children had the time of their lives. After the food was gone, they played in the clear, inviting waters just steps from our table, while we relaxed and watched. The connection between the restaurant and its idyllic setting is something truly special. The drinks menu was equally impressive, offering a fantastic variety to suit all tastes. The kids loved their meals just as much as we did – no small feat! We loved it so much that we returned the very next day for dinner, and once again, Allou Yialou did not disappoint. From start to finish, the food, service, and atmosphere were exceptional. If you’re visiting Syros, this is an absolute must. The combination of outstanding food, friendly service, and a setting that dreams are made of makes Allou Yialou a truly magnificent place. 📍 Location: Kini Beach, Syros, Cyclades, Greece More info: allouyialousyros.gr 📸 Instagram: @allouyialou Highly recommended – we’ll treasure the memories made here forever!

Day 3

For day 3, if you don’t mind the extra trek, today covers more off the beaten path places like Agathopes Beach. Not quite as popular as Ano Syros, but still highly rated among many travelers. Accounting for getting around and average time spent, today’s activities could take about 8 hours.

Agathopes Beach is a popular destination known for its golden sands, ideal for swimming and sunbathing. Visitors can also enjoy nearby cafes and taverns. For those seeking exclusivity, the prestigious ONO complex offers a luxurious experience on a reef between two bays, attracting the local elite. The area provides a diverse human landscape with options to either socialize or find almost private beaches for solitude.
The perfect beach can only be found where there are no people. It is a fine sandy beach, with a few stones, plant debris and a little plastic. Once you are in the water, it is a perfect fine sandy beach. The water is very long and shallow. In addition to the more than 100 parasols and sun loungers available for a fee, there are also 15 free ones if you don't mind lying on the sand. Chilled background music is provided by the adjacent beach bar. Unfortunately, it was a bit windy that day. But I liked the beach (18.6.24)
Kons V — Google review
Nice sand beach with crystal water and youthful vibe. Popular for Greeks and fewer tourists. Bar on hill plays cool pumping music as the sexy bikini crowd overpays for drinks and beds. Other restaurants behind the beach. Parking on road and near the bar on hill. Sand is great. Long shallow area. Mainly protected from the wind. Maybe the coolest beach with sexiest vibe. Covered beds were 60 euro, set of 2 was 50 euro…or grab free sand. You can sit in the vibin’ bar for free or pay for a bed from them (waiting list in June which is dead season here) but you have to buy drinks and or food. It has easy entry to water and we chose to sit in the bar. Better my money go to drink and food than a bed.
Matt J — Google review
Best beach in Syros. Fine white sand, shallow waters and at least one excellent taverna two steps from the sea. Could get rather crowded in summer as it is relatively small.
Annice W — Google review
Crystal waters even during the most windy times. Easy access by the car with plenty of parking options. Keep in mind that there are a few umbrellas by the beach for everyone to use!
Sofia K — Google review
If you are looking for cristal clear quiet and shallow waters to dip in this is the place you are looking for, it has bars and restaurants nearby and the beach offers free showers to take out the salt from your body and dressing rooms to wear/unwear your swimsuit. Also there is a paid section where you can borrow sunbeds and umbrellas starting at €15 and a free one where you can use your own umbrella and beach towel. The parking section is limited but enough for the beach capacity, just keep in mind that in summer this beach could be a little busy due this place is quite popular among locals and tourists.
Carlos R — Google review
The sea and beach are great. But the beach beds are 15 Euro per person. The repetitive and loud music takes away all the pleasure of the beach (Kini is much nicer and beds are 1/3 plus a free drink)!!
Kerim U — Google review
The stars are for the swimming and the beautiful water. However the beach is full of organised umbrellas and it was packed.

