Manciano in 1 day

If you only have 1 day to spend in Manciano, we’ve narrowed down the top places you should check out to get the best experience of your time here.
Manciano is a medieval hill town in southern Tuscany, known for its panoramic views over the Maremma countryside and its well-preserved historic center dominated by a 12th-century fortress. It’s a convenient base for visiting the famous thermal baths of Saturnia, Etruscan archaeological sites, and nearby hill towns and villages. The area offers quiet country roads, vineyards, and olive groves, making it appealing for relaxed drives, cycling, and wine and food tasting. Its location also puts you within reach of the Tuscan coast and natural parks for day trips.
With favorites like Chiesa di Santa Maria Maddalena, Polo Culturale Pietro Aldi, and Villa Acquaviva Winery, we’ll make sure you don’t miss out on all the must sees. We even included some of our favorite food spots around the area, like Ristorante I Due Cippi dal 1976 and Osteria L'Orologio - Manciano so you can get the best taste of Manciano while you’re here. To see our full list of food recommendations, check out our best restaurants post. If you're traveling on a budget, you can check out our cheap eats post.

Cascate del Mulino-Hot Spring, also known as Waterfalls of Saturnia or Cascate del Gorello, is a popular and fascinating destination. The warm thermal pools are created by sulphuric waters rising from the ground at 37.5°C, providing a spa-like experience. Visitors recommend visiting around 5pm to witness the spectacular sunset and enjoy the tranquility of the place. While entry to the waterfall is free, there's no free parking available.
Absolutely stunning place! The water is so clear and warm, and the place itself is just beautiful. Highly recommended! There is also nice parking space for campers quite near in the case you are around the area with camper, it is easy to park there and walk short way to this place. The one thing you might want to know that there was a lot but A LOT of ants so when you leave your towels etc, dont be surprised if they are full of ants later 🫠

Very unique, beautiful place 😍, just because of that, it always overcrowded, easy you can find, bar 🍸, restaurant for snacks 😀, and also good 👍 to have a shower 🚿 €1 /2 min. , toilet 🚻 free off charge. Many places for park your car if you are disabled, right at the main entrance. Main car park 160 meters away, but with barriers 2 meters high restriction. We have a wonderful time, hope U 2.

A visit to the Cascate del Mulino is a beautiful experience. There's a mythological tale that claims the thermal waters were created to make humans more meek and less aggressive. While the water wasn't as warm as I had expected, the stunning scenery makes up for it. The best part is that entry to the pools is free. There's also a cafe right next to the pools where you can use the restroom.

What a great experience in the Cascate del Mulino hot springs. We being there in the middle of September, the water was very pleasant (warm bath temperature), no ants or other insects in the water as I read in other reviews, I guess it is seasonal. The water had a distinct smell, perhaps hydrogen sulfide that commonly found in natural hot springs. The springs located just a 10 minutes walk from a public parking, with hourly pay 3 euros, there was a plenty of space around 1pm. Admission to hot springs is free

Very unique experience; to watch the view of Tuscany valley while resting in hot water as if you are in a open air Spa :) but natural. Also thanks to staff for kind service at the facility. Note: shower, hair dryer, towels and cupboards for your cloths are with fee, rest is free (no entrance fee) Do not forget to bring your slippers, if you do, anyhow you will manage somehow and enjoy like we did 😄

This place was an absolute highligh of our vacation. I love the less traditional activities. What makes this place interesting is that you can find the cascades in the middle of a nature, it's completely free, you only pay for parking and water has according to google 37.5°C. You only pay for parking from 8am to 8pm. The water smells a little bit like sulphur, but nothing horrible. First, I was afraid what is inside of water but there are small round rocks and it's not slippery at all. It's opened nonstop and you get the best experience if you come early at the morning or if you stay after sunset when outside is colder so you can enjoy the warm water (we tried both). There is no place for changing but there is a restaurant nearby with toilettes. We saw many people coming in their bathrobes! That was cool. The best is probably to stay in an accomodation nearby and change at your room.

