The area also features attractions like the Gairloch Museum, gardens such as Inverewe Garden a short drive away, and dark skies that can be ideal for stargazing.
With favorites like Climb Ride Explore, The Old Inn Gairloch, and Solas Gallery, we’ll make sure you don’t miss out on all the must sees. What a stunning waterfall. Free car park and only a 2 minute walk to the viewing platform. Most definitely worth a stop whilst on the NC500.
Matthew B — Google review
Pretty waterfall and only a small, fairly flat walk from the car park to the decked viewing platform. It is worth taking the short walk up the hill to the top of the falls. There you can be see and be seen from the lower platform, good photo opportunity if you are in a group. Either continue up hill and take the loop path back to the car or for a shorter route go back the way you came.
Sarah P — Google review
Definitely worth a stop off if you are passing near by. From the free car park, it is only a very short walk to the falls, which can be seen from a viewing platform. It's worth doing the longer loop which takes you further up the falls and to a viewpoint overlooking Loch Maree. It's only 1/3 mile and takes about 10 mins.
Carl — Google review
Victoria Falls was absolutely stunning – the views of the waterfall are incredible and it’s such a peaceful, beautiful spot to take in. Out of all the places we visited on the NC500, this might have been our favourite. Definitely worth stopping for if you’re doing the route!
Ollie S — Google review
Nice short hike to falls. Free parking at the bottom. Allow about 20 minutes, although the platform from the parking is only about three minutes. It’s worth it to go up and around the loop to see views of Loch Marie.
G M — Google review
Great waterfall just off the main road down Loch Maree, free parking and only a short walk to the viewing platform at the bottom of the falls easy for people of all abilities and ages. A path leads from the viewing platform to the top of the falls for a different view. Waterfall nice from the bottom with its double drop cascade. A great waterfall to see on the NC500.
Skell M — Google review
We came across this whillst travelling along the NC500 , Wow, absoloutley stunning, you can see part of Loch Maree from there also. Plenty of space for parking , wasnt overly crowded. Highley recommend a stop off on your journey .

Beautiful paintings of stunning local scenery. New owner was so helpful when I struggled to make a decision. She encouraged me to take my time and wait if I wasn't sure. So refreshing in a world of pushy sales people. So glad I decided to buy!

The 'Sitooterie' wildlife observation garden, located on Pier Road in Gairloch, is a charming community initiative that has transformed a former scrubby bank into a colorful harbor-side garden. Visitors can enjoy the picturesque view of working fishing boats, pleasure boats, and wildlife while sitting with a hot drink from nearby Coast Coffee. It's an ideal spot to relax, have a picnic, or simply take in the peaceful surroundings.
A Th "Sitooterie" is a splendid community initiative. Its a great place to sit and watch the wildlife, take a picnic or just sit. The former scrubby bank between the harbour road and the water has been transformed by the locals into a real asset. Please make use of the sitooterie, and if you like it, pop a poond into the box to help with the upkeep.