Beach
Paralia Finikas is a charming seaside village with a small, neat beach and crystal-clear waters. The long, thin stretch of sand offers a picturesque setting for visitors to relax and enjoy the shallow, clear water. While there are some rocks and stones near the port to be mindful of, the beach provides free umbrellas and has nearby amenities such as restaurants, shops, and cafes. Additionally, there are fishing platforms available along with a full-service marina for those interested in maritime activities.
Nice, sandy beach with shallow, clear water. Some rocks and stones to the side of the port, beware of sea urchins there — you don’t want to step on those. Otherwise offering free umbrellas and some nice cafes nearby.
Roland T — Google review
The sandy beach itself is quite narrow and cannot hold a lot of people. No infrastructure (seats, umbrellas). Tavern on the side. South-East orientation, relatively protected from wind and waves. The sea clarity is wonderful. Mostly sandy floor, with rocks on each side richer in fishes. Small pier on the right, visited by the 'beach hopper' taxi boats. Their high frequency can become a bit annoying for the swimmers that have to constantly pay attention.
Nicolas C — Google review
A picturesque seaside village with a small beach and some taverns. Definitely worth a visit. There is a small parking lot at the back of the beach. there are some sunbeds and umbrellas but there is also a free space.

Finikas Beach - Practicality, Pleasure, and Water Sports Hub Finikas Beach, located near the village and adjacent to the marina, is an incredibly practical and relaxing spot for a day by the sea on Syros. It offers everything you need for a comfortable and enjoyable visit. Excellent Shelter and Calm Water, The beach is well-protected from the strong north winds- which means the sea is often very calm and inviting- perfect for leisurely swimming. The shore offers a mix of sand and small pebbles, and the water is famously clean and clear. Syros's Water Sports Center, Finikas Beach is considered the best spot for water sports on Syros due to its harbor, which hosts various activities including windsurfing and sailing. For those seeking a wider range of adrenaline-fueled options like water skiing and wakeboarding, Komito Beach is the place to go- home to the Syros Water Sports Club. Additionally, Voulgari Beach offers dedicated windsurfing lessons and rentals. Great Amenities and Convenience, This beach is well-organized with sunbeds, umbrellas, and easy access to nearby cafes and restaurants. Being so close to the small port means you have convenient options for lunch or a quick drink. Finikas provides a gentle- laid-back atmosphere, making it ideal for a comfortable and hassle-free beach day.

A small but very neat beach, with crystal-clear water. There are a lot of restaurants, a shop and a bakery nearby, so you can get everything you need and spend the whole day on the beach. They could clear the seaside of many seashells so that it would be easier to access the water.

Delfini is a stunning beach with crystal-clear waters and soft sand, although there are some stones near the shore. It offers a relaxing atmosphere and beautiful views of the calm waters. The beach features a cantina where visitors can order food and drinks, as well as wooden umbrellas for shade. Additionally, there is a small island in the center of the Delfini gulf that can be reached by swimming.
One of my favourite beach on the island. Left section is for the nudist which I loved (more quiet without kids). Beautiful, some trees for shadow and shower to rinse yourself. If you have more time go on a hike to Barbarossa. It the most beautiful beach on the island. 30 min hike from delfini

While you need a 15min drive there through harsh road, the result is astonishing. Pool-like crystal clear waters bathed under endless sunshine. Good place to relax. There is a beach bar and a local canteen. Bring your umbrella with you if you dont plan to arrive early. You will need it as seats are very few. Big parking space too so dont worry.

Azolimnos beach is a charming spot located 4 km from Ermoupolis, offering a calm swimming experience and opportunities for underwater exploration. While the beach provides amenities such as showers, bathrooms, changing cabins, Greek tavernas, and beach bars, it can be windy at times.

Azolimnos Beach - The Convenient Getaway Azolimnos Beach is an absolute delight- especially for those looking for a quick escape without traveling far from Ermoupolis. It perfectly balances easy access with a truly pleasant beach experience. Sheltered and Serene, This beach is nestled in a small bay, providing excellent protection from the wind, which means the water is usually incredibly calm and clear- ideal for leisurely swimming and safe for younger visitors. The sand is soft and the atmosphere is relaxed, making it a wonderful spot to unwind. Great Amenities, Azolimnos is well-organized with comfortable sunbeds and umbrellas available. What makes it even better are the excellent fish tavernas located right along the waterfront. You can easily spend the morning swimming and then step straight into a fantastic lunch of fresh seafood. Highly Recommended, If you are staying in the southern part of Syros or just want a convenient, beautiful beach close to the port- Azolimnos is a top-tier choice. It's clean, well-maintained, and consistently delivers a peaceful and enjoyable day by the Aegean Sea.