The Cascate del Mulino are an amazing natural spot and absolutely worth visiting if you’re in the region. The hot springs are quite large, with several pools and small waterfalls to explore, which makes the experience enjoyable even when it gets crowded. The water is naturally warm and very relaxing, perfect for spending time just unwinding. Dogs are welcome too, which adds to the friendly atmosphere. There is a paid parking area about 5–10 minutes’ walk from the springs, so plan accordingly. It’s not a hidden place, so expect some crowds, but the beauty of the site more than makes up for it. A unique experience and definitely a must-do in Tuscany.

May 2025. Interesting pools and rock formations. Water temperature is pleasant. I heard of the worms, but I wouldn't even notice them if I didn't know about them. It was quite busy on a Sunday but we always found somewhere to hang out in the water. There are paid lockers, paid showers and a restaurant. The nearest parking lot (paid) is less than 10 mins walk away.

Historical landmark
Porta Romana is an ancient archway in Saturnia, believed to have Etruscan and Roman origins. Some argue that certain stonework predates these periods. It stands as the only surviving gate from the town's early days, dating back to the 3rd century BC on Via Clodia in the town center. The path beyond the gate may not be well-maintained but is still accessible.
a historical landmark definitely to be visited

Quaint village with nice shops and cafes. Also a very fancy restaurant but that was closed on our visit. Not sure the old wall gate is worth a visit on its own but the town square and village are really nice.
Patrick L — Google review
This doorway is a charming feature of the small town of Saturnia, perfectly framing the view of the arch down the cobbled street. While much of the visible structure is a medieval restoration, its original Roman influence is undeniable. The paved road you walk on faithfully follows the ancient Roman path, with clear remnants of large slabs and sidewalk blocks. The most impressive historical detail is the prominent section of the original polygonal city wall beneath the Ciacci Fortress. These walls, likely dating to the colonial foundation (186 BC), reveal that the city was planned to be much larger than the developed town you see today.

Porta Romana of Saturnia — the ancient city gate, opening toward the Roman road. Saturnia was first an Etruscan settlement (its original name may have been Aurinia). The Romans re-founded it as a colony in 183 BC. The walls you see today combine Etruscan megalithic blocks with Roman and medieval rebuilding. You can still find polygonal stonework (large irregular blocks fitted without mortar), a hallmark of pre-Roman and early Roman fortifications.
D D — Google review
(Translated by Google) Located in Saturnia, it is the only remaining gate of the city walls. The paving, dating back to Roman times, clearly shows the ruts left by the passage of carts. It is the starting point of a twenty-kilometer walking trail that leads to Sovana and part of the Via Clodia, which leads to Rome. (Original) Si trova a Saturnia unica porta rimasta della cinta muraria , la pavimentazione in basolato risalente all' epoca romana ha evidenti i solchi lasciati dal passaggio dei carri. Nestled just within the ancient walls near Porta Romana, the Chiesa di Santa Maria Maddalena is a historical gem that dates back to 1188. Although its original structure has been significantly altered due to a comprehensive restoration in 1933, it still holds artistic treasures worth exploring. Inside, visitors can admire a stunning panel by Benvenuto di Giovanni featuring the Madonna and Child flanked by San Sebastiano and Santa Maria Maddalena from the 15th century.

Located in the small town of Saturnia, this church is quite humble. It doesn't have the grandeur of the major cathedrals in Italy, and you shouldn't expect a big "wow" moment. Nonetheless, it makes for a nice, peaceful experience if you happen to be walking through the town.

Villa Acquaviva Winery, located just a minute's drive from the village, offers a delightful dining experience at their restaurant La Limonaia. The chef, who is part of the winery family, presents elegantly prepared home-cooked meals. For 20 euros per person, visitors can enjoy a tasting experience that includes good wines and local dishes in the beautiful courtyard of the historical buildings.
The wine tasting experience was amazing and memorable. While learning much about the wines of Villa Acquaviva Winery, we learned more about the people behind the wines which only enhanced our experience. We were able to enjoy the very healthy serving samplings in a very relaxing atmosphere without someone from the winery rushing thru the tasting. It is a one of a kind experience you will not want to miss. Ciao

We booked through the website, tge tasting experience at 20 euros per person. We arrived and wete greeted into the historical buildings and beautiful courtyard. The wines were good, local dishes to accompany them and the prices for buying wine quite accessible. The visit part is not so impressive, as you can visit only the historical cellar kept now more as storage space and we couos not learn or see about their production process. The lady was very nice in terms of hospitality.