Climb Ride Explore offers a variety of outdoor activities led by Charlie, who is known for his friendly and knowledgeable approach. Participants have enjoyed paddleboarding, canyoning, coasteering, and mountain biking with him. Safety is prioritized without sacrificing the thrill of new challenges. The experiences are not only adventurous but also educational as Charlie shares insights about the local area during the activities.
Great day out canyoning would absolutely recommend. Charlie was great at prior communication and took the time to call before and ask questions. One of the guides Calum was also fantastic. They were great out in the canyon making you feel safe and created a fun environment for all - even some of the girls in our group who felt more nervous!! Thanks Charlie.
Ruby S — Google review
We've had the great pleasure of a half day canyoning with Charlie from Climb Ride Explore. From meeting Charlie to the last minute we've loved it all. The route chosen was spot on for a novice family, nothing too strenuous but enough exhilaration for the adventurous out there. We felt safe throughout. I would absolutely recommend this experience to anyone, and I think this is the best value for money experience I've ever been on.
Garry B — Google review
What an amazing experience we had coasteering for 1/2 day with Charlie and Emily. We were a family of five with three young boys who were variously scared of things to begin with (jellyfish, the cold, heights) and the team were so good with them that by the end of it they were leaping off the rocks, playing in wave pools and venturing in caves. I can’t recommend them highly enough if you’re up for a family adventure!! We’ll be back to try canyoning next time 🤙
Alex K — Google review
Our family hired Charlie for two days to adventure around the highlands. We had the BEST time! We chose canyoning one day and coasteering the next. Charlie was super communicative ahead of time, flexible with all of our needs and took us off the beaten path to places we would never have even come close to knowing about. Also...the adventure! None of us had ever tried either activity, and Charlie was super prepared with all the gear and instructions we needed. We give Charlie the highest recommendation -- you will NOT be disappointed with any experience you book with him.
Emily D — Google review
Superb. We took our kids (10 and 13) canyoning and we all had a fantastic time. Charlie’s knowledge, expertise and experience were very evident and we felt in extremely safe hands at all times. It was brilliant fun, jumping into pools and abseiling down the canyon among stunning scenery near Loch Maree & Slioch. We had been thinking of doing a hill walking day beforehand and Charlie gave us loads of excellent advice and guidance on options before we opted for canyoning. We’d love to do a hill day with Charlie another time as he clearly knows this magnificent area inside out. Don’t hesitate to book with Climb Ride Explore, you won’t be disappointed.
Rachel P — Google review
We had an amazing experience Coasteering with Climb Ride Explore! We have 10 and 13 year old girls and we all went out with Charlie for a half day, we had a blast climbing and traversing along rocks before doing a few jumps into the sea. Charlie was very patient when the girls were apprehensive about jumping but also encouraged them to go for it. Great fun, would definitely recommend and would love to do it again!
Hadyn C — Google review
Had an absolutely brilliant half day canyoning with Charlie. It was great fun and we felt very safe the whole time. When we needed to swap days Charlie was very accommodating too which was much appreciated, even though we swapped to a day when we were the only booking! Would definitely recommend to others and book again for the extended experience if we come back to the area!
Abs T — Google review
We had an amazing experience with Charlie. We (me and 2 of my children age 22, 21 and my daughters boyfriend age 22) went on the extreme coastering, which we can highly recommend. It was a fantastic nature experience combined with some adrenaline happenings. This combined with the fact that we felt safe with Charlie who is very experienced and also very good to talk to. Best regards Lars

Flowerdale Glen Car Park is the starting point for a picturesque walk through a sheltered glen adorned with wildflowers. The trail leads to two charming waterfalls, Eas Dubh and Easan Bana. The area was named after its abundant wildflower displays and offers an easy hike, although it becomes slightly more challenging near the falls. Additionally, just north of the car park, there's a captivating forest walk resembling an arboretum that's recommended in any weather.
Great walks into Flowerdale from here - the waterfalls are a worthy walk.

Nice easy walk to a pleasant waterfall, Can be made to be circular and would have ventured had been on our own. Bridge over the water near the waterfall closed. Very accessible from the car park.
Ronnie G — Google review
Beautiful walk up the side of the wee burn, well sign posted for the waterfall, until you actually get to the waterfall where, using stepping stones to cross the ford go straight across the road and along a slight path to the left. Keep going and you’ll get a good view of the main falls. We discovered this after taking the steep path to the left that takes you to the top of the waterfall and out into the glen. (Very Steep) my husband got a cuckoo and a Sea Eagle 🦅 at the top. I suggest if they’re going to put sign posts in all the way up to the waterfall they could at least clear a wee space where you’re able to view it.
Nicola H — Google review
This is a glen we have enjoyed many times with our dogs. It was disappointing this month therefore to be greeted with a virtual instruction from the estate of Gairloch should be on leads. Pretty unwelcoming and we are unlikely to return.

(Translated by Google) This is a review of the excursion options from this parking lot: just north of the parking lot you can take a short walk through a fascinating forest - or rather jungle - that resembles an arboretum walk. Highly recommended in any weather (see first pictures). A short hike leads through the Flowerdale Glen (valley), mostly along the river to the waterfall (Flowerdale Waterfall) and above - finally with a view of the sea. Exciting vegetation, beautiful views, easy hike.