Asteria Beach is a popular urban beach located in Ermoupolis, the capital known as the "Town of Hermes" after the Greek god of trade. The beach offers a unique experience with neoclassical mansions overlooking the sea and platforms on the water with umbrellas for relaxation. It's not your typical sandy beach, but rather a sun deck where visitors can swim in stunningly clear waters and soak up the sun.
The nearest beach in ermoupolis from town But don't expect a sandy and shallow water because it's a platform type so it's deep few umbrella and some shades at the back , Changing clothes and shower have to. Asteria Beach - Urban Chic Swimming Asteria Beach is truly unique- it offers a chic swimming experience right at the edge of the magnificent Vaporia neighborhood in Ermoupolis. It’s not a wide sandy expanse, but rather a series of concrete platforms and rocky access points that descend directly into the deep, crystal-clear water. Unbeatable Ambiance, What sets Asteria apart is the incredible backdrop. While swimming or relaxing, you are looking directly up at the majestic, neoclassical mansions of Syros- giving it a grand- almost Italian Riviera- feeling. It’s easily the most stylish and sophisticated place to take a dip near the city center. Perfect for Relaxation and Views, The small beach bar, often referred to by the same name- provides sunbeds and refreshing drinks, making it easy to spend an afternoon enjoying the sun and the incredible scenery. The water is deep and clear- perfect for a quick, cool swim. Convenience and Charm, Its location is incredibly convenient- just a short walk from Plateia Miaouli. If you prefer deep, clear water and a vibrant urban view over long, sandy shores- Asteria Beach is an absolute must-visit. It perfectly captures the elegant spirit of Ermoupolis.

This isn’t a beach so much as a sun deck and a place to swim, but whatever it is, it’s a great place to jump into the sea and catch some rays in Vaporea. Absolutely loved our experience at De La Gracia in Syros! The beach setup is just next level — super comfortable sunbeds, chilled vibes, and some of the best cocktails we’ve had on a Greek island. Think crystal-clear waters, the perfect music volume, and drinks that actually taste like summer. But the real surprise was the restaurant. WOW. Every dish we tried was incredible — beautifully presented, packed with flavor, and clearly made with love. From fresh seafood to creative mains and dreamy desserts, everything was on point. And the staff? Just amazing. Friendly, attentive, and genuinely happy to make your day better. They even remembered our names and favorite drinks by the second visit! Whether you want to lounge by the sea with a cocktail in hand or enjoy a proper gourmet meal with a view, De La Gracia nails it. 10/10 would come back (already planning it).

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 This restaurant was literally just 10 meters from the beach—such a beautiful spot! While gluten- and dairy-free options weren’t listed directly on the menu, the staff were really accommodating when I asked. I had the quinoa salad and grilled prawns, which were both fresh and delicious. Great place if you have dietary restrictions—just be sure to ask!

I enjoyed a generous portion of yogurt with honey and walnuts at the cafe Plaza All Day Syros. The water they served came with ice cubes, and the waitress was polite. I couldn't help but notice that all the plates of other customers were tidy and clean. They also served juices garnished with a piece of fruit, tea in large teapots, and coffee accompanied by mini croissants.
Enjoyed two meals at this cafe. Both were excellent, sizable portions and extremely reasonably priced. Great friendly staff. Lunch we had Curry Chicken Baguette and Plaza Crepe. Dinner another day we both opted for chicken fillet. Can't recommend this place highly enough.

We spent our brunch here for 3 days. Because they make the best brunch, large portion and reasonable price. Free water and free croissant too.

Kouzina is a charming restaurant located by the sea, offering a variety of Greek dishes with a unique twist. In addition to traditional favorites like mousaka and galaktoboureko, they also serve salads, pasta, burgers, and delightful desserts like halva paste. The restaurant has received praise for its friendly service and fantastic vibe. While some find the prices on the higher side, many guests appreciate the welcoming atmosphere and vegetarian options available at Kouzina.
Loved it !! Amazing Greek dishes with a twist , but also variety of salads, pasta , burgers etc. Surely you will find something of your liking. The smoked mousaka was exquisite I did boot enjoy the galaktoboureko so much as I prefer it traditional. But the halva paste (dessert was perfect) Highly recommended Good service Price €€

Nice restaurant by the sea. The food was really nice. I had breakfast there. The service is also really nice. The only thing is the price. One small cup of orange juice for 5 euros and a dish with some bread and eggs for 9 euros are pretty expensive. But the rest was totally fine