Positives: Extremely kind and helpful staff, one of the lady at the reception always had a smile on and gave great recommendations. The hotel is very remote in a beautiful setting, massive vineyard from every angle. Free bottle of wine on arrival, is a very nice touch. Great breakfast with lots of options. Few minutes drive away from Saturnia. (beginning of Sept) UPDATE: And we came back! On our way back we decided to stay again in Villa AquaViva! (We are on a road trip through Italy and we travelled almost all the way down to south and now back up) As before, the staff is really the best, Cristiana (I hope spelled right) at the reception and the girl from Romania at breakfast (unfortunately we forgot to ask her name) welcomed us back and really made our stay memorable. She even remembered my coffee/milk preference 😍🥰 This second time we managed to do a wine tasting too, partially the reason we came back. It was such a nice experience and Cristiana did a fantastic job at it. Thank you to the whole team, these stays were really some of the greatest highlights of our trip.

Cons: No internet in the rooms and very weak connection even at the common areas. Yes, it is communicated that there are no internet in the rooms. Unfortunately I had to work during our stay so it was a struggle for me, but I managed, I could also connect to my phone’s hotspot outdoors and could work from the pool. If you can be without internet for a few days you may enjoy to disconnect while there. The rooms look a bit outdated and the beds are not really comfortable. UPDATE: We learned during the wine tasting that the rooms in the Villa - where we stayed both times - were the first ones as hotel rooms, that explains a bit (plugs were also falling out of the wall in the room we stayed the second time) so maybe the beds are older there, the mattresses are spring ones, so maybe in the new rooms they are better, more comfortable. Considering everything we really enjoyed our stay 🍇🌿❤️

Unfortunately we have to write a negative review of this hotel due to their poor customer service. We had a 2 week holiday booked in 2020 consisting of 6 hotels. All of the hotels (apart from Villa Acquaviva!) were able to move our stay to accommodate our families wedding dates as they changed due to covid. We were only meant to stay here for 1 night and they refused to move our date to our families wedding, kept our money and requested we buy wine with it instead. Then had the cheek to charge extra for shipping! Update: Fabrizio is unfortunately missing the fact that we had said that we were happy to pay any additional costs that may have occurred since the original booking in our email (dated 13/06/21). I think the reply says everything about their customer service here.

Great experience!! Unfortunately there were no available spots for the day that we came for a wine tour, however Fabrizzio (one of the owners) was kind enough to let us in and let us walk around. He recommends to try and make a reservation if possible. He also provided some wine tasting and small tour of winery celler (cantina) for absolutely no charge. The wine they produce is definitely worth to try. We could not resist and bought a bottle of smooth white wine. The property also is extremely well maintained (extremely!!!). There are endless wine trees and even some fruits, also a pool that we noticed. The views are gorgeous and personel was so welcoming. We had an awesome time at no cost (aside from purchasing a wine bottle)

(Translated by Google) The foundation of the church is not known but it is thought that it may date back to the 14th or 15th century (the historical archive of Manciano was destroyed in 1902 with the Cassero fire). However, that baroque construction was completely modified in 1932 in neoclassical style with the complete reconstruction of the façade, the internal vault, the altar, etc. The result is a building that is certainly appreciable and elegant but somewhat in tune with the medieval appearance of the village. (Original) La fondazione della chiesa non è nota ma si pensa che possa risalire al XIV o XV secolo (l'archivio storico di Manciano è andato distrutto nel 1902 con l'incendio del Cassero). Guests have praised the wonderful set-up with a fireplace, great service, and amazing food. The black angus steak is highly recommended for meat lovers, along with other menu options.
OH MY GOD! The best, the best, the bestttt! Just loved it. It's Nr. 1 in Italy and 6th in the world for a reason. The meat is so tender and juicy, the pasta is full of flavour. Authentic italian food fully cooked with passion. Real meat lovers will realize the value of this restaurant. Loved it. Will be back!

OH MY GOD! The best! Just loved it. It's Nr. 1 in Italy and 4th in the world for a reason. We tried horse steak for the first time ever. The meat was so tender and juicy, the pasta was full of flavour. Real meat lovers will realize the value of this restaurant. Loved it. Will be back!