We have just had a wonderful week at Glenview cottage. A fabulous cottage in a beautiful location, perfect to get away from it all but still accessible for local amenities and day trips. The cottage itself is very comfortable and has everything you could need. Beach access is a little steep and sticky but an great bonus to be able to kayak straight out of the back garden! Would highly recommend this property and Wester Ross retreats to anyone looking to get away from it all!

Nestled above a stunning stretch of sandy beach, Gairloch Golf Club offers an enchanting golfing experience that is hard to beat. Established in 1898, this charming 9-hole course is set amidst rolling dunes and presents a delightful challenge for golfers of all skill levels. The course has seen continuous improvements over the years, ensuring that it remains in pristine condition with lush fairways and well-maintained greens.
Go play it. I turned up in our camper van in jeans and trainers, not realising there was a course where we were parking for the day. Was allowed to play, hired clubs and had the most fun I’ve ever had on a course. Simply beautiful scenery and the course is absolutely pristine. Small, but perfectly formed with fairways like carpets and greens like snooker tables. An absolute gem.

Cracking Wee course. Built in a tight triangle of land with challenging par threes and tight fairways. Well worth a visit and the green fees. I feel I was mugged by the 8th. There is a steep grass "cliff" about two clubs into the par 5. If you don't know it's there you'll lose a ball.

Beach
Gairloch Beach (Gaineamh Mhòr) is a favorite destination for many, offering pristine sand with an abundance of shells to collect, including the delicate sea potato. The views of the sky and the town of Gairloch are stunning, especially during sunrise or sunset. Visitors can enjoy fires on the beach and watch their dogs play freely in the sea, making it a great spot for families.
Great facilities - warm showers, motor home waste dumping, toilets. No overnight parking in carpark but they are kind enough to tell you where you can park overnight.

Beautiful sandy beach with plenty of sand on the shore at high tide and shallow water which gently slopes to deeper water. Very clear, no seaweed. Watch out for jelly fish in mid-July, but you can avoid them by swimming at the end of the beach farthest away from the Gairloch Hotel.

What can I say. It was June, 29°C and the beach was almost deserted. Nice water, great scenery.
Tommi B — Google review
Very pretty beach, spotlessly clean. Golden sands and dunes. If you want pebbles and shells don't bother it's just sand. There's a decking walkway giving access for wheelchair users and a pay to use public toilet. The scenery is spectacular. There's a short coastal walk to Charlestown , about 1 mile for a general store, cafe and pub , plenty of parking for the beach and it's free.

Reviewing the restaurant here! Nice and old place as I like on roadtrips. The food was good and warms the stomach, shared with good drink, included local beers and a lot of whisky options. We were four for dinner, and all have tasted the plate of the others. Very happy with it. Good seafood possibilities. Yummy! Service was attentive and nice.

Quite definitely the worst meal I've had anywhere in the last 40 years. Most of the haddock was inedible, saturated with tiny bones. The saucing and seasoning awful and over salted. It was a whole tiny haddock that was only fit for quenells. It should never have been served as a main plate. The accompanying chips and peas were just...... Chips and peas! On complaining they knocked off the service charge and £3 off the bill, totally inadequate. On reflection I should have refused to pay anything and let them sue me, which by the way is lawful so long as you leave your name and address. However we're on holiday and I just couldn't be bothered. Let's hope for better luck tomorrow. NOW! Let's see if they have the courage not to delete this post.

Went for food during a recent holiday, was OK but nothing special. Service wasn't amazing, even with a table pre-booked, we still had to flag someone down to get seated. Ordering and serving of food took longer than expected, 2 courses was over an hour and a half. Food itself was OK, but a bit bland. However it was all well cooked and hot, so definitely not the worst. Relatively expensive, compared to other nearby pubs/restaurants. Overall it was OK, but probably wouldn't visit again.

What a fantastic place. They had a sign out to say they were short staffed and apologising for the inconvenience. When places are shutting left right and centre it’s fantastic to see a wee place putting in every effort to provide a great service. The girl out front let us know it would be a wee wait but that’s no issue when the view is so beautiful. In the end we hardly waited any time even though they were queued out the door and our food was delicious 😍 . A wonderful wee place with hardworking staff, a total gem