Absolutely fantastic restaurant, the best we’ve been to in Syros. Great kitchen, the dishes were beautiful to look at, brilliant and inventive recipes, with an awareness for local and organic products. The owners were lovely hosts who made use feel very welcome. They gave us space but were also in for a chat. Their wine suggestion was awesome. Really a place to go. Thanks for two wonderful evenings!
Katharina P — Google review
Although the location si nice and the outside part of the restaurant beautiful, we had a pretty disappointing experience there. The main, but not only, negative aspects for us were the small but expensive portions of the main dishes (compared to restaurants on the rest of the island at least) and the cost of the bread (7,5 EUR for 2 adults and a 4-year old). Yes, it came with extra virgin olive oil and spices, but we didn't ask for that too.

Undoubtedly the finest cuisine in Ermoupolis, perhaps even in all of Greece - without a doubt. The chef possesses an unparalleled mastery of food pairings that most chefs can only dream of attaining. I recommend trying the invigorating sea urchin eggs dish for a lively, invigorating, and well-balanced meal. The sensational rainbow fish with chickpea stew was truly remarkable. Every aspect of the dining experience was exceptional.
My husband and I have been to this place 2 times. The first time we found it was by accident. From the first time my husband was delighted with the meat. We ordered pork steak and orzo pasta with shrimp. He said it was the best steak he had ever eaten, although he likes to cook a lot. About the pasta - it was not bad the first time. But as it seemed to me a lot of cheese and because of this flavor was unusual. The second time we came here because we couldn't find anywhere other restaurant for spaghetti with shrimp. And this time I ordered the orzo pasta with shrimp. This time my husband ordered the chicken. And we were delighted 🥹🥹 the chicken was with chili peppers and salad . It was very tasty ..... but spicy, really spicy 🔥(in the menu says )But we had no problems with it. The pasta orzo this time was great . (The photo will only show half of it . Sorry I remembered late to take a photo ) . All in all—————on Syros downtown, this is the best meat restaurant . I hope you don't lose your brand . Bravo chief 👏🏻

Suggestion of a local to try out Περι Τινος, I was a bit skeptical at first. Warm and fresh bread accompanied by olives and local cheese spread. The highlight was the orzo with shrimps dish which was the best dish I ate on the island of Syros. Mastic and lemon drink served at the end of the lunch, extra good as mastic helps with digestion. Polite waiters who knew the dishes very well.

Food was good, nothing so special we had not had before! The service was really cool, friendly & attentive! Was a really nice highlight of the night! Location by the harbour, we sat right next to the water and had a full view of the boats, yachts & Syros by night! Wonderfull! It was a bit loud, because it's also next to the road and a bit crowded, but nothing that bothers you or makes it difficult to talk/1

The Town Hall of Ermoupolis, located in Miaouli Square, is a grand neoclassical building designed by Ernst Ziller in the late 19th century. The architectural blend includes Ionic and Tuscan elements, with a 15m monumental staircase leading to the front door. The interiors boast dazzling beauty with majestic stairs and soft morning light. Visitors can admire paintings and sculptures in the foyer and internal courtyards.
The city hall of Ermoupolis is a building disigned by Ernest Tsiller and been constructed between 1875 and 1891.The impresion that this beautiful building leaves you is that it looks more like a palace! Don t hesitate going inside and explore all the floors. Its free!! There is a small cafe also in the ground floor. Definitely recommend this place while you visit Syros
Dimitris K — Google review
10+1 things you must know about the City Hall of Hermoupolis on Miaouli Square: 1. This magnificent building, the biggest and certainly one of the most architecturally important Town Halls in Greece, has three floors on the side overlooking the square and two floors in the rear due to the ground’s incline. 2. It was built in 1876 under the supervision of German-Bavarian architect Ernst Ziller (he is the man behind the Academy of Athens and the Apollo Municipal Theatre of Patra) and inaugurated in 1898. 3. Its design draws architecturally on three different styles: Tuscan, Ionic, and Corinthian. 4. The building’s outstanding features include a princely staircase 15.5 meters high, two wings with five vertical window axes right and left, towers, a marble pediment and portraits of former Syros mayors. 5. The second floor is of Ionic style and the towers are of Korinthian style. The central part is entirely made of marble and you will see an inscription explaining that the Municipality of Hermes erected this building in the honor of mayor Vafiadakis. 6. On the left of the staircase, there is the bust of Mayor Vafiadakis (1804-1898). 7. The hall of the municipal council meetings is of particular interest: In the lobby there are the portraits of all Mayors, in the room you will see oil paintings of King George I (1864-1912) and Queen Olga, by artist Prosalentis. 8. In 1998 the building was renovated, the glass roof was reconstructed and artist Anna Vassilaki used original designs by Ziller to paint the walls of the building. 9. The Town Hall also hosts the Archaeological Museum of Syros, the Court of Law and some other public services. 10. By a ministerial decree of 1980, it has been identified as a work of art (masterpiece). +1: inside the City Hall you will also find a vintage carriage that belonged to Princess Sissi (the Empress Elisabeth of Austria, image 5) and the coat of arms of the city of Ermoupolis (image 8).