One of my favorite meals on our trip to Italy. All around top-notch service with a lot of personable charm and colorful backgrounds on a lot of the dishes. The Irish beef for two is my recommendation!

High class food, THE BEST Restaurant in whole Maremma. Just let Ayub decide what wine you should drink. Ask for chianinna filet if you want an orgasm in your mouth. Forget all other places, you just want to eat there. YES, it's a bit pricy, but worth every Cent.

No.1, if you’re not a meat lover or appreciate a good cut of beef, don’t go to this place. Now for the meat lovers, just awesome, but not just the steaks, but everything. We didn’t have desert as we simply could not take in any extra food. The staff is amazing and really know their staff. Also the place makes you feel welcome, although a bit to warm with the fireplace going. A bit pricey, but worth every euro. Highly recommended.

I had 2 wonderful meals here with my family. The food, service, atmosphere… Well everything really was perfect for us two nights in a row. And my 8 year old daughter was able to choose, eat and enjoy starter, main & dessert 🤩 We all loved everything we ate and I can honestly say the steaks that I had were the most delicious steaks I’ve ever eaten. Watching the Chef cooking over an open fire added an additional visual artistic element to the experience. Thank you so much for 2 amazing dining experiences and some very happy tummies.

I’m writing in English to extend as much as possible the contents’ sharing: Being a “I Due Cippi” feels like being at the theatre, to watch a Lyric Opera: We were seated in a wonderful first raw table right next to the fire and grill; where both cookers were dancing with hypnotic movements while preparing delicious steaks and other meat selection.. During the show we had some starters of the house with a nice Ca’ del Bosco. Followed by two delicious startes: pork belly with shrimp (superb!) and the tartare. Followed by one of the most delicious steak i’ve ever tasted!! Service also was incredible and all waiters were attentive and discreet. Price in line with the place, name, and finest food! Would definitely go again.

Amazing restaurant, in a very small village. It was a very pleasant surprise to find such a nice restaurant close to the Saturnia Terme. Fantastic aged meats, grilled on open fire and excellent wines. Beautiful and cozy atmosphere with friendly waiters. Highly recommended!

Quite possibly the best thing I’ve ever had to eat! Absolutely delicious! Stuffed gnocchi with pecorino and truffle! We also had spinach stuffed ravioli which was amazing! We’re definitely going to visit again!

We were pleasantly surprised to find such a nice spot for lunch. Really good food and friendly staff. We had prosecco, Aperol Spritz, Eggplant Parmesan, Pasta with vension and pasta with red, tomato sauce & bacon...all was great.

What a great dinner we had here at Osteria L’Orologia! We were recommended by the owner of the villa we were staying at in Manciano. This restaurant is in the historic part of the charming hillside town of Manciano. We had a delicious antipasto platter with an assortment of cured meats, cheeses, artichoke fennel and more. The artichoke and fennel were cooked (not sure the method) with olive oil and I could have eaten a whole bowl of them! To die for seriously! We had a great bottle of local red wine and for our main dish I had a perfectly prepared delicious bisteca. Tender and delicious. My partner had a fantastic chicken cacciatore that was melt in your mouth delicious. The tomato sauce with olives was amazing. I’m hungry thinking about it! This was a great recommendation for us. You will not be disappointed. By the way the picture of the cacciatore shows the excellent bottle of wine next to it.

Wonderful restaurant. Best food in Tuscany. The all female crew took care of us - kindness and delicious. If you’re in the area don’t miss it.

Il Melangolo is a restaurant located in Saturnia, offering a nice location and beautiful environment. Despite initial reservations about the welcome, the service turned out to be good and the food delicious. The staff may not have had the best English, but they were friendly and accommodating. The meals are well-presented and reasonably priced, making it great value for money.
My partner and I stayed in Saturnia for one night to visit the hot springs and went into the town for dinner. We found this restaurant was not the most welcoming to begin with but that must have been because they were busy. The found us a table quickly, the food was delicious and service was good. We tried to speak so Italian as the staff didn't have the best English but they tried to understand our Italian attempts and were friendly. We thought it was also great value for what you get!
Hannah S — Google review
Nice location and beautiful environment. Good service and delicious food. The foods are also well decorated and served. Dogs are allowed to enter the restaurant. The price is reasonable. The only problem is that they have several cats running around and triggered our dog barking and chasing:-(
Ruth W — Google review
The service was exceptionally bad, the female waiter seemed pissed off. Male waiter smelled like he just run a marathon. Portions was small. Fish was full of bones, medium seemed to mean raw. Would never come back here again.
Klaus T — Google review
The experience was terrible. From the first moment they said that “no pizza for lunch”, but knowing that they are pizzeria, it sounded stupid. We ordered gnocchi and pasta with mushrooms were terrible. Pasta seemed like taken from the freezer and gnocchi had no taste. All of it costed a lot and it wasn’t worth it. Service price per person was 2€ and it seemed too high. Waitresses were not polite and it ruined the day mood. I won’t ever come back. !!!Look for another place!!!