The Town Hall of Ermoupolis is located in Miaouli Square which is the main square. The Town Hall is open for visits every day (Monday to Friday) from 9:00 to 15:00. Located here are also the Courthouse, the Land Registry, the Archaeological Museum and other public services. On the upper floor is where the meetings were held. You’ll see old oil paintings of King George I and Queen Olga. There is also a courtyard and cafe. Worth a visit at no charge for the general public.

Built in 1876 under the supervision of Ernst Ziller, the Town Hall of Ermoupolis on Miaouli square is one of the largest and most impressive Town Halls in all of Greece totally made in marble. Other noteworthy elements of the Town Hall are the hanging ladder at the entrance, the bust of D. Bafiadakis, the boardroom and the portraits of former mayors. The Town Hall houses the courts, the land registry, the archaeological museum and various other public bodies and municipal services which are open to the public from Monday to Friday from 8:00 hrs to 15:00 hrs. If you have some time, do not forget to go inside and take a walk along.

Ermoupolis City Hall - A Cycladic Masterpiece The Ermoupolis City Hall is not just a municipal building; it is the breathtaking architectural crown jewel of Syros and one of the most magnificent neoclassical structures in all of Greece. Standing proudly at the head of Miaouli Square, it dominates the cityscape and leaves an indelible impression on every visitor. Architectural Grandeur, Designed by the famous German architect Ernst Ziller, the City Hall is a testament to the prosperity and importance of Ermoupolis in the 19th century. Its sheer size and imposing facade, constructed with marble from Mount Penteli (the same marble used for the Parthenon), command immediate attention. The massive staircase leading up to the main entrance is iconic and provides a perfect photo opportunity. The combination of its Renaissance-inspired elements and the sheer scale makes it feel more like a palace than a local government office. A Vibrant Heart, The building perfectly frames Miaouli Square, one of the most beautiful squares in Greece. Even if you don't go inside, simply admiring the building from the square and soaking in the atmosphere is a highlight of any trip to Syros. The square is the vibrant social heart of the town, constantly buzzing with life, cafés, and cultural events. Must-See Interior, While the exterior is stunning, many reviews encourage visitors to step inside and explore the opulent interior. Highlights include the main staircase, the beautifully preserved council chambers, and the sense of history that permeates the halls. It is a striking representation of the neoclassical period and showcases the island's rich heritage. Visiting Ermoupolis City Hall is essential for anyone exploring Syros. It is a spectacular piece of architecture that embodies the dignity and history of this beautiful island capital.
Yaron C — Google review
A very beautiful building designed by Tsiller. It is one of the main landmarks of Ermoupolis, located in the main square of the town. This should be the first place to visit if you find yourselves in Syros, even for a couple of hours. 5 stars, highly recommended!

The Syros Town Hall is, without a doubt, one of the most impressive and beautiful Town Halls in all of Greece, dominating the magnificent Miaouli Square. Designed by the legendary German architect Ernst Ziller, its construction began in 1876 and was completed around 1891-1898, symbolizing the immense wealth and cultural peak of Ermoupoli in the 19th century. The neoclassical design is stunning, blending Tuscan, Ionic, and Corinthian styles across its facade. However, the interior is where the architectural genius truly shines. The building features two atria, but the main focal point is the monumental internal staircase. This majestic suspended staircase is an engineering marvel, and looking up, you see it's covered by a beautiful glass roof (skylight), which floods the entire central hall with natural light. It's a truly brilliant design feature. The building also houses the Archaeological Museum of Syros in its ground floor. A true gem and a symbol of an era!

Greek Orthodox church
Agios Athanasios in Ano Syros is a picturesque and idyllic location surrounded by lush greenery. In the past, it was a spot where women would wash their clothes, adding to its historical charm. Today, it offers a beautiful walking path and a serene atmosphere, making it an ideal place to take a leisurely stroll and enjoy the refreshing coolness of the surroundings. The short walk from Hermoupolis is definitely worth it for anyone seeking natural beauty and tranquility.
The spot is lush, green and beautiful. The perfect spot for a little walk and picnic just outside the town. Next to the orthodox church of Agios Athanasios, you will find what possibly is the oldest natural source of water on the island where the medieval inhabitants and sailors would get fresh water from, and where the first 19th century refugees that landed from Chios island, to later found Ermoúpolis, planted their beloved mastic trees as a memory of their culture and lands.

We love sitting under the trees on their patio in the morning or afternoon and never fail to visit when in Syros.

Amazing place - grabbed a baklava and a chocolate salami and they were both incredible & handmade. Super accommodating in giving us a takeaway box and cutlery in case we couldn’t finish and wanted for another time- we did not end up using!! Would highly recommend.

Very cute little bistro in center of Syros. We stopped by looking for a dessert on way back to our hotel and the baker himself helped us pick out one of the most delicious chocolate cakes I’ve ever had. The truffles are amazing as well. Will definitely go back for coffee and food.

If you're in Greece and taking a trip to Syros, this restaurant should be on your list. The place itself is beautiful; the way they combined the bougainvillea trees and the old building will leave you enchanted. Plus, the service is fabulous—very friendly and helpful, and some of them speak Spanish, something you'll find quite a bit on the islands. The cocktails were very good, and I give them a 9/10, and the food was also 9/10. You'd even think it was a gourmet restaurant, but the portion sizes were very generous and the flavors were delicious. The only thing they took a while to do was give me the bill; they should pay a little more attention to that detail. But overall, it's a 9/10 and a place you absolutely must visit on your vacation or while in Syros. This restaurant is excellent. I⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Khristian P — Google review
Mazi is a beautiful restaurant with a wonderful aesthetic and a truly romantic vibe. The food was tasty and enjoyable, though considering the prices we expected a bit more attention to detail in the service, or perhaps a small complimentary treat at the end. Overall, it’s a lovely spot worth visiting, and with a touch more refinement it could easily reach perfection.
Olia P — Google review
This restaurant was just perfect! Perfect food, atmosphere and decoration! The service was also very good. I would definitely recommend it and visit it again!
Stella P — Google review
The place has nice atmosphere and decent coffee but it’s completely overpriced and the portions are small. We also ordered a portion of just scrambled eggs for our kids as a side dish and charged us 10 euros for it, when we complained they reduced it to 9 euros. This is ridiculous.. very disappointing especially for Greece. Even in London they don’t charge so much for literally 3 eggs. The island has a lot better options with higher quality food and service.
Vassia S — Google review
We had a lovely meal in this unique restaurant. The highlights are its stylishly natural garden as well as its delicious food and drinks. It's an ideal place to enjoy a memorable dinner since its garden offers a lovely getaway from the narrow and busy streets of Syros.

This hidden gem is a must-visit for all brunch enthusiasts. From the moment I entered, I was captivated by the serene and picturesque yard - a perfect oasis for a lazy Sunday morning. The staff at this place is genuinely friendly and welcoming, making the experience all the more enjoyable. They greet you with warm smiles and are always ready to recommend the best dishes from their mouthwatering menu. Their attentiveness and quick service were truly impressive, adding to the overall positive vibe of the place. The extensive brunch menu offers a delightful variety of options to satisfy everyone's cravings. Whether you're a fan of classic eggs Benedict or prefer indulging in fluffy pancakes loaded with fresh berries, this place has got you covered. The food is not only aesthetically pleasing but also bursting with flavors that will leave your taste buds dancing with joy. What sets this brunch spot apart is its beautiful yard. The outdoor seating area is surrounded by lush greenery and colorful flowers, creating a tranquil atmosphere where you can relax and enjoy your meal. It's like being transported to a little haven away from the hustle and bustle of the city.