Really friendly manager but he has too many staff and they don’t seem well trained. There was only six other tables dining when I was there. I had multiple waiters / waitresses and wine didn’t arrive until I asked again. Just felt disorganised and not a calm experience. Might just have been the night I went. Food was ok but again certainly not the best you’ll get. I had tortellini and pasta was too hard. House wine didn’t taste great. It’s not expensive so you get what you pay for. Personally I’d rather go next door and pay double for the finest Italian food (I went there the night before). As after all holidays are special.

Delicious! We had salad and beef with mushrooms.
Monica K — Google review
We love this place and when visiting Saturnia male it a point of call for either a tasty light lunch or a more elaborate evening meal. All the food is locally sourced adding to the authentic taste of the area. The meat and fish dishes are a must. The house wine is excellen, red or white, which is sourced . Great value too! Give it a go you love it.

This was the best restaurant experience during our Italy holiday. Although it's not advertised they serve vegan food too, you just have to ask, especially the mushroom dishes are almost exclusively vegan. We would always come back for sure.

Bar
Bar Ristoro Cascate del Mulino di Saturnia is a hidden gem that offers gourmet food in the guise of a simple snack bar. Despite being located at a tourist spot, this place serves top-notch Italian dishes that rival those found in upscale restaurants. The pappardelle cinghiale (wild boar ragu) is particularly outstanding and the club sandwich and fries are also highly recommended.
Lovely Spot for a quiet bite. Many locals have lunvhbr I had a lovely lunch — service was quick and efficient. It’s a busy place with lots to manage (showers, lockers, food, drinks), but the staff is always helpful. I always stop by for a bite because it’s consistently great!

We are happy to have experienced this beautiful place, but are now experiencing a somewhat sour ending. My daughter lost her shoes (see photo) here on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, between 16h15 and 18h30. I tried to call someone but could not reach anyone. By email, we still did not get a reply. We hope that an honest finder delivered the shoes to the bar, and either way, the bar will contact us.
Sarah V — Google review
The lady that served us (likely in her 50s) was rather unpleasant. She served us like she didn't even want to be there, and as soon as you started getting ready to pay she told the person behind to start ordering, which meant you were pressured to get out of the way as they would start squeezing through. No attempted smile, no politeness, no care, zero. Moreover, we thought it was a bar - meaning drinks, sandwiches and such, as it is usual in locations like this. It was a full on restaurant and they were all out of anything light that a bar would have. Ended up getting some fries even if we were starving because we didn't need mor want an expensive big meal. While the waterfalls are nice, this bar was not.

Anyone complaining about this “snack bar” is wrong. I was here last month with family and friends. The food here rivals the absolute best Italian restaurants in NYC. It’s a snack bar and yet the pappardelle cinghiale (wild boar ragù) was one of the best bowls of pasta I have EVER had! Have I said enough? This is a gourmet restaurant pretending to be just a basic snack bar at a tourist attraction. Dig a little and you will see that it is anything but. Stated otherwise: FANTASTIC FOOD. great service! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Verry nice place, verry simpatico owner who help us (group of 9) with transport to Saturnia. Thank you
Ja P — Google review
The unbelievable madness is that a fee of €10 plus a €10 deposit is charged for a locker, plus an ID card. This is the only rate, daily rate. Even if you are on site for about 2 hours as usual. I was no longer interested in the drinks prices, which were also totally inflated.

Looking at the other reviews perhaps lunch is not great. But great for a pastry and coffee after a morning dip. Get yourself the table under the tree near the water, lovely