Cafe
Nestled in the charming heart of Ermoupolis, The Corner Cafe is a delightful haven for food lovers and those seeking a cozy retreat. This inviting spot offers an array of homemade delicacies that pay homage to local flavors, including scrumptious New York-style bagels and delectable banana bread. With its warm ambiance and friendly owner, who embodies the spirit of Greek hospitality, visitors are treated to not just great food but also genuine kindness.
This cafe is my favorite breakfast spot on Syros. The staff are so friendly and welcoming to foreigners and I’ve had great chats with them. 🥰 The juices and bagel options are wonderful! I thought it was odd at first to see New York style bagels in Greece until I chatted with the owner and learned that his wife is from New York, and makes the bagels. I love that they added a Greek twist with Mediterranean options they’ve added to the bagel menu items too. I will go back as often as I can. ☺️
Ashley R — Google review
I wasn't expecting to come across NY style bagels on a Greek island, but I'm so glad my wife and I happened upon this place. I've enjoyed bagels from all of the top rated bagel shops throughout North America and I was blown away by how good these were in comparison, probably the best bagel that I have ever personally tasted - we instantly ordered 6 for pickup. I'm not really one to leave many reviews from places that I eat at, but this was something else.

Lovely experience ❤️ We found this place by chance, we were enchanted by its beauty and even more delighted by the food and service. We had a delicious handmade bagel with avocado, eggs and feta: every flavor perfectly balanced, a true joy for the senses.

I loved the Corner Cafe. The staff were really friendly (we had nice morning chats) and were very accommodating with my meal preferences, the coffee and the food were great, and I ended up eating there every morning (omelette and delicious pancakes for the family!). It has a very nice relaxed and zen atmosphere, and that’s also reflected in the cool, relaxed music they play. I would always look forward to going there in the morning, will miss it, but will go there again when I’m next in Syros.

Arhontariki restaurant in Syros is a charming Greek eatery located in a lovely alley. The staff is friendly and the service is good, with quick food delivery. The portions are generous, so be prepared for large servings. The menu offers delicious options like veal ossobucco and aged Gruyere with caramelised capers. Additionally, the black bean salad provides a refreshing palate cleanse.
Such a lovely eatery in the heart of syros . I had the octopus Stifato and lamb shank . Both beautifully seasoned . Their menu is like photo book with large variety of dishes that celebrate produce of syros . Try the potato salad as well . Nice table setting nest to Django , the gelato shop

Beautiful atmosphere and décor (5/5) with generous portions. The beef was excellent, the lamb a bit too bony, salad tasty. Hospitality could improve: water and bread were put on the table without asking and charged on the bill, and no complimentary dessert was offered.

I warmly recommend the dish Osmopyko, which I enjoyed at a wonderful restaurant in Syros. The flavors were absolutely amazing – well balanced and clearly made with love. Nice service, stylish décor, and a pleasant overall ambiance. The appetizers are tasty but on the smaller side. I had the lamb chops along with the giouvetsi with orzo, and both were very good. Definitely worth trying!

Dined at this restaurant and I am still thinking about the food! I have dined at many restaurants throughout Greece on my trip and the Octopus w rosemary and this entre dish with meat and warm cheese w apricot was mind blowing. I cant wait to come back to this beautiful place and dine here again - pls keep the octopus on the menu. Thank you again.

Beach
Grammata beach is a mesmerizing coastal destination that requires some effort to access. Situated about 4 kilometers away from Kampos, it can only be reached by traversing a scenic trail. It is advised to reserve energy for the ascent and carry an ample supply of water. This exquisite bay offers a splendid location for anchoring boats; however, caution must be exercised when selecting an anchor spot due to the abundance of seagrass that hampers reaching the sandy seabed.
One of the most beautiful beaches at Syros!!! You can reach it either by boat or by hiking. The scenery is incredible, all sandy with amazing crystal clear waters

Tiny, secluded beach with crystal clear waters. Magical in the off-season, crowded during the high season.

Amazing beach but you have to earn it. Only accessible through a 4km trail that starts from Kampos and takes you down. Save strength for your climb up and bring lots (but lots) of water.
Christoforos N — Google review
A beautiful bay for anchoring with a boat, but choose your anchor spot with care because there is lots of seagrass that makes it difficult to reach the sandy bottom.

Followed Google maps, the road signs and couldn’t find it at all. Unless we would go through one meter tall grass, we were stuck at people’s properties. Therefore 3 stars as haven’t seen it but really tried to find it. Didn’t see any red markings
Polina K — Google review
Not easy to get to, but well worth the trip if you are serious about exploring ancient sites off the beaten track. Ideally you need a map and boots and be able to navigate over rough ground. I found the path up one side and down the other easily enough and was graced by the presence of rare birds flying around me on the summit.

The trail is marked with red spray paint including arrows. It's definitely worth the hike, especially if you leave before dawn to watch the sun rise from the top. The other 3 star comment from a "guude" is wack. I have a video on my YouTube of the site to show just how impressive it is. Pure magic for the truly intrepid spirit in you. An good hike and not too difficult. I hiked there twice in sandals.

The site itself is quite disappointing and the hike there is tough with no marked pathway really. The walk around the island is worth it, but I wouldn't make Kastri your target destination.

Plakostroto, located in the picturesque and captivating far north of the island, offers breathtaking vistas, excellent service, and delicious cuisine. Whether you choose to drive or take a taxi for approximately 15 minutes, this establishment is well worth a visit for lunch or dinner. If you crave magnificent mountain views that extend to other islands and even mainland Athens and enjoy authentic Greek dishes made with locally sourced ingredients of exceptional quality, then look no further.
It’s a special place, the position, the ambiance, but most of all….the food. it is still a taverna, nothing too fancy or gourmet. I had the feta in filo pastry (astonishing), deep fried mashrooms (super yummy) and the slow cooked roaster (the place signature). I paid 70 because I was alone and I had a bottle of orange local wine (35). I also tasted the liver because of a courtesy (very good). It’s one of the places in Syros. It takes a while to arrive, come here before sunset (it is a magnificent reason) and enjoy the way up there, not for the faint of hearth. Breathtaking.

“A nice package”. A nice drive, with views of Tenos & Myconos, a well taken care of decoration, a beautiful view to the West. The menu is a basic Greek taverna menu, but the execution is very good. The food is very tasty, the ingredients are of good quality, and the care they have put into it is obvious. Caring service too.

T'aloni is a charming family-run tavern nestled in the heart of Syros, offering an authentic dining experience that feels like a well-kept secret. Open only on weekends, this hidden gem serves up delightful dishes made from fresh ingredients sourced directly from the owners' garden and local farms. The atmosphere is simple yet enchanting, with tables set amidst lush greenery that enhances your meal with stunning views of the surrounding valley.
A hidden gem, in the middle of nowhere. Family business, which only operates on weekends. The service was great as was the quality of food. Zucchini pie was the special of the day and was really good. Highly recommend the pork in oil paper as it is called. The sausage was not of my preference. The scenery is great as the restaurant blends really well with the surroundings. Do try the dessert that the restaurant serves at the end of the meal along with the limoncello. The fact that is not a well known restaurant makes it that good as the quality is of high standards. Edit: Restaurant will be open daily during the summer months

In the center of the island, in the heart of a beautiful valley, lies this romantic tavern. The restaurant is owned and run by a lovely couple. The tables are in the middle of their garden, where many of the ingredients come from. You can literally see what you are eating. And you can taste that the food is fresh and healthy. The view is breathtaking, the food is the best we have eaten on the island and the owners are beyond friendly. Absolutely amazing! Thanks again for this great evening, we will come back!

I highly recommend visiting this family tavern at your visit in Syros. The place is simple, pure and perfect in all terms. Not nothing luxurious but this is its beauty. The plates were delicious. All the materials coming directly from the owner’s garden and or the island of Syros. You can taste that everything that is served is fresh and juicy. The top plate is the pork in a flask with French fries. The meat is so juicy with all its flavor and perfectly cooked. Support the local community and economy by supporting worthy family businesses like this.

Location is great, the owner built a really beautiful terrace ! Food is really tasty and well balanced between tradition and innovation. Unfortunately, the service is the opposite of great. The owner/waiter blamed us after he forgot an item in our order, tried to make us change our order because the dish we wanted was mainly prepared for those who booked a table (we didn’t book but were the first to arrive and order and they were heaps of tables that were open), etc. Too bad this kind service is a disservice to a restaurant that other than that would be one of Syros’ top restaurants to eat at.
